Third Culture Kids
To all my fellow third culture kids
You know when you discover a new word and all of a sudden you notice everyone using it in their
vocabulary? Paradigm shift was something I learnt the first time when my anthropology professor
used it, and then three days later I heard my chemistry teacher use it to explain the development in
chemistry; specifically, about how famous German chemists would build off of each other s ideas and
cause paradigm shifts in the world of science.
That isn t the term I care much about though. Third Culture Kid, was the term that ended up capturing
exactly how I felt. The colour of my skin didn t seem to reflect the values I believed in. They weren t
in line with the values my parents held, and it always confused me ... Show more content on

The Historical Personality Of Merdeka Square
The historic environment is one of our most precious assets. It contributes to our economy, to our
cultural identity and to our sense of place. Merdeka Square is an important historical building in
Malaysia. It is also known as Independent Square and Dataran Merdeka in Malay. Merdeka Square is
located at the heart of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. To be specific, it is situated right in front of Sultan
Abdul Samad building. Before it was known as Merdeka Square, it was formerly known as Padang or
the Selangor Club Padang . It was used by the cricket green of the Selangor Club or also known as the
Royal Selangor Club now. The huge opened square was designed by AC Norman. Merdeka Square is

have maintained the historical site well. This is to remind the younger generation on what had been
going on in the past. It is for them to realize the remarkable things that our leaders and our ancestors
fought for us. Underneath the square is a complex called Plaza Putra. It is an underground complex

Isoniazid Essay
ISONIAZID Isoniazid was identified by pursuing derivatives of nicotinamide. Optimization of
nicotinamide produces two distinct drugs with very different charactetistics, rifampin and
pyrazinamide. There are two independent tracks of SARs for this drug series, one governing the
activation of the prodrug and another governing the interaction of the active species with InhA. Many
groups at the 4 position can be activated inside M.tubeculosis, and are possible prodrug structures.
After activation, the structural requirments for InhA binding appear to be very stringent. Only the
isonicotinoyl core structure is substantially active among many aryl and heteroaryl groups explored.
The isonicotinoyl group could be substituted with lower alkyl groups while ... Show more content on

[47] Chemical modifications of the natural products have produced several clinically important
semisynthetic rifamycins with improved pharmacological profiles. SARs are highlighted in the figure
below. Pyrazinamide is one of the analog of nicotinamides and shares the same root with isoniazid. It
can be only activated under acidic condition. There are two ways of the SAR tracks, which are the
activation of the pyrazinamidase (PZase) and also the target interaction of the resulting acid. [46] In
the study of Structure activity relationship, the R1 groups contribute to two important functions: i. The
activated species of pyrazinamide, pyrazinoic acid is usually in its anionic form at physiological pH.
Thus, it is not permeable or bioavailable. With R1 group, it can masks the acid group and makes the
drug permeable to cell membranes. [46] ii. The killing effect of pyrazinoic acid is unlikely a selective
process. The presence of R1 group will cause the selective removal of R1 group by M.tuberculosis
and other bacteria. Hence, this will lead to desired selectivity of the drug.

How Did Religion Influence Ancient Greek Society
Religion was a very important factor in Ancient Greek society. The city states had the same religion.
Zeus is the God of Gods according to their belief system. The ancient Greeks have a polytheistic
religion with twelve main Gods. In Greek Mythology, people believe that the gods are a part of every
aspect of life and they influence the events in life. Olympia was a shrine to Zeus. Greek religion was
present in almost all aspects of the Olympics, the religion was accepted by the majority of Greek
society, they made sacrifices and believed that the gods influenced the victors, the victors were
rewarded with sacred items. All of the city states believed in Greek mythology and it was mostly
accepted by Greeks. There was no one book of sacred scripture. There were no binding social classes
from religion because they believed that the Gods and Goddess would give gifts to those who they
saw fit. The religion was very much influenced by nature. They worshiped in sanctuaries. Often times
they made scarifies to the gods at the sanctuaries. The belief was that because they Gods were near

Despite the harsh conditions people still came to watch the games. Women were not allowed if they
were married and if they were caught they would be punished. Women had their own games called
Heraia, in honor of the Goddess Hera, Zeus s wife. They had running races; no sports were played
unless the women were from Sparta (The Olympic Games). The women also wanted to honor a god
which further displays the desire within the ancient Greeks to please the gods, also with so many
people going to the Olympics hoping to show Zeus that they wish to please him exemplifies how
religion was very important in ancient Greek

Aspects Of Inadequacies Throughout World War II Essay
Aspects of Inadequacies throughout World War II
The state of America s military forces at the outset of World War II can be summed up in one word:
unprepared. Certainly that is the case witnessed on many levels at the attack at Pearl Harbor. Sailors
rested on Sunday morning, unprepared for the sneak attack; commanders were off ship, enjoying golf
or a leisurely breakfast, completely caught off guard when the bombs fell; and the fleet itself was
unprepared, with most of its ships at anchor in the harbor, making relatively easy targets for Japanese
bombers. Descriptions of being caught unaware dominate personal narratives of that day and the days
that followed, both from those who experienced the events, and from political and military leaders
across the ocean back in the states.
Once the realization of just how unprepared the United States was for war sank in, both within
American leadership and citizenry, efforts turned to preparation. The U.S. government mobilized on
an institutional level unprecedented in American history. The U.S. government organized industry and
manufacturing, agriculture and food production, and its people into the war effort. And of course there
was the buildup of the military forces, with increased budgets, increased enlistment, and expedited
training for new troops.
The buildup of the American war machine took time, however, and in the interim, shortages during the
early months of the war ran rampant. Terms such as unprepared and

Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson And Edgar Lee Masters
Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson, and Edgar Lee Masters were three literacy scholars, who without a
doubt evolved American literature. They were each able to break the ancient stigmas, and created
supplementary freedom when it came to what a piece of literature can offer. They were known to
speak upon various topics that were recognized as inappropriate within the society, but that didn t stop
them from stating their beliefs. Common similarities that these literacy masters shared amongst each
other were constant themes of death, afterlife and religion. Although these three themes made a
regular occurrence in their pieces of literature, each writer had different views towards the various
themes which were displayed throughout their texts, and pieces of poetries. Walt Whitman s thoughts
towards the topic of religion, and the afterlife was displayed throughout one of Whitman s most
prodigious works, Song of Myself. He intertwines his most deepest, and intimate beliefs on self
spirituality, and death. In section 48 of Song of Myself he mentions that, I have said that the soul is not
more than the body, / And I have said that the body is not more than the soul, / And nothing, not God,
is greater to one than one s self is... (Whitman, Walt) In section 49, Whitman continues to add, And as
to you Life I reckon you are the leavings of many deaths, / (No doubt I have died myself ten thousand
times before.) (Whitman, Walt). It seems as though Whitman is implying to readers that

Persuasive Essay On Guns In Schools
Since 2013, there have been 306 school shootings in America. That is an average of one shooting per
week. The mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, located in Parkland, FL was
committed by nineteen year old, Nikolas Cruz. He was armed with an AR 15 and open fired in the
school, killing seventeen people and wounding several others. This is the deadliest school shooting
since the 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. It s extremely
unfortunate to know that children are also victims of America s gun violence crisis, even while
attending school. It is even more unfortunate and frustrating to know that the National Rifle
Association (NRA) use school shootings like Parkland to encourage policies that allow guns in
schools. According to Everytownresearch, there is no evidence to validate the increased safety of
arming teachers in schools. As a future early childhood educator, I am against bringing guns into my
school and classroom. I hope this is not the change we take as a nation, because I believe students and
faculty members deserve more respect than this. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

to the Harvard Injury Control Research Center, areas with more guns also result in more gun deaths.
In an active shooter emergency, professional police officers hit their intended targets less than twenty
percent of the time. Armed teachers will certainly have an even lower chance of hitting the active
shooter in an emergency. The people that are adamant about guns in schools need to understand that
the only arming a school needs is to be armed with more officers, social workers, counselors, and

yearly income of $30,000 to $55,000. According to JD Power, buyer demand for the 2007 Toyota
Camry is medium with 26% of buyers over the age of 56 and 55% of the buyers is male. These are
just the buyer demographics for this year, make, and model. The Toyota Camry newer models have
increased female buyer demographics especially with the sporty Camry Solara. The purchase of used
Toyota Camry s is greater in the female demographic than that of the male. Toyota s primary target
market however is the 16 21 year old market as the first sale is the most crucial. According to Art
Spinella, vice president of CNW, states that the chances of that person buying your brand again is
almost seven times as great as it is getting someone else to come in and buy your brand (Grimm,
2011). This is why Toyota among many other automakers are targeting the younger individuals also
known as Gen Y as they make up for over 500,000 in new car purchases yearly and are able to
purchase cars earlier in their lives.

Reflection Paper On Golf Carts
As a teenager, hearing our parents tell us no to doing something enjoyable due to it being unsafe is a
huge heartbreaker . We seem to think we are invincible and that our parents know absolutely nothing.
January 1st of 2015, I learned that maybe, just maybe, our parents are actually looking out for us. We
should probably listen to them when they tell us to not ride a golf cart at 1 A.M. on a freezing cold
winter night. My day started off just as it usually does, I wake up and go straight to the kitchen for my
morning cup of hot chocolate. I knew that this day was going to be fun, it was New Year s eve. My
grandparents were having a family party that night. I have a very close relationship with all of my
family so seeing everyone together again was extremely exciting. We got to my grandparents house
around 7 P.M. Most of my family arrived earlier so, I went off to see what my cousins were doing. I
found them in the backyard driving rampant on my grandfather s new golf cart. I probably should
have taken this as a sign to not get on, but everyone else was doing it so I decided I should just do it
too. Our parents eventually told us it was getting too late and to come inside. After watching the ball
drop, My cousins and I decided to take my grandfather s golf cart for one more ride. Our parents told
us that it was too late, too cold, and we shouldn t be going. We had the bright idea to go against what
our parents had just told us and told them we were going outside to play basketball. We got outside to
find that the keys were still in the ignition from the excitement we experienced earlier that day. My
cousins, Blake and Hannah, got in the front seat while I got in the backseat along with my other cousin
Hillary. We started our ride off with a trip down the driveway and quickly picked up speed, way faster
than we expected. As we got towards the end of the driveway, Blake decided it would be a good idea
to make a sharp left turn. This caused the golf cart to flip. As we were flipping, I could see Blake and
Hillary jump off while Hannah and I were somehow thrown under the golf cart. Hannah ended up
getting lucky, only her ankle was caught under a metal bar and she was able to easily get out. On the

The Rhetorical Analysis Of Barack Obama s Speech
Former President Barack Obama performed a speech in response to a mass shooting that happened in
a community college in Oregon. This speech included other gun related incidents which occurred
during his time in office in 2015 regarding Umpqua Community College and Roseburg. After giving
his condolences and love to those who felt loss in their hearts, Obama gave a powerful argument
regarding gun control and how we, as Americans, should fight and strive for better gun laws. While
Obama gave a moving speech, I could not help but feel it fell short in its argument while conducting a
thorough critique. Obama appealed to his audience utilizing pathos and ethos with ease but fell short
for those in the audience looking for logos or specific facts within his performance. I will be taking
this opportunity to delve further into an analysis of this speech and both its heights and pitfalls. The
strongest of Obama s points reside in his use of pathos, or emotional appeal, to connect with his
audience. The audience and appeal are blatant from the beginning of the essay to the final word.

palpable. Obama highlights this when he states: So, tonight, as those of us who are lucky enough to

people to think about how they can get our government to change these laws, and to save lives, and to

The s Guitar Hero Series And King s Candy Crush Saga
Games, in one form or another, have existed for almost as long as the human race and despite the fact
that they are often reduced to being something for children they are in fact quite complex. When
analysing games one must look at why they are engaging what keeps us playing and how they foster
participation in the average user. By comparing and contrasting the characteristics of Activision s
Guitar Hero series and King s Candy Crush Saga, it will become apparent that the former is more
engaging while the latter is more effective in fostering participation in players.
Before one can begin to analyse games in terms of their engagement and participation qualities, a
definition of what a game is and the characteristics that make them effective must be established.
Koster defines games by saying they are, iconic depictions of patterns in the world...games are puzzles
to solve (2004, p. 34), indicating that games are simply non threatening representations of reality
designed to teach the player skills that they will first have to discover for themselves. According to
Koster the skills games intend to teach are often, things that we can absorb into the unconscious as
opposed to things designed to be tackled by the conscious, logical mind (2004, P. 76) which is
something that can be seen in both Guitar Hero and Candy Crush. On the surface, Guitar Hero is a
game about being a rock star and playing music, but the way the game is played aims to improve hand

Common Names Research Paper
The name is a very powerful thing. A name is typically the first thing someone learns about someone
else. Simply a name can describe an individual s identity. Names do not only tell a person s story, they
also shape an identity and are impactful and important. The first impressions an individual makes
about someone else are often based upon his or her name. When a person hears a familiar or common
name, a positive image often comes to mind. Meanwhile, individuals with unique and different names
are often subjected to judgment based upon the assumptions of first impressions of others. Every name

Assumptions are based solely on a name and this first impression can be negative. Those with unusual
names are viewed differently and negatively compared to others. Being viewed negatively impacts
personality and generates insecurities. Research has found that, a name that is perceived as too
different may actually have an adverse effect on your child later in life (Willets). Essentially, it is
sought to be harder for those with complex names to receive jobs. This is because unique names could
put a halt to their career and life. A study found that a resume submitted under a perceived African
American name received less attention from employers than the identical resume bearing a more
Caucasian name (Goudreau). These assumptions are cultivated because people feel that they do not
share a connection with someone who an uncommon name, thus, they immediately draw negative
conclusions about the person through their name. While those assumptions are often wrong, they can
have a considerable influence on one s life and identity. The self esteem of an individual with a less

Economic Overview In Auto Industry Essay
Economic Overview of the Automotive Industry
The automotive industry is without a doubt an industry that has massive implications relating to the
United States economy as well as affecting every American household. Shifts in the supply and
demand of automobiles influence the current and future household purchases. Households must
determine what amount of their hard earned income to allocate to certain necessities. Because most
households have a budget, the amount spent on transportation it limited. While most industries have
an effect on the economy, the automotive industry has far reaching implications for most Americans.

Few American households live without some form of transportation. The amount of money spent on
the transportation proves whether the automobile is a necessity or a luxury. Higher priced models sell
more when the economy is stronger. When the economy is slow lower cost cars are more popular.
Transportation as a whole is a necessity. The form of the transportation is what determines if it is a
luxury. (Collier, 1981) The fluctuations in the supply and demand of automobiles have an effect on
other industries. One such industry that is affected in a measurable way is the after market automobile
parts industry. When the demand for new automobiles is high the demand for after market parts is
lower. When the demand for new automobiles is low the demand for after market parts rises. The only
explanation is uncovered when looking at individual households. Individual households have a limited
amount of money to budget for transportation. If new cars are in high demand the income is higher for
individual households. If new cars are not in high demand individual households have less money to
budget for transportation. With less money to budget for transportation, individuals are more likely to
use after market parts to make repairs on their existing vehicle rather than purchase a new vehicle
when their current vehicle needs costly repairs. The cost to repair a vehicle is far less than the cost to
purchase a new vehicle. (Lamonica,

Lesson number three is it is better to be a fox than a hedgehog . On the book, Silver expands this idea
and notes that a fox know many things because it s likely to intensely question itself and gather
information from a variety of sources. A hedgehog, on the other hand, will be more likely to rely on a
single source of conventional wisdom. This idea encourage us to be resourceful like a fox, so we can
be a more valuable contributor during the collaborative process. Collaboration is typically understood
as a process in which multiple people provide input .However, collaboration can also be performed on
an individual basis by collecting the information we need to shape to temper our projections and plans.
Lesson number four is polls become more accurate the closer you get to the Election Day . This idea
encourage us to continually update our forecast especially when we are approaching a decision point.
The farther into the future you forecast, the less accurate your forecasts are likely to be. The closer you
can update your forecasts to the point of decision, the more you improve your chances for accuracy.
But, we need to notice if we wait too long to share our forecasts in order to ensure maximum accuracy,
then we are defeating the purpose of the forecasting process. The optimal time to commit to a forecast
is when a decision has to be made based on that forecast. For example, a commitment to production or
to a purchase. We need

marked Apple s return to profitability. In 2005 the company underwent another period of change.
From 2005 07 Apple transitioned from PowerPC processors to Intel x86 processors. While the former
PowerPC processors were supplied by Motorola and IBM, Steve Jobs stated Apple s lack of faith in

The Gold Rush In California
The gold rush helped California industrialize. It is well known that industrialization in America started
in the east. However, the gold rush was the reason why California industrialized much faster than the
east. With the technological improvements, that the gold rush demands it helped California
industrialize much faster. James Marshall first discovered gold on January 24 1848 on the south fork
of the American river. A not so well know part of California history is that James Marshall was not the
first person to discover gold in California. Francisco Lopez was the first documented gold rush in
California. It is less know because right after Lopez had discovered gold the war between Mexico and
US had begun. Moreover, like everyone knows Mexico lost and lost California and other territory to
the US. After James Marshall had found gold and after everyone had started to hear the news, few
people started rushing to the minefields. The gold rush fever had not started yet because many people
were hesitant. It wasn t until president, President Polk at that time, confirmed that there really was
gold found in California after the announcement by Polk was heard. Massive amount of people from
all over the world rushed to California. States were not the first to hear about the news. Actually,
people in Hawaii were the first to find out. As trading ships were leaving the San Francisco port on
their trips across the pacific. Was when the Hawaii found out about the news? When the states

Northern Colonies Differences
While America was only in its early steps, a fresh and new nation, a rift soon began to form,
threatening to tear apart the continent before it had hardly begun. As cultures began to form in the
South and Northern colonies, so did mistrust and tensions between them. Differences in Urban and
Rural environments, focuses in different areas of expansion, and finally the issue of diversity in both
regions. While these differences pushed the colonies farther and farther away, there were similarities
between them, keeping the nation together for as long as it could.
The economy of the South was based almost solely on plantations and manual labor. While slavery
grew in the South, as well as farming, other parts of the economy shrunk. A lack ... Show more content

The principles in the early South almost never changed until the Civil war, and ideals from the
creation of colonies became law, never to be changed. In this way, the South walled itself from those
who tried to settle there only to find themselves turned away from society and shunned. Such people
would be mixed children, those who were not Christian, and Africans. Tolerance found in the north
soon dwindled moving down to the south, a devoutly Christian region until around the mid 1700 s.
Lack of communication and commerce with other nations as previously mentioned left the south at a
weak point, finding themselves turning others away, while being alone in themselves. A key reason for
the intense sense of culture in the modern South is this isolation found early in the history of these
colonies, where a sense of pride for these Southern values becomes all encompassing. A bold
similarity between the two regions stands out, a core set of values, whether for the North and South.
The Northern colonies had a focus on the sciences, and advancement of civilization, while the South
wanted nothing more than to live on their precious land, and focus on the plantation life they had
come to develop, not eager to branch out into any other

Analysis Of `` Forgiving My Father And `` A Rose For Emily ``
Lucille Clifton s and William Faulkner s characters in Forgiving my Father and A Rose for Emily
demonstrate sections of the authors personal lives and their past experiences, and the works give
insight into the styles along with the flow that the authors use when they write pieces like these. The
authors characters in the stories are also similarly written, being that some of the problems that they
face in the stories. The way that Clifton and Faulkner write pieces like these can often leave them
open to interpretation to the people that read them. Clifton and Faulkner are also known for writing
from personal standpoints whenever they write a poem or other form of literature, this helps them
connect with readers on personal levels which are why they are well known. Even though the authors
have similarities they also have differences in some of the topics that they write about, these two
works are key to showing that they can be similar at the time. When Faulkner writes a story he usually
uses his past environments as the setting, but changes the names of the places and people in which
these events occur. Faulkner is also known for using people in his family as characters for some
stories, but changing their names. In the F section of Twentieth Century American literature, there is a
brief summary of Faulkner s life that informs him about parts of his childhood and leads into his
adulthood, but also tells us that in his later years his stories can be related back to

Cultural Differences in India
Running Head: Cultural Differences in India
Cultural Differences in India
Cultural Differences in India
India is a unique country. Home to close to a billion people, it boasts a rich cultural history spanning
over 4 millennia. India s vast geographical coverage features all kinds of different terrain; from the
cold, magnificent peaks and valleys of Kashmir to the hot, barren lands of Jacobabad. With such
terrain comes a culture so vast that it is almost impossible to define. India possesses an array of
different races, languages, religions and customs (Bryman Hardy, 2009).
It is said that almost all of the world s most popular religions are found in India, which can be further
separated into different sects. Across the country, almost 400 different languages are spoken including
Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Urdu, Kashmiri, Marathi, Sanskrit and English. It should be worth noting here
that a vast majority of these languages also have their own scripts and literature. In terms of racial
diversity, again India claims to be home to many races such as the Mongolians, Arabs, Afghans, Sakas
and the Kushanas as well as the various different jungle tribes spread across the country. Thus,
communicating across these cultures can always lead to misunderstandings and friction between
different groups.
One must realize that where all these different races, religions, languages and customs must co exist,
there shall always be cross cultural disputes, territory wars and a battle for

Photo Booth Advantages And Disadvantages
In its very definition, a portable photo booth will definitely be of greater benefit than a fixed one,
albeit with just a few exceptions. There will be some situations where it will be necessary to have a
photo booth be it fixed or portable. Events are being held every day and now more than ever, attendees
will want to keep these memories alive. Having a photo booth with which you can move around and
offer this as a service to a wider market is a sure way to make it an expansive business and increase
your income in the long run. As a matter of fact, event organizers are quickly taking this up and
incorporating it in their portfolio. It dispels the worry of the venue in which an event is being hosted
not having a photo booth and the need to hire a professional photographer to take care of event
photography. As it stands, the world economy is pretty much what you would consider paralyzed and
as a person in the business, you need to know that you can provide a service that pays the bills without
having to work. You need to ascertain that the resources you invest are being put into use and creating
even more revenue. A portable photo booth is an excellent way you can get this into practice. It has a
good number of benefits to get you counting your money at the end of every occasion in your locality.
Among the advantages you stand to achieve include the ease of set up and better time management.
The benefits of buying a portable photo booth are as follows:
1. Minimal Technical Experience Required
Setting up a booth is pretty simple anyone can pick up the basics, it doesn t take a professional
photographer. The software is very easy to use; it takes just a few hours to get it all hooked up. With
just an experiment on the settings, you can master the art in no time. A bit of familiarity with such
settings as aperture, shutter speed and ISO would be all the help you need. There s barely any
technical experience necessary to get it in action. The materials used in the construction of portable
photo booths are rather flexible and light. This means that the installation process will be much easier
and it will take a short time to uninstall it and carry it away from the venue of the event. This is a clear

Bicycle Thieves Themes
Bicycle Thieves, an Italian film directed by Vito De Sica is a classic of the Neorealist film movement.
The film depicts a story of a father and son and their journey together to find the main character s;
Antonio Ricci s; stolen bike. On a baseline level, this film shows a sense of mystery and action, all
surrounded by the family unit. The family unit divides into a few prevalent themes within the film
such as the bond of husband and wife, the bond of the father and son and the karma philosophy and
specifically how it affects community. The sense of family is a strong theme within the film Bicycle
Thieves. This is played out through Antonio s relationships with his wife, Maria. In the beginning,
Antonio and Maria s relationship takes hold of the story. Their relationship to another is compact and
yet pure. In many ways, at first one can see Maria s character as plot device. Yet upon closer
examination one can see she sets up the strong family unit that drives her husband and son; Bruno;
upon their mission. Maria is a strong character and a strong women. I believe it is her strong presence
that makes Antonio want to be strong. It is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It speaks to the philosophy around decision making, and how one decision against another human
being can affect one s own life. While Karma is a mere theory I believe this film brings this theory to

20 minutes into the film) Antonio convinces Marias not to waste her money on repaying the physic

this decision that provokes Antonio s desperate need is to have his bike returned.Antonio lost his bike,

Anh Do s Autobiography The Happiest Refugee
Students study a range of courses through the analysis of text types, in our school s Year Nine English
curriculum. They have studied poetry in the course of Australian Identity , in which it gave an insight
into conflicts, customs and multiculturalism in Australia. Despite that, all they have learnt is just the
tip of the iceberg, and that as a multicultural school, they should have a deeper understanding of the
experiences of refugees who have made Australia their home. It is why Anh Do s autobiography, The
Happiest Refugee , should be included for study in a Year nine English course, by you, the English
faculty.
The book is an emotional and humorous autobiography, which circulates around the life of Anh Do,

Hack An Iphone Analysis
The articles of the constitution have withstood the change of time because our country founders
worded them in such a way so that principle ideas will never be questioned. The FBI in the case of one
of the California shooters, Syed Farook, pressured Apple to hack the phone without the search
warrant. The FBI shouldn t have pressured Apple to hack an iPhone because it breaches privacy, it
violates free speech, and it hurts apple s business.
From the business point of view of Apple, I have seen Arguments that Apple refused to unlock the
phone for business reasons, to protect the Brand. (2) This because Apple phone sales would decrease
because people of the world do not want to be tracked on their phones. Also, the company has a

Government has no right to force anybody to provide Services against their will. (2) If the U.S. did
force companies to provide services to violate personal privacy, freedom or speech, or fundamental
human rights, they would behave no differently than the governments of Russia or China. Unlike the
U.S., these governments have no respect for individual rights or free speech.
On the other hand, many people may argue that by hacking into the shooter s iPhone it would increase
national security. But, The Fourth Amendment was meant to protect Americans from illegal searches.
This means that police or other law enforcement can t search your home, car, or clothing without
permission from a court. It also guarantees Americans right to privacy... It doesn t say that a person s
home or belongings can t be searched at all. It does say that the government must have a good reason
for the search, or probable cause. And the government must get permission, in the form of a warrant
from a judge by showing probable cause. (1) That is because the fourth amendment gives us the right
to privacy.
All in all, Apple did choose the right thing of refusing to hack into the iPhone. If Apple would breach
the Phone, then they would break the constitution by going against the first and fourth amendment.
Also, if Apple did violate the device, then it would have hurt the brand name. To avoid any other
issues such as this one in the future we should amend the constitution or add laws that adjust to
changing technology in the

Position in the Market
The company s ability to pay is less than that of its competitors and will remain constrained until the
company can establish a reputation and gain a share of the market (Cascio, 2013, p. 420), so the
company should position itself carefully in the market. LL should allocate 25% of its budget for salary
and benefits and use performance incentives, merit based pay to keep fixed labor costs low. LL should
pay employees $9.33 per hour, which is $19,406 per year and is $2 per hour less than industry average
for Austin, Texas. The company should pay management a salary 5% higher than employees to
maintain the balance of compensation rates (Cascio, 2013, pp. 423 424). The company should use
additional benefits, performance based incentives, and merit pay to attract, retain, and motivate
employees who share the company s vision and goals (Cascio, 2013, p. 423).
Total Compensation and Benefits Strategy The total compensation and benefits strategy of the
company should place an emphasis on compensation through incentives with a reduced fixed labor
cost. If the company is successful, employees receive additional compensation and if the company is
experiencing difficulty gaining a market share or if there is an economic downturn, the company has a
reduced labor cost (Cascio, 2013, p. 420). The company should not use pay grades because of hybrid

Kant On Euthanasia
Philosophy 1610
22 April 2013
Euthanasia or Just Plain Murder:
The Mercy Death/Killing Debate
Euthanasia is the practice of ending a life in order to release an individual from unbearable suffering
or an incurable disease. Euthanasia the word is derived from Ancient Greek, Eu meaning good and
Thantos meaning Death and when combined the term means Good Death . Mercy Death by definition
is taking a direct action to terminate a person s life because the person has requested to do so. This
also includes physician assisted suicide, not to be confused with suicide which is the taking of one s
life by one s own hand without assistance. Mercy Killing is also a term used and it refers to someone
taking a direct action to terminate a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since we ve established that Kant is strongly against euthanasia; at least active euthanasia. We can
now discuss the arguments of Thiroux in relativity to this debate. Active euthanasia, it is in direct
violation of the value of life principle. This means that the involvement of taking a life usually means
killing an innocent person. This is unlike the defense of an innocent, war or capital punishment. It can
also be open to the domino argument, which essentially argues if human beings allow one thing to be
declared legal or moral; this could cause a multitude of others bad things to follow. The church also
have the argument over religious practices and means that God gave us life as a gift, so why should
we have the right to take it away again? The religious aspect has many different reasons for being
against euthanasia but all religions stem from the belief of a higher power or being giving us the gift
of life. There are also other available options as in possibly of finding a cure or using hospice as an
alternative. So in result Immanuel Kant has his own ethical theory and arguments revolving around
the taking of one s life via euthanasia, therefore many arguments or debates can be given to defend the
right not to take another individuals life based on one s own ethical views.
A second ethical theory that can be raised is what stance does Utilitarianism takes on the debate of
euthanasia. A brief definition of Utilitarianism is

Reasons For The Assassination Of Abraham Lincoln

The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln Many consider Abraham Lincoln to be one of the greatest
presidents of all time. He helped lead our nation through a terrible war, but was not rewarded very
well for his actions. Lincoln was the first president to be murdered. The assassination of Abraham
Lincoln was very complex, both in the planning and the execution. Before discussing the assassination
of Abraham Lincoln, one must first understand the motive behind the assassination. There are many
different theories on why John Wilkes Booth decided to assassinate Abraham Lincoln. One reason
may have been to avenge the South. Booth wrote in a letter to his mother, I feel I owe the cause ...

Booth went to Ford s Theater to pick up mail, he heard that Lincoln was going to be attending a play
that night. Booth knew the theater really well since he had performed there, and decided that night was
the perfect chance to murder Lincoln. Booth had a meeting with the other conspirators to finalize the
plan. Lewis Powell was supposed to kill William H. Seward, the secretary of state, but did not
succeed. Powell only wounded him by stabbing him in the face with a knife. George Atzerodt was
assigned to kill Vice president Andrew Johnson, but failed miserably. He got to the bar where Andrew
Johnson was drinking, and got too afraid to go through with the plan. He ended up getting drunk,
throwing the knife away, and falling asleep in a hotel room. Booth however went through with his
part. Booth went up to the Presidential Box, waited until there was a funny line so the audience would
be laughing very loudly, and shot Abraham Lincoln at point blank range. Major Rathbone, who was in
the box with Lincoln immediately jumped up to try and keep Booth from escaping. Booth jumped
twelve feet out of the presidential Box and onto the stage, thus breaking his left leg. Many
eyewitnesses said he yelled Sic semper tyrannis! which translates to Thus always to tyrants! Booth
immediately fled out of the building and started one of the greatest manhunts in american history.
After two weeks, Booth was finally shot and killed. Mary Surratt, Lewis Powell, David Herold, and
George Atzerodt were executed by hanging on July 7, 1865. Samuel Arnold, Samuel Mudd and

Nepal is a relatively small (population around 26.5 million) land locked country, bordered by the two
biggest countries in the world, India and China. Its renowned physical beauty makes it very
fragmented and many parts are inaccessible by modern transport and communication facilities. There
are few cities and 86% of the population lives in rural areas. The country is divided into 5
development regions, 14 zones and 75 districts. Despite its richness in biodiversity, natural resources
and cultural multiplicity, Nepal has still remained a developing country where more than 24 percent of
the people live under the poverty line. The impact of the poverty is manifest in all other sectors like
health and hygiene, education, disaster and conflict preparedness, access to and distribution of
resources, gender equity, as well as respect for humanitarian values. The transitional period of

The Visualization Of Fear In Brent Staples s Just Walk On...
Fear is a quintessential human emotion. Some people live devoid of joy, happiness, and pleasure, but
no one escapes the experience of fear. The visualization of danger is greatly impacted by the many
stereotypes society has shaped. The formation of these stereotypes can affect the actions of both the
perpetrator and the victim. In Brent Staples essay, Just Walk on By, the author describes his
experiences, feelings, issues, stereotypes, and reactions towards the discrimination he has faced being
a black man in public surroundings. Staples describes several different personal experiences of when
he feels that he had been judged or discriminated against by other people, based on the color of his
skin and how that contributed to his overall appearance. He reveals how the actions taken towards him
were because of the fear linked to his labeled stereotypes of being a rapist, gangster, or mugger.
Staples feels fearful and does not have the same freedom as other people. Staples has many reasons to
be afraid. He discusses his own experiences on how he is stereotyped. In the essay, Staples describes
himself as a tall, young black man who has graduated and is educated. He also mentions that he is a
soft guy who would not even harm a chicken with a knife, so he could never do that to a woman.
Staples talks about how people think of him as a bad person, which he is not. In one case, Staples
states, It was clear that she thought herself the quarry of a mugger, a rapist or worse (1). Even though
he is walking a clear distance at night behind a white woman, she is afraid of him. People stereotype
him because he is an African American and he looks intimidating. He is not treated fairly and is
always being discriminated against. If Staple s first victim thought he was a rapist or a mugger, she
might go on and tell other people that a mugger or rapist who is black followed her, and she got away
from him. Later on, other people start to think he is dangerous, and they could get violent with him.
The author feels fearful because, at any moment, people can hurt him if they suspect him of being a
bad person. He admits to feeling unsafe and being discriminated against in public places. He does not
feel accepted among people.

  • 2. Third Culture Kids To all my fellow third culture kids You know when you discover a new word and all of a sudden you notice everyone using it in their vocabulary? Paradigm shift was something I learnt the first time when my anthropology professor used it, and then three days later I heard my chemistry teacher use it to explain the development in chemistry; specifically, about how famous German chemists would build off of each other s ideas and cause paradigm shifts in the world of science. That isn t the term I care much about though. Third Culture Kid, was the term that ended up capturing exactly how I felt. The colour of my skin didn t seem to reflect the values I believed in. Merdeka Square is an important historical building in Malaysia. It is also known as Independent Square and Dataran Merdeka in Malay. Merdeka Square is located at the heart of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. To be specific, it is situated right in front of Sultan Abdul Samad building. Before it was known as Merdeka Square, it was formerly known as Padang or the Selangor Club Padang . It is important to have maintained the historical site well. This is to remind the younger generation on what had been going on in the past. It is for them to realize the remarkable things that our leaders and our ancestors fought for us. Underneath the square is a complex called Plaza Putra. It is an underground complex with food, leisure and entertainments. It is very convenient to tourists as they can easily get food and entertainments after spending their day at Merdeka Square. During our visit to Merdeka Square, when we finally got to see what we have always learnt in the history textbooks and experienced it besides watching it from the television programmes, it felt so surreal. • 4. Isoniazid Essay ISONIAZID Isoniazid was identified by pursuing derivatives of nicotinamide. Optimization of nicotinamide produces two distinct drugs with very different charactetistics, rifampin and pyrazinamide. There are two independent tracks of SARs for this drug series, one governing the activation of the prodrug and another governing the interaction of the active species with InhA. Many groups at the 4 position can be activated inside M.tubeculosis, and are possible prodrug structures. After activation, the structural requirments for InhA binding appear to be very stringent. Only the isonicotinoyl core structure is substantially active among many aryl and heteroaryl groups explored. The isonicotinoyl group could be substituted with lower alkyl groups while ... [47] Chemical modifications of the natural products have produced several clinically important semisynthetic rifamycins with improved pharmacological profiles. SARs are highlighted in the figure below. Pyrazinamide is one of the analog of nicotinamides and shares the same root with isoniazid. It can be only activated under acidic condition. There are two ways of the SAR tracks, which are the activation of the pyrazinamidase (PZase) and also the target interaction of the resulting acid. [46] In the study of Structure activity relationship, the R1 groups contribute to two important functions: i. The activated species of pyrazinamide, pyrazinoic acid is usually in its anionic form at physiological pH. Thus, it is not permeable or bioavailable. With R1 group, it can masks the acid group and makes the drug permeable to cell membranes. [46] ii. The killing effect of pyrazinoic acid is unlikely a selective process. The presence of R1 group will cause the selective removal of R1 group by M.tuberculosis and other bacteria. Hence, this will lead to desired selectivity of the drug. ... • 7. Aspects Of Inadequacies Throughout World War II Essay Aspects of Inadequacies throughout World War II The state of America s military forces at the outset of World War II can be summed up in one word: unprepared. Certainly that is the case witnessed on many levels at the attack at Pearl Harbor. Sailors rested on Sunday morning, unprepared for the sneak attack; commanders were off ship, enjoying golf or a leisurely breakfast, completely caught off guard when the bombs fell; and the fleet itself was unprepared, with most of its ships at anchor in the harbor, making relatively easy targets for Japanese bombers. Descriptions of being caught unaware dominate personal narratives of that day and the days that followed, both from those who experienced the events, and from political and military leaders across the ocean back in the states. Once the realization of just how unprepared the United States was for war sank in, both within American leadership and citizenry, efforts turned to preparation. The U.S. government mobilized on an institutional level unprecedented in American history. The U.S. government organized industry and manufacturing, agriculture and food production, and its people into the war effort. And of course there was the buildup of the military forces, with increased budgets, increased enlistment, and expedited training for new troops. The buildup of the American war machine took time, however, and in the interim, shortages during the early months of the war ran rampant. Terms such as unprepared and ... • 8. Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson And Edgar Lee Masters Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson, and Edgar Lee Masters were three literacy scholars, who without a doubt evolved American literature. They were each able to break the ancient stigmas, and created supplementary freedom when it came to what a piece of literature can offer. They were known to speak upon various topics that were recognized as inappropriate within the society, but that didn t stop them from stating their beliefs. Common similarities that these literacy masters shared amongst each other were constant themes of death, afterlife and religion. Although these three themes made a regular occurrence in their pieces of literature, each writer had different views towards the various themes which were displayed throughout their texts, and pieces of poetries. Walt Whitman s thoughts towards the topic of religion, and the afterlife was displayed throughout one of Whitman s most prodigious works, Song of Myself. He intertwines his most deepest, and intimate beliefs on self spirituality, and death. In section 48 of Song of Myself he mentions that, I have said that the soul is not more than the body, / And I have said that the body is not more than the soul, / And nothing, not God, is greater to one than one s self is... (Whitman, Walt) In section 49, Whitman continues to add, And as to you Life I reckon you are the leavings of many deaths, / (No doubt I have died myself ten thousand times before.) (Whitman, Walt). • 10. Persuasive Essay On Guns In Schools Since 2013, there have been 306 school shootings in America. That is an average of one shooting per week. The mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, located in Parkland, FL was committed by nineteen year old, Nikolas Cruz. He was armed with an AR 15 and open fired in the school, killing seventeen people and wounding several others. This is the deadliest school shooting since the 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. It s extremely unfortunate to know that children are also victims of America s gun violence crisis, even while attending school. It is even more unfortunate and frustrating to know that the National Rifle Association (NRA) use school shootings like Parkland to encourage policies that allow guns in schools. According to Everytownresearch, there is no evidence to validate the increased safety of arming teachers in schools. As a future early childhood educator, I am against bringing guns into my school and classroom. • 13. Reflection Paper On Golf Carts As a teenager, hearing our parents tell us no to doing something enjoyable due to it being unsafe is a huge heartbreaker . We seem to think we are invincible and that our parents know absolutely nothing. January 1st of 2015, I learned that maybe, just maybe, our parents are actually looking out for us. We should probably listen to them when they tell us to not ride a golf cart at 1 A.M. on a freezing cold winter night. My day started off just as it usually does, I wake up and go straight to the kitchen for my morning cup of hot chocolate. I knew that this day was going to be fun, it was New Year s eve. My grandparents were having a family party that night. I have a very close relationship with all of my family so seeing everyone together again was extremely exciting. We got to my grandparents house around 7 P.M. Most of my family arrived earlier so, I went off to see what my cousins were doing. I found them in the backyard driving rampant on my grandfather s new golf cart. I probably should have taken this as a sign to not get on, but everyone else was doing it so I decided I should just do it too. Our parents eventually told us it was getting too late and to come inside. After watching the ball drop, My cousins and I decided to take my grandfather s golf cart for one more ride. Our parents told us that it was too late, too cold, and we shouldn t be going. We had the bright idea to go against what our parents had just told us and told them we were going outside to play basketball. We got outside to find that the keys were still in the ignition from the excitement we experienced earlier that day. My cousins, Blake and Hannah, got in the front seat while I got in the backseat along with my other cousin Hillary. We started our ride off with a trip down the driveway and quickly picked up speed, way faster than we expected. As we got towards the end of the driveway, Blake decided it would be a good idea to make a sharp left turn. This caused the golf cart to flip. As we were flipping, I could see Blake and Hillary jump off while Hannah and I were somehow thrown under the golf cart. Hannah ended up getting lucky, only her ankle was caught under a metal bar and she was able to easily get out. On the other hand, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. The Rhetorical Analysis Of Barack Obama s Speech Former President Barack Obama performed a speech in response to a mass shooting that happened in a community college in Oregon. This speech included other gun related incidents which occurred during his time in office in 2015 regarding Umpqua Community College and Roseburg. After giving his condolences and love to those who felt loss in their hearts, Obama gave a powerful argument regarding gun control and how we, as Americans, should fight and strive for better gun laws. While Obama gave a moving speech, I could not help but feel it fell short in its argument while conducting a thorough critique. Obama appealed to his audience utilizing pathos and ethos with ease but fell short for those in the audience looking for logos or specific facts within his performance. I will be taking this opportunity to delve further into an analysis of this speech and both its heights and pitfalls. The strongest of Obama s points reside in his use of pathos, or emotional appeal, to connect with his audience. The audience and appeal are blatant from the beginning of the essay to the final word. Americans. Due to the loss of American lives, the emotional charge within the audience is almost palpable. Obama highlights this when he states: So, tonight, as those of us who are lucky enough to hug our kids a little closer are thinking about the families who aren t so fortunate, I d ask the American people to think about how they can get our government to change these laws, and to save lives, and to ... • 16. The s Guitar Hero Series And King s Candy Crush Saga Games, in one form or another, have existed for almost as long as the human race and despite the fact that they are often reduced to being something for children they are in fact quite complex. When analysing games one must look at why they are engaging what keeps us playing and how they foster participation in the average user. By comparing and contrasting the characteristics of Activision s Guitar Hero series and King s Candy Crush Saga, it will become apparent that the former is more engaging while the latter is more effective in fostering participation in players. Before one can begin to analyse games in terms of their engagement and participation qualities, a definition of what a game is and the characteristics that make them effective must be established. Koster defines games by saying they are, iconic depictions of patterns in the world...games are puzzles to solve (2004, p. 34), indicating that games are simply non threatening representations of reality designed to teach the player skills that they will first have to discover for themselves. According to Koster the skills games intend to teach are often, things that we can absorb into the unconscious as opposed to things designed to be tackled by the conscious, logical mind (2004, P. 76) which is something that can be seen in both Guitar Hero and Candy Crush. On the surface, Guitar Hero is a game about being a rock star and playing music, but the way the game is played aims to improve hand eye coordination ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Few American households live without some form of transportation. The amount of money spent on the transportation proves whether the automobile is a necessity or a luxury. Higher priced models sell more when the economy is stronger. When the economy is slow lower cost cars are more popular. Transportation as a whole is a necessity. The form of the transportation is what determines if it is a luxury. (Collier, 1981) The fluctuations in the supply and demand of automobiles have an effect on other industries. One such industry that is affected in a measurable way is the after market automobile parts industry. When the demand for new automobiles is high the demand for after market parts is lower. When the demand for new automobiles is low the demand for after market parts rises. The only explanation is uncovered when looking at individual households. Individual households have a limited amount of money to budget for transportation. If new cars are in high demand the income is higher for individual households. If new cars are not in high demand individual households have less money to budget for transportation. With less money to budget for transportation, individuals are more likely to use after market parts to make repairs on their existing vehicle rather than purchase a new vehicle when their current vehicle needs costly repairs. • 35. The Visualization Of Fear In Brent Staples s Just Walk On... Fear is a quintessential human emotion. Some people live devoid of joy, happiness, and pleasure, but no one escapes the experience of fear. The visualization of danger is greatly impacted by the many stereotypes society has shaped. The formation of these stereotypes can affect the actions of both the perpetrator and the victim. In Brent Staples essay, Just Walk on By, the author describes his experiences, feelings, issues, stereotypes, and reactions towards the discrimination he has faced being a black man in public surroundings. Staples describes several different personal experiences of when he feels that he had been judged or discriminated against by other people, based on the color of his skin and how that contributed to his overall appearance. He reveals how the actions taken towards him were because of the fear linked to his labeled stereotypes of being a rapist, gangster, or mugger. Staples feels fearful and does not have the same freedom as other people. Staples has many reasons to be afraid. He discusses his own experiences on how he is stereotyped. In the essay, Staples describes himself as a tall, young black man who has graduated and is educated. He also mentions that he is a soft guy who would not even harm a chicken with a knife, so he could never do that to a woman. Staples talks about how people think of him as a bad person, which he is not. In one case, Staples states, It was clear that she thought herself the quarry of a mugger, a rapist or worse (1). Even though he is walking a clear distance at night behind a white woman, she is afraid of him. People stereotype him because he is an African American and he looks intimidating. He is not treated fairly and is always being discriminated against. If Staple s first victim thought he was a rapist or a mugger, she might go on and tell other people that a mugger or rapist who is black followed her, and she got away from him. Later on, other people start to think he is dangerous, and they could get violent with him. The author feels fearful because, at any moment, people can hurt him if they suspect him of being a bad person. He admits to feeling unsafe and being discriminated against in public places. He does not feel accepted among people. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
