In everyday life we run into millions of microbes. Some of the bacteria is capable of making
humans sick. The study of microbes has become very important subject to help stop potential
pandemics and ensure proper hygiene. Anthony van Leeuwenhoek was the first scientist who
discovered bacteria. In my study of microbiology, I got to choose an unknown bacteriato identify. It
is important to start off finding the family of the unknown bacteria and then eliminating one by
one the species to know which bacteria it is. By knowing the family, a scientist can save
themselves a lot of time by knowing which tests need to be performed for the elimination process.
This might seem like a waste of time to one but being able to correctly identify bacteria... Show

important to start out with a purity check. To achieve that, you can inoculate an agar plate and
incubate for 48 hours. Make sure you only see one type of colonies on the plate. Knowing the

types of medias he/she inoculates with the unknown bacteria. Knowing if you are working with
a gram positive or gram negative bacterium, a scientist will need to perform a gram stain. This

occurred. Before inoculation, the substrate was a clear yellow color and in liquid state. After
receiving the negative result, I kept the broth in the 37C incubator for 7 more days to confirm the
negative result. Using premade slants with different types of sugars such as Mannitol, Sorbitol,
Lactose, Trehalose, Maltose and Sucrose, to determine if the bacteria can metabolize glucose and
if the bacteria is oxidative or fermentative. It was determined that my bacteria is strictly oxidative
(needs oxygen to grow) and cannot metabolize glucose. Another test was done to confirm if the
bacteria was able to utilize different carbohydrates in the presence of oxygen. I used Cellobiose,

The men in these posters on the other hand are depicted as muscular, tan, strong, wealthy, and
powerful, they too try to fit their role of manhood; hence the reasons there are so many violent
teenage boys. They all think that being tough and strong is how they are supposed to be, and girls
are depicted to be weak, dainty, and depended on males.
Going into different stores, one can easily pick up on the major gender roles each store supports.
Even the morals of an innocent toy store, such as KB Toys, is tainted by the gender
differentiating dolls for girls, and trucks for boys. Upon entering the store you can tell right
away which aisles attract which kids. To the left there is pink fluffy bears, pink Barbie and
friends toys, white teddy bears etc. To the right there is a less vibrant color setting, coordinating
army green, black, and gray color schemes. I think it is apparent to anyone who enters these
stores that the pink pretty isles are meant to attract little girls, and the dark green and gray isles
are meant to attract boys. Upon the packages of toy trucks and guns, there are pictures of young
boys playing with them and/or cartoon male figures controlling them. On the packaging of Barbie
and her friends there are also other girls on the packaging. I was unable to pick up on a single
female on the package of any toy truck or gun throughout the entire store. The
