1. Racism In Football Essay
Crafting an essay on the theme of racism in football presents a multifaceted challenge,
intertwining sociocultural complexities with the intricacies of sports dynamics. Addressing this
issue necessitates a delicate balance between shedding light on the historical roots of racism in
the sport and delving into contemporary instances, all while maintaining a critical and nuanced
perspective. The difficulty lies not only in conducting extensive research to grasp the historical
context but also in navigating the sensitive terrain of race relations in the present-day football
landscape.
Additionally, the task requires a comprehensive understanding of the diverse forms racism can
take in football, from overt acts of discrimination to more subtle, systemic issues. Analyzing the
impact of racism on both players and the broader football community demands a keen awareness
of the power dynamics at play. Moreover, constructing an essay on this subject requires the
writer to address potential solutions and initiatives that can contribute to eradicating racism from
the sport.
The complexity intensifies when considering the global nature of football. Different regions may
grapple with distinct manifestations of racism, each requiring unique consideration. Moreover,
the essay must strike a balance between highlighting the progress made in combating racism in
football and acknowledging the persistent challenges that remain.
In conclusion, writing an essay on racism in football is a formidable task that demands a deep
understanding of historical contexts, a sensitive examination of contemporary issues, and a
commitment to proposing meaningful solutions. It is a challenge that goes beyond the boundaries
of sports writing, delving into the realms of social justice and cultural analysis.

3. Traditionalism In The Mayor Of Casterbridge By Thomas
Hardy
In his foremost literary work, The Mayor of Casterbridge, Thomas Hardy uses the
very inspiration of Casterbridge s traditions and setting itself paired with its foremost
characters, Michael Henchard and Donald Fafrae, to opine that traditionalism in any
sense is an outdated and even self destructive culture; for this reason, it is the duty of
the younger generation to resurrect traditionalistic societies from collapsing.
Hardy constructs the fictional town of Casterbridge by drawing inspiration from his
own hometown, Dorchester, order to convey that standard, traditionalistic societies
such as it are lamentable and ever collapsing. Dorchester s many prominent and
unlovable features, as in many of Hardy s novels, in fact, are portrayed through
direct parallels in Casterbridge s key features and traditions. The skimmity ride
organized by Joshua Jopp exposing Lucetta and her shameful history, for example,
is a landmark of the society that Hardy created and had lived in. Skimmity rides
were actually well known traditionalistic English events; they were carried out in
order to express public disdain of sinful marital actions. Seeing that Hardy claims
that he has derived Casterbridge from his memories of Dorchester as a child, it is
likely that Hardy has witnessed something like this before. Such an embarrassment
itself is not something that would ever be considered morally acceptable in an even
remotely modern society, especially considering that, seeing the laughter and
4. Netflix Strategic Plan
Currently, there are only a few stores in existence; it continues to operate in Alaska
and Texas for those last of the hardcore video renters . Blockbuster will soon be
extinct.
Netflix is currently utilized in 190 countries and projecting expansion to over 200
countries within the next two years. CEO Reed Hastings and CFO David Wells wrote
to their investors stating: Progress has been so strong that we now believe we can
complete our global expansion over the next two years, while staying profitable,
which is earlier than we expected . Strategically, Netflix decided that now is time to
expand globally. As a result, Netflix ended the year of 2014 with a total of 57.39
million subscribers increasing from 44.35 million in 2013.
Even though Netflix is successful in revenue and expanded globally, it is vital for
the organization to create a SWOT analysis which stands for a company s strengths,
weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (Abraham, 2012). Netflix does have a
competitive market such as Amazon.com and Hulu that are becoming more popular
with their lower monthly pricing. They also have a more simplified catalogue of
consumer favorite new titled movies and TV shows. In order for Netflix to stay
competitive with a strong strategic plan, let s take a look at the SWOT to identify
what the best course of actions would be to increase and/or sustain the current
procedure for the benefit of the company, its employees and the satisfaction of it
consumers.

5. Balch Creek Case Study
Balch Creek begins in the Forest Park neighborhood in unincorporated Multnomah
County near the intersection of Northwest Skyline Boulevard and Northwest
Thompson Road at the crest of the West Hills. It flows generally east about 3.5
miles (5.6 km) to its confluence with the Willamette River, a major tributary of the
Columbia River.[4] The creek drops from 1,116 feet (340 m) above sea level at its
source to 46 feet (14 m) at its mouth, a total of 1,070 feet (330 m).[1][2] Most of this
occurs in the first 2.5 miles (4.0 km). In the hills, the streamgradient (slope) generally
ranges from 15 to 30 percent interspersed with sections of less than 15 percent along
the middle reaches.[9]
From its source, the creek runs east on private property near
6. Essay On Stimulants In College
Seven out of 10 college students say it is pretty easy to get stimulants without a
prescription, according to a new survey conducted on eight U.S. campuses. A
majority (83 percent) received them from friends and most said they used the drug to
help them study or improve their grades. Overall, one in four undergraduates reported
that they used prescription pain medications, sedatives or stimulants for nonmedical
reasons in their lifetimes, said Anne McDaniel, author of the study and associate
director of research and data management at The Ohio State Universitys Center for
the Study of Student Life. One in four undergraduates reported that they used

After stimulants, pain medications were the most misused prescription
medications, which was used by 10 percent of undergraduates. About a third of
students said it was easy to obtain pain medications too. About 9 percent of
undergrads used sedatives, with 44 percent saying it was easy to find them on
campus. At one time, college students most commonly misused drugs to get high,
Hale said. But today, students also use medications to self medicate, to manage
their lives. They are using drugs to control pain, to go to sleep, to relieve anxiety
and to study. 55 percent of students who misused pain medications said they did it
to relieve pain, while 46 percent said they did it to get high. More than half who
misused sedatives said their aim was to get to sleep, while 85 percent who misused
stimulants wanted to improve grades or studying. Marijuana was the most common
drug replacing prescription medications, used by half of undergrads who misused
controlled drugs, followed by cocaine and hallucinogens at 19 percent. Nearly two
percent had used heroin, which is very concerning, Hale said. There s been a lot of
media attention given to the recent rise in heroin use and for good reason, he

Autism Spectrum Disorder was first discovered in 1943 by psychiatrist Leo Kanner,
who had a study of eleven children who showed a marked lack of interest in other
people, but a highly unusual interest in the inanimate environment . Originally this
study connected Autism Spectrum Disorder with an early form of schizophrenia,
which led to the belief that AutismSpectrum Disorder could be caused from bad
parenting , however, due to various research scientists we now know that this is not
the case ( What is Autism ).
Individuals are still diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and the number of

ingredients to keep the track falling flat with nothing to boast but upbeat rhythm and
not much personality. With danceable rhythm, catchy lyrics, and strong melody, we

9. Sex And The City Of Rome Essay
Sex. It s the taboo. We don t like to talk about it because it makes us uncomfortable,
but when analyzed, it can tell us so much about a society, their core values, and the
ideals that controlled their society. Though the saying is doing it like the Greeks
when talking about something perceived explicit and raunchy, Rome had quiet the
culture of sexual back and forth as the Greeks once had, and that Western culture
experiences today. Sex and the city of Rome had complicated lines of what was
acceptable and what was not. Through research, the concept of purity, of both the
free roman bloodline, and the purity of the roles of males and females, serves as a
guiding concept when analyzing what is acceptable and not in ancient Rome.
Pudicitia is the core value in Roman sex culture, and in all cases it is clear that the
purity of Roman women, men, and free born bloodline is the utmost concern.
Both girls and men, however particularly girls, were imagined to uphold pudicitia,
a fancy virtue that will be translated as restraint or chastity. A girl with a high
degree of pudicitia, that is, a univira or one man lady, would ask for above all to
seem modest and to limit her social interaction with men apart from her husband and
male relatives. At a similar time, a single lady didn t suffer stigma; within the higher
categories, it had been common and even expected for a single or unmarried lady to
espouse. Pudicitia symbolized reason and goodness, whereas impudicitia that is,
10. Example Of Isolation In Frankenstein
Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, illustrates an interesting story focusing in on many
different themes, but what most readers may miss, is the similarities between Victor
Frankenstein and the creature he created. As the story develops, one may pick up on
these similarities more and more. This is portrayed through their feelings of
isolation, thirst for revenge, their bold attempt to play god, and also their hunger to
obtain knowledge. These are all displayed through a series of both the actions and the
words of Frankensteinand his creature. To begin, Frankensteingoes off to college and
immediately isolates himself from society including his family and his minimal
friends. This isolation has a negative effect on him, even though his isolation can be
seen as his own choice. This isolation and focus on his science evolved into a project
to create human life. Through this project, the creature is born and this is when his
isolation gets even worse. This secret consumes so much of him and he has no one to
turn to.
Contrary to Frankenstein, the creature does not choose his isolation, but it was
immediately chosen for him. Society and especially Frankenstein excludes the
creature from being accepted, based on his looks and his little ability to act as a
normal human being. Within the novel he states, What chiefly struck me was the
gentle manners of these people; and I longed to join them, but dared not. I
remembered too well the treatment I had suffered the night before from the
barbarous villagers, and resolved, whatever course of conduct I might hereafter think
it right to pursue, that for the present I would remain quietly in my hovel, watching,
and endeavouring to discover the motives which influenced their actions. (Shelley,
pg. 110) The creature is aware of this exclusion and through those words a reader
can know for sure. The negative effects of the creature s isolation begins to show
within the story through his horrifying acts like murder. Isolation develops to be a
motif in the story, which helps a reader truly see that this is a huge similarity between
both Frankenstein and his creature. In addition to the isolation that Frankenstein and
the creature share, the two main characters also share their
11. Scottish Recruitment
In 1296, Scotland was unprepared for war. Occasionally described as prefeudal in
nature, Scottish recruitment was based on the idea of free service and Scottish
service . Free service referred to the free men of Scotland such as Barons, Knights
and the lesser nobility or free men who were equipped and mounted according to
their rank. Scottish service was used to indicate able bodied men from Earldoms
north of the Forth who did not hold lands or significant resources. England was much
more prepared for war, with their army being recruited under instructions of the Great
Seal. This often left the Scottish forces using guerrilla warfare to combat their
enemies. It is therefore no surprise that Wallace began his militarycareer with
12. How to Improve Airline Safety and Pilot Training Essay
On February 12, 2009, a Colgan Airlines flight operating as Continental Connection
Flight 3407 crashed two miles from the runway in Buffalo, New York, killing all fifty
people aboard.. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigation that
followed stunned the American public and identified the need to closely examine the
regulations governing pilot training and pilot rest requirements, with a strong focus
on regional airlines (Berard, 2010, 2). Currently, the United States government has
passed HR 5900, which was titled the AirlineSafety and Federal Aviation

The reason that this came about was the captain of the Colgan accident flight in
Buffalo, New York had failed five checkrides in his life time. This would not
normally be a big deal, but he failed his checkrides because he was not satisfactory
in icing procedures...one of the major causes of the accident according to the NTSB.
Implementation of NTSB Flight Crewmember Training Recommendations The
National Traffic Safety Board (NTSB) is an independent United States government
investigative agency responsible for civil transportation accident investigation. The
NTSB investigates all aviation accidents and incidents. On an annual basis, this bill
requires that the FAA accepts all NTSB flight crewmember training recommendations
that come up over the past year (Hughes, 2010). For example, the NTSB has
requested that the FAA include flight in icing conditions into all flight training
curriculums.
FAA Rulemaking on Training Programs Prior to this bill, the FAA had no say in
what airlines included in their training programs as long as the program included
certain subjects. No later than fourteen months after the date the bill is signed into
law, the FAA will issue a final rule on all training programs (House Transportation
Subcommittee, 2010). This was brought into effect because Colgan Airlines did not
include flight into icing conditions in their flight
13. Why Do Chlorine Remains In A Pool
Introduction:
I chose this project because I am a competitive swimmer and I have been
swimming for the past ten and a half years. I wanted to find out how much chlorine
remains in a pool each day after chlorination. I am interested to see how much
residual chlorine is left and the range in which there appears skin irritation and red
eyes because I have experienced the red eyes and itchy skin due to over chlorination.
Chlorine is used in pools in either a gaseous or as sodium or calcium hypochlorite.
The chlorine is added to water to help prevent people from getting sick from disease
producing microorganisms. The chlorine that is added and reacts with the organic
material and metals in the water is the chlorine demand for the water as it will not
be available for any disinfection that keeps people from getting sick while in the
pool. The residual test is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The free iodine is than titrated with the sodium thiosulphate solution.
I2 + 2 S2O32 2 I + S4O62
For every two moles of thiosulphate, one mole of iodine is needed so the amount of
iodine mole needed is half the amount of thiosulphate moles that are needed. Starch
is used as the indicator for the end point because the iodine and water is such a faint
yellow color that the starch will combine with any of the iodine that is still present
and turn it a blue color and the end point for the titration is than easier to notice.
I found the amount of amount of residual chlorine using the equation:
Residual chlorine = volume of Na2S2O3 x Concentration of Na2S2O3 x mass of 1
mol Cl x 1000 Volume of sample pool water
Adverse effects can occur if there is too much residual chlorine in water. The use of
chlorine can possibly cause carcinogenic compounds such as chloroform. There is
still an ongoing debate if chlorine is the best way to disinfect a
14. Bullying And Stereotypes
In yesterday s society, bullying was most common in boys, whether it be that the
boy is the bully or the victim. However, the percentage of girls that are victimized
or are bullying others is increasing daily. This is due to social media, behavior
patterns and newly defined gender roles society has taken on to a new level. The
definition of bullyingis changing as well, it is not simply to physically abuse a victim
but to harm them in a way. This includes physically and mentally whether it be
through someone s words or through online interactions. (Include Study) Even though
bullying has been dominated by boys, girls have always been part of the picture.

15. James Ritty History
The name, James Ritty, is not a very well known name to most Americans. But the
mechanical cash register has become an important part of American life at every
store. James Ritty invented the first mechanical type cash register back in 1879. It
is not the cash register of modern times, but it was the first step in making life of a
businessman easier and making their employees less likely to steal. Who was
James Ritty? James Ritty was an American born on October 29th, 1883. He had
started to go to medical school when the Civil War broke out so never got to finish
college. After the war he became a tavern keeper and owner in Dayton, Ohio. The
tavern he owned was called the Pony House. In those times it was not uncommon to
have your workers stealing money from you as many just used plain old cigar type
boxes to put the money in. He came up with the idea after going on a boat trip to
Europe from the United States and seeing a counter on the boat that counted the

the sales made. When a transaction was completed, a bell on the cash register
would ring and the amount of the sale was noted on a large dial that was on the
front of the cash register. Ritty s register did not have a cash drawer in the front
like the modern day versions of cash registers and it did not print receipts. The
mechanical cash register or incorruptible cashier which ever you would like to call it
just recorded the number of sales and the amount of each sale made. James Ritty s

16. Shared Virtual Space Technologies
Introduction
The aim of this paper is focusing on discussion of some relevant topics from
ISYS100 course which enables students to learn more about the impacts of
information technology on our lives and society.
The development and improvement of new technology are continuously to change
and improve our lives and some areas of industries in various ways such as education,
communication and entertainment.
In this paper I explore three types of advanced Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality
and Tele immersion technologies compare some distinguish characteristics between
them as well as some of the ramification of these technologies on current and future

Augmented Reality
According to the University of Southern California (2010), Augmented Reality (AR)
is a type of virtual reality which referred to a computer generated that produces an
additional environment to enhance the real world environment and the real sensory
experienced where the participant can see and interact without distinguishing the
difference between the real and augmented world.
Augmented reality vs. Virtual reality
To compare the sense of reality experienced by augmented reality and virtual reality
participants, Wu (2011) implies that in virtual reality, the participant fully realises the
unrealism that they are experiencing with the brain perceiving as if it is a true
experience in a virtual world whereas augmented reality, delivers a intermingling of
real world and virtual world experiences which the participant can sense more of
reality.
Wu (2011) clearly explains the difference between them that:
Augmented reality is different from virtual reality. Virtual reality: what you see is
virtual. You only see the virtual thing. But augmented reality you re still seeing the
real world. It just augments some virtual information on top of the real world. So, it
gives you actual information but didn t replace the real world you re experiencing.

17. Ancient Egyptian Cultures In The Art Of Egyptian Art
The Egyptians told many stories about their life in the form of artwork and
sculptures. We have learned so much about different kings, traditions and culture
from the artwork from temples, chapels, and tombs. Artwork to the Egyptians was
autobiographical it could tell the story of kings, gods and so much more by stone,
and paint. Many culture have looked to the Egyptians culture and ensued some of
their traditions. The culture of the Egyptians has shaped the modern world as we
view it today.
In comparing the first row of images we can view that there are instantaneous
differences among both royal expressions. The element that is the focal point of the
image is the facial proportions. In the first image. During the sovereignty of pharaoh
Akhenaten iconography and form of the king altered. In one way Akhenaten altered
the way of imagery was by embellishing facial structures. He created more bulging
noses, lips, chin and ears this would give the image appear unrealistic to the
individuals real image. In the image, we can view the both kings have a clear
image of their eyes and both are comparable in the placement on the face. Seti I has
more realistic image it tried to perfect the figures, forms and draws the audience to
view the image. Unlike Akhenaten his image has exaggerations in features this isn t
accurate in what the individual truly looked like in life. In viewing the image of
Akhenaten, I believe this was the beginning of the art named caricature.

18. The Debate Of Assisted Suicide
The topic of assisted suicide is very controversial and is heavily debated upon all
around the world. While physician assisted suicide is only legal in the Netherlands,
Switzerland, and a few states in the U.S., it is illegally practiced widely by physicians
and nurses, such as Dr. Jack Kevorkian. I first heard of physician assisted suicide
when the deathof Dr. Kevorkian, an assisted suicide advocate and a suicide aid, was
on the news in 2011. Kevorkian assisted in the suicide of many patients who could
not find any more reasons to live. Many people oppose of his practice, but I believe
Kevorkian was trying to help these patients find peace. This topic is important
because it can help end the long pain and suffering of patients. Seeing the struggles
of the patients Dr. Kevorkian has worked with makes me believe that the
legalization of physician assisted suicide it necessary, but not everyone agrees. The
main focus of this paper is how the rights and decisions of terminally ill patients may
impact the rest of us. The audience of this research paper is made up of physicians
and nurses practicing physician assisted suicide, patients with terminal illnesses,
families of patients with terminal illness, and judges and jurors dealing with cases in
this field. The purpose of this paper is to help others understand the importance of
this topic and become informed on how the denial of assisted suicide can affect
patients.
My research on these questions lead me to believe that
19. Group Dynamics Within The Group Essay
Group dynamics are defined as interactions among group members that emerge as a
result of properties of the group rather than merely their individual personalities
(Nichols Davis, 2017, p. 300). It is important to understand how groups function to be
able to facilitate discussions, collaborate with members and to operate effectively.
You are able to understand group dynamicsthrough observation. Observations allow
us to critically analyze the effectiveness and function of groups. In observing week 7
of Fill Your Cup I have been able to observe the communication and interactions
between the group leaders and members, cohesion of the group, social integration and
influence, and group culture and productivity. For this paper I will critically analyze
week seven session and identify the topics previously mentioned to better understand
the dynamics within the group.
Stage of group development
After observing the group in week seven and reviewing the Tuckman model it was
evident that the group was in the third stage which is the Norming Stage.
During the third phase, the group develops cohesion. Group members accept each
other s idiosyncrasies and express personal opinions. Roles and norms are
established. Neuman and Wright (1999) described this as a stage of developing
shared mental models and discovering the most effective ways to work with each
other. Tuckman (1965) stated that in this stage, the group becomes an entity as
members develop in group feeling and seek to

Robot was first published commencing a whole new era in the field of fiction.
Asimov first explicitly introduced the Three Laws of Robotics in the short story
Runaround, published in the March 1942 issue of Astounding Science Fiction. In his
1985 novel Robots and Empire, Asimov formulated an additional Zeroth Law, to
stand above the original three: No harm to humanity, or, allowing any harm to
humanity by inaction. Other science fiction writers have explored similar ideas,
sometimes anticipating Asimov s laws and sometimes expanding on them. (Wallach

Indeed, a robot should have some system of self preservation reflexes as long as
they do not interfere with its prime responsibilities. But, as mentioned before,
robots can under certain circumstances interpret the Laws differently and what is
more important can be seen as a better version of a human being. Asimov (3) wrote
through the words of Susan Calvin: Then you don t remember a world without
robots. There was a time when humanity faced the universe alone and without a
friend. Now he has creatures to help him; stronger creatures than himself, more
faithful, more useful, and absolutely devoted to him. Mankind is no longer alone.
Have you ever thought of it that way? ... They re a cleaner, better breed than we
are. In this sense robots deserve to be considered as equals to humans and even
more than that, as superior beings. Robots that serve are just a first step on the way
to developing artificial intelligence opening new possibilities to no end. However,
Asimov`s Three Laws do not go beyond the definition of robots as slaves, which,
considering human history, is immoral and

will elaborate on the profitability and financial position of the business. It will also
compare how the current month compares to the previous month based on data
pertaining to July 2010 and August 2010. In making these determinations, the
context in which the business operates will be clearly depicted taking note of such
things as seasonal influences and prevailing demand. This report will specifically
focus on six key areas of analysis including: * Financial Performance and Liquidity,
* Credit Management, * Increasing Earning Power, * Inventory Management, *
Debt Management, * Maximising Tax Benefits. Whilst discussing these six key
areas, careful consideration as to the type of business Wedding Bells Boutique is,
understanding what it has done well and identifying areas for improvement will be

calculations. Of key concern for the owners is providing a good service and product,
making money and improving market share, paying bills on time to maintain a good
reputation, making sure debtors pay in a timely manner, legally minimising tax
obligations and managing inventory. Suggestion will be made as to how
improvements can be made regarding these owner concerns. Finally, the report will

There is no doubt that the Lotus Sutra is one of the most popular and important
sutras of Buddhism. The Lotus Sutra is considered a sacred scripture of Buddhism.
Within this sacred scripture contains the all the teachings of the Buddha. The
Lotus Sutra contains 28 chapters. The chapter that will be discussed in this paper
is chapter 3. Chapter 3 tells the of the Parable of the Burning House. The Parable
of the Burning house is essentially a story with a hidden meaning. The hidden
meaning within this parable is practice skillful means. This Parable does a good
job of explaining it through the metaphors and references. To summarize The
Parable of the Burning House, the storyline essentially starts with a householder
who was very wealthy. This householder owned a very big mansion that was
hundreds of years old. The mansion being hundreds of years old, it had to began to
rot and fall apart. Despite the house being a mansion, it only had one door. The
owner of the mansion had a lot of children. The children would play inside of the
house. One day, the house caught on fire. The house was being consumed from the
flames of the inferno. The householder managed to escape his house, but his
children did not. The father called for his children to come out of the house. The
children were ignorant and were too distracted with their games and toys. The father
had to devise a quick plan to save his distracted children from the flames. The father
was already aware of what the
23. The Advertising Of Love Teams In The Philippines
The advertising of love teams in the Philippines has slowly been changing the
Filipino s colonial mentality mindset because it allows Filipinos to emulate local
celebrities instead of foreign ones. Local and global companies are capitalizing on
this, making use of the love team s fame in order to advertise their products. For
global companies, they use glocalization in order to make their product seem more
localized to attract Filipinos. This is effective because Filipinos become attracted to
loveteams because they project on to these love teams the traits they find important
in themselves and their surroundings. However, this type of projection can also be
negative because of how celebrities in love teams lose their right to privacy and are
made to live up to extremely high expectations. While it is good that Filipinos are
beginning to emulate local celebrities over foreign ones, love teams are not
necessarily a good thing for the local industry. This is because international and
multinational companies are using them in order to advertise their products in a way
that attracts those with a more local mindset. It has come to the point that people
often can no longer differentiate what is local and what is foreign. It also leads to the
effect of colonial mentality lessening but the effect of this staying the same.

The Market
Introduction. The problems in this chapter examine some variations on the apartment
market described in the text. In most of the problems we work with the true demand
curve constructed from the reservation prices of the consumers rather than the
smoothed demand curve that we used in the text. Remember that the reservation price
of a consumer is that price where he is just indifferent between renting or not
renting the apartment. At any price below the reservation price the consumer will
demand one apartment, at any price above the reservation price the consumer will
demand zero apartments, and exactly at the reservation price the consumer will be
indifferent between having zero or one apartment. You should... Show more

26. Similarities Between Chin Dynasty And Shang Dynasty
In the history of humanity, each society has had a religion. These religions, on the
surface, are different in many ways. They can range from having only one god to
several major and minor gods that rule over their creations. If one looks closer, you
can see that a multitude of the stories from these religions are similar. This pattern
has been noticed by several researchers, causing the creation of the monomyth. To
show how this theory comes into play, the religions from ancient Greece and the
Shang Dynasty of China will be compared.
In China, the Shang Dynasty was around 2000 BC. This era is the earliest known
period of religion in China. The Shang Dynasty had the people praying to several
gods. Many of these gods were associated to one to more aspects of nature. To the
people of the Shang Dynasty their religion was so important that the government
ruled by what they believed was the will of the gods. One of the main gods that they
followed is the Jade emperor; the first and king of the gods.
While the Chinese were worshiping their gods, the people of Greece were ahead of
the game worshiping the gods of Olympus. This worship is thought to have started in
the 5th century BCE. The greeks had many gods, but there were twelve that ruled
over the rest. These god were called the Twelve Olympians. Of these gods, Zeus, the
god of storms and the sky, ruled as king. Each major and minor god had control over
one or more aspect of nature. The people of greece ruled over each city
27. Satire In Gulliver s Travels
Authors write in many different forms and use many different elements in their
works. One of these elements that writers use is called satire. This element is used
to make fun of something that the author disapproves of in a comical but hidden
way. Widely considered as one of the greatest satirists to ever live, Jonathan Swift
used satirein his works to express his disgust in society and the British Monarchy
during the 18th century. One of the greatest satires ever written by Swift was
Gulliver s Travels. In Gulliver s Travels, satire is evident through Gulliver s voyage
to Lilliput, his dialogue with Lilliput s emperor, and his time spent within the
kingdom of Brobdingnag.

Swift expresses these feelings multiple times in the book in many different ways.
In Gulliver s Travels, Swift expresses his fury towards the British Monarchy and
points out the many faults within the royal court. Swift first states in Gulliver s
Travels, when a great office is vacant either by death or disgrace (which often
happens) five or six of those candidates petition the Emperor to entertain his
Majesty and the court with a dance on the rope, and whoever jumps the highest
without falling, succeeds in the office (Swift 44). This statement in the book
shows his anger towards how people get into office. Showing how people will
climb over each other to get an office position and that the monarchy will only let
people with a plentiful amount of money and a good name run for office. Gulliver
also notices within the book that all objects on the island of Lilliput are the same
size as the Lilliputians, noticing this he makes the statement, ...but nature hath
adapted the eyes of the Lilliputians to all objects proper for their view: they see
with great exactness... (Swift 62). Swift is satirizing in these lines that the British
Monarchy is near sighted to problems outside of their kingdom and only care about
Britain. Swift also brings out a major point later in the book when Gulliver ends up
on the island of Brobdingnag. Since Gulliver is so small compared to the rest of the
Brobdingnagians, he is treated kind of insignificant. Swift is comparing
28. Examples Of Dynamic Characters In Fahrenheit 451
What do Guy Montag and Katniss Everdeen have in common? Besides living in
dystopian societies and being dynamic protagonists; nothing. Fahrenheit 451 by Ray
Bradbury is a novel written in the 1950s about the prospect of the world, particularly
the United States and how books are outlawed in their new society. Guy Montag, the
main characterof the novel, becomes a dynamic character by him learning from his
experiences and deciphering the reality of the virulent society he enforces.
As a developing protagonist of a dystopian society Guy starts out as a static character
that loosens up and begins to question the predetermined rules of his society. One
example of this would be, What was it like... before homes were completely fireproof.

An example of this claim would be, You should have seen here, Mille... you weren

by the woman s suicide. Guy has been a fireman for ten years and this is the first
time seeing a person staying in their burning home. It seems unlikely; however,
this could be his first time paid attention. This event stays on his mind briefly and
progressively leads to Guy comprehending the darkness covered by his government
s motives. Another instance of Guy envisioning his experience of emotion would
be, thought of her[Mildred] lying on the bed... not bent with concern, but only
standing straight arms folded. Thus, Guy would not particularly care if Mildred
would succumb. He feels terrible for essentially not caring if Mildred would die
right in front of him. Another example is, remembered thinking then if
she[Mildred]died, he was certain he wouldn t cry, and suddenly he was so strange,
he couldn t believe he knew her at all. Mildred and Guy didn t have the relationship
that a normal couple; their relationship was quite non existent. To Guy, Mildred s
death is comparable to a stranger. Guy almost pities himself for not truly caring and
even possibly dwelling on his wife s

Carnival operates a combined fleet of over 100 ships, and additionally, the company
has 10 ships on order for delivery by 2016.
Carnival Corporation has four operating groups in charge of their own geographical
areas. Carnival Corporation controls all operations in North America, Costa
Crociere is in charge of the operation in Europe, other than U.K. which is operated
by Carnival UK, and Carnival Australia is in charge of Australia and South Pacific.
These individual divisions reported to the executive management of Carnival
Corporation plc, led by Chief Executive Officer Micky Arison. Carnival attributed its
success to its ability to manage brand autonomy, with each major cruise line
maintaining separate sales, marketing, and reservation offices, as well as through the
industry s most aggressive shipbuilding program. (Carnival Mission and History, n.d.)
Based on passenger volume, Carnival was the most popular cruise company, with an
estimated 51.6% of worldwide cruising revenue in 2011. (Market Share Statistics,
2012)
As a chairman and CEO, Micky Arison played an important role in the public profile
of the company in the past. This is a reason why the public expected him to take the
helm of the crisis communication after the sinking of one of his ships.

30. The Effects of Feudalism Essay
In Medieval times during the 10th and 13th centuries, a form of political and
social organization called feudalism was a way of life that had great effect on
people of the time and on the modern world. Feudalism was developed because of
the weakness of Europe and it s kings. The word feudalism comes from the word
fief, which was the land held on condition of feudal service, similar to an estate
(English). The fiefs bound together lords and vassals. Feudalismwas a structure in
which a lord divided his land into smaller parts to give to lesser lords ( Feudalism ).
A noble, or lord, was in control of his manor. The manor was the heart of feudal
economy (Ellis and Esler 222). A manor often consisted of the castle, a church, a

Life as a serf or peasant was not easy. Serfs were bound to their lord s land and
required to do services for him. Although they could not be sold like slaves, they
had no freedom (Ellis and Esler 219 244). Peasants farmed for the goods that the
lord and his manor needed. They went through difficult hardship because of this.
Peasants were heavily taxed and had to provide for themselves the goods that they
needed ( The Middle Ages ). According to the medieval law, the peasants were not
considered to belong to themselves ( The Middle Ages ). Although serfs were
peasants and had relatively the same duties and similar rights, what differentiated
a peasant from a serf was that a peasant was not bound to the land ( The Middle
Ages ). Peasants had no schooling and no knowledge of the outside world (Ellis
and Esler 219 244). They rarely traveled more than a couple miles outside of their
villages. All members of a peasant family, including children, tended crops,
farmed, and did some sort of work to help out (Ellis and Esler 224). Very few
peasants lived past the age of 35 because of hunger in the winter and the easy
development and transmission of disease (Ellis and Esler 224). Women in this time
lived a hard life as well. Regardless of their status in society, they were tied to
household tasks ( The Middle Ages ). This including duties such as cooking, cleaning,
taking care of the children, sewing, and baking. Along with these jobs, women also

34. Memphis s Impact On American Culture
Memphis, Tennessee is a city that I hold dear. Sure, it is riddled with crime, the
roads are terrible, and the cost of living is high. However, the rich history and
vibrant atmosphere is what draws so many to this marvel of the mid south. There
is nothing quite like walking down Beale Street after enjoying some of the best
barbeque available, dipping in and out of bars to feast on the almost constant live
music of all genres. The unique smell of smoked meats mixed with stale beer
brings me home whenever I catch a whiff. Memphis was greatly affected by the
American Civil War, and the outbreak of Yellow Fever shortly thereafter. The 50s
and 60s was a time of radical change for Memphis and all of America. During this
time, African American and white Memphians worked together to create some of the
most influential music in America s history. Sun Studios put Memphis on the musical
map, introducing new artists, and creating new genres of popular music. This

In 1861, Memphians enlisted and formed more than 70 Confederate companies.
One year after the start of the war, the Battle of Memphis took place, an aquatic
skirmish between the Confederate gunboats and the Union Naval forces. After only
90 minutes of fighting the city was claimed by Union forces, and the Confederate
flag flying representing the city was taken down and exchanged with a Union flag.
After the Union victory and succeeding occupation, Memphis was utilized as a
hospital encampment for over 5,000 Union soldiers. The battle was largely
advantageous to the post war city. The short lived river battle meant that the Union
soldiers had no motive to set fire to the city or terrorize its citizens. Memphis
recovered quickly from the war, as most merchants quickly realized that Union money
was worth more to them than the Confederate

alot helps them to start to develop listening and communication skills and develop a
vocabulary older they get. All children learn by copying eachother and others in their
environment. If for example at a nursery, if a childsees another child doing
something, another child may copy this behaviour, this may not always have a
positive affect as they may be doing something they shouldnt and therefore, will
receive a consequence. However, sometimes during ages 4 and above children have
more control of right and wrong and may tell another child to stop doing something
they know if unacceptable. At any age, our behaviour and development is influenced

Color Symbolism in The Great Gatsby
F. Scott Fitzgerald is an author known for his best selling book, The Great Gatsby.
The story is about a man, Jay Gatsby, who was in love with Daisy Buchanan. Daisy
was married to Tom, but Tom was cheating on her with Myrtle Wilson. There were
two islands the story took place in: East Egg and West Egg. East Egg was the old
money, or money passed down from ancestors, while West Egg represented the new
money, or self made money. Fitzgerald used multiple types of symbolism in his
book, and his symbolism helped the reader understand the plot. The novel is read
throughout schools to teach symbolism. The book can be described as [...] satisfying
as entertainment, thought provoking as a study, and increasingly rewarding the more
closely it is examined. (Koster). A frequently used type of symbolism in The Great
Gatsby was color. The colors symbolized in the book were white, green, yellow, blue,
gold, and gray.
The color white normally represents pureness or innocence. In The Great Gatsby,
though, it represented a fake innocence. Daisy was always around white: white
clothes, white curtains, and white rooms. Even her name was symbolized with
white. A daisy flower has white petals and a yellow center. Daisy was not anywhere
close to the picture of innocence; she was all about money and would try her hardest
to get it. She married Tom Buchanan for the money,

37. Nature Versus Nurture Has Been A Big Debate In The Past
Nature versus nurture has been a big debate in the past few years. Debates and
arguments from both sides has its own statements which makes their side stronger.
Some argue that it is in the genetics if a person is intelligent where some state the
opposite, that surroundings make a person intelligent which improves them in a
person mentally and physically. In the 1950s psychologist Harry Harlow studied the
effects of maternal deprivation on the development of baby monkeys. Some
philosophers such as Plato and Descartes suggested that certain things are inborn
(Saul McLeod, 2007), or that they occur naturally regardless of environmental
influences. Other examples of nature debates were Bowlby s 1969 theory of
attachment likewise Chomsky s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The dizygotic twins show a higher correlation than their other siblings even when
reared apart supporting the theory that nature does have a major influence on
human intelligence. Nurture intelligence is another factor which is still unfolded.
Some believe that upbringing a child in a proper environment can effect their
mood, body and their views towards to world. If someone s brought up in an
environment where he or she gets all the facilities and necessities of daily life, it
will help through the entire life, in saying that if the person receives the correct
surroundings, family support, supportive friends circle, it can help them throughout
the journey of life. Family habits, interests and company of good people as
mentioned above will leave a significant effect on the person s development. The
nature theory holds the genetic influence over abstract traits however, the
environmental factors are the real origins of our behaviour. We want to be according
to the environment around us. At the end we are still confused which way is right
nature or nurture since both sides have valid reasons to be right. Some traits come to
us by genes and some we experience through travelling and experiencing different
situations in our lifetime, which is a proven fact. Nurture helps shape our intelligence
in the sense that what surrounds us is what we end up liking and

Dean trailed in the polls miserably, garnering support that was typically less than

The Dean campaign was not getting much media coverage (Trippi called them

traditional means of building a campaign and appeal directly to the American people
(Rampton, 2004).
Joe Trippi brought with him a background of working for dot coms in Silicon

The symbolic meaning and the connotation that is attached to the symbol is used

After Walt confronts the gang members and was shot. We could see him falling

Myth in the Abrahamic Religions
Andrea Scardina The term myth is often associated with stories that are considered
to be false. In the context of religion, however, the term, myth , describes any of the
tales that are accepted by a given religion, and these stories are usually treated as
historical fact by followers. The Abrahamic religions would likely agree that most of
the myths in their sacred texts are indeed historical facts. There are parallels between
the three Abrahamic religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam that should be
recognised. The similarities are greatly apparent in the myths that are described
within their holy books: the Torah, the Bible, and the Quran, respectively. This paper
will compare the myths of creation; the great flood; the prophets: Abraham, Moses,
Jesus and Muhammad; and the afterlife as they are viewed by the three religions to
show that their individual myths have more similarities than differences.
The creation myths of these religions indicates that they are all monotheistic. In the
Judeo Christian account of creation, God created heaven and earth and separated
the light from the darkness, on the first day . On the second day, He separated the

brought back the importance of art and history into the White House. She bloomed
friendships with international affairs. She became a style icon for American
women. Many designers today still use her designs to develop recreations of her
elaborate style. Chanel has even recreated her iconic pink suit and all the proceeds go
to the John F. Kennedy
43. Mindfulness As A Treatment For Depression
Psychology is one of the youngest lines of science and there is still a lot to be
learnt about it. Before the use of anti depressants, one of the first treatments used by
psychologists was psychoanalysis which was founded by Sigmund Freud in 1852.
Then later treatments such as electroconvulsive therapy formally known as electro
shock therapy were used. Currently the most common treatment for depression is
medication such as antidepressants as they are proven to be extremely effective in
treating the symptoms of this mental illness. However even though there are so
many treatments for mental illnesses such as depression the biggest issue we face
with depression is its habit of being a reoccurring problem. The purpose of this essay
is to discuss mindfulness as a treatment for depression. In the essay not only its
effectiveness towards the treatment and prevention of depression but also how it
treats and prevents depression is discussed. This was until psychologists found a more
effective way to not only treat but prevent the symptoms of depression using
mindfulness as a therapy. Although, mindfulness is not a very well known treatment
it has been found to be very effective of turning the lives around of sufferers of
mental illness.
Mindfulness, a seemingly effective and relatively new approach to assist in treatment
or prevention of some mental health disorders; one being depression. Depression
affects 121 million people worldwide and is the cause of over 850,000 deaths each
44. The Cavaliers Argumentative Essay
Overview Going into the season we would not be surprised to see Cleveland
against Boston. However, as the playoffs were set to start we thought that there
was a very small chance that both the Celtics and the Cavaliers would face off in a
rematch of last years Eastern Conference Finals. That thought was strengthened
after the Cavaliers struggled into game 7 against the Pacers. Despite this so called
diversity that these two teams have had to experience, here we are with LeBron
trying to extend his consecutive NBA Finals appearances to 8, and the Celtics to
defy all odds once again and advance to the finals without there star player Irving.
This game is a difficult one to predict because the Cavs looked like they have
regrouped
45. The Truman Administration s Loyalty Order
When a great democracy is destroyed, it will not be because of enemies from without
but rather because of enemies from within said Joseph McCarthy, on February 9,
1950 (Enemies from Within). McCarthy may have missed the mark in claiming that
communist infiltration was the enemy from within, but his statement was accurate:
the rise of demagogues can erode the rights and freedoms upon which democracy is
built and without which they could not gain power. From the 1920 s on, red baiting
had produced anti communist sentiments in the American populace that had largely
eradicated most communist organizations in the United States (Hillstrom 17). The
culmination of over thirty years of hysteria over communist infiltration bred an
atmosphere of suspicion and agitation. Combined with the Alger Hiss conviction
and the Hollywood blacklisting period under the House Un American Affairs
Committee, the 1940 s and early 50s represent a climax of the Red Scare (Hillstrom
36). The Truman administration s Loyalty Order requiring the FBI to investigate
government employees suspected of disloyalty, and actions like it created fear of
being labeled as disloyal and bred a populace that was inclined to accept the word of
authority. The emergence of McCarthyism was the failing of society s core
institutions: the entertainment industry (satisfying the people), the government
(serving the people), and the media (informing the people). It is easy to stand up for
the cause of justice when the
