Essay War Against Terrorism
Writing an essay on the topic of "War Against Terrorism" is indeed a challenging task that
requires a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter, critical thinking skills, and the
ability to articulate complex ideas coherently. The topic itself is multifaceted, encompassing
political, social, economic, and ethical dimensions. The challenge lies in navigating through the
intricate web of historical events, geopolitical complexities, and the evolving nature of terrorism.
Crafting a compelling essay involves extensive research to gather relevant information, statistics,
and examples that support the arguments made. The writer must delve into the root causes of
terrorism, analyze the strategies employed in the war against it, and assess the global
implications of counter-terrorism efforts. Additionally, addressing the ethical dilemmas
surrounding counter-terrorism measures and the impact on civil liberties adds another layer of
complexity.
The challenge further intensifies when attempting to strike a balance between presenting an
unbiased analysis and expressing a personal perspective on the matter. Crafting a coherent and
persuasive thesis statement is crucial, as it serves as the foundation for the entire essay.
Developing a structured outline to organize thoughts and arguments is equally important to
ensure a logical flow of ideas.
Moreover, maintaining clarity in communication while navigating through the intricate details of
terrorism and counter-terrorism efforts is a demanding task. Balancing depth of analysis with
conciseness can be challenging, as the writer must avoid both oversimplification and excessive
complexity.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the "War Against Terrorism" demands a combination of
research skills, critical thinking, and effective communication. It requires a writer to navigate
through a complex web of historical, political, and ethical considerations while presenting a well-
supported argument. Success in this task hinges on the ability to synthesize information,

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
There are various problems that face the companies operating in the industries
critical to technology. One of the companies is HID Asia Pacific Limited. The
company operates in the technology industry. This means that its products offer
technological services and solutions. The market for such products is always
available. The reason is that the products have become a necessity in the recent few
decades. People depend more on technology for security, validation as well as other
activities, both at home and in businesses. This means that a company like HID Asia
Pacific Limited does not have a hard time finding the market for its products.
Despite the readily available market, the company, just like others in the industry,
faces enormous challenges. The reason is that the industry is sensitive to the changes
in technology as well as other factors that are not related to technology. The
challenges mostly affect the sales that are made ... Show more content on

The Supreme Court Is The Court
The American Supreme Court is the highest court in the country. The Supreme
Court has the final say in issues that have been brought to lower court s but have
been unresolved. The job of the Supreme Court is to determine if the Constitution
says what the end result of an issue should be. The Supreme Court was designed to
be unbiased and make it s choices purely based on what the law says. The nine
people who are appointed to the Supreme Court are called Justices. They are
elected to their position for the remainder of their life or until their resignation. As
a result of the tenure given to a Justice spots do not open up often at all. The
President nominates the Justice based on a few factors. First off experience is
required. Many of the Justices where judges in a lower court such as the Court of
Appeals or had a very well respected private practice. Secondly the President often
nominates someone who shares his own political ideology. If the President is a
conservative it is likely that he will appoint a conservative judge to the Supreme
Court. Lastly gender and ethnicity have recently become a factor in a Presidents
decision. Up until 1967 all of the Justices had been white males to fix this problem
Lyndon Johnson appointed Thurgood Marshall the first black Justice. Later Ronald
Reagan appointed Sandra Day O Connor the first female Justice. However a
presidential nomination is not enough to be a Justice. The nominee must be
confirmed by the Senate also by a majority vote.
Observable Differences In Nursing
The observable difference was the intensity of the experiences revealed by the
participants. With regard to familial, social, personal and vocational level, these girls
have challenges in a different manner. However, the result clearly showed that the
daughters of non institutionalized mothers are more vulnerable than the daughters of
institutionalized mothers. As a result of the mental illness of the motheraffected the
whole trajectory of the development of these daughters.
Another important observation is that a good number of the participants are unable to
identify and accept their femininity and grow into the full actualization of it and still
remain at high risk of being abused physically, sexually and emotionally. They tend to

The Views Of The Klondike Gold Rush
Many people risked their lives in order to seek riches and gold, only to find
challenges along the way.
During the late 1800s, many people joined, what was called, the Klondike Gold
Rush in order to be rich . This story is told in the article Klondike Gold Rush , the
passage A Woman Who Went to Alaska, and the video City of Gold. The people s
points of view in these sources are different, but share a same idea of the Klondike
Gold
Rush which helps a reader better understand the idea using those different
perspectives. Mainly, the ideas of these sources is to tell readers of the difficult
situations that miners had to face during that time where they believed they could be
rich . Klondike Gold Rush tells mainly the story of the time, and the difficulties it

of teh Klondike gold rush as to focusing on how the riches described were very

who seeked to become rich, which gives the reader a better understanding of the
disappointing conditions these miners had to face. The author starts of talking
about the gold rush, but how the Candian government has taken advantageof it. It

reserved for the crown to show readers how gold was really never for the miners, it
was for the government. This point of

Work For My Father s Electric Company Essay
This previous summer I was graced with the opportunity to work for my father s
electric company. The job entailed driving a thirteen foot tall box truck with a
coworker to Umpqua banks in Oregon and Washington that had relocated or closed
down and decommissioning them by removing all technology equipment. That
includes: computers, cash counters, printers, telephones, and anything that uses
electricity. We would take every piece of technology and catalog them into an excel
sheet with their serial and model numbers. Most the trips we went on to
decommission the banks would entail us having to spend the night in hotels. I made
$12.50 per hour, a generous raise from making minimum wageat my previous jobs.
The first trip I was sent on was with Jon, a heavyset man with a buzz cut. Not long
after we left the company shop for Medford, we took a pit stop at his house so he
could change out of jeans into shorts for the drive. He told me the boss, my dad, didn t
like to see his guys working in the field wearing anything but jeans, but assured me
we wouldn t see any customers that day. I drove us to the first bank in Medford.
The bank was desolate; everything was there except the people. I walked around
and stood in the teller booths, found the silent emergency buttons, and walked inside
the vault. Jon and I devised a system; he placed technology on the cart, and I
scanned it into the computer. Jon also took over the banks speakers and was the DJ.
I enjoyed working with Jon and the
Realism In Marcel Carne s Les Enfants Du Paradis
Carolina Alvarez Les Enfants du Paradis
The disillusionment of the Germans after World War 1 led to the rise of the racist
Nazi Party. They put the blame on innocent Jewish people as the cause of all their
problems. The Nuremburg laws were the beginning of the harsh treatment of the
scapegoats. Hitler planned to invade Europe to create his perfect society of blonde
haired, blue eyed Aryans. As Germany was invading France in 1940, the lives of
the French would change in every aspect of their lives. In Marcel Carne s Les
Enfants du Paradis, one can see that it fits into other movies that were made during
the German invasion of France. It follows the restrictions that were put on by Nazi
Party but also broke some rules to keep their artistic integrity and used it as a
means of escapism for the people of France. Les Enfants du Paradis tells the story
in a poetic realist way that was a very popular movie in 1945. Poetic realism centers
around working class characters and the theme of doomed love, the blending of
comedy and tragedy, the use of long shots and long takes, and narratives that
function as critiques of society (Glover). The movie revolves around 4 male
characters and their doomed love for a woman who choices affect everyone. Rotten
Tomatoes describes it as:
Even in 1945, Marcel Carne s Children of Paradise was regarded as an old fashioned
film. Set in the Parisian theatrical world of the 1840s, Jacques Prevert s screenplay

Compare and Contrast Essay (Aztec and Incas)
Gabriella LoBue May 14, 2013 Mrs. McAulayGlobal 9H
The Aztec and Inca Empires arose 1000 to 1500 century C.E. in Mesoamerica and
South America. The Aztecs arrived in central Mexico approximately the fifteenth
century. The Incas settled in the region around Lake Titicaca about mid thirteenth
century and by the late fifteenth century, the Incas had built an enormous empire
stretching more the 4,000 kilometers. Both empires were enormous, the Incan Empire
ended up being the largest state in South America. Neither empire had developed a
written language, but they did come up with a way to remember things and keep

Long distance trade fell under the supervision of the central government and
administrator s organized exchanges of the agricultural products. The Incas came up
with their own writing system called quipu. Quipu consisted of an array of small
cords of various and lengths, all suspended from large thick cord, unlike the Aztecs
system which was just symbols. The Incan social structure was based upon hereditary
aristocrats, consisting of rulers, priests, and peasant cultivators. Like the Aztecs the
Incas performed bloodletting rituals, the sacrificial subject was just an animal instead
of a human. The Incans considered the sun as a god and as their major deity, called
Inti. They also recognized the moon, stars, planets, rain, and other natural forces as
divine. Many of the differences between the Aztecs and the Incas benefited the two
by becoming successful, striving, powerful regions. The Aztec and Incan empires both
had strong armies. In the Aztec empire by the early fifteenth century the Aztecs were
powerful enough to overcome their immediate neighbors and demand tribute. During
the middle decades of the fifteenth century, the military elite that ruled much of
Tenochtitlan, the Aztecs launched ambitious campaigns of imperial expansion. Know

maximizes attainment of his or her goals, values, or objectives11.
The outcome of this modus operandi is a rational decision that is, one that most

11. Rational decisions bring about either large and basic or limited changes in public
policies. Perhaps it is important to note that these decisions are more often than not in
line with the ideals and aspirations of elites, who are happy with the political situation
as it stands. Thus, this contributes (I submit) to the wide usage of the rational model
within the fraternity of management policy and decision making.

rational model, some authors continue to view it as an ideal. An idealized model of
rational policymaking process consists of a „rational individual‟ undertaking
the following sequential activities: 1. A goal for solving a problem is established 2.
All significant consequences of each alternative strategy are predicted and the
probability of those consequences occurring is estimated. 3. Finally, the strategy that
most nearly solves the problem or solves it at least cost is selected12. 4. All alternative
The Story Of Chocolat By Joanne Harris
Chocolate, what a lovely treat. A treat that unfortunately, was frowned on by Le
Comte in the story of Chocolat. The story of Chocolat by Joanne Harris takes place
in the year of 1959 in a small village in Paris. The main character, Vianne, comes
from a culture that has an ancient Mayan recipe for chocolate. Chocolat uses motifs
and allusions of the north wind, lent rebellion and culture to present Vianne with
difficult situations making her seem more Christ like.
Wanting to continue her mother s tradition and culture, Vianne, travels to different
villages opening chocolatieres. Vianne believes when the north wind blows it is a
sign of her mother summoning her to another village. As oppose to some of the
critics on this story, which believe the north wind is a pagan belief of travel, the
north wind idea could be viewed as the Holy Spirit. In the Bible the Holy Spirit is
viewed as a summoning voice directing you in the ways of the Lord. But the
Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you
all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you (John 14:26 NIV).
If we view the north wind as the Holy Spirit immediately a different perspective is
given of the way Vianne handles her decision making. Vianne says in the movie
whatever you say mother as she is looking to the urn where ashes lay, and listening
to the wind beat against her windows, therefore, imposing she believes the wind is
her mother s spirit speaking to her. I

Essay On Factory Farming
Do you know what your meal went through to get to your plate and how it is
affecting your day to day life? Factory farming is an industrial type operation that
uses large quantities of animals to provide food fast and efficiently. Almost all the
meats and animal byproducts that we consume, cause harm and pain to the animals
as they go through the cycle of factory farmingand it might cause issues affecting
your health. Factory farming is unethical because the practices are uneconomical,
unsanitary, and unnecessary. Factory farming is raising livestockwith one intent in
mind, which is getting money fast while spending little. They use shortcuts to make
production more efficient, but do so without the animal s wellbeing in mind. Some
people agree with the prospects of factory farming because they benefit economically.

We can farm large amount of animals for food and production and not have to treat
them bad and use bad practices. We can put rubber tip nubs on the chickens beaks
so that they won t hurt one another pecking. We can put sanitary coating on a cow s
tail so that it won t spread diseases from urine and manure onto the utters. We
should pass more laws that will apply to all animals. Everything that was fed and
put into your dinner gets put into you, such as growth hormones, artificial food, and
unnatural products. Therefore, I believe that we should treat the animals we use
during factory farming with a little more respect and not abuse them. In conclusion,

Functionalist View On Prostitution
To begin, I believe that society defines when lifestyle choices become social
problems. Society can be defined as an organized group of people that are
associated together for religious, benevolent, cultural, scientific, political,
patriotic, or other purposes (Dictionary Reference. 2015). Individuals develop their
own opinions about certain social problems. This results in people forming groups
based on their opinions and these groups are known as society. An example of
society determining what a social problem is would be prostitution. Prostitution
can be considered a social problem because society has such a diverse view on it.
Functionalists believe that the existence of such deviance is needed in order to
produce stability in society (Kendall, D. 2012). Functionalists believe that
prostitution allows people to engage in sexual practices and benefits the economy
by creating jobs for people with limited education and job skills (Kendall, D. 2012).
The symbolic interactionist believes that prostitution is a business deal that provides
women with a way to earn money while satisfying other people s needs. The conflict
perspective believes that prostitution should be decriminalized because individuals
are participating in this act by free will (Kendall, D. 2012). Others may believe that
prostitution is immoral and should be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, people who abuse drugs put others at risk whenever they decide to
operate automobiles. Not only is this action illegal, but it is potentially harmful
because drugs reduce clarity and reduce an individual s motor skills, which could
result in a harmful or fatal accident (Kendall, D. 2012). Also, sex trafficking crosses
the line and creates problems for individuals because individuals are being forced to
participate in sexual activities against their own free

Analysis Of Bitner s Servicecape ( Fig ) Essay
Bitner s Servicecape (Fig:1) and M R (Fig:2) below indicates proposed framework
to use as foundation for this study. For example, academics must analyse relevant
literature, theories and analytical models that are relevant to the framework, and are
related to the area of study. And the selected theory must also depend on the
applicability, ease of execution and justifications. Figure 1: Servicecape Model by
Mary J Bitner
Bitner s framework can be a useful tool in enhancing a food and beverage experience
while certain servicescape components are emphasized (Bitner, 1992). Figure 2: M R
Model
This modified M R Model has extended to test various service environments such as
restaurants, hotels, casinos, sports stadiums and events. And this theory has been
widely proposed by researchers, and has been successfully adopted by services
organisations (Wakefield Blodgett, 2016). Thus, we will apply this framework in our
study, as it is a suitable fit for identifying the influence of the restaurant environment
on consumer behaviour.
Methodology
Design: The aim of the current study is exploring the influence of restaurant
environment on consumer behaviour. In gathering the primary data, an administered
survey questionnaires will be distributed to participants (the diners) at nominated
restaurants, while they are awaiting for their checks or as they are preparing to leave
after meals. This method ensures that the participants will give realistic responses

judicial branch, similar to the federal government. Each branch has its own duties and
ways to check the other branches as to ensure no one has too much, or all, the power.
The executive branch contains the governor, lieutenant governor, the secretary of
state, attorney general, and several other commissioners and executives. The
legislative branch contains the TexasHouse of Representative and the Texas Senate.
The Judicial branch contains the Texas Supreme Court, the Texas Court of Criminal

The lieutenant governor, Dan Patrick, is the presiding officer over the Texas
Senate. Unlike the Speaker, the lieutenant governor does not have the same
amount of control over the Senate because Senate debates are unlimited in time.
The Speaker and lieutenant governor together can be considered two of the most
powerful politicians in Texas (Chamagne, Anthony, and Edward J. Harpham 219).
The Speaker and lieutenant governor are instrumental in appointing members to
committees, which allows them to appoint members who are loyal to them
Regular sessions of the legislature are held for 140 days in odd numbered years, as
dictated by the Texas Constitution. In addition to regular session, special sessions
may be called by the governor in case there was unfinished business at the end of
the regular session or a problem has arisen. While special sessions are required to
be 30 days or less, there is no limit to the number of special sessions that may be
called. The legislative branch is responsible for the introduction and passing of bills
and resolutions. With the exception of revenue bill, all bills may introduce in either
the house or the senate. Since legislators are elected to represent a group of
constituents, they are expected to work on behalf of the constituents. Legislators may
introduce a bill on behalf of their constituents or make public speeches and

Renaissance Influence On The Historical And Social...
Renaissance Influence on the Historical and Social Significance of Self Portraiture
During the Renaissance, artists were acquiring status and the technical means to
create a new genre of art called self portraiture (Bond). Portraits are defined as
having a likeness of a specific individual (Adams). However, self portraits do not only
have a likeness of the artist but also a sense of psychology that connects the viewer to
the artist. This connection gives the self portrait a depth of complexity that even
portraits do not always achieve. Following the development of self portraiture, one
must transverse the development of portraiture. Then one must follow self portraits
connection to portraiture and self portraits own unique development. Then one must
recognize the influence of the society on the value of the artist and their artworks. In
order to understand the significance of the development of self portraiture, one must
have some familiarity with the history of portraiture and its development as a whole.
Portraiture is a facet of the artistic community that retains a deep history from
multiple ancient cultures. In Ancient Egyptian, around fifteen thousand B.C., artists
carved out portraits, mostly of the pharaohs. Also, many of the portraits created were
meant to reside in the patron s tomb upon his or her death. These portraits or
funerary statues provided a physical form for the spirit to use in the afterlife (Walker,
Appendix 1). Around two hundred B.C., Romans seemed

The Foreigner
Recently, the performers at Rollins College put on the two act comedy The Foreigner
by Larry Shue, directed by Thomas Ouellette. This brilliantly crafted show touches on
themes of racism, prejudice, and religious corruption in the American south during
the 1900 s. Along with the well crafted storyline, every theatrical element seemed to
blend together perfectly to create a strong harmony throughout the show. It is no
wonder that the comedy by Larry Shue became a staple at regional theaters after its
initial two year Off Broadway run , considering how thought provoking yet down to
earth it is. (Jacobson)

Although there was no singing, dancing, or music (other than the intro, outro, and
radio music), the director made some very strong moves in regards to the blocking. In
high school, I was taught that blocking consists of business, movement, and gesture. I
think this show took advantage of every opportunity for blocking to advance the
storyline. When the actors moved downstage, they received the audience s attention as
planned, and vice versa. When the actors moved upstage, the audience s attention
then shifted to whoever was closest or in the strongest acting position. The director
himself has strong ties towards the show; being cast as the main role of Charlie on
two different occasions when he was young, this adds a personal element to the
production here at Rollins.
From an audience s perspective, a performer and their costume merge into one entity
(Wilson, 2011). The costume that was the biggest eyesore was Froggy s military
attire. As everything in the show has a rural, old fashioned theme, he brought
something totally different to the picture: camouflage fatigues. The costume that I
was most impressed by, though, was Ellard s. His outfit was a physical
representation of what people thought of him. He had disheveled hair, dirty overalls
half undone, and a messy shirt underneath. Ellard was perceived by those around him
as mentally challenged, and his costume conveyed that through his lack of awareness

Top Brain Foods For Mental Focus
Top Brain Foods for Mental Focus Mental focus and concentration is one of the
keys to athletic excellence. How many times have you seen a team take the lead
during a game, but then blow the lead later in the game by allowing the opposing
team to come back and take the win? It s no surprise that the lack of focus from an
athlete or an athletic team can lead to disappointing ties or loses. This is why it is
important that athletes keep their head in the game and remain focused. When
athletes are in the zone they are not as easily distracted and they are totally
involved with what they are doing. In this state, it s like time has stopped and they
are tuned in to the task at hand. One of the most important skills in sports is having

Conflict And Conflict In The Distant Past By William Trevor
The Distant Past is a short story, wrote by William Trevor, addresses the
interweaving of the past and present. At first in the story, it seems as if the past
tensions between the British and Irish have evaporated and happening a good cultural
encounter but later in the story, this assumption proves to be untrue. It depicts the
lives of two descendants of the Protestant Middleton family and Old Irish inhabitants
in a time of the Troublesin the 1970s. The story focuses on the conflict between the
Irish Catholic townspeople and the brother and sister of the Middleton Family, who
are loyal to the Protestant British, and there were the main characters in this story.
Conflicts between the two religions date back to the 12th century when... Show more

Both the inhabitants of the town and Middletons are shocked and unhappy about the
events, they share the same opinion on the situation. At first, it seems that the
violence in the different country will not change the relationship between
Middletons and their friends. But gradually with disappearing the atmosphere of
tolerance and acceptance from the town, and the people losing their fortunes and
they remember the unsettled past. The ideas start to be suspicious towards
Middletons for their affinity with England the lingering connection between the
Middletons, England, and past makes them ostracised again, the same way as they
were in the distant past . And start to avoid them. The people start to behave
towards Middletons the same way as they did in the distant past . Then got back
the old animosity of the locals versus Middletons, even though they do not have
anything to do with wakening the Troubles is again. The siblings lose the respect
and friends. After many years of tolerance and friendship, they become ostracised
the same way as they were in the past. Middletons do not expect that the tolerance

tourists, the source of income to many locals, stop coming to the area because they
are afraid of the violence. The town stops flourishing. As anger rose in the town at
the loss of fortune so there rose also the kind of talk there had been in the distant

and the rights of people . With the loss of prosperity, people start to remember the
violence and suspicions, which they felt in the past. The coming of British soldiers in
Northern Ireland reminds the old times as well. Gradually, the locals stop talking to

Paris in the 1920’s – “The Lost Generation”
Essay
Paris in the 1920 s The Lost Generation
Between the end of the First World War and Hitler s seizure of power a cultural
explosion occurred in Paris that altered our notions of art and reality and shaped
our way of viewing the world ever since. In the 1920 s, Paris became the
undisputed international capital of pleasure and was regarded as the cultural and
artistic center of Europe with a reputation for staging one of its most glamorous
eras, as well as some of the most spectacular revues in the world. Imagine for a
moment, that it really is 1920 s Paris. You are leisurely strolling through the gas lit
promenades. World War I is over and the exuberance of jazz musicians, symbolist

By the end of the decade, statistics revealed that there were as many as thirty
thousand artists in Paris alone.
The Lost Generation is essentially a term that is used to describe the young adults
of the 1920 s who were changing with the times and rebelling against what America
had become after the war. They populated areas like Paris and London where they
expected to find literary freedom and a cosmopolitan way of life. The Lost Generation
of American writers and poets left America, seeking refuge from the broken
culture and devastation that had come from the war, and ended up in Paris, a city
that had a thriving art culture where they could write freely and lavish in the
Bohemian lifestyle without rules. They drank, traveled, had love affairs, and
wrote. They were influenced by the paintings of artists like Dada and Picasso and
collected their works, as well as socialized with them. They critiqued each other s
writing and often met in bookstores, cafГ©s, and bars to talk about their works and
life in general. They had mostly upper middle class upbringings and were sustained
in hard times by their parents fortunes. They chose to come to Paris to seek artistic
fulfillment and ended up writing what is possibly considered some of the best fiction
of the 20th century. It was the time when writers, painters, musicians, and composers
went to Paris to work and
Construction of the Suez Canal
I had to write a report about one of the great man made structure of the world and I

the purpose of building such a famous and an important man made structure in the

Social Inequality In The Dance Industry
Everyone experiences social inequality at least once in their lifetime, whether it is
something small or something big it is still social inequality. Personally, I have
experienced social inequality in the dance studio due to my physical appearance.
About 3 years ago I experienced social inequality due to my physical appearance. I
was quite short 3 years ago and this other girl was taller than me. We were at the
same dancelevel and had about the same muscle mass as me, however, she was
always placed in the front center of the stage and I was always placed at the back
dark corner where no one is able to see me. This made me feel like I was a bad
dancer because this has happened in every single dance we were in together which
was about five. She was, also, a lot prettier than me and she knew it. Since she was
always placed in the front she was quite stuck up and as a result, not many people at
the dance studio liked her. This is an example of social inequalitydue to my physical
appearance compared to others in the dance studio.... Show more content on

I am now placed in the front center and everyone else is either on the side or behind
me. This makes me feel bad because I feel like they should have time to shine too,
however, I like being in the front center because I was always in the back. I went
from being on the disadvantaged side to the advantaged side of social inequality
and in some ways, it feels great but in other ways, I feel sorry for those still
experiencing social inequality at the dance studio. I try not to be stuck up like that
girl three years ago because I do not want people to hate me for being a good
dancer. I cannot help that I am always placed in the front and I am too shy to speak
up and say something about it and personally, I like being front and center now that I

Benefits Of Emt-Paramedic
Also, EMT paramedics should make way more money because they do a
dangerous job that saves lives and they do not even make a decent living. 31,000
dollars per year may not seem like that little of an amount of money, but if it is a
family of six and an EMT paramedic is the only one working in the family, they are
actually below the poverty level. Money is not the most important thing about a
career, but when I learned that the people who saved my life do not even make, on
average, fifteen dollars an hour, I was shocked. Making that kind of money would
make it difficult to provide for a family, so the spouse would also most likely have to
work in order to make a decent family income. A household with a first responder

Essay on Themes in Woman Hollering Creek by Sandra
Cisneros
Themes in Woman Hollering Creek by Sandra Cisneros Woman Hollering Creek is
a book of short stories published in 1991. The author, Sandra Cisneros, separated
her book into three sections. The section that will be analyzed is the first section
where the narrators are female children. Out of the many stories in section one, the
three that will be focused on are, Mericans, My Friend Lucy Who Smells Like
Corn, and Barbie Q. The children in these three stories are all lower class, Mexican
American females. These stories have been described by Thompson as Cisneros
remembering her childhood, filled with no male figures, lack of close female
friendships, and poverty (415 417). Each story shares both similar themes and
different... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another story that the theme of displacement shops up in is in Mericans. The
narrator, Michaela, and her brothers are waiting outside of a church in Mexico for
their grandmother. An American couple walks up to the church and Michaela
notices right away that they are not from here (Cisneros 2561). Michaela notices
how the couple is dressed. Cisneros goes on to describe ladies don t come to church
dressed in pants...men aren t supposed to wear shorts (Cisneros 2561). The theme
of alienation also appears in this story. Michaela and her brothers are alienated
from each other by gender. The two brothers call each other girl and sissy as
though it was an insult(Brady 1999). This makes Michaela very insecure and self
conscious about herself. The boys also taunt each other about crying since crying
is what girls do , which is a stereotype (Cisneros 2560). This makes Michaela very
careful. She does not cry in fear that her brothers will taunt her and will not play
with her. Another story that deals with stereotypes is Barbie Q. Thompson believes
Cisneros writes about how Barbie represents the norm for the perfect woman(1994).
In Barbie Q Cisneros attacks artificial feminine stereotypes that are epitomized in
every Barbie doll (Thompson 1999). The narrator plays with a friend talking about
dozens of outfits that fit perfectly and having many friends. The narrator describes
The Physics Of Egyptian Archaeology
From the start of the Carter s article, it is made known that clearing the objects
from the antechamber is a delicate and difficult process. Each object needs to be
handled carefully, or they can crumble. The process was slow and, and put
significant amount of pressure on archaeologists. One wrong move, and evidence
and knowledge from the past could be gone. Additionally, not all excavations are
carried out properly, and because of this knowledge of Egyptian Archaeologyis fifty
percent less than what it should be. Carter mentions there were many things that
could have gone wrong, one of these things being theft. Since everyone was excited
about the tomb and because of the valuables, guards and security were needed to
minimize the chance of theft. Furthermore, the condition of the objects careful
treatment was of concern and, and also visitors.
The first step of the process is photography. For this, movable electric standard
lighting was required to take pictures of the chamber before anything else. The
photos were developed in an empty tomb used as a dark room. Next, they made a
registering system with numbers so later they know where the object came from in
the tomb. Then, Carter describes, it was important to find a seclude storage and
private space for the objects once removed, which they found in the tomb of Seti II.
This tomb was protected from the sun and open, although there were some space
issues and distance problems from the scene. Moreover, Carter also notes
Advantages Of Block Scheduling
middle school programs, it can actually destroy any progress that has been made to
make a school truly responsive to the needs of young adolescents (Hackman
Valentine, 1998, p.4).
Of the factors necessary for creating a successful schedule, models that were
developed that were student and teacher centered, tended to have the most positive
results. Several studies had inconsistent outcomes, particularly when measuring
student and teacher performance (Mattox, et. al, 1999; Nolan, 1998; Ullrich, 1999).
An effective master school schedule should be first and foremost, student oriented,
should balance elective and required courses, be based upon input from all vested
groups, and maintain equality between grades and all programming (Hinkley, 1999).
Studies that demonstrated multifaceted improvements tended to come from schools
who had spent more effort in designing their own version of block scheduling, rather
than simply adapting a tested model that was successful ... Show more content on

My Personal Definition Of Leadership
1.There is no set standard on how a person learns to be a leader. There is no set
standard for a proper leadership style or how one person influences another. No one
person leads the same either. Some people learn their particular style from reading
books; others learn from taking leadership courses. I for one have learned my
leadershipstyle from watching and learningfrom others. I am an observer on how I
learn. I remember every single boss I have ever had and I can recall almost
everything I liked and did not like about how he/she led. I am no philosopher, so
my personal definition of leadership is to do what I think is right to and for others,
from what I have learned, and if that does not work, try something different.
2.I feel that when it comes to my personal leadership style, I am a chameleon. The
reason for this is that nobody is the same. Trying to motivate an egotistical alpha
male is completely different than trying to motivate an introverted timid female.
One single style of leadership just will not have the same effect on all people. With
the know it all alpha male, often times I have to come out of my own comfort zone
and be stern, direct and not beat around the bush to get through to the person. This is
not my type of personality, but in order to lead this type of person, this is the
approach that works many of the times. If I were to try this same approach on a softer
timid person, this could ultimately shut them down into their shell and

Middle Adulthood Observation
On November 27, 2016, I had the opportunity to observe the physical, cognitive,

and he currently has two children, one male and one female who are both in middle
school. The interview was conducted in the main office at our workplace, which
provided the most privacy and an appropriate environment to conduct a fifty minute
interview session. Prior to the beginning of the interview, I composed a list of two
additional questions that were not on the provided interview list to ask my forty five

reflexes, and he struggles to react to other cars while driving at night. Also, if he
suddenly drops an object from his arms, Jason said that he can no longer quickly
react and catch the object before it hits the ground. In addition to a decline in
reflexes, Santrock (2014) also states that in some other studies, verbal memory has
shown a decline in middle age, especially when assessed in cross sectional studies (p.

grocery store, Jason said that he is always unable to recall what his wife told him,

Auden s The Unknown Citizen and Michie s Dooley is a
Traitor
Satire is a common literary device used among authors and poets to indirectly
criticize the stupidity and vices of a specific person or group of people. Satirical
works typically involve tools of satire, such as symbolic characters, symbolism, and
irony, to simplify the understanding of who this satirical target is. In The Unknown
Citizenby W. H. Audenand James Michie s Dooley Is a Traitor, symbolic characters,
symbolism, and irony are all used to indirectly criticize the target of each satirical
work. In The Unknown Citizen, Auden is criticizing the way average citizens live
their daily life. In this satire, JS/07/M/378 is dead and is being praised by the state in
a eulogy. In a typical eulogy, the deceased person is praised for doing things that
made him or her special. However, in this satire, JS/07/M/378 is praised for doing
everyday activities that are done by many people, such as reading the newspaper
or owning a car. The Unknown Citizen is meant to make the reader realize that he
or she should live their life to the fullest as opposed to leading a dull life consisting
of fitting in with everyone else. One way Auden gets his criticism across is by using
symbolic characters and symbolism. JS/07/M/378, the deceased man for whom the
eulogy is written, symbolizes an average citizen. The fact that he is not addressed
with a full name indicates that he must have not been significant when he was alive
and that he was merely a statistic. His factory job at

ethical viewpoints that are on either side of the consequentialist spectrum.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix details the events that occur during Harry

be the most difficult yet because not only does Harry have to worry about Lord
Voldemort returning but he also has trouble convincing other of the impending doom
that accompanies Voldemort s arrival. Harry, two friends Ron and Hermione, along
with the Hogwarts Headmaster Professor Albus Dumbledore have spent the better
part of Harry s first four years at Hogwarts not only trying to subdue Voldemort, but
also trying to convince others of what they might soon have to face. Despite the
obvious signs of Voldemort s return, him trying to steal the sorcerer s/philosopher s

A Historical View of Egyptian s Mathematics System
In historic times; math was well known for helping Egyptian people keep track of
their property, money, taxes, livestock, land and sometimes people. Math did indeed
help the Egyptian community and their king by building pyramids, tombs, art crafts,
and using math to solve the flood on Nile Valley. Egyptwas striving for a new era to

As history has it, Egypt was the land of lands and great art with their high pyramids.

grew as they find ways to count, solve problems, and every day use of math. Ever
since then Egyptians quickly develop their own use of math skills and numbers to

the numeral system which is called Egyptian Numerals (OО„Connor and Robertson,
2000). Egyptians were very careful because mathematics required them to deal the
form of fractions. In ancient Egypt mathematics was used for measuring time,
straight lines, the level of the Nile floodings, calculating areas of land, counting
money, working out taxes and cooking. Math was even used in mythology the
Egyptians figured out the numbers of days in the year with their calendar

White Nile and the Atbara. They join far south of Egypt to become a single river a

Swot Analysis Of Costco
Costco History, Current Performance, Mission Statement, and Objectives. Costco
and its subsidiaries began operating in 1983 in Seattle Washington. The company
is engaged in the operation of membership warehouses, in the U.S, Canada,
Mexico, Japan, Australia, United Kingdom and Spain according to the company
website. It also has subsidiaries in Taiwan and Korea. Costco main objective is to
offer its members low markups on a limited selection of nationally branded
products as well as a selection of private labels in a wide range of merchandise
categories. Jim Sinegal inherited this philosophy from his longtime employer and
mentor, Sol Price who was the pioneer of the warehouse store in the 1970 s. Price s
main focus was on the lowest possible markup rather than the deepest discount. In
his mind, the word discount equated with the meaning of cheap and inferior
products. Sinegal build on Price legacy by promoting high value products at low
price as the core ingredient which sets Costco apart from other business model.
Costco s main objective is to lure members into its warehouse weekly by providing
new products weekly. According to Brian Woolf To create a sense of excitement,
urgency, and a need to visit frequently, Costco provides a flow of in out items
continually throughout the year: buy now, it may not be here next week! Finding
these non repeated in out offers creates a treasure hunt environment Woolf went on to

Rodney King Riots In The Rodney King
In 1992, a series of riots broke out in the city of Los Angeles. After footage of four
police officers using excessive force on an African American man, Rodney King, a
jury acquitted the four officers of their wrongdoing. The verdict sparked an
outrage in the city, the incident was not the only point which played a role in the
riots. However, after Latasha Harlins, a 15 year old girl, was shot in the back of the
head by a store owner. As a result, the people of Los Angeles responded in anger
over how African Americans were being treated by other races. The Rodney King
verdict can be considered as the start of the riots instead of Latasha Harlins murder
because it remained in the hands of the police, consisted of a large group of White
Americanmen, which displays an abuse of power in the race.
During the times of the riots, the Los Angeles Police Department played a
significant role in the uprising of the event. After the video went viral of the four
police officers brutally beating King, they were found not guilty of their crime. As
there was specific evidence displayed for the jury, they still acquitted all four
officers. Less than three hours after the verdict was announced, protesting and
rebelling occurred. The verdict regarding the four police officers sparked the riots as
Los Angeles citizens were not satisfied with the jury s decision. Citizens were
shocked by the response and did not agree with making police brutality seem
acceptable. In an interview, Jody David Armour, a criminal justice and law

Cancer Pathogenesis Of Cancer
There has been a spontaneous advancement in the understanding the pathogenesis of
cancer over the last two decades. Even though there has been a significant success in
the knowledge of tumor, there still a wide gap in the treatment of tumors. There is a
little treatment information available on cancer making it difficult to control it.
Chemotherapy remains the only effective treatment method used. This study aims at
examining the possible roles of the p53 gene in leukemia and how that data can be
utilized for diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
Due to its potent tumor suppressive activity, a molecular understanding of p53 action
will create significant experiences into specific procedures that limit tumor growth
and may identify key ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are essentially two pathways that transduce signs to start apoptosis in
leukemia. The primary route is the extrinsic pathway. It includes the trimerization of
death factors like CD95/Fas/APO 1 or TNF receptor one which initiates caspase 8,
which initiates the apoptotic machinery. The second pathway is the intrinsic
pathway. This pathway involves the p53 gene and is subsequently of more concern.
The p53 gene initiates the arrival of cytochrome C from the mitochondrial
intermembrane space into the cytosol. The cytochrome C in the presence of ATP
reasons the oligomerization and activation of Apaf 1 and caspase 9 as per Schuler,
(2000).
Therefore, then prompt caspase three and other effector caspases that cause
apoptosis. By utilizing this data, experiments have been carried out that try to induce
apoptosis in cancer cells by activation of the p53 gene. One particular examination
was done on the human osteosarcoma cell line Saos 2, which is deficient in p53.
According to Schuler (2000), an introduction of the p53 gene led to apoptosis through
an intrinsic pathway. Subsequently subjecting p53 to gene treatment might be of
enormous importance in the battle against leukemia.
According to Liu (1994), it has additionally been discovered that p53 mutant tumors
are more unstable genetically and this state of instability may enable the tumors to
become more rapidly resistant to drug treatments.

Essay on Reform Between 1825 And 1850
While some citizens of the United States, between 1825 and 1850, believed that
reform was foolish and that the nation should stick to its old conduct, reformists in
this time period still sought to make the United States a more ideally democratic
nation. This was an age of nationalism and pride, and where there was pride in one s
country, there was the aspiration to improve one s country even further. Many new
reformist and abolitionist groups began to form, all attempting to change aspects of
the United Statesthat the respective groups thought to be unfair or unjust. Some
groups, such as lower and middle class women and immigrants, sought to improve
rights within the county, while other reformers aspired to change the American
education... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She also brings to attention how they are fighting for the right to vote, when their
own form of government, being the democracy that it is, should permit women the
right to vote initially. (Doc F) However, these women battled on and on to gain their
rights, and make this country a truly democratic nation. Others, such as immigrants,
fought to make it possible for success in America. Due to the naturalization act, an
immigrant must remain in the United States for at least 14 years before becoming a
United States citizen and being able to really have any impact on the country at all.
Samuel F.B. Morse, in his Imminent Dangers to the Free Institutions of the United
States brings the subject of the Naturalization Act to the country s attention and
attempts to change this act, in fear of a conspiracy against immigration. (Doc D) No
matter what obstacles were thrown into the path of these groups battling on for reform
, they didn t concede. The reformist groups persevered and fought to expand America
s democratic ideals.
While attempting to change certain groups rights was crucial, an almost equally
pressing issue of reform at the time was society. Across the country, increasing the
morality and appearance of United States citizens had suddenly become a much more
pressing issue, and various reform assemblies, and especially the church, struggled to
improve society in ways they thought helpful. Due to the mass urbanization occurring
so rapidly,
Population Growth In American Cities In The Late 19th
Century
In the late 19th century, American cities exploded in population. This explosion was
fueled by population growth, technology in transportation, and industrialization. In
1870, there were only two American cities with a population of more than 500,000,
but by 1900, there were six. Three of these New York, Chicago, and Philadelphia had
over one million inhabitants. Roughly 40 percent of Americans lived in cities, and
the number was climbing (Urbanization, 2015). The various needs of the populated
cities forced changes to the physical and social make up of the American city.
A rapid population growth in American cities was fueled by an influx of immigrants
as well as native born Americans migrating to the bigger cities. Mass immigration
continued well into the 20th century. Immigrants became the reason that the big
cities grew fast in population, where industry offered work. Majority of immigrants
settled in the poorer areas of the cities, such as the Lower East Side in New York.
They were neighborhoods that had been emptied by upwardly mobile immigrants.
These immigrants settled into familiar territories that included immigrants from their
native countries that they could live and work with together. Some of these
neighborhoods were given nicknames such as Chinatown or Little Italy. These
sections of the cities helped to transition incoming immigrants to citizens but became

Industrialization was a big contribution to America s identity in the late 19th century
because it provided a framework for a larger economy. The technology in
transportation led to a growth of local industries, mills, and factories. Transportation
made it easier to move and exchange their products. Factories started to become more
efficient as machinery was improved. Each factory brought tons of workers to the
Happy Days
Happy DaysRemember that old television show Happy Days? Well, when I was in
the fifth grade I remember thinking, My family is like Happy Days . We were
happy and there was plenty of laughter and love to go around. Furthermore, like the
television show, there were plenty of struggles and some kind of dilemma to solve
before the night was over. No matter the problems the day may have brought, I
always went to bed feeling happy, safe, and loved. Unlike the majority of kids in my
fifth grade class with broken homes, I just knew that my parents would be together
forever. After reading Bradshaw on: The Familyby John Bradshaw, I can see now
that I may not have had a perfect family. My mom and dad got married in 1962 when

This person gives the family a sense of dignity (Bradshaw 33). In a healthy family
there may be roles being played but they are flexible and changing. It is
dysfunctional for one person to play a rigid role such as Hero and that is what was
going on with Shawn. I don t think my family was drastically dysfunctional, or that
we really needed to have a hero, but for some reason, my dad felt we needed one.
By putting so many demands on my brother to be perfect, he took away his
freedom to think, feel, to take risks, and to be his true self. This was a form of the
Poisonous Pedagogy (Bradshaw 7) that Bradshaw talks about. Children are
considered good when they think and behave the way they are taught to think and
behave (Bradshaw 7). This was exactly my dad s way of thinking. He drilled that
into us as children. I think my dad really meant well and wanted us to succeed in
life. Even though he drilled this success talk into us, he was still kind and did
always encourage us and tell us good things about ourselves. One way he
demonstrated this was every morning he would wake me up and sing these words
to me Hey did you happen to see the most beautiful girl in the world (Charlie Rich)
. It s funny, I find myself singing to my boys in the morning, and sometimes they get
so irritated, just like I used to. I bet someday they will sing to their children in the
morning. My mom was really a great mom. She went

Variable Costing
Absorption
As we have seen in previous chapters, when you manufacture your own inventory, the
cost of that inventory includes all of the costs associated with running the factory that
produces the inventory.
Generally, no part of the factory cost is expensed.
Instead, it is capitalized as the cost of the inventory produced. It is only expensed
when the inventory is sold. At that point the cost of the inventory becomes
Cost of Goods Sold. This system is referred to as
Absorption Costing. It is also know as Full Costing and
Full Absorption Costing .
The thought is that the inventory absorbs all of the factory costs fully.
As we have seen, inventory costs are made up of the following under ... Show more

Adolescence In Irving Washington, The Devil And Tom
Walker
Adolescence is a fundamental part of development of characteristics, as youth grow,
they indulge immaturity and naivety. Temptation is a primary initial in Irving
Washington, The Devil and Tom Walker(1824). The story foreshadowed the deal
with the devil , it is more of a comparison for what people give up for money, and in
exchange for materialism. Adolescents today foretell the themes of the deal with the
deviland is referenced in modern American life. In The Devil and Tom Walker,
Tom agrees to the devil s deal. But he lives life in misery, unable to fulfill his wealth.
He feels grief at the deal with the devil and cowardly seeks to religionto repair his
sins before it is belated. And as to be expected, the deal devoured Tom Walker.

Through the stages of adolescents they fond freedom from disturbance just like

be, if he does not look more to his own sins and less to those of his neighbors. Here
the devil criticizes Deacon Peabody for being blind to his own sins and focusing
too much on the sins of others. This reflects to modern times how adolescents are
hypocritical. Adolescents are intrusive but desire privacy. Despite of adolescents
lack of judgement they revere an individual s truth being, Since the red men have
been exterminated by you white savages, I amuse myself by presiding at the
persecutions of Quakers and Anabaptists; I am the great patron and prompter of

incarnated to punish those who persecute others, and to represent those who were
persecuted and gain them revenge. The site will foreshadow modern adolescents

phenomenon that adolescents indulge in grasping of money despite the fact

Analysis Of Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House

The Role of Symbolism in Nora s Transformation from Repression to Liberation in
A Doll s House The play in prose A Doll s House is written by Henrik Ibsen, and set
in Norway in 1879. By inserting symbols into the storyline, Henrik Ibsen reveals the
theme of female submissiveness and male superiority during the 19th century and
highlights character revelation in the play, namely through Nora s transformation
from being repressed to being liberated. Ibsen includes a variety of symbols
throughout this work, specifically the title itself, the macaroons, Nora s clothing, the
Tarantella Dance, and the frequent use of diminutive and childish pet names by Nora s

Torvald leaves to go to his study and Nora takes this opportunity to sneak a couple
of macaroons into her mouth. However, as Torvald returns, Nora s instinctive
reaction to this is to [stuff] the bag of macaroons in her pocket and [wipe] her
mouth in order to evade a form of punishment (Ibsen 2). The purpose of Nora s
childish response and compliance with Torvald s commands is to highlight her
fear of his authority over her. The sneaking of macaroons expresses Nora s
immature tendencies and also shows the side of her that she hides from her
husband, or her concealed self (Laweag). This prohibition of macaroons overall is
used to illuminate the inferiority of Nora within the Helmer household, which in
turn, provides insight on the widespread submissiveness of women during the 19th
century. Torvald calls Nora by belittling and childish pet names, from the
beginning scenes of the play in Act I, through to the end of the play. The way in
which Torvald addresses Nora as my skylark, my little squirrel, and my little
singing bird illustrates the demeaning behavior of men toward women in those days
(2 4). As these names are typically used to address small children in a rather playful
way, they are indicative of Torvald s position of authority in his relationship to Nora.
These animal based nicknames therefore convey to the audience that Nora is feeling
significantly dehumanized by Torvald s
Tornado Recovery Summary
This summary will cover the lessons learned and any suggestions necessary
concerning the following disaster. On May 22, 2011 a tornado spawned east of the
Missouri Kansas state line from a massive supercell thunderstorm that quickly
escalated into an EF 5 monster. This monster tornado tore a half mile to three
quarter mile wide path of total destruction through Joplin, Missouri claiming 161
lives (Smith Sutter, 2013). The response by the local and state government was
immediate bringing in a combination of public and private sector efforts. Joplin is
one of the few disasters that displayed how recovery efforts should be executed.
Public sectors after the disaster focused mainly on clearing debris and bringing the
community back into normalcy, while the private sector... Show more content on

One key factor that helped in the timely recovery of Joplin was the massive volunteer
sector efforts. There were more than 92,000 registered volunteers that came from the
United States and as far away as Japan to help restore the community (Smith Sutter,
2013). To house all of these volunteers FEMA provided temporary housing units for
the volunteers and displaced victims. Immediately after the tornado, the American
Red Cross set up shelters for the displaced victims and within two weeks of the
disaster they also had a long term recovery committee functioning. Along with the
tremendous response from public, private, and volunteer sectors the social media
network contributed a huge role in coordinating relief. Most notably the local
churches of St. Paul and College Heights utilized Facebook to contact churches
outside of Joplin bringing in faith based organizations from all over the United States
(Smith Sutter, 2013). The most fascinating aspect of Joplin s recovery was the
autonomous nature that the private and public sectors were able to perform under.

Material To Cradle
Environment:
High content of recycled material is one of the positives factors in this category.
Also helpful is when the insulation can be reused or recycled. Ideally the material
should come from a renewable source. All these factors contribute to low embodied
energy, which is the energy used to produce, process and transport the insulation
before it reaches the homeowner. Also the use of hydrocarbons or carbon dioxideas
blowing agents can contribute to greenhouse gas emissions. The preferred materials
are the ones that don t require blowing agents at all.

There are Red List free insulation products. They do not use blowing agents at all.
They have significantly lower embodied energy than petroleum based products.
Fiber based insulation such as cotton can also have up to 100% recycled content.
These materials are non toxic and they can provide sufficient insulation levels with
easy installation and are available in stores such as Home Depot and can be used for
both new and existing buildings.
Cellulose insulation is made from recycled paper products. It has a very high
recycled material content, generally 82% to 85%. The product limits airflow and
in most cases, it doesn t requires a moisture barrier and provides an R value of up to
3.8 per inch. Each fiber in cellulose insulation is treated with a safe fire retardant
called borate. This chemical also helps to keep the insects away. It can be used in
both new or existing homes, as loose fill or dense packed in building cavities, walls,

Character Analysis Of A Lesson Before Dying
PLOT: A Lesson Before Dying tells the story of Jefferson, a twenty one year old
benighted black fielder wrongfully implicated and convicted of the robbery and
murder of a white man. He was sentenced to death by electrocution. At his trial,
Jefferson s court selected defense attorney contends that Jefferson lacks the acumen to
plan a robbery, and that, even if he had been involved in the killing, sentencing him to
deathwould be like putting an inconsequential dead man in the electric chair. In
rancor of this so called defense, the all white jury finds Jefferson guilty. To compound
the horror of his situation, Jefferson internalizes the attorney s racist depiction of him
as a dead man.
STRUCTURE/FORM: The structure of this novel starts off from the middle of
Jefferson s trial. The main character is analyzing what is happening during the trial.
The sections in the book are describing in a very detailed manner what is happening
from the five months in which the trial started to how it ends. It was all a
phenomenon. Lastly the last few chapters are when the narrator is teaching the
lessons in more detail to send out the message to the reader why this book he wrote
is so informational in many ways.
POINT OF VEIW/PERSPECTIVE: Although the author uses first person narration
readers are not bounded to Grant s point of view. Gaines has said that using a
narrator who reports events as others reveal them is one of the narrative devices he
uses to get inside his characters heads without resorting to omniscient (third person)
narration. Much of the response in the novel occurs on an emotional level rather than
an objective level. Although we hear Grant s voice, the novel is ultimately Jefferson s
story.
MAIN CHARACTER: Grant Wiggins and Jefferson are the novel s dual
protagonists. Their individual survivals depend on their give and take support.
Despite the fact that it is Jefferson s story, it is narrated by Grant, with the exception
of Chapter 29, in which Jefferson is finally adequate to tell his story in his own voice,
through his own diary. And although Grant has taken on the massive task of making
Jefferson a free, intelligent man, it becomes clear that Grant s destiny is totally intent
to Jefferson s.
Victimization, Perceive Crime Ad The Justice System Essay
Data and Variables
This study is influenced by variables that have been gathered from the General
Social Survey on Victimization. The information from the survey dates back to
2009, and focuses specifically on Crime and Justice, and well as Society and
Community. The data set consist of 554 different variables, and 19422 cases from all
provinces within Canada excluding territories. The data was collected by Statistics
Canada on behalf of those who have been victimized. Also known as Cycle 23, the
data collected only survey those who were 15 years of age and above. The purpose
of this survey is to understand how Canadians, through their experiences of
victimization, perceive crime ad the justice system.
Since not all provinces have the same population within, a sample was gathered
from each province as a representative of the overall population. When analyzing
the province of resident of each respondent, Ontario and Quebec have the largest
samples because they consist of the largest populations. On the contrary,
Newfoundland and Labrador, along with Prince Edward Island have the smallest
samples because the population of those provinces are lower compared to other
provinces. Samples of each population act as a representatives to the population for
many reasons. The main reasons are that it is very difficult to interview every single
household within a country. Not all information will be accurate, and not all
variables apply to some individuals. Therefore it is possible

The Realm Of Sociology, By George Herbert Mead
In the realm of Sociology, the study of social behavior is deeply explored. Social
life, social change, social causes and consequences are what makes us all human.
Psychologically and sociologically, we are all different. Each individual has different
characteristics and personalities. Society has its way of organizing people who share
the same similarities typically by their cultural (or ethnic) identities, gender identities,
class identities, and so forth. According to George Herbert Mead s classic text, Mind
Self and Society, he stated that those identities are established through interaction
with people. They are produced through agreement, disagreement, and negotiation
with other people. We adjust our behavior and our self image based... Show more

The majority of people perceive members towards a certain group. The perceiving
of one person based on their appearance, behavior, race, gender, and etcetera are
considered stereotypes. Labels and stereotypes are a huge issue in society today.
Especially those who are labeled by targeted groups by the larger society. Labels
can be applied to anything. Be it positive or negative. Even though it is a natural
human reaction, but when taken to extremes it can have a negative consequence.
Those reactions are want we call deviance. The word deviance itself does not have
simple definition. The most useful explanation would be: one who does not conform
to the norm or behaviors, thoughts, or attributes to which some people react
negatively or would react relatively if they know about it. (Goode 1994) Another
definition would be: an individual or organizational behavior that violates societal
norms and is usually accompanied by negative reactions from others. Sociologist S.
Becker, stated that it is not the act itself that makes an action deviant, but rather how
society reacts to it. Though not always people do react negatively. It many not seem
deviant to some people, though may certainly be deviant to others. Basically when
people react disapprovingly towards something, that something is deviant. When
society does not approve someone s deviant behaviors, thoughts or attributes they will

The Supreme Court has the final say in issues that have been brought to lower court s but have been unresolved. The job of the Supreme Court is to determine if the Constitution says what the end result of an issue should be. The Supreme Court was designed to be unbiased and make it s choices purely based on what the law says. The nine people who are appointed to the Supreme Court are called Justices. They are elected to their position for the remainder of their life or until their resignation. As a result of the tenure given to a Justice spots do not open up often at all. The President nominates the Justice based on a few factors. First off experience is required. Many of the Justices where judges in a lower court such as the Court of Appeals or had a very well respected private practice. Secondly the President often nominates someone who shares his own political ideology. If the President is a conservative it is likely that he will appoint a conservative judge to the Supreme Court. Lastly gender and ethnicity have recently become a factor in a Presidents decision. Up until 1967 all of the Justices had been white males to fix this problem Lyndon Johnson appointed Thurgood Marshall the first black Justice. Later Ronald Reagan appointed Sandra Day O Connor the first female Justice. However a presidential nomination is not enough to be a Justice. The nominee must be confirmed by the Senate also by a majority vote.

  • 7. Work For My Father s Electric Company Essay This previous summer I was graced with the opportunity to work for my father s electric company. The job entailed driving a thirteen foot tall box truck with a coworker to Umpqua banks in Oregon and Washington that had relocated or closed down and decommissioning them by removing all technology equipment. That includes: computers, cash counters, printers, telephones, and anything that uses electricity. We would take every piece of technology and catalog them into an excel sheet with their serial and model numbers. Most the trips we went on to decommission the banks would entail us having to spend the night in hotels. I made $12.50 per hour, a generous raise from making minimum wageat my previous jobs. The first trip I was sent on was with Jon, a heavyset man with a buzz cut. Not long after we left the company shop for Medford, we took a pit stop at his house so he could change out of jeans into shorts for the drive. He told me the boss, my dad, didn t like to see his guys working in the field wearing anything but jeans, but assured me we wouldn t see any customers that day. I drove us to the first bank in Medford. The bank was desolate; everything was there except the people. I walked around and stood in the teller booths, found the silent emergency buttons, and walked inside the vault. Jon and I devised a system; he placed technology on the cart, and I scanned it into the computer. Jon also took over the banks speakers and was the DJ. I enjoyed working with Jon and the
  • 8. Realism In Marcel Carne s Les Enfants Du Paradis Carolina Alvarez Les Enfants du Paradis The disillusionment of the Germans after World War 1 led to the rise of the racist Nazi Party. They put the blame on innocent Jewish people as the cause of all their problems. The Nuremburg laws were the beginning of the harsh treatment of the scapegoats. Hitler planned to invade Europe to create his perfect society of blonde haired, blue eyed Aryans. As Germany was invading France in 1940, the lives of the French would change in every aspect of their lives. In Marcel Carne s Les Enfants du Paradis, one can see that it fits into other movies that were made during the German invasion of France. It follows the restrictions that were put on by Nazi Party but also broke some rules to keep their artistic integrity and used it as a means of escapism for the people of France. Les Enfants du Paradis tells the story in a poetic realist way that was a very popular movie in 1945. Poetic realism centers around working class characters and the theme of doomed love, the blending of comedy and tragedy, the use of long shots and long takes, and narratives that function as critiques of society (Glover). The movie revolves around 4 male characters and their doomed love for a woman who choices affect everyone. Rotten Tomatoes describes it as: Even in 1945, Marcel Carne s Children of Paradise was regarded as an old fashioned film. The outcome of this modus operandi is a rational decision that is, one that most effectively achieves a given end. In short, it optimizes; it is the best possible decision 11. Rational decisions bring about either large and basic or limited changes in public policies. Perhaps it is important to note that these decisions are more often than not in line with the ideals and aspirations of elites, who are happy with the political situation as it stands. Thus, this contributes (I submit) to the wide usage of the rational model within the fraternity of management policy and decision making. 5 Selected Essays by Lefoko O. All significant consequences of each alternative strategy are predicted and the probability of those consequences occurring is estimated. 3. Finally, the strategy that most nearly solves the problem or solves it at least cost is selected12. 4. All alternative

The story of Chocolat by Joanne Harris takes place in the year of 1959 in a small village in Paris. The main character, Vianne, comes from a culture that has an ancient Mayan recipe for chocolate. Chocolat uses motifs and allusions of the north wind, lent rebellion and culture to present Vianne with difficult situations making her seem more Christ like. Wanting to continue her mother s tradition and culture, Vianne, travels to different villages opening chocolatieres. Vianne believes when the north wind blows it is a sign of her mother summoning her to another village. As oppose to some of the critics on this story, which believe the north wind is a pagan belief of travel, the north wind idea could be viewed as the Holy Spirit. In the Bible the Holy Spirit is viewed as a summoning voice directing you in the ways of the Lord. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you (John 14:26 NIV). If we view the north wind as the Holy Spirit immediately a different perspective is given of the way Vianne handles her decision making. Vianne says in the movie whatever you say mother as she is looking to the urn where ashes lay, and listening to the wind beat against her windows, therefore, imposing she believes the wind is her mother s spirit speaking to her. • 14. Functionalist View On Prostitution To begin, I believe that society defines when lifestyle choices become social problems. Society can be defined as an organized group of people that are associated together for religious, benevolent, cultural, scientific, political, patriotic, or other purposes (Dictionary Reference. 2015). Individuals develop their own opinions about certain social problems. This results in people forming groups based on their opinions and these groups are known as society. An example of society determining what a social problem is would be prostitution. Prostitution can be considered a social problem because society has such a diverse view on it. Functionalists believe that the existence of such deviance is needed in order to produce stability in society (Kendall, D. 2012). Functionalists believe that prostitution allows people to engage in sexual practices and benefits the economy by creating jobs for people with limited education and job skills (Kendall, D. 2012). The symbolic interactionist believes that prostitution is a business deal that provides women with a way to earn money while satisfying other people s needs. Renaissance Influence on the Historical and Social Significance of Self Portraiture During the Renaissance, artists were acquiring status and the technical means to create a new genre of art called self portraiture (Bond). Portraits are defined as having a likeness of a specific individual (Adams). However, self portraits do not only have a likeness of the artist but also a sense of psychology that connects the viewer to the artist. This connection gives the self portrait a depth of complexity that even portraits do not always achieve. Following the development of self portraiture, one must transverse the development of portraiture. Then one must follow self portraits connection to portraiture and self portraits own unique development. Then one must recognize the influence of the society on the value of the artist and their artworks. In order to understand the significance of the development of self portraiture, one must have some familiarity with the history of portraiture and its development as a whole. Portraiture is a facet of the artistic community that retains a deep history from multiple ancient cultures. In Ancient Egyptian, around fifteen thousand B.C., artists carved out portraits, mostly of the pharaohs. When the actors moved downstage, they received the audience s attention as planned, and vice versa. When the actors moved upstage, the audience s attention then shifted to whoever was closest or in the strongest acting position. The director himself has strong ties towards the show; being cast as the main role of Charlie on two different occasions when he was young, this adds a personal element to the production here at Rollins. From an audience s perspective, a performer and their costume merge into one entity (Wilson, 2011). The costume that was the biggest eyesore was Froggy s military attire. Cisneros goes on to describe ladies don t come to church dressed in pants...men aren t supposed to wear shorts (Cisneros 2561). The theme of alienation also appears in this story. Michaela and her brothers are alienated from each other by gender. The two brothers call each other girl and sissy as though it was an insult(Brady 1999). For this, movable electric standard lighting was required to take pictures of the chamber before anything else. The photos were developed in an empty tomb used as a dark room. Next, they made a registering system with numbers so later they know where the object came from in the tomb. Then, Carter describes, it was important to find a seclude storage and private space for the objects once removed, which they found in the tomb of Seti II. Advantages Of Block Scheduling middle school programs, it can actually destroy any progress that has been made to make a school truly responsive to the needs of young adolescents (Hackman Valentine, 1998, p.4). Of the factors necessary for creating a successful schedule, models that were developed that were student and teacher centered, tended to have the most positive results. Several studies had inconsistent outcomes, particularly when measuring student and teacher performance (Mattox, et. al, 1999; Nolan, 1998; Ullrich, 1999). An effective master school schedule should be first and foremost, student oriented, should balance elective and required courses, be based upon input from all vested groups, and maintain equality between grades and all programming (Hinkley, 1999). • 31. My Personal Definition Of Leadership 1.There is no set standard on how a person learns to be a leader. There is no set standard for a proper leadership style or how one person influences another. No one person leads the same either. Some people learn their particular style from reading books; others learn from taking leadership courses. I for one have learned my leadershipstyle from watching and learningfrom others. I am an observer on how I learn. I remember every single boss I have ever had and I can recall almost everything I liked and did not like about how he/she led. I am no philosopher, so my personal definition of leadership is to do what I think is right to and for others, from what I have learned, and if that does not work, try something different. 2.I feel that when it comes to my personal leadership style, I am a chameleon. The reason for this is that nobody is the same. Trying to motivate an egotistical alpha male is completely different than trying to motivate an introverted timid female. One single style of leadership just will not have the same effect on all people. With the know it all alpha male, often times I have to come out of my own comfort zone and be stern, direct and not beat around the bush to get through to the person. This is not my type of personality, but in order to lead this type of person, this is the approach that works many of the times. If I were to try this same approach on a softer timid person, this could ultimately shut them down into their shell and

  • 34. Auden s The Unknown Citizen and Michie s Dooley is a Traitor Satire is a common literary device used among authors and poets to indirectly criticize the stupidity and vices of a specific person or group of people. Satirical works typically involve tools of satire, such as symbolic characters, symbolism, and irony, to simplify the understanding of who this satirical target is. In The Unknown Citizenby W. H. Audenand James Michie s Dooley Is a Traitor, symbolic characters, symbolism, and irony are all used to indirectly criticize the target of each satirical work. In The Unknown Citizen, Auden is criticizing the way average citizens live their daily life. In this satire, JS/07/M/378 is dead and is being praised by the state in a eulogy. In a typical eulogy, the deceased person is praised for doing things that made him or her special. However, in this satire, JS/07/M/378 is praised for doing everyday activities that are done by many people, such as reading the newspaper or owning a car. The Unknown Citizen is meant to make the reader realize that he or she should live their life to the fullest as opposed to leading a dull life consisting of fitting in with everyone else. One way Auden gets his criticism across is by using symbolic characters and symbolism. JS/07/M/378, the deceased man for whom the eulogy is written, symbolizes an average citizen. The fact that he is not addressed with a full name indicates that he must have not been significant when he was alive and that he was merely a statistic. His factory job at

The company is engaged in the operation of membership warehouses, in the U.S, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Australia, United Kingdom and Spain according to the company website. It also has subsidiaries in Taiwan and Korea. Costco main objective is to offer its members low markups on a limited selection of nationally branded products as well as a selection of private labels in a wide range of merchandise categories. Jim Sinegal inherited this philosophy from his longtime employer and mentor, Sol Price who was the pioneer of the warehouse store in the 1970 s. Price s main focus was on the lowest possible markup rather than the deepest discount. In his mind, the word discount equated with the meaning of cheap and inferior products. Sinegal build on Price legacy by promoting high value products at low price as the core ingredient which sets Costco apart from other business model. Costco s main objective is to lure members into its warehouse weekly by providing new products weekly. According to Brian Woolf To create a sense of excitement, urgency, and a need to visit frequently, Costco provides a flow of in out items continually throughout the year: buy now, it may not be here next week! Finding these non repeated in out offers creates a treasure hunt environment Woolf went on to say. These new products include big designer or luxurious

However, after Latasha Harlins, a 15 year old girl, was shot in the back of the head by a store owner. The Rodney King verdict can be considered as the start of the riots instead of Latasha Harlins murder because it remained in the hands of the police, consisted of a large group of White Americanmen, which displays an abuse of power in the race. During the times of the riots, the Los Angeles Police Department played a significant role in the uprising of the event. After the video went viral of the four police officers brutally beating King, they were found not guilty of their crime. As there was specific evidence displayed for the jury, they still acquitted all four officers. Less than three hours after the verdict was announced, protesting and rebelling occurred. The verdict regarding the four police officers sparked the riots as Los Angeles citizens were not satisfied with the jury s decision. Citizens were shocked by the response and did not agree with making police brutality seem acceptable. In an interview, Jody David Armour, a criminal justice and law professor at the University of Southern California, said, there was ocular proof of what happened. It seemed compelling. And yet, we saw a verdict that told us we couldn t trust our lying eyes. That what we thought was open and shut was really a reasonable expression of police control toward a black motorist (Sastry). It includes the trimerization of death factors like CD95/Fas/APO 1 or TNF receptor one which initiates caspase 8, which initiates the apoptotic machinery. The second pathway is the intrinsic pathway. This pathway involves the p53 gene and is subsequently of more concern. The p53 gene initiates the arrival of cytochrome C from the mitochondrial intermembrane space into the cytosol. The cytochrome C in the presence of ATP reasons the oligomerization and activation of Apaf 1 and caspase 9 as per Schuler, (2000). Therefore, then prompt caspase three and other effector caspases that cause apoptosis. One particular examination was done on the human osteosarcoma cell line Saos 2, which is deficient in p53. However, as Torvald returns, Nora s instinctive reaction to this is to [stuff] the bag of macaroons in her pocket and [wipe] her mouth in order to evade a form of punishment (Ibsen 2). The purpose of Nora s childish response and compliance with Torvald s commands is to highlight her fear of his authority over her. The sneaking of macaroons expresses Nora s immature tendencies and also shows the side of her that she hides from her husband, or her concealed self (Laweag). This prohibition of macaroons overall is used to illuminate the inferiority of Nora within the Helmer household, which in turn, provides insight on the widespread submissiveness of women during the 19th century. Torvald calls Nora by belittling and childish pet names, from the beginning scenes of the play in Act I, through to the end of the play. The way in which Torvald addresses Nora as my skylark, my little squirrel, and my little singing bird illustrates the demeaning behavior of men toward women in those days (2 4). As these names are typically used to address small children in a rather playful way, they are indicative of Torvald s position of authority in his relationship to Nora. These animal based nicknames therefore convey to the audience that Nora is feeling significantly dehumanized by Torvald s
  • 51. Tornado Recovery Summary This summary will cover the lessons learned and any suggestions necessary concerning the following disaster. On May 22, 2011 a tornado spawned east of the Missouri Kansas state line from a massive supercell thunderstorm that quickly escalated into an EF 5 monster. This monster tornado tore a half mile to three quarter mile wide path of total destruction through Joplin, Missouri claiming 161 lives (Smith Sutter, 2013). The response by the local and state government was immediate bringing in a combination of public and private sector efforts. Joplin is one of the few disasters that displayed how recovery efforts should be executed. Public sectors after the disaster focused mainly on clearing debris and bringing the community back into normalcy, while the private sector... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One key factor that helped in the timely recovery of Joplin was the massive volunteer sector efforts. There were more than 92,000 registered volunteers that came from the United States and as far away as Japan to help restore the community (Smith Sutter, 2013). To house all of these volunteers FEMA provided temporary housing units for the volunteers and displaced victims. Immediately after the tornado, the American Red Cross set up shelters for the displaced victims and within two weeks of the disaster they also had a long term recovery committee functioning. Along with the tremendous response from public, private, and volunteer sectors the social media network contributed a huge role in coordinating relief. Most notably the local churches of St. Paul and College Heights utilized Facebook to contact churches outside of Joplin bringing in faith based organizations from all over the United States (Smith Sutter, 2013). The most fascinating aspect of Joplin s recovery was the autonomous nature that the private and public sectors were able to perform under. This can be

Ideally the material should come from a renewable source. All these factors contribute to low embodied energy, which is the energy used to produce, process and transport the insulation before it reaches the homeowner. Also the use of hydrocarbons or carbon dioxideas blowing agents can contribute to greenhouse gas emissions. The preferred materials are the ones that don t require blowing agents at all. • 53. Character Analysis Of A Lesson Before Dying PLOT: A Lesson Before Dying tells the story of Jefferson, a twenty one year old benighted black fielder wrongfully implicated and convicted of the robbery and murder of a white man. He was sentenced to death by electrocution. At his trial, Jefferson s court selected defense attorney contends that Jefferson lacks the acumen to plan a robbery, and that, even if he had been involved in the killing, sentencing him to deathwould be like putting an inconsequential dead man in the electric chair. In rancor of this so called defense, the all white jury finds Jefferson guilty. To compound the horror of his situation, Jefferson internalizes the attorney s racist depiction of him as a dead man. STRUCTURE/FORM: The structure of this novel starts off from the middle of Jefferson s trial. The main character is analyzing what is happening during the trial. The sections in the book are describing in a very detailed manner what is happening from the five months in which the trial started to how it ends. It was all a phenomenon. Lastly the last few chapters are when the narrator is teaching the lessons in more detail to send out the message to the reader why this book he wrote is so informational in many ways. POINT OF VEIW/PERSPECTIVE: Although the author uses first person narration readers are not bounded to Grant s point of view. Gaines has said that using a narrator who reports events as others reveal them is one of the narrative devices he uses to get inside his characters heads without resorting to omniscient (third person) narration. Much of the response in the novel occurs on an emotional level rather than an objective level. Although we hear Grant s voice, the novel is ultimately Jefferson s story. MAIN CHARACTER: Grant Wiggins and Jefferson are the novel s dual protagonists. Their individual survivals depend on their give and take support. Despite the fact that it is Jefferson s story, it is narrated by Grant, with the exception of Chapter 29, in which Jefferson is finally adequate to tell his story in his own voice, through his own diary. And although Grant has taken on the massive task of making Jefferson a free, intelligent man, it becomes clear that Grant s destiny is totally intent to Jefferson s.

When analyzing the province of resident of each respondent, Ontario and Quebec have the largest samples because they consist of the largest populations. On the contrary, Newfoundland and Labrador, along with Prince Edward Island have the smallest samples because the population of those provinces are lower compared to other provinces. Samples of each population act as a representatives to the population for many reasons. The main reasons are that it is very difficult to interview every single household within a country. Not all information will be accurate, and not all variables apply to some individuals. Therefore it is possible

Social life, social change, social causes and consequences are what makes us all human. Psychologically and sociologically, we are all different. Each individual has different characteristics and personalities. Society has its way of organizing people who share the same similarities typically by their cultural (or ethnic) identities, gender identities, class identities, and so forth. According to George Herbert Mead s classic text, Mind Self and Society, he stated that those identities are established through interaction with people. The majority of people perceive members towards a certain group. The perceiving of one person based on their appearance, behavior, race, gender, and etcetera are considered stereotypes. Labels and stereotypes are a huge issue in society today. Especially those who are labeled by targeted groups by the larger society. Labels can be applied to anything. Be it positive or negative. Even though it is a natural human reaction, but when taken to extremes it can have a negative consequence. Those reactions are want we call deviance. The word deviance itself does not have simple definition. The most useful explanation would be: one who does not conform to the norm or behaviors, thoughts, or attributes to which some people react negatively or would react relatively if they know about it. (Goode 1994) Another definition would be: an individual or organizational behavior that violates societal norms and is usually accompanied by negative reactions from others. Sociologist S. Becker, stated that it is not the act itself that makes an action deviant, but rather how society reacts to it. Though not always people do react negatively. It many not seem deviant to some people, though may certainly be deviant to others. Basically when people react disapprovingly towards something, that something is deviant. When society does not approve someone s deviant behaviors, thoughts or attributes they will
