Both stories are set in a sort of futuristic setting, one with in a theme park and one in a virtual reality
store yet both deal with the everyday life of both narrators. There is a constant sense of loathing and
self despair by the narrators in both stories. In Offloading , the narrator works a dreary dead end job at

I recently read and analyzed a speech given by Nancy Reagan entitled Just Say No . In the late 1980s,
around the time that Nancy Reagan gave her speech the U.S was facing a major drug problem. During
that time a new drug, cocaine, was recently introduced. Because this new drug was cheap and
addictive, youth drug addictions became a major problem. As a result of the drug problems many
people spoke out against it, one of these individuals was Nancy Reagan in her Just Say No Speech
(Decades of Drug Use: The 80s and 90s, 2002). After analyzing he r speech I feel it was successfully
persuasive. In the speech Nancy Reagan described how bad drugs can be, she described how the
citizens of the United States can work together to solve this problem, and finally she described what

THE NARRATIVE RESEARCH METHOD
The use of narrative research in IS has been limited although there have been some recent publications
(Alvarez amp; Urla, 2002; Davidson, 1997; Dube amp; Robey, 1999, Hirschheim amp; Newman,
1991). Table 2 lists some of these studies. However, the clear understanding of how to conduct,
interpret and describe narrative research in the context of information systems does not exist and is

was. The more we worried about the strength of the bridge, the less time we had. We started off with
the idea to have a truss bridge made of wood and cardboard. As shown here, (show picture from

snapped. The bridge broke more to the left side close to the platform. As you can see in this picture (
point out picture on poster) The bridge broke because of its lack of popsicle sticks supporting it. The
cardboard alone was not strong enough. If we were to use a material like wood, the bridge could have
withheld more weight.

Overall, these two articles put into perspective the validity of birth order but also the general
development of personalities and achievement goals within children. These two perspectives are
helpful in depicting some uprising issues with both theories and will give us a holistic view on the

The first article communicates that birth order has an effect on personality and achievement. One of

Alfred Hermann, a German Egyptologist, is credited with writing the earliest overview on the topic of
interpreting. In this work, published in 1956, Hermann gives an overview of the history of
interpreting.
Hermann s work begins with the ancient Egyptians, who believed that they were superior to all other
races, referring to themselves alone as humans and to all others as barbarians. Ancient Egyptian
inscriptions never depict the literal words of these so called barbaric foreigners. The foreigners are
