The Gambino Crime Family
Paul Castellano, or Big Paul was an eight grade dropout and boss of the richest, most dangerous, and
most powerful crime syndicate in the United States. Born June 26, 1915 in Brooklyn, Big Paul began
his life in the mob by running numbers. When he was named successor to the great Carlo Gambino,
trouble arose. Many members felt that Aniello Dellacroce, although in prison, deserved the role but
instead Gambino had promoted Paul. Some saw this as nepotism which was generally frowned upon
on by La Cosa Nostra. To settle tensions Castellano gifted Neil Dellacroce some of the family s most
lucrative operations throughout Manhattan and Queens, but this did not completely satisfy the slighted
underboss. Paul, like Gambino, was an unusual type of Mafia boss. Unfortunately, while Don Carlo
was revolutionary, Big Paul was unsatisfactory. He was embarrassed that he was categorized as a
gangster and preferred to be regarded as a diplomat or businessman. Big Paul was said to look more
like a businessman or CEO than a mobster. Paul Castellano was flashy too; he liked elegant clothing,
fine dining, and being driven around by chauffeur. He even detested violence which is not a good
quality for a mob boss to obtain. The Pope as he was referred to, was standoffish. His predecessor had
gone to the markets in Little Italy, held court in public places, lived in the city, and interacted with his
soldiers and capos. Big Paul on the other hand, generally held court at his private estate, did

Quantitative Study Critique
Group Quantitative Research Study Critique
This critique analyzes the research study, A community based exercise programme to improve
functional ability in people with Alzheimer s disease: a randomized controlled trial , by Vreugdhil,
Cannell, Davies, and Razay (2011). This critique will evaluate the research question, hypothesis, study
variables, literature review, population and sample, ethical considerations, procedures for data analysis
and collection, and the findings and conclusions. It will also synthesize the findings of the research for
application to practice.

Researchers used two tests to measure cognitive function. These tests were the Mini Mental State
Examination (MMSE) and the Alzheimer s Disease Assessment Scale Cognitive Sub Scale (ADAS

Up and Go test was used to assess basic functional mobility, and the Sit to Stand test was used to
assess lower body strength. To measure Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), the Barthel Index of
Activities of Daily Living and the Instrumental Activities of Daily Living assessment were used. The
Geriatric Depression Scale Short Form was used to assess depression. The Clinician s Interview Based
Impression of Change plus Caregiver Input (CI BIS plus) was used to assess global change in
function. To measure carer burden, the Zarit Burden Interview was used. An explanation of the
measurement tools for the outcome assessments of waist to hip ratio and body mass index (BMI) was
not included. The outcome assessment tools as a group were described as standardized, however the
validity and reliability of the measures was not discussed by the researchers. Inclusion of all

The Most Dangerous Game
Richard Connell s The Most Dangerous Game is a very exciting story of a manhunt. This story made
me think about the morality of hunting: Humans are the cleverest creatures on earth, but does it give
them a license to kill the other animals and even human beings weaker than themselves? I give below
a short summary of the story to set the scene and then I will explore the ethics involved in hunting as a
sport. The Most Dangerous Game presents the story of a hunter, General
Zaroff, who finds hunting human beings as the most dangerous and fascinating sport. He likes hunting
humans because human beings, unlike the other animals, can reason better and so provide a richer
thrill for the hunter. He does not think hunting human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our knowledge of ecology also teaches us that by killing animals we may be tampering with the
delicate ecosystem and inviting our own destruction.
Human beings are probably the most intelligent creatures on earth. That is why they have a great
responsibility of keeping intact the life of the earth. Indiscriminate killing for sport is an uncivilized
and anti intellectual activity, because we should share this world with the other animals and live in
harmony with them.
Harmonious existence is the key to civilization and survival. It is our moral responsibility to tend life
on earth, not destroy it. Weak or strong every creature is beautiful and essential for the health of the
world, and it is our moral obligation to see that the other creatures share this world with us. Live and

A Triumphant Ending For The Hero
All villains are antagonists but not all antagonists are villains, It has been established in classic
literature that the purpose of a villain sis to create a triumphant ending for the hero. In Jules Vern s,
Around the world in Eight Days, the antagonist possesses much more than simply being the bad guy
in pursuance of the protagonist to impede their cliché happy ending. Detective Fix, as tenacious and
stubborn as he is, offers much more than an antagonist who is fated to meet his doom in the end. Fix
exists to drive the plot; diverting the sequence of events to satisfy his interests, rather than existing as
a complement to valor. Without his efforts, the account of journey is predictable, depriving the readers
of suspense and anticipation towards the story s conclusion. His endeavor throughout the narrative
was to arrest the famed robber who he believes is Fogg. Although being a part of journey, he showed
the complexity of his disposition. A reader must overlook all the misdeeds and maliciousness Fix had
performed in order to observe him beyond the image classic literature portrays antagonist, Verne
develops complexity within Detective Fix as he is a flawed man who struggles to recognize his sense
of morality because of false determination and greed. (Thesis) The misdeeds and inadequacy
Detective fix performed throughout the novel come from his captivity from his own pride and vanity.

Expectations of First-Line-Supervisor in Law Enforcement...
Expectations of a First Line Supervisor in a Law Enforcement Agency
By
Daniel Parra
Supervision in the Criminal Justice Field
Professor Chavez
May 15, 2013
Abstract
The first line supervisor in law enforcement is commonly referred to as a Sergeant. These positions
are of great importance to a law enforcement agency. There are many pros and cons to becoming a
first line supervisor. These positions are tasked with the expectation of maintaining a level of balance
within the patrol ranks, as well as remaining fair and impartial among those ranks. There are also
many expectations of subordinates. In order for both parties to meet these expectations requires a
close working relationship.
The first line supervisor in a law ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A supervisor must remain approachable from their subordinates. With this approachability and
accessibility the supervisor will be successful in building a better working relationship. The difficulty
with some supervisors is the ability to draw the line between having a personal relationship with their
subordinates and a professional relationship. With a close working relationship a supervisor should be
able to confront the subordinate and be able to resolve the issue. The resolution may range from
simply counseling the subordinate, all the way up to possible disciplinary action.
Approximately 25 percent of all law enforcement disciplinary action is due to drug use. (More amp;
Miller, 2007) Supervisors must remain vigilant on possible drug use. Many supervisors are unwilling
to discipline their subordinates, which could ultimately lead to their downfall. When disciplinary
action is necessary it is the responsibility of the supervisor to remain fair and impartial. When
initiating disciplinary action the supervisor must put aside any personal feelings toward the
subordinate, and act solely on a professional level. They must act in the best interest of the subordinate
and the department as a whole. It is important that when the disciplinary action is necessary it is done
in a constructive manner. When the disciplinary action is constructive it allows the subordinate to
accept their mistakes, and learn

Arguments For And Against Code Switching
The ongoing debate for and against Code switching is demonstrated by reviewing the papers of
Vershawn Young and Rebecca Wheeler. Mr. Young voices his harsh disapproval of code switching in
his paper, Should Writers Use They Own English? (Young 111) . This is offset by Rebecca Wheeler s
gently persuasive technical paper explaining her implementation of Code switching which she titled,
Code Switch to Teach Standard English (Wheeler 108) . After re reading both papers several times,
trying to move past the emotion, and return to the point of having a US Standard English, I remain
with my personal definition of the purpose of US Standard English as a tool to communicate. Before
we delve any further, let me share my understanding of communications. In the communications
industry (think Telephone), there is a simple rule, in order for successful communication, the sender
speaks their thoughts, which the telephone converts into an electronic signal that travels across a
transmission medium, to the receiver s telephone where the signal is converted back into speech for
the receiver to hear. If this process fails at any point, then communications fails. Applying this to
written communications, if the sender writes in French and the receiver only speaks Japanese, then
communications fails because the receiver could not understand what was written. To overcome this a
translator of some form must be engaged to insure that the sender and receiver utilize the same
language. Being more

Analysis of the Movie Frozen by Dani Colman
Dani Colman talks about many ideas in her article that show how the new movie Frozen does not
show realistic feminist ideals as everyone may think it might. Her article is very opinionated, and
seemingly biased or exaggerated. Instead of embracing how Disney has taken a step in the right
direction with the movie when trying to embrace new societal ways of thinking, she attacks how it
does not affectively show all of values held by feminists; what she fails to overlook, however, is the
idea that the movie was not meant to be a feminist movie, but rather was made to entertain young
children it just included aspects that Disney thought was progressive and compliant to today s society.
Colman does not seem to be validated with her ideas on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She says that her clumsiness factor is not built as something that she, as the protagonist, has to
overcome; she thinks that she made Elsa s coronation just about her since she is vain (Colman, 2014).
She points out scenes in the movie that show Elsa as being unaware, like when she rode into the storm
unprepared, did not think of her limitations, like when she tried climbing the mountain, and provoked
Elsa without thinking of the consequences (Colman, 2014). Her only ambition, according to Colman,
is finding her true love, though she s condescending towards the person that is assumed to fall into that
position, Kristoff, and is belligerent towards the person who it ends up being: her sister, Elsa (Colman,
2014).
In addition to these ideas, she expresses negative ideas about Elsa, Anna s sister. She says that Elsa is
not any better than Anna, and suggests that she may be worse; she says Elsa is self repressing, though
it is not her fault, pathological due to shutting everyone out (even though some people, like Anna, just
want to help), is self blaming, avoidant of issues, frightened, vulnerable, repressed, intelligent
(something positive!), and antisocial (Colman, 2014). She shuts everyone out due to her fears, and
because of that, runs away from her problems instead of confronting them. Most of her actions that
Colman deems as negative are due to her fears, showing how conflicted she is. Colman thinks that
both Elsa and Anna are impulsive,

When a young woman is killed by a 25 foot killer great white shark while skinny dipping near the
New England tourist town of Amity Island, police chief Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) commits
himself to serve and protect his town by closing the beaches. Unfortunately, the mayor of the island
has a different idea. Mayor Larry Vaughn (Murray Hamilton) overrules him, fearing that the loss of
tourist revenue will cripple the town. Ichthyologist Matt Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) and grizzled ship
captain Quint (Robert Shaw) offer to help Brody capture the killer 25 foot beast, and the trio engage in

This is no mystery or surprise. The creature, which has long been the topic of numerous studies and
experiments, is still a source of great mystery. Why in the world does a shark need to grow the size of
a school bus? Who is it trying to impress with that massiveness? And those teeth? They taught us in
elementary school that a shark might use over 20,000 teeth in its lifetime. If one falls out, another
replaces it. Say what you may about the special effects in Jaws, those teeth look real and they will eat
your face off. So, therefore the movie was so successful. Because of the productions ability to create a
mechanical shark that is similar in anatomy and identical to the real predator, the film could create this
higher sense of man vs nature, good vs evil. This horror film will leave you wondering with the
question of what if this happens to me. Spielberg took something that was so real and had happened
before (shark attacks), and produced a movie that not only warned us and opened our eyes to its
reality, but was also able to deliver us with one of the most classic horror films in the history of

Metaphors In Dante s Inferno
Dante Alighieri was one of the most inspiring Italian poets in the middle ages. One of his greatest
writings is about the afterlife, from the depths of Hell in his own made Inferno, into the mountains of
Purgatory and in the ever lasting spirits of Heaven called the Paradiso. But my main focus on this
essay is what in Dante s life inspired him to write like he did, particularly his Inferno. Questions and
history may lead us to believe that was it was his love, war or political view that shaped him as an
artist. There is a gap in his history with some unknowns for the simplest things like what was his birth
date. But some metaphors from his Divine Comedy may answer these questions.
Even today, Dante is inspiring artists with his writings and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Florence at this time being a loathed, despised, derogated community with corruption and discard,
Dante Alighieri lived most of his days working on his writings that will last hundreds of years. Church
versus independence of the city states gave Dante the motivation to get involved of becoming a
member of political governing body. In this time Florence has split into two parties, Guelphs who
support the pope and Ghibellines that support the Roman Emperor with the need of more freedom.
Dante was part of the White Guelphs and fought in war of his cause but with seeing life and death in
the horrific battle of war, this may have lead to vision of his own Hell. Dante was exiled from the city
by Black Guelphs or else he would be burned to the stake in result of his family having to split apart
leaving behind his wife Gemma Donati and his four children. Dante spent 20 years drifting from city
to city thinking about his long lost love Beatrice who was once a childhood sweetheart and also his
writings that would be for nothing without his mentor Brunetto Latino. Eventually Florence granted
amnesty to Florentines in exile but required to pay a large fine, Dante just preferred his drifter days in

Material Processing And Its Effect On The Construction Of...
Introduction
Usually, the original materials are not suitable for some applications. Therefore, to achieve some goals
of material, we need to process the original materials. By the heat treatment, cold works, and chemical
processes, material processing can change the properties of the original materials (Materials
Processing, n.d.). For example, we do different heat treatments to steels to obtain different hardness
types of steels. According to Totten, annealing is the process that we heat the steel to the critical point
and turn off the heat. We keep the steel in the furnace until the steel completely cool down to the room
temperature (Totten, 1997). The purpose is to make the distribution of the components uniform in the
steel. This process can improve the mechanical properties of the steel, such as making steel softer to
machining and protecting steel from deforming. Normalizing refers that we leave the heated steel in
the air after the steel reached the critical point (Totten, 1997). Similar to annealing, the purpose of
normalizing treatment is also making components in the steel uniformly distributed, whereas the
distributional performance is not as good as annealing heat treatment. Normalizing treatment can also
make the steel softer in order to process. Quenching is that we cool down the steel in a short time after
the steel reached the critical point, such as quenching steel in water (Totten, 1997). The reason we do
quenching is that it can increase the hardness and

Examples Of Demonology In Macbeth
Macbeth: Shakespeare s Demonology Literary Research Essay on William Shakespeare s Macbeth
Witches, goblins, ghouls, oh my! The supernatural world has been a mystery for many years and has
never been truly understood or solved. Shakespeare demonstrates his beliefs in the supernatural world
through his characters, their words and their actions. He also demonstrates his beliefs in Demonology,
through those same elements. Demonology is the study of evil spirits, demons and demonic beliefs.
Macbeth is filled to the rim with supernatural elements; creating the play and keeping readers on the
edge of their seats continuously throughout the tragic story. How exactly does the supernatural effect
keep readers interested?

Ghosts and apparitions were key in Macbeth s journey as well. In the Jacobean era (the era
Shakespeare wrote Macbeth and King James IV and I ruled) apparitions were said to have helped
people overcome certain situations or a crises and sometimes offered solutions as well, but they also
haunted and tortured the living; for example, Macbeth in the play. Macbeth is haunted by Banquo s
ghost which guilts him into a major panic attack and almost reveals to his peers of his attempt to kill
Banquo and Fleance (Banquo s son); Fleance manages to escape and survive. Later on in the play
Macbeth is visited by three apparitions, all describing futures for him; some true and some false. Two
out of the three apparitions told the truth and also gave him warnings of what was to come if he were
to go ahead with his plan and attack Macduff. He ignored the warnings and confronted Macduff which

Role Of Fate In Oedipus The King
The theme of Fate (deed of the gods) versus free will (personal choices and actions) is ever present in
Greek drama. It is the concept that the lead character of a drama has no control over his Fate, which is
preconceived and inevitable. On the other hand, it has been argued that the character did have a choice
in the matter, and ultimately, it s their choices that lead to their destiny being fulfilled. In this essay, I
will be exploring the role of the gods in Sophocles Oedipus the King, and whether or not they are to
blame for his tragic downfall.
Oedipus the King begins with the audience gaining the knowledge that Thebes is in a state of disarray.
This, according to the oracle of Delphi, is due to the fact that the previous king, Laius, has not been
avenged, and that the only way Thebes will return to its previous glory is if the king s murderer takes
account for his actions (Sophocles). Oedipus, the noble and intellectual man that he is, makes a
promise to find whoever was responsible for the death of Laius, and make them atone for their sins. ...

And yet he has been led, either by blind chance or cruel gods, to commit the basest of crimes. All of
this suggests...that human beings are playthings of chance or indifferent gods and hence that it is
impossible for human beings to live nobly or to win the favour and protection of the gods
(Ahrensdorf, 2009).
In conclusion, I believe that the fates played a greater role than we are lead to believe, but I also
believe that the decisions made by all the characters played a pivotal role in the outcome of the drama.
The characters were most definitely given a freedom of choice when it came to almost every decision
they made, but the fates definitely put obstacles in their way, which would inevitably cause them to be
swayed to make rash

Analysis Of The Film Sophie Scholl
The film Sophie Scholl reflects the repetition of the concept of the Hero from across the sea . One of
Northrop Frye s lessons on biblical stories, he explores in detail what the hero from across the sea
means. This theory consists of a wasteland that is ruled by the impotent old king, whose land is being
destroyed by a sea monster whose only goal is to demand human sacrifice. In this story, the king s
daughter the princess tied to a rock is chosen as a sacrifice to the sea monster, but luckily a hero from
across the sea comes to her rescue, returning the fertility to the land. In the movie Sophie Scholl, this
idea is shown multiple times, by a variety of characters. The movie Sophie Scholl takes place in
Germany around the time when Hitler and the Nazis were in power. The protagonist, Sophie Scholl
and her brother Hans Scholl are members of a German group, the white rose, that is against Hitler s
view and its ultimate goal is for war to conclude. Looking at the story from a hero from across the sea
point of view, I can deduce that Germany itself is the lifeless wasteland, ravaged by the endless war
that Hitler and the Nazis inflicted on the country, by way of explanation, Hitler, and the Nazis are the
sea monster itself. Germany at this time in history was a place in where Someone who speaks freely...
is imprisoned or put to death (Sophie Scholl, 1:03:06). Which is what happens to them, they place
many leaflets around their university that express negative opinions towards Hitler. Unfortunately,
they get caught, they are interrogated for their crimes and sentenced to death by the old impotent king.
Naturally, Hitler is the most apparent choice when it comes to the old imponent king, but I think it can
be applied to both him and the president. The president doesn t exactly rule the wasteland, like Hitler,
but he has the final say on people s lives, allowing him to have to have an immense sense of authority.
He also is very arrogant and promotes Hitler s ideology to others, as if was the only viewpoint .
There are three broad examples that represent this concept through this film. One example is the when
Hans attempts to help his sister, by taking on the blame for the crime. During Sophie s

Comparing The Handmaid s Tale With The English Patient
Ze Qin Qiu Contemporary Literature Essay 1 Comparison of The Handmaid s Tale with The English
Patient The Handmaid s Tale by Margaret Atwood and The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje can
be considered as two works that reflect the change in writing style common of more modern literature.
As opposed to their older counter parts, these works of contemporary literature seem to focus more on
the connections, especially that of love, that forms between the characters. In The English Patient,
everything from the flashbacks to the sudden change in narrator, serves to outline the connections
between the main characters in this story. Similarly in The Handmaid s tale, the flashbacks and inner
thoughts of the main protagonist, Offred, serves to demonstrate the connections that influenced her. In
both stories, regardless of the time and circumstances, the characters in the book were able to recall
connections that were formed and use them to reminisce about the past. It could be said that the two
books show humanity s ability to form meaningful connections that are able to surpass the limits of
time and space. The English Patient is one of the two such books examined in this paper that show s
humanity s ability to form connections that stay with us without regards to time and space. Set in a
villa in Italy during WWII, The English Patient focuses on the experiences of a group of people in the
midst of this war. One such set of character is the nurse Hana and her

Causes Of Tension In Colonial America
Colonial America in the seventeenth century become very independent from England, this caused
tensions politically, socially, religiously and economically. The tensions did not automatically take
place; however, things that weren t considered issues previously became amplified problems as
England tried to tighten their control over the colonies. Having the tensions of social and economic
growth it lead to the Salem Witch trials that occurred in Massachusetts. There was a great amount of
independent growth throughout colonial America, tensions definitely rose as colonial America refused
to allow England to have full control. A major part of the independent growth was the legal system
that America had formed. While they adopted many of the essential elements of the English legal
system, they had major differences in the American legal system (Brinkley, 2012). For example,
punishment was different from England s, instead of prison or the gallows, the Americans took a
different route. The forms of punishment in colonial America was whipping posts, branding iron,
stocks, and the ducking stool (Brinkley, 2012). The colonists thought of law as reflection the divine
will or as a result of natural order, not as an expression of power (Brinkley, 2012). Another growth of
independence was politics in America. The Americans created groups of self government which was
very local and not dependent on the English (Brinkley, 2012). This was not much of an issue for a

Reflective Essay On Art
The day was December 30th it was a chilly day when a young artist named Betty Edwards walked into
her first class on art. I was walking alone a week prior after meeting up with some of my students that
I tutor when I got a call from my old art professor. I took me back to when I started learning the
wonder and culture behind art. After taking his course for half a year I gave up on art my levels of
motivation dropped and I felt like I just couldn t do it. During our talk he recommended to a small
coffee shop that offered art lessons for all levels of artist. Today December 30th the day before New
Year s Eve was my first course at the coffee shop almost in the smack center of nowhere of New York.
Every time the door would open you could hear the cars simultaneously rush by even if we were in an
alleyway. In all their were a total of 20 students who registered for the art lessons only 19 showed up.
Some of them beginners some of them looked like their art was meant for a gallery. We all brought
one thing to represent us and our art I brought an unbelievably small cat drawing that looked
horrendous compared to the other artists. The instructor walked in and handed out construction paper
and a pencil. Little did I know this would relate to our lesson. The 20th student walked in late with no

Sexual Assault On College Campuses Essay
Sexual Assault on College Campuses
Many college students, both men and women, experience some form of sexual assault while living on
the campus due to the lack of safety taught and provided to the students. Therefore, colleges
nationwide should provide the necessities that help students reduce their chances of being a victim of
sexual assault or aid them with assistance if assaulted. Sexual assault is a commonly ignored, but
frequent issue on many college campuses. The victims can suffer when the physical and verbal threats
are made and, often exacerbated using drugs and alcohol. However, sexual assault does not always
have to come in such a personal form. Acts such as stalking the individual while they are in a private

The different theories of the causes appear to be controversial among the society. For example, some
can be of prejudicial, stereotypical, or false beliefs about sexual violence (Burt 227). Common quotes
such as she was asking for it by wearing that short skirt or boys will be boys tend to make the situation
lessen in value. Among the variety of reasons that lead to an assault is the date rape drug . The Date
Rape drug is a very popular drug on college campuses that can put the victim in a vulnerable state. It
is used as an easy way to manipulate the victims due to the excessive amount of experimenting with
alcohol that may occur. To help lessen these chances, young adults should be educated about the risk
that can come with participating in certain activities. College campuses should also act to help prevent
assaults and assist those victims. Colleges should provide and staff centers and resources that students
may report to when they are in a situation like this. One resource that colleges may overlook is a rape
whistle. While counterarguments may claim that students could take advantage and not be mature
while having one in their possession, it is an effective way to help a student while in a bad situation.
Only 20% of female student victims, age 18 24, report to law enforcement (DOJ). Most students do
not feel comfortable when such a traumatic event happens to them because they fear that no one will

Symbols And Symbols In Ancient India
SYMBOLISM OF TREE, LOTUS, SERPENT WATER BODIES IN EARLY INDIAN
ARCHITECTURE Symbolism is the use of symbols or signs to represent symbolic meanings, ideas or

Italian Immigrants To Italy
In addition to Italians who came for job opportunities, there were also previously affiliated gang
members from Europe like Italy, France and sometimes Ireland. The majority of these affiliated
immigrants were Italian Mafia members who flew Italy after the Facist regime led by Benito
Mussolini started an anti Mafia campaign (Crime 1920 1940). Some previously formed gangs were
able to reassemble in the United States and especially in New York. However, their power and gang
activities were very limited as they were under constant surveillance and pressure of the police forces.
Therefore, their influence was merely local and their profit very minimal (Crime 1920 1940). By the

The Health Insurance Portability and Accounting Act (HIPAA) is geared towards the protection of
anyone with Protected Health Information (PHI). It was passed in 1996 by congress placing new rules
to protect PHI under the enforcement of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Under
HIPAA anyone who handles health care information such as, clearinghouses, health care plans, and
health care providers who transmits certain types of healthcare information electronically is
considered a covered entity subject to regulation under HIPAA. HIPAA sets up two major rules

under the Privacy Rule. Covered entities are required to keep records detailing the disclosures of a
person s PHI. Although covered entities do not need to detail every disclosure, but rather specific
types as detailed in the Privacy Rule. Also, any notices given to people about their PHI must be

2Abstract There is a direct correlation between corporate finance performance and women in
leadership roles. The number of female college graduates and overall percentage of females in the

One of the reasons that
5qualified women are not in that pool, is because there are not visible to companies. Therefore
companies and also women need to take actions like: 1. Develop and introduce mentoring programs
(pairing senior women with company chairmen as mentors) 2. Build up systematically contacts
(networking inside and outside the company) 3. Women have to inform company bosses of the
progress in their developments 4. Chief executives have to promote women to their executive
committees Regulatory back up, like quotas, are required, because some men over 60 think that
suitable females don t exist because they have never had women as their peers, and they think women
can t take the pressure involved in serving on a board. Furthermore, these quotas forces companies to
develop strategies and programs to retain, attract and develop high qualified women, who can enter
the boardroom. But there is also a down side of quotas. Companies have to avoid pushing too low
qualified women into boardrooms only to meet these quotas. This will harm the qualified women
more than the quotas will help. Work life Balance With women now making up almost half of the
labor force in the Unit States and Europe, they are increasingly juggling work with care giving
responsibilities at home. The solution for this dilemma is work flexibility and scheduling. There are
several solutions and possibilities to increase the work life balance: 1. Employees working at home.

The Impact Of Globalization On The Urban Environment And...
In 1990s America, obtaining freedom from governmental control became a social preoccupation.
Starting with liberalism s demand for increased individual freedom, what began as a small movement
eventually transformed into a culture wide fight for social justice and economic growth to create a free
market where, ideally, no government would be needed. Activists term this modern movement neo
liberalism, or global market liberalism (capitalism), which calls for free trade policies. While adopting
such a system for American cities has been advocated by many people for its economic benefits, it
also necessarily creates new relations between the city government and the residents who live there,
which in turn affects the urban environment and social relations within the city. The question is a
persistent one in our place and time: to globalize, or not to globalize?
Globalization requires highly specialized services, telecommunications, infrastructure, and industrial
services. Economic globalization has mostly been represented in terms of the duality between national
and global, where the global gains power and advantages at the expense of the national. For example,
Saskia Sassen, author of Whose City Is It?, states many disadvantages of global cities for women,
immigrants, and people of color, whose political sense of self and identities are not necessarily
embedded in the nation (206).
In developing cities there are large concentrations of diversity; immigration is a major

What does it feel like to move down a throng, giving way to you? Power. In this case, the power of

casting call for 100 actors and actresses for his new film, turned out to be more than they could have
imagined, with about 5000 applicants, young and old, turning up for the love of Cinema. They
inspired Makhmalbaf to turn the audition into a documentary film, dedicating Salaam Cinema to 100
years of Cinema. This review will look at the methods used in capturing the real in Salaam Cinema by
examining the mode of documentary, semiotic and woman.
MODE OF DOCUMENTARY
One aspect very clear in Salaam Cinema is how the filmmaking process is not hidden. We see the
cameras, lightings and how people are working with them. We also see the director, Makhmalbaf on
screen, instructing his staff to set up the equipment, interviewing and provoking people who came for
the audition, whom I would refer to as subjects in this review. Even though showing the filmmaking
process might give viewers a sense of the reality of what happens behind the camera, it also tells us
that the whole process was constructed. Similarly, in the opening scene, we were in the viewpoint of
being driven through a throng but when the scene cuts away to show the cameraman seated on a car,

One main disadvantage is if entire world become a huge collaboration where no one is paid but a

good idea but on the other side we need to balance where the world still works. He chose very good
scenario which explained the need of collaboration to the modern world. He explained about how

how they do work with these tasks.

Later Eiseley tells of a mouse that made a home in one of the flower pots in his living room. This was
no ordinary house mouse, this was a field mouse; the one that he had seen in the field of the site of the
new suburban store. It ran away from the field where the bulldozers were and headed towards Eiseley
s apartment building. The mouse made a burrow in the flower pot and was quick to hide and not be

did not expect to see the mouse again. To his surprise the burrow reopened but there was no sign of
the field mouse. Not even the temptation of food would draw the mouse out. He thought it would end

Operation Management is the study of how people organize themselves for productive enterprise .In

How has Superheroes change through time

peoples imagination can only think of. A perfect human being who saves the world .The first time
superhero appeared on T.V was The Adventures of Captain Marvel in 1941. Superheroes was on the

Often times there are many ads circulating at the same place. When I surf the Internet usually I am
doing it for one reason, to gather information. The last thing I am going to want is some company
sticking their add right in my face. I believe if consumers want to buy these products, they would visit
websites of companies who sold them.
A third disadvantage to e marketing is intrusive e mail. E mail is a good way to communicate long
distances for free. Like postal mail, people can receive junk mail electronically. This has always
burned me. With postal junk mail simply throwing out what is unwanted solves the problem. E mail is
different. Junk mail will continue to compile on a computer until it is deleted out. This takes up
valuable space on the hard drive and also valuable time of the recipient.
As long as there are disadvantages there must always be at least one advantage to whatever is under

to consumers. The Internet is running twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. To the consumer
the Internet is a great place to shop around. There are many places to get the same products; and being

should denounce Columbus Day from the recognition of a federal holiday because of the credible

In this chapter she goes over what immigration enforcement used to be like back in 1950s. She
interviews a former Bracero (Legal worker) who crossed the border in 1957, Paraphrasing from their
conversation on page 110 from lines 9 39, he states that the border was guarded by a barbed wire
fence, and watched over by the la Migra (border patrol). He goes on to explain that the barriers were
enforced by immigration rather than the police, and he even goes on and states that the police wouldn t
even bother them. He then mentions that when they were caught by the BP (border patrol) they were
simply gathered to and held in a facility until a threshold was met, where they would then simply be
sent back. He then dives into detail when regarding immigrants partaking in criminal activities rather
than just crossing over. He states that It was migracion who caught us and sent us back, if you
committed an act, the police put you in jail. You just post bail and they d let you go. But if you didn t
do anything, the police wouldn t bother you (110). It seems that the enforcement of immigrants back
in the 50s was much more relaxed when compared to what it seems to be today. With the media
(obviously stretched and dramatized) portraying our borders as some sacred fighting ground guarded
by active snipers and trigger happy gunmen it seems that there was a huge difference in how the
border was enforced. Throughout the interview that Patrisia has with the ex bracero gives off the

Why The US Should Cut Immigration
Although President Trump s comments offer an anti immigrant view based on fear of a Cold War
anomaly and lack of better quality immigrant selection, history, and economic statistics support the
idea that legal immigration has, and continues to be, vital to the development and prosperity of the
United States.
Immigration was the foundation of the United States. The founding fathers left the British Empire to
escape religious persecution in search of a new start in life. Today this American dream is what
immigrants long for. Without immigration, the United States would most likely have seen minimal
growth throughout history. Statistics prove that the economy and diversity of the United States
significantly increased in relation to the amount of immigration. Despite the apparent importance of
immigration to the United States, some argue that immigrants steal jobs and increase crime. In reality,
immigrants increase jobs and further increase the stability of the United States.
Supporters of cutting legal immigration fear the influx of undesirable immigrants as well as the
possibility of terrorists entering the United States through immigration programs. President Trump and
his administration emphasize the idea that Americans and their jobs need to be protected from all
newcomers (Capó Web) due to their belief that this position is true. One resource supporting
restrictions on immigration is Capó Jr. s The White House Used This Moment as Proof the U.S.

As a result, the main destinations of the Mexican community are Montreal, Toronto, Quebec, Ottawa
and Vancouver.
Even though the cities mentioned before are the main destinations, the next list shows the best options

1. Ottawa (Ontario)
2. Halifax (Nova Scotia)
3. Québec city (Québec)

(Basok, 2002), as a newcomer in Canada, Mexicans must adapt to all the new concepts of culture,
language and climate, housing, transportation and other facets that may be difficult at first. Even, try
to make new friends, is not so simple. However, most Canadian cities have an organized system of aid
and assistance for immigrants, who provide all the necessary advices. These services are provided
during the first two years of stay, adjusting the approximate time for any new entrant. Some people

My Project Topic Is Mountaintop Removal
Carrie Southern
11/21/15
Professor Rio
Pathfinder Project My project topic is mountaintop removal. I hope to find the average amount of
removal that has been done recently and to see if the people that are doing the work is concerned with
what is happening. I hope to learn if many other people are realizing that this operation is occurring. I
choose this topic because I thought it was interesting that the world is doing this to the earth and it is
hurting it. I also choose this topic because I figured many people would have concerns on the subject
and others would not. Before the video I watched in class I did not know that this was happening
especially at mass amounts. Finally, I am interested to see if many religious people are involved ...

It gives statistics on what states have had this happen and how many acres to how many mountains.
The article leads to telling people why this is a matter for faith and what we can do to help stop it. It
states that the removal is a choice and is not a need.
Blowing Up Mountains: Destroying the Environment for Coal. YouTube. YouTube, 3 July 2012. Web.
12 Nov. 2015.
The video was about the coal mining in West Virginia and how it destroys the earth. The maker of the
video traveled to the state to observe what was really going on there. They found out instead of just
digging for the coal and getting it out they decided to remove the tops and blow the land up. They
realized this hurt the whole environment around them because of the mass amount that was being
taken out at one time.
Orion Magazine | Moving Mountains. Orion Magazine. Erik Reece. Web. 12 Nov. 2015.
This goes along my topic because it talks about the problems that occur with the removal of land. The
magazine talks about how the land has not been this badly destroyed since a million years ago when
glaciers pushed against the ridgelines. One section of this magazine was very interesting, it involved a
coal storage silo that was placed about 200 feet behind a low grade school. After a while of the storage
unit being placed there kids in that school started becoming really sick and getting sent home. Nobody
knew what was happening until

Evolution of the Monroe Doctrine Essay
...American continents...are henceforth not to be considered as subjects for future colonization by any
European powers...In the wars of the European powers, in matters relating to themselves, we have
never taken any part, nor does it comport with our policy to do so...It is only when our rights are
invaded, or seriously menaced, that we resent injuries, or make preparation for our defense... We owe
it, therefore, to candor, and to the amicable relations existing between the United States and those [the
Americas] powers, to declare, that we should consider any attempt on their [European powers] part to
extend their system to any portion of this hemisphere, as dangerous to our peace and safety. With the
existing colonies or dependencies of any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this speech, President Monroe sought to establish specific guidelines for U.S. involvement in
international affairs (McCormick, pg. 10). It was believed that European powers would continue to
seek colonization in the Western Hemisphere and the infant United States feared the proximity of war
prone and powerful European neighbors. The strong admonitions of President George Washington
that, The great rule of conduct for us in regard to foreign nations is ... to have with them as little
political connection as possible were not so distant as to be forgotten (McCormick, page 10).
Isolationism was the official foreign policy of the nation and it was from this frame of mind that
President Monroe gave a customary speech that became known as the Monroe Doctrine and
unknowingly shaped American foreign policy for the next 200 years. There are two prominent lines in
the Monroe Doctrine that overshadow the rest of the document: First, that American continents were,
henceforth not to be considered as subjects for future colonization by any European power and second
that the United States, could not view any interposition...by any European powers in any other light
than as the manifestation of an unfriendly disposition toward the United States (McCormick, pg. 11).
While these are the hallmark pillars of the Monroe Doctrine, it is important to also understand the
historical context and history surrounding President Monroe s decision to make such a strong

  • 2. The Gambino Crime Family Paul Castellano, or Big Paul was an eight grade dropout and boss of the richest, most dangerous, and most powerful crime syndicate in the United States. Born June 26, 1915 in Brooklyn, Big Paul began his life in the mob by running numbers. When he was named successor to the great Carlo Gambino, trouble arose. Many members felt that Aniello Dellacroce, although in prison, deserved the role but instead Gambino had promoted Paul. Some saw this as nepotism which was generally frowned upon on by La Cosa Nostra. To settle tensions Castellano gifted Neil Dellacroce some of the family s most lucrative operations throughout Manhattan and Queens, but this did not completely satisfy the slighted underboss. Paul, like Gambino, was an unusual type of Mafia boss. Unfortunately, while Don Carlo was revolutionary, Big Paul was unsatisfactory. He was embarrassed that he was categorized as a gangster and preferred to be regarded as a diplomat or businessman. Big Paul was said to look more like a businessman or CEO than a mobster. Paul Castellano was flashy too; he liked elegant clothing, fine dining, and being driven around by chauffeur. He even detested violence which is not a good quality for a mob boss to obtain. The Pope as he was referred to, was standoffish. His predecessor had gone to the markets in Little Italy, held court in public places, lived in the city, and interacted with his soldiers and capos. Big Paul on the other hand, generally held court at his private estate, did ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I give below a short summary of the story to set the scene and then I will explore the ethics involved in hunting as a sport. A Triumphant Ending For The Hero All villains are antagonists but not all antagonists are villains, It has been established in classic literature that the purpose of a villain sis to create a triumphant ending for the hero. In Jules Vern s, Around the world in Eight Days, the antagonist possesses much more than simply being the bad guy in pursuance of the protagonist to impede their cliché happy ending. Detective Fix, as tenacious and stubborn as he is, offers much more than an antagonist who is fated to meet his doom in the end. Fix exists to drive the plot; diverting the sequence of events to satisfy his interests, rather than existing as a complement to valor. Without his efforts, the account of journey is predictable, depriving the readers of suspense and anticipation towards the story s conclusion. His endeavor throughout the narrative was to arrest the famed robber who he believes is Fogg. Although being a part of journey, he showed the complexity of his disposition. With this approachability and accessibility the supervisor will be successful in building a better working relationship. The difficulty with some supervisors is the ability to draw the line between having a personal relationship with their subordinates and a professional relationship. With a close working relationship a supervisor should be able to confront the subordinate and be able to resolve the issue. The resolution may range from simply counseling the subordinate, all the way up to possible disciplinary action. Approximately 25 percent of all law enforcement disciplinary action is due to drug use. (More amp; Miller, 2007) Supervisors must remain vigilant on possible drug use. Before we delve any further, let me share my understanding of communications. In the communications industry (think Telephone), there is a simple rule, in order for successful communication, the sender speaks their thoughts, which the telephone converts into an electronic signal that travels across a transmission medium, to the receiver s telephone where the signal is converted back into speech for the receiver to hear. If this process fails at any point, then communications fails. Applying this to written communications, if the sender writes in French and the receiver only speaks Japanese, then communications fails because the receiver could not understand what was written. To overcome this a translator of some form must be engaged to insure that the sender and receiver utilize the same language. Being more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Her only ambition, according to Colman, is finding her true love, though she s condescending towards the person that is assumed to fall into that position, Kristoff, and is belligerent towards the person who it ends up being: her sister, Elsa (Colman, 2014). In addition to these ideas, she expresses negative ideas about Elsa, Anna s sister. She says that Elsa is not any better than Anna, and suggests that she may be worse; she says Elsa is self repressing, though it is not her fault, pathological due to shutting everyone out (even though some people, like Anna, just want to help), is self blaming, avoidant of issues, frightened, vulnerable, repressed, intelligent (something positive!), and antisocial (Colman, 2014). One of his greatest writings is about the afterlife, from the depths of Hell in his own made Inferno, into the mountains of Purgatory and in the ever lasting spirits of Heaven called the Paradiso. But my main focus on this essay is what in Dante s life inspired him to write like he did, particularly his Inferno. • 13. Material Processing And Its Effect On The Construction Of... Introduction Usually, the original materials are not suitable for some applications. Therefore, to achieve some goals of material, we need to process the original materials. By the heat treatment, cold works, and chemical processes, material processing can change the properties of the original materials (Materials Processing, n.d.). For example, we do different heat treatments to steels to obtain different hardness types of steels. According to Totten, annealing is the process that we heat the steel to the critical point and turn off the heat. We keep the steel in the furnace until the steel completely cool down to the room temperature (Totten, 1997). The purpose is to make the distribution of the components uniform in the steel. This process can improve the mechanical properties of the steel, such as making steel softer to machining and protecting steel from deforming. Normalizing refers that we leave the heated steel in the air after the steel reached the critical point (Totten, 1997). Similar to annealing, the purpose of normalizing treatment is also making components in the steel uniformly distributed, whereas the distributional performance is not as good as annealing heat treatment. Normalizing treatment can also make the steel softer in order to process. Quenching is that we cool down the steel in a short time after the steel reached the critical point, such as quenching steel in water (Totten, 1997). The reason we do quenching is that it can increase the hardness and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Role Of Fate In Oedipus The King The theme of Fate (deed of the gods) versus free will (personal choices and actions) is ever present in Greek drama. It is the concept that the lead character of a drama has no control over his Fate, which is preconceived and inevitable. On the other hand, it has been argued that the character did have a choice in the matter, and ultimately, it s their choices that lead to their destiny being fulfilled. In this essay, I will be exploring the role of the gods in Sophocles Oedipus the King, and whether or not they are to blame for his tragic downfall. Oedipus the King begins with the audience gaining the knowledge that Thebes is in a state of disarray. This, according to the oracle of Delphi, is due to the fact that the previous king, Laius, has not been avenged, and that the only way Thebes will return to its previous glory is if the king s murderer takes account for his actions (Sophocles). Oedipus, the noble and intellectual man that he is, makes a promise to find whoever was responsible for the death of Laius, and make them atone for their sins. ... In conclusion, I believe that the fates played a greater role than we are lead to believe, but I also believe that the decisions made by all the characters played a pivotal role in the outcome of the drama. The characters were most definitely given a freedom of choice when it came to almost every decision they made, but the fates definitely put obstacles in their way, which would inevitably cause them to be swayed to make rash ... • 16. Analysis Of The Film Sophie Scholl The film Sophie Scholl reflects the repetition of the concept of the Hero from across the sea . One of Northrop Frye s lessons on biblical stories, he explores in detail what the hero from across the sea means. This theory consists of a wasteland that is ruled by the impotent old king, whose land is being destroyed by a sea monster whose only goal is to demand human sacrifice. In this story, the king s daughter the princess tied to a rock is chosen as a sacrifice to the sea monster, but luckily a hero from across the sea comes to her rescue, returning the fertility to the land. In the movie Sophie Scholl, this idea is shown multiple times, by a variety of characters. The movie Sophie Scholl takes place in Germany around the time when Hitler and the Nazis were in power. The protagonist, Sophie Scholl and her brother Hans Scholl are members of a German group, the white rose, that is against Hitler s view and its ultimate goal is for war to conclude. Looking at the story from a hero from across the sea point of view, I can deduce that Germany itself is the lifeless wasteland, ravaged by the endless war that Hitler and the Nazis inflicted on the country, by way of explanation, Hitler, and the Nazis are the sea monster itself. Germany at this time in history was a place in where Someone who speaks freely... is imprisoned or put to death (Sophie Scholl, 1:03:06). Which is what happens to them, they place many leaflets around their university that express negative opinions towards Hitler. Unfortunately, they get caught, they are interrogated for their crimes and sentenced to death by the old impotent king. Naturally, Hitler is the most apparent choice when it comes to the old imponent king, but I think it can be applied to both him and the president. The president doesn t exactly rule the wasteland, like Hitler, but he has the final say on people s lives, allowing him to have to have an immense sense of authority. He also is very arrogant and promotes Hitler s ideology to others, as if was the only viewpoint . There are three broad examples that represent this concept through this film. One example is the when Hans attempts to help his sister, by taking on the blame for the crime. During Sophie s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Comparing The Handmaid s Tale With The English Patient Ze Qin Qiu Contemporary Literature Essay 1 Comparison of The Handmaid s Tale with The English Patient The Handmaid s Tale by Margaret Atwood and The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje can be considered as two works that reflect the change in writing style common of more modern literature. As opposed to their older counter parts, these works of contemporary literature seem to focus more on the connections, especially that of love, that forms between the characters. In The English Patient, everything from the flashbacks to the sudden change in narrator, serves to outline the connections between the main characters in this story. Similarly in The Handmaid s tale, the flashbacks and inner thoughts of the main protagonist, Offred, serves to demonstrate the connections that influenced her. In both stories, regardless of the time and circumstances, the characters in the book were able to recall connections that were formed and use them to reminisce about the past. It could be said that the two books show humanity s ability to form meaningful connections that are able to surpass the limits of time and space. The English Patient is one of the two such books examined in this paper that show s humanity s ability to form connections that stay with us without regards to time and space. Having the tensions of social and economic growth it lead to the Salem Witch trials that occurred in Massachusetts. There was a great amount of independent growth throughout colonial America, tensions definitely rose as colonial America refused to allow England to have full control. A major part of the independent growth was the legal system that America had formed. For example, punishment was different from England s, instead of prison or the gallows, the Americans took a different route. The forms of punishment in colonial America was whipping posts, branding iron, stocks, and the ducking stool (Brinkley, 2012). The colonists thought of law as reflection the divine will or as a result of natural order, not as an expression of power (Brinkley, 2012). Another growth of independence was politics in America. Among the variety of reasons that lead to an assault is the date rape drug . The Date Rape drug is a very popular drug on college campuses that can put the victim in a vulnerable state. It is used as an easy way to manipulate the victims due to the excessive amount of experimenting with alcohol that may occur. Women have to inform company bosses of the progress in their developments 4. Chief executives have to promote women to their executive committees Regulatory back up, like quotas, are required, because some men over 60 think that suitable females don t exist because they have never had women as their peers, and they think women can t take the pressure involved in serving on a board. Starting with liberalism s demand for increased individual freedom, what began as a small movement eventually transformed into a culture wide fight for social justice and economic growth to create a free market where, ideally, no government would be needed. Activists term this modern movement neo liberalism, or global market liberalism (capitalism), which calls for free trade policies. While adopting such a system for American cities has been advocated by many people for its economic benefits, it also necessarily creates new relations between the city government and the residents who live there, which in turn affects the urban environment and social relations within the city. The question is a persistent one in our place and time: to globalize, or not to globalize? Globalization requires highly specialized services, telecommunications, infrastructure, and industrial services. Economic globalization has mostly been represented in terms of the duality between national and global, where the global gains power and advantages at the expense of the national. Why The US Should Cut Immigration Although President Trump s comments offer an anti immigrant view based on fear of a Cold War anomaly and lack of better quality immigrant selection, history, and economic statistics support the idea that legal immigration has, and continues to be, vital to the development and prosperity of the United States. Immigration was the foundation of the United States. The founding fathers left the British Empire to escape religious persecution in search of a new start in life. Today this American dream is what immigrants long for. Without immigration, the United States would most likely have seen minimal growth throughout history.
