Pros And Cons Of Fluoride
Fluoride Debate
The aim of this work is to compile support and opposition for the motion should we artificially

Further exploration into these studies raised alarm bells in their relevance to the fluoride debate .
For example I found the amount of fluoride being used in many studies to be well above any
reported daily human consumption, for example Ge Y et. El. (30) Used 100mg doses (there was
no mention of frequency) to prove a link between fluoride and apoptosis of brain cells. Other studies
undertaken usually had too many variables, for example Liu H et. El attempted to study the effect
of fluoride on male fertility using a population with high fluoride intake and another with low. The
study doesn t take into account other variables such as diet, volume / frequency of fluoride intake
or genetics. The conclusions being drawn where tenuous, with, in my opinion, no conclusive
evidence to prove the hypothesis, with the studies mentioning further research is

The Scarlett and the Black Essay
Good vs. Evil Albert Einstein once said, God did not create evil. Just as darkness is the absence
of light, evil is the absence of God. During WWII, many horrific atrocities were committed by
the Axis Powers, specifically Nazi Germany. Germany, Japan, and Italy represent the evil side of
the war, while the Allied Powers consisting of Russia, France, and Britain represented the good
side attempting to overcome the evil. More precisely, the two main characters in The Scarlet and
the Black , Colonel Herbert Kappler and Monsignor O Flaherty represent the powers of evil and
good respectively. Throughout the film, the forces of good and evil turn from working against each
other, to coming more close together and good eventually overcoming... Show more content on

Contrary to the forces of evil represented in the film, the forces of good were led by Monsignor O
Flaherty, an Irish clergy man who ran an underground organization while Nazi Germanyoccupied
Rome. It was not a one man show however, because O Flaherty had the help of Ms. Francesca
Lombardo and other Romans in his operations. Throughout the course of the movie, Monsignor
had many successes in his operation, even with the attempts by Kappler to destroy the group
because O Flaherty had clever plans and several disguises. In the larger picture, the forces of
good were symbolized by the Allies. As the war progressed, these forces of good had success as
they pushed down into Italy and overcame German resistance. When the Allies finally entered
Rome in the summer of 1944, Monsignor joined the celebration of liberation and the conquering
of the forces of evil in Italy. The forces of good had their successes but also had their failures. For
example, when Kappler is recaptured escaped prisoners, he exploited and oppressed the population
and many of O Flaherty s friends were either arrested or killed. Also, Monsignor was also the target
of an assassination attempt which failed though. Even though Kappler tried many times to shut O
Flaherty s operation down, the rescue organization continued in saving many lives, which can be
looked at as a major

Concealed Handguns In The United States
In the United States, sixty percent of all citizens have ownership of a gun. Owning a weapon is a
big time responsibility and everybody around those gun owners are affected. All of these guns
affect people s lives, both positively and negatively. People make their own choices and it is up to
them with how they handle their weapons.
For every 100 Americans of 18 years or older, there are 117 firearms (Phillips). Many Americans all
over the country own a gun. With all of the guns in the United States, there comes a lot of
controversy. According to Phillips, nations with firearmownership rating closest to the United
States have less than half the firearms. This shows that a lot of citizens either want guns or they
need them, or both. Hopefully if they need guns, they are for protection or recreation. All 50 states
allow citizens to get licenses to carry concealed handguns. Since 2013, all of the states have felt
comfortable enough to allow the people living there to carry a weapon. ... Show more content on

Over the past year, 1.7 million additional new permits have been issued. That is a 15.4% increase
in just one year (Lott). Many people prefer using a handguns, whether it is for protection or
recreation. Every year more and more citizens are purchasing permits for carrying a concealed
handgun. Between 2007 and 2014, the percentage of the adult population with permits soared by
178%. Overall violent crime also fell by 25 percent over that period of time (Lott). While many
more of the American people have purchased guns over the years, the crime rate has also seen a
change. Many might think that more guns might lead to more problems, but the crime rate has
actually decreased. There could be many valid reasons for why the crime rate went down. Maybe
the guns lead to more protection, or there is just simply no effect on crime rate from an increase in

ABSTRACT The recent study of metal matrix composite mainly deals with the aluminum based
composites with the reinforcement of particulates of silicon carbide and aluminum based
composites with the reinforcement of particulates of graphite which will be function as solid
lubricant. In this paper, two sets of composites has been prepared. One composite consists of
Aluminium with graphite and silicon carbide particles and the other composite consists of
Aluminium with alumina and Graphite. The composited has been prepared by stir casting method
and both the samples tested for the mechanical properties. The mechanical properties were
compared for both the composites and validated. The microstructure of the both composites were
examined using Scanning Electron microscope (SEM).
INTRODUCTION
The latest development of advanced materials focuses on the light weight with less cost products to
meet the required function with the required increase in demand. To achieve this, Metal Matrix
Composites (MMC) are mostly preferable since having excellent mechanical and wear resistance
properties. In this project, Particulate reinforced hybrid composites are used because of lesser cost

Relationships Among Abuse Families Essay
My topic for this research paper that I choose to discuss is relationships among abuse families.
The reason why I choose this for my research paper is because I believe that bringing attention to
abuse that happens among families is important and more research should be happening
frequently. Another reason why I choose this topic is because I wanted to research and discuss
the different types of factors that can cause all sorts of abuse in families. When reading our
book for the class I realized there was not a lot of information covering this specific topic. Since
not a lot of information on this topic wasn t covered in our book I decided that was another reason
why I choose to research and write about this topic. I have three detailed sources that I found that

Hawaiian Missionaries
The first missionaries arrived to the Hawaiian Islands in 1820 and made a lot of changes to
Hawaii when they arrived, both good and bad. When the missionaries arrived to the islands they
thought of the natives as savages. They all needed to become converts to followers of Christ, drop
their own beliefs and pick up new ones. They also sought out to civilize the natives, by teaching
them how to read and write, sing and Christianize them. Hiram Bingham and Asa Thurston were the
first of many missionaries to arrive in Hawaii. The Queen at the time, Kaahumanu accepted the
arrival of the missionaries from New England to teach their religion. Although there were many

Asa Thurston stayed with Liholiho, and Bingham led the others to Honolulu and arrived there on
April 14,1820.
Bingham had a hard time setting up mission schools and drawing the islanders in for them to
learn. A lot of the Hawaiians were interested in what was going on, but never really stayed
around, they did not like the clothes and learning to read and they thought writing was just to
hard, but they were still able to teach a good number of them. There were also many things the
Hawaiians did that the missionaries thought were a disgraceful. They viewed hula as sinful and
too provocative, and they were not overjoyed with polygamy and incest, marrying into their same
bloodline happening everywhere. It was going to be a huge job for these missionaries to change
this place around. They did what they could and it would make a huge impact on Hawaii
eventually. The missionaries developed a successful alphabet for Hawaiian by 1826, taught
Hawaiians to read and write the language, published various educational books in Hawaiian, and
eventually finished translating the Bible.
Soon after the first Protestant missionaries arrived in Hawaii in 1820, Kaahumanu embraced the
missionaries teaching, and Christianity. Kaahumanu was born in 1768 she married Kamehameha.
When he died he passed down the crown to his son Liholiho. But Kaahumanu and Liholiho ruled as
equal because Kamahameha thought his son lacked leadership ability. So

William Shakespeare s Powerful Use of Language Essay
We have all certainly heard the expression the pen is mightier than the sword and as Hamlet
states when he realizes the power of words: I will speak daggers to her, but use none (Hamlet 3.2:
366). William Shakespeare is one of the most important writers in history and arguably the most
notable, particularly with his use of language. I believe that Shakespeare consistently uses the
knowledge that language is power to his advantage throughout his plays. From themes of power,
control, disguise, deception, and manipulation, there remains the underlying theme that ties all of
these together: the power of language. The beauty of Shakespeare s work and what makes it
resonate even today is his use of discretion and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The power of language holds great significance not only in Shakespearean study but of our daily
lives as well. Every nuance Shakespeare creates leaves a clue to a greater truth or understanding
of our humanity. Exploring the works of Shakespeare with this in mind allows for audiences to
gain more appreciation and awareness of the depth of language and communication through his
dialogue and characters as Shakespeare: asks us to adorn the actor with our thoughts and carry
them here and there, jumping o er the times (Bevington xiii). King Henry in Henry V is a great
example of how language can mask and band together his constituents as well as tug at the
admiration of the audience. In his band of brothers speech Henry exclaims We few, we happy
few, we band of brothers/For he today that sheds his blood with me shall be my brother/Be he ne
er so vile (Henry V 4.3: 60 62). Effectively, Henry conveys the notion that on the battlefield each
man stands alongside their King without division, while simultaneously saying they can only
elevate themselves to his level through death and sacrifice to his cause. It proves an effective
speech rallying his soldiers and the audience gains a sense of admiration for the Tudor king. The
convection of his words swirls with deception as Henry is knowingly and willingly creating a
sense of honor in death for a cause that serves none other than his own purposes. Yet it remains

Essay about How Owen Meany is Directly Compared to Jesus...
How Owen Meany is Directly Compared to Jesus Christ
Throughout the novel a prayer for Owen Meany, by John Irving, the main character is portrayed as
a very religious martyr. In the Christian faith Jesus Christ is a martyr as well. Although there are
many differences between the life of Jesus, as depicted in the bible and Owen Meany, there are
many similarities as well, so many in fact, that the reader is forced to ponder if these similarities are
intentional.
Jesus Christ was a miracle birth: he was born from a virgin.
The virgin will be with child and she will give birth to a son Matthew 1:23
To be born from virgin makes the child blessed because the mother is then untouched and pure.

They were also both given an opportunity to escape this fate. In fact Peter asks Jesus to run
from the Roman s, to which Jesus replies it is God s will for me to die. Similarly Hester begs
Owen to not go to Vietnam, saying they could instead move to Canada and live there for the rest
of their lives. Owen instead refuses, prepared to meet the plan God intended for him. This act of
not running makes both Jesus and Owen a martyr; both having died to save people, both dying as
well for their faith, both putting all their trust in God.
His best friend tells the retelling of Owen s life: John. John s faith is kindled after the martyr
death of Owen, and John is inspired to chronicle Owen s life. Owen met John when John hadn t
made any positive declaration of his faith; his faith changed as his family did, and his belief in
the church was sketchy at best. Owen, meanwhile, had absolute trust in God. Whenever John
would talk about random chance, Owen would be angered, and instead call it God s will. But
when Owen s life ends, John s faith is rekindled, and he becomes a devout Anglican. In the Bible,
John was a Jesus first deciple and best friend to Jesus. The bible depicts that John didn t have
absolute faith in God, but he had faith in Jesus, which was why he followed him. But when Jesus
is crucified John sees this miracle and converts to Christianity himself. As well, John is inspired to

Senkaku Islands Controversy
Every day the world is dealing with issues that come and go or issues that have existed and was
never properly dealt with. The information we obtain is always presented to us through a

times it is neutral. What is more important is how the knowledge is relayed to us and how we

The Legacy Of Nero Claudius Caesar
One of the most infamous emperor during the Roman Empire was named Nero Claudius Caesar
(37 68 A.D). He was hedonistic, cruel and violent with people. Nero would always have lavish
parties had no sympathy for people. As an always wanted to raise to the top even if he had to
murder his own family. Since he mostly grew up with his mother Agrippina the Younger, he had a
high chance to become ruler of
In 54 A.D. Nero became emperor of Rome after the death of Claudius, who was thought to have
been poisoned by his wife Agrippina, who also happened to be Nero s mother. Nero s real name
was Lucius, but his mother decided that Nero Claudius Caesar was more suitable so she got him
to change it. Agrippina was always plotting in the background. As a wife of a former emperor and
mother to the current one, she saw herself as a new version of Livia.
Nero was only a teenager when he came to power, just seventeen years old. Having been under
the influence of his mother all his life, he now saw an opportunity to do what he wanted instead.
Within the first year of his reign he had made it obvious to her that she was not going to be sharing
his power. When an Armenian ambassador visited Rome, Nero did not let Agrippina sit next to him
to receive the guest.
During the following months, mother and son quarelled openly about his affair with an ex slave
girl called Acte. He was already married to Octavia, daulghter of Claudius. Agrippina did not
approve of this liaison and at this point started to get closer with Britannicus, Claudius s son with
the unfortunate Messalina. When Nero saw this he realised this could be a threat to his reign, so
he had Britannicus poisoned and forced Agrippina to move out of the palace, took her bodyguard
away and slapped a lawsuit on her.
Despite her distance from Court, Agrippina did not stop trying to interfere with things. Being the
daughter of Germanicus was a big deal and this ensured she was not ignored.
When Nero started an affair with Poppaea Sabina, trouble really started. Poppaea was an upper
class woman who could marry Nero if he divorced Octavia. She realised that as long as Agrippina
was alive, there was no way she could get Nero to marry her. At this time, it is also rumoured that

Research Paper On The Angelus Millet
L AngГ©lus, also known as The Angelus, was painted and completed between 1857 and 1859
Jean François Millet. Millet is most known for his scenes of rural farmers. The Angelus, a fifty

commissioned by the wealthy patron Thomas Gold Appleton. It was never collected by Appleton,
instead it was passed around for nearly forty years until it was donated by Alfred Chauchard to
the French State in 1909. It then was placed in the Louve until 1986 when it was transferred to the

It was not until the 1860s that his name and achievement began to grow. During this decade he
received multiple commissions for series of works, one which would include 90 pieces. In 1868 he
was recognized by being named Chevalier de la Legion d Honneur, or Knight of The Legion of
Honor. This is a very prestigious award given by the French State. Only two years later he and his
family fled Barbizon due to the Franco Prussian War and did not return until the following year.
Four years after returning, he and his wife, Catherine, held a religious wedding ceremony; they
originally had a civil union. Seventeen days after the ceremony Millet died. Millet lacked
recognition until the later years of his life, but after his death he became a source of inspiration
for some of the world s most famous artists. Vincent Van Gough was largely influenced, during
his earlier works, by Millet. Van Gough would write his brother and mention Millet very often.
Millet also influenced other artists such as Claude Monet and Georges Seurat. Mark Twain also
was inspired by Millet, causing Twain to make Millet the main character in his play Is He Dead?
(1898). Millet s work largely centered around the poor rural farmers working in the fields. The
Angelus depicts a moment in a farmer s day in which they would stop working in order to recite

1.1 Purpose of Report
The purpose of this report is to distinguish the type of cost centre of sales branches and to also
compare the old and new budgeting systems at Thoja.
Thoja Company is a decentralised company in which its organisational structure is functionally
based. The company s sales branches are recognised as discretionary cost centres. The company s
president, Harry Hansen has decided to implement a new budgeting system for the sales branches in
order to prevent budget slacks. The reason for implementing the new budgeting system is to attempt
to lower selling expenses and sales volume together.
The new budgeted system at Thoja comprises of fixed and variable costs in order to associate selling
expenses and sales volumes together. With the implementation of the new budgeting system, the
company overcame the partiality and biasing forecasts, however the new system also had some
potential disadvantages as tight budgets may encourage managers to cut costs and as a result, this
will be damaging the company s long term benefits. Furthermore, the sales branches at

The Execution of Death Penalty
The Death Penalty Introduction As of 2010, thirty four States have some form of Death Penalty,
while twelve States plus the District of Columbia have no Death Penalty. The number of Death
Penalty executions from 1977 2010 by color coded States follows: (Death Penalty Information
Center, 2012). The basic dispute involving the Death Penalty is whether or not it should be
abolished. This dispute has raged for decades in the United States and people on both sides of the
debate appear to be equally passionate. Anti Death Penalty individuals propose numerous arguments
for banning the Death Penalty; this paper will address three of them: some innocent people are
sentenced to death; the Death Penalty is administered arbitrarily; and the Death Penalty is not a
deterrent. After presenting those three anti Death Penalty arguments, the pro Death Penalty
responses will be examined. Anti Death Penalty Arguments One argument against the Death
Penalty is that innocent people are wrongfully convicted and sentenced to death. While the
Innocence Project, associated with the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, was not established to
abolish the Death Penalty, many of its findings support the innocent convict argument. The
Innocence Project maintains that people have been wrongfully convicted due to: eyewitness
misidentification; invalidated or improper forensics; false confessions/admissions; forensic science
misconduct; government misconduct; informants; and bad

Wmd (Weapons Of Mass Destruction)
WMD(Weapons of Mass Destruction)
A world without nuclear weapons would be less stable and more dangerous for all of us. (Margaret
Thatcher). Although this quote sounds ridiculous, it is absolutely right. Arguments have been made
by President Obama that nuclear weapons are the greatest threat to U.S. security. However, history
proves that weapons of mass destruction whether biological, nuclear, chemical or radioactive, are a
necessary evil to sustain global stability, deter attacks from rogue nations and encourage diplomacy.
Weapons of Mass Destruction sustain global peace by keeping the most powerful nations honest.
Currently the United States, Russia, China, UK, North Korea, India, Pakistan, Israel and France all
possess WMD. Of these nations the U.S. is the most prepared to deploy its weapons, while Russia

Weapons of Mass Destruction encourage world leaders to talk rather than attack. There are two

Drunk Driving Impaired
Driving while impaired Drinking and driving obviously comes with multiple problems and
consequences, but with problems, there is always a solution. It s only been in the past 15 years
that we as a whole have recognized the dangers that come while you are drinking and driving
(Cooper, n.d). National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that this year there has
people 500,000 people, or one person every other minute will get hurt in a alcohol related
accident. 10,000 will die due to drunk drivers, which is about one death every hour. Around 50%
of car crashes that lead to death are caused to alcohol (Cooper, n.d.). Michael Scott from Drunk
Drivers says that about 1/5 of people have admitted to drinking and driving at least once in their
lives and 94% of accidents occur after 3am when you are more likely to have been drinking for...

A person who has been drinking can not only harm others, but can also harm themselves very
bad and in most cases end up in jail as a result. About 60% of high school students admit to
drinking on an everyday basis or weekends and about 12% of that admit to have been driving
while they were drinking or just shortly after (Driving impaired, 1). This number is ridiculously
high. It proves that teens are harming themselves just as much as others because they are drinking
before their body is done developing. Drinking in this process can seriously hurt them in different
ways. It almost doubles the odds of them getting liver cancer (Rethinking drinking, 16). About every
other minute someone is injured during a drinking accident. Almost all the time the person who is
in most danger is not the person drinking but the people on the other

Examples Of Suspense In Truman Capote
The author Truman Capote reconstructs the slaying in 1959 of a farm family in Holcomb,
Kansas which created a media frenzy and the investigation that led to the capture, trial, and
execution of the killers, Capote generates suspense and empathy, the Clutter family is murdered
by Dick Hickcock and Perry smith. A majority of the book is primarily about how they go on a
run together, get arrested, and spend their time in jail. Dick and Perry are actually quite opposite.
Perry had an unfortunate childhood; his mother was an alcoholic who died when he was young.
His father was quite abusive, and he had been moved around a lot. When he was transferred to the
orphanage, he was beaten and bullied by the nuns. This is one of the reasons how Capote... Show

Until Hickock and Smith have been captured, the reader only knows that the four bodies were
discovered on the morning after the crime by the neighbors who had went to take Nancy Clutter to

Protagonist
We learn a lot more about Perry s life than any other character in the book. We learn so much
about his accountabilities, his childhood abuse for example. You can t help but feel sympathy for
this miserable kid who thinks he could have been someone in life. He tried in a pathetic and kind
of sad way to better himself, for example memorizing fancy words. If it weren t for the whole
murdering a whole family thing.
But all protagonists need an antagonist, and who is Perry s antagonist? In my opinion its actually
Perry himself. He s the evil he can t conquer.
Also Agent Alvin Dewey can be considered an antagonist. He s a hero we can truly root for. He
vows to track them down if it takes the rest of his life and he spends the rest of the book
constantly and aggressively doing just focusing on that specific case. Perry s confession to Dewey
about the night of terror and brutality at the Clutter home is 100% the centerpiece of the

Abortion Ethical Issue
Abortions have been an issue in this country for many years. Some people agree That abortion
should be illegal while others disagree and say that abortions should be legal. The three branches of
government have been called upon to address the issue.
There are many issues that pertain to abortion that must be resolved by the legislative branch of
the federal government. The members of Congress are obligated to support the will of the people
they represent and if those people are supportive of the practice of abortion as an after the act form
of birth control then so will the members of Congress be. The greatest issue may be the relationship
between law and morality and science and politics. One politician stated campaigning for abortion

Congress has made not a single law making abortion a legal practice in the country. President
Obama issues executive orders, that state that federal funds cannot be used to supplement
abortions or clinics that perform abortions. The President nominates Supreme Court justices that
rule on abortion cases and therefore the President potentially has more power to influence
abortion decisions. These chosen justices sit on the nation s highest court and actually decide
whether babies will live or die. President Obama stated Those of us who support a woman s
rights to decide to have an abortion and make intimate decisions about sex, sexuality, and
reproduction must also think and act strategically . A pro life Congress can propose all forms of
bills to defend women and babies, but unless both the house and senate have super pro life
plurality (290 seats in the House; 67 in the Senate), a pro abortion President can kill any legislation
with his veto pen. In 2013, President Barack Obama was the first sitting president to press the issue
about abortion. Obama stated planned parenthood is not going anywhere . President Obama talked
about Planned Parenthood to thousands of supporters.
In conclusion, we see that the discussion of abortion rights has been ongoing for decades with the
consensus of the three branches of government being that a woman should have a right to choose
whether to have a baby or not. Even though individual states have passed legislation either for or
against abortions, the final word has rested with the judicial and executive branches. The Supreme
Court ruled in Roe v. Wadethat a woman should have the right to choose. The executive branch
concurs with this ruling as long as federal monies are not

Flowers For Algernon Movie And Book Comparison
Flowers for Algernon is a touching novel written by Daniel Keyes and was published in April of
1959. Since then it has gotten loads of critical acclaim and has sold countless amounts of copies.
This incredible novel is a story about a Thirty Two year old man named Charlie Gordon, who is
mentally handicapped. Throughout the course of the novel Charlie is given a second chance at
life, a chance to be smart. After a successful test on mice, Dr. Strauss and Dr. Nemur are looking
for a human volunteer to test their artificial intelligence procedure on. After being recommended
for his determination by his teacher Ms. Kinnian, the doctors choose him. After becoming smart

Although being completely based on the story, the movie has many differences as well as
similarities and can be easily compared and contrasted. First, are the differences between the
movie and the textbook. A significant difference is the Chicago conference and Charlie s speech
at the conference. Although mentioned in the text book, the conference is never explained in full
detail. It was a wise decision of the director to implement this into the movie since it gives you
Charlie s perspective and opinion of the whole experiment. During the speech he explains how Dr.
Strauss basically manipulated him, and, Charlie also counter states Dr. Strauss s opinion on the old
Charlie, where Strauss calls him a mistake of nature and other harsh things. Seeing the firm tone
and serious expressions in Charlie as he presents his speech really reveals some of Charlie s strong
opinions. Another significant difference is

Ethnic Inequality
Ethnic inequality
The stereotypes derived from ethnic differences are a crucial source of inequality found in
education outcomes. According to Steele and Aronson (1995, p. 808), the concept of stereotype
threat refers to the condition of individuals at risk of conforming to the negative stereotypes
associated with them, which lead to self characterisation. This analysis of stereotype threat is
important because ethnicity plays a role in reproducing unequal academic performances. For
instance, past research has identified poorer mathematical performance in white men who were
confronted with the stereotype of Asian superiority in maths, compared to those without such
confrontation (Aronson et al. 1999, pp. 37 38). Similarly, a study has proven how the cultural
stereotype of black s intellectual inferiority is an affecting factor to the academic performances of
African American college students, as they perform poorer when stereotype was reinforced (Steele
Aronson 1995). These studies contend how ethnicity plays a part in categorising individuals into
separate identities, which have the ability to generate inequality in educational outcomes.
Additionally, the different cultural orientations of certain ethnic groups may either encourage or
discourage an individual s academic achievements (Kao Thompson 2003, p. 419). To illustrate, in
the United States (US), Asians represent the 54 per cent of individuals with bachelor s degree,
whereas Hispanics reported the lowest

As he s driving to the Topeka pumpkin patch, he sees a really cheap pumpkin vendor on the side

Discrimination Against Gays and Lesbians in the Workplace
The topic I have chosen for my research paper comes under the general heading of culture.
Culture may be defined as the language, beliefs, values, norms, and material objects passed from
one generation to the next. The specific topic I proposed to investigate is discrimination of
homosexuals in the workplace. This topic is particularly interesting to me because I am an
advocate of equality for all. I believe that no matter your race, age, sex, or sexual orientationyou
should be treated fairly. My paper will provide an in depth look at this type of discrimination, the
laws that protect the victims, and explain how this affects our society. Finally, I will describe the
insights I have gained in researching this topic as well as pose some... Show more content on

Some feel that same sex relationships are completely wrong and that they shouldn t be allowed
anywhere, especially in the workplace. But, there are others who are fighting for homosexual
equality. Another opinion is Don t Ask Don t Tell . Some employers feel that, if an employer s
personal life is not evident at work, he/she shouldn t make it known. They feel that what an
employee does in his/her personal life; is personal and they want to have an unbiased opinion.
From researching this topic I have gained a newfound insight about myself and the world around
me. Not only does prejudice affect your race, it also affects how you live your life, a job, and has
the basic needs in life. Homosexuals choose a life different from the norm of society and they have
to deal with the pressures of fitting in where they are told that they do not belong. It is put upon
them to conform to what society wants and not to be different. Researching discrimination against
gays and lesbians in the workplace helped me understand more about the struggles that they face.
Having seen the similarities that racism and sexual orientation have in common has made me want
to research further into the lives of homosexual persons.

The Reality of Sex Slavery in the Present Day

human trafficking occurs is because there was only so much food to go around (Atwood 117).
In a world with so much why do young children and families with so little have to suffer? Why
must these girls come to peace with the images they have seen? Why must families justify the

the children to survive there is a simple solution. If society was more aware of what was happening
the increase in awareness and charitable contributions could lead to a hopeful tomorrow. While this

Fredrick Definition Of A Hero
A hero is no braver than an ordinary man,but he is brave five minutes longer .(Ralph waldo

having special abilities, when it really isn t. Being a hero is all about helping people when being

Heroes are those who takes risk, just like Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln. Fredrick has
done a lot to be labeled as a hero for instance .They both stood up for what they believed in,even
though doing so put them in risk.According to Douglass s autobiography,Douglass wrote, speaking
to white people weighed him down , however,[he] became a well known abolitionist speaker.[he]
explained, from that time until now,he had been engaged in pleading the cause of his brethren
(Douglass72). This shows that although speaking to white people was intimidating speaking to the

Charles Darwin s Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection...
Darwin collected and described thousands of animals and plants. In South America he observed the
adaptations of organisms to a variety of habitat from jungle to grassland to mountain habitats. In the
temperate regions the species resembled more closely the species of the tropical regions of South
America rather than the corresponding speciesof the temperate regions of Europe. For example, in
the grasslands of Argentina there are no rabbits, however, there are rodents that resemble rabbits;
these rodents are unrelated to European rabbits but are similar to other rodents in South America.
Moreover, the fossils in South America are dissimilar to European fossils but have similarities with
extant (i.e. currently living) plants and animals... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cuvier founded the science of paleontology and described the differences between the fossil flora
and fauna in different strata of rock: he observed that the more recent strata had fossils that more
closely resembled extant organisms. Cuvier believed that the discontinuities between fossils in
different strata were brought about by catastrophes such as floods which caused the extinction of
many species living at a particular time. This interpretation of earth s history is termed
catastrophism and was also held by many contemporary geologists. By contrast, Hutton and
subsequently Lyell held that geological processes are slow and subtle but that over prolonged
periods of time (millions of years) these can lead to major changes; implicit in this viewpoint is an
age for the earth radically different from the 6,000 years of the biblical creationists.
Other key influences on Darwin were Malthus who had concluded that war and famine were
inevitable as the human population grew more rapidly than available resources, and Lamarck who
had proposed a theory of evolution based on a continuous process of gradual modification due to
acquired characteristics. Both Darwin and Wallace brought together a multitude of facts including
the geographical distribution of organisms, comparative morphology of living organisms and their
fossil precursors. They postulated that long term environmental changes including movement of

Finally, you may want to get your A/C checked before you hit the road. Nothing can dampen the
fun of a long summer road trip than a broken air conditioning. Your fun trip will quickly turn into
a sweaty mess. Run your air conditioning system and make sure that the air is cool. If the air

Before you start on a long road trip, make sure you check you brakes, windshield wipers, fluid

you from having to add a trip to the mechanic into your vacation plans.
You should also make sure that you are prepared for a road trip vehicle emergency. Carry an
extra container of coolant with you in your vehicle; it could come in handy if your vehicle

The Impact of the Internet on Society Essay
The Impact of the Internet on Society
The Internet is, quite literally, a network of networks. It is comprised of ten thousands of
interconnected networks spanning the globe. The computers that form the Internet range from
huge mainframes in research establishments to modest PCs in people s homes and offices. Despite
the recent hype, the Internet is not a new phenomenon. Its roots lie in a collection of computers that
were linked together in the 1970s to form the US Department of Defense s communications
systems. Fearing the consequences of nuclear attack, there was no central computer holding vast
amounts of data, rather the information was dispersed across thousands of machines. A set of rules,

One of the most commonly asked questions is, Will the Net help me sell more product? The answer
is yes, but in ways you might not expect. The Internet is a communication tool first, not and

Nature Vs Nurture Wuthering Heights
In Emily BrontС‘ s Wuthering Heights gothic elements such as recurring deaths, and the ruins of
Wuthering Heights work together to further the plot and support the theme, nature vs. nurture.
Death brings more than despair for the characters in this novel. Characters such as those in
Wuthering Heights can be directly affected by death, whether it they have a change in mood or a
whole new mindset from it. Heathcliff, for example, became deranged from Catherine s death. He
became a practically evil man. Heathcliff becoming the wicked man he portrays sets the novel

differences of the houses amplified the difference in class, stature, and ways of life. The ruins of
Wuthering Heights made those living there have a different mindset and look as if they couldn t
reach the Thrushcross standards. Also, those who lived at Wuthering Heights had a much different
attitude, this because Wuthering Heights nurtures those into whom they become. For instance,
Catherine, after leaving Wuthering Heights came back Nelly describes her as, a very dignified
person.... as opposed to, a wild, hatless little savage (BrontС‘ 52). Her time at the ruined Wuthering
Heights made her into a ruined and hateful girl herself. If Wuthering Heights resembled that of

The Need For Data, Collaboration, Trust And Successful...
The Challenge The need for data, collaboration, trust and successful peer training are the most
important aspects of developing the program I am going to design. As a first year Department
Head of the Fine Arts Department within a large public school, I have been assigned the task of
leading this department from a regular grading system to a Standards Based Grading system.
This type of change is what Schlecty (2007) describes as a systematic change. According to
Zepeda (2012), this type of change is the least understood and the most difficult to achieve (pg.
26). This is especially true for educators such as those on my team, whose teaching techniques
have been the same for many years. The implementation of standards based grading uproots
almost every aspect of classroom teaching. Grade scales are different, assessments are greatly
different and the idea of remediation is paramount to SBG. While this conversion may not seem
like a difficult task for a teacher, there are several factors that make it extremely challenging for
myself to convince others to support. For one, all other 7 faculty members in the department
have been teaching at the school for a few years longer than myself. This is why trust is one of
my main key elements on which to focus. Having taught in another part of the state for many
years, I must find a way to prove to them that I am on their team and will do everything in my
power to keep their interests and concern on the top of the list.

Essay about Italian and Northern European Renaissance
Italian and Northern European Renaissance
The Italian and Northern Europe Renaissances were both an important mark in history by changing
the ideals of life, thought, culture, and art of the people s of this time. In this paper I will explain
the motive for change in these cultures, including the similarities and differences of the two
cultures. The Italian and Northern European Renaissance was the marking point for leaving behind
the old ways and moving into the more classical ideals and civilizations for Italy and Northern
Europe. However, Northern Europe developed their ideals more slowly then Italy did. For one
thing, the north held on to Gothic (or Middle Ages ) art and architecture with a tighter, longer grip

The classical aspects were used to humanize the Christian and secular buildings. The High
Renaissance in Italy, although short lived, was extremely important on the influences of future
Italian art. During the High Renaissance the main focus on Florence, for the arts, shifted to Rome
due to the power and wealth from the popes. Because of the move from Florence to Rome, the two
most important factors of this time, Classicism and Christianity, were merged into one. Italian ideas
were also brought northward through trade and commerce into Europe, where they had a
tremendous amount of influence on the artistic traditions there as well (Benton amp; DiYanni,
2008). Both the Italian and Northern European Renaissance had interest in changing their ideals in
individualism, humanism, and classicism, which has a large impact on their cultures, and arts.
Many of the literary works of this time expressed the same interests between Italy and Northern
Europe. Examples can be seen in the writings of Petrarch (Italian) and Michel de Montaigne
(Northern European). Both of these writers expressed the importance and idealism of humanism.
The literature during this time was a wonderful looking glass into the similarities and differences of
Italy and Northern Europe. After looking at the Italian and Northern Europe Renaissances, one can
see the many similarities between the arts and cultures, but the differences of these cultures are not

Fashion In The Workplace Essay
The workplace can consist of a diversity of people, and a diversity of workplace fashion. Let me
tell you about the diverse workplace fashion I observe at my place of employment, South Padre
Island City Hall. Being the front desk receptionist, I see most of my coworkers throughout the day
and have categorized the fashion at my workplace as follows: The Business Professional, HR
Inappropriate, Casual Islander, The Flamboyant Fashionistas, and Office Uniform. In an
organization that consists of at least 10 different departments and one hundred and fifty plus
employees, personality is displayed through a variety of workplace fashion. The Business
Professional. Slacks, suits, and formal dresses or skirts should be worn when there are important
meetings being held at City Hall. While City Council meeting days are designated days that
business professional attire must be worn by all, there are employees who wearbusiness
professional attire throughout the entire week. Our City Manager is fairly new and came from
the City of Tyler. Her preferred workplace fashion is business professional with black being the
color she wears the most. Within the first few months for working for the city, the City Council
advised her that she should try incorporating more color into her wardrobe since the city is an
Island as well. She has taken the councils advise and has incorporated a little more color into her
wardrobe, but still, black is her go to color. The City Manager s office and much of

Theme Of The Absolutely True Diary Of A Part Time Indian
This book, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian by Sherman Alexie, is about a boy
called Arnold Spirit aka Junior. He is a Native American that lives in an Indian Reservation. He
isn t really satisfied with his life, since he s pretty poor, but he gets along. He doesn t really
accept himself, since he has multiple medical problems, and he has been beaten up since he was
little. When he starts to gain more friends in this new (American) school, he starts to like and
accept himself more than before. In this book, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian
(by Sherman Alexie), the main theme is about Arnold trying to accept himself. At first Junior
didn t like himself; he was constantly beaten up, he had a lisp and stuttered so he had no self
confidence. When he made the decision to go to Reardan, a white school, even Rowdy left him.
Rowdy thought Junior was betraying their school by going away and transferring so Rowdy
didn t talk to Junior anymore. Without his best friend, Junior completely lost hope. He was
scared of the white people and did not expect them to welcome him. He was right. Most of the
Americans were cold to him and he did not try to raise his status. Many of the white people made
fun of him, and when one guy, Roger, said Did you know that Indians are living proof that niggers

The Digital Data Genesis And It s Impact On The Mgm Grand...
Technology trends are related to the widespread adoption of mobile platforms, the Green IT
movement, the open source software, cloud computing and the digital data genesis phenomena. the
amount of data that is used everyday speaks to the way that companies are evolving and businesses
are updating. Our wiki will focus on the latest trend: the DigitalData Genesis and it s impact on the
MGM Grand CasinoLas Vegas (Taylor). (Alyssa Edited) Digital data can provide new
opportunities for firms. Companies may have to deal with a high volume of transactional data,
capturing trillions of bytes of information about their customers and operations (Vitari and
Raguseo, p. 76) (Taylor). Millions of sensors are embedded in the physical world in devices such
as mobile phones, smart energy meters, automobiles, and industrial machines that sense, create and
communicate data in the digitalized age . (Vitari and Raguseo, p. 78) (Taylor). DDG further
explained: When a process is digitalized (e.g., a purchasing of a good on the Internet), it is carried
out through a digital computeror device. When an entity is digitalized (e.g., an RFID enabled good
track), the company has the ability to access an informational representation of that entity (e.g., the
position of a good along the supply chain), and generate relevant data from it (Vitari and Raguseo,
p. 84) (Taylor). . All of the data is generated in digital forms. To understand this concept, consider
three examples, the usage of RFID

Informal Dueling
This week in Defense Against the Dark Arts, we covered the basics of dueling. This lesson
covered the differences between a formal duel and an informal duel. During a formal duel, a
formal challenge is issued to an opponent. Only magical means of dueling can be used. A
mediator is chosen, as well as seconds for each opponent. A second is someone who takes the place
of the person in the duelshould they be needed to. The duel ends when one person forfeits, the
original participant and second are both unable to continue the duel due to being disarmed or
seriously injured, or both people being killed. In a formal duel, the opponents must bow to one
another at the beginning of the duel, as this indicates respect to your opponent. An informal duel...

One of the formal duels was between Alberta Toothill and Samson Wiblin, which was a part of
the 1493 All England Dueling Competition. The second one we learned about was between
Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald in 1945. Albus Dumbledore won and Grindelwald
was sent to prison. The two informal duels that we studied were the three way duel between
Albus Dumbledore, Aberforth Dumbledore, and Gellert Grindelwald, and the massive duel
between Harry Potter, Ronald Weasley, Dobby the House Elf, Bellatrix Lestrange, Fenrir
Greyback, and the Malfoy family. Both of these informal duels ended in death. During the
Dumbledore Dumbledore Grindelwald duel, Ariana Dumbledore, sister to the two Dumbledores
involved in the duel, attempted to intervene and was hit by a rogue spell and died. Clearly, had
this been a formal duel, her death would not have happened because someone would have
prevented things from getting out of hand. Additionally, had more attention been paid to their
surroundings, her presence would have been noticed and the spell, perhaps would not have been
cast. During the massive duel, Bellatrix used non magical means to kill Dobby (she threw a knife).
Again, had this been a formal duel, these methods would not have been allowed and Dobby would
have escaped with his

Immigration Reforms
Finding immigration services in the Dallas area has gotten more and more difficult in recent years
because the immigration process has grown incredibly complicated. In the last few years numerous
new regulations have been put into effect, altering how immigration will go forward. At the same
time, those new regulations have been rendered more problematic by recent court decisions. All of
these changes mean that it is incredibly challenging for an individual to sort through the aspects of
immigrationand find the right way to press forward on their own.
The first step towards making sense of all of these new immigration reforms lies in understanding
whether or not they might apply to you. Again, you need to remember that right now many of the

Essay about Garden State, Cool Hand Luke, and The Last...
In the movie Garden State, Natalie Portman s character is trying to get Zach Braff s character to

no one has ever done before and no one will copy through out human existence. And if nothing
else you ll be remembered as the one guy who ever did this... this one thing. It s movies like this,
movies that are written with great meaning, that I walk away from with just this warm

It inspired me to make every moment something unique. You know, try and be yourself and
whatever becomes of yourself. Don t worry about other opinions or other people s prejudiced
judgments. If I could take one thing away from Garden State it would have to be: You are what
you are for a reason, whatever that reason is, it shouldn t be because others want you to be that way.
Another example of a movie that has inspired me would have to be one of the greatest movies of
all time, and in that I mean Cool Hand Luke. This movie is a movie I can watch time and time
again. Paul Newman gives a hell of a performance, playing Luke. The whole story of this
rebellious inmate, part of a southern chain gang, who goes against all rules was magnificent. He
would try to escape time and time again even after getting the shit kicked out of him, he would
do it again and again. Someone bet him that he couldn t eat 50 eggs in an hour. He did it just to
prove them wrong, even though it made him violently ill. But the scene that gave me that feeling
of wow was when he was boxing one of the inmates and he didn t fight back. He got the fuck
knocked out him. And kept standing right back up each time it became more difficult. But he kept
on fighting to get up until his opposition stopped fighting. This movie makes me wish I was more

Founders Brian Halligan and Dharmesh Shah of upstart inbound marketing firm HubSpot have
come to a crossroads in their business model. The direction of the company must adapt in order to
continue on the stated path of growing as big as possible, as fast as possible. HubSpot is facing
two problems that it must address in order to accomplish its goals.
First, HubSpot has a corporate culture centered on an evangelical attitude towards inbound
marketing. HubSpot offers the services of inbound marketing, which uses strategies such as Search
Engine Optimization (SEO), the ability to write compelling content that attracts customers and the
ability to attract and engage a community of followers who interact with the content.

While not going so far as to begin cold calling for new clients, HubSpot could develop a targeted
outbound marketing campaign in environments such as industry trade shows that may open up the
company to potential customers who may have yet to hear of HubSpot, try their services or contact
them about service subscription. If done properly, HubSpot could use an outbound marketing
strategy for its inbound and outbound services while still staying true to its roots.
Alternatives for pricing
The pricing structure has the potential to evolve in a number of different ways. HubSpot could go
begin selling subscriptions for longer intervals beyond month to month to lock in customers for
longer periods of times. This could be particularly beneficial for keeping the Owner Ollies from
canceling services immediately after receiving the majority of the added value.
HubSpot could also begin charging B2B and B2C customers differently as well. B2B customers
derive greater value and could be charged an added premium or conversely B2C customers could
be given an added discount of services if combined with a longer subscription purchase.
Hubspot could also increase its initial fee of $500 for Owner Ollies who reap the majority of the
benefits upfront and who don t require as much customer service. A discount to this increase could
be coupled with participation with the CMS service, thus increasing the chance the customer stays

A Battle Of Endings By James Cameron
Sundiata Short Essay Andrew Davis Professor Benander Topics in Literature 4 November 2012 A
Battle of Endings It is widely believed that the ending makes the story. What would Titanic, the
movie by James Cameron, be without its ending? In the epics of Kirikou and Sundiata, we see two
distinctly different endings that would cause different responses from different audiences. The
Treatment of the villain is significant in the end because it brings into question the judgment of the
hero. Examining how others respond to the shadow is important because it allows people to
examine what they would do to treat the shadow who wronged others. A modern teenage Disney
audience would be more satisfied with the treatment Sundiata gave to his enemies, because
Sundiata tries his best to satisfy the people who were affected by the rule of the shadow. Sundiata s
treatment of the enemies should be established before getting into the argument. Sundiata just
wants the shadow out of the way of the goal of the conquering Mali, but he tries to please his
people, the maiden, in serving justice to the Shadow. Some may argue that Sundiata really wanted
to kill Soumaoro because of the treachery he brought upon Mali. However, Sundiata proves that
defeating Mali is more important than killing the shadow when the book by D.T. Niane of the
Longman African Writers states, Straight away the son of Sogolon sent some of them towards the
river to completely guard the mountain (67), notice he did not

Unknown Bacteria Importance
In everyday life we run into millions of microbes. Some of the bacteria is capable of making
humans sick. The study of microbes has become very important subject to help stop potential
pandemics and ensure proper hygiene. Anthony van Leeuwenhoek was the first scientist who
discovered bacteria. In my study of microbiology, I got to choose an unknown bacteriato identify. It
is important to start off finding the family of the unknown bacteria and then eliminating one by
one the species to know which bacteria it is. By knowing the family, a scientist can save
themselves a lot of time by knowing which tests need to be performed for the elimination process.
This might seem like a waste of time to one but being able to correctly identify bacteria... Show

Depending on what a bacteria can and cannot do, will help to correctly identify it. It is always
important to start out with a purity check. To achieve that, you can inoculate an agar plate and
incubate for 48 hours. Make sure you only see one type of colonies on the plate. Knowing the
optimal temperature for the bacteria will also let a scientist know where to place the different
types of medias he/she inoculates with the unknown bacteria. Knowing if you are working with
a gram positive or gram negative bacterium, a scientist will need to perform a gram stain. This
will also help to see the shape and arrangement of the bacteria. The size can be determined by
doing a simple stain. The size of most bacteria ranges from .5 10um. This specific bacteria that I
was working with, was smaller than 2um. Most bacteria can grow with the presence of oxygen.
A simple test like the gas pack can be performed to figure out if growth is possible without
oxygen is doable. My unknown bacteria needs oxygen to grow. Throughout my study, the
unknown bacteria was tested to see if it can grow in acidic conditions, however no growth
occurred. Before inoculation, the substrate was a clear yellow color and in liquid state. After
receiving the negative result, I kept the broth in the 37C incubator for 7 more days to confirm the
negative result. Using premade slants with different types of sugars such as Mannitol, Sorbitol,
Lactose, Trehalose, Maltose and Sucrose, to determine if the bacteria can metabolize glucose and
if the bacteria is oxidative or fermentative. It was determined that my bacteria is strictly oxidative
(needs oxygen to grow) and cannot metabolize glucose. Another test was done to confirm if the
bacteria was able to utilize different carbohydrates in the presence of oxygen. I used Cellobiose,
Arabinose, Adonitol, Fructose and Malonate wee tabs. Out of the 5 different types of
carbohydrates, only 3 different

Religion In Ancient Greece
In ancient Greece mythology was a big part of the world around them. Greek religion was a
mixture of Minoan beliefs, Central Asian and Indo Europeans gods, and West Asian ideas they
got from their neighbors. Ancient Greeks believed that there were powerful gods and spirits that
could control what happened to you. Most people also thought that you could convince those
gods to favor you through sacrifice, prayer, and living a good life. If you did this successfully, you
would have enough food, and if not, you might starve. People also tried to control other natural
forces like earthquakes and plagues, and prayed for guidance and strategies to win battles and wars.

had done wrong, or maybe something the rulers of the town had done wrong. Ancient Greek

Ancient Greece Religion is important to know about because through it we are able to understand
how they lived their lives. Some aspects of the Greek religion may seem barbaric and ridiculous to
the casual observer, but that is not really for us to judge. The importance of the ancient Greek
religion lies not in their almost blind devotion to the gods, but in the major contribution to modern
literature of the Greek mythology. These stories of gods and goddesses interacting with mortals are
still familiar, and still enjoyed, by humans worldwide, thousands of years after they were written
and told merely as simple tales to explain the unexplainable in

are meant to attract boys. Upon the packages of toy trucks and guns, there are pictures of young
boys playing with them and/or cartoon male figures controlling them. On the packaging of Barbie

  • 3. The Scarlett and the Black Essay Good vs. Evil Albert Einstein once said, God did not create evil. Just as darkness is the absence of light, evil is the absence of God. During WWII, many horrific atrocities were committed by the Axis Powers, specifically Nazi Germany. Germany, Japan, and Italy represent the evil side of the war, while the Allied Powers consisting of Russia, France, and Britain represented the good side attempting to overcome the evil. More precisely, the two main characters in The Scarlet and the Black , Colonel Herbert Kappler and Monsignor O Flaherty represent the powers of evil and good respectively. Throughout the film, the forces of good and evil turn from working against each other, to coming more close together and good eventually overcoming... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Contrary to the forces of evil represented in the film, the forces of good were led by Monsignor O Flaherty, an Irish clergy man who ran an underground organization while Nazi Germanyoccupied Rome. It was not a one man show however, because O Flaherty had the help of Ms. Francesca Lombardo and other Romans in his operations. Throughout the course of the movie, Monsignor had many successes in his operation, even with the attempts by Kappler to destroy the group because O Flaherty had clever plans and several disguises. In the larger picture, the forces of good were symbolized by the Allies. As the war progressed, these forces of good had success as they pushed down into Italy and overcame German resistance. When the Allies finally entered Rome in the summer of 1944, Monsignor joined the celebration of liberation and the conquering of the forces of evil in Italy. The forces of good had their successes but also had their failures. For example, when Kappler is recaptured escaped prisoners, he exploited and oppressed the population and many of O Flaherty s friends were either arrested or killed. Also, Monsignor was also the target of an assassination attempt which failed though. Even though Kappler tried many times to shut O Flaherty s operation down, the rescue organization continued in saving many lives, which can be looked at as a major ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Owning a weapon is a big time responsibility and everybody around those gun owners are affected. All of these guns affect people s lives, both positively and negatively. People make their own choices and it is up to them with how they handle their weapons. For every 100 Americans of 18 years or older, there are 117 firearms (Phillips). Many Americans all over the country own a gun. With all of the guns in the United States, there comes a lot of controversy. According to Phillips, nations with firearmownership rating closest to the United States have less than half the firearms. This shows that a lot of citizens either want guns or they need them, or both. Hopefully if they need guns, they are for protection or recreation. All 50 states allow citizens to get licenses to carry concealed handguns. Since 2013, all of the states have felt comfortable enough to allow the people living there to carry a weapon. ... Between 2007 and 2014, the percentage of the adult population with permits soared by 178%. Overall violent crime also fell by 25 percent over that period of time (Lott). While many more of the American people have purchased guns over the years, the crime rate has also seen a change. Many might think that more guns might lead to more problems, but the crime rate has actually decreased. There could be many valid reasons for why the crime rate went down. • 8. Hawaiian Missionaries The first missionaries arrived to the Hawaiian Islands in 1820 and made a lot of changes to Hawaii when they arrived, both good and bad. When the missionaries arrived to the islands they thought of the natives as savages. They all needed to become converts to followers of Christ, drop their own beliefs and pick up new ones. They also sought out to civilize the natives, by teaching them how to read and write, sing and Christianize them. Hiram Bingham and Asa Thurston were the first of many missionaries to arrive in Hawaii. The Queen at the time, Kaahumanu accepted the arrival of the missionaries from New England to teach their religion. Asa Thurston stayed with Liholiho, and Bingham led the others to Honolulu and arrived there on April 14,1820. Bingham had a hard time setting up mission schools and drawing the islanders in for them to learn. A lot of the Hawaiians were interested in what was going on, but never really stayed around, they did not like the clothes and learning to read and they thought writing was just to hard, but they were still able to teach a good number of them. There were also many things the Hawaiians did that the missionaries thought were a disgraceful. They viewed hula as sinful and too provocative, and they were not overjoyed with polygamy and incest, marrying into their same bloodline happening everywhere. It was going to be a huge job for these missionaries to change this place around. They did what they could and it would make a huge impact on Hawaii eventually. The missionaries developed a successful alphabet for Hawaiian by 1826, taught Hawaiians to read and write the language, published various educational books in Hawaiian, and eventually finished translating the Bible. Soon after the first Protestant missionaries arrived in Hawaii in 1820, Kaahumanu embraced the missionaries teaching, and Christianity. Kaahumanu was born in 1768 she married Kamehameha. When he died he passed down the crown to his son Liholiho. But Kaahumanu and Liholiho ruled as equal because Kamahameha thought his son lacked leadership ability. So ... • 9. William Shakespeare s Powerful Use of Language Essay We have all certainly heard the expression the pen is mightier than the sword and as Hamlet states when he realizes the power of words: I will speak daggers to her, but use none (Hamlet 3.2: 366). William Shakespeare is one of the most important writers in history and arguably the most notable, particularly with his use of language. I believe that Shakespeare consistently uses the knowledge that language is power to his advantage throughout his plays. From themes of power, control, disguise, deception, and manipulation, there remains the underlying theme that ties all of these together: the power of language. The beauty of Shakespeare s work and what makes it resonate even today is his use of discretion and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The power of language holds great significance not only in Shakespearean study but of our daily lives as well. Every nuance Shakespeare creates leaves a clue to a greater truth or understanding of our humanity. Exploring the works of Shakespeare with this in mind allows for audiences to gain more appreciation and awareness of the depth of language and communication through his dialogue and characters as Shakespeare: asks us to adorn the actor with our thoughts and carry them here and there, jumping o er the times (Bevington xiii). King Henry in Henry V is a great example of how language can mask and band together his constituents as well as tug at the admiration of the audience. In his band of brothers speech Henry exclaims We few, we happy few, we band of brothers/For he today that sheds his blood with me shall be my brother/Be he ne er so vile (Henry V 4.3: 60 62). Effectively, Henry conveys the notion that on the battlefield each man stands alongside their King without division, while simultaneously saying they can only elevate themselves to his level through death and sacrifice to his cause. It proves an effective speech rallying his soldiers and the audience gains a sense of admiration for the Tudor king. The convection of his words swirls with deception as Henry is knowingly and willingly creating a sense of honor in death for a cause that serves none other than his own purposes. Yet it remains ... • 10. Essay about How Owen Meany is Directly Compared to Jesus... How Owen Meany is Directly Compared to Jesus Christ Throughout the novel a prayer for Owen Meany, by John Irving, the main character is portrayed as a very religious martyr. In the Christian faith Jesus Christ is a martyr as well. Although there are many differences between the life of Jesus, as depicted in the bible and Owen Meany, there are many similarities as well, so many in fact, that the reader is forced to ponder if these similarities are intentional. Jesus Christ was a miracle birth: he was born from a virgin. The virgin will be with child and she will give birth to a son Matthew 1:23 To be born from virgin makes the child blessed because the mother is then untouched and pure. Owen Meany ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They were also both given an opportunity to escape this fate. In fact Peter asks Jesus to run from the Roman s, to which Jesus replies it is God s will for me to die. Similarly Hester begs Owen to not go to Vietnam, saying they could instead move to Canada and live there for the rest of their lives. Owen instead refuses, prepared to meet the plan God intended for him. This act of not running makes both Jesus and Owen a martyr; both having died to save people, both dying as well for their faith, both putting all their trust in God. His best friend tells the retelling of Owen s life: John. John s faith is kindled after the martyr death of Owen, and John is inspired to chronicle Owen s life. Owen met John when John hadn t made any positive declaration of his faith; his faith changed as his family did, and his belief in the church was sketchy at best. Owen, meanwhile, had absolute trust in God. Whenever John would talk about random chance, Owen would be angered, and instead call it God s will. But when Owen s life ends, John s faith is rekindled, and he becomes a devout Anglican. In the Bible, John was a Jesus first deciple and best friend to Jesus. The bible depicts that John didn t have absolute faith in God, but he had faith in Jesus, which was why he followed him. But when Jesus is crucified John sees this miracle and converts to Christianity himself. As well, John is inspired to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Having been under the influence of his mother all his life, he now saw an opportunity to do what he wanted instead. Within the first year of his reign he had made it obvious to her that she was not going to be sharing his power. When an Armenian ambassador visited Rome, Nero did not let Agrippina sit next to him to receive the guest. During the following months, mother and son quarelled openly about his affair with an ex slave girl called Acte. He was already married to Octavia, daulghter of Claudius. Agrippina did not approve of this liaison and at this point started to get closer with Britannicus, Claudius s son with the unfortunate Messalina. When Nero saw this he realised this could be a threat to his reign, so he had Britannicus poisoned and forced Agrippina to move out of the palace, took her bodyguard away and slapped a lawsuit on her. Despite her distance from Court, Agrippina did not stop trying to interfere with things. Being the daughter of Germanicus was a big deal and this ensured she was not ignored. When Nero started an affair with Poppaea Sabina, trouble really started. Poppaea was an upper class woman who could marry Nero if he divorced Octavia. The number of Death Penalty executions from 1977 2010 by color coded States follows: (Death Penalty Information Center, 2012). The basic dispute involving the Death Penalty is whether or not it should be abolished. This dispute has raged for decades in the United States and people on both sides of the debate appear to be equally passionate. Anti Death Penalty individuals propose numerous arguments for banning the Death Penalty; this paper will address three of them: some innocent people are sentenced to death; the Death Penalty is administered arbitrarily; and the Death Penalty is not a deterrent. After presenting those three anti Death Penalty arguments, the pro Death Penalty responses will be examined. Anti Death Penalty Arguments One argument against the Death Penalty is that innocent people are wrongfully convicted and sentenced to death. While the Innocence Project, associated with the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, was not established to abolish the Death Penalty, many of its findings support the innocent convict argument. Sentenced by the mandate of human justice and pure alienable intuition, we as humans of this earth are subjected to treat one another fairly and equally. Due to the rise in human population, the density of competition, and factors of genetic variation as well as chance, some individuals become affected by outside forces and render themselves victims of disability. Some individuals become incapable of walking, others incapable of writing, and others who sacrifice their lives for the freedom of human growth, peace, and security for its citizens. As the increasing struggle of freedom grew, the United Statesof America came to the realization that individuals with disabilities were citizens with equal rights, and those citizens have unique strengths that help stimulate innovation as well as work in the economy even though they are presented with a disadvantage. These chosen justices sit on the nation s highest court and actually decide whether babies will live or die. President Obama stated Those of us who support a woman s rights to decide to have an abortion and make intimate decisions about sex, sexuality, and reproduction must also think and act strategically . • 25. Ethnic Inequality Ethnic inequality The stereotypes derived from ethnic differences are a crucial source of inequality found in education outcomes. According to Steele and Aronson (1995, p. 808), the concept of stereotype threat refers to the condition of individuals at risk of conforming to the negative stereotypes associated with them, which lead to self characterisation. This analysis of stereotype threat is important because ethnicity plays a role in reproducing unequal academic performances. For instance, past research has identified poorer mathematical performance in white men who were confronted with the stereotype of Asian superiority in maths, compared to those without such confrontation (Aronson et al. 1999, pp. 37 38). Similarly, a study has proven how the cultural stereotype of black s intellectual inferiority is an affecting factor to the academic performances of African American college students, as they perform poorer when stereotype was reinforced (Steele Aronson 1995). These studies contend how ethnicity plays a part in categorising individuals into separate identities, which have the ability to generate inequality in educational outcomes. Additionally, the different cultural orientations of certain ethnic groups may either encourage or discourage an individual s academic achievements (Kao Thompson 2003, p. 419). Heros put other people s feelings into to their shoes and show their empathy towards they. They don t let the go through things alone. In South America he observed the adaptations of organisms to a variety of habitat from jungle to grassland to mountain habitats. In the temperate regions the species resembled more closely the species of the tropical regions of South America rather than the corresponding speciesof the temperate regions of Europe. For example, in the grasslands of Argentina there are no rabbits, however, there are rodents that resemble rabbits; these rodents are unrelated to European rabbits but are similar to other rodents in South America. Moreover, the fossils in South America are dissimilar to European fossils but have similarities with extant (i.e. currently living) plants and animals... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cuvier founded the science of paleontology and described the differences between the fossil flora and fauna in different strata of rock: he observed that the more recent strata had fossils that more closely resembled extant organisms. Cuvier believed that the discontinuities between fossils in different strata were brought about by catastrophes such as floods which caused the extinction of many species living at a particular time. This interpretation of earth s history is termed catastrophism and was also held by many contemporary geologists. By contrast, Hutton and subsequently Lyell held that geological processes are slow and subtle but that over prolonged periods of time (millions of years) these can lead to major changes; implicit in this viewpoint is an age for the earth radically different from the 6,000 years of the biblical creationists. Other key influences on Darwin were Malthus who had concluded that war and famine were inevitable as the human population grew more rapidly than available resources, and Lamarck who had proposed a theory of evolution based on a continuous process of gradual modification due to acquired characteristics. Both Darwin and Wallace brought together a multitude of facts including the geographical distribution of organisms, comparative morphology of living organisms and their fossil precursors. They postulated that long term environmental changes including movement of land ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The differences of the houses amplified the difference in class, stature, and ways of life. The ruins of Wuthering Heights made those living there have a different mindset and look as if they couldn t reach the Thrushcross standards. The Challenge The need for data, collaboration, trust and successful peer training are the most important aspects of developing the program I am going to design. As a first year Department Head of the Fine Arts Department within a large public school, I have been assigned the task of leading this department from a regular grading system to a Standards Based Grading system. This type of change is what Schlecty (2007) describes as a systematic change. According to Zepeda (2012), this type of change is the least understood and the most difficult to achieve (pg. 26). This is especially true for educators such as those on my team, whose teaching techniques have been the same for many years. The implementation of standards based grading uproots almost every aspect of classroom teaching. Grade scales are different, assessments are greatly different and the idea of remediation is paramount to SBG. While this conversion may not seem like a difficult task for a teacher, there are several factors that make it extremely challenging for myself to convince others to support. For one, all other 7 faculty members in the department have been teaching at the school for a few years longer than myself. This is why trust is one of my main key elements on which to focus. Having taught in another part of the state for many years, I must find a way to prove to them that I am on their team and will do everything in my power to keep their interests and concern on the top of the list. ... The Italian and Northern European Renaissance was the marking point for leaving behind the old ways and moving into the more classical ideals and civilizations for Italy and Northern Europe. However, Northern Europe developed their ideals more slowly then Italy did. For one thing, the north held on to Gothic (or Middle Ages ) art and architecture with a tighter, longer grip ... The High Renaissance in Italy, although short lived, was extremely important on the influences of future Italian art. During the High Renaissance the main focus on Florence, for the arts, shifted to Rome due to the power and wealth from the popes. Because of the move from Florence to Rome, the two most important factors of this time, Classicism and Christianity, were merged into one. Italian ideas were also brought northward through trade and commerce into Europe, where they had a tremendous amount of influence on the artistic traditions there as well (Benton amp; DiYanni, 2008). Both the Italian and Northern European Renaissance had interest in changing their ideals in individualism, humanism, and classicism, which has a large impact on their cultures, and arts. Many of the literary works of this time expressed the same interests between Italy and Northern Europe. Examples can be seen in the writings of Petrarch (Italian) and Michel de Montaigne (Northern European). Both of these writers expressed the importance and idealism of humanism. A Battle Of Endings By James Cameron Sundiata Short Essay Andrew Davis Professor Benander Topics in Literature 4 November 2012 A Battle of Endings It is widely believed that the ending makes the story. What would Titanic, the movie by James Cameron, be without its ending? In the epics of Kirikou and Sundiata, we see two distinctly different endings that would cause different responses from different audiences. The Treatment of the villain is significant in the end because it brings into question the judgment of the hero. Examining how others respond to the shadow is important because it allows people to examine what they would do to treat the shadow who wronged others. A modern teenage Disney audience would be more satisfied with the treatment Sundiata gave to his enemies, because Sundiata tries his best to satisfy the people who were affected by the rule of the shadow. Sundiata s treatment of the enemies should be established before getting into the argument. Sundiata just wants the shadow out of the way of the goal of the conquering Mali, but he tries to please his people, the maiden, in serving justice to the Shadow. Depending on what a bacteria can and cannot do, will help to correctly identify it. It is always important to start out with a purity check. To achieve that, you can inoculate an agar plate and incubate for 48 hours. Make sure you only see one type of colonies on the plate. Knowing the optimal temperature for the bacteria will also let a scientist know where to place the different types of medias he/she inoculates with the unknown bacteria. Knowing if you are working with a gram positive or gram negative bacterium, a scientist will need to perform a gram stain. This will also help to see the shape and arrangement of the bacteria. The size can be determined by doing a simple stain. The size of most bacteria ranges from .5 10um. This specific bacteria that I was working with, was smaller than 2um. Most bacteria can grow with the presence of oxygen. A simple test like the gas pack can be performed to figure out if growth is possible without oxygen is doable. My unknown bacteria needs oxygen to grow. Throughout my study, the unknown bacteria was tested to see if it can grow in acidic conditions, however no growth occurred.
