Bubonic Plague
During 1348 1349, a devastating sickness swept over all of Western Europe that
wiped out about half of the population. The Black Death, also known as The Plague
and the Bubonic Plague, killed thousands over the span of two summers. The Black
Death was caused by the bacteria Y. Pestis, which normally lives dormant in a flea s
stomach. However, when a flea bites a rat, the rat becomes infected, which
eventually leads to a human being infected. Since rats had a high abundance in 1348
1349, the disease was very easily spread to humans, where it then became airborne
(pneumonic), bubonic, or spread throughout the blood, also known as systemic. (The
Black Death).
The hard hit of The Black Death led to a decrease in available workers. Many of the
workers had died due to The Plague, so employers were struggling to find workers for
their land and shops. The laborer shortages forced employers to improve their
working conditions and increase their pay wages, which was an extensive plus for the
serfs. Those who were originally tied to one employer or piece of land could then
choose who to work for or where to work. This was a ... Show more content on

Many people of the Catholic religion believed that God could stop the spread of the
disease, or even heal their loved ones. However, when The Plague continued to
wreak havoc across Europe, many people turned against their religion. There was
also a large decrease of priests that had died due to The Plague, so the amount of
churches in many areas simply ceased. The Plague also caused a decline in the
Jewish population, however, the disease itself wasn t what hurt them. Because
Jewish prejudice was already so high, the Jews were looked at as scapegoats. Much
of the population accused the Jews of poisoning the water wells, making them
responsible for The Plague. Although this reasoning is highly unlikely, much of the
Jewish population fled to Poland and Russia to get away from the
Raphaels Bible Vs. Michelangelo s Sistine Chapel
Raphael s Bible compared to Michelangelo s Sistine Chapel
Arguing that Raphael s Bible was meant to physically and theoretically fill a spare
gap in the Vatican s representation of the bible requires deepening our appreciation of
the Sistine Chapel. Indeed, one could think that there is no big difference between
these two masterpieces since Michelangelo also depicts the Old Testament:
nevertheless, it is by looking at the choice of scenes and stories represented in both
stories that the differences emerge. In Raphael s Bible, the artist voluntary chose to
avoid the violent and degrading scenes of the Old Testament: the drunkenness of
Noah (see fig. 10) the mockery of his own son, his daughters sleeping with him, that
were on the other hand
Relationship Between White And White Populations
As the three largest cities in the United States, New York, Los Angeles, and
Chicago are also epicenters of precipitous segregation. Even with the passage of
federal law to curtail segregation and promote more integrated communities,
conditions have only improved minimally if at all between 1980 and 2000. In New
York, the indices of dissimilarity between different races have remained constant
over this time period. Between white and black populations, for example, the index
of dissimilarity only ranges between 82.8 and 83.5. This signifies very minute and
insignificant changes within a 20 year period, and such changes even indicate
worsening conditions. Similarly, when using this index to examine the relationship
between whites and Hispanics, segregation has increased by three percentage points
between 1980 and 2000. Therefore, New York is an urban center that has seen
relatively unchanged racial segregation, and any changes mainly reveal exacerbated
conditions. Los Angeles, on the other hand, seems to show greater changes in
dissimilarity among different races. When considering segregation between black
and white populations, the index of dissimilarity decreased from 85 in 1980 to 71.5
in 2000. This is significantly greater than the fractional change observed in New York
City. Likewise, dissimilarity between whites and Asians has decreased from 51.7 to
44.9. Yet, Los Angeles shares one similar trend with New York. From 1980 to 2000,
the index of segregation between
Essay on Codes of Practice
Ethics and values apply to our personal and professional lives. Ethics are a notion
of one s actions, which originates from ideology of an individual doing what is
right not wrong. According to the dictionary ethics is the branch of philosophy
dealing with values relating to human conduct, with respect to the rightness and
wrongness of certain actions and to the goodness and badness of the motives and
ends of such actions. These beliefs are amassed to help a person determine how their
actions will be carried out. Ideals can be applied as values to a person s way of
living. There are people that view values as a personal code, and see them as a
personal indication of their beliefs. Our professional values and ethicscome from

Consumers often associate company ethics with brand quality. Many codes also
side with laws, for example as listed in the AANA Code of Ethics Advertising or
Marketing Communications shall comply with Commonwealth law and the law
of the relevant State or Territory. Within advertising codes of practice can be use to
avoid complaints being made against a commercial after it has been printed and/or
aired on radio or television. They are also in place to protect consumers from
issues that are not suitable for all audiences, but it is impossible to please all
consumers as everybody has different views. As is said by Jones and Van Putten
(2008, p.98) In many cases, there is not a definitive right and wrong; for example,
it is often the case that we are dealing with controversial products or sensitive
behaviours (e.g., contraceptives and sexual practices) and/or two principles which
are seen to be right by different groups are in conflict (e.g., pro life vs.pro choice).
Differing from a code of practice is a code of Ethics is a company s voluntary belief

Vacations
Cruises appeal to many travelers because they are considered all inclusive
vacations. Pay one price and receive accommodations, meals, entertainment, and
transportation between island and port destinations. But once onboard, many
cruisers find themselves shelling out hundreds of additional dollars for shore
excursions, alcoholic beverages, and gratuities. What happened to their supposedly
all inclusive vacation? Many land based resorts also refer to themselves as all
inclusive, yet [the properties offer a different set of included amenities. As I look at

Adventure is limited to basketball, shuffleboard or the all access ship pool. Cruise
ships look boring and a person would float along. The land base resorts are not
bound by the imagination of the cruise director. Patrons of resorts can plan (with the
help of a concierge) the ultimate vacation based on their individual preferences. You
can hand pick your own adventure from island exploration, deep sea fishing,
catamaran sails, guided island tours, mountain biking, dune buggy off roading
excursions, dolphin encounters, scuba diving, horseback riding and more. The
choices are endless and some are included in the package. The not so adventurous
can take relaxing strolls alone the beach, play volleyball, paddle boat, surf or other
less strenuous activities. As for night life, patrons can choose to party on the resort,
attend All White parties, talent shows, beach parties, bonfires or listen to live bands.
The more daring could party with the locals to experience rich, authentic Caribbean
culture first hand.
All inclusive, whether land resort or cruises, are the preferred way to vacation and
provide a great value for the cost. Depending on the client s budget and time
constraints, cruises are wonderful getaways but land resorts offer greater variety and
excitement. The decision depends on rather a person loves land or water. In
conclusion, the abundance that an all inclusive trip has to offer will leave a
vacationer with life long
Analysis Of The Book Zeitoun By Dave Eggers
I am currently a Junior at Mills High School and I m also enrolled in the AP
Language and Composition class. For our summer assignment, we were assigned to
read Zeitoun by Dave Eggers, which recounts the story of a Muslim American man
named Abdulrahman Zeitoun who remained in New Orleans during 2005 s deadly
Hurricane Katrina. While trapped in the city, Zeitoun paddles in his canoe in the
flooded streets aiding those who are in danger; however, Zeitoun is suddenly
arrested under accusations of being affiliated with an Al Qaeda Terrorist Cell.
Throughout the novel, Zeitoun is portrayed as a gentle and compassionate man who
puts his own life on the line to save others. Through Zeitoun s actions he defies the
harsh stereotypes that surround Muslim Americans following 9/11. While Zeitoun
certainly redefines the views of the reader on Muslim Americans and portrays a real
struggle for Muslims in our America today; would you still appreciate this story s
message and meaning if I informed you that the real Abdulrahman Zeitoun was a man
known for committing domestic violenceto his wife? Mr. Zeitoun has indeed abused
his wife and has been under trial several times and was convicted of domestic
violenceand later faced allegations of hiring attacks on his wife, Kathy. This
controversy divided my class into two distinct advocates: some of my classmates
support Zeitoun to be remain in the AP Language and Composition curriculum.
While others, including myself, agree that by reading,
Reflection On The Book Night
What would it do to a person to go to a concentration camp, see the horrible things,
and come out alive? This book, Night, is about Eliezer Wiesel, who is both the
main character and the author. Elie s book is a memorial about his experience in
Hitler s concentration camps, what he went through, and how he survived. This
paper is going to be about Eliezer s horrific experience and the ways that it changed
him. One of the horrific moments that Eliezer went through is the time the small boy
got hung and it took half an hour for him to die. But the third rope was still moving:
the child, too light, was still breathing... And so remained for more than half an
hour... (Weisel 65) This changed him a lot because he knew how brutal the world...

An event very related to his feeling after his father s death was when he saw the
mob of people fighting over the bread and he saw a child kill his own father just
for a piece of bread: His eyes lit up, a smile, like a grimace, illuminated his ashen
face. And was immediately extinguished. A shadow had lain down beside him.
And this shadow threw itself over him. Stunned by the blows, the old man was
crying: Mier, my little Mier! Don t you recognize me... You re killing your father...
I have bread... for you too... for you too... He collapsed. But his fist was still
clutching a small crust. He wanted to raise it to his mouth. But the other threw
himself on him. The old man mumbled something, groaned, and died. Nobody
cared. His son searched him, took the crust of bread, and began to devour it.
(Weisel 101) The boy killed his father without any sign of grief or hesitation just so
that he could have a simple piece of bread. Eliezer knew he could never do
something like this to his father, but he was thinking about just letting him die, so
that he wouldn t have to deal with him. Even with this thought he was able to resist
the urge, unlike the Rabbi s son. ...Separation to free himself of a burden... (Weisel
91) The Rabbi s son had left his father so that he would have better chances of
survival. These events led Eliezer to realize how people, including himself, could
change while trying to survive inside one of Hitler s concentration camps. These three

Satire As A Satire
Comedy is a fickle medium. It is hard for a comedian to predict how an audience or
individuals will react to a joke. Satire is even more uncertain due the medium s
socio political nature. The purpose of satire can be misconstrued due to its
tendency to obscure or simplify the point it is trying to make for the sake of a joke.
In Mathew Bevis Taking Liberties , he argues that individuals with different world
views can interpret a satirical piece in very different ways. In this paper, I shall use
the satirical sketch A Politically Correct Minute by the Royal Canadian Air Farce to
argue that satirebecomes and ineffective tool in conveying a political message due to
Bevis argument that the viewer shapes the meaning of the sketch. The creator might
have tried to establish a moral high ground, but it is hard to defend due to the
medium being reliant on the viewers sensibilities over the creator s intent, thus
making us unsure if a moral high ground actually exists. The Canadian satirical
comedytroupe, The Royal Canadian Air Farce, released the A Politically Correct
Minute sketch in October 2001. This sketch was a reaction to a petition created that
year by the feminist organization, The Famous Five Foundation. The organization

source of news (Speltz 2015). Critical thinking and problem solving becomes a moot
point. (Grabmeier
What Is Carl Von Clauseewitz s Influence On The Nature Of
War
Military theorists Carl von Clausewitz and Baron Antoine Henri de Jomini both
fought during the Napoleonic Era. However, their experiences created completely
different theories of the nature of war. Because Clausewitz understood that war is not
static or systematic and that commanders and soldiers influence the outcome of war,
Clausewitz best distinguishes the nature of war, specifically through his concepts of
strategy and morale. This will be illustrated through the events and actions taken
during Operation ANACONDA.
Operation ANACONDA was a fierce and bloody battle between U.S. Special
Operation Forces and al Qaeda insurgents on the Takur Ghar Mountains of
Afghanistan. The operational environment, especially the terrain and lack of
intelligence, played a significant role during this military engagement. According to
SOF magazine, Intelligence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Clausewitz, Strategy is the use of the engagement for the purpose of
war. The strategist must therefore define an aim for the entire operational side of the
war that will be in accordance with its purpose (177). From the beginning, national
level strategy did not support Clausewitz definition for the purpose of war during
Operation ANACONDA. Donald Rumsfeld the Secretary of Defense at the time, was
determined to modernize and transform the Department of Defense into light, lean,
and expeditionary forces. This would prove to have an impact on the strategy and
overall campaign in Afghanistan. To complicate matters even more, the nation had
experienced one of the most devastating terrorist attacks in United States history and
the national level strategy was shifting from the war in Afghanistan to fighting
terrorism in Iran. Moreover, national level strategy hindered the purpose of war such
as the use of conventional warfare as opposed to U.S. Special Force Operations and
unity of command during Operation
Was Captain Smith Responsible For The Titanic
Do you know who is responsible for the sinking of the Titanic? Well if you don t it
s a very important thing to learn because, this is part of our history. I believe
Captain Smith is responsible for this sinking in 1912 because, he was entirely
responsible for the control of the ships wheel. Although you may think Thomas
Andrews the designer of the Titanic Is responsible for the sinking, I believe Captain
Smith is responsible. I believe this because he ignored the seven iceberg warnings.
On a result of ignoring these seven warnings while the ocean was very calm, no one
spotted the iceberg, they hit but Smith didn t take caution. So it s Captain Smith s
fault! Captain Smith is responsible because, he never slowed the Titanic down. If

Leo Tolstoy s Handji Murat Essay
Hadji Murat, Tolstoy s second book with the Caucasus as its setting can be
considered a work of historical fiction that is a beautiful tale of resistance, and a
window into not only the Caucasian War of the mid nineteenth century, but also the
culture of the Russian Empire during this period. As a work of fiction the reader
must be wary of depictionsof actual persons such as Tsar Nicholas I, whom Tolstoy
was not enamored with, to say the least, but many insights about the period and its
people can be gleaned from the story. The novel is one of great contrasts between
Chechens and Russians and also of what life was like during this time.

This was the policy of the Russian General Tsitsianov, whose brutal policy of ruling
the Caucasus through fear was a major cause in the mountaineers rebellion.
The protagonist of the novel, Hadji Murat, became caught between the two despotic
leaders Nicholas I, and Shamil. Murat is eventually destroyed because of this. In
Hadji Murat Tolstoy depicts the two despots as sharing some similar characteristics.
Tsar Nicholas I is depicted in a most unfavorable manner. He delights in causing
terror to those around him, in one case an army officer and his female companion
at a masquerade (Tolstoy p71). In the same scene Nicholas is portrayed as a
lecherous man, having liaisons with various women (Tolstoy pp70 71). This
portrayal of the Tsar is problematic as he is considered by historians to have been a
family man and devoted to his wife, with whom sexual intercourse was impossible
due to her health problems (Moss p357). Tolstoy obviously finds this unacceptable.
Nicholas is stupid and egotistical as well, taking credit for the successes of the raids
on Chechen villages when he had advocated a completely different policy. Tolstoy
also accuses Tsar Nicholas I as not being a serious Christian when he depicts him
saying his prayers without attaching any

Essay on The Decline of British Military Innovation
World War I was perhaps the greatest catalyst for military innovation in modern
history. The speed in which the doctrinal, technical and tactical changes were
developed and implemented was astounding. At the end of World War I, Britain
was at the forefront of doctrinal and technological innovation in the field of armor
and aircraft warfare. The factors which caused Britain to lose their innovative edge
in these areas prior to World War II was the 10 year rule policy, operational attitude
of the British Army, and an emphasis on land based aviation. At the conclusion of
World War I, Britain had the largest navy

The ten year policy was used by the British Government to continually decrease
defense spending until the policy was ended in 1932. The second factor that stifled
the innovation of the British military is the operational attitude of the military
leadership. The British military failed to study the lessons learned from World War I
until 1932. This failure to study the battles of the war in a timely manner resulted in
the development of inferior doctrine and training concepts. If the lessons would have
been learned earlier than 1932, substantial changes could have been made to the
British doctrine and professional military education system prior to 1932. The
structural, leadership and cultural changes to the British Army after World War I
contributed to a pervasive disinterest in innovation. The ideas and attitudes of the
military leadership remained those of the prewar army. Those who seemed to be
innovators were outcast and the leadership of the British Army did not take their
ideas seriously. Between 1923 and 1928, the British Army conducted numerous field
exercises to determine the proper use of mechanized or armored forces. Although
some shortfalls were identified in these maneuvers, the overall potential of armored
forces was evident. These tests identified the tactical advantages of firepower and
maneuver of armored forces and the considerable logistical and
Personification In The Three Ravens
The Three Ravens is an english folk ballad, which was first printed in a song book
Melismata compiled by Thomas Ravenscroft. It was published in the year 1611.
It is a ballad about three ravens who take up a scavenger bird conversation about
where and what they should eat for breakfast that morning.
In the ballad The Three Ravens Thomas Ravenscroft uses personification and
colourful imagery to discuss the ballad, and in the ballad the reader is led to expect
something, but we discover a whole new theme in the ballad which is very interesting
to know about. And the Thomas Ravenscroft uses a non scavenger as a scavenger bird
in the ballad.
There were three ravens that sat on a tree. (Ravenscroft,Thomas, The Three
Ravens (1611) Ballad provided by the instructor). According to the poet he says
that there were three ravens who sat on a tree They were as black as they might be.
(Ravenscroft,Thomas, The Three Ravens (1611) Ballad provided by the instructor).
As we all know that all ravens are black. When one of the raven asks the other
ravens what is their breakfast for today.
Down in yonder green fields, There lies a knight slain under his shield.
(Ravenscroft,Thomas, The Three Ravens (1611) Ballad provided by the
instructor). one of the raven tells the other ravens that our breakfast is the green
field, were lies a knight who is dead. And the knight is being guarded by a shield. In
this ballad the ravens are considered as scavengers which is wrong, because as we all
people know that ravens are not scavengers and they mostly feed other small insects
and worms and they also feed on eggs of other smaller birds.
In this ballad The Three Ravens the ravens are considered as wild birds who feed
on dead organisms. But ravens as we know are not tame animals as they do not
welcome any human presence near them but they also do not depend on dead meat
as given in the ballad. In the Ballad The Three Ravens the ravens are mostly given a
character that is suitable for a scavenger like vulture.
Down there comes a fallow doe, As great with your as she might go.
(Ravenscroft,Thomas, The Three Ravens (1611) Ballad provided by the instructor).
Now in the ballad there is a magical touch where there is a lady who is

4.The market for textbooks is constantly changing. As the demand for certain
features in textbooks increases each supplier in the supply chain s role will change
and evolve. Authors need to be aware of the needs of the universities; books need
to be concise yet full of information. Authors continuously need to update data and
information in all textbooks. Text editors need to keep up with the authors and the
ever changing data and information provided to students in textbooks; they need
to be able to adapt to other forms of text as well such as e books. As technology
evolves as does the need for better graphics in textbooks. Many students are visual
learners and graphic designers need to be aware of this. We have certainly come a
long way in terms of graphics in textbooks and the need will only keep increasing.
Printing companies also need to be kept in the know, and possibly develop new
technology to make it easier to predict the demand for each textbook and even the
possibility of e books being the dominant form of text. As the industry grows and
changes as will the roles of each supplier and everyone needs to look toward the
future and realize the changes that are happening.

The Future of Spaceflight and Why It Should Be Private
Essay
High above our beloved watery globe, on the shore of the cosmic ocean, a winged
spacecraft approaches a gigantesque space station pirouetting in the vast dark. The
pilots of this vessel make use of flat screen computer displays to match their rotation
with that of the massive orbital outpost. As the shuttle spins, a logo of the world s
largest airline, emblazoned on its side, comes into view.
This is not the present, but it was to be the past. A scene from Stanley Kubrick s
1968 science fiction epic, 2001 A Space Odyssey, it was lauded at the time for its
realistic portrayal of a human future in space (*1). Now, ten years after this future
failed to manifest, spaceflight is still a privilege reserved only for the most powerful

The Obama Administration s policy of support for the COTS program and apparent
lack of support for NASA led manned exploration has aggravated many. Criticism
includes a bemoaning of the transformation of America s once proud NASA into a
shell of an organization with no git r done capability of its own.
The continued launching of spacecraft by NASA and other national space
organizations however, as this essay intends to demonstrate, is an antiquity that is
nearing the end of its usefulness. The appropriation of space launch capabilities by
the private industry is fundamental to increased accessibility to space; furthermore,
it is essential for the long term health of the scientific pursuits to which NASA is
dedicated. The national space programs of Earth have, so far, failed to provide a
reasonable alternative to the obscene costs incurred through the crude launching of
payloads into orbit atop massive and failure prone chemical rockets. While no
alternative to the use of chemical rocketry has yet been proven, one for reducing its
price is just getting off the ground. The increasing privatization of the launch industry
has already seen dramatic reductions in the cost of lifting a satellite from the surface
of the Earth to LEO.
One private organization, SpaceX, has seen enormous success in this area. The

Essay On The Chocolate War
The Chocolate War is a novel about a freshman boy named Jerry Renault going
against the normalcy of school life and deciding not to sell the chocolate bars.
Jerry was given this assignment by a boy named Archie Costello. Archie is a
member of The Vigils, a group that makes assignments for a certain person or group
of people to do based on who they are and how they act. The odd thing about Archie
telling Jerry not to sell the chocolates is that Archie earlier told Brother Leon that The
Vigils would support the chocolate sellingactivity.
Brother Leon and the other students are clearly shocked by this, due to a student
never refusing to do so before. But eventually people realize that it was an
assignment given by The Vigils. At first Brother... Show more content on

Archie makes plans to get back at Jerry and get some kind of reward out of all the
help he put into the chocolate sales. He creates an assembly where only students can
participate to raffle off the tickets. The raffle is a special one though which puts
Jerry in a fight against the school thug, Emile Janza. Students who buy raffle
tickets get to write a boxing move on them, which Jerry has to do to Janza, or vice
versa, and where to hit them. During the fight, Jerry and Janza are hitting each
other as the papers say to. Janza is a lot stronger, and his punches have much more
power even though Jerry is able to land a few good hits of his own into the fight. A
member of The Vigils draws a raffle ticket that says for Janza to hit Jerry in the
groin. Jerry, however, blocks the punch, and the fight becomes more violent. Janza
decides not to follow the rules of the fight, and repeatedly punches Jerry. Finally, once
Jerry falls to the ground, the lights in the stadium turn off. Brother Jacques is there to
stop the fight. Brother Leon is there too, and has been watching from the beginning
of the fight until now. He makes sure that Archie is not punished for the
Cord Blood Research Papers
Trash to Treasure
The Pinterest world has changed the way we view trash. Things once tossed in the
garbage now hang on walls and adorn porches. Old milk cans, wooden pallets and
chipped mason jars now have a hundred new uses. These recycling trends that have
been born this century don t end at making living rooms more stylish, but extend to
improving and saving lives. Technology is emerging to harvest once discarded after
birth and preserving it for research and treatment. Cord blood banking is not only
more ethical, but more efficient than its competitors and is therefore the future of
stem cell research.

A limited amount of stem cells can be extracted from after birth, but these few cells
can mean a longer or improved life for someone (Bergman). In addition, people
believe that harvesting cord blood cells steals the cells from the child. The umbilical
cord is cut and clamped just like a typical delivery (CariCord). Delayed clamping,
in which the cord is left attached to drain the blood back into the baby, still allows
the afterbirth to be donated. The science behind cord blood banking is still
developing because these treatments have only been performed for a little over ten
years and the only way to overcome that is to move forward with research (Stem

combatting serious neurological diseases. The science is young, but one out of

Corruption In The Great Gatsby
Success, formerly signifying the accomplishment of an aim or purpose, however, it
has become poisoned by the narcissism of humankind which redefines it as the state
of being financially superior to others. In F. Scott Fitzgerald s novel, The Great
Gatsby, the outlook on the American Dream during the 1920s was crafted through a
myriad of events and characters depicting this civil dilemma. By definition, the
American Dream is the belief that anyone, regardless of race, class, gender, or
nationality, can be successful in America (wealthy), if they exert the required effort
on their arduous journey. Having said that, the American Dream thus presents an
illusion of an American society that neglects issues such as: systemic racism,
misogyny, xenophobia, and income inequality. Furthermore, it also postulates a myth
of class equality, yet the reality could not be further from this. In the novel The Great
Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgeralddemonstrates how fantasies driven by materialistic
ideologies can lead to inevitable corruption and demoralization in society. Notably,
this is exhibited through the daily struggles of George and Myrtle Wilson, the
conspicuous bigotry of Tom and Daisy Buchanan as well as the ambition and passion
of Jay Gatsby.
Firstly, the characters George and Myrtle Wilson embody those who are pursuing
the American Dream and face the endless challenges of their harsh realities.
George owns an auto repair shop to collect profits while Myrtle pursues wealth and
status through her affair with Tom. With this in mind, it is evident that both are
disempowered due to the lack of money at their disposal. An example supporting
this is when Nick describes the region they live in: This is a valley of ashes...
which screens their obscure operations from your sight. (26). Instead of a bucolic
image of a regular farm, the beauty of the natural world has been transformed into a
horrible hellscape of gray ashes. Moreover, Nick describes the people living there
as ash gray men who swarm like insects, illustrating the grim lives of the lower
class labour workers who are barely surviving. Also, this displays how the rich are
disconnected from their source of wealth and are ignorant towards their privilege. The

Marx s Theory On Class Conflict And Society Essay
Since the french and industrial revolution in 18 century, the world had come to a
new era: capitalist society. Capitalism represents a big step forward in human
productive abilities compared with previous forms of society. Along with the
social development, there was a new group of people who was called the
sociologist who analyze and try to understand how this society works. Marx was
one of them and his ideas were influential. His theory mostly emphasis on class
conflict and the society from economic aspects. This essay will first analyze Marx s
theory in detail. Then I will explain how economy and social conflict related to Marx
s theory along with the role of these factors in the capitalist society.
Marx defined social class as the class which sets the scene and moves things forward.
He sometimes talked about there are only two classes: Bourgeoisie and proletariat,
the class in itself and the class for itself, sometimes talked about there are many
numbers of classes such as capitalist, working class and landowner. There is no
simple unambiguous, and universally accepted body of Marxist doctrine. As Bob
Jessop said, the thoughts of Marx in his life time were various and far ranging. In
general, Marx refers bourgeoisies as capitalists and they are major class in that
period leading into industrialization. And he thinks the petty bourgeoisie as middle
classes who cannot see themselves as part of class, only as individual. The last one,
the proletariat, was described by

Modernism In Modern Literature
The history of humanity is an extraordinary span of countless years that consists of
wonderful advancements, extremely significant developments, new constructions of
ideas, and astounding movements. Humans have continuously driven to develop new
ways of understanding the world and have tried reshaping the intricate perceptions of
the world throughout the course of time. While the entire past of humanity is full of
astonishing explorations and powerful events, only very few centuries could possibly
challenge the importance of the twentieth century. The early portion of the twentieth
century was a very crucial period of time that carried great momentum for multiple
revolutions across the globe, multiple wars, and major developments in constructing
the world. This influenced not only extravagant ways of thinking and understanding
new concepts, but also drove new movements of art and literature into cultures
everywhere. This gave ideas such as Surrealism, Naturalism, Futurism. Realism and
Romanticism the ability to thrive and reform the perceptions of literature as a whole.
However, one of the artistic key movements in the early twentieth century that shaped
literature today and made these other movements in literature possible is the
Modernist movement. Modernism was substantial in Europe throughout the early
twentieth century, sweeping the minds of many marvelous writers and artists such as
Virginia Woolf and James Joyce. These two authors are significant influences not just
Genetic and Environmental Factors of Intelligence Essay...
Genetic and Environmental Factors of Intelligence One of the most interesting and
controversial areas in behavioral genetics, human intelligence is currently assumed to
be subject to both genetic and environmental influences. While this assumption is
accepted by a majority of geneticists and behavioral scientists, there is great
disagreement on the degree of influence each contributes. Arguments for
environmental influences are compelling; at the same time there is growing evidence
that genetic influence on intelligence is significant and substantial (Eyesenck, 1998;
Mackintosh, 1998; Plomin, 1994; Steen, 1996). The purpose of this paper is to
explore the question: How is intelligence influenced by heredity and environment? ...

His concept involved the idea that certain mental tasks are appropriate to certain ages,
such as the ability to recite the names of the months: while expected of a ten year old,
such ability would be rare in a three year old. Binet quantified intelligence as the
Intelligence Quotient (IQ): the ratio of mental age to chronological age, multiplied by
100. Reasoning that low intelligence stemmed from improper development, Binet
envisioned the test as a first step in treatment: a diagnostic instrument used to detect
children with inadequate intelligence in order to treat them using mental orthopedics.
Binet argued forcefully against the idea that intelligence is fixed or innate: We must
protest and react against this brutal pessimism (Lewontin, Rose, Kamen, 1984).
However, those who translated his test into English tended to disagree, arguing that
the test measured an innate and immutable, genetically inherited characteristic. After
Binet s death in 1911, the Galtonian eugenicists assumed control, shifting the focus
firmly toward genetic explanations by insisting that differences in intelligence
between social classes and races were due to inherent genetic differences. Over time,
the tests were standardized to correspond to a priori conceptions of intelligence by
including items that correlated well with school performance. Test items that

Equipment managers may seem corny or inadequate, but without them it would be
difficult for your team to compete. According to the Athletic Equipment Managers
Association (AEMA) (What Is Certification, 2008), equipment managers purchase
equipment; fit equipment such as football helmets; checks, clean, and inspect
uniforms and equipment to reduce wear and risk of injury while preserving the life of
the equipment and garments as part of the budget management process; and establish
a comprehensive accountability system that includes inventory, reconditioning, and

FACTs of WA MU
Washington Mutual Bank, aka WA MU, was organized in September 1889 to help
provide funds for rebuilding Seattle after the great fire. Washington Mutual became
the largest thrift in the US, and one of its largest banks. From that beginning,
Washington Mutual has grown into financial services company that offered services
in mortgages, credit cards and retail landings. But if its rise was storied, its fall was
spectacular, ending in the largest bank failure in American history to date (The New
York Times, 2010). Sadly, Washington Mutual Bank, or WA MU, was seized on
Thursday, September 25, 2008.
In April 21, 1982, Washington Mutual acquired Murphey Favre, Inc. and

president in 1988 and chief executive officer in 1990 (The New York Times, 2010).
Kerry s leadership brought new strategies to the company. According to The New

The Regency Society During The Regency Period
During the Regency society, what made a man a true gentleman is still a confusing
matter for many Austenesque and Regency readers (Grace). Many of the 19th
century occupations have vanished because of changes in taste, socials customs, and
technological advances (Pool 235). While some of the men during the Regency
period were extremely wealthy, there were others that faced financial hardships
(Grace). Most of time, the road of apprenticeship often led to a successful life and
good fortune (Pool 240). The most gentlemanly professions during the Regency
period were the clergymen, lawyers, and army officers.
Many of the men during the Regency period that desired to keep their status as a
gentleman often went into a church profession (Grace). Many gentlemen that were
OxBridge graduates and younger brothers entered the clergy (Ray 189). For many
families that had a steady, guaranteed income, the church was a popular option for
them (Grace). There were two different types of clergyman, vicar and curate. While
being a clergyman required no strenuous physical labor, it did require a Honors
degree either from Oxford or Cambridge (Grace; Ray 189). For the most part, the
gentry class were the only ones that could actually afford a degree from Oxford or
Cambridge to become a clergyman (Ray 189). Another job opportunity in the church
included the priest. The priests during this time were respected by society mostly
because of their association with the church (Ray 189). In the novel,
Analysis Of The Play Hamilton
The play Hamilton by Lin Manuel Miranda brings the founding fathers back to life
with a lot of hip hop. It all started when Miranda, a writer, composer, and performer,
was asked to perform at the White House centered on the American experience. The
White House expected him to perform something based on his own Latin American
experience, but Miranda had something else in mind. Few months prior, Miranda was
on vacation with his girlfriend when he started to read a biography on Alexander
Hamiltonby Ron Chernow. Miranda was seized by the story of Hamilton. He was
instantly inspired to create a work chronicling Hamilton s life. He started to see
Hamilton s relentlessness, ambition, intelligence, and stubbornness through his own...

Monteiro states how she has seen the play, and loved it as a whole, but there were
many issues with how history was conveyed. Monteiro goes on to explain how the
play does a lot of a thing called Founders chic as a representational strategy. She
points out that the play tried to represent founders as relatable, cool guys. For
example, the Founders chic strategy downplayed the involvement of the Founding
Fathers in slavery. The play did mention how slavery existed, and how Alexander
Hamilton was in opposition to it, but we had no idea on how his attitude was when
he was a boy growing up in the Caribbean. Alexander Hamilton worked on slave
ship, making the chances that he was one favorable to it a possibility. Miranda s
point in contrast to that was to showcase the emotions rather than substance. He
was trying to image Alexander Hamilton s life, and how abolition of slavery was a
big part of shaping his life. In contrast to the idea of the play having inaccurate
historical facts, Miranda tried to make the play relatable to the people to really
showcase Alexander Hamilton s life. Miranda used the bootstraps narrative to help
portray that. He talks about how Hamilton reminded him of his own father, Luis A.
Miranda, Jr., who, as a graduated from college before turning eighteen, who then
moved to New York to pursue his studies. In Review: Hamilton, Young Rebels
Changing History and Theater by Ben Brantley, he states how
Technology Is The Weapon Of Choice
Since the beginning of time, mankind has been at war with himself for every
imaginable reason. In 2700 BC Mesopotamia, the armies of Sumer and Elam went to
war. During this first recorded conflict, the bow was the weapon of choice. Over the
next 4,700 years, the character of war has changed dramatically with the introduction
of new technologies such as iron, steel, and gunpowder. Today the Unmanned Aerial
Vehicles (UAV) is the weapon
of choice. For the U.S. military, the use of UAV
technology accelerated in the 1990 s and continued through the past 14 years of
sustained conflict. In 2002, the United States had 167 UAVs and over 7,000 just 10
years later. Although UAVs do not require a human in the cockpit, they are still
controlled by a human who makes flight and targeting decisions. However,
technology is leading developers to push the envelope and develop weapon systems
that have the ability to act without human input or intervention, in all domains of
warfare, which like the airplane in WWI, could have dramatic implications for the
character of future wars.

Case Study Normal Cognitive Ageing
1. Describe what we currently understand to be normal cognitive ageing.
Normal cognitive aging is the process of the brain aging (Kortebein, 2013, p. 8).
This involves the central nervous system aging in the absence of psychiatric
diseases, neurodegenerative diseases or related pathology (Kortebein, 2013, p. 8).
There is no known or exact cause to explain why the brain ages (Kortebein, 2013, p.
8). But, there are cognitive changes, which occur as individual s age (Harada,
Natelson Love Triebel, 2013, p. 1). There are many myths in society that suggest as

It is common for physical mobility to deteriorate as an individual ages (Kimura,
Kazi, Kubo, Yoshida, Ishida, Miyoshi, Ogino, Doronbekov, Tokunaga, Ikejiri,

move freely (Webber, Porter Menec, 2010, p. 444). Joan requires her physical
mobility to care for her husband and look after their large house. Mobility issues
result in falls, which Joan has already experienced. When an elderly person falls
there are increased chances of them seriously hurting themselves, for example
fracturing a hip (Daley Spinks, 2000, p. 1). Joan s physical mobility has clearly
affected her walking and resulted in falls. Joan s mobility may inturn impact her
ability to continue to care for her husband, especially as his condition worsens. As
a result of Joan s physical mobility issues it may impact their transportation. Joan
and her husband live 10kms out of a country town and transport in general many
be of concern. Often in small country towns there is a lack of regular bus services
and lower levels of car ownership among residents (Dobbs Strain, 2008, p. 88).
Transport for elderly living in smaller communities acts as a major barrier when
wanting to access services (Dobbs Strain, 2008, p. 88). Transport options are often
very limited (Dobbs Strain, 2008, p. 88). Often smaller communities do not have
access to all health related services, which may result in people having to travel even
further for assistance (Dobbs Strain, 2008, p. 88). Transport is an important factor in
regards to Joan. If Joan cannot drive due to health issues there may be limited
transportation services available. Without sufficient transport options, Joan and her
husband are not able to be involved and interact with their community, nor will they
have access too much needed health care services. Furthermore, Joan does not have

break trusts and monopolies. He made laws to make it easier for him to break
trusts and monopolies. He tried to use all his presidential powers by making laws.
Roosevelt passed 6 laws to make it easier for him as a president, and as a trust

declared illegal for all combinations in restraint of trade. This law ultimately failed
because whenever he tried to use it in court the judge either just denied it or the
judge found a way around it. This means that the Sherman Act did not help
Roosevelt break any trades or monopolies. Roosevelt was looking for a major
monopoly to break, and he came across J.P. Morgan. Roosevelt came at this case
aggressively because he really wanted to take down this monopoly. J.P. Morgan

long to do list. He had to set up the Judiciary Branch, deal with uprisings and
conflicts between the natives and the western settlers, and try to keep together a
nation that was falling apart. He created a group of advisors (the cabinet) to help
him with certain issues. He had a few things on his mind at the time such as: stay
out of a war, build up revenue to pay off Revolutionary War debt, and try to make
peace with England.
Washington was a natural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Judiciary Act of 1789 established a six member supreme court. It was comprised
of one Chief Justice and five Associate Justices. It had jurisdiction over all civil
actions between states, or between a state and the United States. Also in the act it
created thirteen Judicial Districts. Within these Judicial Districts were circuit courts
and district courts.
After finishing the Judicial Branch, Washington finally got time to create the
Executive Branch. The first offices created were the Secretary of the State, (headed
by Thomas Jefferson) the Secretary of the Treasury, (headed by Alexander
Hamilton) the Secretary of War, (headed by Henry Knox) the Postmaster General,
(headed by Samuel Osgood) and the Attorney General (headed by Edmund
Randolph). These offices became the backbone for the Presidential Cabinet. On July
27, 1789, Washington signed a bill into law reauthorizing an Executive Department
of Foreign Affairs headed by a Secretary of Foreign Affairs.
Washington was the major player to the creation of the United States Government
under the constitution. He did more in his first months in office than any other
president so far. He was the best man for the job and the only man. There is no way
that anyone can do as much for the government as Washington did so. He did a great
job of setting up other courts around the
NASCAR Racing
Racing to Become Environmentally Friendly
Over time vehicles have become a gigantic cause of pollution and global warming.
As years have passed by vehicles have been designed to be environmentally
friendly. This is only happening for the vehicles that are everyday vehicles. Most of
those vehicles are still not fully efficient due to the inability of affording a new car.
Racing in the biggest thing that is in need of finding a way to limit it to release less
pollution.
The great debate over how these rules should not apply due to racing only lasting for
maybe three to four hours. After that then the cars are shut off and are no longer
running. It is believed by the drivers and their teams that this should not affect the
environment at all. Since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As it is only fair to enforce the change in this sport as well, so it fair for everyone in
the end. NASCAR in the past years has been wanting to move towards electric
powered vehicle to help show off to people. So that maybe this will have everyone
wanting to own an electric car. Also Formula onehas started using recycled batteries
and parts used in electric cars or even cell phones. This is something that is cleaning
up the environment and keeping down the pollution from those batteries. (Rogers)
While studying through this topic and finding out more on the effect of racing is
indeed fascinating. Finding out how terrible racing is for the world is highly
surprising on how much carbon dioxide and pollution is released in one race. Race
cars can release more emissions than an everyday car driving far distance. If race
car drivers began to use electric system or hybrids in the cars that this may have a
change for car buyers. Which will then be a giant change all around the world and
will save the environment as
What Technological Innovation Strategies Are Currently...
What technological innovation strategies are currently evident?
In 2015 there are different types on Technological innovation strategies that are
used within the banking sector such as customer experience, in store or on a social
level and even mobile banking. According to the 2014 World Retail Banking
Report by Capgemini about 40% of global customers have reported to have positive
experiences with their banks. The banking way of life is changing because
consumers are banking via mobile and or social media instead of having an in store
experience. (Jim Marous, 2015)

Despite these successes the banks have failed to understand and deliver innovation
that is fuelled by different technologies to their customers. (Gerbino, D., 2014)
Mobile banking has come a long way in the past couple of years, at the start users
were able to transfer money around in their different accounts and then to different
people for different reasons. Barclays Created a mobile app called Barclays Ping It
where there a customer is able transfer money to another person via the person s
mobile number.
With Barclays there customers are using the mobile banking app about 24 times a
month, going online twice a month and visiting a branch less than twice a month that
was stated by Barclays CEO Anthony Jenkins when he was interviewed by the
Independent. This shows that smart devices are changing the way people are banking
and that Barclays are determined to adapt to the changing environment. It was
revealed that Barclays is taking over 6,500 cashier and training them to become
community bankers which their sole aim is to help customers use the automated
machines within the banks. (Ben Rossi, 2014)
Barclays they have won awards for the mobile banking services and they are mainly

My Educational Goals and Philosophy Statement Essay
My Education Philosophy
I ve always believed very strongly in hard work, perseverance, strong moral
character. These traits to me are what exemplifies a superior teacher that has the
privilege to touch many lives and change the world we live in.
Hardwork is something that isn t artificial, or can t be bought. It s a very special
characteristic that sets people apart in the respect that it shows who want s to be
successful and make a difference and who doesn t. In being a teacher hardwork
comes with the job and it s important that the teacher understands that before going
into the profession. It requires a lot of time and patience when a student needs it
most, which isn t always a easy thing to do when ... Show more content on

To be an effective teacherrequires perseverance , which is something that is
extremely important to the profession as a whole. Teaching at times can be very
stressful and frustrating and like any job it can be very easy to give up and quit
when times get tough or seem to be spiraling out of control. Children are very
sensitive with their feelings and emotions and sometimes the blame is put on you
the teacher by the student even though it may not be your fault in whatever
happened. Parents can be very hard to get along with as well and it requires a lot of
composure in explaining issues that may not be popular with the parent or child.
Perseverance is very important to a teacher s well being as far as staying on task and
coming up with new concepts that can better benefit the students as well as the
teacher.
Something that can be easily overlooked in being a teacher is the trait of being a
strong moral character . In the occupation field of teaching there will be times
when people will look to you for answers, or opinions that will benefit the teaching
environment as well as the curriculum, or will not benefit the teaching environment
and it s up to you to speak your mind in what you believe to be ethical, concise, and
why you made that particular decision in the first place. Having a strong moral
character shows others who you really are and what you truly stand for as an
educator. It also
Activist Reform Case
A good and successful activist reform would result in the long term value creation for
the target company, which would benefit both the shareholders and the bondholders.
The activist reform would motivate management to achieve operating efficiencies,
which would improve cash flows and generate better returns for both the shareholders
and bondholders. In conclusion, I find the objections to the strategies of activists
raised by the managers of Commonwealth REIT and other companies in the article
vague. However, the managers need to distinguish between the activists looking for
short term profits and the activists looking for a long term value creation. The former
might destroy some value in the process so the managers need to fend off those
attacks.
It is management s fiduciary duty to maximize the stockholder value, and they
should act accordingly. If the company has extra cash they should return it to the
shareholders in form of either dividends or share repurchase. While it is wise to
hold on to cash to fund future acquisitions, pay off the debt, and have some financial
flexibility however managers like to accumulate as much as financial slack as
possible. The extra cash might also make the company a takeover target. ... Show

They want to use the extra cash for higher compensation, fund bad acquisitions,
invest in negative NPV projects, and acquire trophy assets, among others. The extra
cash would give the managers a cushion, as they won t have to operate firm
profitably as they would be less dependent on the external market for capital. Payouts
to the shareholders would reduce manager s power and they would incur the
monitoring of the outsiders (capital markets, activists, etc.). This managerial behavior
would cause agency dilemma as shareholders and managers will have conflicts of
interest over the payout
Bull Float
Running the Bull Float Pouring concrete is a huge part of America s past. The
Hoover Dam is entirely made of concrete. The Dam was erected of 3.25 million cubic
yards of concrete while all of its additional facilities were an additional 1.11 million
cubic yards of concrete (Arbeiter). That s 4.36 million cubic yards of concrete!
Assuming that the average price of a yardof concrete is one hundred dollars in today
s standards that adds up to 436,000,000 dollars for the concrete alone! That price
doesn t include the worker s wages, the price of steel and metal that has to be put
into the concrete, and even the price it cost to build the temporary diversions of the
river so that the dam could be constructed.
Since the start of last school year, I have probably poured a total of over one hundred
cubic yards of concrete. Later on I will explain how to calculate what a cubic yard is,
but for now, just know that concrete is no joke. Everyone involved must be focused
at all times and if anyone fails to complete their job, then the entire pour could go
downhill quickly. After reading this essay, I hope you learn to not only respect the
amount of effort and work required to have a successful concrete pour but also to
learn some of the basic things involved in concrete. ... Show more content on

Most pours require you to own a bull float. A bull float is an approximately three
foot wide piece of metal attached to the end of a series of poles. This is used when
finishing the concrete. You start by setting the float angled at approximately a
thirty degree incline and run the float across the concrete. When you make it to the
other side of the pad, you need to reverse the floats angle and have a one hundred
and fifty degree angle instead. Newer bull floats have twistable handles which come
in very handy. Older ones, however, you just have to rise up into the air really high
to reach the desired
Family Guy Satire
When I was in middle school, I first discovered Family Guy late at night while I
was channel surfing in my hotel room. Usually, cartoons are never shown at night,
simply because most kids are asleep by that time. I didn t find anything decent, until
I saw this cartoon. I figured it was for children, but I after I saw the theme song, I
second guessed that. I continued to watch the show and even though it clearly had
adult humor, I still continued to watch it, because I found it hilarious. There are a lot
of shows, like Family Guythat have people take in so much offense, because it is
only seen for comedic purposes. I will be covering the cruel broadcasting tactics that
Family Guy was placed in with the FOX channel, due to its low ratings, adult humor
and sexual themes, as well as its satirical episodes, which caused the cancellation of
the show twice throughout its run and I will be going through the reasons behind it.
Family Guy is a typical show that focuses in comedy that is not usually accepted by
people who are not so exposed to absurd ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
MacFarlane has been able to object a varied diversity of viewers that relates best
with Rabinowitz, in his essay, Actual Reader and Authorial Reader. Rabinowitz
argues that the actual audience versus the creative writes who establish plots for
the show. MacFarlane has also been able to fill governmental comedy with family
morals and ethics, which goes toward a certain crowd. Family Guy is also seen to
control a state of people over the worship of mainstream accomplishments and
endless teachings to survive one s lifetime. MacFarlane also has politically based
ethics/morals behind each character, which fascinates the majority of the audience. I
believe that since Family Guy is a very distinct shown compared to others, is the
reason why it has such a large fan
Compare And Contrast St. Thomas Aquinas
St. Thomas Aquinas and In Search of the Good St. Thomas Aquinas is one of the
most prominent and prevalent figures of the Catholic Church, whose very
philosophy and doctrine has served to shape Christian understanding of morality,
ethics, and faith. In his time, his profound philosophy and words were called
dangerous and radical, but today, many praise them as revolutionary and a true
embodiment of Christ s message. In fact Pope Leo XIII once said of him:
And truly such is Thomas Aquinas, not only for the completeness, balance, depth,
and clarity of his style , but still more for his keen sense of fidelity to the truth,
which can also be called realism. Fidelity to the voice of created things so as to
construct the edifice of philosophy fidelity to the voice of the Church so as to
construct the edifice of theology.
Truly, St.Thomas Aquinas s impact on the Church cannot be understated. Therefore,
it can be concluded that Aquinas s works not only reflect the writings of the
textbook studied over the course of the year, In Search of the Good, but can also be
said to be an influence on writings contained in the textbook. St. Thomas Aquinas
supports the writings of In Search of the Good in their shared belief in the
importance of the beatitudes and natural law. The first concept that both In Search of
the Good and St. Thomas Aquinas share is their belief in the importance of the
beatitudes. The beatitudes that Jesus conveyed on his Sermon on the Mount are a
basis for
Why Is Beowulf So Important
Beowulf, an ancient epic and perhaps the most important piece of English text ever
written, is filled with references to struggle, conflict, and war. The poem is written in
Old English, a language commonly used by the Anglo Saxon people, who
presumably passed down this story through word of mouth for generations, writing
their own culture into the poem. These people lived during a time of great struggle
and bloodshed, and the story of the great hero, Beowulf, reflects this fact. Beowulf
makes many allusions to the great weapons and armor of the fifth century, but what is
the symbolism behind these invaluable assets? In the poem Beowulf, swords appear
to be the most important weapon, or at least the most highly valued. Hrothgar gives

Poorly trained novice soldiers often wielded these, which could explain why,
despite its efficiency, Beowulf never attempted to use this type of weapon in his
battles with the monsters. His contemporaries, however, did. Wulfgar, servant of
Hrothgar, tells Beowulf s allies as they enter the land of the Danes, Leave your
battle shields here, and your spears, / Let them lie waiting for the promises your
words / May make (Beowulf 132 134). Mentioned several other times in Beowulf,
spears have been found found in Around 86% of the Anglo Saxon burials that
contain weapons, says Ben Levick of the Angelcynn Reenactment Party (Levick).
A strong blow from a thrusting spear is enough to pierce even the most closely knit
chainmail, making it a most formidable weapon, no matter the wielder s skill level.
However, Beowulf was not a hero because of the quality or power of his weapons.
Other, lesser men under Beowulf s command brandished these weapons to make up
for their lack of courage and battle experience, but Beowulf s ambition and audacity
made him stand out above the crowd of common
Lady Macbeth Wears The Pants In The Relationship
Who wears the pants in the relationship? In Macbeth, Lady Macbeth wore the pants
in the relationship. At the beginning of the story Macbeth urge Macbeth to kill
Duncan because she wanted him to become king for her own selfish greediness. She
had the upper hand (sovereignty) over Macbeth. She demanded what she wanted him
to do and he would seem hesitate at first, but he would eventually do it because she
would badger and pressure him into doing something that would benefit her. Lady
Macbeth. She asked the witches or God(s) to unsex her meaning give the manly
traits of being strong, brave and take away her feminine parts away. She wanted her
feminine parts to be taken away because she wanted to play in the plot of murdering
Duncan so she
The Significance Of The Puritans
The Puritans were a religious doctrine of English reformers that believed in purifying
the Church of England from Catholicism. People who practiced Puritanism in the
western and eastern of England basically worked as wool traders. As a result, of the
economic depresssion that affected their employment stability they were wishful to
leave England. However, their principal cause to fled England was the sufferings they
had due of religious persecution.
The Puritan s theology was related and based on Calvinism. It was founded by
extremely moral rules and traditionalist principles. Their lifestyles influenced the
society and the government entirely. Only church members known as freemen were
eligible as cadidates in the government. Nonbelievers

The Black Death, also known as The Plague and the Bubonic Plague, killed thousands over the span of two summers. The Black Death was caused by the bacteria Y. Pestis, which normally lives dormant in a flea s stomach. However, when a flea bites a rat, the rat becomes infected, which eventually leads to a human being infected. Since rats had a high abundance in 1348 1349, the disease was very easily spread to humans, where it then became airborne (pneumonic), bubonic, or spread throughout the blood, also known as systemic. (The Black Death). The hard hit of The Black Death led to a decrease in available workers. Many of the workers had died due to The Plague, so employers were struggling to find workers for their land and shops. The laborer shortages forced employers to improve their working conditions and increase their pay wages, which was an extensive plus for the serfs. Those who were originally tied to one employer or piece of land could then choose who to work for or where to work. This was a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many people of the Catholic religion believed that God could stop the spread of the disease, or even heal their loved ones. However, when The Plague continued to wreak havoc across Europe, many people turned against their religion. There was also a large decrease of priests that had died due to The Plague, so the amount of churches in many areas simply ceased. The Plague also caused a decline in the Jewish population, however, the disease itself wasn t what hurt them. Because Jewish prejudice was already so high, the Jews were looked at as scapegoats. Much of the population accused the Jews of poisoning the water wells, making them responsible for The Plague. Although this reasoning is highly unlikely, much of the Jewish population fled to Poland and Russia to get away from the

Michelangelo s Sistine Chapel Raphael s Bible compared to Michelangelo s Sistine Chapel Arguing that Raphael s Bible was meant to physically and theoretically fill a spare gap in the Vatican s representation of the bible requires deepening our appreciation of the Sistine Chapel. Indeed, one could think that there is no big difference between these two masterpieces since Michelangelo also depicts the Old Testament: nevertheless, it is by looking at the choice of scenes and stories represented in both stories that the differences emerge. In Raphael s Bible, the artist voluntary chose to avoid the violent and degrading scenes of the Old Testament: the drunkenness of Noah (see fig. 10) the mockery of his own son, his daughters sleeping with him, that were on the other hand
  • 4. Relationship Between White And White Populations As the three largest cities in the United States, New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago are also epicenters of precipitous segregation. Even with the passage of federal law to curtail segregation and promote more integrated communities, conditions have only improved minimally if at all between 1980 and 2000. In New York, the indices of dissimilarity between different races have remained constant over this time period. Between white and black populations, for example, the index of dissimilarity only ranges between 82.8 and 83.5. This signifies very minute and insignificant changes within a 20 year period, and such changes even indicate worsening conditions. Similarly, when using this index to examine the relationship between whites and Hispanics, segregation has increased by three percentage points between 1980 and 2000. Therefore, New York is an urban center that has seen relatively unchanged racial segregation, and any changes mainly reveal exacerbated conditions. Los Angeles, on the other hand, seems to show greater changes in dissimilarity among different races. When considering segregation between black and white populations, the index of dissimilarity decreased from 85 in 1980 to 71.5 in 2000. This is significantly greater than the fractional change observed in New York City. Likewise, dissimilarity between whites and Asians has decreased from 51.7 to 44.9. Yet, Los Angeles shares one similar trend with New York. From 1980 to 2000, the index of segregation between

Ethics are a notion of one s actions, which originates from ideology of an individual doing what is right not wrong. According to the dictionary ethics is the branch of philosophy dealing with values relating to human conduct, with respect to the rightness and wrongness of certain actions and to the goodness and badness of the motives and ends of such actions. These beliefs are amassed to help a person determine how their actions will be carried out. Ideals can be applied as values to a person s way of living. You can hand pick your own adventure from island exploration, deep sea fishing, catamaran sails, guided island tours, mountain biking, dune buggy off roading excursions, dolphin encounters, scuba diving, horseback riding and more. The choices are endless and some are included in the package. The not so adventurous can take relaxing strolls alone the beach, play volleyball, paddle boat, surf or other less strenuous activities. As for night life, patrons can choose to party on the resort, attend All White parties, talent shows, beach parties, bonfires or listen to live bands. The more daring could party with the locals to experience rich, authentic Caribbean culture first hand. All inclusive, whether land resort or cruises, are the preferred way to vacation and provide a great value for the cost. Depending on the client s budget and time constraints, cruises are wonderful getaways but land resorts offer greater variety and excitement. The decision depends on rather a person loves land or water. In conclusion, the abundance that an all inclusive trip has to offer will leave a vacationer with life long
  • 7. Analysis Of The Book Zeitoun By Dave Eggers I am currently a Junior at Mills High School and I m also enrolled in the AP Language and Composition class. For our summer assignment, we were assigned to read Zeitoun by Dave Eggers, which recounts the story of a Muslim American man named Abdulrahman Zeitoun who remained in New Orleans during 2005 s deadly Hurricane Katrina. While trapped in the city, Zeitoun paddles in his canoe in the flooded streets aiding those who are in danger; however, Zeitoun is suddenly arrested under accusations of being affiliated with an Al Qaeda Terrorist Cell. Throughout the novel, Zeitoun is portrayed as a gentle and compassionate man who puts his own life on the line to save others. Through Zeitoun s actions he defies the harsh stereotypes that surround Muslim Americans following 9/11. While Zeitoun certainly redefines the views of the reader on Muslim Americans and portrays a real struggle for Muslims in our America today; would you still appreciate this story s message and meaning if I informed you that the real Abdulrahman Zeitoun was a man known for committing domestic violenceto his wife? Mr. Zeitoun has indeed abused his wife and has been under trial several times and was convicted of domestic violenceand later faced allegations of hiring attacks on his wife, Kathy. This controversy divided my class into two distinct advocates: some of my classmates support Zeitoun to be remain in the AP Language and Composition curriculum. While others, including myself, agree that by reading,

  • 12. What Is Carl Von Clauseewitz s Influence On The Nature Of War Military theorists Carl von Clausewitz and Baron Antoine Henri de Jomini both fought during the Napoleonic Era. However, their experiences created completely different theories of the nature of war. Because Clausewitz understood that war is not static or systematic and that commanders and soldiers influence the outcome of war, Clausewitz best distinguishes the nature of war, specifically through his concepts of strategy and morale. This will be illustrated through the events and actions taken during Operation ANACONDA. Operation ANACONDA was a fierce and bloody battle between U.S. Special Operation Forces and al Qaeda insurgents on the Takur Ghar Mountains of Afghanistan. The operational environment, especially the terrain and lack of intelligence, played a significant role during this military engagement. According to SOF magazine, Intelligence ... Donald Rumsfeld the Secretary of Defense at the time, was determined to modernize and transform the Department of Defense into light, lean, and expeditionary forces. This would prove to have an impact on the strategy and overall campaign in Afghanistan. To complicate matters even more, the nation had experienced one of the most devastating terrorist attacks in United States history and the national level strategy was shifting from the war in Afghanistan to fighting terrorism in Iran. Moreover, national level strategy hindered the purpose of war such as the use of conventional warfare as opposed to U.S. Special Force Operations and unity of command during Operation

The protagonist of the novel, Hadji Murat, became caught between the two despotic leaders Nicholas I, and Shamil. Murat is eventually destroyed because of this. In Hadji Murat Tolstoy depicts the two despots as sharing some similar characteristics. Tsar Nicholas I is depicted in a most unfavorable manner. He delights in causing terror to those around him, in one case an army officer and his female companion at a masquerade (Tolstoy p71). In the same scene Nicholas is portrayed as a lecherous man, having liaisons with various women (Tolstoy pp70 71). This portrayal of the Tsar is problematic as he is considered by historians to have been a family man and devoted to his wife, with whom sexual intercourse was impossible due to her health problems (Moss p357). Tolstoy obviously finds this unacceptable. Nicholas is stupid and egotistical as well, taking credit for the successes of the raids on Chechen villages when he had advocated a completely different policy. Tolstoy also accuses Tsar Nicholas I as not being a serious Christian when he depicts him saying his prayers without attaching any

The factors which caused Britain to lose their innovative edge in these areas prior to World War II was the 10 year rule policy, operational attitude of the British Army, and an emphasis on land based aviation. The second factor that stifled the innovation of the British military is the operational attitude of the military leadership. The British military failed to study the lessons learned from World War I until 1932. This failure to study the battles of the war in a timely manner resulted in the development of inferior doctrine and training concepts. If the lessons would have been learned earlier than 1932, substantial changes could have been made to the British doctrine and professional military education system prior to 1932. The structural, leadership and cultural changes to the British Army after World War I contributed to a pervasive disinterest in innovation. The ideas and attitudes of the military leadership remained those of the prewar army. Those who seemed to be innovators were outcast and the leadership of the British Army did not take their ideas seriously. Jerry was given this assignment by a boy named Archie Costello. Archie is a member of The Vigils, a group that makes assignments for a certain person or group of people to do based on who they are and how they act. The odd thing about Archie telling Jerry not to sell the chocolates is that Archie earlier told Brother Leon that The Vigils would support the chocolate sellingactivity. Students who buy raffle tickets get to write a boxing move on them, which Jerry has to do to Janza, or vice versa, and where to hit them. During the fight, Jerry and Janza are hitting each other as the papers say to. Janza is a lot stronger, and his punches have much more power even though Jerry is able to land a few good hits of his own into the fight. A member of The Vigils draws a raffle ticket that says for Janza to hit Jerry in the groin. Jerry, however, blocks the punch, and the fight becomes more violent. Janza decides not to follow the rules of the fight, and repeatedly punches Jerry. Finally, once Jerry falls to the ground, the lights in the stadium turn off. Old milk cans, wooden pallets and chipped mason jars now have a hundred new uses. Technology is emerging to harvest once discarded after birth and preserving it for research and treatment. Delayed clamping, in which the cord is left attached to drain the blood back into the baby, still allows the afterbirth to be donated. • 24. Corruption In The Great Gatsby Success, formerly signifying the accomplishment of an aim or purpose, however, it has become poisoned by the narcissism of humankind which redefines it as the state of being financially superior to others. In F. Scott Fitzgerald s novel, The Great Gatsby, the outlook on the American Dream during the 1920s was crafted through a myriad of events and characters depicting this civil dilemma. By definition, the American Dream is the belief that anyone, regardless of race, class, gender, or nationality, can be successful in America (wealthy), if they exert the required effort on their arduous journey. Having said that, the American Dream thus presents an illusion of an American society that neglects issues such as: systemic racism, misogyny, xenophobia, and income inequality. Furthermore, it also postulates a myth of class equality, yet the reality could not be further from this. In the novel The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgeralddemonstrates how fantasies driven by materialistic ideologies can lead to inevitable corruption and demoralization in society. Notably, this is exhibited through the daily struggles of George and Myrtle Wilson, the conspicuous bigotry of Tom and Daisy Buchanan as well as the ambition and passion of Jay Gatsby. Firstly, the characters George and Myrtle Wilson embody those who are pursuing the American Dream and face the endless challenges of their harsh realities. George owns an auto repair shop to collect profits while Myrtle pursues wealth and status through her affair with Tom. With this in mind, it is evident that both are disempowered due to the lack of money at their disposal. An example supporting this is when Nick describes the region they live in: This is a valley of ashes... which screens their obscure operations from your sight. (26). Instead of a bucolic image of a regular farm, the beauty of the natural world has been transformed into a horrible hellscape of gray ashes. Moreover, Nick describes the people living there as ash gray men who swarm like insects, illustrating the grim lives of the lower class labour workers who are barely surviving. Also, this displays how the rich are disconnected from their source of wealth and are ignorant towards their privilege. The lower

Capitalism represents a big step forward in human productive abilities compared with previous forms of society. Marx was one of them and his ideas were influential. His theory mostly emphasis on class conflict and the society from economic aspects. This essay will first analyze Marx s theory in detail. Then I will explain how economy and social conflict related to Marx s theory along with the role of these factors in the capitalist society. Marx defined social class as the class which sets the scene and moves things forward. He sometimes talked about there are only two classes: Bourgeoisie and proletariat, the class in itself and the class for itself, sometimes talked about there are many numbers of classes such as capitalist, working class and landowner. There is no simple unambiguous, and universally accepted body of Marxist doctrine. As Bob Jessop said, the thoughts of Marx in his life time were various and far ranging. In general, Marx refers bourgeoisies as capitalists and they are major class in that period leading into industrialization. And he thinks the petty bourgeoisie as middle classes who cannot see themselves as part of class, only as individual. The last one, the proletariat, was described by

Humans have continuously driven to develop new ways of understanding the world and have tried reshaping the intricate perceptions of the world throughout the course of time. While the entire past of humanity is full of astonishing explorations and powerful events, only very few centuries could possibly challenge the importance of the twentieth century. The early portion of the twentieth century was a very crucial period of time that carried great momentum for multiple revolutions across the globe, multiple wars, and major developments in constructing the world. This influenced not only extravagant ways of thinking and understanding new concepts, but also drove new movements of art and literature into cultures everywhere. This gave ideas such as Surrealism, Naturalism, Futurism. Realism and Romanticism the ability to thrive and reform the perceptions of literature as a whole. However, one of the artistic key movements in the early twentieth century that shaped literature today and made these other movements in literature possible is the Modernist movement. Genetic and Environmental Factors of Intelligence One of the most interesting and controversial areas in behavioral genetics, human intelligence is currently assumed to be subject to both genetic and environmental influences. While this assumption is accepted by a majority of geneticists and behavioral scientists, there is great disagreement on the degree of influence each contributes. Arguments for environmental influences are compelling; at the same time there is growing evidence that genetic influence on intelligence is significant and substantial (Eyesenck, 1998; Mackintosh, 1998; Plomin, 1994; Steen, 1996). The purpose of this paper is to explore the question: How is intelligence influenced by heredity and environment? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His concept involved the idea that certain mental tasks are appropriate to certain ages, such as the ability to recite the names of the months: while expected of a ten year old, such ability would be rare in a three year old. Binet quantified intelligence as the Intelligence Quotient (IQ): the ratio of mental age to chronological age, multiplied by 100. Reasoning that low intelligence stemmed from improper development, Binet envisioned the test as a first step in treatment: a diagnostic instrument used to detect children with inadequate intelligence in order to treat them using mental orthopedics. Binet argued forcefully against the idea that intelligence is fixed or innate: We must protest and react against this brutal pessimism (Lewontin, Rose, Kamen, 1984). However, those who translated his test into English tended to disagree, arguing that the test measured an innate and immutable, genetically inherited characteristic. After Binet s death in 1911, the Galtonian eugenicists assumed control, shifting the focus firmly toward genetic explanations by insisting that differences in intelligence between social classes and races were due to inherent genetic differences. Over time, the tests were standardized to correspond to a priori conceptions of intelligence by including items that correlated well with school performance. Test items that differentiated between gender

Monteiro goes on to explain how the play does a lot of a thing called Founders chic as a representational strategy. She points out that the play tried to represent founders as relatable, cool guys. For example, the Founders chic strategy downplayed the involvement of the Founding Fathers in slavery. The play did mention how slavery existed, and how Alexander Hamilton was in opposition to it, but we had no idea on how his attitude was when he was a boy growing up in the Caribbean. Alexander Hamilton worked on slave ship, making the chances that he was one favorable to it a possibility. Miranda s point in contrast to that was to showcase the emotions rather than substance. He was trying to image Alexander Hamilton s life, and how abolition of slavery was a big part of shaping his life. In contrast to the idea of the play having inaccurate historical facts, Miranda tried to make the play relatable to the people to really showcase Alexander Hamilton s life. Miranda used the bootstraps narrative to help portray that. He talks about how Hamilton reminded him of his own father, Luis A. In 2700 BC Mesopotamia, the armies of Sumer and Elam went to war. During this first recorded conflict, the bow was the weapon of choice. Over the next 4,700 years, the character of war has changed dramatically with the introduction of new technologies such as iron, steel, and gunpowder. Today the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) is the weapon of choice. For the U.S. military, the use of UAV technology accelerated in the 1990 s and continued through the past 14 years of sustained conflict. In 2002, the United States had 167 UAVs and over 7,000 just 10 years later. It s a very special characteristic that sets people apart in the respect that it shows who want s to be successful and make a difference and who doesn t. To be an effective teacherrequires perseverance , which is something that is extremely important to the profession as a whole. Teaching at times can be very stressful and frustrating and like any job it can be very easy to give up and quit when times get tough or seem to be spiraling out of control. Children are very sensitive with their feelings and emotions and sometimes the blame is put on you the teacher by the student even though it may not be your fault in whatever happened. Parents can be very hard to get along with as well and it requires a lot of composure in explaining issues that may not be popular with the parent or child. • 43. Activist Reform Case A good and successful activist reform would result in the long term value creation for the target company, which would benefit both the shareholders and the bondholders. The activist reform would motivate management to achieve operating efficiencies, which would improve cash flows and generate better returns for both the shareholders and bondholders. In conclusion, I find the objections to the strategies of activists raised by the managers of Commonwealth REIT and other companies in the article vague. However, the managers need to distinguish between the activists looking for short term profits and the activists looking for a long term value creation. The former might destroy some value in the process so the managers need to fend off those attacks. It is management s fiduciary duty to maximize the stockholder value, and they should act accordingly. If the company has extra cash they should return it to the shareholders in form of either dividends or share repurchase. While it is wise to hold on to cash to fund future acquisitions, pay off the debt, and have some financial flexibility however managers like to accumulate as much as financial slack as possible. The extra cash might also make the company a takeover target. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They want to use the extra cash for higher compensation, fund bad acquisitions, invest in negative NPV projects, and acquire trophy assets, among others. The extra cash would give the managers a cushion, as they won t have to operate firm profitably as they would be less dependent on the external market for capital. Payouts to the shareholders would reduce manager s power and they would incur the monitoring of the outsiders (capital markets, activists, etc.). This managerial behavior would cause agency dilemma as shareholders and managers will have conflicts of interest over the payout
  • 44. Bull Float Running the Bull Float Pouring concrete is a huge part of America s past. The Hoover Dam is entirely made of concrete. The Dam was erected of 3.25 million cubic yards of concrete while all of its additional facilities were an additional 1.11 million cubic yards of concrete (Arbeiter). That s 4.36 million cubic yards of concrete! Assuming that the average price of a yardof concrete is one hundred dollars in today s standards that adds up to 436,000,000 dollars for the concrete alone! That price doesn t include the worker s wages, the price of steel and metal that has to be put into the concrete, and even the price it cost to build the temporary diversions of the river so that the dam could be constructed. Since the start of last school year, I have probably poured a total of over one hundred cubic yards of concrete. Later on I will explain how to calculate what a cubic yard is, but for now, just know that concrete is no joke. Everyone involved must be focused at all times and if anyone fails to complete their job, then the entire pour could go downhill quickly. After reading this essay, I hope you learn to not only respect the amount of effort and work required to have a successful concrete pour but also to learn some of the basic things involved in concrete. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most pours require you to own a bull float. A bull float is an approximately three foot wide piece of metal attached to the end of a series of poles. This is used when finishing the concrete. You start by setting the float angled at approximately a thirty degree incline and run the float across the concrete. When you make it to the other side of the pad, you need to reverse the floats angle and have a one hundred and fifty degree angle instead. Newer bull floats have twistable handles which come in very handy. Older ones, however, you just have to rise up into the air really high to reach the desired
  • 45. Family Guy Satire When I was in middle school, I first discovered Family Guy late at night while I was channel surfing in my hotel room. Usually, cartoons are never shown at night, simply because most kids are asleep by that time. I didn t find anything decent, until I saw this cartoon. I figured it was for children, but I after I saw the theme song, I second guessed that. I continued to watch the show and even though it clearly had adult humor, I still continued to watch it, because I found it hilarious. There are a lot of shows, like Family Guythat have people take in so much offense, because it is only seen for comedic purposes. I will be covering the cruel broadcasting tactics that Family Guy was placed in with the FOX channel, due to its low ratings, adult humor and sexual themes, as well as its satirical episodes, which caused the cancellation of the show twice throughout its run and I will be going through the reasons behind it. Family Guy is a typical show that focuses in comedy that is not usually accepted by people who are not so exposed to absurd ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... MacFarlane has been able to object a varied diversity of viewers that relates best with Rabinowitz, in his essay, Actual Reader and Authorial Reader. Rabinowitz argues that the actual audience versus the creative writes who establish plots for the show. MacFarlane has also been able to fill governmental comedy with family morals and ethics, which goes toward a certain crowd. Family Guy is also seen to control a state of people over the worship of mainstream accomplishments and endless teachings to survive one s lifetime. MacFarlane also has politically based ethics/morals behind each character, which fascinates the majority of the audience. I believe that since Family Guy is a very distinct shown compared to others, is the reason why it has such a large fan
  • 46. Compare And Contrast St. Thomas Aquinas St. Thomas Aquinas and In Search of the Good St. Thomas Aquinas is one of the most prominent and prevalent figures of the Catholic Church, whose very philosophy and doctrine has served to shape Christian understanding of morality, ethics, and faith. In his time, his profound philosophy and words were called dangerous and radical, but today, many praise them as revolutionary and a true embodiment of Christ s message. In fact Pope Leo XIII once said of him: And truly such is Thomas Aquinas, not only for the completeness, balance, depth, and clarity of his style , but still more for his keen sense of fidelity to the truth, which can also be called realism. Fidelity to the voice of created things so as to construct the edifice of philosophy fidelity to the voice of the Church so as to construct the edifice of theology. Truly, St.Thomas Aquinas s impact on the Church cannot be understated. Therefore, it can be concluded that Aquinas s works not only reflect the writings of the textbook studied over the course of the year, In Search of the Good, but can also be said to be an influence on writings contained in the textbook. St. Thomas Aquinas supports the writings of In Search of the Good in their shared belief in the importance of the beatitudes and natural law. The first concept that both In Search of the Good and St. Thomas Aquinas share is their belief in the importance of the beatitudes. The beatitudes that Jesus conveyed on his Sermon on the Mount are a basis for
  • 47. Why Is Beowulf So Important Beowulf, an ancient epic and perhaps the most important piece of English text ever written, is filled with references to struggle, conflict, and war. The poem is written in Old English, a language commonly used by the Anglo Saxon people, who presumably passed down this story through word of mouth for generations, writing their own culture into the poem. These people lived during a time of great struggle and bloodshed, and the story of the great hero, Beowulf, reflects this fact. Beowulf makes many allusions to the great weapons and armor of the fifth century, but what is the symbolism behind these invaluable assets? Poorly trained novice soldiers often wielded these, which could explain why, despite its efficiency, Beowulf never attempted to use this type of weapon in his battles with the monsters. His contemporaries, however, did. Wulfgar, servant of Hrothgar, tells Beowulf s allies as they enter the land of the Danes, Leave your battle shields here, and your spears, / Let them lie waiting for the promises your words / May make (Beowulf 132 134). Mentioned several other times in Beowulf, spears have been found found in Around 86% of the Anglo Saxon burials that contain weapons, says Ben Levick of the Angelcynn Reenactment Party (Levick). A strong blow from a thrusting spear is enough to pierce even the most closely knit chainmail, making it a most formidable weapon, no matter the wielder s skill level. However, Beowulf was not a hero because of the quality or power of his weapons. Other, lesser men under Beowulf s command brandished these weapons to make up for their lack of courage and battle experience, but Beowulf s ambition and audacity made him stand out above the crowd of common
