Alexander Graham Bell Essay
Alexander Graham Bell Works Cited Missing The importance of Alexander Graham Bell on today s
society is visible, or rather audible, every day and everywhere. First and foremost, Alexander Graham
Bell was a prolific teacher of the deaf. This is what he considered to be his true life s work, but only
one of the many important things he did. Through his research of speech and sound, and his creative
mind, he would become one of the most influential inventors in modern history. His own definition of
an inventor, A man who looks upon the world and is not contented with things as they are. He wants to
improve whatever he sees, he wants to benefit the world. suits him well. Every thing that he did had
an impact on someone. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Early in 1874 Bell met Thomas A. Watson, a young machinist at a Boston electrical shop. Watson
became Bell s indispensable assistant, bringing to Bell s experiments the crucial ingredient that had
been lacking, his technical expertise in electrical engineering. Together the two men spent endless
hours experimenting (Paschoff 43,44). Although Bell formed the basic concept of the telephone using
a varying but unbroken electric current to transmit the varying sound waves of human speech, in the
summer of 1874, Hubbard insisted that the young inventor focus his efforts on the harmonic telegraph
instead. Bell wanted to continue his work on the telephone but he complied. When he patented one of
his telegraph designs in February 1875, he found that Elisha Gray had patented a multiple telegraph
two days earlier. Greatly discouraged, Bell consulted in Washington with the elderly Joseph Henry,
who urged Bell to pursue his germ of a great invention speech transmission (Grosvenor and Wesson
55). Back in Boston, Bell and Watson continued to work on the harmonic telegraph, but still with the
telephone in mind. By accident on a June day in 1875, an intermittent transmitter produced a steady
current and transmitted sound, when Watson tightened or loosened a particular screw it produced a
sound that would vary in pitch. Bell had proof of his 1874 idea; he quickly

The Architect s Use of Space
The architects use of space Ludvig Mies van Der Rohe s Barcelona Pavilion is one of his most famous
architectural constructions, and was built in 1928 29. As stated earlier the Barcelona Pavilion was built
in Barcelona, Spain as a German national Pavilion for the Barcelona International Exposition of 1929
and the Chaos and Classism art and design show in 1918 1936, which was a reaction to the chaos of
the World War I and contains works that includes painting, film, sculptures, photography and
architecture. It is built form glass, steel and several kinds of marble. After the Pavilion was
disassembled in 1930 after the exhibition closed, the building became a key part not only in the career
of Mies van der Rohe, but also for the rest of the twentieth century architectural world. It was
therefore rebuilt in the 1980s, and was researched, designed and supervised by the architects Ignasi de
Solà Morales, Cristian Cirici Fig.4 Barcelona Pavilion, Barcelona and Fernando Ramos. In the
Barcelona Pavilion, the use of space is based on the simplicity of how a functional space can be
created. Geometry and the use of materials is the key point in this reconstructed space. Mies var der
Rohe s initial thoughts about the materials he used was not so much in novelty as in the ideal mindset
of modernity and that they expressed it through the rigour of their geometry, the precision of the
pieces and the clarity of their assembly. For this project Mies var der Rohe initially rejected the

New Classics of the Horror Film Genre Essay
Dracula. Frankenstein. Godzilla. These monsters no longer strike fear into the hearts of viewers as
they once did. Formerly the villains of the classic monster movie, these relics, who now represent all
that is archaic in horror film history. The monster movie of the past makes way for the thriller or
slasher movie of the present, while the monster villain gives its role to the deranged, psychotic serial
killer. Friday the 13th series, Nightmare on Elm Street, Copycat and Seven have become the new
classics in the genre of the horror film. With films like The People Under the Stairs, Nightmare on

Liver alone. It was a joke. While Stu s friends may not be able to see past the joke s tactless nature to
its humor, I laugh each time Isee the film again.
Not only do the characters not take themselves seriously, they also don t take horror movies seriously.
A day after the first murders take place, Sidney Prescott receives a cryptic phone call. However, she is
not frightened because she believes the caller to be one of her own friends Randy, a movie lover,
calling to harass her. The mysterious caller asks her why she doesn t like horror films and she replies,
What s the point? They re all the same: some stupid killer stalking some big breasted girl who can t
act and is always running up the stairs when she should be going out the front door. It s insulting. As
an audience member, I realize that this skeptical and often accurate view of horror movies is a
message directly from the film s writer and director (Riptov 86).
Later in the film, when Sidney suggests that the killer might still be on the loose, her best friend Tatem
replies, Don t go there, Sid. You re starting to sound like one of those Wes Carpenter flicks. As the
audience, we get a laugh out of this statement because not only do we know that Tatem has misnamed
Wes Craven, we also know this is a Wes Craven flick. These scenes are like inside jokes for the

The Freudian Slip Theory
Introduction
Freudian slip theory was originally created by Sigmund Freud. He was an Austrian neurologist and
was better known as the founder of psychoanalysis (1856 1939). Psychoanalysis can be defined as a
set of psychological theories which includes the Freudian slip theory. He believed that everyone
possess an unconscious mind, feelings, desires and memories in their lifetime. It is to be said that
peoples will bring their unconscious content on their mind to their conscious awareness and people
will be able to experience catharsis and gain insight into their current state of mind. (Cherry, What is
Psychoanalysis?, 2016)
Freud s theory of slips of the tongue and pen Sigmund Freud theory is formed based on peoples brings
the unconscious thoughts to conscious self. Freudian slip is the Hint of the Unconscious. (Cherry,
What is a Freudian Slip?, 2015) A Freudian slip also known as a parapraxis, is an error of speech and
memory or physical action which Freud stated was a result of interference of self own
unconsciousness wish, desire, conflict or train of thought. Freud believed errors of all types were
revealing. It acted like a defense mechanisms and errors come in many varieties. Freudian ... Show

modern idea about how memory retrieval takes place through an intersecting association process.
When interpreting the word potted lies at the intersection of several associations: it starts with the

Physical Activity and Body Weight vs Diabetes and...
Cardiovascular Disease Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the most common and well known
afflictions in modern society. It kills and hospitalizes many people every year. CVD is actually a rather
broad category of affliction. It encompasses any disease or condition that affects the heart. These
conditions have effects that range from mild to surgical repair and even to death in extreme cases. The
causes of CVD are fairly well known. It is directly linked to both physical activity (and the obesity
that it prevents) and body mass index (BMI) in the research that we have studied. The BMI is a
measure of the proportion of the body that is made up of fat. The higher a person s BMI number is, the
more body fat they have. The combination of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the tests performed in this study gauged the effects of body mass index (BMI) and physical
activity on cardiovascular disease (CVD) very well, there is, of course, some information that might
be questioned. First of all, many of the experiments that were carried out involved self administered
questionnaires. Since the subjects that were tested reported on their own physical activity there is a
possibility of error, especially since every individual has his/her own ideas of how to measure physical
activity. In addition, one of the studies tested only women who were already experiencing chest pain.
Although that study suggested that exercise reduced chances of CVD more than BMI, these results
could not be extended to men or asymptomatic individuals. Also, there was not a significant follow up
period after the experiments, so the long term effects cannot be deduced. Lastly, one must consider
that there are several other mechanisms that can contribute to CVD, such as diet and family history.
These factors were not taken into account in this research. Diabetes Diabetes is a disorder of the
metabolism centered mostly around carbohydrate metabolism. A diagnostic precursor is high glucose
blood sugar. Diabetes has three forms or types. The first involves autoimmune destruction of the
insulin (a polypeptide hormone that regulates carbohydrate metabolism) producing cells. The second

Evolution Of Evolution And Genetics
Biologists have been studying evolution and genetics to further advance human knowledge, discover
the human origins, and to eliminate human illnesses. Biologists like Lamark and Darwin have
contributed much knowledge to the biology community and have helped many grasp the idea of
evolution. But there are still many questions left unanswered; regressive evolution is one of these
puzzling questions left unanswered. Cavefishes may help solve the mystery of why regressive
evolution occurs and biologists have developed to hypothesis to explain this mystery. Additionally,
solving this mystery may further the health of the human race to solve eye related diseases.
Lamark s theory of use and disuse proposes that an organism s structure will steadily evolve and adapt
to its environment, but only if it is being used frequently. Using giraffes, Lamark explains that the
constant stretching of their necks to reach for higher leafs on trees caused giraffes to develop their
long necks. Similarly, according to Lamark if a structure is no longer being used, it will slowly vanish
over time. But people are quick to dismiss the use and disuse theory because he mentions that any
characteristics that a parent acquires throughout their lifetime will be passed on to their offspring. This
is known to not be true because a parent who loses a limb would not mean that their offspring would
also be missing that same limb. Additionally, the discovery of DNA disproves Lamark s theory
because it shows DNA

How well do you think the Allied Forces would have done without reliable transport vehicle? Without
the Jeep, Americans during WWII would have struggled in the war because they would not have the
Jeeps durability, their multi purposeful design, and their economically beneficial high capacity

loved the Jeeps. They were very much entertained by them, their uniqueness, the way that civilians
and past soldiers wanted their own Jeep, and there competitiveness strong points in their design. Their
versatility was proven by that most of the Allied Powers were using the Jeep and their multipurposeful

Australia, and New Zealand. The Jeep was very important to defeating the Axis Powers when they
served in the war over in Europe. They were crated and freighted, broken down, and built up,
modified, converted, and moved about on the road, rail, sea, and they could be delivered into landing
zones which gave airborne troops some much needed mobility and their carrying capacity was used
rapidly as needed. The Jeep was used in the rear of the war from towns to military bases to lay
telephone communications, to transport the wounded, mail delivery, the replenishment of supplies, the
evacuation personnel, and as taxis for battle commanders, generals, prime ministers, and presidents.

Hurricane Intervention Paper
South Florida is the southernmost part of the state of Florida and is one of three (3) commonly used
directional regions, the others being central and north Florida. South Florida includes the densely
populated areas of Miami, Florida Keys, among others. Florida and by extension the United States,
have experienced hurricanes dating back to 1900 with Hurricane Galveston and has recorded a myriad
of devastating hurricanes in its history. Hurricanes are not a new phenomenon to South Florida, with
the first devastation occurring in September 1919 killing at least eight hundred (800) people in Key
West. The most recent record was that of Hurricane Andrew in 1992, which was responsible for
twenty three (23) deaths in the United States and $25 billion in damages in South Florida. Despite
South Florida s historical trend, the region has not experienced a major storm in ten (10) years and the
community may be ill prepared to coordinate efforts against a natural disaster.

Throughout ancient times, many names have identified as racial slurs. Most recently, controversy has
surrounded multiple sports teams such as the Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians, and the Washington
Redskins; however, some may believe the Braves and Indians name is more to honor them, instead of
discriminate against them. The conflict of the Washington Redskins seems highest compared to other
teams. This kind of denigration has both visible and unseen consequences for Native Americans

Issue:
Whether a minor child can file for asylum without the consent of a parent or legal guardian?
Rule:
8 U.S.C.A. § 1158 (West 2012) states any alien who is physically present in the United States or who
arrives in the United States (whether or not at a designated port of arrival and including an alien who
is brought to the United States after having been interdicted in international or United States waters),
irrespective of such alien s status, may apply for asylum in accordance with this section or, where
applicable, section 1225(b) of this title.
Analysis:
The main issues before the Court were two fold. First, could a six year old child apply for asylum
without a parent or legal guardian and secondly, did the INS overstep their authority in denying the
application for asylum. Statute 8 USC § 1158 states that any alien could apply for asylum, however,
the INS rejected that a six year old child had the mental capacity to make that decision for himself.
The INS interviewed both the Uncle Lazaro Gonzalez and the father Juan Gonzalez and determined
that the father was the legal guardian, therefore had the right to speak for Elian Gonzalez. Elian s
reasons for seeking asylum were fear of persecution . According to the uncle, if Elian, were returned

Software Testing
Task1.1
Describe the purpose of software testing and provide examples of its commercial effectiveness.
Purpose of Software Testing:
The main purpose of software testing is to ensure that the software package that has been created is

completing the actions and functions that it has been set within the code, although this is the purpose
of software testing, this is not the aim, the aim of software testing is to ensure that all of the functions

the software works smoothly and as elegantly as possible.
Integration Testing:
Integration testing is used to make sure that the software package can be used with subsystems and
other software packages sharing data and or converting information between multiple sub systems, as
well as verifying that they can be used together with other packages and the parameters which are
passed between them can and are handled correctly.
Regression Testing:
Regression Testing is used to retest the sub systems /units/modules and also help ensure that any

How Is The Devil s Character Different From The Novel
In the novel An Ungodly child by Rachel green, the Devil s personality and appearance is seen to be
different as Green imbibes satire into biblical stories. The word Satan has been used more as an
identifying noun than a title in recent times. Christians generally recognize Satan as an adversary, an
opponent, or an accuser. However, many of the norms surrounding the description of his character are
not present in this novel. The story of the red ugly guy with horns, a tail, red fiery eyes and a trident
becomes a handsome ebony black man dressed in a conservative business suit and...Cuban heeled
boots (Green 285). This novel does not completely support the traditional beliefs of the Devil which is
that he kills, steals and destroys. Historical conceptions of Satan are different from the novel because
the novel implies that all supernatural creatures are not completely holy or completely evil but are
subject to free will and the ability to choose between good and evil.

Essay on Pro Salary Cap
Pro Salary Cap According to Dan Oleary, Since baseball is the only major sport without a salary cap,
and with the way baseball s big spending teams throw around money, having a different winner each
year seems to defy logic (OLeary). A salary cap is issued in every professional sport s franchise,
excluding Major League Baseball. With no salary cap, one club can dominate it s competition on
money alone. The New York Yankees spend the most money on it s players each year (Goldman). It is

The Yankees have always been a powerful team regardless of the money . According to Wikipedia,
The New York Yankees signed Babe Ruth from the Boston Red Sox after the 1919 season, appeared in
their first World Series two years later in 1921, and became frequent participants thereafter (Wikipedia
World Series). Between 1947 and 1964 the New York Yankees won the world series fifteen times in
just eighteen years (Wikipedia World Series). The dynasty was in it s prime during that time. The
Yankees have won the series a total of twenty seven times, most recently just last year in 2009
(Wikipedia World Series). They have also have forty world series appearances, the closest in
comparison to baseball s favorite team is the St. Louis Cardinals with seventeen appearances. When a
team has dominated the rest by over twice the appearances in the World Series, something is wrong.
The purpose of the salary cap would not only be to stimulate competition in both the National and
American leagues, but to give the spotlight to other teams for a change. In the end, if a salary cap is
not issued, these results will continue and baseball will eventually fail. A lot of controversy regarding

Justice In Plato s The Republic Essay
Justice In Plato s The Republic
Ralph Waldo Emerson once wrote One man s justice is another s injustice. This statement quite
adequately describes the relation between definitions of justice presented by Polemarchus and
Thrasymachus in Book I of the Republic. Polemarchus initially asserts that justice is to give to each
what is owed (Republic 331d), a definition he picked up from Simonides. Then, through the
unrelenting questioning of Socrates, Polemarchus definition evolves into doing good to friends and
harm to enemies (Republic 332d), but this definition proves insufficient to Socrates also. Eventually,
the two agree that it is never just to harm anyone (Republic 335d). This definition is fundamental to
the idea of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although he leaves no room for the common good in his definition, his life seems to allow for some
common good. This is based on his profession as an educator, whose job it is to share knowledge with
others and on his willingness to remain a contributing part of the discussion going on at the house of
Polemarchus
To determine which of these two definitions gives a better account of the good life it is necessary to
establish what this good life is. According to Socrates in the Apology it is the greatest good for a man
to discuss virtue every day ... for the unexamined life is not worth living (38d). What this statement
implies is that to live a good life we must first question and ponder our own ideas of a good life and
then do the same with other peoples ideas. In this sense Polemarchus s definition of justice most
closely fits the good life because he allows for a common good that would result from examining the
ideas of others and the sharing of information.
To further display that Polemarchus definition of justice gives a better account of the good life I put
forth my own definition of the good life . I have come to conclude through the lessons life has taught
me thus far that the good life is one composed of love and understanding. Love of one s self because
with this I can maintain a sound mind and body, but without it I cannot love others. Love of family

Cell Theory Evolution
Biologists use the ideas of cell theory, hereditary and genetics, and evolution through natural selection
in many different ways. While being very different areas of study, they all share a core idea. This idea
is that cells duplicate, and sometimes experience random mutations. From this very basic idea,
scientists can theorize that all life on earth came from one or a few very simple cells, and are related
through this. But the diversity of life today also shows how these related cell groups evolved and
changed.
Cell theory is the scientific knowledge that cells can only come from other cells. Years ago, when the
idea of spontaneous generation was disproved, a new theory came into play and allowed scientists to
learn that cells split and duplicate, sometimes experiencing random genetic mutations. This led to the
question: if all cells come from other cells, then where did the very first cell come from? Some
scientists believe that perhaps spontaneous generation happened once, billions of years ago, to start
the chain of life. Others theorize that the first cells came from an asteroid from another planet. The
first cells split and grew and split and grew, until they started to mutate and ... Show more content on

Mexicans, Chicanos, Mexican Americans
Mexicans, Chicanos, Mexican Americans, Indigenous, and more are just a few of the terms used to
refer to people of Mexican descent. Many Hispanics attempt to enter the United States in search of a
better life and to have an enjoyable way of life. However, living in constant fear of being deported and
consistently being judged simply because of one s color, or the inability to communicate in English;
that does not sound like the American dream. Typically, people have real reasons to emigrate to the
United States, and it is in great part due to necessity. Most people have families they leave behind
because they need money in order to survive and have food on the table every day, they see the United
States as the solution to their problem. On another note, the 1960 s movements emerged during the
Civil Rights era, in order to earn justice and rights for Mexican Americans in the United States. After
years of being ignored, Mexicans decided to take a stand through the help of activists, hoping to attain
victories for the Chicano community. Overall, after constant oppression, Chicanos fought back all the
harsh treatment through the Chicano Movement arguing for a broad section of issues; however,
nowadays many racial problems continue to exist, such as SB 1070 and HB 2281, which were
polemical bills classified as racial attacks; they were directly aimed towards Mexicans. The Chicano

The Abolition of Capital Punishment in Australia
Since the last execution in Australia in 1967 of Ronald Ryan and the abolition of capital punishment in
Australia in 1973 imprisonment has been the only option as a sanction for murder. A survey conducted
in 2009 demonstrated that a clear majority of Australians (64%) believed that imprisonment should be
the punishment for murder as opposed to 23% stating the death penalty should be used and 13% did
not wish to comment. The death penalty is not an effective punishment for all cases and there has not
been any solid evidence stating that it is a more effective deterrent than imprisonment. Furthermore
capital punishment possesses the risk of executing the innocent, which has happened or almost
happened numerous times in the past such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, implementing capital punishment is much more expensive than life imprisonment. In a
government with capital punishment, both the trial and appeal process are much more expensive in
comparison to noncapital cases as the trials are generally longer and more complex. Australian
lawyers estimate that a single capital punishment case could cost taxpayers around $5.5 million while
life imprisonment approximately costs $1.5 million.2 Saving money should not be an argument in
retaining capital punishment. If Australia re instated capital punishment, Federal and State taxes would
need to be increased, all community services would be drastically cut, more hidden taxes would be
introduced and finally all essential services and local government costs would also increase. This
exemplifies how life imprisonment should be the only option for offences as it not only costs millions
less, it also still ensures that the public is protected and the money saved could be spent on programs
that actually improve the communities in which we live. This highlights how international
jurisdictions for various reasons should, in majority of cases, follow Australia s example and abolish
capital punishment for murder and all crimes, however in some cases including repeat offenders such
as Peter Dupas capital punishment could be a more effective punishment.
Although in majority of cases capital punishment should not be an option worldwide, some offenders
have too high of a chance

The Prevalence Of Gestational Diabetes
According to the American Diabetes Association, the prevalence of gestational diabetes is as high as
9.2% in pregnant women due to obesity or being overweight. Not only can it be harmful to the mother,
but it can also be harmful to her baby. Gestational diabetes can increase the chances of pregnant
women delivering a baby that weighs more than 9 pounds. Having gestational diabetes can also
increase the mother s chance for needing a cesarean section delivery. Some other risk factors that the
mother can be a candidate for developing gestational diabetes by is having a family history of diabetes
(especially if a parent or sibling has diabetes) and having gestational diabetes in previous pregnancies.
Pregnant women don t need to have had diabetes before in order to develop gestational diabetes. They
can just have high blood glucose levels during pregnancy to get gestational diabetes. There is a
process in which the baby has to go through inside their mother s womb. The placenta is what
supports the baby as it grows. Hormones from the placenta help the baby develop. But these hormones
also block the action of the mother s insulin in her body. This problem is called insulin resistance.
Insulin resistance makes it hard for the mother s body to use insulin. She may need up to three times
as much insulin. Gestational diabetes starts when your body is not able to make and use all the insulin
it needs for pregnancy. Without enough insulin, glucose cannot leave the blood and be

Penny Stock Trading Essay
As you probably already know, penny stock investing is very risky. In fact, it is probably the most
dangerous investing method of all. And it is also very profitable. Nothing beats being an owner of a
stock, whose share price went from $0.12 to $22 in a few weeks. But not every penny stock trading is
the same. There are as many techniques as there are investors, though we can identify three major
strategies that are the most common. You definitely should consider choosing one of them, and then
refining it further to match your trading style.
1. Cheap Stocks On Major Stock Exchanges
By common definition the shares of penny stocks are trading below $5. There are really many stocks
like that on major stock exchanges, like the New York Stock ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net
...
2. Stocks On Over The Counter Markets and Pink Sheets
On over the counter (OTC) markets and Pink Sheets you won t find companies that were once big but
have fallen from grace. These penny stocks are usually really small startups with a share price below
$1. There are thousands of them, and you cannot ignore the research necessary to filter out those 95%
of them which are useless. OTC penny stocks have other kinds of risks altogether.
They are extremely illiquid. Not many shares are traded daily, so if you buy a stock on an OTC
market, later you may find yourself in a position that you simply cannot sell it for profit, because of
the low volume and a large spread between the bid and the ask price. You won t be able to find a
buyer.
The other risk is that the great majority of stocks on OTC markets are really low quality, junk stocks,
and only a few of them are worth further research. Knowing how to find the good ones is the key
point.
3. Ride The Pump And Dump
This is unquestionably the most dangerous strategy. Penny stock trading gets all the bad press
primarily because of the pump and dump schemes.
Pump and dump is a very common and unethical (even criminal) activity where scammers buy up the
majority of shares of a low quality OTC penny stock, and then they promote it heavily, so that gullible
investors buy the stock too, thereby driving up the share price. When the share price has rocketed, the
fraudsters simply

Differences Between Confucianism And Confucianism
All of these different systems and philosophies highly emphasize: the harmony between people, the
benevolence that one must have, filial piety, loyalty, righteousness, and courtesy for a successful and
healthy society. Even though they all have a different idea, their goal is the same. The morality and
ethics of human behaviors were also part of the teachings that shaped the culture of today. Even
though the goals of these philosophies were similar, like their beliefs about man and society; their
ideas were a little bit different and each had their own focus. The difference in focus between
Confucianism and Taoism is that Confucianism was focused on having a structured society. It held as
a principle the brotherhood of humanity. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Tao is the unknown, powerful force to which the whole world and universe flows. It is the
ultimate reality and that everything is one despite the differences in appearances. They believed that
life is good, there was an emphasis on the body, and the goal was to gain balance in life. They had a
good view on women. They were generally equal to men and highly spoken of in the teachings.
Taoism believes in the concept of the Yin and the Yang. This concept is that two halves, two opposites,
make a whole. It is a balance, equilibrium of wholeness. The Yin is the dark side, while the Yang is the
light side. We can see this balance every day in life. Like the day and the night, a man and a woman.
There cannot be one without the other. Absence of light creates darkness; absence of heat makes it
cold. When there are beautiful things, the ugly ones come out. And when there is good, there is also
bad. One thing defines and complements the other. They coexist by opposing each other. Yet, nothing
is completely Yang and nothing is completely Yin. One is the starting point of the other. They are
interdependent to be complete. When one increases, the other one decreases. This is how they
maintain the overall balance.
Mohism, on the other hand, was rival to Confucianism and Daoism. He was too liberal to agree to all
the social rules that Confucius had created. He did not agree either with the importance of tradition or
rituals of Confucianism.

Unconditional Faith In Night By Elie Wiesel
Elie Wiesel published Night in 1955. This book is his testimony to the awful situations he and millions
of others had to encounter. Eliezer is a devout Jew at a young age. His conviction is flipped upside
down when the Nazis enter his life, and he believes God walked out. He does not understand God s
calmness during this tragedy. He demands answers but is met with silence. In Night, Wiesel uses
Eliezer to depict how his unconditional faith is shaken down to nonexistence during the Holocaust.

Seeing his fellow Jews executed makes Eliezer feel his God died with them: Never shall I forget those
moments that murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams to ashes (Wiesel 34). Eliezer s
own personal hell is eliminating all of what he stood for. While other prisoners talk about God, Eliezer
turns his cheek: As for me, I had ceased to pray... I was not denying His existence, but I doubted his
absolute justice (Wiesel 45). He does not question God s entity, but he does His morals. He thinks why
pray when no one is listening. During one of the hangings, another prisoner inquires about God s
presence. Eliezer thinks to himself, Where He is? This is where hanging here from this gallows

total absence or death. It is about humanity ... committing against one another, about the Jew and
Israel s suffering (100). Eliezer needs to target his anger toward the ones carrying out the inhuman
acts. God will sometimes answer prayers in ways that are not seen. He will not always respond to one
s terms but to His own. That does not mean He is not there. God needs to know one has complete trust

Peter Singer Equality
In All Animals Are Equal, Peter Singer argues that any being with sentience should be granted equal
moral consideration on the basis of the concept of equality and the principle of equal consideration of
interests. In this paper, I will reconstruct Singer s argument and explain the premises on how he came
to this conclusion. To begin with, Singer defines sentience as the capacity to suffer or experience
enjoyment or happiness (Singer 53). Singer states that if a being is not capable of suffering, or of
experiencing enjoyment or happiness, there is nothing to be taken into account... This is why the limit
of sentience... is the only defensible boundary of concern for the interests of other (Singer 50).
Firstly, Singer claims that we should understand the concept of equality as a reason for accepting the
conclusion of his argument. What he means by this is that the concept of equality is a moral ideal and
not a simple assertion of fact (Singer 52). In other words, when we say that all human beings are
equal, we do not assert that they are in fact equal in intelligence, moral capacity, physical strength, or
similar matters of fact. Instead, we assert that they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That is to say, for any being that has interests, these interests must be taken as equally morally
important with similar interests of another being. However, Singer notes that equal consideration of
interests does not imply identical treatment. Instead, Singer argues that the principle of equality is
equality of equal consideration for different beings may lead to different treatment and rights (Singer
50). Extending to nonhuman animals the same moral consideration we extend to human beings means
that we give the interests of nonhuman animals the same weight as comparable interests of human
beings (Singer

How Did The Second World War Affect The Development Of
How did the Second World War affect the development of Japan? Introduction The Second World War
was the bloodiest conflict in the history of humanity. It has largely affected the evolution of many
nations throughout the whole globe. This essay focuses on the impact of World War II on the vector of
development of Japanese state. In this paper, I will argue that the war had a huge effect on Japan and
that it has fundamentally changed the future of the Asian state in a positive direction. My essay will be
structured in the following way. Firstly, I will outline the main aftermaths of the Second World War for
Japan. Secondly, I will explain how the results of the war had changed the economic system of Japan.
Thirdly, I will show that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, in my view, Cohen has underestimated the benefits that economic concentration on military,
brought to the postwar Japanese economic development. In accordance with John Dower, during the
war period, there was a huge increase in the production of machinery (252%), nonferrous metals
(70%), steel (46%) and manufacturing (24%), which was extremely beneficial for the after war
economic growth. Personally, I assume that Dower was right and without the rapid increase in these
industries, Japan would not be able to achieve its postwar economic prosperity. A good verification of
this argument is that after the war was over, many of the wartime companies (Toyota, Nissan,
Normura Securities, Toshiba) were successfully transformed into peaceful and prosperous commercial
corporations, which exist even today. Kenneth Pyle argues (?) that nationalistic and military goals of
these companies were quickly replaced by commercial aims gun factories started to make sewing
machines and optical vehicle manufactories began to produce cameras . The Occupation of Japan,
which was the result of Japan s lose in the World War, was destined to change the economy of the state
and turn it into a western style prosperous country. From the beginning of the occupation, the USA
was sending large sums of money in food aid because many people were dying from hunger.
However, as a result of US economic assistance and

Triumph Of The Nerd Essay
Is it selfishness or a devotion to make the world a better place that is driving computer innovations?
For a short while, Imagine that you just have a unique tool with you, which no one in this world
possesses. This tool is specified that it can change the situation of the whole world and mankind
forever. If somebody asks you that, what you are going to do with this tool? Can you share this with
others? Or will you retain it with you. So that you ll build billions out of it! Isn t it fascinating?
Depending on one s inclination and angle he could select either of those. Somebody can munificently
share it with others so as to serve and facilitate whereas others entangled in their greediness could
build cash out of it! The Triumph of the Nerds is one in every of the foremost necessary chapters in
human history. It has affected the daily life of an individual s today...and clearly, for the years and
centuries to come. The existence of the individuals has been transformed at the speed of an avalanche.
It created a new dimension to discover and to explore. It leads our lives in another portal of world.
History is filled with examples where individuals interchanged their views and what they thought of.
With their temperament to share the vision and a deep want to improve and alter the surrounding has
created them the captains of the contemporary information technology. Current technology owes its
success to those nerds. Ed Roberts the primary person to form computer designed it

Fate In W. W Jacobs The Monkey s Paw
The Monkey s Paw, a short story written by W.W Jacobs, has concepts that relate to a common theme:
fate. One of the main themes in the story is fate, but another theme is don t mess with fate. Throughout
the story The Monkey s Paw, there are instances of fate, and what happens when you mess with fate.
An example in the story that relates to fate is when Mr. and Mrs. White mess with fate when they wish
for 200 pounds. Another example is when they wish for Herbert to come back to life and then they
wish for him to leave again. Really anytime the paw is used, it s messing with fate.
There are multiple examples of foreshadowing in story the Monkey s Paw. The example I am
choosing is at the beginning of the story when the father and son are playing

Arguments Against Nuclear Waste
Individually, they re no larger than your pinkie, but the energy packed pellets that are the radioactive
remains of nuclear power generation pose an enormous problem for nuclear energy plants that weren t
originally designed to store them. So far the 103 operating nuclear reactors in the United States have
generated an estimated 45,000 tons of waste that is expected to remain radioactive for more than
200,000 years (Onion, 2016). And right now, the waste, which emits radioactive particles that can eat
away at human tissue and organs, is being stored in tanks or concrete and steel bunkers at sites that
were only meant to contain the waste for perhaps decades, not centuries. Spent fuel is now stored in
pools and dry casks, says Rodney Ewing, a professor in nuclear engineering at the University of
Michigan. Today it s safe. But it s certainly not a long term solution (Ewing, 2015). ... Show more

Some argue the lack of a permanent, safe storage site for nuclear waste is reason enough to oppose
proposals in President Bush s energy plan to speed licensing of new nuclear power plants and extend
the operating licenses of existing plants. As Allison Macfarlane, a geologist and senior researcher at
the Massachusetts Institute of Technology says, Until we can figure out what to do with the waste, we
shouldn t make any more of it (Macfarlane, 2015). But those who tout the economic and
environmental benefits of nuclear energy argue a safe, permanent storage site has already been found
and only politics has prevented its opening. Others point to changing methods of nuclear power
generation that could ultimately reduce waste

Lee Lead The Army Of Northern Virginia
Lee lead the Army of Northern Virginia across to Potomac in Maryland in August of 1862. Reasons
for this invasion included taking pressure off the Shenandoah Valley The Breadbasket of the
Confederacy at harvest time; encouraging European support for Confederacy by winning a battle on
northern soil; and demoralizing Northerners to reduce their support for the war while encouraging the
salve holding state of Maryland to secede and join the Confederacy. Lee daringly divided his own
army and sent groups to capture objectives. On September 9, he issued Order No. 191 in which he
informed commanders of objectives and routes. Union soldiers of the 27th Indiana Regiment noticed a
bundle of cigars discarded on the ground in a field. Upon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Late afternoon on September 16th, McClellan ordered Maj. Gen. Joseph Hooker s I Corps to
investigate the enemy across the creek. Brig. Gen. George G. Meade s troops attacked Brig. Gen. John
Bell Hood s men on the East Woods, causing a minor scuffle. McClellan planned out his attack as
artillery fire rang through the night. He decided to focus the strength of his force on East Woods to
overwhelm the left flank. Unfortunately, because of his order for Hooker s probing, it gave Lee a
strong indication of his intentions. McClellan did not thouroughly communicate the plans of attack to
his subordinate commanders. Instead, he gave directions for each of their corps, not including the
entirety of the plan. Due to the lack of information, commanders could not easily oversee happening
outside of their sector. This lack of proper coordination gave two consequences. First, the Unions
advantage of size, two to one, became less of an benefit as they were not as controlled as the
Confederacy. Second, the Battle of Antietam ranged between three phases in the coming day: a
Morning Phase, a Midday Phase, and an Afternoon Phase.

The Battle of Antietam began approximately 5:30am on September 17, 1862. Maj. Gen. Joseph
Hooker s men began their march towards the Church of Baptist Brethren, located between Hagerstown

Battle Of Antietam Research Paper
In 1862, the Maryland Campaign ushered a violent battle upon the Antietam Creek. As the first
prominent act of savagery in the American Civil War, this battle produced over twenty thousand
casualties (National Park 1). Additionally, it revealed the political significance of the American Civil
War. Upon its conclusion, the Confederate Army ceased the invasion of the north and Abraham
Lincoln issued the original Emancipation Proclamation. Undoubtedly, the Battle of Antietam decided
the fate of the American Civil War and rendered the abolition of slavery (Marx 20).
On September third of 1862, General Robert E. Lee commanded the Confederate Army of Northern
Virginia to enter the state of Maryland. Lee s army was emboldened with pride, ... Show more content

Lee s army. Union soldier, Joseph E. Hooker, initiated an attack on the Hagerstown Turnpike (Ballard
25). At dawn, Joseph Hooker led approximately 8,600 men to battle. However, Hooker stopped the
infantry unit upon noticing that the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia concealed a range of
bayonets in a cornfield (Ballard 30). Thus, a fiery battle erupted along the Antietam Creek. Soldiers
beat their fellow man with rifle butts and pierced their bodies with bayonets. Additionally, The Dunker
Church at Antietam became a bloody remembrance of the battle (Ballard 40). By midday, the town
was covered with the carnage of Union and Confederate soldiers. A sunken street, known as Bloody
Lane, was emblazoned with the bloodshed of 5,600 casualties. On the evening of September
seventeenth, the battle had concluded. According to historians, the Battle of Antietam yielded more
casualties than any other day in the history of the nation s military. Specifically, over twenty thousand
casualties were accounted for. However, President Abraham Lincoln expressed disappointment in
General George B. McClellan s military performance during the Battle of Antietam. For example, he
stated that a rationalist mindset that permeated McClellan s strategic acts led him to miss a great
chance to destroy Lee s army (Lincoln 19). Furthermore, Lincoln grew increasingly disenchanted with
McLellan s militant skills as he declined to attack General Lee along the Potomac River. On
November seventh of 1862, President Lincoln dismissed General McClellan from the Army of the
Potomac and the Maryland Campaign was dissolved. Consequently, the Battle of Antietam was
strategically deemed a Union

WWII and the Road to Midway Essay
World War Two came to America on December 7th, 1941. The focus on America s involvement in the
war generally focuses on the European front. What must be remembered is the time and sacrifices
made in the Pacific theatre. America s entry into the war on the Pacific was not an immediate success.
It took American forces until the summer of 1942 at the Battle of Midway to become properly
prepared for the war. The American military learned much from their losses both through the strengths
of the Japanese forces and America s own faults. After these losses were realized, changes were made
within the military. These improvements allowed the American forces to turn the war back and begin
to have successes in the Pacific. Pearl Harbour ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another aspect of the Japanese success was powerful and effective tactics. Tactics include the training
of the Japanese soldiers and their objectives in battle. Japanese soldiers were trained to die honourable
to fight to the death and never be taken prisoner3. Training the soldiers to fight this way was not only
traditionally Japanese, but it inspired them to continue fighting beyond what would be seen as a
reasonable time. This sincere dedication to defending their people and Emperor (the cause of this
training) allowed the Japanese soldiers to be effective killers even when faced with undeniable
defeat4. Beyond their training, the Japanese had other advantages in their battle objectives. The use of
radar was essential to the Americans, and so the Japanese were often ordered to target the radar
stations on islands before beginning full assaults5. Targeting the radar stations prevented the
Americans from properly estimating the Japanese forces or from knowing where they were headed.
The final tactical advantage the Japanese had was that their air force consisted of small experienced
squads especially for important missions6. Having been involved in a number of minor wars in east
Asia in the 1930s, Japanese forces were far more experienced; this lead to a much greater
effectiveness than the inexperienced Americans. Technologically, Japan was also ahead of America at
the outset of the war. This, partially, is due to experience and having been

The Advantages Of Teaching Technology And The Benefits Of...
Benefits of Technology Children today are impacted by technology; some people believe that
technology can be beneficial in a child s life and others are strictly against it. Though, everyone is
accustomed to their own beliefs when it comes to raising a child, and how they want their child to be
educated. The main argument is should children or adults be involved with technology, and if so how
much technology should they encounter within the day? There is a wide variety of educational and
non educational resources that technology offers to teachers, parents, and students, in moderation
these resources can be beneficial to people educationally and socially. Schools today are trying their
best to stay up to date with the latest and greatest technology, from Smart Boards to lending each
student their own laptop or iPad. In the classroom teachers use the technology within their lesson
plans, but when planning they should make sure that the programs that they include will engage
students, and will also involve interaction between the students and program (Stošić, L). Incorporating
technology in the classroom is a great educational tool for teachers to use as part of their teaching
methods. While including educational technology methods in the classroom it will enhance students
learning skills and their cognitive characteristic (Stošić, L). With the right teaching methods and
reliable educational interactive learning programs, students are more excited and motivated about
learning, because of the involvement of today s modern technology. Outside of school, parents have
the option to entertain and at the same time educate their children by using technology. There are some
apps intended for kindergarten through twelfth grade, that parents can download to their device and
can be used for educational purposes. Most of the educational apps support the single person use of
interactive learning materials, simulations and learning games (Leinonen, T). Since apps include
multiple games to get children engaged in different educational lessons, they are more likely to retain
more knowledge of the content being taught. Educational apps are a great source for reviewing what
they child has learned or is learning in

Strengths And Weaknesss Of Case Studies
X. DATAANALYSIS
As the information is collected, researchers strive to make sense of their data. Generally, researchers
interpret their data in one of two ways: holistically or through coding. Holistic analysis does not
attempt to break the evidence into parts, but rather to draw conclusions based on the text as a whole.
Flower and Hayes (1981), for example, make inferences from entire sections of their students
protocols, rather than searching through the transcripts to look for isolatable characteristics.
However, composition researchers commonly interpret their data by coding that is by systematically
searching data to identify and/or categorize specific observable actions or characteristics. These
observable actions then become the key ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

10.3. Strengths and Weaknesses of Case Studies
Most case study advocates point out that case studies produce much more detailed information than
what is available through a statistical analysis. Advocates will also hold that while statistical methods
might be able to deal with situations where behavior is homogeneous and routine, case studies are
needed to deal with creativity, innovation, and context. Detractors argue that case studies are difficult
to generalize because of inherent subjectivity and because they are based on qualitative subjective
data, generalizable only to a particular context.
10.3.1Strengths Flexibility
The case study has the potential to engage participant in the research process. This is both a political
and epistemological points. It singles a potential shift in the power base of who controls knowledge
and recognizes the importance of co construction perceived reality through the relationship and joint
understandings we create in the field. It also provides an opportunity for researchers to take a self
reflexive approach to understanding the case and

  • 2. Alexander Graham Bell Essay Alexander Graham Bell Works Cited Missing The importance of Alexander Graham Bell on today s society is visible, or rather audible, every day and everywhere. First and foremost, Alexander Graham Bell was a prolific teacher of the deaf. This is what he considered to be his true life s work, but only one of the many important things he did. Through his research of speech and sound, and his creative mind, he would become one of the most influential inventors in modern history. His own definition of an inventor, A man who looks upon the world and is not contented with things as they are. He wants to improve whatever he sees, he wants to benefit the world. suits him well. Every thing that he did had an impact on someone. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Early in 1874 Bell met Thomas A. Watson, a young machinist at a Boston electrical shop. Watson became Bell s indispensable assistant, bringing to Bell s experiments the crucial ingredient that had been lacking, his technical expertise in electrical engineering. Together the two men spent endless hours experimenting (Paschoff 43,44). Although Bell formed the basic concept of the telephone using a varying but unbroken electric current to transmit the varying sound waves of human speech, in the summer of 1874, Hubbard insisted that the young inventor focus his efforts on the harmonic telegraph instead. Bell wanted to continue his work on the telephone but he complied. When he patented one of his telegraph designs in February 1875, he found that Elisha Gray had patented a multiple telegraph two days earlier. Greatly discouraged, Bell consulted in Washington with the elderly Joseph Henry, who urged Bell to pursue his germ of a great invention speech transmission (Grosvenor and Wesson 55). Back in Boston, Bell and Watson continued to work on the harmonic telegraph, but still with the telephone in mind. By accident on a June day in 1875, an intermittent transmitter produced a steady current and transmitted sound, when Watson tightened or loosened a particular screw it produced a sound that would vary in pitch. It kills and hospitalizes many people every year. CVD is actually a rather broad category of affliction. It encompasses any disease or condition that affects the heart. These conditions have effects that range from mild to surgical repair and even to death in extreme cases. The causes of CVD are fairly well known. It is directly linked to both physical activity (and the obesity that it prevents) and body mass index (BMI) in the research that we have studied. The BMI is a measure of the proportion of the body that is made up of fat. The higher a person s BMI number is, the more body fat they have. The combination of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the tests performed in this study gauged the effects of body mass index (BMI) and physical activity on cardiovascular disease (CVD) very well, there is, of course, some information that might be questioned. First of all, many of the experiments that were carried out involved self administered questionnaires. Since the subjects that were tested reported on their own physical activity there is a possibility of error, especially since every individual has his/her own ideas of how to measure physical activity. In addition, one of the studies tested only women who were already experiencing chest pain. Although that study suggested that exercise reduced chances of CVD more than BMI, these results could not be extended to men or asymptomatic individuals. Also, there was not a significant follow up period after the experiments, so the long term effects cannot be deduced. Lastly, one must consider that there are several other mechanisms that can contribute to CVD, such as diet and family history. These factors were not taken into account in this research. Diabetes Diabetes is a disorder of the metabolism centered mostly around carbohydrate metabolism. A diagnostic precursor is high glucose blood sugar. Diabetes has three forms or types. Lamark s theory of use and disuse proposes that an organism s structure will steadily evolve and adapt to its environment, but only if it is being used frequently. Using giraffes, Lamark explains that the constant stretching of their necks to reach for higher leafs on trees caused giraffes to develop their long necks. Similarly, according to Lamark if a structure is no longer being used, it will slowly vanish over time. But people are quick to dismiss the use and disuse theory because he mentions that any characteristics that a parent acquires throughout their lifetime will be passed on to their offspring. This is known to not be true because a parent who loses a limb would not mean that their offspring would also be missing that same limb. This statement quite adequately describes the relation between definitions of justice presented by Polemarchus and Thrasymachus in Book I of the Republic. Polemarchus initially asserts that justice is to give to each what is owed (Republic 331d), a definition he picked up from Simonides. Then, through the unrelenting questioning of Socrates, Polemarchus definition evolves into doing good to friends and harm to enemies (Republic 332d), but this definition proves insufficient to Socrates also. Eventually, the two agree that it is never just to harm anyone (Republic 335d). This definition is fundamental to the idea of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is based on his profession as an educator, whose job it is to share knowledge with others and on his willingness to remain a contributing part of the discussion going on at the house of Polemarchus To determine which of these two definitions gives a better account of the good life it is necessary to establish what this good life is. According to Socrates in the Apology it is the greatest good for a man to discuss virtue every day ... for the unexamined life is not worth living (38d). What this statement implies is that to live a good life we must first question and ponder our own ideas of a good life and then do the same with other peoples ideas. In this sense Polemarchus s definition of justice most closely fits the good life because he allows for a common good that would result from examining the ideas of others and the sharing of information. To further display that Polemarchus definition of justice gives a better account of the good life I put forth my own definition of the good life . • 24. Cell Theory Evolution Biologists use the ideas of cell theory, hereditary and genetics, and evolution through natural selection in many different ways. While being very different areas of study, they all share a core idea. This idea is that cells duplicate, and sometimes experience random mutations. From this very basic idea, scientists can theorize that all life on earth came from one or a few very simple cells, and are related through this. But the diversity of life today also shows how these related cell groups evolved and changed. Cell theory is the scientific knowledge that cells can only come from other cells. Years ago, when the idea of spontaneous generation was disproved, a new theory came into play and allowed scientists to learn that cells split and duplicate, sometimes experiencing random genetic mutations. This led to the question: if all cells come from other cells, then where did the very first cell come from? Some scientists believe that perhaps spontaneous generation happened once, billions of years ago, to start the chain of life. Others theorize that the first cells came from an asteroid from another planet. The first cells split and grew and split and grew, until they started to mutate and ... In fact, implementing capital punishment is much more expensive than life imprisonment. In a government with capital punishment, both the trial and appeal process are much more expensive in comparison to noncapital cases as the trials are generally longer and more complex. Australian lawyers estimate that a single capital punishment case could cost taxpayers around $5.5 million while life imprisonment approximately costs $1.5 million.2 Saving money should not be an argument in retaining capital punishment. If Australia re instated capital punishment, Federal and State taxes would need to be increased, all community services would be drastically cut, more hidden taxes would be introduced and finally all essential services and local government costs would also increase. This exemplifies how life imprisonment should be the only option for offences as it not only costs millions less, it also still ensures that the public is protected and the money saved could be spent on programs that actually improve the communities in which we live. This highlights how international jurisdictions for various reasons should, in majority of cases, follow Australia s example and abolish capital punishment for murder and all crimes, however in some cases including repeat offenders such as Peter Dupas capital punishment could be a more effective punishment. Not only can it be harmful to the mother, but it can also be harmful to her baby. Gestational diabetes can increase the chances of pregnant women delivering a baby that weighs more than 9 pounds. Having gestational diabetes can also increase the mother s chance for needing a cesarean section delivery. Some other risk factors that the mother can be a candidate for developing gestational diabetes by is having a family history of diabetes (especially if a parent or sibling has diabetes) and having gestational diabetes in previous pregnancies. Pregnant women don t need to have had diabetes before in order to develop gestational diabetes. They can just have high blood glucose levels during pregnancy to get gestational diabetes. There is a process in which the baby has to go through inside their mother s womb. The placenta is what supports the baby as it grows. Hormones from the placenta help the baby develop. And it is also very profitable. Nothing beats being an owner of a stock, whose share price went from $0.12 to $22 in a few weeks. But not every penny stock trading is the same. There are as many techniques as there are investors, though we can identify three major strategies that are the most common. You definitely should consider choosing one of them, and then refining it further to match your trading style. 1. Stocks On Over The Counter Markets and Pink Sheets On over the counter (OTC) markets and Pink Sheets you won t find companies that were once big but have fallen from grace. These penny stocks are usually really small startups with a share price below $1. There are thousands of them, and you cannot ignore the research necessary to filter out those 95% of them which are useless. OTC penny stocks have other kinds of risks altogether. They are extremely illiquid. Not many shares are traded daily, so if you buy a stock on an OTC market, later you may find yourself in a position that you simply cannot sell it for profit, because of the low volume and a large spread between the bid and the ask price. You won t be able to find a buyer. The other risk is that the great majority of stocks on OTC markets are really low quality, junk stocks, and only a few of them are worth further research. Knowing how to find the good ones is the key point. 3. Ride The Pump And Dump This is unquestionably the most dangerous strategy. Penny stock trading gets all the bad press primarily because of the pump and dump schemes. Pump and dump is a very common and unethical (even criminal) activity where scammers buy up the majority of shares of a low quality OTC penny stock, and then they promote it heavily, so that gullible investors buy the stock too, thereby driving up the share price. Even though the goals of these philosophies were similar, like their beliefs about man and society; their ideas were a little bit different and each had their own focus. They were generally equal to men and highly spoken of in the teachings. Taoism believes in the concept of the Yin and the Yang. This concept is that two halves, two opposites, make a whole. It is a balance, equilibrium of wholeness. The Yin is the dark side, while the Yang is the light side. We can see this balance every day in life. Like the day and the night, a man and a woman. There cannot be one without the other. Absence of light creates darkness; absence of heat makes it cold. When there are beautiful things, the ugly ones come out. And when there is good, there is also bad. One thing defines and complements the other. They coexist by opposing each other. Yet, nothing is completely Yang and nothing is completely Yin. One is the starting point of the other. They are interdependent to be complete. When one increases, the other one decreases. This is how they maintain the overall balance. Peter Singer Equality In All Animals Are Equal, Peter Singer argues that any being with sentience should be granted equal moral consideration on the basis of the concept of equality and the principle of equal consideration of interests. In this paper, I will reconstruct Singer s argument and explain the premises on how he came to this conclusion. To begin with, Singer defines sentience as the capacity to suffer or experience enjoyment or happiness (Singer 53). Singer states that if a being is not capable of suffering, or of experiencing enjoyment or happiness, there is nothing to be taken into account... This is why the limit of sentience... is the only defensible boundary of concern for the interests of other (Singer 50). Firstly, Singer claims that we should understand the concept of equality as a reason for accepting the conclusion of his argument. What he means by this is that the concept of equality is a moral ideal and not a simple assertion of fact (Singer 52). And right now, the waste, which emits radioactive particles that can eat away at human tissue and organs, is being stored in tanks or concrete and steel bunkers at sites that were only meant to contain the waste for perhaps decades, not centuries. Spent fuel is now stored in pools and dry casks, says Rodney Ewing, a professor in nuclear engineering at the University of Michigan. Today it s safe. But it s certainly not a long term solution (Ewing, 2015). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some argue the lack of a permanent, safe storage site for nuclear waste is reason enough to oppose proposals in President Bush s energy plan to speed licensing of new nuclear power plants and extend the operating licenses of existing plants. As Allison Macfarlane, a geologist and senior researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology says, Until we can figure out what to do with the waste, we shouldn t make any more of it (Macfarlane, 2015). But those who tout the economic and environmental benefits of nuclear energy argue a safe, permanent storage site has already been found and only politics has prevented its opening. Others point to changing methods of nuclear power generation that could ultimately reduce waste ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Lee Lead The Army Of Northern Virginia Lee lead the Army of Northern Virginia across to Potomac in Maryland in August of 1862. Reasons for this invasion included taking pressure off the Shenandoah Valley The Breadbasket of the Confederacy at harvest time; encouraging European support for Confederacy by winning a battle on northern soil; and demoralizing Northerners to reduce their support for the war while encouraging the salve holding state of Maryland to secede and join the Confederacy. Lee daringly divided his own army and sent groups to capture objectives. On September 9, he issued Order No. 191 in which he informed commanders of objectives and routes. Union soldiers of the 27th Indiana Regiment noticed a bundle of cigars discarded on the ground in a field. Upon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Late afternoon on September 16th, McClellan ordered Maj. Gen. Joseph Hooker s I Corps to investigate the enemy across the creek. Brig. Gen. George G. Meade s troops attacked Brig. Gen. John Bell Hood s men on the East Woods, causing a minor scuffle. McClellan planned out his attack as artillery fire rang through the night. He decided to focus the strength of his force on East Woods to overwhelm the left flank. Unfortunately, because of his order for Hooker s probing, it gave Lee a strong indication of his intentions. McClellan did not thouroughly communicate the plans of attack to his subordinate commanders. Instead, he gave directions for each of their corps, not including the entirety of the plan. Due to the lack of information, commanders could not easily oversee happening outside of their sector. This lack of proper coordination gave two consequences. First, the Unions advantage of size, two to one, became less of an benefit as they were not as controlled as the Confederacy. Second, the Battle of Antietam ranged between three phases in the coming day: a Morning Phase, a Midday Phase, and an Afternoon Phase. Morning The Battle of Antietam began approximately 5:30am on September 17, 1862. Maj. Gen. Joseph Hooker s men began their march towards the Church of Baptist Brethren, located between Hagerstown road and the West Woods , which obscured Stonewall Jackson s Corps. • 45. Battle Of Antietam Research Paper In 1862, the Maryland Campaign ushered a violent battle upon the Antietam Creek. As the first prominent act of savagery in the American Civil War, this battle produced over twenty thousand casualties (National Park 1). Additionally, it revealed the political significance of the American Civil War. Upon its conclusion, the Confederate Army ceased the invasion of the north and Abraham Lincoln issued the original Emancipation Proclamation. Undoubtedly, the Battle of Antietam decided the fate of the American Civil War and rendered the abolition of slavery (Marx 20). On September third of 1862, General Robert E. Lee commanded the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia to enter the state of Maryland. Lee s army was emboldened with pride, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lee s army. Union soldier, Joseph E. Hooker, initiated an attack on the Hagerstown Turnpike (Ballard 25). At dawn, Joseph Hooker led approximately 8,600 men to battle. However, Hooker stopped the infantry unit upon noticing that the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia concealed a range of bayonets in a cornfield (Ballard 30). Thus, a fiery battle erupted along the Antietam Creek. Soldiers beat their fellow man with rifle butts and pierced their bodies with bayonets. Additionally, The Dunker Church at Antietam became a bloody remembrance of the battle (Ballard 40). By midday, the town was covered with the carnage of Union and Confederate soldiers. A sunken street, known as Bloody Lane, was emblazoned with the bloodshed of 5,600 casualties. On the evening of September seventeenth, the battle had concluded. According to historians, the Battle of Antietam yielded more casualties than any other day in the history of the nation s military. Specifically, over twenty thousand casualties were accounted for. However, President Abraham Lincoln expressed disappointment in General George B. McClellan s military performance during the Battle of Antietam. For example, he stated that a rationalist mindset that permeated McClellan s strategic acts led him to miss a great chance to destroy Lee s army (Lincoln 19). Furthermore, Lincoln grew increasingly disenchanted with McLellan s militant skills as he declined to attack General Lee along the Potomac River. On November seventh of 1862, President Lincoln dismissed General McClellan from the Army of the Potomac and the Maryland Campaign was dissolved. Consequently, the Battle of Antietam was strategically deemed a Union ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. WWII and the Road to Midway Essay World War Two came to America on December 7th, 1941. The focus on America s involvement in the war generally focuses on the European front. What must be remembered is the time and sacrifices made in the Pacific theatre. America s entry into the war on the Pacific was not an immediate success. It took American forces until the summer of 1942 at the Battle of Midway to become properly prepared for the war. The American military learned much from their losses both through the strengths of the Japanese forces and America s own faults. After these losses were realized, changes were made within the military. These improvements allowed the American forces to turn the war back and begin to have successes in the Pacific. Pearl Harbour ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another aspect of the Japanese success was powerful and effective tactics. Tactics include the training of the Japanese soldiers and their objectives in battle. Japanese soldiers were trained to die honourable to fight to the death and never be taken prisoner3. Training the soldiers to fight this way was not only traditionally Japanese, but it inspired them to continue fighting beyond what would be seen as a reasonable time. This sincere dedication to defending their people and Emperor (the cause of this training) allowed the Japanese soldiers to be effective killers even when faced with undeniable defeat4. Beyond their training, the Japanese had other advantages in their battle objectives. The use of radar was essential to the Americans, and so the Japanese were often ordered to target the radar stations on islands before beginning full assaults5. Targeting the radar stations prevented the Americans from properly estimating the Japanese forces or from knowing where they were headed. The final tactical advantage the Japanese had was that their air force consisted of small experienced squads especially for important missions6. Having been involved in a number of minor wars in east Asia in the 1930s, Japanese forces were far more experienced; this lead to a much greater effectiveness than the inexperienced Americans. Technologically, Japan was also ahead of America at the outset of the war. This, partially, is due to experience and having been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. The Advantages Of Teaching Technology And The Benefits Of... Benefits of Technology Children today are impacted by technology; some people believe that technology can be beneficial in a child s life and others are strictly against it. Though, everyone is accustomed to their own beliefs when it comes to raising a child, and how they want their child to be educated. The main argument is should children or adults be involved with technology, and if so how much technology should they encounter within the day? There is a wide variety of educational and non educational resources that technology offers to teachers, parents, and students, in moderation these resources can be beneficial to people educationally and socially. Schools today are trying their best to stay up to date with the latest and greatest technology, from Smart Boards to lending each student their own laptop or iPad. In the classroom teachers use the technology within their lesson plans, but when planning they should make sure that the programs that they include will engage students, and will also involve interaction between the students and program (Stošić, L). Incorporating technology in the classroom is a great educational tool for teachers to use as part of their teaching methods. While including educational technology methods in the classroom it will enhance students learning skills and their cognitive characteristic (Stošić, L). With the right teaching methods and reliable educational interactive learning programs, students are more excited and motivated about learning, because of the involvement of today s modern technology. Outside of school, parents have the option to entertain and at the same time educate their children by using technology. There are some apps intended for kindergarten through twelfth grade, that parents can download to their device and can be used for educational purposes. Most of the educational apps support the single person use of interactive learning materials, simulations and learning games (Leinonen, T). Since apps include multiple games to get children engaged in different educational lessons, they are more likely to retain more knowledge of the content being taught. Educational apps are a great source for reviewing what they child has learned or is learning in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Strengths And Weaknesss Of Case Studies X. DATAANALYSIS As the information is collected, researchers strive to make sense of their data. Generally, researchers interpret their data in one of two ways: holistically or through coding. Holistic analysis does not attempt to break the evidence into parts, but rather to draw conclusions based on the text as a whole. Flower and Hayes (1981), for example, make inferences from entire sections of their students protocols, rather than searching through the transcripts to look for isolatable characteristics. However, composition researchers commonly interpret their data by coding that is by systematically searching data to identify and/or categorize specific observable actions or characteristics. These observable actions then become the key ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this section, we comment on two key issues. To read the commentaries, choose any of the items below: 10.3. Strengths and Weaknesses of Case Studies Most case study advocates point out that case studies produce much more detailed information than what is available through a statistical analysis. Advocates will also hold that while statistical methods might be able to deal with situations where behavior is homogeneous and routine, case studies are needed to deal with creativity, innovation, and context. Detractors argue that case studies are difficult to generalize because of inherent subjectivity and because they are based on qualitative subjective data, generalizable only to a particular context. 10.3.1Strengths Flexibility The case study has the potential to engage participant in the research process. This is both a political and epistemological points. It singles a potential shift in the power base of who controls knowledge and recognizes the importance of co construction perceived reality through the relationship and joint understandings we create in the field. It also provides an opportunity for researchers to take a self reflexive approach to understanding the case and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
