On December 26th, 2004, one of the largest megathrust earthquakes ever recorded
struck the coast of Indonesia. The energy released was equivalent to the eruption of
23,000 Hiroshima sized atomic bombs (Pickrell, 2005). Dangerous waves, known as
tsunamis, began radiating from the epicenter crashing into the shores of 11 Indian
Ocean countries. Destruction occurred reaching countries in Africa to Thailand (Risk
Management Solutions, 2006). Thailand was hit by the tsunamiapproximately 90
minutes after the initial earthquake, killing hundreds of thousands of people (Lusted,
2008). The waves of the tsunami reached heights of four to 39 meters, travelling up
to five kilometers inland. Due to the flat topography of the Banda Aceh region, wave
height was approximately four to eight meters, whereas height in the hilly areas was
larger (Cluff, 2008).

Tsunamis
A tsunami is a series of waves that are produced by large oceanic earthquakes or
volcanic eruptions at tectonic plate boundaries. These waves may reach 100 feet
and cause extensive damage in areas that are densely populated, especially if
proper warning systems are lacking. Reaching speeds of up to 500 miles/hour, the
waves can travel across the Pacific Ocean in less than 24 hours (Ramalanjaona,
2011). Tsunamis that are caused by a magnitude 7.5 7.8 earthquake are relatively
local in nature and will not damage regions that are distant. However, secondary

plastic playing in the daily lives of people is interminable. The main problem with
plastic is that it is tossed into the ocean and that it can travel long distances with the
currents and winds. Marine animals and other animals that depend on the ocean for
sustenance wind up eating the trash thinking that it s food. This is especially true
for plastic trash (Parker, 2015). For those of us who live on the coast, a mere walk
on the beach gives us insight to how much our misuse of plastic has become. The

dioxide in the air in the presence of light . This basically means photosynthesis is the
process that all green plants undertake to receive their needed food and energy using
sunlight, water (H2O), and carbon dioxide (CO2). So water and sunlight affects plant

energy and food.

My Reflection On Womens And Gender Studies
Before taking this class, I did not know a lot about women s and gender studies.
Reading the different books and looking at the different pieces of art helped me
the most in this class. There were many pieces in this class that influenced me to
learn more about these women s and gender issues and reflect on my learning. I
spent a lot of time taking notes while reading the stories and relating them to what I
have experienced in my life. For example, the graphic memoir we did as a project
showed how I related to women s and genderissues. It showed my struggle as I
played T ball as the only girl on the team. This experience allowed me to compare it
to the stories we read as part of the class. One of my favorite books we read in class
was Fun Home written by Alison Bechdel. This was one of my favorites because
of her writing style and the way she showed her women s and gender issues. She
uses a lot of detail as she writes which is one thing I like about her writing style.
Another thing I like about her writing style is the way she describes the issues that
she has encountered. For example, she uses the pictures to help the reader better
understand how she has struggled. I find that this helps me better understand the

215,477. Jewish Historian William O. McCagg Jr. asserts that in 1785, Jews made
up nearly nine percent of the Galician population, and nearly seven teen percent of
the Capitol region of LwГіw. Galicia s Jewish population surged after years of Jewish
expulsion across the Empire. Many exiled Jews migrated to Galicia from Germany

Analysis Of The Film Dead Man Walking
Introduction The theoretical perspective I found most convincing when analyzing
the behavior of the main character, Mathew Poncelot, in the film, Dead Man
Walking, are the ideologies of sociologist Max Weber. He believed that rather than
only focusing on one s social actions, it is instead important to understand why
people do the things that they do (Long Crowell). Empathizing with individuals
and identifying their perspectives explains one s rationales behind each choice
and behavior (Long Crowell). By gaining an understanding of an individual s point
of view, we can make sense of their reality and how their perceptions affect their
role in our world (DuBose, 2015). Weber s theory supports that Poncelot s behaviors
can be explained by evaluating the rationale behind the factors that influenced and
affected the choices he made. His childhood experiences, family values, education
level, social class, and economic status were crucial factors when explaining why he
became the person he was. Furthermore, the combination of Poncelot s thoughts and
actions were based on the experiences and social interactions he encountered.
Throughout this analysis, I will reflect on the various theoretical perspectives
discussed this semester and what I have learned from each of these concepts. I will
address why I found Weber s theory most convincing and apply connections between
theories as they relate to understanding social problems and the values of daily social
work practices.

HIV Treatment Plan
Diseases, infections, and viruses effect the population around the world each and
every day. One of those viruses is the Human Immunodeficiency Virus, or better
known as HIV. HIV is a virus that attacks the immune system, causing it to become
weak and vulnerable. HIV can later on turn into AIDS, or Acquired Immune
Deficiency Syndrome. There is currently no known cure for HIVor AIDS, but there
are treatment plans available to help prolong HIV from turning into AIDS.
