2. President Obama Speech On Income Inequality And
Economic...
On December 4, 2013, President Barack Obama addressed the nation, focusing on
income inequality and economic mobility. President Obama claimed that The
combined trends of the increased inequality and decreasing mobility pose a
fundamental threat to the American Dream, our way of life, and what we stand for
around the globe (The White House, 2013b). President Obama also stated that this is
the defining challenge of our time (The White House, 2013). The challenge he was
referring to the ability of the economy to work for all working Americans. Currently,
with the income distribution inequality facing the United States, one could argue that
the economy is not functioning for everyone. President Obama feels that in order to
decrease the income inequality and improve mobility, the government must step in
and put policies in place. Without government intervention and implementing
policies, including a raise in minimum wage, the United States will not be able to
achieve and acceptable distribution of income or an acceptable incentive for
productivity. The current distribution of income in the United States is a result of the
free market failing. According to the United States Census Bureau, the top fifth of the
income earners took home 51% of the national income while the bottom fifth took
home a mere 3.2% (United States of Commerce, 2014). Income of the top fifth has
been slowly increasing through the past ten years and the bottom fifth has been
slowly decreasing.
3. Butterfly Circus Essay
Recently I watched the short film Butterfly Circus by Joshua Weigel and I was
very pleased. Prior to watching the movie, only having read the title I immediately
thought this was going to be a cartoon for a young child. As I watched the first
scene I shortly realized this was not the case. Weigel introduces a familiar face Nick
Vujicic, The Limbless man, a main character in this short film. The film is about the
famous showman going to a small circus sideshowand finding the magnificent
limbless man in a time of anguish while being bullied by the audience and other
members of the freak show. After the limbless man s encounter with the showman he
is forced to gain hope against anything negative he has ever believed.
This movie opens with the setting in the depression era. A fleet of old cars
traveling down a dirt road passing families as they watch the car caravan with
sorrowful eyes. Inside the fleet of old cars is the company of the renowned
Butterfly Circus on their way to the next town to lift the spirits of their audiences.
As they pass a sign for a carnival sideshow, the little boy asks the driver if they can
go. The driver answers reluctantly so the little boy ask Mr. Mendez, the famous
showman, and he says, why not . Among the carousel, the fortune teller, and the
games they find the show that everyone has come to see. There sits a small tent that
is known as the best freak show in town . In this company of freaks there is the

Character Development in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer s Stone by J.K. Rowling
Fantasy appeals to us, to put it crudely, because of the relationship between magic
and morality. An alternate world filled with strange and wonderful things, a world
defined by imagination, gives us a setting in which to lose ourselves within. J.K.
Rowling has done this and has captured the minds and hearts of readers all around
the world with her bestselling series Harry Potter . As we engage in the engrossing
narrative following Harry Potter and his friends, some may be able to relate to the
lives of such characters. J.K. Rowling takes an undeniably riveting approach to
showcasing the round characterizations throughout her novel Harry Potter and The
Sorcerer s Stone to such a degree that the reader can personally identify with such
characters.
Harry Potter comes from an abusive home yet he is humble even when he realizes
his fame. Harry s humility is no doubt ingrained in him during his ten miserable
years of neglect and cruelty with the Dursleys. (P. 18, p.22) Harry does not stop
being humble when he gains fame, wealth, and popularity at Hogwarts. (P.79) His
reaction to the discovery that everyone seems to know his name on the train to
Hogwarts does not make him primp and pose, but rather only makes him hope that
he can manage to live up to his reputation. (P.84) It shows us nothing more or less
than the deepest, more desperate desire of our

Each adolescent is unique, and as adolescents we all have our strengths and
weaknesses, but during this time we are preparing ourselves for our future. We are
getting an idea of what life will be like and the responsibility and maturity that is
needed. Throughout adolescence is the time where we can take matters into our own
hands and we are allowed to make mistakes. Making those mistakes is what can help
us improve or even help us learn something that can benefit us in the future.
Sometimes we even allow the social media to have an influence on our day to day
life, which can cause us to second guess ourselves in how we look and even how we
act. This is the timethat prepares us for our future, where we will have good times

8. Song Analysis Of Float On By Modest Mouse
Music has played a large role in my life for some time, now. My musical interests
vary, greatly as I try to appreciate each and every song equally. I believe this
because I know that each artist creates this work of art which takes a great deal of
time and effort. With that being said my ten songs, for the most part, a bit different
from one another, but they are each very special to me in their own way. I would
place these songs in the indie category. My older sisters introduced me to this genre
of music at a young age. I appreciate them for this because I would not listen or
know the songs I cherish now, without them exposing it to me. I chose these songs
because of that reason. Both of my sisters, Cristine and Gabriela, have been great...

The bad news in our lives at the time, of course, was our dad being sick. With that
being said, this song gave us hope that, that bad news would someday bring about
good news and that we should not worry. When Megan heard this song a different
lyric stood out to her. And we ll all float on OK . She picked this lyric out,
specifically, because it made her think of the time she had gotten in a wreck, pulling
out of her high school parking lot. She said that she had to stay positive and remain
optimistic because she knew that one day, everything would just float on . The
fifth song I would like to talk about is, Ballad of Theo and June by Softlightes. This
song was released in 2007. I was not able to find the exact release date, however.
The author and composer of this song is Ron Fountenberry. The location that I
attach to this song is Helsinki, Finland. The reason that I correlate this song with
that location is because this was the song I listened to when I was landing there,
Spring Break, of last year. This song will always remind me of Finland and there is
actually a lyric that I relate with this event, as
9. Resident Advisor Case Study
(1) When I think of the resident advisor position I consider it a position of great
responsibility. This reason is because as a RA one is responsible for the safety of not
just the people on their hall, but also the people in the entire building. One has to
efficiently do room inspections to make sure people don t possess things that could
cause fires, or anything else that might endanger the other people living within that
residents hall. They are there to inform residents on changes or upcoming events
happening within that residents hall and on campus. Other responsibilities I think
about being associated with the RA position is letting people in their room when they
are locked out, and helping residents get aquatinted with each other.... Show more

I know people who loved their RAs, and I know people who absolutely hated their
RAs. So as an RA one has to be prepared for the best and worst when it comes to
supervising adults with different attitudes. As a resident advisor one can also be
viewed as a mediator between residents to prevent or settle disputes. For instance,
if someone is being too loud during quiet hours the RA is there to address him or
her, and ensure the rules are being enforced. To prevent possible confrontation
amongst residents I think it is better for the RA to go over, and tell them to keep it
down for the sake of the rest of the people on hall. (2) While staying on the 3rd
floor of Hawkes, Connor and Lauren were my resident advisors. I always
appreciated how friendly, fun, and informative they were. They always kept us
updated by sending out e mails, hanging up flyers, and writing little notes on their
doors about things going on around campus, or other important information. When
I was locked out of my room or had any concerns one or the other was always
available. Drew helped me in my room a couple times also, and she was really cool

10. Analyzing The Poem Barbie Doll
This poem dramatizes the conflict between society s perspective on normal and
what is actually normal when it comes to appearances. The name of the poem
Barbie Doll is an allusion to barbies. The speaker of this piece began by stating the
girlchild was born as usual meaning the child that was born was the image of
normal. The speaker states that a girlchild was born and was a normal little girlthat
played with barbies by saying as usual (line 1). A classmate of the child informed
her that she had a great big nose and fat legs (6). The child was intelligent and
talented. She possessed strong arms and back (8). She had a normal lifestyle for a
while after the classmate s comment, but that did not last. She cut off her nose and
her legs and offered them up (17, 18). The child passed away and had an open casket
with a putty nose on display and everyone thought that she looked pretty. To every
womana happy ending (25). The speaker is saying that society s point of view is

/ Doesn t she look pretty? Everyone said (20 23). Undertakers are people who
prepare dead bodies. With the pink and white nightie, putty nose, and the makeup,
she is completely rid of her impurities that the classmate pointed out.
Consummation at last (24) the rhetoric of this line is by reason of consummation
meaning when something is complete or finalized and as a result of the girl
cutting off her nose and her legs, she dies and is finally perfect for them now. It is
also ironic because dying should not be happy and should not make them feel
content with her appearance after she cut herself to pieces. The speaker ends the
poem by saying to every woman a happy ending (25). The last line of the poem
means that every woman feels that way, women are supposed to be perfect, when
they are not. The speaker is saying this is a happy ending for all

12. The Life and Death of Great American Cities by Jane Jacob
In Jane Jacobs s acclaimed The Life and Death of Great American Cities, she
intricately articulates urban blight and the ills of metropolitan society by addressing
several binaries throughout the course of the text. One of the more culturally
significant binaries that Jacobs relies on in her narrative is the effectively paradoxical
relationship between diversity and homogeneity in urban environments at the time. In
particular, beginning in Chapter 12 throughout Chapter 13, Jacobs is concerned
greatly with debunking widely held misconceptions about urban diversity. Jacobs
views diversity as the number of ways in which limited areas of space are allocated,
as opposed to having an inherent racial or cultural connotation. Jacobs emphasizes...

Jacobs instead champions a combination of aesthetic and practical diversity in the city
. Aesthetic differences can come from buildings constructed during different eras.
Jacobs adds that having an organic mix of commercial buildings and apartments adds
to a city s diversity and beauty. To conclude her argument, Jacobs states that standard
commercial establishments are mixed in with landmarks in functional cities and cites
New York as an example. As a native New Yorker, many restaurants, bars and other
commercial buildings are located in propinquity to landmarks such as Carnegie Hall
and the Empire State Building. Jacobs believes that this combination advocates as the
standard for urban planning. Another myth that Jacobs discusses is that diversity is
responsible for traffic congestion. Jacobs view is in discord with Robert Moses
original mission to create cities that would be conducive to automobile
transportation. Moses viewed his plans to build bridges and highways through the
city as a way to make cities more efficient. He wanted to rid the small blocks and
densely populated regions that created congestion with too many intersections.
Jacobs states: The spaces required for roads and for parking spread everything out
still farther, and lead to still greater uses of vehicles. This is tolerable where the
population is thinly
13. Okies During The Great Depression
The Okies were people that had lost everything in the great depression usually they
were farmers, business owners and people the did manual labor. They usually
hopped from camp to camp looking for work on farms and anywhere they were
hiring. They would have to move a lot because of the police and normal civilians
didn t like the Okies being in there town. The civilians and the police would do
whatever they could to arrest the Okies or get them to leave like setting the camps
on fire starting riots The African Americans during the great depression and all
throughout the pas have been thrown under the bus there whole lives some may have
been Okies and some may have had stable jobs that didn t crumble in the great
depression.
14. Coexistence In Canada
Even though it seems that Richard got a lot of the abuse, it s always been like this
for French Canadians in Quebec. French Canadians have never been able to
coexist with English Canadians and have always felt like second class citizens to
English Canadians. The reason why they have never been able to coexist with them
is due to the fact that they have never been able to make a decision together and
have almost always been on opposite sides of each decision. For example, when
prohibition was created in the 1920s, Quebechad more than 70% people vote no.
However, almost every other province ha people vote more than 50% people vote
yes. Prohibition then was created as a law and the people of Quebec felt their voice
unheard as they observed this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This, here, is where the seeds of division were sown between the French and English
Canadians. French Canadians felt no loyalty to either Britain or France but mainly
felt loyal to Canada only. They didn t want to serve for either country but English
Canadians felt fiercely loyal to Britain and so French Canadians felt unheard
again. Both of these decisions have the same theme that French and English
Canadians are divided in every decision. This shows the lack of coexistence
between these two sets of people. And so these riots can be justified from this lack
of coexistence as their was clearly some tension between these two sets of people
and so this can be seen from a long time coming. We can also see the opinions of
French Canadians ignored and being shut down by English Canadians. This shows
why French Canadians would feel second class and have their voice gone. It s not
only being divided in every decision that would make French Canadians left out but
it s also the lack of equality and the feeling of second class citizenship of the French
Canadians when compared with the English canadian. Back then, French Canadians
did not hold as much power as English Canadians in their own

Tyler Yancey American History, Period 1 Fields of Fire 2013 February 22 Review
of Fields of Fire Fields of Fire by James Webb is a historical novel first published in
1978 that takes place in the year 1969 during the Vietnam War. Although there are
many characters that are significant to the story, the novel focuses mainly on three
marines who find themselves in a platoon with each other; Robert E. Lee Hodges,
Snake, and Will Senator Goodrich. Webb gives the reader a great, detailed
background of each of these characters through a combination of both direct and
indirect characterization. As the novel progresses, major events that occur include
battle and violence, loss and coping, and learning. The themes that naturally... Show

Webb s educational background helps to show, with the help of his military profile,
that he is more than qualified to proficiently write on the subjects discussed in his
novel, Fields of Fire. James Webb focuses on three main characters in his novel:
Robert E. Lee Hodges, Snake, and Will Senator Goodrich. The inspiration for these
three characters seems to be not the life of any particular historical figure, but rather
the common backgrounds of real soldiers who served in Vietnam in general.
Characters in the novel are most often developed only after their initial introduction
into the story. After introducing a character to the reader, Webb will often follow this
introduction with the story of the characters life before the military and how or why
he decided to enlist. Those characteristics not mentioned at his introduction or those
that change are typically revealed during or after intense, traumatic events, such as
near death experiences or witnessing the death of a friend. Although the novel
centers on only three characters, these three characters represent highly prominent
reasons that American s had for enlisting; to continue a family legacy and protect
his family s honor, to escape the steep decline and unhappiness of his life, and by
accident or unwillingly being drafted. In this novel, the characters are what really
embody and portray the main themes. Robert E. Lee Hodges claims that he is
fighting to carry on his family s

. The Republicans believe that abortion are rooted firmly in the belief that an unborn
child, similar to any person in this nation, has an individual right to life that ought not
be encroached upon by others .The party adamantly believes that the rights ensured to
all Americans in the Fourteenth Amendment apply to unborn kids also. On the other
hand, the Democrats believe firmly in a woman s right to decide whether or not to
abort a pregnancy. The Democratic views on abortionstrongly support Roe vs. Wade,
and include a woman being given the right to abort a pregnancy regardless of
whether or not she is able to pay for it. They believe that fetus removal is an
individual choice between a lady, her family, her specialist, and her ministry;

There three memory process involves encoding which is when information is
converted for storage which allows the information to be kept in memory for later
use and also we have retrieval when information is recovered from memory into

November 28, 1976, Randal Dale was an American former prison inmate, who was
wrongfully convicted of the death of a Texas police officer Robert W. Wood. He
was then sentenced to death. His conviction was overturned in 1989.The crime

Officer Teresa was going to through a process of interference because during the

another problem with encoding. Memory decay did influence the reliability of
eyewitness news, some of the eyewitness memory did fade away when the police
officer asked their question and taken for an interview, so the problem that occur

they lack fail to use the light cues to retrieve what is stored in their memory and as
well the memory strength wears away. Memory interference did occur; Matthew
Randal was one of the eyewitness he testified that he had driven by the scene before
the murder and he only saw Adam in the car this process of memory interference is
called retroactive interference the reason why he went through that process is
because he saw Adam in the car which was acquired information, but when he was
taking for an interview it was hard for him to recall the previously information
because of the reconstructive distortions which happen when a person recalls past
experiences they can reconstruct them, filling in missing details with new
information causing them to misremember. Robert and Emily Miller, there were

the car which was Adam. There were taken for interviewing by the federal state of
Texas, Emily was going through a process of repression, unconsciously preventing the
memory of the event entering the conscious awareness because the event was too
distressing and unpleasant to remember. State and context dependent cues did have a

18. Analysis Of The Kern s Article Gendered Urbanization
In relation to this, Kern s article Gendered Urbanization illustrates how the factors
attracting affluent women to the new condominiums in Parkdale are often the same
instruments of oppression against the residents; according to her research, an
attractive aspect of the new condominiums are security measures put into place to
keep out the impoverished, and therefore dangerous, communities within Parkdale,
such as a 24 hour concierge, double locks on all apartment doors, and a video
monitor at the front desk. Even if street[s] are very quiet (Kern 372, III) the design of
the buildings project and imply a criminal, unpredictable nature onto the original
residents of Parkdale, and enshrines these expectations into the built environment .
One resident interviewed stated my [apartment] has twenty four hour security, and
they don t let anybody in without talking to security. Residents are not allowed to let
anybody in, even if you open the doors (Kern 372, IV). Therefore, the communitylost
to the shift in housing rates is not replaced with incoming residents, but rather the two
communities are segregated by classist infrastructure and stereotypes that push the
lower income people to the outskirts of Parkdale. This leads to a huge sense of
isolation and unease in the community of original Parkdale residents because, not
only are they threatened and disadvantaged financially, the implantation on these
condominiums are actively keeping them out.

shapes in this group, which is quadrant and elongate shape. The specimens are vastly
elongated rectangular in shape with a sub circular cross section, slightly rectangular
in profile with tapering rounded butt, rounded and smooth faceted sides and
symmetrical sharply faceted blades Also they have fully polished and flat surfaces

The chisels have been probably used for woodworking tasks. They were hafted for

specimens are mostly complete and their length varies between 3 7 cm. with the

college students in academics? Things such as being engaged in an orchestra, or a
club on campus are common; my hobby has been athletics. I have excelled in
athletics all my life and decided to take it to the college level. I can t describe how
much that experience has had an impact on my ability to manage time, my health,
and my success as a student.
If you had something that you loved, something that made you successful, would you
want to share it? I did. I know some awesome athletes in my high school that just
needed a little push. They needed a little more time with a coach, a little more
encouragement. I knew I was someone that could do that.
Over the summer, I helped out three young women from my high school with javelin
technique and workout habits they should get into. I met with each of them once or
twice a week for practice. Addie was a very stubborn girl. She wanted to be the best

most. She would come to practice and then complain the whole time we ran or did
plyometric drills. I thought she was going to quit after the first day, but she didn t.
She was too stubborn to. I m so glad she did because I got to continue to work with
her on her fluidity in her approach and her form. Addie is now headed to Brigham

the second Mae. Through the descriptions of how Mae deceives herself into believing
in the false online identity, Eggers warn the dangers of creating an identity using

It all starts from the beginning of Mae s first day in the Circle, when she describes a
utopia (the Circle) as if she had gone to a new world. It may be true that the Circle
is nicely designed and constructed, Mae s over exaggerating responses reflect that
she is, in fact, repressing herself to adapt to this new environment. This is because

22. The Sacred in Things Fall Apart and No Longer at Ease
Chinua Achebe s works reveal the sustaining relevance of the sacred to his audience
and invite his readers to consider the metamorphosis of sacred tropes from
traditional to colonial times. The mask in Achebe s novels Things Fall Apart and No
Longer At Ease is one of a number of tropes which represent the shifting of the locus
of the sacred from community to individual. This trope, and others like it, reflects
upon the way in which European influence has directedthe social significance of
spirituality through the process of colonization. Through the examination of these
tropes, one should develop a critical awareness of the relationship between the sacred
and the profane in the Modern context of No Longer At Ease,... Show more content on

The sacred is saturated with being. Sacred power means reality and at the same time
enduringness and efficacity. The polarity sacred profane is often expressed as an
opposition between real and unreal or pseudoreal...thus it is easy to understand that
religious man deeply desires to be, to participate in reality, to be saturated with
power (12 13).
Considering Eliade s assertion that the sacred is a vehicle for power in pre modern
societies, much irony is present in the fact that Modern European man, while
distancing himself from the primitive definitions of a traditional, all encompassing
spirituality, is deeply waged in the battle for the power that can be extracted from
the sole possession and revised definition of the sacred. In the novel No Longer At
Ease, one begins to see the serious implications of displaced ownership and
ambiguous definition of sacred objects and rites.
Masking as Achebe portrayed in Things Fall Apart supported traditional perceptions
of the relationship between society and the sacred; therefore, the implementation of
masking as obscured by colonialism presented a unique opportunity for Europeans to
reconfigure established perceptions of reality. In traditional Igbo society, it was the
role of the artist to affirm a sense of the sacred within the community. Specifically,
23. The Money By Junot Diaz Summary
Reading The Money by Junot Diaz gave me the impression that Diaz was raised in
a strict but disciplined household. There are many parallels between my life and
Junot Diaz s life. We both came from low income families struggling for that pesky
paycheck. When we did receive that paycheck, most of it ended up going back to our
homelands to support the familywe had left behind and or pay off the houses we
owned or rented there. We both lived in the rough parts of our neighborhoods where
the recently moved in immigrants were victim to robberies and cons. Coincidentally,
I experienced a very similar situation that Junot Diaz described in his story.
In The Money, Diaz and his family were struggling to attain money. His mother was

24. The Decline Of The Protestant Reformation
Introduction:
The Protestant Reformation was a religious act in the 1500 s that split the Christian
Church in Western Europe and led to the establishment of many new churches. It
effected spiritual thought, philosophy, political work, and the economies of several
countries all around the world. The effects of the Reformation can still be felt in
modern times. Stimulated by a devout and renowned German Monk, Martin Luther,
this reformation sent shockwaves throughout Europe and played a significant role in
shaping the Catholic Church. But what was the Protestant Reformation, what caused it
and what were its impacts?
Body:
The Catholic Church in The Early 16th Century: In the 1500 s, the Church had
been viewed for a long time as an organization taken over by inner power struggles.
Popes and Cardinals lived more like royals than spiritual leaders. Popes had both
political and spiritual power. They ordered armies, made political agreements, and,
even led war. Obviously, if the Pope was spending a considerable amount of time on
these worldly matters, there wasn t much time left to care for the faithful
(Grabowski, 2013). Also, the sale of indulgences was a procedure in which, the
Church received a donation or money in return for a paper (an indulgence), that
guaranteed that your spirit would enter heaven more swiftly by reducing your time in
purgatory. Worldly matters were clearly

My philosophical views on life are quite transparent in comparison to the elaboration
in which Emerson and Thoreau express, though, I find Emerson s view on nature and
its importance in our society homologous. We must establish an interconnection with
our earth. Emerson expresses the spiritual and acquired health gained in nature in
which I believe in passionately In good health, the air is a cordial of incredible
virtue. When appraised by an audience, one can retrieve several different abstract
meanings, however, whilst I personally evaluated the statement, I found an
exploration of environmentalism, inspiring conservation and involvement expressed
by Emerson. In addition, I believe the quote to possess a more mortal feel, addressing

envelope and distribute the duty cards to employees that are present. Ultimately,
the packet is designed to lighten the load for the employees following a robbery.
These cards provide places for specific information to be completed relating to your

The book, All Quiet on the Western Front, was narrated by a 19 year old German
soldier who fights at the French front with his comrades. The soldier s name was
Paul and throughout the story, Paul mentions the horrible and terrible things he and
his friends had to live throughout the war on the front. Most of his friends are the
same age as him and are from the same school Paul went to and they all voluntarily
joined the army after being influenced by their teacher, Kantorek, by listening to his
speeches. They later realize that the speeches Kantorek said were meaningless and
did not believe that being in the war or that the war itself at all was honorable or
glorious, it was just a brutal battlefield that brought physical and constant terror....

28. Author History
Author History Support of Religious and Political Freedoms in Sonnet XV John
Milton, born December 9, 1608, is considered one of England s greatest poets. But
Milton was not only a poet, he was also a political figure. Milton supported the
British Civil War and the Puritan government of Oliver Cromwell. Knowing this
background, it is no surprise that many of Milton s writings contain his strong
religious and political beliefs. Sonnet XV, a plea to Lord Fairfax to help the new
Commonwealth government be successful, displays Milton s concern with holy and
virtuous ideals, his disdain for the rule of the English monarchy, and his pro Puritan
republican political beliefs. Milton s holy and virtuous values were influenced by his

In Sonnet XV Milton also shows his dislike for the king. He refers to the king as a
serpent (line 8) and the king s followers as hydra heads (line 7) or monsters. In the
sonnet, he also refers to the king s government as full of Avarice and Rapine (line
14), greed, looting, plunder, and corruption. He further showed his disdain for the
monarchy, when he wrote Eikonoklastes ( image breaker ), which was the Puritan
government s official response supporting the former King s execution (Danielson
15). Milton did not just hate the monarchy, he supported a republican government.
Milton supported the Puritan ideals of religious freedom and establishment of a
more democratic system of government where all adult males had the right to vote
(Norbrook 109). In 1649, Milton was asked to work to support the new Puritan
government (Danielson 14). He worked for 11 years as a secretary in the
Commonwealth government. He wrote articles and pamphlets that defended the new
government and attacked its adversaries (Danielson 15). Sonnet XV shows these
ideas as Milton pleads with Lord Fairfax to help rid the Avarice and Rapine (Line
14) of the Royalist government. Additionally, Milton saw Public Fraud (line 13) as
shameful and as such, the Public Faith (line 12), which Milton equated with National
Honor (Honigmann 142), had to be removed from that fraud for the new government
to succeed. The examples above show

31. Teen Specific Laws Essay
Whether or not there should be teen specific laws is a controversial topic. Some
people may argue that there should be teen specific laws, specifically adults, but
those adults don t listen to reason. Former animator, entrepreneur, TV producer,
and film producer, Walt Disney says, Too many people grow up. They forget. They
don t remember what it s like to be 12 years old. They patronize, they treat children
as inferiors. Children and teens are human beings just like everyone else is;
therefore, teens learn to do things as all human beings do. Teens can only learn to
make good decisions by making them, not by following directions. It is obvious that
teen specific laws are not necessary.
Teen specific laws are unnecessary, they cause an abundance of new and unnecessary
problems. An example of unnecessary laws would be curfew laws. Curfew laws don t
do anything but create more complications. According to the article, Youth Curfews
Popular with American Cities but Effectiveness and Legality Are Questioned, by
USA editor, Tony Favro, Juvenile arrests increase significantly in most cities with
curfews. Do people really want to fix one itsy bitsy problem even if it means a
bunch more problems will appear? Although these laws were originally created to
benefit the society as a whole, one may never know how a teen would respond to the
laws. Moreover, these unnecessary laws may cause teens to act out. According to Dr.

32. Setting In The Raven Boys By Maggie Stiefvater
This analysis explains why The Raven Boys which was written by Maggie Stiefvater
uses the settings as characters and develops the plot with a setting that progresses
alongside it. There are three main sceneries that are regularly heard throughout the
series that helps communicate the importance of each location. First, there s the big,
geographical, and historic settingwhich happens to be the town: Henrietta, Virginia.
Home to a majority of the characters and the most alluring magic that seems to only
attract trouble. Next, there is the mysterious, questionable, and dangerous forest:
Cabeswater, where the teenagers of this novel spend a great deal of their time. Lastly,
there is Monmouth Manufacturing, an old brick warehouse, owned and... Show more

Gansey, the owner, choose to live there because to avoid living in dorms along
with Ronan, who also was not allowed to return back to his childhood home. Noah
was dead, Adam lived in a church attic and Blue with her mother. Monmouth s
significance is based on the security it offered to the teens and the sense of being
able to be vulnerable with somebody of personal selection. The old warehouse
presented them with a place to retreat to, gather information then prepare to set out
on another adventure to find the dead king. It was the raven boy s kingdom and
Gansey was the king of it. The high ceiling soared above them, exposed iron beams
holding up the roof... And everywhere, everywhere, there were books. (Stiefvater 41)
Each and every literary element is necessary to have a novel worth of a nod. The
Raven Boy had many different aspects to it that could have been of central focus but
the setting needed more credit than what is easily noticeable. Cabeswater, Henrietta,
and Monmouth were the settings that had diverse moods. The three also had
remarkably different atmospheres that exclusively influenced each character s
thought processes and their reasoning for their behaviors. Any well written novel
should be able to be analyzed on any aspect of its work and The Raven Boys has not
disappointed its supporters
33. Analysis Of Hally s My Dad
After settling in, Sam tells Hally his mother is at the hospital with his father. Hally is
concerned with the news, as there is no visiting on Thursdays. When told his dad was
alright and may even be coming home, Hally freezes. Although he is rattled, the
audience does not see Hally s true thoughts about his dad until his mothercalls him
the first time. As Hally receives the news of his father s homecoming, he tells his
mom, ...whatever you do, don t discuss it with him....Because I m frightened you ll
give in to him... (36). Hally s persistence for keeping his dad from coming home
gives the reader the idea that Hally is afraid of his father. After hanging up the
phone, he is more agitated and irritable then before. We see a side of Hally that will
resurface later in the show, and that is his short temper.
As the show continues, Sam and Willie help Hally with his descriptive writing
assignment by describing and reenacting the dance competition that is to take place

another or stumbled during the dance. Sam retorts by saying, Nobody trips or
stumbles or bumps into anybody else. That s what that moment is all about. To be
one of those finalists on that dance floor is like ... like being in a dream about a
world in which accidents don t happen (50). Hally is stunned by the beauty of this
metaphor and so is the reader. But this statement means more than just the beauty it
presents. It represents

In Hayao Miyazaki s breathtaking film, Spirited Away we are introduced to 10
year old Chihiro and her parents who stumble upon a seemingly abandoned
amusement park. After her mother and father turn into giant pigs, Chihiro meets the
mysterious Haku, who explains the park is a resort for the supernatural beings who
need a break from the earthly realm, and that she must work there to free herself
and her parents. Our young protagonist is shown to be a childish, easily scared, and
whiny girl. But after her experiences at the bathhouse and the Spirit World, she will
mature into a capable adult. Chihiro s growth into a capable individual is a core
factor to the movement of Spirited Aways plot.
Spirited Away begins with a quick paced car ride in which we meet the young
protagonist, Chihiro. A melancholy child whom ironically holds a bouquet of bright
flowers to her chest, which we learn was a farewell gift from her friend on Chihiro s
moving day. Chihiro and her parents stumble upon a ominous tunnel as they search
for their new home. The tunnel lures Chihiro s parents inside, causing the young
child to quickly rush and cling to her mother in fear of being alone, like any child
would. Upon entering the Spirit World, they stumble upon a festive amusement park
that has seemingly just been abandoned. During this scene Chihiro s parents morph
into gluttonous pigs, consumed by their own greed and hunger upon eating offerings
that were meant for the spirits. Young Chihiro now left

Romantic escapism is an extremely important element of John Keats poetry, serving
as a foundation for many of his poems. In the ode to a Nightingale he is pouring out
his thoughts and is longing for escape from the world full of strife, sadness and grief.
The recurrence of this theme in his poems is actually not only a part of
romanticism, but also greatly a result of his personal unfortunate experiences in life.
This painful experience in life is what makes him somewhat pessimistic and compels
him to resort to the option of escapism through his poetry ( KEATS PROJECTION
OF ROMANTIC ESCAPISM ).
The poem Ode to a nightingale begins with the narrator saying he feels a drowsy
numbness but the feeling is not from jealousy of the nightingale s happiness
because the narrator rejoices in the song. While listening to and appreciating the
sweetly sung song of the nightingale, Keats too, wishes to become like her so that
he can fly away from the cruel world that has given him nothing else but pain. That
I might drink, and leave the world unseen, and with thee fade away into the forest
dim. (Keats 1006) Through the use of the nightingale, a very real living creature in
nature, Keats has provided us with both a real bird and a symbol of the immortality
that is nature. Nature, in its never ending cycle of life and death, achieves its own
kind of immortality. This is something that men will never achieve. The bird is

events discouraged Feng Ru, but he just started over and never gave up. Feng
probably felt discouraged because every time that he had to make a sacrifice, he had
to start over because something was destroyed. For instance, he had to rebuild his
plane because it plunged into his workshop. In the end, Feng Ru had to make the

39. Analysis Of Orcagna And The Coronation Of The Virgin
The painting has some bright colors on the clothes of the people. The colors of the
clothes are mostly pink, blue or red. The background of the entire piece is gold as
well as the frame it is in. The frame is very detailed in the spirals and branching off
decorative pieces, it looks like the opening to a cathedral. The people are drawn
out very well, 22 people in the entire painting. The painting is a 2D painting as
well. The lines on the clothing make it look realistic as well as the facial
expressions of those in the paintings. The lighting is very bright making it look
almost regal. The entire background of the painting is entirely gold. There are also
gold highlights in the shape of circles circling everyone s heads in the painting.
The painting itself is not too big, not more than 1 2 feet in length and 3 feet in
height with the frame included. In the picture there are a lot of objects, there are
two musicians with a violin and a harp. Other objects include books, most likely
Bibles, a cross, a crown, a huge cathedral like stage that Mary and Jesus sit upon,

What is music? Music is something that we hear every day in our daily life and it
can affect to our feeling. We can hear music everywhere such as in the car, on the
radio, in the supermarket, and on the plane. In my opinion, music can stir various
emotions and can make us feel sad, relax or excited.
Firstly, some songs can make you cry. Especially when you listen to blues music,
you will feel really sad. If you listen carefully, the lyrics in blues music express the
sadness of life. Some songs remind you of the bad memories. For example, Stay
With Me , How Long , When You Are Gone , and When I Was Your Man . Some
movies use string instruments to develop the feeling of sadness. Especially in the
scene when the main character died.

Preserving and developing a national identity in China has been and continues to be
an ongoing commitment, most notably since the seventeenth century. A nation is an
imagined community consisting of a so called myth of common descent, where those
who contribute to society share a common experience. The concept of a national
identity is crucial in understanding the history of Chinaas it developed into a nation.
Factors that have been established to define identity can consist of the following: the
relation one has to a specific territory; the government system; religions; ideologies
and beliefs; and importantly, in China, the relationship between government and class
social structures. Moreover, the notion of ethnic identity surfaces... Show more

With the conquest of the Manchus over the Ming Empire during the transition from
the Ming Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty, the loss of ones native identity was on the
line. The preservation of national identity was critical for both the Han and the
Manchus. Manchus feared in losing their national identity in which they ensured to
preserve their shamanism: the notion of having a spiritual death and rebirth, thus
going into a supernatural world where they could then influence events (Schoppa,
36). With the Manchus fighting for the recognition and preservation of their national
identity, they would perform their shamanic rituals in the city, such as in the
Forbidden City, along with enforcing tactics that would prevent the Manchus and the
Chinese mainlanders to associate with one another closely. However, at a point, as
Schoppa elaborated, the Manchus conformed and [bought themselves] into Chinese
culture (Schoppa, 26). By doing so, the political and social contributers of the empire
felt as if their identity was on the line.
Moreover, during the reign of the Qian long Emperor, when China peaked with its
wealth and power, when it was in its prime of commercialization and urbanization,
was when it led to more social development, and an increase in population. This
urbanization and social development due to increasing population was a large
contributor to the dissolving national identity of China (Schoppa, 35). During this

racial segregation. The boycott started on December 5, 1955, until December 20,
1956, in Montgomery, Alabama. African Americans had to get up out of there seats
if they were asked by a white citizen and sit in the back of the bus or stand. The bus
boycott lasted 381 days. Rosa Parkswas known for playing a big role in the
Montgomery Bus Boycott segregation. Rosa Parks was asked to give up her seat
after a long day at work to a white man. The bus divided into 2 sections, there was a
white side and a black side. If the white side of the bus was full, than an African
Americanhad to get up out of there seat and stand up so the white citizen can sit.

was also a part of the Civil Rights Movement. King came from a comfortable
middle class family steeped in the tradition of the Southern black ministry: both his
father and maternal grandfather were Baptist preachers (Carson, Clayborne). Martin
Luther King was known for his powerful speech I Have A Dream . Dr.King fought
for equality. Martin was born January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia. Martin was a
baptist minister and social activist, he also led the civil rights movement. At the age
of 15 he entered Morehouse college in Atlanta. Dr.King met his wife Coretta Scott in

fresh face in town. The Montgomery Improvement Association chose Dr.King as their
43. The Israeli-Palestinian Conflict Essay
Introduction
The Israeli Palestinian conflict is one of the most controversial conflicts in modern
history. The expansion of Israel since 1947 is seen as the beginning of the conflict,
although its origins go back to the end of the 19th century, when Jewish immigration
to Palestine began to increase. Since the start of the conflict, several peace
negotiations have been carried out, resulting in variable degrees of success. This
essay will focus on how theorists of peace and conflict have analysed the conflict in
recent history. Especially, the peace process after the first Palestinian intifada and the
1993 Oslo agreements will be analysed. In addition, this essay will shed light on the
involvement of the United States in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The General Assembly of the UN adopted the partition plan, but the UN Security
Council never enforced the plan. After Britain left Palestine, fighting between Arabs
and Jews immediately broke out (ibid.; 82 83). In 1948, Zionist forces, due to their
military pre eminence, gained control over the territory which the UN designated to
the Jews in the failed partition plan. On 14 May 1948, they declared Israeli
independence and established the Israeli state (Fawcett, 2005; 221). The US
recognised Israel quickly as a state and soon after that the Soviet Union did the
same. The Arab League, formed out of six Arab states, did not recognise Israel as a
state, because they felt the land belonged to the Arabic state of Palestine, not to the
Jews. Subsequently, the six Arab forces (Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, Saudi
Arabia and Syria) attacked the Israeli military. The Lebanese, Syrian, Iraq and
Saudi Arabian forces did not produce many offensive operations, but they managed
to block the Israeli s march. The real fighting came from the Egyptian and Jordan
forces. In the beginning, the Arabs had an advantage of weapons and air power,
whilst Israel had problems with their strategy. However, after a few months Israel
was provided with war supplies from Czechoslavakia. This included both weapons for
using on the mainland and aircrafts. Due to these supplies,
44. Compare And Contrast Erasmus And Luther
Erasmus and Luther on The Reformation
Religion was understood as the upmost critical part of a person s life during the
European Middle Ages. Christians believed the only way to Heaven was through
good works. To gain penance for their sins, Christians would travel on pilgrimages to
complete a journey to a holy site. When popes began to abuse papal authority during
this time, Christians could pay indulgences to be forgiven of their committed sins.
Papal authority had been corrupted by practices which were not Biblical through
proposing that Christians could be saved by payment, and not by accepting God s
grace. Because of these actions, attention was drawn to the foundations of the
doctrine of the Church. The Church was in need of fixing. Two reformers, Desiderius
Erasmus and Martin Luther, spoke out to do this. Both Erasmus and Luther desired to
reform the church because they had similar viewpoints on the abusive power. The
way that the two decided to go about reformation was different. Erasmus was poor,
humanist, and reserved, whereas Luther was not poor, a theologian, and bold.
Although Erasmus and Luther shared a common goal for Christians to live by the
scripture, similarities and differences were present in their approach to church reform
due to their past experiences, education received, and amount of audacity.
To begin, the past experiences of Erasmus and Luther affected their approach to
reformation. Desiderius Erasmus was born in 1466 and died in 1536.

A...
The definition of deportation is the action of deporting a foreigner from a country
however, I define it as separating a family, ruining somebody s idea of the
American Dream, and at times getting rid of the bad apples. I understand coming
into this country illegally is against the law but this country was built on migration
and everybody deserve the chance to a better life. While some illegal immigrants
come to this country and break the law in various ways the majority come to work
and give their family a better life and also contribute to the society which is why I
believe it should be carefully chosen who gets deported and why. In chapter 11 of
Harvest of Empire A History of Latinos in America , Gonzalez talks about
deportation issues in the United States and the backlash faced by those immigrants
since the 1700s. He talks about the unlawful tactics ICE agents used in order to
deport illegal immigrants even going as far as searching a home without a proper
warrant or permission by the homeowner but, what really caught my eye were the
myths and realities he mentions in the chapter. Coming from a family of
immigrants who came into this country to provide a better life for their family
deportation is a sensitive topic to me. I feel everybody should get the chance at the
American Dream, to be able to provide for their families at the best way possible,
give their children a chance at getting a proper education for generations to come
however, not everybody that migrates

Conflict , that s something nobody wants; i mean nobody. There are many ways to
solve it. A review of the articles and infographics reveal the arguments on how
characters solved conflict , with a positive outlook or even without being positive .
Like Anne and Otto Frank from the non fiction autobiography Anne Frank: Diary of a
Young Girl , they both tried to maintain positive during their conflictof Hitler s
repressive laws and the anti Semitic society in which Anne Frank lived caused her
and her family to go into hiding in the first place and suffer fear, deprivation, and
near starvation. The best way to solve conflict is to keep a positive outlook. Let s
start with Anne Frank , during Anne s conflict she remained calm and appreciated
what she had. In Anne s close look of her diary paragraph 18 it states ,I don t think
I ll ever feel at home in this house, but that doesn t mean I hate it. This shows how
Anne is not greedy and she appreciates what she has and tries to keep a positive
outlook. Furthermore Anne is a good person and treasures what she s given, through
the hard time she and her family are going through . Anne and her family could ve
just ignored the anti Semitic society and would have not had to move out. ... Show

47. What Is The Cause Of Coronary Heart Disease
The country of Greece is beautiful, with towering mountains and sparkling seas. But
is it really the paradise it is portrayed to be? The answer is hard, because it is
known to be a wonderful place for getaways and honeymoons. There are even diets
that advertise the healthiness of the greek diet and how it ll make you live forever.
Contrasting, the statistics of the country tell another story, one of unhealthiness and
disease. What are the causes, what could be causing so many people to die from
Coronary Heart Disease? When Coronary HeartDiseases main causes are bad habits
such as unhealthy diets and smoking, and other bad life choices. Could it be that
Greece is in poverty? Could the actual majority of citizens be eating unhealthy? Or is

And the health care system isn t very good. If someone needed an operation
immediately they would have to wait at least a month. Government unemployment
only lasts a year and after that, the government doesn t do much to help them.
Many Greeks may be eating as best they can, but it s not good enough. They have
to wait to be seen by a doctor and wait even longer for an operation. They smoke
and drink and eat fast food and cheap things from the grocery store that can be
heated up. This is called Greek diet is what is eaten by tourist, and the rich of
Greece. Not the people living their life, majority of the population. Smoking is a
very common habit in Greece. And it is one of the leading causes of Coronary
heart disease. CHD is considered to be the disease that you can change. And it s all
based on life choices. If an entire country of people are all stressed and trying to get
money for rent, mortgage or even dinner, It is likely they will start to form
unhealthy habits such as drinking or smoking. These habits on top of being
stressed, and not eating fresh fruits and vegetables everyday leads to Coronary Heart
disease. They are eating cheap fast food, Mcdonald s is all over Greece, and so are
many other fast food places. On top of this the healthcare isn t the best, all these
factors are why this disease is the top killer. In other words you could just say the top
cause of death is stress and
48. Cognitive Bias Research Paper
Cognitive Bias
Information Bias
Information bias is a type of cognitive bias that describes the tendency to seek
information when it does not affect action. People can often make better
predictions or choices with less information: more information is not always better.
An example of information bias is believing that the more information that can be
acquired to make a decision, the better, even if that extra information is irrelevant
for the decision. I find myself always trying to collect the most information
possible and a majority of the time it is irrelevant to the final decision. One specific
example of me using information bias, is when I was trying to decide which cough
medication I should purchase. I read all the bottles and googled which product other
people had like, but when it came down to finally making the decision I bought the
cheapest one. All the research and reading were for nothing because ultimately, I didn
t use the knowledge to make the decision.

It is a type of cognitive bias and a systematic error of inductive reasoning. People
display this bias when they gather or remember information selectively, or when
they interpret it in a biased way. The effect is stronger for emotionally charged
issues and for deeply entrenched beliefs. I find myself currently using confirmation
bias when I find information on airlines. I believe that Delta is the best airline. I
disregard any negative information about them that I come across. Anytime I see an
article, experience a good flight, or other positive information I use it to confirm that
Delta is the best. I use my confirmation bias and only book flights with

Unsure of exactly what movie to watch, I looked for an interesting title on the list,
hoping that one may jump out at me and interest me. I did not want to write a
paper on something I had watched previously, as I did not want to have a biased
opinion and I wanted to make sure I paid attention to all the details for the paper. If
I had seen the movie before, I may have skipped over it or lost focus during the
film. The title Born on the Fourth of July seemed patriotic and I wondered what
exactly it would be about. I decided to research a synopsis of the film and realized it
was about a soldier and in turn I assumed the disorder displayed in the movie would
be Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Knowing this is an abnormal... Show

It shows the hardship of a Marine s first time deployed, and thoroughly shows
every aspect the struggle of the physical and mental rehabilitation. It showed how
he began drinking and partying in Mexico as a way to cope with his newly
developed unpleasant attitude and displeasing demeanor. When he returns to the US
as an advocate against the war, it shows the difficulty the protestors endured and
how difficult their mission was. When the film ends it shows how Kovic went full
circle from desiring to be in the Marines and being a part of the war, to a drunken
protestor dealing with his PTSD and how he turned everything around and became a
straight laced advocate against war for the Democratic Party, speaking at the
Democratic National Convention (Stone Kovic, 1989).
When one goes through a stressful and traumatic ordeal, some individuals develop an
anxiety disorder known as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD. Although there
are treatments available for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, its broad array of
symptoms makes it a difficult condition to treat. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a
mental health condition often caused by some form of traumatic event. PTSD takes a

50. Scientific Predictions Are Not Always Accurate And Helpful
Forecast, as the Oxford Advanced Learner s Dictionary defined, is a statement about
what will happen in the future, based on the information that is available now . A
scientific one is making forecast by a scientific method, which is defined by Merriam
Webster Collegiate Dictionary as:
principles and procedures for the systematic pursuit of knowledge involving the
recognition and formulation of a problem, the collection of data through observation
and experiment, and the formulation and testing of hypotheses
Nowadays scientific forecasts, like weather forecasts, have become common in
people s daily life. Some of them, because of their accurate prediction, have brought
great helpfulness and convenience. However, there is a ... Show more content on

The goal of establishing a complete system of modern science may be achieved one
day, but requires a large amount of money and people s endeavour.
In addition, there are limitations in existing theories, which are widely accepted
nowadays. Because of the development of human society, theories which we thought
were accurate will turn out to be wrong. For instance, Aristotle (B.C.384 B.C.322)
claimed that heavier things fall faster than lighter ones. This claim was thought to
be right as it fit the common knowledge of people living in those time periods. And
interestingly, people used this law to forecast free falling things without ever
doubting of it until Galileo Galilei (1564 1642) did his famous experiment to prove
that actually free falling things, however heavy they are, share the same pace.
Therefore, it is likely that theories which we accepted today will turn out to be wrong
in the future. And to the future generation, the forecasts made based on these theories
might not be accurate.
Secondly, inaccuracy also comes from the process of calculation involved in
forecasting. There is no doubt that a forecast should be made before the event
happens. Therefore, there is a time limit for the calculation process of a scientific
forecast. But most forecasts need a significant amount of complex calculation, which
may not be able to be totally calculated in
51. Similarities Between Animal Farm And Animal Farm
Two visions; Different Results
In George Orwell s novel Animal Farm he asserts that following blindly , will lead
to government abuse and corruption. Orwell s assertion brings life to the philosophy
that a utopian atmosphere can never exist. Orwell s purpose is to deliver the idea of
communism not being successful and to make the audience reading not want to get
into communism. George Orwell informs the young audience of the danger with
communism. Orwell was a very cynical individual when it came to writing Animal
Farm . There were many similarities and differences between Martin Luther King Jr.
and the character, Old Major in Animal Farm. One similar political equality
between the two figures is they both had a vision or dream of inspiring the masses
of people to dream of a better future. between two groups of people. Despite having
so many similarities between the two there are also several differences as well.
Such as, the animals had different rights to fight for, for example, the animals were
being overworked by Mr. Jones and they were not receiving enough food. On the
other side, the blacks, during the Martin Luther King Jr. time period, were not able to
go in the same bathroom as whites. The Blacks had restrictions to their rights in the
idea of not being able to pursue certain circumstances as the whites did.
The historical figure Martin Luther King Jr. had many similarities and differences
with the character in Animal Farm, Old Major. Both individuals had visions of
rebellion but Martin Luther had the mentality of peaceful rebellion, while olf
major wanted violence. The significant events between Martin Luther King Jr. and
Old Major was the Beasts of England speech and the I have a Dream speech. Old
Major used Beasts of England to show the animals his vision or dream for the
farm. Also, Martin Luther King Jr. used I have a Dream to bring light to the idea
of black rights. Old Major and Martin Luther King Jr. both had both a goal in their
mind for what they want there atmosphere to be. In Animal Farm, the speech Beasts
of England was used and it said Beasts of England, Beasts of England, Beasts of
every land and clime, hearken to my joyful tidings (orwell 12) The quotes from the
