In the reading, McTeague, by Frank Norris, a dentist named McTeague watches the day to day
lives of San Francisco s various laborers through the bay window of his Dental Parlor. McTeague
noticed that the street was always occupied by people with different kinds of people at specific
times of the day. Since San Francisco is described as full of energy because of the people in it, it is
inferred that the city has a personal, tied connection to its inhabitants. Frank Norrisportrayed the city
as full of liveliness and excitement to showcase how San Francisco itself is its own main character
with humanlike characteristics, ultimately suggesting that capitalism makes a city thrive. First
and foremost, the chronological timed schedule in which the people of San Francisco rely on is
shown as a continuous cycle that keeps the city up and running. The narrator states, A little later,
following in the path of the day laborers, came the clerks and shopgirls [...] always in a hurry,
glancing apprehensively at the powerhouse clock. (155) Not only does this quote show that the
city is a busy area where countless things are happening, but also shows how it runs on a clock

Destiny hook
From birth, Oedipus, the Tragic Hero of Sophocles play Oedipus Rex has been destined to kill his
father and marry his mother. Although by the opening act of the play, Oedipus has already earned
the throne of Thebes for solving the riddle of the sphinx, the greek hero is unaware that he has
already fulfilled the prophy. Meanwhile, the people of Thebes are dying of a plague that will only
end when the murderer of Laius, the previous Theban King, is punished. Through retrospection,
Oedipus believes that he might be responsible for Laius death and is told that the King and
Queen of Corinth who raised him were not his biological parents. In this passage, Jocasta, having
already discovered the truth that she is both Oedipus mother and wife, warns Oedipus to go no
further in his path for self knowledge. But Oedipus ignores her warning and calls for the Shepherd,
to learn more about his mysterious lineage. This passage suggests that Oedipus downfall is not the
product of fate but of his own free will. Sophocles employs characterization, word choice, and
irony to reveal how free will has led to tragedy.
To start, Sophocles uses characterization to reveal the role that free will has played in Oedipus
destiny. After the chorus leader ominously warns Oedipus about what he might uncover about
his birth, Sophocles dialog for Oedipus states Let it burst! Whatever will, whatever must! (19).
Although words such as will and must are typically indicators of fate, the passive verbiage in
this clause are indicative of Oedipus stance on his involvement with his own tragedy. Oedipus
sees himself as allowing events to play out in their nature order or as fated. However, Sophocles
presentation of Oedipus as a character reveals that he is the driving force of his tragic discovery
after sending for the Shepherd and ignoring the warnings of both Jocasta and the chorus.
Furthermore, as Sophocles dialog continues, Oedipus reveals, I will never see myself disgraced
(26). Oedipus pride in himself regardless of the class he was born into has led to him ignore
Jocasta s warning believing that she will be dismissive of him if he was born into low social
standing. This pride has also fueled Oedipus determination to

Law students and Lawyers are trained to be insensitive for a number of reasons. For starters the
environment the law student, or lawyer, experiences either in law school or in their ideal practice,
warrants competition. With competition comes aggression and hostility. In an environment like
that, insensitivity is second nature. At that point, insensitivity becomes an innate ability that you
will carry with you throughout the rest of your law school experience and so forth. The latter is
rooted in the idea of the Socratic method, the I ask a question, you answer, and I attack the validity
of your entire response ordeal, which most schools have adopted into their institutions. The latter is
displayed in the movie by Kingsfield as he addressed his class in the beginning and told them that
he would be using the Socratic method throughout the course of the semester. By using this method,
it improves the reaction time, the analytic response, and improves the targeted party s critical
thinking ability regarding hypotheticals. Not only that, it prepares the law student, and lawyer,
mentally and emotionally for the adversarial process. According to The Princeton Review (2017),

Introduction According to Medicine.net (2012), genetic transformation is a process by which the
genetic material carried by an individual cell is altered by the incorporation of foreign/exogenous
DNA into its genome. Competent cells are able to accept DNA presented by experimental influence
or manipulation, and the application of genetic engineering with bacteria can aid in the fight against
diseases, allowing individuals to maintain their lifestyles without the threat of certain illnesses like
heart disease, cancer or hereditary disorders (McPhersson 2008). Plasmid DNA are small circular
double stranded helixes, and present in the plasmid are ampr (selectable marker gene) and GFP
(Green Florescent Protein), (BIO RAD 2010).

The bacteria that was used in the experiment was Escherichia coli, it is one of the most commonly
used organisms for gene transfer, and most E. coli are non pathogenic. A non pathogenic strain was

takes place in a time period of a post war HiroshimaJapan, and the setting, as well as the time
period, plays a major part in this film, by showing the audience views a war torn country as it
