Keywords Transformational leadership, Trust, Women, Team working Paper type Research paper
Introduction Over the past several decades, the forces of rapid economic and technological change, the
influx of women and minorities into the workforce, the economic shift to a post industrial, global
economy and an investment market emphasis on short term profits combined to reshape organizations.
Major components of the change included organizational restructuring, the erosion of employee trust,
increasingly greater workforce diversity and the emergence of work teams as drivers of firm
performance. Concurrently, many women in organizations, mostly confined to the lower and middle
management levels and in the majority of firms denied any opportunity to move

Unity of a Family Explored in The Grapes of Wrath Essay
Unity of a Family Explored in The Grapes of Wrath
One would say that on a literal level The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck is about the Joad family s
journey to California during The Dust Bowl. However, it is also about the unity of a family and the
concept of birth and death, both literal and abstract. Along with this, the idea of a family unit is
explored through these births and deaths.
As can be seen in The Grapes of Wrath, the Joads are a very tight knit family. Yet on their trip to
California, they experience many losses and additions to their family. In general, Steinbeck s novel
abides by the circle of life. When a birth occurs, a death follows, and when a death occurs, a birth
follows. However, in The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Chapter Thirteen, Grampa does die, as he was never truly the same once he left his land. This is
because the land goes back to Grampa s ancestry, and losing the land is like losing a family member.
This is the Joad family s first run in with death on their journey, yet Ma Joad still manages to keep the
family together.
Moreover, in Chapter Thirteen, as the Joad family continues on their journey, they meet the Wilson
family. The two families decide to carry on with their trip together. It is at this point that Steinbeck
follows the pattern of the circle of life. Steinbeck begins by writing about the rebirth of Tom Joad.
Next, Grampa dies. Following this, there is a birth for the Joads when they add the Wilson family to
their own. However, as previously stated, in order to represent the hardships of the journey, many
more deaths than births occur in the novel. In Chapter Eighteen alone, Noah leaves the family, the
Joads continue on without the Wilson family, and Granma dies. It may seem like these losses would
tear the family apart, but Ma Joad understands the concept of family, and tries her hardest to keep the
family as one unit. For example, Ma Joad sits up all night with Granma s dead body, jut so the family
can cross the border. The fambly hadda get acrost (312).
Furthermore, by the time Chapter Nineteen ends, the Joads lost their land, their dog, Grampa, Noah,
Granma, and the Wilsons. In Chapter

Physical And Psychological Factors Affecting Health And...
Stress is a quantity that every human is afforded. It is how the body and mind interact in response to a
stressor. Each stressor whether in the form of a major life experiences, traumatic events, work, school,
and even exercise can be stressful. Stress of any amount makes an impact on a persons health and
behaviors. Therefore, it is important to take notice of how you manage stressful events in your life
however great or small an effect. Though everyone experiences stress in one way or another, no two
people cope with stress in the same manner. Some individuals are more effective and recover from
demanding situations quicker than others do. Consequently, the quality of health is contingent upon
the type of stress and duration of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, the more occasions of stress there are, the perception of stress is heightened thus, the
older you are, less stress is reported whereas, more stress is reported if younger. When comparing
seniors to non seniors, t scores for hypothesis #1, the mean average for seniors (mean=39.17) was
similar to non seniors (mean=39.41) showing the seniors did not have a significantly higher scores of
perceived stress and USQ. Needless to say, the report doesn t exactly prove all elements of the said
theory to be true. How we coping with stressors aren t limited to a biological perspective, where the
genetic makeup can alter how people respond to traumatic events, but it extends to a host of external
factors such as family, friends, employment, time, and money. (Straub, 2014, pg.157). Stressors are
ever present and no one can escape them but, the more resources you have, the more effective you are
in coping with such events. All of the external elements contribute to the socioeconomic status and it
is one of the more significant factors that affects health. I revisit the idea of psychological, behavioral,
social, and biological factors in response to health and stressful events. The influence that stress has
on the totality of our being is pretty impressive. Insomuch as in a younger individual, acute stress can
potentially become adaptive and may not inflict

A Person Of Mixed Race 1991
A Person of Mixed Race Explores Notions of Race, 1991 describes how an American sees race as not
just a physical characteristic but rather what it embodies in a person. He perceives himself as a
hyphenated Asian American due to others perceptions, however, he sees himself as a male human
being . The author does attempt for, passing for an Asian by the changing of his middle name to be
closer to his roots. The author, however, does not want to just be determined by his heritage and his
features but rather what he makes of himself in the world. The idea of Race has always been a
defining factor in where people end up in class, status, or the image they have in the United States. As
soon as someone is categorized, they are stuck in that notion

Similarities Between The Parthenon And The Carnegie Library
The historical qualities of certain art and architecture creates an opportunity for communities to
connect with the past in order to improve the character of a community. One such improvement that
took place right here in Bozeman, MT was the building of The Carnegie Library in the early nineteen
hundreds. With the creation of this library, the builders not only set out to improve the educational
qualities of Bozeman s downtown, but it sought to create a hub for historical qualities in Bozeman, as
well as around the world. This historical connection lead the builders all the way to the height of the
Greek Empire. The historical connections, both stylistically and contextually, lead my group to do a
comparison between The Carnegie Library in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This library was funded by steel industry tycoon Andrew Carnegie, who had money given to towns
across the country with the goal of achieving better education across the United States. The building
elements of the design of this building were done for the purpose of constructing an environment that
attests to this goal. The primary builder decided to design her building with a connection to
architecture during the Greek Empire. One building that our group saw particular similarities to was
the Parthenon in Athens, Greece. The connection between the Parthenon and Carnegie Library
contextually was done for the purpose of adding in historical qualities to downtown Bozeman. The
connection to the respected empire of Greece shows that the library is educated on some of the life in
ancient Greece, especially pertaining towards the art and architectural style of the period, and also
serves as a sort of a preview to the wealth of information that lies inside of the building. Another
contextual element that draws these two buildings is the purpose of their construction. The Parthenon
was erected in Athens as a way to honor their patron deity Athena, as well as housing many important
artifacts that served as symbols of Athens victories over the Persians. The designer of The Carnegie
Library used these qualities to try and build the library to resemble a temple. This design choice shows
where the designers intended the library to serve as a place to worship knowledge, rather than the
conventional religion or

Ecstatic Techniques In Appalachian Spring By Martha Graham
Martha Graham is a contemporary choreographer that had a huge career with her unique style of
choreographies. During her lifetime she seen dance evolve and grow from an art form to an
established one. She was a pioneer and a visionary who created her own movement language, she
showed that dance could be a serious art form because it explored human emotions. Today; her
movement techniques are used worldwide and is a commonplace in dance classes as well.
One of her famous dance pieces Appalachian Spring is a dance about the American experience, but
more specifically it s about a young pioneer and bride excited to begin their life together on the
American frontier. The dance piece has a youthfulness to it but also maturity, while you watch this
piece you can see the couple in love and full of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

with a happy smile on his face looking towards the sky. Then he goes into a jump spin and hops

He then hops up and down then goes into a tight spin; he then goes into the same movement as the

Provide a brief definition of each of the following statistics. You may write out the equations if you
like, but you should demonstrate that you understand the statistic s meaning and how it is used as a
tool for research results analysis and/or research design. Mean, Median, Mode, Range, Variance,
Standard Deviation, Z score, Significance Level, Confidence Interval, Between sum of squares,
Within sum of squares, Correlation coefficient.
Understanding Statistics and Research Design Statistical analysis is a critical element to the research
process. Understanding the functions of the varying mathematical representations of collected
empirical data is a fundamental step in the research design process (Creswell, 2009). The intent of this
paper is to explain the fundamental language of statistics, and how each one is used to draw solid
conclusions to research hypotheses.
Measures of Central Tendency One of the immediate steps in the research process after collecting the
data is to determine a mathematical average, or central tendency (Salkind, 2010). Central tendencies
are used to represent a typical variable for a given data set. There are three forms of central tendencies
that concern statistical analysis and research: mean, median, and mode (Martin Bridgmon, 2012).
Mean
Mean is one of the most commonly utilized mathematical representations in

Comparing O Brien s The Things They Carried and Ninh s...
Comparing O Brien s The Things They Carried and Ninh s The Sorrow of War
Bao Ninh s The Sorrow of War is a contrapuntal reading to American literature on the Vietnam War.
But rather than stand in stark contrast to Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried, The Sorrow of War
is strangely similar, yet different at the same time. From a post colonialist standpoint, one must take in
account both works to get an accurate image of the war. The Sorrow of War is an excellent
counterpoint because it is truthful. Tim O Brien writes: . . . you can tell a true war story by its absolute
and uncompromising allegiance to obscenity and evil. (O Brien, 42) Bao Ninh succeeds in this
respect. And it was for this reason that the Vietnamese ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only were American soldiers well muscled and athletes, (191) but some of them were black.
Whites were not particularly strange, as Vietnam had been under French rule, but blacks must have
been something of a frightening, unfamiliar novelty. This too is reflected in the text. When Kien and
Hoa encounter an American platoon in the jungle, the blacks in the platoon are the first thing Kien
describes, after describing what was not a man, but a tracker dog as big as a calf. (189) And when the
soldiers smoke rosa canina, one of the things they hallucinate is groups of headless black American
soldiers right along with hallucinations about fantastic creatures and extinct animal species. With these
counterpoints to the American views of Vietnamese soldiers, an American certainly gets a different
picture of the war.
Bao Ninh s portrayal of postwar Vietnam also fosters a more objective viewpoint of the war. After the
war, the Americans took their twisted memories back home, to an unscathed country where nearly
everyone had something to go back to. For North Vietnamese soldiers, home was where the horror had
been, and in many ways still was. He is plain in his message: The recent years of war had brought
enough suffering and pain to last them a thousand years. (75) Kien s slow, painful demise is brought
on by the heavy sorrow of war as he is haunted by an eternal past. (88) During the war North
Vietnamese soldiers were but insects or an ant who

Industrial relations ideologies
Introduction A frame of reference is not a philosophical concept. It refers to one s worldview and the
evaluation or judgement of one s observations. One s frame of reference coincides with one s
behaviour and the consequences thereof. Therefore, a frame of reference is fixed but one needs to be
sensitive and accept individual differences in frames of reference. This paper aims to address the
frame of reference of Pick n Pay s chairman and joint managing director, Mr Raymond Ackerman.
The arguments presented in this paper are my own with a theoretical basis from the work of Bluen
(1987). My interpretation of Mr Ackerman s frame of reference will be presented in relation to the
organisation, conflict, collective bargaining and trade ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This reiterates the notion of balance of power. Collective bargaining The ability for positions to reach
a consensus is reached through collective bargaining. Bluen (1987) infers that the pluralist frame of
reference does not seek to remove conflict but to manage it. Mr Ackerman acknowledged the
existence of conflict and tried to manage it by sending his negotiating team to resolve the conflict and
end the strike. Mr Ackerman has a pluralist view because he believes the issue should have been
resolved during negotiations. He even went as far as awarding greater bargaining flexibility to the
negotiating team. The mere fact that Mr Ackerman was so determined to resolve the conflict though
means of collective bargaining should eliminate the likelihood of a unitary frame of reference.
Collective bargaining, an equitable balance of power, and essentially the aim to compromise confirm
that Mr Ackerman holds a pluralist view on industrial relations. Mr Ackerman fought to reach a
consensus for personal and economic reasons. The breakthrough to reach a consensus was achieved
after he delivered his speech. He appealed to the opposing union members by focusing on personal
matters. This led to the agreement of a negotiation. Mr Ackerman considered going up on his
agreement and the union considered going down on theirs. No suppression or unilateral decision
making occurred. In

within most project settings. (Dominick, 2011) A vast number of projects are increasingly relying on
the use of teamwork processes to meet the challenges of global competition vis à vis the attainment of
desired project outcomes. Myriads of project settings rely on teams to increase quality and efficiency,
reengineer systems, design and launch products, determine strategy and eventually manage projects.
(Guzzo Dickson, 1996). In response to this challenge, teamwork has been implemented in diverse
projects in different countries over the last few years, taking a range of forms in theory and practice
(Frobel Marchington, 2005). Faced with this growing demand for a workforce with teamwork

new project management graduates bring to the workplace. With the use of teams so widespread,
project management scholars all over the world will eventually work and interface with teams locally

Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System
Living in the United States as an international student, one of the notable things for me was the
remarkable number of obese people or I d rather say people above average weight. Counted among the
people above average weight back home, I was surprised when people considered me slim here. I
came to a conclusion that the concept of relativity is to blame for this. This thing clearly suggests the
growing problem of obesity in the United States which I have been able to observe first handedly for
quite a long time now. Not only my personal observation and experience, but even the statistics show
that the problem of obesity in the United States is at an alarming state. Among the respondents in
Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) conducted by CDC, 28.1% were obese. State
specific obesity ranged from 20.5% in Colorado to 34.7% in Louisiana. While some people might
blame their genes for obesity, I believe that lifestyle is the main cause of obesity. With the
advancement of technology, people have become far too sophisticated, mainly in the developed
country. And that counts for the fact that obesity is prevalent mostly among the developed countries
including the United States of course. For instance, most of the families including mine in Nepal do
not own a washing machine. So, the effort that people put on washing their own clothes instead of just
throwing them into a machine and pushing a button actually helps to burn some calories. Also,
everyone does not

Apple is a technology company that is forever changing. From the iPod to the iTouch/iPhone to the
Mac, Apple s rapid growth as a technology superpower could not have been possible without an
intricate information system. The innovation of Apple over the years has seen unprecedented advances
in the way we look at technology. This is important to Apple because they have expanded their range
of business and revolutionized their product. The problem with this is that not a lot of companies and
businesses see Apple as unnecessary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of this would be the Apple Pay technology. Apple Pay is a mobile payments service and
digital wallet application that utilizes Near Field Communication (NFC) to initiate secure payment
transactions between contactless payment terminals and devices like the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and
Apple Watch (Webopedia). Apple Pay allows owners of Apple devices the opportunity to add multiple
credit or debit cards onto that device and instantly pay at a location by simply placing their device
over the scanner. This technology could be implemented into Howard University s Bison One Card by
adding Dining Dollars or Bison Bucks into the application software, thus eliminating the need to
always swipe your card at various locations around campus. This would also eliminate the struggle
some students encounter of not being able to eat or swipe into the café because they have lost or
misplaced their card. The biggest problem Howard University faces with implementing this new
technology is the substantial cost. Blue Pay breaks down the Apple Pay implementation costs with
prices of the NFC terminals in range from $300 to $500, excluding the cost of additional software
upgrades if needed. Depending on which locations, if not all, across campus will support this
technology, this cost will surely add up. Merchants must also weigh in the cost of employee training.
Employees must understand how to properly use NFC contactless readers to process payments. The
training should also include refunds, chargebacks, and cancellations. This cost can vary, depending on
the size of the staff. Blue Pay ultimately estimates the total cost ranging anywhere from $1000 to
$2000 per unit after factoring in hardware, software and wages (Blue

Summary Of Crito By Plato
In Crito by Plato, Socrates faces a difficult dilemma. Socrates has been wrongfully charged of impiety
and corrupting the children and is approached with an offer from his close friend Crito who says he
will help Socrates escape and give him a nice place to live away from Athens where he can flee from a
wrongful execution. Socrates should stay in prison and face his execution in order to prove he is
innocent. Socrates wants to do no wrong at all and comes to the conclusion that escaping would do
more harm than facing a wrongful execution. He feels that escaping would be wronging those who
wronged him which is still doing wrong. The laws have not wronged Socrates but the people of
Athens have. These laws helped him grow into the man he is and he feels he would be doing a
disservice to them by going against what he swore to stay true to. When Crito tells Socrates that
people will see him as a bad friend Socrates replies, But why, my dear Crito, should we care about the
opinion of the many? Good men, and they are the only persons who are worth considering, will think
of these things truly as they happened . Basically, Socrates is explaining that what people think is
irrelevant and that good men will understand Socrates decision and will not think poorly of Crito as
they will see things as they truly happened. If Socrates were to leave he would be breaking his
agreement to obey the laws. Socrates swore an oath to accept the verdict and penalty and if he left

Separate But Equal Doctrine
Brianna Ellis Mrs. Holt M/J Law Studies 8 October 2017 African Americans were granted full
citizenship, by the Fourteenth Amendment, in the year of 1868; segregation did not end until almost a
hundred years later, in 1964. The separate but equal doctrine allowed segregation as long as blacks
and whites had equal facilities. During the time of separate but equal many debated whether this
doctrine was constitutional or not. The monumental Supreme Court cases Plessy vs Ferguson and
Brown vs Board of Education shaped America s society by deciding the constitutionality of the
separate but equal doctrine. In the year of 1896, the Supreme Court case Plessy vs Ferguson shaped
America s society by concluding that the separate but equal doctrine was constitutional. This all began
when Homer Plessy, who was one eighth black, sat in the white designated train car. He was arrested
because he was in violation of the 1890 Separate Car Act, which declared that all rail companies must
implement separate but equal accommodations for white and black passengers. Plessy contended in
court that the Act infringed upon the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Amendments. After two unsuccessful
attempts in lower courts, he took his case to the Supreme Court, which upheld the earlier rulings that
segregation is constitutional under the separate but equal doctrine. The Supreme Court decision for
Plessy vs Ferguson ruled in favor of Ferguson, 7 1. The majority found that the separate but equal
doctrine did not violate the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Amendment, while the minority found the
complete opposite. The majority identified the purpose of the Fourteenth Amendment as enforce[ing]

Beth Fennelly s Poetry Essay
Beth Ann Fennelly and Tom Franklin read a few of their pieces at a public reading. Beth Fennelly
writes poetry and short stories while her husband Tom read sections of longer fiction pieces. The two
even combined to write a novel that they shared a bit of!
Beth started the readings off alone, reading a few of her poems and short stories. The first poem that
she read was a love poem of sort. It was the story of what would have been if she had met her husband
at an earlier time. Beth is from Chicago, but the story takes place in Tom s home state of Alabama. I
loved the alliteration in a few of the lines. Dumb as dalmatians and plaid pajamas (although out of
context), sounded smooth rolling off the tongue of the speaker. The poem was a great selection for the
reading because it showed the deep bond that the two share.
Beth read several stories that were extremely short. Even shorter than William Carlos Williams Red

the stories were able to convey a lot of emotion. My favorite short poem was called Married Love. It

he is hungover and unshaven at work. Once the man is suspended from work he realizes how
important his job is to his life. Everything he does revolves around his job. This realization in the story

During this growth the brain is at danger of certain disease due to infections, poor nutrition, and poor
oxygen. Some of these diseases are associated with epilepsy. The neurons of the brain develop into
complex webs of wire. Defects in the wiring during brain development could lead to epilepsy and so
can a head injury due to an accident or a stroke. The brain repairs itself making new wiring. If the new
wiring is abnormal it could cause seizures. Diseases of the brain such as hydrocephalus and meningitis
could cause epilepsy. Poisoning of the brain like lead and carbon monoxide poisoning could lead to
seizures. Some types of epilepsy run in families suggesting hereditary causes.
There are different types of seizures, Partial seizures are seizures that limit themselves to one part of
the brain. In partial seizures, a person may experience sudden feelings of joy or sadness or sudden
sensations of smell, hearing, or vision. Another type of a partial seizure is called complex partial

moving in a circle, striking out at walls or moving an arm or leg without being able to control the
movement. Seizures that spread to the rest of the brain are called generalized seizures. These seizures

Essay on Death Penalty Debate
Why is the death penalty still allowed throughout much of the U.S.? The process of prosecuting and
convicting an individual is astronomical, and there is great debate as to whether the death penalty
actually works as a deterrent. Retribution and biasness have contributed too many that have received
this sentence, considering all this, life imprisonment is best for all, realistically, and most effective.
The advantages of life imprisonment far more outweigh the death sentence. Death Penalty
America has always had a history of using the death penalty, but no subject has received greater

data that shows that the death penalty acts as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(NAKELL, 1978) The death penalty is much more expensive than life imprisonment without parole.
Capital trails are longer and more expensive at every step than other murder trials. Capital cases tend
to last several years and can consist of pretrial motions, expert witness investigations, jury selection,
and the necessity for two trials; one on guilt and the other on sentencing. Once an individual is
sentenced to death, the case automatically gets appealed to the state, then to the Court of Appeals and
finally to the Supreme Court. Guilty pleas in capital punishment cases are almost unheard of, plus
many of these trials result in life sentences anyway, so the state in which the trial is held ends up
paying for the costs of the capital case. The extreme costs of capital punishment are actually making
America less safe because financial and legal resources are being diverted from effective crime
fighting. When a prosecutor decides to pursue a capital case they go to extensive and costly means,
this may include the use of forensics, psychology, technology, and witnesses. The states (tax payers)
also suffer; security precautions imposed by the death sentence must be paid. In the end the offender
may die in prison, so there is no reliable data that the death penalty

Factors That Can Promote or Hinder Enterpreneurship
LIST AND EXPLAIN FACTORS THAT CAN PROMOTE OR HINDER ENTREPRENEURSHIP.
Entrepreneur: An entrepreneur is a person who starts an enterprise. He searches for change and
responds to it. A number of definitions have been given of an entrepreneur The economists view him
as a fourth factor of production along with land labour and capital.
To put it very simply an entrepreneur is someone who perceives opportunity, organizes resources
needed for exploiting that opportunity and exploits it. Computers, mobile phones, washing machines,
ATMs, Credit Cards, Courier Service, and Ready to eat Foods are all examples of entrepreneurial
ideas that got converted into products or services. Some definitions of an entrepreneur are listed

Teamwork. Nobody can achieve anything alone so this is true also for an entrepreneur because they re
not a Superman . They must be team players for their own and business success. 9. Calculated risk.
This is truly one of the most important questions: Are they taking enough risk? Yes, each business
startup is in some level risky. However, more important is how a successful entrepreneur takes a risk?
The word calculated risk is the most appropriate word for this feature. 10. Self Confidence. Self
confidence is a really important and key factor. I think that nobody would be an entrepreneur if don t
have self confidence that he knows how to start and manage their own business. 11. Experience.
Sometimes experience is in category not must have as a factor, but it is something that will increase
business potential energy. They must employ all present and previous experience they have into the
business that they are building. 12. Talent. Talent is something inborn in an entrepreneur. Sometimes
talent can be replaced with knowledge. 13. Honesty. Honesty is important in every case, but
sometimes honesty, being real can be the biggest enemy of an entrepreneur in some complex
conditions. 14. Connections. More connection means

Women´s Civil Rights and Ayaan Hirsi
Ayaan Hirsi Ali is a voice for women in the Muslim diaspora. Her outspoken nature and strong
criticism of the Qur an have led to threats on her life by many religious leaders. Hirsi Ali was born in
1969 in war torn Somalia. Her father was a prominent member of the party responsible for the
Somalian Revolution, however autonomy was a constant struggle in the early life of Ayaan Hirsi Ali.
As a child, she was subjected to Female Genital Mutilation. As a young adult, her family tried to force
her into an arranged marriage with her cousin. These struggles became the catalyst for the film she
wrote, Submission, in which she discusses the verses in the Qur an some men use to justify supremacy
over women. The compilation of these circumstances is what led to her career in civil rights for
women in the Muslim world. One passage Ayaan Hirsi Ali s film Submission focuses on, is the
menstruation of women: It is harm, so keep away from wives during menstruation. And do not
approach them until they are pure. And when they have purified themselves, then come to them from
where Allah has ordained for you. Indeed, Allah loves those who are constantly repentant and loves
those who purify themselves (The Qur an: A New Translation, Surat Al Baqarah Q 2:222).
The focus on ritual cleanliness denotes misogyny and a fear of menstruation in the Qur an. This
ideology has been passed down through the generations and has mutated into patriarchal control of the
reproductive organs of many

Selection And Development Of Talent Management
Selection and Development in Talent Management C4.12 Bellevue University Selection and
Development in Talent Management The shortage of skilled employees combined with tightening
budgets has left many organizations reassessing their talent management investments. Limited
resources and changes in the type of labor needed have left manufacturing firms with the difficult
choice of whether to invest in the development of internal talent or looking outside the firm. The
purpose of this paper is to present a theoretical analysis of the selection or develop of skilled trades in
a large manufacturing organization. War for Skilled Labor Wheeler (1998) suggests that
manufacturing organizations are moving to more advanced and sophisticated processes that require a
workforce with advanced skill sets. The successful recruitment and development of skilled labor is
imperative as technological advances and complex machinery becomes a necessity for manufacturing
companies to remain competitive (Thornhill, 2006). Michaels, Handfield Jones, and Axelrod (2001)
propose that declining birth rates and earlier retirements could create a skills shortage in critical areas.
They refer to this trend as the impending War for Talent. The aging workforce continues to be a
growing concern for organizations (Bloom, Canning, Sevilla, 2003). Thomas Calo (2008) has sent a
call to action for HR professionals. He first warns of the effect the retirement of baby boomers will

Sanity And Insanity In Shakespeare s King Lear
Determining the sanity and insanity of an individual can be extremely hard, especially when you do
not know much about the person. In Shakespeare s King Lear there are many character who seem like
they are going mad, and an example of such a character is King Lear. King Lear succumbs to anger,
rash decisions, and grief driving him to insanity, thus leading to the destruction of the kingdom. King
Lear is a character who displays a great deal of anger throughout the course of the play, he often
allows his anger to take over him. A lot of things that are said and during the course of the play are due
to Lear s anger which is a leading factor for his insanity. Lear loses his temper during a love test when
his daughter does not give the answer that he was looking for, he disowns her calling Cordelia his,
sometime daughter, (1.1.119) and gives her share of the land to her sisters. This in turn leads to his
insanity because in his blind rage he does not acknowledge the sincerity behind Cordelia s veiled
words; unlike her sisters she does not try to flatter her father in order to receive more land, whereas
her sisters have their secrets agendas and do not truly love Lear. In addition to this, King Lear is also
enraged when the Earl of Kent who is a loyal follower of Lear, goes against the banishment of
Cordelia and speaks up in favour of the youngest daughter. Lear is livid with Kent going against him
and banishes Kent, as well reminding him that, if on the tenth day

Cycling Advantages
Benefits of Cycling
Although cycling is not the popular choice among people, there is no doubt that it offers more health
benefits than other modes of transportations. An assessment done by the American College Health
Association reported that roughly 53% of students were not engaging in the daily recommended
amount of exercise (Bopp 359). To add to that, something that always comes to mind when thinking
about college and health is the infamous Freshmen 15. In the midst of their busy lives with classes,
friends, and extra curricular activities, many students, particularly freshmen, are unable to find the
time to work out. EZ Bike is a great way to help students incorporate a little more physical activity in
their day while obtaining utility to get to places faster. A university survey shows that roughly one
third of USC students did not even exercise for a minimum of 20 to 30 minutes any day of week (
Healthy). By using a bike to ride around campus, students could easily obtain 20 to 30 minutes of
exercise each day without even having to go to the gym.
It is true that the implementation of a bike share program will not completely solve the problem of
college obesity or the Freshmen 15, but at the least, it can increase levels of physical activity and
promote fitness. By physically having EZ Bike and its stations on USC s campus, it serves as a trigger.

The outdoors, there s something about being outside and the beauty of the forest, glaciers, oceans, and
vast wilderness that draws humanity to it. Could it be getting back to our natural state or just trying to
connect with God s creation? Either way Millions of people travel to National Parks a year: 3 million
traveled to yellowstone alone in 2015 (Visser). But sadly not all of them have favorable trips; in 2007
the National Park Service reported 3,593 search and rescue missions or SAR missions (National
Parks). The average budget for SAR missions is $200,000 and each year that is exceeded. The solution
is charge the bill of the mission to the one in need of being rescued. Now this would not apply in
every case, there are times no matter how hard you prepared or how careful you were trouble still
comes your way. For these missions you won t be billed, but if you go past marked barriers, not
properly equipped, or have been medically prescribed not to do vigouroux exercise then you will be

Puppy Mill Research Paper
Whenever I start to talk about my breeding/showing program, people automatically jump to the
conclusion that I am a puppy miller. To me that is very hurtful and I take it offensively. A puppy mill is
an establishment that breeds puppies to sell, typically on an intensive basis and in conditions regarded
as inhumane. Me, as a breeder, I am there to improve the breed and higher the expectations and the
breed standards, while letting the dogs live a healthy and happy lifestyle. My family, as most people
with the same goals, we only breed once every couple of years. My family and I plan each litter
carefully paying attention to genetics, health clearances, and pedigrees of the dogs being bred. Puppy
millers are the complete opposite. They breed back to back to back litters, where when the bitch, the
female dog, is done with one litter and is breed the next cycle that she has. This not only stresses the
dog out, but takes a toll on the dogs body in the long run. And with the lack of attention that they give

Directly impacting on the social, economic and environmental structures of the Gold Coast.
The rising temperatures of global warming has initiated the melting of ice sheets, contributing to
global sea level rise. Sea levels are expected to rise more than a metre beyond existing stable tidal

Why Is It Important To Get A Scholarship
Bo Bennett once said, A dream becomes a goal when action is taken toward the achievement.
Generally speaking, everyone has dreams that they want to obtain someday, but those will never come
true if they don t do anything. For the most part, there is a variety of goals someone can have. Some
people want to be celebrities, professional athletes, doctors, lawyers, and some people don t know
exactly what they want. I personally want a promising future. Most of my education has been
developing for something better. For example, I went to preschool to be prepared for elementary
school, which prepared me for middle school. In a few years I ll go to high school which will prepare
me for college. Everything I do in school leads up to one thing. That one thing for me is getting a
scholarship to William and Mary. Achieving that goal is something I have aspired for, would make
things easier for my family and I, and would make my future more clear. Getting a scholarship is
something I have aspired for, and having that goal makes me work harder. ... Show more content on

The future is the most uncertain undetermined thing that I can think of. Reasonably, anything can
happen tomorrow. Maybe I ll get in a horrible accident and my brain will never be the same, or maybe
something awful will happen and I won t be able to find a reason to bother with going to college or
planning my future for that matter but the truth is, having this plan makes me feel more prepared.
Think about if no one had a plan. Even the smallest things need to planned out. Goals are plans. When
someone wants something to come true so badly then it s a plan. If I didn t try to achieve my goal then
I would be unsure on where my future would go after high school. Of course just having a goal doesn t
make everything absolute, but it gives you an idea, and that s how everything starts. Although nothing

The Impact Of Technology On The Workforce
The advancement of technology has impacted many areas of life, especially the workforce. Advances
in technology, such as the development of the robot, have started to have a significant impact on the
individual worker. These workers come from many different areas of life, some including
manufacturing, service, and jobs that do not require much education. For example, manufacturing jobs
have been impacted by the robot because the robot is able to perform manufacturing skills at an easier
and faster rate than humans. Jobs that also do not require extensive education will be impacted
because robots will be able to replace these humans since it does not take a lot of expertise to fulfill
these particular jobs. The interaction with robots is also an area addressed in the paper.
Communication with other humans will be affected because people will be dealing with robots more
at your local stores or your local movie theaters. Humans will be associated more with technology and
less with human interaction. In addition to these ideas, the future of workers is addressed in this paper.
Even though there will be a loss of jobs and a declining economy because of the increase in robots
may at first not seem beneficial, it will all work out in the end. The loss of jobs will create more jobs
since robots will be doing their jobs at a faster rate, creating more of a demand for other jobs to
perform their jobs faster. Humans will have to be recruited for these jobs to keep up with the demand

Why School Should Be A Place For Children
It is common knowledge that children s school performance, including scores on standardized tests of
academic achievement, is associated with their family background, particularly race, ethnicity, and

families should not determine what happens to them in school. It is believed that school should be a
place where children should have equal chances to make the most of their potential. While it is said
that education begins in the home; children in upper middle class housings have more opportunity to
learn before the onset of school, while working class parents have fewer resources to provide their
children with a jump start on education. According to online sources, Stratification between schools,
or school level stratification, separates students into facilities with different curricula, standards or
resources. Implicit stratification results from non academic factors, such as the community, poverty, or
tax base. Explicit stratification separates students on purpose, creating specialty schools to cater to
specific skills. Stratification within schools, is known as tracking, streaming or grouping. This way of
schooling separates students into different courses of varying standards. Placement of students in
specific courses is based primarily on perceived academic

Social Impact Of Industrialization In Germany
Mia Allen
HST 102
Paper 1: Industrialization in Germany and its Social Impact
The industrialization of cities, such as Berlin, greatly increased the price of living for the working
class. Because of this, children who were a cheap source of labor, were often times expected to work
daily for meager earnings. This process is exhibited in the engraving titled Orphan Girls and Boys in a
Welfare Institution. The images are set in Germany in 1846 and display orphaned girls working in a
sewing factory and boys working in a textile factory. This depiction of boys and girls speaks volumes
about gender roles when it comes to social standing and job opportunities. In addition, these images
show a very idealized version of child labor and industrialization and argue that children should be a
source of cheap labor to reduce the cost of production and be separated based on sex. Many other
sources such as Dronke s Excerpts from Berlin and The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx and
Friedrich Engels juxtapose this interpretation. The conflicting viewpoints of industrialization and
gender roles will hence be analyzed in relation to the engraving and child labor in Germany in the
1800s.
The industrial revolution began in England in the 1770s and expanded to areas in Prussia and
Bohemia by the 1840s. The scope of industrialization was huge and forever changed the landscape of
modern society by increasing production, national wealth, and technological advancement. However,
it also resulted

It hopes to empower its audiences, help them pursue infinite possibilities and take control of their

dreams are far fetched ideas.
The Hero: The Adventurer, The Magician and The Brave Hero
Being the Adventurer, Sony s PlayStation challenges the audience to break free from the constraints of
daily life, and to bravely explore new grounds to discover new potentials. As the Magician, it gives
them control of the game characters lives and shows them that dreams can come true as long as one
puts their hearts to achieving it. Lastly, the Brave Hero challenges our inner fears of feeling
unaccomplished and encourages us to believe in ourselves. By doing so, everyone can realise their
potential as a winner and learn to take pride in gaining control of our lives.
The Plot: The Ugly Duckling
The PlayStation project faced much difficulty in launching due to the initial collaboration fallout with
Nintendo, and strong opposition from board members and older Sony executives. Many did not
believe in its potential. However, the project team s persistence gave the PlayStation a chance to
succeed and prove its critics wrong. It has the power to change people s lives, transform experiences,
and help them achieve the accomplishment they lacked in real life. This influence is reiterated in their
slogan, Do Not Underestimate The Power of PlayStation. ,

The Significance of the discovery of the Iceman
The Iceman was discovered on the 19th September 1991 by a German couple, Helmut and Erika
Simons, who were hiking near the Austrian and Italian border in the Alps. They both had wandered
slightly off trail when Erika spotted a head and shoulders sticking out of the ice, she first thought it
was a discarded doll, but it was later found out to be an ancient traveler now known as the Iceman.
The Iceman was quickly named Otzi, after the valley Otzhal that was north of his death site. At one
glance, there really wasn t anything that special about Otzi, the significance of him was that he had
become the oldest, most prehistoric and well preserved mummy in the world, not since Tutankhamen
had anything stunned the world this much. After the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also stuffed grass into his boots to keep himself warm. Konrad Spindler was the one who
suggested that theory, he also suggested that the cause of death was a natural disaster, Otzi had laid out
his belongings into separate places, and then he had rested, and never woke ever again. It was
assumed that while he was resting, a sudden storm had come and he had died of hypothermia which is
said to be a painless death, then shortly after his death, the glacier had collapsed on top of him, Otzi
was a victim of the weather (Spindler), which also was the probably the reason why his body and
equipment was still so well preserved, and why it remained untouched throughout the years. Otzi was
assumed to have died in autumn because that was when the shepherds would take their flocks of sheep
up into the Alps, and they had used a microscopic analysis to find out what he had eaten, Otzi s last
meal had consisted of dried wheat, bread, and some meat, what was surprising, was that was also
traces of pollen in the food. The pollen was acted as a Fingerprint for each season (Spindler), because
flowers and plants usually pollinated in autumn. After looking at what Otzi s diet had been, the
scientists looked inside Otzi using X Rays and Cat Scans; they saw that Otzi s ribs were severely
distorted, so Spindler came up with the disaster theory . In which Otzi was believed to be a shepherd
who came back to his village in autumn and somehow got into a quarrel or

Cell Membrane Essay
The normal cell membrane and the structure commonly called a basement membrane differ because:
0.5 points were deducted
Incorrect:
Choice A is correct because the basement membrane is where a cell attaches to the lining , so the
basement membrane will always be outside the normal cell membrane as it is not a part of the actual
enterocyte or keratinocyte cell, just where it attaches to.
7. Which of the following is an example or description of negative feedback? 0.5 points were deducted
Incorrect:
Choice B is correct because the working muscle gets hot and the blood that is being pumped into the
muscles is cooler than the muscles themselves, so blood flow into the working skeletal muscle will
cool the muscle back down.
8. Which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1.5 points were deducted
Correct:
Choice B is incorrect because too much carbohydrates lead to the cause of coliform bacteria to die, not
acidophilic bacteria. Acidophilic bacteria means acid loving bacteria, so the heightened ph would not
kill them, it would make more of them grow. If more of them grow, the LPS that causes inflammation
is not circulating, because they would only circulate if the bacteria dies.
Incorrect:
Choice C is correct because acidosis degrades tight junctions between enterocytes in the colon and the
cecum, which in turn lets more endotoxins from the bacteria into the blood that causes the
inflammation in laminitis.
Choice D is correct because the acidosis kills coliform bacteria, releasing LPS into the system and the
LPS causes the inflammation that in turn reduces blood flow and kills the tissues that cause laminitis.
29. Insulin resistance could increase the likelihood of laminitis because: 1.5 points were deducted
Incorrect:
Choice A is correct because the stress of too much conversion of glucose into triglycerides can cause
insulin resistance. If there are more triglycerides, there is more fat storage within an adipocyte,
causing the animal to gain weight. With more weight, there is more pressure on the structure of the

Consumerism In America
Why the American culture of consumption is destructive to individuals and society.
Consumerism in America has been at an all time high for years now. Consumerism refers to the
consumption of goods and services at an ever increasing rate. It is one of the many things that America
is know for. Our economy is judged by how much people spend, and if it is high then our economy
must be well off (Shukla 1). This ideology is purely materialistic and pushes people towards higher
consumption than is needed. It transforms others into overly materialistic people who cannot
distinguish the difference between wants and needs, and negatively affects those around them
including the environment because of the glorification of material wealth. It is highlighted that in a
year an American consumes 275 pounds of meat, 635 pounds of paper, energy equivalent to 7.8 metric
tons of oil, while 45 years ago, it was once the consumption of 197 pounds of meat, 366 pounds of
paper, and energy equivalent to 5.5 metric tons of oil (Goodwin, et al 1). These numbers have nearly
doubled within 45 years. That is not to mention the fact that there is a car for every two Americans.
Over consumption is very real, and resources are constantly being burned through.
However, consumerism is enjoyed by America, and there are many other countries who wish to
consume as we do. David Masci said, Indeed, more than two thirds of America s $8 trillion economy
is tied to the selling and buying of goods (1003).

World Bank And Ethiopia Case Study
We want you to be clear that the government brought us here... to
die... right here, (an elder interviewed by human rights watch )
The World Bank and IMF were created with the aim of promoting development through financial
assistance and to work on poverty reduction. Since its creation in 1941 the World Bank has loaned and
supported many projects around the world and empowers local communities to support them (Levin
Institute, 2017) . According to the World Bank data, the bank has committed to lend or has given 338
billion dollars between 2004 to 2013 (Chavkin, 2017). However, despite its economic support the
bank is blamed for displacement and death of millions. One investigation on the World Bank funded
projects show that more than 3.4 million people were displaced over the past decade. (NPR, 2015) .
One of the World Bank supported project that forced 70,000 indigenous people was the forced
villagization in Gambella, Ethiopia (Human Rights Watch, 2012). The government called the eviction
the Commune Center Development Plan and Livelihood Strategy and asserted that it planed the
program in order to bring the scattered rural population together with the aim of providing them health
centers and other public services closer to the area (Epstein, 2013). However, it was found out that the
government relocated the population in order to give their fertile land to foreign investors (ibid).
Ethiopia, which an ally of the west and enjoys strong support from the World Bank and foreign donors
for its role in Africa and the UN. the World Bank has spent more than 1.5 billion dollar between 2006
to 2013 on a program known as Protection of Basic Services (PBS) to finance the salaries of health
workers, school teachers and other public service employees (Chavkin, 2017). According investigation
made by the International Consortium of investigative journalism and Human Rights Watch, the
Ethiopian government financed the forced relocation by diverting from 2 billion dollar funding of that
the World Bank PBS program
The consequence of the relocation was forcefully taking the people ancestor land, intimidation,
imprisonment and killing of those who opposed to be relocated, lack of public services at

  • 3. Unity of a Family Explored in The Grapes of Wrath Essay Unity of a Family Explored in The Grapes of Wrath One would say that on a literal level The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck is about the Joad family s journey to California during The Dust Bowl. However, it is also about the unity of a family and the concept of birth and death, both literal and abstract. Along with this, the idea of a family unit is explored through these births and deaths. As can be seen in The Grapes of Wrath, the Joads are a very tight knit family. Yet on their trip to California, they experience many losses and additions to their family. In general, Steinbeck s novel abides by the circle of life. When a birth occurs, a death follows, and when a death occurs, a birth follows. However, in The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Chapter Thirteen, Grampa does die, as he was never truly the same once he left his land. This is because the land goes back to Grampa s ancestry, and losing the land is like losing a family member. This is the Joad family s first run in with death on their journey, yet Ma Joad still manages to keep the family together. Moreover, in Chapter Thirteen, as the Joad family continues on their journey, they meet the Wilson family. The two families decide to carry on with their trip together. It is at this point that Steinbeck follows the pattern of the circle of life. Steinbeck begins by writing about the rebirth of Tom Joad. Next, Grampa dies. Following this, there is a birth for the Joads when they add the Wilson family to their own. However, as previously stated, in order to represent the hardships of the journey, many more deaths than births occur in the novel. In Chapter Eighteen alone, Noah leaves the family, the Joads continue on without the Wilson family, and Granma dies. It may seem like these losses would tear the family apart, but Ma Joad understands the concept of family, and tries her hardest to keep the family as one unit. For example, Ma Joad sits up all night with Granma s dead body, jut so the family can cross the border. The fambly hadda get acrost (312). Furthermore, by the time Chapter Nineteen ends, the Joads lost their land, their dog, Grampa, Noah, Granma, and the Wilsons. In Chapter

Each stressor whether in the form of a major life experiences, traumatic events, work, school, and even exercise can be stressful. Stress of any amount makes an impact on a persons health and behaviors. Therefore, it is important to take notice of how you manage stressful events in your life however great or small an effect. Though everyone experiences stress in one way or another, no two people cope with stress in the same manner. Needless to say, the report doesn t exactly prove all elements of the said theory to be true. How we coping with stressors aren t limited to a biological perspective, where the genetic makeup can alter how people respond to traumatic events, but it extends to a host of external factors such as family, friends, employment, time, and money. (Straub, 2014, pg.157). Stressors are ever present and no one can escape them but, the more resources you have, the more effective you are in coping with such events. All of the external elements contribute to the socioeconomic status and it is one of the more significant factors that affects health. I revisit the idea of psychological, behavioral, social, and biological factors in response to health and stressful events. The influence that stress has on the totality of our being is pretty impressive. Insomuch as in a younger individual, acute stress can potentially become adaptive and may not inflict ... Similarities Between The Parthenon And The Carnegie Library The historical qualities of certain art and architecture creates an opportunity for communities to connect with the past in order to improve the character of a community. One such improvement that took place right here in Bozeman, MT was the building of The Carnegie Library in the early nineteen hundreds. With the creation of this library, the builders not only set out to improve the educational qualities of Bozeman s downtown, but it sought to create a hub for historical qualities in Bozeman, as well as around the world. This historical connection lead the builders all the way to the height of the Greek Empire. This library was funded by steel industry tycoon Andrew Carnegie, who had money given to towns across the country with the goal of achieving better education across the United States. The building elements of the design of this building were done for the purpose of constructing an environment that attests to this goal. The primary builder decided to design her building with a connection to architecture during the Greek Empire. One building that our group saw particular similarities to was the Parthenon in Athens, Greece. The connection between the Parthenon and Carnegie Library contextually was done for the purpose of adding in historical qualities to downtown Bozeman. The connection to the respected empire of Greece shows that the library is educated on some of the life in ancient Greece, especially pertaining towards the art and architectural style of the period, and also serves as a sort of a preview to the wealth of information that lies inside of the building. Another contextual element that draws these two buildings is the purpose of their construction. The Parthenon was erected in Athens as a way to honor their patron deity Athena, as well as housing many important artifacts that served as symbols of Athens victories over the Persians. The designer of The Carnegie Library used these qualities to try and build the library to resemble a temple. This design choice shows where the designers intended the library to serve as a place to worship knowledge, rather than the conventional religion or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mean, Median, Mode, Range, Variance, Standard Deviation, Z score, Significance Level, Confidence Interval, Between sum of squares, Within sum of squares, Correlation coefficient. Understanding Statistics and Research Design Statistical analysis is a critical element to the research process. Understanding the functions of the varying mathematical representations of collected empirical data is a fundamental step in the research design process (Creswell, 2009). The intent of this paper is to explain the fundamental language of statistics, and how each one is used to draw solid conclusions to research hypotheses. Measures of Central Tendency One of the immediate steps in the research process after collecting the data is to determine a mathematical average, or central tendency (Salkind, 2010). Central tendencies are used to represent a typical variable for a given data set. There are three forms of central tendencies that concern statistical analysis and research: mean, median, and mode (Martin Bridgmon, 2012). Comparing O Brien s The Things They Carried and Ninh s The Sorrow of War Bao Ninh s The Sorrow of War is a contrapuntal reading to American literature on the Vietnam War. But rather than stand in stark contrast to Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried, The Sorrow of War is strangely similar, yet different at the same time. From a post colonialist standpoint, one must take in account both works to get an accurate image of the war. The Sorrow of War is an excellent counterpoint because it is truthful. Tim O Brien writes: . . . you can tell a true war story by its absolute and uncompromising allegiance to obscenity and evil. (O Brien, 42) Bao Ninh succeeds in this respect. And it was for this reason that the Vietnamese ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not only were American soldiers well muscled and athletes, (191) but some of them were black. Whites were not particularly strange, as Vietnam had been under French rule, but blacks must have been something of a frightening, unfamiliar novelty. This too is reflected in the text. When Kien and Hoa encounter an American platoon in the jungle, the blacks in the platoon are the first thing Kien describes, after describing what was not a man, but a tracker dog as big as a calf. (189) And when the soldiers smoke rosa canina, one of the things they hallucinate is groups of headless black American soldiers right along with hallucinations about fantastic creatures and extinct animal species. With these counterpoints to the American views of Vietnamese soldiers, an American certainly gets a different picture of the war. Bao Ninh s portrayal of postwar Vietnam also fosters a more objective viewpoint of the war. After the war, the Americans took their twisted memories back home, to an unscathed country where nearly everyone had something to go back to. For North Vietnamese soldiers, home was where the horror had been, and in many ways still was. He is plain in his message: The recent years of war had brought enough suffering and pain to last them a thousand years. • 11. Industrial relations ideologies Introduction A frame of reference is not a philosophical concept. It refers to one s worldview and the evaluation or judgement of one s observations. One s frame of reference coincides with one s behaviour and the consequences thereof. Therefore, a frame of reference is fixed but one needs to be sensitive and accept individual differences in frames of reference. This paper aims to address the frame of reference of Pick n Pay s chairman and joint managing director, Mr Raymond Ackerman. The arguments presented in this paper are my own with a theoretical basis from the work of Bluen (1987). My interpretation of Mr Ackerman s frame of reference will be presented in relation to the organisation, conflict, collective bargaining and trade ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This reiterates the notion of balance of power. Collective bargaining The ability for positions to reach a consensus is reached through collective bargaining. Bluen (1987) infers that the pluralist frame of reference does not seek to remove conflict but to manage it. Mr Ackerman acknowledged the existence of conflict and tried to manage it by sending his negotiating team to resolve the conflict and end the strike. Mr Ackerman has a pluralist view because he believes the issue should have been resolved during negotiations. He even went as far as awarding greater bargaining flexibility to the negotiating team. The mere fact that Mr Ackerman was so determined to resolve the conflict though means of collective bargaining should eliminate the likelihood of a unitary frame of reference. Collective bargaining, an equitable balance of power, and essentially the aim to compromise confirm that Mr Ackerman holds a pluralist view on industrial relations. Mr Ackerman fought to reach a consensus for personal and economic reasons. The breakthrough to reach a consensus was achieved after he delivered his speech. He appealed to the opposing union members by focusing on personal matters. This led to the agreement of a negotiation. Mr Ackerman considered going up on his agreement and the union considered going down on theirs. No suppression or unilateral decision making occurred. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In response to this challenge, teamwork has been implemented in diverse projects in different countries over the last few years, taking a range of forms in theory and practice (Frobel Marchington, 2005). • 14. Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System Living in the United States as an international student, one of the notable things for me was the remarkable number of obese people or I d rather say people above average weight. Counted among the people above average weight back home, I was surprised when people considered me slim here. I came to a conclusion that the concept of relativity is to blame for this. This thing clearly suggests the growing problem of obesity in the United States which I have been able to observe first handedly for quite a long time now. Not only my personal observation and experience, but even the statistics show that the problem of obesity in the United States is at an alarming state. Among the respondents in Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) conducted by CDC, 28.1% were obese. State specific obesity ranged from 20.5% in Colorado to 34.7% in Louisiana. While some people might blame their genes for obesity, I believe that lifestyle is the main cause of obesity. With the advancement of technology, people have become far too sophisticated, mainly in the developed country. And that counts for the fact that obesity is prevalent mostly among the developed countries including the United States of course. For instance, most of the families including mine in Nepal do not own a washing machine. So, the effort that people put on washing their own clothes instead of just throwing them into a machine and pushing a button actually helps to burn some calories. Also, everyone does not ... Apple Pay is a mobile payments service and digital wallet application that utilizes Near Field Communication (NFC) to initiate secure payment transactions between contactless payment terminals and devices like the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch (Webopedia). Apple Pay allows owners of Apple devices the opportunity to add multiple credit or debit cards onto that device and instantly pay at a location by simply placing their device over the scanner. This technology could be implemented into Howard University s Bison One Card by adding Dining Dollars or Bison Bucks into the application software, thus eliminating the need to always swipe your card at various locations around campus. This would also eliminate the struggle some students encounter of not being able to eat or swipe into the café because they have lost or misplaced their card. The biggest problem Howard University faces with implementing this new technology is the substantial cost. Blue Pay breaks down the Apple Pay implementation costs with prices of the NFC terminals in range from $300 to $500, excluding the cost of additional software upgrades if needed. Depending on which locations, if not all, across campus will support this technology, this cost will surely add up. Merchants must also weigh in the cost of employee training. Employees must understand how to properly use NFC contactless readers to process payments. The training should also include refunds, chargebacks, and cancellations. This cost can vary, depending on the size of the staff. Blue Pay ultimately estimates the total cost ranging anywhere from $1000 to $2000 per unit after factoring in hardware, software and wages (Blue ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Summary Of Crito By Plato In Crito by Plato, Socrates faces a difficult dilemma. Socrates has been wrongfully charged of impiety and corrupting the children and is approached with an offer from his close friend Crito who says he will help Socrates escape and give him a nice place to live away from Athens where he can flee from a wrongful execution. Socrates should stay in prison and face his execution in order to prove he is innocent. Socrates wants to do no wrong at all and comes to the conclusion that escaping would do more harm than facing a wrongful execution. He feels that escaping would be wronging those who wronged him which is still doing wrong. The laws have not wronged Socrates but the people of Athens have. These laws helped him grow into the man he is and he feels he would be doing a disservice to them by going against what he swore to stay true to. When Crito tells Socrates that people will see him as a bad friend Socrates replies, But why, my dear Crito, should we care about the opinion of the many? Good men, and they are the only persons who are worth considering, will think of these things truly as they happened . Basically, Socrates is explaining that what people think is irrelevant and that good men will understand Socrates decision and will not think poorly of Crito as they will see things as they truly happened. If Socrates were to leave he would be breaking his agreement to obey the laws. Socrates swore an oath to accept the verdict and penalty and if he left now he would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

And why would I do anything for you? Herobrine bowed, staying on one knee and lowering his head. I have journeyed very far to find you, to release you from your prison. Help me to destroy the one known as Steve and the End will be your throne room, Overworld, your kingdom. No one is a match for you, and no one will imprison you away again. For a long moment the dragon was silent, staring down at the tiny adventurer. There was a deep pull of breath from the beast before it spoke. I accept...return now to your world. You have found your ally Herobrine. The dragon raised its massive head and suddenly Herobrine was gone. He had done it. It had taken months of preparation and trials, even the help of the very first adventurer of Overworld, but Herobrine had found an ally so powerful that Steve stood no chance in the end. It was done, and now all that was left, was for Herobrine to wait. Overworld was quiet that night, the white eyed adventurer took in the sight of his world one more time before he turned and walked into a deep cave system. Come and find us Steve, we, will ... • 19. Separate But Equal Doctrine Brianna Ellis Mrs. Holt M/J Law Studies 8 October 2017 African Americans were granted full citizenship, by the Fourteenth Amendment, in the year of 1868; segregation did not end until almost a hundred years later, in 1964. The separate but equal doctrine allowed segregation as long as blacks and whites had equal facilities. During the time of separate but equal many debated whether this doctrine was constitutional or not. The monumental Supreme Court cases Plessy vs Ferguson and Brown vs Board of Education shaped America s society by deciding the constitutionality of the separate but equal doctrine. In the year of 1896, the Supreme Court case Plessy vs Ferguson shaped America s society by concluding that the separate but equal doctrine was constitutional. This all began when Homer Plessy, who was one eighth black, sat in the white designated train car. He was arrested because he was in violation of the 1890 Separate Car Act, which declared that all rail companies must implement separate but equal accommodations for white and black passengers. Plessy contended in court that the Act infringed upon the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Amendments. After two unsuccessful attempts in lower courts, he took his case to the Supreme Court, which upheld the earlier rulings that segregation is constitutional under the separate but equal doctrine. The Supreme Court decision for Plessy vs Ferguson ruled in favor of Ferguson, 7 1. The majority found that the separate but equal doctrine did not violate the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Amendment, while the minority found the complete opposite. The majority identified the purpose of the Fourteenth Amendment as enforce[ing] the absolute equality of the two races before the law, but then asserted that it could not have been intended to abolish distinctions based upon color, or to enforce social...equality , Landmark Cases of the U.S. Supreme Court. Beth Fennelly writes poetry and short stories while her husband Tom read sections of longer fiction pieces. The two even combined to write a novel that they shared a bit of! Beth started the readings off alone, reading a few of her poems and short stories. The first poem that she read was a love poem of sort. It was the story of what would have been if she had met her husband at an earlier time. Beth is from Chicago, but the story takes place in Tom s home state of Alabama. I loved the alliteration in a few of the lines. Dumb as dalmatians and plaid pajamas (although out of context), sounded smooth rolling off the tongue of the speaker. The poem was a great selection for the reading because it showed the deep bond that the two share. Beth read several stories that were extremely short. Even shorter than William Carlos Williams Red Wheelbarrow. The stories were less than four lines, some as short as one or two lines. Although short, the stories were able to convey a lot of emotion. (NAKELL, 1978) The death penalty is much more expensive than life imprisonment without parole. Capital trails are longer and more expensive at every step than other murder trials. Capital cases tend to last several years and can consist of pretrial motions, expert witness investigations, jury selection, and the necessity for two trials; one on guilt and the other on sentencing. Once an individual is sentenced to death, the case automatically gets appealed to the state, then to the Court of Appeals and finally to the Supreme Court. Guilty pleas in capital punishment cases are almost unheard of, plus many of these trials result in life sentences anyway, so the state in which the trial is held ends up paying for the costs of the capital case. The extreme costs of capital punishment are actually making America less safe because financial and legal resources are being diverted from effective crime fighting. When a prosecutor decides to pursue a capital case they go to extensive and costly means, this may include the use of forensics, psychology, technology, and witnesses. The states (tax payers) also suffer; security precautions imposed by the death sentence must be paid. Her father was a prominent member of the party responsible for the Somalian Revolution, however autonomy was a constant struggle in the early life of Ayaan Hirsi Ali. As a child, she was subjected to Female Genital Mutilation. As a young adult, her family tried to force her into an arranged marriage with her cousin. The compilation of these circumstances is what led to her career in civil rights for women in the Muslim world. One passage Ayaan Hirsi Ali s film Submission focuses on, is the menstruation of women: It is harm, so keep away from wives during menstruation. And do not approach them until they are pure. In Shakespeare s King Lear there are many character who seem like they are going mad, and an example of such a character is King Lear. King Lear succumbs to anger, rash decisions, and grief driving him to insanity, thus leading to the destruction of the kingdom. King Lear is a character who displays a great deal of anger throughout the course of the play, he often allows his anger to take over him. A lot of things that are said and during the course of the play are due to Lear s anger which is a leading factor for his insanity. Lear loses his temper during a love test when his daughter does not give the answer that he was looking for, he disowns her calling Cordelia his, sometime daughter, (1.1.119) and gives her share of the land to her sisters. This in turn leads to his insanity because in his blind rage he does not acknowledge the sincerity behind Cordelia s veiled words; unlike her sisters she does not try to flatter her father in order to receive more land, whereas her sisters have their secrets agendas and do not truly love Lear. In addition to this, King Lear is also enraged when the Earl of Kent who is a loyal follower of Lear, goes against the banishment of Cordelia and speaks up in favour of the youngest daughter. An assessment done by the American College Health Association reported that roughly 53% of students were not engaging in the daily recommended amount of exercise (Bopp 359). To add to that, something that always comes to mind when thinking about college and health is the infamous Freshmen 15. In the midst of their busy lives with classes, friends, and extra curricular activities, many students, particularly freshmen, are unable to find the time to work out. EZ Bike is a great way to help students incorporate a little more physical activity in their day while obtaining utility to get to places faster. A university survey shows that roughly one third of USC students did not even exercise for a minimum of 20 to 30 minutes any day of week ( Healthy). By using a bike to ride around campus, students could easily obtain 20 to 30 minutes of exercise each day without even having to go to the gym. It is true that the implementation of a bike share program will not completely solve the problem of college obesity or the Freshmen 15, but at the least, it can increase levels of physical activity and promote fitness. Generally speaking, everyone has dreams that they want to obtain someday, but those will never come true if they don t do anything. For the most part, there is a variety of goals someone can have. Some people want to be celebrities, professional athletes, doctors, lawyers, and some people don t know exactly what they want. I personally want a promising future. Most of my education has been developing for something better. For example, I went to preschool to be prepared for elementary school, which prepared me for middle school. In a few years I ll go to high school which will prepare me for college. Everything I do in school leads up to one thing. That one thing for me is getting a scholarship to William and Mary. Achieving that goal is something I have aspired for, would make things easier for my family and I, and would make my future more clear. Getting a scholarship is something I have aspired for, and having that goal makes me work harder. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The future is the most uncertain undetermined thing that I can think of. Reasonably, anything can happen tomorrow. Maybe I ll get in a horrible accident and my brain will never be the same, or maybe something awful will happen and I won t be able to find a reason to bother with going to college or planning my future for that matter but the truth is, having this plan makes me feel more prepared. Think about if no one had a plan. Even the smallest things need to planned out. Goals are plans. When someone wants something to come true so badly then it s a plan. If I didn t try to achieve my goal then I would be unsure on where my future would go after high school. Of course just having a goal doesn t make everything absolute, but it gives you an idea, and that s how everything starts. Although nothing is certain in anyone s future, having a goal can never hurt ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Impact Of Technology On The Workforce The advancement of technology has impacted many areas of life, especially the workforce. Advances in technology, such as the development of the robot, have started to have a significant impact on the individual worker. These workers come from many different areas of life, some including manufacturing, service, and jobs that do not require much education. For example, manufacturing jobs have been impacted by the robot because the robot is able to perform manufacturing skills at an easier and faster rate than humans. Jobs that also do not require extensive education will be impacted because robots will be able to replace these humans since it does not take a lot of expertise to fulfill these particular jobs. The interaction with robots is also an area addressed in the paper. Communication with other humans will be affected because people will be dealing with robots more at your local stores or your local movie theaters. Humans will be associated more with technology and less with human interaction. In addition to these ideas, the future of workers is addressed in this paper. Even though there will be a loss of jobs and a declining economy because of the increase in robots may at first not seem beneficial, it will all work out in the end. The loss of jobs will create more jobs since robots will be doing their jobs at a faster rate, creating more of a demand for other jobs to perform their jobs faster. Humans will have to be recruited for these jobs to keep up with the demand of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Why School Should Be A Place For Children It is common knowledge that children s school performance, including scores on standardized tests of academic achievement, is associated with their family background, particularly race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status. Most Americans believe that schools are places where social inequalities should be equalized, where the advantages or disadvantages that children experience in their homes and families should not determine what happens to them in school. It is believed that school should be a place where children should have equal chances to make the most of their potential. While it is said that education begins in the home; children in upper middle class housings have more opportunity to learn before the onset of school, while working class parents have fewer resources to provide their children with a jump start on education. According to online sources, Stratification between schools, or school level stratification, separates students into facilities with different curricula, standards or resources. Implicit stratification results from non academic factors, such as the community, poverty, or tax base. Explicit stratification separates students on purpose, creating specialty schools to cater to specific skills. Stratification within schools, is known as tracking, streaming or grouping. This way of schooling separates students into different courses of varying standards. Placement of students in specific courses is based primarily on perceived academic ... • 46. Social Impact Of Industrialization In Germany Mia Allen HST 102 Paper 1: Industrialization in Germany and its Social Impact The industrialization of cities, such as Berlin, greatly increased the price of living for the working class. Because of this, children who were a cheap source of labor, were often times expected to work daily for meager earnings. This process is exhibited in the engraving titled Orphan Girls and Boys in a Welfare Institution. The images are set in Germany in 1846 and display orphaned girls working in a sewing factory and boys working in a textile factory. This depiction of boys and girls speaks volumes about gender roles when it comes to social standing and job opportunities. In addition, these images show a very idealized version of child labor and industrialization and argue that children should be a source of cheap labor to reduce the cost of production and be separated based on sex. Many other sources such as Dronke s Excerpts from Berlin and The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels juxtapose this interpretation. The conflicting viewpoints of industrialization and gender roles will hence be analyzed in relation to the engraving and child labor in Germany in the 1800s. The industrial revolution began in England in the 1770s and expanded to areas in Prussia and Bohemia by the 1840s. The scope of industrialization was huge and forever changed the landscape of modern society by increasing production, national wealth, and technological advancement. However, it also resulted ... • 48. The Significance of the discovery of the Iceman The Iceman was discovered on the 19th September 1991 by a German couple, Helmut and Erika Simons, who were hiking near the Austrian and Italian border in the Alps. They both had wandered slightly off trail when Erika spotted a head and shoulders sticking out of the ice, she first thought it was a discarded doll, but it was later found out to be an ancient traveler now known as the Iceman. The Iceman was quickly named Otzi, after the valley Otzhal that was north of his death site. At one glance, there really wasn t anything that special about Otzi, the significance of him was that he had become the oldest, most prehistoric and well preserved mummy in the world, not since Tutankhamen had anything stunned the world this much. Konrad Spindler was the one who suggested that theory, he also suggested that the cause of death was a natural disaster, Otzi had laid out his belongings into separate places, and then he had rested, and never woke ever again. It was assumed that while he was resting, a sudden storm had come and he had died of hypothermia which is said to be a painless death, then shortly after his death, the glacier had collapsed on top of him, Otzi was a victim of the weather (Spindler), which also was the probably the reason why his body and equipment was still so well preserved, and why it remained untouched throughout the years. Otzi was assumed to have died in autumn because that was when the shepherds would take their flocks of sheep up into the Alps, and they had used a microscopic analysis to find out what he had eaten, Otzi s last meal had consisted of dried wheat, bread, and some meat, what was surprising, was that was also traces of pollen in the food. The pollen was acted as a Fingerprint for each season (Spindler), because flowers and plants usually pollinated in autumn. After looking at what Otzi s diet had been, the scientists looked inside Otzi using X Rays and Cat Scans; they saw that Otzi s ribs were severely distorted, so Spindler came up with the disaster theory . Which of the following is an example or description of negative feedback? 0.5 points were deducted Incorrect: Choice B is correct because the working muscle gets hot and the blood that is being pumped into the muscles is cooler than the muscles themselves, so blood flow into the working skeletal muscle will cool the muscle back down. 8. Acidophilic bacteria means acid loving bacteria, so the heightened ph would not kill them, it would make more of them grow. If more of them grow, the LPS that causes inflammation is not circulating, because they would only circulate if the bacteria dies. Incorrect: Choice C is correct because acidosis degrades tight junctions between enterocytes in the colon and the cecum, which in turn lets more endotoxins from the bacteria into the blood that causes the inflammation in laminitis. Choice D is correct because the acidosis kills coliform bacteria, releasing LPS into the system and the LPS causes the inflammation that in turn reduces blood flow and kills the tissues that cause laminitis. 29. Insulin resistance could increase the likelihood of laminitis because: 1.5 points were deducted Incorrect: Choice A is correct because the stress of too much conversion of glucose into triglycerides can cause insulin resistance. • 50. Consumerism In America Why the American culture of consumption is destructive to individuals and society. Consumerism in America has been at an all time high for years now. Consumerism refers to the consumption of goods and services at an ever increasing rate. It is one of the many things that America is know for. Our economy is judged by how much people spend, and if it is high then our economy must be well off (Shukla 1). This ideology is purely materialistic and pushes people towards higher consumption than is needed. It transforms others into overly materialistic people who cannot distinguish the difference between wants and needs, and negatively affects those around them including the environment because of the glorification of material wealth. It is highlighted that in a year an American consumes 275 pounds of meat, 635 pounds of paper, energy equivalent to 7.8 metric tons of oil, while 45 years ago, it was once the consumption of 197 pounds of meat, 366 pounds of paper, and energy equivalent to 5.5 metric tons of oil (Goodwin, et al 1). These numbers have nearly doubled within 45 years. That is not to mention the fact that there is a car for every two Americans. Over consumption is very real, and resources are constantly being burned through. However, consumerism is enjoyed by America, and there are many other countries who wish to consume as we do. David Masci said, Indeed, more than two thirds of America s $8 trillion economy is tied to the selling and buying of goods (1003). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
