This document discusses methods for estimating base drag on supersonic cruise missiles. It compares Brazzel's method, a classical model, to a modified model. CFD analysis is conducted using a 2D axisymmetric missile model in GAMBIT and FLUENT to numerically predict base drag. Results from the classical and modified methods are compared, showing good agreement with average 5.3% error. The study concludes that base drag decreases with increasing altitude and Mach number, improving missile performance at higher exit Machs and altitudes where ambient pressure is lower.

Controller design for gantry crane system using modified sine cosine optimiza...TELKOMNIKA JOURNAL
The objective of this research paper is to design a control system to optimize the operating works of the gantry crane system. The dynamic model of the gantry crane system is derived in terms of trolley position and payload oscillation, which is highly nonlinear. The crane system should have the capability to transfer the material to destination end with desired speed along with reducing the load oscillation, obtain expected trolley position and preserving the safety. Proposed controlling method is based on the proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller with a series differential compensator to control the swinging of the payload and the system trolley movement in order to perform the optimum utilization of the gantry crane. Standard sine cosine optimization algorithm is one of the most-recent optimization techniques based on a stochastic algorithm was presented to tune the PID controller with a series differential compensator. Furthermore, the considered optimization algorithm is modified in order to overcome the inherent drawbacks and solve complex benchmark test functions and to find the optimal design's parameters of the proposed controller. The simulation results show that the modified sine cosine optimization algorithm has better global search performance and exhibits good computational robustness based on test functions. Moreover, the results of testing the gantry crane model reveal that the proposed controller with standard and modified algorithms is effective, feasible and robust in achieving the desired requirements.

Abstract In this paper, effects of various parameters such as geometric properties of deck and pylon and number of cables on the behaviour of cable stayed bridge were observed. For this purpose, analysis of 240 m long fan type cable stayed bridge having single plane of cables is carried out with the help of software facilities. To save time in modelling of bridges manually, a programming tool has been developed in excel software with the help of visual basic macro for the purpose of parametric study of Cable stayed bridge. With the help of this tool, number of models of cable-stayed bridge can be automatically generated in software SAP-2000. From the analysis of number of models, comparison of bending moments in pylon and deck is done. Keywords: VB program, Form control, Class 70R, Class A, Cable stayed bridge, parametric study, SAP2000, Interactive Database.
Improving the Hydraulic Efficiency of Centrifugal Pumps through Computational...IJERA Editor
The design and optimization of turbo machine impellers such as those in pumps and turbines is a highly complicated task due to the complex three-dimensional shape of the impeller blades and surrounding devices. Small differences in geometry can lead to significant changes in the performance of these machines. We report here an efficient numerical technique that automatically optimizes the geometry of these blades for maximum performance. The technique combines, mathematical modeling of the impeller blades using non-uniform rational B-spline (NURBS), Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) with Geometry Parameterizations in turbulent flow simulation and the Globalized and bounded Nelder-Mead (GBNM) algorithm in geometry optimization.

Hierarchical Digital Twin of a Naval Power SystemKerry Sado
A hierarchical digital twin of a Naval DC power system has been developed and experimentally verified. Similar to other state-of-the-art digital twins, this technology creates a digital replica of the physical system executed in real-time or faster, which can modify hardware controls. However, its advantage stems from distributing computational efforts by utilizing a hierarchical structure composed of lower-level digital twin blocks and a higher-level system digital twin. Each digital twin block is associated with a physical subsystem of the hardware and communicates with a singular system digital twin, which creates a system-level response. By extracting information from each level of the hierarchy, power system controls of the hardware were reconfigured autonomously. This hierarchical digital twin development offers several advantages over other digital twins, particularly in the field of naval power systems. The hierarchical structure allows for greater computational efficiency and scalability while the ability to autonomously reconfigure hardware controls offers increased flexibility and responsiveness. The hierarchical decomposition and models utilized were well aligned with the physical twin, as indicated by the maximum deviations between the developed digital twin hierarchy and the hardware.
