2. High Context Culture
When I think of a culture I think of a group of people from the same region(s) who share similar views
on beliefs, values, and behaviors. For example, Mexican cultures a persons emotional sensitivity is
highly valued as well as their role in society isn t confined to just the workplace (1). Such non verbal
communication Edward T Hall would consider to be a part of a high context language culture, which
is defined as a language in which people state things indirectly and implicitly (2). When compared to
the United States, a low context culture, things are explained direct and clear.
Recently I spoke to my father who was born in 1929; raised in a very traditional Mexican household
whose parents were born and raised in Mexico. My father is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For example, we both talk with our hands and make big movements with them as well as his pitch
went from low to high depending on what he was talking about. When speaking of his childhood he
would use lower tones, a deeper voice, and have a glazed almost distant look in his face; when
speaking of his children and education his pitch would go from deep and low to nostalgic and proud.
According to Halls s theory being from a high context society he should be more reserved, however
much like a low context society my father is more outgoing. Growing up I remember him always
working; working to provide, working to live, working to give my sisters and I a life he never had
growing up. I always wondered why he chose his profession, orthopedics, so I asked him why the
medical field? Why not a teacher or a banker? He told me that he wanted something that as time
passes he will have a job. He did t want a career where he would fear loosing his job, not make
enough to survive, or not be able to provide for his future family at the time (3). My father is a simple
and proud man and much like Hall s theory he was a family man, but focused more on his career.
Edward Hall discovered the differences between cultural influences, and when it comes to the work
place these differences aren t always understood. Although my father and I are from a low context
country, being from a high context

3. How Does Jane Austen Use Consumer Culture In Northanger Abbey
Jane Austen (16 December 1775 18 July 1817) was a famous English novelist, who is eminently
known for her six novels. Those novels, which include Northanger Abbey also, comment upon the
lifestyle, norms, practices, and social existence of British landed gentry towards the end of the 18th
century. Apart from that, her novels show the dependence of young girls on marriage in order to get a
pleasant social place and financial security. In Northanger Abbey, she gives the social image of
different characters and employs different structures such as etiquettes, social behavior, estates, and
preoccupation with consumer culture and fashion to show their place in the hierarchy.
Though there are different themes, which Jane Austen, explores in her novel Northanger Abbey, the
idea of consumer culture in her time and related social culture appealed to me the most. It is a general
habit of Jane Austen that she explores the norms and habits of English society ... Show more content

In Northanger Abbey, Austen has shown that most of the characters value themselves in relation to the
material wealth they possess. In other words, the material wealth becomes a scale for their identity and
social image. Accordingly, Mrs. Allen is always preoccupied with this fear that she might shred her
latest ball gown. In another instance, Isabella constantly compares and contrasts her attire with those
of other women while walking with Catherine. General Tilney is another example of a person who
measures everything according to and for wealth. Even he values people, not because of their innate
qualities but the wealth that person possesses. These examples show that people in Austen s time from
rich class used to live for the sake of the wealth they possessed and accordingly, their sense of self was
affected and grounded in their material wealth and social

represented a modern age. A president who was as charismatic as handsome, was as driven as any
president could possibly be. Jacqueline who added onto his public picture was depicted as royalty and

He found out the CIA was trying to kill (Cuban leader Fidel) Castro, which is a fact. So the argument
is that the CIA felt that Kennedy was going to disband them. And as a result of that, they were the
ones that ordered the killing of Kennedy. Although this has yet to be proven Perry believes it cannot
be ruled out. Others believed the Soviet Union had to do with Kennedy s death. Two direct points lead
to the Soviet Union, one of which was that the US was in the Cold War and that Soviet Premier Nikita
Khrushchev was embarrassed due to the fact he had to back down and remove the nuclear missiles.
The other one is that Harvey Lee Oswald spent a portion of his time in the Soviet Union asking to
become a citizen. As Harvey stated he was a patsy, it is possible he was the scapegoat for Nikita
Khrushchev. The other conspiracy theory that has yet to be debunked and is still highly expected is
whether there was two shooters instead of one. Around the time the president was shot the motorcade

6. ##us The King As A Good Leader In King Oedipus The King
Throughout history, stories, legends, tall tales and such, are molded around leaders that have achieved
astonishing feats of heroism, although through time the great hero makes mistakes that he cannot
undo. Hardships and issues emerge from the depths of evil and mischief; the leader struggles to stay
rational as time goes on, so he begins to use everything in his power to solve the issue. He becomes
fast to temper in arguments on what should be done, he begins to focus on the current state and doesn t
take into account on what may lie ahead, but he can t seem to try and choose what is best. In the Greek
Tragedy, Oedipus Rex, a great leader, King Oedipus struggles to choose what is best and remain
rational so he can be true to his people. Oedipus, attempting to out due his fate set upon him by the
gods makes decisions to sometimes help himself over his people showing him to be ineffective at
leading; however, on the other hand, he tries to be as true as he can to attempt to rid Thebes of a
cursed plague, demonstrating that Oedipus is both a ineffective and effective leader. Oedipus displays
to be a good leader one must understand what his people need and choose decisions that will benefit
Thebes and the people whom live in it. By making decisions he was able to gain the support of the
people and pursues to end the plague ravaging the city. Oedipus constantly seeked answers improve
the city, he found out the reason Thebes was cursed with a plague was due to that they were sheltering
the murderer of Laius, he then responded with a statement to all his people, If any man knows by
whose hand Laius, son Labdacus, met his death, I direct that man to tell me everything. No matter
what he fears for having so long withheld it. (Sophocles 211) Oedipus begs that if anyone knows who
anything even the shortest of statements would suffice his current concern of the situation. What
Oedipus doesn t realize is how dramatically ironic his statement was, he was the one whose hands met
Laius s death, only one man knows the truth. Although, even if any man were aware of what had
happened, Oedipus would not punish the man, he would probably as well reward the man with wealth

Natchez Trace . According to the National Park Service the Trace as it is known greatly supported the
slave trade of the second middle passage. The Natchez Trace was possibly the most recent legal slave
route in North America. From the 1830s through the Civil War, many thousands of bondspeople were

After the resolutions of the Council on the teachings of the dual nature of Christ, Emperor Justinian
confessed his orthodox faith (Albi, 22). During the sixth meeting in Constanople in 680 AD, the
Council proclaimed that Christ has both a human and divine will. This was after Monothelism
continued to be a disturbance in spite of the repressive laws against it by previous emperors.
Monothelism was a new doctrine that emerged among the Armenians and Abyssinians. It taught that
there is only one will in God man Christ. However, the Ecumenical Council condemned Monothelism
and its adherents. The Council held that Christ had two natures with two activities: as God working
miracles, rising from the dead and ascending into heaven and as Man, performing the ordinary acts of
daily life (Thomas, 97). In 692 AD, the Quinesext or Trullan Council was summoned by Justinian II. It
was considered a supplement to the fifth and sixth Ecumenical Council as it issued no canons
pertaining to ecclesiastical government and order. Also, it is viewed as a continuation of all the
preceding Ecumenical Councils as it received and ratified all of their canons and decisions. In
addition, it ratified the eighty five apostolic canons, the canons of local synods, and the most

From the reign of King John beginning in 1199 to the reign of Edward III ending in 1377, the role of
kingship is slowly put in to question. Throughout this time period kings find that they now need to
consult with a council in order rule successfully. This time period begins with an absolute monarchy,
but the authority of the king is gradually limited. These changes slowly grow thought this time period
while the authority of parliament increases. This time period also calls into question how the king is
viewed, whether as a person or as an office. This essay will trace the political authority of the king and
his growing limitations. Additionally, it will discuss the birth of parliament and its increase in political
power not only as a whole, but also in relationship to the power of the king. It is within the reign of
King John, where limitation of the king s power is called into play. These limitations will set the stage
for the eventual formation of parliament and a lessening of the king s influence that future kings
cannot ignore. However, with John, as opposed to these future kings, the changes are relatively
ineffective, but will set incoming limitation to the king s power in motion. These events are triggered
when war breaks out in France as of 1202 when the French King gives John s titles to Arthur, Duke of

Jimmy, and the same with the antagonist. However, if we are going off of the stage directions, it
appears that Jimmy is the protagonist due to his emotional responses being portrayed within the stage
directions. For example, on page seven of the play, Jimmy has a stage direction that says Huge Blow.
But he s tough (Cariani, 7). Except for tone choices, it isn t often that an antagonist has such a clear
description of how the character is feeling, so this is a clue to the concept of Jimmy being the
protagonist. Along with the latter, Jimmy also has to face the obstacles that Sandrine creates to block
him from achieving his goal. The point of attack is the first interaction between Sandrine and Jimmy.
This is initiated when Jimmy notices her coming out of the bathroom in the bar. He s surprised to see
her and wants to talk to her to see how she s doing.
Sandrine, being the antagonist, doesn t want anything to do with Jimmy. She creates the obstacle that
stops Jimmy from achieving his goal, the obstacle being her engagement to another man. However,
her overall goal is to cut her previous ties with Jimmy and return to the normality of her bachelorette
party and new fiancé. At the POA, Sandrine tries to get away from Jimmy,

20. A Study On Micro Cap Investing
Micro cap investing is an increasingly growing topic in today s society. There are many upsides to this
form of investing, but there is also a large downfall. Being a finance major, this topic is an interesting
one to study. This topic is specifically related to finance, although, investing, in general, is something
that does not require a degree to take part in. There is an incredible potential to earn wealth. Micro cap
investing is important in the business field because it is considered the riskiest form of investing, and
micro cap investors are encouraged to judge these companies carefully. This is useful information to

Micro cap investing is an optimal solution to exponentially growing the wealth of one s wallet.
Investopedia said think big is the motto most successful investors live by (Loiacono, 2007).
B. What are micro cap investments?
Micro cap investments are investments made in companies worth $50 million to $300 million ( Micro
Cap , 2003). In simpler terms, these are investments made in companies with small market
capitalizations. Typically, these are start up companies with little to no history, and in turn, this means
the companies have little media on them. Though they have little market capitalization compared to
other larger companies, this does not mean that their stock price is automatically lower. It simply
means that the risk in the investment is much higher. They are often not recognized publicly, and
because of the large risk involved, there is a healthy gap to earn money.
C. How are micro cap stocks traded?
Micro cap stocks are traded through different methods than regular stocks. Because these stocks do
not have the popularity to go through Wall Street or media, these stocks are traded through something
alternative. Most micro cap stocks are traded through a method known as over the counter ( Microcap
Stock: A Guide for Investors , 2013). Over the counter means that it is not run through the national
securities exchange ( Microcap Stock: A Guide for Investors , 2013).

21. Canterbury Tales By Geoffrey Chaucer
Canterbury Tales
Canterbury Tales written by Geoffrey Chaucer was a story of not the people themselves but a social
statement of how the people of higher standing were viewed by the middle class. In the time that
Canterbury Tales was written it was a time of corruption of the Church. There were many clergy
members that were mentioned in this story. Each of the characters was unique in the way they went
against the standards they should be held to. The most interesting this story was definitely The Friar.
The Friar was a man a bit above the monk, he was supposed to dedicate his life to poverty, he was
supposed to be a beggar for the church. As Chaucer writes in his novel the reader knows just because
that was what was supposed to happen, it never actually happened that way. The Friar that Chaucer
introduces his audience to is one that does the opposite of what his duties actually were supposed to
do. All of this being disguised as a good work. When the audience delves into the information Chaucer
provides, there is a realization that the friar may not be the man good works that he is seen as. The
Friar is seen in his sexual, financial with spiritual and social immorality.
Friars are clergy men with the belief of celibacy in their hearts. This is supposed to help the men focus
only on things that were Godly. This Friar in Chaucer s tale, was obviously different, this Friar knew
much about dalliance and sweet talk (Chaucer 211). The word dalliance is a word that is not

22. The Need For Advanced Training and Education Within Unions
Why must education be of top priority in every union? First of all let s take a moment and think back
to when you were an infant. Imagine as an infant you were born with no one to instruct you in your
trial and error learning process. What happens? You have just been set up for failure; and with enough
failures, comes extinction. Ok, now let s bring you back from being an infant and back into the
present. Imagine now you have been a rank and file union member for several years. Your union is
about to hold elections for leadership offices and you decide to run. The votes are counted. You have
been elected business manager of your union. Congratulations! Next week starts the beginning of
contract negotiations and globalization is here. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

they will have to develop Eiger (1979) intellectual power resources, such as; the power of access to
information, the power of generating new ideas, the power of critically examining problems and
creatively formulating alternative solutions. We need to make these resources available to workers on
a scale as never attempted before (p. 38) This is where labor educators come in. Unions need to come
to the realization that education programs need to be solid, the main focus, and at the core of every
union in order to keep the unions from extinction. Unions have many subjects that need to be
continuously taught, trained, studied, and critiqued. Some of these are basic unionism, skill training,
safety, organizing, grievance handling, contract negotiations, health care, political action, benefits,
labor law, as well as others. All these should be taken into consideration at the local and international
levels. Top education programs need to be established to keep rank and file members, as well as
leadership abreast of new innovations and technology and maintain a progressive intellectual
competence. Continued success in collective bargaining, public campaigns, litigation, and political

24. Memory Does Not Work Like A Video Camera
Memory does not work like a video camera, smoothly recording every detail. Instead, memory is more
of a constructive process. We remember the details that we find most important and relevant. Due to
the reconstructive nature of memory, the assimilation of old and new information has the ability to
cause vulnerable memories to become distorted. This is also known as the misinformation effect
(Loftus, 1997). It is not uncommon for individuals to fill in memory gaps with what they assume they
must have experienced. We not only distort memories for events that we have observed, but, we may
also have false memories for events that never occurred at all. False memories are often created by
combing actual memories with suggestions received from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first follow up interview, roughly eighteen percent remembered the false event and in the
second follow up, twenty five percent remembered the false event (Hyman, Husband, Billing 1995).
As this study indicates, memories are more susceptible to modification when the passage of time
allows the original memory to fade. Being lost, however, is not the same as being abused. Another
crucial component involved in the formation of false memories is the imagination inflation. Loftus
(1997) found that the more often an individual imagined an unperformed action, the more likely they
were to later on remember having performed it.
While these studies do not fully exemplify the harmful reality of false memories, they take a step
towards understanding how these false memories might occur in real world settings. As Loftus (1997)
discusses, it is only natural to wonder whether or not this research is applicable to real world situations
such as being interrogated by law officers or in psychotherapy. What researchers have learned, and can
apply to this practical problem is that there are social demands on individuals to remember and come
up with detailed memories. Not only that, but memory construction through suggestion and imagining
events has been shown to be explicitly encouraged when people are having trouble remembering
events (Loftus, 1997). One of the reasons it is important for us to learn about child development

25. Benefits And Benefits Of Temporal Flexibility
Temporal flexibility has been widely applied to firms and more flexible for the advantages or benefits
of both organisations and employees. In terms of benefits that temporal flexibility brings, this essay
focuses on flexible working practices which are mutually beneficial to the employer and the employee
(Brinkley 2013). Nevertheless, as a part of temporal flexibility, flexible working arrangements are put
in an awkward position. It is unjustified to describe them as an improvement for the benefits of the
companies as there is an increasing amount of people who are willing to take those arrangements.
Undeniable, there must be some benefits which are attractive to the employee. Zero hour contract,
which is a new development to temporal flexibility, is controversial for being considered restricted to
organisations benefits.
Basing on introducing varied types of temporal flexibility, this essay mainly discusses how is working
time flexibility mutually beneficial to the employer and the employee. However, the existence of
temporal flexibility cannot only in good side, downsides are analysed to manifest temporal flexibility
thoroughly. The essay is divided into three parts. The first part introduces mutual benefits on flexible
work practices, the second part introduces mutual benefits on flexible work arrangements, and the last
part introduces mutual benefits and conflicts.

26. Solo Sunny Film Analysis
Konrad Wolf and Wolfgang Kohlhaase s 1980 film Solo Sunny follows Renate Krößner as Ingrid
Sunny Sommner living in the German Democratic Republic (GDR) as a young, struggling pop singer.
On a surface level, the film contains many of the common motifs in East German film with a
dramatic, musical plot that involves a working woman s pursuit of happiness. In actuality, the film
manages to subtly deliver an effective critique of the culture of Eastern Germany s socialist political
society, despite being created under the constant threat of state censorship. The first generation of
GDR punks were not prominent until 1979, significantly late in the development of punk as a whole,

While Sonny s passionate pursuit of a career as a singer is central to the plot of the film, it is evident
that she is not being treated equally to her male counterparts within that field. The male members of
the band Sunny performs with, The Tornadoes, incessantly verbally and even sexually harass her. The
first time a member of the band makes an unwanted towards Sunny, he is not blamed for making her
uncomfortable, rather Sunny is seen as at fault for not appeasing his sexual desires. Later in the film
when the same band member violently attempts to rape Sonny, he is not expelled from the band, but
the ensuing tension between the members contributes to the bands decision to kick out Sunny instead.
Beyond the band itself, the man who introduces them onstage during each of their performances
remarks to the audience that Sunny is an up and coming artist, not the youngest but up and coming.
The jibe highlights the fact that even though she is likely no older than anyone else on stage, the
possibility of her advancing in her career is dwindling as she is in a field in which youth and beauty,
especially amongst women, is highly prized. Each of these incidences points to a flaw into the GDR s

27. Harmony with the Environment
The results of data analysis indicated the priority of structure on other mentioned obstacles.
Inappropriate structure may decrease flexibility and may also weaken organizational ability to be in
harmony with the environment especially whenever the organization needs alteration in the strategic
priorities in order to improve its competitive place. Allocation of the highest priority to the structure
may show inefficiency of the efforts of contractual companies managers in order to prepare structural

in the field of contractual works. The inefficiency, may show its effects on decrease in flexibility
against the changes, in the shape of increase in organizational costs, and inability to attract market
opportunities. Among the set of obstacles under study, resources allocation received highest priority
after structure. The negative results of this factor on strategy implementation in contractual company
may refer to its role in decreasing creativity and innovation in organizations. Third priority is
belonging to operational planning. Inability to interpret organization strategy to the operational plans

Despite the different time period there are still things that stay the same, whether it s technology,
education, or culture bits and pieces of history are still here in the modern world. Like, in the
Medicine Bag, even though the tradition was generations old it was still passed down to the males in
the family. Or in the video Apache Girl s Rite of Passage, the ritual was centuries old and yet it was
still used today in the reservation as the transformation from adolescence to adulthood. Inca s ritual
had evolved over time based on something that had changed. In this essay, all the similarities and
differences will be identified in all three rites of passage. This essay also includes the advantages and
disadvantages of text versus video.
There are many similarities among the Lakota, Apache, and Incan coming of age ceremonies for the
boys of the tribe. Each tribe had a ritual that tested the strength and endurance of the boys in their
tribe. Boys in the Lakota tribe, particularly around the age of 11, experience a test of endurance and
strength that requires them to fast, pray, and survive for a bare minimum of twenty four hours, in the
wilderness. By doing so, successfully, they will be fully recognized as a working member of the
community. The Apache tribe also does a test of endurance and strength to help their boys become
strong warriors. The elders of the community tell the boys to run to the top of a mountain and come

Art can be defined as the transference of the author s feelings and emotions into the visual, auditory or
tactile form consisting of paintings, sculptures, music or literature which can be perceived with human
senses. There are many forms of art which were influenced by different time periods, cultures or
geographic regions. One of the oldest forms of visual art that has been practiced across different
continents is the art of sculpture. Historically, sculpture was used mainly for ritual purposes, where the
worshipers gathered around the statues to pay tribute to their deities. Among these sculptures are the
Colossal Statue of Pharaoh and the Marble Statue of Athena Parthenos. They are pieces of art from
two different ancient empires and time periods; however, both these sculptures represented God to

Not many people can say their biggest life lesson was taught by a bus. On October 23, 2015 I was

chance to win a conference championship. The intensity of game day was electrifying even though it
was a humid, sultry, and rainy day we loaded the buses with our earphones in preparing ourselves for
the night ahead. As we were loading up my buddy Jeremy grabbed me on the shoulder and suggested
we sat on the sophomore bus because there would be more room. I agreed even though I despised the
lower class and grabbed the back two seats of the bus. All the way up to this point in my life, I
enjoyed bus rides and enjoyed them ten times more when the reasoning was to go play football. I
enjoyed the calmness and relaxation as much as I enjoyed the jokes, sudden bursts of laughter, and the
intensity I felt when we got closer to the stadium. Before we got to Dequeen there was a pregame
meal at Outback where we filled our bellies with greasy steak patties, loaded baked potatoes, and
some green beans and this always caused someone to go to every table and ask, Anyone got leftovers?
As we ate that day, I surveyed the weather as I looked out the window and noticed the rain to get
heavier and the sky become darker and for some odd reason my stomach began to turn and I didn t

The punishment of criminals in our modern society is most commonly achieved via jail time, fines,
and community service, however, recently some judges are putting into practice the more archaic and
controversial punishment of public shaming. The history of public humiliation is long, but it most
notably played a large role in puritan New England where criminals were routinely sentenced to be
dramatically humiliated by the public as retribution for their crimes. Following the revolutionary war
it steadily became less common as our society began favoring other forms of punishment until the

through the accessibility of simplicity. Churches today must follow Jesus example and seek simplicity.
The individuals that make up a church are builders. These builders have the ability, through Christ, to
define, illustrate, measure, and discuss a ministry blueprint that will help bring clarity to their church s

38. Robert Frost s Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening
Robert Frost s Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening is a poem describing the journey of an
unknown traveler on his way back home. At a certain point during his trip he is passing through the
woods owned by a man who lives in the same village as he does. He decides to stop and savor the
beauty of the woods on this particularly dark winter evening. This darkness, however, goes far beyond
the physical setting in the story and is more fitting perhaps, for the way Frost s traveler feels inside.
Robert Frost s Stopping by Woodson a Snowy Evening contains dark themes associated with death,
which are symbolized by his descriptions of winter, darkness, and feelings of loneliness. The first
symbol that Frost uses to illuminate the dark themes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is very fitting for the speaker to be struggling against the lovely, dark and deep (line 13) woods and
to remember that he has miles to go before he sleep[s] (line15, 16) while thinking about the
difficulties he may be having trying to find a market for his harvest. As he begins to feel disappointed
he finds himself being lost to the beauty of the scene. If it were a bright summer day on which the
speaker is stopping, the sleep he refers to might literally be a short rest, but the poem is set on the
darkest evening of the year (line 8) while the woods fill up with snow, (line 4) and any rest taken in
the woods in these conditions would result in the eternal sleep of death. Sleep is another common
symbol for death, and death is the largest theme in Stopping by Woods as most readers associate the
traveler s perspective on the woods as his own desire to rid himself of the burdens of life. He views
death as an event that would free him from the trials and tribulations of life. He feels like there is no
way to escape the disappointment of informing his family of upcoming struggles due to his failure to
provide for them. The woods however, seem to act as the cradling arms of a mother rocking an
agitated infant to sleep. Every element of the poem works together to create a lullaby effect that calls
the speaker to a dark and deep (line 13) sleep. The gentle imagery of the soft snow and easy wind (line
12), combined with the soft and gentle tone of the

39. How Does Aristotle Contribute To A Starving Child
This paper will discuss the ethical question, if you had the choice of stealing food to give to a starving
child, would you? The question will be discussed from the perspective of three ethical philosophers,
Aristotle, Thomas Aquinas, and Nietzsche.
Aristotle
Aristotle was an ancient Greek philosopher of the 4th century BCE (Anonymous, n.d.). As explained
by Sachs (n.d.), Aristotle believed moral virtue is the only practical road to effective action. Practicing
ethics, for Aristotle, is an active, conscious decision. Each decision should be meditated upon with the
object of creating a virtuous life. Aristotle did not believe in strict, pre determined rules that demand
no thought process behind them. It is true he believed virtue ethics to be a habit, but not an instinctual
one. Aristotle would say choose an action knowingly, out of a stable equilibrium of the soul, and for
its own sake (Sachs, n.d.).
Approached with the quandary of stealing to feed a starving child, Aristotle would reflect upon several

This is because the act of stealing would reflect poorly on his character; it is not a virtuous thing to do.
He said even in cases of urgent necessity, when there is a choice about whom to benefit, one should
first decide whether the scale tips toward the necessary or the beautiful thing (Sachs, n.d.). Feeding the
starving child would be a beautiful act, of course, but in the grand scheme of things it would not be a
lasting one. The child would be hungry again the next day, and if one choose to steal the first day, one
would have to choose to steal every day, thereby marring one s character. I believe Aristotle would
find a long lasting solution to the starving child s situation. He would share his own food, giving
happiness to them both, or he would procure help from another for the child, letting them both share in
the virtue of assisting the less

40. Omnivore s Dilemma Research Paper
But the real question is, now that we ve read it, will we make better, healthier, food choices? The
Omnivore s Dilemma is a very interesting, informative book. In the following paragraphs I will
explain how pure evidence alone won t make much of a difference for most people. I will write about
how family and media can influence your food choices, our society today and how people might think
I m wrong.
The people we spend time around have a big impact on what we eat. Take family, for example, your
parents usually decide what to eat. If your parents read something about what s healthy, then you
might be eating that for dinner next week. I didn t write The Omnivore s Dilemma to convince you to
eat one kind of food or another. Michael Pollan says in The Omnivore s Dilemma. Most food literature
persuades a person to eat a certain way; whether it s vegetarian or omnivore, whether a diet of mostly
grains is good of if starch is bad. My mom read Dr. David Ludwig s book Always Hungry? and was
influenced that fats aren t what makes people fat. His thesis is that it s not about how much you eat, it
s about what you eat, and Americans need to eat more fat and less sugar. My mom has been persuaded
by this book and we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everyone I know, whether they eat there or not, knows that Mcdonald s isn t good for you. There is
plenty of evidence that salt and sugar is bad for you, like some of the information Michael Pollan
wrote in The Omnivore s Dilemma: Four of the top ten diseases that kill Americans are the result of a
bad diet. , yet Americans keep eating outrageous amounts of salty and sugary food. If proof was
enough for Americans we would have run agribusinesses to the ground by now.All we care about is
money. Non organic food is cheaper and easier to take care than organic food, thus organic food is
more expensive at the grocery store causing consumers to buy non organic the cheapest

42. Essay On Sport Burnout
Secondary Research Playing tennis, or any sport, year round at a competitive level is strenuous not
only to a developing athlete s body but to their mind. Because of this mental strain, student athletes
that specialize in a certain sport are often susceptible to a phenomenon called sport burnout. For many
elite athletes, burnout is a constant threat due to the hypercompetitive nature of modern sports. There
are many variables and conditions that can lead to sport burnout, but by identifying and combating
these variables, athletes can stay in top physical and mental condition.
The first step to combating sport burnout is to have a full understanding of what it is and what causes
it. The connotation of the word burnout invokes dramatic images that make it seem extra dramatic.
The media also gives more flare to burnout by producing, sensational accounts of the dramatic demise
of high profile sports stars and the decline of young prodigies who fail to fulfill ... Show more content

Athletes that compete at elite levels train year round, often with few breaks, and don t allow adequate
time for recovery. Also, many sports practice regiments are repetitive and lead to boredom due to lack
of variety. Because of this, a study on social interaction and sport burnout concluded that, Burnout is
the final stage of a continuum of overtraining and staleness and the result of a negative response or
maladaptation to training (Goodger, Gorely, Lavallee, Hardwood). Injuries, strain, and physical
exhaustion from overtraining and overworking student athletes can lead them to quit. Furthermore, the
emotional strain from constant competition and the dullness of repetition can lead to burnout. By
forcing young athletes into training regimens that compromise their physical and emotional health,
coaches and parents are feeding into burnout. However, there are strategies for preventing
