Death In Mary Oliver s Sleeping In The Forest
Mary Oliver s poem, Sleeping in the Forest, presents a peaceful and vivid representation of death and
its relationship with nature. As the poem begins, the reader is introduced to the earth welcoming the
speaker back into the realm of nature. Man was created from the dust of the earth and when we die,
our bodies return to the dust. However, this poem presents a more beautiful image of what death is
composed of. Death is often portrayed as being frightening and disturbing. When individuals are
presented with the thought of death, they often push this thought away out of fear and ignorance.
Everyone will die someday whether we ignore the thought of death or not. However, Oliver creates a
relaxing and welcoming image for the reader on what death (ideally) is. Obviously, since Oliver is still
alive, she doesn t know what death feels like. However, the way she describes death, I hope that it
feels like sleeping in a forest; full of stars and enchantment. The enchantment in this poem begins by
the earth welcoming the speaker back home. This speaker expresses that, She took me back so
tenderly. This statement exemplifies to the reader that death is not a scary process. In this case, the
earth is being portrayed as a woman. This is significant because women are often portrayed as being
nurturing and caring. For the reader, this can trigger memories or ideas of who the reader would
picture the earth as. Whether that be a mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, etc. the reader can

Pathway To Citizenship
If it were up to you, and you had the choice whether or not to give undocumented citizens a chance at
citizenship, would you? Many people believe that they should not have a chance at citizenship
because they came here illegally. Every person has their own opinion on this topic. This debate is one
of many debates going on in between the candidates or even the politicians, but of course they all have
their own views and reasons on it. Everyone should consider that they should because either we are
hurting families or they can help improve our economy. In the next three paragraphs this argument
will be influencing you to side with my claim, that undocumented citizens should get a pathway to
citizenship.
One important reason that undocumented residents should be allowed a pathway to citizenship is that
many of them have american ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not just in money but in resources, we use more resources to deport or capture undocumented citizens
than we can really afford. According to Senator Schumer, Upfront magazine 2016, Without reform,
our immigration laws threaten to tear apart families and force our government to expend precious
resources to deport millions. What Senator Schumer is making clear is that the government is
spending too much money on resources to deport undocumented citizens when instead they could find
a way to make some if not all undocumented citizens a path to citizenship. Some people might argue
that if undocumented citizens cooperated with the law or government there wouldn t be an issue. This
might be true but maybe if the government didn t assume that all undocumented citizens are criminals
and deport them instead of giving them a chance at citizenship, there would also be no issue. The key
point is that instead of focusing on kicking undocumented citizens out, we should be focusing on
making it possible for them to stay as legal

Critique Of Rendition
Current Topic Critique II Rendition is a legal tool used by the U.S Government to transfer captured
individuals from one country to another without going through formal extradition procedures
(Rosenbach and Peritz, 2010). This process can be described as the governments terrorist catching
tool, and like most government tools has been the subject of controversy regarding civil liberties.
Catching Mir Aimal Kasi is described by Rosenbach and Peritz (2010) as the poster child for the good
that properly using rendition can do, while Jane Mayer (2008) shows what happens when it is used
with no accountability when she shares the story of Maher Arar. Extraordinary rendition is an even
more streamlined version of rendition, it is rendition that does not require consent from the other
nation involved. The use of rendition is among the most controversial pieces of U.S policy on the
global stage. Legal Rendition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The textbook example of this is the capture and rendition of Mir Aimal Kasi, who gunned down two
CIA employees outside the CIA headquarters building in 1993. Mir Aimal Kasi managed to flee the
scene and escape to Pakistan, where he would hide for several years (Rosenbach and Peritz, 2010).
Four years later a joint CIA and Pakistani operation would capture him and use the rendition process
to hastily get him back to the U.S to stand trial (Rosenbach and Peritz, 2010). When both governments
are afraid of keeping the detainee in the country where captured due to anti American sentiments in
the local population or various other reasons, the rendition process is used to quickly and quietly move
them to the U.S. By using rendition, instead of extradition, the host country can avoid any potential
political backlash by speeding up the process and not keeping the detainee any longer than they

Models Of Health And The Biopsychosocial Model Of Health
Models of Health The World Heath Organization defines health as being a state of wholeness in a
person s mental, physical, and social well being (Gurung, 2014). Different models of health are used
worldwide to assist in achieving this state. Two widely used models of health in the United States
include the biomedical model of health and the biopsychosocial model of health. They both strive to
help individuals and communities achieve wholeness, while approaching this in different manners.
Each model of health has strengths, drawbacks, and practical uses in the field of medicine. The
biomedical model of health takes into account the physical or biological quality of life and is widely
used in the Western medicine approach to health (Gurung, 2104). A basic assumption of this model is
that the mind and body connection is irrelevant. Many advances in medicine have occured because of
the biomedical model of health. In using evidence based medicine it has been possible to evaluate the
results of clinical and pharmaceutical research in order to make strides in medicine (Ashton, 1999). It
takes advantage of algorithmic treatment options. Even though this approach may be more difficult for
a psychiatrist to utilize when diagnosing and treating a patient, this model has radically shaped
psychotherapy research and psychiatric medication (Deacon, 2013). The biomedical approach lends
itself more readily to research because of its quantitative nature and it is less subjective than the
biopsychosocial approach when measuring emotions and culture. The biopsychosocial model of health
is a multidimensional approach to health (Lecture 1, 2014). It focuses not only on the biology or
physiology of a person, but also includes the psychology of a person and the manner in which society
and culture influence health as well (Gurung, 2014). It was developed in the 21st century as an
important theoretical framework to approaching health and medicine (Richtig, Trapp, Kapfhamer,
Jenull, Richtig Trapp, 2016).This approach makes the assumption that the mind and body connection
is not only relevant but also vital to a person s entire well being. It takes a holistic approach when
treating an individual and can improve health in the

Argumentative Essay Boxing
Boxing a violent cage fight, or a crowd pleasing sport? Boxing is a high intensified sport that can be
seen as helping the fighter in life or permanently damaging the fighters future. Many say that boxing
is one of the safest sports; however, boxing can leave permanent brain damage from constant punches
to the skull. The sport boxing is for managers to earn money while their fighter is in the ring fighting
against another human until one gives up, or gets knocked out. A fight could be the end of one s
career, or even one s life. Boxing should be banned because the money earned does not trump the risk
of death, the mixed messages from fighters in the ring confuse the laws regarding assault, and the
constant punches to and athletes head leaves permanent damage. The death of one is not worth the
money earned from winning a fight. This is important to realize because the expense of one s life is
worth way more than the winnings of a cage fight. In On Boxing, Joyce asserts directly why she
thinks boxing is not a humanized sport: In the boxing ring, even in our greatly humanized times, death
is always a possibility which is why some of us prefer to watch films or tapes of fights already past,
already defined as history (source c). Joyce is stating that many watch tapes from the past when
boxing first started because it was much safer then, than it is now. Also in On Boxing, Carol states
directly her opinion for the sport boxing: In no other sport can so much take

Fear From The Town In A Rose For Emily
Alive, Miss Emily had been a tradition, a duty, and a care; a sort of hereditary obligation upon the
town, dating from that day in 1894 when Colonel Sartoris (Faulkner I). Emily abandoned with no
wealth but a house from her father s will. Her father was the man in her life that took control and
isolated Emily by enabling her to have a husband and a proper life. Emily creates her own illusions, a
reality that permanently detaches herself from the real world. Therefore, as the years passed the town
developed a new society, but Emily has gone old unable to accept the changes in her surrounding by
refusing to have a mailbox build on her property. She lives in the past that enables her to adapt. This
gothic short story, A Rose for Emily (1930), ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are a few reasons why Emily gets the negative attention from the town. First, Emily s snobbish
persona intimidates and scare away any town folks because she lacks affection from love ones and
human interaction. The town is afraid of disturbing Emily because from a pungent smell that lingered
her home, Dammit, sir, Judge Stevens said, will you accuse a lady to her face of smelling bad?
(Faulkner II). They took action to encircle her home and sprinkle lime to get rid of the awful smell.
This passage foreshadows the future of Emily s lover Homer dead. Second, Emily ask the druggist to
hand over the a powerful poison and she gets her way by demanding and refusing to explain what she
s going to use it for. When an individual is feared they tend to get what they want. Therefore, the town
folks exclaimed, We all said, She will kill herself ; and we said it would be the best thing (Faulkner
IV). Emily purchased poison to use on her Homer, because rumors from the town he did not have
interest on marry, so Emily did refused Homer on leaving her. Controlling like her father she forced
him to stay by poisoning him and his body detailed as, The body had apparently once lain in the
attitude of an embrace, but now the long sleep that outlasts love, that conquers even the grimace of
love, had cuckolded him (Faulkner V). The passage shows symptoms of being emotionally unstable
after her father s death. Emily positioning a corpse into a cradling position making her a

New York Historical Events
History
A big part that people do not consider when they come to New York is about its early history, its
disasters, and its historical events. In New York the first people living there were the native americans.
There were two tribes the Iroquois and the Oneida. First, the Iroquois were a group of tribes the
Mohawk, Oneida, Cayuga, and the Seneca. Later, the Tuscarora joined the group of the 5. They had
different names depending on what kind of people they were. The French called them the Iroquois, the
name they have today. These group of people originally named their group the Haudenosaunee,
meaning the people of the longhouse. The British called them the 5 nations because at the time of
when the British saw them their first time the 6th tribe wasn t part of it. They lived in houses that were
called longhouses and sometimes these talks structures could be 100ft. tall of the ground. Lastly, the 3
sisters were the 3 crops grown together the corn, bean, and squash. Also, the Oneida ... Show more

One of them are the Twin towers. Terrorists crashed airplane on the Twin towers of the World Trade
Center. What might surprise you is that the people who crashed the plane did it on purpose. Thousands
of people were killed in this harsh attack. Another historical event is when New York became a state.
On July 26 1778, New York became 11th U.S. state. New York city was then the nation s capital from
1785 until 1790. Lastly, another historical event to not forget is Ellis Island. The island opened for the
reason of the government to take care of the immigration and make sure immigrants did not bring
diseases and make sure that immigrants could support themselves in America. The first immigrant to
arrive was 15 year old Annie Moore with her 2 brothers. She had come to reunite with her parents
already there. On the island there were medical tests and then be interviewed. If you passed those 2

The poem Who s for the game. Essay
The poem Who s for the game.
Who would much rather come back with a crutch, than lie low and be out of the fun?
Throughout the poem Who s for the game , Jessie Pope convinces many soldiers to go to war by
asking questions in every stanza. Who s for the game, the biggest thetas played, the red crashing game
of a fight? , she asks the reader in an excited tone, allowing the soldier to have a very positive effect
on war. Who wants to play in this fight? , as if to say that the idea of war was nothing more than a
boxing game, which was a common sport in the era of world war two.
Most classes (even those who were rich) had more or less of an idea on the rules concerning this
particular sport, and were familiar with it.

The language of Jessie Pope is very informal as it is directed to young men, who in the era of World
war two were very young (aged 16 and over) and uneducated. Who knows it wont be a picnic not
much
. This use of improper slang language could attract the attention of the young and uneducated man
partially because she shares the same common speech with him making him feel more comfortable
with the poem.
Less able soldiers may raise their heads in marvel to the poem purely due to the continuous tempo.
Use of the word lads , is what a higher figure of authority would call a boy e.g. a mother or father.
This is showing that she has authority and is telling the boys what to do rather than giving them an
option.
Owen, unlike Pope has used simile s to give a more effective description of how the soldiers feel and
look like. Drunk with fatigue, deaf even to the hoots , Owen suggests that as alcohol makes one drunk
and unbalanced on the feet, so does the large amounts of fatigue that the soldiers have received.
Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud , Owen uses the word cancer as he feels that there is nothing that
can stop the man from dying, a small glimmer of hope but other than that it seems to be incurable. He
has also used visual and sound effects rather than rhyme. If you could hear at ,every jolt, the blood ,
using the world jolt he gives a

During the trial against Tom Robinson, Jem is always mumbling to himself and explaining his point of
view. He believes wholeheartedly in the case and its injustice. While Mr. Ewell is testifying, Scout
observes, Jem seemed to be having quite a fit. He was pounding the balcony rail softly, and once he
whispered, We ve got him (Lee 238). Unlike Scout, Jem understands everything that is going on at the
trial. He distinguishes the wrong that was committed, and because of it, he has lost his blissful
thinking. He cared so deeply about the trial that when the jury gave their verdict Jem s reaction was
that his Hands were white from gripping the balcony rail, and his shoulders jerked as if each Guilty
was a separate stab between them (Lee 282). He witnessed the unjust actions of the Ewells and he is
defeated after his father loses the first hearing. Jem bears the loss just as much as Atticus, and Jem
becomes distressed. In the article that reviews the book, Stress and Child Development, the author,
Ross Thompson writes, Children s early social experiences shape their developing neurological and

inclined to feel the need to interact with people. It is not because of paranoia, but because these people
genuinely like to be alone and don t show many emotions. To help Joe one could recommend
cognitive behavioral and group therapy. Cognitive side of the therapy would consist of talking to Jose
about his feelings. Especially focusing on any positive feelings that he can remember. The behavioral
part would be teaching Jose social skills by role playing or exposure techniques.

Laws Affecting The Agency Of The United States Postal Service
Laws Affecting The Agency
When it comes to The United States Postal Service, I did not think they would have many court cases,
especially dealing with diversity and mistreatment in the workplace. During my research, however, I
was proven wrong. The Postal Service has had quite a few court cases, while many of them relate to
ethical and discriminatory issues. Individuals have felt that the Postal Service sometimes judge
applicants or workers by their lifestyle or ethnicity. This in turn shows bad representation of personnel
management. One case that shows proof of this is the United States Postal Service v. Aikens. Harold
Aikens, who was a black employee of the USPS, opened a case against his job being that he felt he
was not receiving promotions because of his ethnicity. This is a direct violation of Title VII if found to
be true. According to the USPS, Aikens applied for a promotion for which he possessed the minimum
qualifications, and that the employer selected a nonminority applicant, the parties and the Court of
Appeals have unnecessarily evaded the ultimate question of discrimination... (Bartholet 1982).
Ultimately, the court upheld that Aikens did not in fact present a valid prima faci case, which the
plaintiff creates a belief that the employer discriminated against him, and have evidence that backs up
his claim. Due to the failure to prove that he was being discriminated against due to his race, the case
did not go in his way. Regardless of the judgement, this

Leonardo Da Vinci And The World Of Engineering
Engineering Drawings Military vehicles and weapons, flying objects, like planes and drones, robots,
the study and understanding of kinesiology, and our knowledge of how water flows... This may seem
like a random list of things that have no significance to each other at all, but they all in fact have
something in common. The common thread that links these things is Leonardo Da Vinci. Leonardo
has impacted the world of engineering in so many different ways, it is almost impossible to count
them all. He is considered to be the father of numerous innovations and designs and some of his
original works are still being referenced today. This essay will discuss Leonardo and how his
inventions were not only masterpieces in his time, but also how they provided a foundation for future
engineers to build from. It all started in the little town of Vinci, just twenty two miles outside of
Florence, Italy (DaVinci Tech). Leonardo da Vinci was born on April fifteenth, 1452, to a family that
was not very wealthy; so he could not afford any form of education (Leonardo da Vinci). Despite this,
Leonardo s designs were still way beyond his time. Leonardo lived in Vinci for some time, but
eventually moved to Milan, a military based city at the time, where he drew some of his first designs.
Milan s environment stimulated his military inventions. Today, military vehicles and items are very
commonly seen around the world, and a lot of them originated from Da Vinci s designs. For example,

respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to
the separation (US 1776). Every American and British citizen should know this quote. It is, of course,

1 , and it was written by none other than Thomas Paine. Thomas Paine is the author of many
influential works during the late 18th century. Most notably he authored Common Sense and The
Rights of Man . Sense Paine was so successful and influential during his time, a look at his works will
give great insight into the American philosophy of the late 1700s. This philosophy typically consisting
of the opposition of tyranny and the idea of revolution. The line Tyranny, like hell, is not easily
conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the
triumph definitely personifies this point (Paine). The quote If there must be trouble let it be in my, that
my child may have peace does an equal if not better job of personifying the previous point of
revolution (Paine). As stated previously, to have an idea of the American philosophy of the time, it is
pertinent that we should look at more than one of Paine s works. There is a quote from The Rights of
Man that depicts a philosophy similar to that of Jefferson s. This quote states that Man has no property
in man (Paine 32). The most logical interpretation of this line is that no human being has a right to
own the will of another human being. That each individual owns themselves and is responsible for
their own actions. This is core idea any individualist philosophy, and mirrors

Play Critique Of Man And Superman By George Bernard Shaw
Man and Superman Play Critique
Man and Superman, written by George Bernard Shaw, is a comedy of ideas which was based in late
19th century London. The play primarily revolves around John Tanner. It begins as news arrives of the
death of Mr. Whitefield, who is Ann s father. The first dilemma begins as Mr. Ramsden and Jack argue
over who will care for Ann and her sister and who will eventually marry Ann. There is also the
problem that comes with Violet, as she is secretly married and pregnant. Later in the play, Jack
encounters the famous womanizer Don Juan in a dream, who he confers with about the idea of
marriage. Throughout the duration of the play, the viewer is able to dissect the playwright s mind and
the directors and actors choices.
The play focuses on the idea of Ubermensch , which is German for superman . Shaw gives his
Ubermensch qualities such as superior intellect, intuition, and self defined virtues. The theme of the
play is the barriers that the evolution of the superman encounters, one of which according to Shaw is
marriage. The institution of marriage is a barrier as it strengthens the division of social classes and
hinders copulation. It was also heavily influenced by power and property acquisition. It is criticized in
the play as Violet keeps her marriage a secret from her family and others because her husband is of a
lesser social class. Furthermore, the inclusion of the Don Juan dream that Jack encounters is also
criticism as Don Juan tells Jack that

The World Population Increases The Global Food Production
Literature Review
Several studies (Oltjen et al., 1996; Dahlen et al., 2014; Thornton, 2010; and Tilman et al., 2002)
drawn the conclusion that as the world population increases the global food production must as well.
The current meat practices in the U.S are unsustainable in terms of being able to meet the future
demands of global society (Dahlen et al., 2014). Although livestock practices have changed
dramatically over time to make production more efficient it has negative impacts on the environment
and human health. Fortunately sustainable solutions do exist. Others livestock farmers around the
world are implementing sustainable practice that improve the quality of meat and decrease their
impacts on the environment.

In the next forty years food production will need to increase by one hundred percent if it is going to
meet the demands of global society (Dahlen et al., 2014). The reproduction of livestock has undergone
evolutionary changes over time all in favor of making production more efficient. Artificial
insemination (AI), estrous synchronization and fixed time AI (TAI), semen and embryo
cryopreservation, multiple ovulation and embryo transfer (MOET), in vitro fertilization, sex
determination of sperm or embryos, and nuclear transfer are technologies that are used to enhance the
production efficiency of beef operations (Dahlen et al., 2014). These are some of the newer
technologies that have been generated to increase meat production. Food provides energy and
nutrients, and its acquisition requires the expenditure of energy. In today s world unbalanced
nutritional diets lead to obesity and other serious health issues (McMichael et al., 2007). Livestock
raising is a major contributor to agriculture related greenhouse gas emissions. Studies have been
conducted to analyze what changes the meat industry would need to undergo to reduce the greenhouse
gas emission levels. In order to reach the target level of greenhouse gas emissions the world would
need to reduce their demand of animal products significantly (McMichael et al., 2007). The estimated

Organization Statement of Relevant Facts: The Rump Organization, a SEC registrant, is planning a
corporate restructuring plan. On December 27, 2005 Ronald Rump, the CEO of the organization,
along with the Board of Directors approved a plan to involuntarily terminate 100 of the organization s
employees. There is an option for each of the employees to sign a litigation waiver, which forfeits any
right they have for legal action against Rump. In exchange for their voluntary signing of the waiver,
Rump will offer each employee a lump sum cash payment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alternatively, if the employee s termination is considered voluntary a liability will be recorded when
the employee leaves the company (ASC 712 10 25 1). In order to answer this question we need to
establish the communication date in the case. After establishing the communication date we need to
determine if all criteria presented in ASC 420 10 25 4 are satisfied. An additional issue is if the past
one time severance benefit offered to employees being terminated could be considered an
enhancement to an ongoing benefit arrangement. If it is considered an enhancement, the liability
would be recognized when it is probable that a future settlement will be reached (ASC 420 10 55 18).
Conclusions and Authoritative Reasoning: Below is a summary of our conclusions and authoritative
reasoning for each of the provisions: 1. We conclude that Rump should recognize the liability for the
expected employee termination benefits on the communication date, upon meeting all four criteria
presented in ASC 420 10 25 4 and communicated to the employees, which is December 31, 2005. We
believe that the termination of the employees is involuntary. We also concluded that the benefit
arrangement is not to be treated as an enhancement to an ongoing benefit arrangement. a. Following is
a discussion of the four criteria presented in ASC 420 10 25 4: i. Management, having the authority to

Grendel As A Hero Essay
The Old English epic Beowulf is the earliest recorded poem in Old English. The story is set in
Scandinavia with the antagonist Grendel. Gendel is a monster and an insensitive character. Grendel
was born into a monster and was cursed his entire life. Although Grendel was strong he wasn t very
brave because he only attacks at night when the guards are asleep. He has many characteristics that a
monster would have. First and foremost, he was raised to be evil, and never had the chance to be good.
Also whenever he would hear joy, he would be filled with anger and hatred. Grendel likes killing
people he doesn t feel any remorse after killing people. An example from the story that shows this is
Snatched up thirty men, smashed them unknowing in their beds and out with their bodies (Genesis,pg
4). Talking about Grendel ties in with our next evil antagonist known as Cain. Cain is the son of Adam
and Eve. He was a farmer who was jealous of his brother who was accepted by God and when Cain
was rejected he decided to kill his brother Abel. Unlike Grendel Cain believed in god he just didn t ...

Like how Grendel displays his envy towards people as Cain did to his brother Abel. Grendel is
described as a distant offspring to Cain. They both are also outcast to society and roam in the
darkness. Both Grendel and Cain were jealous. Grendel was jealous of the people who were
celebrating and being joyful and that jealousy made him kill many innocent people. Cain killed Abel
out of jealousy and was cast away. They both don t feel remorse after killing. An example that showed
that Cain didn t feel any remorse The man who killed his brother cares only for himself. He doesn t
express even the tiniest twinge of remorse, contrition, or repentance( Saxon,pg 42). Another similarity
between Grendel and Cain would be selfishness. They both didn t have concern for others didn t have
no regard for others but murdering

Indigenous Bilingual Education Programs in Australia
Introduction Despite Australia s ever growing multiculturalism, it has been found that monolingualism
is extraordinarily common in Australia throughout the general population and all occupational levels
(Bostock, 1973). With such an array of cultures present, one would assume that Australian education
systems would have endless bilingual programs in place. However, this is not the case. Despite the
successes of bilingual education on a global scale, little effort has been made to preserve any
Australian languages, meaning that language death has become an everyday factor that Indigenous
individuals have to deal with (Wurm, 1991). This paper discusses the concept of bilingual education
and its faults in the transition from theory to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The positives of bilingual education have been recognised on a global scale for years. These benefits
include: enabling minority cultures to maintain and develop their traditions, self esteem and identity;
improving intercultural communication between groups within and outside the society; enriching
individuals intellectually, educationally and culturally and thus allowing intergenerational
communication, providing cognitive advantages, enhancing employment and career prospects and
contributing to general wellbeing (Simpson 2009, p.3). Thus, in its broadest sense, bicultural
education is the teaching of two ways of life (Harris, 1978). Bilingual Education The Transition from
Theory to Practice Despite bilingual education s apparent successes on paper, the transition from
theory to practice determines whether the program will succeed or fail. An evidential reason of why
bilingual programs fail in schools, particularly in the Australian context, is that they are treated as
transfer bilingual programs, rather than the maintenance model (Harris, 1978). According to Harris
(1978), transfer bilingual programs are when the Indigenous language is merely implemented as an
efficient way of making students literate in English in

Children s Lit Task 1
Part A.
In the past five years, children s literature has had many common themes. Bullying has been a popular
subject of interest at all levels of reading. This trend reflects a rising concern about cyberbullying and
the sometimes dramatic effects it can have on a child s life. Writers and parents are making an effort to
show children that what they do to their peers has real consequences and to be mindful with their
words and actions. Another popular subject is dystopian futures. This interest is in part due to the
success of The Hunger Games trilogy, children have become interested in the future of their planet.
Another interesting trend in children s literature is mixing of genres, such as mixing cartoons and
novels, which may be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Brief Note On The North Fork Of Long Island
Going out to the North Fork of Long Island, many people indulge in the wineries dotted along the two
main roads. These wineries produce world renowned wines and have a great atmosphere. For those
who get a little hungry, they might stop at our multiple family owned farm stands and buy some fresh
salad greens, or go apple picking in the crisp fall air. This all sounds wonderful until you face the
facts. Without the overuse of many topical chemicals to treat for pests, fungus, and weeds, these
commodities would be much harder to come by. Chemicals such as PCB s, PHA s, and the now
banned DDT were all once used on these fertile farmlands of Long Island and since then may be a
direct factor to the rise in cancer rates on Long Island, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This hypothesis had lead scientists to believe that being within sight distance of a pre 1972 fogger
truck spraying DDT may be associated with the estrogen receptive tumors, the most common type of
breast cancer diagnosed among American women (White). While DDT is still banned, there is the
factor of biological magnification that is still present today. Biological magnification is the process in
which chemicals of small doses are absorbed into the fatty tissues of animals through the water they
drink, and as they are absorbed into the fatty tissues, they are then passed down to the offspring of the
animals through the mother s milk, and are absorbed into the offspring s fatty tissues. This is present
in humans just as much as animals, and has lead to the fact that DDT still exists in our ecosystem to
this day. Pesticides and other chemicals also enter the ecosystem through water sources. DDT is
commonly known to be soluble in water, and have great biological magnification factors in the
ecosystem of the Long Island Sound. In a study used in research done by Marietta College, there was
biological magnification of eight hundred times from the water to zooplankton. Then, fish will eat the
zooplankton, and those fish received another magnification of thirty one times. Then a larger fish eats
the first fish and receives a biological magnification of almost two times. Then the unfortunate larger
fish is eaten by a seagull which

Students Should Have Jobs At School
Topic: Students Should Have Jobs while in College
Opening/Attention:
Nowadays 80% of college students work at least a part time job while pursuing their studies. For some
working while in school is a necessity, for others its simply a desire. No matter the reason there is an
ongoing debate about whether or not students should hold a job while in school. Some say that we
shouldn t because it will affect our grades and the amount of focus we pay to our studies. Those in
favor of working students say that it gives valuable real world experience and teaches money
management. Both sides make valid points
Spoken Link: As a working student myself however I agree with the latter. I believe that working
while in school is a benefit
Emotion/Story:
As I said before for some working is not a necessity but just something they do. In my case though
having a job was and is a necessity. My parents got divorced when I was 8. My mom raised my
brothers and I completely on her own, providing everything she could for all of us. As you can
imagine money was always tight so as soon as I could I began working. I got my first job, which was
at a retail store, when I was 14. I continued to work all through high school and continue to do so now.
While it has been hard at some points balancing school, work, and everything else in my life working
has benefitted me in many ways. Obviously the biggest benefit is the financial aspect of it. Having a
job enables me to not have to rely on support from

Biography of Muhammad Ali Essay
Biography of Muhammad Ali
Muhammad Ali is the Quintessential American. In his stand for religious and racial freedom, for his
humility, generosity, braggadocio, deep and abiding physical and mental courage, though always
larger than life Ali exhibited many typical and deep rooted
American traits. He struck a number of positively resonant notes in the American psyche, that make
him now a revered person (Walter). Muhammad Ali is a widely known person, not only for being one
of the all time greatest fighters in history, but also for being one of the most prominent and influential
persons of the twentieth century. Muhammad Ali was not always called by that name, born on January

Americans, at this point, were not to fond of
Ali. They continued to call him Cassius Clay and rooted for him to lose in upcoming matches, but Ali
continued to be unstoppable in the ring. As the years went on Ali went on winning but the years were
passing and that was having some affect on him. In 1970
Muhammad fought against Jerry Quarry and even though Ali did win the fight it was noticeable that
he was moving slower than he did in the late 1960 s. He began taking more punches instead of
dodging and dancing from them like he used to do, but he was also stronger this time around. Out to
recapture the title of Heavyweight Champion, Ali jumped back into training camp to train. The bout
was one of three legendary fights between Ali and
Frazier. Since the title was taken from him and was not lost in the ring many people felt
Ali was still rightfully the Heavyweight Champion. Ali openly ridiculed Frazier showing lack of fear
for his opponent. Despite all of Ali s negative remarks, Frazier was a tough opponent. The actual fight
was even in the early rounds, but Ali was absorbing more punishment than he ever did before. In the
fifteenth round the unthinkable happened:
Frazier hit Ali on the jaw with a bone crushing left hook and that knocked him to the canvas. Ali did
bounce back up as fast as he went down, but when the fight ended, it was clear that Frazier was the
winner. It was Ali s first professional loss but he was not ready

How Did Pennsylvania Coal Burn
In 1962, Centralia, Pennsylvania, found in the Appalachian valley with a population of approximately
1100 people. A town put on the map for its richness in anthracite coal that burns long and hot, though
the mine had been closed for years but far from empty. Though the people of the town knew nothing
of what lurked below and went about their everyday lives which included burning trash at the
municipal dump like people did in that time. As the fire burned it creep into the ground and was lit
ablaze by coal long left behind, striking the beginning of the end for the small, unsuspecting
Pennsylvania town. The flared for about a month and when workers finally dug back the burned earth
they found it had burned much deeper than they thought. For 16 years the state and federal
government tried to put out the fire and spent 3.3 million dollars on the project with little or no

Coal is created by plants that died and fell to the ground, then this plant matter is waterlogged by
rainfall by things like sediment and other plant matter compressing it until over time it is compressed

constant supply of three things; fuel, heat, and oxygen. The best way to put out any fire is to deprive it
of one of those to things, the easiest being heat or oxygen, problem is coal can burn in an environment
with as little as 1% or 2% oxygen and the air that we breathe has about 21% oxygen and pre existing
cracks in rocks permit airflow straight to the fire.(Palus) (Perkins) The second option is to smother the
flames and deprive the fire of its heat source, but the fire was

National Symbol For The Drug Abuse Resistance Education...

The programs have volunteered police officers who are invited by local schools to speak and work

consequences of drug procession without scaring them too much. Compared to the discussions these
officers provide the teachers, which they aim to enhance more interactive discussions and workbooks.
Their mission statement states that they wish to promote prevention of substance abuse. Although,
they do mention finding ways to avoid to gang membership manipulations. As a result, students who

Supporting Moral Subjectivism
To begin, the term moral subjectivism implies that beliefs are individualized and correct for the said
individual. In essence, there is no real definitive truth that can be applied to moral sentences or beliefs.
For example, two people can have beliefs about the number 13 (or number 4 in the Chinese culture)
One highly religious person can believe it s the devil s number and will lead to murder, chaos, and
violence and for another person, possibly of a different moral code or of time period, (such as the
ancient Egyptians), it can be their lucky or spiritual number. Our text provides four reasons for
supporting moral subjectivism. These reasons include: The fact that feelings are subjective, often
disagreed on, and no one feeling or belief

Spain’s Golden Age and the Reign of Philip II Essay examples
Spain s Golden Age and the Reign of Philip II
A golden age can be interpreted in many ways; it can be a time of great power for a monarch, or a
country. It can be described as a time when some activity is at its peak, or as a period of great peace,
prosperity and happiness. I will look at the period 1474 1598 to see if any of the monarchs reigns meet
any of these interpretations of a golden age .
The kingdom of Aragon had its own Cortes, which limited Ferdinand s power as he was subject to the
fueros[1]. In Castile however, the Cortes were relatively powerless; not necessary to pass laws and
had little interest in taxation. No Cortes was called between 1480 and 1498, which is ... Show more

However, this new system had a limited effect, as they were merely extensions of Ferdinand and
Isabella s councils of Aragon and Castile for example, the Council of the Indies, and were only used to
deal with new territories. Charles was still the source of all power, and the Councils only offered
advice to him. Therefore, the administration did not change much, and changes that were made were
almost ad hoc, as efficiency was only improved because of financial needs.
Philip II had many advisors, but he made the final decisions, and Philip wanted to see all paperwork,
even small matters like planning permission. This made the administration very slow, as Philip could
not look at all the paperwork from all of Spain and his other territories. However, Philip did build a
castle in Madrid, where he lived and this meant that the administration was stationary, not like with his
father and Ferdinand and Isabella; wherever they went. This did improve the administration a little,
but not by very much; he was too slow at making decisions and he wanted to know all the facts before
he made a decision but rarely he got all of the facts.
The administration of Spain did not contribute to any of the monarch s reigns being a golden age . It
did not change much in the period 1474 1598, and the monarchs did not improve it enough; therefore

Water And Its Properties That Makes It A Essential For All...
1. Introduction
Water and its properties are very essential for all living things. In fact, scientists are paying close
attention to presence of liquid water on other planets in efforts to find extraterrestrial life in space.
Water has properties that makes it a key role to sustain life 1. As it is a universal solvent, it acts as a
medium for most biochemical reactions 2. Without water, it is impossible for a living thing to
function. Zooming out, water is important in daily life as many aspects depend on water. Water is used
for domestic and industrial purposes. On average, people in the United States drink 110 million gallon
of water everyday 3. In total, 400 billion gallon of water is used in United states everyday 4. Natural
freshwater is not completely pure. It contains solute dissolved from erosion of minerals and dissolved
gases from the atmosphere 5. Calcium, Ca2+, and magnesium, Mg2+, are the most common and
abundant solutes found in natural waters. This is due to the presence of natural minerals such as
limestone and dolomite 6. The hardness of water is defined as the concentration of dissolved mineral
cations, mainly calcium and magnesium, in water. Therefore, by this definition, a hard water contains
high concentration of solutes and a soft water contains low concentration of solutes 5. The following
table shows the water hardness category according to the United States Department of Interior and the
Water Quality Association 7.

The Taxation Of South Africa
(Alternative version to first line Just as an egg will vary from hen to hen, so do tax systems from
country to country. )
As there are no two eggs that are identical, tax systems vary from country to country. Each country
has its own rules and principles to levy taxes from its citizens and foreigners to whom it conducts
business in order to support its operations. South Africa is no different. When a country s own people
conduct business, or foreigners invest or trade within its domestic jurisdiction, it is necessary for the
tax system to balance carefully its domestic and international economic objectives. It is essential to
understand how the taxation system is applied to residents and non residents in order to maximize one

Income is taxed in the country where that income originates, irrespective of the legal or physical
residence of the recipient. Even though South Africa Adopted the residence based system in 2011,
many states will still tax the income derived by a person from commercial activities undertaken in
their states. A source based system of tax imposes a taxation liability on income arising within a
specific jurisdiction or territory.
From the Appellate Division of Kerguelen Sealing Whaling Co., Ltd v CIR ˡ, the fundamental logic of
a residence based tax system has been contrasted to that of a source based system in the following: In
some countries residence (or domicile) is made the test of liability for the reason, presumably, that
residents, for the privilege and protection of residence, can justly be called upon to contribute towards
the cost of good order and government of the country that shelters him. In others (as in ours) the
principle of liability adopted is source of income : again, presumably, the equity of the levy rests on
the assumption that a country that produces wealth by reason of its natural resources or the activities
of its inhabitants is entitled to a share of that wealth, wherever the recipients of it may be live. In both
systems there is, of course, the assumption that the country adopting the one or the other has effective
means to enforce the levy.
For tax purposes, it is important to know how

  • 2. Death In Mary Oliver s Sleeping In The Forest Mary Oliver s poem, Sleeping in the Forest, presents a peaceful and vivid representation of death and its relationship with nature. As the poem begins, the reader is introduced to the earth welcoming the speaker back into the realm of nature. Man was created from the dust of the earth and when we die, our bodies return to the dust. However, this poem presents a more beautiful image of what death is composed of. Death is often portrayed as being frightening and disturbing. When individuals are presented with the thought of death, they often push this thought away out of fear and ignorance. Everyone will die someday whether we ignore the thought of death or not. However, Oliver creates a relaxing and welcoming image for the reader on what death (ideally) is. Obviously, since Oliver is still alive, she doesn t know what death feels like. However, the way she describes death, I hope that it feels like sleeping in a forest; full of stars and enchantment. The enchantment in this poem begins by the earth welcoming the speaker back home. This speaker expresses that, She took me back so tenderly. This statement exemplifies to the reader that death is not a scary process. In this case, the earth is being portrayed as a woman. This is significant because women are often portrayed as being nurturing and caring. For the reader, this can trigger memories or ideas of who the reader would picture the earth as. Whether that be a mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, etc. the reader can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Pathway To Citizenship If it were up to you, and you had the choice whether or not to give undocumented citizens a chance at citizenship, would you? Many people believe that they should not have a chance at citizenship because they came here illegally. Every person has their own opinion on this topic. This debate is one of many debates going on in between the candidates or even the politicians, but of course they all have their own views and reasons on it. Everyone should consider that they should because either we are hurting families or they can help improve our economy. In the next three paragraphs this argument will be influencing you to side with my claim, that undocumented citizens should get a pathway to citizenship. One important reason that undocumented residents should be allowed a pathway to citizenship is that many of them have american ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not just in money but in resources, we use more resources to deport or capture undocumented citizens than we can really afford. According to Senator Schumer, Upfront magazine 2016, Without reform, our immigration laws threaten to tear apart families and force our government to expend precious resources to deport millions. What Senator Schumer is making clear is that the government is spending too much money on resources to deport undocumented citizens when instead they could find a way to make some if not all undocumented citizens a path to citizenship. Some people might argue that if undocumented citizens cooperated with the law or government there wouldn t be an issue. This might be true but maybe if the government didn t assume that all undocumented citizens are criminals and deport them instead of giving them a chance at citizenship, there would also be no issue. The key point is that instead of focusing on kicking undocumented citizens out, we should be focusing on making it possible for them to stay as legal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Critique Of Rendition Current Topic Critique II Rendition is a legal tool used by the U.S Government to transfer captured individuals from one country to another without going through formal extradition procedures (Rosenbach and Peritz, 2010). This process can be described as the governments terrorist catching tool, and like most government tools has been the subject of controversy regarding civil liberties. Catching Mir Aimal Kasi is described by Rosenbach and Peritz (2010) as the poster child for the good that properly using rendition can do, while Jane Mayer (2008) shows what happens when it is used with no accountability when she shares the story of Maher Arar. Extraordinary rendition is an even more streamlined version of rendition, it is rendition that does not require consent from the other nation involved. The use of rendition is among the most controversial pieces of U.S policy on the global stage. Legal Rendition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The textbook example of this is the capture and rendition of Mir Aimal Kasi, who gunned down two CIA employees outside the CIA headquarters building in 1993. Mir Aimal Kasi managed to flee the scene and escape to Pakistan, where he would hide for several years (Rosenbach and Peritz, 2010). Four years later a joint CIA and Pakistani operation would capture him and use the rendition process to hastily get him back to the U.S to stand trial (Rosenbach and Peritz, 2010). When both governments are afraid of keeping the detainee in the country where captured due to anti American sentiments in the local population or various other reasons, the rendition process is used to quickly and quietly move them to the U.S. By using rendition, instead of extradition, the host country can avoid any potential political backlash by speeding up the process and not keeping the detainee any longer than they ... • 5. Models Of Health And The Biopsychosocial Model Of Health Models of Health The World Heath Organization defines health as being a state of wholeness in a person s mental, physical, and social well being (Gurung, 2014). Different models of health are used worldwide to assist in achieving this state. Two widely used models of health in the United States include the biomedical model of health and the biopsychosocial model of health. They both strive to help individuals and communities achieve wholeness, while approaching this in different manners. Each model of health has strengths, drawbacks, and practical uses in the field of medicine. The biomedical model of health takes into account the physical or biological quality of life and is widely used in the Western medicine approach to health (Gurung, 2104). A basic assumption of this model is that the mind and body connection is irrelevant. Many advances in medicine have occured because of the biomedical model of health. In using evidence based medicine it has been possible to evaluate the results of clinical and pharmaceutical research in order to make strides in medicine (Ashton, 1999). It takes advantage of algorithmic treatment options. Even though this approach may be more difficult for a psychiatrist to utilize when diagnosing and treating a patient, this model has radically shaped psychotherapy research and psychiatric medication (Deacon, 2013). The biomedical approach lends itself more readily to research because of its quantitative nature and it is less subjective than the biopsychosocial approach when measuring emotions and culture. The biopsychosocial model of health is a multidimensional approach to health (Lecture 1, 2014). It focuses not only on the biology or physiology of a person, but also includes the psychology of a person and the manner in which society and culture influence health as well (Gurung, 2014). It was developed in the 21st century as an important theoretical framework to approaching health and medicine (Richtig, Trapp, Kapfhamer, Jenull, Richtig Trapp, 2016).This approach makes the assumption that the mind and body connection is not only relevant but also vital to a person s entire well being. It takes a holistic approach when treating an individual and can improve health in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Argumentative Essay Boxing Boxing a violent cage fight, or a crowd pleasing sport? Boxing is a high intensified sport that can be seen as helping the fighter in life or permanently damaging the fighters future. Many say that boxing is one of the safest sports; however, boxing can leave permanent brain damage from constant punches to the skull. The sport boxing is for managers to earn money while their fighter is in the ring fighting against another human until one gives up, or gets knocked out. A fight could be the end of one s career, or even one s life. Boxing should be banned because the money earned does not trump the risk of death, the mixed messages from fighters in the ring confuse the laws regarding assault, and the constant punches to and athletes head leaves permanent damage. The death of one is not worth the money earned from winning a fight. This is important to realize because the expense of one s life is worth way more than the winnings of a cage fight. In On Boxing, Joyce asserts directly why she thinks boxing is not a humanized sport: In the boxing ring, even in our greatly humanized times, death is always a possibility which is why some of us prefer to watch films or tapes of fights already past, already defined as history (source c). Joyce is stating that many watch tapes from the past when boxing first started because it was much safer then, than it is now. Also in On Boxing, Carol states directly her opinion for the sport boxing: In no other sport can so much take ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Fear From The Town In A Rose For Emily Alive, Miss Emily had been a tradition, a duty, and a care; a sort of hereditary obligation upon the town, dating from that day in 1894 when Colonel Sartoris (Faulkner I). Emily abandoned with no wealth but a house from her father s will. Her father was the man in her life that took control and isolated Emily by enabling her to have a husband and a proper life. Emily creates her own illusions, a reality that permanently detaches herself from the real world. First, Emily s snobbish persona intimidates and scare away any town folks because she lacks affection from love ones and human interaction. The town is afraid of disturbing Emily because from a pungent smell that lingered her home, Dammit, sir, Judge Stevens said, will you accuse a lady to her face of smelling bad? (Faulkner II). This may seem like a random list of things that have no significance to each other at all, but they all in fact have something in common. The common thread that links these things is Leonardo Da Vinci. Leonardo has impacted the world of engineering in so many different ways, it is almost impossible to count them all. He is considered to be the father of numerous innovations and designs and some of his original works are still being referenced today. This essay will discuss Leonardo and how his inventions were not only masterpieces in his time, but also how they provided a foundation for future engineers to build from. It all started in the little town of Vinci, just twenty two miles outside of Florence, Italy (DaVinci Tech). Leonardo da Vinci was born on April fifteenth, 1452, to a family that was not very wealthy; so he could not afford any form of education (Leonardo da Vinci). Despite this, Leonardo s designs were still way beyond his time. Leonardo lived in Vinci for some time, but eventually moved to Milan, a military based city at the time, where he drew some of his first designs. Milan s environment stimulated his military inventions. Today, military vehicles and items are very commonly seen around the world, and a lot of them originated from Da Vinci s designs. Most notably he authored Common Sense and The Rights of Man . Sense Paine was so successful and influential during his time, a look at his works will give great insight into the American philosophy of the late 1700s. This philosophy typically consisting of the opposition of tyranny and the idea of revolution. The line Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph definitely personifies this point (Paine). The quote If there must be trouble let it be in my, that my child may have peace does an equal if not better job of personifying the previous point of revolution (Paine). As stated previously, to have an idea of the American philosophy of the time, it is pertinent that we should look at more than one of Paine s works. There is a quote from The Rights of Man that depicts a philosophy similar to that of Jefferson s. This quote states that Man has no property in man (Paine 32). • 16. Play Critique Of Man And Superman By George Bernard Shaw Man and Superman Play Critique Man and Superman, written by George Bernard Shaw, is a comedy of ideas which was based in late 19th century London. The play primarily revolves around John Tanner. It begins as news arrives of the death of Mr. Whitefield, who is Ann s father. The first dilemma begins as Mr. Ramsden and Jack argue over who will care for Ann and her sister and who will eventually marry Ann. There is also the problem that comes with Violet, as she is secretly married and pregnant. Later in the play, Jack encounters the famous womanizer Don Juan in a dream, who he confers with about the idea of marriage. Throughout the duration of the play, the viewer is able to dissect the playwright s mind and the directors and actors choices. The play focuses on the idea of Ubermensch , which is German for superman . Shaw gives his Ubermensch qualities such as superior intellect, intuition, and self defined virtues. The theme of the play is the barriers that the evolution of the superman encounters, one of which according to Shaw is marriage. The institution of marriage is a barrier as it strengthens the division of social classes and hinders copulation. It was also heavily influenced by power and property acquisition. It is criticized in the play as Violet keeps her marriage a secret from her family and others because her husband is of a lesser social class. An additional issue is if the past one time severance benefit offered to employees being terminated could be considered an enhancement to an ongoing benefit arrangement. With such an array of cultures present, one would assume that Australian education systems would have endless bilingual programs in place. However, this is not the case. Despite the successes of bilingual education on a global scale, little effort has been made to preserve any Australian languages, meaning that language death has become an everyday factor that Indigenous individuals have to deal with (Wurm, 1991). Thus, in its broadest sense, bicultural education is the teaching of two ways of life (Harris, 1978). Bilingual Education The Transition from Theory to Practice Despite bilingual education s apparent successes on paper, the transition from theory to practice determines whether the program will succeed or fail. An evidential reason of why bilingual programs fail in schools, particularly in the Australian context, is that they are treated as transfer bilingual programs, rather than the maintenance model (Harris, 1978). Americans, at this point, were not to fond of Ali. They continued to call him Cassius Clay and rooted for him to lose in upcoming matches, but Ali continued to be unstoppable in the ring. As the years went on Ali went on winning but the years were passing and that was having some affect on him. In 1970 Muhammad fought against Jerry Quarry and even though Ali did win the fight it was noticeable that he was moving slower than he did in the late 1960 s. He began taking more punches instead of dodging and dancing from them like he used to do, but he was also stronger this time around. Out to recapture the title of Heavyweight Champion, Ali jumped back into training camp to train. The bout was one of three legendary fights between Ali and Frazier. Since the title was taken from him and was not lost in the ring many people felt Ali was still rightfully the Heavyweight Champion. Ali openly ridiculed Frazier showing lack of fear for his opponent. Despite all of Ali s negative remarks, Frazier was a tough opponent. The actual fight was even in the early rounds, but Ali was absorbing more punishment than he ever did before. In the fifteenth round the unthinkable happened: Frazier hit Ali on the jaw with a bone crushing left hook and that knocked him to the canvas. Ali did bounce back up as fast as he went down, but when the fight ended, it was clear that Frazier was the winner. It was Ali s first professional loss but he was not ready to ... A town put on the map for its richness in anthracite coal that burns long and hot, though the mine had been closed for years but far from empty. Though the people of the town knew nothing of what lurked below and went about their everyday lives which included burning trash at the municipal dump like people did in that time. As the fire burned it creep into the ground and was lit ablaze by coal long left behind, striking the beginning of the end for the small, unsuspecting Pennsylvania town. The flared for about a month and when workers finally dug back the burned earth they found it had burned much deeper than they thought. Coal is created by plants that died and fell to the ground, then this plant matter is waterlogged by rainfall by things like sediment and other plant matter compressing it until over time it is compressed into a carbon rich rock that burns easily known as coal. Like any fire, coal will only burn if it has a constant supply of three things; fuel, heat, and oxygen. The best way to put out any fire is to deprive it of one of those to things, the easiest being heat or oxygen, problem is coal can burn in an environment with as little as 1% or 2% oxygen and the air that we breathe has about 21% oxygen and pre existing cracks in rocks permit airflow straight to the fire.(Palus) (Perkins) The second option is to smother the flames and deprive the fire of its heat source, but the fire was ... • 30. Supporting Moral Subjectivism To begin, the term moral subjectivism implies that beliefs are individualized and correct for the said individual. In essence, there is no real definitive truth that can be applied to moral sentences or beliefs. For example, two people can have beliefs about the number 13 (or number 4 in the Chinese culture) One highly religious person can believe it s the devil s number and will lead to murder, chaos, and violence and for another person, possibly of a different moral code or of time period, (such as the ancient Egyptians), it can be their lucky or spiritual number. • 31. Spain’s Golden Age and the Reign of Philip II Essay examples Spain s Golden Age and the Reign of Philip II A golden age can be interpreted in many ways; it can be a time of great power for a monarch, or a country. It can be described as a time when some activity is at its peak, or as a period of great peace, prosperity and happiness. I will look at the period 1474 1598 to see if any of the monarchs reigns meet any of these interpretations of a golden age . The kingdom of Aragon had its own Cortes, which limited Ferdinand s power as he was subject to the fueros[1]. In Castile however, the Cortes were relatively powerless; not necessary to pass laws and had little interest in taxation. No Cortes was called between 1480 and 1498, which is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, this new system had a limited effect, as they were merely extensions of Ferdinand and Isabella s councils of Aragon and Castile for example, the Council of the Indies, and were only used to deal with new territories. Charles was still the source of all power, and the Councils only offered advice to him. Therefore, the administration did not change much, and changes that were made were almost ad hoc, as efficiency was only improved because of financial needs. Philip II had many advisors, but he made the final decisions, and Philip wanted to see all paperwork, even small matters like planning permission. This made the administration very slow, as Philip could not look at all the paperwork from all of Spain and his other territories. However, Philip did build a castle in Madrid, where he lived and this meant that the administration was stationary, not like with his father and Ferdinand and Isabella; wherever they went. This did improve the administration a little, but not by very much; he was too slow at making decisions and he wanted to know all the facts before he made a decision but rarely he got all of the facts. The administration of Spain did not contribute to any of the monarch s reigns being a golden age . It did not change much in the period 1474 1598, and the monarchs did not improve it enough; therefore ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Thousands of hours of therapy have yielded a few ideas from the good doctors. They are often feminine, in a Dick and Jane, pink vs. puppy dog tails sort of way. Or they re flat out negative. Looking down at them, realising that pain you had given yourself, just isn t as surreal as it used to be. You re breathing heavily now, saying to yourself It s time to go. Repeating those four words over and over again. School just couldn t have been worse today, and of course your parents were yet again fighting around your wooden eight seater dining table at breakfast today. You can t seem to find anyway out of your depression, you ve battled it for years, striving for some kind of incentive. Maybe you were just looking for that serendipity that never came. No one is home, you believe it s the perfect opportunity. You take a deep breath and think if you don t do this now, you, and everyone around you is just going to look down on you, hating you forever. You see it as some kind of game, that such a horrific thing like taking your life could actually be humourous. It s not, nobody is laughing and they re never going to. You gather up the rope, the video camera and the chair because you re just that desperate to leave. You re not even thinking clearly now. You re standing on the chair in your spacious bedroom. Each country has its own rules and principles to levy taxes from its citizens and foreigners to whom it conducts business in order to support its operations. South Africa is no different. When a country s own people conduct business, or foreigners invest or trade within its domestic jurisdiction, it is necessary for the tax system to balance carefully its domestic and international economic objectives. Income is taxed in the country where that income originates, irrespective of the legal or physical residence of the recipient. Even though South Africa Adopted the residence based system in 2011, many states will still tax the income derived by a person from commercial activities undertaken in their states. A source based system of tax imposes a taxation liability on income arising within a specific jurisdiction or territory. From the Appellate Division of Kerguelen Sealing Whaling Co., Ltd v CIR ˡ, the fundamental logic of a residence based tax system has been contrasted to that of a source based system in the following: In some countries residence (or domicile) is made the test of liability for the reason, presumably, that residents, for the privilege and protection of residence, can justly be called upon to contribute towards the cost of good order and government of the country that shelters him. In others (as in ours) the principle of liability adopted is source of income : again, presumably, the equity of the levy rests on the assumption that a country that produces wealth by reason of its natural resources or the activities of its inhabitants is entitled to a share of that wealth, wherever the recipients of it may be live. In both systems there is, of course, the assumption that the country adopting the one or the other has effective means to enforce the levy. For tax purposes, it is important to know how ...
