comprehension. There are two dominant perceptions which are followed in cognitive

The Struggle to Manhood In the world of The Man Who Was Almost a Man , Dave
is the seventeen year old main character and narrator of Richard Wright s short story.
Dave is an African American sharecropper who lives with his family on a white
plantation owner s land. Set in the Jim Crow South, independence is a trait that not
many Americans possess. Under Jim Crow laws, the status of an African American
man is undermined. It is humiliating to many of the men it affects because they are
often referred to as boy , and they may never achieve full citizenship due to their race.
The idea of authority holds a specific meaning towards men. Being a true man
during this time insinuates that you hold certain governance over someone or
something, like a white plantation owner will possess a heightened sense of rule
because they almost have ownership over their workers. Dave considers the gun a
phallic symbol that will solidify his power and authority that is needed for him to

Learning is a crucial component of human development; learning helps people
understand past mistakes and progress in both their personal and professional lives.
Children would remain stagnant if they did not learn which is why it is important to

I spent most of my childhood in front of a two way mirror tied down with
microphones and bombarded with tedious questions. As I grew, the silliness of an
adult asking me to repeat words soon was outgrown as the harsh reality of being

teachers would separate the grade based on intelligence. I always wanted to be in

Around about the 9th and 10th centuries, Math and Science started to flourish in
the Middle Eastern world. This time is known as The Golden Age of Islam
(Chejne 57). During this time many Middle Eastern scholars began taking the
works of the greeks and translating them into the Arabic Language. This allowed for
the Middle East to learn in a new way and brought light to this new world of
learning. Through this translation, many doors opened up which allowed for new
mathematics and scientific discoveries. Arabic then became known as the
language of mathematics and sciences (Chejne 59). While Arabic is one of the
more known languages of the Middle East and shows in great context how one
language can develop and grow as an identity for people all of the other Middle

important to a society through religion, literature, and learning Arabic also shows

Sects are commonplace in many forms of faith, no matter the religion there are still
beliefs that differ from sect to sect. As with monotheistic religions such as
Christianity, polytheistic religions like Hinduism also consist of sects. First off,
sects are sub groups of a religion that differ in beliefs and these differing principles
can be anything, such as the varying belief of who is considered the primary deity or

transformation was the result of Jaffar s magic rather than the prince s deception.

Jaffar s trickery, not the prince s duplicity and further showing that the prince is

inhospitable environments, firefighters wear a protective suit, which shields them

1.2 Computational whole body model
To suitably dissipate the excess body heat, there are two options: 1) use of cooling
mech anisms, and 2) limiting the duration of the activity, or both. The limit for the
duration of activity can be predicted with the help of algorithms based on
experimental data [4], human body simula tors [5, 6], or computational models [7].
Algorithms are developed based on the average re sponse of the human subjects tested
in controlled environmental simulators. The variations in the local environment are
limited based on the capacity of the experimental setup. Conversely, using a
computational model includes the advantages of: 1) better manipulation of the
human body ge ometry, and 2) the possibility to impose and test unfavorable
boundary conditions such as expo sure to fire. Computational models allow for the
integration of the human thermoregulatory sys tem with a physiologically realistic
geometry to determine the thermal interactions of the model with the environment.
