Tattooing In Today s Society
The negative relationship that exists between age and having a tattoo best exemplifies the complexity
of tattooing s existence in today s society. Tattoos are much more prevalent among individuals of
younger generations than they were among individuals of older generations. This illustrates both
tattooing s growing popularity and its failure to gain full social acceptance. Indeed, tattooing has
become increasingly prevalent since its advancement during the tattoo renaissance. However this
growing popularity appears to have only occurred amongst the youth. Youth have always been
considered the vehicles through which social and cultural change take place. The tattooing
phenomenon has employed the youth to expand its acceptance as well. The commodification

Why Do Bees Have A Sense Of Smell
During the early 1900s, two experiments were performed to determine whether bees have a sense of
smell. Experiment 1 Identical cardboard boxes with removable covers were set up on a table. Each
individual box had a door opening for bees. A dish of sugar water that was scented with a fragrant oil
was placed in one box, and all the other boxes were left empty. After the bees had been exploring the
boxes for many hours, it was evident that the bees could very easily find the fragrant sugar water even
after the boxes had been switched to different places. After the initial training period, clean boxes were
prepared for the bees. No sugar water was used; however, the same fragrant oil was used to scent one
box. Bees continued to buzz around

Examples Of Powerlessness In The Count Of Monte Cristo
In the words of Plato, The measure of a man is what he does with power . In addition, some of our
world leaders use their powers wisely, like using their power to benefit the people and not just
themselves. Other leaders like Kim Jong iI not only use their power to the fullest extent, but they also
abuse their power and not for the good of the people but for their own selfish reasons. For example,
Kim Jong il, the former dictator of North Korea, did not care about his people, especially the poor. He
would starve them and if they were too weak to work he would torture or even kill them. The theme
about power and powerlessness is shown in history and even literature. In the Count of Monte Cristo,
by Alexandre Dumas, the author uses personification ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shortly after the Count reunites Max and Valentine, he sails off into the horizon with Hadee by his
side. When the Count leaves, he leaves Max with a letter telling him about what he has learned
through his life. He told Max about how he thought that he was equal to God and how he thought that
he was doing God s work on Earth. However, throughout his life, the Count learned that no one is
equal to God and that supreme power and wisdom are in the ...hands of God alone... (Dumas 530).
This biblical allusion shows that the Count has now learned that everything is in God s hands and that
God has all of the power. By using biblical allusions it also shows that whenever someone receives a
lot of power they can start to think that they are above everyone else, and that sometimes they can
start to think that they are someone that they really aren t. Furthermore, the Count has seen Valentine
being slowly poisoned by Madame de Villefort so he wants to help her survive. Before the Count
gives Valentine the medicine to make her sleep but appear to be deceased, Valentine is confused about
how the count was able to watch her and know what was happening to her because she hasn t ...seen
[the count] until now (Dumas 423). Valenten decies to trust the count becasue that is her only option.
This literary device helps develop the theme by showing that the Count ,

Goodfellas Movie Essay
Goodfellas is one of the most significant crime movies. As such, this picture addresses the motives
and rationale behind wrongful activities perpetrated by gangsters in a convincing manner. It also
examines practical implications of their moral choices. The movie traces the life of an aspiring
gangster, Henry. At the beginning, he is an ambitious adolescent willing to work for the local mafia.
He succeeds, gradually rises through the ranks, and wins respect from the boss, Paul Cicero. This
protagonist also makes friends with his colleagues James (Henry s personal role model) and Tommy
(who is amiable yet almost sociopathic when offended). Henry absorbs the following two principles as
the main precondition for success in this environment: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

As a consequence, they are continuously resorting to violence, even when it is not necessary. Second,

regular basis, enhances the risks of their activities and causes constant paranoia. Third, their
ostentatious machismo presents some problems regarding Henry s health (alcohol and drugs) and
personal life (infidelity). And the last, but not least, police officers always keep an eye on

Essay about Switzerland
Switzerland
Switzerland is best described by conveying an understanding of its geography, political, economic,
cultural and social environments. The geography of the country has had a significant impact on its
way of life. Switzerland is bordered by Germany in the north, Austria and the Principality of
Liechtenstein in the east, Italy in the south and France in the west. This represents many significant
European cultures converging on Switzerland the German speaking region, the French and the Italian.
Two thirds of the Swiss population lives in the Plateau, between Lake Geneva and Lake Constance, in
30 percent of the country s surface area. There are 450 people to every 1 km2 (1,166 per square mile).

Tasks which do not expressly fall within the province of the Federation are handled at the next lower
level, i.e. by the cantons.
The head of state is the federal president; the post is purely ceremonial and rotates annually among the
members of the Federal Council.
A Federal Council (the executive authority) of seven members elected individually for a four year
term by, but not necessarily from, the two houses of parliament in joint session. After the formation of
the coalition between the four major political parties in 1959 (the so called magic formula), the
Federal Council was made up of two members each from the Social democratic Party, the Radical
Democratic Party and the Christian Democratic Party, as well as one member of the Swiss People s
Party. Following the federal election on October 19th 2003, the distribution of seats in the Federal
Council changed, with the Swiss People s Party increasing its number of seats to two, leaving the
Christian Democratic Party with one seat.
Switzerland is divided into 26 cantons. There are German speaking and French speaking cantons, one
Italian speaking canton and cantons in which both German and French are spoken. In one canton
(Graubünden) German, Italian and Rhaeto Romanic (Rumantsch) are spoken.
Each canton has its own constitution, its government, its parliament, its courts and its laws, though
they must, of course, be compatible with those of the Confederation. The cantons enjoy a great

Farquhar s An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge
An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge had a much unanticipated conclusion, in my opinion. In fact,
after finishing it, I had to revisit everything I thought I knew about what was going on in the story. For
one, I had originally thought that the story was pretty basic plot a tale of a southern well to do planter
s escape from a dreadful fate, which was death by hanging. However the case, it turned out that what I
thought was happening in the story never actually happened. Peyton Farquhar s completely intricate
and valiant escape, which included untying his bonds, evading bullets, swimming to freedom, and
hiking back to the safety of his own home, never occurred. When the military sent him off the bridge
to hang, the rope never broke. Instead the noose held fast, and Farquhar died right there no escape, no
valor. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Farquhar got out of actually fighting in the civil war, because of his social ranking and his wealth. His
embarrassment for doing so along with his insubstantial perception of reality is what tricked him into
running straight into enemy territory, which met him with a terrible fate. After going back and reading
through the story again, I noticed several clues Bierce peppered throughout the great escape to
foreshadow Farquhar s death. For example, Bierce kept mentioning how Farquhar was feeling pain in
his neck and how his mind was getting more and more lost, saying that he had fallen asleep while
walking. Another abnormality I noticed was how the soldiers kept firing shots at Farquhar while he
was escaping, and they never managed to actually shoot him. The shots fired from the weapons are
actually ceremonial after death, and they were fired after Farquhar was

The Political Party At The Democratic Party
Internet Assignment
Political Party Research:
1. I am attracted to the Democratic Party. I took the political party quiz and answered the questions as
honestly as I could. I found the questions to be very interesting and versatile. After viewing my results
I looked into The Green Party some more. I am basically an environmentalist and believe taxes are
affecting the lower classes and something needs to be done about it. I agreed with all of these issues.
2. The top 5 issues are jobs, families, health, education and infrastructure. These have been goals of
the Democratic Party for many years. I believe these are interesting goals and also ones I believe have
issues. There s plenty of room for improvement when it comes to securing family funds, giving jobs to
everyone who qualifies for them, and improving the education we give to our young citizens.
3. When it comes to jobs, the Democratic Party has worked with President Obama to stabilize the
financial system and help prevent a second degree depression. Since the recession 15 million private
sector jobs have become available and the unemployment rate has dropped 5% for the first time in the
last decade. The Democratic Party has also helped expand public options when it comes to education.

I Am A Great Or Horrible Thing
Flooding, depending on how one deals with it, can be a great or awful thing. The day after Houston s
historic flood started with gloomy gray skies, horrendous humidity, and me sitting on the couch
staring blankly at the T.V. The ecstatic voices of each advertisement after advertisement filled my ears.
This was supposed to be a day of excitement and fun but it seemed as if the rain had destroyed those
plans. I was leaving to New York for the summer and wouldn t see my friends for months. Sick and
tired of sitting down half the day, I called them up to see if they had any idea of what we could do to
spend this last day together. They came up with an idea to make the most out of an otherwise terrible
day. In no time they showed up, I was taken away in a car headed towards the bayou.
When we arrived, the water was raging against the banks inching closer and closer to the roadside.
The trees were halfway underwater, not a single living creature in sight, and the sun was hidden
behind a blanket of menacing clouds. As we unmounted the long blue canoes from the truck, we
examined what we were about to do. Our examination didn t take long since we were teenagers we
simply said screw it and decided to jump in the river. Taking turns each of us jumped in the canoe and
canoed up and down the river. Since it was his canoes, Grayson, a short dark bearded guy with an
overconfident air and shorts that were way too short, was first to go. His experience with canoes made

One case in particular that has drawn a lot of controversy is the case of 18 year old Michael Brown.
He was killed August 9, 2014, in Ferguson, Missouri, a northern Suburb of St. Louis. Brown, an 18
year old black man, was fatally shot by Darren Wilson, 28, a white Ferguson police officer. Before the
incident with Darren Wilson Michael Brown was seen with Dorian Johnson at a convenience store
taking multiple packages of cigarillos. Wilson had been notified by police dispatch of the robbery and

The right sandal was approximately 44 feet (13 m) east of the western area. According to Judy
Melinek, a San Francisco pathologist who commented on the case as an expert, the official autopsy,
which stated Brown s hand had foreign matter consistent with a gun discharge on it, supported Wilson
s testimony that Brown was reaching for the weapon.According to the detective who performed tests
on the gun, he had to decide whether to perform a DNA test or dust for fingerprints, because only one
test can be performed without affecting the other. One apparent projectile was found near the body.
There were ten spent .40 caliber bullet cases scattered on the south side of the road near Brown s body.
The distribution of the casings, combined with most of the casings being east of the body, is consistent
with the officer moving backward while firing. Blood spatter approximately 25 feet behind Brown s
body suggest that Brown was moving toward Wilson when he was killed.
They also knew that even according to Wilson, Brown never had sole possession of the gun, and if
Brown ever had control of the gun

Side Effects Of Depressants
Depressants are psychoactive drugs that temporarily diminish the normal function of the brain and
central nervous system (Depressant Drug Abuse and Side Effects, 2017). These drugs include opiates
and opioids, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, tranquilizers, and alcohol. Due to their effects, these drugs
can sometimes be referred to as downers. These drugs come in multicolored tablets and capsules and
sometimes in liquid form. Regular use of any of these drugs can lead to drug tolerance. That means
that the body adjusts to them and it takes a higher and higher dose to achieve the desired effect.
Dependence also can develop from drug use, meaning symptoms of withdraw will occur if the person
discontinues taking the drug all of a sudden. Depressants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Someone who is sleepless and anxious may turn to barbiturates for a desirable effect. However, one of
the reasons that people die on barbiturates is that the dose that will kill a person is not that much more
than the dose that will help them sleep (Barbiturates Effects, 2017). When an individual overdoses on
barbiturates, they can experience side effects such as shallow respiration, clammy skin, a weak and
rapid pulse, and lastly, possibly die from an overdose. Teens may abuse barbiturates so they can
experience the drunken feeling. They may not fully understand that this can be a deadly drug. When
taken in a small dose barbiturates may relieve the individual s anxiety and tension. As they increase
the dose to a somewhat larger dose, in a tranquil setting the drug will induce sleep. In contrast, when
that same large dose is taken in a social setting, however, it can cause effects similar to when a person
is drunk. Barbiturates are primarily used as sedatives for treating insomnia and as anticonvulsants.
When used in high dosages, barbiturates can be used in the operating room as anesthetics. But as
technology progresses and new medicine is introduced, barbiturates is used less now than in the

Man And Evil In Joseph Conrad s Heart Of Darkness
Although the author Joseph Conrad never met the German philosopher Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz,
who died more than a century before Conrad s birth, their distinct philosophies still have numerous
points of intersection, suggesting some fundamental truths within the structure of the human reality.
Through the novella, Heart of Darkness, Conrad details his perspectives on the faults of man and
reality as a whole, with views often coinciding with many of Leibniz s own, as found in his numerous
philosophical works. Consequently, the two perspectives combine together, like a cyclopean image, to
enhance and deepen each of the two men s philosophies on humanity.
Conrad and Leibniz both note that man has an underlying vulnerability to evil. Among Leibniz s many
conceptual principles is that of perfection vs imperfection, as he claims that no being is entirely flawed
or completely ideal (Burnham, n.d.). Rather, all men possess varying magnitudes of perfection, except
God, however, whom Leibniz believes to be the embodiment of infinite perfection (Burnham, n.d.).
Continuing, Leibniz explains that man s limited perfection causes a lack of good, in contrast to just an
unequivocal inherent evil, that consequently allows man the ability to create evil, arguing that evil and
sin are only negations of positive reality, a principle that corresponds heavily with Leibniz s belief in
theodicy, which serves as an attempt to explain and reconcile evil in the world with its creator, a

Effects of Response to Students Reading Intervention Essay
Selected Topic: Educational Changes Regarding Response to Intervention in Wisconsin and its
Implications for Reading Teachers
Ia. Justification for chosen topic based upon both personal and professional experience:
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 2004 (IDEA) in combination with the No Child
Left Behind (NCLB) law are significantly changing the way classroom teachers, reading teachers, and
special education teachers are identifying students needs and delivering instruction. Response to
Intervention (RTI) is becoming the prevailing model for schools in Wisconsin and across the nation to

From a personal standpoint, I have known and worked with many students who have struggled with
reading and other academic tasks, yet not qualified for special education under the current definitions.
A particularly poignant example has been watching the struggles of Suzy, the daughter of one of my
best friends, who is currently a high school freshman. Suzy has an IQ on the low end of the average
range, and has always had significant difficulty with content area classes and any higher level
thinking. She has been tested repeatedly for a learning disabilities diagnosis, but has never qualified
for any services because she has not fallen far enough behind, and her achievement in comparison to
her IQ has been considered adequate. I am interested in how RTI can help students, like Suzy, who
need teaching tailored to their individual needs before they completely fail and lose all interest in
school.
Question 1. What are the significant differences between Response to Intervention and past models for
responding to individual student needs?
RTI differs from the past models for addressing individual student needs in multiple ways. Two of the
most significant differences are the elimination of the discrepancy criterion in diagnosing learning
disabilities in favor of multi level support for all students, and the centrality of culturally responsive
practices (Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, 2010).

Help Aging Adults Cope with the Process Concept of Death
According to the USA QuickFacts (2014) the age of elderly people begins at the age of 65, and the
U.S elderly population comprises of 13.7%. The elderly will outweigh any other aged population and
it is necessary to established resources for the elderly to access. Participants will be encouraged to
establish new relationships with other group members, as well as come to terms with relationships
they once valued.
Purpose and Rationale
The purpose of this group is to help aging adults cope with the process concept of death and coping
with the end of life to which an existential approach will be applied. The everyday aging adult faces
many challenges that have to do with the process of aging, such as loss of certain privileges (e.g.
driving), loss of vision and hearing, loss of friends and family, loss of freedom, just to name a few.
One of the resources to be established is existential group counseling for the elderly. In existential
group counseling, members will explore their purpose and meaning of life.
The World Factbook (2014) states the average life expectancy for males is 76.19 years old, where for
females it is 81.17 years old. As the elderly population increases, resources for the elderly population
appear to be nonexistent when researching for programs or activities. This means people are getting
older and living longer without adequate resources. By 2025, as the U.S. elderly population nearly
doubles, the number of working age adults and children will increase

Self Regulation And Self Regulatory Practices Essay
Self regulation is an important part of an individual s everyday life. From the moment a person wakes
up until the moment they go to sleep, they are engaging in self regulatory practices throughout much
of their day. These self regulatory processes are not only conscious decisions that one makes
throughout a variety of situations, but can become deeply imbedded in an individual s way of life.
Through a social cognitive perspective, one may define self regulation as producing feelings,
thoughts, and actions. These are planned and adapted cyclically in order for one to achieve personal
goals in a changing social and physical environment (Zimmerman, 2010, as cited in Durand Bush,
McNeill, Harding, Dobransky, 2015, p. 257). One must constantly modify their actions in order to
obtain the desired outcome. Self regulation involves looking in retrospect at past actions, evaluating
them, and then choosing current behavior to be consistent with desires. For some, self regulatory
practices have been built over many years throughout one s life and continue to grow. The individual
learns new knowledge and practices that they can incorporate into their lives. Daily actions are
motivated by both internal and external forces. According to Ryan and Deci (2000), there is a very
important difference between intrinsic and extrinsic kinds of motivation. Intrinsic motivation entails
doing something because it is essentially interesting or enjoyable, while extrinsic motivation entails
doing

You have a slate of characters that you can drop onto the field, and they start moving slowly toward

Reality Tv Social Aspects

Media and Society
Paper 1
Social Aspect of Television
Socialization is a fundamental aspect in the life of relatively every human. In the absence of having
the ability or strength to interact socially, we tend to steer away from social norms and isolate
ourselves. One may consider that watching television correlates with the effects of anti socialization
although, one may argue that is not the case. Television is a form of socialization that provides
common ground for people to bond over, allows those lacking a social life to create their own social
word, and provides an environment for conversation.
Taking a look at our society today, television is a dominant way in which humans bond and interact
with one another. According to Susan J. Douglas, Reality TV came to replace, in particular, the lineup
of TV news magazines that had dominated various network schedules in the 1990s. (p. 632). Having a
wider array of reality television gives viewers an immense relationship or connection with the
characters. Douglas then states, ...The structure of the show invites us to empathize with them, judge
them, or both. (p. 633). In this specific quote Douglas is referring to them as the characters in the
reality television shows. Considering we empathize or judge these characters, it gives us a ... Show

A countless amount of individuals in today s society lack social skills and socialization in their lives.
Television allows these individuals a chance at creating their own social worlds. Many individuals
become emotionally attached to characters in specific television shows or series and start to produce
their own friendships and relationships with the characters. As individuals create imaginary
interconnections with characters, they imagine that they obtain legitimate relationships in their lives.
Thus making them feel as if they have a real social

Unspoken Tensions In Trial By Combat
In the storys Trial by Combat and Summer Ball there are parts where unspoken viewpoints influence
the tension within conversations. This is shown between Emily and Mrs. Allens conversation and
Danny s and his dads conversation. Both show how unspoken viewpoints can create tension within the
conversation. In the story Trial by Combat there is tension because Emily knows that Mrs. Allens is
taking her stuff. She is scared to confront her because she knows that she did it. In Trial by Combat it
says Emily had seen someone come out of her room and go down the stairs, and recognized the
visitor. This shows how she knows it was the person who lives right under her and because all the

The Pros And Cons Of Kyoto Protocol
Global warming influences every country in the world adversely. In order to relieve this issue, in
1997, United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) formulated and enacted
Kyoto Protocol in Japan. At the beginning, more than 150 countries joined the conference. After that,
other countries ratified Kyoto Protocol in succession. Until now, there are about 192 countries have
already ratified the protocol. The United States, however, chose to drop out in 2001 after becoming
one of the participants for four years. (Cable News Network Library, 2017) Drawbacks of Kyoto
Protocol and negative impacts on the economy are two main reasons why the United States dropped
out.
Kyoto Protocol is an agreement that forces all the signatory countries to make great efforts to relieve
global warming. It is widely accepted that greenhouse gases are able to heat earth since they can
prevent heat from escaping from the atmosphere, a reasonable amount of greenhouse gases is needed
to keep the earth warm at a constant and comfortable level, but the overabundance of those gases can
influence earth adversely and thus increase the temperature beyond desirable level. Kyoto Protocol is
aimed at solving this kind of problem. Therefore, we can say that Kyoto Protocol is an international
treaty among industrialized nations that sets mandatory limits on greenhouse gas emissions. (Rouse,
M., 2013) The countries who ratified the protocol will be a member of the United Nations Framework

Social Mobility In The Medieval And Renaissance Time Period
Throughout early British literature and history, there has been a gradual change in social class. In the
Anglo Norman time period, feudalism was in place which did not allow much movement among the
classes. However, that is not the case in the Medieval and Renaissance time period. During these
times, there were factors that played a part in allowing social mobility to take place. In the duration of
the Anglo Norman, Medieval, and Renaissance eras the options of social mobility changed
dramatically and possessed more alternative options people in these eras. During the Anglo Norman
time period there was not a chance for people to truly move through the social classes. Everyone was

This poem explains how one knight s dedication to his king lead him to be respected and praised more
among his fellow knights. Sir Gawain is part of the upper class due to his relation to King Arthur, Take
care young cousin... (The Pearl Poet 372). Attributable to this, he did not truly move up in class when
he became a knight, but he was given a position and was most likely respected more than he might be
if he did not become a knight. However, after he accepted the Green Knight s challenge in Arthur s
place, he managed to move up among his own class. Near the end, the Green Knight tells Sir Gawain,
you re by the far the most faultless fellow on earth ... In good faith, so is Gawain, amongst gallant
knights (The Pearl Poet 2363 2365). Only after he agreed to sacrifice himself for his king and his
honor did he get the recognition that a reader would expect a knight to receive. However, it shows the

Tarantino s Pulp Fiction
Pulp Fiction is a movie that almost everyone today has seen during it theater run or at home on DVD
or Netflix. However, it can be a complicated movie to understand if one is only looking for a straight
narrative. Pulp fiction seems to have multiple plots being told almost simultaneously creating an aura
of confusion for the ones not paying close attention. Some will say it is about two hit men or a boxer,
but actually there is no set story behind the film. The whole purpose of the film was to parody every
type of film movement created.
Tarantino s film included all types of film movement ever created; however, his film had no story.
Maybe this was done to show that by applying some of the rules from each movement, a director can

Other aspects of the film such as mise en scene also make the film s meaning. Tarantino also used his
film to define social themes, especially through the use of the mise en scene. Specifically, in the scene
where the young Butch is about to receive his father s gold watch, he is watching a show that can be
considered racist showing the upbringing and themes of the past. Another example, is when Jules and
Vincent take Marvin s body to Jimmie s house. Jimmie s reaction is actually very surrealistic. In other
words, the incident manages to rekindle the racial stereotypes that were lurking in Jimmie s
subconscious. Jimmie says a swear word that can be offensive without even thinking twice about what
he has said, especially in front of his African American friend, Jules. Normally, in most movies and
real life situations this would not be tolerated and would cause an issue. Tarantino also makes many
references to television shows throughout his film. This gives his film a Post Modernist style,
however, it can also be used as a social commentary on the importance of television to modern day
society. Additionally, Tarantino seems to have based his characters on different characters from the
earlier styles of cinema. For

Indigenous Education And Bilingual Education
By the late 70s, the government had moved towards a hybrid system of having bilingual educators use
indigenous language in primary schools to teach the national Spanish based curriculum with Spanish
materials (Hamel, Indigenous Education 275). After failing once again to produce positive educational
outcomes, the government moved to a bilingual and bicultural model in the 80s, then an intercultural
one in the 90s that is still in use today (Hamel, Indigenous Education 275). In 1991, the Mexican
constitution was amended to explicitly recognize indigenous rights for the first time by promising to
protect and promote the development of [indigenous] languages [and] cultures (Hamel, Indigenous
Education 276). This right was further elaborated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A study on bilingualism and income found some negative correlation between speaking an indigenous
language and income. On average, male monolingual Spanish speakers earn 23% more than bilinguals
and monolingual speakers of indigenous languages, with no significant difference between the income
levels of the last two groups (Chiswick, Patrinos, and Hurst 350). Effects were more pronounced in
their female counterparts: monolingual female Spanish speakers earned about 28% more than
bilinguals who, in turn, earned 25% more than monolingual indigenous language speakers (Chiswick,
Patrinos, and Hurst 350). However, there is no indication that learning an indigenous language was the
cause for this disparity. In fact, class was a much better predictor of income and success than language
of education (Chiswick, Patrinos, and Hurst 364). Still, indigenous parents often believe that formally
learning an indigenous language will not give their children a competitive edge in the modern
economy (Chiswick, Patrinos, and Hurst 364). Specifically, they point to the fact that, when given the
chance to send their children to bilingual institutions, the majority of non indigenous people including
many bilingual teachers and activists for indigenous language education send their children to schools
that teach English or French (Garcia, Politics 79). Yet, these arguments made by indigenous parents
are often discredited by activists, who attribute the reluctance to participate in bilingual programs to
the fact that the parents themselves are uneducated and do not know what is best for themselves, their
children, and their communities (Garcia, Politics

Breakdown may occur for a number of reasons including nurses removing the human aspect from the
relationship as a result of being overly reliant on online health information. This over reliance can
thereby lead to a decrease in the nurse s communication, openness, and focus on the patient. As a
result, it will be my job as a Registered Nurse (RN) to prevent this breakdown by spending less time
searching for information and more time focusing on the patient and his or her health needs.
Moreover, when searching for relevant information to use within the practice setting, nurses and other
healthcare providers are subject to the filter bubble. This concept involves the Internet filtering
information to suit one s personality as a result of storing what someone has reviewed in the past and
drawing on these characteristics in future searches (Badenocha, Perez Gaxiola, 2015). I personally do
not see any positive aspects associated with filter bubbles. I see them as an invasion of personal

biased information. Therefore, as a RN I must be aware of this filter bubble so that I can complete a

The Big Man And Chiefdom Societies In New Guinea
In the big man and chiefdom societies, gift giving is sometimes used as a means of attack to gain

The Man In The Dead Machine Summary
In the poem The Man in the Dead Machine, Donald Hall uses vivid imagery and alternative scenarios
to emphasize the sheer overwhelming specter of death that loomed over those serving in the greatest
conflict known to man. The hook that Hall uses to initially provoke the readers interest is the
mentioning of the Grumman Hellcat, a fighter plane used by Americans in World War II. Specifying
the model of the fighter plane allows the reader to be knowledgeable about the setting of the poem.
The meaning of this poem focuses on the destructivity wartime causes on the life of those in service.
The main focal point Hall emphasizes throughout his poem is the uncertainty of life and death.
However, other important targets of this poem are suicide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout this poem there are multiple ways Hall connects the poem to its core meaning. Located
within the title, the word dead is used to describe the machine. Being dead is the ultimate end of a life
and that uncertainty of death sparks fear among many people. The inclusion of this certain word is
used to set the tone of the poem as dark and gloomy and obtain the readers interest. Another method
used by Hall to convey the theme of death was through imagery. The entire second stanza is a
description of the pilot s skeleton strapped within the crashed plane. Having such a graphic image
portrayed, Hall is able to essentially shock his reader with the gruesomeness that death produces. One
of the last things the reader may decipher from this poem is that life, just like war, is a trap. Within the
third stanza, the pilot is said to be taking a train to work and is held/ by the firm webbing of the train.
The webbing infers that the pilot, although not trapped in his plane, is trapped in the roles put forth by
society. Throughout Halls poem, many different ideas and topics can be deduced but the uncertainty of
life and death stands out as the main focal point. To emphasize the fragileness of life and death, Hall
begins the poem with a story of death and in the last stanza switches his perspective to the possible life
the pilot could have had if he survived. A topic vaguely brought up in this poem would be

Essay On Cabernet Sauvignon
Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the world s most widely recognized red wine grape varieties. It is grown
in nearly every major wine producing country among a diverse spectrum of climates from Canada s
Okanagan Valley to Lebanon s Beqaa Valley. Cabernet Sauvignon became internationally recognized
through its prominence in Bordeaux wines where it is often blended with other red grape varieties
such as Merlot and Cabernet Franc. From France the grape spread through Europe and to the New
World wine regions where it found new homes in California and New Zealand where it is now highly
regarded as Hawks Bay s top wines. For most of the 20th century, it was the world s most widely

In 1867 the Phylloxera plague struck Europe and almost wiped out all the vineyards in Europe. The
Carmenere vines were the most severely struck and for a very long time it was thought that the variety
was extinct. Since then Carmenere has been to difficult and too much of a risk to replant in many
places in Europe.
Far from being extinct, in recent years Carmenere has been discovered to be thriving in several areas
outside of France. In South America, mainly Chile, growers almost inadvertently preserved the grape
variety during the last 150 years, due largely to its similarity to Merlot.
Cuttings from the Carmenere grape were imported by Chilean growers from Bordeaux in France
during the 19th century. They modelled their wineries after those in France and in the 1850s cuttings
from Bordeaux, which included the Carmenere grape, were planted in the valleys around Santiago.
Thanks to Chile s minimal rainfall and moderate temperatures during the growing season and the
protection of the countries natural boundaries, growers produced healthier crops of Carmenere and
there was no spread of phylloxera, or any other decease. During most of the 20th century Carmenere
was inadvertently collected and processed together with Merlot grapes giving Chilean Merlot
markedly different properties to those of Merlot produced

Analysis Of The Article No Women No War
Stephanie Knowles
2/10/2015
Article Summary
(No Women No war) The article No women no war was written by Pasi Loman , a post graduate
student from university of Nottingham. Loman discusses about the role of Greek women in defending
their cities and communities. The author attempts to clarify the assumptions made by modern scholars
or authors that women did not play a part in foreign military campaigns i.e. war. Loman discusses
about Greek women and their views, emotion and reaction based on warfare, the impossible existence
of amazons. The reason for the author making this an argument is because of misjudgment even thou
women have had an active role in war. The only side shown by most researchers is when, women are
either rejoicing for the victory of their soldiers or the mourning for their country. But the authors
makes a point to look at the facts about Greek women and if they have been credited enough for their
participation and support in war. Loman compares the contrasts the research done by other authors
like Plutarch who states that Spartan women were hard cored when it came to war it was a do or die
deal for them they were not very pleased with their sons if they came home defeated some women
would kill their sons instead of accepting defeat. They underwent physical training to learn how to
protect them self and their cities.

Religious Conflicts in The Song of Roland
The French epic, The Song of Roland, relates the conflicts between Christians and Muslims in 778
A.D. In it, Charlemagne and his men, weary in their seventh year of battle against pagan forces in
Spain, have captured every heathen stronghold but the kingdom of Saragossa, held by the Muslim
king Marsile. Terrified of the might of Charlemagne s army, Marsile promises treasures, hostages and
his conversion to Christianity if the Franks will go back to France. However, Marsile has no intention
of surrendering and wants only for Charlemagne to end his siege of the city and get out of Spain.
Charlemagne does not trust Marsile but nevertheless accepts the proposal despite his nephew, Roland
s, objections. Roland nominates his stepfather, Ganelon, as a messenger to go back to Marsile s court.
Ganelon initially protests but is forced to accept the dangerous commission. He fears that he ll die in
the hands of the bloodthirsty pagans and publicly vows that, As long as I live, I shall have no love for
[Roland] (Song 39). Ganelon has long been jealous of Roland, and on his diplomatic mission he finds
an opportunity for revenge. Ganelon advises Marsile that the only way to make Charlemagne leave
Spain forever is to bring about Roland s death. Roland is Charlemagne s right hand in warfare;

use of pathos, connecting to the audience s feelings when he acknowledges their fear of competing
against the government. Comparably, Murrow also persuades his own audience by directly calling
upon their efforts to see the importance of knowledge: let us exalt the importance of ideas and
information. Murrow has a confident tone that is utilized to coerce the audience into thinking that
information is something that is crucial to a part of their everyday

The Darfur Crisis Essay
Introduction The Responsibility to Protect (R2P) is a concept that has its roots in the philosophy of
Human Security . Human Security can be defined as focusing on the individual human being as the
referent object of security as distinct from the nation state. R2P and Human Security have gathered
impetus in the international community both in academic and policy spheres with a view to these
concepts being justifiers for humanitarian intervention.
Taking realism as the security argument that deals directly with state security, it is accepted that nation
states have valid concerns in protecting their borders and populations within from external threats, be
they military force or manifestations of problems stemming from ... Show more content on

A Brief History of R2P in Policy
Before relating the R2P to the Darfur Crisis it is important to understand the fundamental tenants of
the R2P debate in relation to humanitarian intervention and the repercussions for state sovereignty.
The R2P concept can trace its modern origin to the address given by former UN Secretary General
Kofi Annan, to the General Assembly in 1999 putting forward the challenge of preventing another
Rwanda.
In response to this challenge the Canadian Government sponsored the foundation of the International
Commission on Intervention and State Sovereignty (ICISS) in 2000 . Its report The Responsibility to
Protect was released the following year. The report outlines that the main message of R2P is that
sovereignty entails responsibility. Responsibility to protect its citizens from genocide and other gross
violations of human rights . Should any particular nation fail to uphold these protections, then under
the R2P concept responsibility devolves to the international community .
This of course comes with a significant moral weight. The R2P report from the ICISS effectively
changed the conceptual thinking from Humanitarian Intervention to Responsibility to Protect
effectively

Essay on Theories of Personality
Introversion has the greatest chance of negatively affecting SLA. Students that are afraid of
embarrassing themselves by speaking incorrectly or by not being able to speak at all may try to avoid
opportunities that would otherwise aid their learning (Zhang, 2008). Since 1960, personality has
emerged as major field of specialization among doctoral candidates (Vance Macphail, 1964). Many
investigations have been accomplished followed by literature on a variety of theories of personality.
The importance on individual differences and distinctiveness of the individual are the most frequent
features of the study of personality. There is a guarantee that each person s profile is different from
that of another person and thus, each person ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The study can merely be called systematic and scientific when it concerned unbiased observations that
are quantified so that systematic analyses can be performed (Allen, 1990). Dworkin and Kihlstrom
(1978) underlined that the prediction of behavior will be improved by the use of personality tests. In
line with this, many personality inventories with certain extent of reliability and validity have been
developed to aid in the study of personality.
There are essentially two forms of personality tests that can be found in the literature. One of it is
named projective test, allowing an extensive variety of freedom in making response, whereby the test
items are more unstructured, vague or open ended. Example of this is the Rorscharch Technique
(1951). In the meantime another form of test is called the objective test. Objective tests are extremely
structured paper and pencil questionnaires such as true/false or multiple choices, each of which can be
scored with a key. Sidek personality Inventory is one case of an objective test. As objective tests are
highly structured and scientific, they are higher in validity and reliability compared to projective tests.
Allport (1936) was the first one who considered the conception of traits as the origin of his theory of
personality. Nevertheless, different psychologists have developed different list of essential traits and
different measurement

Alliteration In Hard Rock Returns To Prison
Knight s experience in life lends a unique hand about his work that makes it worthwhile. His
experienced a lack of education, yet he rises to become a great poet. He was surrounded by dying in
the war, but drugs resurrected him. His hope died in 1960 when he received a prison sentence, but,
poetry brought him back to life. Even in his words about himself describing himself as poetic, the
author uses various techniques to bring Hard Rock Returns to Prison alive. One of the methods he
uses in writing is alliteration, by using the repetition of Hard Rock s name throughout the poem,
persuading the reader not to forget, about the mistreatment of a human being, almost to the point of
having to remember that Hard Rock was indeed a prisoner. Imagery was another device used in
Knight s writing. He uses the image of a stallion preparing to be let loose from a cage only to find the
stallion is already free. He uses the first person as the main speaker of the narrative as the other
prisoners who admired the hero/prisoner. As well as, jargon used by the black prisoners, for instance,
Hard Rock! Man, that s one crazy nigger. (p.261) Although Knight s mood in the piece is grim, he still
adds a humorous side to the poem, for example, The testing came, to see if Hard Rock was tame/A
hillbilly called him a black son of a bitch/And didn t lose his teeth, a screw who knew Hard
Rock/From before shook him down and barked in his face/And Hard Rock did nothing/ Just grinned
and looked

The United States Export Import Bank
The United States Export Import Bank: Should Congress Reauthorize It? The Export Import Bank of
the United States just lapsed for the first time in over 80 years on June 30, 2015. The primary activity
of the Export Import Bank is to provide export subsidies to buyers and sellers of U.S. exports. Its
ultimate goal is to shift global market share to U.S. based corporations and away from corporations
headquartered in other countries so as to boost the U.S. economy as a player on the global scale. The
purpose of this paper is to determine the economic effectiveness and impact of the Bank and to discuss
the implications for the global, national and local economy should the Bank fail to be reauthorized by
Congress and permanently expire. Background Objectives Established in 1934 by President Franklin
D. Roosevelt as a part of his New Deal stimulus package , the Export Import (Ex Im) Bank of the
United States, a small federal government agency, is the official Export Credit Authority (ECA) for
the United States. Today, the Ex Im Bank is responsible for assistance in financing the export of U.S.
goods and services to international markets. The Bank s mission statement says that its activities help
to maintain and create U.S. jobs and contribute to a stronger national economy. Driven by market
demand, the Ex Im Bank seeks to provide financing for foreign export projects when the private sector
is unwilling or unable to do so typically in the case of U.S. small and

Should Organizations Fear Websites Where Consumers Post...
Should organizations fear websites where consumers post negative or uncomplimentary messages
about products or services?
I would not use the word fear; however, organizations and consumers should be cognizant of such
websites and the impact that the sites can have on any type of business.
Give an example of a corporate website where negative and/or uncomplimentary messages have been
posted.
The importance of relying on scholarly peer reviewed articles and journals become clearer with each
passing day; it is difficult to discern fact from fiction.
According to reports, Amy s Baking Company (ABC) displayed a classic meltdown after finding itself
the topic of ridicule following an episode of a renowned television show titled Gordon Ramsay s
Kitchen Nightmares (SEJ, 2014). Tepper (2013) shared with readers that during the show, the owners
of ABC were observed withholding tips from employees and initiating a disturbance with a customer
who inquired about his order after an hour s wait. As result of the owners behavior, the host of Kitchen
Nightmares walked off the show which consequently led to bad reviews for the company and negative
feedback from the public.
To add insult to injury, the owners opted to use their Facebook account to dispute comments which
entailed statements that were considered rather disparaging remarks (SEJ, 2014). The owners of ABC
claimed that the comments posted on the Facebook page were made by someone who had apparently
hacked into their

Triton s Modern Influences
Have you ever watched the little mermaid or Spongebob and wondered, Who is Triton? Most likely,
you have. These two children s cartoons are both perfect examples of Triton s modern influence. I m
Nicholas Torres and I will be speaking about Triton. Born to Poseidon and Amphitrite, Triton was
always in some way or another like his father. Triton carries a trident and uses a conch shell as a
trumpet. Not much is known about Triton s childhood. One of the few things that is known about
Triton is that he lived in a golden palace under water with his parents and that he really enjoyed
traveling to the coast of Libya, where he met his lover, Libya. He had many siblings. Triton had about
50 half siblings. Some of them are Theseus, Orion, Belus,

Battle Of Olustee Essay
The Battle of Olustee, also known as the Battle of Ocean Pond, only lasted for a single afternoon, but
became the second bloodiest battle for the Union, when the casualties are compared to the number of
soldiers engaged, and was the largest Civil War battle fought in Florida. This short battle, often
forgotten when compared to grand battles fought during the four year war, is an superb example of
how the Union took their chances and gave it their all, even when it was clear that the Confederates
had better odds, and won the battle, in the end. On February 7, 1864, the commander of the Union s
Department of the South, General Quincy Gilmore, dispatched General Truman Seymour to
Jacksonville, Florida, in hopes of securing land, politically; blocking, or disrupting Confederate
supply ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many individual soldier s stories also demonstrate the resilience of either side, showing how unwilling
they were to give up, and stop fighting, until absolutely necessary. Even John Hay s efforts to get
Florida to join upcoming United States political gatherings, show the unwavering pursuit for unity
from the Union s side.
The purpose of this project is to learn more about the Battle of Olustee, and how individuals, troops,
and even the whole of both the Confederacy and Union stood up against each other, to fight for what
they believed in, and prove that each person that participated in this battle found their own way to
stand up for their beliefs. While proving that this topic relates to the theme is the main purpose of the
project, another purpose is to learn more about what was happening throughout the United States
before, during, and after the time that this battle

  • 2. Tattooing In Today s Society The negative relationship that exists between age and having a tattoo best exemplifies the complexity of tattooing s existence in today s society. Tattoos are much more prevalent among individuals of younger generations than they were among individuals of older generations. This illustrates both tattooing s growing popularity and its failure to gain full social acceptance. Indeed, tattooing has become increasingly prevalent since its advancement during the tattoo renaissance. However this growing popularity appears to have only occurred amongst the youth. Youth have always been considered the vehicles through which social and cultural change take place. The tattooing phenomenon has employed the youth to expand its acceptance as well. • 3. Why Do Bees Have A Sense Of Smell During the early 1900s, two experiments were performed to determine whether bees have a sense of smell. Experiment 1 Identical cardboard boxes with removable covers were set up on a table. Each individual box had a door opening for bees. A dish of sugar water that was scented with a fragrant oil was placed in one box, and all the other boxes were left empty. After the bees had been exploring the boxes for many hours, it was evident that the bees could very easily find the fragrant sugar water even after the boxes had been switched to different places. After the initial training period, clean boxes were prepared for the bees. No sugar water was used; however, the same fragrant oil was used to scent one box. Bees continued to buzz around ... • 4. Examples Of Powerlessness In The Count Of Monte Cristo In the words of Plato, The measure of a man is what he does with power . In addition, some of our world leaders use their powers wisely, like using their power to benefit the people and not just themselves. Other leaders like Kim Jong iI not only use their power to the fullest extent, but they also abuse their power and not for the good of the people but for their own selfish reasons. For example, Kim Jong il, the former dictator of North Korea, did not care about his people, especially the poor. He would starve them and if they were too weak to work he would torture or even kill them. The theme about power and powerlessness is shown in history and even literature. Shortly after the Count reunites Max and Valentine, he sails off into the horizon with Hadee by his side. When the Count leaves, he leaves Max with a letter telling him about what he has learned through his life. He told Max about how he thought that he was equal to God and how he thought that he was doing God s work on Earth. However, throughout his life, the Count learned that no one is equal to God and that supreme power and wisdom are in the ...hands of God alone... (Dumas 530). This biblical allusion shows that the Count has now learned that everything is in God s hands and that God has all of the power. By using biblical allusions it also shows that whenever someone receives a lot of power they can start to think that they are above everyone else, and that sometimes they can start to think that they are someone that they really aren t. Furthermore, the Count has seen Valentine being slowly poisoned by Madame de Villefort so he wants to help her survive. Before the Count gives Valentine the medicine to make her sleep but appear to be deceased, Valentine is confused about how the count was able to watch her and know what was happening to her because she hasn t ...seen [the count] until now (Dumas 423). • 5. Goodfellas Movie Essay Goodfellas is one of the most significant crime movies. As such, this picture addresses the motives and rationale behind wrongful activities perpetrated by gangsters in a convincing manner. It also examines practical implications of their moral choices. The movie traces the life of an aspiring gangster, Henry. At the beginning, he is an ambitious adolescent willing to work for the local mafia. He succeeds, gradually rises through the ranks, and wins respect from the boss, Paul Cicero. This protagonist also makes friends with his colleagues James (Henry s personal role model) and Tommy (who is amiable yet almost sociopathic when offended). • 8. Farquhar s An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge had a much unanticipated conclusion, in my opinion. In fact, after finishing it, I had to revisit everything I thought I knew about what was going on in the story. For one, I had originally thought that the story was pretty basic plot a tale of a southern well to do planter s escape from a dreadful fate, which was death by hanging. However the case, it turned out that what I thought was happening in the story never actually happened. Peyton Farquhar s completely intricate and valiant escape, which included untying his bonds, evading bullets, swimming to freedom, and hiking back to the safety of his own home, never occurred. When the military sent him off the bridge to hang, the rope never broke. Instead the noose held fast, and Farquhar died right there no escape, no valor. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After going back and reading through the story again, I noticed several clues Bierce peppered throughout the great escape to foreshadow Farquhar s death. For example, Bierce kept mentioning how Farquhar was feeling pain in his neck and how his mind was getting more and more lost, saying that he had fallen asleep while walking. Another abnormality I noticed was how the soldiers kept firing shots at Farquhar while he was escaping, and they never managed to actually shoot him. I took the political party quiz and answered the questions as honestly as I could. I found the questions to be very interesting and versatile. After viewing my results I looked into The Green Party some more. I am basically an environmentalist and believe taxes are affecting the lower classes and something needs to be done about it. I agreed with all of these issues. 2. The top 5 issues are jobs, families, health, education and infrastructure. These have been goals of the Democratic Party for many years. I believe these are interesting goals and also ones I believe have issues. There s plenty of room for improvement when it comes to securing family funds, giving jobs to everyone who qualifies for them, and improving the education we give to our young citizens. 3. When it comes to jobs, the Democratic Party has worked with President Obama to stabilize the financial system and help prevent a second degree depression. Since the recession 15 million private sector jobs have become available and the unemployment rate has dropped 5% for the first time in the last decade. The Democratic Party has also helped expand public options when it comes to education. They decided they were going to pay teachers like any other professional and thought about rebuilding schools. The day after Houston s historic flood started with gloomy gray skies, horrendous humidity, and me sitting on the couch staring blankly at the T.V. The ecstatic voices of each advertisement after advertisement filled my ears. This was supposed to be a day of excitement and fun but it seemed as if the rain had destroyed those plans. I was leaving to New York for the summer and wouldn t see my friends for months. Sick and tired of sitting down half the day, I called them up to see if they had any idea of what we could do to spend this last day together. They came up with an idea to make the most out of an otherwise terrible day. In no time they showed up, I was taken away in a car headed towards the bayou. When we arrived, the water was raging against the banks inching closer and closer to the roadside. The trees were halfway underwater, not a single living creature in sight, and the sun was hidden behind a blanket of menacing clouds. As we unmounted the long blue canoes from the truck, we examined what we were about to do. Our examination didn t take long since we were teenagers we simply said screw it and decided to jump in the river. Taking turns each of us jumped in the canoe and canoed up and down the river. • 16. Man And Evil In Joseph Conrad s Heart Of Darkness Although the author Joseph Conrad never met the German philosopher Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, who died more than a century before Conrad s birth, their distinct philosophies still have numerous points of intersection, suggesting some fundamental truths within the structure of the human reality. Through the novella, Heart of Darkness, Conrad details his perspectives on the faults of man and reality as a whole, with views often coinciding with many of Leibniz s own, as found in his numerous philosophical works. Consequently, the two perspectives combine together, like a cyclopean image, to enhance and deepen each of the two men s philosophies on humanity. Conrad and Leibniz both note that man has an underlying vulnerability to evil. Among Leibniz s many conceptual principles is that of perfection vs imperfection, as he claims that no being is entirely flawed or completely ideal (Burnham, n.d.). Rather, all men possess varying magnitudes of perfection, except God, however, whom Leibniz believes to be the embodiment of infinite perfection (Burnham, n.d.). Continuing, Leibniz explains that man s limited perfection causes a lack of good, in contrast to just an unequivocal inherent evil, that consequently allows man the ability to create evil, arguing that evil and sin are only negations of positive reality, a principle that corresponds heavily with Leibniz s belief in theodicy, which serves as an attempt to explain and reconcile evil in the world with its creator, a ... Suzy has an IQ on the low end of the average range, and has always had significant difficulty with content area classes and any higher level thinking. She has been tested repeatedly for a learning disabilities diagnosis, but has never qualified for any services because she has not fallen far enough behind, and her achievement in comparison to her IQ has been considered adequate. I am interested in how RTI can help students, like Suzy, who need teaching tailored to their individual needs before they completely fail and lose all interest in school. Question 1. What are the significant differences between Response to Intervention and past models for responding to individual student needs? RTI differs from the past models for addressing individual student needs in multiple ways. Two of the most significant differences are the elimination of the discrepancy criterion in diagnosing learning disabilities in favor of multi level support for all students, and the centrality of culturally responsive practices (Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, 2010). Help Aging Adults Cope with the Process Concept of Death According to the USA QuickFacts (2014) the age of elderly people begins at the age of 65, and the U.S elderly population comprises of 13.7%. The elderly will outweigh any other aged population and it is necessary to established resources for the elderly to access. Participants will be encouraged to establish new relationships with other group members, as well as come to terms with relationships they once valued. Purpose and Rationale The purpose of this group is to help aging adults cope with the process concept of death and coping with the end of life to which an existential approach will be applied. The everyday aging adult faces many challenges that have to do with the process of aging, such as loss of certain privileges (e.g. driving), loss of vision and hearing, loss of friends and family, loss of freedom, just to name a few. One of the resources to be established is existential group counseling for the elderly. In existential group counseling, members will explore their purpose and meaning of life. The World Factbook (2014) states the average life expectancy for males is 76.19 years old, where for females it is 81.17 years old. As the elderly population increases, resources for the elderly population appear to be nonexistent when researching for programs or activities. • 20. Self Regulation And Self Regulatory Practices Essay Self regulation is an important part of an individual s everyday life. From the moment a person wakes up until the moment they go to sleep, they are engaging in self regulatory practices throughout much of their day. These self regulatory processes are not only conscious decisions that one makes throughout a variety of situations, but can become deeply imbedded in an individual s way of life. Through a social cognitive perspective, one may define self regulation as producing feelings, thoughts, and actions. These are planned and adapted cyclically in order for one to achieve personal goals in a changing social and physical environment (Zimmerman, 2010, as cited in Durand Bush, McNeill, Harding, Dobransky, 2015, p. 257). One must constantly modify their actions in order to obtain the desired outcome. Self regulation involves looking in retrospect at past actions, evaluating them, and then choosing current behavior to be consistent with desires. For some, self regulatory practices have been built over many years throughout one s life and continue to grow. The individual learns new knowledge and practices that they can incorporate into their lives. Daily actions are motivated by both internal and external forces. According to Ryan and Deci (2000), there is a very important difference between intrinsic and extrinsic kinds of motivation. • 23. Reality Tv Social Aspects Madi Fisher Media and Society Paper 1 Social Aspect of Television Socialization is a fundamental aspect in the life of relatively every human. In the absence of having the ability or strength to interact socially, we tend to steer away from social norms and isolate ourselves. One may consider that watching television correlates with the effects of anti socialization although, one may argue that is not the case. Television is a form of socialization that provides common ground for people to bond over, allows those lacking a social life to create their own social word, and provides an environment for conversation. Taking a look at our society today, television is a dominant way in which humans bond and interact with one another. According to Susan J. Douglas, Reality TV came to replace, in particular, the lineup of TV news magazines that had dominated various network schedules in the 1990s. (p. 632). Having a wider array of reality television gives viewers an immense relationship or connection with the characters. Douglas then states, ...The structure of the show invites us to empathize with them, judge them, or both. (p. 633). • 25. The Pros And Cons Of Kyoto Protocol Global warming influences every country in the world adversely. In order to relieve this issue, in 1997, United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) formulated and enacted Kyoto Protocol in Japan. At the beginning, more than 150 countries joined the conference. After that, other countries ratified Kyoto Protocol in succession. Until now, there are about 192 countries have already ratified the protocol. The United States, however, chose to drop out in 2001 after becoming one of the participants for four years. (Cable News Network Library, 2017) Drawbacks of Kyoto Protocol and negative impacts on the economy are two main reasons why the United States dropped out. Kyoto Protocol is an agreement that forces all the signatory countries to make great efforts to relieve global warming. It is widely accepted that greenhouse gases are able to heat earth since they can prevent heat from escaping from the atmosphere, a reasonable amount of greenhouse gases is needed to keep the earth warm at a constant and comfortable level, but the overabundance of those gases can influence earth adversely and thus increase the temperature beyond desirable level. Kyoto Protocol is aimed at solving this kind of problem. Therefore, we can say that Kyoto Protocol is an international treaty among industrialized nations that sets mandatory limits on greenhouse gas emissions. Specifically, in the scene where the young Butch is about to receive his father s gold watch, he is watching a show that can be considered racist showing the upbringing and themes of the past. Another example, is when Jules and Vincent take Marvin s body to Jimmie s house. Jimmie s reaction is actually very surrealistic. In other words, the incident manages to rekindle the racial stereotypes that were lurking in Jimmie s subconscious. Jimmie says a swear word that can be offensive without even thinking twice about what he has said, especially in front of his African American friend, Jules. Normally, in most movies and real life situations this would not be tolerated and would cause an issue. Tarantino also makes many references to television shows throughout his film. On average, male monolingual Spanish speakers earn 23% more than bilinguals and monolingual speakers of indigenous languages, with no significant difference between the income levels of the last two groups (Chiswick, Patrinos, and Hurst 350). Effects were more pronounced in their female counterparts: monolingual female Spanish speakers earned about 28% more than bilinguals who, in turn, earned 25% more than monolingual indigenous language speakers (Chiswick, Patrinos, and Hurst 350). However, there is no indication that learning an indigenous language was the cause for this disparity. In fact, class was a much better predictor of income and success than language of education (Chiswick, Patrinos, and Hurst 364). Still, indigenous parents often believe that formally learning an indigenous language will not give their children a competitive edge in the modern economy (Chiswick, Patrinos, and Hurst 364). Specifically, they point to the fact that, when given the chance to send their children to bilingual institutions, the majority of non indigenous people including many bilingual teachers and activists for indigenous language education send their children to schools that teach English or French (Garcia, Politics 79). Yet, these arguments made by indigenous parents are often discredited by activists, who attribute the reluctance to participate in bilingual programs to the fact that the parents themselves are uneducated and do not know what is best for themselves, their children, and their communities (Garcia, Politics ... The Man In The Dead Machine Summary In the poem The Man in the Dead Machine, Donald Hall uses vivid imagery and alternative scenarios to emphasize the sheer overwhelming specter of death that loomed over those serving in the greatest conflict known to man. Specifying the model of the fighter plane allows the reader to be knowledgeable about the setting of the poem. Located within the title, the word dead is used to describe the machine. Being dead is the ultimate end of a life and that uncertainty of death sparks fear among many people. The inclusion of this certain word is used to set the tone of the poem as dark and gloomy and obtain the readers interest. Another method used by Hall to convey the theme of death was through imagery. The entire second stanza is a description of the pilot s skeleton strapped within the crashed plane. Having such a graphic image portrayed, Hall is able to essentially shock his reader with the gruesomeness that death produces. One of the last things the reader may decipher from this poem is that life, just like war, is a trap. Within the third stanza, the pilot is said to be taking a train to work and is held/ by the firm webbing of the train. The webbing infers that the pilot, although not trapped in his plane, is trapped in the roles put forth by society. Throughout Halls poem, many different ideas and topics can be deduced but the uncertainty of life and death stands out as the main focal point. To emphasize the fragileness of life and death, Hall begins the poem with a story of death and in the last stanza switches his perspective to the possible life the pilot could have had if he survived. Analysis Of The Article No Women No War Stephanie Knowles 2/10/2015 Article Summary (No Women No war) The article No women no war was written by Pasi Loman , a post graduate student from university of Nottingham. Loman discusses about the role of Greek women in defending their cities and communities. The author attempts to clarify the assumptions made by modern scholars or authors that women did not play a part in foreign military campaigns i.e. war. Loman discusses about Greek women and their views, emotion and reaction based on warfare, the impossible existence of amazons. The reason for the author making this an argument is because of misjudgment even thou women have had an active role in war. The only side shown by most researchers is when, women are either rejoicing for the victory of their soldiers or the mourning for their country. But the authors makes a point to look at the facts about Greek women and if they have been credited enough for their participation and support in war. Loman compares the contrasts the research done by other authors like Plutarch who states that Spartan women were hard cored when it came to war it was a do or die deal for them they were not very pleased with their sons if they came home defeated some women would kill their sons instead of accepting defeat. Murrow has a confident tone that is utilized to coerce the audience into thinking that information is something that is crucial to a part of their everyday ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Human Security can be defined as focusing on the individual human being as the referent object of security as distinct from the nation state. R2P and Human Security have gathered impetus in the international community both in academic and policy spheres with a view to these concepts being justifiers for humanitarian intervention. Taking realism as the security argument that deals directly with state security, it is accepted that nation states have valid concerns in protecting their borders and populations within from external threats, be they military force or manifestations of problems stemming from ... A Brief History of R2P in Policy Before relating the R2P to the Darfur Crisis it is important to understand the fundamental tenants of the R2P debate in relation to humanitarian intervention and the repercussions for state sovereignty. The R2P concept can trace its modern origin to the address given by former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, to the General Assembly in 1999 putting forward the challenge of preventing another Rwanda. In response to this challenge the Canadian Government sponsored the foundation of the International Commission on Intervention and State Sovereignty (ICISS) in 2000 . Its report The Responsibility to Protect was released the following year. The report outlines that the main message of R2P is that sovereignty entails responsibility. Responsibility to protect its citizens from genocide and other gross violations of human rights . Should any particular nation fail to uphold these protections, then under the R2P concept responsibility devolves to the international community . This of course comes with a significant moral weight. • 46. Essay on Theories of Personality Introversion has the greatest chance of negatively affecting SLA. Students that are afraid of embarrassing themselves by speaking incorrectly or by not being able to speak at all may try to avoid opportunities that would otherwise aid their learning (Zhang, 2008). Since 1960, personality has emerged as major field of specialization among doctoral candidates (Vance Macphail, 1964). Many investigations have been accomplished followed by literature on a variety of theories of personality. The study can merely be called systematic and scientific when it concerned unbiased observations that are quantified so that systematic analyses can be performed (Allen, 1990). Dworkin and Kihlstrom (1978) underlined that the prediction of behavior will be improved by the use of personality tests. In line with this, many personality inventories with certain extent of reliability and validity have been developed to aid in the study of personality. There are essentially two forms of personality tests that can be found in the literature. One of it is named projective test, allowing an extensive variety of freedom in making response, whereby the test items are more unstructured, vague or open ended. Example of this is the Rorscharch Technique (1951). In the meantime another form of test is called the objective test. Objective tests are extremely structured paper and pencil questionnaires such as true/false or multiple choices, each of which can be scored with a key. Sidek personality Inventory is one case of an objective test. As objective tests are highly structured and scientific, they are higher in validity and reliability compared to projective tests. Allport (1936) was the first one who considered the conception of traits as the origin of his theory of personality. Nevertheless, different psychologists have developed different list of essential traits and different measurement ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Alliteration In Hard Rock Returns To Prison Knight s experience in life lends a unique hand about his work that makes it worthwhile. His experienced a lack of education, yet he rises to become a great poet. He was surrounded by dying in the war, but drugs resurrected him. His hope died in 1960 when he received a prison sentence, but, poetry brought him back to life. Even in his words about himself describing himself as poetic, the author uses various techniques to bring Hard Rock Returns to Prison alive. One of the methods he uses in writing is alliteration, by using the repetition of Hard Rock s name throughout the poem, persuading the reader not to forget, about the mistreatment of a human being, almost to the point of having to remember that Hard Rock was indeed a prisoner. Imagery was another device used in Knight s writing. He uses the image of a stallion preparing to be let loose from a cage only to find the stallion is already free. He uses the first person as the main speaker of the narrative as the other prisoners who admired the hero/prisoner. As well as, jargon used by the black prisoners, for instance, Hard Rock! Man, that s one crazy nigger. (p.261) Although Knight s mood in the piece is grim, he still adds a humorous side to the poem, for example, The testing came, to see if Hard Rock was tame/A hillbilly called him a black son of a bitch/And didn t lose his teeth, a screw who knew Hard Rock/From before shook him down and barked in his face/And Hard Rock did nothing/ Just grinned and looked ... I would not use the word fear; however, organizations and consumers should be cognizant of such websites and the impact that the sites can have on any type of business. Give an example of a corporate website where negative and/or uncomplimentary messages have been posted. The importance of relying on scholarly peer reviewed articles and journals become clearer with each passing day; it is difficult to discern fact from fiction. According to reports, Amy s Baking Company (ABC) displayed a classic meltdown after finding itself the topic of ridicule following an episode of a renowned television show titled Gordon Ramsay s Kitchen Nightmares (SEJ, 2014). Tepper (2013) shared with readers that during the show, the owners of ABC were observed withholding tips from employees and initiating a disturbance with a customer who inquired about his order after an hour s wait. As result of the owners behavior, the host of Kitchen Nightmares walked off the show which consequently led to bad reviews for the company and negative feedback from the public.
