How Did Himmler Changed History
Heinrich Himmler made a significant difference in the course of history during World War II. One
example of this is the creation of the S.S., also known as the Security Service. The S.S. gave Himmler
almost unlimited power in Germany and led to the deportation of millions of Jews. He also changed
history by using propaganda attacks to convince the people Poland had attacked Germany. This gave
Hitler a reason to invade Poland, leading to the start of World War II. Finally, Himmler created a
system of concentration camps and created the gas chambers used within them. Both led to the death
of over six million Jews and other minority groups in Germany and other countries under Nazi rule.

Hitler, who was impressed by the Dachau concentration camp, authorized Himmler to create an
organized system of concentration camps (United States Holocaust Memorial Museum). Himmler
expanded the concentration camps all over the country, as shown by the statement, ...the system grew
in wartime to include 30 40 main camps and hundreds of subcamps. SS camp authorities would kill
around two million prisoners, (United States Holocaust Memorial Museum). Also, Himmler helped
create the Final Solution , which would go on to kill millions of Jews across Europe. Hitler trusted
Himmler to carry out his plan and implement the mass extermination of the Jews, which had massive
impacts throughout the world (United States Holocaust Memorial Museum). After Himmler witnessed
a mass shooting of Jews in Minsk, he decided that a more effective way needed to be created in order
to prevent his men from PTSD (PBS). This lead to the creation of the gas chambers, which were
implemented in Auschwitz and other death camps and were mass murder machines that could kill
hundreds of people at a time. Heinrich Himmler created the concentration camp system and gas

The Study Of Cells From 330 Years Ago
The study of cells started about 330 years ago. Before that time cells escaped notice because of their
small size. With the invention of the microscope and its subsequent improvement, cells became visible
and many new discoveries were made about them. Even today the study of cells reveals more detail,
and its secrets, which are in fact the secrets of life itself, are revealed with ever increasing clarity. In
1665, English Scientist and Microscopist Robert Hooke described a honeycomb like network of
cellulae (Latin for little storage rooms) in cork slice using his primitive compound microscope. Robert
Hooke used the term cells to describe units in plant tissue (thick cell walls could be observed). Of
course he saw only cell walls because cork cells are dead and without protoplasm. He drew the cells
he saw and also coined the word cell. The word cell is derived from the latin word cellula which
means small compartment. Hooke published his findings in his famous work, Micrographia. Hooke
anticipated some of the most important discoveries and inventions of his time but failed to carry many
of them through to completion. He formulated the theory of planetary motion as a problem in
mechanics, and grasped, but did not develop mathematically, the fundamental theory on which the
English physicist Sir Isaac Newton formulated the law of gravitation. Hooke s most important
contributions include the correct formulation of the theory of elasticity, which states that an elastic

Reflection On Teaching Practices
Personal beliefs, values, and attitudes shape and influence our everyday lives. Blaise and Nuttall
(2011) state that beliefs, values, and attitudes about families, communities, and citizenship are formed
by our upbringing, personal experience, education and social norms. Thus, providing the framework
for all decisions, behaviour, and judgments we make. As a preservice teacher, it is imperative to work
continuously towards being able to offer an inclusive classroom environment, and it is essential that I
am aware of any potential biases that may unconsciously appear in my teaching practices. Therefore, I
need to be mindful of my values and attitudes at all times and consider a different discourse if these
show prejudice in any way. Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations
[DEEWR] for the Council of Australian Governments (2009) claim that to efficiently unravel hidden
biases and assumptions I hold in regards to families, communities, and children s citizenship I will
need to reflect critically on what they mean to me. Identifying the factors that have shaped my views
and how these could impact on my teaching practices. Followed by strategies that could help ensure I
am inclusive of all families, communities, and citizenship in the future.
Throughout Australia, there are various definitions of what a family is and what constitutes a family.

Short Story Of Myrtle Wilson
VALLEY OF ASHES It was a sweltering night, the air heavy with the tears of God, as Mrs. Myrtle
Wilson was struck by the death car. Mrs. Wilson ran out of the Wilson s building, a garage structure
for Mr. Wilson s business and the couple s house right on top. Simultaneously, a yellow car,
(spectators disagree on the color of the car, and there have not been any confirmations on the true
color of the car, however, Mr. Wilson claims to know the kind of car it was), was whizzing past
heading back from New York, assumed to be driving at fifty to sixty miles per hour, while Mrs.
Wilson ran into the road. In a tragic event, Mrs. Myrtle Wilson was killed instantly, with her left breast
left unattached to her body and her red hair tangled with blood, and left for dead as the death car and
its owners never stopped and continued on down the road. Mr. Wilson, absolutely distressed, was
yelling in exclamations right after the death car s mowing down of his wife.
Mrs. Wilson was a loving wife, and was planning to go West to pursue their own American Dream,
one can only assume, with her husband, Mr. George Wilson. Mrs. Myrtle was an easy going, high

Wilson has spoken about his belief that his wife was murdered and continues to express his
understanding of the event by stating that Mrs. Myrtle Wilson was having an affair and was running to
the man in the car in order to speak to him and the man refused to stop. However, a source close to
Mr. Wilson suspects that Mrs. Wilson had been trying to run away from her husband than trying to
speak with her lover. The frenzy and chaos that took hold in the Wilson s home is a plausible
explanation for Mr. Wilson s belief. According to a medical professional, Mr. Wilson s grief has
caused him to create fantasies and delusions in order to lessen the pain over the death of his wife. It
has been most commonly explained as part of the grieving process. Also, foul play has not been cited

Communism Of The Vietnam War And The Cold War
Communism is an ideology that has a very long history more than one third of the globe. This
ideology is followed by Russia, Cuba, Laos, China, North Korea, and Vietnam. This ideology is the
source of many revolutions and conflicts throughout the history likes the English Civil War, the
Bolshevik Revolution, the Vietnam War, the Korea War and the Cold War. However, what makes
Communism different from other ideologies is its origin, its policy, and its effects on the poor and the
working class.
Communism originated during the Stone Age, at the beginning of our human civilization from the
fourth B. C. as primitive Communism . At that point, everyone had an equal amount of work. Then it
was later being replaced by monarchy and capitalism. Communism has been mentioned in many
books: The Bible, Plato s Republic by Plato, Utopia (1516) by Sir Thomas More, City of the Sun
(1623) by Tommaso Campanella. This ideology also led to the English Civil War, a rebellion among
the poor class (peasant class) and the dominant class. But later being repressed heavily by the
dominant class. After the Industrial Age, the difference between the poor and the wealthy became
clearer, which lead to the rise of modern Communism . According to Marx, the Father of modern
Communism , he used to say: From each according to his ability, to each according to his need (World
History and Cultures). Later on, Marx met Engels. Sharing the same idea of the injustice among
classes, they published The

Dichloromethane Lab Report
In this experiment, a Friedel Crafts acylation was carried our by reacting acetic anhydride (the
acylating agent) and dichloromethane (solvent) with anisole to substitute an acyl group onto the
aromatic ring of anisole. Friedel Crafts reaction can be classified as an electrophilic aromatic
substitution. This involves an electrophile replacing a hydrogen atom located in the aromatic
compounding forming a new carbon carbon double blond. Acylation of a monosubstituted benzene
has the opportunity to yield any or all three different disubstituted products. We used the boiling point
and results from 1H NMR spectroscopy to determine if the product was a single product or a mixture

The first step was to weigh 2.93 g of anhydrous AlCl3, which acts as the Lewis acid catalyst. 10 mL
dichloromethane was used as the reaction solvent, and 1 mL anisole were stirred in a 50 mL RBF, in
an ice bath because the reaction is highly exothermic. Next, the previous measured AlCl3 is added
very slowly. Any remaining mixture is washed out with CH2Cl2. 1 mL acetic anhydride, which is the
acylating agent, is dropped slowly through the funnel because an exothermic reaction occurs. It is then
heated under reflux with a drying tube to exclude moisture from the reaction for 30 minutes to
complete the reaction. The warm mixture is now poured over 10 g of ice in a beaker to decompose the
aluminum chloride complex of the product and transfer organic salts to the aqueous phase. The
product was then allowed to sit at room temperature for one week. The organic layer was then
collected and washed with 5 mL 3 M NaOH and 5 mL saturated aqueous NaCl in the second wash.
The organic is the bottom layer both times due to the density of the halogen present in the
dichloromethane. The CH2Cl2 was then dried using ~1 g of anhydrous MgSO4, a drying agent. I
continued to add more drying agent until there was no clumping and the solution had free floaters. The
dichloromethane layer was evaporated by the Rotovap in a 50 mL round bottom flask

Olympic Housing Issues
Along with the money that must be spent on these new facilities, there must also be land for them to
reside on. Because new land cannot be created, scarcity again comes into effect. This is made apparent
through the real estate market. Often times, these Olympic construction projects take the space of what
would be housing developments or other building projects. This can cause rents to rise in the city and
its surrounding areas. These cities are also likely to experience the effects of crowding out (The
Economic Impact 19). Because there is an abundance of people flooding the area and limited space in
hotels for them to stay, hotel prices skyrocket. This causes many of the people who would normally
come visit the country without the games ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In some cases, citizens of the host city are very opposed to certain aspects of facilities that are built to
house the Games. For example, in the Sydney Olympics, the citizens held a very hostile attitude
toward the construction of the Bondi Beach Volleyball Stadium. They argued that the development of
that facility would close off a popular surfing beach for six months causing them an inconvenience.
The people of Sydney also thought that putting an arena on this stretch of beach might cause
environmental problems (Cashman 6). The recent Rio Olympics especially stirred up some
controversy. The developers of these games built a golf course in a natural reserve, evicted hundreds
of families to make way for infrastructure, and even built their press center on a slave burial ground
(Coston). These actions are all violations of universal ethical and moral principles. As Catholics, we
know that it is our job to care for the environment. When the maker s of the Rio Games, Sydney
Game, and any other Games for that matter, build a facility that disrupts a natural reserve or natural
habitat of animals, it breaks that teaching. We also know that each and every person is made in God s
image and therefore deserves to be treated with respect and dignity. The people that were evicted from
their homes or dug up from their graves to allow development were not given that dignity that they
deserve. Along with development, the initial bidding process also brings up ethics issues. When a
country enters into the bidding process to try to obtain the rights for hosting the Games, local
communities often end up being motivated and run by private business interests. This leads to the
interests of the citizens of the city not being properly represented. It also leads to the city spending
billions of dollars just to have a chance to host the Games, which they may

The Importance Of Extracurricular Activities For All...
Summary
This article begins by discussing the importance of extracurricular activities for all students. Only a
small margin of student with disabilities has a goal or even mentions extracurricular activities in their
IEP s. With the passing of IDEA in 2006, this allowed students to be more involved with their
nondisabled peers within the academic settings but does not cover the after school activities. These
activities can be crucial to a student s developmental skills in the long run. In a study done by the
National Center for Educational Statistics (1995), they found out that students who participate in
nonacademic activities are linked to better outcomes across a number of domains. These domains
include but not limited to; shaping recreational pursuits while currently in school and even post
graduation, choosing career paths or even giving the students the motivation to complete school, and
becoming socially connected to the same extend as their peers without disabilities and providing that
psychological adjustment. For those students who may be more severe in their needs, they can benefit
from these activities by helping them plan for their future, help them develop essential leadership
skills and self determination, allow them to engage with their school communities and sometimes
beyond, and develop meaningful, lasting friendships. One self determination skill that is learned by
students with and without a disability is self advocacy and leadership. In a study done by

The approach used in this thesis is inspired by Bollen et al s strategy [12], with a step taken forward to
implement PageRank algorithm to increase the accuracy of results and use of different sentiment
analysis techniques than the techniques used by him. In 2010, Bollen used Twitter data for finding the

The second phase includes polarity classification in which corpus is classified into positive, negative,

polarity classification achieved an average accuracy of 75.9% and 65.7%.
Besides understanding the effects of twitter data and sentiment analysis, a large group of researchers is
attracted towards various types of predictions and their applications in various fields. Andrei Oghina
[28] predicted Internet Movie Database (IMDB) ratings by information retrieval from social media.
They hypothesized that the correlation can be found between the IMDB ratings and social media
signals related to movie artifacts (e.g. movie title) . In 2010, Andranik et. al. [29 ] analyzed tweets
which mentioned political parties and politician during German election 2009 and found that large
number of tweets reflects voter preferences. Also, there are researches speculating the fact that Twitter
can be used in areas like real time event detection like earthquakes [30], tracking the spread of
diseases [31].
There is also prior work in finding the correlations between social media and stock market. In 2010,
Gilbert and Karahalios [32] estimated anxiety and fear from a dataset of over 20 million posts from
LiveJournal site. They calculated an index of US national mood known as the Anxiety Index. Results
of this experiment showed that when the Anxiety Index rose, the S P 500 market ended

The Board Of Overseers, Ladies And Gentlemen Essay
Devin thomas
Mr. President, Dr. Conant, members of the Board of Overseers, Ladies and Gentlemen:
I am profoundly grateful, touched by the great distinction and honor and great compliment accorded
me by the authorities of Harvard this morning. I am overwhelmed, as a matter of fact, and I am rather
fearful of my inability to maintain such a high rating as you ve been generous enough to accord to me.
In these historic and lovely surroundings, this perfect day, and this very wonderful assembly, it is a
tremendously impressive thing to an individual in my position.
But to speak more seriously, I need not tell you that the world situation is very serious. That must be
apparent to all intelligent people. I think one difficulty is that the problem is one of such enormous
complexity that the very mass of facts presented to the public by press and radio make it exceedingly
difficult for the man in the street to reach a clear appraisement of the situation. Furthermore, the
people of this country are distant from the troubled areas of the earth, and it is hard for them to
comprehend the plight and consequent reactions of the long suffering peoples of Europe and the effect
of those reactions on their governments in connection with our efforts to promote peace in the world.

Wordsworth And John Muir Essay
John Muir and William Wordsworth are great examples of this theory. Throughout their stories, both
men give great insight to how the harmony of nature impacts their lives in a way that can make them
forget about all the sorrow and depression they have following behind them; Wordsworth and Muir s
stories include syntax and diction to verbalize their passionate relationship towards nature. William
Wordsworth s poem, I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud excellently shows how the power of beauty can
changes one s once depressed, sad day into joy and blissfulness. In Wordsworth s story, he exploits his
experience of how nature changed his mood of depression and sorrow to grateful and glee when he
stumbles across a bed of beautiful golden daffodils dancing in the breeze. Wordsworth writes: A poet
could not be but gay, in such a jocund company (stanza 3). In this passage, Wordsworth shows his
change of heart when in the presence of something so beautiful and alluring. Wordsworth also shows
how nature impacts his mood from the quote: They flash upon the inward eye, and my heart with
pleasure fills (stanza 4). In this final quote, Wordsworth explains that even when he is apart from the
beautiful golden daffodils, it is the memory that keeps his spirits alive. While Wordsworth s

My Reflection Of My Writing As A Portfolio
In my portfolio I will be including my first essay and second essay that I did for this class. I am most
proud of these essays not because I took my time on them but I know that I fixed what was asked and
made a lot of improvements on them. I believe I did meet the contract agreement that we signed at the
beginning of the quarter. Although, I did miss some days of class, more than I expected, but even after
that I feel like I kept up with my work in and outside of the classroom and what was required. I
enjoyed this class a lot because I was able to learn a lot about myself as a learner and was able to work
on my study habits. I learned a lot about how to read properly and how reading aloud truly helps you
as a writer and learner. I also became better at being able to correct others essays without feeling
guilty of what I was saying. At first I felt like I wasn t going to be able to put as much time as I wanted
in my outside of class work. But over the course, I learned that I had to make it a priority and didn t
have any other choice. I had to make it work with my job schedule and use my time very wisely,
which at first wasn t easy because I wasn t really good at that. These past ten weeks, say that I m still

the amount of hours I should be putting in time into my study time. I learned that the easiest things are

One Of These Things Is Not Like The Other Ones Analysis
Webster s dictionary defines a family as a group of people sharing a common ancestry . While some
families, such as those with bank robbers, drug dealers or users, and mass murderers are notorious and
other family members would like to forget about the non conformers, most people take pride in their
lineage. Ask almost anyone about their family and they will be sure to relate how many doctors,
lawyers, congressmen, etc. they have in their bloodline. You will probably see a strong connection
from generation to generation.
Human nature causes us to crave being around those who accept us for what we are. Nothing is more

was to display the ransom ware s demands of extortion of payment, to restore the files to their original
state, and if demands of payment were not met files would be deleted. In one hour increments if the

look for elements of the culture that align to the change, bring them to the foreground, and attract the
attention of the employees who will be affecting the change.
Begin at the top. Effective change management activity starts with the top level managers who agree
that change is needed and that are fully supported by the head of the organization. Senior level
managers must act as one cohesive and committed team, employees will follow their example.
Involve everyone. Change occurs remarkably easier when all levels of employees are included early
on in the change process. Employees who are responsible for actually doing the work are the ones in
the best position to identify areas where potential pitfalls exists, are in contact with the customers and
will know how they may respond to the change, and have the power to make or break the change
activity.
Make a rational case for change. People respond more to a call to action that engages their emotions as
well as their minds, making them feel as though they are a part of something

Abdominal Surgery
Abdominal surgery means that your stomach muscles will never be the same again. This is the main
muscle group that supports the torso in the front of the body. If surgery is required on this area, then
there will be a weakness in the torso. Using a waist cincher will protect the area of the incision and
will strengthen the torso. When stomach surgery is necessary, the muscle group known as your core
will be weakened and will need to be built back up. This will happen any time a muscle group is cut
into. Abdominal surgery is even more likely to have this affect. Because the abdominal muscles
support the torso, this can create serious problems for some people. This area also carries the internal
organs. The torso needs to be strong to carry

Goal Sheet
2008.....
It was third grade gym class, and my group was out playing soccer on a rainy day, why? It was
drizzling, but it had rained hard the night before so the field was muddy. We did small laps around the
goal posts, stretched and then we picked teams.
It was all good until I was picked to be a goalkeeper. I hated being goalkeeper because being goal
keeper means one literally keeps the team s score, like you re the one responsible for your wins, if you
mess up the whole team is screwed. Compare it to an ancient war and someone is in charge of keeping
the city walls safe, if you let unknown people in, and your whole city/country is done for. So I was
damn near begging them not to let me be the goalkeeper but I had to and it did not go ... Show more

That s how nervous I was because I knew if I mess up, then that s it, and the team wins.
How I missed the first goal was well, not as important but I ll tell you how I missed the second goal.
So there I was the goalkeeper, or goalie as we called it back in the day, and my team was all the way
on the other side, I was chilling and relaxing in my goal, talking to my friends on defence, and all of a
sudden, all we heard was:
Oh no.......Defence, DEFENCE!!! .That s when I got alerted, and I even specifically told the defence
in front of me,
Yo watch him, watch him!!
The striker cruised through the defence, crossed them over like it was nothing, and then he came next
to the goal, my heart was in my throat, my palms were sweaty, knees weak arms heavy(literally), and
it felt like the whole thing was in slow motion after that. This is the part where it gets confusing: he
kicked, and I saw the ball come straight at me, and I saw it in complete slow motion to the point where
it was like I could see the words on the ball and then it curved....I was confused, the ball came straight
and curved before I could save it. I tried jumping, and it brushed through the tip of my fingers, hit the
crossbar and went

Essay On Dual Diagnosis
Dual diagnosis a term that is used for someone who has experienced a mental illness and a substance
abuse problem concurrently. It has a broad category. This could range from someone who has
developed a mild depression from binge drinking, to someone having issues of bipolar disorder and
coming more severe when they use heroin during periods of mania. Substance abuse or mental illness
can appear first. When the person experiences a mental health condition they may aim to drugs or

Disadvantages Of New Public Management
Date of Submission: 22 OCT 2015
New Public Management has emerged as a reaction to the exiting bureaucratic model in public
administration in the twentieth century. (Matei L 2006,p. 143)
It reforms the government s external and internal conditions, such as changing policy to management,
from spending to reduce costs. NPM aims at improving effectiveness and efficiency of performance
by a great variety of different organizational, managerial and accounting reforms (Tom Groot, 2004).
NPM implies a new set of values that is largely drawn from market economics and business
management (Denhardt Denhardt, 2015, p.22). It makes good use of private sector and also business
management approaches to reduce public size in which the government resource ... Show more

Meanwhile, government can focus more on policy, regulatory and statutory functions.
Looking over to the disadvantages of NPM in outsourcing, the aspects of social impact and
government image are the main problems to be faced.
Firstly on social impact, the contract workers rights will be exploited since most contractors tend to
put cost reducing as their first priority. In which the welfare of workers will be ignored. Welfare of
workers will be subject to even more severe exploitation if it comes to subcontracting. In long term, it
may lead to worker strikes when the rights of worker suffer for a long time, social harmony and
stability will be undermined.
Secondly, the prestige of government governance will be affected. Since outsourcing is generally goes
to the lowest bid, the outsourced workers are subject to low wages and unreasonable low welfare.
Under the pretext of saving costs, government is actually shirking responsibility and taking lead in the
exploitation of the grass rooted class. Resulting in a large number of workers being exploited,
government is accused of harboring

The Longer Path Of Truth

The Longer Path of Truth So often in life people take shortcuts as a means to obtaining the goals they
seek. Why work toward a Master s degree when a Bachelor s will suffice? Why ask questions about a
particular candidate in an political race when it is easier to choose a party to support? Surely those in
charge know more than we do, so why should we refute them? According to Plato, this attitude
exhibits a lack of education (educare), which leaves a person blind to the truth. The Republic by Plato
clearly defines the overall theme of education (educare) through paideia that is crucial to the
purification (katharsis) of the soul (psyche) by turning the soul (psychagoge) toward the good via the

Only by turning the soul toward the good (psychagoge) can the true and genuine path to knowledge
(episteme) be revealed. Those who rely on the physical (physis) will never recall (anamnesis) the truth
(aletheia) that is hidden on the soul (psyche), thus never educing the psyche s true identity. Education
(paideia) is the pathway for the soul (psyche) to come to knowledge (episteme) with itself and turn
(periagoge) toward the spectacle of truth. In order for anamnesis to take place all parts of the soul─the
appetitive (epithymia), the spirited (thymos), and the rational (nous)─must be unified by justice (dike)
(432a). However, dike is hidden by the narrow mindedness of those who have yet to see the light.
Almost within reach, Justice is clearly somewhere hereabouts, dike requires the detours of the longer
path to make it accessible (432b). The lover of the spectacle of truth knows justices is close by, look
sharp, and call me if you see it first, and feels a deep compulsion within the psyche to search for
justice (dike) through the longer path (432b). Those who follow down that path are warned the
journey will not be easy. The spectacle of truth, while precious and pure, can be a cruel mistress,
pushing the philosopher and his followers down roads less travelled in effort to reveal the good.

The Columbian Exchange Summary
Until the sixteenth century, the experts in that period of time believed that it was impossible to sail
west across from the Atlantic to Asia. By his adventure, Christopher Columbus, an Italian navigator,
proved that they were wrong. However, based on the theory that the earth was a sphere, he thought
that he could reach the East Indies by sailing west. He calculated the distance from Portugal to Asia
was shorter than to Congo. In fact, the real distance from Portugal to Japan was much further, over ten
thousand miles. With his erroneous estimate, he planned a scheme to prove he was right. After several
unsuccessful lobbying in Portugal, Spain, even in England and France, eventually, in 1492, he won

Otherwise, it brought dangerous diseases which killed a lot of the native Americans due to not having
natural immunity. Aside new diseases, the Spanish also carried the resources from the Old World, and
it has changed both natural and human in the Americas. Being different from other European
colonization, the royal Spanish pacified the Indians by Catholic missionaries. In fact, to the natives,
these men were killing their families, taking their lands, and destroying their earth. The conquests
shaped the emerging system of land ownership. The hacienda system developed because
conquistadors fought seeking wealth and land grants. Castas, people of mixed blood, became the

its beginning after discovery, to its end in 1825, the conquests led to

Faulty Reasoning Analysis
There are many different faulty reasonings that I was able to find throughout this specific exercise, but
I will focus on the five noticeable examples that I was able to identify. Example 16 states that I know
three redheads who have terrible tempers, and since Annabel has red hair, I ll bet she has a terrible
temper, to . I do not feel that this is an sound conclusion that this person has made about red headed
people. We see that the person is focusing on induction, taking a small portion of a group and giving a
bias conclusion. This is an obvious illogical reasoning because this person is speaking on the account
of experiences with three red headed people. This is problematic because the person is giving us a bias
observation to conclude that all redheads are indeed the same.
I found another illogical statement in number 6 which states that If Lady Gaga uses Truvia, it must
taste better than Splenda. This is an ad populum fallacy because it does not contain a reason for
believing that Truvia tastes better than Splenda. This is problematic because its reasoning is based off
the preference of a celebrity. We have no evidence in this statement that gives us proper reasoning to
believe that Truvia is better than Splenda. A more appropriate statement would include ... Show more

Edna Pontellier: Her Internal Conflicts
As the main character in Kate Chopin s novel The Awakening, Edna Pontellier experiences strong
internal conflicts that could be influenced by the social standards of the time as well as her close
Creole companions. Throughout the novel we are given a first hand look at how Mrs. Pontellier deals
with these conflicts and in the end, her final decision. Edna Pontellier poses as a double minded
character struggling with the inclination to satisfy her own desires by carrying out an affair that has

Adele Ratignolle is one prominent woman that we meet throughout the novel, she is even introduced
as a friend of Edna making her more likely to have an influence on Edna. Adele is described as the
perfect mother, she cares for her children and is an attentive wife making her a foil for Mademoiselle
Reisz. Adele is admired by most during this time period because she fits the social model that Edna
has so desperately been struggling to fit into. Despite Edna s own passionate desires for independence,
Adele gives her friendly reminders as to why she should be careful when associating with Robert and
even with Mademoiselle Reisz. Adele even goes far enough to warn Robert of Edna s unstableness as
a mother and wife and hopes that he will no longer flirt with her but he disregards her warnings and
the two continue to have feelings for each other. Although Edna knows that Adele should be her true
role model, Edna goes against the grain and while still having respect for Adele decides that she is
meant for something else. This does not mean that Adele did not have any sort of influence on Edna
however, in fact the main reason for Edna s downfall could have been the inner conflict between
following the societal model that Adele held or to follow her passions and inner desires like Reisz did.

The Pueblo Revolt Of 1680
From an evangelical standpoint, the 20,000 Native American Christian converts by 1675 and the
establishment of 36 churches in a new land is progress for the church. However, from a native
perspective, conversion may be seen as a submissive last resort and sad desertion of traditional,
shamanistic beliefs. Priests often destroyed idolatrous statues/buildings that can be viewed as
testaments to years of cultural development of a belief system. (Also, in addition to conversion, they
had to become Spaniard by culture (dress, language, etc.) and therefore give up their native identity.

Imperialism In Kamala Markandaya s Nectar In A Sieve
I will ask Kenny to help you. White men have power. is a quote from the book Nectar in a Sieve by
Kamala Markandaya. The story is set in India during urban development and is about the the marriage
between Rukmani, and a tenant farmer named Nathan. The novel is told in first person by Rukmani, it
starts from her arranged marriage to Nathan at a very young age to the death of him. Rukmani and
Nathan love each other very much and their marriage begins of to a great start until a large tannery is
built in the village near them, it slowly and slowly starts destroying their lives. As the tannery
increases in size, Rukmani and Nathan go through many struggles; such as being able to feed their
children and to pay of their rent. Around this time period, there was also a lot of imperialism
happening in Africa and some other countries like Asia. Britain and a couple other European countries
were trying to take over other countries land because they are more developed and have gone through
the industrial revolution so they are taking advantage of the land for its resources. Imperialism reflects
dominance rather than global progress due to the Europeans implementing tanneries in India and
influencing their economical, social, and political dynamics to wherever they traveled.
The Europeans had a big impact on lives of the indian people, such as using their country for their
land and their resources. The British came into India implementing their tanneries in small villages

Notes On Blue Aspects Of Green Infrastructure
Joshua Chia Design Literature review
Introduction
The topic of this literature review seeks to explore; how can a biophilic approach to blue infrastructure
in urban spaces increase the well being and resilience of a community? A wide range of material was
investigated, from published academic articles to books. This review will not cover the topic of
climate change, case studies or the essence of well being itself, it does explore how landscape
elements might influence our perception of well being. The sources essentially break down the main
topic into separate sections, exploring how they are linked together and providing a coherent
investigation of the topic.
Article 1: Blue aspects of green infrastructure. Sustainable Development Applications
Analysis: Iwona Wagner sheds light on how green spaces in urban areas might adopt a blue
infrastructure approach to improving water balance in the urban landscape. The article opens with a
brief overview of the importance of maintaining water cycles in highly modified environments. It
stresses the integration of ecological processes into water management practices, resulting in design
solutions. Examples include bio filtration systems and retention ponds that purify and retain
stormwater on site. Their aim is to allow local aquifers to recharge and reduce the risk of floods and
drought. (1) In my opinion, this design approach allows landscape architecture to transcend its
ornamental reputation into a medium that encourages

The Long Historical Journey Of Lebanon s Shia Community
Dr. Haytham Mouzahem a Middle Eastern writer describes the long historical journey of Lebanon s
Shia community. The Lebanese Shia s attained global identity in the 1980s, 5 years after Hezbollah
was founded in 1975, with military operations carried out opposing the Israeli occupation in Lebanon,
and the beginning of Hezbollah s relationship with Syria and the Islamic republic of Iran ever since.
According to some historians and Shia scholars in Lebanon and the west, the actual occultation of Shi
ism in Lebanon was incorporated by Abu Dhar Al Ghaffari , a companion of Prophet Muhammad and
also the fifth person to accept the religion of Islam. Abu Dhar moved to Jabal Amel in the south of
Lebanon where he began spreading the religion of Shia Islam where he later died in 652 AD; and that
is why the greater Shia population resides in the southern region of the country .
Additionally, other historians state that the Shia tribe from Hamadan migrating into Syria and Lebanon
increased the Shia population in the country during the time of the Umayyads reign, again creating
Southern Lebanon a important region for the Shia s, later spreading into the North. During the time of
the Crusades 85% of Lebanon consisted of Shia Muslims until Ibn Taymiyyah, a powerful extremist
clergy issued a fatwa to kill the Shia s, after which many died, fled the cities, converted to the religion
of Sunni Islam or Christianity and adopted Taqiyyah , a practice that meant hiding the

The Importance Of Inclusion In Schools
Inclusion is catering for every child s needs, spiritually, academically, and individual situations. It is
valuing and considering all individuals and giving them equal opportunities. Making every individual
feel included within themselves and also groups. All children want to feel like they belong. It is to
endorse the impression that everyone should be freely and happily accommodated without limitations
or restrictions of any kind. So why is inclusion important in diverse classrooms?
Inclusion is important for many reasons. Inclusion gives students opportunities for friendships so they
feel more welcome. It helps the students become more outgoing and opens up their personality and
attitudes. Students learn more effectively without feeling left out or abandoned. They also learn about
empathy and the importance diversity and that everyone is different. Inclusion prepares the students
for adult life, and also different learning environments. Students develop a way that they can
communicate with other students and also students with disabilities. They develop many
communication skills and social skills to use in everyday life. These are just some of the reasons why
inclusion is important.
The UNESCO Salamanca Statement policy includes the approach of inclusive schools by applying
strategic changes. Strengthening their approach to more efficient support in special needs. By
receiving support from teachers, teacher unions and associations and also motivate the community to

Analysis Of Simon Critchley s Article Happy Like God
Happiness is a popular topic that is constantly being discussed by experts around the world. In the
article Happy Like God , written by Simon Critchley, Critchley proposes his view on happiness and its
inability to be measured or found through sources outside of ones self. In another piece written by
Richard Schoch, titled A Crtique of Positive Psychology , Schoch also discusses the topic through a
process of critiquing studies and experiments that claim to have the answer to happiness. Both of these
texts not only make claims that happiness cannot be measured, but they also bring questions to the
table that provide valuable insights on the wrong answers in order for us to find the right ones.

suggests that other pleasures in life can leave emptiness in ones soul that seeks fulfillment through the

believes that we aren t living in the moment, and by doing so we are cutting ourselves short of being
truly happy. In order to find moments where we are self content, Critchley believes that we must break

having children and enter the workforce instead. Also around this time, many women s movements
help change the cultural norms and made it easier for women to be seen in the workforce (Croteau
Hoynes, 2013). However, in the last 40 to 50 years, women have been gradually working into those
male jobs. They are still not making the same as men. In fact Wall indicated women are making only
76.5% of men s [wages] a gender wage gap of 23.5 cents for every dollar earned by the median man
(Kennedy, Nagata, Mushenski, Johnson, 2008). Women have been discriminated in the workforce.
One reason would be the glass Ceiling. The Glass Ceiling is the often invisible barrier created by
individual and institutional sexism that prevents qualified women from advancing to high levels of
leadership and management (Croteau, 2013). This lead to the Glass Ceiling Act. This was research
conducted by the government that would come to a conclusion on how to get rid of barriers that would
let women advance in the workforce. In 1995, the government s research issued a report. (Parcheta,
Kaifi, Khanfar, 2013). It found that ...of Fortune 1000 industrial and Fortune 500 companies...95 to
97% are male. In Fortune 2000 industrial and service companies, 5% of senior

Alex Rodriguez Research Paper
Alex Rodriguez once looked back at his decisions and said, I realized that, you know what, I don t
need any of it, and what I have is enough. ( Rodriguez ) Alex, just like many other athletes all over the
world used performance enhancing drugs. These athletes could have probably done just as well,
maybe even better without the performance enhancing drugs. These drugs that Alex Rodriguez, Tyson
Gay, Lance Armstrong, and Marion Jones were taking have many effects and consequences. There are
many different types of effects that these drugs bring to a person s life life. One of those effects comes
in a social way. Many fans, supporters, friends, and family would be affected as well as their sponsors.
Another way these athletes would be affected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Performance enhancing drugs have affected these athletes in a many different ways, such as letting all
of their fans and people that look up to them down by using the steroids to enhance their performance.
Not only are they hurting themselves, but they are hurting their family, friends, and supporters. All of
these athletes have all had similar negative outcomes. All of these athletes would want to perform to
the best of their ability. In the end, Alex Rodriguez, Lance Armstrong, Tyson Gay, and Marion Jones
careers have all plummeted. Alex Rodriguez got suspended for 162 games, Lance Armstrong has been
banned from all events revolving around road biking, Tyson Gay has been disqualified from the
olympics, and Marion Jones will face jail time. Lance Armstrong once said 4 I would want to change
the man that did those things, maybe not the decision, but the way he acted. The way he treated
people, the way he couldn t stop fighting. It was unacceptable,

Self-Identity Qualities
Identity is defined as the qualities that distinguish one from someone else. Thus, self identity is how
one characterizes themselves as an individual. This may at first seem easy to conclude. One might say
I am me because I look in the mirror and recognize myself. Or, I am me because I possess a mind and
memories unique to me that cannot be replicated by another in the same perspective. However, the
body and the mind undergo constant change throughout life, so how can they be attributed to one s
sameness ? I have arrived at the problem of self identity, what makes one person the same over time? I
assert that in addition to the presence of unique physical and mental substance, in each person is a
constant factor that cannot be altered. I shall show that the problem of self identity is solved with both
the existence of a soul as well as psychological makeup; X is the same as Y so long as X possesses the
same soul, body and consciousness as Y.
Descartes theory of dualism supposes that there are two fundamental substances. The body is an
example of a material substance, as it can be defined by its dimension, shape, movement, and other
extensions. However, an immaterial substance like the mind cannot be defined by such concepts, nor
can it be interpreted from sensory data. Descartes argues that the mind is the soul, as it cannot be
altered by physiological means and ascribes its place in the pineal gland. Though I agree with
Descartes distinguishing of the mind and body, I do

An Avid Bird Photographer Working Towards Marketing My Images
As an avid bird photographer working towards marketing my images, I spend hours scouting locations
and finding good opportunities to produce artistic images that showcase bird behavior and
characteristics. The difficult part about bird photography involves carefully approaching and
photographing subjects without causing unnecessary disturbance, while also creating a powerful
image. Contrary to popular belief, even with a long focal length lens, one must patiently wait or
carefully approach a bird with a low profile in order to make a quality image. Recently with wildlife
photography becoming a more popular and competitive field, individuals have been using ethically
questionable methods to produce high quality images. Methods such as baiting birds of prey and
mammalian predators, deliberately flushing birds for flight shots, approaching animals too closely, and
using flash when photographing nocturnal wildlife are being implemented to produce competitive
work.
The stakeholders involved in this situation are wildlife photographers themselves, publications and
individuals viewing and promoting the work, the wildlife photography industry, conservationists, and
the wildlife and ecosystems themselves. It is important to understand the two general sides of the
issue. On one side are the wildlife photographers, the wildlife photography industry, publications, and
those viewing and promoting work. On the other side are conservationists, and the wildlife and
ecosystems themselves.

  • 2. How Did Himmler Changed History Heinrich Himmler made a significant difference in the course of history during World War II. One example of this is the creation of the S.S., also known as the Security Service. The S.S. gave Himmler almost unlimited power in Germany and led to the deportation of millions of Jews. He also changed history by using propaganda attacks to convince the people Poland had attacked Germany. This gave Hitler a reason to invade Poland, leading to the start of World War II. Finally, Himmler created a system of concentration camps and created the gas chambers used within them. Both led to the death of over six million Jews and other minority groups in Germany and other countries under Nazi rule. Himmler changed history through his actions during World ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hitler, who was impressed by the Dachau concentration camp, authorized Himmler to create an organized system of concentration camps (United States Holocaust Memorial Museum). Himmler expanded the concentration camps all over the country, as shown by the statement, ...the system grew in wartime to include 30 40 main camps and hundreds of subcamps. SS camp authorities would kill around two million prisoners, (United States Holocaust Memorial Museum). Also, Himmler helped create the Final Solution , which would go on to kill millions of Jews across Europe. Hitler trusted Himmler to carry out his plan and implement the mass extermination of the Jews, which had massive impacts throughout the world (United States Holocaust Memorial Museum). After Himmler witnessed a mass shooting of Jews in Minsk, he decided that a more effective way needed to be created in order to prevent his men from PTSD (PBS). This lead to the creation of the gas chambers, which were implemented in Auschwitz and other death camps and were mass murder machines that could kill hundreds of people at a time. • 4. The Study Of Cells From 330 Years Ago The study of cells started about 330 years ago. Before that time cells escaped notice because of their small size. With the invention of the microscope and its subsequent improvement, cells became visible and many new discoveries were made about them. Even today the study of cells reveals more detail, and its secrets, which are in fact the secrets of life itself, are revealed with ever increasing clarity. In 1665, English Scientist and Microscopist Robert Hooke described a honeycomb like network of cellulae (Latin for little storage rooms) in cork slice using his primitive compound microscope. Robert Hooke used the term cells to describe units in plant tissue (thick cell walls could be observed). Of course he saw only cell walls because cork cells are dead and without protoplasm. He drew the cells he saw and also coined the word cell. The word cell is derived from the latin word cellula which means small compartment. Hooke published his findings in his famous work, Micrographia. Hooke anticipated some of the most important discoveries and inventions of his time but failed to carry many of them through to completion. He formulated the theory of planetary motion as a problem in mechanics, and grasped, but did not develop mathematically, the fundamental theory on which the English physicist Sir Isaac Newton formulated the law of gravitation. • 6. Short Story Of Myrtle Wilson VALLEY OF ASHES It was a sweltering night, the air heavy with the tears of God, as Mrs. Myrtle Wilson was struck by the death car. Mrs. Wilson ran out of the Wilson s building, a garage structure for Mr. Wilson s business and the couple s house right on top. Simultaneously, a yellow car, (spectators disagree on the color of the car, and there have not been any confirmations on the true color of the car, however, Mr. Wilson claims to know the kind of car it was), was whizzing past heading back from New York, assumed to be driving at fifty to sixty miles per hour, while Mrs. Wilson ran into the road. In a tragic event, Mrs. Myrtle Wilson was killed instantly, with her left breast left unattached to her body and her red hair tangled with blood, and left for dead as the death car and its owners never stopped and continued on down the road. Mr. Wilson, absolutely distressed, was yelling in exclamations right after the death car s mowing down of his wife. • 7. Communism Of The Vietnam War And The Cold War Communism is an ideology that has a very long history more than one third of the globe. This ideology is followed by Russia, Cuba, Laos, China, North Korea, and Vietnam. This ideology is the source of many revolutions and conflicts throughout the history likes the English Civil War, the Bolshevik Revolution, the Vietnam War, the Korea War and the Cold War. However, what makes Communism different from other ideologies is its origin, its policy, and its effects on the poor and the working class. Communism originated during the Stone Age, at the beginning of our human civilization from the fourth B. C. as primitive Communism . At that point, everyone had an equal amount of work. Then it was later being replaced by monarchy and capitalism. Communism has been mentioned in many books: The Bible, Plato s Republic by Plato, Utopia (1516) by Sir Thomas More, City of the Sun (1623) by Tommaso Campanella. This ideology also led to the English Civil War, a rebellion among the poor class (peasant class) and the dominant class. But later being repressed heavily by the dominant class. After the Industrial Age, the difference between the poor and the wealthy became clearer, which lead to the rise of modern Communism . According to Marx, the Father of modern Communism , he used to say: From each according to his ability, to each according to his need (World History and Cultures). Later on, Marx met Engels. Dichloromethane Lab Report In this experiment, a Friedel Crafts acylation was carried our by reacting acetic anhydride (the acylating agent) and dichloromethane (solvent) with anisole to substitute an acyl group onto the aromatic ring of anisole. Friedel Crafts reaction can be classified as an electrophilic aromatic substitution. This involves an electrophile replacing a hydrogen atom located in the aromatic compounding forming a new carbon carbon double blond. Acylation of a monosubstituted benzene has the opportunity to yield any or all three different disubstituted products. The first step was to weigh 2.93 g of anhydrous AlCl3, which acts as the Lewis acid catalyst. 10 mL dichloromethane was used as the reaction solvent, and 1 mL anisole were stirred in a 50 mL RBF, in an ice bath because the reaction is highly exothermic. Next, the previous measured AlCl3 is added very slowly. Any remaining mixture is washed out with CH2Cl2. 1 mL acetic anhydride, which is the acylating agent, is dropped slowly through the funnel because an exothermic reaction occurs. It is then heated under reflux with a drying tube to exclude moisture from the reaction for 30 minutes to complete the reaction. The warm mixture is now poured over 10 g of ice in a beaker to decompose the aluminum chloride complex of the product and transfer organic salts to the aqueous phase. The product was then allowed to sit at room temperature for one week. The organic layer was then collected and washed with 5 mL 3 M NaOH and 5 mL saturated aqueous NaCl in the second wash. The organic is the bottom layer both times due to the density of the halogen present in the dichloromethane. The CH2Cl2 was then dried using ~1 g of anhydrous MgSO4, a drying agent. Because new land cannot be created, scarcity again comes into effect. This is made apparent through the real estate market. Often times, these Olympic construction projects take the space of what would be housing developments or other building projects. This can cause rents to rise in the city and its surrounding areas. These cities are also likely to experience the effects of crowding out (The Economic Impact 19). Because there is an abundance of people flooding the area and limited space in hotels for them to stay, hotel prices skyrocket. This causes many of the people who would normally come visit the country without the games ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In some cases, citizens of the host city are very opposed to certain aspects of facilities that are built to house the Games. For example, in the Sydney Olympics, the citizens held a very hostile attitude toward the construction of the Bondi Beach Volleyball Stadium. They argued that the development of that facility would close off a popular surfing beach for six months causing them an inconvenience. The people of Sydney also thought that putting an arena on this stretch of beach might cause environmental problems (Cashman 6). The recent Rio Olympics especially stirred up some controversy. The developers of these games built a golf course in a natural reserve, evicted hundreds of families to make way for infrastructure, and even built their press center on a slave burial ground (Coston). These actions are all violations of universal ethical and moral principles. As Catholics, we know that it is our job to care for the environment. When the maker s of the Rio Games, Sydney Game, and any other Games for that matter, build a facility that disrupts a natural reserve or natural habitat of animals, it breaks that teaching. We also know that each and every person is made in God s image and therefore deserves to be treated with respect and dignity. The people that were evicted from their homes or dug up from their graves to allow development were not given that dignity that they deserve. Along with development, the initial bidding process also brings up ethics issues. When a country enters into the bidding process to try to obtain the rights for hosting the Games, local communities often end up being motivated and run by private business interests. This leads to the interests of the citizens of the city not being properly represented. It also leads to the city spending billions of dollars just to have a chance to host the Games, which they may ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Only a small margin of student with disabilities has a goal or even mentions extracurricular activities in their IEP s. With the passing of IDEA in 2006, this allowed students to be more involved with their nondisabled peers within the academic settings but does not cover the after school activities. These activities can be crucial to a student s developmental skills in the long run. In a study done by the National Center for Educational Statistics (1995), they found out that students who participate in nonacademic activities are linked to better outcomes across a number of domains. These domains include but not limited to; shaping recreational pursuits while currently in school and even post graduation, choosing career paths or even giving the students the motivation to complete school, and becoming socially connected to the same extend as their peers without disabilities and providing that psychological adjustment. For those students who may be more severe in their needs, they can benefit from these activities by helping them plan for their future, help them develop essential leadership skills and self determination, allow them to engage with their school communities and sometimes beyond, and develop meaningful, lasting friendships. One self determination skill that is learned by students with and without a disability is self advocacy and leadership. In a study done by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout their stories, both men give great insight to how the harmony of nature impacts their lives in a way that can make them forget about all the sorrow and depression they have following behind them; Wordsworth and Muir s stories include syntax and diction to verbalize their passionate relationship towards nature. William Wordsworth s poem, I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud excellently shows how the power of beauty can changes one s once depressed, sad day into joy and blissfulness. In Wordsworth s story, he exploits his experience of how nature changed his mood of depression and sorrow to grateful and glee when he stumbles across a bed of beautiful golden daffodils dancing in the breeze. Wordsworth writes: A poet could not be but gay, in such a jocund company (stanza 3). In this passage, Wordsworth shows his change of heart when in the presence of something so beautiful and alluring. Wordsworth also shows how nature impacts his mood from the quote: They flash upon the inward eye, and my heart with pleasure fills (stanza 4). Rather than attempting to change this culture, managers must look for elements of the culture that align to the change, bring them to the foreground, and attract the attention of the employees who will be affecting the change. Begin at the top. Effective change management activity starts with the top level managers who agree that change is needed and that are fully supported by the head of the organization. Senior level managers must act as one cohesive and committed team, employees will follow their example. Involve everyone. Change occurs remarkably easier when all levels of employees are included early on in the change process. Employees who are responsible for actually doing the work are the ones in the best position to identify areas where potential pitfalls exists, are in contact with the customers and will know how they may respond to the change, and have the power to make or break the change activity. Why work toward a Master s degree when a Bachelor s will suffice? Why ask questions about a particular candidate in an political race when it is easier to choose a party to support? Surely those in charge know more than we do, so why should we refute them? According to Plato, this attitude exhibits a lack of education (educare), which leaves a person blind to the truth. Those who rely on the physical (physis) will never recall (anamnesis) the truth (aletheia) that is hidden on the soul (psyche), thus never educing the psyche s true identity. Education (paideia) is the pathway for the soul (psyche) to come to knowledge (episteme) with itself and turn (periagoge) toward the spectacle of truth. In order for anamnesis to take place all parts of the soul─the appetitive (epithymia), the spirited (thymos), and the rational (nous)─must be unified by justice (dike) (432a). The lover of the spectacle of truth knows justices is close by, look sharp, and call me if you see it first, and feels a deep compulsion within the psyche to search for justice (dike) through the longer path (432b). The article opens with a brief overview of the importance of maintaining water cycles in highly modified environments. It stresses the integration of ecological processes into water management practices, resulting in design solutions. This may at first seem easy to conclude. One might say I am me because I look in the mirror and recognize myself. Or, I am me because I possess a mind and memories unique to me that cannot be replicated by another in the same perspective. However, the body and the mind undergo constant change throughout life, so how can they be attributed to one s sameness ? I have arrived at the problem of self identity, what makes one person the same over time? I assert that in addition to the presence of unique physical and mental substance, in each person is a constant factor that cannot be altered. I shall show that the problem of self identity is solved with both the existence of a soul as well as psychological makeup; X is the same as Y so long as X possesses the same soul, body and consciousness as Y. Descartes theory of dualism supposes that there are two fundamental substances. The body is an example of a material substance, as it can be defined by its dimension, shape, movement, and other extensions. However, an immaterial substance like the mind cannot be defined by such concepts, nor can it be interpreted from sensory data. An Avid Bird Photographer Working Towards Marketing My Images As an avid bird photographer working towards marketing my images, I spend hours scouting locations and finding good opportunities to produce artistic images that showcase bird behavior and characteristics. The difficult part about bird photography involves carefully approaching and photographing subjects without causing unnecessary disturbance, while also creating a powerful image. Contrary to popular belief, even with a long focal length lens, one must patiently wait or carefully approach a bird with a low profile in order to make a quality image.
