Analysis Of A Room Of One s Own
A Room of One s Own by Virginia Woolf is a narrative that is based upon the twentieth century
feminist concept. She puts a perspective for readers if William Shakespeare was a women or had a
sister. She thoroughly explains how the lifestyle would be like, the characteristics of the woman, and
how they behaved. She goes into further detail about those qualities in her writing. Woolf s writing is
similar to the character Ophelia in the play written by Shakespeare titled Hamlet . Women back in the
day were treated very differently compared to today, they had no rights. Both of the stories covered
similar topic such as women mistreatment, protective parenting, and acts of madness. Women
mistreatment was a very important aspect when it comes to Shakespeare time. Women were treated
like property, they re reputation was very important one slip up and they would be the talk of town,
and they weren t really allowed to do anything. Their main priorities were to take care of the
household and provide for the husband whenever told to do so. In Woolf s narrative women were not
allowed to have any type of jobs or even reach out for their dreams. In the Rooms of One s Own
Judith was trying to pursue her dream working in the theatre it says ...She had a taste for the theatre.
She stood at the stage door; she wanted to act she said. Men laughed in her face. (page 49 A Room of
One s Own ) . Women were not taken serious when it came to working, men were superior to

Tea Drinking In The 1800s
Tea was declared the National Drink of England in 1784. The eighteenth century saw the
transformation of tea as an everyday necessity for the poor and working class of the British society. To
meet the domestic demand at home, the British East India Company imported great volumes of tea
from China. The tea import increased from an estimated 64 tons in 1711 to 6800 tons in 1791. Even
heavy import tax could not deter an increasingly expanding domestic market for the Chinese tea. As
tea drinking had become obsession with the British society, consumption of tea replaced home brewed
beer, gin, milk and traditional infusions of indigenous plants. This great transformation in the
consumption pattern of British society led to the commodification of

A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry
Lorraine Hansberry s A Raisin in the Sun is a remarkable play written in 1959 by an African American
author about an African American family. This time period was in the early days of the modern
awakening of civil rights awareness. It was a timely play challenging the then current stereotypical
view of a black family by depicting a realistic portrayal of a specific black family with aspirations,
hopes, dreams, dignity, and ambition as would be expected from all families regardless of race. The
play is also timeless because it presents relevant themes of preserving family unity and breaking
through racial stereotypes that still challenge current society. Robin Bernstein s critical analysis
Inventing a Fishbowl: White Supremacy and the Critical Reception of Lorraine Hansberry s A Raisin
in the Sun , cites a reviewer from the Philadelphia Inquirer who asserts that this play is both timely
and timeless. We do not know if Miss Hansberry has written a timeless play ... but she has certainly
written a timely one. (Bernstein 23), furthermore Bernstein cites George Murray noted in the Chicago
American that the play couldn t be better timed for box office success. Its advent coincide with a
rising wave of general interest in the Negro. (Bernstein 23). Bernstein also notes Before long, the
votes swung overwhelmingly in the direction of dubbing A Raisin in the Sun timeless, that is, a
masterpiece. (Bernstein 24). This comment is supported by the fact this play is still

The Amistad Case
The Amistad Case began in April of 1839 when many Africans, including Cinque were captured and
taken to the Lomboko Slave Fortress. While in the Lomboko Slave Fortress Cinque and many others
were sold and loaded onto the Tecora that was sailing to Cuba. In June 1839, Cinque and the others
arrived in Havana, Cuba where they were sold to Jose Ruiz and Pedro Montes. This is where they
loaded the ship by the name of La Amistad. While out to sea in July Cinque is able to escape his
chains and help the others to lead them in an attack on the ship s crew. The Amistad s captain and cook
were killed, two men escaped, leaving Ruiz and Montes on the ship with the raged Africans. Cinque
ordered Montes to steer the ship and take them back to Africa. Montes steered the ship east by day and

The Africans were put on trial for murder and piracy on the Amistad. James Covey, an interpreter, was
located to translate the Africans story. In time the Africans began to learn some of the English
language. Cinque and the others decided to file charges against Ruiz and Montes for assault and false
imprisonment. Judge Andrew T. Judson presided over this case. Judge Judson reported that the capture
of the Africans and selling them into slavery in Cuba was against the 1817 English Spanish treaty.
Judge Judson then decided that the Mende Africans were transported illegally and were to be set free.
Ruiz and Mendes were taken into custody for misrepresenting the origin of the slaves on the Amistad.
Senator John Calhoun felt that if the Amistad captives are freed the South might have to begin the
Civil War 20 years early. The government decided to appeal the case. By September 1839, Lewis
Tappan, a courageous abolitionist, formed the Friend of Amistad Africans Committee. Tappan, a big
supporter of the Africans of the Amistad, helped the Africans receive education and housing, he also

Federal Highway Administration Case Study
The safety of our nation in all aspects should be our number one priority. When that safety is put into
jeopardy in a careless way, the incident tends to be amplified to a high degree. This is what happened
in researching the Federal Highway Administration along with Trinity Industries and what they were
doing to put the safety of the drivers in the U.S. at risk. The Federal Highway Administration is an
agency in the U.S. Department of Transportation that handles and oversees all state and local bodies of
government in their design and maintenance of the highway system in the United States. Their main
priority is making sure that our nation s roads and highways are the safest and most advanced in the
world. The Federal Highway Administration ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of the lies that were covered up just created a trickle down effect. The truth always comes to light,
so they could have prevented all of this from happening. The massive lawsuit could have also been
prevented, and now they have to shell out an absurd amount of money all because they tried to take
the easy way out to save a dollar. The correct path for the Federal Highway Administration to pursue
then would have been to drop Trinity Industries and find someone else when they got wind of them
saving two dollars per guard rail by shaving off one inch from each of them. The correct manner for
Trinity Industries to have conducted themselves in would have been to not be cheap and try to save
that two dollars. I think them trying to save such little money per guard rail basically was them putting
a price tag on the lives of individuals. From a moral standpoint, you never want to see someone

A Brief Note On The Country Of Togo
In the country of Togo, the people who live there generally live more to the South and along the major
North South highway that connects the coast to the Sahel River (State department, 2005). They mainly
speak French, but the people in the South speak either Ewe or Mina (State Department, 2005). The
ones who speak the Ewe language, moved to Togo by crossing the Niger River valley during the 12th
and 14th centuries (State Department, 2005). In the 15th and 16th centuries, Togo was known as The
Slave Coast because over the next 200 years, European explorers traveled there in search for slaves
(State Department, 2005). I believe all of these problems can easily be fixed if the U.S. government

The babies that do survive, however will most likely be taken or given away from their parents/
relatives between the ages of five and fifteen and are forced to go into child trafficking and forced
labor (Fistula Hospital, 2005). Next, the U.S. government should help the children in Togo because
they are being put into child trafficking, they are afraid to go to school, and there are very few people
who are putting up a fight to help them. In Togo, there is an International Day of Missing Children on
Wednesday (5/25) and it is a time to focus attention on the widespread problem of child trafficking
(Togo s missing children, 2005). So far there are over 300,000 children who are missing in Togo due
to them being taken from their families or sometimes given away by them (Togo s missing children,
2005). Child trafficking is a worldwide human rights violation, but Togo has the greatest number of
missing children. The children, who are not taken from their families, are bullied and abused in
school. The teachers rape the girls and if they get pregnant then they are kicked out of school and
forced to go into prostitution. The boys are beaten by their teachers or other classmates and they are
also raped by their teachers. Projects funded by the Department of Labor s Bureau of International
Labor Affairs have helped about one million children worldwide by helping them get out of child
labor or other situations where they are being abused (United

What is the Good Life Essay A popular saying is live life in the moment. People believe that by doing
this, they will live life to their fullest potential, and this will lead to the good life. This is a good
theory, but it is not actually a good idea to life live this way. This is shown by both Herodotus, The
History the story of Solon and Croesus, and by the Mike Webster Sports Injury series by Greg Garber.
In both of the texts, the fictional Croesus, and the real life Mike Webster both lived their lives in the
moment, and they actually provide the most significant horrible warnings to show what is not the good
life. By living in the moment, neither of these two actually thought about the future while they were
living their good lives. If they had thought about the future, and the repercussions that could happen if
their way of life was ended, then they may have been able to avoid the inevitable fall that both of them
faced. Webster and Croesus both lived the good life for a time, and through both of their stories, we
can see that to truly have lived the good life, one must die living it.
While both Webster and Croesus undergo very similar crucibles, there are a few distinct differences
between the texts that complement each other, so by understanding one of the texts more clearly, the
other can be better understood, which in turn, leads to a better understanding of the good life. One of
the main differences

Little Bluestem-Dry Ecosystems
Little Bluestem Dry Mesic also occurs mostly in the Northern half of the park, primarily on the side
slopes of cuestas, seen in Figure #. The elevation of Little Bluestem Dry Mesic varies significantly. It
reaches from almost as low as 1290 feet up to 1335 feet (Keane, 2015). Due to this variance in
elevation, there is slightly more of a difference in soil qualities from higher to lower. The primary soil
type present is Benfield with some Dwight Irwin Complex occurring in the lowest elevations (USDA,
2015). The Benfield soil in this ecosystem is still relatively shallow with the A Horizon reaching a
depth of 10 feet and the next horizon, Bt1 reaching only another 9 feet down. The parent material for
Benfield is pedisediment over residuum weathered from shale, allowing for smaller clay particles to
form. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the Dwight Irwin soil has more of a deeper, moister quality. Benfield and Dwight Irwin soils
do allow for more species richness than other lower elevated ecosystems but due to the drier soils,
Little Bluestem is still the most dominant plant recorded. The dominance of Little Bluestem extends
down to the lowest boundaries of the ecosystem, indicating that the soil conditions do stay relatively
consistent, despite the change in soil type. This allows Little Bluestem to again be the dominant plant
species component. The drier qualities of the upper Benfield soil combine with the slightly moister
qualities of the lower Dwight Irwin soil to give the Dry Mesic classification. These soil moisture
content qualities, the location of this ecosystem along side slopes, and the consistent dominance of the
Little Bluestem plant species allows this ecosystem to be classified as Little Bluestem Dry

Livy s Greed In Rome
From the beginning, Rome has made it known that they are a force to be reckoned with. It is a state
built upon lust, treachery and deceit, but most importantly Rome is founded on the power struggle and
overwhelming amount of greed that inhabits every roman that follows its legacy. Livy makes it clear
to his audience that the Roman soldiers are a force to be reckoned with, even from their earliest
beginnings. Through his tellings of the story of Romulus and Remus, and the Rape and Theft of the
Sabine women, Livy also details the ruthlessness that this greed entails, by quite explicit means. The
first story that Livy introduces sets the scene for Rome, as we are shown the two founding brothers:

Deforestation Problems
Deforestation
Deforestation is a very big problem in our world, that not lot of people are worried about, it s that s
causing many issues in our environment and issues for lots of animals. Deforestation is when people
cut down trees to get wood for building and papermaking, and to burn firewood. They also clear land
for crops to grow and animals to graze. Many animal habitats are suffering because of us humans!
Keep reading to see how many problems deforestation is doing to our woods, jungles, and other places
on our planet earth. The most dramatic impact is a big loss of habitat for millions of species. Eighty
percent of Earth s land animals and plants live in forests, and many cannot survive the deforestation
that destroys their homes. Deforestation also drives climate change in many countries.
Deforestation is a big problem and a good thing at the same time, just mostly a problem. Animals do
loose habitats and their natural resources such as food, homes, and strategies to get pray because of
deforestation. Deforestation occurs in Nigeria,Indonesia , and Brazil, luckily not a lot of it happens in
the U.S.A. The only reasons why it is a good thing is because it makes paper, and furniture, and
people use it as firewood but that s no excuse to cut down many very innocent trees.
If deforestation keeps happening, which it probably will, where do tree frogs go without trees? What
about monkeys? Where do birds lay their nests? What about humans? What about many insects? What
about hunting strategies using trees? What about animals who need to feed on trees? I think you get
my point. Many habitats are affected, the list goes on and on. One tree gives carbon dioxide for four
people in just one day. Thats a lot! Can you imagine losing lots of trees? If one tree supplies oxygen
for four people, why are we still cutting down many trees? Isn t there enough reasons why we shouldn
t cut down trees? If we keep letting all these people do this, can you imagine

Will Cornick In The Psychopaths
Crooked by Nature can never be made straight by education. Insane people cannot be taught to be
sane. It is said that which is crooked cannot be straightened, and what is lacking can t be put back
together. Society today believes that those who are crooked cannot be trusted. So if somebody does a
crooked thing they won t be given a second chance. People who are crooked should be evaluated and
if they truly are insane, then they should be put somewhere. Being educated did not help Will Cornick
make better choices. In eighth grade Will Cornick developed an unprovoked hatred towards his
teacher. Reporters said, Will Cornick: a model student planned murder for 3 years. (Pidd 36). He had a

[Attention] Show of hands, how many of you sing in the shower?
[Credibility/ Why listen to me] Well, I sing in the shower... all the time. In fact, sometimes I don t
even notice I m doing it until I suddenly (and very awkwardly) am reminded of it, because my family

[Why listen] However, you really shouldn t let situations like those deter you from singing in the

[Central idea] You should sing in the shower because the benefits far outweigh the cons. Singing in the

Scarlet Ibis Identity
Identity Hidden in Pride In The Scarlet Ibis, James Hurst uses internal conflicts between Brother s
pride and intentions to demonstrate that actions influenced by pride are an imperfect reflection of one
s identity. Early in the story, the protagonist, Brother, is embarrassed by Doodle, his little brother, who
cannot walk at the age of five. Without letting his parents know, Brother successfully teaches Doodle
to walk. Eventually, Doodle decides to show his parents and everybody rejoices at Doodle s
accomplishment, except Brother, who describes, Doodle told them it was I who taught him to walk, so

When Doodle told them it was I who taught him to walk, Brother is being praised for his actions that
appear to be considerate. However, when the narrator mentions he is a ashamed of having a crippled
brother, Brother s real intentions are revealed. Additionally, the word slave suggests that he is trapped
in a world of pride and is unable to gain freedom. This pride has taken control of Brother s intentions
and is preventing Brother s actual personality to shine through. His intentions are conflicting with his
actions that create a feeling of guilt within him. Later in the story, Brother continues to push Doodle to
learn many new skills. After one day of hard work, including rowing against the water and swimming
until Doodle turns blue, Doodle still fails to meet Brother s expectations. In anger, Brother leaves
Doodle behind, but when Brother realizes his mistake he turns back and finds Doodle dead. This loss
comes over him and he began to weep, ... Doodle! [he] screamed above the pounding storm and threw

The Road To Independence By Joe Hagmann Analysis
From the perspective of a parent, whose primary concern is the wellbeing of their child, some of the
author s points seem valid. However, I find the author, Joe Hagmann, has his tin foil hat on, and the
thought that the entertainment industry is conducting an elaborate scheme to brainwash children, is a
tad further than ridiculous.
To eliminate independence from the equation doesn t seem like a sound idea in my opinion. Yes, for
the most part parents are an excellent force of guidance that can steer a child in the correct direction,
but limited exposure to the media and the un Godly world we live in won t be as useful when they re
old enough to leave the nest. I don t believe that a parent s word will be enough to prepare oneself for
reality. For instance, you can describe to someone how to make a movie with an infinite amount of
detail, but it s trumped by the much simpler option of showing them a movie and learning by example.
Would a 9 year old, like Hagmann s be too young for complete autonomy and control in their life. Yes.
I, however, believe that the road to independence should be gradual, and that parents should have full
authority, and then throw them into the deep end when they re still highly dependent on them.
I view a bad TV show, like the one described by the author, as an excellent opportunity to draw a line
in the sand between right and wrong. Besides, plenty of TV shows exemplify good morals and virtues,
and often when the characters make an horrendous

Response to 13, 1977, 21 by Jonathan Lethem
Alyssa M. Gonzalez
13, 1977, 21
In Jonathan Lethem s personal narrative essay, 13, 1977, 21 , Lethem reflects on when he was 13
years old, in the year 1977, where he watched the film Star Wars 21 times. But the essay is not
actually about the Star Wars film. It is about the way Lethem used going to the movies to remove
himself, or hide from the realities of his life, such as his mother s illness and awkward pre teenage
years.
The first few sentences of Lethem s essay is where he blatantly tells the readers that he s watched Star
Wars twenty one times in four months. He then uses the next three paragraphs to reflect on the
circumstances surrounding his trips to the movie theater in the summer of 1977 and trying to ... Show

The tone could be described as witty, but also nostalgic. Along with reflecting on his trips to the movie
theater, Lethem reflects on his awkward pre teen years, where it was speculated by his parents that he
was gay, and he followed a girl to her ballet class.
I m totally unsure, but I believe Lethem numbered each paragraph to go along with the significance of
numbers in his essay. The title itself, 13, 1977, 21 , begins to make sense once he introduces the events
of 1977, where he watched a film 21 times, at the age of 13. These three numbers are very significant
to him because he thinks of the twenty one times he watched the movie as him maturing, almost like a
Bar Mitzvah, at thirteen years old. Lethem also believed watching the movie twenty times would be
too mechanically round , and that adding the one more time would be more realistic. He also ends the
essay at paragraph twenty one the amount of times he went to see Star Wars.
Lethem s twenty one trips to the movie theater to see Star Wars was not entirely his
fascination with or liking of the movie. He used the Astor Plaza as a hiding place from the gradual
loss of his mother to natural illness, and already absent father. Watching the film so many times in the
summer of 1977 helped Lethem cope with his pre teenage struggles, and he describes it as when he
invented himself in the vacuum collision of

A Complex System Or Context Of Your Choice
Describe a complex system or context of your choice
What is the system you have chosen? Describe some of its qualities
The immune system is a defence mechanism inbuilt in all living organisms comprised of specific
biological processes and structures. Its purpose is to protect against disease using the networks of
cells, tissues and organs that work cohesively for protection. In order to function correctly, the
immune system must be able to detect and distinguish an expansive variety of pathogens that derive
from harmful viruses, bacteria, protozoans, parasites etc. The immune system can be divided into
subsystems including the adaptive immune system and the innate immune system, as well as act as
part of a whole of the organisms body, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Simple systems are ordered, easy to predict and have a best practice application however the immune
system has many unpredictable and erratic factors such as new strains of diseases, unusual cell activity
and resistance to medication which could hinder the effectiveness of the immune system.
Chaotic systems have a novel practice where there is no cause and effect relationship that can be
determined. In the immune system, there is a need to probe for the relationships between disease and
cause which would immediately categorise it as a complex system.
Complicated systems apply good practice, but do not have self evident cause and effect relationships.
The immune system requires adaptive and emergent practices in order to aid in the recovery of
organisms. Applying good practice to the immune system would create a band aid solution as it would
not be a long term, emergent practice as a solution.
Demonstrate your understanding of these terms in the system or context you have chosen to explore
An adaptive system takes on new conditions in response to its environment, which improves overall
value for the system and its components. Organisms are inherently adaptive in nature which can be
seen throughout each line of defense. In the first line of defense, the configuration of cilia changes to
seal heat within the body if the environment and the organism is cold. The second and third lines of
defense can see the

The Pros And Cons Of GMO Products

have been modified to possess a gene that causes the plants to become herbicide resistant. In order for
the plant to become herbicide resistant, either an existing gene has been switched off, or a new gene
has been added to the plant. Currently, Argentina and the United States are the only countries without

Essay On YA
How does YA affect teenagers, adults and their brains?
YA or young adult literature is a topic of many controverses today. Everyone is speaking out about
their opinion on YA. In this essay I want to compare two articles, who give a different opinion. We can
make our own conclusions out of that.
Apparently teen fiction characters like Edward Cullen and Harry Potter can affect teenager s brains. At
a conference called: Emergent Adult Adolescent Literature and Culture, scientists, authors and even
parents had come together to discuss the effect YA from the 21st century can have on the brains of
youngsters. Both articles agree that YA literature has changed but this is something literature does
over time. In 1950 s they talked about boys ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Teenagers are very vulnerable and from neuroscience we know that the part of the brain responsible
for feelings like fear, anxiety and grief isn t fully developed yet. So, as a teenager dark fiction
amplifies the sense of insecurity. But hold your horses! Maureen Johnson does not agree with this at
all.
While dystopia or dark themes in general, seem like a new theme, it actually isn t. There has been
written about before and she argues that books from classical authors like: Shakespeare, Tolstoy... are
as dark or even more dark than current YA literature. It is true that adolescents feel very vulnerable
and are very sensitive to these darker themes.
But Maureen says that these books help teenagers deal with their feelings and even help them relate to
other people . On twitter a the tag: #YAsaves started trending. With this tag young adults or adults
who read YA started to describe how YA literature about dystopia or dark themes helped them! There
are a lot of teenagers who were relieved to finally find something to relate to, to realise that there can
be light at the end of tunnel or to help them deal with certain situations (death, abuse,

Throughout his character arc, Stark struggles with multiple traumatic events, eventually leading to the
development of his PTSD. In Captain America: Civil War, Stark experiences his parents death, and
builds an expensive machine in an attempt to cope with the traumatic event. In Iron Man, Stark is
almost killed, and watches others die because of him. This traumatic event causes PTSD, but by
shutting down the weapons manufacturing side of Stark Industries, he convinces himself that he has
done enough, and his PTSD is subdued. In Avengers, Stark s luck finally runs out and he dies, only to
be brought back to life, and is eventually left alone to deal with his PTSD. The writer s of Iron Man 3

choice to include all three so that his PTSD couldn t be overlooked. The writers also intentionally

Privilege In Healthcare
Healthcare, is it a right or a privilege? The US seems to believe it is a privilege meanwhile, the UK
would believe it is a right. Based on these two outlooks within the different countries who has a more
economically stable healthcare system? The UK government might not have enough money to educate
citizens wanting to be practitioners so this makes the current practitioners in the field only have so
much time to see patients, resulting in longer wait times. Money, time and the lack of UK citizens

Glg 101 Narrative Essay
Lying on the uncomfortable, terrible, backstabbing prison mattress, I am feeling exhausted. I hadn t

unbearable and seems to become more and more horrifying as time goes past. As my cracked lips

remember that unforgettable moment that happened in a split second. I stare at the damp, dirty ceiling
with my heart completely shattered, trying to think of reasons why I should live. The more I think
about the accident, the more distressed I feel.
Three days earlier on a wintery morning. I walked out of my warm apartment, as the cold breeze

Basketball Is An Evolving Game
Basketball is an evolving game, so the rules of the game must evolve with it. It is important that The
National Basketball Association adapt to the changing game styles, because it is your duty as the head
of an organization, to give the best product possible. As the number of games plagued with intentional
fouls increases, the number of fans will decrease. It is your job as the jurisdiction of the NBA, to make
sure that the game does not regress, and that the fans are getting what they want. The solution to the
problem of intentional fouling in the NBA is to give coaches the option of inbounding the ball instead
of taking free throws. Intentional fouling is when a player fouls another player with the intent of
putting them on the free throw line. This is called, The Hack a Shaq technique, because Hall of Fame
player, Shaquille O Neal, was often targeted with intentional fouls. Players are targeted with the Hack
a Shaq technique when they do not shoot free throws efficiently. When a player shoots a low enough
percentage from the free throw line, statistically they will not score as many points as if they were to
shoot from the field. As you can see in the Appendix, seven of the top ten games with the most foul
shots by a single player have been in the last ten years. Hack a Shaq is hurting the game of basketball
because teams are using the strategy more and more. Hack a Shaq creates slow and unentertaining
games, due to the increased number of free throws. Fans of the NBA

Essay On Technology And Technology
Does Technology Actually Make Us Feel More Alone?
When I think about the question of technology and the ability it has to make us feel alone , I think
about myself, my family and my friends. As a millennial, I have grown up in such a technologically
advanced world that it is becoming more and more of a second nature that children at young ages of
10 and 12 are receiving their first cellphone. While time progresses and the need for technology rises,
our society as a whole is slowly starting to lose focus of the true realitcal things in life, such as self
happiness and making valuable friendships. My sole understanding of this issue comes from the
overwhelming growth of technology, specifically social media. As young middle ... Show more

Children are now growing up with a cellphone at hand versus a coloring book or a play set. As
millennials age and the amount of millennials increase, so does the usage of technology. Children are
increasingly losing focus and independence and have started to become so reliant on their cellphones;
it has even gotten to the point that children are using phone applications to finish homework. Also
occurring, is the lack of sleep. Limiting time asleep is a dangerous thing, especially for adolescents
whose brains are still developing. A poll from the Aspen Education Group found that adolescents who
had four or more technological devices in their bedrooms were almost twice as likely to fall asleep in
school and while doing homework. As a result, these children are losing focus on schoolwork.
Eventually this will cause a domino effect: an increase stress level due to being behind in class could
even increase thoughts of suicide which will eventually make you feel alone being behind in class
while everyone else is up to speed. In Jeane W. Tweng s article, Have Smartphones Destroyed a
Generation she states that this feeling of loneliness is swift and significant (Tweng, 17). Because girls
use social media more than boys, the awareness of not being invited to a gathering is obvious. Over
time, these girls and sometimes boys are given additional opportunities to feel excluded and lonely

A Constable Calls by Seamus Heaney
The Constable Calls By Seamus Heaney A Constable Calls is the second in a sequence of six poems
entitled Singing School which concludes Heaney s fourth collection North (1975). The poem is a vivid
description of an incident from the poet s childhood a policeman making an official visit to his father s
farm at Mossbawn to record tillage returns. There is something grotesquely bizarre about an armed
representative of the law travelling by bicycle around the Ulster countryside to record agricultural
statistics. Although the incident is described through the impressionable eyes of a child, we are also
aware of the wiser presence of the adult Heaney. On a broader level the poem accurately records the
sense of resentment and alienation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The new king suppressed Saxon uprisings and introduced Norman customs and institutions into
England. The Book contained an extensive survey of the lands of England in order to establish an
informed basis for taxation. The unpopular survey was given its name because, like the Biblical Day
of Judgement, there could be no appeal against it. There is also an implied allusion to another William,
the Protestant William of Orange, also an intruder, who defeated the Catholic King James and
imposed his rule on Northern Ireland. There is an ironic hint too at Catholic guilt in the allusion to the
Domesday Book. The line Fitted his cap back with two hands echoes the fat black handlegrips of the
opening verse, emphasising the constable s lack of humanity by linking him to his bicycle. The action
also conceals the one hint of his humanity, his slightly sweating hair . The fact that he looked at me as

aware of the crime that has been committed and of his (silent) complicity in it. It could represent an
attempt by the constable to intimidate the boy. On a positive note it could indicate an (unsuccessful)

Non Excludability And Non Rivalrous Consumption
Imagine this: a car with a newly repaired suspension and a recent alignment job on four new tires
driving on a poorly maintained road filled with holes. In the span of ten minutes, the car has driven
over four potholes about half of a foot deep, and the two thousand dollars that were spent on the car
are all wasted in that short drive. Public goods are a large part of our life. The condition of the roads
we drives on and the sidewalk we walk on, the jobs we get, and the house we can afford to live in are
all influenced directly by the public goods. According to Tyler Cowen, professor of Economics at
George Mason University, public goods are anything that has non excludability and non rivalrous
consumption. In other words, it cannot be kept from those who do not contribute and can be used by
multiple people at the same time. In the Atlanta metropolitan area, the distribution of public goods is
on vastly different levels. Because public goods are funded through taxes, the income gap in various
areas of the metropolitan area plays a huge factor in the distribution of the goods. A wealthier region s
tax fund is significantly higher because of the higher price range, especially on everyday goods and
the availability of services. One great example is Milton High School located in North Fulton County
where income averages are in the sixth digit and Banneker High School in South Fulton with a five
digit average. Milton has an above Georgia average in both mathematics and English,

Argumentative Essay On Black Power
Through the mid 1900 s, the black movement began in hopes of creating a better future around a
certain view that was based around social and political aspects. The Black Power movement came
about due to the fact that over the recent years, non violent actions were not combatting racism and
advocators of this movement wanted to start seeing results. The main purpose of this was because
blacks had simple, humane requests to end racism and give everyone equal opportunity. After
researching there was a passage that fit perfectly into describing the overall view of the movement and
how there was a direct controversy.. The controversy over Black Power reflected and perpetuated a
split in the civil rights movement between organizations that maintained that nonviolent methods were
the only way to achieve civil rights goals and those organizations that had become frustrated and were
ready to adopt violence and black separatism . (). When looking at both Stokely Carmichael and Dr.
King s views there can be contrasts on both including some viewing King s view as outdated with
little change and Carmichael as turning their beliefs into a racially integrated society that some did not
agree with.
The black power movement was also known as black nationalism which in other words meant that
there was advocacy for the racial redefinition for African American citizens. The first person who

Love and relationships in modern society means a strong positive emotion of regard and affection. In
my views, it is an intense affectionate concern or an intense sexual desire for another person. It is a
term of endearment and a strong fondness or enthusiasm for something. A stereotypical view of
contemporary love exists, which is based principally on gender, social class and race. In Love
Actually, Huge Grant, who is the prime minister, falls in love with his secretary; Martine McCutcheon.
This contrasts with the stereotype regarding social background, as Huge Grant is of a much higher
status than Martine McCutcheon in the film. The title of the film automatically reveals various types
of love, with the emphasis on actually. I think this suggests that the views of love and relationships
portrayed in the film are the views of contemporary love. In the title of the film, Love Actually, the
word Love is highlighted in bold and is red. Stereotypically, red is the colour of love, which is
probably why this colour was used. The soundtracks for both trailers are very different. The first

Jumpa Lahiri s Interpreter Of Maladies
Interpreter of Maladies is a collection of short stories written by Jumpa Lahiri. From the collection of
stories, the last story, The third and the final continent was especially appealing to me. The story
portrays an Indian man s journey from Calcutta to London and then to America. The most important
aspect of the story is the narration of his arranged marriage with his wife. I believe, by this story the
author portrays the positive side of arrange marriages. First, it is important to see the viewpoint of two
characters towards marriage. For the narrator, an arrange marriage meant something that he had to do
due to social norms. Specifically, when his brother arranged a marriage for him, he thought I regarded
the proposition with neither objection nor enthusiasm. It was a duty expected of me, as it was expected
of every man. (Page 181). In contrast, the wife was pressured to get married by her parents because

wife arrives at the airport, he sees her with saree properly fixed rather than dragging on the floor. By
portraying this the author shows the audience that an arrange marriage between two complete
strangers is not as bad as people imagine. Furthermore, the author shows that lack of communication
between the husband and wife is a common issue for arranged marriages. A best example for this can

Differences Between Evangelical And Liberal And Neo...
OOver the centuries, as some Christians grew more and more doubtful about the possibility of ancient
orthodox beliefs in the contemporary, critical world. Could they preach the old, old story in a new,
new world in which the way of thinking was supposedly more sophisticated than in the early,
medieval or Reformation worlds? Would the modern world accept traditional beliefs like the Trinity,
the unity of Jesus in two natures, the total wickedness of humans and the strict, substitutionary
atonement (Bingham, p. 150)? In the paper I will compare and contrast Evangelical, Liberal, and Neo
Orthodox views as it relates to scriptures. Next in this paper will discuss analyze the strengths and
weaknesses of each of the three movements.
The term evangelical comes from the Greek, meaning the good news or the gospel. the evangelical
faith focuses on the good news of salvation brought to sinners by Jesus Christ. Evangelicals have five
convictions are at the base of the faith of those associated with the movement. First, they believe that
the Bible is the supreme authority for faith and practice. Second, they believe in the essential of new

work of Christ. Fourth, they believe in the pressing need to evangelize the world. Fifth, they believe
that the church is a community of believers in dwelt by the Holy Spirit (Voskuil).

Another threat comes from smaller expeditions that are becoming increasingly common by individuals
and small parties. Antarctica requires careful planning and a series of fail safe rescue procedures if
anyone gets into difficulty. These smaller expeditions sometimes fail to do this adequately and resort
to humanitarian requests for aid from shipping or nearby national bases when they get into difficulty.
In recent years for example a small helicopter (totally unsuitable for the task) crashed into the sea off
the Antarctica Peninsula requiring rescue.
There have so far been no major pollution incidents or losses of life in Antarctica as a result of

Handwriting Recognition Essay
The one feature that got the most attention and strongly influenced its demise was its handwriting
recognition capability. In all message pads, handwriting recognition was the basis of data input to
many of the built in applications and functions. According to Professor Luckie, this handwriting
recognition depends solely on Paragraph International Inc. s Calligrapher recognition engine.
Calligrapher technology was limited by the dictionary of words to which it has access (Luckie, n.d.).
This shows that if you write a word that doesn t exist in the dictionary, then Calligrapher is not going
to recognize it correctly and often suggests funny but incorrect phrases as the user wrote.
Even though the limitation of the Calligrapher recognition partly contributed to the demise of
MessagePad, Apple was able to rescue Newton during the release of the second generation OS
(Newton 2.0 OS). This software brought the MessagePad back to the technology it was intended to be
by introducing the new printed handwriting recognition engine. Professor Luckie, in his website that
documents the evolution of Newton OS describes how the engineers at Apple had developed a letter
by letter handwriting reorganizer that could only recognize printed text (Luckie, n.d.). The printed text
recognizer in OS 2.0 requires no dictionary or handwriting learning period. It only requires separated
printed characters to analyze.
Both handwriting recognition engines were innovative systems that adapted to the

The Most Narcissistic Generation
It is obvious in this self centred society that we have created in this world, that this current generation
is the most narcissistic generation this earth has ever seen. Teens think they can do whatever they
want, and one of these things is that they can ease through life without having to put any effort in what
so ever. Children these days also think that they can wear whatever want from making them look like
a thug with tatts or piercings, another option is not wearing the proper school uniform with socks
down or ties and top buttons not done up properly. The biggest evidence of narcissism in teenagers in
on their phones with social media, because they want the most followers and likes on their profile.
These three reasons make a child feel accepted and social. Children think life is as easy as walking
down the yellow brick road. You cannot let this continue with your child.
The first reason this is the most narcissistic generation we have ever seen is that these kids think life is
a breeze and they can just stroll through it. This is because they are not taught early on enough that
this is not ok and they should wake up now before it is too late. Some evidence for this is in an article
written by Wendy Squires, titled Is this the most narcissistic generation we ve ever seen? , said, They
re the work experience kids expecting to go straight to the corner office. ..... They are staying at home
longer and staying in jobs shorter. Wanting a cool place of their own

Psychoanalytic Criticism Of Catch 22
Reading a narrative from a psychoanalytic perspective can prove to be a sometimes frustrating
experience. Psychoanalysis often disregards the actual texts and verbal context of a piece of literature
in favor of the Freudian and Lacanian ideas, which seek to find encrypted motifs in the depths of
every creation in order to reveal the author s unconscious mind. Nevertheless, the critiques of
psychoanalytic interpretation of literature claim that such interpretations focus on the content of the
text at the expense of the literary form and temporal dimension, which can reduce the literary plots to
lifeless machinations. Furthermore, psychoanalytic interpretation of a text may tell us less about the
author s unconscious mind and more about the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s a gambit even Yossarian might hesitate on. Yossarian s sinthome, which prevents him from losing
his mind completely, can be numerous things. It could be Yossarian s insistence to survive the war in
spite of the constant attempts of nearly everyone around him to kill him. It could be his fight for
human decency in the face of the horror of war. Or, quite possibly, it could be his struggle to prove to
the big Other that he will surmount the catch 22. The war affected Heller more than he was willing to
admit at the beginning of his career; however, the more he wrote, the more he was able to deal with
his demons. As such, the real story of his war trauma slowly unfolded. The war experience left Heller
as a tortured, funny, deeply peculiar human being (Blake, 2011). Heller s sinthome during the war, it
seems, was his writing. His writing is his relief as well. It s his unraveling agent, and in that manner, it
s therapeutic. One of his roommates had brought with him a typewriter, giving a means for Heller s
burning desires to relieve stress through his writing. His distinguished career in writing may very well
have stopped him losing his mind in the harrowing nature of war (Blake, 2011). The best approach to
succeed is to mortify, rule, and put down others, an approach wonderfully exemplified in Captain
Black s never ending attempts to inspire individuals to expend themselves with envy or, as he puts it,

During the performance evaluation before his supposed promotion to the managing director or partner
of the firm, Parson is credited for his good marketing skills, knowledge of the market and product,
aggressiveness in making the deals with clients, his ability to cross sell products to the clients. But he
also got some very negative comments for being judgmental, not being a team player, not being
professional at times. Nasr, though, defended that Parson is still young in MG and needed time to
align himself with the firm s values. Problem Definition Nasr is staring down the barrel on whether to
promote Parson as a Managing Director/Partner of the firm or give him more time. He also did not
want to lose Parson who might leave the firm if he did not get the promotion. Options Nasr has three
ways of coming out of this quagmire: a. Promote Parson and assume that he will get better with time.
b. Hold his promotion till the next evaluation and give him a chance to overcome his shortcomings. c.
Terminate his employment because his work doesn t align with the firm s core values. Evaluation
Criteria: The following criteria should be used to evaluate the options available to make a fair
decision: a. The employee should be result oriented b. He should have good interpersonal skills c. He

To what extent did medical experiments during World War II affect modern medicine? Section 1:
Identification and Evaluation of sources This investigation will explore the question : To what extent
did World War II benefit the medical field? The years 1930 1950 will be the primary focus of this
investigation allowing analysis of the medical experiments and the outcomes the experiments brought
forth. The first source to be evaluated is Frances R. Frankenburg s book Human Medical

Becker Freyseng was part of many experiments in Nazi concentration camps. He conducted research
on how high altitudes would affect humans. He used low pressure chambers to observe how much
pressure people could handle. He did experiments to see how cold temperatures would affect the
human body. They did this to test how they could rewarm people with hypothermia. He even forced
people to drink saltwater in hopes he could find ways to make saltwater a valuable resource for
German soldiers. He killed many people and discovered very little. Joseph Mengele was another
German who conducted many experiments on jews. His largest interest was in genetics. His focus was
to try and create the perfect race as quickly as possible. He tried all sorts of crazy things such as
injecting dye into patients eyes in order to make them blue. In 1943 he became the leader of the
women section in Auschwitz. He got to decide who got to stay and who went to the gas chambers.
Those who stayed got to be part of his medical experiments. His largest interest was in twins. Eva Kor,
who is now a nationally recognized person, has written many books such as Surviving the Angel of
Death and speeches about her encounters with Mengele. Eva Kor and her family were taken to
Auschwitz when she was 10 years old. Her mother was holding on to her and her twin sister in hopes
to protect them. As I looked around, I realized my

Negation As A Stylistic Feature In Joseph Heller s Catch-22
In her article Negation as a Stylistic Feature in Joseph Heller s Catch 22: A Corpus Study , Laura
Hidalgo Downing collects data on, analyzes, and interprets the use of negation in Catch 22. Negation,
she hypothesizes, is used much more frequently by Joseph Heller in his novel than is average for other
modern pieces of American and English literature. In addition, Downing believes that Heller uses
certain types of negation more frequently than other authors, and that this is what makes Catch 22 s
satirical humor stand out so prominently. Overall, Downing s article would be moderately helpful if it
were included in a college textbook on Catch 22. While the article does a fantastic job explaining the
concept of negation where it is present in Catch 22, it does not do much to explain why understanding
negation is necessary for fully comprehending the novel.
In her article, Laura Downing describes her work analyzing negation in Catch 22. A large amount of
the article described the method by which Downing compiled her statistics on the frequency of
negation in Heller s novel. The first thing that Downing had to consider while doing this was what
types of negation were more likely to be used in Catch 22. Such a thing is actually quite difficult to
do, as Catch 22 is a work of fiction. If Downing was analyzing an academic journal, then she could
focus primarily on searching for analytic negation (which uses the term not ), which is most common
in formal texts. On the other

Persuasive Essay On Iraq War
ISIL or the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant has been terrorizing the middle east for some years.
Their terror has been felt all around the world. The senseless killing has been showcased all over the
world in their social media campaign. However, ISIL has shown that when given response they thrive.
Countries have given ISIL millions of dollars in order to save their hostages. America has stood strong
and has not fell to their demands. We must not give into pressure from ISIL and must refrain from
sending American boots on the Syrian and Iraqi ground. Americans should have learned from the war
on Iraq that we must be tentative on entering another foreign war. A war against ISIL could be
America s next dark era of history.
America s invasion of Iraq in 2003 led to many smaller branches of terror groups to form. ISIL
grouped as a small organization who pledged their allegiance to Osama Bin Laden s al Qaeda. In ISIL
s early days it was not a huge organization with swaths of land, it was dedicated in getting U.S. ...

Money that could have gone to improve our education, our roads,or our health care. 1.7 trillion dollars
was spent on a war that we are still fighting. We might not have boots down in Iraq, but we are still
fighting everyday to protect ourselves from terror organizations formed due to our involvement in the
Middle East. The money that we lost is not even the biggest issue.
How could we send our army into another war when we just brought them home. Under President
Barack Obama thousands of troops were brought stateside. How could we rip them from their families
again because we want to engage in another country s war. As Americans we must recognize when we
are needed and when we are not. As of now we need to let the Middle Eastern countries decide what
they want to do with terror cells formed in their countries. As of right now we need to focus on our
domestic issues rather than foreign

  • 2. Analysis Of A Room Of One s Own A Room of One s Own by Virginia Woolf is a narrative that is based upon the twentieth century feminist concept. She puts a perspective for readers if William Shakespeare was a women or had a sister. She thoroughly explains how the lifestyle would be like, the characteristics of the woman, and how they behaved. She goes into further detail about those qualities in her writing. Woolf s writing is similar to the character Ophelia in the play written by Shakespeare titled Hamlet . Women back in the day were treated very differently compared to today, they had no rights. Both of the stories covered similar topic such as women mistreatment, protective parenting, and acts of madness. Women mistreatment was a very important aspect when it comes to Shakespeare time. Women were treated like property, they re reputation was very important one slip up and they would be the talk of town, and they weren t really allowed to do anything. Their main priorities were to take care of the household and provide for the husband whenever told to do so. In Woolf s narrative women were not allowed to have any type of jobs or even reach out for their dreams. In the Rooms of One s Own Judith was trying to pursue her dream working in the theatre it says ...She had a taste for the theatre. She stood at the stage door; she wanted to act she said. • 3. Tea Drinking In The 1800s Tea was declared the National Drink of England in 1784. The eighteenth century saw the transformation of tea as an everyday necessity for the poor and working class of the British society. To meet the domestic demand at home, the British East India Company imported great volumes of tea from China. The tea import increased from an estimated 64 tons in 1711 to 6800 tons in 1791. Even heavy import tax could not deter an increasingly expanding domestic market for the Chinese tea. As tea drinking had become obsession with the British society, consumption of tea replaced home brewed beer, gin, milk and traditional infusions of indigenous plants. This great transformation in the consumption pattern of British society led to the commodification of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry Lorraine Hansberry s A Raisin in the Sun is a remarkable play written in 1959 by an African American author about an African American family. This time period was in the early days of the modern awakening of civil rights awareness. It was a timely play challenging the then current stereotypical view of a black family by depicting a realistic portrayal of a specific black family with aspirations, hopes, dreams, dignity, and ambition as would be expected from all families regardless of race. The play is also timeless because it presents relevant themes of preserving family unity and breaking through racial stereotypes that still challenge current society. Robin Bernstein s critical analysis Inventing a Fishbowl: White Supremacy and the Critical Reception of Lorraine Hansberry s A Raisin in the Sun , cites a reviewer from the Philadelphia Inquirer who asserts that this play is both timely and timeless. We do not know if Miss Hansberry has written a timeless play ... but she has certainly written a timely one. (Bernstein 23), furthermore Bernstein cites George Murray noted in the Chicago American that the play couldn t be better timed for box office success. Its advent coincide with a rising wave of general interest in the Negro. (Bernstein 23). Bernstein also notes Before long, the votes swung overwhelmingly in the direction of dubbing A Raisin in the Sun timeless, that is, a masterpiece. (Bernstein 24). • 5. The Amistad Case The Amistad Case began in April of 1839 when many Africans, including Cinque were captured and taken to the Lomboko Slave Fortress. While in the Lomboko Slave Fortress Cinque and many others were sold and loaded onto the Tecora that was sailing to Cuba. In June 1839, Cinque and the others arrived in Havana, Cuba where they were sold to Jose Ruiz and Pedro Montes. This is where they loaded the ship by the name of La Amistad. While out to sea in July Cinque is able to escape his chains and help the others to lead them in an attack on the ship s crew. The Amistad s captain and cook were killed, two men escaped, leaving Ruiz and Montes on the ship with the raged Africans. Cinque ordered Montes to steer the ship and take them back to Africa. James Covey, an interpreter, was located to translate the Africans story. In time the Africans began to learn some of the English language. Cinque and the others decided to file charges against Ruiz and Montes for assault and false imprisonment. Judge Andrew T. Judson presided over this case. Judge Judson reported that the capture of the Africans and selling them into slavery in Cuba was against the 1817 English Spanish treaty. Judge Judson then decided that the Mende Africans were transported illegally and were to be set free. Ruiz and Mendes were taken into custody for misrepresenting the origin of the slaves on the Amistad. Senator John Calhoun felt that if the Amistad captives are freed the South might have to begin the Civil War 20 years early. The government decided to appeal the case. By September 1839, Lewis Tappan, a courageous abolitionist, formed the Friend of Amistad Africans Committee. When that safety is put into jeopardy in a careless way, the incident tends to be amplified to a high degree. This is what happened in researching the Federal Highway Administration along with Trinity Industries and what they were doing to put the safety of the drivers in the U.S. at risk. The Federal Highway Administration is an agency in the U.S. Department of Transportation that handles and oversees all state and local bodies of government in their design and maintenance of the highway system in the United States. The massive lawsuit could have also been prevented, and now they have to shell out an absurd amount of money all because they tried to take the easy way out to save a dollar. The correct path for the Federal Highway Administration to pursue then would have been to drop Trinity Industries and find someone else when they got wind of them saving two dollars per guard rail by shaving off one inch from each of them. The correct manner for Trinity Industries to have conducted themselves in would have been to not be cheap and try to save that two dollars. I think them trying to save such little money per guard rail basically was them putting a price tag on the lives of individuals. A Brief Note On The Country Of Togo In the country of Togo, the people who live there generally live more to the South and along the major North South highway that connects the coast to the Sahel River (State department, 2005). • 8. Story Of Solon And Mike Webster Sports Injury Series By... Garett Miller IUF 1000 section 234H Pokhrel 27 October, 2015 What is the Good Life Essay A popular saying is live life in the moment. People believe that by doing this, they will live life to their fullest potential, and this will lead to the good life. This is a good theory, but it is not actually a good idea to life live this way. This is shown by both Herodotus, The History the story of Solon and Croesus, and by the Mike Webster Sports Injury series by Greg Garber. In both of the texts, the fictional Croesus, and the real life Mike Webster both lived their lives in the moment, and they actually provide the most significant horrible warnings to show what is not the good life. By living in the moment, neither of these two actually thought about the future while they were living their good lives. If they had thought about the future, and the repercussions that could happen if their way of life was ended, then they may have been able to avoid the inevitable fall that both of them faced. Webster and Croesus both lived the good life for a time, and through both of their stories, we can see that to truly have lived the good life, one must die living it. While both Webster and Croesus undergo very similar crucibles, there are a few distinct differences between the texts that complement each other, so by understanding one of the texts more clearly, the other can be better understood, which in turn, leads to a better understanding of the good life. • 10. Little Bluestem-Dry Ecosystems Little Bluestem Dry Mesic also occurs mostly in the Northern half of the park, primarily on the side slopes of cuestas, seen in Figure #. The elevation of Little Bluestem Dry Mesic varies significantly. It reaches from almost as low as 1290 feet up to 1335 feet (Keane, 2015). Due to this variance in elevation, there is slightly more of a difference in soil qualities from higher to lower. The primary soil type present is Benfield with some Dwight Irwin Complex occurring in the lowest elevations (USDA, 2015). The Benfield soil in this ecosystem is still relatively shallow with the A Horizon reaching a depth of 10 feet and the next horizon, Bt1 reaching only another 9 feet down. The parent material for Benfield is pedisediment over residuum weathered from shale, allowing for smaller clay particles to form. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the Dwight Irwin soil has more of a deeper, moister quality. Benfield and Dwight Irwin soils do allow for more species richness than other lower elevated ecosystems but due to the drier soils, Little Bluestem is still the most dominant plant recorded. The dominance of Little Bluestem extends down to the lowest boundaries of the ecosystem, indicating that the soil conditions do stay relatively consistent, despite the change in soil type. This allows Little Bluestem to again be the dominant plant species component. The drier qualities of the upper Benfield soil combine with the slightly moister qualities of the lower Dwight Irwin soil to give the Dry Mesic classification. These soil moisture content qualities, the location of this ecosystem along side slopes, and the consistent dominance of the Little Bluestem plant species allows this ecosystem to be classified as Little Bluestem Dry ... Deforestation Problems Deforestation Deforestation is a very big problem in our world, that not lot of people are worried about, it s that s causing many issues in our environment and issues for lots of animals. Deforestation is when people cut down trees to get wood for building and papermaking, and to burn firewood. They also clear land for crops to grow and animals to graze. Many animal habitats are suffering because of us humans! Keep reading to see how many problems deforestation is doing to our woods, jungles, and other places on our planet earth. The most dramatic impact is a big loss of habitat for millions of species. Eighty percent of Earth s land animals and plants live in forests, and many cannot survive the deforestation that destroys their homes. Deforestation also drives climate change in many countries. Deforestation is a big problem and a good thing at the same time, just mostly a problem. Animals do loose habitats and their natural resources such as food, homes, and strategies to get pray because of deforestation. Deforestation occurs in Nigeria,Indonesia , and Brazil, luckily not a lot of it happens in the U.S.A. The only reasons why it is a good thing is because it makes paper, and furniture, and people use it as firewood but that s no excuse to cut down many very innocent trees. If deforestation keeps happening, which it probably will, where do tree frogs go without trees? What about monkeys? Where do birds lay their nests? What about humans? What about many insects? What about hunting strategies using trees? What about animals who need to feed on trees? I think you get my point. Many habitats are affected, the list goes on and on. One tree gives carbon dioxide for four people in just one day. Thats a lot! Can you imagine losing lots of trees? If one tree supplies oxygen for four people, why are we still cutting down many trees? Isn t there enough reasons why we shouldn t cut down trees? • 17. The Road To Independence By Joe Hagmann Analysis From the perspective of a parent, whose primary concern is the wellbeing of their child, some of the author s points seem valid. However, I find the author, Joe Hagmann, has his tin foil hat on, and the thought that the entertainment industry is conducting an elaborate scheme to brainwash children, is a tad further than ridiculous. To eliminate independence from the equation doesn t seem like a sound idea in my opinion. Yes, for the most part parents are an excellent force of guidance that can steer a child in the correct direction, but limited exposure to the media and the un Godly world we live in won t be as useful when they re old enough to leave the nest. I don t believe that a parent s word will be enough to prepare oneself for reality. For instance, you can describe to someone how to make a movie with an infinite amount of detail, but it s trumped by the much simpler option of showing them a movie and learning by example. Would a 9 year old, like Hagmann s be too young for complete autonomy and control in their life. Yes. I, however, believe that the road to independence should be gradual, and that parents should have full authority, and then throw them into the deep end when they re still highly dependent on them. Gonzalez 13, 1977, 21 In Jonathan Lethem s personal narrative essay, 13, 1977, 21 , Lethem reflects on when he was 13 years old, in the year 1977, where he watched the film Star Wars 21 times. But the essay is not actually about the Star Wars film. It is about the way Lethem used going to the movies to remove himself, or hide from the realities of his life, such as his mother s illness and awkward pre teenage years. The first few sentences of Lethem s essay is where he blatantly tells the readers that he s watched Star Wars twenty one times in four months. The tone could be described as witty, but also nostalgic. I m totally unsure, but I believe Lethem numbered each paragraph to go along with the significance of numbers in his essay. The title itself, 13, 1977, 21 , begins to make sense once he introduces the events of 1977, where he watched a film 21 times, at the age of 13. These three numbers are very significant to him because he thinks of the twenty one times he watched the movie as him maturing, almost like a Bar Mitzvah, at thirteen years old. Lethem also believed watching the movie twenty times would be too mechanically round , and that adding the one more time would be more realistic. He also ends the essay at paragraph twenty one the amount of times he went to see Star Wars. Lethem s twenty one trips to the movie theater to see Star Wars was not entirely his fascination with or liking of the movie. He used the Astor Plaza as a hiding place from the gradual loss of his mother to natural illness, and already absent father. In this essay I want to compare two articles, who give a different opinion. We can make our own conclusions out of that. Apparently teen fiction characters like Edward Cullen and Harry Potter can affect teenager s brains. At a conference called: Emergent Adult Adolescent Literature and Culture, scientists, authors and even parents had come together to discuss the effect YA from the 21st century can have on the brains of youngsters. It is important that The National Basketball Association adapt to the changing game styles, because it is your duty as the head of an organization, to give the best product possible. As the number of games plagued with intentional fouls increases, the number of fans will decrease. It is your job as the jurisdiction of the NBA, to make sure that the game does not regress, and that the fans are getting what they want. The solution to the problem of intentional fouling in the NBA is to give coaches the option of inbounding the ball instead of taking free throws. Intentional fouling is when a player fouls another player with the intent of putting them on the free throw line. This is called, The Hack a Shaq technique, because Hall of Fame player, Shaquille O Neal, was often targeted with intentional fouls. Players are targeted with the Hack a Shaq technique when they do not shoot free throws efficiently. When a player shoots a low enough percentage from the free throw line, statistically they will not score as many points as if they were to shoot from the field. As you can see in the Appendix, seven of the top ten games with the most foul shots by a single player have been in the last ten years. Children are now growing up with a cellphone at hand versus a coloring book or a play set. As millennials age and the amount of millennials increase, so does the usage of technology. Children are increasingly losing focus and independence and have started to become so reliant on their cellphones; it has even gotten to the point that children are using phone applications to finish homework. Also occurring, is the lack of sleep. Limiting time asleep is a dangerous thing, especially for adolescents whose brains are still developing. A poll from the Aspen Education Group found that adolescents who had four or more technological devices in their bedrooms were almost twice as likely to fall asleep in school and while doing homework. As a result, these children are losing focus on schoolwork. Eventually this will cause a domino effect: an increase stress level due to being behind in class could even increase thoughts of suicide which will eventually make you feel alone being behind in class while everyone else is up to speed. In Jeane W. Tweng s article, Have Smartphones Destroyed a Generation she states that this feeling of loneliness is swift and significant (Tweng, 17). There is also an implied allusion to another William, the Protestant William of Orange, also an intruder, who defeated the Catholic King James and imposed his rule on Northern Ireland. Non Excludability And Non Rivalrous Consumption Imagine this: a car with a newly repaired suspension and a recent alignment job on four new tires driving on a poorly maintained road filled with holes. In the span of ten minutes, the car has driven over four potholes about half of a foot deep, and the two thousand dollars that were spent on the car are all wasted in that short drive. Public goods are a large part of our life. The condition of the roads we drives on and the sidewalk we walk on, the jobs we get, and the house we can afford to live in are all influenced directly by the public goods. According to Tyler Cowen, professor of Economics at George Mason University, public goods are anything that has non excludability and non rivalrous consumption. In other words, it cannot be kept from those who do not contribute and can be used by multiple people at the same time. In the Atlanta metropolitan area, the distribution of public goods is on vastly different levels. Because public goods are funded through taxes, the income gap in various areas of the metropolitan area plays a huge factor in the distribution of the goods. A wealthier region s tax fund is significantly higher because of the higher price range, especially on everyday goods and the availability of services. The Black Power movement came about due to the fact that over the recent years, non violent actions were not combatting racism and advocators of this movement wanted to start seeing results. The main purpose of this was because blacks had simple, humane requests to end racism and give everyone equal opportunity. After researching there was a passage that fit perfectly into describing the overall view of the movement and how there was a direct controversy.. In Love Actually, Huge Grant, who is the prime minister, falls in love with his secretary; Martine McCutcheon. This contrasts with the stereotype regarding social background, as Huge Grant is of a much higher status than Martine McCutcheon in the film. From the collection of stories, the last story, The third and the final continent was especially appealing to me. The story portrays an Indian man s journey from Calcutta to London and then to America. The most important aspect of the story is the narration of his arranged marriage with his wife. I believe, by this story the author portrays the positive side of arrange marriages. First, it is important to see the viewpoint of two characters towards marriage. For the narrator, an arrange marriage meant something that he had to do due to social norms. Specifically, when his brother arranged a marriage for him, he thought I regarded the proposition with neither objection nor enthusiasm. It was a duty expected of me, as it was expected of every man. In all message pads, handwriting recognition was the basis of data input to many of the built in applications and functions. According to Professor Luckie, this handwriting recognition depends solely on Paragraph International Inc. s Calligrapher recognition engine. Calligrapher technology was limited by the dictionary of words to which it has access (Luckie, n.d.). This shows that if you write a word that doesn t exist in the dictionary, then Calligrapher is not going to recognize it correctly and often suggests funny but incorrect phrases as the user wrote. Even though the limitation of the Calligrapher recognition partly contributed to the demise of MessagePad, Apple was able to rescue Newton during the release of the second generation OS (Newton 2.0 OS). This software brought the MessagePad back to the technology it was intended to be by introducing the new printed handwriting recognition engine. Professor Luckie, in his website that documents the evolution of Newton OS describes how the engineers at Apple had developed a letter by letter handwriting reorganizer that could only recognize printed text (Luckie, n.d.). The Most Narcissistic Generation It is obvious in this self centred society that we have created in this world, that this current generation is the most narcissistic generation this earth has ever seen. Teens think they can do whatever they want, and one of these things is that they can ease through life without having to put any effort in what so ever. Children these days also think that they can wear whatever want from making them look like a thug with tatts or piercings, another option is not wearing the proper school uniform with socks down or ties and top buttons not done up properly. • 40. Psychoanalytic Criticism Of Catch 22 Reading a narrative from a psychoanalytic perspective can prove to be a sometimes frustrating experience. Psychoanalysis often disregards the actual texts and verbal context of a piece of literature in favor of the Freudian and Lacanian ideas, which seek to find encrypted motifs in the depths of every creation in order to reveal the author s unconscious mind. Nevertheless, the critiques of psychoanalytic interpretation of literature claim that such interpretations focus on the content of the text at the expense of the literary form and temporal dimension, which can reduce the literary plots to lifeless machinations. Furthermore, psychoanalytic interpretation of a text may tell us less about the author s unconscious mind and more about the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It s a gambit even Yossarian might hesitate on. Yossarian s sinthome, which prevents him from losing his mind completely, can be numerous things. It could be Yossarian s insistence to survive the war in spite of the constant attempts of nearly everyone around him to kill him. It could be his fight for human decency in the face of the horror of war. Or, quite possibly, it could be his struggle to prove to the big Other that he will surmount the catch 22. The war affected Heller more than he was willing to admit at the beginning of his career; however, the more he wrote, the more he was able to deal with his demons. As such, the real story of his war trauma slowly unfolded. The war experience left Heller as a tortured, funny, deeply peculiar human being (Blake, 2011). Heller s sinthome during the war, it seems, was his writing. His writing is his relief as well. It s his unraveling agent, and in that manner, it s therapeutic. One of his roommates had brought with him a typewriter, giving a means for Heller s burning desires to relieve stress through his writing. His distinguished career in writing may very well have stopped him losing his mind in the harrowing nature of war (Blake, 2011). The best approach to succeed is to mortify, rule, and put down others, an approach wonderfully exemplified in Captain Black s never ending attempts to inspire individuals to expend themselves with envy or, as he puts it, eat your ... Nasr, though, defended that Parson is still young in MG and needed time to align himself with the firm s values. He used low pressure chambers to observe how much pressure people could handle. He did experiments to see how cold temperatures would affect the human body. They did this to test how they could rewarm people with hypothermia. He even forced people to drink saltwater in hopes he could find ways to make saltwater a valuable resource for German soldiers. • 44. Negation As A Stylistic Feature In Joseph Heller s Catch-22 In her article Negation as a Stylistic Feature in Joseph Heller s Catch 22: A Corpus Study , Laura Hidalgo Downing collects data on, analyzes, and interprets the use of negation in Catch 22. Negation, she hypothesizes, is used much more frequently by Joseph Heller in his novel than is average for other modern pieces of American and English literature. In addition, Downing believes that Heller uses certain types of negation more frequently than other authors, and that this is what makes Catch 22 s satirical humor stand out so prominently. Overall, Downing s article would be moderately helpful if it were included in a college textbook on Catch 22. While the article does a fantastic job explaining the concept of negation where it is present in Catch 22, it does not do much to explain why understanding negation is necessary for fully comprehending the novel. In her article, Laura Downing describes her work analyzing negation in Catch 22. A large amount of the article described the method by which Downing compiled her statistics on the frequency of negation in Heller s novel. The first thing that Downing had to consider while doing this was what types of negation were more likely to be used in Catch 22. Such a thing is actually quite difficult to do, as Catch 22 is a work of fiction. If Downing was analyzing an academic journal, then she could focus primarily on searching for analytic negation (which uses the term not ), which is most common in formal texts. On the other ... The senseless killing has been showcased all over the world in their social media campaign. However, ISIL has shown that when given response they thrive. Countries have given ISIL millions of dollars in order to save their hostages. America has stood strong and has not fell to their demands. We must not give into pressure from ISIL and must refrain from sending American boots on the Syrian and Iraqi ground. Americans should have learned from the war on Iraq that we must be tentative on entering another foreign war. A war against ISIL could be America s next dark era of history. America s invasion of Iraq in 2003 led to many smaller branches of terror groups to form. ISIL grouped as a small organization who pledged their allegiance to Osama Bin Laden s al Qaeda.
