Racial Discrimination Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic of racial discrimination is no simple task. It requires a deep
understanding of the historical, social, and psychological dimensions of the issue. The
complexity arises from the sensitivity of the subject, as it involves addressing deep-seated
prejudices, systemic inequalities, and the impact on individuals and communities.
Researching for such an essay involves delving into a plethora of sources, including academic
journals, historical records, sociological studies, and personal narratives. Understanding the
nuances of racial discrimination requires one to navigate through a vast array of perspectives,
each offering a unique insight into the multifaceted nature of the problem.
Moreover, writing on racial discrimination demands a careful and empathetic approach. It's not
just about presenting facts and statistics; it's about conveying the human experience, the pain of
discrimination, and the resilience of those who face it. Striking the right balance between
conveying the severity of the issue and promoting awareness without further perpetuating
stereotypes is a delicate art.
Addressing the root causes and proposing viable solutions to combat racial discrimination adds
another layer of difficulty. It requires critical thinking, creativity, and a comprehensive
understanding of the socio-political landscape. Attempting to encapsulate such a broad and
deeply ingrained issue within the confines of an essay demands precision and clarity of thought.
In conclusion, writing an essay on racial discrimination is challenging due to the need for
extensive research, a nuanced understanding of the topic, and the delicate nature of addressing
such a sensitive subject. It's a task that requires not only academic prowess but also empathy and
a commitment to fostering positive change.

(SVT): SVTs are not more common in athletes than in the general population of a
similar age distribution, with the possible exception of atrial fibrillation (AF).
Treatment of these SVTs with catheter ablation is likely to achieve a permanent cure
and, in general, is preferable to lifelong therapy with pharmacological agents. Atrial
Fibrillation: Athletes with AF should undergo a work up that includes thyroid

is indicated, it is reasonable to consider the bleeding risk in the context of the
specific sport before clearance. Catheter ablation for AF could obviate the need for
rate control or antiarrhythmic drugs and should be considered. Syncope: Athletes
with exercise induced syncope should be restricted from all competitive athletics until
evaluated by a qualified medical professional. Athletes with syncope should be

diagnostic tests when there is suspicion of structural heart disease or primary

Gangs and Violence in the United States Essay
In todays United States we have a huge problem affecting society, gangs and the
violence that follows them wherever they go. These days gangs aren t just
compiled of grown adults, they often lure in young teens to do dirty work and to
add numbers to their turf. Despite laws aimed straight at these gangs they still defy
the law and wreak havoc upon the territory that they claim. The members in the
gang have a gang first mentality and will do everything possible to provide for and
protect their fellow members. They will very rarely snitch on their own to help put a
stop to some of the meaningless crimes committed by these savages. Gangs are
centered on a certain territory or turf that is claimed by that gang. When rival gangs

When young teens get involved with gangs they pretty much throw their lives
away because they leave school and frequently get arrested taking away any hope
of getting a real job and honest living. Being arrested is treated like a game to
many people that are etched into the gang life. Many of the gangs that terrorize
cities all over the United States are also established inside of prison. A lot of the
time these members are the hardest of the hardest. The members will trade people
for tangible items such as drugs, food, money, cigarettes, and many more things.
Gangs are able to get a lot of tasks done in prison even though there is police or
guards watching the moves the men and women are taking. People believe that
arresting these members is putting a stop to the gangs and teaching them a lesson
but in all actuality these men and women are just being taken off the streets to do
the exact something while incarcerated. Even though they are carrying out the same
actions in prison it is much better than outside because there isn t other people and
children at risk. In society there is no possible way to turn every gang member into
a changed person. But there is a way to lead these young teens away from that type
of lifestyle. It s through many projects and programs that are completely centered on
these teens to help get them off the streets and into school to get a good education.
On television they have a show where at
Identity Fraud And Identity Theft
Computer crimes can be defined as the unauthorized use of a computer for personal
gain, as in the illegal transfer of funds or to alter the data or property of others
(Dictionary.com.) Some examples of computer crimes are identity theft, transaction
fraud, hacking, and piracy (Opposing News.) One aspect of a computercrime that I
will cover in this exam is identity theft. The Department of Justice defines identity
theft and identity fraudas terms used to refer to all types of crime in which someone
wrongfully obtains and uses another person s personal data in some way that
involves fraud or deception, typically for economic gain (Department of Justice.)
Information that can be used to aid in the theft of your identity includes personally
identifiable information (PII.) PII can be best described as data that could potentially
be used to identify a specific person; which includes information such as your date of
birth, social security number, address and mother s maiden name (Rouse 2014.) In
the wrong hands, this information enables someone to steal your identity and leave
you financially responsible for the actions taken by the thief.... Show more content on

I do not believe that these problems are limited to the United States, I think that this
is a global issue with a far reaching impact that we must work locally in order to
change the global perception that computer crimes are a victimless crime because
you do not always get to face your attacker. I especially believe that identity theft will
continue to be a problem that will only grow in direct proportion to the number of

Ethical Issues Of Legalizing Marijuana
The legalization of cannabis, much better known as marijuana, is one of the most
controversially discussed issues in our country today. Marijuana has many specific
medical benefits and is a better alternative to other medications already permitted for
medical use. In 2012, two states legalized marijuana for recreational use. An
additional 18 states, plus the District of Columbia, had already legalized medical
marijuana. Even though marijuana is still illegal at the Federal level, President
Barack Obama said very clearly that his administration will not seek to enforce the
law in states that have deemed cannabislegal. Currently, marijuana is classified as a
Schedule I substance by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). A Schedule I

Producers and sellers are unlicensed and completely unregulated. Unlike licensed
businesses that sell liquor or tobacco, marijuana sellers operate virtually anywhere
and have no incentive not to sell to children or teens. Prohibition guarantees that
marijuana will not be inspected for purity or labeled for potency, and ensures that the
only people selling marijuana will be criminals. Our current laws do not control
marijuana, but they do ensure that 100% of the profits from marijuana sales remain
in the hands of criminals and gangs. Also, those people who are concerned with the
potency of marijuana should support regulation. Producers of wine, beer,
Persuasive Speech On Killing By Poisons
Carson initiates a major environmental call to action to address the ongoing
problem of farmers harming birds. She persuades her audience of Americans in the
1960 s to stand along side her to ban the use of deadly poisons that harm living
creatures. Carson does so through her use of negative diction, imagery and an ethical
appeal. Carson wastes no time in characterizing farmers as murderers who target
birds. When drawing attention to the fact that the habit of killing grows and farmers
have adapted to killing by poison, she exposes the harsh practices of farmers. Carson
also forces her readers to understand that these pesticides are really weapons, using
phrasing such as chains of poisoning and target of poisons. Carson also adds that
these poisons are deadly and trigger a wave of death, an example being in 1959
when farmers caused the death of some 65,000 red winged blackbirds and
starlings. She is disgusted by these recurrences and sends a strong message to her
audience that this must be stopped. Carson deliberately adds that these farmers act
as if they are on a mission of death just waging a needless war on blackbirds. How
outlandish, Carson reveals, is it for these grown men to act as if this is a balanced
battle. Their actions are especially horrible because they took to killing with poison
when the problem could have been solved easily with some agricultural changes.
Carson characterizes farmers as murders to reveal that they are horrible for
Juvenile Delinquency Essay
Juvenile delinquents, or youth that have been convicted of a crime, seem to be the
norm these days. Citizens, families, and poliy makers want new programs and
policies within the juvenile justice system. Researchers have found that the family
structure can be a precursor to delinquent behavior, and families do not have the
control or blance that they once did. As such, mew measures need to be implemented
to help these families in crisis. Rehabilitation of the familyunit is the answer, say
many, not punishment. In response to this, new ideas have formed to rehabilitate the
family unit, but first, the family structures that are precursors to delinquent behavior
must be identified. Family Life, Delinquency, and Crime: A Policymaker s... Show

The book focuses on single parent homes, parental involvement, family tension and
family economics as key factors of juvenile delinquency. Although, Mr. Trojanowicz
states family economics plays a key role in determining juvenile delinquency. A
family s inability to provide for the material needs of a child can create insecurity in a
child, thus, the child may seek material needs and suport from outside the family
(77). In conclusion he finds that many delinquents do not come from low income
families, and the economic condition of the family is probably one of the least
meaningful contributing factors. The research clearly shows and supports the theory
that the family structure is directly related to juvenile delinquency. What is society
doing to help these families in trouble? Competency Training, the Office of Juvenile
Justice and Dleinquency Prevention (OJJDP), examines one of the family programs
that have been established. The program they examined was, Iowa s Strenghtening
Families Program. (ISFP) The SFP is a 7 week course designed to bring parents
together with their 10 to 14 year old children, with the goal of reducing substance
abuse and other problem behavior in youth. The curriculum uses parallel content to

communication for both parents and the youth. For example, while the parents are
learning how to use consequences when youth break rules, youth
Iran Contra Affair Essays
The Iran Contra scandal had a big effect on the United States but it had a huge effect
on Nicaragua. Through out 1985 86, the Reagan administration was selling weapons
to Iran illegally in order to encourage Iran to free hostages in the Middle East.
Meanwhile, the Reagan administration wanted to support the Contrasin Nicaragua, a
rebel group fighting to overthrow the Sandinista government. The administration
decided to use the money made from selling arms to Iran, and had it sent to the
Contras without passing through the United States. (Walsh, p2.) In this paper, I am
going to provide the background of the situation. I will explain how the money from
the missile sales was used to support the Contras. I will also tell how everything...

In 1984, the CIA sowed mines in a major port in Nicaragua causing a severe amount
of damage. The Contras took credit for this. But a few weeks later the press exposed
the CIA involvement. In response, Congress passed a second Boland Amendment,
which said that neither the CIA nor the Defense Department could fund the Contras,
either directly or indirectly. From then on the administration worked through the
National Security Council, and NSC staff member Oliver North. NSC William Clark
established Office of Public Diplomacy for Latin America and the Caribbean
(housed in State Department but reported to the NSC), Oliver North attended the
meetings: responsible for all Contra affairs. Because the CIA was prohibited from
operating inside the United States, Director William Casey had senior propaganda
specialist Walter Raymond transferred to the NSC. As Raymond declared, his job
was to concentrate on gluing black hats on Sandinistas and white hats on Contras.
(Kornbluh, p.5) All this time, CIA intelligence analysts were saying that the Contras
couldn t win, even with American support. Robert Owen, Oliver North s personal
intermediary with the Contras is quoted as saying they were simply profiteers. 1

Social Consequentialism Essay
Consequentialism therefore states that an act, which maximises goodness, is the act
that must be carried out and this is how an individual must live. Unlike virtue ethics,
Consequentialism will ask question such as What are the consequences of a
particular action and Who will benefit the most from a particular action, and will
another action be better suited . We can look at Consequentialismin two ways
1.Agent Neutral Consequentialism this will disregard the value of a situation for an
individual, so personal goals do not confront anyone else s goals who may be in the
same situation, so that the act or act which the decision maker will take does not bias
a particular individual.
2.Agent Focused Consequentialism this will only take into and be more concerned

1.Utilitarianism an action can only be deemed to be right if it maximises happiness
and minimises pain for the greatest possible number of people.
2.Hedonism pleasure is the key to life, and that every individual s goals should be to
maximise personal pleasure.
вћўEpicureanism based on the teachings of Epicurus, embraces life and implies the
doctrine that pleasure and happiness is the chief good in life. It can be seen as a
more moderate form of Hedonism being more concerned with tranquillity and
happiness that the focus of individual goals within Hedonism.
3.Egoism concerned with maximising goodness for an individual and can be
deemed to be a selfish approach to society as external repercussions of a particular
action. If detrimental will not be considered as only the individual is important.

ABSTRACT
This project is being considered in order to reduce and totally eliminate loss of
customers to competitors, and save the company from folding up. The current
system is manual and it is time consuming. It is also cost ineffective, and average
return is low and diminishing. Currently, customers can call or walk in in order to
rent or reserve a vehicle. The staff of the company will check their file to see which
vehicle is available for rental. The current system is error prone and customers are
dissatisfied. The goal of this project is to automate vehicle rental ... Show more

It will be easy for the company staff to keep track of available, reserved or rented
vehicle so as to avoid the confusion of reserving one vehicle for two clients which is a
common problem when using manual systems To the Client/customer
The customer will not have to travel to the company offices for Him to reserve of
rent a vehicle. He will do so at the comfort of his home or office.
1.4Problem Statement
Currently the system being used is a manual one where clients have to come
physically into the office in order for them to rent or reserve a vehicle. The system
poses a number of challenges that include:
1.Time consuming
In the current system, clients have to come to the company offices physically in
order to rent or reserve a vehicle which is a waste of time.
When there are many clients to be attended to it may take long for the company staff
to serve all of them.
2.Error Prone
The company staff are very likely to make errors when using the current manual
system, for example it is very easy to reserve one car for two clients, under charge or
overcharge a client.
3.Cost
The operating cost of the current System is high but with the implementation of the
Automated System only a few no of staff will be able to run the System.
1.5 Proposed solution
The problems of the current System will be addressed by the development of an
online vehicle rental and reservation System so that customers do not need to walk in
or call in
Why Is Frederick The Great An Enlightened Despot
Frederick the Great: Enlightened Despot
Frederick II was an enlightened ruler of Prussia. The enlightenment was a period
of time in which the government ran by an absolute ruler. Rulers made significant
changes that affected religious, social, educational, and legal reforms. Frederick II
was the son of King Frederick William I who had ruled over Germany. He would
later become a king himself. He became king in 1740 and ruled for over forty years.
It was he who drastically changed Prussia into a powerful force. Frederick II would
become to be known by Frederick the Great based on the many positive things he
did during his rule. Two of the biggest achievements, he was able to make was his
military skill and religious tolerance. Since almost everyone liked him, he was able to
institute reforms in his country. His enlightenment rule would bring major efforts for
both reform and war. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a child of wealth and royalty he had grown up with the best upbringing for his
childhood. He was a very talented musician for this time. Frederick was also a
musician that had composed some of his own sonatas and symphonies. Adding to
his smart abilities, he also knew over five languages and spoke them frequently.
Also during his tenure as king he had world famous buildings built in Berlin. The
most famous that people visit today is the Berlin Opera House. Education reforms
were a very big priority for him. Since he had a strong foundation of learning, it
was necessary only for him to establish Prussia as one of the best education systems
in Europe. His cultured knowledge allowed him to be more of an open person and a
free thinker. This benefited him mightily because he was open to more ideas, making

A Limit for Their Own Good
Whether we are aware of it or not, technology has become a normal part of our
lives nowadays. No matter where we go, technology will be present, from mobile
devices to more complicated creations, and all generations are exposed to them,
specially the younger ones. This young generation spends a great deal of time in front
the screens of these technologic devices. Which is why parents should limit the
amount of time children under 12 use technology since it does not let them develop
certain abilities, it limits them from having real life interactions, and it might cause
children health problems too (Summers).
Many kids were born in the Digital Era therefore, they are surrounded by
technology and screens most of the time, mostly at home, but too much exposure
to this can affect their abilities. According to a Research made by the University of
California, Los Angeles, kids who spent time away from looking at screens were
better at recognizing human emotions than kids who kept living their lives with
technology around them (Wolpert). This show us, how replacing real life
interactions for screen time not only isolates children but also makes them unable
to develop this kind of skill, skills that are important in the real life and are likely to
be needed in the future. Besides that, kids who invest most of their time on staring at
screens can be faced by health problems in the long run. As reported by some
researchers, this health problems range from childhood obesity and irregular sleep
patterns to social and/or behavioral issues. (Summers). Therefore, considering all
these negative effects on children, parents should be more cautious regarding how
much time their kids use technology and expose themselves to screens and digital
media.
Some parents might argue, however, that kids do not necessarily waste their time
with technology and actually utilize it for educational purposes such as researching a
school project, creating music or art, or interacting with friends via social media.
(Elana). Parents might believe that this is reason acceptable enough to let them
control it as much as they need to. They are partially

The Importance Of Child Labor
We Only Ask for Justice reads a sign created by protesters of the 1903 march for
workers rights (Pinkerton Josephson). Mother Jones organized a march to the
President in order to fight against the injustice of child labor. Nelson Mandela
walked the long road in hopes of finding freedom for all, and Melba Pattillo Beals
worked alongside eight others to help integrate Little Rock s Central High School,
strengthening her inner warrior. These three individuals devoted their lives to
causes that are imperative, and although they all had their separate fashions of
standing up, they all were fighting for the same cause: human rights. Mother Jones
was a passionate person who strived to accomplish her central goal of abolishing
child labor. I love children, Mother Jones passionately told a reporter (Pinkerton
Josephson). Mother Jones was always there for the children that she met, and she
would do anything for the children, despite the fact that they weren t her own. She
had tied the shoes of children, wiped their noses, hugged them while they cried,
scrambled to find food for them, fought for their rights , all because she loved and
treasured the children (Pinkerton Josephson). Every day, children that worked in the
textile industry were forced to endanger themselves in order to complete treacherous
assignments for little pay, and this broke Mother Jones s heart. Oftentimes children
got hurt in mill accidents, and Mother Jones saw some with their hands off, some
Critique Of The Theories Of Muslimness
Critique of the Theories of Muslimness
In this section the aim is to investigate the theories of Muslimness, accusation of
unbelief and apostasy. Since, the accusation of unbelief has both theoretical and
practical problems in the history of Muslim cultures, it will be presented from the
perspective of rational reason and scriptural reason. On the one hand, the problem of
Muslimness and accusation of unbelief is based on the view of the majority of
Muslim scholars, on the other hand, this issue have always been risky consequences
and is still continuing in the present days, which bring insecurity in the modern days
in both Islamic countries and non Muslim lands.
For this reason, the origin of accusation and the manner of an encounter ... Show more

It is mentioned in another passage of the Qur an that There shall be no compulsion

In contrary to these verses, there are some other verses about apostasy and unbelief
that different sects of Muslim have distinguished interpretation. Based on their

impact of this performance can be found at schism, violence, religious cleansing

It started out as required community service. Fifty hours of required community

opportunity to volunteer in the after school program for kids every weekday, and
that became my plan for almost every day of my high school career. In my first year

day, my teacher told the class about a mom of five kids who attended our school

Evil Stereotypes Of Gay Marriage And Gay Rights
It wasn t until my best friend and I sat on the empty curb of a recently closed
Baskin Robbins that I realized all of my preconceptions of homosexual marriage and
gay rights were miserably wrong and that from then on, my beliefs on the topic were
going to change drastically.
That night, my best friend confessed he was gay and his revelation was something
my Catholic morals could not digest. I was born into a homophobic family and
raised into believing that homosexuals were associated with evil. But how could this
be? One of the nicest people I knew was gay? His words were so alien I felt like I
was somewhere else and later, I pitied him for being gay. I pitied him so much I
would pray for him, treating homosexuality like it was an illness because that was
what I was raised to believe. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

confused because later, more of my kindest friends began coming out to me and I

Was Coriolanus Responsible For His Own Fate
Coriolanus was responsible for his own fate. Coriolanus was too proud which was
part of the reason that he was killed. Also, Coriolanus did not care about the people
s wants and needs; something that came back in the form of his fate. On the
flipside, Coriolanus may not have been responsible for his own fate because
Sicinius and Brutus turned the people against him. Coriolanus was responsible for
his own fate because he was too proud which made the people of Rome hate him.
Sicinius remarked that Coriolanus was proud when Sicinius said, Was ever man so
proud as is this Martius? (Shakespeare I.1.250) Also, Brutus and Sicinius
commented that, Brutus: He s poor in no one fault, but stored with all. Sicinius:
Especially in pride. (Shakespeare II.1. 17 18) Another time in which Coriolanus
displayed his pride is in Act II, Scene 3 when Coriolanus refused to show his battle
wounds. Coriolanus felt that it would be degrading and humiliating to show his
wounds, so he would not do it even though showing them would have made him
consul and not showing them would have prevented him from becoming consul.

Here Brutus and Sicinius were trying to make Coriolanus appear worse than he

later on because Coriolanus did not have the people s best interests at heart. So
although Brutus and Sicinius were partly responsible for Coriolanus fate, Coriolanus

Mexican People And Misrepresented In The Mexican People
Many times, Mexican people are misrepresented in the media whether it s a person
writing a racist remark on social media, the president speaking ill of Mexican
people, or just people blaming Mexican s for stealing jobs from them that they didn t
want to do in the first place. Even the Mexican people born in the United Statesare
criticized just as much as immigrants are because of their race, name, or just
because they may look like the typical Mexican to other people but how can
someone try to marginalize other documented citizens for such simple
characteristics? It s sad and upsetting to see how a single person can corrupt most
individuals to believe such remarks made towards my Mexican community to get
votes for a presidential election. Trump as we all know it has made many remarks
towards Mexicans while running for office and this sparked a racial conflict between
Mexicans vs the people who support his mindless verbal attacks, when Trump was
running for office he made this remark that stood out to me a lot, When Mexicosends

problems, and they re bringing those problems with us. They re bringing drugs.
They re bringing crime. They re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people .

What Made The Union Forces Able To Achieve Victory In
The...
The Union forces were able to make great gains in the western campaign by taking
and controlling the major water ways, allowing the ability to swiftly maneuver
their forces and supplies around the battle field; in turn extensible cutting off the
Confederacy. This was accomplished through three key facts: a far superior ship
building capability then the Confederates, understanding the importance of
controlling the major river networks, and the effective employment of combined
operations to achieve success. These three items allowed the Union to quickly
gain a foothold and then spread control over the three major rivers in the area: the
Mississippi, Cumberland, and the Tennessee Rivers. At the onset of the war, both
sides struggled with combat capable ships. The Union though, was able to
establish a much stronger production capability than the Confederates, who lacked
materials and secure locations to build. The Union quickly set into production a
new class of fighting ships, which would be called the City Classers. These first of
its kind ships, designed by Samuel Pook, consisted of three gun ports off the bow,

support that ships could provide, limited large military action. It was clear to the
Union that the Confederate forts needed to be dealt with, but lacking the firepower

Cat Dog Research Paper
Do today s kids know about Hey Arnold, or about Cat dog, or even Saved By The
Bell? These shows are the foundation of what shows have become today. Maybe
these shows aren t so different than Spongebob or Drake and Josh. What have
these shows offered to the fairly new ones? People would find that there are
numerous similarities and acutely few differences. Maybe the old shows that
came out in the 1990 s inspired what today s kids watch today. Hey Arnold and
Catdog, and most of the shows that came out a couple decades ago, are cartoon.
Cat Dog is a show about a dog and a cat connected together at the end. This is the
ultimate time to say opposite sides attract. The majority of today s kids have seen
at least an episode of Spongebob. A reason why they might like it so much is
because its not very different than cat dog. Opposites attract right? Well is there a
combo than Spongebob and Patrick? Both of these shows are about two friends
who fight, but still are best friends in the end.Two very different characters put
together, maybe in this case literally. Cat Dog is a show about a dog and a cat, well,

Domestic Violence In Greenville County
Greenville County is growing faster than any other communities in South Carolina
and with over 22% of the population estimated to be over the age of 65 by 2017 and
nearly twice as many births as deaths in the county, Greenville County can expect to
encounter additional health challenges from its rapidly increasing and aging
population. Deaths from heart disease and cancer make nearly half of total deaths in
the county and affect men and women almost equally. From comparative data, it
appears that Greenville County is healthier on average than the state of South
Carolina or the nation as a whole, but the prevalence of obesity and the corresponding
health conditions indicate that there is room for a great deal of improvement in health.

aggravated assaults, 183 victims of domestic sexual violence, and 8 domestic
homicides in Greenville County alone (The Rule of Thumb: A Five Year Overview
of Domestic Violence in South Carolina, 2014). Domestic violence can happen to
anyone, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, income, or other
factors, but most cases are never even reported. Domestic violence victims face high
rates of depression, sleep disturbances, anxiety, and emotional distress and costs more
than $37 billion a year in law enforcement, legal work, and medical and mental health
treatment. Greenville County currently has several organizations that are trying to
help combat these statistics. Safe Harbor provides free and confidential information
and help to victims of domestic violence. Their services include emergency shelter,
legal assistance, a 24 hour crisis line, support groups, and community education. The
organization, Women Reaching Out, also provides shelter for women in crisis, as
well as counseling, work/study programs, life skills classes, and job training to help
women become self sufficient. Compass of Carolina is a nonprofit counseling center

The secretary general of the UN is the closest thing to a president of the world that
exists. The secretary general is nominated unanimously by the Security Council which
must include the five permanent states, and then approved by the general assembly.
The staff of the secretary general can be regarded as an international civil service,

The trusteeship council now defunct was established in order to supervise the trust

The Effects Of Pesticides On The Environment
Crops can be modified to be protected against dangerous weather. For example, an
unexpected frost can destroy sensitive seedlings. There is an antifreeze gene that is
found in cold water fish which has been introduced into potato plants. These plants
are then able to withstand cold temperatures that would normally would kill
unmodified seedlings. As I stated previously, GM crops yield more product than
conventional crops. This is because they have been altered to use water more
efficiently and to avoid the use of pesticides. On the other side, conventional crops
need to be sprayed with pesticides which are absorbed into the crops and also
create a run off of toxins where as GM crops do not. The run off from
conventionally grown crops then causes pollution and leaks into the water,
poisoning the water supply, and there s no telling what the pesticides are doing to
your body. For example, Monsanto, a company known for sustainable agriculture,
created a new type of soybeans which have been genetically modified to not be
affected by their herbicide product Roundup . A farmer will then grow the soybeans
which will only require one application of the weed killer instead of multiple
applications, which will in turn reduce the production cost and limit the dangers of
agricultural waste run off. Crops have even been modified to resist diseases such as
blight, grey mold, bunts, and powdery mildew. These are diseases which either kill
the crops or stunt their growth. By using GM

There are a number of ways to outline a paper, and the Walden Writing Center has a
page dedicated to this if you want to learn more: http://writingcenter.waldenu.edu
/318.htm. Below you will be taken through a step by step process to fill in sections
of an outline in the boxes below. Of course most outlines won t look like this (no
boxes and no instructions on exactly what should go where), but hopefully this will
give you an idea of how an outline should look so that you can use the idea of
outlining in your future papers. Please be sure to write in complete sentences in the
designated boxes below.
Outlines will normally use Roman Numerals (I, II, III and so forth). After the
numbers, letters are used (A, B, C and so forth). Basic rules say that if you have a I
, then you need to have a II, and if you have an A, then you must have a B. We will
follow this format:
I.I.Introduction
II.II.Body
III.III.Conclusion
So, you already have the first section, the introduction, of this outline done. Below
you will fill in some parts about the body of the outline. The body refers to the
majority of the paper. Be sure to follow the directions within each box.

The Guillotine Research Paper
The guillotine was one of the most popular and widely used machines designed
and used for executions by beheading. As one of the main symbols of the French
Revolution, the guillotine not only represented, but also delivered death. Since the
guillotine was in use for over 200 years, it saw much destruction and took many
lives. The guillotine has had other machines like it that were just as deadly but with
different names. The guillotine was fashioned from the idea of two other
decapitation machines (Andrews). One of them is the Halifax Gibbet. It is thought
that the first time an execution by beheading was done was in Halifax. Which is
how the Halifax Gibbet received its name (HistoryLearningSite). This machine stood
fifteen feet tall and used an axe head attached to a piece of wood that slid between
grooves of the two fifteen foot beams (Wilde).... Show more content on

The machine may have originated in 1066 but can only be proved to being used

the Halifax Gibbet in the year 1286 (HistoryLearningSite). The Halifax Gibbet was
retired on April 30th, 1650 (Wilde). The other machine the guillotine was based on
was the Scotish Maiden. The Scotish Maiden was called various names in
Edinburgh, such as the Maiden, the Miadin, and the Madin or Madyn. The
Maiden, like the Halifax, has two upright beams as part of the main structure.
Instead of an axe head like the Halifax, the Maiden just has a steel faced iron blade
with seventy five pounds of lead for weight (Hartley). The Scotish Maiden was used
for about 150 years from the year 1564 to the year 1710. In that period of time, it is

The Decreasing Value Of Production
The purpose of this section is to analyze the decreasing value of the production in
frequency between the three types of the bigram syntactic sequences and the three
types of the trigram syntactic sequences in order to test Hypothesis 2 which was
proposed for this study. Hypothesis 2 denotes that, in the learner s corpus, as
compared to the reference corpora, the production rate of the articles is lower in the
NPs which have an adjective preceding a noun(Art + Adj + N) than noun phrases
which have no preceding adjective (Art + N),
The procedure of the analysis is to compare per million normalized frequency of
the three types of the bigram syntactic sequences and the three types of the trigram
syntactic sequences within the same group and across different groups. Based on
the results of the raw production frequency of the bigram and trigram syntactic
sequences ( the+N , a+N , and an+N vs. a + N , a + Adj + N , and an + Adj + N ),
the raw production counts were normalized per 1,000,000 for inter language
comparison between the learner corpus and the reference corpus. Then, the
decreasing values between the bigram syntactic sequences and the trigram syntactic
sequences were assessed calculated by dividing the trigram sequence production rate
in the production rate of the bigram sequence.

Proposed Options for Ending the Foreclosure Crisis
I really didn t know much about foreclosure. So I did some research. I asked many
people of many different ages from eighteen to sixty two. A lot of people said, Just
pay the bill , but that is often easier said then done. Some said they got in over their
heads and were not able to get out. Some also said that their income and credit look
good on paper but did not cut it when it came to paying their bills. Some told me
their income had changed due to losing their jobs or having a spouse pass away.
There are many circumstances that are out of people s control. Attempting to gain
some control over the situation often is better than just praying that nothing bad will
happen.

This forgiveness period would assist with the foreclosures caused by people getting
laid off or having their income decreased. In the long run they would be paying
interest on six months or less twice, but still have a lower payment when they need it.
This plan also allows the banks to make their money, but not at the detriment of the
homeowner. This would also make it easier for the family to focus on getting a job
because they would not have to worry about losing their home as well. I would
think that it would be a horrible thing to be told Oh, you lost your job, but here we
can now take your home from you . This would also make it difficult to fix the
foreclosure crisis. Something has to give to help this situation get better, why not
have people start working together for the good of the situation instead of against
each other for themselves.
Now when dealing with the loss of a spouse, there are a lot of financial difficulties
that accompany the death of a spouse. These costs can include, but are not limited
to the cost of a funeral, medical debt, and still having to pay the normal bills; only
now with one income. Life doesn t stop because a spouse died, and the bills do not
stop either. I am sure that it is not uncommon for a person to want the financial stress
to stop for a while. It would be

Many of the character s in Austen s Mansfield Park are overly interested in the idea
of improving themselves, and through this Austen gives the reader an insight into
each characters wealth and estate. By doing this Austen is allowing the reader an
understanding of her characters social position and therefore an assumption into
their ideas. The patriarchal structure of society allocates a distinct relationship
between the inequality prevalent between male and females, placing women in a
secondary and submissive position within society allows men to remain dominant
and in control of the very society women exist in. an example of this in Austen s
Mansfield park can be seen in the character of Sir Thomas as the head of the family
he is responsible for guiding and protecting his family, this role which he plays is
portrayed within the novel as a necessity. His position within the family allows him
to form the female members in a way in which he believes to be proper, virtuous
and morally correct. By placing this character in her novel Austen is alluding to
Wollstonecraft s idea of women being reared t suit the needs and attitudes of the
society around them, in order for them to gain a comfortable place in society through
the prospect of marriage.
When Sir Thomas Bertram is absent from the domestic home it soon becomes clear
that Austen has calculated this absence to highlight the reliance upon men within
society in general.
Episodic Memory Analysis
By Allen and Fortin finding that other species exhibit behavior of episodic memories,
thic can further support the important evolutionary role that it serves. The idea that
episodic memory can influence one s behavior relates to the concept of how long
term memory is connected to working memory. From this perspective, this
exemplifies how episodic memorycan help individuals manipulate complex
information through processes of reasoning. For instance, if a person is faced with a
drought in their area, it would be beneficial to their survival and well being to
envision what might occur in the future; they could envision the potential loss of
food sources and access points to water if it persists long enough. They could also
think of the items
The Motivation For Jerry And Christopher At A Ice
Cream...
During my screenplay workshop, I received a lot of helpful suggestions on my
overall motivation of my characters. In my revision process, I tried to focus more
on the overall motive for my two main characters. For example, I added the
motivation for Jerry and Christopher to open an ice cream parlor. This helped with
my revisionof plot and main conflict because the two characters did not have
enough money for the down payment on the open space. As a result, they decide to
rob a bank in order to get the money for the payment. Another thing I tried to work
on during my revision was the characterization of my two main characters. The two
characters are, indeed, stupid. However, my goal was to make their appearance a
little different and they way they spoke different. An example of my use of
characterization is when Christopher speaks. For example, Christopher is very goofy
like Jerry. However, he has a small sense of responsibility/wisdom. In the car, he is
the one to have a notebook with all the information on the vacant space and bank.
Moreover, he is the one that starts to become serious when he fights the hostage in the
bank. Although both of the characters are stupid, Christopher s characteris what keeps
the guys going. Without Chris, Jerry would be clueless. We can see Jerry s
characterization through his actions. Jerry does not think anything through. For
instance, in the bank, he brings in business cards with both their names on them. This
is something stupid
Job Description Of A Ceo
For somebody who plans on being a CEO one day, knows a CEO, or is wondering
what the wages of a CEO are, would be surprised to find out that the average pay of
CEOs is $16,316,000. This number is so high because of the numerous tasks that
CEOs perform. The job description of a CEO means meeting the needs of
employees, customers, investors, communities, and the law. (Lafley, 2009) After I
read an article from the former CEO of Procter and Gamble, I understand why CEOs
are stressed and face so many difficulties everyday. Paying CEOs a large salaryis
understandable to a point, however, paying them an average of $16,316,000 is way
to high. Should CEOs be paid large salaries because they are stressed constantly and

Should the average worker get paid more, or should CEO wages be decreased? We
can find the results to these questions by looking at many large companies and
seeing how their CEOs are paid and by the work they do.
$16,316,000 was the average pay of CEOs in 2015. (Kaplan, 2008) This number is
way too high and CEO s salaries should be decreased to help further other parts of
the company. The success of a company should be the company s top priority and
they should not be putting such a large amount of money into their CEO s salary.
Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook stated in an interview that, Companies
need to make sure the CEO is happy, however, giving them several million dollar
bonuses while the company is not doing to good, should not make the CEO happy
because that means they are not doing their job correctly. (Kirichenko, 3:41)
Increasing the salary of the CEO may make them work less hard because they
know if they fail they will only go back to their original pay or receive more
money. LГ©o Apotheker was the CEO of Hewlett Packard and was fired because
he failed to meet the duties required as a CEO. When he got fired, he received $23
million for 11 months of work and received $13 million in termination benefits.
Kathy Kristof said in an interview that, we can see that increasing the CEO s salary,
like in the case with Apotheker, will not motivate them to work harder, but rather to
Essay on Legalization of Prostitution
Prostitution, considered one of the oldest professions in the world, was legal until
1915 when most states passed laws making it illegal. One of the main reasons for the
prohibition of prostitution was to keep soldiers out of the brothels so they would stay
focused on the war. After WWII, lawmakers left the prohibition laws in place instead
of repealing them. Prostitutionshould be legal, regulated, and taxed. This would
increase the quality of policeprotection, reduce waste in the judicial system, decrease
the spread of sexually transmitted diseases, and increase federal tax revenue. By
legalizing and regulating the act of prostitution, the spread of sexually transmitted
diseases (STD s) will decrease. Opponents of legalization... Show more content on

The legalization of prostitution will increase tax revenue by collecting taxes from the
legal brothels. The State of Nevada does not collect taxes from the brothels but the
separate counties do. The counties collect licensing fees, property taxes, and liquor
licensing fees. Some counties get as much as 25 percent of their business fees from
brothels. Lyon County, home to the famous Moonlite Bunnyranch, will collect
$316,000 in brothel business fees and $25,000 in permit fees next year (Associated
Press). In all ten counties combined, over twelve million dollars was collected from
legal prostitution for the 2014 fiscal year (Associated Press). The federal
government also collects income tax from the prostitutes and from the brothels.
Estimates show there to be over 500,000 prostitutes working illegally in the United
States. The government could tax those 500,000 men and women if they were
working legally in brothels. The average prostitute working legally in Nevada earns
approximately $160,000 to $180,000 a year. The taxes for that amount of income are
on average $35,000. The federal government could generate an additional $17.5
million a year in just income tax revenue by legalizing prostitution. The U.S.
government is in a financial crisis, the revenue generated by legalizing prostitution
could help alleviate some of that burden. Each state spends over ten million dollars
every year enforcing

INTRODUCTION Culture is some kind of arts. Dahl s (2001) argued that culture is
dynamic and constantly changing. There are two aspects of culture which are
material and non material. Houses, computers and physical structures are some
examples of the material culture while non material culture is the facts, skills and
understanding that you have gained through learning or experience. Other example of
this would be the feeling that something is definitely true or definitely exists such as
religious belief. According to Williams (1976), culture is reflected as a way of life,
activities, beliefs and customs practised by an individual, a group or a society. They
developed themselves from the aspects of intellectuality, spirituality and aesthetically.
Seven functions of culture according to Mazrui (1996) are communication,
perception, identity, value systems, motivation, stratification and production and
consumption. Facebook was launched on the 4th of February by Mark Zuckerberg in
2004. Recently, the
Philosophy of Technology Integration Essay
Over the past few years technology has taken on a whole new meaning. We have
moved from the days of chalkboards, to whiteboards, to interactive whiteboards. Our
students seem to be more computer savvy than their teachers. Home telephones are
starting to become a thing of the past, and cell phones have turned into mini
computers. Technological geniuses have even tried to eliminate books by creating
electronic books, for example the Kindle and Nook. It has become pretty evident that
being technologically smart is a necessity in today s world. In the past, technology
was something that was only used in our homes and by the wealthy. However, this
has become a thing of the past. Classrooms have become more interactive and

I have always been a firm believer in the utilization of technology on regular
occasions, in my classroom. My students are given opportunities to use many
different types of technology, such as; Smart Boards, Airliner Wireless Slates,
Classroom Performance Systems, Document Cameras, and of course computers. I
believe that in order for our students to be successful in today s workplace,
computer literacy is a necessity. My philosophy on technology is this, in order for
us and our students to be competitive in today s workforce, we must be sure to
educate our students on how to properly use it. The most commonly used form of
technology, in our classrooms, is the computer. In order for the computers to be used
correctly, and computer time to be used effectively students must adhere to the
guidelines set in place. The following guidelines, from Betty Kistler would be great to
post in at the computer stations in the classroom;
(1)Keep your hands off the keyboard and mouse until you know what we re doing.
(2)Work quietly and stay on task. Make every effort to do your best.
(3)Spell check and proofread before printing. (make sure to get approval from your
teacher before printing)
(4)Get permission if you want to use the internet for anything other than the day s
assignment. (give students with permission a brightly colored card)
(5)Leave your workspace the way you d like
The Creation of Barbie as an American Icon Essay examples
The Creation of Barbie as an American Icon
Barbie, at the age of 41, is one of the longest living toys in America. Analyzing her
early history can give a person a look into the societal trends and culture of the late
1950 s and early 1960 s. There is evidence of fashion innovations in Barbie s
wardrobe. Also, one can see the perception of females by society, such as what they
should look like, how they should act and dress, as well as what their future goals
could be. The following essay follows Barbie s history from 1959 to 1963, covering
her development, her appeal to children, and her existence as a cultural artifact of the
time period.

In addition to a different body, Bud Westmore, the make up czar at Universal
Pictures, gave Lilli a makeover (Lord 32). He discarded her bee stung lips, heavy
eyelashes, and widow s peek eyebrows (Lord 32). Following these improvements,
Ryan modified the doll s joints.
Finally in 1958, Barbie Millicent Roberts was born 11 1/2 inches tall and weighing
11 ounces. She debuted as a teenage model in a black and white striped swimsuit
that came with sunglasses, high heeled shoes, and gold colored hoop earrings (see
Figure 1). Her body was shapely with movable head, arms, and legs. Barbie was the
first doll in America with an adult body.
America s Reaction
Ruth Handler realized that pretending about the future was a part of the growing
up process. While she watched her daughter, Barbara (who Barbie is named after),
playing with paper dolls, Handler formulated the idea of creating an adult doll. This
was not necessarily a new idea because there were adult fashion dolls, such as Cissy
and Miss Revlon, which were on the market. The phenomenon behind Barbie was
that she was an affordable toy that had those same grown up accessories as the other
adult dolls.
As soon as Barbie was introduced to the public, her mature body horrified many
adult females. Mothers said they would not allow their child to play with Barbie
because they were wary of her sex appeal. Mattel conducted a study with mothers and
daughters before they introduced Barbie. Barbie s sexy
The Negative Effects Of Media Multitasking And Its
Effects...
1. The key issue which pertains to child development in this article is the negative
effects which multitasking has on kids brains and their ability to store long term
memories. Many children and teens have the overly inflated idea that they can attend
to multiple things at once and still pay attention to homeworkor a teacher talking in
class. Multitaskingin general is not harmful but when it comes to children
multitasking while they are learning, it has the potential for the biggest negative
effect (Paul, 2013). In Paul s (2013) article, there is research presented by the Kaiser
Family Foundation which indicated that a third of the individuals who were surveyed
stated that they used other media outlets at the same time as they were studying or
doing homework. Media multitaskingwhile learning has the most potential to have
negative downsides because it is impairing the storing of the long term memories
necessary to recall said information later. In other studies, researchers have recorded
the large increase of negative effects which took place when children multitask while
studying. The most important thing for parents to do is remember that their children
will media multitask and it s okay. Just make sure that when it comes to homework
that they put everything aside and focus on what s in front of them (Roberts, 2013).
2. In the research presented in Berk (2018), it is seen that multitasking considerably
reduces learning capabilities. Children who are multitasking
Writing At The University Of Sydney
Welcome listeners to this week s podcast of The Poet s Voice, where we like to
believe that poetry is language at its most distilled and powerful. I am your weekly
host, Judy Robinson and this week, we are joined by the distinguished Professor
Brianne Dwyer, who is currently lecturing Creative Writing at the University of
Sydney. In today s segment, guest Brianne Dwyer will be focusing on the influential
and prodigious metaphysical poetrymovement, most potent in the 15th to 16th
Centuries.
Thank you for that kind introduction Judy, I am delighted to be a guest of your show
this week! As you heard from Judy, I will be looking at a poetry movement from the
16th Century, however my particular area of focus today is on the renowned
Metaphysical poet, John Donne, and his poem titled Woman s Constancy. Those of
you who are aware of Donne and his works will know of the challenging
perspectives his poems held towards the common ideologies of marriage, life and
death, religion and love, proposed by the Church of England.
Stylistically, Donne s poems often present disputes between two lovers, his satirical
and sometimes even sceptical interpretation of love and relationships, and also his
ties to his faith and religion (Locklear, 2014). Donne s visionary works led him to
become a sole initiator of the metaphysical style of poetry. The ideologies of the time
in which he was writing impacted his perspectives greatly, but also provided a
stimulating and solid viewpoint from his
Bryson-Powell Research Paper
When Baden Powell was commanding troops in the Boer war, he took action
when he realized that his men were incapable of surviving in the harsh conditions
of the war wracked frontier. In India he discovered that the soldiers he was
commanding did not have the knowledge of basic first aid. To aid his fellow men,
Baden Powell wrote a small handbook called Aids to Scouting, which emphasized
resourcefulness, adaptability, and the qualities of leadership that the harsh frontier
demanded ( History of Cub Scouting ). With the help of this small handbook, he and
his fellow soldiers were able to withstand the Boer War. Upon his arrival to England,
Robert Baden Powellwas astonished to discover that his little handbook had caught

A study done by researchers from Tufts University reveals that Scouting is
scientifically proven to promote positive character development (Cordaro). The
helpful, forward thinking ideology of Boy Scouts has helped boys grow into
optimistic and motivated young adults. Dr. Richard M. Lerner, the leader of the
study at Tufts University, reports, After three years, Scouts reported significant
increases in cheerfulness, helpfulness, kindness, obedience, trustworthiness, and
hopeful future expectations (Tufts University). All of these traits, coincidentally, are
the same traits that Baden Powell promoted in the Scout Law: trustworthy, loyal,
helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and
reverent. Scouting;s focus on a prosocial experience gives young people the chance
to build a positive character that allow them the chance to embrace opportunity,
overcome obstacles, and Be Prepared for life.
A Metacognitive Analysis
Metacognition is a crucial part of the critical thinking process. It is referred to as
thinking about thinking or the monitoring and control of thought (Martinez 696).
During the last decades, topic of metacognition gets more and more attention from
psychologists, educators, and students. The incoming data, supporting the
significance of metacognitive abilities and their development, serves as a base for
implementation of the teaching of metacognition. Metacognition can and should be
taught in the conditions of the modern educational system.
Metacognition plays a major role both in individual s academic and everyday life. In
the article The Power of Reflection , Stephen Fleming agrees with Flavell s definition
of metacognition as a key to educational success (2). Many studies have proved that
highly cultivated metacognitive abilities enhance individual s academic performance
and lead to academic success (Jacobson 5). Furthermore, Fleming argues that
metacognition, being applied in a wide range of the situations, turns out to be a vital
survival skill (7). Thus, given the significance of metacognition, the teaching of
metacognitive strategies should become one of the primary goals of modern
education system. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Modern studies suggest that metacognition is an independent function of the brain
and not just a skill individuals acquire during their lifetime (Fleming 4). However,
our ability to reflect and appraise our own thinking process is not an automatic
process but is a result of long term development of the cognitive system (Jacobson 4).
Therefore, metacognition needs to be cultivated in a person through different
approaches and techniques. Moreover, continuous work on the metacognitive
development in both academic and everyday life is the only way to master and gain
proficiency of metacognitive
The Importance Of College Experience In College
While college is often seen as the greatest years of a person s life, the college
experience has proven to be a time of extreme transformation and development.
However, given the number of contexts that are influencing students to pursue a
postsecondary degree, one s transformative process can vary significantly from
person to person. As a result, colleges must continue to work to develop a greater
awareness of the students they are serving, while also considering valuable initiatives
that will foster their growth and development. As I think back to the story I shared
during my StoryCorp, I started by talking about my background growing up in an
upper middle class community, where a vast majority of students were encouraged to
enroll... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After explaining the context I grew up in, I then went on to describe my college visits
and how I determined which institution had the best fit. As I thought about what was
important to me, I realized that I wanted to attend a smaller sized school between one
and two hours away from home. Although I was also undecided about what I wanted
to study, I also wanted to attend a school with a rigorous academic curriculum,
despite the fact that I applied to mostly safety and target schools. However, when
thinking about the issues impacting many communities with high concentrations of
prospective first generation college students, it is probable that many families are
unable to schedule visits to colleges and universities outside of their neighborhood.
As a result, universities must be mindful of the personal issues facing families with
first generation college students and consider traveling into the communities these
students live in to give them the opportunity to learn more about the different
colleges available to them (Lowery Hart Pacheco, 2011). However, I believe that the
venue of the event could affect the kinds of students who are willing attend these
kinds of programs. For instance, although I had not mentioned this in my StoryCorp,
I had the opportunity to attend an event similar to this as I started to narrow down
which schools I was most interested in. However, because the venue had been
located at a luxury hotel, I wonder if this space might have seemed
Benedict Arnold Essay examples
Known for his betrayl against the Continental Army, Benedict Arnold is most
remembered for becoming a turncoat during the Revolutionary War. But, before
switiching sides Benedict was a strong military leader and an excellent soldier. And,
on both sides of the war, Benedict had great victories. Through his patriotic and
traitorous acts, Benedict Arnold helped shape the course of the American Revolution.
In 1775, Benedict Arnold had taken his first victory Fort Ticonderoga. The Battle of
the fort occured on May 10, 1775. Arnold and four hundred soldiers stood opposite of
the fort on Lake Champlain and waited for the scouting units to return (CIA). When
they had returned, they told Benedict that the fort had only housed fourty nine British

They also had to deal with terrible terrian, rough waters, and a hurricane. Through
their stay more desertions occured and the amount of soldiers decreased from
1,100 to a mere 400. They had decided to retreat. (Maine) Short on rations, the main
forces crossed the current boarder of Canada on October 25th and traveled down
Chaudiere River. The group reached the opposite end of Quebec, Point Levis, on
Novemeber 9th. On the 14th Arnold crossed St.Lawerence River with the remaining
forces. The battle of Quebec occured on December 31st and the Continental Army
became a disasterous for the Americans. Though they kept the city during the
winter, the campiange in Canada failed. The British took the city and the army fell
back (Maine ) Two years later, Benedict had one of his greatest achievements. The
Battle of Saratoga was the turning poin tof the American Revolution and with
Benedict s aid he had helped make the victory possible. On September 19th, Arnold
had persistantly asked his commanding officer,Horatio Gates, into sending a group of
riflemen into the west woods around Freeman s farm. Gates had given Benedict his
permission and Benedict eagarly sent out some of the best riflemen in that area.
(General) Conflict had eruppted between Horatio and Benedict, causing Benedict to
almost leave. But, due to his want of being in the battle and a petition signed by most
of the line officers, Benedict stayed. And as the
The Fascination Of War Literature
War is full of death and destruction, it is full of a lot of things including literature. In
war there are no rules, the same is for literature there are no rules the possibility of
what to write about is endless. My fascination of war truly began when my
grandfather started to open up about what he went through in the Vietnam War.
Most soldiers who have went to war and have come back are not the same as when
they left. It is very hard for them to talk about what they have been through while at
war, but when they talk one should listen because they may never be able to have
the strength to tell that story again. One may not realize how much it takes for a
Veteran to tell a story of what they went through, because as they are telling the
story they are re living the story mentally. Most soldiers are not capable of telling
stories without having to go through counseling. In most cases if a soldier was to
try to tell a story without counseling, they will freak out thinking they are back in
the place that brought them the trauma. In today s world it is mandatory for
Veterans to receive counseling to help them with their trauma instead of trying to
figure it out their selves. Therefore, war literature is very important because of the
meaning behind it all. We should give respect to war literature, especially if it comes
from a solider himself. When one should read about war literature they should take
into consideration of how hard it might have been for the person to talk
The Importance Of Green Fluorescent Protein
In the 1960 s, Green Fluorescent Protein was discovered to be responsible for
Aequorea victoria s fluorescence under UV light (Niwa et al., 1996). Today, GFP is
often used in protein tagging and has made it possible for scientists to study
expression and track proteins in vivo. With the rising importance of GFP fusion
proteins and other recombinant vectors, the metal affinity of Histidine helps to make
the proteinpurification process easier (Lilius et al., 1991). His tags are commonly
used to purify proteins through immobilized metal affinity chromatography (IMAC)
(Lilius et al., 1991). This rapid and efficient method separates the recombinant protein
from unwanted products such as RNA. The His tag DNAsequence is inserted into the

It is of strong interest to molecular biologists because of the strong light emission
of 508 nm under UV light. UV wavelengths excite the fluorophore, contained in the
Ser Tyr Gly sequence near GFP s N terminus, and a bright green fluorescence is
given off as a result (Niwa et al., 1996). GFP can be successfully tagged to many
proteins without disturbing their function (Feilmeier et al., 2000). This allows
scientists to exploit the protein for its usefulness in marking proteins in vivo. GFP
tagging has many applications. It can be used to study gene expression by inserting
gfp after a promotor in the plasmid, so that if expressed, the colony expressing the
gene of interest can be identified by a green fluorescence of GFP under UV light
(Feilmeier et al., 2000). Specific cellular organelles can be tagged, such as the
endoplasmic reticulum, to visualize protein localization and networking inside the
living cell. GFP can also be used to monitor cofactor levels within a cell in real time.
For example, when GFP was tagged to proteins that contain a receptor sensitive to
Ca2+, they interacted in a way so that the fluorescence of the fusion protein was
proportional to the calcium ion concentration with less than a 1 second lag in the cell
(Romoser et al., 1997). Throughout the decades, GFP mutants have been created to
give brighter emission and different wavelengths. Researchers can track separate cell
pathways at the same time, since different proteins can
Histamine Research Paper
What does your histamine do?
Histamine is a chemical produced, stored and has multiple roles within the body.
Histamine is part of your immune system responses and is released when we have
allergic reactions (a reaction could be a runny nose or sneezing). It also manages
physiological functions in the gut. Histamine plays a vital role in our body s defense
system and its main purpose is to keep your body safe.
Where does your histamine come from? What processes produce it?
Histamine is created by basophils and mast cells found in connective tissues.
Histamine also comes from food (through microbial action where histidine is turned
into histamine) and immune cells which are basophils, mast cells and eosinophils.

People with Cushing s syndrome will experience rapid weight gain in the face,
abdomen, and chest. People with Cushing s syndrome may have a disproportional
body such as having slender arms and legs compared to the core of the body which
may look wider. Cushing s syndrome can also cause a flushed face, high blood
pressure, changes in skin, mood swings and osteoporosis.
Deficiency of cortisol can cause Addison s disease. Addison s disease is a rare
disease as the body s immune system attacks healthy cells (autoimmune disease) and
can cause harm to the adrenal glands. People with Addison s disease can experience
slow symptoms at first, however they can become serious over time. This includes
fatigue, muscle loss, weight loss, changes in skin and mood swings.
What steps occur in the cortisol feedback system?
The cortisol feedback system controls secretion and regulating the amount of cortisol
in the bloodstream.
After a stressful event, the levels of hormones ACTH (adrenocorticotrophin) and
CRH (corticotropin) increase, making a rise in cortisol levels. When there is
inadequate or excess amounts or cortisol present, a negative feedback system
functions on the hypothalamus and pituitary gland which then alerts these areas to
reduce the amount of ACTH and CRH to help reduce cortisol secretion till there is an
adequate level
Persuasive Essay On The Internet
It can be considered as one of the most valuable types of technology. During the
last several years we have come to be more and more dependent on the Internet and
in particular moving huge chunks of data across large distances. The Internet
allows people to communicate with each other across the world within mere
fractions of seconds with the help of E mail and Messenger. The Internet also
allows for expressing opinions and obtaining up to date information from the
world wide web. The new software is being developed every day which uses the
Internet as the carrier for long distance voice calls and video conferencing like
FaceTime and Skype, which would hold the key to the future of our society. Whether
someone is sending e mail, posting on message boards, or reading the news online,
people are guaranteed the same freedom of self expression that we enjoy offline. In
other countries, the mere act of accessing websites that criticize the government is an
offense that can land you in prison. Australia, similar to the United States, perceives
and ensures a person s freedom of expression. Although, they have an alternate view
on what is appropriate on the Internet. Australia has taken the position to confine
adults privilege of the right to speak freely on the Internet, in order to avoid children
for getting material that is esteemed unsuitable for minors. However, it also averts
content considered objectionable to be uploaded on the internet, in this manner

Benefits And Forms Of The Home Equity Line Of Credit
Many consumers have welcomed the ever increasing trend of an Equity Line of
Credit as one of their primary credit options. An equity line of credit allows you to
use the existing value contained within your property to access additional funds via a
lender. In addition to allowing you the freedom to take control of your financial
future, an Equity Line of Credit creates refinancing possibilities that you may have
never thought possible.
One of the most popular forms of an Equity Line of Credit is a Home Equity Line
of Credit. If you own a home, you have available credit contained within these walls.

Many lenders, due to the competitive nature of the money market, offer low
introductory rates that give the consumer many choices during the beginning of
their loaning period. This allows the consumer to either ease into their payments,
or pay off their initial purchases at a fraction of the cost they would be paying with
an exorbitant credit card. And, unlike a credit card, which can drag you into a
lifetime of debt, an Equity Line of Credit is established only for pre determined
period you get the money when you need it, and when the loan has run its course
and served its purpose it is paid and done. No years of dragged out finance charges,
just concise effective financing. The APR for your line of credit can be either a
fixed rate or variable rate, depending on what you and your lender see fit for your
situation. Variable rates will always be published and immediately available for
reference.
The Benefits of an Equity Line of Credit are usually compared to the benefits of a
Second Mortgage. The Second Mortgage is an available option with different
parameters. A Second Mortgage is a predetermined amount of money available to the
lender that must be paid in fixed increments, at fixed points in time. When compared
with the Equity Line of Credit, it does not allow the personalization characteristics,
but it does provide a little more stability. The Second Mortgage is just a second
option for a consumer who wants to maximize there available financing.

Racial Discrimination Essay

  • 1. Racial Discrimination Essay Crafting an essay on the topic of racial discrimination is no simple task. It requires a deep understanding of the historical, social, and psychological dimensions of the issue. The complexity arises from the sensitivity of the subject, as it involves addressing deep-seated prejudices, systemic inequalities, and the impact on individuals and communities. Researching for such an essay involves delving into a plethora of sources, including academic journals, historical records, sociological studies, and personal narratives. Understanding the nuances of racial discrimination requires one to navigate through a vast array of perspectives, each offering a unique insight into the multifaceted nature of the problem. Moreover, writing on racial discrimination demands a careful and empathetic approach. It's not just about presenting facts and statistics; it's about conveying the human experience, the pain of discrimination, and the resilience of those who face it. Striking the right balance between conveying the severity of the issue and promoting awareness without further perpetuating stereotypes is a delicate art. Addressing the root causes and proposing viable solutions to combat racial discrimination adds another layer of difficulty. It requires critical thinking, creativity, and a comprehensive understanding of the socio-political landscape. Attempting to encapsulate such a broad and deeply ingrained issue within the confines of an essay demands precision and clarity of thought. In conclusion, writing an essay on racial discrimination is challenging due to the need for extensive research, a nuanced understanding of the topic, and the delicate nature of addressing such a sensitive subject. It's a task that requires not only academic prowess but also empathy and a commitment to fostering positive change. • 2. Athletes With Abnormal Av Conduction Characterized By An... Athletes with abnormal AV conduction characterized by an HV interval 90 ms or a His Purkinje block should have pacemaker implantation. Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT): SVTs are not more common in athletes than in the general population of a similar age distribution, with the possible exception of atrial fibrillation (AF). Treatment of these SVTs with catheter ablation is likely to achieve a permanent cure and, in general, is preferable to lifelong therapy with pharmacological agents. Atrial Fibrillation: Athletes with AF should undergo a work up that includes thyroid function tests, queries for drug use, ECG, and echocardiogram. Athletes with low risk AF that is well tolerated and self terminating may participate in all competitive sports without therapy. In athletes with AF, when antithrombotic therapy, other than aspirin, is indicated, it is reasonable to consider the bleeding risk in the context of the specific sport before clearance. Catheter ablation for AF could obviate the need for rate control or antiarrhythmic drugs and should be considered. Syncope: Athletes with exercise induced syncope should be restricted from all competitive athletics until evaluated by a qualified medical professional. Athletes with syncope should be evaluated with a history, physical examination, ECG, and selective use of other diagnostic tests when there is suspicion of structural heart disease or primary electrical abnormalities that may predispose to recurrent syncope or sudden
  • 3. Gangs and Violence in the United States Essay In todays United States we have a huge problem affecting society, gangs and the violence that follows them wherever they go. These days gangs aren t just compiled of grown adults, they often lure in young teens to do dirty work and to add numbers to their turf. Despite laws aimed straight at these gangs they still defy the law and wreak havoc upon the territory that they claim. The members in the gang have a gang first mentality and will do everything possible to provide for and protect their fellow members. They will very rarely snitch on their own to help put a stop to some of the meaningless crimes committed by these savages. Gangs are centered on a certain territory or turf that is claimed by that gang. When rival gangs enter that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When young teens get involved with gangs they pretty much throw their lives away because they leave school and frequently get arrested taking away any hope of getting a real job and honest living. Being arrested is treated like a game to many people that are etched into the gang life. Many of the gangs that terrorize cities all over the United States are also established inside of prison. A lot of the time these members are the hardest of the hardest. The members will trade people for tangible items such as drugs, food, money, cigarettes, and many more things. Gangs are able to get a lot of tasks done in prison even though there is police or guards watching the moves the men and women are taking. People believe that arresting these members is putting a stop to the gangs and teaching them a lesson but in all actuality these men and women are just being taken off the streets to do the exact something while incarcerated. Even though they are carrying out the same actions in prison it is much better than outside because there isn t other people and children at risk. In society there is no possible way to turn every gang member into a changed person. But there is a way to lead these young teens away from that type of lifestyle. It s through many projects and programs that are completely centered on these teens to help get them off the streets and into school to get a good education. On television they have a show where at
  • 4. Identity Fraud And Identity Theft Computer crimes can be defined as the unauthorized use of a computer for personal gain, as in the illegal transfer of funds or to alter the data or property of others (Dictionary.com.) Some examples of computer crimes are identity theft, transaction fraud, hacking, and piracy (Opposing News.) One aspect of a computercrime that I will cover in this exam is identity theft. The Department of Justice defines identity theft and identity fraudas terms used to refer to all types of crime in which someone wrongfully obtains and uses another person s personal data in some way that involves fraud or deception, typically for economic gain (Department of Justice.) Information that can be used to aid in the theft of your identity includes personally identifiable information (PII.) PII can be best described as data that could potentially be used to identify a specific person; which includes information such as your date of birth, social security number, address and mother s maiden name (Rouse 2014.) In the wrong hands, this information enables someone to steal your identity and leave you financially responsible for the actions taken by the thief.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I do not believe that these problems are limited to the United States, I think that this is a global issue with a far reaching impact that we must work locally in order to change the global perception that computer crimes are a victimless crime because you do not always get to face your attacker. I especially believe that identity theft will continue to be a problem that will only grow in direct proportion to the number of internet users around the
  • 5. Ethical Issues Of Legalizing Marijuana The legalization of cannabis, much better known as marijuana, is one of the most controversially discussed issues in our country today. Marijuana has many specific medical benefits and is a better alternative to other medications already permitted for medical use. In 2012, two states legalized marijuana for recreational use. An additional 18 states, plus the District of Columbia, had already legalized medical marijuana. Even though marijuana is still illegal at the Federal level, President Barack Obama said very clearly that his administration will not seek to enforce the law in states that have deemed cannabislegal. Currently, marijuana is classified as a Schedule I substance by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). A Schedule I status... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Producers and sellers are unlicensed and completely unregulated. Unlike licensed businesses that sell liquor or tobacco, marijuana sellers operate virtually anywhere and have no incentive not to sell to children or teens. Prohibition guarantees that marijuana will not be inspected for purity or labeled for potency, and ensures that the only people selling marijuana will be criminals. Our current laws do not control marijuana, but they do ensure that 100% of the profits from marijuana sales remain in the hands of criminals and gangs. Also, those people who are concerned with the potency of marijuana should support regulation. Producers of wine, beer,
  • 6. Persuasive Speech On Killing By Poisons Carson initiates a major environmental call to action to address the ongoing problem of farmers harming birds. She persuades her audience of Americans in the 1960 s to stand along side her to ban the use of deadly poisons that harm living creatures. Carson does so through her use of negative diction, imagery and an ethical appeal. Carson wastes no time in characterizing farmers as murderers who target birds. When drawing attention to the fact that the habit of killing grows and farmers have adapted to killing by poison, she exposes the harsh practices of farmers. Carson also forces her readers to understand that these pesticides are really weapons, using phrasing such as chains of poisoning and target of poisons. Carson also adds that these poisons are deadly and trigger a wave of death, an example being in 1959 when farmers caused the death of some 65,000 red winged blackbirds and starlings. She is disgusted by these recurrences and sends a strong message to her audience that this must be stopped. Carson deliberately adds that these farmers act as if they are on a mission of death just waging a needless war on blackbirds. How outlandish, Carson reveals, is it for these grown men to act as if this is a balanced battle. Their actions are especially horrible because they took to killing with poison when the problem could have been solved easily with some agricultural changes. Carson characterizes farmers as murders to reveal that they are horrible for
  • 7. Juvenile Delinquency Essay Juvenile delinquents, or youth that have been convicted of a crime, seem to be the norm these days. Citizens, families, and poliy makers want new programs and policies within the juvenile justice system. Researchers have found that the family structure can be a precursor to delinquent behavior, and families do not have the control or blance that they once did. As such, mew measures need to be implemented to help these families in crisis. Rehabilitation of the familyunit is the answer, say many, not punishment. In response to this, new ideas have formed to rehabilitate the family unit, but first, the family structures that are precursors to delinquent behavior must be identified. Family Life, Delinquency, and Crime: A Policymaker s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The book focuses on single parent homes, parental involvement, family tension and family economics as key factors of juvenile delinquency. Although, Mr. Trojanowicz states family economics plays a key role in determining juvenile delinquency. A family s inability to provide for the material needs of a child can create insecurity in a child, thus, the child may seek material needs and suport from outside the family (77). In conclusion he finds that many delinquents do not come from low income families, and the economic condition of the family is probably one of the least meaningful contributing factors. The research clearly shows and supports the theory that the family structure is directly related to juvenile delinquency. What is society doing to help these families in trouble? Competency Training, the Office of Juvenile Justice and Dleinquency Prevention (OJJDP), examines one of the family programs that have been established. The program they examined was, Iowa s Strenghtening Families Program. (ISFP) The SFP is a 7 week course designed to bring parents together with their 10 to 14 year old children, with the goal of reducing substance abuse and other problem behavior in youth. The curriculum uses parallel content to emphasize, to the family and the youth, improved parenting skills, and better communication for both parents and the youth. For example, while the parents are learning how to use consequences when youth break rules, youth

Through out 1985 86, the Reagan administration was selling weapons to Iran illegally in order to encourage Iran to free hostages in the Middle East. Meanwhile, the Reagan administration wanted to support the Contrasin Nicaragua, a rebel group fighting to overthrow the Sandinista government. The administration decided to use the money made from selling arms to Iran, and had it sent to the Contras without passing through the United States. (Walsh, p2.) But a few weeks later the press exposed the CIA involvement. In response, Congress passed a second Boland Amendment, which said that neither the CIA nor the Defense Department could fund the Contras, either directly or indirectly. From then on the administration worked through the National Security Council, and NSC staff member Oliver North. NSC William Clark established Office of Public Diplomacy for Latin America and the Caribbean (housed in State Department but reported to the NSC), Oliver North attended the meetings: responsible for all Contra affairs. Because the CIA was prohibited from operating inside the United States, Director William Casey had senior propaganda specialist Walter Raymond transferred to the NSC. As Raymond declared, his job was to concentrate on gluing black hats on Sandinistas and white hats on Contras. (Kornbluh, p.5) All this time, CIA intelligence analysts were saying that the Contras couldn t win, even with American support. Robert Owen, Oliver North s personal intermediary with the Contras is quoted as saying they were simply profiteers. 1 Meanwhile, during 1985 86, as mentioned earlier, the Reagan administration was selling weapons to Iran illegally in order to encourage Iran to free hostages in the Middle East. We can look at Consequentialismin two ways 1.Agent Neutral Consequentialism this will disregard the value of a situation for an individual, so personal goals do not confront anyone else s goals who may be in the same situation, so that the act or act which the decision maker will take does not bias a particular individual. 2.Agent Focused Consequentialism this will only take into and be more concerned with the actions of a particular individual and their needs, meaning that they are overly ... • 12. A Limit For Their Own Good Milagro Ascencio Mrs. Mary Jo Loftin English 3 8th August 2017 A Limit for Their Own Good Whether we are aware of it or not, technology has become a normal part of our lives nowadays. No matter where we go, technology will be present, from mobile devices to more complicated creations, and all generations are exposed to them, specially the younger ones. This young generation spends a great deal of time in front the screens of these technologic devices. Which is why parents should limit the amount of time children under 12 use technology since it does not let them develop certain abilities, it limits them from having real life interactions, and it might cause children health problems too (Summers). Many kids were born in the Digital Era therefore, they are surrounded by technology and screens most of the time, mostly at home, but too much exposure to this can affect their abilities. According to a Research made by the University of California, Los Angeles, kids who spent time away from looking at screens were better at recognizing human emotions than kids who kept living their lives with technology around them (Wolpert). This show us, how replacing real life interactions for screen time not only isolates children but also makes them unable to develop this kind of skill, skills that are important in the real life and are likely to be needed in the future. Besides that, kids who invest most of their time on staring at screens can be faced by health problems in the long run. As reported by some researchers, this health problems range from childhood obesity and irregular sleep patterns to social and/or behavioral issues. (Summers). Therefore, considering all these negative effects on children, parents should be more cautious regarding how much time their kids use technology and expose themselves to screens and digital media. Some parents might argue, however, that kids do not necessarily waste their time with technology and actually utilize it for educational purposes such as researching a school project, creating music or art, or interacting with friends via social media. (Elana). Parents might believe that this is reason acceptable enough to let them control it as much as they need to. They are partially

  • 14. The Importance Of Child Labor We Only Ask for Justice reads a sign created by protesters of the 1903 march for workers rights (Pinkerton Josephson). Mother Jones organized a march to the President in order to fight against the injustice of child labor. Nelson Mandela walked the long road in hopes of finding freedom for all, and Melba Pattillo Beals worked alongside eight others to help integrate Little Rock s Central High School, strengthening her inner warrior. These three individuals devoted their lives to causes that are imperative, and although they all had their separate fashions of standing up, they all were fighting for the same cause: human rights. Mother Jones was a passionate person who strived to accomplish her central goal of abolishing child labor. I love children, Mother Jones passionately told a reporter (Pinkerton Josephson). Mother Jones was always there for the children that she met, and she would do anything for the children, despite the fact that they weren t her own. She had tied the shoes of children, wiped their noses, hugged them while they cried, scrambled to find food for them, fought for their rights , all because she loved and treasured the children (Pinkerton Josephson). Every day, children that worked in the textile industry were forced to endanger themselves in order to complete treacherous assignments for little pay, and this broke Mother Jones s heart. Oftentimes children got hurt in mill accidents, and Mother Jones saw some with their hands off, some

Since, the accusation of unbelief has both theoretical and practical problems in the history of Muslim cultures, it will be presented from the perspective of rational reason and scriptural reason. On the one hand, the problem of Muslimness and accusation of unbelief is based on the view of the majority of Muslim scholars, on the other hand, this issue have always been risky consequences and is still continuing in the present days, which bring insecurity in the modern days in both Islamic countries and non Muslim lands. (Shakespeare II.1. 17 18) Another time in which Coriolanus displayed his pride is in Act II, Scene 3 when Coriolanus refused to show his battle wounds. Coriolanus felt that it would be degrading and humiliating to show his wounds, so he would not do it even though showing them would have made him consul and not showing them would have prevented him from becoming consul. Mexican People And Misrepresented In The Mexican People Many times, Mexican people are misrepresented in the media whether it s a person writing a racist remark on social media, the president speaking ill of Mexican people, or just people blaming Mexican s for stealing jobs from them that they didn t want to do in the first place. Even the Mexican people born in the United Statesare criticized just as much as immigrants are because of their race, name, or just because they may look like the typical Mexican to other people but how can someone try to marginalize other documented citizens for such simple characteristics? It s sad and upsetting to see how a single person can corrupt most individuals to believe such remarks made towards my Mexican community to get votes for a presidential election. Trump as we all know it has made many remarks towards Mexicans while running for office and this sparked a racial conflict between Mexicans vs the people who support his mindless verbal attacks, when Trump was running for office he made this remark that stood out to me a lot, When Mexicosends its people, they re not sending their best... They re sending people that have lots of problems, and they re bringing those problems with us. They re bringing drugs. They re bringing crime. They re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people . The Union forces were able to make great gains in the western campaign by taking and controlling the major water ways, allowing the ability to swiftly maneuver their forces and supplies around the battle field; in turn extensible cutting off the Confederacy. This was accomplished through three key facts: a far superior ship building capability then the Confederates, understanding the importance of controlling the major river networks, and the effective employment of combined operations to achieve success. These three items allowed the Union to quickly gain a foothold and then spread control over the three major rivers in the area: the Mississippi, Cumberland, and the Tennessee Rivers. At the onset of the war, both sides struggled with combat capable ships. The Union though, was able to establish a much stronger production capability than the Confederates, who lacked materials and secure locations to build. The Union quickly set into production a new class of fighting ships, which would be called the City Classers. These first of its kind ships, designed by Samuel Pook, consisted of three gun ports off the bow, four on either side and two at the rear. The sides and top of the... These forts denied both Rogers and Grant from any true combat action south of Cairo, Illinois. Grant was able to attempt smaller military action, but lacking the support that ships could provide, limited large military action. It was clear to the Union that the Confederate forts needed to be dealt with, but lacking the firepower needed, they would have to wait until the City Classers entered

There is an antifreeze gene that is found in cold water fish which has been introduced into potato plants. These plants are then able to withstand cold temperatures that would normally would kill unmodified seedlings. As I stated previously, GM crops yield more product than conventional crops. This is because they have been altered to use water more efficiently and to avoid the use of pesticides. On the other side, conventional crops need to be sprayed with pesticides which are absorbed into the crops and also create a run off of toxins where as GM crops do not. The run off from conventionally grown crops then causes pollution and leaks into the water, poisoning the water supply, and there s no telling what the pesticides are doing to your body. For example, Monsanto, a company known for sustainable agriculture, created a new type of soybeans which have been genetically modified to not be affected by their herbicide product Roundup . A farmer will then grow the soybeans which will only require one application of the weed killer instead of multiple applications, which will in turn reduce the production cost and limit the dangers of agricultural waste run off. Crops have even been modified to resist diseases such as blight, grey mold, bunts, and powdery mildew. These are diseases which either kill the crops or stunt their growth. By using GM

As one of the main symbols of the French Revolution, the guillotine not only represented, but also delivered death. Since the guillotine was in use for over 200 years, it saw much destruction and took many lives. The guillotine has had other machines like it that were just as deadly but with different names. The guillotine was fashioned from the idea of two other decapitation machines (Andrews). One of them is the Halifax Gibbet. The Decreasing Value Of Production The purpose of this section is to analyze the decreasing value of the production in frequency between the three types of the bigram syntactic sequences and the three types of the trigram syntactic sequences in order to test Hypothesis 2 which was proposed for this study. Hypothesis 2 denotes that, in the learner s corpus, as compared to the reference corpora, the production rate of the articles is lower in the NPs which have an adjective preceding a noun(Art + Adj + N) than noun phrases which have no preceding adjective (Art + N), The procedure of the analysis is to compare per million normalized frequency of the three types of the bigram syntactic sequences and the three types of the trigram syntactic sequences within the same group and across different groups. Based on the results of the raw production frequency of the bigram and trigram syntactic sequences ( the+N , a+N , and an+N vs. a + N , a + Adj + N , and an + Adj + N ), the raw production counts were normalized per 1,000,000 for inter language comparison between the learner corpus and the reference corpus. This would also make it easier for the family to focus on getting a job because they would not have to worry about losing their home as well. I would think that it would be a horrible thing to be told Oh, you lost your job, but here we can now take your home from you . This would also make it difficult to fix the foreclosure crisis. Something has to give to help this situation get better, why not have people start working together for the good of the situation instead of against each other for themselves. Many of the character s in Austen s Mansfield Park are overly interested in the idea of improving themselves, and through this Austen gives the reader an insight into each characters wealth and estate. By doing this Austen is allowing the reader an understanding of her characters social position and therefore an assumption into their ideas. The patriarchal structure of society allocates a distinct relationship between the inequality prevalent between male and females, placing women in a secondary and submissive position within society allows men to remain dominant and in control of the very society women exist in. an example of this in Austen s Mansfield park can be seen in the character of Sir Thomas as the head of the family he is responsible for guiding and protecting his family, this role which he plays is portrayed within the novel as a necessity. His position within the family allows him to form the female members in a way in which he believes to be proper, virtuous and morally correct. By placing this character in her novel Austen is alluding to Wollstonecraft s idea of women being reared t suit the needs and attitudes of the society around them, in order for them to gain a comfortable place in society through the prospect of marriage. When Sir Thomas Bertram is absent from the domestic home it soon becomes clear that Austen has calculated this absence to highlight the reliance upon men within society in general.

The idea that episodic memory can influence one s behavior relates to the concept of how long term memory is connected to working memory. In my revision process, I tried to focus more on the overall motive for my two main characters. For example, I added the motivation for Jerry and Christopher to open an ice cream parlor. This helped with my revisionof plot and main conflict because the two characters did not have enough money for the down payment on the open space. As a result, they decide to rob a bank in order to get the money for the payment. Another thing I tried to work on during my revision was the characterization of my two main characters. The two characters are, indeed, stupid. However, my goal was to make their appearance a little different and they way they spoke different. An example of my use of characterization is when Christopher speaks. For example, Christopher is very goofy like Jerry. However, he has a small sense of responsibility/wisdom. In the car, he is the one to have a notebook with all the information on the vacant space and bank. Moreover, he is the one that starts to become serious when he fights the hostage in the bank. Although both of the characters are stupid, Christopher s characteris what keeps the guys going. Without Chris, Jerry would be clueless. We can see Jerry s characterization through his actions. Jerry does not think anything through. For instance, in the bank, he brings in business cards with both their names on them. This is something stupid

(Kaplan, 2008) This number is way too high and CEO s salaries should be decreased to help further other parts of the company. The success of a company should be the company s top priority and they should not be putting such a large amount of money into their CEO s salary. • 39. Essay on Legalization of Prostitution Prostitution, considered one of the oldest professions in the world, was legal until 1915 when most states passed laws making it illegal. One of the main reasons for the prohibition of prostitution was to keep soldiers out of the brothels so they would stay focused on the war. After WWII, lawmakers left the prohibition laws in place instead of repealing them. Prostitutionshould be legal, regulated, and taxed. This would increase the quality of policeprotection, reduce waste in the judicial system, decrease the spread of sexually transmitted diseases, and increase federal tax revenue. By legalizing and regulating the act of prostitution, the spread of sexually transmitted diseases (STD s) will decrease. Opponents of legalization... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The legalization of prostitution will increase tax revenue by collecting taxes from the legal brothels. The State of Nevada does not collect taxes from the brothels but the separate counties do. The counties collect licensing fees, property taxes, and liquor licensing fees. Some counties get as much as 25 percent of their business fees from brothels. Lyon County, home to the famous Moonlite Bunnyranch, will collect $316,000 in brothel business fees and $25,000 in permit fees next year (Associated Press). In all ten counties combined, over twelve million dollars was collected from legal prostitution for the 2014 fiscal year (Associated Press). The federal government also collects income tax from the prostitutes and from the brothels. Estimates show there to be over 500,000 prostitutes working illegally in the United States. The government could tax those 500,000 men and women if they were working legally in brothels. The average prostitute working legally in Nevada earns approximately $160,000 to $180,000 a year. The taxes for that amount of income are on average $35,000. The federal government could generate an additional $17.5 million a year in just income tax revenue by legalizing prostitution. The U.S. government is in a financial crisis, the revenue generated by legalizing prostitution could help alleviate some of that burden. Each state spends over ten million dollars every year enforcing

One day when they are having tea time, John leaves his laptop open with his Facebook account on the screen while he goes to the toilet. Debbie unintentionally reads John s private messages on his Facebook account and she discovers that John has developed a relationship with another person that she does not recognise. In harsh words, he has been cheating on Debbie. INTRODUCTION Culture is some kind of arts. Dahl s (2001) argued that culture is dynamic and constantly changing. There are two aspects of culture which are material and non material. Houses, computers and physical structures are some examples of the material culture while non material culture is the facts, skills and understanding that you have gained through learning or experience. Other example of this would be the feeling that something is definitely true or definitely exists such as religious belief. According to Williams (1976), culture is reflected as a way of life, activities, beliefs and customs practised by an individual, a group or a society. They developed themselves from the aspects of intellectuality, spirituality and aesthetically. Seven functions of culture according to Mazrui (1996) are communication, perception, identity, value systems, motivation, stratification and production and consumption. We have moved from the days of chalkboards, to whiteboards, to interactive whiteboards. Our students seem to be more computer savvy than their teachers. Home telephones are starting to become a thing of the past, and cell phones have turned into mini computers. Technological geniuses have even tried to eliminate books by creating electronic books, for example the Kindle and Nook. I believe that in order for our students to be successful in today s workplace, computer literacy is a necessity. My philosophy on technology is this, in order for us and our students to be competitive in today s workforce, we must be sure to educate our students on how to properly use it. The most commonly used form of technology, in our classrooms, is the computer. In order for the computers to be used correctly, and computer time to be used effectively students must adhere to the guidelines set in place. The following guidelines, from Betty Kistler would be great to post in at the computer stations in the classroom; (1)Keep your hands off the keyboard and mouse until you know what we re doing. Analyzing her early history can give a person a look into the societal trends and culture of the late 1950 s and early 1960 s. There is evidence of fashion innovations in Barbie s wardrobe. Also, one can see the perception of females by society, such as what they should look like, how they should act and dress, as well as what their future goals could be. The following essay follows Barbie s history from 1959 to 1963, covering her development, her appeal to children, and her existence as a cultural artifact of the time period. America s Reaction Ruth Handler realized that pretending about the future was a part of the growing up process. While she watched her daughter, Barbara (who Barbie is named after), playing with paper dolls, Handler formulated the idea of creating an adult doll. This was not necessarily a new idea because there were adult fashion dolls, such as Cissy and Miss Revlon, which were on the market. The phenomenon behind Barbie was that she was an affordable toy that had those same grown up accessories as the other adult dolls. As soon as Barbie was introduced to the public, her mature body horrified many adult females. Mothers said they would not allow their child to play with Barbie because they were wary of her sex appeal. Mattel conducted a study with mothers and daughters before they introduced Barbie. • 44. The Negative Effects Of Media Multitasking And Its Effects... 1. The key issue which pertains to child development in this article is the negative effects which multitasking has on kids brains and their ability to store long term memories. Many children and teens have the overly inflated idea that they can attend to multiple things at once and still pay attention to homeworkor a teacher talking in class. Multitaskingin general is not harmful but when it comes to children multitasking while they are learning, it has the potential for the biggest negative effect (Paul, 2013). In Paul s (2013) article, there is research presented by the Kaiser Family Foundation which indicated that a third of the individuals who were surveyed stated that they used other media outlets at the same time as they were studying or doing homework. Media multitaskingwhile learning has the most potential to have negative downsides because it is impairing the storing of the long term memories necessary to recall said information later. In other studies, researchers have recorded the large increase of negative effects which took place when children multitask while studying. The most important thing for parents to do is remember that their children will media multitask and it s okay. Just make sure that when it comes to homework that they put everything aside and focus on what s in front of them (Roberts, 2013). 2. In the research presented in Berk (2018), it is seen that multitasking considerably reduces learning capabilities. Children who are multitasking

Thank you for that kind introduction Judy, I am delighted to be a guest of your show this week! As you heard from Judy, I will be looking at a poetry movement from the 16th Century, however my particular area of focus today is on the renowned Metaphysical poet, John Donne, and his poem titled Woman s Constancy. Those of you who are aware of Donne and his works will know of the challenging perspectives his poems held towards the common ideologies of marriage, life and death, religion and love, proposed by the Church of England. Stylistically, Donne s poems often present disputes between two lovers, his satirical and sometimes even sceptical interpretation of love and relationships, and also his ties to his faith and religion (Locklear, 2014). Donne s visionary works led him to become a sole initiator of the metaphysical style of poetry. The ideologies of the time in which he was writing impacted his perspectives greatly, but also provided a stimulating and solid viewpoint from his

It is referred to as thinking about thinking or the monitoring and control of thought (Martinez 696). During the last decades, topic of metacognition gets more and more attention from psychologists, educators, and students. The incoming data, supporting the significance of metacognitive abilities and their development, serves as a base for implementation of the teaching of metacognition. Metacognition can and should be taught in the conditions of the modern educational system. Metacognition plays a major role both in individual s academic and everyday life. In the article The Power of Reflection , Stephen Fleming agrees with Flavell s definition of metacognition as a key to educational success (2). Many studies have proved that highly cultivated metacognitive abilities enhance individual s academic performance and lead to academic success (Jacobson 5). Furthermore, Fleming argues that metacognition, being applied in a wide range of the situations, turns out to be a vital survival skill (7). Therefore, metacognition needs to be cultivated in a person through different approaches and techniques. Moreover, continuous work on the metacognitive development in both academic and everyday life is the only way to master and gain proficiency of metacognitive

However, given the number of contexts that are influencing students to pursue a postsecondary degree, one s transformative process can vary significantly from person to person. As a result, colleges must continue to work to develop a greater awareness of the students they are serving, while also considering valuable initiatives that will foster their growth and development. Although I was also undecided about what I wanted to study, I also wanted to attend a school with a rigorous academic curriculum, despite the fact that I applied to mostly safety and target schools. However, when thinking about the issues impacting many communities with high concentrations of prospective first generation college students, it is probable that many families are unable to schedule visits to colleges and universities outside of their neighborhood. As a result, universities must be mindful of the personal issues facing families with first generation college students and consider traveling into the communities these students live in to give them the opportunity to learn more about the different colleges available to them (Lowery Hart Pacheco, 2011). However, I believe that the venue of the event could affect the kinds of students who are willing attend these kinds of programs. For instance, although I had not mentioned this in my StoryCorp, I had the opportunity to attend an event similar to this as I started to narrow down which schools I was most interested in. However, because the venue had been located at a luxury hotel, I wonder if this space might have seemed

  • 50. The Fascination Of War Literature War is full of death and destruction, it is full of a lot of things including literature. In war there are no rules, the same is for literature there are no rules the possibility of what to write about is endless. My fascination of war truly began when my grandfather started to open up about what he went through in the Vietnam War. Most soldiers who have went to war and have come back are not the same as when they left. It is very hard for them to talk about what they have been through while at war, but when they talk one should listen because they may never be able to have the strength to tell that story again. One may not realize how much it takes for a Veteran to tell a story of what they went through, because as they are telling the story they are re living the story mentally. Most soldiers are not capable of telling stories without having to go through counseling. In most cases if a soldier was to try to tell a story without counseling, they will freak out thinking they are back in the place that brought them the trauma. In today s world it is mandatory for Veterans to receive counseling to help them with their trauma instead of trying to figure it out their selves. Therefore, war literature is very important because of the meaning behind it all. We should give respect to war literature, especially if it comes from a solider himself. When one should read about war literature they should take into consideration of how hard it might have been for the person to talk

With the rising importance of GFP fusion proteins and other recombinant vectors, the metal affinity of Histidine helps to make the proteinpurification process easier (Lilius et al., 1991). It is of strong interest to molecular biologists because of the strong light emission of 508 nm under UV light. UV wavelengths excite the fluorophore, contained in the Ser Tyr Gly sequence near GFP s N terminus, and a bright green fluorescence is given off as a result (Niwa et al., 1996). GFP can be successfully tagged to many proteins without disturbing their function (Feilmeier et al., 2000). This allows scientists to exploit the protein for its usefulness in marking proteins in vivo. GFP tagging has many applications. It can be used to study gene expression by inserting gfp after a promotor in the plasmid, so that if expressed, the colony expressing the gene of interest can be identified by a green fluorescence of GFP under UV light (Feilmeier et al., 2000). Specific cellular organelles can be tagged, such as the endoplasmic reticulum, to visualize protein localization and networking inside the living cell. GFP can also be used to monitor cofactor levels within a cell in real time. For example, when GFP was tagged to proteins that contain a receptor sensitive to Ca2+, they interacted in a way so that the fluorescence of the fusion protein was proportional to the calcium ion concentration with less than a 1 second lag in the cell (Romoser et al., 1997). Throughout the decades, GFP mutants have been created to give brighter emission and different wavelengths. Researchers can track separate cell pathways at the same time, since different proteins can
