Bp and Stakeholder Mismanagement
Thesis
Poor stakeholder management led to preventable mishaps such as the disasters in Alaska and Texas.
Specifically, BP s defensive approach towards stakeholder management led to lavish compensation for
upper level management while creating hazardous working conditions for employees and a burden on
all of society in the form of rising oil prices and environmental damage.
Background
British Petroleum was founded in 1908 and since then has rapidly grown to become the eighth largest
company in the world . However, as of late, BP has come under fire for several high profile disasters,
including the Texas City refinery explosion and the Prudhoe Bay oil spill.
In 2005, an explosion occurred at BP s refinery at Texas City. ... Show more content on

The US Chemical Safety Board stated that there is a solid case for citing some fault on cost cutting in
the Texas City disaster. In fact was BP aggressively cut maintenance investment in their refinery by
84% between the years 1992 2000 . Additionally BP lacked many company wide safety standards and
left the decision making to plant managers, a position which had a high turnover rate . Cost cutting
was eventually handed down to the employees in the form of a hazardous work place, with 15 deaths
and over 170 others injured in the Texas City explosion.
Stakeholder Snapshot: Society
BP s negligence and lackluster response to the Prudhoe Bay oil spill caused damage to the surrounding
environment and forced a spike in oil prices, drawing intense criticism and scrutiny from the Federal
government and the American public.
BP s handling of the cleanup has raised serious questions about the concern the company has for the
environment. Five months following the accident, 17,000 gallons of crude oil remained to be drained
from the surrounding areas of the pipeline . Following the accident, BP has faced pressure from the
Justice Department, the Environmental Protection Agency, and Congress due to the environmental
damage. Prior to the spill, the company was already being investigated by the EPA for possible
violations of the U.S. Clean Water Act due to pipeline corrosion. It now faces a grand jury
investigation which may lead to

Examples Of Indecision In Hamlet
Indecision, by dictionary definition is simply the inability to make decisions quickly. However,
indecision itself is not actually such an intelligible term, but rather an overly complex one that dips
into the intricate nature of the human mindset. This becomes even more accurate when the act of
indecisiveness is paired with compelling circumstances. Oftentimes human beings are required to act
irrationally because their circumstances force them to do so. Our opinions and actions seem
justifiable, yet they may also come across as deceitful and immoral. The overriding internal conflict of
choosing between personal desire and what is morally correct becomes the central aspect of many
human trials. William Shakespeare, the writer of many well known ... Show more content on

Ophelia is Hamlet s love interest throughout the entire play. However, in an attempt to be strategic,
Hamlet feigns insanity in order to be deceiving and in turn breaks Ophelia s heart. His sudden
disinterest towards her coupled with her father Polonius and brother Laertes commands to stay away
from Hamlet composes a dire internal conflict within Ophelia s mind. She is torn between her undying
love for Hamlet versus her desire to be an obedient daughter and sister. In addition, Hamlet
unintentionally murders Polonius rather than Claudius, which also adds to Ophelia s insanity. To make
matter worse, Ophelia has no mother figure within her life. So taken all together, she is stuck in a
constant battle within herself with nobody who is there for her. I hope all will be well. We must be
patient/ but I cannot choose but weep/ to think they would lay him/ i th cold ground (Hamlet v, iv).
This quote from Ophelia demonstrates her deep sorrow towards her father s death, as well as the start
of her path to insanity. Her lack of a maternal figure leaves her with nobody to discuss her feelings
and troubles with. Because of this constant battle within her life, Ophelia finds herself in a
confrontation with her emotions, which ends in her official decision of suicide. Which one could argue
makes her decisive in the end which may be true, but her internal struggle leading to her choice of
suicide is what makes her a great example of a character struggling with uncertainty during times of

Antonio Ricci Bicycle Thieves

Antonio Ricci: The Bicycle Thief
Antonio Ricci, the protagonist of Vittorio De Sica s Bicycle Thieves, inhabits an Italy torn apart by the
Second World War. The decaying city streets and mass poverty is a far cry from the society united
under communism envisioned by earlier neorealist filmmakers. De Sica uses Ricci to critique
capitalism, as well to document the struggle of the masses in Post War Italy. The theft of his Bicycle
sends Ricci, along with De Sica s camera, across Rome and into the depths of Roman society.
The film emphasizes the rift between the upper and lower classes of Italy. The job Ricci lands at the
beginning of film has him putting up posters featuring Rita Hayworth, a reminder of Hollywood
idealism and a symbol of American wealth and glamour. Ricci later claims that movies bore him,
perhaps echoing the sentiments of the neorealists. The restaurant scene juxtaposes Ricci and his son,
Bruno, with a bourgeois family sitting at another table. The staff act contemptuously towards the
protagonists, avoiding eye contact and hurriedly delivering their food, furthermore their table is the
only one in the entire restaurant without a tablecloth, De Sica suggests that capitalism is not only the
division of wealth, but the division of people. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After he loses it, he seems to value its return as much as he values his own family. He repeatedly fails
to consider his son s well being in his unrelenting quest to locate the bike, marching onward as Bruno
trips and falls behind him. Capitalism in effect corrupts and distorts Ricci s values and morals. The
bicycle itself works as a symbol of this corruption, a material possession (like money), that becomes
almost a physiological need within a capitalist

It is this mix of key factors that has empowered Boston Pizza to serve a bigger number of clients in a
greater number of areas than many other full service restaurants in Canada (BP International Inc.,
2014). Background Authoritative structure and outline help organizations to comprehend themselves
and in a perfect world to cooperate to perform all the assignments and accomplish all the objectives of
an organization. Frequently when a company is small and beginning up, it ignores both of these ideas
while it makes sense of its character, errands, capacities and everything authoritative structure and
outline help put in place. Contrastingly, when Gus Agioritis opened his little Boston Pizza and
Spaghetti House in 1964, his technique was to develop the restaurant by concentrating on franchising.
Take on a similar mindset as a client, convey extraordinary sustenance and quality, and work nearly
with your accomplices. (BP International Inc., 2014). Boston Pizza has conquered this by
concentrating on the three mainstays of achievement, which are the scenery for all choice making that
has supported the advancement and accomplishment of Boston Pizza. The three pillars of this concrete
pizzeria are responsibility to the franchisee benefit, responsibility for building the Boston Pizza brand,
duty to persistently enhancing the client experience. One of the first franchisees was a RCMP (Royal

Five Practices Of Exemplary Leadership Analysis
The first of the Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership is Model the Way. In this practice, leaders
ascertain their inner voice, values and beliefs in order to affirm shared values with their constituents
(Kouzes Posner, 2012). Leaders must clarify their own values if they aspire to support shared values
amongst their team. They accomplish this task by identifying the values and beliefs that are important
to them and the supporting reasons. Subsequently, the leader would communicate those values with
their constituents and in return ask for their values and beliefs with a goal to unify the team. Lastly, a
leader will walk the talk and follow the values that they communicate with their subordinates.
Inspire a Shared Vision is the second practice of exemplary leadership. Leaders envision the future
and enlist other in a common vision through shared aspirations (Kouzes Posner, 2012). The
possibilities of the organization are immeasurable when a leader believes that people can truly make a
difference. Within this practice, leaders believe that they can make a difference and visualize inventive
methods to improve the processes and practices of today. In addition, they connect with their
constituents to understand their ambitions in hopes to align their vision with the motivations of the
team.

The Effects Of Leishmaniasis And Its Effects On The North...
In the United States people tend to take a lot for granted, such as: vaccinations, medications,
availability of doctors , or even the simple satisfaction of walking outside barefoot. Leishmaniasis, a
parasitic disease also known as the sand fly disease, is caused by Leishmania parasites and is
transmitted by the bite of infected sand flies. Leishmaniasis is both a subtropical and tropical disease
found in over ninety countries. This disease ranges from the Western Hemisphere to the Eastern
Hemisphere (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, CDC 2013). It is found most frequently in
India, Iran, Peru, Brazil, and Columbia (Medicine Net 2014). According to the Bridging Research and

Step two, the protozoan s that are exposed to the open wound are then engulfed by macrophages. Step
three, the promastigotes flagellate stage transfers into a tissue stage known as, amastigotes.
Amastigotes are distinguished as a developed protozoan because it has no visible external flagella or
cilia. Step four, the amastigotes then multiply by cell division and continue to infect other cells. Step
five, another bite from another sand fly occurs, now this sand fly injects macrophages infected with
amastigotes. Step six, is the step of ingestion of the parasitized cell. Step seven, amastigotes transform
to promastigotes stage in mid gut, meaning they increase in size and develop a long flagella to swim
and infect throughout the human body. Step eight, is the division of mid gut to proboscis, in other
words the transformation of a protozoan to a sucking organ of insects inside the body (CDC 2014).

Leishmaniasis is not the only disease with these symptoms. With that being said,

Nucleophilic Substitution Reaction Lab Report
Substitution Reactions, Purification, and Identification Introduction (Q:1 2) An unknown
(nucleophile) was subjected to SN2 reaction when combined with benzyl bromide (electrophile) in a
sodium hydroxide (base) solution. The experiment provided a clear understanding in conducting
nucleophilic substitution reaction where heat must be applied in order for the SN2 reaction to move
forward. The goal was to determine the unknown by incorporating knowledge of polarity, the laws of
physics, and the role of energy when forming crystals; like dissolves like , matter cannot be created
nor destroyed . (Q3:Techniques) Melting point, recrystallization, and thin layer chromatography
(TLC) mediated the ability to find which unknown nucleophile was provided ... Show more content on

This was concluded by combining information on melting points and TLC; melting range narrowed
when filtered product was mixed with the standard product. Also, the Rf value of the pure product is
closely related to the Rf value of the standard. TLC of filtrate showed no movement of the substance
in the mixture under 9:1 ratio declaring the substance to be extremely polar. Of the three potential
unknown reactants, 4 methoxyphenol would be the most polar and therefore would travel least up the
TLC plate. (Q14:Yield) 81.2% product yield was collected. Matter cannot be created nor destroyed ,
therefore some product could have filtered through. TLC of filtrate confirmed remnants of product
present. Filtering the filtrate could have increased the yield. (Q15:Recovery) The percent recovery of
the product makes sense because it is the mass of the crystallized product divided by the crude
product: 94.9%. The percentage reflects the mass of pure product (without the presence of impurities).
(Q16:MP) Melting point coincides with the unknown nucleophile being 4 methoxyphenol because
when the standard product was combined with our pure product, the melting range narrowed. When
compared to the melting ranges obtained when mixed with the other two possible products the melting
ranges significantly decreased and widened. This is often an indication of impurities being present, but

Frank is in the hospital, and the doctors are trying to cool him down. Jones and Drix reach Thrax, but

daughter s eye. As Jones and Thrax fight, Thrax falls off Frank s daughter s eyelash, lands in alcohol,
then disintegrates. Frank s daughter is crying i the hospital room because she think her dad is dead.
Jones go back into the body(endocytosis) by his daughter s tear. The tears land on Frank s body, and

Science Astronomy Nebula Essay
Science Astronomy
Nebulas
What are nebulas? How did they come about? Nebulas are made up of dust, hydrogen helium and
plasma. Nebulas, essentially gaseous clouds, are formed. A supernova is a star that collapses under its
own gravity after it dramatically increases in its brightness. The first nebula, Dumbbell Nebula M27,
was discovered by Charles Messier on July 12 1764. In 1784 William Herschel invented the name
Planetary nebula after he had started comprehensively scanning the deep sky and discovered a famous
planetary nebula, the Saturn Nebula NGC 7009 in 1782. The nebula theory, states that this theory is
the most accepted evolutionary theory for the formation of the solar system from a cloud of gas and
dust particles known as a nebula. The process starts with a rotating cloud of gas and dust that contracts
and flattens to form a disk around a star forming at its centre. Planets grow from the dust and gas in
the disk and are left behind when the disk clears. The process of a nebula forming is linked to the

Many people question how the solar system was made and a theory was developed by Emanuel
Swedenborg, Immanuel Kant, and Pierre Simon Laplace. This theory provides more evidence for
society to believe. The solar system is thought to be created from enormous spinning cloud. This cloud
was made up of gas and dust. The core of a cloud grew under the influence of gravity and as a result it
became denser and hotter. Material was collected into the core and the cloud increased in speed and
became flat, almost like a disk shape. As the cloud became increasingly hotter the cloud generated
enough energy to create a nuclear fusion. The light gas was distributed far out in the solar system. This
light gas left rocky materials and metallic that had high melting points were left behind. These
materials clumped together caused by mutual gravity and formed

Taking Back The Vote
For a nation to truly develop everybody should participate in voting. If everyone will vote then the
elected representative will be someone who will represent the believes and values of everyone or at
least the majority. In that way, when the representative will do something for the nation, everyone will
be able to be benefited from it. However, it is a harsh reality of our society that young people vote at
lower rates than other age groups. There are a lot of reasons for that, for example, I think most young
people are not interested enough in what the politicians are claiming to in their campaign. Most
politician talks about health care, better economy, and external relations. These topics do not seem
interesting to young people because in most cases they have not been in a situations where they
needed any of those, for example, in most cases senior people need health care, middle age group need
to worry about the economy because they need to feed their kids, and authorities need to worry about
external affairs. Hence, young people end up not voting because their issues are not being discussed in
the election campaign. According to Jane Eisner s book Taking Back the Vote, it is two processes. In
one side, young people do not vote because their issues are not discussed in the election campaigns,
and on another side, the politicians ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Canada And Japan Comparison Essay
You might think Canada and Japan would be very different! You are wrong, but also kind of right, I
guess. Why, you might be asking? Because ultimately, they have a lot in common, from the type of
government to the environment, but they also have a lot, and I mean A LOT, of differences, such as
beliefs, culture, and landscape. If you want some more in depth content about the two countries, well,
this project is for you! In these ten categories that I m giving you, there are some similarities and some
differences between Canada and Japan.

people consider that impolite, so instead they talk soft and quietly. If you have ever been to Japan or
will go there, you will notice they are very quiet and soft. Although the Japanese do not prefer to talk
as dry wittingly and sarcastically as Canadians, physical and slapstick comedy is more popular with
the Japanese. In both countries, men and women have equal rights, but gender roles vary. In Canada,
men and women can both go to work (e.g., if women go to work, men stay back to take care of the
family), but in Japan the men do all the work and women leave their jobs after having children to be
housewives and take care of the children, although some women may go back to their jobs after their
children are a little bit more grown up. In Japan, most parents will want children to focus on getting
better academic grades, whereas in Canada, parents may be a little more free about homework and
will want their children to get out and play more. For example, In Japan, parents may get children to

The Effects Of Autonomous Cars On Society Essay

Argumentative Essay While researching articles about autonomous cars, I found a few authors who
wrote about the effects of autonomous cars on society and whether or not these should be introduced
to our world s roads. On one hand, some authors believe self driving cars should not be allowed on
roads. They believe this revolution in the change of cars will destroy large industries which includes
the auto insurance industry, parking industry, and auto aftermarket industry. However, with the
expansion of these new technologies, it could introduce new industries as well. Some say autonomous
cars draw questions of ethicality with accidents because there is not a human driving the vehicle. The
truth is, human drivers cause a shocking amount of accidents each year which could be greatly
decreased by autonomous cars. My goal in this paper is to argue that autonomous or self driving cars
should be introduced to our world s roads because there will be less accidents, massive economic
benefits, and a more efficient form of transportation. To achieve this goal, I have organized my paper
into three sections. In this first section, I will provide evidence and discuss the amount of accidents
human drivers create on the roads. I will then explain how self driving cars can limit the amount of
accidents and discuss the ethics of autonomous cars. In the second section, I will explain how
autonomous cars can benefit the

climate of discontent. On January 9 a large peaceful procession of workers and their families led by a
priest, marched to the winter palace in ST. Petersburg to present Nicholas with a petition asking for

Bloody Sunday in the history. The people of USSR were consequently, shocked and outraged.
Moreover, riots and demonstrations broke out across the country and continued through the whole

Transformative Power Of Travel
The Transformative Power of Travel Travel has the ability to take an individual out of their mundane
routine and places them into a whole new world where their brains are free from the repetition that
keeps them trapped. This sense of independence allows them to explore and discover their true
identity apart from their daily life. Pico Iyer s short essay, Why We Travel discusses the notion that
travel is a complex, powerful, and necessary tool for self discovery and knowledge. Alfred Hitchcock
s 1950 s film North by Northwest tells the tale of mistaken identity of a two timed divorced
advertising executive, Roger Thornhill, who finds himself on the run and in constant imminent danger.
One of Iyer s main topics of travel is the rediscovery ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then, Roger gives a face to the name George Kaplan by stepping into George Kaplans hotel room,
and essentially into his life. Everyone around him slowly fails to recognize Roger as Roger, but as
George. His face is even plastered on the newspapers as murder, George Kaplan. Policemen see his
face and recognize him as George Kaplan, not Roger. With this absolute new identity, Roger is forced
to notice the manipulative behaviors that others impose on him as he loses his status. Roger discovers
that the professor did not fully disclose that by putting himself in danger he would not actually save
Kendall. These heroic actions actually sent his love off to another country with an evil man. Roger
grew furious. While at the beginning of the movie, Roger felt no disregard for giving a man false hope
of doing something good. However, now that the professor turned the tables and did the same thing to
Roger he begins to fight for Kendall by stating that this is no way to treat a woman. This marks a
major character transformation in Roger Thornhill. Not only does Roger discover what manipulation
feels like, but he also becomes a man that truly cares for a woman rather than just seeing them as
pawns. He essentially sees his reflection in the water and realizes that he doesn t agree with
manipulation and the poor treatment of women as sexual symbols for even the

Use Of Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm Essay
Abstract Internet of Things (IoT) nodes create vulnerabilities exposed to malicious software attacks.
Thus, security is necessary to maintain growth in the IoT technology. This paper will focus on the use
of Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) as a digital authenticator for use in the IoT.
Although ECDSA improves security, it comes at the cost of computational complexity in comparison
to authentication methods that use ciphers that are symmetric or simple hashes. This complexity often
causes significant limitations in devices applied in the IoT, where resources are restricted. This paper
will mainly focus on speed and memory performances, and will briefly cover other constraints such as
power consumption and size when applicable.
Keywords IoT; ECDSA; security; embedded; systems; low resource
I. INTRODUCTION:
The purpose of digital signature is to provide a means for an entity to bind its identity to a piece of
information. The process of signing entails transforming the message and some secret information
held by the entity into a tag called a signature. Elliptic Curve Digital Signature
Algorithm (ECDSA) is the elliptic curve analogue of the digital signature algorithm (DSA) and its
security is based on the elliptic curve discrete logarithm problem (ECDLP). To date, no sub
exponential time algorithm is known to solve the
ECDLP in a properly selected elliptic curve group [1].
This makes Elliptic

Predator Prey Lab Report Essay
PREDATOR PREY RELATIONS LAB Background Research: Predators and prey are organisms that
interrelate, and they can influence on another s success in reproduction. Predators are organisms that
consume other organisms their prey. These two organisms evolve together. They live in an
environment where they must develop certain adaptations to survive. When an adaptation is
developed, it gives an organism certain physical characteristics that create an advantage for survival
and can come to dominate in a population. An adaptation aids survival by either decreasing a prey s
chance of being eaten, or by increasing a predator s chance of obtaining food to survive and
reproduce. Predators must fight for food. They face density independent ... Show more content on

The predators may, however, dash in and pick up any prey being pursued by another predator. Do not
hesitate to intrude, any hungry natural predator would not. Hunting time will be 5 minutes. When the
teacher or the wildfire comes around and touches any of the students, they must step out of the playing
area for fifteen seconds. When told to stop, each student will tally up his kills . If a predator is in the
process of capturing a prey when told to stop, he must drop it. 6. Repeat this process for each
generation and make the proper adjustments required for each. 7. At the end of the lab, share your data
with the class and add up the number of prey killed. Observations: In certain parts of the field, the
grass was very tall and the prey that were in that area were very difficult to find. Because of this many
predators ignored the grassy areas which caused a lot of competition for prey in the other areas of the
field. Certain prey such as the corn was easily concealed in the grass because of its small size.
However, in the dirt area, the color of the corn really made it stand out. In the dirt area of the field, the
pinto beans were concealed because its camouflage characteristics allowed it blended in with the dirt,
but it stuck out in the grass. The black beans were small black so it was concealed it both the grass and
the dirt. The lima

Hearing Screening
Prior research has indicated that screening children for hearing loss as young as possible is imperative,
so that children with a hearing loss can receive treatment or an amplification device. Failure to
identify and manage hearing loss in adolescents can lead to impaired speech and language
development, poor social skills, and educational delays. Children in developing countries typically do
not receive newborn hearing screenings and they may not receive hearing screenings in school. Cost,
accuracy, accessibility, and trained personal are four of the major issues concerning the absence of
hearing screenings in developing countries. It was postulated that computer based audiometer software
was a low cost, accessible option for developing countries that could be easily operated by less
formally trained individuals.

Analysis Of Les Foules Or The Crowd
Les Foules or The Crowd is one of the poems of Charles Baudelaire. It is said that not everybody is
given the privilege to bathe in the swarm. The joy of indulgence in the crowd is a skill in itself. Any
human by himself or herself at the cost of fun of spirit is a person whom a faerie has encouraged a
flavor of attire and mask in his cradle. This person disliked home life and dedication for journey.
Withdrawal and confinement are like and correspondent terms for an effective and artistic poet. A
person who cannot handle being abandoned in the busy crowd, is not aware how to inhabit his
isolation. Just like the way guilty souls hunt for a body, that he admires he enters. The poet also takes
pleasure in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the swift glance of this unfamiliar citizen lies her graceful charm. The spectator feels that in her
swift glance resides a brief aspect which strongly pulls him towards the end and at the same time he
appreciates his life.
In On Some Motifs in Baudelaire , Benjamin writes: In a widow s veil, mysteriously and mutely borne
along by the crowd, an unknown woman comes into the poet s field of vision. What this sonnet
communicates is simply this: Far from experiencing the crowd as an opposed, antagonistic element,
this very crowd brings to the city dweller the figure that fascinates. The delight of the urban poet is
love not at first sight, but at last sight.
In this poem, the crowd is made up of individual figures and the widow gives us a constant
materialistic indication of this. The character of the widow is symbolic to predict the prospective and
feasibility. These are all the destined traits in which the so called widow will never have the option to
be unsuccessful. She is seen as a rugged picture in a slab of marble because she is not considered to be
much of a completed task with statue s form . Baudelaire fulfils the particulars in whichever suitable
way it flashes his personal creative requirements. The Flaneur portrays his individual aspect of human
nature and thinks of the

Huck Finn Racism
Is Huckleberry Finn racist? Huckleberry Finn or Huck Finn for short has had plenty of controversy
since the book was first published. Many people believe that because of the words Twain used in the
book many people blatantly believe that the book Huck Finn is racist. Since the book was First
Published people have been trying to ban and not allow people to read Huck Finn. Many people
believe that Huck Finn should not be taught in school simply because of the tone and words Twain
decided to use while writing the book while others, on the contrary, believe that Huck Finn had a
powerful message that spoke against racism and slavery. Falling from grace ( Twain 35) This quote
can mean many different things, but how most people see it, it can show how much this book affected
racism and hate in the U.S.A it really portrays what life was like during the time period that Huck Finn
was set in. Why should Huck Finn be taught in school and why is there so much controversy
surrounding a novel. The video we watched in class gave us the story of a mother and a daughter who
decided that because their views and closed mindedness was more important than allowing students to
learn what life was like and why it is so important to never repeat those mistakes again, all because
they are much too feeble minded to realize the impact of Huck Finn. Huck Finn as a work of literature
is very important in that Twain

Essay Wine Industry
America s winemakers are making superior wines and reaping global acclaim. In a single generation
the United States wine industry s global success is a fascinating story of entrepreneurial vision and
savvy marketing. The American industry has new innovations, new competition, and new markets,
which make the future look bright for the wine industry.
In terms of worldwide recognition and success, individual American wineries have made their mark
only in the last 50 years. Not until the end of Prohibition in 1933 did the American wine industry take
off on a large scale. America has now become the fourth largest producer in the world behind Italy,
France, and Spain.
The wine market consists of still wine, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The U.S. ranks 34th in per capita wine consumption, just behind Slovakia and Canada, and ahead of
Latvia. Per capita wine consumption is 2.72 gallons.
According to 2002 Adams Wine handbook, 32.2% of adult Latinos, 28.8% of adult Asian Americans,
and 25.8% of adult African Americans are wine drinkers.
America s top 10 export wine markets are the United Kingdom, Canada, Netherlands, Japan, Belgium,
Germany, Ireland, France, Sweden, and Denmark.
Infrequent increases in Federal alcohol taxes have led to significant erosion in inflation adjusted
values of these taxes. In 1951, inflation adjusted value of tax was $1.16 per wine gallon. The inflation
rates imposed on wine currently is about $1.07 per wine gallon. The wine taxes vary based on alcohol
content. They currently range from $1.07 to 3.40 per wine gallon.
Infrequent and modest increases in state and Federal alcoholic beverage excise taxes contribute to
declines over time in inflation adjusted alcoholic beverage prices. Federal, state and local governments
can use a variety of policies to raise the price of alcoholic beverages. Infrequent and modest increases
in taxes and repeal of some control policies have contributed to sharp reductions in inflation prices
over time.
The U.S. Gross Domestic Product of the wine industry was 3.20% in 2003. The inflation rate in 2003
was 1.9%.

What is My Identity?
Dreams from My Father archives Barack Obama s journey, and struggles, to find his identity. Obama
quickly admits that race is an important part of himself, and it is that quest of race and identity that
pushes him to question his own uniqueness. Ultimately spanning both worlds of the vastly different
cultures of his life in America and his roots in Kenya causes Obama confusion and self doubt. It is
through the steady love of his family that allows Obama to truly find acceptance and identity. Linking
the two very different worlds not only causes Barack Obama to find an identity, but to find an identity
and take it as his own. Obama could be considered to be a third culture kid . These are children that ...

It is when his sister reveals the truth about his father that is causes a new perception of his father.
Obama s sister revealed that not only was he abusive but that he was a bitter drunk. After hearing what
his sister said, Obama started to think of ways to salvage the best parts of his father but could not.
Instead, the stories his sister told him about Barack Obama Sr. provided a way for Obama to revise his
life and to really dig deeper to find the true him. Not only did Barack s father help him get off the path
and create his own, but his father was another source of gaining essential principles that would help
him later on in life. It could be said that the most important principle Obama gained from his father
was the principle of forgiveness. This is seen when Obama is crying at his father s grave. While he
was there and crying he told his father that there was no shame in your confusion . Saying this could
also be seen as a way for Barack Obama to remind himself that even though he is confused about his
identity he has no reason to be. While being split between two worlds caused Barack Obama to long
for an identity and to take on anything that made sense at the time, his father pushed him to search for
his own uniqueness, his own true identity. Although other factors catalyze Obama and cause him to be
at a loss for an identity, he was finally able to find it in the end when he traveled

Pirates Of The Caribbean Analysis
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, directed by Gore Verbinski, is one of the most
influential pieces of cinema in the disney movie franchise. The movie was well received by the
majority of people that viewed it. However, not everyone was as impressed with the movie, like film
critic Roger Ebert for example. While Ebert, at the time working as a film critic for Chicago Sun
Times, gave the movie three stars, there are some critiques that are incredibly incorrect. The article
focuses a lot on the stellar performances of Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush, Jack Sparrow and
Barbossa respectively, while making light of the respectable performance of Keira Knightley as
Elizabeth Swann. He also spends a good segment of his review bashing the action scenes and deeming
them pointless based on the plot of the movie. Overall, Roger Ebert believes the movie was decent,
but went on for far too long, calling it, a nice little 90 minute B movie trapped inside the 143 minutes
of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (rogerebert.com). There is an argument to be
made about Roger Ebert s rollercoaster ride of a review on Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the
Black Pearl, especially concerning his opinions on the performances of some of the actors and the
fighting. While the performances of Geoffrey Rush and Johnny Depp were indeed marvelous, Roger
Ebert s opinion on the performance of Keira Knightley could not be more wrong. Ebert describes her

Argumentative Essay On Migrant Workers
Migrant workers are willing to do the jobs that local workers don t want to do and they value their
jobs very much. Despite the huge marches in cities like Chicago and Los Angeles, many immigrants
skipped the boycott either for fear of losing their jobs or because they simply could not afford to lose
even a single day s wages (Hamilton). They treat wages more than everything. At the same time,
employers in Canada and the U.S. also benefit from migrant workers. With the lowest payment,
sometimes they even don t get paid at all, employers save a lot on their cost, what s more, migrant
workers are usually not able to enjoy the same rights and benefits as locals, even though they are
supposed to have the same rights and benefits as local workers,

Tertiary Proteins Globular
. The 3 D tertiary structure of polypeptide proteins globular and is the result of interactions that occur
between R groups. Tertiary structure is a result of the bonds between sidechains of amino acids, the R

each protein. Tertiary proteins are held together by four different types of forces; hydrogen bonds,
hydrophobic interactions (including Van der Waals interactions), ionic bonding (electrostatic
interactions), and disulfide bridges (strong covalent bonds). Hydrogen bonds occur within and
between polypeptide chains and the aqueous environment. Hydrogen bonding forms between a highly

PrPc (a healthy prion) generally functions in this way but when unhealthy PrPSc comes into contact
with healthy PrPc it converts healthy to unhealthy. This disrupts the cell and the cell will make another
healthy PrPc in its place. This is how the disease unfolds. The cell replaces the healthy protein that has
become unhealthy PrPSc; only for it to then be converted to unhealthy. PrPSc eventually converts all
healthy PrPc proteins to PrPSc. PrPSc; the misfolded and unhealthy prion acts as its own chaperone.
Proteosomes exist to destroy proteins that misfold. Our defense mechanisms do not recognize the
PrPSc as foreign and therefore do not destroy it. It continues to proliferate as it turns PrPc to PrPSc.
Since PrPSc is hydrophobic it tends to hide from water and turn inward and clump together in the
cells. This is called aggregation. Eventually the PrPSc overtakes and kills the cell and leave the
appearance of tissues looking spongy. New cells do not grow in dead cells place and PrPSc finds new
cells to invade as the disease progresses (Cobb Surewicz,

I read a lot. No, seriously. A LOT. I m about halfway through an MFA program that requires me to

roughly three books a week, plus 30 poems, 30 short stories, and 30 essays a month all required

that reading. Really. Sometimes I can t believe that I ve managed to build a life that involves so much

  • 2. Bp and Stakeholder Mismanagement Thesis Poor stakeholder management led to preventable mishaps such as the disasters in Alaska and Texas. Specifically, BP s defensive approach towards stakeholder management led to lavish compensation for upper level management while creating hazardous working conditions for employees and a burden on all of society in the form of rising oil prices and environmental damage. Background British Petroleum was founded in 1908 and since then has rapidly grown to become the eighth largest company in the world . However, as of late, BP has come under fire for several high profile disasters, including the Texas City refinery explosion and the Prudhoe Bay oil spill. In 2005, an explosion occurred at BP s refinery at Texas City. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The US Chemical Safety Board stated that there is a solid case for citing some fault on cost cutting in the Texas City disaster. In fact was BP aggressively cut maintenance investment in their refinery by 84% between the years 1992 2000 . Additionally BP lacked many company wide safety standards and left the decision making to plant managers, a position which had a high turnover rate . Cost cutting was eventually handed down to the employees in the form of a hazardous work place, with 15 deaths and over 170 others injured in the Texas City explosion. Stakeholder Snapshot: Society BP s negligence and lackluster response to the Prudhoe Bay oil spill caused damage to the surrounding environment and forced a spike in oil prices, drawing intense criticism and scrutiny from the Federal government and the American public. BP s handling of the cleanup has raised serious questions about the concern the company has for the environment. Five months following the accident, 17,000 gallons of crude oil remained to be drained from the surrounding areas of the pipeline . Following the accident, BP has faced pressure from the Justice Department, the Environmental Protection Agency, and Congress due to the environmental damage. Prior to the spill, the company was already being investigated by the EPA for possible violations of the U.S. Clean Water Act due to pipeline corrosion. It now faces a grand jury investigation which may lead to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Examples Of Indecision In Hamlet Indecision, by dictionary definition is simply the inability to make decisions quickly. However, indecision itself is not actually such an intelligible term, but rather an overly complex one that dips into the intricate nature of the human mindset. This becomes even more accurate when the act of indecisiveness is paired with compelling circumstances. Oftentimes human beings are required to act irrationally because their circumstances force them to do so. Our opinions and actions seem justifiable, yet they may also come across as deceitful and immoral. The overriding internal conflict of choosing between personal desire and what is morally correct becomes the central aspect of many human trials. William Shakespeare, the writer of many well known ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ophelia is Hamlet s love interest throughout the entire play. However, in an attempt to be strategic, Hamlet feigns insanity in order to be deceiving and in turn breaks Ophelia s heart. His sudden disinterest towards her coupled with her father Polonius and brother Laertes commands to stay away from Hamlet composes a dire internal conflict within Ophelia s mind. She is torn between her undying love for Hamlet versus her desire to be an obedient daughter and sister. In addition, Hamlet unintentionally murders Polonius rather than Claudius, which also adds to Ophelia s insanity. To make matter worse, Ophelia has no mother figure within her life. So taken all together, she is stuck in a constant battle within herself with nobody who is there for her. I hope all will be well. We must be patient/ but I cannot choose but weep/ to think they would lay him/ i th cold ground (Hamlet v, iv). This quote from Ophelia demonstrates her deep sorrow towards her father s death, as well as the start of her path to insanity. Her lack of a maternal figure leaves her with nobody to discuss her feelings and troubles with. Because of this constant battle within her life, Ophelia finds herself in a confrontation with her emotions, which ends in her official decision of suicide. Which one could argue makes her decisive in the end which may be true, but her internal struggle leading to her choice of suicide is what makes her a great example of a character struggling with uncertainty during times of ... • 4. Antonio Ricci Bicycle Thieves Jacob Spence September 17th, 2014 ITA1113 Antonio Ricci: The Bicycle Thief Antonio Ricci, the protagonist of Vittorio De Sica s Bicycle Thieves, inhabits an Italy torn apart by the Second World War. The decaying city streets and mass poverty is a far cry from the society united under communism envisioned by earlier neorealist filmmakers. De Sica uses Ricci to critique capitalism, as well to document the struggle of the masses in Post War Italy. The theft of his Bicycle sends Ricci, along with De Sica s camera, across Rome and into the depths of Roman society. The film emphasizes the rift between the upper and lower classes of Italy. The job Ricci lands at the beginning of film has him putting up posters featuring Rita Hayworth, a reminder of Hollywood idealism and a symbol of American wealth and glamour. Ricci later claims that movies bore him, perhaps echoing the sentiments of the neorealists. The restaurant scene juxtaposes Ricci and his son, Bruno, with a bourgeois family sitting at another table. The staff act contemptuously towards the protagonists, avoiding eye contact and hurriedly delivering their food, furthermore their table is the only one in the entire restaurant without a tablecloth, De Sica suggests that capitalism is not only the division of wealth, but the division of people. ... He repeatedly fails to consider his son s well being in his unrelenting quest to locate the bike, marching onward as Bruno trips and falls behind him. The bicycle itself works as a symbol of this corruption, a material possession (like money), that becomes almost a physiological need within a capitalist ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is this mix of key factors that has empowered Boston Pizza to serve a bigger number of clients in a greater number of areas than many other full service restaurants in Canada (BP International Inc., 2014). Background Authoritative structure and outline help organizations to comprehend themselves and in a perfect world to cooperate to perform all the assignments and accomplish all the objectives of an organization. Frequently when a company is small and beginning up, it ignores both of these ideas while it makes sense of its character, errands, capacities and everything authoritative structure and outline help put in place. Contrastingly, when Gus Agioritis opened his little Boston Pizza and Spaghetti House in 1964, his technique was to develop the restaurant by concentrating on franchising. Take on a similar mindset as a client, convey extraordinary sustenance and quality, and work nearly with your accomplices. (BP International Inc., 2014). Boston Pizza has conquered this by concentrating on the three mainstays of achievement, which are the scenery for all choice making that has supported the advancement and accomplishment of Boston Pizza. The three pillars of this concrete pizzeria are responsibility to the franchisee benefit, responsibility for building the Boston Pizza brand, duty to persistently enhancing the client experience. • 6. Five Practices Of Exemplary Leadership Analysis The first of the Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership is Model the Way. In this practice, leaders ascertain their inner voice, values and beliefs in order to affirm shared values with their constituents (Kouzes Posner, 2012). Leaders must clarify their own values if they aspire to support shared values amongst their team. They accomplish this task by identifying the values and beliefs that are important to them and the supporting reasons. Subsequently, the leader would communicate those values with their constituents and in return ask for their values and beliefs with a goal to unify the team. Lastly, a leader will walk the talk and follow the values that they communicate with their subordinates. Inspire a Shared Vision is the second practice of exemplary leadership. Leaders envision the future and enlist other in a common vision through shared aspirations (Kouzes Posner, 2012). The possibilities of the organization are immeasurable when a leader believes that people can truly make a difference. • 8. The Effects Of Leishmaniasis And Its Effects On The North... In the United States people tend to take a lot for granted, such as: vaccinations, medications, availability of doctors , or even the simple satisfaction of walking outside barefoot. Leishmaniasis, a parasitic disease also known as the sand fly disease, is caused by Leishmania parasites and is transmitted by the bite of infected sand flies. Leishmaniasis is both a subtropical and tropical disease found in over ninety countries. This disease ranges from the Western Hemisphere to the Eastern Hemisphere (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, CDC 2013). It is found most frequently in India, Iran, Peru, Brazil, and Columbia (Medicine Net 2014). According to the Bridging Research and Leishmaniasis Control, it has estimated that ... Step three, the promastigotes flagellate stage transfers into a tissue stage known as, amastigotes. Step four, the amastigotes then multiply by cell division and continue to infect other cells. Step five, another bite from another sand fly occurs, now this sand fly injects macrophages infected with amastigotes. Step six, is the step of ingestion of the parasitized cell. Step seven, amastigotes transform to promastigotes stage in mid gut, meaning they increase in size and develop a long flagella to swim and infect throughout the human body. Step eight, is the division of mid gut to proboscis, in other words the transformation of a protozoan to a sucking organ of insects inside the body (CDC 2014). However while this is occurring internally without vision, the external symptoms and signs should be eye catching and mind wondering. Medical Net has identified the symptoms and signs to be classified as: weight loss, low blood count, enlargement of liver and spleen, constant high fevers, darken skin areas, and skin lesions. In addition to these symptoms and signs it is best to keep in mind that Leishmaniasis is not the only disease with these symptoms. With that being said, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Nucleophilic Substitution Reaction Lab Report Substitution Reactions, Purification, and Identification Introduction (Q:1 2) An unknown (nucleophile) was subjected to SN2 reaction when combined with benzyl bromide (electrophile) in a sodium hydroxide (base) solution. The experiment provided a clear understanding in conducting nucleophilic substitution reaction where heat must be applied in order for the SN2 reaction to move forward. The goal was to determine the unknown by incorporating knowledge of polarity, the laws of physics, and the role of energy when forming crystals; like dissolves like , matter cannot be created nor destroyed . This was concluded by combining information on melting points and TLC; melting range narrowed when filtered product was mixed with the standard product. Also, the Rf value of the pure product is closely related to the Rf value of the standard. TLC of filtrate showed no movement of the substance in the mixture under 9:1 ratio declaring the substance to be extremely polar. Of the three potential unknown reactants, 4 methoxyphenol would be the most polar and therefore would travel least up the TLC plate. (Q14:Yield) 81.2% product yield was collected. Matter cannot be created nor destroyed , therefore some product could have filtered through. TLC of filtrate confirmed remnants of product present. Filtering the filtrate could have increased the yield. (Q15:Recovery) The percent recovery of the product makes sense because it is the mass of the crystallized product divided by the crude product: 94.9%. The percentage reflects the mass of pure product (without the presence of impurities). (Q16:MP) Melting point coincides with the unknown nucleophile being 4 methoxyphenol because when the standard product was combined with our pure product, the melting range narrowed. When compared to the melting ranges obtained when mixed with the other two possible products the melting ranges significantly decreased and widened. This is often an indication of impurities being present, but because this was a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Science Astronomy Nebula Essay Science Astronomy Nebulas What are nebulas? How did they come about? Nebulas are made up of dust, hydrogen helium and plasma. Nebulas, essentially gaseous clouds, are formed. A supernova is a star that collapses under its own gravity after it dramatically increases in its brightness. The first nebula, Dumbbell Nebula M27, was discovered by Charles Messier on July 12 1764. In 1784 William Herschel invented the name Planetary nebula after he had started comprehensively scanning the deep sky and discovered a famous planetary nebula, the Saturn Nebula NGC 7009 in 1782. The nebula theory, states that this theory is the most accepted evolutionary theory for the formation of the solar system from a cloud of gas and dust particles known as a nebula. The process starts with a rotating cloud of gas and dust that contracts and flattens to form a disk around a star forming at its centre. Planets grow from the dust and gas in the disk and are left behind when the disk clears. The process of a nebula forming is linked to the creation of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This theory provides more evidence for society to believe. The solar system is thought to be created from enormous spinning cloud. This cloud was made up of gas and dust. The core of a cloud grew under the influence of gravity and as a result it became denser and hotter. Material was collected into the core and the cloud increased in speed and became flat, almost like a disk shape. As the cloud became increasingly hotter the cloud generated enough energy to create a nuclear fusion. The light gas was distributed far out in the solar system. This light gas left rocky materials and metallic that had high melting points were left behind. These materials clumped together caused by mutual gravity and formed ... • 12. Taking Back The Vote For a nation to truly develop everybody should participate in voting. If everyone will vote then the elected representative will be someone who will represent the believes and values of everyone or at least the majority. In that way, when the representative will do something for the nation, everyone will be able to be benefited from it. However, it is a harsh reality of our society that young people vote at lower rates than other age groups. There are a lot of reasons for that, for example, I think most young people are not interested enough in what the politicians are claiming to in their campaign. Most politician talks about health care, better economy, and external relations. These topics do not seem interesting to young people because in most cases they have not been in a situations where they needed any of those, for example, in most cases senior people need health care, middle age group need to worry about the economy because they need to feed their kids, and authorities need to worry about external affairs. Hence, young people end up not voting because their issues are not being discussed in the election campaign. According to Jane Eisner s book Taking Back the Vote, it is two processes. The Effects Of Autonomous Cars On Society Essay Tyler Hagemeier Dr. Learst English 102 20 November 2016 Argumentative Essay While researching articles about autonomous cars, I found a few authors who wrote about the effects of autonomous cars on society and whether or not these should be introduced to our world s roads. On one hand, some authors believe self driving cars should not be allowed on roads. They believe this revolution in the change of cars will destroy large industries which includes the auto insurance industry, parking industry, and auto aftermarket industry. However, with the expansion of these new technologies, it could introduce new industries as well. Some say autonomous cars draw questions of ethicality with accidents because there is not a human driving the vehicle. The truth is, human drivers cause a shocking amount of accidents each year which could be greatly decreased by autonomous cars. My goal in this paper is to argue that autonomous or self driving cars should be introduced to our world s roads because there will be less accidents, massive economic benefits, and a more efficient form of transportation. To achieve this goal, I have organized my paper into three sections. In this first section, I will provide evidence and discuss the amount of accidents human drivers create on the roads. I will then explain how self driving cars can limit the amount of accidents and discuss the ethics of autonomous cars. In the second section, I will explain how autonomous cars can benefit the ... Thus, security is necessary to maintain growth in the IoT technology. This paper will focus on the use of Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) as a digital authenticator for use in the IoT. Although ECDSA improves security, it comes at the cost of computational complexity in comparison to authentication methods that use ciphers that are symmetric or simple hashes. This complexity often causes significant limitations in devices applied in the IoT, where resources are restricted. This paper will mainly focus on speed and memory performances, and will briefly cover other constraints such as power consumption and size when applicable. Keywords IoT; ECDSA; security; embedded; systems; low resource I. INTRODUCTION: The purpose of digital signature is to provide a means for an entity to bind its identity to a piece of information. The process of signing entails transforming the message and some secret information held by the entity into a tag called a signature. Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) is the elliptic curve analogue of the digital signature algorithm (DSA) and its security is based on the elliptic curve discrete logarithm problem (ECDLP).
