2. Argumentative Essay Gay
Have you ever walked through the halls and heard the term gay or fag followed by a
couple giggles? When these terms are thrown out there no one understands how
insulting they may be. Many may use the words without even thinking twice about it.
For most of us it just slips out since it s an easy, short and funny sounding insult. It s
almost a habit, right? None of this is justification for accidentally using these
offensive terms! To begin, the main conflict is that the term gayisn t even used in the
proper sense! I m sick of being tired and wanting to stay home when the boys want
to go out because all I hear is Why re you being gay and staying in? or That s so
gay Ahmad come out with us. . There is nothing gay about staying in. What my
friends mean to say is Why re you being so lazy, lame? . Out of the entire English
vocabulary we chose to use the most politically incorrect terms in a complete wrong
concept just to try to prove our point!
It s not okay to follow up your misuse of these derogatory terms with I didn t mean
it like that . Not only does it show ignorance, but it also shows a concerning lack of
intellect.
Our biggest issue is what you re implying when you use these terms! In these cases
the terms are thrown at each other demeaning and often insulting manner. How often
do you hear This guy is so good at hockey, he s such a homo! . Now of course we
don t have to absolutely diminish these terms because they still have meaning ; you
can t attack others

5. Aboriginal People
Aboriginal people are the original inhabitants of a place. Less than 500 years ago
the sole people living in Canada were the Aboriginal groups which are believed to
have had 53 different languages. First, Nations, Metis, and Inuit are the only first
groups which are constitutionally recognized in Canada. This paper addresses the
effects of residential schools, the Indian reserve system and the unbalanced treatment
of Aboriginal people in historical and contemporary texts. Residential schools and its
effects on the Aboriginal people The push to civilize the First nation s group is dated
back in the year 1876, with the amendment of The Indian Act of 1876. By 1890,

The reserve caused instability among the Indians as the Canadian government has
the right to expropriate portions of reserve for public work or move entire reserve
away from a municipality if it was considered convenient and practical even if it was
an immoral move.Unbalanced treatment of Aboriginal peopleThe aboriginal people
might be called the First Nation, but they are treated like the second class citizens.
The Indian Act passed in 1876, has imposed a lot of restrictions to the Indians. For
instance, the First Nations are forbidden to speak their language or practice their
traditional religion. They are prohibited to buy alcohol or to buy ammunition.
Initially, they were not allowed until 1960.Address of the Indian Act effects to the
Aboriginal The Indian act is discriminatory and needs to be amended so at to be in
line with the United Nation Human Right Charter. The Indian act needs more
amendment as it was done in the year 1951 and 1985 to remove some of the
controversial laws. In 1951, the act was amended and banning of dances and
ceremonies, and a pursuit of claims was removed and in 1982 it was amended to
remove discrimination against women. In the residential schools, teachers need to
integrate Aboriginal perspectives in a respectful, authentic and effective manner and
also be mindful of the different shape the Aboriginal education takes depending on
the geographical location from which it emerges
6. Class Seven Outreach Lessons Analysis
Grade Seven Outreach Days
Grade seven outreach takes place at Western Technical Commercial School during
various months of the first semester. Students from a profusion of different schools
around Toronto, come to Western to participate in various dissimilar activities in the
SHSM programs offered at Western. This is a great experience for the students who
come to Western to participate in these collaborative, logical thinking and fun
activities, because they meet new people and learn new useful skills that might
inspire them to be in a SHSM when they enter high school. The leadership teachers
designed an activity called chain of communication, which allowed the students to
put there teamwork and time management skills to the text. My job as a leader was
to ensure that everything was set up and clean when the new classes came to the

I was also honoured with the opportunity to teach, lead and be responsible for two of

7. Modernization of Sugar Essay examples
Modernization from Consumption of Sugar
According to Wikipedia, modernity is defined as a post traditional period that is
marked by the move from feudalism towards capitalism and industrialism. From the
sixteenth century through the nineteenth century, many countries and economies
progressed towards a more modern environment. Many factors contributed to the push
for modernity; however, the sugar industry exhibited major influence throughout the
world. Once sugar cane was established in the Caribbean, this new crop pushed the
region to shift from a traditional agrarian economy towards a more industrial and
capitalistic economy. The new production process made sugar readily available for
the first time in history, which allowed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After sugar was successfully mass produced in the Caribbean, this crop became
viewed as a commodity to be enjoyed by the masses rather than as an item reserved
only for a select, elite few. Because sugar was now a readily available commodity, it
slowly began to transition from a product with unique purposes, i.e. medicine, spice
and decoration, to a food product. For example, the former medicinal purposes of
sugar were now assimilated into a new function, that of a source of calories (Mintz
108). The greater availability of sugar from the Caribbean allowed for new,
modern usages of sugar to emerge. In general terms, sugar s use as a spice and a
medicine declined as its use as a decoration, a sweetener, and a preservative
increased. An increase in sugar supply drastically decreased its price, which caused
consumption of sugar in other forms to rise (Mintz 126). Jam consumption, for
example, began to catch hold among working people after the big victories of the
free trade movement of the mid nineteenth century (Mintz 126). New foods and
beverages were incorporated into daily life with unusual rapidity, and sugar had an
important role in nearly all of these new items due to increased availability and
reduction in price (Mintz 120). The greater availability of sugar throughout the world
8. The Importance Of Transgenders In The Military
Is it right that Donald Trump bans transgenders that have the capability to fight and
train like everyone else? Serving for the military is a great opportunity that has been
taken away from transgenders, that deserve that opportunity, and here s three reasons
that transgenders should be able to serve. Three reasons why transgenders should
stay in the military are they shouldn t be kicked out and deployed out of the military
despise their gender. The military will lose approximately 15,000 active troops that
were doing an amazing job at serving our country. Finally because the Donald Trump
claims that the medical cost is too much, but training and getting troops up to
readiness standards will cost more money.
First, Transgender military troops should serve in the military, because any
American who meets current medical and readiness standards should have the right
to serve in the military. They got rid of transgenders in the military, because they
don t want to pay for medical bills when a lot of the transgenders that serve in the
military have already had their surgeries done. For example, There is no reason to
force service members who can fight, train, and deploy to leave the military
regardless of their gender identity. If they can do exactly what everyone else can do,
they don t have the right to ban them from serving our country, despise their gender.
According to Ada Edelman, No American, no matter their sexual orientation or
gender identity, should be prohibited
9. Machiavelli And Fear
NiccolГІ Machiavelli was an Italian politician and writer during the sixteenth
century. He is most famous for his book The Prince which talks about how to gain
political power. His book addresses the concept of the new prince rather than the
hereditary prince who must stabilize his power as well a building political structure.
In The Prince, Machiavelli talks about whether it is better to be feared or loved.
Machiavelli states that a leader should be both feared and loved, but that if you had
to pick one, pick fear. I do believe that being feared has advantages when ruling a
country and makes a leader more successful in the long run.
It is better to be feared than loved because love is usually a chosen emotion. We tend
to choose who we love but something will usually provoke us to fear someone.
Love is at our own choice, and fear is at the Prince s choice. When a leader is
loved, he has to make everyone happy to try and keep that love going, which usually
cannot happen no matter how hard one tries. When he is feared, he will not have to
worry about what other people think. Machiavelli states that, Men ... Show more

If you are feared, no one will hurt you because they are scared of what will happen
to them. People will be afraid of the consequences such as being punished or even
being killed. Machiavelli also says that, Love is held by a chain of duty which
since men are bad, they break at every chance of their own profit (Cunningham and
Reich 35). If breaking the chain gives someone an advantage, they will break it no
matter what do what is better for them. Even if they love the person, the men
Machiavelli is talking about will put themselves first, not thinking about the people
that they love. This can still be seen in today s society as well. Love can be an
unstable emotion, changing from time to time, while fear is pretty solid and does not
10. Xenophobia In Children Of Men
We can interpret this movie through a societal lens. When we do this we can read
the director s message about the dangers of xenophobia. The film when viewed
this way makes the audience take a step back and think about how they and their
society treats refugees. This film takes real world refugee issues and puts them at
the forefront of the readers view. In Children of Men refugees have all their value
as humans taken away from them. They are herded up and put in cages, we see this
in the scenes where Theo walks around inner london, and then shipped off to places
where they don t have to be dealt with by the wealthy british population. This is a
very similar situation as what is happening in the real world. When the audience sees
this mass... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Children Of Men Wealthy non refugees are shown living in relative luxury
while refugees are treated like animals. Kee is a fugee (the populace of Children of
Mens name for refugees). Because of this she is often overlooked and maltreated,
this means that her pregnancy goes unnoticed. In a world where everyone has
been infertile for 18 years this is big news. This acts as a warning, in society people
of value are being ignored because of their refugee status. This makes the viewer
think about this kind of situation in the real world. In the real world being labeled
as a refugee over shadows your intelligence and skills, leading many refugee s
potential to be wasted. The viewer relates Kee s situation back to the situation of a
real life refugee, how many of the world s biggest problems could have been
solved by a refugee who was simply overlooked based on this status? By showing
the audience a variety of negative societal interactions with refugees in Children of
Men, Alfonso Cuaron has made people question their own society s views and
actions towards refugees. By thrusting these issues right into view Alfonso has
removed the option to hide and ignore the refugee

12. Bad Girl Film Analysis
The American Cinema of the 1950s can be noted for its various portrayals of
masculinity and dominating consumer culture geared toward male gender. Arguably
hidden behind punks and gangsters was a class of defiant girls who subverted the
gender ideals of the time and are evidenced through a series of Bad Girl films. The
bad girl filmcycle is one of the latter trends of the 50s Social Problem film and an
examination of this cycle will provide theoretical speculation regarding its influence
on the rise of the Second Wave Feminist Movement.
In order to examine the potential influence of these films and the topicality of bad
girl representation during the 1950s scare of juvenile delinquency, the following
lines of inquiry will be explored:
1.An examination of the evolution of female representation in various film genres of
the 1950s highlighting the commonly subservient role of female characters and the
gender roles perpetuated through texts of this decade.
2.Next, I will reiterate the Social Problem film and the scare of juvenile delinquency
during the 1950s. I will introduce the bad girl film genre in more detail, expanding
the tropes/motifs of this cycle, and demonstrates how this genre can be
subcategorized as a social problem film.
3.In order to understand the contention surrounding the bad girl films and its context
in 1950s society, I will discuss the American Dream ideology of the time, primarily
through its portrayal on television. We can note the struggle

15. Analysis Of English Tense And Aspect
Analyzing English tense and aspect is presented with the idea that it has temporal
relations within a sentence. The reference points are used by the terminal and initial
points of real time events. There is also two hypothetical times: (Dalrymple pg. 68):
the perfect time (that is pertaining to the perfect aspect) and the progressive (which is
during time). When continuing analysis of tense and aspect, it requires to identify if
the relationships will or will not substantiate among time and events. For instance if I
say Ken ate a frozen dinner, it can be established that this sentence is past tense, and it
includes that the time of this main event which is eating a frozen dinner precedes the
time of statement within this sentence. In... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Examples: (note: S stands for speech time. R for reference time. E for event time.)
These examples will provide a visual as to what was explained above.
Present Tense: E, R, S I am in California.
Past Tense: E, R......S I was in California when I saw her.
Past Perfect: E....R....S I had been in California when I saw her.
Future Perfect: S....E....R I will have been to California when is see you next.
It can be seen from these classifications of tenses above that the relative tenses and
the reference time are split apart(this is what the use of the periods are for to
demonstrate the time splits). Another thing to analyze is that only in the future
perfect tense does speech time occurs first in the sentence.
In addressing the past perfect tense, the lecture states that the role of the past perfect
is backshifting in the sequence of tense which is why I represented the time split from
event time, reference time and speech time apart us such.
Other examples offered: He said that he preferred the darker cigars. (past
tense=present tense) He said that he had selected the darker cigar. ( past perfect=
present tense)
These examples display the ideal of backshifting. Both instances of these sentences
are in the past in time, however they can be interpreted as an event currently
happening now.
The lecture from the University of Colorado also offers this analogy to better
understand aspect versus tense:
16. Refreshments And Food In The 1920s
Refreshments and foods during the 1920s were the heart of the parties during this
time. Without good refreshments and foods a party was not complete. Things that I
will touch on include prohibition, how prohibition affected refreshments, things
caused from prohibition, 1920s foods, refreshments, and cocktails. These things
together were the main parts involving around refreshments and foods during the
1920s. Nevertheless, I will start on the igniter that created a lot of attention around
refreshments, which is Prohibition. In 1919 a law was passed that outlawed the sale,
manufacture, and transportation of liquor throughout the states. This law was the
18th amendment and was enforced at the start of 1920. The main reasoning behind
passing the amendment was to reduce crime and corruption, improve health and
hygiene, and solve social issues within the country. Another problem that was meant
to be solved by the amendment, was to reduce the tax burden that was created by
poorhouses and prisons. These problems that the 18th amendment was meant to fix
worked initially but the rebellion because of this new rule was not taken into
consideration. This thought leads into the effect of prohibition on refreshments after
a year of being a law. Prohibition created a huge push for alcohol which really
sparked a want for refreshments and to party. Alcohol consumption started to increase
as people rebelled against the 18th amendments. This increase in the consumption of
alcohol led to
17. Caregiving For Older Adults
In fact, nearly 66 million people in the United States currently provide care,
assistance and support for a family member who is elderly or who is living with a
disability (CICOA). There are also individuals who provide care and assistance for
infants, children and household pets. There are formal and informal caregivers, a
formal or familycaregiveris defined as, an individual, age 18 or older who provides
unpaid care to family member or friend who need assistance with everyday activities
while a formal caregiver is a paid care provider ( Hunt, 2015; Caregiver.org, 2016).
This paper will report over caregiving for older adults, alternative placement
options, personal statements from a caregiver and resources on caregiving for
older adults. My report will focus on family caregivers and those providing care for
older adults. How are these caregivers and what do they do? In the 2015 Report,
Caregiving in the U.S., an estimated 43.5 million caregivers have provided unpaid
care to an adult or child in the last 12 months. The average caregiver can be
described as an older female who is currently employed or was employed caring for
an older relative with physical condition. The majority are relatives, parents or
parent in law with one out 10 being a spouse (Caregiving in the U.S., 2015). More
than 96% of caregivers will perform activities of daily living (ADL) such as getting

financial woe was due to issues in the supply chain; costs were not being squeezed

20. How Does The Appendix Affect The Human Body
The appendix is a tube shaped sac that is attached to and opening into the lower end
of the large intestine of humans and some other mammals. For human s the appendix
is an average of 9 centimeters long, but can range from 2 centimeters to 20
centimeters. The diameter is between 7 centimeters to 8 centimeters. The appendix is
most commonly located near the right hip bone in the right lower quadrant of the
abdomen(See Appendix A for image). The bottom portion of the appendix is
approximately two centimeters below the ileocecal valve, a sphincter muscle that
separates the small and large intestines. This sign is named after Dr. Charles
McBurney; he was the man to discover the pressing location to help assess the
severity of the appendicitis... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No scientist or research team has been able to discover what the appendix provides
or does for the body. Its has been an unsolved mystery for many years. A recent
study done by a team of scientists out of Midwestern University has suggested that
the appendix does have a function for the human body. The study was done by
tracking a total number of 533 mammal species for an overall of 11 million years.
The team looked for specific instances in which the appendix had disappeared or
reappeared. When the organ would reappear this would show that there was an
evolutionary necessity for the appendix.
Through this research and intense study it was discovered that the appendix
reappeared in mammals between 29 and 41 times. The organ had only disappeared
from lineages 12 times; this strongly suggests that the appendix provides a function to
the body that has not been discovered. The authors of the study wrote, Thus, we can
confidently reject the hypothesis that the appendix is a vestigial structure with little
adaptive value or functions among mammals. (Office of Communications,

22. What Is Machiavelli s View On Government
Unlike many others of his time, Machiavelli based his political views on the
practical world instead of the ideal world. He recognized that he did not live in an
ideal world and that world would never and could never exist. In an ideal world
there would be no power, it would be unnecessary. However, he was pessimistic
about men and their intentions. He believed that anyone would behave immorally
when the time occurred where it would benefit him or herself. He used this
judgement to write his book, The Prince. He wrote is as a guideline for leaders and

At first Forbidden seem to be another typical young adult paranormal romance, with
the mysterious guy and the new girl setting that may seem a little familiar. However

During the process of writing the Intervention Plan I met with the client on a number
of occasions. During those times I observed the client participating in different
activities to try and determine her level of cognitive and physical function. I also
spent time talking with her about activities she enjoyed to include both current and
past activities such as crafts, exercise and reading. Under the supervision of the
recreational therapist the following are activities that I performed with the client and
how and why I determined the activityI chose for her intervention plan. The client
stated on several occasions how important she thought exercise was and willingly
participated in morning exercises and daily walks. During the walks the client
relied heavily on others to guide her due to her visual and cognitive deficits. In my
opinion she will not be independent functionally mobile and I feel there is nothing
that I can do to improve her current level of function leaving me to the conclusion
that activity would not work for an intervention plan. During morning exercises the
client was able to perform all exercises correctly and was very motivated however,
on a regular basis the client would ask if she was doing them correctly. I noticed
during another activity she would also ask if she was doing it correctly. Taking into
account her concern for how she performed I planned on asking her to assist me in
leading morning activities, the idea being to re enforce a positive

27. Essay On Sea Otters
Describe the biological mechanisms through which global warming can influence the
Sea Otter (Enhydra lutris).
In today s society, global warming is a serious issue and more attention needs to be
drawn to the impacts of this issue and how we can help lessen the intensity of these
impacts, especially on organisms. These changes in global temperatures have had a
great effect on the biological mechanisms through which organisms are distributed in
their habitats and the redistribution of species can cause a change in species
interactions and result in endangerment or extinction (Hughes, 2000). This essay
will be looking at how global warming has influenced biological mechanisms of the
sea otters (Enhyrdra lutris), which affects their population and distribution of this
endangered species (IUCN Red List, 2016). The sea otters are currently considered
endangered according to the IUCN Red list due to pathogenic infections,
physiological stress caused by oil spills and predation by new species.

These biological mechanisms include the changing pathogenic distribution of Vibrio
parahaemolyticus and Toxoplasma gondii, causing more sea otters to be infected
since global warming has caused an increase of water temperature. Sea otters are
extremely vulnerable to oil spills as oil disrupts the heat insulating and buoyancy
properties of its fur, forcing sea otters to increase their metabolism which requires
more food sources. This, of course, decreases the population of this species. Due to
the changing interactions between this species and killer whales, sea otters are
being predated by killer whales as an alternative food source. The killer whales usual
prey items, which are seals and sea lions are becoming more unavailable due to the
decreasing availability of sea
28. Analysis Of The Novel Franny And Zooey By J.d. Salinger
Human life is a blend of myriad of emotions. Our emotions add facets to our
humanity they give us dimensions and make us the social, emotional and intellectual
beings we are. People go through both good and rough times. While some persevere
through these times, some crack and acquire fissures. In the novella Franny and Zooey
by J.D. Salinger, Franny Glass is undergoing a similar identity and existential crisis
which severely derails her life. Disenchanted by the superficiality of the world
surrounding her, Franny embarks on a process of purgation, distancing herself
from the world along the way. Franny s folly in assuming that the change she is
looking for can only be achieved by detaching herself from her life, the things that
matter the most to her, starting anew, shows her dogmatic approach to self
purification. In seeking union with reality which is what the mystical experience
is, she leaves the reality of her life behind herself, resulting in her ending up
stranded in a perilous path of self questioning. Franny Glass is on a journey of self
discovery. Driven by the notion that everything and everyone she knows is selfish
and phony, Franny tries to imitate a life of seclusion and monastic living. She is
influenced by her brother Seymour s way of life, his philosophies and the book
The Way of A Pilgrim she finds on his desk. The book recounts the story of a
Russian monk who goes around ceaselessly saying the name of Godin hopes of
connecting more closely with
29. Earthquake Preparedness Should Be A High Priority
The Pacific Northwest is perceived to be a fairly safe place to live. This is true, but
the Northwest is not untouchable. In fact, the Pacific Northwest is at risk for a
megathrust earthquake of nine magnitudes. Japan was devastated with a nine
magnitude earthquake in 2011; this level of natural disaster would be destructive
anywhere in the world, but the idea it could happen right in our front yard makes the
threat more real, personal. Earthquakepreparedness is important because it saves lives.
While building codes and funding to earthquake warning systems do make a
difference, these methods are not practical when facing a megathrust earthquake.
Earthquake preparedness is a combination of education and material preparedness. In
awareness of this megathrust earthquake in the Pacific Northwest, earthquake
preparedness should be a high priority.
A megathrust is the world s largest type of earthquake, often nine in magnitude or
higher. These earthquakes only occur on subduction zones, which are where the
borders of major plates overlap one another. The Cascadia Subduction Zone is located
along the coast of the northwest, starting in Vancouver, British Colombia and ending
in northern California. There has not been a megathrust earthquake in the last 300
years or so in the Northwest. The last megathrust earthquake occurred on January 26,
1700. According to Holden, while there are no written records of the earthquake, the
tsunami it caused was recorded by villages in Japan. The
30. Persuasive Essay On Wild Horses
Wild horses are something that most people know about, at least to an extent. To
many they are the embodiment of the word freedom , they are creatures that have
been around for centuries roaming free in the mountains and wilderness, pretty
much left unchecked except by their natural predators. Gorgeous, majestic, and full
of spirit are words that can all be used to describe wild horses and pictures of them
make great desktop backgrounds and calendars that show a peaceful and
wonderful view of nature. What, then, is the issue with the wild horses and why
are there arguements over what needs to be done with them? As a brief
explanation wild horses are becoming a nuisance for everyone around them the
ecosystem and humans alike. When left unchecked, as they had been before, what
happens, and why is it such a big deal? One very big word can explain it all:
Overpopulation. Eventually the overpopulation of these beasts would cause, and
already has started to cause, an imbalance and irreversible damage in the
ecosystems they roam in. Problems that would, and do, occur would be the fact
that there would not be enough food or water for them as well as other herbivores,
which, in turn, would cause omnivores and carnivores to lack a food source once
their prey starts dying out due to starvation. Some species may even die out, plants
and animals alike, if something is not done sooner rather than later. Poor grazing
management would be included into the overpopulation category simply because
the more horses there are the more grasses and other plants they would need to eat
on a daily basis. Not all of the plant depletion was caused by the horses, however.
They had a huge help from one particular species: Humans. Humans have long
since conquered many areas in the world and have taken much of the land from
the animals that occupy the area alongside them, even wiping out whole species
within a short time period. Very little space is left for creatures, like the wild
horses, to roam and graze because ranchers were allowing their cattle to graze in the
same spots as the wild animals who then had to find other sources of food and
ultimately caused the entire recourse to either be gone completely or very sparce.
Now the horses

I. Introduction
The Old Man and the Sea is one of the finest works of literature of the 20th century,
and was published in 1952 after the bleakest ten years in Hemingway s literary career.

Weeks. His notorious 1962 piece, Fakery in The Old Man and the Sea, presents a
series of points that he claims show how the novella is a weak and unexpected
divergence from the typical, realistic Hemingway. In juxtaposing this novella
against Hemingway s previous works, he explains that: The difference, however, in
the effectiveness with which Hemingway employs this characteristic device in his
best work and in The Old Man and the Sea is illuminating. The work of fiction in
which Hemingway devoted the most attention to natural objects, The Old Man and
the Sea, is pieced out with an extraordinary quantity of fakery, extraordinary because
one would expect to find no inexactness, no romanticizing of natural objects in a
writer who loathed W.H. Hudson, could not read Thoreau, deplored Melville s
rhetoric in Moby Dick, and who was himself criticized by other writers, notably
Faulkner, for his devotion to the facts and his unwillingness to invent . (7)

36. Historical Simulation Paper
Historical simulation is one popular way of estimating VAR. It involves using past
data as a guide to what will happen in the future. Suppose that we want to calculate
VAR for a portfolio using a 1 day time horizon or 10 day time horizon, a 99%
confidence level, and 260 days of data. (The time horizon and confidence level are
those typically used for a market risk VAR calculation; 260 is a popular choice for
the number of days of data used because, as we shall see, it leads to 259 or 250
scenarios being created.) The first step is to identify the market variables affecting
the portfolio. These will typically be interest rates, equity prices, commodity prices,
and so on. All prices are measured in the domestic currency. For example, one market
variable for an Indian bank is likely to be the Nifty50 measured in Rupees. Data are
collected on movements in the market variables over the most recent 260 days. This
provides 259 or 250 alternative scenarios for what can happen between today and
tomorrow. Denote the first day for which we have data as Day 0, the second day as
Day 1, and so on. Scenario 1 is where the percentage changes in the values of all
variables are the same as they were between Day 0 and Day 1. Scenario 2 is where...

In other words, it requires that we estimate only two factors an expected (or
average) return and a standard deviation which allow us to plot a normal

38. The Switch To Indirect Imperialism
Due to the Industrialization of European countries during the late nineteenth and
early twentieth centuries, exploitative imperialism was the only viable option for
continued sustainable growth. The switch to indirect imperialism was a temptation
for governments in many countries, an idea which would continue their economic
growth following the ideals of free trade. This concept would then be practiced with
those regions of the globe indirectly managed by the imperial powers to gain similar
economic advantages to directly controlling the territory. By laying the usual colonial
responsibilities aside, the European empires could gain more money in the short term
from their possessions without the financial investments. This flavor of imperialism
was practiced when it followed a period of direct imperialism. Elsewise it was in
danger of losing the political capital that such systems relied upon. Due to its
inherent western concepts, the ideals of free trade required the subsidiary partner of
the indirect imperialism required a firm alliance in culture and political goals and
views to be successful when opposed to direct imperialism.
The costs of direct imperialism are incredibly varied and require an amount of
affluence from the home country that necessitates only the most wealthy and

level of commitment required to succeed. Commonly, the land that is to be colonized

The distinction between I and him is emphasized by Jonson s assertion of an
answer to Shakespeare s way of doing things. The quest for self knowledge has
been integral to the structures and evolution of human society throughout history.
During the early modem period, the classical maxim of nosce teipsum operated
almost universally, not only as a prompt towards, but also as a goal of, both
individual and communal achievement and actualization. At one level, Hamlet s
tribute may be taken as an adumbration of the Renaissance engagement with the
epistemological enquiries into the nature of man, and his place and function in the
cosmic chain of being. What a piece of work is a man, How noble in reason, how
infinite in faculty, in form and moving how express and admirable, in action how
like an angel, in apprehension how like a god the beauty of the world, the paragon
of animals. And yet to me what is this quintessence of dust? Jonson explicitly bases
their sense of the play s similarity upon theories of comedy that imply such
affirmation. In Volpone and The Alchemist, Jonson sues irony to expose how far
short of the ideal is the world of the play, and thus celebrates the ideal indirectly. If the

41. Jeremy Bentham And Utilitarianism
Jeremy Bentham was an English philosophy (1748 1632) who challenged the idea
of the Social Contract theory, which states that the people create a social contract
to agree to form of government. Bentham opposed the idea of natural rights and
followed the idea of utilitarianism. Utilitarianism is the idea that political and moral
decision should not be based on natural rights, but based on which choice produces
the greatest good for the greatest number . For an example, this principle explains
whether a student should start a food fight or not. The food fight could cause
injuries (i.e someone slipping on food), property damage, and extra work for the
people who must clean it up. Starting the food fight may produce good for some
people, but... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only way to fix this would be through a classless society. In this society, there
would be no churches, and no one would have to pay for their personal properties.
Money would basically be none existent, as people will contribute to the things
they want. In the Communist Manifesto, Karl Marx writes Communism deprives
no man of the power to appropriate the products of society: all that it does is to
deprive home of the power to subjugate the labor of others by means of such
appropriation (Caste 265). Under this classless society communism , everyone
would be on equal grounds with no more classes. Everyone would also be given
the necessities they need to live, such as a home. By doing this, Marx thought it
would eliminate capitalism, which would eliminate the greediness of people.
Comparison As stated earlier, utilitarianism is the idea that political and moral
decisions should be not be based on the pursuit of natural rights (life, liberty, and
the pursuit of happiness), but based on the decision of which choice would produce
the greatest good for the greatest amount of people. In other words, one should not
be selfish when it comes to making decisions. That is what utilitarianism and Marx s
classless society has in common. Marx s classless society is also trying to eliminate

42. Teens And Teenage Depression
Many kids who have attempted suicide (and survived) say that they did it because
they mistakenly felt there was no other solution to a problem they were
experiencing. (Help). Depression can lead to suicidal thoughts and attempts. What
can help prevent teens that feel depressed to end up feeling like there is no
solution? Something needs to be put in to place before more lives are lost. Many
teens can develop depression before adulthood but they may not fully understand it
or how to cope with it, educating teens and parents on depression as well as
providing a safe haven for students to discuss their issues will help remedy the
problem. Depression is a problem that can affect teens before adulthood.
Depression is common amongst teens because of experiences and the many
changes they are going through. Teen depression is a serious mental health
problem that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest in activities.
(MAYO). Many things play a part in teens becoming depressed such as social
media, family issues, academics, and just life in general. For some teens, they blow
their problems out of portion and over react. While others have serious problems or
issues that require medical attention. These issues can be stemmed from traumatic
experiences, inherited traits, and medical disorders that can lead to depression. In
our society, teens look to social media for guidance and to also define their character.
It puts a blindfold on teens eyes and tells them
43. Fast Food Culture
I) Emergence
The fast food culture emerged as early as the 19th century. During the Industrial
Revolution, a large workforce was required to work for 10 to 12 hours a day. With so
much work to be done, fast food was the idea of a quick and easy lunch.
In India, fast food culture emerged in the decades after independence, starting from
the 1950 s. Eating at home used to be a significant aspect of Indian culture, so the
change was gradual. Over a period of time, with a growth in the number of nuclear
families, economic growth and increasing per capita income as well as globalization,
fast food culture gained prominence. Women were shifting from their conventional
roles of managing the household and taking care of the children. With growth in ...

This requires a high degree of food engineering , the use of additives and processing
techniques that substantially alter the food from its original form and reduce its
nutritional value.
The Indians living in the cities have completely forgotten about their traditional
Indian dishes and took to the Western fast food culture. A survey conducted by a
leading Indian newspaper says that over 23 per cent of the children in Delhi are
obese. One hopes that this estimate is not true; if it is, one shudders to think of the
numbers in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, Kolkata, Gurgaon and other
nouveau riche cities with their fast prevailing mall culture and fast food attractions.
Here is a typical scene from one such mall in Hyderabad. It has a 4 movie multiplex
theatre, surrounded by 40 odd fast food kiosks and 20 odd shops that sell clothing,
perfumes and jewellery, music and video CDs and DVDs. Not one of them sells
traditional Indian meals or snacks. And the mall, like 20 others in the city, is filled
with thousands of youngsters who obviously have enough to spend. We did not have
such scenes in India twenty years ago, but this mall and fast food culture is
expanding explosively across India. This too is part of the globalization of India, a
part that causes great concern about the health of its citizens.
Today, the world is witnessing a total
44. Slaughter Industry Analysis
. It is estimated that in the past 70 years over a million dolphins and porpoises have
been killed in hunts off the coast of Japan.
To put this in perspective quotas and catch limits enacted by the Japanese Fisheries
Agency in the calendar year 2013 allowed for the killing of 16,655 small cetaceans.
This industry though under the veil of regulation in Japan is actually highly
unregulated with many rules allowing for discretion on the side of the fishermen
rather than direct input from scientist. Current analysis of the available data
demonstrates concerns regarding the sustainability of these hunts.

Drive hunts penetrate the international market with both live animals for the
aquarium industry and food products. In the past 10 years animals that were
slaughtered accounted for 99% of the catches however trade in live animals is highly
profitable and financially sustain the hunts for food in the face of declining demand
for dolphin products. Live animals typically bring between 660,000 and 7,712,000
yen ($8,406 $98,222) per dolphin in the years 2002 2012. By comparison, a
bottlenose dolphin killed for the meat trade will fetch 50,000 yen (approximately
US$500 as reported in 2009), less than a tenth of the value of a live dolphin.
International exports have exceeded $15 million dollars over the past decade (2002
2012), with 389 dolphins transported to 15 different countries.
On the other hand the value of cetaceans to the aquarium industry is often argued as
education. This value however could be seen as largely human centric. University of
Illinois communications professor Susan G. Davis says this concept is a very
radically human centric value. It is that human beings, but especially humans
organized as a big economic conglomerate, can create and recreate the natural world. I
just think that is preposterous (Alexander,
45. Advocacy As A Professional Counselor
Advocacy is someone or a group that supports a cause or a person. As a
professional counselor, they advocate for their clients as well as issues
surrounding their profession. As a counselor, it is important to advocate for the
profession because it shows that you care about the issues pertaining to your field
of work. Advocating for the counseling profession consist of making the public
more aware of the benefits of counseling as well as bring about political changes by
enhancing awareness of their services, counselors can help people with making

46. Ohio State University Traffic Investigation Report
Introduction
Maintaining a safe environment for all students, staff, and visitors on campus is one
of the Ohio State University s greatest concerns. As one of the most common and
dangerous threats to student safety, traffic safety is always a vital consideration. Due
to pedestrian complaints, the university has directed their attention Woody Hayes
Drive and Olentangy River Road. The team has been appointed to approach this issue
using a spot speed method. The purpose of this experiment was to collect and
evaluate traffic speed data in the area in order to determine if further action from the
university is necessary to improve traffic safety.
The next section, experimental methodology, describes how the experiment was
setup, carried out, and the conditions in which the experiment took place. Section 3
displays the results that were obtained from the experimental procedure, as well as
provides a brief description as how the data were evaluated. Section 4 attempts to
create a logical interpretation as to what the results mean, as well as identify any
potential errors that may have skewed the results. Finally, section 5 summarizes the
report, and suggests conclusions for the results posed throughout the experiment and
potential solutions to errors discussed in section 4.

cumulative frequency and frequency graphs shared an x axis, vertical lines were
drawn down from these two points and used to find the cumulative percent limits of

47. Corruption In Like Murder, My Sweet, The Big Sleep
The world in this film is portrayed in a realistic fashion like many film noirs that
revolve around the hard boiled detective novel hero on a case. The film follows
detective Philip Marlowe a private eye that was also the main character of Murder,
My Sweet as he tries to solve yet another mystery. Like Murder, My Sweet, The Big
Sleepcomes from a hard boiled detective novel by Raymond Chandleran author who
criticized classic detective novels for lacking realism. The Big Sleep features life
like characters with realistic goals and drives. The common drive of many of these
characters in the film is money, which is a drive that is believable and common in
reality. This need for, and corruption by money, is the basis for why these characters

The theme of corruption is a theme based in realism, and is the basis and the
backbone of the entirety of the film. All of the characters in the film are corrupt in
some way or another except for the protagonist Philip Marlow, who serves as the
truth seeking blackened knight who doesn t find much motivation out of money but
finds purpose in solving mysteries and saving women. Philip Marlow is the one
outlier in this world of corruption who not only does not get seduced by it, but works
to fight against it. Throughout the film, the viewpoints that money breeds corruption
and that men are easily corruptible, are frequently alluded to. In the first sequence of
the film, detective Marlowe and his client General Sternwood are in a green house,
the General talks about his dislike for orchid due to there similarity to men. Nasty

48. Essay about Ray Charles Robinson
Ray Charles Robinson
Ray Charles Robinson, more commonly known as Ray Charles (to avoid confusion
with boxer Sugar Ray Robinson), was born in the southern city of Albany, GA on
September 23, 1930. He was a prolific, multi talented singer, pianist, bandleader, and
composer who, when on stage captivated his audience not only by his musical
ability, but also because he was a blind, African American man. He was given the
nickname the Genius for his capability of combining the music of gospel, jazz, pop,
country and rhythm and blues (R B), known as soul music.

About a year later, in 1951, Charles recorded his first hit song, Baby, Let Me Hold
Your Hand. Charles musical style was heavily influenced by Nat King Cole and
Charles Brown. But he was able to do even more with his music, and more or less
created a whole new musical genre, especially after meeting musical mogul
Quincy Jones, who took Charles under his wing. He drew mainstream, national
attention with his performance of I Got a Woman and Hallelujah, I Love Her So,
fusing gospel with R B and jazz. The group had a few million seller records, and
with this boost in his career, Charles was able to attain his own record deal with
Atlantic Records in 1954. In 1955, Charles formed his own band, frequently
backed by a group of female gospel style singers known as the Raelettes, with
whom he traveled for many years. In 1959, Charles recorded What d I Say which
became his own first million dollar seller. Soon after, he left Atlantic Records for
ABC Records because he felt that they wanted him to strictly be an R B performer
and weren t willing to grow with him and his music.
By the mid 1960 s, after fighting a long, uphill battle to end his seventeen year
addiction to heroin, Charles finally regained control over his life. He started his
own record label, Tangerine (later known as Crossover), and recorded some of his
most famous songs Georgia on My Mind, I Can t Stop Loving You and the hit pop
song Hit the Road
49. Iraq War 2003 Essay
Before the invasion to Iraq and during the war, many Americans were misinformed
about the Iraq issue. They played a significant role in building and maintaining the
support for this military operation. A study called Misperceptions, the Media and the
Iraq War by The Program on International Policy Attitudes (PIPA) showed that many
people held misperception about three main topics: involvement of the Iraqi
government in 9/11 and Al Qaeda, evidence of the weapons of mass destruction, and
favorable views of world public opinion. According to their polls, 57% of people
thought that Iraqwas directly involved in the 9/11 attacks or gave substantial
support to Al Qaeda. Moreover, 22% of respondents believed that weapons of mass
destruction were found in Iraq after the war and that Iraq actually used weapons of
mass destruction during the war, and one third thought that world public opinion has
approved of the US going to war with Iraq.
These misperceptions are one of the reasons, why Iraq war in 2003 became an
extensively discussed topic for many reasons and from many perspectives. One of

Suppose your child just started kindergarten and possibly the most important thing
that is overlooked up to this point is college. Did you know that starting early to

With the college tuition inflation rates increasing each year, it is very important to
start early so you and your child can be prepared. A national study by Sallie MaeВ®
shows that only 48% of families are saving for college. This is compared to 51% in
2014, 50% in 2013, and 60% in 2010. It is a substantial decrease from previous years.

The 529 Plan, which is named after a section in the Internal Revenue Code, is a
qualified tuition plan that is operated by a state or educational institution. They
offer tax benefits and other advantages. Nearly every state offers a 529 Plan and
can be chosen based on preference of the features and benefits of each plan. There
are two types of 529 Plans: College Savings Plans and Pre Paid Tuition Plans.
Savings Plans work much like a 401(k) where the funds can be saved in mutual
fund accounts. Prepaid plans let you pre pay all or part of the college tuition. Since
each state differs based on investment options households need to consider many
factors, including the age of the beneficiary, their own risk tolerance, and their
overall financial situation. Households may find some options more suited to their
savings needs than others. Whatever option is chosen will be the best option well
suited depending on the individual. The following pictures will show two different
savings plans in two different states: These two are the Savings Plans that can be

in Illinois can be enrolled through a financial advisor where individuals interested in
the Texas College Savings Plan can be enrolled directly into the program. Both plans

51. The Influence Of Playing Pokemon Go
Participating in the survey were 193 high school and middle school aged students
from a mid sized southeastern school. Forty four percent of the respondents were
male, and 56% were female. Seventy eight percent of the respondents were
between the ages of twelve and fifteen, while 22% of the respondents were
between the ages of sixteen and eighteen. Only about 1 of 10 students (9.8%) said
that when Pokemon Go was popular they played every day. However, roughly 3 in
10 students (31.6%) answered that when it was popular their friends played every
day. The hypothesis stated: Males playvideo games significantly more than females.
As the results demonstrate, there was a significant difference between males and
females with respect to playing Pokemon Go while it was popular ( t= 4.507, p

than females (M=1.38). Although the results were not as strong, there was also a
large difference between males and females with respect to perception of their
friends playing (t=2.627, p=.009). The results of this question show that males
believe their peers play much more (M= 2.77) than females (M= 2.31).

53. Descriptive Essay About Bo Jackson
There are many athletes in this world that prove themselves as if they are not like
any other you will see in the current generation. There are ones that jump as far as a
kangaroo and be as strong as a crocodile s jaws snap; but there is only one of these
proven athletes that has all of these assets down and can do them better. Bo Jackson
was one of those individuals that you honestly questioned if he was human or if he
was a gift from aliens who wanted to create a perfect athlete. From hitting balls, to
throwing and carrying them, anyone who watched Bo for more than 5 minutes had
almost create an image in their head of how perfectly he did everything. With all
these combined Bo jackson showed how he was a modern herowith his born talents,
his strength and fearlessness, and of course his talent in gaining followers to
watch him perform his magic. From the transitions of baseball to football and the
high jumping to sprinting, even at a young age many knew that Bo was not the
average bird in the flock. His talent and expertise showed his strength in being a
part of a noble birth and it was not the hardest to spot. Even with the early
disabilities of his childhood haunting him in his room day after day, the stuttering
would finally stop with his strength being available at the mite of his now present
anger. During school kids would know of the beast of a child to not mess with
because of the speed at which Bo threw crab apples to others in fights and the
myths or truths of him killing pigs with only the small rocks shown on the ground.
Fake or true, almost every story that was heard, told, explained that included Bo,
almost always seemed to be real to everyone. Even with the public knowing he was
great at an older age, with the starting of his youth, every kid that had heard of him
knew, he was not normal. As his age grew larger and larger, the way of fighting and
supposedly being violent had come to a stop with the opportunity of high schools
sports coming up right around the corner. The general populous knew of his strength
and skill in outdoor activities but no one was aware of how spectacular he could or
was going to be with high schoolsports. Before football season even started many of

2.2 Fraud risks in online banking
The threat landscape
The section above traced the evolution of the banking industry s adoption of IT based
innovations with the aim of offering a suite of products and services to delight their
retail and corporate customers and to gain cost reduction and market share. Whilst
these developments have grown the market universe exponentially it has also created
opportunities for crime syndicates and fraudsters to take advantage of the wider
canvas and customer ignorance thrown up by the variety of online banking
applications. According to Financial Fraud Action UK (2014), in the first six months
of 2014, losses on remote banking fraud rose to ВЈ35.9 million, up 59 per cent from
2013 in the U.K. Online banking fraud comprised ВЈ29.3 million of that total, up 71
per cent from 2013. This has made the online banking service retailers sensitive to
the erosion in their profits as well as the increased levels of anxiety in customers. To
arrest this trend the banks are constantly endeavouring to evolve their payment and
transaction rules in the hope of thwarting the criminal and fraud activity and to stay
ahead. The fraudsters are never far behind as they constantly shift their focus from the
well defended to less defended targets or the weakest links in the market. With time to
market pressures the banks often launch new products and services without adequate
safeguards or defence. Indeed, the newness of the services, and the unknowns about

55. Analysis Of The Creation Myth
The Creation Myth is found within Genesis and is about the creation of man, the
first one is named Adam. Adam was created out of dust in God s image. He was
placed within a utopia, the Garden of Eden, with all the provisions he needed to live
in happiness forever. However, this predetermined destiny never came to be. During
this story, we see another character emerge, she is called a woman and is named Eve.
Eve is treated much differently than Adamis, and is blamed for the change in Adam s,
and therefore all human kinds, fate. The reader can see a gender hierarchy emerge
during the creation myth, and notices the difference in treatment between Adam and
Eve. The order of creation is one way to notice the differences in Adam and Eve.
The Lord God created Adam first. He then tells Adam the rules of the Garden of Eden
, He says You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from
the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will
certainly die. (Genesis 2, Adam and Eve). The Lord God then creates Eve, never
telling her the rules of the Garden of Eden. He is given the job of informing Eve of
the rules, this puts him in a position of power and authority over her.
Adam and Eve were created for two different purposes. Adam was created to care for
the Garden of Eden. However, as read in Genesis 2, the Lord God says It is not good
for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him. (Genesis 2, Adam and
Eve.) It is easy
