Media Piracy And Copyright Issues
Media piracy and copyright issues have been seen as a huge issue in the history of national and
international law. These issues have grown to greater concern up to this point in time because of
the advancements in technology, the ease of stealing information, and the accepting culture of
copying, sharing and redistributing copyrightmaterial. It has become a part of our daily lives like
downloading music from YouTube through third party sites, pirating movies from online websites
through torrents and torrent applications, or copying scripts off the internet for school productions.
Since the beginning of the rise in copyright and piracy issues, research has shown that Canada and
the United States have taken some similar and some different approaches these issues. The
Canadian approach to copyright and piracy issues is better because; provisions to copyright and
media law over the last 3 centuries have been beneficial for Canadians, content is under copyright
for a number of years until it enters the public domain which benefits creators and consumers, and
these laws safeguard our information and content with constant updates to provide protection
against hacking, trafficking of personal info, and piracy of digital content. To begin, some history
and background information on the role Canada has played in international copyright should set a
stance on how involved Canada was from the late eighteen hundreds to now. In the first part of Sara
Bannerman s article, she reviews

Nuit of the Living Dead Essay
Nuit of the Living Dead by David Sedaris
Nuit of the Living Dead written by David Sedaris, the setting in rural France leads to part of the
comedic element of this story. Reading this story very much feels like trying to follow an ADD
chipmunk. There are generally several thought patterns running simultaneously throughout the
entire thing. It s a quick, fun, charmingly quirky read. One of the most charming parts is the
internal dialog of the main character that s constantly drizzled through the entire story. It lends such
a drawing part to this story; makes it very much more captivating. About halfway into the story and
it started to feel so much like a peek into my own mind that I couldn t help but chuckle a little and

The driver of the van struggles with a thick accent which no doubt had I been in the author s
position it would have taken a great effort to stay composed. Sometimes inappropriate, not so
politically correct humor is some of the funniest out there, which this writer realizes and dances
so delicately along the line between funny and crass. That s what makes this story so charming
for the most part. There is a line midway through that makes me snicker every single time I read
it. Either he had a speech impediment or the letter v did not exist in his native language.
Whatever the case, I wanted him to say it again. Paragraph thirty four is probably my favorite in
the entire story, the author is seeing his living room through the eyes of his guest. As he starts to
scan his living room the oddities and slightly askew parts of his life leaps out at him. He starts to
feel like he probably looks like a serial killer. It s a very funny and quirky ride through what
someone picks out with they come in a stranger s house; unconnected and unrelated things to us in
our everyday lives looks insanely intimidating and too ordered to just be chance to strangers. There
seemed to be a theme developing, and everything I saw appeared to substantiate it: the almanac of
guns and firearms suddenly prominent on the

Observation Of A Korean Restaurant
SEOUL KIMCHI
I have been interested in Korean culture since high school. Therefore, I chose to observe a Korean
restaurant in Manchester. I visited Seoul Kimchi in Upper Brook Street twice on Thursday, 5pm to
6pm and Saturday 1.30pm to 2.30pm.
Seoul Kimchi is located in a strategic location. Vehicles heading to the city from Wilmslow Road
pass Upper Brook Street, so it is a busy road. The restaurant is white in colour so it is easily
differentiated among other restaurants in the block like Subway and Zaytoon. It is a small shop
accommodating 20 people at one time. During both period I visited, almost all seats are
occupied. The restaurant workforce consists of four chefs (three male and one female), a
dishwasher, waiter, and waitress. All chefs wore white as in most restaurants and attendants wore
black. It reminds me of Harley Davidson riders who wear black as they do not show any dirt.
Perhaps the same belief applies here as restaurant attendants should look clean all the time.
The menu was bilingual (English and Korean) to cater all nationality but customers often ask
further details such as the ingredients of the food. Customers especially non Korean must feel
insecure eating food outside their culture so they ask for assurance. The situation implies that
customers seriously care about what they consume especially food. When ordering, I noticed
customers would point on the menu for a smoother communication with the waiter. Hence, human
strive to make life easier. After

Internal And External Factors Of Global Trade
1.What are the major factors one must consider when going global? As we all know, global trade
is no easy, companies cannot just ship their products to another country and sell it in the foreign
market, there are many factors need to be considered and analysis. In my point of view, the factor
can be separate into internal and external factors. Internal factor: Does the product sell well in the
home country? If the product is not doing good in the home country, why we should try to go
global? May be some boss may think the foreign country will be adopting the product better
compare to the home country, and I think this is wrong. The Product is the company s core. Do the
company has enough budget for going global? A miscalculate... Show more content on

Companies need to follow the rule to playing the game in a foreign country. Furthermore,
government is another part the CEO needs to think about it, some government will stop or against
some products unless under their control. The most well known examples will be the Facebook
and Google in China. Google China was founded in 2005 as the google subsidiary corporation and
shut down the service in 2010 by not cooperate with the Chinese government. In the main while, the
Facebook CEO puts lots effort dealing with the Chinese government, but still unable to entry the
Chinese market. Economic and the currency: first of all, every business is trying to avoid risk,
therefor, the economic status of a foreign country is what the company looking for, they want the
low unemployment rate, inflation rate and stable economic environment. Furthermore, the currency
difference will change the product price strategy. the local competition. Most cases fail because
those companies underestimate the local competitor. When the Alibaba found, they are goal is
beat the companies like Amazon and Ebay. There is no one believe Alibaba will achieve their goal
during that time and no one try to make some barrier to stop their expansion. This underestimation
help Alibaba became one of the heavyweight company in the world and Ebay lost the entire market
in China. 2.Why is CULTURE so critical to the understanding of

Nestle Is Best Known For Its Chocolate, Coffee, And Milk...
INTRODUCTION
Case Summary
Nestle is best known for its chocolate, coffee (it invented instant coffee) and milk products. Nestle
is the largest beverage and food company in the world, having more than 281000 employees at 500
facilities in 200 countries. They have their headquarters in Vevey, Switzerland; the company has an
annual revenue exceeding $104 billion. The company sells hundreds of products, which are adapted
to fit the market and culture. Nestle allows organization to conduct business as it saw fit, taking into
consideration the local conditions and business culture. To support this decentralized strategy, there
were 80 different information technology units the run 900 IBM AS/400 midrange computers, 15
main frames and 200 Unix Systems. Nestles management found allowing local difference created
inefficiencies and extra cost that could prevent the company from competing efficiently in e
commerce. Years ago Nestle embarked on a program to standardize and coordinate its information
system and business process. The company initially had SAP SR/3 enterprise resource planning.
This software integrated materials, distribution and accounting applications in Canada, USA and
Europe. Nestle then expanded its enterprise system strategy to all the facilities, that way they act
as a single minded e business. Once the project was complete Nestle was able to use the sales

Analysis Of Empress Theodora And Victory Stele Of Naram-Sin
Although these artworks can look completely different at first glance, they have many
similarities. For example, all three artworks have one major figure, and portray an importance
on that figure. Thutmose s Nefertiti only has one subject, although that subject is wearing a
huge crown to signify her importance. Victory Stele of Naram Sin s artist scales Naram Sin by
almost two times, compared to the rest of the figures, to show his importance. As well as giving
him a helmet with two horns, unlike any other figure on the relief. He is also positioned closest
to the stars, and is the major focal point. Empress Theodora s artist gave Theodora a larger head
dress and a halo to signify her importance. The artist also gave her gold details on her clothing
and made her slightly higher than every other figure to continue emphasizing her importance. In
general, although they are very different pieces, every artist successfully tells the viewer which
figure is the most important. In addition, Victory Stele of Naram Sin and Empress Theodora
look very different because of the medium used and the figures shown. However, they both tell a
story to the viewer. Victory Stele of Naram Sin is telling of the victory over the Lullubi people,
and how the leader is considered to be a god on earth (Unknown 1). The placement of Naram Sin,
his army and enemies portray this very well, and the background helps give the viewer a good idea
of a setting. Empress Theodora tells of each figure walking

Warsaw Ghetto Research Paper
Ghettos were put in to segregate, restrict, and isolate the Jews from the rest of the population.
Unlike Ghettos set up in medieval times, the Nazi Ghettos had walls around them and were
guarded. The Warsaw Ghetto was the largest ghetto in Europe and it was built in April 1940.
The Warsaw Ghetto was a residential district in Warsaw until it was designated as a Jewish ghetto
in World War II by the Nazis. (Warsaw Ghetto Facts). All the Jewish people that lived in the
Warsaw were sent to the ghetto. This meant that 30 percent of the population were forced into 2.4
percent of the city s area. They set up these ghettos, so the Nazis knew exactly where to find them
to persecute them (Holocaust Ghettos). The Ghetto was liberated on January 17, 1945 by the
Soviet army, and 300 Jewswere found hiding despite the fact that the ghetto was almost completely

Jews were not allowed to leave or have any contact with the outside world (Ghettos: An
Overview). Very soon after the Ghetto opened, barbed wire fences or 10ft walls topped with
barbed wire were built. The Jews living in the Ghetto didn t receive electricity, sanitary water,
food, and medicine. It is estimated that about 100,000 Jews died in the Warsaw Ghetto and
about 300,000 were sent to death camps and murdered. Many of the deaths in Warsaw was
because of starvation and disease. By August 1941, more than 5,000 people a month succumbed
to starvation and disease (Historical Film Footage). A big factor of why people were starving was
that they were not receiving enough food rations. The rations for the Jews were barely enough to
sustain life, at just 181 calories a day. That barely reaches the 10 percent of the normal
requirements. If one had wanted really to restrict oneself to the official rations, then the entire
population of the ghetto would have had

Exotic pets are very rare and unusual pets, that are usually they are some sort of rodent, reptile, or

lizards. Exotic pettrade is one of the largest businesses in the world as a result of selling exotic

2,066 exotic animal accidents(Live Science). Exotic pets can also transmit many diseases that

Absolutely True Diary Of A Part-Time Indian
Have you ever wondered what it s like to live on an Indian reservation? Well in the book The
Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian by Sherman Alexie you can begin to see and know
what it is like. This novel focuses around the life of a boy named junior who struggles with fitting
in anywhere, on the rez, or in the white school he goes to. You can see his struggle with connecting
to his familyand people off the rez in this book. In this journal, I will be questioning why Junior
goes to a new school, predicting that he will become friends with Rowdy again, and connecting
Junior to a candle. First, I will be questioning why Junior decides to start going to school off the

Lastly, I am connecting Junior to a candle. I know, I know that is a weird connection but just
wait to hear what I mean. A candle cannot light itself. That is just impossible. There is no way in
the world that a candle could light itself, it would need someone else to do it. The same also
goes for Junior. He cannot make something of himself on his own; he needs the push and/or
suggestion to make a change in his life from someone else. His parents letting him go to that
school was like the strike of the match to light the candle itself. I connect Junior to a candle
because he has a fire burning inside him and he just needed someone to light it for him. In
conclusion, Junior is a very smart kid trying to handle living on an Indian reservation and having
these big dreams, trying also to relate with his family and friends. Junior is trying to make it in
the world, and the way to do that is for him to go to a school off the rez. In this journal, I
questioned why Junior went to school off the reservation, predicted that he and Rowdy would

Reflection Paper On Public Speaking
Throughout this Summer I have watched myself blossom into a more confident public speaker.
Prior to this class, public speaking had never been a natural ability, and I was always afraid and full
of anxiety before a speech. Speaking for more than a few minutes seemed to be an impossible task.
Skills of knowing how to evaluate myself as a public speakerwere absent, and I did not know how
to become an effective listener.
When starting the class I had little to no public speaking experience. I have never fully prepared
a speech before or conducted research to gain the most information possible. Starting off with
the Life in a Bag speech, I was not fully prepared and I had the idea that I would just present and
say what came to mind. I was visibly nervous and I did not speak at an extemporaneous level.
The amount of times Umm was said was most likely over 50, and I just couldn t get the words
out. Making eye contact with anyone in the room was also absent. It was noticeable when eye
contact was attempted that I would lose my current thought. When the speech was over I
immediately regret not rehearsing the speech or at least planning what I was going to say. One
thing I Believe I did correctly is bringing in five things that actually represent my personality.
Following the Life in a Bag speech, it was time to prepare for the narrative speech. Picking a
topic was more difficult than I originally thought. For a lot of people, (myself being one of them)
picking a story to tell about yourself can cause the speaker to feel uncomfortable while
presenting. The topic for the narrative speech did not need to be personal; however for me it
seemed to be the most logical and easy way to go. I picked an embarrassing moment from my
childhood when my sister replaced my toy from show and tell with a hairbrush. I looked over
the notes that my peers had given me from my last speech and the biggest issues that needed to
be fixed were making better eye contact, speaking at an extemporaneous level, and just being
more prepared with what I was going to say. I prepared index cards for this speech, and I did
rehearse my presentation which made me more fluent. When the time came to present I felt less
nervous than I did for the

The Importance Of A Special Education Teacher Essay
As I read the book Nothing Is Inconsequential I learned many things that made me think about my
own life. There were so many things Dave went through to get to where he did. He had to jump
through many hoops to get through college. This made me think about my own experiences when
I came to Wilmington College myself. When I first came to the college my focus was to become a
special educationteacher, but that did not happen. I had to change my whole path and go into social
work. Which bothered me in the begging, but once I thoughtabout it for a while and really started
to get into the material I knew it was what I was meant to do. I still get to work with kids as a
social worker. It will be a little different, but I know I ll be able to have an effect on m
community just like Dave. He did so many things with all the schools he either taught at or was
the principle. He changed many communities around that he went to. Especially when he
merged two schools together. He knew when he did it that he would lose his job, but he knew it
was best for the kids. I know that when I am in the field of child welfare that I may have to take
kids out of their homes because of the way they are treated or the family is not stable. It will be
hard at first, but I ll know it s the right thing for the child.
Being part of the community was one thing I thought Dave did very well. He was always there
for everyone and wanted everyone to be a part of his life, especially with his car museum he had.

College Education Vs Non Traditional Education
Today there is a growing gap between educated and uneducated Americans. The upper middle class
seem to expect nothing less than a college degree, while lower income families risk missing a
college education, so they can go straight into the workforce. To get nontraditional students on the
path of a collegeeducation, it would greatly benefit them and society. To get these students to apply
for college would help to break the cycle of upper middle class diversity, allow lower income
students to start thinking about college, and help to boost the economy.
As pointed out by David Leonhardt, diversity in elite colleges is considered an upper middle class
student from California and an upper middle class student from New York sitting in the

Race And Ethnicity And Race

Race and Ethnicity
Ethnicity and race have been used in American society to the point where both words are
indistinguishable from each other. Race is a social construct (Throop, Lecture, 10/8/2015). Race is a
social construct because race is used to differentiate the different ethnic groups from each other.
Race should not be used to separate the different ethnic groups. In American society, it is evident
that certain ethnic groups are singled out for the problems in our society. Usually those ethnic
groups are minorities. African Americans and Latinos are usually the minorities that are singled out
for the problems or benefit of the majority. In the article, Who Dat?: Race and Its Conspicuous
Consumption in Post Katrina New Orleans, Marc Perry states how African Americancitizens were
affected by the devastating hurricane Katrina in 2005 and how the citizens reacted before and after
hurricane Katrina to the relocation of African Americans to other places for the restructuring of
New Orleans (Perry). In a related article titled, Putting the Ninth Ward on the map: Race, Place,

Americans living in New Orleans before and after hurricane Katrina were being dislocated for the

The baroque period was very important piece European art history, in which all
forms of art was changed under the influence of religious and ideological movements of
the Catholic Counter Reformation in Europe. (Sandywell, 1st Edition, 2011) This era
lasted from early 1600 to late 1800. The baroque period can also be broken down into two
sub categories: Italian baroque and Spanish baroque. The paintings during the baroque
period this time heavily focused on building and expanding their work on naturalistic
tradition reestablished during the Renaissance (Lagasse, 2017) specifically in ways art

Conflict raise when one party makes dis agreement with other party or make reply with negative

significantly personal issues such as his school and family time due to his wife pregnancy.
There was management pressure from Jim how to improve customer service, hiring new people

Personal Narrative Reflection
My third visit to Mrs. Casanova s class has thus far been my most productive, in terms of
applying something I have learned both from this class and UCF in general. With the end of the
middle of the second nine weeks rapidly approaching so too are classroom summative
assignments. During my visit on the twentieth I was able to both see the test creation process in a
PLC and participate in the creation of some questions. Two of the three teacher I have been able to
spend time with in the classroom, the first being in internship and the second, Mrs. Casanova with
service learning. Both teachers employ direct instruction as their primary means of conveying
information, with Mrs. Casanova using it more than the honors and AP teachers. However, within
the PLC the test questions were being created for all classes, rather than having separate questions
for AP, honors, and regular classes, with the only difference being the written response questions
being more challenging in upper classes. Due to this, content evidence was very important,
especially for the upper classes, as they technically would be getting the same test as a regular.
Beyond this however, the instruction leading up to the test also had to be evaluated as the questions
were made with AP in mind. According to the book, content evidence connects to state standards
and what the students need to know based off this, which should be reflected within the instruction
(pg. 396).
One thing UCF does a great job of is

Defining Leadership And My Opinion
1.In defining leadership and in my opinion, I would have to say that it is a method that people
use to encourage others to achieve a common goal by always performing tasking the proper way.
What I mean by my definition is that every day one is placed in a position to alter from standard
procedures. Whether it be briefing the Command about something important or fixing a million
dollar diesel engine, there exists a time in many circumstances where slight deviation from
procedures will make the job easier. This is where leadershipcomes into play. A leader that has
instilled a firm foundation of ensuring those under them are aware of the implications of taking a
shortcut and are properly taught how to do tasking, will not only be even... Show more content on

The OIC told me that he would have rather the unit fail the inspection than to see me allow
someone to take a short cut. This immediately taught me a valuable lesson to not ever take the
easier route just because it is easy. Meaning, had I took the extra few minutes to have my personnel
properly stow the equipment not only would the job been officially complete, but the lesson I
would have taught the junior personnel would have been more important than the score of the
inspection.
3.The first area that I am going to work toward altering is under the Challenge the process
practice. In the area of Challenging people to try out new and innovative ways to do their work
is an area that I thought I was excelling in. As per the LPI report, that is not the case. I gave
myself a higher score than I actually received. Even the comments that were left stated that I
needed to be a little more open minded. In my job most tasking is driven by a procedure or there
is a manual somewhere that will drive one to a decision. This sometimes leads me in a direction to
repair the problem at hand and move on to the next problem. I often do this without asking for any
insight from those working for me. Effective immediately I am going to cease and desist this
action. If time permits

Summary Of Rita Hayworth And The Shawshank Redemption
In the novel Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, Andy Dufresne arrives at
Shawshank State Prison serving two life sentences when he is approximately thirty years old.
Dufresne was falsely accused of murdering his wife and his wife s secret lover and thrown into
jail for the rest of his life. In the novel and movie, Andy is notably very secretive and tight lipped.
The jury was against Andy s short and cold remarks in trial and explains why he was put into
jail. Dufresne was easily able to keep his secret tunnel, money, and identity hidden which sparked
hope within him during a time of great despair. Andy s secretive nature is a big component in
why the jury found him distasteful leading him into prison and escaping without anyone knowing.
Luckily his best friend, Red, was the man who could get it for you (1). He narrates the movie and
admits to being a cold blooded killer making him a suitable and honest man to tell the story.
Another factor in Andy Dufresne s escape was the the warden Samuel Norton. Red described him
as the foulest hypocrite that I ever saw in a high position (224). The characters in the movie
Shawshank Redemptionfeed off of Andy s optimism and intelligence and propel him to getting

Humanities And Science Lewis Thomas Analysis
Humanities and Science, by Lewis Thomas, spins around the concept of losing interest in future
prospective scientists as a result due to loss of interest of current generations. It begins with
Thomas informing you of Lord Kelvin and his feelings surrounding numbers and observation. He
wants you to understand that Kelvin s feelings were no observation of nature [is] worth paying
serious attention to unless it [can] be stated in precisely quantitative terms . His ideas unearthed
many skeptics because they couldn t understand how to quantify certain things. This is why
Thomas believes the scientific community is to blame for everyone s misunderstanding of them.

This is all to boost a new excitement for the field of science and reengage new minds. He wants to
bring the fun back that has been missing for so many years.
Questioning the present and the past is the way of learning for the future through searching the
known and unknown and rethinking the way science is taught. I agree with Thomas underlying
statement that the fun has been taken out of science. There are volumes of students slugging
through college and med school for a title and not for their love of science. An even more sad
realization are that kids are not even pursuing a scientific career because of the idea that
everything has already been figured out and there is nothing left to discover. This is the current
day problem, kids are turned off by the field of science. The only way to revive it is to ask
questions. If people don t start asking questions about what has been discovered, then there is
nowhere to go. There is the possibility that things scientists have figured out are wrong, but no one
will know if it isn t questioned or looked deeper

Fice And Parks And Recreation
The Office and Parks and Recreation are two widely popular shows that capture their audiences
with their unique story lines, mockumentary style, and captivating characters. These two shows
have won many awards and are praised by critics and viewers. When analyzing these shows it was
important to pay attention to their narrative structure. Also, breaking the fourth wall gave these
shows a twist that was different from other situation comedies. The characters are loveable and
funny and truly develop the simple plots. The Officeand Parks and Recreation are two situation
comedies with a firm grasp on the concept of narrative structure with intriguing characters that have
developed through their many seasons. The Office and Parks and Recreation have succeeded in
many aspects. They have been nominated numerous times, won many awards, have positive
reviews all over the internet, and continued their show throughout many years. Both of these shows
are situation comedies in the workplace environment. The Office is based in Scranton,
Pennsylvania and it is a functioning paper company called Dunder Mifflin. The show was created
as a faster paced, Americanized version of the British version of The Office (TV.com). A
documentary film crew came in to this paper company to follow the lives of the employees and

The Alternative Forms Of Tourism
Travel with Meaning
Do you enjoy traveling, either domestically or abroad? Do you walk, bike, drive, or take any
transportation while you travel? If you do, have you ever thought about the way that you travel can
actually affect the destination socially, economically, culturally and environmentally? These are
questions that you should ask yourself if you want to become a sustainable traveler. There are
ways to make your travel more sustainable and responsible by making the right choice from the
modes of transportation, to the place you are staying, to the activities that you do, and many more.
This paper will discuss about alternative forms of tourism, such as sustainable travel, adventure
travel and volunteer travel that give a purpose to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Based on the most recent annual report published by the World Tourism Organization, over one
billion people travel around the world and the number continues to grow every year. In the year
2013, a 5% growth is shown and it is expected to increase in the following years. While such growth
has produced benefits such as employments, business opportunities, and increased revenues from
exports and services, mass tourism is often questioned because of its contribution to negative
impacts to the travel destinations in their economic, social, cultural, and physical environment (
Why Tourism, 2015). Depending on the intensity of traveler site use, the destination can easily ran
out of the facilitation and resources necessary to accommodate the travelers, and let alone the local
residents. In order to fulfill the increased traveler demands, developers will have to construct more
hotels and facilities, which may involve buying lands and getting additional resources. In doing so,
the developers may over exploit the very environment that attracts travelers and change the
destination s character. They can transform the natural environment into an artificial attraction and
this may not only impact the daily lives of the local, but also the economy and unique culture of the
destination.
According to Sustainable Travel International, the issues that

Wal Mart s Competitive Advantage
Wal Mart Stores Inc. is American multinational retail corporation that operates a chain of
discount department stores and a warehouse stores. The company is headquartered in
Bentonville, Arkansas and was founded by Sam Walton. Wal Mart is the world s largest
company by revenue, according to Fortune Global 500 list in 2014 and the biggest private
employer in the world with over two millions employees. Wal Mart analytical strategy is to focus
on selling products at low prices to get higher volume sales at a lower profit margin. Sam Walt was
successful analytically because he was able to find lower cost suppliers and also shared his data
than those used by other stores. Walmart is an organization that uses analytics extensively and
systematically to outthink and execute the competition. Walmart has gained competitive advantage
by following four pillars of analytical competition. These are; Walmart support strategic distinctive
capability. Distinctive capability set Walmart apart from competitors and made them successful in
the market place. For example Wal Mart distinctive capability is supply chain, professional sports
is choosing the right players, Netflix is predicting customer movie preferences etc. Without
distinctive capability you cannot be analytics competitor because there is no clear process or
activity for analytics support. Secondly, Walmart has adopted enterprise level approach to
management, this ensures that the data and analysis are made available broadly

Analyzing The Film Gladiator
My film I watched was Gladiator. It was an action movie as opposed to a documentary about war. It
was based in Rome in the early times.
In the movie, the emperor of Rome was Marcus Aurelius. He was a very victorious general. After
his death he wanted Maximus to take the throne, and he wasn t even his son. Aurelius s son was
very power hungry and wanted to rule. His plan was to rule Rome and take the throne. He wanted
to murder the last ruler Marcus Aurelius and then execute Maximus, which was the new emperor
after so then he would be next in line. Maximus then escaped the execution but was then sold into
slavery. From there he was forced into being a gladiator. He was trained by Proximo. Later they

True Grit Movie
The True Grit film was directed by Henry Hathaway in 1969, and the novel was published in
1968 by Charles Portis. Mattie Ross is the main character featured in the novel, but she does not
have the principal role in the film due to the lead of Rooster Cogburn played by John Wayne. In
the novel, Mattie is portrayed as a character who is advanced for her age, brave and not letting
anything stop her, but in the movie she seems childish at times. Mattie is a fourteen year old girl
who goes on an adventure to seek revenge on the man who killed her father. Two other
characters named Rooster Cogburn and Laboeuf travel with Mattie on this adventure. The man
who murdered her father is named Tom Chaney. One day Tom came riding a horse that had a
dirty blanket he was using as a saddle, and he was also starving. Mattie s father then decides to
give him a job on their property and let him live in the cotton house. During both the novel and
the film, Mattie brings out a side of bravery that viewers or readers might wish they could be
like. For example, when she has something on her mind, she doesn t let anyone stop her from
achieving the goal she set her mind to. She can accomplish any of her goals even though she has
acts of being childish in the film but that does not occur in the novel. In the film, Mattie travels
with two others to find Chaney. Along the way, Mattie sometimes has acts of childishness. She is

Electrical Reflection
H igh power laser diodes are addressing an increasing number of applications, which demand higher
performance in terms of output power, power conversion efficiency and beam quality, such as
additive manufacturing [1]. High output power from a single emitter can be achieved by
incorporating a large gain medium, which also helps in increasing the catastrophic optical mirror
damage (COMD) threshold. Although, laser diodes are becoming more attractive in direct
applications, nevertheless, they are almost always operated with external feedback. The optics
causing this feedback range from simple optics, for shaping/focusing the output beam, to
sophisticated optics configurations, required for wavelength stabilization [2], and phase locking [3].

This is achieved by including spontaneous emission coupling and the spectral dependence of the
gain and refractive index. Speclase also models non linear effects (e.g. thermal lensing, spatial hole
burning), which are common in high brightness lasers.
The beam data produced by Speclase, in the form of near field (NF) and far field (FF), are
converted into ray data. These ray data are used to configure the laser as a source within Optic
Studio. Speclase propagates the optical fields between the rear and the front facet using 2D WA
FD BPM. At the front facet, part of the power within the modes will reflect off the facet, while the
rest will be transmitted through. The spatial superposition of transmitted powers, of all the modes,
forms the near field of the transmitted beam. The rays are propagated through the optics using
OpticStudioВ®, taking reflections into account. The rays returning to the laser facet are converted
into optical fields, taking the phases of the rays into account. Then, the proportion coupled to each
vertical mode is determined, using the overlap integral. Finally, the vertical modes, containing the
coherent sum of the power coupled from the external cavity (coherently) and the internally
reflected fields, are propagated by Speclase inside the laser cavity using a Fox Li approach. This
whole process is repeated until convergence.

In both Steven Chbosky and J.D. Salinger s coming of age novels The Perks of Being a
Wallflower and The Catcher in the Rye both authors successfully explore the idea of entering
adulthood as an outsider. The Perks of Being a Wallflower follows a fifteen year old boy,
Charlie. Charlie has recently lost his best friend Michael to suicide and is struggling to come to
terms with his death. He is in his freshman year of high school and struggles to fit in socially,
until he meets a group of seniors who take him under their wing and introduce him to a world he
could never imagine. Written in the form of a series of letters to an anonymous recipient, Chbosky

Although the reader is never told who the letters are written to, Charlie starts each letter with
Dear Friend... . He states at the start of the novel that I am writing to you because she said you
listen and understand...Please don t try to figure out who she is because then you might figure
out who I am, and I really don t want you to do that... (1.3) whilst Charlie does not give the reader
a clear explanation on who this anonymous person may be; the audience can make the
assumption that perhaps Charlie is writing these letters to help him understand his feelings.
Charlies raw and honest narration of the problems he encounters, and his dark thoughts
throughout his first year of high school allows the reader to empathise with Charlie. This
behaviour is often typical for high school aged students, as they tend to find it easier to
communicate with each other when it is not face to face. The emotions that Charlie feels are
also common for this age group, allowing the intended audience to relate to Charlie, and engage
with the narrative. Likewise, in The Catcher in the Rye first person perspective is used to allow
the reader to have direct access to the main protagonist: Holden s thoughts. Holden s honest
narration gives the reader a perspective into his world and the way he comprehends it. In Holden s
narration, Salinger uses a flashback of a momentous time of his life, when he spent three days and
nights by himself in New York City.

My Out Of Class Speaker Critique Assignment
For my out of class speaker critique assignment, I chose to go and attend the public lecture on

the wild adventure he endured throughout his comical Garfieldbusiness adventures. Regarding his

Otherwise, there seemed to be no significant or obvious distinction amongst members. The
attitudinal makeup of the audience was either neutral or positive, as Davis and his work are most
known for being lighthearted and joyful. Mr. Davis undoubtedly considered these elements when
he planned his lecture, as a large portion of it was centered around the nostalgic feeling the
Garfield comics give to the crowd (C3). Regarding the introduction used during the lecture, I felt
that it was more than effective in its explanation of Davis by showing what he is primarily known
for, what the audience was about to witness, and by creating a favorable atmosphere for the lecture.
To gain the audience s attention, a video demonstrating Mr. Davis s history and accomplishments
was played before he began his lecture. Overall, I thought that it was a moderately effective
introduction because it reinforced the interest of the audience, displayed the significance Davis has
to the illustration business, and presented his credibility as well known illustrator. For example, I
thought it was interesting that the administrator jokingly announced Davis as a man too important
to be talking a public lecture. On the other hand, however, I also thought that the introduction was
somewhat ineffective in that it never overviewed what was going to be talked about in the rest of
the lecture (C4). Concerning the support used in the speech, Mr. Davis relied heavily on qualitative

The Effects Of Aspartame On Our Supermarket Shelves
Aspartame is found in over 6000 products that are on our supermarket shelves, it goes by the
brand names of Equal, and Nutra Sweet. First one would have to look at why aspartame came to
be in over 6000 products world wide. In today s society everybody is looking for that short cut,
that way eating anything they want and staying thin and healthy. So instead of skipping the
cookies we now reach for sugar free cookies, and Diet sodaso we can still eat what we want
without all the calories. In a society where obesity is on the rise, there is a huge market for
products like aspartame. Aspartame gives you all the sweetness you want without all the
calories you don t want. So if it says sugar free or a diet product chances are aspartame is in it.
This paper intends to look into how aspartame was discovered, the steps the company took to
seek the approved to use in dry goods and eventually in soft drinks, and the controversy
surrounding its approval, as well as the side effects of using aspartame along with how consumers
are being affected by it and what companies are doing as a result of how consumers are reacting to
it. Aspartame the most consumed and most controversial sweetener in the United States. This
sweetener has made its way from the low calorie table top sweetener that most people can identify
with in the Pink or blue packets that are on the tables of our favorite diners across America, to

Analysis OfOur Oceans Are Turning Into Plastic, Are You,...
Plastic isn t known to be a substance made for consumption, but you may be eating it every day.
In Our Oceans Are Turning into Plastic...Are You? the author Susan Casey is informing us how
bad plastic is polluting our oceans. Susan Casey is the author of a New York Times best seller,
The Devils Teeth , helped publish Into Thin Air and The Perfect Storm, and is the editor and chief
of Oprah Winfrey s Magazine O . She argues that these pollutants are doing damage in multiple
facets, such as affecting food chains, disrupts organism reproduction, and directly cause the things
we consume to be harmful to us. The author found many creative ways to appeal to all three
persuasive appeals which are Logos, Pathos, and Ethos. Although the article was great at the end
she added things that weren t needed and seemed to just be there as filler. To set up the stage for
her credibility she tells a short story of the person who she gets most of her information from.
The person s name is Charles Moore he was a boat captain who decided to take a different route
that he usually takes, and he found a huge area of circling garbage in the ocean and this led to
him changing occupations and creating Marine Research Foundation. She further explains his
credentials and those who work for his foundations credibility. Her extensive explanation of
Moore and what people who work for him is an effective form of Ethos. Although the beginning
may seem long and stretched out longer than it had to be its not, she had to approach this topic
this way because she is an accomplished writer but not in this field so she with this specific
topic isn t a credible source, so she found one. Along with Ethos she threw both Pathos and
Logos back to back when she tells us how seeing dead birds wash ashore is more prevalent than
is used to be, discussing pictures of our trash cutting up animals, then showing a picture of a turtle
who is deformed because of a plastic ring. After this she has a chart that shows how much plastic
production has increased over the years and another one that shows only 3% of plastic is recycled.
That was an effective choice of timing and placement because most people when they see graphs

American Indian Religious Freedom Act
Prior to the Second World War, religious places remained untouched as they were mainly located
in rural areas. However, the period after the Second World War was characterized by an increase
in population, corporate farming, a more vibrant timber industry as well as an expanded
recreational industry. This change resulted in less respect for the public land, and the situation
was made worse by the proliferation of state and federal agencies that have no respect for the
public land. It thus becomes difficult for the Native Indians to have access to shrines as the
politicians promulgated rules that disregarded public land particularly places of worship. One such
narrow minded law that has failed to achieve its ultimate goal is the American Indian Religious
Freedom Act that was enacted in 1978. The law made it clear the government efforts of protecting
the religious rights of the American Indians not only to express their belief but also to practice this
believes through traditional religion. However, this law faced major blows especially on the
corridors of justice where the Court viewed the Congress action in enacting the American Indian
Religious Freedom Act as efforts of the government to establish a state religion.
Instead of the government respecting the right of the Indians to maintain their religious places, it
invokes its power as the custodian of the public land by claiming that it has the mandate of utilizing

Theme Of Taboo In To Kill A Mockingbird
In 1960 To Kill a Mockingbird was published by Harper Lee, leading to a revolution of change
that would forever alter America in our classrooms, our homes, and our government. The novel
would hold infamy for generations. The novel sets in the 1940 time period, and deals with heavy
themes of racism, and includes slurs and foul language. This noveldid win the Pulitzer prize despite
it being shunned as distasteful and offensive. I feel that the taboo that surrounds this book only
gives it more power in the sense that more people were exposed to it. People are drawn to the
things they cannot have, thus bringing this novel mass attention. To Kill a Mockingbirdfaced both
institutional and cultural racism in a way that no other novel did at the... Show more content on

The nature of the novel to be taboo or something that must not be read is something that gives it
much more power than it may have had if not given this recognition. It has been banned
countless, countless times, and still somehow remains a classic in the eyes of millions. It is still
one of the top 100 novels ever sold in existence. In fact, it has sold nearly 40 million copies. This
is one of the biggest reasons that it can be proven to be influential, and also show a dramatic irony
in that the banning of this novel caused it to be much more famous than it was intended to

Cyber Security And Social Engineering
Introduction
Background Information
Of all the things that we ve learned in this course, one of the weakest aspects of cyber security is
social engineering. Social engineering is a way for people to manipulate others into breaking
normal security procedures, by relying heavily on human interaction. An organization could have
the most state of the art cyber protection software and the strictest policies, but all of that can be
broken down from human error, negligence, or malice. Cyber criminals can exploit personal
information from someone easier than hacking a system for the same information. We tend to give
out personal information without thinking of the possible consequences. Security is about trust
because we trust our information is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

As a group, the first thing we did was to attain as much general information we can find on
Professor Ravi. Since many of us have taken his classes from previous semesters, we still have
his syllabi that contain his general information. Information such as his office number and
school email were easily found. All school related information can also be found on the
University of Hawaii at Manoa ICS department website. We located his class schedule by
utilizing the University of Hawaii at Manoa class availability site for the 2016 Spring semester.
There are public information sites such as WhitePages.com and YellowPages.com that allowed us
to find his last known address and phone number. A simple google search enabled us to find his
pictures and possible weekly activities and Facebook page was found easily via the search function
on Facebook. The following information has been summarized here with source materials attached

Consumerism In Children
Introduction
When I was two years old my mother enrolled me in gymnastics. Gymnastics was a huge part of
my life for the next four years. After moving up to be with the fourteen and fifteen year olds my
mother realized that something was not right, because I was having body issues at the age of six.
In the text How Do Our Children Get So Caught Up In Consumerism by Brian Swimme he
addresses the issue of how deeply affected the children of America are due to consumerism. Unlike
Swimme I do not believe that all of children s psyche problems come from ads or television. I think
they also come from people who our children highly trust. Although Swimme is right ... Show more

I wanted to look like the beautiful people on television so badly that I compromised my health for it.
Argument
Although ads and the media play a big part in the psyche of children, people with influence over
our children also play a major part. Swimme said in his quotation So as we soak it all up, it sinks
down deep in our psyche. And if this takes place in the adult soul, imagine how much more
damage is done in the psyches of our children, (148) this goes both ways between ads, media, and
parents/trusted people in children s lives. Swimme says An ad s job is to make us unhappy with
what we have. which is exactly what they are doing. They use pictures of unrealistic looking
models to make children, especially little girls, feel bad about the way they look. My coach used
the same tactics on me. He made me feel unhappy with the way I looked so I strived to look like
the older girls did, tall, pretty, and most of all, slender. The media uses shows like Americas
Next Top Model (ANTM) to show that skinny is the way to be. On this show in particular, only
the skinny girls making it to be ANTM. That is exactly how my coach made me feel. He made
me feel like if I was not skinny enough I would never make it to the Olympics no matter how good
I was.
Objection
Even though people that children trust can have a big influence on their lives the media can also.
One of the ways the media affects children are with images. Even though

The Theme Of Enslavement In The Paradise Carpet
How does the writer use language to present the theme of enslavement in The Paradise Carpet?
The Paradise Carpet, by Jamila Gavin, depicts the story of a group of child slaves attempting to
weave a lavish carpet for a wealthy gentleman. Gavin portrays the theme of enslavement through
Ishwar and the other boys, using techniques such as metaphorical language, imagery and repetition.
Gavin portrays the theme of enslavement, firstly, through the use of similes and animalistic
imagery; this is evident when the boys were crouching like caged animals . In the simile, like
caged animals , the comparison between human boys and animals trapped in a zoo indicates
dehumanisation, thus portraying the children as feral primitives. This implies that, like slaves,
Anoup and other adults perceived the boys as savage, untamable animals who deserve to be
treated accordingly. Since children are deemed to be universal symbols of innocence, the writer s
intention when describing the boys as caged animals may have been to show how their innocence
has been corrupted by child labour. In turn, this evokes intense pity from the reader, who may
regard children facing such harsh conditions to be abhorrent. Therefore, the theme of enslavement
is portrayed through the writer s use of animalistic imagery, showing how the boys suffering has
reduced them to the lowest status, like animals and slaves. Additionally, repetition and mechanical
imagery are used to present the theme of enslavement, implying that the boys are stuck in a cycle
of slavery. This is evident when they are introduced as a line of boys . In this context, line is
considered to be factory jargon, equating the line of boys to a line of machines in a factory. Gavin s
intention may have been to portray the boys as machinists, stripped of humanity, thus depicting the
negative repercussions of slavery. Consequently, the readers may consider the boys to be as numb
as machines in their brutal environment. eliciting worry for the boys emotional wellbeing. Hence,
the theme of enslavement is presented through industrial imagery, representing how, like slaves or
machines, the boys are considered to be disposable and non sentient. Furthermore, repetition of

Analysis Of The Christian College s ( Pcc ) Definition Of...
Intro
Understanding art is often thought of as being an unreachable goal, but art should not be
considered arbitrary because it influences the cultures and societies around us. The purpose of
this paper is to define and also establish my opinions on Pensacola Christian College s (PCC)
definition of art, the bibliosophy of art, and Dr. Francis Schaeffer s criteria for art. These topics
are useful for artists as well as anyone else critiquing art, and can also serve as guidelines and
standards for an artist when they create art.
PCC s Definition of Art
PCC s definition of art is stated as the organized visual expression of ideas or feelings . I believe
this definition correctly reflects God s personality as an artist with its emphasis on the word
organized. 1 Corinthians 14:40 states Let all things be done decently and in order . This belief is
consistently recognized throughout creation. While I agree with specifying the word organized, I
disagree that art should be considered completely visual, as this leaves out areas of art such as
music, performance, and writing. Overall, I believe that this definition captures art fairly well by
explaining that art expresses human emotions and ideas.
Bibliosophy of Art
The bibliosophy of art defines art is four parts which are the canon, communication, the client, and
creativity. The canon refers to the Bible and its authority in our life as an artist, communication
defines our message as an artist, the client states who we are

Orphan Train Writing Style
When I first began reading Kline s novel, Orphan Train, I originally was not a fan of the book. In
the sections featuring Molly, I felt like Kline s writing style was poor and amateur. For example,
Kline includes numerous swear words in an attempt to make the dialogue more relatable;
however, her attempt falls flat and only increases the unnecessary amount of melodrama that
exists in Molly s world. I do not find it impressive or relatable when Molly swears at Dina or
while around Jack. To be clear, I do not have an issue with swearing, but I do have an issue with
how swearing is only included to emphasize how much Molly hates Dina and furthers the idea
that Dina is a one dimensional antagonist. Dina is portrayed as essentially evil incarnate, she
disregards Molly s dietary choices, verbally abuses her husband and Molly, and has an insufferable
personality. Dina has no redeeming quality about her; Kline has failed to write a believable
antagonist. Overall, I did not enjoy the beginning of the novel.
Though I may dislike Kline s writing style and her portrayal of characters during the sections with
Molly, I enjoyed the sections with Vivian and all of her previous incarnations. Not only did Kline s
writing style significantly improve during these sections, but the majority of the characters had an
element of believability and humanity to them. Even Mr. Grote who attempts to rape Dorothy does
his best to provide for his family. I m not trying to justify his actions, I m just

The Function Of Haemoglobin And Oxygen
Introduction
Haemoglobin is a protein molecule in the red blood cell rich in iron. The major function of
haemoglobin is to transport oxygen (O2) from the lungs. The haemoglobin and oxygen
combination is called oxyhaemoglobin, Haemoglobin that has released oxygen is called reduced
haemoglobin or deoxyhaemoglobin which has a high affinity for co2 (Marieb, 2014).for this reason
oxygen is bind to the oxyhaemoglobin in the lungs and carried through the blood stream to the
tissues. Oxygen is then released to myoglobin (a red protein containing haem that carries and stores
oxygen in muscle cells) which is further transported in to the mitochondria be used for aerobic
respiration, in exchange the deoxyhemoglobin picks up 2 protons and 2 molecules and returns to
the lungs where it is released through exhalation. (McDowall, 2005)
Structure of haemoglobin is composed of four polypeptides, two identical chains called the alpha
polypeptide chains consisting of 141 amino acids each and beta polypeptide chains containing 146
amino acids each. Alpha and Beta each contain 8 helical segments. There are four globin chains
each composed of four heme groups attached to each of the four histidines. that combines with four
molecules of oxygen (see figure 1). When an iron atom is bonded to oxygen, haemoglobin changes
colour from purplish pink to bright red (oxyhaemoglobin) and when deoxygenate is changes to
blue. (Toole, 2004)
Discussion
Haemoglobin is essential for the human body because

Schuurvy Research Paper
Scurvy is a nutritional disease that stems from a lack of Vitamin C. I chose this as my topic
because I have always been interested in history and how historically on ships it was difficult to
have fresh fruit aboard because they would spoil on long trips and instead they would have meats
and foods that could be preserved with heavy amounts of salt. Scurvy was first documented as a
disease by Hippocrates and was discovered by ancient Egyptians in 1550 but people would often
forget eating Vitamin Cis an effective cure for the disease. In the 13th century people often suffered
from Scurvy. Eventually the explorers wizened up to this and the Portuguese planted fruit trees and
vegetables that they could harvest on their way home from journeys

The History of Major Earthquakes Around World Essay
The term earthquake comes from the Greek term for shaking. An earthquake is a visible rip across
the Earth s surface due to a release of energy and stored stress in the Earth s crust and causes
seismic waves. Earthquakes have been around since the time of the earliest civilizations.
Earthquakes used to be compared to the unrest of spiritual beings. Specifically, Aristotle and the
Ancient Greeks stated that earthquakes were the result of the underground winds . The earliest
earthquakes were recorded by seismometers which calculate the waves generated by each
earthquake. The original seismometer was the Wood Anderson seismometer. When an earthquake
would occur a structure would dangle and reflect light on an image. The image drawn ... Show more

The plates are in constant motion. Where they interact, along their margins, important geological
processes take place, such as the formation of mountain belts, earthquakes, and volcanoes (Spall 1).
Plate tectonics are one of the most influential factors of earthquakes. When tectonic plates slide past
each other an earthquake occurs. Typical plate tectonics move at about the same rate your
fingernail grows. The process is extremely slow before the plate moves significantly enough to
cause an earth quake but it does happen. These tectonic plates are on the fault lines which are
considered earthquake hot spots.
Earthquakes typically occur in relation to other earthquakes. After shocks that follow earthquakes,
typically occur around the same fault break as the original earthquake or can occur on nearby fault
lines as well. Earthquakes can also be triggers for future earthquakes occurring on the same fault
line or neighboring fault lines anytime from seconds to years after the orginal mainshock. In recent
decades, scientists have learned that faults and earthquakes communicate with one another in far
more diverse and interesting ways than the classic foreshock mainshock aftershock (Hough 1).
A specific type of catastrophic earthquake that comes to mind is a tsunami. A tsunami is considered
an undersea earthquake. Tsunamis are caused

Notes On Loss And Loss
Loss is one of the most common experience that each of us share with all of mankind, no matter
our age, where we live, what we do. Yet when severe loss occurs in anyone lives most of us feels
awful and have no idea how to bring about our painful emotions and continue with our day to day
lives (Wyatt, 2010).
Loss is the experience of parting with object, person, belief, or relationship that one values.
Losses are come across daily by everyone.
Losses can be minor or major.
The influence of loss depends upon the value the person placed on what was lost.
There are two type of losses,
1.Tangible (Actual or physical): They are actual and easily acknowledged for e.g. Death, loss of
body part, changes in physical health.
2.Intangible (perceived or psychological) losses are less obvious and may be tied to personal
opinion such as one s prestige, power, dreams, plans, security etc.
Grief is the process of psychological or physiological response a person experience after a loss of
valued person, object, belief or relationship.

More to hunting: than just a Sport
There is much more benefits to hunting beside a trophy that is mounted on a wall. Although
hunting is consider as a sport, it is imperative to proper conservation efforts throughout the United
States and is extremely important to control animal population which also has to do with
transportation safety. Also, huntingtremendously supports an animal s life, by minimizing disease.
The benefits overpower the negatives when it comes to ethical hunting; and for this important
reason, the division of wildlife closely analyzes and issues a calculated number of hunting licenses
each year. Hunting has been a form of collecting food and is an activity that is enjoyable and gives
time to family to bond. However, a major misconception by many is that hunting is an ethical and
an unnecessary sport, due to the trophy hunting and the entertainment that comes with hunting. The
pain and suffering that an animal could potentially endure when being hunted, has far less
suffering than if it was to die of starvation or a disease. An animal s death could be far more
agonizing and for extended periods; which is major reason on understanding both side of the
spectrum.

The Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy single handedly answers the question to the meaning of
life in a mere 220 pages. The answer to this perplexing question is 42 (Adams 180), but ironically
it is impossible to know what the question itself entails. For, according to Douglas Adams, if any
one person knows the meaning of the question and the answer at the same time, the Universe will
start over and become even weirder than it already is. His theory may seem irrational, but just

The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is known for its blend of satire, deadpan humor, and
absurdity, (Swann). It is understandable that initially, the primary readership following mainly
consisted of college kids. The book quickly grew in popularity after readers began to rave about
it. Adams s unique writing style changed literature and led to a new era of science fiction.
Douglas Adams had a lot of time to hone his skills as a writer because he started his career at a
very early age. Twelve years. For some, this is only enough time to realize finally that puberty is
just a part of growing up. For others, it may be the first time that they discover that members of
the opposite sex do not have the inoperable cooties disease. Some people may even venture out to
say that at twelve, adolescents should no longer think about stepping foot in the kiddy section
of their local Wal Mart. But it was exactly at twelve years old that Adams had the self assurance
and realization to know already what he wanted to do with his life. Shortly after getting a good
grade on a book that he had written in his class, he decided to share his brilliance with the rest of
the world. He went on to publish it, starting his career earlier than most before becoming a
teenager. His book is titled Dan Dare

  • 2. Media Piracy And Copyright Issues Media piracy and copyright issues have been seen as a huge issue in the history of national and international law. These issues have grown to greater concern up to this point in time because of the advancements in technology, the ease of stealing information, and the accepting culture of copying, sharing and redistributing copyrightmaterial. It has become a part of our daily lives like downloading music from YouTube through third party sites, pirating movies from online websites through torrents and torrent applications, or copying scripts off the internet for school productions. Since the beginning of the rise in copyright and piracy issues, research has shown that Canada and the United States have taken some similar and some different approaches these issues. The Canadian approach to copyright and piracy issues is better because; provisions to copyright and media law over the last 3 centuries have been beneficial for Canadians, content is under copyright for a number of years until it enters the public domain which benefits creators and consumers, and these laws safeguard our information and content with constant updates to provide protection against hacking, trafficking of personal info, and piracy of digital content. To begin, some history and background information on the role Canada has played in international copyright should set a stance on how involved Canada was from the late eighteen hundreds to now. In the first part of Sara Bannerman s article, she reviews ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Nuit of the Living Dead Essay Nuit of the Living Dead by David Sedaris Nuit of the Living Dead written by David Sedaris, the setting in rural France leads to part of the comedic element of this story. Reading this story very much feels like trying to follow an ADD chipmunk. There are generally several thought patterns running simultaneously throughout the entire thing. It s a quick, fun, charmingly quirky read. One of the most charming parts is the internal dialog of the main character that s constantly drizzled through the entire story. It lends such a drawing part to this story; makes it very much more captivating. About halfway into the story and it started to feel so much like a peek into my own mind that I couldn t help but chuckle a little and think to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The driver of the van struggles with a thick accent which no doubt had I been in the author s position it would have taken a great effort to stay composed. Sometimes inappropriate, not so politically correct humor is some of the funniest out there, which this writer realizes and dances so delicately along the line between funny and crass. That s what makes this story so charming for the most part. There is a line midway through that makes me snicker every single time I read it. Either he had a speech impediment or the letter v did not exist in his native language. Whatever the case, I wanted him to say it again. Paragraph thirty four is probably my favorite in the entire story, the author is seeing his living room through the eyes of his guest. As he starts to scan his living room the oddities and slightly askew parts of his life leaps out at him. He starts to feel like he probably looks like a serial killer. It s a very funny and quirky ride through what someone picks out with they come in a stranger s house; unconnected and unrelated things to us in our everyday lives looks insanely intimidating and too ordered to just be chance to strangers. There seemed to be a theme developing, and everything I saw appeared to substantiate it: the almanac of guns and firearms suddenly prominent on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Observation Of A Korean Restaurant SEOUL KIMCHI I have been interested in Korean culture since high school. Therefore, I chose to observe a Korean restaurant in Manchester. I visited Seoul Kimchi in Upper Brook Street twice on Thursday, 5pm to 6pm and Saturday 1.30pm to 2.30pm. Seoul Kimchi is located in a strategic location. Vehicles heading to the city from Wilmslow Road pass Upper Brook Street, so it is a busy road. The restaurant is white in colour so it is easily differentiated among other restaurants in the block like Subway and Zaytoon. It is a small shop accommodating 20 people at one time. During both period I visited, almost all seats are occupied. The restaurant workforce consists of four chefs (three male and one female), a dishwasher, waiter, and waitress. All chefs wore white as in most restaurants and attendants wore black. It reminds me of Harley Davidson riders who wear black as they do not show any dirt. Perhaps the same belief applies here as restaurant attendants should look clean all the time. The menu was bilingual (English and Korean) to cater all nationality but customers often ask further details such as the ingredients of the food. Customers especially non Korean must feel insecure eating food outside their culture so they ask for assurance. The situation implies that customers seriously care about what they consume especially food. When ordering, I noticed customers would point on the menu for a smoother communication with the waiter. Hence, human strive to make life easier. After ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Internal And External Factors Of Global Trade 1.What are the major factors one must consider when going global? As we all know, global trade is no easy, companies cannot just ship their products to another country and sell it in the foreign market, there are many factors need to be considered and analysis. In my point of view, the factor can be separate into internal and external factors. Internal factor: Does the product sell well in the home country? If the product is not doing good in the home country, why we should try to go global? May be some boss may think the foreign country will be adopting the product better compare to the home country, and I think this is wrong. The Product is the company s core. • 7. Analysis Of Empress Theodora And Victory Stele Of Naram-Sin Although these artworks can look completely different at first glance, they have many similarities. For example, all three artworks have one major figure, and portray an importance on that figure. Thutmose s Nefertiti only has one subject, although that subject is wearing a huge crown to signify her importance. Victory Stele of Naram Sin s artist scales Naram Sin by almost two times, compared to the rest of the figures, to show his importance. As well as giving him a helmet with two horns, unlike any other figure on the relief. He is also positioned closest to the stars, and is the major focal point. Empress Theodora s artist gave Theodora a larger head dress and a halo to signify her importance. The artist also gave her gold details on her clothing and made her slightly higher than every other figure to continue emphasizing her importance. In general, although they are very different pieces, every artist successfully tells the viewer which figure is the most important. In addition, Victory Stele of Naram Sin and Empress Theodora look very different because of the medium used and the figures shown. However, they both tell a story to the viewer. Victory Stele of Naram Sin is telling of the victory over the Lullubi people, and how the leader is considered to be a god on earth (Unknown 1). The placement of Naram Sin, his army and enemies portray this very well, and the background helps give the viewer a good idea of a setting. Empress Theodora tells of each figure walking ... • 8. Warsaw Ghetto Research Paper Ghettos were put in to segregate, restrict, and isolate the Jews from the rest of the population. Unlike Ghettos set up in medieval times, the Nazi Ghettos had walls around them and were guarded. The Warsaw Ghetto was the largest ghetto in Europe and it was built in April 1940. The Warsaw Ghetto was a residential district in Warsaw until it was designated as a Jewish ghetto in World War II by the Nazis. (Warsaw Ghetto Facts). All the Jewish people that lived in the Warsaw were sent to the ghetto. This meant that 30 percent of the population were forced into 2.4 percent of the city s area. They set up these ghettos, so the Nazis knew exactly where to find them to persecute them (Holocaust Ghettos). It is estimated that about 100,000 Jews died in the Warsaw Ghetto and about 300,000 were sent to death camps and murdered. Many of the deaths in Warsaw was because of starvation and disease. By August 1941, more than 5,000 people a month succumbed to starvation and disease (Historical Film Footage). A big factor of why people were starving was that they were not receiving enough food rations. The rations for the Jews were barely enough to sustain life, at just 181 calories a day. That barely reaches the 10 percent of the normal requirements. If one had wanted really to restrict oneself to the official rations, then the entire population of the ghetto would have had ... • 10. Absolutely True Diary Of A Part-Time Indian Have you ever wondered what it s like to live on an Indian reservation? Well in the book The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian by Sherman Alexie you can begin to see and know what it is like. This novel focuses around the life of a boy named junior who struggles with fitting in anywhere, on the rez, or in the white school he goes to. You can see his struggle with connecting to his familyand people off the rez in this book. In this journal, I will be questioning why Junior goes to a new school, predicting that he will become friends with Rowdy again, and connecting Junior to a candle. Lastly, I am connecting Junior to a candle. I know, I know that is a weird connection but just wait to hear what I mean. A candle cannot light itself. That is just impossible. There is no way in the world that a candle could light itself, it would need someone else to do it. The same also goes for Junior. He cannot make something of himself on his own; he needs the push and/or suggestion to make a change in his life from someone else. His parents letting him go to that school was like the strike of the match to light the candle itself. I connect Junior to a candle because he has a fire burning inside him and he just needed someone to light it for him. In conclusion, Junior is a very smart kid trying to handle living on an Indian reservation and having these big dreams, trying also to relate with his family and friends. Junior is trying to make it in the world, and the way to do that is for him to go to a school off the rez. In this journal, I questioned why Junior went to school off the reservation, predicted that he and Rowdy would become friends again, and connected aspects of Junior s life to a candle being ... • 11. Reflection Paper On Public Speaking Throughout this Summer I have watched myself blossom into a more confident public speaker. Prior to this class, public speaking had never been a natural ability, and I was always afraid and full of anxiety before a speech. Speaking for more than a few minutes seemed to be an impossible task. Skills of knowing how to evaluate myself as a public speakerwere absent, and I did not know how to become an effective listener. When starting the class I had little to no public speaking experience. I have never fully prepared a speech before or conducted research to gain the most information possible. Starting off with the Life in a Bag speech, I was not fully prepared and I had the idea that I would just present and say what came to mind. I was visibly nervous and I did not speak at an extemporaneous level. The amount of times Umm was said was most likely over 50, and I just couldn t get the words out. Making eye contact with anyone in the room was also absent. It was noticeable when eye contact was attempted that I would lose my current thought. When the speech was over I immediately regret not rehearsing the speech or at least planning what I was going to say. One thing I Believe I did correctly is bringing in five things that actually represent my personality. Following the Life in a Bag speech, it was time to prepare for the narrative speech. Picking a topic was more difficult than I originally thought. For a lot of people, (myself being one of them) picking a story to tell about yourself can cause the speaker to feel uncomfortable while presenting. The topic for the narrative speech did not need to be personal; however for me it seemed to be the most logical and easy way to go. I picked an embarrassing moment from my childhood when my sister replaced my toy from show and tell with a hairbrush. I looked over the notes that my peers had given me from my last speech and the biggest issues that needed to be fixed were making better eye contact, speaking at an extemporaneous level, and just being more prepared with what I was going to say. I prepared index cards for this speech, and I did rehearse my presentation which made me more fluent. When the time came to present I felt less nervous than I did for the ... There were so many things Dave went through to get to where he did. He had to jump through many hoops to get through college. This made me think about my own experiences when I came to Wilmington College myself. When I first came to the college my focus was to become a special educationteacher, but that did not happen. I had to change my whole path and go into social work. Which bothered me in the begging, but once I thoughtabout it for a while and really started to get into the material I knew it was what I was meant to do. I still get to work with kids as a social worker. It will be a little different, but I know I ll be able to have an effect on m community just like Dave. He did so many things with all the schools he either taught at or was the principle. He changed many communities around that he went to. Especially when he merged two schools together. He knew when he did it that he would lose his job, but he knew it was best for the kids. I know that when I am in the field of child welfare that I may have to take kids out of their homes because of the way they are treated or the family is not stable. It will be hard at first, but I ll know it s the right thing for the child. Being part of the community was one thing I thought Dave did very well. The upper middle class seem to expect nothing less than a college degree, while lower income families risk missing a college education, so they can go straight into the workforce. To get nontraditional students on the path of a collegeeducation, it would greatly benefit them and society. To get these students to apply for college would help to break the cycle of upper middle class diversity, allow lower income students to start thinking about college, and help to boost the economy. • 14. Race And Ethnicity And Race Zamarripa 1 Marcos Zamarripa Anthropology 9: Society and Culture October 27, 2015 Race and Ethnicity Ethnicity and race have been used in American society to the point where both words are indistinguishable from each other. Race is a social construct (Throop, Lecture, 10/8/2015). Race is a social construct because race is used to differentiate the different ethnic groups from each other. Race should not be used to separate the different ethnic groups. In American society, it is evident that certain ethnic groups are singled out for the problems in our society. Personal Narrative Reflection My third visit to Mrs. Casanova s class has thus far been my most productive, in terms of applying something I have learned both from this class and UCF in general. With the end of the middle of the second nine weeks rapidly approaching so too are classroom summative assignments. During my visit on the twentieth I was able to both see the test creation process in a PLC and participate in the creation of some questions. Two of the three teacher I have been able to spend time with in the classroom, the first being in internship and the second, Mrs. Casanova with service learning. Both teachers employ direct instruction as their primary means of conveying information, with Mrs. Casanova using it more than the honors and AP teachers. However, within the PLC the test questions were being created for all classes, rather than having separate questions for AP, honors, and regular classes, with the only difference being the written response questions being more challenging in upper classes. Due to this, content evidence was very important, especially for the upper classes, as they technically would be getting the same test as a regular. Beyond this however, the instruction leading up to the test also had to be evaluated as the questions were made with AP in mind. According to the book, content evidence connects to state standards and what the students need to know based off this, which should be reflected within the instruction (pg. 396). Summary Of Rita Hayworth And The Shawshank Redemption In the novel Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, Andy Dufresne arrives at Shawshank State Prison serving two life sentences when he is approximately thirty years old. Dufresne was falsely accused of murdering his wife and his wife s secret lover and thrown into jail for the rest of his life. In the novel and movie, Andy is notably very secretive and tight lipped. The jury was against Andy s short and cold remarks in trial and explains why he was put into jail. Dufresne was easily able to keep his secret tunnel, money, and identity hidden which sparked hope within him during a time of great despair. Andy s secretive nature is a big component in why the jury found him distasteful leading him into prison and escaping without anyone knowing. Luckily his best friend, Red, was the man who could get it for you (1). He narrates the movie and admits to being a cold blooded killer making him a suitable and honest man to tell the story. Another factor in Andy Dufresne s escape was the the warden Samuel Norton. Red described him as the foulest hypocrite that I ever saw in a high position (224). In the year 2013, a 5% growth is shown and it is expected to increase in the following years. While such growth has produced benefits such as employments, business opportunities, and increased revenues from exports and services, mass tourism is often questioned because of its contribution to negative impacts to the travel destinations in their economic, social, cultural, and physical environment ( Why Tourism, 2015). Depending on the intensity of traveler site use, the destination can easily ran out of the facilitation and resources necessary to accommodate the travelers, and let alone the local residents. In order to fulfill the increased traveler demands, developers will have to construct more hotels and facilities, which may involve buying lands and getting additional resources. Electrical Reflection H igh power laser diodes are addressing an increasing number of applications, which demand higher performance in terms of output power, power conversion efficiency and beam quality, such as additive manufacturing [1]. High output power from a single emitter can be achieved by incorporating a large gain medium, which also helps in increasing the catastrophic optical mirror damage (COMD) threshold. Although, laser diodes are becoming more attractive in direct applications, nevertheless, they are almost always operated with external feedback. The optics causing this feedback range from simple optics, for shaping/focusing the output beam, to sophisticated optics configurations, required for wavelength stabilization [2], and phase locking [3]. ... Speclase also models non linear effects (e.g. thermal lensing, spatial hole burning), which are common in high brightness lasers. The beam data produced by Speclase, in the form of near field (NF) and far field (FF), are converted into ray data. These ray data are used to configure the laser as a source within Optic Studio. Speclase propagates the optical fields between the rear and the front facet using 2D WA FD BPM. At the front facet, part of the power within the modes will reflect off the facet, while the rest will be transmitted through. The spatial superposition of transmitted powers, of all the modes, forms the near field of the transmitted beam. The rays are propagated through the optics using OpticStudioВ®, taking reflections into account. The rays returning to the laser facet are converted into optical fields, taking the phases of the rays into account. Then, the proportion coupled to each vertical mode is determined, using the overlap integral. Finally, the vertical modes, containing the coherent sum of the power coupled from the external cavity (coherently) and the internally reflected fields, are propagated by Speclase inside the laser cavity using a Fox Li approach. However, the period after the Second World War was characterized by an increase in population, corporate farming, a more vibrant timber industry as well as an expanded recreational industry. This change resulted in less respect for the public land, and the situation was made worse by the proliferation of state and federal agencies that have no respect for the public land. It thus becomes difficult for the Native Indians to have access to shrines as the politicians promulgated rules that disregarded public land particularly places of worship. One such narrow minded law that has failed to achieve its ultimate goal is the American Indian Religious Freedom Act that was enacted in 1978. The law made it clear the government efforts of protecting the religious rights of the American Indians not only to express their belief but also to practice this believes through traditional religion. However, this law faced major blows especially on the corridors of justice where the Court viewed the Congress action in enacting the American Indian Religious Freedom Act as efforts of the government to establish a state religion. Instead of the government respecting the right of the Indians to maintain their religious places, it invokes its power as the custodian of the public land by claiming that it has the mandate of utilizing any piece of public land for the benefit of the entire ... And if this takes place in the adult soul, imagine how much more damage is done in the psyches of our children, (148) this goes both ways between ads, media, and parents/trusted people in children s lives. Swimme says An ad s job is to make us unhappy with what we have. which is exactly what they are doing. They use pictures of unrealistic looking models to make children, especially little girls, feel bad about the way they look. My coach used the same tactics on me. He made me feel unhappy with the way I looked so I strived to look like the older girls did, tall, pretty, and most of all, slender. • 47. The Theme Of Enslavement In The Paradise Carpet How does the writer use language to present the theme of enslavement in The Paradise Carpet? The Paradise Carpet, by Jamila Gavin, depicts the story of a group of child slaves attempting to weave a lavish carpet for a wealthy gentleman. Gavin portrays the theme of enslavement through Ishwar and the other boys, using techniques such as metaphorical language, imagery and repetition. Gavin portrays the theme of enslavement, firstly, through the use of similes and animalistic imagery; this is evident when the boys were crouching like caged animals . In the simile, like caged animals , the comparison between human boys and animals trapped in a zoo indicates dehumanisation, thus portraying the children as feral primitives. This implies that, like slaves, Anoup and other adults perceived the boys as savage, untamable animals who deserve to be treated accordingly. Since children are deemed to be universal symbols of innocence, the writer s intention when describing the boys as caged animals may have been to show how their innocence has been corrupted by child labour. In turn, this evokes intense pity from the reader, who may regard children facing such harsh conditions to be abhorrent. Therefore, the theme of enslavement is portrayed through the writer s use of animalistic imagery, showing how the boys suffering has reduced them to the lowest status, like animals and slaves. Additionally, repetition and mechanical imagery are used to present the theme of enslavement, implying that the boys are stuck in a cycle of slavery. This is evident when they are introduced as a line of boys . In this context, line is considered to be factory jargon, equating the line of boys to a line of machines in a factory. Gavin s intention may have been to portray the boys as machinists, stripped of humanity, thus depicting the negative repercussions of slavery. Consequently, the readers may consider the boys to be as numb as machines in their brutal environment. eliciting worry for the boys emotional wellbeing. Hence, the theme of enslavement is presented through industrial imagery, representing how, like slaves or machines, the boys are considered to be disposable and non sentient. Intro Understanding art is often thought of as being an unreachable goal, but art should not be considered arbitrary because it influences the cultures and societies around us. The purpose of this paper is to define and also establish my opinions on Pensacola Christian College s (PCC) definition of art, the bibliosophy of art, and Dr. Francis Schaeffer s criteria for art. These topics are useful for artists as well as anyone else critiquing art, and can also serve as guidelines and standards for an artist when they create art. PCC s Definition of Art PCC s definition of art is stated as the organized visual expression of ideas or feelings . I believe this definition correctly reflects God s personality as an artist with its emphasis on the word organized. 1 Corinthians 14:40 states Let all things be done decently and in order . This belief is consistently recognized throughout creation. While I agree with specifying the word organized, I disagree that art should be considered completely visual, as this leaves out areas of art such as music, performance, and writing. Overall, I believe that this definition captures art fairly well by explaining that art expresses human emotions and ideas. Bibliosophy of Art The bibliosophy of art defines art is four parts which are the canon, communication, the client, and creativity. The canon refers to the Bible and its authority in our life as an artist, communication defines our message as an artist, the client states who we are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the sections featuring Molly, I felt like Kline s writing style was poor and amateur. For example, Kline includes numerous swear words in an attempt to make the dialogue more relatable; however, her attempt falls flat and only increases the unnecessary amount of melodrama that exists in Molly s world. I do not find it impressive or relatable when Molly swears at Dina or while around Jack. To be clear, I do not have an issue with swearing, but I do have an issue with how swearing is only included to emphasize how much Molly hates Dina and furthers the idea that Dina is a one dimensional antagonist. Dina is portrayed as essentially evil incarnate, she disregards Molly s dietary choices, verbally abuses her husband and Molly, and has an insufferable personality. Dina has no redeeming quality about her; Kline has failed to write a believable antagonist. Overall, I did not enjoy the beginning of the novel. • 51. The Function Of Haemoglobin And Oxygen Introduction Haemoglobin is a protein molecule in the red blood cell rich in iron. The major function of haemoglobin is to transport oxygen (O2) from the lungs. The haemoglobin and oxygen combination is called oxyhaemoglobin, Haemoglobin that has released oxygen is called reduced haemoglobin or deoxyhaemoglobin which has a high affinity for co2 (Marieb, 2014).for this reason oxygen is bind to the oxyhaemoglobin in the lungs and carried through the blood stream to the tissues. Oxygen is then released to myoglobin (a red protein containing haem that carries and stores oxygen in muscle cells) which is further transported in to the mitochondria be used for aerobic respiration, in exchange the deoxyhemoglobin picks up 2 protons and 2 molecules and returns to the lungs where it is released through exhalation. (McDowall, 2005) Structure of haemoglobin is composed of four polypeptides, two identical chains called the alpha polypeptide chains consisting of 141 amino acids each and beta polypeptide chains containing 146 amino acids each. Alpha and Beta each contain 8 helical segments. There are four globin chains each composed of four heme groups attached to each of the four histidines. that combines with four molecules of oxygen (see figure 1). Typical plate tectonics move at about the same rate your fingernail grows. The process is extremely slow before the plate moves significantly enough to cause an earth quake but it does happen. Although hunting is consider as a sport, it is imperative to proper conservation efforts throughout the United States and is extremely important to control animal population which also has to do with transportation safety. Also, huntingtremendously supports an animal s life, by minimizing disease. Hunting has been a form of collecting food and is an activity that is enjoyable and gives time to family to bond.
