Essay Human Rights
Crafting an essay on the broad and complex subject of human rights can prove to be a
challenging endeavor. The difficulty lies not only in the vastness of the topic but also in the
nuanced nature of human rights themselves. Addressing the multifaceted aspects of this subject
requires a thorough understanding of historical contexts, legal frameworks, cultural perspectives,
and contemporary challenges.
Attempting to encapsulate the essence of human rights in a single essay demands the writer to
navigate through various philosophical debates, ethical considerations, and global perspectives.
Striking a balance between presenting a comprehensive overview and delving into specific issues
without oversimplifying or overlooking crucial nuances is a task that requires careful thought and
extensive research.
Moreover, human rights are dynamic, evolving in response to societal changes and emerging
challenges. Staying abreast of current events and developments in the field is essential to provide
an up-to-date analysis. Engaging with a diverse range of sources and viewpoints is crucial to
avoid presenting a one-sided narrative.
The challenge also lies in presenting the information in a manner that is accessible to a broad
audience. Balancing academic rigor with clarity and conciseness is essential for effectively
conveying complex ideas. Additionally, grappling with the emotional aspects of human rights
violations and advocacy requires a sensitive and empathetic approach.
In conclusion, writing an essay on human rights demands a combination of in-depth research,
critical thinking, and effective communication skills. It is a task that necessitates a keen
awareness of the complexities surrounding the topic and a commitment to addressing it with the
gravity and respect it deserves.
For those who find this task too daunting or time-consuming, assistance is available. Similar

An essay on different genres including the Ghost genre and the Fantasy
Adventure genre
I have chosen two completely different genres to base my essay on.
Firstly, I have the mysterious and gripping Ghost Genre; the books I have studied
are The Woman in Black , The Langoliers and the spooky film, The Others . The
second genre is Fantasy Adventure. The book
I am studying is Lirael , a recent book written by Australian author
Garth Nix. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of The Ring , directed by Peter
Jackson is the film that I am analysing.
There are many, definite trends to ghost stories, no matter what the novel is about.
They are all usually set in remote areas and are about haunting. Death is usually
common ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the ghost story film The Others , an unnerving atmosphere is set straight away. It
begins with cheerful, but strange music, and then a woman is shown screaming,
making you wonder what has just occurred.
This is the perfect beginning for a novel under the ghost story genre.
Further on into the film, we learn that the children who live in the house are ultra
sensitive to any bright light. This adds to the strangeness of the story, possibly
scaring the viewer and making them believe that the characters are quite strange.
The majority of all ghost stories are set in the winter months because the weather is
bad and when it is like this, bad things usually happen. The main character usually
gets themselves into a spot of bother due to either the torrential rain, snow or a
storm. It is highly unlikely for a ghost story to be set in sunny or cheerful
surroundings. It is the dark, dismal and eerie atmosphere that adds to the scariness.
In both The Others and Susan Hill s The Woman in Black, death is a key factor in
the story line. Dying is always used because if somebody had not died, there would
be no ghost to haunt the major character in the novel. In The Woman in Black ,
narrator and main character Arthur
Kipps is constantly haunted by the sound of a pony and trap being pulled under a
marsh by quicksand. He also hears the
The Macroeconomic Overview Of Vietnam
Macroeconomic Overview of Vietnam
Vietnam has gone through a successful development process, known to be one of
south east Asia s fastest growing economy and could possibly become a developed
nation by 2020 (BBC News, 2014). Vietnam was once one of the poorest countries
in the world in 1986 with per capita income below $100. As of present, Vietnam has
transformed into a lower middle income country with per capita income of $1,960 by
2013 (The World Bank, 2014). Vietnam s GDP per capita have been rising every year
as shown in Fig. 1.

Vietnam has achieved impressive progress towards poverty reduction and
economic growth. According to OECD (2014) this was largely due to the Doi Moi
economic reform process which involves a series of structural changes that made
Vietnam into one of the fastest growing economies in the world. Doi Moi was
initiated in 1986 and the goal was to create a social oriented market economy .
In recent years, Vietnam is known for their leading agricultural exports and foreign
investment destination. According to Trading Economics (2014), Vietnam s key
products are: rice, cashew nuts, black pepper, coffee, tea, fishery products and
rubber and also known to be the third largest oil reserve in Asia (EIA, 2014). These
are key contributions toward Vietnam s GDP growth rate shown in Fig. 3.

Over the years, Vietnam s balance of payments displayed large current account
deficits in years between 2008 to 2010 but reached a surplus from 2011 and
onwards (Vietnam Report, 2013). Vietnam s balance of payments gained surplus in
years 2011 and 2012, first half of 2012 there was a surplus of US$6.451 billion. The
surplus have greatly helped Vietnam through improving its financial power, reducing
inflation levels, stabilizing exchange rates and also help recover the country s foreign
reserve (Phuong, 2012). From onwards, Vietnam continues to show frequent trade
surpluses as export growth have
White Tiger Research Paper
White tigers have been endangered since the 20th century. There are now an
estimate of 200 white tigers left in the wild, but in 2014 there were over 3,200
white tigers. White tigers are endangered because, White Bengal tigers have also
been crossed with Siberian tigers to produce a larger specimen which in turn causes
even more genetic problems. For years, breeders and exhibitors have been using the
excuse that white tigersare an endangered speciesso they need to keep breeding them.
They live mostly in the range from tropical forest to mangrove swamps. White
tigers are carnivores and, in the wild, they often feed on large mammals, such as
wild boar, buffalo and deer. Depending upon what is available in a particular area,
white tigers may
What Is The Obligation To Endure
In the story The Obligation to Endure you may ask yourself, how do we live with
each other and with the world the answer to that question is we can live with each
other and with the world by making sure we remember the long term effects of the
chemical products we use. Meanwhile in the story Thinking Like a Mountain you
make ask yourself another question what does thinking like a mountain mean.
Thinking like a means that the mountain has stood for a long time and understands
the balance of nature and how everything serves a purpose. One way in which we
can live with each other and with the world is to endure ourselves on the far reaching
effect of chemical pesticides. For instance, in her article The Obligation to Endure
environmentalist Rachel Carson states... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She writes about the harmful consequences of lethal materials being released into the
environment. She uses horrifying evidence, a passionate tone, audience, and the
overall structure of her essay to express to her readers that the pollution created by
man wounds the earth. There are many different ways that pollution can harm the
environment, from the nuclear explosions discharging toxic chemicals into the air, to
the venomous pesticides sprayed on plants that kills vegetation and sickens cattle. In
Thinking Like a Mountain, the author, Aldo Leopold, writes of the importance of
wildlife preservation through examples of the symbiotic relationship of animals and
plant life with a mountain. He asks the reader to perceive the processes of a
mountainous environment in an unusual way. Aldo Leopold wants the reader to
think like a mountain instead of thinking of only the immediate, or as the hunter did.
Taking away one feature of an ecosystem may eventually destroy everything else that
that environment is composed of. Nature and wildness is essential for the well being

The Pros And Cons Of Capital Punishment
Capital punishment has been a recurring, controversial issue throughout the history of
the United States of America. When an individual is accused for a heinous crime
such as murder, one of their sentences could possibly be the death penalty. Taking a
life for a life seems simple on the surface, but in reality, there are many setbacks and
controversies that come with it. Capital punishmenthas been around for a while but it
hasn t been contested as much as it has today. People who are for the death penalty
believe that these criminals are a threat to society and should be terminated. People
who are against the death penalty often believe that taking someone s life is cruel and
unusual punishment, thus being unconstitutional. Despite the feud between the two
arguments, capital punishment still persists in many states in the US today. There
are some people who are even caught in the middle of the two opposing arguments.
The issue is often brought up in courts and is constantly bothersome to the political
process of the United States. Also, it is one of the most dire and important issues that
are consistently brought up in the media today. Due the mass amounts of controversy
this topic receives, it should be a problem that the United States makes a priority to
resolve. Even before the U.S. started off as a colony, the death penalty existed within
the European Union. As European settlers came over to the New World and cultivated
the land, they brought their methods of
The Influence Of Roman Ruins In Spain
A chance to see timeless beauty at its best , a phrase used to describe Spain s
Roman ruins. The ruins still standing offer rich history and show the influence of
the Roman Empire. Spain is a wonderful country to visit in order to see Roman
ruins because its full of history, culture, and impressive sites. Spain has a rich
history on Roman ruins. For example, the Calat Alhambra was built as a small
palace but was left abandoned. In the 13th century, Muhammed ben Al Amar rebuilt it
and later in 1333 Yusuf I turned it into a royal palace. Mid 1500s came and
Alhambra was abandoned again but was never destroyed. The Calat Alhambra went
through the Spanish War of Independence and later ended up being declared a
national monument .
Australia And The White Australia Policy
Australia in terms of immigration, has had a poor history of dealing with people
travelling into the country, shown in the beginning of hand picking the majority of
Australia s population. However as the decades have rolled on, whether it be forced
or by choice, Australia has become looser and more free in access and treatment
within the country and importantly, less discriminatory. In order to see these
improvements, the start must be shown, in which is generally summarised by the
White AustraliaPolicy.
The White Australia policy introduced as the Immigration Restriction Act in 1901.
The policy was about changing Australia s population so that it was, like that of
Great Britain. The act was passed by the federal government of Australia
(Immi.gov.au, 2014). The policy was extremely supported and applauded by the
public, with Prime Minister Hughes in 1919 stating (this is) the greatest thing we
have achieved (Immi.gov.au, 2014).
The White Australia Policy is one of the most infamous acts passed in Australian
history. It discriminated against countless of different races. The policy was created
with the purpose to recreate the image of a White Australia . This was the old
approach taken by the Australian government to select immigrants from the white
countries like the United Kingdom and stop the entry of immigrants not from white
countries. Australia was following the example set by Great Britain, as shown in a
statement made by W.G. Spence If we keep the race pure,

However, an interview with employees of the company suggests that they had lost
the meaning of working amidst the repetitive work flow in the assembly lines. This,
among other conditions led to a series of employee suicides that took place in the
vicinity of Foxconn, creating much controversy on management practices and work
flow processes.
Neo Taylorism
Scientific management practices can still be observed in companies everywhere,
from performance standards, to job descriptions and key performance indicators.
Neo Taylorism, as it is more commonly known today has evolved into a more
flexible framework with a balance of standardization and welfare for the employee.
Scientific management practices have been creeping into service sectors in the
form of automated replies and standard operation procedures. In McDonalds, job
fragmentation, specialization can be observed in the workplace and aims to
standardize and routinize products and work processes.
Conclusion
Taylorism is nothing more than a skeleton for a more sophisticated and an ever
growing framework of management. Although it led to the growing of the middle
class workers and has indirectly led to a comfortable life for most people, it is also
the foundation of capitalism and mass consumption, a problem that is ever growing.
Efficiency of workmen must be balanced with proper welfare and social interactions

Theme Of Blindness In Raymond Carver s Cathedral
Blindness is not limited to physical manifestation. In Raymond Carver s Cathedral,
the figurative blindness is immediately apparent through the narrator and his
shallowness, irrational jealousy, and egotistical personality. His dismissive behavior
and ignorance towards the feelings of Robert, his wife s blind friend, speak
negatively of his character and reveals his insecurities. While the narrator s emotional
blindnessand Robert s physical blindness initially inhibits their bond, it eventually
leads the narrator to an epiphany and the beginning of a character transformation. The
different forms of blindness allow the characters to bond and grow over the course of
the story.
Throughout Robert s visit, the narrator makes snide and insensitive remarks, despite
his wife s wishes. His misunderstanding of relationships and people is his visible
flaw. It isn t until the narrator ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He makes this clear in the opening paragraph of the story where he says I wasn t
enthusiastic about his visit. He was no one I knew. And his being blind bothered
me. My idea of blindness came from the movies. In the movies, the blind moved
slowly and never laughed. Sometimes they were led by seeing eye dogs. A blind
man in my house was not something I looked forward to (Carver 1). The narrator
dismisses Robert in the same manner a white racist may dismiss an African
American. His prejudice, or any prejudice, is preconceived based on superficial
qualities rather than actual experience or reason. It is evident the narrator can t see
beyond Robert s disability and is judging Robert because of a characteristic that
makes him uncomfortable. This unconscious placement of Robert into an atypical
category prevents him from seeing Robert as an individual. The narrator does not
see Robert as a whole person, but solely as a blind man. Part of what makes the
narrator emotionally blind is this
The Yellow Press
1.By the late 1890s, papers published by the likes of William Randolph Hearst s
New York Journal along with Joseph Pultizer s New York World had taken on the
term yellow press by commentators after the color which was printed by Hearst and
had been centered on a well known comic strip were constantly selling millions of
copies each day by combining dramatic accounts of crime and political dishonesty
with belligerent calls to nationalist attitudes (Foner 667). Yellow press is critical to
the history of the United Statesforeign relationships in the regard that the yellow
press was critical for the United States governments account of the Spanish American
War. In fact, the press was attempting to shed light on the truth of the war by catching

After Spain having refused an American request for a cease fire on the island
ultimate Cuban independence, in April President McKinley asked Congress for a
declaration of war. The intent, declared ny Senator Henry Teller of Colorado, was
to assist Cuban patriots in their strive for liberty and freedom. (Foner 667). What
is more, is that in order to achieve the government s humanitarian intentions,
Congress assumed the Teller amendment, expressing that the United States had no
intent of seizing or controlling the island. Equally important, secretary of State
John Hay referenced the Spanish American conflict as a splendid little war. It
lasted for four months and caused fewer than 400 American combat deaths (Foner
669). President McKinley showed little interest in expansion before 1898, yet he
was now welcoming the idea. On May I at Manila Bay, a harbor in the Philippine
Islands the American navy under the leadership of Admiral George Dewey
defeated a Spanish fleet (Foner 670). The Spanish American was in fact a splendid
little war . It was a splendid little war because it was well liked by the American
people. Additionally, this was the first time since the Civil War that men from the
south and the north fought together for a common reason. It also led to 4,000
deaths some of which arose from diseases such as bouts of yellow fever. This war
also resulted in victory over what was once the great Spanish Empire. Finally, it
changed American History and made the United States a world power which had to
take on newfound responsibilities in both the Caribbean and the Pacific. As a result,
the United States gained Puerto Rico, Guam, Cuba, and the Philippines. What was ill
received about this war were the deaths and the fact that war could have been
avoided but these countries were so driven on power, territory, and
Excessive Drinking In College
Secondly, excessive drinking can result if alcohol use becomes an integral part of
peer interactions. A recent study, which followed students throughout their college
years and then reassessed them 4 and 7 years after graduation, revealed the social
environment to be a highly significant predictor for drinking in college[19]. In the
context of the SLT construct of social reinforcement, both socialisation and selection
contribute to this process. Socialisation is evident when alcohol use becomes
prevalent, accepted and encouraged in peer interactions that were previously alcohol
free. Thus, college friendships may initially develop in class or while socialising in
contexts that do not involve alcohol. The initiation and development of these... Show

In the context of SLT, this pathway can be viewed as the opposite of what occurs
when peers support heavy alcohol use. Specifically, peers encourage abstinence or
light drinking through social reinforcement (providing an environment that
approves of this style of alcohol use), modelling (peers abstain or drink lightly
themselves) and cognitive processes (strong drink refusal self efficacy, low
expectancies that alcohol is needed to be social or popular). The little research
conducted on light drinkers and abstainers indicates that college students whose
peers disapprove of drinking or abstain report very little personal alcohol use [7,26].
In addition, freshmen whose social networks consist mainly or entirely of abstainers
are less likely to initiate alcohol use or drink heavily (five or more drinks per
occasion) than students whose social networks consist mainly of drinkers [8,95].
Longitudinal research indicates that the alcohol related attitudes and behaviours of
peers are significantly correlated with personal attitudes and behaviours at both low
and high levels of alcohol consumption, a relationship that is most probably the result
of both selection and socialisation [13,19]. In sum, associating with light drinkers or
abstainers can prevent drinking from becoming a prominent part of
Cotton Mather
Typology and typewriters appear to be two vastly different tools that are used to
educate and understand the workings of the universe. One is rooted in Biblical
literalism, while the other is rooted in technology, which often seem to be
diametrically opposed. However, the evolution of spiritual thought and the
understanding of Godfrom the PuritanEra to the Enlightenment reveals that science
and technology has the ability to produce spiritual discoveries, increase morality, and
inspire a sense of patriotic duty in the New World. In particular, Cotton Mather was
essential in shifting Puritan values and ideologies toward the acceptance of new
technologies during the pandemic outbreak of small pox in North America, and set

What has drastically changed over time is our dependence on God, in addition to our
priorities focusing more on discovery of the unknown as opposed to pleasing
unknown, unseen divine forces. Typology and a typewriter may be incredibly
different, but they prove that the human evolution of spiritual thought, relies on the
creation of tools to bring us closer to understanding God and more broadly, the

The s Ontological Proof For The Existence Of God Essay
In his Proslogion, written in 1077 1078, St. Anselm of Canterbury, introduced the
first formulation of his ontological proof for the existence of God. In an effort to
gain a deeper knowledge and acquaintance with his creator, Anselm set out to
logically deduce God s existence from the very definition of God. In the Proslogion he
writes, God is that which a greater cannot be thought. Whoever understands this
properly, understands that this being exists in such a way that he cannot, even in
thought, fail to exist (Anselm, 101). Anselm uses this definition as the fundamental
argument for his proof of God s existence. He argues that if the fool or disbeliever
denies the existence of God, he is still capable of understanding the definition of God,
thereby God exists in his mind as a mental image but not necessarily in reality.
However, since the very definition of God is that which a greater cannot be thought
and surely what exists both mentally and in reality must be greater than what exists
only mentally, then God s existence in the fool s thoughts must inevitably imply his
existence in reality, as well. If that s not true, than the thought the fool has cannot be
of God, since if that thought only exists mentally then there must be something
greater than it is and that goes against Anselm s definition. Ultimately, according to
Anselm s definition, it would be self contradictory to deny the existence of such a
being. About two centuries after the writing of
The Importance Of The Somme On The Home Front
In 1916, the battle of the Somme began, intending to end the war for the allies. It
pitted an unexperienced British army, against a professional German one. It was also,
however significant in many ways. Two of the main areas where the battle of the
Somme was significant were in its military value, and the reactions it caused, on the
home front. The battle of the Somme, intended to end the war that year, had
ambitious objectives, it was significant for failing to achieve almost all of these.
One of these was Beaumont Hamel, a fortified village behind the German lines.
The Battle plan called for the village to be taken on the first day. The fact that the
village was not taken until the very end of the battle on the 13th of November,
illustrates how much the plan failed. Demonstrating the level to which the plan
failed Private Anthony Stacey reports that this was a death trap for our boys as the
enemy just set the sights of their machine guns on the gaps in the barbed wire and
fired . Another objective, Serre, was not taken at all. In fact, the British staff were so
unaware of modern weapons, that they had cavalry ready to attack after the infantry
broke through. This is significant as it shows how inexperienced the British armywas
when it came to trench warfare. Had the staff understood the trench tactics better, they
would not have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the Somme entire pal s battalions were wiped out, leading to an entire
village losing their troops in the army at once. For example, at Accrington, where

began putting men from the same area into different battalions, so that losses to a
village or town were spread

Don River, located in Toronto, is a 38 km watershed that played a major role in the
city s earliest development and growth. It served as a source of water, power,

attention in which the Lower Don River became one of the most heavily populated
areas in Toronto. However, the Don River is gradually getting polluted. Increased
rainfalls and snowmelts carry pollutants as it runs through the different surfaces such
as parking lots and streets. Such pollutants include pesticides, dirt, bacteria, heavy

Thoreau Civil Disobedience
Henry David Thoreau s writing Civil Disobedience was published in 1849; in this
writing was his point of view on an unjust government with unjust laws decided by
the majority. It is believed that Thoreau s night in the Concord jail prompted him
to write Civil Disobedience, but it has not been proved. However, it is known that
Martin Luther King Jr. s time in the Birmingham jail led him to write Letter from a
Birmingham Jail, while he was still there. MLK Jr. wrote his letter on April 16,
1963, which was well after Thoreau s writing in 1849. Generally, when one writes a
piece it is known to be influenced by another that came before it; with that said I
think that there is evidence that shows MLK Jr. read and was influenced by Thoreau
s Civil Disobediencebefore writing Letter from a Birmingham Jail.
Martin Luther King Jr. was arrested and put in the Birmingham jail in 1963, which
is where he wrote his piece Letter from a Birmingham Jail. MLK Jr. was arrested on
Good Friday, April 12th for violating the injunction prohibiting white business owners
from desegregating their business to hire African Americans. As a result, King wrote
this letter while in jail for a national audience and his opposition to read. King s letter
hit many important points to both his opposition, his followers, and those who do not
know much about his protests. To his opposition, he answered their criticism about
his work and ideas when they said his activities were unwise and untimely . To his

for the new software easier.
During my research, I found over thirty dental practice management software

After reviewing the student evaluations, I am satisfied that my objectives and goals

found this to be interesting, because the majority of my class seemed to be

Some of the students mentioned that my movements were somewhat distracting. One

Sexy Shiloh Analysis
Often, it is difficult to read a relationship and predict its trajectory. In Sexy and Shiloh
the short stories protagonists are the subjects of infatuation by their significant others.
Sexy is the story of a Bostonian woman named Miranda who has an unlikely affair
with an Indian American man named Dev. While the affair is the most daring thing
that Mirandahas ever done, Dev seems to not think much of the relationship, as he
treats their time together as though it s part of a weekly routine. Soon, Miranda
mistakes Dev s physical attraction towards her as feelings of love as she buys a
cocktail dressin an attempt to impress Dev. Over time, Miranda figures out that Dev s
feelings for her are purely physical, and she leaves him, heartbroken... Show more

Tarasoff V. Regents Case Study
One of the most important concepts in the field of social work and psychology is
known as the duty to warn and duty to protect. Duty to warn mandates mental health
professionals to break client confidentiality when they believe their client may harm.
The duty to warn became a law in 1974 when the California Supreme Court ruled that
mental health professionals must have the duty to protect a victim if the therapist
believes that not warning them would protect them, the therapist must notify the
police or other authorities. There is a debate around duty to warn; many therapists
feel that some threats may not be credible. For example, a patient telling his therapist
that they could just kill their motherfor grounding them from all their electronics...

Regents case has been an ongoing controversial debate for many therapists, as this
began the start of the duty to warn, duty to protect. Prosenjit Poddar was a graduate
of the University of California. He developed a strong infatuation with a woman
he met at dance class named Tatiana Tarasoff. They briefly dated, but Tarasoff
called it quits as she wanted to continue to pursue other men. Poddar was still very
much in love with Tarasoff, and fell into a deep depression, and began stalking
Tarasoff. Poddar found a therapist at Berkley s Cowell Memorial Hospital by the
name of Lawrence Moore. In his last therapy session with Dr. Moore, he disclosed
how he intended to kill his ex Tatiana Tarasoff. Dr. Moore had diagnosed Poddar
with acute paranoid schizophrenic reaction and called campus police proposing
that Poddar is brought to a psychiatric hospital for observation. The police brought
in Poddar for questioning but was later released when he stated he would stay clear
of Tarasoff. Dr. Moore was ordered by his supervisor not to request any further
actions from the police for Poddar. Neither Dr. Moore nor any other doctors
associated in examining Poddar warned Tarasoff or her familymembers about the
threats made towards

During an individual s lifetime the activities they involve themselves in impact on
their many bodily tissues. Markers for these activities are left in the bones, joints and
dentition which is useful for anthropologists as only skeletal material is left in the
case of most ancient populations. Subsequently much research has been undertaken
in this area with varying levels of validity. In this essay I seek to explain what
information can be reliably gathered from skeletal material, it will focus on bone
density and muscle attachments associated with heavy workloads, jointwear caused
by repeated processes such as grinding grain, osteoarthritis and tooth wear associated
with tool use. To aid this discussion I will detail the activity changes... Show more

Food gathering, butchering and carrying materials for fires and temporary shelters
are all fairly short but high intensity physical exercise. Subsequently in hunter
gatherer populations there is a trend in the archaeological record for higher bone
density and greater cortical bone thickness in cross section (Maggiano et al, 2008).
The opposite is true of agricultural societies of the past. Activities involved with
agriculture are often slow, repetitive low load level tasks such as weeding, sowing
seeds and the picking and harvesting of crops (Bridges, 1989). These activities are
mainly upper body activities and are more commonly associated with joint wear and
osteoarthritis, which I will mention later. Muscle attachments are the sites on the
bone where ligaments are anchored, these may become exaggerated in individuals
with larger than average musculature. Based on the crude argument that hunter
gatherers used leg muscles in day to day activities and agricultural peoples used
their upper body in activity more it stands to reason that the respective muscle
attachments would be enlarged. Molnar for example attempts to trace general as
well as three specific prehistoric activities: archery, harpooning, and kayaking that are
likely to have been performed in past populations from the Baltic sea area using

Adrenocorticotropic Hormone Test Research Paper
Why am I having this test? The adrenocorticotropic hormone test, also called an
ACTH test, is a test that evaluates the functioning of the pituitary gland in your
brain. Your health care provider may order this test if you have symptoms of either
too much or too little ACTH. For example, too much ACTH can be seen in Addison
disease, where symptoms include being tired (fatigue). Too little ACTH can be seen
in Cushing syndrome, where symptoms include being overweight, having acne, and
having more hair on your body. What is being tested? The ACTH test measures the
level of ACTH produced by your pituitary gland in the brain. The test examines a part
of the pituitary gland in your brain called the anterior pituitary gland, and it measures
how much adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) that gland is producing.... Show

Dualism Of Life After Death
Although, to some Dualism promotes the belief of immortality of the soul. Some
religions deny this belief, many believe that after death the soul will continue on. If
the soul is non contingent and the soul is part of the mind then the mind non
contingent. But yet the body is an disposable object, making them two separate
things. Also, if god existence is real then that is an example of what we may think of
as a higher being with a mindor soul, obviously because he expressed his feelings
and views of life itself. But, god was never in a physical form of a human but seen to
humans only mentally, a figment of there imagination or conscious. The afterlife,

Angela s Ashes Childhood Quotes
In the late 1930 s to the early 1940 s, children all across Ireland lived their early

Anaylsis of Jackson s The Lottery Essay
Tradition is a large part of life today, but decades ago it was almost a way of life
and if it was not followed there were stiff consequences. The story is misleading by
the title because of the normal thought of a lottery is something positive or a
giveaway. The story is quite the opposite of the common thought. The main point
that Jackson shows in The Lottery is that people can be involved with such a
violent act and think nothing of it. In the story all the people are happy, they stood
together, away from the pile of stones in the corner, and their jokes were quiet and
they smiled rather than laughed. (Jackson 124). The tradition the village seams at

All the towns people get together on June 27 in the middle of the town square for
the drawing of the lottery. The townspeople the lottery is just like any other town
gathering like a holiday program, school play, or a dance. Mr. Summers is the
person in charge of the lottery; she has to gather the information from all the
townspeople about their households the day before the lottery to make a list for
the next day. He places papers in a box and mixes them around with one paper with
a black dot on it. The townspeople pick out a piece of paper, but only the head of
the house which is in most cases the husband. The family that draws the black dot
has to then draw once again to see who will lose in their specific household.
Unfortunately the person in the family that draws the dot will be stoned to death.
This tradition of the town takes place every year and everyone is forced to
participate in the lottery. Traditions are hard to break or stray away from;
especially in this specific story. In the story some people agree and some disagree
with the tradition of the lottery. The elders of the town have become accustomed to
the lottery taking place every year and that makes it easier for them to understand
the event. The people of the town who disagree with the event are the younger
people. There will always be arguments with the lottery because someone will
always die once a year. This is the same with any tradition in any town or any family

Legislations Correction Policies
To further help reduce the likelihood of recidivism among previously convicted
individuals, the justice department of the United States government in conjunction
with willing state governments, has implemented the policy of progressively more
severe punishments. Known as the system of strikes as Vogel (2003, p.32) writes, the
system punishes each subsequent crime for which one is convicted more severely
than the last even if the crimes are the same, with the third strike earning an offender
anything between 25 years in prison or life sentence depending on the gravity of the
offence . Such policies have helped reduce the incentives for individuals to engage
in criminal acts with Zagar, Grove and Busch (2013, p.390) pointing out that, the
Three Strikes Law in California, since its introduction, has reduced the rates of
recidivism by as much as 22% and saved the state billions that would have incurred
in such subsequent incarcerations. Certain states also have parole policies that bar
parolees from associating with other convicted felons and engaging in crimes and
transgression. Such policies, upon violation of parole conditions, prescribe the
forfeiture of an individual s parole and completion of the sentence for which they
were paroled and any other sentence that may be handed to them for whichever other
offence they commit.

Introspection on Parental Relationships
Relationships between parents and children are an important aspect of life. It forms
a basis of one s life, through childhood, in terms of learning morals and developing
one s personality. Lewis Nordan, the author of Music of the Swamp, and Alison
Bechdel, the author of Fun Home, describe their version of a parent child relationship
by crafting their stories in which the children strive for love and acceptance, while
receiving doubt, sadness, and distance from their parents, and as a result, the children
acquire a lifelong impact on their personality. In Music of the Swamp, Sugar
Mecklin has a alcoholic father and a reserved mother. Both parents seem distressed,
because of their geography, or at one another, and do not seem to enlighten Sugar by
any means. Their influence, especially his father s, is strong, and since most of
Sugar s actions are focused on either proving his parents wrong, or mirroring their
emotions, Sugar is putting his own happiness at stake. For instance, Sugar s father
always indicates to him that their geography, the Delta, is surrounded by death,
therefore Sugar takes his father s persistent remark as a metaphorical challenge to
prove his father wrong; he uncontrollably digs in his yard as a result, only to become
additionally depressed from the outcome. Furthermore, Sugar indicates that his father
always encompasses ill luck, and there are multiple incidences in which his father

Abstract
Education in India has a very long history. As knowledge is a very important source
of India s competitiveness. But India s ability to tap and nurture the competitiveness
would depend on how well education is institutionalized. Education has become India
s super infrastructure . When the whole world was deep asleep in darkness of

to India is, to convert its large human resource base to knowledge workers, equipped
with multiple skills that can harness and take advantage of this booming knowledge
economy.
Higher Education in India is one of the most developed in the entire world. There has
in fact been considerable improvement in the higher education scenario of India in
both quantitative and qualitative terms. In technical education, the IITs, and in
management, the IIMs have already marked their names among the top higher

According to the article Emotional Detachment in Relationships, by Michael
Schreiner, emotional detachment is more common among males than women where
a man tends to shut down, stop talking and distance himself when there is a difficult
conflict situation going on with no resolution in sight. One way to get through this
emotional detachment is to not poke or prod your partner to force them to become
emotionally attached, but rather give them some space and time to let things calm
down. Poking and prodding has been found to have an adverse effect on what you
are trying to accomplish. Physical disconnect ranks high as one of the reasons why
relationships fail as well. Your significant other is sexually dissatisfied and instead of
dealing with the issue with their mate, they are tempted to wander and go outside the
relationship to satisfy those urges. One solution to conquer and overcome this issue
is to establish an open line of communication so that your partner can be aware of
your wants and desires and hopefully help in fulfilling them for you.
In addition, relationships often fail because either one or both partners are not being
honest with themselves, their mate or with the relationship as a whole. A lot of times
people get involved with one another and assume that what they want and desire out
of a relationship is the same thing that their partner wants as well. This could be
anything from wanting to be in a monogamous relationship and not knowing that the

Joel did the same, but instead of letting go of Clem during his operation, he fell back

character he was. Much can be taken from the light that shined into the bedroom,
which felt cold and gloomy; it wasn t a bright, morning sunshine; it was gray. This
soft and dreary lighting was purposely muted to push the mood of depression and
loneliness by reflecting Joel s mood as he starts his day ( Technical Critique of

his room was shades of neutral colors of blacks, browns, grays, whites and muted
blues. Even Joel s choice of clothing from his navy blue pajamas to his ebony, black
coat reflected the colors of his room and mood. Joel s depression is very transparent

As the Nano project will be beneficial for the both parties, Tata will get the desired
place for the manufacturing of the Nano and West Bengal will also benefited. In
this case, the main issue was that Industry, government and agriculture comes at
the crossroads. There are so many implications for the external factors which come
into this picture. As CPI had won the election for the seventh consecutive time in
West Bengal, CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has the vision to make the West
Bengal an industrialized state which will help the people to upgrade their
standards. CM was very happy that government has recommended the Singur for
the Nano Plant. As Ratan Tata was looking for the place where he would able to
control the cost and place would be cheap so that he can provide the people the car
of worth Rs. 1 lakh. So, Ratan Tata accepts the proposal from the West Bengal
government because at Singur the cost of its operation would be less and Tata will
get benefited out of it. The statistical data of Hooghly district on Singur block is
that 83% of the land is irrigated and crop density is 220%. The landholders in the
Singur were very small. All have the land in the small proportions. There are a large
number of migrant workers over there; it implies that Tata would get the cheap and
easy labor over there in the Singur. On May 18, 2006, there was the announcement by
the West Bengal government for the beginning of the project at Singur. Ratan Tata

past decade and examines the approaches to OD that evolved to support them. The
four initiatives and the OD strategies that evolved from them include (a) Total Quality

High Speed And Wide Bandwidth Of Technology
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Introduction
Analog to digital converters (ADCs) is a mixed signal processing device that
converts analog signals which are real world signals to digital signals for processing
the information. With the advancement of technology, digital signal processing has
progressed prominently in recent years. The aim of design is low power, high speed
and wide bandwidth analog to digital converter has increased tremendously.
Therefore the focus of this thesis is to design low power Flash ADC that operates
at high speed. Integration at very large scale a new architectures, and advances in
integrated circuit (IC) technology have dramatically changed the design of these
systems and created new areas of research and development. By the evolution of
technology the transistor size is reduces and the response of transistor is being
faster. The evalution of design is deals with a high speed (above 250MHz) but has
low resolution (2 to 8 bits) as with small die area which is called System on a chip
(SoC). In this trend a large number of transistor is integrated on a single chip, it is a
challenge for a developer who designs an analog circuit for high speed applications
these are analog to digital and digital to analog converters (ADCs and DACs) that

Literary Imagery In Truman Capote s In Cold Blood
Truman Capote was a literary genius and had quite the way with words. His book
In Cold Blood was a true work of literary art that he created with various rhetorical
strategies and the truthful stories told by Garden City s people and the two
murderers of The Clutter Family ,Dick Hickock and Perry Smith. Capote s use of
imagery, tone, and syntax when describing Perry the murderer of the Clutters is
undeniably ingenious and brings out a more fictionfeel to the story. In this essay I will
provide you with a means to see Perry smith as I do and as I believe Truman Capote
did. As you read this book you can really imagine what is happening and how
everyone looks because of Truman Capote s use of imagery. He clearly and without

I would also like to compliment Capote s use of tone in his book In Cold Blood
because it was such a masterpiece of different rhetorical strategies and his use of
tone seems very prominent to me. Especially the tone he uses for Perry Smith. The
way he conveys Perry confuses me and really makes me question what Perry
actually felt if he did indeed feel. Perry was smart but comes off very psychopathic
and Capote conveys it with such an artistic style that it really elucidated who Perry
appears to be. You can see Perry s psychopathic tendencies in such areas as (386)
Perry Smith, who had shot and killed the whole family. He said he d lied about it
because, in his words, I wanted to fix Dick for being such a coward. Dropping his
guts all over the goddam floor. And the reason he d decided to set the record

he was doing it out of consideration for Hickock s parents said he was sorry for Dick
s mother. Said, She s a real sweet person. It might be some comfort to her to know
Dick never pulled the trigger. As you can see he appears to be uncompassionate until

Essay about Humanities in the Early, High and Late

Abstract
Learning Team A will use several research methods including text, internet and other
methods to explore the humanities and the effects and developments that the
humanities of the Early, High and Late Middle ages had on society. We have made
some very interesting findings and come up with some intriguing conclusions. The
findings are most definitely in condensed form for the simplicity of our assignment,
although if given an unbridled word count, surely we would demonstrate volumes of
text form such interesting periods.
The Early Middle Ages Before we can talk about humanities, we must first define the
word Humanities . Humanities are the investigation of human beings and their culture

Another wonderful example of Christian art during this time is the Book of Kells.
Snell (n.d.) points out, The Book of Kells is a stunningly beautiful manuscript
containing the Four Gospels. The Book of Kells was probably produced in a
monastery on the Isle of Iona, Scotland, to honor Saint Columba in the early 8th
century (Snell, n.d.). The Metropolitan Museum of Art displays other artistic finds
such as the Plaque with Saint John the Evangelist and Three Holy Women at the Holy
Sepulcher. Fiero (2002) states
Germanic traditions, including those of personal valor and heroism associated with a
warring culture, are reflected in the epic poems of the Early Middle Ages. The three
most famous of these, Beowulf, The Song of the Nibelungen, and the Song of
Roland, were transmitted orally for hundreds of years before they were written down
sometime between the tenth and thirteenth centuries. (p.71)
Although this age had a brief renaissance, the Early Middle Ages was a shadow of
the great Roman Empire. The Roman Empire was not only rich in architecture, art
and literature but it held a sense of accomplishment. The Early Middle Ages
epitomizes the struggle of human beings to love and create a better world for them.
The High Middle Ages The High Middle Ages falls between the Early Middle Ages
also known as the Dark Ages and Late Middle Ages occurring during the range of the
10th, 11th, 12th and the 13th centuries
The Bill of Rights in the United States Constitution Essay
The Bill of Rights in the United States Constitution has ten amendments in the first
part. The 2nd amendment in the Bill of Rights is The Right to Keep and Bear
Arms. The 2nd amendment The Right to Keep and Bear Arms states that A well
regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the
people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed (USConstitution). The 2nd
second amendment allows any United States citizen to own any type of arm. It
allows you to be armed whenever and wherever you want. The 2nd amendment has

The amendment reads: A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a
free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. The
basic issue for the justices was whether the amendment protects an individual s
right to own guns no matter what, or whether that right is somehow tied to service
in a state militia. The capital s gun law was among the nation s strictest. The law,
adopted by Washington s city council in 1976, bars residents from owning
handguns unless they had one before the law took effect. Shotguns and rifles may
be kept in homes, if they are registered, kept unloaded and either disassembled or
equipped with trigger locks (Background on Gun Control). There are two major
sides of gun control. One side is that the people that support the right to bear arms,
and the people that don t support guns and want them abolished. The side that
supports gun control believes that you should be able to own any kind of arms.
The position that they take is that if you outlaw guns it will only affect good
people and criminals will always find a way to get a weapon. They believe that you
are not taking the guns out of bad people s hands because bad people will always be
able to attain a gun illegally. Banning guns will create a black market where guns
will be made available to criminals. Criminals will always be able to put their hands
on arms

Background and History of Prostate Cancer
Introduction/Background/ History In 2013 there were 238,500 new cases of
Prostate Cancer diagnosed in the United Sates, and about 29,700 of the cases will die
from it according to WebMD.com. Prostate Cancer is the most non skin related
cancer in the United States. Prostate cancer is the formation of cancerous cells in the
prostateof the male s reproductive organ. Prostate canceris a slow progressing disease,
and most men only die once they have reached old age. Because the prostate is in
close proximity to other organs, it also causes dysfunction in urination, fertility,
sexuality, and bowel movements. This cancer is more common in African American
men ages 40 and up.
Symptoms of Prostate Cancer include:
Disruptions in urinary function,
Blood in urine or semen
Stiffness in thighs or in the lower lumbar region of the back.
Direct causes for prostate cancer are still unknown, but characteristics such as age,
ethnicity, and family history can been studied to be serious factors. It is
recommended that men should start getting tested for Prostate Cancer between the
ages of 40 and 50. Prostate Cancer comes in two forms, localized and metastatic.
The localized disease comes in stages T1 through T4, and the metastatic disease
comes in stages N1 and M1. If the cancer is caught early enough it can be
effectively treated. Also, if diagnosed early enough and treated, men can be cured or
go into remission for up to five years. Yet, according to Cancer.gov, 20% to 30% of

Tuberculosis and its Role in Research
Erica Lin July 7th, 2015
I. Background
Abstract
Tuberculosis, commonly referred to as TB or consumption, is a dangerous pathogen
caused by mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis). It is the second highest
cause of death, killing off 1.5 million each year. TB victims are normally infected in
the lungs by airborne pathogens and fluids, but other organs can be targeted. There
are two types of TB: active, in which victims are infectious and show symptoms, and
latent, where victims do not show any signs at all, making TB a silent threat that
could manifest in the body without warning.

tuberculosis complex (MTBC). When these bacteria enter our body, adverse effects
could result in potentially lethal consequences. Tuberculosis is normally an airborne
infection, although it can also be transmitted through the bloodstream and tissues.
Viral TB culminates when mycobacteria enter the airstream and attack the body,
particularly the pulmonary alveoli, invading cells and replicating themselves.
Although macrophages attempt to engulf the bacteria and destroy them through
phagocytosis in a process called autophagy, the bacteria s lipid outer coating allow
them to survive and eventually utilize the nutrients originally intended for the cell to
sustain replication within the host macrophage. If the mycobacteria find their way in
through damaged tissue, they can move throughout the body and infect different
areas. Inside of the body, phagocytes and T cells in the body will clump together to
surround and attack infected macrophages, but this supposedly beneficial bodily
response is actually exploited by mycobacteria, who use clumping to block all of the
macrophages at once and ultimately avoid host immune response.
TB is usually transmitted through exposure to others with active tuberculosis
infections. If the infector has active pulmonary TB and performs any action that
expels out salivary or mucous material, that material can transmit the bacteria to
others. The bacteria then
Can Money Buy Happiness Essay
Can money buy everything, including money?
Some people think that money can buy everything. Does that include happiness? Can
money really buy happiness? Different people have different opinion about this as
well as the definition of happiness that varies through people. According to the
dictionary, happiness is the state of being happy. Happiness is not just a state of mind
but it is a state of emotion. Martin Seligman, the father of positive psychology,
theorises that while 60% of happiness is determined by our genetics and
environments, the remaining 40 % is up to us. Psychologists have researched that
when you are happy, certain hormones are release. The feelings we experience are
nothing more than chemical reactions taking place in our body. So do you think
money can be used to make this reaction happen? Can money really buy happiness?

just short term happiness. What really makes me happy is when I get to stay with

to be built within. It is the kind of happiness that lingers for long time. In
conclusion, happiness can happen in thousands of ways. It is just whether you want
happiness to last for a long time or just a short period. Think of what makes you
happy., our doubts about happiness cannot be answered abstractly. Not even the best
theories can make you happy; you have to test it yourself. However, to me, I don t
think I can buy feelings and certainly cannot force a chemical reaction to take place in
my body. Neither can it force hormones of happiness to be

consumption. The footprint calculator that I used required that I answer a series of
questions about my consumption habits, and based on the answers I provided,
showed the impact of my lifestyle on the planet. The footprint calculator uses data
for selected countries, based on National Footprint Accounts. The online calculator
asked questions to determine how to distribute the ecological footprint into
different categories based on the country s average consumption profile. In
addition to calculating the amount of carbon a person is responsible for through
their daily activities, the calculator also estimated a total ecological footprint to
represent the amount of land and sea area required to provide the resources a
person needs and to absorb their carbon emissions. According to the calculator, if
everyone lived like me, we would need 5.1 Planet Earths to provide enough resources
to sustain us all. More specifically, I produce 23.4 tons of carbon dioxide per year
and my lifestyle requires 22.7 global acres of the earth s productive area. My
footprint breaks down as follows: services that I consume account for 39%, food
accounts for 27%, goods for 17%, shelter for 11%, and mobility for 6%. The
footprint calculator also made suggestions regarding ways to reduce my impact on

  • 2. An essay on different genres including the Ghost genre... An essay on different genres including the Ghost genre and the Fantasy Adventure genre I have chosen two completely different genres to base my essay on. Firstly, I have the mysterious and gripping Ghost Genre; the books I have studied are The Woman in Black , The Langoliers and the spooky film, The Others . The second genre is Fantasy Adventure. The book I am studying is Lirael , a recent book written by Australian author Garth Nix. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of The Ring , directed by Peter Jackson is the film that I am analysing. There are many, definite trends to ghost stories, no matter what the novel is about. They are all usually set in remote areas and are about haunting. Death is usually common ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the ghost story film The Others , an unnerving atmosphere is set straight away. It begins with cheerful, but strange music, and then a woman is shown screaming, making you wonder what has just occurred. This is the perfect beginning for a novel under the ghost story genre. Further on into the film, we learn that the children who live in the house are ultra sensitive to any bright light. This adds to the strangeness of the story, possibly scaring the viewer and making them believe that the characters are quite strange. The majority of all ghost stories are set in the winter months because the weather is bad and when it is like this, bad things usually happen. The main character usually gets themselves into a spot of bother due to either the torrential rain, snow or a storm. It is highly unlikely for a ghost story to be set in sunny or cheerful surroundings. It is the dark, dismal and eerie atmosphere that adds to the scariness. In both The Others and Susan Hill s The Woman in Black, death is a key factor in the story line. Dying is always used because if somebody had not died, there would be no ghost to haunt the major character in the novel. In The Woman in Black , narrator and main character Arthur Kipps is constantly haunted by the sound of a pony and trap being pulled under a marsh by quicksand. He also hears the
  • 3. The Macroeconomic Overview Of Vietnam Macroeconomic Overview of Vietnam Vietnam has gone through a successful development process, known to be one of south east Asia s fastest growing economy and could possibly become a developed nation by 2020 (BBC News, 2014). Vietnam was once one of the poorest countries in the world in 1986 with per capita income below $100. As of present, Vietnam has transformed into a lower middle income country with per capita income of $1,960 by 2013 (The World Bank, 2014). Vietnam s GDP per capita have been rising every year as shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 1 Vietnam s GDP Per Capita from years 2004 to 2014 (Trading Economics, 2014). Vietnam has also had success in reducing poverty, from nearly 60% of people living in poverty falling to 20.7% in 2010 and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Vietnam has achieved impressive progress towards poverty reduction and economic growth. According to OECD (2014) this was largely due to the Doi Moi economic reform process which involves a series of structural changes that made Vietnam into one of the fastest growing economies in the world. Doi Moi was initiated in 1986 and the goal was to create a social oriented market economy . In recent years, Vietnam is known for their leading agricultural exports and foreign investment destination. According to Trading Economics (2014), Vietnam s key products are: rice, cashew nuts, black pepper, coffee, tea, fishery products and rubber and also known to be the third largest oil reserve in Asia (EIA, 2014). These are key contributions toward Vietnam s GDP growth rate shown in Fig. 3. Fig. 3 Vietnam s Annual GDP Growth Rate between years 2004 to 2014 (Trading Economics, 2014). Over the years, Vietnam s balance of payments displayed large current account deficits in years between 2008 to 2010 but reached a surplus from 2011 and onwards (Vietnam Report, 2013). There are now an estimate of 200 white tigers left in the wild, but in 2014 there were over 3,200 white tigers. White tigers are endangered because, White Bengal tigers have also been crossed with Siberian tigers to produce a larger specimen which in turn causes even more genetic problems. • 5. What Is The Obligation To Endure In the story The Obligation to Endure you may ask yourself, how do we live with each other and with the world the answer to that question is we can live with each other and with the world by making sure we remember the long term effects of the chemical products we use. Meanwhile in the story Thinking Like a Mountain you make ask yourself another question what does thinking like a mountain mean. Thinking like a means that the mountain has stood for a long time and understands the balance of nature and how everything serves a purpose. One way in which we can live with each other and with the world is to endure ourselves on the far reaching effect of chemical pesticides. For instance, in her article The Obligation to Endure environmentalist Rachel Carson states... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She writes about the harmful consequences of lethal materials being released into the environment. She uses horrifying evidence, a passionate tone, audience, and the overall structure of her essay to express to her readers that the pollution created by man wounds the earth. There are many different ways that pollution can harm the environment, from the nuclear explosions discharging toxic chemicals into the air, to the venomous pesticides sprayed on plants that kills vegetation and sickens cattle. In Thinking Like a Mountain, the author, Aldo Leopold, writes of the importance of wildlife preservation through examples of the symbiotic relationship of animals and plant life with a mountain. He asks the reader to perceive the processes of a mountainous environment in an unusual way. Aldo Leopold wants the reader to think like a mountain instead of thinking of only the immediate, or as the hunter did. Taking away one feature of an ecosystem may eventually destroy everything else that that environment is composed of. Nature and wildness is essential for the well being of life on this
  • 6. The Pros And Cons Of Capital Punishment Capital punishment has been a recurring, controversial issue throughout the history of the United States of America. When an individual is accused for a heinous crime such as murder, one of their sentences could possibly be the death penalty. Taking a life for a life seems simple on the surface, but in reality, there are many setbacks and controversies that come with it. Capital punishmenthas been around for a while but it hasn t been contested as much as it has today. People who are for the death penalty believe that these criminals are a threat to society and should be terminated. People who are against the death penalty often believe that taking someone s life is cruel and unusual punishment, thus being unconstitutional. Despite the feud between the two arguments, capital punishment still persists in many states in the US today. There are some people who are even caught in the middle of the two opposing arguments. The issue is often brought up in courts and is constantly bothersome to the political process of the United States. Also, it is one of the most dire and important issues that are consistently brought up in the media today. Due the mass amounts of controversy this topic receives, it should be a problem that the United States makes a priority to resolve. Even before the U.S. started off as a colony, the death penalty existed within the European Union. As European settlers came over to the New World and cultivated the land, they brought their methods of

However as the decades have rolled on, whether it be forced or by choice, Australia has become looser and more free in access and treatment within the country and importantly, less discriminatory. In order to see these improvements, the start must be shown, in which is generally summarised by the White AustraliaPolicy. The White Australia policy introduced as the Immigration Restriction Act in 1901. The policy was about changing Australia s population so that it was, like that of Great Britain. The act was passed by the federal government of Australia (Immi.gov.au, 2014). The policy was extremely supported and applauded by the public, with Prime Minister Hughes in 1919 stating (this is) the greatest thing we have achieved (Immi.gov.au, 2014). The White Australia Policy is one of the most infamous acts passed in Australian history. It discriminated against countless of different races. The policy was created with the purpose to recreate the image of a White Australia . This was the old approach taken by the Australian government to select immigrants from the white countries like the United Kingdom and stop the entry of immigrants not from white countries. Australia was following the example set by Great Britain, as shown in a statement made by W.G. Spence If we keep the race pure,

Neo Taylorism Scientific management practices can still be observed in companies everywhere, from performance standards, to job descriptions and key performance indicators. Neo Taylorism, as it is more commonly known today has evolved into a more flexible framework with a balance of standardization and welfare for the employee. His prejudice, or any prejudice, is preconceived based on superficial qualities rather than actual experience or reason. It is evident the narrator can t see beyond Robert s disability and is judging Robert because of a characteristic that makes him uncomfortable. What is more, is that in order to achieve the government s humanitarian intentions, Congress assumed the Teller amendment, expressing that the United States had no intent of seizing or controlling the island. Equally important, secretary of State John Hay referenced the Spanish American conflict as a splendid little war. A recent study, which followed students throughout their college years and then reassessed them 4 and 7 years after graduation, revealed the social environment to be a highly significant predictor for drinking in college[19]. In the context of the SLT construct of social reinforcement, both socialisation and selection contribute to this process. Socialisation is evident when alcohol use becomes prevalent, accepted and encouraged in peer interactions that were previously alcohol free. Thus, college friendships may initially develop in class or while socialising in contexts that do not involve alcohol. The initiation and development of these... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the context of SLT, this pathway can be viewed as the opposite of what occurs when peers support heavy alcohol use. Specifically, peers encourage abstinence or light drinking through social reinforcement (providing an environment that approves of this style of alcohol use), modelling (peers abstain or drink lightly themselves) and cognitive processes (strong drink refusal self efficacy, low expectancies that alcohol is needed to be social or popular). The little research conducted on light drinkers and abstainers indicates that college students whose peers disapprove of drinking or abstain report very little personal alcohol use [7,26]. In addition, freshmen whose social networks consist mainly or entirely of abstainers are less likely to initiate alcohol use or drink heavily (five or more drinks per occasion) than students whose social networks consist mainly of drinkers [8,95]. Longitudinal research indicates that the alcohol related attitudes and behaviours of peers are significantly correlated with personal attitudes and behaviours at both low and high levels of alcohol consumption, a relationship that is most probably the result of both selection and socialisation [13,19]. In sum, associating with light drinkers or abstainers can prevent drinking from becoming a prominent part of

  • 14. The s Ontological Proof For The Existence Of God Essay In his Proslogion, written in 1077 1078, St. Anselm of Canterbury, introduced the first formulation of his ontological proof for the existence of God. In an effort to gain a deeper knowledge and acquaintance with his creator, Anselm set out to logically deduce God s existence from the very definition of God. In the Proslogion he writes, God is that which a greater cannot be thought. Whoever understands this properly, understands that this being exists in such a way that he cannot, even in thought, fail to exist (Anselm, 101). Anselm uses this definition as the fundamental argument for his proof of God s existence. He argues that if the fool or disbeliever denies the existence of God, he is still capable of understanding the definition of God, thereby God exists in his mind as a mental image but not necessarily in reality. However, since the very definition of God is that which a greater cannot be thought and surely what exists both mentally and in reality must be greater than what exists only mentally, then God s existence in the fool s thoughts must inevitably imply his existence in reality, as well. If that s not true, than the thought the fool has cannot be of God, since if that thought only exists mentally then there must be something greater than it is and that goes against Anselm s definition. Ultimately, according to Anselm s definition, it would be self contradictory to deny the existence of such a being. About two centuries after the writing of

Two of the main areas where the battle of the Somme was significant were in its military value, and the reactions it caused, on the home front. He places papers in a box and mixes them around with one paper with a black dot on it. The townspeople pick out a piece of paper, but only the head of the house which is in most cases the husband. The family that draws the black dot has to then draw once again to see who will lose in their specific household. Unfortunately the person in the family that draws the dot will be stoned to death. This tradition of the town takes place every year and everyone is forced to participate in the lottery. Traditions are hard to break or stray away from; especially in this specific story. In the story some people agree and some disagree with the tradition of the lottery. The elders of the town have become accustomed to the lottery taking place every year and that makes it easier for them to understand the event. The people of the town who disagree with the event are the younger people. There will always be arguments with the lottery because someone will always die once a year. This is the same with any tradition in any town or any family

Known as the system of strikes as Vogel (2003, p.32) writes, the system punishes each subsequent crime for which one is convicted more severely than the last even if the crimes are the same, with the third strike earning an offender anything between 25 years in prison or life sentence depending on the gravity of the offence . Such policies have helped reduce the incentives for individuals to engage in criminal acts with Zagar, Grove and Busch (2013, p.390) pointing out that, the Three Strikes Law in California, since its introduction, has reduced the rates of recidivism by as much as 22% and saved the state billions that would have incurred in such subsequent incarcerations. Certain states also have parole policies that bar parolees from associating with other convicted felons and engaging in crimes and transgression. It forms a basis of one s life, through childhood, in terms of learning morals and developing one s personality. Lewis Nordan, the author of Music of the Swamp, and Alison Bechdel, the author of Fun Home, describe their version of a parent child relationship by crafting their stories in which the children strive for love and acceptance, while receiving doubt, sadness, and distance from their parents, and as a result, the children acquire a lifelong impact on their personality. In Music of the Swamp, Sugar Mecklin has a alcoholic father and a reserved mother. Both parents seem distressed, because of their geography, or at one another, and do not seem to enlighten Sugar by any means. Their influence, especially his father s, is strong, and since most of Sugar s actions are focused on either proving his parents wrong, or mirroring their emotions, Sugar is putting his own happiness at stake. For instance, Sugar s father always indicates to him that their geography, the Delta, is surrounded by death, therefore Sugar takes his father s persistent remark as a metaphorical challenge to prove his father wrong; he uncontrollably digs in his yard as a result, only to become additionally depressed from the outcome. Furthermore, Sugar indicates that his father always encompasses ill luck, and there are multiple incidences in which his father experiences suicidal

According to the article Emotional Detachment in Relationships, by Michael Schreiner, emotional detachment is more common among males than women where a man tends to shut down, stop talking and distance himself when there is a difficult conflict situation going on with no resolution in sight. One way to get through this emotional detachment is to not poke or prod your partner to force them to become emotionally attached, but rather give them some space and time to let things calm down. Poking and prodding has been found to have an adverse effect on what you are trying to accomplish. Physical disconnect ranks high as one of the reasons why relationships fail as well. Your significant other is sexually dissatisfied and instead of dealing with the issue with their mate, they are tempted to wander and go outside the relationship to satisfy those urges. One solution to conquer and overcome this issue is to establish an open line of communication so that your partner can be aware of your wants and desires and hopefully help in fulfilling them for you. In addition, relationships often fail because either one or both partners are not being honest with themselves, their mate or with the relationship as a whole. A lot of times people get involved with one another and assume that what they want and desire out of a relationship is the same thing that their partner wants as well. This could be anything from wanting to be in a monogamous relationship and not knowing that the

High Speed And Wide Bandwidth Of Technology CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Introduction Analog to digital converters (ADCs) is a mixed signal processing device that converts analog signals which are real world signals to digital signals for processing the information. With the advancement of technology, digital signal processing has progressed prominently in recent years. The aim of design is low power, high speed and wide bandwidth analog to digital converter has increased tremendously. Therefore the focus of this thesis is to design low power Flash ADC that operates at high speed. Integration at very large scale a new architectures, and advances in integrated circuit (IC) technology have dramatically changed the design of these systems and created new areas of research and development. By the evolution of technology the transistor size is reduces and the response of transistor is being faster. The evalution of design is deals with a high speed (above 250MHz) but has low resolution (2 to 8 bits) as with small die area which is called System on a chip (SoC). In this trend a large number of transistor is integrated on a single chip, it is a challenge for a developer who designs an analog circuit for high speed applications these are analog to digital and digital to analog converters (ADCs and DACs) that also maintains other desirable attributes like low power consumption and small chip area. The main objective for the consideration a designed ADCs for the complete SoC are high speed and low power consumption. For a Low

  • 49. Babysitting Personal Statement Babysitting (9th 12th) I am a regular babysitter for multiple families in my neighborhood. I babysit at least once a week during the school year. During holidays and school breaks, I babysit more often. CIT at Camp Bear Track (10th 11th) I was a camper at Camp Bear Track for seven years, and the past two years I have been a CIT (Counselor in Training). Next summer, I plan on returning to Camp Bear Track for my tenth year as a counselor. As a CIT, I had to set and reset the dining hall for every meal, lead activities, prepare for the night game, be a leader for the campers in my cabin, exemplify Christ like ideals, and give a chapel to the whole camp. As a second year CIT, I was given more responsibilities and was chosen as the leader of all the first year CITs. Camp Bear Track is my favorite place in the world, because I have made lasting friendships at camp with people from all over the nation. I was new, sixteen, and the youngest lifeguard, so it was pretty intimidating at first. After the first week, the head lifeguard told me she was impressed with my work ethic and started assigning me more shifts. I enjoyed working as a lifeguard, but it was hard work. Most people think that all a lifeguard does is sit on the stand and make sure no one drowns, but that is not the case. Lifeguards are responsible for cleaning the pool deck, maintaining chemicals in the pool, and opening and closing the pool. The hardest part of the job was definitely cleaning the pool deck. Each day, I would have to clean up melted ice cream sandwiches, ketchup, and almost anything imaginable off the pool

Background Abstract Tuberculosis, commonly referred to as TB or consumption, is a dangerous pathogen caused by mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis). It is the second highest cause of death, killing off 1.5 million each year. TB victims are normally infected in the lungs by airborne pathogens and fluids, but other organs can be targeted. There are two types of TB: active, in which victims are infectious and show symptoms, and latent, where victims do not show any signs at all, making TB a silent threat that could manifest in the body without warning. When these bacteria enter our body, adverse effects could result in potentially lethal consequences. Tuberculosis is normally an airborne infection, although it can also be transmitted through the bloodstream and tissues. Viral TB culminates when mycobacteria enter the airstream and attack the body, particularly the pulmonary alveoli, invading cells and replicating themselves. Although macrophages attempt to engulf the bacteria and destroy them through phagocytosis in a process called autophagy, the bacteria s lipid outer coating allow them to survive and eventually utilize the nutrients originally intended for the cell to sustain replication within the host macrophage. If the mycobacteria find their way in through damaged tissue, they can move throughout the body and infect different areas. Inside of the body, phagocytes and T cells in the body will clump together to surround and attack infected macrophages, but this supposedly beneficial bodily response is actually exploited by mycobacteria, who use clumping to block all of the macrophages at once and ultimately avoid host immune response. TB is usually transmitted through exposure to others with active tuberculosis infections. If the infector has active pulmonary TB and performs any action that expels out salivary or mucous material, that material can transmit the bacteria to others. The bacteria then

The footprint calculator that I used required that I answer a series of questions about my consumption habits, and based on the answers I provided, showed the impact of my lifestyle on the planet. The footprint calculator uses data for selected countries, based on National Footprint Accounts. The online calculator asked questions to determine how to distribute the ecological footprint into different categories based on the country s average consumption profile. In addition to calculating the amount of carbon a person is responsible for through their daily activities, the calculator also estimated a total ecological footprint to represent the amount of land and sea area required to provide the resources a person needs and to absorb their carbon emissions. According to the calculator, if everyone lived like me, we would need 5.1 Planet Earths to provide enough resources to sustain us all. More specifically, I produce 23.4 tons of carbon dioxide per year and my lifestyle requires 22.7 global acres of the earth s productive area. My footprint breaks down as follows: services that I consume account for 39%, food accounts for 27%, goods for 17%, shelter for 11%, and mobility for 6%. The footprint calculator also made suggestions regarding ways to reduce my impact on the planet. For example, I could reduce the
