Differences And Conflicts Between The Colonists And Native...
The British had just found out about the new world (United States of America) is up for grabs, but
there is something in their way (Native Americans). The queen had died less than four years ago and
the first settlers had just arrived in the the new world, and conflict with the natives has begun. Who s
side are you on? I m on the natives the native americans were not hostile yet very welcoming to the
colonists but the colonists did not return the favor. The colonists used the natives things, took, and
wiped out several native tribes. They also were harsh towards the natives. The settlers were also very
disrespectful towards the natives. The settlers stole, killed, and used the natives things whenever they
wanted. The colonists killed

He achieved the rescue with a very smart plan and they continue their adventure. Another heroic
action that Bilbo made was when all the dwarves were captured by the Spiders in Mirkwood. He
searched and rescued them. In both occasions he risked his life because he didn´t want to lose his
friends and he couldn’t permit the quest to end like that. The last heroic action that he made was
when he went to the humans’ and elves’ camp to give them the Arkestone, a very important
gem for the dwarves, to permit them deal the peace. He risked his life and betrayed Thorin’s trust
to try to avoid the war between them. Bilbo’s purpose always was for the benefit of everyone and
not for his own benefit, and this, he acted like a most valuable hero. In fact, Bilbo Baggins was one of
the most important heroes of the novel because he sacrificed his life for his friend’s life. He was
very smart and always solved the dwarves’ problems. He never put himself before the welfare of
the others and always had a leader’s attitude. Bilbo Baggins was a hero because he met with the
principal requirements that a hero needed for being recognized. Bibliography: “Hero.”

The Interpretation Of Tempo, Dynamics And Expression...
The interpretation of Tempo, Dynamics and Expression through Instrumentation in three recordings of
Vittorio Monti s Czardas
Vittorio Monti s famous virtuosic piece Czardas has been arranged for many instruments over the
years. Being a percussionist and having played this piece I was interested in how this piece would
vary in terms of tempo, dynamics and expression due to instrumentation. I chose to compare three
recordings: one by violinist Frank Kim accompanied by piano as this represents the piece as it was
originally written for piano and violin. Frank Kim performs it with a lot of expression and extremes of
dynamic and tempo more typical of the romantic period; The Horseholm Percussion and Marimba
Ensemble which used similar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Italian composer Vittorio Monti was born in 1868 in Naples. He attended the Conservatoire of
San Pietro a Majella where he studied composition and violin, as well as playing mandolin. When he
was in his thirty s he was asked to conduct in Paris for the Lamourex Orchestra, during this period
Monti composed a number of operas and ballets such as Noel de Pierrot. In 1904 he wrote what is
probably his most famous piece, Czardas, which he based on the Hungarian folk dance called Csardas.
Although originally composed for solo violin and piano there have been many arrangements for
numerous instruments over the years. Czardas or Hungarian Czardas is a national dance of Hungary
for couples; it is written in simple time and involves forceful syncopated rhythms. The dance starts off
with a slow section called the Lassu and is followed by a fast section called the Friss.
Monti begins his piece at a slow, broad speed marked largo this represents the lassu from the dance. In
the violin (Monti, 2015) recording the notes are very legato and there is a lot of vibrato to add extra
expression, colour and phrasing to the music. In Cambridge Companion to the violin it states that
vibrato was used...as an expressive ornament (Stowell, 1992) and used mainly for long notes at the
end of a phrase. Spohr states that there are three types of vibrato: slow for sustained passionate
melodies; accelerating for

Allusions In The Chronicles Of Narnia
One Christian man who utilized and clearly enjoyed literature both of fiction entertainment and non
fiction as a means of spreading the Christian worldview is C. S. Lewis. Lewis, though the joys of the
sub genre of fantasy, managed to create an entertaining story while also upholding and spreading the
Christian worldview. One of his most famous works, The Chronicles of Narnia, is a series filled with
magic and the impossible, but the entire series is riddled with allusions to the Bible, allusions that fell
into place because of his Christian faith. The creation of Narnia (The Magician s Nephew, Chapter 9)
matches the account found in Genesis; the lion present throughout the series, Aslan, is similar to God

Even when the body goes to sleep, the mind stays up all night, telling itself stories. There is a feeling
of greatness and satisfaction in reading and thinking about different situations, of looking at things
form the point of view of another. It is here, in the art of story and of writing fantastical literature, in
which I have found both my passion and, as I believe at this time in my life, calling. There is more to
telling a story than simply pulling story elements from thin air. In a miniscule nutshell, it takes, to
various degrees, planning, delving into psychology, and research. A good story takes imagination,
work, prayer, and, of course, a good deal of coffee. It has been twelve years since I first discovered the
joy of writing, and since then, the desire and joy of this action of creation has only grown, much like a
seed of a great oak tree. To me, there are few things that match the euphoria of writing and completing
a story, or even just a chapter in a manuscript. I have a passion for both writing and reading:
indulgences (in the right moderation) which tend to go hand in hand. After all, what greater teacher for
the writer than those who have written and kept moral standards which they released into

Arguments Against School Uniforms
District 230 should not mandate a school uniform policy because of the following: school uniforms go
against our rights, raise questions of equality, and they rely on anti democratic principles. (MP1)To
start, school uniforms go against rights in the first amendment like: freedom of religion, and freedom
of speech. (EV)Robson states in his Viewpoint, ¨Symbols or words on clothes are most likely to clear
the speech hurdle; they will then be evaluated against the disruption standard articulated by the
Supreme Court in the watershed case Tinker vs. Des Moines Independent Community School District.

rights cases, the court decided for the protesters: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

our speech rights may be censored as students due to the uniform dress code. (MP2)Furthermore, I
disagree the d230 uniform policy because they raise questions of equality. (EV)Robson also states in
his Viewpoint, ¨School dress codes also raise questions of equality. Gender specific guidelines for hair,
jewelry and cosmetics are being tested, especially by transgender students. Bans on saggy pants or
Afro puffs are applied to all students but can be seen as racially biased. Outlawing sweat pants or
frayed garments might well have a disproportionate effect, depending on a family s economic status,
although this argument would be more persuasive to a school board making policy than to a court
applying constitutional doctrine¨ (Robson). (AN)Schools are putting gender specific guidelines on
things like hair, jewelry, and cosmetics. Schools are also putting bans on things like afros, and saggy
pants, which can be seen as racial discrimination. (CO)If district d230 decided to mandate uniforms,

Mars Rover
Mars Rover
Mars is an interesting and mysterious planet. It is often referred to as the Red Planet. The Romans
named Mars after the god of war. The rocks, soil, and sky all have a red hue on account of rust. Mars
is the fourth planet from the sun at about 141 million miles (228 million kilometers) and the last
terrestrial planet from the Sun. Mars follows closely behind Earth but is comparatively smaller, with
about half the diameter of Earth (6,794 km) and about one tenth of Earth s mass (6.419 x 1023 kg).
Thus the force of gravity on Mars is about one third of that on Earth. Mars is probably the planet we
know the most about since it is so close to Earth, though what we know now is not even close to
everything about the planet. Over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of test, drop tests, pull test, drive test, load test, stress tests, and shorting tests. So scientists had to

The Application Of The Patent System
Intellectual Property Midterm
Question #2
The core purpose of the patent system is to incentivize innovation but the current system often has the
opposite effect. Patents give inventors monopolies over their inventions for a period of time in order to
allow inventors to recoup the costs of research and development ( R D ) and to generate profits that
reward inventors efforts, encouraging future investment. In exchange, patentees dedicate their
inventions to the public domain once their patents expire. The traditional model of patent licensing,
whereby a company pays a patent owner to license an invention that a company legitimately uses has
been appropriated by non practicing entities ( patent trolls ) and aggressive patent holders that initiate
frivolous lawsuits. Patent trolls often purchase patents from bankrupt companies, for the sole purpose
of extorting licensing revenues from organizations that are actually creating new products.
Patent examiners increasingly grant overly broad, obvious, and non novel patents particularly in high
technology industries. The massive increase in U.S. patent awards in the past few decades has not
been associated with more rapid economic growth, largely because many of the patents issued are for
advances of marginal value, which slows high quality development and rollout by enabling patent
trolling. Some companies aggressively assert their patent portfolios to prevent competitors from
entering the market. Small companies are

World War 2 Causes
Causes of World War 2 The causes of World War 2 was something that happened during the 1900 s.
Many people believed that this all happened for a reason, which it did. Although, there were many
reasons why World War 2 had started. Some were, The League of Failure of Nations, Pearl Harbor,
and The Holocaust. First of all, in order to fully understand World War 2, people need to know how it
began. WW2 lasted up to 7 years of war. Somehow, Hitler, who was in charge of the holocaust, had
declared this war to begin. He brought a great impact on Great Britain and France (History.com staff).
World War 2 started in September 1939 when both France and Britain declared war on Germany as a
result of its invasion of Poland. Despite Germany instigating World War 2, the causes that led to the
war are more intricate. There were a variety of factors leading up to the second World War, which can
be divided into short term causes (Kiprop). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

last of them surrendered on January 31,1943 (History.com staff). While WW2 was going on, there had

Working With A Debate Lawyer Essay
A probate lawyer is one of the best tools to have at your disposal if you have been chosen to be the
executor of an individual s will or if you are the beneficiary of someone s estate, mostly because the
probate lawyer can ensure that everything is done correctly when it comes to distributing all of the
assets. Listed below are two of the many reasons to work with a probate lawyer. They Can Ensure
That All Required Debts Are Paid Correctly The most important task that many probate lawyers can
help you with is ensuring that all the required debts are paid correctly by the estate. For example, the
probate lawyer can look at the various types of debts that were left behind by the estate and ensure that
not only are the required debts paid but that they will be paid in the right order. This is important
because there can be a number of fines and penalties that can be assessed if you paid the wrong debt
before someone who held a higher priority debt or if you begin paying other debts before paying the
estate taxes. However, determining who has priority over who when it comes to paying these debts
can be extremely tricky as they can vary quite a bit depending on your area, so it is always best to
consult with a probate lawyer to see what the laws in your particular area dictate. They Can Help ...

Cruelty and Insanity in Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys Essay
Cruelty and Insanity in Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys Wide Sargasso Sea provides unique insight
into the gradual deterioration of the human mind and spirit. On examining Antoinette and her mother
Annette, the reader gains a new perspective of insanity. One realizes that these two women are
mentally perturbed as a result of numerous external factors that are beyond their control. The cruelty
of life and people drive Annette and her daughter to lunacy. Neither mother nor daughter have a
genetic predisposition to madness, and their downfall is an inevitable result of the actions of those
around them and the unbearable nature of their living situation. Antoinette s condition owes its
beginnings to the solitude of her childhood, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hence it must be said that the cruelty of their living situation, and not a genetic trait, is responsible for
their dementia. Antoinette suffers another form of solitude because she grows up as an orphan. Her
father died when she was very young, and her mother neglects her, preferring instead to only show
concern for Antoinette?s younger brother, Pierre. Antoinette recalls trying to show her some affection,
but also states, ?she pushed me away, not roughly, but calmly, coldly, without a word, as if she had
decided once and for all that I was useless to her.? Thus the reader recognizes that from a young age,
Antoinette yearns for love and must live with the pain of being rejected by her own mother. This
solitude can again be shown as one of many reasons why Antoinette is mentally unstable. Financial
decline also serves to drive Annette into madness. Annette started out as an affluent socialite and is
now a destitute widow. She is unable to adapt to this new, unfamiliar position in society and longs for
her privileged lifestyle. This becomes evident when Antoinette recalls how her mother ?still planned
and hoped perhaps she had to hope every time she passed a looking glass.? Annette tries to recapture
her former _prestige by riding her horse every morning, even after ?her riding clothes grew shabby?.
Her horse and her riding clothes are status symbols that represented the wealth her family once had.
Annette desperately holds onto these symbols in

Long Term Effects Of Parental Divorce On A Child s...
The key research question in this study is what are the long term effects of parental divorce on a child
s relationship between their parents and their siblings? They took into consideration variables such as
age of divorce, gender, and living arrangements so they can see what influence they may have on the
present study results and compare it with previous studies. They gave 3 different surveys to 102
students with married parents and 107 students with divorced parents to be able to observe the
differences in relationships between the two types of families. Some of the key findings of this study
are that females actually have better adult relationships with their siblings and that divorce caused the
children to have better relationships with their mother, and worse relationships with their father. They
noted that the age when their parents got divorced was not a variable that affected whether or not they
had a good relationship with their siblings. For the relationship between their mothers, it was better
unless there was a variable of pre divorce or post divorce conflict between them. For their fathers, it
showed that daughters had worse relationships with their fathers compared to sons. Living
arrangements showed effects for both of the parents depending on which parent they lived with. When
it comes to remarriage, it had a positive affect on mother child relationship when the father got
remarried and no affect when the mother was remarried.

Microchips in humans
Microchips in Humans In today s society, technology continues to find new ways to protect our
children and families. Several devises have already been developed to track children when they are
away from home. These devises work by GPS signal to track the movement of the child and are worn
externally or are imbedded in an item of clothing. There are also GPS devices already approved for
implantation in humans. VeriChip was the only Food and Drug Administration approved human
implantable microchip for use in medical purposes (DHHS pg. 71702 71704). These developments
have sparked a debate over whether we should consider implanting microchips in humans for tracking
and safety reasons and not just medical purposes. Today there are ... Show more content on

In combination with the surgery, the implant represents a permanent intrusion of our privacy. With an
implanted microchip, your brain is hotwired into a computer that has a GPS tracking systems to
monitor your movements, every minute of every day, for the rest of your life. Just imagine how creepy
that really sounds. The concept of privacy for anyone implanted would never exist again. To protect
our privacy, we need to better understand its value and the purpose it serves. Privacy is understood as
an important barrier that gives us space to develop an identity that is separate from the supervision,
assessments, and values of our society. Privacy is crucial for helping us manage all of the pressures
that shape the type of person we are in society. Privacy is also used as the groundwork to protect our
other fundamental rights. If our right to privacy were compromised then our other rights would soon
faultier as well. To implant microchips into human being seems to be a clear case of intrusion of our
bodies and our lives. Another reason our government should not allow microchips implanted in
humans is that it would serve no real purpose except to track our movements and why should anyone
have that much power over any individual. We need to consider the bigger picture as stated in this
article: Imagine what the government could do with this kind of technology. If it wanted to, it could
use this technology to track literally every movement and behavior of

Sexual Masochism Disorder
Sexual Masochism Disorder I found the inclusion of sexual masochism disorder (and sexual sadism

which is defined as recurrent, intense sexually arousing fantasies, sexual urges, or behaviors generally
involving i) non human objects, ii) the suffering or humiliation of oneself or one s partner, or iii)
children or other non consenting persons that occur over a period of at least 6 months with a proposed

been diagnosed with SMD, or another Paraphilia based disorder. I do believe that for most people who

determined by the community in which they live and the cultural tradition from which they come. In

Disturbances of Acid-Base Balance Essay
Disturbances of Acid Base Balance
If an acid base disturbance shifts the pH outside of the physiologic range, various control measures are
activated to resist the change in pH. Compensatory mechanisms try to preserve the normal 20:1 ratio
of bicarbonate to carbonic acid to keep the pH at normal range. The body works to maintain normal
ratios through a compensation mechanism using renal and respiratory methods (Crowley, 2010).
Metabolic Alkalosis
Metabolic alkalosis is seen by an increase in the concentration of plasma bicarbonate relative to the
concentration of carbonic acid, which shifts the pH to the alkaline side of the physiologic range (case
study pH 7.5). The main causes of metabolic alkalosis are loss of gastric juice or ... Show more

Excessive use of antacids (case study using more than the recommended dose) may also cause
metabolic alkalosis by neutralizing gastric acid, which has the same effect as loss from vomiting.
Ingesting sodium bicarbonate as an antacid to neutralize gastric acid has the same effect as any other
antacid. Any sodium bicarbonate ingested that exceeds the amount required to neutralize the gastric
acid will be absorbed, contributing further to metabolic alkalosis.
Chloride depletion also results from loss of GI secretions caused by severe vomiting (case study) or
diarrhea. Chloride and bicarbonate are the two main anions in the plasma, and their concentrations
vary inversely. When the plasma chloride falls, plasma bicarbonate rises to keep the total
concentration of anions in the extracellular fluids in check.
An excess secretion of adrenal corticosteroids that regulate salt and water metabolism
(mineralocorticoids) often causes metabolic alkalosis, and potassium depletion. A major site of action
of corticosteroids is the distal renal tubule, where the hormone promotes absorption of sodium in
exchange for potassium, which is secreted into the tubular filtrate. An excess of mineralocorticoids
increases absorption of sodium in

Navajo Weavers Essay
No weaver can go without a loom. It is speculated that the Navajos adopted their vertical loom style
from the Pueblo people (Kaufman and Selser 10). The traditional vertical loom is made from branches
of wood tied together with cordage. This portable loom was perfect for the nomadic lifestyle of the
Navajos (Kaufman and Selser 10). Navajo weavers have always used the same basic structure for the
loom. The size of the loom depends on what the weaver is creating, yet more recently looms have
been made much smaller for beginners. In an interview with my brother Chris Brown, an intermediate
weaver, he said, When I first started weaving, my teacher at Diné College had me work with a loom
that was only a foot tall. (Brown). The length and width of a loom will ... Show more content on

There is a Navajo tradition of rubbing spider webs on a baby s hand or hair so that they will become
great weavers. In Diné Bahane or the Navajo Creation story, Spider Man made the first loom and tools
from sunshine, lightening, and rain and Spider Woman instructed the Navajos in the techniques of
weaving. It is said that they Holy People taught the Navajos how to weave so that the Navajos could
provide for themselves and stay warm (Brown). Throughout the centuries, Navajos have wove to
provide for their families. Unlike other Southwest tribes, Navajos are not masters in the realms of
pottery or basketry, instead Navajos are known for their woven rugs. While weavers from the early
20th century and contemporary weavers differ in some aspects, they both use the loom to depict
Navajo designs. Navajo weaving has evolved in terms of technique, materials, artistic style, and
spiritual meaning. Despite the changes, weaving has and will always be a key component in Navajo
culture. When I interviewed Jaren Numkena, he said, Weaving is my job right now but I only weave
when it feels right. To me, weaving is life.

The Epic of Gilgamesh Summary and analysis Introduction The Epic of Gilgamesh is an excerpt of
the original text of the Epic listed in the Sources of the Western Tradition , 5th edition, by Perry, Peden
and Von Laue (2003). The Epic of Gilgamesh is the story of King Gilgamesh who is the powerful king
of Uruk, the incidents in his life, the associations he makes, the encounters he has, and the transition
that occurs in his life in relation to his gaining knowledge of the mortality of human life. The story
further outlines the transformation that Gilgamesh gets with respect to his outlook after the traumatic
death of his friend Enkidu, which makes him to embark on a quest for eternity. Gilgamesh subjects the
people in his kingdom to hard rule. The Gods create Enkidu to counter him. Friendship develops
between Enkidu and Gilgamesh and together they launch adventures for conquests together. In the
process, they kill the terrible monster, Humbaba and the Bull of Heaven. For this, they incur the wrath
of Gods, who decide to put an end to the life of Enkidu. Enkidu gets a dream about his impending
death and dies after suffering for a few days with sickness. The death of Enkidu shatters Gilgamesh
who wants to immortalize himself by escaping death. He goes in search of Utnapishtim, who is

Examples Of Personality Development In Frankenstein
Personality Development: Nature Versus Nurture As Seen In Frankenstein Nature versus nurture, an
ongoing controversy in modern psychology, is a prominent theme in Frankenstein. For centuries,
psychologists and philosophers have been arguing about the basis of personality development and
social integration. Many psychologists adopt a biological or natural approach, believing that
personality development is a result of individual genetics. Alternatively, other psychologists believe in
an environmental approach, which states that an individual will learn how to act based on their life
circumstances, surroundings, and interactions. In Frankenstein, Mary Shelley successfully validates
the nurture side of this debate through her explanation the monster s personality development;
although he was born with the natural desire to be gentle and kind, he eventually became a vicious
monster because of constant rejection, which can wreak havoc on people and turn them into violent

Even nowadays, psychologists and researchers are studying this correlation. In fact, many recent case
studies indicate that school shootings were a result of rejection. Although this seems highly unusual
and extreme, in an examination of fifteen school shootings between 1995 and 2001, the attackers in
almost every case faced some kind of social rejection, with the exception of only two out of the
fifteen. In one particularly frightening school shooting in 1997 in West Paducah, Kentucky, the shooter
was clearly teased, rejected and bullied. After his arrest, he declared that he had grown tired of being
teased and was quoted as saying, people respect me now. (Leary et al.). Furthermore, constant
rejection causes the victim to feel threatened, which gives them an urge to retaliate with violence and

Factors Influencing The Factor Analysis
Factor analysis According to Maria Eva, the factor analysis is a technique in the statistics to observe
variability in the correlated variables in terms of lowers number of unobserved variables, which is
necessary for factorization (Maria Eva, 2012). Dehak, Kenn, Dehak, Dumouchel, Ouellet, further
stated that, the factor analysis is useful technique to investigate the relationship between the variables
in complex concepts and the main purpose of the factor analysis is to reduce the number of variables
associated with the measure and to detect the structures of the relationship between the variables
(Dehak, Kenn, Dehak, Dumouchel, Ouellet, 2011) .
The application of factor analysis widely used in social research (Steinfeld, Navon, Creech, Yakhini,
Tsalenko, 2014). The current study employs factor analysis to reduce the items in the questionnaire for
data reduction as per the recommendations of In addition, the factor analysis is used to construct the
factor based on the items in the scale (Wang Ahmed, 2004). Hence, the factor analysis is used for data
reduction and structuring the variables. Factor analysis has two types as discussed below, exploratory

Classification Of Polymers, Cellulose, Starch, And Rubber
 Polymers they are combined form small units of compound having low molecular weight, as a wall
is made up of bricks.  The word polymer is taken from two Greek words poly states many and (mer)
means unit or part.  The term polymer is defined as very large molecules having high molecular
mass. These are also referred to as macromolecules, which are formed by joining of repeating
structural units on a large scale.  The repeating structural units are derived from some simple and
reactive molecules known as monomers and are linked to each other by covalent bonds.  This
process of formation of polymers from respective monomers is called polymerization. (2)Types of
Polymers There are several ways of classification of polymers based on some special considerations.
The following are some of the common classifications of polymers: Under this type of classification,
there are three sub categories.  (2,1,1) Natural polymers these polymers are found in plants and
animals. Examples are proteins, cellulose, starch, and rubber.  (2,1,2) Semi synthetic polymers
Cellulose derivatives as cellulose acetate (rayon) and cellulose nitrate, etc. are the usual examples of
this sub category.  (2,1,3) Synthetic polymers A variety of synthetic polymers as plastic (polythene),

Physical Value in Keats Ode on a Grecian Urn Essay
Physical Value in Keats Ode on a Grecian Urn
The poetry of John Keats contains many references to physical things, from nightingales to gold and
silver garnished things, and a casual reader might be tempted to accept these at face value, as simple
physical objects meant to evoke a response either sensual or emotional; however, this is not the case.
Keats, in the poem Ode Upon a Grecian Urn, turns the traditional understanding of physical objects on
its head, and uses them not solid tangible articles, but instead as metaphors for and connections to
abstract concepts, such as truth and eternity.
In the poem, Keats dismisses the value of physical things as only corporeal for what he feels is more
substantial and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What is the metaphysical truth then, that Keats seeks to connect to the physical beauty of the Grecian
urn? Webster defines truth as Conformity to fact or reality; exact accordance with that which is, or has
been; or shall be. ; another description, more Romantic and fitting to Keats, is Bertrand Russell s:
Truth is a shining goddess, always veiled, always distant, never wholly approachable, but worthy of
all the devotion of which the human spirit is capable. . Keats is essentially saying through the urn that
truth, the conforming to facts, is the exact same thing as physical beauty; beauty is a factual attribute
of an object.
An analysis of the text, searching for connections between the abstract and the tangible, would do
much to elucidate this matter. The poem is broken into five parts.
The first section opens with a description of the urn as a bride, a foster child, a historian. All these
personifications are subtle linkings of the abstract actions related to those roles which Keats assigns to
the concrete object, the urn. He then further reinforces this subtle link with a series of observations on
what is painted on the urn. What men or gods are these? What maidens loath? / What mad pursuit?
What struggle to escape? / What pipes and timbrels? What wild ecstasy? (lines 8 10) is another
demonstration; he makes

Triangle Shirtwaist Impact On Society
Societal/ Economical/ Political issues The Triangle Shirtwaist had an enormous impact on society.
Most employees working at this factory were young immigrant girls who did not receive proper
working conditions. When the incident occurred, news eventually spread throughout the immigrant
community causing an uproar. The uproar would soon push issues of unsafe factories and immigrant
exploitation into the public minds for a while. For the first time, the Triangle Shirtwaist fire exposed
the awful conditions of New York factories. Many changes took place such the creation of
International Ladies Garment Workers Union who held many strikes against the company. Their goal
was to negotiate better wages and working conditions for the members of the ... Show more content on

Government agencies answered to the public uproar by examining the conditions of the triangle
company and other similar facilities. The discoveries made showed that half the city workers jobs
where located higher than fire department ladders could reach, unhealthy working conditions, with
iron bars blocking fire escapes, overcrowded conditions, and wooden rickety buildings. Blanck, Harris
the owners of Triangle insured the building and received two hundred thousand dollars from nearly
forty different insurance companies. Shortly after the fire, they tried to open a new business. They
were fined by inspectors for positioning the machines close together. Blanck and Harris were charged
with manslaughter on April 11 for keeping the back doors locked in the factory. In 1913, Blanck was
charged again for locking the door to one of his new factories and was fined twenty dollars. The
following year, the two factory owners were fined for sewing fake consumer labels into their clothing
saying the factory met working standards. In 1914, Blanck and Harris settled the civil suits against
them, paying seventy five dollars for each life lost. they had so much insurance that they made sixty
five thousand dollars in profit off their factory burning and number workers dead. This caused more
chaos amongst the people, because the owners profited off the fire. By breaking canon 1,5,6 it is
obvious that both owners displayed terrible ethical

Common and Preferred Stock
How do Corporations raise capital? All of the large corporations could not have grown to their present
size without being able to find innovative ways to raise capital to finance ultimate expansion. There
are many ways this can be accomplished, but this review will take a look at just two ways: the
issuance of Preferred Stock and selling of Common Stock. What exactly is a stock, anyway? Basically,
stock is ownership, simple as that. Buy a share of APPLE Inc. and acquire a tiny sliver of the
computer giant, tying the investments fate to that of the Chairman, for better or worse. This is
ownership in the most literal sense: You get a piece of every desk, contract and ... Show more content

In contrast to a Common Stock, a company may choose to issue Preferred Stock to raise capital.
Preferred Stock represents a hybrid in the sense that it is an equity interest with certain features
resembling debt. Buyers of these shares have special status in the event the underlying company
encounters financial trouble. A typical preferred shareholder doesn t vote on the composition of the
company s board or other matters. They are more interested in receiving regular dividends, since these
dividends do not fluctuate based on the company s profits; each preferred shareholder is entitled to a
fixed amount at certain periods, just so long as the company has the money to do so. Dividends are,
also, paid to preferred stockholders before they are paid to common stockholders. Preferred stock is
issued with a specific dividend rate. The dividend rate may be stated as a dollar amount or as a
percentage of the par value. When dividends are paid, preferred stockholders are paid the amount
applicable to their class of preferred stock. Several advantages to issuing preferred stock include: no
dilution of management s interest in corporate growth or in voting power (if non voting preferred
stock is issued), and predictable dividend payments and preferences upon liquidation (for which
investors may pay a premium). Although, disadvantages include: a

Critical Analysis Of Robert Reich s Inequality For All
In the documentary titled Inequality for All , Robert Reich attempts to describe to the audience and his
students reasons for the income inequality found in the United States. Inequality for All showed an
endearing and caring side of Reich, where he made himself seem human and fallible. I found myself
personally enjoying this side of him, the short aging man who, although a Rhodes Scholar drives a
Cooper and holds himself above politics.
After reflection and research, one can quickly see where Mr. Reich uses emotion and imagery to build
a false argument. His attempts to pull the emotional strings of the audience begin with his extreme
shortness caused by a medical affliction. We move to Reich driving an inexpensive car with a manual
transmission. Then we meet a woman having difficulty making ends meet and crying while relating
her story. Reich shows the audience and his students a Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) graph
with a hockey stick curve so sharp it was astounding. I had to pause the film so I could research this
graph as the visual was so extraordinary. I found an online interactive graph of the DJIA using data for
the last 8 or 9 decades. I could not create any data set that produced the theatrical image shown in the
film. This, however, is typical Robert Reich, shocking graphs with no numbers. He just uses them as
pictures to demonstrate an emotional point, never mind there is no substance, just emotion.
Attempting to illustrate the income inequality, we were introduced to the graph showing a U shaped
curve . Reich, Saez and Piketty wanted to present that curve represented income disparity from 1900
to present day. Reich and his cohorts wanted to focus on the timeline of the graph from around 1920 to
1940. It seems this was a time where the income differential was much less than present day and they
want to get back to that time.
News flash gentlemen, that was the World War I and Great Depression era. Capital was devalued or
lost at such a tremendous level, we developed a capitalized name for it. We teach school children of
these times, but the documentary seems to ignore or gloss over it. Simple mathematics would lead us
to understand that the loss of capital affected the top percentage

A Case For The Foreclosure Proceeding
This case arises out of a foreclosure proceeding initiated in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City by
substitute trustees Thomas P. Dore, Mark S. Devan, Gerard F. Miles, Jr., Shannon Menapace, and Erin
Gloth (collectively, the Substitute Trustees ), appellees. In the foreclosure proceedings, the Substitute
Trustees filed an order to docket a foreclosure with respect to real property located at 3517 Woodstock
Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21213 ( the Property ) owned by mortgagor Celeste Wenegieme (
Wenegieme ), appellant. Following the sale of Wenegieme s property and the ratification of that sale,
the purchaser of the property, Wells Fargo Bank, M.A. ( Wells Fargo ), filed a motion for judgment
awarding possession of the property. The circuit court granted Well s Fargo s motion and this timely
appeal followed. On appeal, Wenegieme challenges the sale of the property. Indeed, Wenegieme
presents one question for our review, which we have rephrased as follows:
Whether the circuit court erred in granting Wells Fargo s motion for judgment awarding possession.
For the reasons set forth herein, we shall affirm the judgments of the Circuit Court for Baltimore City.
FACTS AND PROCEEDINGS In June of 2008, Wenegieme purchased the Property in exchange for a
note and a Deed of Trust made to the order of Advisors Mortgage Group, LLC, in the amount of
$216,956 plus interest. The note was subsequently transferred to Wells Fargo. In February of 2012, the
parties agreed to modify

One Should Never Give Up In The Caged Bird Poem Analysis
One should never give up when faced with difficulties. When faced with a challenge, the way one
reacts shows strength or weaknesses, and can close or open doors for them. In all 5 texts the author
shows some way that the character either gives up or faces their challenge. When one works hard they
are rewarded, but when one gives up when faced with a challenge they are punished.
When one gives up, or acts hopeless, he shows how he has no determination or work ethic. In the
Escalator and Calvin Situation, they gave up when faced with a challenge. In the Stuck on an
Escalator, the people just sat there complaining, looking hopeless and weak, when they could ve just
walked up the escalator. In the Calvin at school comic, he has so many high expectations for himself
but when when told that a pleasant future and getting paid well required hard work and dedication in
school, he gave up before he even tried. So how would one know his full potential when he doesn t
want to put even a little effort in to reach his goal. In the Caged Bird poem, both birds show signs of
failure in life. The free bird has had many opportunities given to him, so he has no sense of hard work
or what challenge really is, so when eventually he has arrived on a difficult time he is going to
struggle and might not have the strength to keep going. The Caged bird has had a rough time, because
he is going through the hardship that the free bird knows has never experienced, so he lets anger and
restrictedness

Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP)
Abstract
This paper is going to take a detailed look at Bombardier Recreational Products, also known as BRP.
The examination of BRP will begin with the inception of the company, and the product started it all,
the tracked vehicle for transportation on snow. Its evolution took it from a car like vehicle to what is
known today as the snowmobile and while it has evolved with modern technology it is the heartbeat
that has helped BRP grow into a global leader. BRP just does not make snowmobiles; they
manufacture a wide range of recreational products to be used all year round. Vehicles that enhance the
human experience across land and sea. As much fun and success as BRP has with the products they
produce, the success of BRP lies in the company s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
BRP, like many companies, offer replacement parts for all the products they manufacture because they
want to keep people outside enjoying their products. They also make accessories and clothing to help
an owner customize their vehicle to their liking and keep them comfortable while doo ing it
(publications.brp.com).
Today BRP s success is not possible without the management team that has driven the brand forward
since Bombardier left it in his family s hands in 1964. Like Bombardier, the company continues to be
a leader in innovation and technology. The focus of the company s vision to excel with the mission of
excellence has maintained the values of Bombardier in a global presence that would make him

Essay About Chapter 1
The metal pieces shot through the wolf like creature s head, turning it into a black liquid substance
before forming back into a head again. Seeing this Malessica started to move away from it. Epsilon
followed Malessica, trying to keep a distance from the creature. Dorian had still been in the area,
trying to find an opportunity to strike. Once he found his moment, Dorian clenched his right fist
tightly sending a punch at the wolf creature. The creature turned its head towards Dorian, avoiding the
punch and biting his arm. Dorian s body started to become visible again, watching the blood drip from
his arm. How did it see him! Epsilon thought. He was completely invisible. Sylvia laughed, sitting on

Epsilon shot out a bolt of lightning towards the bear, instantly turning the bear into a black liquid.
Though it was a good hit, the ink eventually formed back into a bear. Dorian placed his hand over his
bitten arm. Attacking those creations are pointless. The only time these things are going away, is if we
defeat the user, though getting to her might be a bit hard. She s a long range fighter so she ll make sure
we don t get too close. Sylvia smirked. A man with so much experience in combat. Though you re part
of S.P.D I m actually more impressed by you. You re able to understand my power, but you ve barely
seen the things I can create. My manifestation: Living Ink, is unbeatable. We need to make a plan.
Dorian whispered. We ll just be wasting energy fighting these things. Epsilon surrounded his body
with electricity. If you want to deal with long distance fighters, I m the guy you want. I have ranged
attacks and my flash flicker allows me to move much faster than most people, I can close the distance
between myself and her, no problem. Using Flash flicker, Epsilon sped past Malessica and Dorian,
making his way to Sylvia. Stopping in front of her, he sent a strong yet quick punch to her stomach,
causing her to spit up, sending her flying back. Malessica smiled as Epsilon delivered a strong blow.
Epsilon noticed the snake tattoo from around her neck, jumped towards him turning into ink as it
landed on his arm. The snake tattoo,

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Microorganisms
1. Biofilms
Microorganisms, like most other species on this planet, are also well acquainted with the benefits of
joining hands together as a single community. Sometimes, in response to various factors, a biofilm
may be formed. A biofilm is a community of bacterial cells, enclosed within a self produced matrix of
Extracellular Polymeric Substance (EPS)1. In simpler terms, it means that bacteria can join together
on a surface, living or non living, and form a protective matrix around the entire group. This matrix is
generally composed of extracellular DNA, polysaccharides and proteins. Also, the microbial cells
growing in a biofilm undergo physiological changes, as a result of which they are different from
planktonic cells of the same organism (single cells that may float around in a liquid medium).
Formation of biofilms offers the microorganisms various advantages; it enables transfer and sharing of
genetic material, metabolic by products, it also provides shelter during environmental changes, offers
an increased tolerance to antimicrobials and also protection from the immune system of the host
organism. Clearly, biofilms are well equipped to cause diseases in various organisms. The microbes
attach themselves to surfaces, initially using weak Vander Waal s forces. However, if they are not
separated, they attach ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Graduation Speech Essay
South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu wrote, You are a very special person become what you are.
These words encourage us, the graduating class of 2012, to recognize the goodness and potential in
each and every one of us and to go out and excel in the world. We are a diverse group of different
aspirations and backgrounds, bound for different corners of the earth to carve out our won individual
niches. Before we leave behind Lee Falls High School and each other, we must ask ourselves how we
have become who we are.

The interpretation of Tempo, Dynamics and Expression through Instrumentation in three recordings of Vittorio Monti s Czardas Vittorio Monti s famous virtuosic piece Czardas has been arranged for many instruments over the years. Being a percussionist and having played this piece I was interested in how this piece would vary in terms of tempo, dynamics and expression due to instrumentation. I chose to compare three recordings: one by violinist Frank Kim accompanied by piano as this represents the piece as it was originally written for piano and violin. He attended the Conservatoire of San Pietro a Majella where he studied composition and violin, as well as playing mandolin. When he was in his thirty s he was asked to conduct in Paris for the Lamourex Orchestra, during this period Monti composed a number of operas and ballets such as Noel de Pierrot. In 1904 he wrote what is probably his most famous piece, Czardas, which he based on the Hungarian folk dance called Csardas. Although originally composed for solo violin and piano there have been many arrangements for numerous instruments over the years. Czardas or Hungarian Czardas is a national dance of Hungary for couples; it is written in simple time and involves forceful syncopated rhythms. The dance starts off with a slow section called the Lassu and is followed by a fast section called the Friss. Monti begins his piece at a slow, broad speed marked largo this represents the lassu from the dance. In the violin (Monti, 2015) recording the notes are very legato and there is a lot of vibrato to add extra expression, colour and phrasing to the music. • 10. The Application Of The Patent System Intellectual Property Midterm Question #2 The core purpose of the patent system is to incentivize innovation but the current system often has the opposite effect. Patents give inventors monopolies over their inventions for a period of time in order to allow inventors to recoup the costs of research and development ( R D ) and to generate profits that reward inventors efforts, encouraging future investment. In exchange, patentees dedicate their inventions to the public domain once their patents expire. The traditional model of patent licensing, whereby a company pays a patent owner to license an invention that a company legitimately uses has been appropriated by non practicing entities ( patent trolls ) and aggressive patent holders that initiate frivolous lawsuits. Patent trolls often purchase patents from bankrupt companies, for the sole purpose of extorting licensing revenues from organizations that are actually creating new products. Patent examiners increasingly grant overly broad, obvious, and non novel patents particularly in high technology industries. The massive increase in U.S. patent awards in the past few decades has not been associated with more rapid economic growth, largely because many of the patents issued are for advances of marginal value, which slows high quality development and rollout by enabling patent trolling. Some companies aggressively assert their patent portfolios to prevent competitors from entering the market. Small companies are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Antoinette recalls trying to show her some affection, but also states, ?she pushed me away, not roughly, but calmly, coldly, without a word, as if she had decided once and for all that I was useless to her.? The key research question in this study is what are the long term effects of parental divorce on a child s relationship between their parents and their siblings? They took into consideration variables such as age of divorce, gender, and living arrangements so they can see what influence they may have on the present study results and compare it with previous studies. They gave 3 different surveys to 102 students with married parents and 107 students with divorced parents to be able to observe the differences in relationships between the two types of families. Some of the key findings of this study are that females actually have better adult relationships with their siblings and that divorce caused the children to have better relationships with their mother, and worse relationships with their father. They noted that the age when their parents got divorced was not a variable that affected whether or not they had a good relationship with their siblings. For the relationship between their mothers, it was better unless there was a variable of pre divorce or post divorce conflict between them. For their fathers, it showed that daughters had worse relationships with their fathers compared to sons. Living arrangements showed effects for both of the parents depending on which parent they lived with. To protect our privacy, we need to better understand its value and the purpose it serves. Disturbances of Acid-Base Balance Essay Disturbances of Acid Base Balance If an acid base disturbance shifts the pH outside of the physiologic range, various control measures are activated to resist the change in pH. Compensatory mechanisms try to preserve the normal 20:1 ratio of bicarbonate to carbonic acid to keep the pH at normal range. The body works to maintain normal ratios through a compensation mechanism using renal and respiratory methods (Crowley, 2010). Metabolic Alkalosis Metabolic alkalosis is seen by an increase in the concentration of plasma bicarbonate relative to the concentration of carbonic acid, which shifts the pH to the alkaline side of the physiologic range (case study pH 7.5). The main causes of metabolic alkalosis are loss of gastric juice or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Excessive use of antacids (case study using more than the recommended dose) may also cause metabolic alkalosis by neutralizing gastric acid, which has the same effect as loss from vomiting. Ingesting sodium bicarbonate as an antacid to neutralize gastric acid has the same effect as any other antacid. Any sodium bicarbonate ingested that exceeds the amount required to neutralize the gastric acid will be absorbed, contributing further to metabolic alkalosis. Chloride depletion also results from loss of GI secretions caused by severe vomiting (case study) or diarrhea. Chloride and bicarbonate are the two main anions in the plasma, and their concentrations vary inversely. In 1914, Blanck and Harris settled the civil suits against them, paying seventy five dollars for each life lost. they had so much insurance that they made sixty five thousand dollars in profit off their factory burning and number workers dead. This caused more chaos amongst the people, because the owners profited off the fire. By breaking canon 1,5,6 it is obvious that both owners displayed terrible ethical ... • 40. Common and Preferred Stock Intermediate Acct410B Research Paper Common and Preferred Stock How do Corporations raise capital? All of the large corporations could not have grown to their present size without being able to find innovative ways to raise capital to finance ultimate expansion. There are many ways this can be accomplished, but this review will take a look at just two ways: the issuance of Preferred Stock and selling of Common Stock. What exactly is a stock, anyway? Basically, stock is ownership, simple as that. Buy a share of APPLE Inc. and acquire a tiny sliver of the computer giant, tying the investments fate to that of the Chairman, for better or worse. This is ownership in the most literal sense: You get a piece of every desk, contract and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In contrast to a Common Stock, a company may choose to issue Preferred Stock to raise capital. Preferred Stock represents a hybrid in the sense that it is an equity interest with certain features resembling debt. Buyers of these shares have special status in the event the underlying company encounters financial trouble. A typical preferred shareholder doesn t vote on the composition of the company s board or other matters. They are more interested in receiving regular dividends, since these dividends do not fluctuate based on the company s profits; each preferred shareholder is entitled to a fixed amount at certain periods, just so long as the company has the money to do so. Dividends are, also, paid to preferred stockholders before they are paid to common stockholders. Preferred stock is issued with a specific dividend rate. The dividend rate may be stated as a dollar amount or as a percentage of the par value. When dividends are paid, preferred stockholders are paid the amount applicable to their class of preferred stock. Several advantages to issuing preferred stock include: no dilution of management s interest in corporate growth or in voting power (if non voting preferred stock is issued), and predictable dividend payments and preferences upon liquidation (for which investors may pay a premium). Although, disadvantages include: a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Critical Analysis Of Robert Reich s Inequality For All In the documentary titled Inequality for All , Robert Reich attempts to describe to the audience and his students reasons for the income inequality found in the United States. Inequality for All showed an endearing and caring side of Reich, where he made himself seem human and fallible. I found myself personally enjoying this side of him, the short aging man who, although a Rhodes Scholar drives a Cooper and holds himself above politics. After reflection and research, one can quickly see where Mr. Reich uses emotion and imagery to build a false argument. His attempts to pull the emotional strings of the audience begin with his extreme shortness caused by a medical affliction. We move to Reich driving an inexpensive car with a manual transmission. Then we meet a woman having difficulty making ends meet and crying while relating her story. Reich shows the audience and his students a Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) graph with a hockey stick curve so sharp it was astounding. I had to pause the film so I could research this graph as the visual was so extraordinary. I found an online interactive graph of the DJIA using data for the last 8 or 9 decades. I could not create any data set that produced the theatrical image shown in the film. This, however, is typical Robert Reich, shocking graphs with no numbers. He just uses them as pictures to demonstrate an emotional point, never mind there is no substance, just emotion. Attempting to illustrate the income inequality, we were introduced to the graph showing a U shaped curve . Reich, Saez and Piketty wanted to present that curve represented income disparity from 1900 to present day. Reich and his cohorts wanted to focus on the timeline of the graph from around 1920 to 1940. It seems this was a time where the income differential was much less than present day and they want to get back to that time. News flash gentlemen, that was the World War I and Great Depression era. Capital was devalued or lost at such a tremendous level, we developed a capitalized name for it. We teach school children of these times, but the documentary seems to ignore or gloss over it. Simple mathematics would lead us to understand that the loss of capital affected the top percentage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. A Case For The Foreclosure Proceeding This case arises out of a foreclosure proceeding initiated in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City by substitute trustees Thomas P. Dore, Mark S. Devan, Gerard F. Miles, Jr., Shannon Menapace, and Erin Gloth (collectively, the Substitute Trustees ), appellees. In the foreclosure proceedings, the Substitute Trustees filed an order to docket a foreclosure with respect to real property located at 3517 Woodstock Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21213 ( the Property ) owned by mortgagor Celeste Wenegieme ( Wenegieme ), appellant. Following the sale of Wenegieme s property and the ratification of that sale, the purchaser of the property, Wells Fargo Bank, M.A. ( Wells Fargo ), filed a motion for judgment awarding possession of the property. The circuit court granted Well s Fargo s motion and this timely appeal followed. On appeal, Wenegieme challenges the sale of the property. Indeed, Wenegieme presents one question for our review, which we have rephrased as follows: Whether the circuit court erred in granting Wells Fargo s motion for judgment awarding possession. For the reasons set forth herein, we shall affirm the judgments of the Circuit Court for Baltimore City. FACTS AND PROCEEDINGS In June of 2008, Wenegieme purchased the Property in exchange for a note and a Deed of Trust made to the order of Advisors Mortgage Group, LLC, in the amount of $216,956 plus interest. The note was subsequently transferred to Wells Fargo. In February of 2012, the parties agreed to modify ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. One Should Never Give Up In The Caged Bird Poem Analysis One should never give up when faced with difficulties. When faced with a challenge, the way one reacts shows strength or weaknesses, and can close or open doors for them. In all 5 texts the author shows some way that the character either gives up or faces their challenge. When one works hard they are rewarded, but when one gives up when faced with a challenge they are punished. When one gives up, or acts hopeless, he shows how he has no determination or work ethic. In the Escalator and Calvin Situation, they gave up when faced with a challenge. In the Stuck on an Escalator, the people just sat there complaining, looking hopeless and weak, when they could ve just walked up the escalator. In the Calvin at school comic, he has so many high expectations for himself but when when told that a pleasant future and getting paid well required hard work and dedication in school, he gave up before he even tried. So how would one know his full potential when he doesn t want to put even a little effort in to reach his goal. In the Caged Bird poem, both birds show signs of failure in life. The free bird has had many opportunities given to him, so he has no sense of hard work or what challenge really is, so when eventually he has arrived on a difficult time he is going to struggle and might not have the strength to keep going. The Caged bird has had a rough time, because he is going through the hardship that the free bird knows has never experienced, so he lets anger and restrictedness ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Essay About Chapter 1 The metal pieces shot through the wolf like creature s head, turning it into a black liquid substance before forming back into a head again. Seeing this Malessica started to move away from it. Epsilon followed Malessica, trying to keep a distance from the creature. Dorian had still been in the area, trying to find an opportunity to strike. Once he found his moment, Dorian clenched his right fist tightly sending a punch at the wolf creature. The creature turned its head towards Dorian, avoiding the punch and biting his arm. Dorian s body started to become visible again, watching the blood drip from his arm. How did it see him! She s a long range fighter so she ll make sure we don t get too close. Sylvia smirked. A man with so much experience in combat. Though you re part of S.P.D I m actually more impressed by you. You re able to understand my power, but you ve barely seen the things I can create. My manifestation: Living Ink, is unbeatable. We need to make a plan. Dorian whispered. We ll just be wasting energy fighting these things. Epsilon surrounded his body with electricity. If you want to deal with long distance fighters, I m the guy you want. I have ranged attacks and my flash flicker allows me to move much faster than most people, I can close the distance between myself and her, no problem. Using Flash flicker, Epsilon sped past Malessica and Dorian, making his way to Sylvia. Stopping in front of her, he sent a strong yet quick punch to her stomach, causing her to spit up, sending her flying back. Malessica smiled as Epsilon delivered a strong blow. • 46. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Microorganisms 1. Biofilms Microorganisms, like most other species on this planet, are also well acquainted with the benefits of joining hands together as a single community. Sometimes, in response to various factors, a biofilm may be formed. A biofilm is a community of bacterial cells, enclosed within a self produced matrix of Extracellular Polymeric Substance (EPS)1. In simpler terms, it means that bacteria can join together on a surface, living or non living, and form a protective matrix around the entire group. This matrix is generally composed of extracellular DNA, polysaccharides and proteins. Also, the microbial cells growing in a biofilm undergo physiological changes, as a result of which they are different from planktonic cells of the same organism (single cells that may float around in a liquid medium). Formation of biofilms offers the microorganisms various advantages; it enables transfer and sharing of genetic material, metabolic by products, it also provides shelter during environmental changes, offers an increased tolerance to antimicrobials and also protection from the immune system of the host organism. Clearly, biofilms are well equipped to cause diseases in various organisms. The microbes attach themselves to surfaces, initially using weak Vander Waal s forces. However, if they are not separated, they attach ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
