Cultural Diversity In The United States
With so much cultural diversity in the United States, it is important to know how to properly
communicate with others who don t share the same cultures as you. There are certain principles of
cross cultural communication; they can be used to successfully communicate within diverse
communities. The first principle says that the bigger the cultural or linguistic difference among people,
the more likely there will be communication breakdown. The textbook gives the example
Communicating with customers from Iran will likely lead to more communication difficulties for you
than would be true if you were communicating with customers from England (Cheesebro, Thomas,
Linda O Connor, and Francisco Rios (2010). Differences in an individual s value

Energy Price Volatility With Regards Natural Gas
Executive Summary
In this paper, energy price volatility with regards natural gas will be expounded on the essentials of
market requisites. The report explains a number of factors that lead to price differences in the market
and price volatility implications to oil and gas companies and industry. Supply and demand factors
play a major role in shaping natural gas prices but factors such as war, environment and OPEC
contribute to price differentials. Value at Risk (VaR) evaluates and quantifies risk for the industry as a
risk management tool.
Introduction
Global economy is driven by energy markets. Energy does not only play a significant role in consumer
products but also an important input in nearly all the industries. (Efimova O. and ... Show more

Finally, recommendations and a conclusion made on natural gas price volatility based on the analysis
and information discussed in this report.
Overview
Huntington H. G. 2009 mentions that recent changes in natural gas market are attributed to market
forces and organizations operating in the industry. As the industry develops into new end user markets
and producers, prices adjust according to the changes in the market.
Due to the key roles of energy influence on global economic welfare, pricing is fundamental for
correct and efficient choice of appropriate energy source. (Davis L. W. and Muehlegger E. 2010).
Energy Information Administration (EIA) 2014 says the total gas consumption within industrial and
electric power sectors in the U.S. will improve from 25.6 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) in 2012 to 31.6Tcf in
2040. Natural gas usage escalates in all sectors apart from residential due to population movement to
warmer areas (EIA 2014) figure 1. For instance, in 2010 approximately 25% of energy consumed in
the U.S. came from natural gas (Lv X. and Shan X. 2013). This indicates prices may adjust to demand
changes accompanying its usage.

A chip off the new block
Semicontronics is an Australian manufacturing company that has been in the business of semi
manufactured electronics for over a decade. Semicontronics has a solid reputation for meeting
customer demands for quality products on time and on budget. The majority of Semicontronics
customers are international, mid market manufacturing companies that produce generic electronics
such as cell phones, digital media players and game consoles. Retail stores in foreign countries
purchase the generic products and rebrand them for sale.

If Semicontronics can maintain its track record for supplying cost efficient, quality products on target,
it could open an entire new customer market for expansion. While negotiating the supplier contract,
Semicontronics realizes the memory in its current computer chips will have to be significantly
increased to support the technical capabilities of Phoneson s electronics. Its current manufacturing
plant in Brazil is not equipped to meet these new demands, and an upgrade at this stage in a new
customer endeavor is not economically feasible for Semicontronics. Semicontronics realizes it must
find a quality subcontractor with the capabilities to manufacture the Phoneson computer chips,
including the enhanced memory requirements.
Cash in your chips... After careful market research and consideration of options, Semicontronics
decides to subcontract the computer chip manufacturing to Singatron, a relatively new electronics
manufacturer in Singapore. Singapore has been a hotbed for electronics manufacturing, and Singatron
was created by venture capitalist hoping to get a foothold in Singapore s electronics market,
specifically, in the next generation of computer chips. Although Singatron markets itself as a top
quality manufacturer, its lack of experience is proving to be a major obstacle to it winning contracts.
The subcontracting offer from Semicontronics has the potential to be mutually beneficial for both
parties, because

Oskar Schindler Essay
The Holocaust was a dark time in world history. Jews, Gypsies, Homosexuals and more were killed
and cremated by the hands of the Nazis. There were a few, however, that fought the views of Adolf
Hitler and attempted to save some of the victims of his cruelty. One of the greatest of these is Oskar
Schindler. Oskar Schindler has been described as a crook, an alcoholic, and an insatiable womanizer.
All of this may very well be true, but this factory owner was a hero to many Jewish men, women, and
children. When those Jews were shipped to the concentration camp Plazsow, he would make the
famed Schindler s list. This list was a promise, a promise to those who were on it, that they would not
die at the hands of the Nazis. Since he was known to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In The Air Between Us By Claude M. Steele
Stereotype threat is a perception of fear that a person experiences in circumstances when they feel
they may inadvertently confirm a negative stereotype of a social group in which they are a part of. The
powerful effect of stereotype threat has been explored to determine the root of the issue, who is most
susceptible and what can be done to lessen the negative impacts it imparts on victims. The essay In the
Air between Us by Claude M. Steele examines the dynamic pressure stereotype threat places
specifically on African American students in a collegiate academic setting. This essay uses compelling
case studies to examine the everyday impact of this phenomenon, while searching for solutions to
diminish its effect. I will prove through use of Steele s essay, additional case ... Show more content on

Steele focuses her argument around high achieving, motivated black student s underachievement
rooted in stereotype threat. She argues that students that are of equal intelligent level underperform
due to subtle but powerful impacts of stereotypes, and that colleges can lessen these impacts by
addressing the issue through creation of identity safety and diminishing of racial divides. This point is
strongly proven through the study conducted by Woolf et al. (2008) where minority students
underachieve in medical school due to decreased teacher interactions rooted in student classifications.
If a safe identity space were created in this institution the classifications and ultimately racial divide
would be nullified, leading to equal relationships amongst all students and teachers and ultimately
opportunity for equal performance. Upon examination of Steele s essay and other case studies,
stereotype threats biggest disadvantage lies in ultimate creation of unequal opportunities and testing

Summary Of Richard Bensel s Yankee Leviathan
Richard Bensel s Yankee Leviathan: The Origins of Central State Authority in America, 1857 1877, is
a book on the formation of the United States Federal government during the Civil War and the
Reconstruction eras. The book deals with the association of the Northern class and the Federal
government. It provides a history of the economy during the Civil War and help to reveal why a
socialist economy would not further the American economy. Bensel is of the belief that an
independent state authority would be a better form of government. He contended the United States
Federal government s growth was as a result of the Civil War during the Reconstruction era. In
addition, Bensel believed the Civil War attributed to the Northern Financial class, which ensued from
association with bankers in the North. He saw political ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A large amount of state expansion included policies that were proposed and argued in the prewar
period (Bensel, 1).
The mobilization of the northern political economy for war, however, both provided the major impetus
for state expansion and reshaped the antebellum agenda. The war had an even greater impact on the
structure and substantive policies of the emergent Southern Confederacy (Bensel, 3). The war between
the North and the South resulted in different governmental leaderships. The South substantially
depended on internal market development like tobacco and cotton crops. To finance the war, the North
depended on local banking institutions. As a result, during the Civil War, the Northern financial class
grew substantially. New York became the state with one of the greatest banking institutions. In
comparison, the South was empowered by statist elements and strict policies to organize the resources

what Italian Immigrants lives were like typically living in America. Using this background knowledge,
I was able to analyze the lifestyles of the working class in each of the stories. Even though the
background story of each of the family s lives differed, they all had a common basis in that they were

Cooking and baking is a central quality of this family s lifestyle. The narrative goes into great detail
and this has to do with a cultural placement. For Giovanni s family, cooking and eating is a set of
cultural rituals and the making of an experience. It is a part of a performance art, not just a
consumption product. Another central quality of this family s lifestyle is essentially work. Puma
writes: With Johnny s help, father and son would finish up by eleven instead of after midnight for the
father alone. The next morning Johnny would still be sleepy, and his mother would tickle his toes until
he climbed out of bed for breakfast with his sister and brother. By then his father would already be on
the subway headed again for the pastry shop Downtown (From the Margins 86).
This shows that Giovanni s life centers around work. Giovanni spends most of his time working about
six days a week. He is doing this in order to support his family. In another scene when Johnny is
making dough, he sees bugs in the flour, and Giovanni also accidentally knocks cigarette ashes into
the flour. Giovanni shrugs it off as if it is no big deal. Giovanni is exhausted and he is simply being
realistic and just wants to get work done. Puma shows Giovanni s hard lifestyle when he writes: The
physical work, the heat from the ovens...the long hours for little pay in those times when most other

Open and Closed Source Systems Essay
An operating system is a considered a set of programs that schedule tasks, assign storage and
presenting an interface to the user. There are many operating systems to choose from. Some are
created for personal use, some for business use, and some can be used for both. One of the biggest
differences is whether the operating system is open source or closed source. Operating systems are
created with programming code. Programmers are responsible for writing the source code, which is
compiled into executable code. This executable code is what creates the product ran on computers. An
open source system is a system in which the source code is visible. A closed source system keeps the
source code hidden.

Users have several options when choosing a closed source system. Some examples would include
Microsoft Windows and Apple OS X operating systems. Like open source systems, closed source
systems offer software for a variety of uses that include personal, server and mobile.
Open Source Closed Source
Linux
Red Hat
Unix Windows 97, XP, 7, Vista
Versions of Window Server
Mac OS X
Closed source systems are usually found in personal computers because the level of expertise needed
to use them is minimal. There are many factors to consider when determining which system to use.
The level of expertise of the user, the costs of the system and any add ons, and the flexibility of the
system must all be considered. The type of application also plays some role in the decision. Both types
can be found in personal, server, and mobile applications. However, open source systems are often
found more in mobile and server applications.

Premium Vs Regular Unleaded Gasoline
Are there benefits in using the premium versus regular unleaded gasoline?
If you were to ask a dozen different people if they believe there are benefits to premium versus regular
gasoline, you may hear varying answers. Many people will say premium is better but may not be able
to explain why. Truth is, many car owners follow the manual or just buy premium or regular based on
budgetary reasons because premium is more expensive than regular.
To make the right decision for your vehicle, let s break down the differences between premium and
regular unleaded gasoline.

The most commonly used type, regular unleaded gas (RUG) is readily available throughout the world.
As a byproduct of crude oil, RUG is highly flammable though

Ode To A Nightingale Critical Analysis
Where does one go when he or she feels the need to disconnect from their reality ? People often seek
to escape their reality physically, but also mentally by using imagination. Imagination allows one to
disconnect from the real world problems that may cause fear, despairs, or isolation. In John Keats
poem, Ode to a Nightingale discusses the idea of mortality and death throughout the poem by escaping
reality. By looking at escapism, one can see the poet s struggle with physical and mental state, which
most readers don t see; this is important because it shows symbolism through the nightingale. In Ode
to a Nightingale Keats writes, My heart aches, and a drowsy numbness pains/ My sense, as though of
hemlock I had drunk, comparing his heart ache to the drowsy numbness pains because his pain makes
him lack physical sensation. By drinking the hemlock it is known he wants to escape and forget the
heartache that does not make him feel by drinking the poison. The poets urge to forget is shown he
drinks the poison One minute past, and Lethe wards had sunk , which refers to the river of
forgetfulness. By drinking the poison and drowning in Lethe wards it symbolizes his urge to drown in
urge to feel by feeling numb to the pain. It shows how to does not seek to face reality with his sorrow.
Moreover, Keat arises the question of his mental and physical state by envying the nightingale by
stating Tis not through envy of thy happy lot, / But being too happy in

Race, Racial, And Race Relations
Every individual has a particular definition of race and a distinct view of race relations in America
today, because every individual s reality is different and therefore their perception is different as well.
With that in mind, it becomes clear that the best way to understand race relations better is to
understand what another person s thoughts are on the matter. This interview paper sheds light onto
another s understanding and thoughts regarding race relations in America. I can not sate the true
identity of the interviewee in this paper, so for all intents and purposes his name will be George. My

Around the same time, he began to notice other races and his classmates began to notice his race and
comment on it. He said how this memory resonates with him because it was the first time he felt out of
place because of something he couldn t control. George further explained the feeling as knowing on
some level that everything was created with someone that was not him in mind, that society was not
best fit for him to succeed. A second early childhood experience George remembers well is having a
sit down conversation with his family where they told him that some people would discriminate
against him and hate him just for the color of his skin. This was a very startling and nerve racking
conversation for a young child to have. George feels that race has shaped his upbringing from the very
start and these are just a few of the moments where race played a pivotal role in his early life. He
believes that there is an innumerable amount of examples like these from his preschool days that are
stuck in his subconscious. As George grew older he began to notice racial divides more and more in
his everyday life. One incident stands out above the rest for him. It was a spring afternoon and George
was walking to lacrosse practice after stopping by McDonalds to grab a bite to eat. While walking
down the road, George was approached by a police officer. This police officer stopped George and

Descriptive Essay About Six Flags
About seven years ago, I went to Six Flags for the first time ever. I was only about ten years old at the
time, and of course I was extremely nervous. I had a lot of questions about it because of course it was
all new to me with it being my first time going to an amusement park. I had asked about the big rides
they have of course, the really popular water park they have at Six Flags, and of course I had to ask
about the good amusement park food. As soon as I got there, my heart instantly dropped.
I was at the park, and it was me and my family taking a trip to the best amusement park in missouri.
We took off from the house, in Fulton, Missouri. It was about an hour and a half drive to get to Six
Flags in St. Louis. We finally got there, the lines were super long, and the park was packed already at
about eleven in the morning. Me and my little sister were both extremely excited to get past the long
line, since it was both of our first time being there. We walk through the gate, and my heart instantly
dropped on spot. The rides were super big. With loops and corkscrews, and that made me go from
excited to scared quick.I was only about ten years old; therefore, I was not able to ride that many
rides, and I was kind of relieved to hear that from my family. Since I was too young and too short to
ride any rides, me and my sister went to the water park. The rides were still really big and scary, but
also very fun at the same time, there was quite a few cool water slides that I

A Report On Healthsouth Used Bad Debt Reserves Essay
whatsoever. Moreover, the amount of the accounts written off in any given year did not correlate with
the allowance established for them. To the extent that these disclosures were reliable, these data
indicate that HealthSouth used bad debt reserves to manipulate earnings. This lack of correlation could
be an indirect indicator of the fourth warning sign of abusive earnings management: reserves that are
not correlated with balance sheet items.
Consider two related items related to uncollectible accounts, to further understand possible earnings
management. First, there were disproportionately large allowance for doubtful accounts balances at
the end of 1994 and 1995: nearly 40% of gross receivables. These existing balances could have been
drawn down without the need to record an accurate provision for doubtful accounts. Consequently, the
year end charge to bad expense, required to replenish the depleted contra asset account, could have
been less than normally expected if the unadjusted allowance balance jibed with economic reality. By
understating expenses in this manner, HealthSouth could have manufactured earnings beginning in the
mid 1990s. These data provide some evidence of the classic cookie jar reserve ploy (Reed et al, 2003).
The related issue is the amount of bad debt expense matched against revenues in 1999. As noted, that
unusually large charge to earnings was made at the time when it became publicly known that
HealthSouth could no longer hit its earnings target.

Lenore Walker Cycle
One may wonder why some individuals remain in the cycle of domestic violence even after instances
of abuse. Should it not be easy for an individual to leave a partner who is inflicting pain and stress on
him or her? Lenore Walker s (1979) model for the cycle of domestic violence explores the phases of
domestic violence, the different types of abuse, and how these various phases contribute to the
continuation of the cycle. Domestic violence is often diagnosed by obvious signs of physical abuse;
however there are other unnoticeable patterns that one may not be able to immediately observe with
the naked eye. Furthermore, domestic violence affects not only those who directly experience the
abuse, but also those who are witnessing it, such as children (Behind Closed Doors, n.d.; Black,
Sussman, Unger, 2010). It is important to recognize the the less obvious markers of intimate partner
violence in order to break these patterns and work towards ending the cycles of transgenerational
violence. In the model for cycle of domestic violence developed by Lenore Walker (1979), there are
three phases in the cycle of abuse: tension building phase, acute battering phase, and the honeymoon
phase. The tension building phase typically involves verbal abuse and conflict over matters such as
finance and family (Walker, 1979). This first phase eventually leads to the battering phase, where
physical abuse begins. Part of the reason why individuals who experience domestic violence do not

A Brief Biography of Fidel Castro
His full name is Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz and he was born on August 13, 1926 in a Biràn, Cuba.
Castro s parents are Angel Castro(father) and Lina Ruz(mother). His father was a wealth landowner
while his mother was a cook and maid to Angel. Castro was the third of six children in his family. His
parents sent Fidel to a Jesuit boarding school where he was disciplined and showed the true potential
of his intellect. While in boarding school, he also showed a much bigger interest in sports rather than
academics. He even won an award for best all around athlete. Castro later went on to attend the
University of Havana in 1945 where he began his studies in law. While attending the university, he
was involved in many protest movements and rebellions. As a lawyer, Castro would take actually take
cases of people who were not able to pay him so at often times he was short on money. Fidel began to
notice the issues of Cuba such as poverty, injustice, and corruption. A passion grew within him that
wanted to fix these issues of Cuba so Castro joined a political group that had the same views and goals
as him. This new political party he joined was called the Cuban People s Party. Fidel later became a
candidate for Congress for his political party in 1952. This is when he led a group of armed citizens to

Lucy Pevensie In The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe
Once there were four children whose names were Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy (Lewis 3). In the
book the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis, all Lucy Pevensie wants is freedom. She
wants to get away from the egregious war and bombings. She wants her dad to be back from the
hostile war and her mum to be safe with them. She wants to play games with her three elder siblings to

In all of her wants, nothing stops her persistent cheerfulness and confident attitude. Lucy Pevensie

Oppression Essay
Oppression signifies an authority over another group, disengaging that particular group from the rest
of society. The term oppression encapsulates the fusion of institutional and systemic discrimination,
personal bias, bigotry, and social prejudice in a complex web of relationships and structures that shade
most aspects of life in our society (Bell, 1997). In one way or another every individual experiences
some form of oppression, whether it be through race, sex, gender, religion, age, wealth and/or sexual
orientation. These cultural minorities experience inequality where a dominant culture casts its

A great achievement of women s movements worldwide has been their success in breaking the silence
about male violence against women in intimate relationships (Vickers, 2002). Having broken the
silence of violence it has also broken the silence of oppression. The ongoing battle(s) of women s
rights suggests that the silence of oppression is of the past and the future holds equality for all alike.
...power is the capacity to terrorize, to use self and strength to inculcate fear, fear in a whole class of
persons (Dworkin, 1981). Male dominance exhibits and practices fear toward those of different
classes, its use is to gain power to which control is given. In the male system, sex is the penis, the
penis is sexual power, its use in fucking is manhood (Dworkin, 1981). The male mind indicates that
without a penis an authority of power is dismissed and overlooked. Unfortunate for society today male
hierarchy continues to be the dominant practice and the penis is a visual and vital form of power. Male
sexual power is the substance of culture (Dworkin, 1981). Although women have come a long way
their oppression and limited amount of power in society has yet to be broken and adjusted because of

Their goal was to shut down court houses around Massachusetts to protect farmers from paying debts

The Effects Of Migration On Higher Educational Aspirations
Introduction
If one were to evaluate the impact of immigration, it can be said that it alters the way in which one
interprets a certain culture or idea. Immigration can shape the way parents see the future of their child,
specifically their academic and career aspirations. The parents may hold different expectations for
their children, in terms of their desire for a better future for their children. However, it can also affect
the manner in which the child accomplishes these goals. In this paper, I will examine the effects of
migration on higher educational aspirations for the children of immigrants, because it is important to
note how the migrant s experience influences the desires for their children. I will focus on the three
reasons that can influence their aspirations: motivations for migration, expectations for children and
academic performance of the children. I argue that to fully understand how migration affects
educational aspirations, it is necessary to focus on the reasons that migration was made possible for
Latina migrant womens, considering the economic and political histories of Latin America and the
United States. It is also important to note what the educational aspirations are, and to consider the
academic performances of the children of migrant workers, to see whether or not they are living up to
these expectations. Results demonstrate that the outcomes can be mixed, as some children may live up
to the aspirations while others are held back due to

Persuasive Essay On Medical Marijuana
In the United States, we have enacted various drug policies in order to prevent the damage that would
be caused by the harmful effects of drugs. Some are regulated by the government while others are
completely banned altogether. We fear the risk of the latter in particular, which includes heavy and
hard drugs like cocaine, methamphetamines, and heroin. However, as time goes on, we change and so
do our perspectives. We realize that some things are not as foreboding as we once thought. These
substances could actually be of benefit to our society and we inhibit its ability to do so through the
reinforcement of age old and faulty drug policy. This is the case with cannabis, otherwise known as
marijuana. As of now, it is illegal to buy, sell, possess, or use marijuana in any shape or form, but with
the times changing and medical marijuana becoming more popular, the question remains: should
marijuana be legalized all across the United States of America? With the benefits it could bring with
its social both concerning the issues around harder drugs and prison overpopulation and medical uses,
as well as its less harmful effects when compared to the legal substances of tobacco and alcohol,
marijuana could be a profitable asset to our society if it were to be legalized, and I believe that we
should strive for that outcome. Those who disagree to the the legalization of marijuana might do so on
the basis that it has the reputation of what is known as a gateway drug, in which that it

Vertigo Themes
Film Analysis 1: The Power of Vertigo I remember watching Vertigo for the first time back when I
was still very young, but at the time, I didn t really understand anything about the movie. As I watched
it again as I grew older, I learned to appreciate how great this movie really is and the special narrative
style that the movie presented. Vertigo, to me, was always known as Alfred Hitchcock s best film.
Most of Hitchcock s well known films like Psycho or North by Northwest have unique title sequences
that were an important part of their respective themes and narratives. For Vertigo s title sequence, it
starts with an extreme close up of a woman s lips, which suggests the foreshadowing of Judy s role in
the movie. The intro then shifts to the person s eyes, while the eyes, referencing the idea of looking
and watching like what Scottie will do for the most part of the movie. Visual motifs were presented
during this sequence such as the spinning spiral patters. These were motifs that are carried through
into the narrative.
The film is about John Scottie Ferguson, a detective who suffers from acrophobia, which is probably
the reason for the title Vertigo . He has guilt complex over what happened in the beginning of the
movie when the police officer fell off and died. When he accepts to watch over his friend s suicidal
wife for his final job, he madly falls in love with her . Later on in the movie, Scottie tries to save
Madeleine from falling off a steeple, but was

History Of San Francisco Bay
2. BACKGROUND The San Francisco bay was one of the best natural harbours in the world and it
was also the gateway to the Pacific Ocean. (Loomis, 1958) This fact meant that its bay would become
a leading trade centre. A rush of people were attracted to San Francisco because of its port, the natural
beauty and the gold rush, where thousands of people were brought in by ship. This lead to a shortage
in water in all areas and transportation services had to be improved to provide enough water to all
places. A ferry service was started that crossed the river from San Francisco to Sacramento to carry
heavy equipment and people to the gold fields in the time of the gold rush and just thereafter. As the
population grew the ferry service improved as

The Tranformation of the Smartphone
1. INTRODUCTION
In the history of smartphones, the revolutionary technologies have made a agreat transformation from
the giant brick structure smartphones in 1995 to slim and stylish form factor nowadays. Over the past
few decades ago, smartphones become more abundant, for instance, 300 million units were sold world
wide in 2010 [] while one out of two Americans started using smartphones mobile phones in the year
2011 []. This has caused Smart mobile operating system (OS) to become a blazing hot issue, after
Apple reintroduced the term Smart in a phone in the year 2007. An Android phone manufacturer,
Samsung, sold 319.8 million units 32.2 percent, a 15% increase from 2012 whereas Apple sold 153.5
million iPhones worldwide with a 15.5 % market share. In the year 2013 alone, global smart phones
shipments boost up 41 percent to reach a record high 990 million units according to the Thomson
Reuters, the world s largest international multimedia news.
However, under the hood of market statistics, an enormous technical progress has been made since the
inception of mobile devices. As the performance of the mobile device becomes significantly increased,
the potential use of such devices is also tremendous. As a result, the developers are now facing the
challenge of designing not only hardware architectures but also complex software. One of the most
challenging problems is to design a well usable smartphone. For instance, the process of designing the

My Experience With Severe Anxiety
When I reflect on everything that has happened thus far in my lifetime, I am amazed at how far I have
come. I was born on May 31st, 1998. My mom was in college when she had me, and my father
worked two jobs to support the family. They worked incredibly hard to make sure that I had a good
and comfortable life. They never gave up, even when they were loaded with their many
responsibilities, because they cared so much for me and my future. I truly admire them for that. They
instilled the value of preserving, and never giving up, no matter how tough your challenges in life are.
This value is very important to me, and I believe that I would not be where I am today if I didn t stay
true to this value. This value has been especially important when I have had to deal with severe
anxiety.
I have dealt with anxiety my entire life. The anxiety became especially intense during my freshman
year of high school. It began to severely interfere with my schooling, to the point where I could not
even attend school. I many attempts to continue to attend school, but these attempts would often end
with me having a severe panic attack. This constant failure to attend school sent me into a bout of
depression. All of these factors led to the decision for me to be put into home hospital, where I would
do all my schoolwork at home, and work with a teacher who came to my house for an hour each day.
This would allow me to focus on receiving professional help with my anxiety. I met with a therapist

Multicultural Barbie And The Merchandising Of Cultural...
Cultural Differences Cultural differences in my definition refer to differences among people because
of their racial or ethnic background, gender, language, nationality, sexual orientation, dress and
traditions. These differences can bring strength to the group if valued and integrated into the group
dynamics, at the same time it can also weaken a group as differences in interpretation of events can
lead to miscommunication, awkwardness and hostilities if not addressed. Prejudices about people of
different backgrounds can also lead people to jump to conclusions and misinterpret actions and
behaviors. In the article, Dyes and Dolls: Multicultural Barbie and the Merchandising of Difference,

Appiah describes this tolerance as becoming more cosmopolitan, which is to have a wider
understanding of other cultures and then be more understanding of their differences. As Appiah gives
an example where he writes, People are disgusted by the idea of drinking orange juice that has a
cockroach in it, even if they know the cockroach was rigorously cleaned of all bacteria by being
autoclaved in advance (662).We need to understand how cultures have values and that certain actions
are deemed taboo and that many cultures agree those actions taboo, but, there are other cultural
actions that are everyday life for those who are raised in that society such as, eating cats, or even
eating a red pepper on a Wednesday. According to Kwaine Anthony, Cosmopolitans suppose that all
cultures have enough overlap in their vocabulary of values to begin a conversation. But they don t
suppose that we could all come to agreement if only we had the same vocabulary (664). I do feel if we
had a universal language there would still be difficulties. Even if we set aside our language barriers we
cannot set aside our culture, our values, and our blood deep belief system, a cosmopolitan society may

Brand Strategy and Imc
Brand strategy and integrated marketing communication (IMC): a case study of player s cigarette...
Integrated marketing communication (IMC) is defined as a cross functional process for creating and
nourishing profitable relationships with customers and other stakeholders by strategically controlling
or influencing all messages sent to these groups and encouraging data driven, purposeful dialogue
with them (Duncan 2002, p. 8). To better understand the real world application of IMC, a call has been
made for case histories that focus on IMC best practices (see Duncan and Mulhern 2004, p. 19). In this
paper, we provide a case study that demonstrates how one company Imperial Tobacco Limited (ITL),

Other authors have related IMC to the decline in perceived effectiveness of television advertising,
which encouraged organizations to divert resources toward a variety of other media (e.g., Duncan and
Everett 1993; Kitchen and Schultz 1999; Rust and Oliver 1994). For the tobacco industry and
companies such as ITL, regulated restrictions on access to different media further compelled them to
seek a variety of nontraditional media. The case study of ITL and the Player s trademark is particularly
interesting because the legal and political environment facing the firm has seemingly accelerated its
move toward an IMC mind set and structure.
Conceptually, IMC provides a useful theoretical context for illustrating the image development of
particular cigarette brands, particularly in the context of understanding how tobacco companies
attempt to use recurrent themes and strategies when making the transition from one mode of
promotion to another. We acknowledge that IMC is not simply a multimedia coordinated campaign,
and Duncan and Mulhern (2004) have noted that IMC is more than just tactical consistency, usually
referred to as one voice, one look. Organizations can achieve an execution that is consistent and
appears to have integrated marketing communications, but the essence of the IMC movement is a call
to make marketing communication more effective through greater tactical coordination anda strong
brand strategy that

Plato s Views On Socrates
The most significant writings on Socrates came from one of his own disciples, Plato. Plato s writings
are the reason Socrates is historical figure he is today, without them Socrates would have been nothing
more than a minor presence (Navia 93). Plato s writings are classified as either early, middle, or late.
However, only the early writings best portray the real Socrates (Navia 105). These writings include the
Euthyphro, Crito, Phaedo, and most importantly the Apology, which discusses the trial and execution
of Socrates. Similarly Xenophon s dialogue of the same name also discusses the same subject. While
both authors demonstrate similar positions defending Socrates, their approach to their discussion
varies significantly.
Even though it is not known how close of a relationship Plato and Socrates had, it is very obvious that
Socrates played a major role in influencing philosophy into the life of Plato. Plato was born in Aegina
on 427 BCE and ultimately died in Athens in his school, The Academy, on 347 BCE (Navia 95). He
had two older brothers Glaucon and Adeimantus, and a half brother, Antiphon, who were also students
of Socrates. He was born into an aristocratic family involved in government, and in turn he would be
destined for a life involved in politics as well. However Plato avoided involvement in government
after witnessing all the corruptionmby his uncle, and as a result, leads to his first encounter with
Socrates as his pupil at the age of twenty (Navia 96).

The Mall of America (MOA) in Minneapolis opened its doors in the summer of 1992 to great fanfare.
Touted as the largest mall in the world, it was divided into four courts, each with its own dining areas.
For many people, the MOA represented the best and worst of the suburban shopping mall taken to its
ultimate extreme. The sheer size and scale of the mall was unprecedented, as were the entertainment
options; the centre of mall featured both an amusement park and an aquarium.
In many ways, though MOA was a far bigger immediate success than anticipated, its completion also
marked the beginning of a shift in mall culture. Shoppers started to turn away from the mega malls
and their food courts. People were looking for the more intimate civic

Also, understanding other people s perception of you speaks high volumes of your personal brand and
can help make you a successful leader. View your personal brand as a trademark; an asset that you
must protect while continuously molding and shaping it. Your personal brand is an asset that must be
managed with the intention of helping others benefit from having a relationship with you and / or by
being associated with your work and the industry you serve (Llopis, 2013).
Celebrities consult with marketing agents who uses three strategy efforts for personal branding. First,
the pure selling approach where an agent presents a client s qualifications to potential buyers until he
or she finds one who is willing to act as an intermediary (Solomon, Marshall, Stuart, 2016). Second,
the product improvement approach where an agent works with the client to modify certain
characteristics that will increase his or her market value (Solomon, Marshall, Stuart, 2016). And third,
the market fulfillment approach where an agent scans the market to identify unmet needs. After
identifying a need, the agent then finds a person or group that meets a set of minimum qualifications
and develops a new product (Solomon, Marshall, Stuart, 2016). Whether you use your personal brand
to consult, freelance, or drive more traffic and trust to your company, it s vitally important to establish

Why Cheer Is A Sport
Have you ever been seriously injured as an athlete due to wrong form, hard work, and intensity? If the
answer is yes, you understand the stress of a sport. You would also understand the passion of the sport,
and the respect and equality you know you deserve. Sports come with all kinds of stress, enjoyment,
building muscles, being sore, and it can shape you as a person. As people, we love sports. People often
argue what makes a sport a sport. Whether or not cheer is a sport is often argued and questioned. It is
usually thought of as a support team for other sports. Along with cheering on the sidelines at games,
most cheerleading squads participate in heated competitions to show their athleticism (Popoloski).

statistics that there are more injuries in cheer. Cheer is the leading sport in catastrophic injuries. 65.1%
of catastrophic injuries in high school athletics is accounted by cheer itself ( Barton). The injury rate
only grows in college cheerleading. Furthermore, the evidence from livescience.com confirms cheer is
by far exceedingly dangerous than any other sport to females. These injuries can result from several
different aspects in cheer. Girls are tossed, they tumble, lift people their own size, and requires a lot of
flexibility. Cheer is in need of medical support and supervision, simply like any other sport. Girls are
being thrown up to 20 feet in the air. They should get the same amount of medical treatment as any
other athlete. This isn t recognized at all, which is extremely dangerous. If cheer was supported and
considered an official sport, it would be much easier to receive the funding possible for the right
equipment such as mats, springboards and more to ensure safety among the cheerleaders. In todays
world, they do not have the funding, so they must use anything that they can. A myriad of times, you
see schools having a cheer sponsor rather than a cheer coach because they feel that it s not too salient
or considered a true sport. Cheer teams require several safety precautions, including an experienced
coach to make sure the athletes are safely trained (Delp). There is approximately 5,300 cheerleaders a
year in the United States that have to make a visit to the emergency room during football season. The
physical contact is dangerous without a coach to insure the right way to tumble, stunts, and pyramids.

Taking a Look at Regular Warfare
As noted in the Small Wars Manual (SWM), Regular war never takes exactly the form of any of its
predecessors, so, even to a greater degree is each small war somewhat different from anything that
preceded it. The SMW was originally published in 1935 and written as a response to a call for doctrine
after the Philippine War and numerous small wars in Central and South America, the banana wars.
Military leadership recognized the importance of irregular warfare and unfortunately due to World
War II, switched their focus towards regular warfare. However, some would argue that WWII ended
with a tone of irregular warfare due to the development and use of the atomic bomb. It was outside the
paradigm of Napoleonic styled warfare with massive unit formations facing each other on the plains of
battle. Since a vast majority of wars over the last 100 years have been fought using the irregular
warfare construct it would be extremely important for the US military to train and equip a sizable
piece of the force to focus on fighting an irregular war. However, this does not negate the need to train
and equip forces to fight a regular war. Our strategic policy should be to fully incorporate irregular
warfare into our defense industrial complex to provide for the greatest coverage of war contingencies.
Neither type of war should take priority over the other. In fact, each is dependent on each other. We
need the ships, planes, and tactical logistics equipment to provide irregular warfighters

have admired women s physical beauty according to their imaginations. However, their literary works,
the male dominated society and the female community have also served as accomplices in creating
notion about the beauty of women. In our society, it is believed that a woman should have fair skin,
hourglass figure and long hair to attain the title of a beautiful woman . This notion has degraded the
stature of the entire female community instead of elevating it. The revolutionary poet, Maya Angelou,
tried to break this notion by writing a poem to give tribute to an average looking woman who can
become trendsetter and leader in her field of interest despite of not having fair skin and the hourglass
figure. In the poem Phenomenal Woman , the author urges women to be proud of them and their
gender and to celebrate the womanhood instead of being ashamed of it.
Maya Angelou has been regarded as an acclaimed poet whose literary works focus on her real life
experiences (1). Phenomenal Woman falls into the category of poems based on the real life
experiences and the human truth. The author narrates the poem as the first person which reflects how
audacious personality Maya was. Being a modernist writer, Maya Angelou uses imagery to compare
her physical attributes such as her smile, gesture to the worldly objects. The use of symbolism is also

The Presidential Policy Directive Regarding The...
The Presidential Policy Directive regarding the organization of the National Security
Council System replaces all previous National Security Presidential Directives. This change allows
President Obama to shape the National Security Council to his liking, allowing for a more conducive
meeting structure for the designated attendees and chairs. The Presidential Policy Directive 1 seeks to
make the interagency aspect of the NSC more strategic, agile, transparent and predictable. The
Presidential Policy Directive 1 expanded the membership of the National Security
Council to include the Secretary of the Treasury, the Attorney General, Secretary of Homeland

6) What DNI organization serves as the IC s center for long term strategic analysis? What are the most
authoritative reports by which the DNI conveys to senior national security leaders the judgments of
the IC on strategic national security issues called?
The National Intelligence Council is the main body for mid and long term strategic thinking and
analytical reporting. The most authoritative written assessment is the NIC Global Trends report
written every four years and briefed to the incoming president between election day and the
inauguration. This report often prepares the president for what the intelligence community believes to
the upcoming global issues his presidency will have to content with and provides a analytical
speculation of future trends beyond the presidential term. To write an analytical product every four
years is problematic when intelligence is fleeting and importance is constantly shifting. Considering
the fact that the President receives the Presidential Daily Brief (PDB) on a daily basis, a more realistic
approach for the NIC is to produce a report biennially. The NIC can express its strategic analytical
concerns with the mid and long term twice within a

Augustus Statue Analysis
The piece of art that I chose was the statue of Augustus from the Department of Greek, Etruscan, and
Roman Antiquities. The statue itself is made of marble and shows the emperor Augustus in a flowing
toga holding a collection of scrolls. The body and the head appear to be from different time periods
with the head being typical of other depictions of Augustus contemporary to the time of his reign. The
body however appears to be more similar to work found during the hadrianic period making it several
centuries than the head. The common theory is that head and body were joined together sometime in
the eighteenth century when both pieces were stored in Venice. Overall, the statue despite being a
conglomerate work from different periods is a good

Marbury V. Madison
Marbury v. Madison On February 24, 1803 Chief Justice John Marshall and the rest of the Supreme
Court decided on the seemingly insignificant case of Marbury v. Madison. While ruling the Judiciary
Act of 1789 unconstitutional, Judicial Review was established. Granting the Supreme Court the power
to rule acts of the Legislative and/or Executive Branch of government unconstitutional, hence serving
as a landmark case that further legitimatized the Judicial Branch as a separate, but balanced branch of
government. Marbury v. Madison has been used as a very important precedent throughout our history
with 165 acts of Congress deemed unconstitutional as of 2010. In the Presidential election of 1800, the

William Marbury has a right to the commission. Next, since the answer is yes, does the United States
grant Marbury a remedy? Yes, William Marbury was rightfully commissioned to justice of the peace,
but his commission was not sent. Marbury s rights were violated so by law the United States must
grant Marbury a remedy. Thirdly, does the Supreme Court have the power to deem acts of Congress
unconstitutional? In the words of John Marshall, It is emphatically the province and duty of the
Judicial Department to say what the law is. Yes, it is the duty of the Supreme Court to determine
whether a law or action from both the Executive and Legislative Branch is deemed unconstitutional.
The next question dealing with the Judiciary Act of 1789, which was used by Marbury to petition the
Supreme Court with a Writ of Mandamus , Can Congress expand the scope of the Supreme Courts
original jurisdiction as specified under Article III of the U.S. Constitution? No, according to Chief
Justice John Marshall, Congress cannot grant the Supreme Court power. The Judiciary Act of 1789 is
deemed unconstitutional. Nowhere on the Constitution does is state that the Supreme Court has the
power to force Madison to commission Marbury. Lastly, Does the Supreme Court have original
Jurisdiction to issue a Writ of Mandamus ? Since the Judiciary Act was considered unconstitutional,

Human Capital As A Solution To Marx’S Problems With...
Human Capital as a Solution to Marx s Problems with Capitalism
Karl Marx, a German economic philosopher, argues in The Communist Manifesto that a capitalist
society allows the bourgeoisie, the owning class, to exploit the proletariat, the working class. Marx
rejects the idea that unions are a possible fix for the problems created by capitalism, but does not
consider the possibility of increasing human capital to solve the problems he sees with capitalism. By
increasing their human capital, the proletariat would gain independence from the bourgeoisie and be
able to profit off their labor, and the elimination of private property would become problematic.
To begin, I will explain why Marx believes that unions are insufficient solutions ... Show more content

Now, I will discuss the strength of Marx s argument for why the formation of unions is not a strong
enough solution to the problem of the bourgeoisie s exploitation of the proletariat. I agree with Marx
that the proposed solution of creating unions would not eliminate the exploitation of the proletariat.
Workers would still receive less than the value they create with their labor. The bourgeoisie continues
to possess all the power because the proletariat depends on them for their survival. However, it
appears that there is another cause for an increase in wages that would be problematic with Marx s
views that the bourgeoisie are exploiting the proletariat and the only solution is to eliminate private
property. This factor may be human capital, the skills, knowledge and experiences each person
possesses. Throughout his discourse, Marx seems to only consider physical capital and not human
capital. When human capital is included in Marx s arguments, some flaws in Marx s views are
realized. Therefore, I shall explain how the concept of human capital could be problematic to Marx s
views. First, unlike physical capital, everyone owns human capital including both the bourgeoisie and
the proletariat. If everyone has

Ohio Stepping Up Initiative Case Study
COLUMBUS A contingent from Wayne County participated in a conference in Columbus to
demonstrate its commitment to link those from the criminal justice and behavioral health fields to
tackle the problem of jails serving as treatment facilities for those with mental illnesses.
Making the trip to be part of the Stepping Up Summit were Commissioner Ann Obrecht; Executive
Director Judy Wortham Wood of the Mental Health Recovery Board; Capt. James Richards of the
Wayne County Sheriff s Office; Michelle Owney, probation officer with the Municipal Court; and
James Green, a consumer who volunteers at NAMI/MOCA House. Wayne County was one of 23
counties represented at the summit.

And she is not alone.
Former Ohio Supreme Court Justice Evelyn Lundberg Stratton, who will serve as project director of
the Ohio Stepping Up Initiative, said, Ohio has been a leader in establishing mental health and
veterans courts, developing Crisis Intervention Teams in law enforcement and other efforts to reform
the criminal justice system for persons with mental illness. ... Our work through the Stepping Up
Initiative will improve public safety, break the cycle of jail for persons with mental illness and
increase their access to treatment.
It s very exciting for Ohio to be one of the first states (along with California and Texas) to be selected
to implement the initiative, said Oney, adding it is well needed. The court systems have been
absorbing mental health cases, and people are ending up in jail and not getting the help they need, she
said.
Wayne County Municipal Court has a specialized docket for offenders with mental health issues. It is
named the HOPE Court (Helping Offenders Prosper Effectively), and Oney works with Judge Carol
White Millhoan on it. The focus with this docket is building on the positive steps people are making,
Oney said. It is an encouragement for the

A deadly plague has wiped out every one in the world over the age of twelve. Lisa is ten years old and
struggling to survive with her five year old brother, Todd. She decides to form a militia to protect her
family and community, against the dangerous gangs.
1. Mr. Williams house was one of abandoned places Lisa has robbed. She gathered essential food and
supplies for Todd and herself. During her visit, she found a letter to the owner s son explaining the
plague and a vaccine he could get. Lisa found it similar to the one her father wrote which was sent to
the Nelsons before he died in the hospital.

They planned to have supply trips and also have some put in storage. 5. Grand Avenue worked on the
defense plan because they needed the protection. Each house was armed with lots of security
including a unique alarm which was to be used when attacked, a guard dog and booby traps like
rockslides. Planks connected to every rooftop, a barbed wire fence lined the houses and signs were put
up everywhere. All children used a favorite weapon for attacking intruders, which they practiced
fighting imaginarily. Drills even occurred throughout the days. After a lucky victory over The
Chidester Gang one day, they celebrated and made it their holiday.
6.After the Nelson house was burnt down, because of Chidester Gang, Lisa and Todd take refuge at
Jill s orphanage. She decided that they would be more likely to win in battles if they didn t have to
fight at all, just defend. Lisa thought that an abandoned high school, Glenbard would be the perfect
place and so she tells the captains. The Grand Avenue citizens moved to the high school one night
secretly so no one would know. They had classes, jobs and dorms for every child family who lived
under a constitution of freedom.

him about his cruelness which made him feel ashamed of all his actions. The leader finally left silently
with his gang and Lisa was in charge once again.

Forrest Gump Historical Perspectives
Forrest Gump is a film based on a 1986 novel of the same name by Winston Groom and produced by
Robert Zemeckis. The film portrays several decades in the life of Forrest Gump, a slow witted, naïve
but goodhearted man from Greenbow, Alabama. Gump witnesses these events and in some cases
influences these events to happen (Wikipedia 1). In the midst of the film Jenny Curan, her childhood
friend and lover, appears throughout the film also taking part in some of these events. Forrest Gump
revises popular memories of the 1960 s and 1970 s through its representations of history (Wang 92).
Gump takes place in many comical but important historical events along with Jenny, such as, the
Hippie Movement, the Vietnam War, and the Ping Pong Diplomacy. To begin with, the Hippie
Movement occurred during the mid 1960 s. The Hippie Culture emerged mainly among the youth
population and their number one belief was their anti sentiments towards the Vietnam War. Hippies
were known for the type of music they listened to, their way of dressing, their openness to sexual
revolution and for the use of marijuana, LSD and shrooms . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Meanwhile, in recovery Forrest discovers he is a prodigy of ping pong. He then begins playing with
the U.S Army team and is then sent to play against the Chinese. Zemeckis demonstrates a clear
parallel to the term Ping Pong Diplomacy. This term comes from when the Chinese invited the
American ping pong team to play in Japan, for the World Table Tennis Championship in Beijing
(Berkowitz 40). The U.S gave its approval, since the President did want to improve relations with
Communist China (Berkowitz 40). Soon enough it was agreed that the American table tennis team
would also be used for foreign affairs. Many people do not know that the Ping Pong Diplomacy was in
fact something true that occurred in the 1970 s. The film successfully altered the Ping Pong
Diplomacy in an entertaining

  • 2. Cultural Diversity In The United States With so much cultural diversity in the United States, it is important to know how to properly communicate with others who don t share the same cultures as you. There are certain principles of cross cultural communication; they can be used to successfully communicate within diverse communities. The first principle says that the bigger the cultural or linguistic difference among people, the more likely there will be communication breakdown. The textbook gives the example Communicating with customers from Iran will likely lead to more communication difficulties for you than would be true if you were communicating with customers from England (Cheesebro, Thomas, Linda O Connor, and Francisco Rios (2010). • 3. Energy Price Volatility With Regards Natural Gas Executive Summary In this paper, energy price volatility with regards natural gas will be expounded on the essentials of market requisites. The report explains a number of factors that lead to price differences in the market and price volatility implications to oil and gas companies and industry. Supply and demand factors play a major role in shaping natural gas prices but factors such as war, environment and OPEC contribute to price differentials. Value at Risk (VaR) evaluates and quantifies risk for the industry as a risk management tool. Introduction Global economy is driven by energy markets. Energy does not only play a significant role in consumer products but also an important input in nearly all the industries. (Efimova O. and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Finally, recommendations and a conclusion made on natural gas price volatility based on the analysis and information discussed in this report. Overview Huntington H. G. 2009 mentions that recent changes in natural gas market are attributed to market forces and organizations operating in the industry. As the industry develops into new end user markets and producers, prices adjust according to the changes in the market. Due to the key roles of energy influence on global economic welfare, pricing is fundamental for correct and efficient choice of appropriate energy source. (Davis L. W. and Muehlegger E. 2010). Energy Information Administration (EIA) 2014 says the total gas consumption within industrial and electric power sectors in the U.S. will improve from 25.6 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) in 2012 to 31.6Tcf in 2040. Natural gas usage escalates in all sectors apart from residential due to population movement to warmer areas (EIA 2014) figure 1. For instance, in 2010 approximately 25% of energy consumed in the U.S. came from natural gas (Lv X. and Shan X. 2013). This indicates prices may adjust to demand changes accompanying its usage. Figure 1 Natural gas consumption in various sectors, 1990 2040 Source: EIA.2014 The World Market Intelligence 2015, points out that natural gas levels of production and consumption in the U.S. are ... A Chip Off the New Block Case Study #3: Contract for the International Sale of Goods A chip off the new block Semicontronics is an Australian manufacturing company that has been in the business of semi manufactured electronics for over a decade. Semicontronics has a solid reputation for meeting customer demands for quality products on time and on budget. The majority of Semicontronics customers are international, mid market manufacturing companies that produce generic electronics such as cell phones, digital media players and game consoles. Retail stores in foreign countries purchase the generic products and rebrand them for sale. Recently, Semicontronics has been approached by Phoneson to act as a supplier ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If Semicontronics can maintain its track record for supplying cost efficient, quality products on target, it could open an entire new customer market for expansion. While negotiating the supplier contract, Semicontronics realizes the memory in its current computer chips will have to be significantly increased to support the technical capabilities of Phoneson s electronics. Its current manufacturing plant in Brazil is not equipped to meet these new demands, and an upgrade at this stage in a new customer endeavor is not economically feasible for Semicontronics. Semicontronics realizes it must find a quality subcontractor with the capabilities to manufacture the Phoneson computer chips, including the enhanced memory requirements. Cash in your chips... After careful market research and consideration of options, Semicontronics decides to subcontract the computer chip manufacturing to Singatron, a relatively new electronics manufacturer in Singapore. Singapore has been a hotbed for electronics manufacturing, and Singatron was created by venture capitalist hoping to get a foothold in Singapore s electronics market, specifically, in the next generation of computer chips. Although Singatron markets itself as a top quality manufacturer, its lack of experience is proving to be a major obstacle to it winning contracts. • 6. Oskar Schindler Essay The Holocaust was a dark time in world history. Jews, Gypsies, Homosexuals and more were killed and cremated by the hands of the Nazis. There were a few, however, that fought the views of Adolf Hitler and attempted to save some of the victims of his cruelty. One of the greatest of these is Oskar Schindler. Oskar Schindler has been described as a crook, an alcoholic, and an insatiable womanizer. All of this may very well be true, but this factory owner was a hero to many Jewish men, women, and children. When those Jews were shipped to the concentration camp Plazsow, he would make the famed Schindler s list. This list was a promise, a promise to those who were on it, that they would not die at the hands of the Nazis. Since he was known to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 7. In The Air Between Us By Claude M. Steele Stereotype threat is a perception of fear that a person experiences in circumstances when they feel they may inadvertently confirm a negative stereotype of a social group in which they are a part of. The powerful effect of stereotype threat has been explored to determine the root of the issue, who is most susceptible and what can be done to lessen the negative impacts it imparts on victims. The essay In the Air between Us by Claude M. Steele examines the dynamic pressure stereotype threat places specifically on African American students in a collegiate academic setting. This essay uses compelling case studies to examine the everyday impact of this phenomenon, while searching for solutions to diminish its effect. Steele focuses her argument around high achieving, motivated black student s underachievement rooted in stereotype threat. She argues that students that are of equal intelligent level underperform due to subtle but powerful impacts of stereotypes, and that colleges can lessen these impacts by addressing the issue through creation of identity safety and diminishing of racial divides. This point is strongly proven through the study conducted by Woolf et al. (2008) where minority students underachieve in medical school due to decreased teacher interactions rooted in student classifications. If a safe identity space were created in this institution the classifications and ultimately racial divide would be nullified, leading to equal relationships amongst all students and teachers and ultimately opportunity for equal performance. Upon examination of Steele s essay and other case studies, stereotype threats biggest disadvantage lies in ultimate creation of unequal opportunities and testing environment ... • 8. Summary Of Richard Bensel s Yankee Leviathan Richard Bensel s Yankee Leviathan: The Origins of Central State Authority in America, 1857 1877, is a book on the formation of the United States Federal government during the Civil War and the Reconstruction eras. The book deals with the association of the Northern class and the Federal government. It provides a history of the economy during the Civil War and help to reveal why a socialist economy would not further the American economy. Bensel is of the belief that an independent state authority would be a better form of government. He contended the United States Federal government s growth was as a result of the Civil War during the Reconstruction era. The mobilization of the northern political economy for war, however, both provided the major impetus for state expansion and reshaped the antebellum agenda. The war had an even greater impact on the structure and substantive policies of the emergent Southern Confederacy (Bensel, 3). The war between the North and the South resulted in different governmental leaderships. The South substantially depended on internal market development like tobacco and cotton crops. To finance the war, the North depended on local banking institutions. As a result, during the Civil War, the Northern financial class grew substantially. New York became the state with one of the greatest banking institutions. In comparison, the South was empowered by statist elements and strict policies to organize the resources of the South (Bensel, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even though the background story of each of the family s lives differed, they all had a common basis in that they were Italian Immigrant families working a hard lifestyle in order to support the family during economic hardship. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cooking and baking is a central quality of this family s lifestyle. The narrative goes into great detail and this has to do with a cultural placement. For Giovanni s family, cooking and eating is a set of cultural rituals and the making of an experience. It is a part of a performance art, not just a consumption product. Another central quality of this family s lifestyle is essentially work. Puma writes: With Johnny s help, father and son would finish up by eleven instead of after midnight for the father alone. The next morning Johnny would still be sleepy, and his mother would tickle his toes until he climbed out of bed for breakfast with his sister and brother. By then his father would already be on the subway headed again for the pastry shop Downtown (From the Margins 86). This shows that Giovanni s life centers around work. Giovanni spends most of his time working about six days a week. He is doing this in order to support his family. In another scene when Johnny is making dough, he sees bugs in the flour, and Giovanni also accidentally knocks cigarette ashes into the flour. Giovanni shrugs it off as if it is no big deal. Giovanni is exhausted and he is simply being realistic and just wants to get work done. There are many operating systems to choose from. Some are created for personal use, some for business use, and some can be used for both. One of the biggest differences is whether the operating system is open source or closed source. Operating systems are created with programming code. There are many factors to consider when determining which system to use. The level of expertise of the user, the costs of the system and any add ons, and the flexibility of the system must all be considered. The type of application also plays some role in the decision. Both types can be found in personal, server, and mobile applications. However, open source systems are often found more in mobile and server applications. • 13. Ode To A Nightingale Critical Analysis Where does one go when he or she feels the need to disconnect from their reality ? People often seek to escape their reality physically, but also mentally by using imagination. Imagination allows one to disconnect from the real world problems that may cause fear, despairs, or isolation. In John Keats poem, Ode to a Nightingale discusses the idea of mortality and death throughout the poem by escaping reality. By looking at escapism, one can see the poet s struggle with physical and mental state, which most readers don t see; this is important because it shows symbolism through the nightingale. In Ode to a Nightingale Keats writes, My heart aches, and a drowsy numbness pains/ My sense, as though of hemlock I had drunk, comparing his heart ache to the drowsy numbness pains because his pain makes him lack physical sensation. By drinking the hemlock it is known he wants to escape and forget the heartache that does not make him feel by drinking the poison. The poets urge to forget is shown he drinks the poison One minute past, and Lethe wards had sunk , which refers to the river of forgetfulness. By drinking the poison and drowning in Lethe wards it symbolizes his urge to drown in urge to feel by feeling numb to the pain. It shows how to does not seek to face reality with his sorrow. Moreover, Keat arises the question of his mental and physical state by envying the nightingale by stating Tis not through envy of thy happy lot, / But being too happy in ... This interview paper sheds light onto another s understanding and thoughts regarding race relations in America. He said how this memory resonates with him because it was the first time he felt out of place because of something he couldn t control. George further explained the feeling as knowing on some level that everything was created with someone that was not him in mind, that society was not best fit for him to succeed. A second early childhood experience George remembers well is having a sit down conversation with his family where they told him that some people would discriminate against him and hate him just for the color of his skin. This was a very startling and nerve racking conversation for a young child to have. George feels that race has shaped his upbringing from the very start and these are just a few of the moments where race played a pivotal role in his early life. He believes that there is an innumerable amount of examples like these from his preschool days that are stuck in his subconscious. I had a lot of questions about it because of course it was all new to me with it being my first time going to an amusement park. I had asked about the big rides they have of course, the really popular water park they have at Six Flags, and of course I had to ask about the good amusement park food. As soon as I got there, my heart instantly dropped. I was at the park, and it was me and my family taking a trip to the best amusement park in missouri. We took off from the house, in Fulton, Missouri. It was about an hour and a half drive to get to Six Flags in St. Louis. We finally got there, the lines were super long, and the park was packed already at about eleven in the morning. Me and my little sister were both extremely excited to get past the long line, since it was both of our first time being there. We walk through the gate, and my heart instantly dropped on spot. The rides were super big. • 17. A Report On Healthsouth Used Bad Debt Reserves Essay whatsoever. Moreover, the amount of the accounts written off in any given year did not correlate with the allowance established for them. To the extent that these disclosures were reliable, these data indicate that HealthSouth used bad debt reserves to manipulate earnings. This lack of correlation could be an indirect indicator of the fourth warning sign of abusive earnings management: reserves that are not correlated with balance sheet items. Consider two related items related to uncollectible accounts, to further understand possible earnings management. First, there were disproportionately large allowance for doubtful accounts balances at the end of 1994 and 1995: nearly 40% of gross receivables. These existing balances could have been drawn down without the need to record an accurate provision for doubtful accounts. Consequently, the year end charge to bad expense, required to replenish the depleted contra asset account, could have been less than normally expected if the unadjusted allowance balance jibed with economic reality. By understating expenses in this manner, HealthSouth could have manufactured earnings beginning in the mid 1990s. These data provide some evidence of the classic cookie jar reserve ploy (Reed et al, 2003). The related issue is the amount of bad debt expense matched against revenues in 1999. As noted, that unusually large charge to earnings was made at the time when it became publicly known that HealthSouth could no longer hit its earnings target. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. Lenore Walker Cycle One may wonder why some individuals remain in the cycle of domestic violence even after instances of abuse. Should it not be easy for an individual to leave a partner who is inflicting pain and stress on him or her? Lenore Walker s (1979) model for the cycle of domestic violence explores the phases of domestic violence, the different types of abuse, and how these various phases contribute to the continuation of the cycle. Domestic violence is often diagnosed by obvious signs of physical abuse; however there are other unnoticeable patterns that one may not be able to immediately observe with the naked eye. Furthermore, domestic violence affects not only those who directly experience the abuse, but also those who are witnessing it, such as children (Behind Closed Doors, n.d.; Black, Sussman, Unger, 2010). It is important to recognize the the less obvious markers of intimate partner violence in order to break these patterns and work towards ending the cycles of transgenerational violence. In the model for cycle of domestic violence developed by Lenore Walker (1979), there are three phases in the cycle of abuse: tension building phase, acute battering phase, and the honeymoon phase. The tension building phase typically involves verbal abuse and conflict over matters such as finance and family (Walker, 1979). This first phase eventually leads to the battering phase, where physical abuse begins. Part of the reason why individuals who experience domestic violence do not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The term oppression encapsulates the fusion of institutional and systemic discrimination, personal bias, bigotry, and social prejudice in a complex web of relationships and structures that shade most aspects of life in our society (Bell, 1997). In one way or another every individual experiences some form of oppression, whether it be through race, sex, gender, religion, age, wealth and/or sexual orientation. • 23. The Effects Of Migration On Higher Educational Aspirations Introduction If one were to evaluate the impact of immigration, it can be said that it alters the way in which one interprets a certain culture or idea. Immigration can shape the way parents see the future of their child, specifically their academic and career aspirations. The parents may hold different expectations for their children, in terms of their desire for a better future for their children. However, it can also affect the manner in which the child accomplishes these goals. In this paper, I will examine the effects of migration on higher educational aspirations for the children of immigrants, because it is important to note how the migrant s experience influences the desires for their children. I will focus on the three reasons that can influence their aspirations: motivations for migration, expectations for children and academic performance of the children. I argue that to fully understand how migration affects educational aspirations, it is necessary to focus on the reasons that migration was made possible for Latina migrant womens, considering the economic and political histories of Latin America and the United States. It is also important to note what the educational aspirations are, and to consider the academic performances of the children of migrant workers, to see whether or not they are living up to these expectations. Results demonstrate that the outcomes can be mixed, as some children may live up to the aspirations while others are held back due to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some are regulated by the government while others are completely banned altogether. We fear the risk of the latter in particular, which includes heavy and hard drugs like cocaine, methamphetamines, and heroin. However, as time goes on, we change and so do our perspectives. We realize that some things are not as foreboding as we once thought. These substances could actually be of benefit to our society and we inhibit its ability to do so through the reinforcement of age old and faulty drug policy. This is the case with cannabis, otherwise known as marijuana. As of now, it is illegal to buy, sell, possess, or use marijuana in any shape or form, but with the times changing and medical marijuana becoming more popular, the question remains: should marijuana be legalized all across the United States of America? With the benefits it could bring with its social both concerning the issues around harder drugs and prison overpopulation and medical uses, as well as its less harmful effects when compared to the legal substances of tobacco and alcohol, marijuana could be a profitable asset to our society if it were to be legalized, and I believe that we should strive for that outcome. Vertigo Themes Film Analysis 1: The Power of Vertigo I remember watching Vertigo for the first time back when I was still very young, but at the time, I didn t really understand anything about the movie. As I watched it again as I grew older, I learned to appreciate how great this movie really is and the special narrative style that the movie presented. Vertigo, to me, was always known as Alfred Hitchcock s best film. Most of Hitchcock s well known films like Psycho or North by Northwest have unique title sequences that were an important part of their respective themes and narratives. For Vertigo s title sequence, it starts with an extreme close up of a woman s lips, which suggests the foreshadowing of Judy s role in the movie. The intro then shifts to the person s eyes, while the eyes, referencing the idea of looking and watching like what Scottie will do for the most part of the movie. Visual motifs were presented during this sequence such as the spinning spiral patters. These were motifs that are carried through into the narrative. The film is about John Scottie Ferguson, a detective who suffers from acrophobia, which is probably the reason for the title Vertigo . He has guilt complex over what happened in the beginning of the movie when the police officer fell off and died. Other authors have related IMC to the decline in perceived effectiveness of television advertising, which encouraged organizations to divert resources toward a variety of other media (e.g., Duncan and Everett 1993; Kitchen and Schultz 1999; Rust and Oliver 1994). For the tobacco industry and companies such as ITL, regulated restrictions on access to different media further compelled them to seek a variety of nontraditional media. The case study of ITL and the Player s trademark is particularly interesting because the legal and political environment facing the firm has seemingly accelerated its move toward an IMC mind set and structure. Conceptually, IMC provides a useful theoretical context for illustrating the image development of particular cigarette brands, particularly in the context of understanding how tobacco companies attempt to use recurrent themes and strategies when making the transition from one mode of promotion to another. We acknowledge that IMC is not simply a multimedia coordinated campaign, and Duncan and Mulhern (2004) have noted that IMC is more than just tactical consistency, usually referred to as one voice, one look. Plato s writings are the reason Socrates is historical figure he is today, without them Socrates would have been nothing more than a minor presence (Navia 93). Plato s writings are classified as either early, middle, or late. However, only the early writings best portray the real Socrates (Navia 105). These writings include the Euthyphro, Crito, Phaedo, and most importantly the Apology, which discusses the trial and execution of Socrates. Similarly Xenophon s dialogue of the same name also discusses the same subject. While both authors demonstrate similar positions defending Socrates, their approach to their discussion varies significantly. Even though it is not known how close of a relationship Plato and Socrates had, it is very obvious that Socrates played a major role in influencing philosophy into the life of Plato. Plato was born in Aegina on 427 BCE and ultimately died in Athens in his school, The Academy, on 347 BCE (Navia 95). He had two older brothers Glaucon and Adeimantus, and a half brother, Antiphon, who were also students of Socrates. He was born into an aristocratic family involved in government, and in turn he would be destined for a life involved in politics as well. The injury rate only grows in college cheerleading. Furthermore, the evidence from livescience.com confirms cheer is by far exceedingly dangerous than any other sport to females. These injuries can result from several different aspects in cheer. Girls are tossed, they tumble, lift people their own size, and requires a lot of flexibility. Cheer is in need of medical support and supervision, simply like any other sport. Girls are being thrown up to 20 feet in the air. They should get the same amount of medical treatment as any other athlete. This isn t recognized at all, which is extremely dangerous. If cheer was supported and considered an official sport, it would be much easier to receive the funding possible for the right equipment such as mats, springboards and more to ensure safety among the cheerleaders. In todays world, they do not have the funding, so they must use anything that they can. A myriad of times, you see schools having a cheer sponsor rather than a cheer coach because they feel that it s not too salient or considered a true sport. In A Time Of Immense Racial Strife, Lorraine Hansberry Tales In a time of immense racial strife, Lorraine Hansberry a well respected African American author, civil rights and sexual equality advocate wrote some of the most influential works of her time. Tenacious and resilient, Hansberry explicitly shared her views on sexual identity, race relationships and identity. Being a successful, black, woman playwright during the 1900 s meant that she had encountered not only racism in her time, but also had to go through deciding just what being black meant during the Civil Rights Movement. In her play Les Blancs, a scholarly African man Tshembe, returns from Europe to Africa to attend his father s memorial service. His home is imbued with the intense hatred that is a result of the ongoing struggle between European colonies and those native to Africa, strongest around a small, make shift hospital made by missionaries. There is underlying tension between him and the white colonists at first. There are a few snide remarks that him and the colonist casually woven into every conversation they have. Very quickly, their implicit hatred warps into a full blown feud. Most of the colonists believe that Africa is their rightful home since the Africans had it for so long and did nothing with it (90). The colonist had a specific standard of civilization which Africa did not meet. Therefore, when the colonist got there and started to form Africa into something that loosely resembled their homeland, they felt that they were entitled to Africa. Additionally, they believe that there is sacredness of a white life (105) and that white people must be protected and valued at all cost because one white life taken ... • 42. Taking a Look at Regular Warfare As noted in the Small Wars Manual (SWM), Regular war never takes exactly the form of any of its predecessors, so, even to a greater degree is each small war somewhat different from anything that preceded it. The SMW was originally published in 1935 and written as a response to a call for doctrine after the Philippine War and numerous small wars in Central and South America, the banana wars. Military leadership recognized the importance of irregular warfare and unfortunately due to World War II, switched their focus towards regular warfare. However, some would argue that WWII ended with a tone of irregular warfare due to the development and use of the atomic bomb. It was outside the paradigm of Napoleonic styled warfare with massive unit formations facing each other on the plains of battle. Since a vast majority of wars over the last 100 years have been fought using the irregular warfare construct it would be extremely important for the US military to train and equip a sizable piece of the force to focus on fighting an irregular war. However, this does not negate the need to train and equip forces to fight a regular war. Our strategic policy should be to fully incorporate irregular warfare into our defense industrial complex to provide for the greatest coverage of war contingencies. Neither type of war should take priority over the other. In fact, each is dependent on each other. We need the ships, planes, and tactical logistics equipment to provide irregular warfighters ... • 44. The Celebration Of Womanhood By Maya Angelou The Celebration of Womanhood Women s beauty has been one of the favorite subjects of many literary works. Many genius authors have admired women s physical beauty according to their imaginations. However, their literary works, the male dominated society and the female community have also served as accomplices in creating notion about the beauty of women. In our society, it is believed that a woman should have fair skin, hourglass figure and long hair to attain the title of a beautiful woman . This notion has degraded the stature of the entire female community instead of elevating it. The revolutionary poet, Maya Angelou, tried to break this notion by writing a poem to give tribute to an average looking woman who can become trendsetter and leader in her field of interest despite of not having fair skin and the hourglass figure. In the poem Phenomenal Woman , the author urges women to be proud of them and their gender and to celebrate the womanhood instead of being ashamed of it. Maya Angelou has been regarded as an acclaimed poet whose literary works focus on her real life experiences (1). Phenomenal Woman falls into the category of poems based on the real life experiences and the human truth. • 49. Human Capital As A Solution To Marx’S Problems With... Human Capital as a Solution to Marx s Problems with Capitalism Karl Marx, a German economic philosopher, argues in The Communist Manifesto that a capitalist society allows the bourgeoisie, the owning class, to exploit the proletariat, the working class. Marx rejects the idea that unions are a possible fix for the problems created by capitalism, but does not consider the possibility of increasing human capital to solve the problems he sees with capitalism. By increasing their human capital, the proletariat would gain independence from the bourgeoisie and be able to profit off their labor, and the elimination of private property would become problematic. To begin, I will explain why Marx believes that unions are insufficient solutions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now, I will discuss the strength of Marx s argument for why the formation of unions is not a strong enough solution to the problem of the bourgeoisie s exploitation of the proletariat. I agree with Marx that the proposed solution of creating unions would not eliminate the exploitation of the proletariat. Workers would still receive less than the value they create with their labor. The bourgeoisie continues to possess all the power because the proletariat depends on them for their survival. However, it appears that there is another cause for an increase in wages that would be problematic with Marx s views that the bourgeoisie are exploiting the proletariat and the only solution is to eliminate private property. This factor may be human capital, the skills, knowledge and experiences each person possesses. Throughout his discourse, Marx seems to only consider physical capital and not human capital. When human capital is included in Marx s arguments, some flaws in Marx s views are realized. Therefore, I shall explain how the concept of human capital could be problematic to Marx s views.
