Essay on Domestic Terrorism
Domestic Terrorism
National terrorism has been the focus of attention since September 11. But now domestic terrorism is
becoming increasingly common among hate groups across the nation. Domestic terrorism can be
defined as visible crime, or street crime. These acts would consist of violent crimes, (acts against
people in which injury or death results) property crimes (acts that threaten property held by
individuals or the state) and public order crimes. (acts that threaten the general well being of society
and challenger accepted moral principles) It can also however be described as political crime,
(criminal acts by or against the government for ideological purposes) which would include the 9/11
and the Oklahoma City bombing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More specifically, we read and study for classes because we are students. In turn, people in these
deviant groups plan and/or commit violent acts against people, other groups, the government, etc.
because they are in those groups. A specific example from the article would be in October 2004 in
Tennessee the FBI arrested Demetrius Van Crocker who hated the government and tried to acquire
explosives and chemical weapons so that he could blow up a government building. [1] His role was to
hate the government, and try to destroy it or hurt it in anyway. Perhaps the concept that would relate to
this article the best is deviance. Deviance is behavior that violates the standards of conduct or
expectations of a group or society. To our society these domestic terrorist acts and domestic terrorist
groups would be considered deviant. They violate the standards of conduct or expectations that we set
for our society, by committing acts of terrorism on people, other groups and our nation as a whole.
Deviance can tie into the labeling theory which is when the label of being deviant is applied to a
person. Furthermore, these people and groups would be seen as pure deviant(s), which means they are
perceived as deviant and actually are deviant. This brings us to our last concept, social control, which
are the strategies and techniques for preventing deviant behavior in any society. The article describes
attempts

Relationship Between Economic Growth And Its Determinants
The relationship between economic growth and its determinants has been examined extensively. One
important issue is whether population leads to employment changes or employment leads to
population changes (do jobs follow people or people follow jobs ?). To explain this interdependence
between household residential choices and firm location choices, Carlino and Mills (1987) initially
developed a simultaneous equations model. Various studies have applied this modeling framework to
investigate the interdependence between migration and employment growth or migration, employment
growth, and income jointly determined by regional variables such as public land policy (Duffy Deno,
1997, 1998; Eichman et al., 2010; Lewis et al., 2002, Lewis et al., 2003; Lundgren, 2009), natural
amenities (Clark and Murphy, 1996; Deller, 2001; Waltert et al., 2011), and land development
(Carruthers and Mulligan, 2007). In the Carlino Mills (1987) model, the underlying assumption are
that (1) households and firms are spatially mobile, (2) households migrate to maximize their utility
from the consumption of private goods and services and use of non market goods (amenities), and (3)
firms locate to maximize their profit whose production costs and revenues depend on business
conditions, local public services, markets, and supply of inputs. These assumptions indicate that
interdependence between employment and household income exists because household migrate if they
can obtain better income

Carl Sandburg Influences
Throughout history millions of poets have left a huge impact on American Literature. It is the literary
movement that influenced millions of upcoming writers, poets, folklorists, historians, and novelists to
inspire the minds of others through their broad works. Speaking of which Carl Sandburg, is a prime
example of what an intellectual and inspiring poet consisted of; however it did not come naturally, it
took hard work and dedication. Born into poverty Sandburg knew that his impecunious lifestyle was
not the end of the road for him. In order to remain stable, Carl Sandburg at a young age quit school,
and worked various jobs to be supportive to his family. Far along down the line Sandburg attended

Sandburg s writings encouraged the lives of many, because it helped them to actually understand the
American society while facing problems with politics and life period. Being that Sandburg was noble
he did not have an easy start. Sandburg grew up in a home that was really really poor, however he
knew that he had to do something in order to help his family in a time of despair. Sandburg, did
various jobs such as driving milk wagons, laying bricks, and dishwashing. However, Sandburg knew
that these regular jobs were not going to be his life forever. Sandburg later found that he had a love for
poetry and that became his new appetite. Sandburg s career became so successful that he published
thousands of books and was admired by millions. Because of his heartfelt and inspiring poetry he
received many awards in his time period. Awards such as three Pulitzer Prizes and a Grammy Award
for the Best Performance on Lincoln s Portrait. Carl Sandburg was honored by so many Americans
that there are national historic sites in the remembrance of him; schools named after him and also
colleges as well. It is mind blowing how someone who grew up so poorly has now become one of the
most influential people in American literature. Carl Sandburg s impact on society will never fade away

African American Culture Essay example
African American Culture
Culture is not a fixed phenomenon, nor is it the same in all places or to all people. It is relative to time,
place, and particular people. Learning about other people can help us to understand ourselves and to
be better world citizens. One of the most common ways of studying culture is to focus on the
differences within and among cultures. Although their specifics may vary form one culture to another,
sociologists refer to those elements or characteristics that can be found in every know society as
cultural universals. For example, in all societies, funeral rites include expression of grief, disposing of
the dead, and rituals that define the relations of the dead with the living. And on the most ... Show

Many of our life lessons were often given by our elders in the form of stories, jokes, and the spirituals
which serve often song in the fields, as well as, on Sunday mornings. Yet, as a people, we thought it
necessary to hold on these priceless teachings because it has served as the only link to our African
ancestry. African American culture is both part of and distinct from American culture. African
Americans have contributed literature, agricultural skills, foods, clothing, dance, and language to
American culture. There are distinctive patterns of language use among African Americans that arose
as creative responses to the hardships imposed on the African American community. Slave owners
forced African Americans to create a language that allowed them to communicate effectively with one
another. Slaves were not allowed the opportunity to read and write because most slave owners thought
they would find a way to buy their freedom if they knew how to read and write. Significant numbers
of people still speak some of the Creole languages they used to communicate so many years ago.
Agriculture and food is also a unique aspect of African American culture. The cultivation and use of
many agricultural products, such as yams, peanuts, rice, okra, grits, and cotton, can be traced to
African and African American influences. African American foods reflect creative

The British-Revolutionary War
The years prior to the Revolutionary War proved to be a trying time for the early American colonists.
The French and Indian War, or Seven Years War, represented the decisive turning point in British
colonial relations. The Treaty of Paris in 1763 ratified Britain s undisputed control of the seas and
shipping trade, as well as its sovereignty over much of the North American continent east of the
Mississippi River (Tax Analysts, 2015). During this time, the British parliament posed many taxes on
the colonists in an effort to decrease the large debt incurred by many years of fighting. Acts such as
the Sugar Act, Currency Act, Stamp Act, Quartering Act, Townshend Act, and the Tea Act, forced the
colonists to pay hefty taxes on a number of goods. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Boston is a peninsula, surrounded by water with one narrow neck that has accesses to the city. The
Heights on Charlestown peninsula and the Heights on Dorchester all played very important roles
during the siege. The shallow waters in the Boston harbor kept the main British battleships out of the
Boston Harbor, and lead to a ship running aground during the battle of Chelsea Creek. This event
produced much needed supplies for the Continental Army. After Gage withdrew all his forces into
Boston, he only had two options for deploying his troops. He would have either had to go through the
neck of Boston, creating a funnel and slowing down movements, or move them across the harbor by
ships. Both options were time consuming and slowed down any offensive the British would take,
giving the Continental Army much needed time to reinforce and fortify positions. While the British
relied on the narrow neck and it s Navy in the harbor to prevent the Continental Army from attacking
the city, the Continental Army relied on its numbers to keep the British Army in Boston. Dorchester
Heights proved to be the decisive factor leading the Continental Army to a victory. The strategic
emplacement of artillery on Dorchester Heights forced the British to surrender once the British
artillery and navy realized they were unable to elevate their

The Assessment Of The Journals For Week 2 3
The assessment of the journals for week 2 3 that I studied had the following strengths and limitations.
The strengths of the experimental designs are: it has randomized controlled and real life studies. Next,
group populations such as women and minorities were used to test their studies. Third, emphasis was
laid on HIV/AIDS, weight loss, or fat intake. Moreover, the strengths outlined with quasi experimental
designs are a part of the pre test and post test in clinics for women and children nutrition. Furthermore,
the population becomes more responsive to fat reduction if someone takes the initiative. According to
Burger (2009), limitations given in the first journal Would people still obey today? said some
participants, more male ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reminder of this film made me realize that this tactic can cause psychological damage and horror
to the persons subjected to such experiments. Second, according to Hoff, Gregorich, Grinstead (2008),
limitations were generalized only to women attending family clinics. Because of use of clinics in the
trial study, an oversample might have occurred with regard to those whose interests were in female
initiated barrier needs. Third, the accuracy of data might have been compromised by reliance on self
reports (pg. 7). This study of limitations showed that women who used or did not use condoms may or
may not have increased safe sex practices with men. Third, experimental design limitation described
by VanWormer, Martinez, Benson, Crain found that generalization of countries may appear to have
differences in sampling approaches. Next, external validity might affect the internal validity of the
conclusion. Afterward, standardized procedures seem to show some difference between countries that
could not control (10). A sampling of surveys found that social economics and psychological factors
were important factors, but bigger contributions such as age, gender, socioeconomic, and education
levels affected the results significantly depending on certain factors. Finally, Vilarruel, Cherry,

Discuss the nature nurture debate in relation to individual development (M1)
Evaluate the nature nurture debate in relation to development of the individual (D1)
Over the course of the last century one of the greatest debates in psychology concerns, the basis of
behaviour, specifically whether behaviour is innate i.e. genetically controlled, or whether it is learnt
through the socio cultural environment. This is often referred to as the Nature vs. Nurture debate.
There are two main arguments on this issue. The Nativist claims that all behaviour is innate believing
that genes control the majority of animal behaviour. On the other hand, the empiricist position
suggests that all behaviour is learned through an individuals cultural ... Show more content on

It has been argued that the propensity towards intellectual plasticity is determined genetically, but that
the environment is what governs the moulding of that plasticity. As such, people who have a genetic
propensity to intelligence and a highly stimulating infancy will become most intelligent, while those
who have a lower genetic propensity to intelligence may still demonstrate high IQ through a highly
structured intervention program. This would explain both Ramey s study, as well as the Devlin
argument, and hence support the concept that there might be both a genetic and an environmental
influence on intelligence.
Naturally there are opposing views, from the Nativists that individual s genetics are determinant in
regards to behaviour, and that indeed certain behaviour and instincts are in fact largely under genetic
control. A prime example of this is the Chomsky s cognitive theory of language. Chomsky s approach
to the study of language emphasizes an innate set of linguistic principles shared by all humans known
as universal grammar. N.Chomsky was the first behaviourist to provide a functional, operant analysis
of language. He proposed that we are born with a brain mechanism he called the language acquisition
device (LAD). This

The Buggy In The Capote Short Summary
4. During the introduction of the characters and setting of the story, the author characterized the old
woman by expressing in his own words, She is small and sprightly, like a bantam hen; but, due to a
long youthful illness, her shoulders are pitifully hunched (Capote 338). As I read this description, I can
understand that the woman is elderly and delicate because of her long time illness, but throughout the
story, I can see that her appearance does not reflect her temperament at all. She has a passion for
adventure unlike most people her age, and it keeps her from recognizing her frail condition.
5. Buddy and his elderly female companion have a unique friendship that might seem considerably
unconventional to others because of their vast age difference. Even though they are generations apart,
they connect through their excitement for making fruitcake every Christmas. The elderly lady
exclaims with excitement, The courthouse bell sounded so cold and clear. And there were no birds
singing; they ve gone to warmer country, yes indeed. Oh, Buddy, stop stuffing biscuit and fetch our
buggy. Help me find my hat. We ve thirty cakes to bake (Capote 1 2). The elderly woman enjoys
sharing her fruitcake making process with her 7 year old cousin, Buddy, and Buddy enjoys the
adventures he experiences when they prepare fruitcake together, hand in hand. They also have the
same aura and vivacious personalities that allows them to obtain an unbreakable relationship.
6. As the short story came to an end, Buddy s best friend died of old age after their last Christmas
together, but their friendship did not die along with her because it is everlasting. For their final
Christmas together, they gave each other handmade kites to show their appreciation for each other.
After she died, Buddy conveyed his sadness by saying, That is why, walking across a school campus
on this particular December morning, I keep searching the sky. As if I expected to see, rather like
hearts, a lost pair of kites hurrying toward heaven (Capote 11). The kites are more than just kites to
Buddy. They are a symbol of their timeless friendship and harmony they will always have, physically
alive or not. He will never forget her, and she will reign in his

Oaths Euphemisms
A euphemism is the substitution of an agreeable or less offensive expression in place of one that may
offend or suggest something unpleasant to the listener;[1] or in the case of doublespeak, to make it
less troublesome for the speaker.[citation needed] It also may be a substitution of a description of
something or someone rather than the name, to avoid revealing secret, holy, or sacred names to the
uninitiated, or to obscure the identity of the subject of a conversation from potential eavesdroppers.
Some euphemisms are intended to be funny.

The common names of illicit drugs, and the plants used to obtain them, often undergo a process
similar to taboo deformation, because new terms are devised in order to discuss them secretly in the
presence of others. This process often occurs in English (e.g. speed or crank for meth). It occurs even
more in Spanish, e.g. the deformation of names for cannabis: mota (lit., something which moves on
the black market), replacing grifa (lit., something coarse to the touch ), replacing marihuana (a female
personal name, María Juana), replacing cañamo (the original Spanish name for the plant, derived from
the Latin genus name Cannabis). All four of these names are still used in various parts of the
Hispanophone world, although cañamo ironically has the least underworld connotation, and is often
used to describe industrial hemp, or legitimate medically prescribed cannabis.
[edit] The Euphemism Treadmill
Euphemisms often evolve over time into taboo words themselves, through a process described by
W.V.O. Quine, and more recently dubbed the euphemism treadmill by Steven Pinker. (cf. Gresham s
Law in economics). This is the well known linguistic process known as pejoration.
Words originally intended as euphemisms may lose their euphemistic value, acquiring the negative
connotations of

Summer Ball Summary
Summer Ball by Mike Lupica is a children s literature story of particular interest and young boys. It
follows a 13 year old boy named Danny Walker. Danny is a basketball player who is attending an elite
basketball camp called Right Way in Maine during the summer. Danny is a very good basketball
player but there is a small problem, he is really small. Now he is going to the camp to find out will his
lack of height prevent him from playing with the big boys.
Danny live in Middletown, Long Island with his parents, Richie and Ali Walker, who have recently
reconciled after a long separation. Danny, like his father before him, is a star basketball player whose
elite travel team won the national championship in their age group, largely behind the skills of Danny
and his friends Will and Ty. But Danny has a serious concern he is very short for his age and since his
father is also less than 5 10 tall, he is unlikely to grow to be as tall as he d like to be a better basketball
player. In the beginning, his height didn t hold him back, but in the past year other boys have been
getting taller and he is having trouble competing. He is also considerably shorter than his close friend,
Tess Hewitt, on whom he has a not so secret crush, but their relationship has cooled since she began
hanging out with a new boy who shares her interest in tennis.
As the summer following his 8th grade year begins, Danny s big concern is his upcoming trip to Right
Way. He knows he should be excited

Talked about the things the company measures for her position; her contribution to revenue or costs.
Based on her performance in 2012, her annual performance is rated B+ and she can get 8% increase in
her year end bonuses.
Then, I went to the promotion issue. I analyzed the marketing strategy of our company; the northern
market should be one of the most important markets in 2013. Therefore, I need to promote a team
leader who can manage the consultant team for northern market. Based on her excellent consultant
skill and knowledge of the logistics industry, she is the best man for this position.
Lilly showed her satisfaction with the result of annual performance evaluation and was pleased with
the chance to be a team leader. But she said she wanted to change to sales department in order to have
more time to take care of her family. Since I know that it could not easy to get more time if being a
sales manager, I didn t consider it as the real reason for her shift. Through conversation, I learned that
the real reason was her personal annual income was less than Han, which made her feel
uncomfortable.
I thought I should focus on the income first. Firstly, shifting to sales department was not a good choice
since the income will decrease. Continue working as the consultant with expected 5 8% annual
income increase. Secondly, I explained that she and Han held different position, their income can t be
compared. Although I cannot tell the specific

How Did Exxel Differentiate Itself From Other Private...
1) What was the key strategy that Navarro pursued from 1991 on to establish Exxel as a leading Latin
American private equity organization? How did Exxel differentiate itself from other private equity
competitors?
Juan Navarro, the former Chairman of Citigroup Capital Investors S.A. (CCI) in Buenos Aires,
founded the Exxel Group in 1991. Due to his family s influential background in Uruguayan and
Argentine political and financial establishments, as well as his own work with the CCI, Navarro was
well connected and highly experienced in the financial and political sectors, and in private equity
itself. The political situation in Latin America at the time was fairly unstable and the launching of the

buyout firms and institutions. This was again for reasons of credibility as it assured both Latin
American and U.S. investors. Furthermore, it opened up more development opportunities for their
portfolio companies, as U.S. investors could transfer their experience from the American market to the
Argentine environment.
Exxel s fund devotion was mainly to invest in buyouts, recapitalizations, privatizations and mergers of
Argentine firms. Each fund was always devoted to a single transaction, which had the advantage of
being very focused on and informed about the transaction itself, as well as all corresponding
circumstances.
To differentiate itself from other private equity groups, Exxel built on Navarro s unique strength: his
ability to originate deals, based on his strong ties with local business community [!], and then to add
value to these enterprises . Exxel also put diligent work in their target selection. To maximize the
success rates, they first picked the most attractive industries, and then chose the best firms within
those industries.
To achieve an even stronger partnership with their portfolio companies, Navarro and his team would
then work on the development of a network of service

Human Alienation and Computational Ecopoetics Essay
Computational Ecopoetics project is centred on human alienation from nature as an underlying
contemporary cultural framework and uses the capacity of the poetic bringing forth to restore us to the
earth and land as our home. Restoring us to the earth is the project of ecopoetics as phenomenological
rather than political frame that constitutes the most direct return to the place of dwelling. The question
is in what respects a poetic computation may be a making (poiesis) of the dwelling place (eco Greek
oikos, the home or place of dwelling).

The technological fix to environmental problems leads to sustainability that frames earth as a
recyclable, renewable, and, ultimately, replaceable resource. Fixing the problem in the sense of
conserving, regenerating, and nourishing the resource base of capitalism. It is no longer an issue of
how to convince people to accept and promote sustainability, but of whether we can and how to
overcome the alienation and reification from nature that had emerged with capitalism,
industrialization, and urbanization? It is critical to consider whether we can ever approach Nature in
an non ideological way or are all attempts to capture Nature, theoretically, poetically or narratively,
nothing more than our own appropriation of it? techné (art/artifice) is opposed to physis (nature), most
fundamentally in terms of causality. The opposition between physis and techné has generated the
traditional divisions we have in Western philosophy among nature and culture. In Heidegger s text,
Being and Time, the concept of being in the world places primary emphasis on equipment rather than
physiology. The understanding of world as a network of interdependent relations at a variety of levels,
conceptualized in human terms, limits our ability to comprehend natural earthliness. All that we will
ever be able to say, or think or experience of supposedly natural phenomena is necessarily situated
within the world. (Heidegger) Heidegger retains a sense of

The Problem Of Complacency Is Really One Of The Major...
Complacency is definitely one of the major reasons realistic training has suffered over the last few
years. Multiple deployments, sometimes to the same area of operations, has fostered a laid back
approach to unit s road to war training. Even rotations to the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC)
incorporated similar scenarios that don t require too much complex thinking on behalf of the unit. In
the last year JRTC has started focusing more on the DATE scenario in preparation for future conflicts.
Units need to develop a training program to fill the gap between RL progression and deployments or

Realistic training should start by researching the enemy we will be facing. Once the capabilities of
your enemy has been defined, planning on how to successfully defeat their technology can be
accomplished. Once a plan is developed units can begin conducting collective training starting with
the classroom and eventually building up to simulators and finally operations in the aircraft. Most
Divisions usually conduct a culminating training event every year, communicating your training
objectives to the ground unit can help to build your unit s proficiency.
Week 5 Discussion Board: Tactics Discuss the importance of realistic tactics training
In the Army we say train as you fight , this concept has been a building block for all soldiers to follow
since basic training. In some units, this concept has been ignored as multiple deployments to the same
theater has brought about a sense of complacency in the ranks. As the focus of the Army is shifting
towards a hybrid threat and we will inevitably be facing a more complex skilled enemy with far better
equipment, our approach to training needs to be re thought.
Leaders at all levels have the responsibility to ensure their subordinates are as prepared as they can be
going into a deployment. An organized training plan consisting of some individual tasks building up to

Introduction
Leadership is an important element of the management function. Leadership involves ability to
integrate human resources and firm s goals. Different situations may warrant different kinds of
leadership. A business leader knows how to motivate people, accomplish goals, and get things done
quickly. Leaders act as middlemen between employees and organization s objectives. Leaders reveal
attributes of courage, creativity, and entrepreneurial energy. Strong leaders are essential to the success
of an organization. To be a successful leader, an individual must be innovative, able to constructive
criticism, and possess power to influence others. Steve Jobs leadership style is quite unique and
influencing. We can see a lot of examples of great business leader in real life. One of them is Steve

Costumes in both of the films show the cheerfulness of the occasion, however, the costume in the first
film is more classical while the costume choice of the second film is full of creativity and
demonstrated energy and intrigue to the audiences. Other than that, the main character Romeo and
Juliet s costumes are carefully chosen and have symbolic meanings in them Romeo wears a knight
costume for his soul of lead , while Juliet wears an angel costume, intimating her innocence and pure
soul at that time. From details like this it is found that in the 1996 film, more meaningful additions

Glial Cells In The Nervous System
What is a glial cell? Glial cell border neurons and provide support for insulation between them. Glial
cells are the most abundant cell types in the central nervous system. Types of glial cells include
oligodendrocytes, astrocytes, ependymal cells, and satellite cells. The glial cells lie between the nerve
cells and encircle the blood vessels. There are at least as many glial cells as there are nerve cells in the
brain. Twenty years ago many scientists believed, glial cells were considered minor players in the
nervous system; even though they outnumber neurons. Glial was thought to work as passive support
cells. Glial cells carried nutrients to and removing wastes from the neurons. While the latter carried
out the critical nervous system functions

How Does Running Impact My Life
Run Forest, Run! is what we hear people say when we run around the community. I really quite enjoy
running on the cross country team for my high school. Running has been a part of who I am for a very
long time. As a little kid I would always like to run around my neighborhood chasing people or just
running for fun. I was just really active as a kid. What really impacted my life was my first year in
middle school. It all started in sixth grade and after sixth grade my passion for running grew. All three
years of running in middle school were a success especially in eighth grade when I qualified for the
state finals. First of all, in sixth grade I attended Gompers Jr. High and I had no idea what sports were

The Effect of Savings Rate in Canada
THE EFFECT OF SAVINGS RATE IN CANADA The impact of savings rate in an economic has
become a very conflicting issue in research and among economist all over the world. This may be due
to the importance of savings generally to the economic growth and development of any nation.
However, the structure of every economy cannot be generalised by a particular economics variation
because various countries have different social security and pension schemes, and different tax
systems, all of which have an effect on disposable income. In addition, the age of a country s
population, the availability and ease of credit, the overall wealth, and cultural and social factors within
a country all affect savings rates within a particular country. Therefore, ... Show more content on

below shows that SAV, PCI and DR had average values of .20366, 35.4638 and 5.4539 respectively
and also had corresponding standard deviations of .024869, 6.4639 and 3.8434. SAV, which had the
lowest mean and deviation from mean, also had a coefficient of variation of .094204 while PCI and
DR had coefficient of variation of .14290 and .76027 respectively. The high coefficient of variation of
DR implies that there is greater dispersion in the variable than in SAV which has the least dispersion.

Essay on The Knightly Code of Loyalty
The Knightly Code of Loyalty is reflected in the modern book Breaking Dawn and the modern movie
A Bug s Life. In Breaking Dawn, loyalty is reflected through Jacob Black who remains loyal to his
wolf pack, the Cullens, Bella, and his true love, Renesmee. Loyalty is the feeling of devotion one
holds for ones country, creed, family, and friends(dictionary.com). It is remaining faithful to what you
believe in. In King Arthurs time, the knights followed strict rules of chivalry, honor, bravery, and
loyalty. Jacob Black is a Quileute Indian who is part of a legend. Jacob is a half human who

knightly acts. Flik is a worker ant who is also clumsy and a very independent thinker

also the Queen. In return, the Queen and the rest of the ant colony is angry with Flik for causing them

Queen and the colony. He proves that he is knightly by fighting for the welfare of all, by serving the
Queen with valor and faith, and by obeying the Queens authority (www.middle ages.org). Flik may be

Methylcyclohexane Synthesis Essay
Discussion: While hydrogen is not normally observed as a functional group, however, one exception
involves free radical substitution through halogenation. This mechanism essentially function by first
initiation step in which the halogenated molecule splits into two halogenated radicals which is
followed by the formation of a hydrocarbon radical. The next step of the radical mechanism,
propagation, involves the hydrocarbon molecule reaction with a halogenated molecule, thus producing
a hydrocarbon halogen (R X) compound, and more halogenation molecule thus allowing the reaction
to continue on to completion. A control mechanism will allow for the prediction of what product will
be obtained from a radical reaction. If random chance of the halogen ... Show more content on

This is once again due the reasoning stated earlier, as in terms of hydrogen reactivity: benzene
aromatic ~ aliphatic tertiary secondary primary. This is based on the reasoning in Hammond s
Postulates that the more stable radical will have a smaller rate determining step and the transition state
will resemble the products more so, thus indicating why it can be considered more stable. The actual
order observed was methylcyclohexane ethylbenzene toluene tert butylbenzene ~ cyclohexane. This
was not the predicted order as methylcyclohexane should have reacted third fastest instead of reacting
first as observed, however, excluding the error of methylcyclohexane the rest of the prediction seem to
line up with the observed results. Since methylcyclohexane was the only contributor to the
misalignment with the predicted and observed indicates that some sort of error occurred in the process
of carrying out the reaction. The source of error is most likely due to the possibility that
methylcyclohexane had the bromine added to it a few seconds prior to being set down and timed for a
reaction. The reasoning behind this is because methylcyclohexane should react fast, however, should
still be slower than ethylbenzne and toluene. Another source of error that was likely a major
contributor was the amount of each compound present in the test tube. If too much of the arene was
added to the test tube a the reaction time will likely be noticeably slower as there will b more product
to brominate. Therefore, it is possible that the methylcyclohexane test tube (#13) had too little of
methylcyclohexane in it. The toluene reaction time at 15 seconds also indicates that this test tube
possibly had too much toluene placed in it, thus leading to a slower observed reaction time. Therefore,
it is unlikely that the initial prediction was wrong due to the reactivity of the

The Brewing Co Of Michigan Breweries
Over the last 20 plus years, there has been a rapidly growing number of craft breweries in the United
States, including the State of Michigan. According to the official State of Michigan Pure Michigan
website (http://www.michigan.org/breweries/), The craft beer craze is sweeping Michigan, making it
fifth in the nation in the number of breweries, microbreweries and brewpubs. The Michigan Beer
Guide (2016), lists 259 different craft brewers in its current issue.
While there seem to be many success stories, there are also examples of Michigan breweries that have
gone out of business. According to Steven R. Reed (2013), Michigan Brewing Co. founder ... took the
Webberville company into bankruptcy this week, seven months after one of 300 plus creditors forced
the auction of his equipment along with brands that had developed a statewide following. As a

micro brewery. This micro brewery was one of the first in Michigan to take advantage of the growing
popularity of the niche, yet suffered an untimely end. Craft breweries can, obviously, fail like any

One of the reputed benefits which have allowed the new craft beer industry to grow and thrive is the

The History of Mail and the Postal System
History of Mail Mail is a system of transporting documents and small packages or even written
messages such as seasonal greetings and other. The first documentation of a mail service is dated back
to Egypt when the pharaohs used carriers to send their decrees of territories. Persia was the first to
have a real postal system which dates to Cyrus the Great at 550 BC. They used stations (Chapar

they could deliver that much faster. 322 185 B.C. India developed there early mail system there

Puerto Rico is an archipelago that is currently a territory of the United States of America with its

world and are also the most well known pre columbian settlement of Borinquen due to the greater
number of archaeological remains and Spanish documents from the era; the period the Taíno people

2. Recommended Model Decision Tree
The recommended decision tree model includes 2 variables : annual income and loans, both of them
are interval variables and represent the original observations. They were chosen for the final model,
because after several trials, they proved to be the key ones in determining the rules within decision
trees.
In terms of missing values, nothing particular had to be done, because decision trees conveniently
handle missing values by default.
As for the splitting criterion, after getting more knowledge about each of the criteria and performing
numerous trials , Gini was chosen, due to its ability to measure the differences between the values of a
frequency distribution.
Presented below is the model assessment graph that represents the misclassification rates at each
number of leaves.
As can be seen from the graph, the model enables to reduce the difference between the training and
actual sets compared to other situations when different settings were used and different variables
included.
Another indicator of this model s usefulness is the lift value graph. The base line represents the
nonexistence of our prediction model, while the intercept of the red line states that with this decision

Personal Statement For Economics
The dynamics of today s constantly evolving world, drawn together by increasingly intertwined
economies and global markets has always intrigued me, ever since I was a young undergraduate. What
fascinated me most about economics was the effort to mathematically model this dynamic driven in
part by human behavior and social tendencies. During my undergraduate study, I got an opportunity to
explore various facets of global markets and got a chance to work on several academic projects to
empirically model economic theories. At the same time, I received the opportunity to intern at Ernst

financial modeling. I realized the power of advanced data ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

four South East Asian economies by programming using statistical software Stata. I used a variety of
techniques including bootstrapping, Generalized Least Square regression as well as a clustered

global financial markets from a macroeconomic perspective. At the same time, it gave me a chance to

During my graduate academic and research experience at Columbia, I developed an inclination
towards quantitative finance, particularly asset pricing theories and the empirics involved in modeling
the same. At the same time, while studying Choice theory and Microeconomics under Professor

economic decision processes of institutions. I developed a curiosity to explore and design innovative

Social Instructivism And Second Language Acquisition
Social constructivism emerged as the dominant theory of learning in the 20th century as it not only
accounts for the cognitive process in constructing knowledge but also the cultural, social, and
collaborative nature of such process.
For more background information on social constructivism, see http://gsi.berkeley.edu/gsi guide
contents/learning theory research/social constructivism/ The impact of the social constructivist theory
was felt across the educational community, including the field of foreign language teaching. The
theories of second language acquisition (SLA) have evolved to reflect the research of learning
processes in general.
Move the paragraph to the beginning???? The reason behind my interest in the latest SLA hypotheses
is my professional and educational background. I have studied linguistics and second language
acquisition and for the past 10 years I ve been teaching English as a second language, English for
academic purposes as well as the Russian language. I have also worked as a language teacher educator
and in curriculum developer. Not only as a language teacher, but as foreign language learner myself, I
have been fascinated by the processes of learning and acquiring language. I try to continuously reflect
on effective ways to teach language and explore different teaching approaches. I am hoping that
revisiting educational theories and exploring the ways these theories are reflected in teaching practices
will better inform my work as a teacher and curriculum developer.
The understanding of second language acquisition has progressed from behaviorist (name theories
here) to constructivist Universal Grammar (Chomsky, year?), language instinct (Pinker, 1995), Input
Hypothesis (Krashen, 1985), Attention Processing model (McLaughlin, 1990, 1987), Explicit and
Implicit models (Ellis, 1994, 1997; Bialystok 1982, 1978, 1990) and, finally, to social constructivist
Interaction hypothesis (Long, 1981) later expanded on by Theresa Pica (year). (and complemented by
the comprehensible output hypothesis (Swain, 1995), Authenticity/Task based instruction (Selinger)
In order to better understand social constructivist theories in SLA, it is important to briefly mention

The Between Self Disclosure And Computer Mediated...
This article explores the difference between self disclosure in Computer Mediated Communication
(CMC) and Face to Face Communication (FTF). More specifically, this article focuses Joseph Walther
s Hyperpersonal Model from 1996, and presents an attributional extension on the model. The article
begins by discussing the presence of self disclosure on the internet, stating that self disclosure is rife in
profiles for online dating and that the average Facebook user discloses approximately 25% of the
standard information that could be disclosed . The article states that while there has been lots of
research articles on the reasons that self disclosure is so prevalent in CMC, such as anonymity and
selective self presentation, they all seem to make the assumption that increased self disclosure in CMC
directly results in increased intimacy. Hence, while research has shown that people disclose more
information in CMC relative to FTF, no one has empirically proven the impact of self disclosure on
intimacy in CMC. The article continues by defining the concepts and theories crucial to understanding
the topic at hand. The disclosure intimacy link is a theory which states that self disclosure is directly
proven to foster intimacy in a relationship (Sternberg,1988). The Hyperpersonal model sets out to
explain the reason why some online relationships tend to be more intimate than FTF relationships
(Parks Floyd, 1996). The Hyperpersonal Model states that CMC can be Hyperpersonal

The Importance Of The English Bill Of Rights Of 1689
Such as the Magna Carta, this had placed limits on the power of the British monarch. England s
Parliament emerged as a force that the king had to depend on to pay for wars and to finance the royal
government. Like the Parliament, the assemblies that developed in the Thirteen Colonies controlled
their colony s funds, and the assemblies had some control over colonial governors. The English Bill of
Rights of 1689 provided another important model for Americans and many thought that the
Constitution also needed a bill of rights. The thinkers and Framers also got many of their ideas from
the European writers of the Enlightenment. James Madison and other architects of the Constitution
were familiar with the work of John Locke and Baron de Montesquieu

Anthropomorphism And Early Learning About Animals Essay
(Un)Real Animals: Anthropomorphism and Early Learning about Animals 1. What are the most
important points of this article? The purpose of this paper is to explain anthropomorphism and its
effect on children s early learning about animals. The term anthropomorphism gives life like or human
characteristics to those who are not human such as an animal or an object. The author s writing will
inform those who are concerned about this current dilemma and their effects on the children s early
learning about animals as well as provide us with our next steps to ensure academic success for our
youth. The proper development of these early young minds is the main purpose of this research and
article. Anthropomorphism plays a crucial part on the child s developing mind. Between the ages of
three and five years old, children become exposed to anthromorphic depictions when beginning to
learn about real life animals. This skewed view of the natural world and how children are taught to
interpret it may be why children become confused when faced with real animals because of the human
qualities are not really present. Throughout the article the author discuses different cross cultural and
experimental studies to show the different ways that children responded to various representations of
animals. For example, a child that has a pet at home may be more likely to tell the difference between
anthromorphism and real life animals as opposed to a child who does not have a pet. Other studies

My Goals For This Class Based On The Sensory And Diangelo...
My goals for this class based on the Sensory and DiAngelo reading were to focus less on grades and
more on understanding of the concepts, the second was to strive for intellectual humility by accepting
what I do not know and being open to the concepts I do not know, my last goal was to learn from my
reactions towards subject material the may have bothered me by journaling or researching more about
the topic. (Sensory DiAngelo, 2012) These goals I set for the class were met at times, but at other
times I feel that I did not meet these goals as well as I intended to. The first goal to focus less on
grades was mostly met. I found myself not caring about the grades, but then when I had trouble with a
concept or I found myself taking longer to understand what was being asked of me in the homework
assignment I began to feel like my mark would suffer or that I would get a really bad mark, and
although I never got a very terrible mark, I did find myself focusing on it too much at times. I found it
was easier to focus less on the grade at the beginning and at the end of the semester, so I just need to
work on managing my stress in the middle of the semester to keep myself from nitpicking my grades.
I did find that when I did have the time to write out notes for the readings or even just having notes in
the margins it helped me understand and my grades then reflected that, so for the future I will have to
remember to keep that in mind. For the second goal, which was to strive

  • 2. Essay on Domestic Terrorism Domestic Terrorism National terrorism has been the focus of attention since September 11. But now domestic terrorism is becoming increasingly common among hate groups across the nation. Domestic terrorism can be defined as visible crime, or street crime. These acts would consist of violent crimes, (acts against people in which injury or death results) property crimes (acts that threaten property held by individuals or the state) and public order crimes. (acts that threaten the general well being of society and challenger accepted moral principles) It can also however be described as political crime, (criminal acts by or against the government for ideological purposes) which would include the 9/11 and the Oklahoma City bombing. ... In turn, people in these deviant groups plan and/or commit violent acts against people, other groups, the government, etc. because they are in those groups. A specific example from the article would be in October 2004 in Tennessee the FBI arrested Demetrius Van Crocker who hated the government and tried to acquire explosives and chemical weapons so that he could blow up a government building. [1] His role was to hate the government, and try to destroy it or hurt it in anyway. Perhaps the concept that would relate to this article the best is deviance. Deviance is behavior that violates the standards of conduct or expectations of a group or society. To our society these domestic terrorist acts and domestic terrorist groups would be considered deviant. They violate the standards of conduct or expectations that we set for our society, by committing acts of terrorism on people, other groups and our nation as a whole. Deviance can tie into the labeling theory which is when the label of being deviant is applied to a person. Furthermore, these people and groups would be seen as pure deviant(s), which means they are perceived as deviant and actually are deviant. This brings us to our last concept, social control, which are the strategies and techniques for preventing deviant behavior in any society. The article describes attempts ... • 3. Relationship Between Economic Growth And Its Determinants The relationship between economic growth and its determinants has been examined extensively. One important issue is whether population leads to employment changes or employment leads to population changes (do jobs follow people or people follow jobs ?). To explain this interdependence between household residential choices and firm location choices, Carlino and Mills (1987) initially developed a simultaneous equations model. Various studies have applied this modeling framework to investigate the interdependence between migration and employment growth or migration, employment growth, and income jointly determined by regional variables such as public land policy (Duffy Deno, 1997, 1998; Eichman et al., 2010; Lewis et al., 2002, Lewis et al., 2003; Lundgren, 2009), natural amenities (Clark and Murphy, 1996; Deller, 2001; Waltert et al., 2011), and land development (Carruthers and Mulligan, 2007). In the Carlino Mills (1987) model, the underlying assumption are that (1) households and firms are spatially mobile, (2) households migrate to maximize their utility from the consumption of private goods and services and use of non market goods (amenities), and (3) firms locate to maximize their profit whose production costs and revenues depend on business conditions, local public services, markets, and supply of inputs. It is relative to time, place, and particular people. Learning about other people can help us to understand ourselves and to be better world citizens. One of the most common ways of studying culture is to focus on the differences within and among cultures. Although their specifics may vary form one culture to another, sociologists refer to those elements or characteristics that can be found in every know society as cultural universals. African American culture is both part of and distinct from American culture. African Americans have contributed literature, agricultural skills, foods, clothing, dance, and language to American culture. There are distinctive patterns of language use among African Americans that arose as creative responses to the hardships imposed on the African American community. Slave owners forced African Americans to create a language that allowed them to communicate effectively with one another. Slaves were not allowed the opportunity to read and write because most slave owners thought they would find a way to buy their freedom if they knew how to read and write. Significant numbers of people still speak some of the Creole languages they used to communicate so many years ago. Agriculture and food is also a unique aspect of African American culture. The Treaty of Paris in 1763 ratified Britain s undisputed control of the seas and shipping trade, as well as its sovereignty over much of the North American continent east of the Mississippi River (Tax Analysts, 2015). During this time, the British parliament posed many taxes on the colonists in an effort to decrease the large debt incurred by many years of fighting. The Heights on Charlestown peninsula and the Heights on Dorchester all played very important roles during the siege. The shallow waters in the Boston harbor kept the main British battleships out of the Boston Harbor, and lead to a ship running aground during the battle of Chelsea Creek. This event produced much needed supplies for the Continental Army. After Gage withdrew all his forces into Boston, he only had two options for deploying his troops. He would have either had to go through the neck of Boston, creating a funnel and slowing down movements, or move them across the harbor by ships. Both options were time consuming and slowed down any offensive the British would take, giving the Continental Army much needed time to reinforce and fortify positions. While the British relied on the narrow neck and it s Navy in the harbor to prevent the Continental Army from attacking the city, the Continental Army relied on its numbers to keep the British Army in Boston. Dorchester Heights proved to be the decisive factor leading the Continental Army to a victory. Discuss the nature nurture debate in relation to individual development (M1) Evaluate the nature nurture debate in relation to development of the individual (D1) Over the course of the last century one of the greatest debates in psychology concerns, the basis of behaviour, specifically whether behaviour is innate i.e. genetically controlled, or whether it is learnt through the socio cultural environment. This is often referred to as the Nature vs. Nurture debate. There are two main arguments on this issue. It has been argued that the propensity towards intellectual plasticity is determined genetically, but that the environment is what governs the moulding of that plasticity. As such, people who have a genetic propensity to intelligence and a highly stimulating infancy will become most intelligent, while those who have a lower genetic propensity to intelligence may still demonstrate high IQ through a highly structured intervention program. This would explain both Ramey s study, as well as the Devlin argument, and hence support the concept that there might be both a genetic and an environmental influence on intelligence. Naturally there are opposing views, from the Nativists that individual s genetics are determinant in regards to behaviour, and that indeed certain behaviour and instincts are in fact largely under genetic control. A prime example of this is the Chomsky s cognitive theory of language. Chomsky s approach to the study of language emphasizes an innate set of linguistic principles shared by all humans known as universal grammar. During the introduction of the characters and setting of the story, the author characterized the old woman by expressing in his own words, She is small and sprightly, like a bantam hen; but, due to a long youthful illness, her shoulders are pitifully hunched (Capote 338). As I read this description, I can understand that the woman is elderly and delicate because of her long time illness, but throughout the story, I can see that her appearance does not reflect her temperament at all. She has a passion for adventure unlike most people her age, and it keeps her from recognizing her frail condition. 5. Buddy and his elderly female companion have a unique friendship that might seem considerably unconventional to others because of their vast age difference. Even though they are generations apart, they connect through their excitement for making fruitcake every Christmas. The elderly lady exclaims with excitement, The courthouse bell sounded so cold and clear. And there were no birds singing; they ve gone to warmer country, yes indeed. Oh, Buddy, stop stuffing biscuit and fetch our buggy. Help me find my hat. We ve thirty cakes to bake (Capote 1 2). The elderly woman enjoys sharing her fruitcake making process with her 7 year old cousin, Buddy, and Buddy enjoys the adventures he experiences when they prepare fruitcake together, hand in hand. They also have the same aura and vivacious personalities that allows them to obtain an unbreakable relationship. 6. As the short story came to an end, Buddy s best friend died of old age after their last Christmas together, but their friendship did not die along with her because it is everlasting. For their final Christmas together, they gave each other handmade kites to show their appreciation for each other. After she died, Buddy conveyed his sadness by saying, That is why, walking across a school campus on this particular December morning, I keep searching the sky. As if I expected to see, rather like hearts, a lost pair of kites hurrying toward heaven (Capote 11). The kites are more than just kites to Buddy. It occurs even more in Spanish, e.g. the deformation of names for cannabis: mota (lit., something which moves on the black market), replacing grifa (lit., something coarse to the touch ), replacing marihuana (a female personal name, María Juana), replacing cañamo (the original Spanish name for the plant, derived from the Latin genus name Cannabis). The glial cells lie between the nerve cells and encircle the blood vessels. There are at least as many glial cells as there are nerve cells in the brain. Twenty years ago many scientists believed, glial cells were considered minor players in the nervous system; even though they outnumber neurons. Glial was thought to work as passive support cells. Glial cells carried nutrients to and removing wastes from the neurons. While the latter carried out the critical nervous system functions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. Methylcyclohexane Synthesis Essay Discussion: While hydrogen is not normally observed as a functional group, however, one exception involves free radical substitution through halogenation. This mechanism essentially function by first initiation step in which the halogenated molecule splits into two halogenated radicals which is followed by the formation of a hydrocarbon radical. The next step of the radical mechanism, propagation, involves the hydrocarbon molecule reaction with a halogenated molecule, thus producing a hydrocarbon halogen (R X) compound, and more halogenation molecule thus allowing the reaction to continue on to completion. A control mechanism will allow for the prediction of what product will be obtained from a radical reaction. If random chance of the halogen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is once again due the reasoning stated earlier, as in terms of hydrogen reactivity: benzene aromatic ~ aliphatic tertiary secondary primary. This is based on the reasoning in Hammond s Postulates that the more stable radical will have a smaller rate determining step and the transition state will resemble the products more so, thus indicating why it can be considered more stable. The actual order observed was methylcyclohexane ethylbenzene toluene tert butylbenzene ~ cyclohexane. This was not the predicted order as methylcyclohexane should have reacted third fastest instead of reacting first as observed, however, excluding the error of methylcyclohexane the rest of the prediction seem to line up with the observed results. Since methylcyclohexane was the only contributor to the misalignment with the predicted and observed indicates that some sort of error occurred in the process of carrying out the reaction. The source of error is most likely due to the possibility that methylcyclohexane had the bromine added to it a few seconds prior to being set down and timed for a reaction. The reasoning behind this is because methylcyclohexane should react fast, however, should still be slower than ethylbenzne and toluene. Another source of error that was likely a major contributor was the amount of each compound present in the test tube. If too much of the arene was added to the test tube a the reaction time will likely be noticeably slower as there will b more product to brominate. Therefore, it is possible that the methylcyclohexane test tube (#13) had too little of methylcyclohexane in it. The toluene reaction time at 15 seconds also indicates that this test tube possibly had too much toluene placed in it, thus leading to a slower observed reaction time. Therefore, it is unlikely that the initial prediction was wrong due to the reactivity of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The theories of second language acquisition (SLA) have evolved to reflect the research of learning processes in general. Move the paragraph to the beginning???? The reason behind my interest in the latest SLA hypotheses is my professional and educational background. I have studied linguistics and second language acquisition and for the past 10 years I ve been teaching English as a second language, English for academic purposes as well as the Russian language. This article explores the difference between self disclosure in Computer Mediated Communication (CMC) and Face to Face Communication (FTF). More specifically, this article focuses Joseph Walther s Hyperpersonal Model from 1996, and presents an attributional extension on the model. The article begins by discussing the presence of self disclosure on the internet, stating that self disclosure is rife in profiles for online dating and that the average Facebook user discloses approximately 25% of the standard information that could be disclosed . The article states that while there has been lots of research articles on the reasons that self disclosure is so prevalent in CMC, such as anonymity and selective self presentation, they all seem to make the assumption that increased self disclosure in CMC directly results in increased intimacy. Hence, while research has shown that people disclose more information in CMC relative to FTF, no one has empirically proven the impact of self disclosure on intimacy in CMC. The article continues by defining the concepts and theories crucial to understanding the topic at hand. The disclosure intimacy link is a theory which states that self disclosure is directly proven to foster intimacy in a relationship (Sternberg,1988). The Hyperpersonal model sets out to explain the reason why some online relationships tend to be more intimate than FTF relationships (Parks Floyd, 1996). For the second goal, which was to strive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
