Social Work For The Medical Field
For many years I have developed an interest in the medical field, in helping people
who are at very crucial times in their lives. I have known that I do not want to
pursue to be a doctor or a nurse, but rather a professional with in that field who can
aid others and follow up on the responsibilities and make them priorities, just as
much as doctors make the patients health their point of focus. I have also expressed
interest in Child Welfare, which aligns very well with my personal experiences. It is
however for that reason that I chose to write this paper on a field of service that
otherwise I may have not chosen but that I still envision myself pursuing.
What fascinates me about a social work career in a Health care setting are the
possibilities that it presents. It allows you to interact with all sorts of patients and
assist them in many ways. Just as a social worker is specified to do, they connect
others with services. As I have learned social workers in a health care setting,
function based off an interdisciplinary team, where they work hand in hand with other
health care professionals such as doctors and nurses to provide the patient with the
upmost efficient services provided by such institution. Working on such a team where
the care for the patient is looked out for on multiple spectrums, is the kind of work
environment that I would like to work in someday in the future.
In accordance with information provided by the NASW 38 percent of social workers
are within the
Concept Of Well Being As Defined By The Center For
Disease...
CONCEPT OF WELL BEING
The concept of well being as defined by the Center for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) is the judgment of life in a positive manner as well as
satisfaction with life, fulfillment and positive functioning. (Well Being Concepts,
2016) The perfect approach to the issue of quantifying well being is the use of self
assessment scales. One such scale developed is the Psychological Well Being Scale
by Carroll Ryff . (Ryff, 1995) Concepts such as Well Being attempt to explore the
non economic side of development. It is of supreme importance to understand
whether individuals are content with the life, which they are living over and above
the laws and rights, which already exist in society. Scales such as this provide an
accurate picture of reality as it gives a first hand account. This accuracy can help in
better implementation of Human Rights and in turn effective development in the
future. In order to confirm and prove its applicability, the scale can act as a
blueprint for the future. In the sense that if the scale works at an individual level, it
can be developed and modified to apply to a larger population.
RYFF S PSYCHOLOGICAL WELL BEING SCALE
Ryff proposed that well being can be measured on six dimensions or scales. These
are Autonomy, Environmental Mastery, Personal Growth, Positive Relations with
Others, Purpose in Life and Self Acceptance. The six dimensions cover the various
aspects of the lives of individuals, which comprise well being.
Case Study Of Pneumonia And Chronic Pulmonary Disease
Case Study for Pneumonia Our nose and airway filters germs out of the air that we
breathe in order to prevent our lungs from becoming infected. However, when
germs does enters our lungs, it may cause infections such as Pneumonia which
inflames the air sacs of the lungs, which can range from mild case to severe cases.
The air sac may be filled with fluid or pus causing cough that associates with phlegm,
fever, chills and difficulty breathing. The causes of pneumonia are extrinsic and
intrinsic. The extrinsic factors include exposure to pulmonary irritants or pulmonary
injury such as those who works in construction or agriculture. Inhaling dusk,
chemicals and air pollution or toxic fumes can damage your lungs and make them
more vulnerable for infection. Intrinsic factors are related to the host such as stroke,
endotracheal intubation, diabetes, chronic pulmonary disease, human
immunodeficiency or emphysema. Smoking and alcohol abuse could also be a
factor because it damages the cilia in the lungs that help remove bacteria and germs.
Alcohol abuse can put you at risk of aspiration pneumonia especially when you
vomit and the small particles enter your lungs. In addition, alcohol interferes with
the white blood cell production which us responsible in fighting infection in our
body. Types of Pneumonia and Risk Factors There are several types pneumonia and
each are named on how an individual is infected or for the germs that causes it.
However, in this case study, the focus
The Triple Alliance And Three Alliances And Causes Of...
World War 1 started on the 25th of April 1915 and concluded on the 11th
November 1918. It began after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand.
Countries allied together against rivals, forming 2 sides, the Triple Alliance
(consisting of Germany, Austria Hungary and Italy) and the Triple Entente
(consisting of Britain, France and Russia). The war erupted after Archduke Franz
Ferdinand s murder, who was the heir to the Austrian throne. This caused Germany
and other members of the Triple Alliance to declare war on Serbia and its allies.
All British colonies were automatically a part of the Triple Entente. Australia
enlisted 416,809 men. Of those 60,000 died, 156,000 were wounded, gassed or
taken prisoner. The war wouldn t have been as strong as it was without the help of
their military, alliances, imperialism and nationalist s. Both the Triple Alliance and
the Triple Entente have a strong militarism front. Militarism is a government of
political orientation of people to help maintain a strong military force. The military
fronts are Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and Navy. Both sides of the
alliances had strong military forces, because without them, the war would never had
succeeded. The Triple Alliance and the Triple Entente had such a strong belief in their
armed military forces, that they would inflict terror upon their rivals to help with the
expansion of their territory. As the name states, every country in the world was
somewhat involved in the war due
Gender Bias In Televised Sports
Justification
For my assignment I chose the topic of Gender Bias in televised sports, I chose this
topic because I m interested in sport and I believe that many people aren t aware of
how gender biased sport is. The target audience of this topic is people both girls
and boys who are teenagers. These ages were my choice because they would be the
most likely ones to be reading Magazine Articles online. This topic would most
likely be in a sport magazine or in a women of men s Mixed topic magazine to get
more attention.
The most effective devices used in my Informative article would be the use of colours
and images. These devices help capture the audiences attention and will attract them
to read more into Gender bias. In my Persuasive I used
Understanding Life-Span Development
When I hear the term life span development, particularly when utilized in a
psychological context, the first thing that comes to mind is that it has to be the
investigation of change that occurs throughout the lifespan. This change that is
being observed can be in the form of behavior or personality. This field of study is
very interesting as it looks at the ways humans develop over the course of their life
span. The purpose of this paper is to explain why I believe an understanding of life
span development is important and why I believe an understanding of human
development will be beneficial in my prospective career path. Its one thing to
recognize what the term lifespan development implies, yet its another to have a
comprehension of the
The Purpose Of Heroism
A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is brave five minutes longer Ralph
Waldo Emerson. Heroes are the people who don t give up. They walk into the
unknown out of love or compassion. Heroes are humble and kind. Heroism is a
sacrifice, not giving up, it is not arrogance.
First, the function of heroism is sacrificing for others. Heroes are everyday people
making good decisions, The kid who stands alone instead of joining a gang (Stone
5). This kid is sacrificing for his family and society. His family probably needs
more income and being in a gang won t help them with that because he will be
either in jail, dead, or causing trouble. Society and his community do not need these
gangs to cause trouble. Robert Downey Jr. made a good point by saying I think that
we all do heroic things, but hero is not a noun, it is a verb. Actions speak louder than
words in the eyes of heroism, and what RDJ is saying here is that one has to do
heroic actions in order to get the title of hero. Hero as a noun is just someone that
people feel has sacrificed something, but the verb hero means that the person is
currently out doing actions that everyone would consider heroic. Heroes also need
to function with a love for mankind as stated by Doris Lessing, What is a hero
without love for mankind. Without a love for mankind, there would be no such thing
as heroes. Mankind will always need saving and with no love, there would be no
heroes, heroic actions will come when
Argumentative Essay On The 13th Amendment
By the time the sun barely peeks over the horizon, several others and I have been
working the fields for hours. We pick cotton until our fingers bleed. If my first strip
isn t done before noon, the whip will come slashing. If I complete my strip and take
a break before moving on to the next section, the whip will come slashing. If my legs
give out and can no longer support my weight, the whip will come slashing. When I
was informed about the new amendment to the constitution tears welled up in my
eyes as I took a step towards freedom, or what I thought was freedom. The thirteenth
amendment brought forth the idea that slaverywould be abolished. However, the
congressmen left a loophole in the amendment, allowing slavery to continue, but
under another name. The thirteenth amendment was the first to abolish slavery, or so
people say. The thirteenth amendment reads, Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude
except as punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted
shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction, the
constitution. This amendment could easily fool people into believing that all was
right within the world. However, soon after this amendment was added to the
constitution unjust laws started to pop up within the states, When slavery was
legally abolished. A new set of laws called Black Codes emerged to criminalize legal
activity for African Americans. Through the enforcement of these laws, acts such as
Christine Arnie Sacrifice
In Stephen King s Christine, Arnie s obsessive love to Christine sets up a classical
rivalry love triangle between Christine, Arnie Cunningham and Leigh Cabot. While
the theme of love triangles are a relatively common and well understood among
literature, plays, and movies, King s version of a lovetriangle in the novelis somewhat
unconventional. The protagonist of the novel, Christine, is not a human character but
a 1958 Plymouth Fury possessed by vengeful spirits of the LeBay family. King
characterized Christine as a female that Arnie loves very dearly. Nonetheless, the
female personification of Christine makes the story intriguing because the love
triangle incorporates elements of powerful human emotions such as obsession and
jealousy,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
King introduces the theme of love and love triangle before introducing Christine,
effectively avoiding confusion to the readers. The first sentence in the prologue
states that the novel is ...a story about a love triangle (King 1), clearly stating to the
readers that this is one of the main themes of the novel. Dennis, who is the narrator
of the quote, also describes Christine as Arnie s first and only true love (King 1).
Further solidifying the importance of the theme love triangles within the novel.
This makes it easier for the reader to accept the fact that Christine is part of the
love triangle as a person rather than a car. To prove a love triangle existed since the
beginning of the novel, King begins with Arnie and Dennis s first encounter of
Christine. With the prologue s setting of the theme in the minds of the readers,
King then introduces a female character to the story. While Dennis was driving,
Arnie said, go back, I want to look at her again (King 7). By addressing the car as a
female, Arnie acknowledges that the car is not seen as a car but rather an actual
person. His view of Christine as a woman instead of an inanimate object adds to the
love triangle because one character see s the car as a person, who can be added into
the love triangle. Within the prologue, love is shown between Arnie and Christine
the car. King writes, Arnie had fallen in love with a 1958 Plymouth Fury... (King 7).
This quote shows Arnie has fallen for Christine head over heels. This is yet another
sign of an existing love triangle within the book. These elements in the introduction
that personify Christine are what make the love triangle so effective for the reader.
Circle of Friends by Maeve Binchy also employs this tactic of introducing themes
early within the novel through character introductions. The theme of friendship is
introduced when Benny Hogan and Eve Malone

Rheumatoid Arthritis is an inflammatory disease affecting joints casuing swelling,
stiffness, pain and loss of function. This autoimmune disease causes the immune
system to attack the Hyaline Cartilage around the joints. This tough, elastic tissue is
surrounded by synovial fluid for lubrication and nutrient transfer as the cartlidge is
avascular. The synovium tissue encloses the fluid and is normally 1 3 cells thick
composed by firbroblasts and macrophages. In RA, the white blood cells navigate to
the synovium causing synovitis and the syovium thickens to 8 to 10 cells. As the
disease progresses the inflammation destroys the Hyaline cartlidge and the joint
begins to narrow. In the more severe stages,
April Behind You Character Analysis
April from Don t Look Behind You and Rachel from Summer of Fear are both
considered kind, however they differ because Rachel is responsible and April is
selfish. In both stories, the readers can see Rachels and April s kindness show
throughout both of their stories when interacting with their family and friends.
Rachel is different from April, because she is a responsible individual.
Characterization plays an important role in the reader s understanding of character
development. Readers of both Don t Look Behind You and Summer of Fear find
Rachel and April kind. First, April says, Call me Rae, I said awkwardly. That s what
my friends call me. I m so sorry about your family It s so awful. We re all so sorry. I
know, Julia said. Thank you Rachel is being kind to Julia by making her feel more
comfortable. Rachel does this by saying for Julia to call her by the name her
friends call her. I was going to get it straightened. I said/ hurriedly. I didn t know
that you were coming home so soon. I ll go up now and clear out some drawers in
the bureau. The text shows Rachel being kind and letting Julia share her room
without hesitation. This shows that Rachel wants Julia to feel welcome, which is the
kind way to be. April from Don t Look behind You is also kind, for example on page

Store 24

Introduction
Most of the executives of Store24, a New England based convenience store, were
gathered for an important meeting to discuss a way to increase store level employees
retention. Some of the suggestions were to increase wages and bonuses, training
enhancements or career development programs. However, top management lacked
sufficient information available that would explained the relationship between
manager and crew tenure on store level financial performance. Hence, the purpose of
this paper is to shed light on the employee tenure store level performance
relationship as well as to discover how managerial skill, ... Show more content on

Based on the scatterplots on CTenure, Comp and Res, convenience stores 5, 8, 40,
42, 44 and 75 are dropped from the model as these stores seemed to be too much of
an outlier. Moreover, Res is not used further as it is now constant for all other
stores (i.e. Res = 1). As already mentioned in the case, it appears that after checking
for the three regression assumptions (i.e. the zero mean, constant variance and
normality assumption; independence is not an issue here as it is not time series
data), the relationship between employee tenure and store level performance is not
linear. From Appendix B, the residual plots on MTenure as well as CTenure show a
more parabolic than a linear relationship. Hence, as is suggested by Bowerman, O
Connell and Murphree (2009, p. 635) a quadratic regression model is used to solve
for this non linearity, by adding the two variables MTenure_Squared and
CTenure_Squared. From the summary output in Appendix C it can be seen that
CTenure and CTenure_Squared turn out to be insignificant, whereas Visibility is
only marginally significant at the 10% level. Therefore, it can be concluded that only
manager tenure has a significant positive influence on store level performance. More
specifically, the final model looks as follows:

Darwin s Theory On Evolution
Darwin s theory on Evolution Evolution is the belief that all living forms including
humans came from ancient ancestors. Evolution is what makes life possible. It
allows organisms to adapt to the environment as it changes. In Biology, theory of
evolution does not tell us how life began on earth, but it helps us understand how life
came into existence, diversified in many forms on earth, and fossil records. Scientists
have many theories on evolution. One of the theories suggests all the healthy species
can reproduce but they do so imperfectly. Small variations can build up over
generations to create dramatic differences in the body form and function of living
creature, called biological evolution. Evidence overwhelmingly suggests that all life
on earth is related. Charles Robert Darwin, an English naturalist and geologist,
established that all species of life on earth have descended over time from common
ancestors. In 1859, Darwin released his theory of evolution in The Origin of Species.
Darwin presents his idea that species evolved through process called Nature
Selection. Charles Darwinsays:
Thus, from the war of nature, from famine and death, the most exalted object which
we are capable of conceiving, namely, the production of the higher animals, directly
follows. There is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been
originally breathed into a few forms or into one; and that, whilst this planet has gone

In 1969, the Supreme Court of the United States (U.S. Supreme Court) put forth
rules allowing the burning of the flag to be protected under the First Amendment.
The U. S. Supreme Court first ruled on flag discretion in 1907 in the Halter v.
Nebraska case. Prior to this ruling flag discretion statues strictly prohibited the
burning of the American flag , as well as, disrespecting the flag in any way shape
or form. In 1968, Congress reacted to the burning of the American flag in New
York during a protest against the Vietnam War by passing the Federal Flag
Desecration Law. In a few court cases it has been declared that burning the
American flag is only illegal if the flag has been stolen. When a flag is worn/torn
the proper way of disposing of the flag is to burn it; however, when disposing of a
flag by burning it there are steps that should be followed in order to do so honorably.
The flag should be folded in its customary manner and then placed on a fire that is
fairly large with sufficient intensity to ensure complete burning of the flag. After
placing the flag on the fire all individuals should come to attention, salute the flag
while reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and observing a brief moment of silence.
Once the flag has been completely consumed the fire should be safely extinguished
and the ashes should be buried. Congress has made seven attempts to overrule the
Supreme Court decision regarding the burning of the American flag by passing a
constitutional amendment that had an exception to the First Amendment and
allowed the government to ban flag desecration. (Thelawdictionary.org,

The Legacy Of The Kennedy
The Kennedy family name is synonymous with fame and fortune and perfection .
But things have never been perfect behind the scenes of one of the most powerful
families in American history. The first well known Kennedy was Joseph Kennedy.
He went to school at Harvard, but he was not very liked due to his religious
practices. He did get married two years after his graduation to Rose Fitzgerald
daughter of the Boston Mayor.( Joseph Kennedy 2). They had a total of nine
children; Joseph Jr., John (Jack), Rosemary, Kathleen, Eunice, Patricia, Robert
(Bobby), Jean, and Edward (Ted).( Joseph Kennedy 2). This was a very large family
and he was able to support them with his work. The Kennedys were one of the most

A search party was set out to find the three and within the next day the bodies were
found at the bottom of the ocean. The apparent reasoning was not found out until
weeks or months later according to Wilson. Potential reasons the accident could have
happened include mechanical failure, and whether Kennedy s flying was impeded by
an injury to his right foot he recently sustained while paraВgliding.(Wilson 2)
The most depressing Kennedy story is of Rosemary Kennedy. As I was reading the
article I was saddened by what had happened to Rosemary. She was 23 when she
disappeared from the public eye. What happened to her is the worst case in the
Kennedy family. Both parents believed that Rosemary could be cured through a
combination of holding her to the same standard as her siblings, specialized
education and experimental injections(Hapsis 3) The reason no one ever heard
what happened is because Joe Kennedy wanted no one to know the evil he had
done. Joe had chosen a surgical procedure, without talking to his wife, where a
lobotomy was performed on her to try and make Rosemary normal . The lobotomy
did not do this, it caused Rosemary to regress to the mental age of a two year old
and because of this she could not walk or talk( Hapsis 6). According to Hapsis,
Rosemary was no longer mentioned in family letters after 1944, and no one visited
her until 1958 when John secretly went to see her. Rosemary s death was one of the
only natural deaths, she died from old age.

Differences Between Flora and Mother Essay example
There is an infinite number of personalities and the best art works portray them
vividly and truthfully. Some people are practical, while others are more abstract. In
the comedic novels about family life, Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons (1932)
and Chicken Every Sunday: My Life with Mother s Boarders by Rosemary Taylor
(1943), the practical characters are in the forefront. While representing different life
phases due to their age difference, Gibbons s main characterFlora Poste is quite
similar in her life views and actions to Taylor s Mother. The central theme is the
conflict between notions of practicality and romance, reflected by the actions of the
heroines, which happen to be heavily affected by their unconventional upbringings....

Both heroines personalities are heavily affected by their rather unconventional
childhoods. Since Mother was born right after the Civil War and had gone through
the hard and poverty stricken times in the South, [t]here was something Spartan in
her nature and her seizing any possibility for making money (57). Flora s childhood
was marked by her hardly knowing her parents and attending various schools, where
she could hardly fit in. Overall, the theme of unconventional childhoods is one of the
major themes of both novels. Most of the characters of Cold Comfort Farm seem to

Bruno Mars, both a singer and a songwriter has made himself quite popular in the
21st century. Mars was born as Pete Gene Hernandez in Honolulu, Hawaii on
October 8, 1985. While he was still a child, he attained Bruno as a nickname. He
grew up in a family that was very melodious, his dad Pete was a Latin percussionist
and his mom on the other hand was a singer. Mars had the opportunity to be in
performances with his family such as a Las Vegas style Revue that they performed
with Motown hits and celebrity impersonations. When he was four years old he
decided to join the family musical act and became an Elvis impersonator, and as he
got older he started to impersonate Michael Jackson. Since Mars was always around

Action affecting Bees = Due to several human factors, bees are being threatened and
destruction of their habitat is the number one reason. For a habitat to remain
successful and sustain populations it must provide nesting sites and a seasonal
succession of forage, and humans are depleting these areas through population
growth and industrialization (Corbet, Williams, Osborne, 1991).
3. Provide three specific actions that humans can take to minimize our impact on the
ecosystem and ensure the survival of lichens, trees, flowers, and bees.
Action 1 = Bees are a critical part of the ecosystem. Humans need to ensure habitat
sustainment to sustain bee populations do not deteriorate to levels that cannot be
corrected.
Bees need food (nectar, pollen) provided by insect pollinated plants in order to
reproduce and produce more bees (Corbet, Williams, Osborne, 1991, p 2). By
creating hives and environments that are conducive to bee sustainment, it is possible
that strides can be to reverse the downward trend in populations. This is critical as
one study showed. It stated that the loss of bees was a domino effect to other
species. It stated, If bee pollinated flowers

Cloud asked, bringing Squall in close to him. I am now, he whispered back, laying
a kiss on Cloud s chest. What will we do? I can t go back, and when they get up

Symbols In The Godfather
Symbolism is a literary device that poets have been using for centuries to convey
meaning in their works. Symbolism in a poem represents a theme that the poet is
trying to project. Symbols should evoke meaning in the readers mind and give the
reader a clear image. A very great example of symbolism in art is in the film The
Godfather directed by Francis Ford Coppola. In the film, whenever a character is
near oranges it means they are about to die. For instance, there is a scene when Don
Corleone is in the street buying a couple of oranges from a big cart full of them, just
moments later there is an assassination attempt on the patriarch s life. So in the film,
the appearances of oranges are meant to symbolize death. To illustrate a better

was founded in 1997 in Silicon Valley California by Marc Randolph and Reed

charged with a late fee when rentinga movie and he questioned why he should have a
time restriction on how long he is able to rent the movie. In April of 1998, the Netflix
website was launched and they developed the concept of unlimited rentals with no

Character Analysis Of Good Will Hunting
The movie Good Will Hunting an American Drama Film was directed by Gus Van
Sant, and starring Robin Williams, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Minnie Driver and
Stellan Skarsgard in 1997. This movie is about a man named Good Will Hunting
who was a genius but chose not to live as a genius because of fear of past
experiences and the ill treatment he received when he was in foster home. Some of
the other characters in the movie were supportive and some were not supportive of
him. This essay discusses Good Will s personality traits and his interaction with the
other characters in the movie. Good Will Huntingpossessed the following personality
traits, namely: independence, intense interest in a problem, and the need for
stimulation. Good Will Hunting was independent because he chose to live his
own way and not conforming himself to society s pressure. Good Will Hunting
proved his independence by self imposed limitation, meaning limiting his ability to
enjoy complete freedom. Throughout the movie, he rejected his natural talents or
gifts and initially chose to stay in South Boston with his friends. Like in the case
with his girlfriend, Good Will Hunting refused to get close to people with the fear
of being rejected at the end. Moreover, he refused to get higher paying jobs as was
in the case of Sean Maguire, the psychology professor, who later became his
counselor. It was during these counselling sessions with Good Will Hunting that we
learned, Sean Maguire, was also talented in advanced mathematics, but rejected the
opportunity to teach at Harvard and chose to teach at a local community college
instead. Similarly, Good Will Hunting chose to remain a janitor or a construction
worker where he was more comfortable. Not just did he poses the trait of
independency, he also had the character of intensity of interest in a problem. As per
his intensity of interest in a problem, Good Will Hunting would obsess about a
problem that was presented to him until he had discovered a solution. Some
examples of this in the movie were the initial math problems on the chalkboard where
he could not stop working on them until he had a solution. Another is when he
completed the complex homework problem for his girlfriend Skylar

Essay about Global Health and Diabetes
Global health is defined as health problems, issues, or concerns that transcend
national borders (Institute of Medicine, 1997, p. 2). Koplan (2009) proposed a new
definition for global health which he described as an area for study, research and
practice that places a priority on improving health and achieving equity in healthfor
all people worldwide (para, 7). Global health emphasizes transnational health issues,
determinants, and solutions from an interdisciplinary perspective and blends
population health and clinical care.

Only pleasure has worth or value and only pain or displeasure has disvalue.
Nature has placed mankind under the governance of two sovereign masters, pain and
pleasure.
It is for them alone to point out what we ought to do, as well as to determine what
we shall do.
History
Hedonism is derived from the Greek hedone meaning simply pleasure . In common
language, Hedonism has come to mean devotion to pleasure as a way of life,
especially to the pleasures of the senses.(Moore)
The earliest example of Hedonism was the philosophy of the Cyrenaics, an early
Socratic school founded by Aristippus of Cyrene, in the 4th Century B.C. (although,
Democritus had an extremely similar philosophy even earlier). ( The Birth ).
During the Middle Ages, Christian philosophers largely discredited Hedonism,
because they didn t believe that it was consistent with the Christian emphasis on
avoiding sin. However, Renaissance philosophers such as Erasmus and Sir Thomas
revived Hedonism to some extent, defending it on the religious grounds that pleasure

William Shakespeare s Macbeth

Macbeth
William Shakespeare is known to be one of the greatest playwrights of all time due
to his complex writing abilities and advanced storytelling. Shakespeare was known
to be born on April 23rd 1564 in Stratford upon Avon in the United Kingdom.
Shakespeare was a member of Lord Chamberlain s men and over the course of
approximately 20 years, wrote about 37 plays.
During the early stages of William s life, there are almost no records of his
education and family life. We do know that by 1592, Shakespeare began his life in
the theatre as an actor and playwright. As time progressed, his plays became more
and more popular and were held at a high caliber in terms of his writing style.
Historians have had doubts that William Shakespeare was never just one person, but
just a pen name for a group of actors who wrote the plays. But in an article named
Anonymous Shakespeare? The author states that Shakespeare often collaborated with
other playwrights such as Fletcher and Middleton.
Shakespeare started his writing career by writing historical plays such as Henry V
and Richard II. After this, he moved onto romantic plays such as Romeo and Juliet
and comedies like A Midsummer Nights Dream and Much Ado About Nothing. His
later works that concluded his career included tragedies such as Hamlet, Macbeth, and
The Tempest.
He is said to have died on his birth date in 1616 but scholars have believed this to be

have grown up around sports my entire life and have always stayed active in
following it. Over the past few years, there has been a question that has lingered over
the sports world and caused a significant amount of controversy. The question would
be whether or not collegeathletes should get paid to play. I have always had an
opinion on this very large topic, but as time goes on, new variables keep arising and
changing the factors within this skeptical topic. As I began to actually research the
topic, many new aspects were brought up. Things such as universityfunds, businesses,

These contracts would include broadcasting and team apparel. For example, the
University of Michigan appears to have the most lucrative deal with its eight year
long Adidas sponsorship, totaling $66.5 million. However, the University of
Michigan isn t the only school with a high paying deal, the University of North
Carolina has a high end deal of $33.7 million dollars over a ten year contract with
Nike. If it seems as if money within college sports is a popularity contest, it s
because it is. The more a university is able to put its name and its student athletes
names out on the market, the more money that college is able to make. The only
way these colleges can get popular is by having athletes be successful on the field.
The more the team wins, the more deals they are able to make, which equals more
money for the university. The way that colleges try and win each year is by recruiting
the best athletes that will help their team win. Though with these star athletes playing,
they are not seeing a dime of the money earned through these deals.
I then needed to look up the other side of the profit which, would be deals with
broadcasting companies and the media. As our society today grows more reliant on
the media through television, internet, and radio, more money is invested in these
forms of broadcast. Many of the top college football teams are able to get airtime
through the media, and this makes the colleges able to make money off their team

Abstract
Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine disorder
diagnosed in women of reproductive age. The disease manifests itself with varying
symptoms and has long term consequences of heart disease, diabetes, and infertility.
PCOS has no clear etiology or pathophysiology, and as new information is being
contributed, the mechanism and components of the disease is being updated.
Presented here are the most understood and accepted components of PCOS, and its
pathology as a reproductive disorder along with its endocrine and metabolic
relationships. PCOS pathophysiology exhibits itself mainly through increased
androgen synthesis through ovaries and adrenal glands causing follicle growth to halt
in the antral stage. Its etiology has been determined to be multifactorial with both
genetic and environmental factors causing or increasing effects. Genetics of PCOS
have shown its transmission to be in autosomal dominant fashion while
environmental factors such as obesity, insulin resistance, and intrauterine
environment contributes to its phenotype. Relationships between the factors are
discussed and how they contribute to the overall phenotype.
Introduction
Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal endocrine disorder that causes
an increase in androgen production primarily from the ovaries. Affecting 10% of
women between the ages of eighteen through forty four, it is one of the leading
causes of infertility in women and one of the most

taught me many life skills that I am now able to apply in every area of my life. As
a correctional officer, you are taught the importance of punctuality and proper time
management. Also, having a high level of moral standards is equally significant.
Possessing these life skills will definitely help me on my road to becoming a
successful collegestudent.

In corrections, it is pivotal to possess the honesty and integrity traits. Correctional
officers must be sensitive to the ethical issues that we may encounter each day. Every
day correctional officers are faced with many situations in which we must make quick
crucial decisions that can affect a multitude of people. The decisions we make will
affect ourselves, our families, our co workers, inmates, the public, and the
department. That is why it s important to be as truthful as possible at all times and to
operate with the highest level of integrity. Making the wrong decision in corrections
and in college can be life changing. High moral standards such as honesty and
integrity are important traits to have in your academic life as well. Displaying honest
and integrity help builds a healthy relationship between students, student peers, and
professors. Also, possessing these traits will keep students from cheating, plagiarism,
deception, or committing any other unethical academic act. In both the professional
and academic environment, it is very important that I continue to implement honesty
and integrity, in order to be the best student and over all person I can

Starch or amylum is a carbohydrate consisting of a large number of glucose units
joined by glycosidic bonds. This polysaccharide is produced by all green plants as
an energy store. It is the most common carbohydrate in the human diet and is
contained in large amounts in such staple foods as potatoes, wheat, maize (corn),
rice, and cassava. Starch is made of two basic components: amylose and
amylopectin. Amylose is a very long and straight polymer like we want to have in
our study. Amylopectin on the other hand is a branched and short polymer
meaning it will yield brittle and weak plastic which is not good. Vinegar a liquid
substance consisting mainly of acetic acid (CH3CO2H) and water, the acetic acid
being produced through the fermentation of ethanol by acetic acid bacteria. By
adding a small amount of vinegar to the plastic, we can break up some of the
branches of the amylopectin which otherwise would make it brittle. Water hyacinth
is a free floating perennial aquatic plant native to tropical and sub tropical South
America. It degrades water quality by blocking photosynthesis, which greatly
reduces oxygen levels in the water. This creates a cascading effect by reducing other
underwater life such as fish and other plants. Mesocarp The middle layer of the
pericarp of a fruit, between the endocarp and the exocarp.
Plato s Allegory of the Cave in Pleasantville Essay
Writer and director Gary Ross captured the essence of Plato s philosophical views
in his movie, Pleasantville. The movie is about two siblings, David and Jennifer,
who live in completely different high school social scenes. Jennifer is the wild,
extroverted teen who is obsessed with partying and boy drama. David, on the other
hand, is a social outcast and spends most of his time watching TV, specifically, his
favorite show, Pleasantville. David idolizes the show because of the perfect town in
which everyone is accepted and there is never anything that goes wrong. When the
siblings mother goes away, the two are left arguing over what TV channel to watch.
As their fighting develops, they eventually break the remote, which leads to the...

Because the people of Pleasantville and David and Jen learn new things about
themselves, they all escaped the cave and gathered knowledge. The road to
enlightenment was not an easy road, however. David and Jennifer had a difficult
time maturing and leaving behind their old masks; the town of Pleasantville had a
very difficult time gaining a new perspective the town leaders tried everything they
could to forbid people from leaving their perfect little world. This parallel of the cave
explains Plato s first conclusion of how education can often be difficult because it
means turning your back on everything familiar. The movie also very clearly
identifies with Plato s second conclusion that explains why philosophers are often
ridiculed. When Jennifer and David were transported to Pleasantville, they were
immediately hated for disrupting the order in the town. They had to learn how to
cope with a completely different world, while also instilling in others their new
perspective and experience. While Pleasantville is black and white, the town
represents the ignorance that people in the cave feel. However, when the town
begins to turn to color, the people are finally seeing the light and escaping from the
cave. This I somewhat ironic because, for both the people of Pleasantville and David
and Jen, they all begin their journey in black and white. This is interesting because,
from Jen and David s
The Internet Of Information Technology
Part A:
Big data is a term to explain large complex data set, and big data is challenging the
traditional data handling method. The big data itself is useless, but after processed
and analyzed the big data would generate valuable information. This article would
discuss relevant technologies and areas in the big data age.
1. IoT:
1.1. Introduction to IoT Figure 1. In IoT things are able to connect with each other
through internet.
The internet of Things (IOT) is an important part of new generation of information
technology and known as an important stage of development information age.

1.2. RFID and RFID system Figure 2 RFID tag is widely used in manufacturing and
logistic industry
RFID is a type of automate identification and data capture technology (AIDC),
which use wireless frequency to get the related data from object, and recognize it.
(Ashton, 2009). It is not necessary to make a physical contact between objects in
IoT to load data (it allows hundreds of meter to load data), and the data can be
transferred correctly and fast. (Gershenfeld, Raffi, Danny, 2004). RFID tag can be
used at many fields, such as logistic and manufacturing industry to locate and monitor
the materials or product.
In IoT, the RFID system composed of electric tag, reader, and internet, and the RFID
system use electronic tag to identify specific object, and RFID tag would exchange
data through wireless frequency. (Bonsor Wesley, 2014). The reader transmit the host
computer command to RFID tag, and convey the RFID tag s information back to the
host computer. (Bonsor Wesley, 2014).
The RFID system can be divided in to three types based on its frequency, which are
low frequency system (30KHz 300KHz), high frequency RFID system (3MHz
30MHz), and microwave system. (Rouse, 2014). The microwave system is the
majorly used in the IoT, which has a frequency greater than 300MHz and can be used
to operate multiple RFID
John Brown Failures
John Brown had an ordinary life before he became embroiled in the antislavery
movement. Brown was born in 1800 and he grew up in Ohio. Due to him working
with his father in a tannery, he later wanted to start one of his own when he was
seventeen. The young man soon master the rural arts of farming, tanning, surveying,
home building, and animal husbandry, but his most conspicuous talent seemed to be
one for profuse and painful failure. (Chowder, 333) When he was twenty, he got
married, but later became a widower due to his wife passing away eleven years after
their marriage. However, he got married again and became the father of twenty
children, in which only eleven were able to make it to adulthood. Brown invested

proslavery people for the sacking of Lawrence. During their mission, Brown got a
hold of James Doyle and other men of the family. Brown watched as his followers
were attacking them by slicing their heads and arms. Doyle was then shot in the head
by Brown. Brown and the other abolitionists went to other homes and killed more
men before they were finished with their mission. This event came to be known as

Analysis Of Guiding Mirrors In Jane Eyre
Guiding Mirrors In the novel Jane Eyre by Charlotte BrontГ«, Bertha serves as a
primary obstacle in the novel, as her marriage to Rochester is a hindrance to Jane s
emotional fulfillment and happiness. Bertha is depicted as a violent and insane
woman who is kept hidden in an attic throughout the novel. Bertha s rage
eventually leads her to burn Thornfield, in which Rochester loses an eye and
severely injures himself. Despite the portrayal of Bertha as an inherently monstrous
figure, it almost seems as though oppression by a male dominated society has
fueled the destructive rage she comes to embody in the novel. This rage in Bertha
is a manifestation of Jane s passion and independent nature, which seems to serve as
a guiding force for Jane on her journey towards autonomy. Through the ominous
characterization of Bertha coupled with the positive impact her actions have on
Jane, BrontГ« explores gender inequality in an Victorian era and seems to suggest
that passionate and independent women in male dominated environments are
deprived of their femininity and may even be dehumanized. Bertha s presence acts
as an obstacle for Rochester and Jane s marriage, and therefore a hindrance to Jane
s quest for emotional fulfillment. BrontГ« achieves an obstructive characterization
of Bertha by using animal imagery to describe her throughout the novel. In fact, one
of the very first descriptions of Bertha reveals she has a savage face with lips swelled
and dark and bloodshot eyes who
Differences Of Poverty In Richard Rodriguez s Hunger Of...
Poverty is the undeniable reality of what our society displays that needs to be
stopped, so that future generations are not forced to live the terrible life it manifests.
Poverty is an international problem that has the potential to end if individuals work
together to care enough. In Hunger of Memory, Richard Rodriguez explains the
struggles of a Mexican American student in poverty that expresses his hunger to
become a writer and a teacher one day. In contrast, in Nora Ephrons The Boston
Photographs the families that appear in the photographs display what appears to
be tiredness of how they have the ability to live. While a long time period separates
these two pieces of work, both tell about families that appear to struggle due to the
effects of poverty in their everyday lives. However, whereas Rodriquez illustrates the
willpower and hunger to want to move on from his lifestyle that he is living and
overcome his impoverish state, Ephron demonstrates how families in The Boston
Photographs want to end their lives since they will have nothing else due to their
state of poverty. The first differencebetween the two pieces of works is that the hope
that is expressed throughout the essays. In Hunger of Memory, Richard Rodriguez
stresses his love of language and his development of a writer and a teacher.
Rodriguez strives to better his educationso that he can go further in life. It is thought
that one can go extremely far with an education. Rodriguez argues against bilingual

followers during the late 1880 s the first anti Semite was elected for the parliament.
The 1890 s was a time of social and economic problems in Germany; the most
affected was the lower middle class. Many people used the nationalism and anti

Authors/Saviors (with a diagnosis plan)
Among the authors with a diagnosis plan we can mention:
1.Adolf Hitler; he gained support by promoting, anti Semitism and anti communism
with charismatic oratory and propaganda. He transformed the Weimar Republic into
the Third Reich, a single party dictatorship based on the totalitarian and autocratic
ideology of Nazism. He was Chancellor of Germany from 1933 to 1945, and served
as head of state as FГјhrer und Reichskanzler from 1934 to 1945. Hitler promised to
defy the treaty of Versailles and he also intended to rebuild the military. His intentions
were to unite all Germans into a greater Germany, including the ethnic Germans who

FAFSA Application Essay
To the Office of UCONN Financial Aid,
First off I would like to personally thank you for my financial aid award that I
received last year. Both my parents emigrated from Kosovo with no education so I
am to pay for college myself; the aid not only gave me peace of mind but paired with
scholarships allowed me to go to UCONN for an extremely affordable price. So for
that, I thank you. If it wasn t for the generous financial help of the school I wouldn t
be able to attend UCONN.
Now for my appeal. There were a couple of factors that contributed to my late FAFSA
application. I entrusted my father to help me through the process of completing
FAFSA but due to complications with my mental health and household problems, I

With all this going on, completing my financial aid became something that was set
to the side. I was crippled and was only focused on getting better and not getting
kicked out of UCONN.
Not only was this depression hindering me from doing anything, but also my father
who I entrusted to help me complete my financial aid process was not in my
household for the majority of the time I went back home. My family was going
through a lot at the time, and it was an ongoing struggle to keep my parents together.
Because my father was not available for most of the year, it was almost impossible
to complete my financial aid. My mom cannot speak English so that was not an
option either. I was ultimately stuck.
With this letter to you, I urge you to please hear me out and help me. I do not have
the money to attend UCONN because of my family s financial situation. The aid I
received was a blessing and gave me the opportunity to follow my dreams and
make my parents proud. It was the main driving factor for me going to UCONN as
I pay for school myself. I had worked all summer and had planned to take whatever
the difference was once financial aid was factored in and pay for it with my hard
earned money, but now I will not be able to do that because of a miscommunication
with my father and my mental illness. If I am granted financial aid, I will do
whatever it takes to overcome
Writing Center Research Paper
The Writing Center Writing is often a difficult task for students, especially when
having to transition from five paragraph essays in high school, to twelve page
college essays. We often struggle with conveying our message, but have no fear, the
Writing Center is here! The MSU Writing Center is a great resource for
brainstorming, editing, and obviously, WRITING. A similar resource looked at in
this review is the Math Learning Center, because it also helps students with all
varieties of the main subject at hand.
Located in Bessey Hall in room 300, the Bessey Writing Center is the busiest and
largest of the centers. Anyone can make an appointment on Monday to Thursday
from 9:00AM to 5:00PM, and on Friday from 9:00AM to 2:00PM. In order to get a
help session, one must first sign up for an appointment. Bessey is known for being
the only Writing Center on campus that takes two hour appointments for those
projects (you probably procrastinated on) with higher needs (Writing Center).

Butts explained to me that when students come in they begin doing solo work. While
doing this, if they have any questions they just raise their hand and someone will
come over and help them work through the problem. This is very different from the
process of the Writing Center, where you get one on one assistance the entire
appointment. Before leaving I asked Butts the same question I gave Kleinfeldt, What
is the main goal of the Math Learning Center ? Butts said that his main goal as a tutor
for the center was that when the student leaves they have a better understanding of
how to do the math, so that they can take the knowledge with them and be able to do
things on their own.
How Did Augustus Caesar Build The Roman Empire
Augustus Caesar is most commonly known for his role in building the Roman
Empire. The civilization thrived under his rule for over 40 years and continued to use
his methods for hundreds of years to come. His unique status in the government
allowed for him to develop his authority among the Roman citizens as the most
qualified person to rule the people. AugustusCaesar is most admired for expanding
Romewith a loyal army, advancing the societal structure, and using his cleverness to
run a successful empire.
Augustus Caesar expanded the Roman Empire by building and shaping a loyal army.

Augustus soon wondered how he could evade the destiny of assassination, which
took his uncle s life. The answer he formulated was to express his position in
Roman culture in very republican sounding terms . He needed to present his
position in the political sense as traditional, albeit unprecedented Augustus one of
a kind position was shown as a mix of the power held by different Roman
authorities in past periods. The difference at this time was that they were joined by
an exceptional Roman authority, the princeps senatus or first man of the Senate.
Augustus was not a ruler, he proposed, but rather one of many other highly
regarded and effective nobles. Regardless, the limitless forces he now wielded
were held solely for the benefit of Rome, not for his own advantage. The
ramifications of that claim is that Augustus ruled Rome not through power or
intimidation but rather in light of the fact that he was perceived as the Roman most
able to maintain the public order that had been so frequently and disastrously
shattered before his advent . Under Augustus rule, the Romans grew strong and
amazingly rich . Its citizens were grateful in the advantages of a long period of
peace made available by the presence of a solid Roman ruler such as Augustus
Essay on Theme of Heroes in Rebecca by Daphne
DuMaurier
In a world of manifest superheroes, Mrs. de Winter, in Daphne du Maurier s novel,
Rebecca, though quite an unanticipated heroine, proves to be selfless and
courageous, the very definition of a hero. Her name never being mentioned, Mrs. de
Winter, also the story s narrator, stands in direct contrast to the story s vilest
character, Rebecca, and her sinister housekeeper, Mrs. Danvers. By observing the
characters and setting of Rebecca, we manage to catch a glimpse of the author s
personal life and how it may have influenced the writing of her novel.
The daughter of two actors, Sir Gerald du Maurier and Muriel Beaumont, Daphne du
Maurier grew up in the Menabilly mansion in Cornwall, England. Her childhood
home is thought to be represented ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rebecca was just that with its vivid poetry and scheming plot, Rebecca was able to
transport its readers to another world.
Though having been published at such a strenuous time when society more easily
focused on the negative aspects of life, by writing a novel like Rebecca, du
Maurier proved that even though it wasn t apparent, if you looked hard enough
you could find some good amidst the evil, there was a hero among the monsters.
By never mentioning Mrs. de Winter s first name, du Maurier gives her heroine a
certain amount of anonymity and makes her a type of backdoor heroine .
Throughout the novel, the reader s attention is immersed in the mystery that is
Rebecca. Although the story is narrated by Mrs. de Winter and every event is
wrapped around its effect on her character, even so, one manages to focus more
readily on Rebecca. However, if one analyses the novel then it becomes evident
that du Maurier s purpose was for the reader to identify Mrs. de Winter as the
heroine and she does this by intentionally leaving out her name as an effective way
of making the character appear to be a lesser person than Rebecca, so that she is
less confidant, less capable, less attractive to Maxim, not even a significant enough
person to be named (Willmore). All this, to place an even greater emphasis on Mrs.
de Winter s selflessness.
In contrast to Mrs. de Winter s selfless qualities, Mrs.
Whitman s Influence On Society And The Lives Of
Authors...
After studying American author, Walt Whitman, it is clear that he has had a long
lasting impact on society and the lives of authors and artists who came after him.
Through works like Democratic Vistas and Song of Myself, Whitman gave American
society tools to promote creative expression and the essence of democracy. However,
Whitman s methods had to be adopted over time to touch/bring attention to different
social issues. Two authors who were able to branch off of Whitman s works and
ideas were Isadora Duncan and James Baldwin. By analyzing these two important
characters of history, we will be able explore two different social issues in two
different eras and how Duncan and Baldwin refined Whitman s approach in order
to make a statement in society. It s significant to identify the importance of these
artists because this process is still relevant in today s society, adapting from
Whitman in order to get points across and make a difference. It is imperative to go
through each authors works and understand why they did what they did and how it
affected the people around them. First, I will discuss Duncan and the early 1900 s
(creative expression and suffrage). I ll talk about how Duncan used nude dancing
as a form of art to express freedom and democracy for women. To analyze Duncan
and her approach, I will use My Life, Duncan s autobiography, My Idea of Dancing
and The Freedom of Woman . Next, I will ll move into Baldwin and the Civil Right
s Movement in the 1960 s. I ll
Kurt Vonnegut s Epicac
EPICAC Kurt Vonnegut s EPICAC demonstrates a tragic irony on how a machine s
obtained humanity causes his own self destruction, and become so human to the
point of inhumanity. From the point the narrator discovers a communication
method with EPICAC , he is found to possess the traits one would find in the
perfect human. From the narrator s words, he wasn t noble and great and brilliant.
He was all of those things, and prays, God rest his souls. The narrator s accurate
perception of EPICAC is quite different from the start of the story compared to the
end of the story. This change esteemed from EPICAC s aid to the narrator in the
form of magnificent, and emotional poems. Which, in the end, allows him to reach
his goal of marrying Pat.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the narrator says, a super computing machine that (who) could plot
the course of a rocket from anywhere on earth to the second button from the bottom
of Joe Stalin s overcoat. From this, the reader can infer that the narrator might have
a lot of confidence and faith in EPICAC, and considers him as a living thing
instead of the a machine through his usage of the word who. This might also
change the way the reader see EPICAC because is described maybe on the
borderline of impossible, but EPICAC is fully capable of doing the deed
impossible for a human. Another example of clever language usage is when it
says, Before he departed this vale of tears.... Machine like EPICAC cannot produce
literal tears, but EPICAC is able to produce something that brings about the same
feelings that tears do. His vale of tears in the form of those beautiful poems, make
us go through a lot of emotional turmoil for EPICAC. The readers are unable to see
EPICAC as just another machine, but someone who is equal to a human being. The
third example of the author manipulating our emotions for the character is when he
made the narrator say, That s fate....meaning predetermined and inevitable destiny.
His blunt manner of speaking does not spare EPICAC s feelings, and the readers
could feel anger towards the narrator for saying that. The author is making reader
see the narrator is a villain, while EPICAC is a victim as the story progresses. These
manipulations make the ending have a more powerful effect when the readers learn
of the shocking plot twist the author has in store at the

  • 3. Social Work For The Medical Field For many years I have developed an interest in the medical field, in helping people who are at very crucial times in their lives. I have known that I do not want to pursue to be a doctor or a nurse, but rather a professional with in that field who can aid others and follow up on the responsibilities and make them priorities, just as much as doctors make the patients health their point of focus. I have also expressed interest in Child Welfare, which aligns very well with my personal experiences. It is however for that reason that I chose to write this paper on a field of service that otherwise I may have not chosen but that I still envision myself pursuing. What fascinates me about a social work career in a Health care setting are the possibilities that it presents. It allows you to interact with all sorts of patients and assist them in many ways. Just as a social worker is specified to do, they connect others with services. As I have learned social workers in a health care setting, function based off an interdisciplinary team, where they work hand in hand with other health care professionals such as doctors and nurses to provide the patient with the upmost efficient services provided by such institution. Working on such a team where the care for the patient is looked out for on multiple spectrums, is the kind of work environment that I would like to work in someday in the future. In accordance with information provided by the NASW 38 percent of social workers are within the
  • 4. Concept Of Well Being As Defined By The Center For Disease... CONCEPT OF WELL BEING The concept of well being as defined by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is the judgment of life in a positive manner as well as satisfaction with life, fulfillment and positive functioning. (Well Being Concepts, 2016) The perfect approach to the issue of quantifying well being is the use of self assessment scales. One such scale developed is the Psychological Well Being Scale by Carroll Ryff . (Ryff, 1995) Concepts such as Well Being attempt to explore the non economic side of development. It is of supreme importance to understand whether individuals are content with the life, which they are living over and above the laws and rights, which already exist in society. Scales such as this provide an accurate picture of reality as it gives a first hand account. This accuracy can help in better implementation of Human Rights and in turn effective development in the future. In order to confirm and prove its applicability, the scale can act as a blueprint for the future. In the sense that if the scale works at an individual level, it can be developed and modified to apply to a larger population. RYFF S PSYCHOLOGICAL WELL BEING SCALE Ryff proposed that well being can be measured on six dimensions or scales. These are Autonomy, Environmental Mastery, Personal Growth, Positive Relations with Others, Purpose in Life and Self Acceptance. The six dimensions cover the various aspects of the lives of individuals, which comprise well being.

  • 6. The Triple Alliance And Three Alliances And Causes Of... World War 1 started on the 25th of April 1915 and concluded on the 11th November 1918. It began after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Countries allied together against rivals, forming 2 sides, the Triple Alliance (consisting of Germany, Austria Hungary and Italy) and the Triple Entente (consisting of Britain, France and Russia). The war erupted after Archduke Franz Ferdinand s murder, who was the heir to the Austrian throne. This caused Germany and other members of the Triple Alliance to declare war on Serbia and its allies. Its one thing to recognize what the term lifespan development implies, yet its another to have a comprehension of the
  • 9. The Purpose Of Heroism A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is brave five minutes longer Ralph Waldo Emerson. Heroes are the people who don t give up. They walk into the unknown out of love or compassion. Heroes are humble and kind. Heroism is a sacrifice, not giving up, it is not arrogance. First, the function of heroism is sacrificing for others. Heroes are everyday people making good decisions, The kid who stands alone instead of joining a gang (Stone 5). This kid is sacrificing for his family and society. His family probably needs more income and being in a gang won t help them with that because he will be either in jail, dead, or causing trouble. Society and his community do not need these gangs to cause trouble. Robert Downey Jr. made a good point by saying I think that we all do heroic things, but hero is not a noun, it is a verb. Actions speak louder than words in the eyes of heroism, and what RDJ is saying here is that one has to do heroic actions in order to get the title of hero. Hero as a noun is just someone that people feel has sacrificed something, but the verb hero means that the person is currently out doing actions that everyone would consider heroic. Heroes also need to function with a love for mankind as stated by Doris Lessing, What is a hero without love for mankind. Without a love for mankind, there would be no such thing as heroes. Mankind will always need saving and with no love, there would be no heroes, heroic actions will come when

The thirteenth amendment was the first to abolish slavery, or so people say. The thirteenth amendment reads, Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude except as punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction, the constitution. This amendment could easily fool people into believing that all was right within the world. • 11. Christine Arnie Sacrifice In Stephen King s Christine, Arnie s obsessive love to Christine sets up a classical rivalry love triangle between Christine, Arnie Cunningham and Leigh Cabot. While the theme of love triangles are a relatively common and well understood among literature, plays, and movies, King s version of a lovetriangle in the novelis somewhat unconventional. The protagonist of the novel, Christine, is not a human character but a 1958 Plymouth Fury possessed by vengeful spirits of the LeBay family. King characterized Christine as a female that Arnie loves very dearly. Nonetheless, the female personification of Christine makes the story intriguing because the love triangle incorporates elements of powerful human emotions such as obsession and jealousy,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... King introduces the theme of love and love triangle before introducing Christine, effectively avoiding confusion to the readers. The first sentence in the prologue states that the novel is ...a story about a love triangle (King 1), clearly stating to the readers that this is one of the main themes of the novel. Dennis, who is the narrator of the quote, also describes Christine as Arnie s first and only true love (King 1). Further solidifying the importance of the theme love triangles within the novel. This makes it easier for the reader to accept the fact that Christine is part of the love triangle as a person rather than a car. To prove a love triangle existed since the beginning of the novel, King begins with Arnie and Dennis s first encounter of Christine. With the prologue s setting of the theme in the minds of the readers, King then introduces a female character to the story. While Dennis was driving, Arnie said, go back, I want to look at her again (King 7). By addressing the car as a female, Arnie acknowledges that the car is not seen as a car but rather an actual person. His view of Christine as a woman instead of an inanimate object adds to the love triangle because one character see s the car as a person, who can be added into the love triangle. Within the prologue, love is shown between Arnie and Christine the car. King writes, Arnie had fallen in love with a 1958 Plymouth Fury... (King 7). This quote shows Arnie has fallen for Christine head over heels. This is yet another sign of an existing love triangle within the book. These elements in the introduction that personify Christine are what make the love triangle so effective for the reader. Circle of Friends by Maeve Binchy also employs this tactic of introducing themes early within the novel through character introductions. The theme of friendship is introduced when Benny Hogan and Eve Malone

This autoimmune disease causes the immune system to attack the Hyaline Cartilage around the joints. This tough, elastic tissue is surrounded by synovial fluid for lubrication and nutrient transfer as the cartlidge is avascular. The synovium tissue encloses the fluid and is normally 1 3 cells thick composed by firbroblasts and macrophages. In RA, the white blood cells navigate to the synovium causing synovitis and the syovium thickens to 8 to 10 cells. As the disease progresses the inflammation destroys the Hyaline cartlidge and the joint begins to narrow. In the more severe stages,

Based on the scatterplots on CTenure, Comp and Res, convenience stores 5, 8, 40, 42, 44 and 75 are dropped from the model as these stores seemed to be too much of an outlier. Moreover, Res is not used further as it is now constant for all other stores (i.e. Res = 1). As already mentioned in the case, it appears that after checking for the three regression assumptions (i.e. the zero mean, constant variance and normality assumption; independence is not an issue here as it is not time series data), the relationship between employee tenure and store level performance is not linear. From Appendix B, the residual plots on MTenure as well as CTenure show a more parabolic than a linear relationship. Hence, as is suggested by Bowerman, O Connell and Murphree (2009, p. 635) a quadratic regression model is used to solve for this non linearity, by adding the two variables MTenure_Squared and CTenure_Squared. From the summary output in Appendix C it can be seen that CTenure and CTenure_Squared turn out to be insignificant, whereas Visibility is only marginally significant at the 10% level. Therefore, it can be concluded that only manager tenure has a significant positive influence on store level performance. It allows organisms to adapt to the environment as it changes. In Biology, theory of evolution does not tell us how life began on earth, but it helps us understand how life came into existence, diversified in many forms on earth, and fossil records. Scientists have many theories on evolution. One of the theories suggests all the healthy species can reproduce but they do so imperfectly. Small variations can build up over generations to create dramatic differences in the body form and function of living creature, called biological evolution. Evidence overwhelmingly suggests that all life on earth is related. Charles Robert Darwin, an English naturalist and geologist, established that all species of life on earth have descended over time from common ancestors. In 1859, Darwin released his theory of evolution in The Origin of Species. Darwin presents his idea that species evolved through process called Nature Selection. Prior to this ruling flag discretion statues strictly prohibited the burning of the American flag , as well as, disrespecting the flag in any way shape or form. In 1968, Congress reacted to the burning of the American flag in New York during a protest against the Vietnam War by passing the Federal Flag Desecration Law. In a few court cases it has been declared that burning the American flag is only illegal if the flag has been stolen. When a flag is worn/torn the proper way of disposing of the flag is to burn it; however, when disposing of a flag by burning it there are steps that should be followed in order to do so honorably. The flag should be folded in its customary manner and then placed on a fire that is fairly large with sufficient intensity to ensure complete burning of the flag. After placing the flag on the fire all individuals should come to attention, salute the flag while reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and observing a brief moment of silence. Once the flag has been completely consumed the fire should be safely extinguished and the ashes should be buried. Congress has made seven attempts to overrule the Supreme Court decision regarding the burning of the American flag by passing a constitutional amendment that had an exception to the First Amendment and allowed the government to ban flag desecration. Since Mother was born right after the Civil War and had gone through the hard and poverty stricken times in the South, [t]here was something Spartan in her nature and her seizing any possibility for making money (57). Flora s childhood was marked by her hardly knowing her parents and attending various schools, where she could hardly fit in. Overall, the theme of unconventional childhoods is one of the major themes of both novels. Most of the characters of Cold Comfort Farm seem to have psychological issues, which they developed from their childhoods. Ada Doom s seeing something nasty in the woodshed made a dominating and miserable being out of her (171). She brought up her daughter, Judit Starkadder, as an emotionally unstable. It resulted in Judith s obsession with her son, Seth Starkadder. Character Analysis Of Good Will Hunting The movie Good Will Hunting an American Drama Film was directed by Gus Van Sant, and starring Robin Williams, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Minnie Driver and Stellan Skarsgard in 1997. This movie is about a man named Good Will Hunting who was a genius but chose not to live as a genius because of fear of past experiences and the ill treatment he received when he was in foster home. Some of the other characters in the movie were supportive and some were not supportive of him. This essay discusses Good Will s personality traits and his interaction with the other characters in the movie. Good Will Huntingpossessed the following personality traits, namely: independence, intense interest in a problem, and the need for stimulation. Good Will Hunting was independent because he chose to live his own way and not conforming himself to society s pressure. Good Will Hunting proved his independence by self imposed limitation, meaning limiting his ability to enjoy complete freedom. Throughout the movie, he rejected his natural talents or gifts and initially chose to stay in South Boston with his friends. Like in the case with his girlfriend, Good Will Hunting refused to get close to people with the fear of being rejected at the end. Moreover, he refused to get higher paying jobs as was in the case of Sean Maguire, the psychology professor, who later became his counselor. It was during these counselling sessions with Good Will Hunting that we learned, Sean Maguire, was also talented in advanced mathematics, but rejected the opportunity to teach at Harvard and chose to teach at a local community college instead. Similarly, Good Will Hunting chose to remain a janitor or a construction worker where he was more comfortable. Not just did he poses the trait of independency, he also had the character of intensity of interest in a problem. As per his intensity of interest in a problem, Good Will Hunting would obsess about a problem that was presented to him until he had discovered a solution. Some examples of this in the movie were the initial math problems on the chalkboard where he could not stop working on them until he had a solution. Another is when he completed the complex homework problem for his girlfriend Skylar

I have grown up around sports my entire life and have always stayed active in following it. Over the past few years, there has been a question that has lingered over the sports world and caused a significant amount of controversy. The question would be whether or not collegeathletes should get paid to play. I have always had an opinion on this very large topic, but as time goes on, new variables keep arising and changing the factors within this skeptical topic. As I began to actually research the topic, many new aspects were brought up. Things such as universityfunds, businesses, and fairness were continuously brought up. Luckily all these were easy to look... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These contracts would include broadcasting and team apparel. For example, the University of Michigan appears to have the most lucrative deal with its eight year long Adidas sponsorship, totaling $66.5 million. However, the University of Michigan isn t the only school with a high paying deal, the University of North Carolina has a high end deal of $33.7 million dollars over a ten year contract with Nike. If it seems as if money within college sports is a popularity contest, it s because it is. The more a university is able to put its name and its student athletes names out on the market, the more money that college is able to make. The only way these colleges can get popular is by having athletes be successful on the field. The more the team wins, the more deals they are able to make, which equals more money for the university. The way that colleges try and win each year is by recruiting the best athletes that will help their team win. Though with these star athletes playing, they are not seeing a dime of the money earned through these deals. I then needed to look up the other side of the profit which, would be deals with broadcasting companies and the media. As our society today grows more reliant on the media through television, internet, and radio, more money is invested in these forms of broadcast. Many of the top college football teams are able to get airtime through the media, and this makes the colleges able to make money off their team playing. More media

Both my parents emigrated from Kosovo with no education so I am to pay for college myself; the aid not only gave me peace of mind but paired with scholarships allowed me to go to UCONN for an extremely affordable price. So for that, I thank you. If it wasn t for the generous financial help of the school I wouldn t be able to attend UCONN. Now for my appeal. There were a couple of factors that contributed to my late FAFSA application. I entrusted my father to help me through the process of completing FAFSA but due to complications with my mental health and household problems, I was unable to complete ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With all this going on, completing my financial aid became something that was set to the side. I was crippled and was only focused on getting better and not getting kicked out of UCONN. Not only was this depression hindering me from doing anything, but also my father who I entrusted to help me complete my financial aid process was not in my household for the majority of the time I went back home. My family was going through a lot at the time, and it was an ongoing struggle to keep my parents together. Because my father was not available for most of the year, it was almost impossible to complete my financial aid. My mom cannot speak English so that was not an option either. I was ultimately stuck. With this letter to you, I urge you to please hear me out and help me. I do not have the money to attend UCONN because of my family s financial situation. The aid I received was a blessing and gave me the opportunity to follow my dreams and make my parents proud. It was the main driving factor for me going to UCONN as I pay for school myself. I had worked all summer and had planned to take whatever the difference was once financial aid was factored in and pay for it with my hard earned money, but now I will not be able to do that because of a miscommunication with my father and my mental illness. If I am granted financial aid, I will do whatever it takes to overcome

While doing this, if they have any questions they just raise their hand and someone will come over and help them work through the problem. This is very different from the process of the Writing Center, where you get one on one assistance the entire appointment. Before leaving I asked Butts the same question I gave Kleinfeldt, What is the main goal of the Math Learning Center ? Butts said that his main goal as a tutor for the center was that when the student leaves they have a better understanding of how to do the math, so that they can take the knowledge with them and be able to do things on their own.

Augustus soon wondered how he could evade the destiny of assassination, which took his uncle s life. The answer he formulated was to express his position in Roman culture in very republican sounding terms . He needed to present his position in the political sense as traditional, albeit unprecedented Augustus one of a kind position was shown as a mix of the power held by different Roman authorities in past periods. The difference at this time was that they were joined by an exceptional Roman authority, the princeps senatus or first man of the Senate. Augustus was not a ruler, he proposed, but rather one of many other highly regarded and effective nobles. Regardless, the limitless forces he now wielded were held solely for the benefit of Rome, not for his own advantage. The ramifications of that claim is that Augustus ruled Rome not through power or intimidation but rather in light of the fact that he was perceived as the Roman most able to maintain the public order that had been so frequently and disastrously shattered before his advent . Under Augustus rule, the Romans grew strong and amazingly rich . Its citizens were grateful in the advantages of a long period of peace made available by the presence of a solid Roman ruler such as Augustus

Essay on Theme of Heroes in Rebecca by Daphne DuMaurier In a world of manifest superheroes, Mrs. de Winter, in Daphne du Maurier s novel, Rebecca, though quite an unanticipated heroine, proves to be selfless and courageous, the very definition of a hero. Her name never being mentioned, Mrs. de Winter, also the story s narrator, stands in direct contrast to the story s vilest character, Rebecca, and her sinister housekeeper, Mrs. Danvers. By observing the characters and setting of Rebecca, we manage to catch a glimpse of the author s personal life and how it may have influenced the writing of her novel. The daughter of two actors, Sir Gerald du Maurier and Muriel Beaumont, Daphne du Maurier grew up in the Menabilly mansion in Cornwall, England. Her childhood home is thought to be represented ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rebecca was just that with its vivid poetry and scheming plot, Rebecca was able to transport its readers to another world. Though having been published at such a strenuous time when society more easily focused on the negative aspects of life, by writing a novel like Rebecca, du Maurier proved that even though it wasn t apparent, if you looked hard enough you could find some good amidst the evil, there was a hero among the monsters. By never mentioning Mrs. de Winter s first name, du Maurier gives her heroine a certain amount of anonymity and makes her a type of backdoor heroine . Throughout the novel, the reader s attention is immersed in the mystery that is Rebecca. Although the story is narrated by Mrs. de Winter and every event is wrapped around its effect on her character, even so, one manages to focus more readily on Rebecca. However, if one analyses the novel then it becomes evident that du Maurier s purpose was for the reader to identify Mrs. de Winter as the heroine and she does this by intentionally leaving out her name as an effective way of making the character appear to be a lesser person than Rebecca, so that she is less confidant, less capable, less attractive to Maxim, not even a significant enough person to be named (Willmore). All this, to place an even greater emphasis on Mrs. de Winter s selflessness. In contrast to Mrs. de Winter s selfless qualities, Mrs.
  • 51. Whitman s Influence On Society And The Lives Of Authors... After studying American author, Walt Whitman, it is clear that he has had a long lasting impact on society and the lives of authors and artists who came after him. Through works like Democratic Vistas and Song of Myself, Whitman gave American society tools to promote creative expression and the essence of democracy. However, Whitman s methods had to be adopted over time to touch/bring attention to different social issues. Two authors who were able to branch off of Whitman s works and ideas were Isadora Duncan and James Baldwin. By analyzing these two important characters of history, we will be able explore two different social issues in two different eras and how Duncan and Baldwin refined Whitman s approach in order to make a statement in society. It s significant to identify the importance of these artists because this process is still relevant in today s society, adapting from Whitman in order to get points across and make a difference. It is imperative to go through each authors works and understand why they did what they did and how it affected the people around them. First, I will discuss Duncan and the early 1900 s (creative expression and suffrage). I ll talk about how Duncan used nude dancing as a form of art to express freedom and democracy for women. To analyze Duncan and her approach, I will use My Life, Duncan s autobiography, My Idea of Dancing and The Freedom of Woman . Next, I will ll move into Baldwin and the Civil Right s Movement in the 1960 s. I ll

Kurt Vonnegut s Epicac EPICAC Kurt Vonnegut s EPICAC demonstrates a tragic irony on how a machine s obtained humanity causes his own self destruction, and become so human to the point of inhumanity. From the point the narrator discovers a communication method with EPICAC , he is found to possess the traits one would find in the perfect human. From the narrator s words, he wasn t noble and great and brilliant. He was all of those things, and prays, God rest his souls. The narrator s accurate perception of EPICAC is quite different from the start of the story compared to the end of the story. This change esteemed from EPICAC s aid to the narrator in the form of magnificent, and emotional poems. Which, in the end, allows him to reach his goal of marrying Pat.... For example, the narrator says, a super computing machine that (who) could plot the course of a rocket from anywhere on earth to the second button from the bottom of Joe Stalin s overcoat. From this, the reader can infer that the narrator might have a lot of confidence and faith in EPICAC, and considers him as a living thing instead of the a machine through his usage of the word who. This might also change the way the reader see EPICAC because is described maybe on the borderline of impossible, but EPICAC is fully capable of doing the deed impossible for a human. Another example of clever language usage is when it says, Before he departed this vale of tears.... Machine like EPICAC cannot produce literal tears, but EPICAC is able to produce something that brings about the same feelings that tears do. His vale of tears in the form of those beautiful poems, make us go through a lot of emotional turmoil for EPICAC. The readers are unable to see EPICAC as just another machine, but someone who is equal to a human being. The third example of the author manipulating our emotions for the character is when he made the narrator say, That s fate....meaning predetermined and inevitable destiny. His blunt manner of speaking does not spare EPICAC s feelings, and the readers could feel anger towards the narrator for saying that. The author is making reader see the narrator is a villain, while EPICAC is a victim as the story progresses. These manipulations make the ending have a more powerful effect when the readers learn of the shocking plot twist the author has in store at the
