Essay about The Awakening by Edna Pontellier
The Awakening by Edna Pontellier
The Awakening by Kate Chopin introduces the reader to the life of Edna Pontellier, a woman with
an independent nature searching for her true identity in a patriarchal society that expects women to
be nothing more than devoted wives and nurturing mothers.
The Awakening begins in the vacation spot of Grand Isle. At first we believe that Grand Isle is a
utopia, wealthy families relaxing at oceanside, but it is here where Edna first begins to realize her
unhappiness. The first sign of dissatisfaction is when Edna allows herself to feel that her marriage is
unsatisfying, yet she must agree with the other women that Leonce Pontellier is the perfect
husband. Edna asks herself that if she has a good husband ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

She is moved by music. During that summer Edna sketches to find an artistic side to herself. She
needs an outlet to express who she is. Edna feels that art is important and adds meaning to her life.
After the summer is over and they are back to the city and Edna is a changed woman. She makes
many steps towards independence. She stops holding Tuesday socials , she sends her children to
live in the country with their grandparents, she refuses to travel abroad with her husband, she
moves out of the Lebrun house on Esplanade Street, and to earn money, she starts selling her
sketches and betting the horses. She also starts a relationship with another man Alcee Arobin. He
meant nothing to her emotionally but she used him for sexual pleasure. Edna evolved above her
peers she did not believe that sexuality and motherhood had to be linked. The last step of her
awakening is the realization that she can not fulfill her life in a society that will not allow her to be
a person and a mother. Edna commits suicide in the ocean at Grand Isle.
She married Leonce not because she loved him but because she could not refuse his admiration and
persistence. This marriage thrusts Edna into a foreign culture. She questions her role as a mother
because she is different from the typical Creole mother woman. Edna defies the central perception
that women are mothers first

It doesn t help that departments and agencies turn over more frequently, causing unnecessary starts
and stops in the progress of specific areas. As well, the public sector holds flexibility in decision
making, and the way to use the public s money efficiently (Mares, 2013). Although the SIR program
is important to the safety of the public, it does not seem important enough to use taxpayers money
in order to fund it.
Yes, many people have to take this program in order to be qualified for a job, event or special
occasion, but what about the people that are not in one of these situations? Why do they need to
pay out of their pocket so that the public sector can continue to administer? We as a province,
should make a change, and hand the SIR program and it s duties over to the private sector.
Public Sector Employees versus Private Sector Employees A recent study by Fraser Institute,
reveals some critical issues in relation to the benefits that a public sector employee gets over that
of a private sector employee. The BC public sector earns more than the private sector, which would
be expected. However, how much more they make, is where the issue arises.
Monetary Wages and Benefits In 2013, government workers were paid 6.7% more and 3.6% more
than unionized private workers. Not only do these workers receive better wages, but also get better

Essay on Hector Tobar s The Tattooed Soldier
Downtown Los Angeles is one of the busiest commercial centers in the United States. However, the
city holds two groups of people in different economic level the homeless and the working class.
Hector Tobar frequently includes the landscape of the setting in downtown Los Angeles in The
Tattooed Soldier. The novel is about two immigrants from Guatemala who have moved to Los
Angeles. The protagonist, Antonio, takes a revenge on the antagonist, Longoria because he
murdered Antonio s wife and son when he was a Guatemalan soldier. Tobar applies a number of
metaphors to connect the buildings and freeways in downtown to Antonio s position in the city.
Buildings, freeways, and shadows are metaphors for Antonio s economic and social status.... Show

The stock exchange building represents material life and the windowless building represents
security. Antonio can observe these buildings that illustrate an ideal life, but he belongs to none of
the qualities that are associated with these buildings. He is exposed to all the danger of the city
with no money at all. Clearly, this reflects the poverty level of the protagonist compared to the
working class in Los Angeles. The people who are inside these buildings are having a good life, but
Antonio is homeless; he does not even have money to rent a shelter to protect himself.
The structure of the freeways illustrates the lack of freedom in the protagonist s social life. In the
beginning of the story, the author uses sleep under the freeway repetitively to emphasize
Antonio s low social status (9). Freeways represent work and economic activity, but Antonio has
fallen off the track. He is now under the freeway because he has dropped from the flow of the
busy city life to the lowest level in Los Angeles. Antonio was a scholar in Guatemala, but he
works as a bus boy and later becomes homeless after he moved to Los Angeles. The author states,
Los Angeles made him [Antonio] short (53). Antonio s social status is lowered by the city. He has
become so short that it is almost impossible for the others to notice him. A factor that lowers
Antonio s social status is communication. Antonio meets Frank in the homeless camp who says that
people are switching lane so

Risk Factors Affecting Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery
M.C was admitted to Providence hospital in Waco on September 11, 2015 to undergo coronary
artery bypass graft surgery. He has a previous medical history of coronary artery disease (CAD),
hypertension, MI, and hyperlipidemia. All of these diseases put M.C at an increased risk for acute
CAD leading to occluded vessels that supply the heartwith adequate bloodflow and oxygenation.
Nonmodifiable risk factors associated with coronary arterydisease include age, gender, family
history, and ethnic background. Modifiable risk factors include smoking, obesity, elevated serum
lipid levels, limited physical activity, stress, and hypertension (Ignatavicius Workman, 2010). M.C s

The fibrous plaque is often elevated and protrudes into the vessel lumen, partially or completely
obstructing blood flow through the artery (Ignatavicius Workman, 2010). When the coronary
arteries are unable to meet the cardiac muscle s need for oxygen an imbalance occurs resulting in
stable angina or unstable angina. With stable angina the plaque is fixed and is associated with chest
discomfort in response to activities. Whenever the plaque that has been accumulating in the arteries
ruptures the body responds by platelet aggregation, thrombus formation, and vasoconstriction as an
inflammatory response known as acute coronary syndrome or unstable angina. This in turn
narrows the blood vessels and can cause an increase in obstruction of the artery. Once the artery
has plaque accumulation of 40%, blood flow starts being blocked. The amount of blood flow
blocked through occlusion of the artery determines the disease process.
M.C also had increased glucose levels while I was providing care. Hyperglycemia can cause
increased inflammation of the blood vessel walls damaging the endothelial lining of the vessel.
Hyperglycemia is another major cause for concern because it creates additional plaque buildup
causing occlusion and further complications.
With recurrent plaque build up on the arteriolar walls and vasoconstriction M.C developed and
was diagnosed with hypertension. Hypertension is defined as a systolic blood pressure at or above

28th Amendment Benefits
The proposal of the twenty eighth amendment is that no Supreme Court justice shall serve any
more than 18 full years as a judge on the Supreme Court. A term of 18 years is suggested most
often because this length would allow presidents to appoint one member every two years (or two
every term, which is approximately the historical average) but would not allow them, even if
elected to two terms, to appoint a majority of the court. The constitution does not clearly specify
any limit to the number of Supreme Court justices nor the length of their terms. In this proposal for
the 28th amendment, not only gives term limits, but also sets a mental competency exam for every
fifth year and proposes vetting every second year. The founding fathers did... Show more content on

The most common thought about lifetime tenure is that the Founding Fathers wanted to protect the
Justices from political pressure. Justices spend so many years on the court that they are not easily
influenced by the current political culture, therefore some argue that term limits are not necessary.
Taken together, the evidence does not support the argument that, measured either by age or length
of service, lifetime tenure on the Supreme Court needs to be modified or abolished. Doubtless
there are examples of justices who time their departures in just such a fashion, but statistical
assessments that sort out the relative impact of the factors that might lead a justice to retire suggest
that the justices have retired principally because of ill health and the availability of pension
benefits. If this quote were true, Chief Justice John Rehnquist, when diagnosed with thyroid cancer
and Justice Ginsburg, undergoing surgery for colon cancer, would have most probably retired for
these health reasons. ... the Court is a group consisting almost entirely of senior citizens, several of
whom have battled serious health problems. Compounding these concerns is the fact that the
responsibility for determining when a member of the Court may no longer be fully fit for the job
is left to the discretion of the individual justice, who obviously may not be in the best position to
render an objective judgment about his or her

This quote links into this assignment as it shows how important the first couple of years in a child s
life can affect them the throughout their life. It shows how important it is to have the pioneers
input into the practice and teaching of children as its important they have the best start in life to
help them develop.
In this assignment I am going to compare previous and current pioneers that have and are
influencing the current principles of early year s pedagogy. For example how they are influencing
the four principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). This assignment will get me to
look at different views that theorist have to education and how they can be used in current
practice. It will provide me with the information on how they influence early year s pedagogy and
current practice. Throughout this assignment I will be referencing from current reading that I am
doing, these will range from eBooks to articles. I will be using nursery world articles to provide
information about each pioneer and what their work has done for current principles in early year s
pedagogy.
The EYFS is a framework for children up to the of five, it sets out the six key areas of learning
which activities that are planned for children should be based upon. It also sets the learning and
development requirements that practitioners must follow for children below the age of five. The

The poet has used his keen scalpel satirically to pierce the sensitivity of the insensitive politicians
who rule and have the moral as well as constitutional responsibility to ameliorate the condition of
the suffering populace in the country, in particular, and in the world, at large. It is often said
that wisdom comes with age. The poems also have good pearls of wisdom for the younger
generation to learn; if, and only if, they want to usher into a country Where the mind is without
fear and the head is held high (Tagore 20). Of course, these poems are the pouring of a mature
mind that has learnt so many lessons from age and experience, and now wants to advise and
guide the generations to follow. It has been very pertinently said: the price of wisdom is above
rubies (Old Testament, Job, xxviii, 18), and Wisdom is of the soul ... is its own proof (Walt
Whitman, Song of the Open Road). However the greatest question is: Is our polity ready to accept
it? The book has material worth several research articles besides jolting the sensibility of our
insensitive people at the helm of affairs. The book exemplifies the truth that age can cripple body,

The first thing I think of or most people think of when they hear the word Mayans, is how they

for people who were sacrificed or died in childbirth. Human sacrifice was a big Mayan practice in
the ancient times. It encouraged fertility, piety, propriate the Gods, etc. Some different forms of
sacrificing they performed were cutting the hearts out, heads off, or other body parts out and
burning them for the gods to eat or push them down the temple stairs (Minister). Human blood was
thought to nourish the Mayan Gods. They believed these rituals and sacrificed had to be done

Residential Schools And The Effect On The Development Of...
This paper is focusing on Residential Schools and the effect they had on the development of the
individuals who attended the schools. The thought behind the Residential Schools was that,
Residential schools were the institutions, in operation from the 19th century to the late 20th century,
which Indigenous children in Canada were forced to attend (Ross, Dion, Cantinotti, Collin
VГ©zina, Paquette, 2015, p. 184). Residential Schools have caused intergenerational hardship and
trauma to Indigenous People s that has affected their well being and development. Being First
Nationsmyself and having family members who suffered the Residential Schools, I have seen the
effects on our people. Residential Schools had negative impacts on the individuals who attended
these schools by removing them from their communities and placing the children in these schools,
the effects of the Residential Schools still impact some of the survivors to this day. It needs to be
remembered that these, children did not choose to attend these schools, they were forced into
attending. Those who are different tend to stand out. As Ranzjin (2010) explained ... exclusion

How Prawer Jhabvala Highlights the Culture Clash Between India and England in the Young Couple
Prawer Jhabvala highlights the culture clash in several ways. Firstly, by using themes. Secondly,
through the uses of images and languages. Finally, through the uses of characterisation of Naraian,
Cathy and Naraian s parent.
Firstly, Prawer Jhabvala uses the main theme, clash of culture to show the culture clash between
England and India. The first culture clash was shown on the reaction Naraian s friend to Cathy.
Naraian s friends were polite to her, but the trouble was they were too polite, in a very formal and

Naraian s family does everything for Cathy. His family gets involved very much between the couple.
Secondly, Prawer Jhabvala also highlights the culture clash through using images and languages.
One of the images I found is that the reasons why Cathy doesn t work. She has experiences on
receptionist to a Harley Streetspecialist, a sales assistant in an airlines office and a waitress in a
coffee bar. However, she knew it was impossible to get a job like that in India. Because of her, or
rather the family s, background and social standing. The sort of jobs this background and social
standing permitted her she was not qualified to do. Therefore, the main way of getting a job in
India is nepotism. On the other hands, in England, individuals find works independently of
family. And other images I found is that the attitude of family to Cathy s shopping trip. The
mother said to Cathy, One word, and I shall come myself with the car and take you . Our girls don t
go into these bazaars alone. It is not proper for us. Overly caring and involvement in the lives of the
couple. It is not socially acceptable especially for a white woman to go to bazaars

Long Vacation Vs Year Round School
Nowadays, schools across the country tend to switch their schedule to a year round curriculum,
which suggests that both teachers and students no longer have the traditional two months of
summer vacation. However, many proponents of an extended summer vacation contend that long
vacation each year is better for students. As the seemingly simple notion of several short vacations
throughout the year triggers a firestorm of debate, we need to understand the realistic effects of
several short vacations. If students have more frequent breaks, they can avoid the brain drain .
Several short breaks also make it easier to get a fresh start when necessary. Finally, I think that the
purpose for which long summervacation was introduced is no longer exist.
First of all, frequent short break is the antidote of the dreaded brain drain that students experience
during the summer vacation. Most of the cases, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The traditional American school year consists of a nine month schedule requiring 180 days in the
classroom. This schedule was designed when America was still a largely agrarian country. At that
time, this system was established due to children were often needed to work in the fields during the
summer period. As those reasons no longer make sense in this modern era, I support year round
education instead of nine month school year.
In a nutshell, I think several short vacations are better than long summer vacation in many ways.
Students are able to rest and regain energy in between the classes and exams, and their
recollection of lesson is considerably enhanced. Furthermore, it also meets teachers high demand
for their time at the end of grading period. Lastly, the long summer vacation is not what is best for
today s students since traditional long summer vacation is no longer essential. So, I believe it is a
plan that every school should

A Common Problem Today For Adolescent Christians
A common problem today for adolescent Christians is the lack of intimacy with God, and not fully
experiencing Christ in their lives. The solution to this problem can be found in the spiritual
disciplines. Spiritual disciplines are practices that aid in transforming believers into the image of
Christ, and help them to develop a more intimate relationship with Christ. They help to bring a
Christian into the presence of God, and to bring them a portion of heaven. According to Isaac
Ambrose, an English Puritan minister from the seventeenth century, spiritual disciplines are the
vehicles to God. He said: ...the saints look upon duties (the Word, Sacraments, Prayers, etc.) as
bridges to give them a passage to God, as boats to carry them into the bosom of Christ, as means to
bring them into more intimate communion with their heavenly Father, and therefore are they so
much taken with them (Schwanda 1). Ambrose argued that through spiritual disciplines, one could
experience an intimate relationship with God. The spiritual disciplines are broken into three
categories, inward, outward, and corporate. From these three categories, the three main focuses are
meditation, service, and worship. Through the application of these three spiritual disciplines, the
main goal is to enter a deeper, more intimate relation with Christ and to be shaped into the image of
Christ. The first spiritual discipline is meditation. According to WordNet, meditation is the

The Theory Of Atomic Theory Essay
Emily Elliott
Scientists who Contributed to Atomic Theory
20 September 20 What is Atomic Theory? Atomic theory is the theory that all matter is made up of
tiny indivisible particles called atoms. This paper will discuss its beginnings and some of the
scientists who made major contributions to how it is defined today.
Background
Since the earliest of times, scientists and philosophers have known that the universe is more than
just what it appears to be, but instead there is a deeper, more complex makeup beneath the surface.
The ancient Greeks called it the four elements 2, though some, like Democritus, believed that
everything was made of tiny indivisible particles called atoms.3 Later, however, with advancements
in technology, scientists such as John Dalton, JJ Thomson, Ernest Rutherford, and James Chadwick
were able to prove the existence of an indivisible particle with a dense, positively charged nucleus
consisting of protons and neutrons with electrons orbiting the nucleus.1 With this knowledge,
others were able to dig deeper, and discover so much more about atomic theory, such as Brown s
equation for the motion of an electron,6 Dirac s discovery of the positron,11 Fermi s research in
nuclear fission to create the atomic bomb,13 and Gell Mann s discovery of the quark.14 Each
discovery made by these men has shaped the world in some way or another, and even now more
discoveries are being made, but only because of the foundation laid out by those who set atomic

in democratic America. And, with the rising popularity of college athletics, particularly football,
compensation (or lack thereof) for college athletes has recently been a hot topic in American
sports. While some of the debate stems from the similarity between responsibilities college
athletes have to their programs and those of professionals, most of the issue involves the
principles of amateurism. Recent scandals involving college athletes such as Terrelle Pryor,
Johnny Manziel, and Todd Gurley have raised questions about the ethics of amateurism,
particularly with regard to the NCAA organization. The issue is found in a very gray area, where
there is most likely no definitive one size fits all solution, but the resolution of this issue is one
that will change and shape the future of college athletics across the national landscape. For as long
as second level institutions have sponsored sports teams to represent their universities, there have
been regulations (both official and unofficial) on the athletes, including their safety and benefits.
This led to the formation of the NCAA in 1906. The NCAA s formation in the beginning was to
preserve the sport itself in a time when the sport was perceived as too dangerous to be played.
United States President Theodore Roosevelt actually inadvertently set the NCAA in motion when
he convened thirteen footballrepresentatives (Treadway,

The second step in the risk management process is communication and consultation. This step
involves looking at reports to ensure their accuracy, and ensuring they are relayed to the proper
channels, so that everyone in the company is able to have a better understanding of the product, to
ensure the best productivity and outcome for the company. Discussion among senior management,
line management, risk management, compliance, internal audit and external audit personnel is
necessary for the growth and understanding of the product in these reports.
The third step is policies and procedures. This outlines all the mandatory policies, plans, and
strategies to eliminate the risks involved with the product. It helps to identify a support plan,
policies, strategies and control on the products overall design and performance. This step is crucial
because it is the place where the actual plan for risk management control should be generated, and
any potential problems that may have arisen would be addressed before ever putting the product on
the open market. This step would have identified the proper procedures of product design and
would have identified any missing steps or uninitiated steps during the process.

It is well known that the financial crisis which started in 2008 is a worldwide recession. Even the
Lehman Brothers Holdings, which was a global firm with a high reputation, went bankrupt on
September 15th, 2008. Lehman Brothers Holdings failed because it was unable to retain the

Some of the quality mistakes bring uncountable cost, while some bring companies to the end of
their businesses. As a result, better quality than quantity should be advocated as a regulation before
companies start any strategies. On the other hand, the government should strictly control the quality
of products and make a more detailed policy on standards to stimulate corporations focus on the
quality of their products.
Last but not least, the subject of diversification. It is well known that, the fluctuation of the
economy is unavoidable and one corporation, if they only produce one product, the fluctuation will
inevitably influence the corporation. Fortunately, corporations can learn from the principle of
investment portfolios, which divides the risk into pieces and would definitely decrease the
probability of failure. Even though corporations who only focus on one product seem to gain
higher quality, it is not necessarily the truth it might be a struggle for corporations to survive in
competitive circumstances. Next comes the problem of how to manage the portion of every
product and how many products should a corporation afford to minimize the risk of failure while
gain a higher profit? The number of possible answers is quite vast. For example, making decisions
fitted with the corporation s real situation, making full use of mathematic models to decide the
number of the category, hiring professional corporations for consultant, etc.

Evaluation Of A Research Project
6.1 Introduction and overview
This section describes the methodology used for the research. It considers first the philosophical
position agreed for the research, then the methodology involved in the research. In this case, the
research was made up of a focus group, using a sample of young people and adults with LDD and
a small number of parents and carers who completed questionnaires. The methods of data analysis
were then documented, and the final section reflects on issues of validity and reliability.

It is understood that all research is centred on the researchers motivating philosophical assumptions.

Furthermore, these worldviews and philosophical assumptions are what researchers have endorsed
to carry out their research along with their chosen methodologies for the expansion of gathering
new knowledge in a given study (Frels and Onwuegbuzie, 2016). Therefore, to conduct and evaluate
any research, it is important for that reason to know what these assumptions are.
6.3 Epistemology foundationalism
It is explained that Epistemology is a term that describes the nature of knowledge and the means
of knowing; how we know what we know or what we conceive as a truth (Kuada, 2012, p.59) and
the way knowledge is created and constructed or revealed and fixed (Wisker, 2011).
Epistemology also provides a philosophical background for deciding what kinds of knowledge are
legitimate and adequate, which helps with the most novice of researchers who quickly select a data
gathering method as they are keen to get on with the job (Gray, 2011).
Positivism is seen as being concerned with gathering facts about a reality that is seen as real
(Silverman, 2006) in order to explain human behaviour (Bryman and Bell, 2011). In opposition to
this is interpretivism that seeks to understand human behaviour (Maylor and Blackman, 2005),
whilst constructionism holds the belief that as reality is socially constructed and subjective there
are multiple realities, Berger and Luckman

Neuroglia protect and assist neurons
3. Name and describe the various structures found in a neuron.
The various structures of the neuron are the soma, axon, and dendrites. Soma are the cell body and

4. Compare and contrast the makeup of cardiac and skeletal muscle.
Skeletal muscle consists of long, cylindrical cells called muscle fibers and each cell consists of
multiple nuclei. It appears striated and this is due to overlapping of proteins that are involved in the
contractile process. Skeletal muscle is voluntary. Cardiac muscle is located in the heart and it may
also be found in nearby large vessels. It is also striated like skeletal muscle and cells are much
shorter than skeletal muscle cells. Cells are called myocytes and these are branches and only have
one nucleus. The myocytes are joined end to end by junctions called intercalated discs. Cardiac

Project Control Methods For Control The Project
Part 9. Project Control Describe the methods that you would use in order to control the project. (1
paragraph)
First and foremost, the project scope must be controlled. The entire reason for applying the scope
control process is to locate and direct the parts of the project that could increase or decrease beyond
what has already been determined in the original approved project scope plan. The next control
method needed would be scheduling and is one of the most challenging but essential needs within
project control. The project schedule can be impacted by many issues, such resources, funding,
material, weather, my health and on and on. Further, risk control would include accomplishing the
risk management plan to reply to risk events over the time frame of the project. It must be
remembered that even the most the most exhaustive and inclusive examination cannot possibly
recognize all risks and probabilities completely in a project. So using project tools, like
workarounds, will be necessary. Workarounds are unplanned on reactions to a risk event and are,
at best, short term solutions. Finally, cost controls would be vital to this project. A project could go
over budget for many causes and frequently it is not just one item but the cascade of small many
increases that combined to affect a budget failure.

The Abiding Presence Of God In The Gospel Of Matthew
The Gospel of Matthew is an ancient biography. It discusses the generation of Jesus, worshipping
his life and referring to his teachings as the good news. This Gospel summons readers to seek God
s Kingdom, to follow Jesus so that they can experience wonderful things, and to act on His words,
understand them and teach others like He taught us. The Gospelof Matthew consists of eight
themes: The Abiding Presence of God, Jesusas the Son of God, The Teaching of Jesus,
Discipleship, Interpretation and Scripture, Binding and Loosing, Worship and Doubt, Faith and
Understanding, and Hostility Towards Jewish Leaders. God is omnipresent, meaning that he is
in attendance everywhere at the same time. Matthew s Gospel exhibits interest in the ways that
God is present on Earth. The Gospel of Matthew answers the question, Where is God? , usually
asked by many struggling believers or by those who are generally curious. The answer that
Matthew provides is divided into three presentations. The first being that God is present in Jesus,
meaning that when Jesus was brought into this world, He had opened up a passage so that God
can fully enter our world and actually be with us . In fact, the main point of this theme is that
Matthew accepts those who worship Jesus and deems it appropriate because, in a sense,
worshiping Jesus counts as worshiping God, who is present in Jesus. This point was proposed for
the people who lived before Jesus crucifixion. However, after Easter, the question then

Police Brutality Against Black Men
Honestly, there seems to be an ongoing battle between Black men and Law enforcement. Police
Brutality against Black men is at an alarming rate. The history of violence, discrimination,
supremacy, and disregard for the law has been morally accepted amongst our Society. Besides
that, the seemingly higher number of men being killed by law enforcement could be attributed to
poverty stricken communities, which have higher crime rates, racial bias, and sinful pride!
Recent events have become so detrimental that black men try to avoid confrontations and
committing crimes altogether in fear of losing their lives. Moreover, Black men today are not as
submissive to law enforcement, and policies as their ancestors were in the past. Today s Black
men are more aggressive toward law enforcement due to fear of the outcome of a simple search

The Use Of Ester Interchange Reactions During The...
PRODUCTION OF PET
We utilize the rapidity of ester interchange reactions during the production process. The acid
(terephthalic acid) is converted to the dimethyl ester, which is further purified by distillation or
crystallization. This is then allowed to react with the glycol by ester interchange. The reaction
generally is a two step reaction a. First, low MW polyester is made with excess of glycol to ensure
that the hydroxyl end groups are formed and then the temperature is raised and pressure is
decreased to facilitate condensation of these molecules by ester interchange simultaneously with the
loss of glycol. [7]
PET resins can be produced in two ways commercially. These two ways are by using one among
dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) or terephthalic acid (TPA) with Ethylene Glycol(EG). These
processes are generally known as the DMT Process and the TPA process. The intermediate bis (2
hydroxyethyl) terephthalate monomer (BHET) is produced in both these processes. This is
accompanied by methanol when using DMT and water when using TPA. The BHET intermediate
formed is polymerized with heat and catalyst to produce PET resins. The older route is the DMT
process. [8]
Process using DMT [9]
It is a two step process. The ratio of DMT to EG is generally 2:1. There is the possibility of using
either batch operation or continuous operations to produce PET using DMT. Some basic
differences between the batch operation and continuous operations:

treating patients with inflammation problems, blood coagulation problems, fevers, and having a

In an esterification reaction, a carboxylic acid reacts with an alcohol. The synthesis of aspirin is an
esterification reaction. Initially, the proton, i.e. the hydrogen ion, from the acid attacks the acetic
anhydride and attaches itself on a double bond oxygen. This makes the compound more
electrophilic, meaning that it has a higher affinity for electrons. This is what sets off the reaction.
The salicylic acid then acts as an alcohol and attaches its OH group onto a carbon on the acetic
anhydride. Then, the hydrogen from the OH group (the alcohol group) of the salicylic acid falls
off, forming a tetrahedral intermediate, and the hydrogen ion reassociates with the conjugate base
of the acid used as the catalyst. Next, the hydrogen that came from the acid initially, transfers its
electrons and forms a double between the adjacent oxygen and carbon. However, the hydrogen
atom does not fall off after the transfer of electrons but is kept there with a positive charge. With
this, another transfer of electrons occurs and an acetyl group is generated from the breaking of the
acetic anhydride. Now, the acetyl group breaks off the positive hydrogen attached and acetic acidis
generated as a result. With this, the ester, the aspirin, is created (Watson

risk of losing your assets provided as collateral, if you fail to make repayments on time. On the

The Scottish And Scottish Government
Modern Scottish politics was established in 1999 , then called the Scottish Executive rather than the
Scottish Government. The current Scottish Government has control over a certain number of
devolved matters whilst Westminster in England retains control of decisions affecting the whole of
the United Kingdom. This modern day form of Scottish politics was very much influenced by the
events and state of a post war Britain in which many people across Scotlandwanted change and
more independence from the London centric Westminster. A number of the aspects of the modern
Scottish devolved political system intentionally vary from certain ones of Westminster in an effort
to be more representative of the Scottish people and will be analysed and evaluated in this essay.
There are many key developments in the process which led to the establishment of a devolved

The Contemporary Water Crisis Of Mumbai
This essay will explore the contemporary water crisis in Mumbai, India; a rapidly growing
megacity that for decades has struggled to provide adequate access to water for their 20 million
residents, and in particular the more than 10 million people living in unsanctioned self erected slum
communities that surround the cityproper. Beyond the technical and structural barriers lie
ideological and cultural impediments that I will argue are borne in part from an idealized quest
for modernity informed by free market capitalism and neoliberal ideology. I will argue that this
has created deep cultural and societal rifts that have been exploited by vested economic interests
through discursive and political campaigns that seek to delegitimize the right of Mumbai s
citizens to water, and by extension life. The spectre of climate change provides a backdrop for an
existential struggle that has been unfolding for decades and appears likely to continue. This essay

status of one s domicile, including attempts to privatize water services in various regions of the city.

Post Disaster Planning and Development for NGOs and...
Humanitarian and non governmental (NGOs) organizations play a very important role in post
disaster planning and development because government cannot address everything, everywhere. In
fact, in many parts of the world the sitting government may not even be capable of addressing the
basic day to day needs of its population, pre disaster. Traditionally, NGOs and humanitarian
organizational tackle issues such as human rights, advocacy, humanitarian aid, hunger, extreme
poverty, education, housing and vocational training. Now these organizations are responding to
disasters and working in the areas of reconstruction, risk reduction, mitigation and disaster
preparedness.
NGOs and humanitarian organizational structures are flexible. Organizational size, staff and
volunteer workforce can quickly expand or contract to accommodate the mission at hand. This
enables service delivery at a much lower cost than most governments, private sector and multi
lateral agencies can provide. NGOs and humanitarian organizations work at the grassroots level so
while government may have the primary role of planning and managing all aspects of the disaster
NGOs and humanitarian organizational can supplement these initiatives by helping people
understand their rights and focusing on specific issues that assist vulnerable populations. This
bottom up community based approached can accelerate the whole community s recovery post
disaster.

The perception of masculinity within Australian films is a reflection of our society s views and
opinions of what it is to be considered masculine. It is continually reinforced in our society by the
constructions of the male character in movies, just like Archie and Frank, in Gallipoli and
particular male figures within our nation s history, such as Ned Kelly. Peter Weirs reflection of

Weir demonstrates this type of homosociality in Archie and Frank s friendship by having particular

strong male and Archie taking on the role of female.
The two characters symbolize the differing attitudes to the war, to personal ambition and even the
way they run and how, the way they run, reflect how they live. Archie s sacrifice is the apotheosis
of greater love when he takes Franks place in the line symbolizing an act of a hero. But like all
heroes Frank and Archie must undergo shared trials, such as crossing the desert before they can

mistaken because the woman could not prove anything. She didn t know if this person was a

choose to use this form of enhancement. Diuretics are a drug that changes or alters a body s
natural balance of fluids and salts. This in turn can lead to dehydration which can decrease and
athlete s weight which is helpful to athletes who prefer to compete in a lower weight class.
Because of this drug s ability to alter a person s weight, it is most commonly abused in sports such
as weight lifting, boxing, wrestling, martial arts, gymnastics, and even ballet dancing (Diuretics

This can cause many problems within an athlete s body. Arrhythmia can lead to fatigue,
dizziness, fainting, shortness of breath, chest pain, and even a collapse into sudden cardiac
arrest. Because of this possible side effect, constant monitoring and tests should be run during
and before drug use. These precautions include blood tests, and monitoring of potassium,
sodium, or kidney function before drug use. When these warnings are ignored, it puts the athlete
s body or even their life at risk. In 1992, a pro body builder Mohommed Benaziza died after
competing in a weight lifting contest. An autopsy later showed that Mohommed was extremely
dehydrated. He had experienced cardiovascular failure. In another case that occurred in 1988, a
body builder named Albert Beckles collapsed on stage and began convulsing. He was
resuscitated by emergency paramedics and was reported to be suffering from dehydration caused
by the abuse of diuretics. These are only a few examples of tragic events that could have been
avoided if not for the illegal use of the dangerous drug (Diuretics in

John Winthrop And The Puritan Movement
There is no doubt that writings of Jonathan Edward s and John Winthrop had a tremendous
influence in the Puritan movement in the new world. They helped set values and establish order in
the new communities. Both writings deliver on puritan principles and had a critical role in shaping
much of the puritan religious beliefs, but granting all this they are tremendously different. The
reason why these writings have so little in common, despite both being puritandoctrines, is because
of the different situations each was written in. A Model of Christian Charity and Sinners in the
Hands of an Angry God were written about one hundred years apart, in two different centuries, and
most importantly at two different stages of the puritan movement.... Show more content on

This sermon was a radical departure in comparison to the other traditional Puritan texts. When
Edwards was writing his sermon he was beginning to witness deterioration in the original puritan
communities. He felt that the religious ideals first established by his predecessor Winthrop
were slipping among the puritans. Edwards wanted to have an impact on his readers. To him it
was more effective using scare tactics over positive encouragement to discuss proper conduct
and God s wrath. Edwards wanted to make sure the members of puritan society understood just
how important their behavior and conduct while on earth was. He wrote about the certain
punishments that awaited in hell for those who did not properly adhere to the puritan religious
values. Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God is full of strong and vivid images of hell,
comparing hell to a pit of fire and depicts how Unconverted men walk over the pit of hell on a
rotten covering (Edwards). He crafted this imagery as a deterrent example specifically to awaken
the readers, and to remind them of the power of God and his harshness when it comes to doing
away with sinners. This gave the puritans encouragement to try and build a perfect

Theme Of Male Desire In Philadelphia Fire
Objects of Male Desire
In his novel, Philadelphia Fire, John Edgar Wideman takes on the task of reimagining the African
American male. While this role may seem daunting to some it was a challenge that Wideman
accepted. Through various forms of written and spoken language Wideman follows the male
narrative of Cudjoe as he tries to understand what happened on the day of the MOVE bombing.
Wideman challenges the reader s idea of a typical novel. He aims to give a new perspective on the
African American and does so in a unique and descriptive way. Wideman s re representation of the
African American male fails in a major way. The violation, objectification, and silencing of the
Euro American women in the novel prevents Wideman from changing the perspective the reader
has on African Americans (males specifically). On the back cover of Philadelphia Fire, the novel
is described as, ...the story of Cudjoe, a writer and exile who returns to his old neighborhood
after spending a decade fleeing from his past, and his search for the lone survivor of the fire a
young boy who was seen running from the flames. Based off this description, one would find it
hard to believe that much of the novel depicts Cudjoe oppressing women. To Cudjoe, women are
sexual objects. While on Mykonos he meets a dark haired woman and, She will teach him the
Greek for her body parts. (6) This woman is not given a name, and not given any direct dialogue.
Cudjoe says that he forgets the words as soon as she

What Is Accidental Death Of An Anarchist
Accidental Death of an anarchist as a political satire. This play can be acknowledged as a
hilarious satire on police corruption in Italy. This play tells us about the case of an anarchist
railway worker known as madman who supposedly fell to his death from a Police Headquarter
white his interrogation in 1969. Fo himself described the play as a farce, Don t call my play a
comedy. There is a misunderstanding of the word. I call it a farce. In current language, farce is
understood as vulgar, trivial, facile, and very simple. What is provocative and rebellious is
farce. The establishment goes for comedy, the people go for farce. (1984) This play was based
on real events. In 1969 an anarchist railway man, Guiseppe Pinelli was arrested after a bomb
went off in Agricultural Bank in Milan killing 17 people and wounding at least a hundred. Pinelli
was known to be a pacifist, opposed to individual acts of violence. His interrogation went on for
four days after which, according to the public statement made by Italian police, Pinneli jumped out
of the window to his death from fourth floor of the police headquarters.... Show more content on

The Migrant Crisis
Since 2011, some 4.1 million refugees have fled from Syria in an attempt to find asylum in
Europe. The NPR article written by Greg Myre, The Migrant Crisis, estimates that the total
amount of Syrians who have been displaced is as high as 7.6 million. This has placed enormous
pressure of European countries to take in refugees, though many of these, especially the Eastern
European bloc countries of Hungary, Croatia, and Serbia, refuse to let the flood of migrants into
their country. This has left millions of refugees stranded without a home, food, shelter, or hope.
As early as September of 2015, refugees have been denied access into Hungary, which could
easily serve as a means of getting into Germany and Austria. To be granted passage into Hungary,
hundreds of people wait outside of a single white trailer with one door, being processed one by
one. This has caused many to feel trapped, and compelled them to seek asylum in Serbia, Slovenia,
and Croatia. Many are attempting to head to Germany and Sweden, where the governments have
recently passed bills to insure thousands of refugees sanctuary. These Eastern European countries,
however, are not able to handle such an influx. Deep seated ethnic rivalries, failing economies, and
constant border disputes have made the Balkans an exceptionally difficult region to travel through,
and the pressure to take in refugees has placed even more pressure on countries, mainly Serbia and
Croatia, and caused ethnic rivalries to resurface.

The Muscular Dystrophy Association ( Mda )
As a member of DECA, I have had the opportunity to network with the Muscular Dystrophy
Association (MDA). While learning about the work the association does, I realized that I want to
do similar work. In my effort, I worked on a promotional campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy
Association. Neuromuscular diseases, like Muscular Dystrophy, take away physical strength and
eventually life. The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) fights to find a way to give back
strength, independence, and life. The work they do truly changes lives; however, they need support
from others.
The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) has contributed to numerous research through MDA
Venture Philanthropy and MDA Funded Meetings. The MDA Venture Philanthropy, or MVP, is a
drug development program. The MVP program uses elements of a venture capital model to provide
funds for researchers. Furthermore, when many researchers and scientists are brought together they
can accomplish great things. MDA organizes and funds conferences to discuss the current status of
treatment and therapies for muscular dystrophy and other neuromuscular diseases. As the world s
largest non profit supporter of neuromuscular research, MDA has contributed to almost every
neuromuscular development in the last fifty years.
Outside of research, MDA provides help and hope for people who deal with muscular disease by
providing support groups, care centers, summer camps, flu season support, and more. The care

Third Man Corruption
The Film Noir, The Third Man , showed the evident effect that World War 2 had on people. Since
this film was produced in 1949, after World War 2, it reflected the social fears and cultural
changes that have plagued people during post war. Before the war, there was the ideology of the
strong American family. This family portrayed strong values such as happiness, hardworking,
and optimism. However during post war, there was a shade of darkness as fear, greed and evil
lurking. The Third Man portrayed the social, economic and moral corruption which reflects off
the social evils during the post war era. One example of economic corruption is shown in the
Ferris Wheel Scene. In this scene, we see Harry Limes, who is presumed dead, meeting with...

Their moral corruption relates back to the measures that spies had to take and the fear they
installed during the post war era/Cold War. Limes faked his own death and kills someone else to
take his place. His death caused emotional distress for people that care about him. His death
caused people like Holly, to go around the town trying to solve his murder case while leaving his
mistress, Anna to be heart broken. Limes also continues to puts innocent children into hospitals
because of his diluted penicillin. This relates back to the moral corruption of both CIA and
KGB spies. Both parties were performing acts of espionage to gather intel on each other.
Although these spies weren t selling on the black market, they were putting their families under
emotional distress as well as possibly tearing families apart. Despite Lime s lack of family
members shown in the film, Anna and Holly were the closest he had to family. Additionally, the
paranoia of spies possibly being your next door neighbor, installed fear into normal citizens.
Knowing that spies were living among other citizens caused panic and anxiety to many. Reciprocal
to the movie, we see the discomfort and anxiety that Limes have caused Holly. Holly runs all over
the city, trying to piece together his friends death while clearing Limes name. While causing him all
these troubles, Holly inevitably and terrifyingly comes to realize that Limes

Thermography Essay
Nowadays one of the most important challenges is to detect efficient measures of animal s overall
status to assess the positive and negative responses from an organism as a result to its environment,
taking previous experience and genetic background into our considerations. To evaluate the animal
stress response, highly sensitive indicators using radiography may be very useful to get the data,
without directly interfering with the organisms, to avoid undue stress reactions and any bothers

Avoiding a Malthusian Catastrophe
Thomas Malthus once said, The power of population is indefinitely greater than the power in the
earth to produce subsistence for man. Albert Einstein might argue, on the other hand, Necessity is
the mother of all invention, albeit in another context. So, which is it? Are we doomed to unchecked
population growth followed by Malthusian catastrophe, or can we avoid it through increased food
production, decreasing populationgrowth rates, or some other means?
To say Malthusian catastrophe is inevitable is completely unwarranted. Is it possible? Certainly it is
only logical that if human population reached levels which far outstripped food supply, the
resulting global famine would create easily ignitable tensions between nations, and ... Show more

This spread in the demographic data available to contemporary researchers show that as nations
become more developed, fertility rates do not increase exponentially as predicted, nor even linearly,
but eventually plateau or potentially even decrease. This concept, demographic transition, has many
contributing factors, many of which are uncertain. Still, even if these influences are poorly
constrained, the overall trend towards replacement rates of reproduction is well established. The
best example of steady and sustainable population levels is the European Union. The EU is highly
industrially and agriculturally developed, yet has growth rates near zero percent, and not only a
sufficient domestic food supply, but an exportable surplus of grains.
Some detractors may be quick to point out that this is not the case in many developing countries
like India and Sudan, which face shortages of food and resources that are exacerbated by their rapid
growth rate. While true, such criticisms do not stand up to the wealth of data showing a strongly
correlated positive feedback loop between increasing education and economic gains and falling
fertility rates. That is, once such nations in the second phase of demographic transition receive or
implement educational and economic improvements, the resulting chain reaction can move them
into the third phase of sustainability before the population can outgrow their resources.

What Led Italy To War In 1914
WWI was a huge time period not only in European history but the world s history because it was
the first major conflict involving different countries at one time. The war sparked nations to
develop their armies and society so that in preceding life they will be viewed as a hierarchy to
others. In this investigation Italy will be the focusing country and why they went to war in 1915.
So what were the key motives that led Italy to join WWI in 1915? Before choosing the preceding

sources for a deeper analysis because there would be more facts to support your thesis. It is
somewhat challenging for an historian to find primary sources and along with that secondary
sources because I found that some may have been edited and given false information making it
challenging for an historian to find very valuable information from secondary sources that haven

lives much easier by finding primary sources because they are taken from the time of the event
meaning that it would be very hard to know if the source had been edited meaning that it is a
reliable source to use. After looking at some sources it was clear that I was presented with more
facts from secondary sources and less perspectives from primary sources making the job a whole
lot harder to get the perspectives from others at the time of the event. On the topic of primary
sources I would like to add that primary sources

Examples Of Political Allegory In Animal Farm
Animal farm is a book that most people have read at least once in their lifetime. Some people
might have read the book at young age, others might have read the novella as a teenager, and
some people might have read the novella grown up. Animal farm is a novella that can be
enjoyed at every age, but it is likely that the book is interpreted differently. While Animal Farm
may at a first glance appear to be a children s book, the novella is in fact an effective political
allegory. Main body paragraph 1 Tsar Nicholas II is in animal farm represented by the human
Mr. Jones. Mr. Jones both thinks and acts very similarly to the former Tsar Nicholas II. Like Tsar
Nicholas II, Mr. Jones also mistreats his minions. To support this idea we can read on the very

  • 2. Essay about The Awakening by Edna Pontellier The Awakening by Edna Pontellier The Awakening by Kate Chopin introduces the reader to the life of Edna Pontellier, a woman with an independent nature searching for her true identity in a patriarchal society that expects women to be nothing more than devoted wives and nurturing mothers. The Awakening begins in the vacation spot of Grand Isle. At first we believe that Grand Isle is a utopia, wealthy families relaxing at oceanside, but it is here where Edna first begins to realize her unhappiness. The first sign of dissatisfaction is when Edna allows herself to feel that her marriage is unsatisfying, yet she must agree with the other women that Leonce Pontellier is the perfect husband. Edna asks herself that if she has a good husband ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She is moved by music. During that summer Edna sketches to find an artistic side to herself. She needs an outlet to express who she is. Edna feels that art is important and adds meaning to her life. After the summer is over and they are back to the city and Edna is a changed woman. She makes many steps towards independence. She stops holding Tuesday socials , she sends her children to live in the country with their grandparents, she refuses to travel abroad with her husband, she moves out of the Lebrun house on Esplanade Street, and to earn money, she starts selling her sketches and betting the horses. She also starts a relationship with another man Alcee Arobin. He meant nothing to her emotionally but she used him for sexual pleasure. Edna evolved above her peers she did not believe that sexuality and motherhood had to be linked. The last step of her awakening is the realization that she can not fulfill her life in a society that will not allow her to be a person and a mother. Edna commits suicide in the ocean at Grand Isle. She married Leonce not because she loved him but because she could not refuse his admiration and persistence. This marriage thrusts Edna into a foreign culture. She questions her role as a mother because she is different from the typical Creole mother woman. Edna defies the central perception that women are mothers first ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It doesn t help that departments and agencies turn over more frequently, causing unnecessary starts and stops in the progress of specific areas. As well, the public sector holds flexibility in decision making, and the way to use the public s money efficiently (Mares, 2013). Although the SIR program is important to the safety of the public, it does not seem important enough to use taxpayers money in order to fund it. Yes, many people have to take this program in order to be qualified for a job, event or special occasion, but what about the people that are not in one of these situations? Why do they need to pay out of their pocket so that the public sector can continue to administer? We as a province, should make a change, and hand the SIR program and it s duties over to the private sector. Public Sector Employees versus Private Sector Employees A recent study by Fraser Institute, reveals some critical issues in relation to the benefits that a public sector employee gets over that of a private sector employee. The BC public sector earns more than the private sector, which would be expected. However, how much more they make, is where the issue arises. Monetary Wages and Benefits In 2013, government workers were paid 6.7% more and 3.6% more than unionized private workers. Not only do these workers receive better wages, but also get better non wage benefits ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay on Hector Tobar s The Tattooed Soldier Downtown Los Angeles is one of the busiest commercial centers in the United States. However, the city holds two groups of people in different economic level the homeless and the working class. Hector Tobar frequently includes the landscape of the setting in downtown Los Angeles in The Tattooed Soldier. The novel is about two immigrants from Guatemala who have moved to Los Angeles. The protagonist, Antonio, takes a revenge on the antagonist, Longoria because he murdered Antonio s wife and son when he was a Guatemalan soldier. Tobar applies a number of metaphors to connect the buildings and freeways in downtown to Antonio s position in the city. Buildings, freeways, and shadows are metaphors for Antonio s economic and social status.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The stock exchange building represents material life and the windowless building represents security. Antonio can observe these buildings that illustrate an ideal life, but he belongs to none of the qualities that are associated with these buildings. He is exposed to all the danger of the city with no money at all. Clearly, this reflects the poverty level of the protagonist compared to the working class in Los Angeles. The people who are inside these buildings are having a good life, but Antonio is homeless; he does not even have money to rent a shelter to protect himself. The structure of the freeways illustrates the lack of freedom in the protagonist s social life. In the beginning of the story, the author uses sleep under the freeway repetitively to emphasize Antonio s low social status (9). Freeways represent work and economic activity, but Antonio has fallen off the track. He is now under the freeway because he has dropped from the flow of the busy city life to the lowest level in Los Angeles. Antonio was a scholar in Guatemala, but he works as a bus boy and later becomes homeless after he moved to Los Angeles. The author states, Los Angeles made him [Antonio] short (53). Antonio s social status is lowered by the city. He has become so short that it is almost impossible for the others to notice him. A factor that lowers Antonio s social status is communication. Antonio meets Frank in the homeless camp who says that people are switching lane so ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He has a previous medical history of coronary artery disease (CAD), hypertension, MI, and hyperlipidemia. All of these diseases put M.C at an increased risk for acute CAD leading to occluded vessels that supply the heartwith adequate bloodflow and oxygenation. Nonmodifiable risk factors associated with coronary arterydisease include age, gender, family history, and ethnic background. Modifiable risk factors include smoking, obesity, elevated serum lipid levels, limited physical activity, stress, and hypertension (Ignatavicius Workman, 2010). M.C s family history of CAD, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia are leading... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fibrous plaque is often elevated and protrudes into the vessel lumen, partially or completely obstructing blood flow through the artery (Ignatavicius Workman, 2010). When the coronary arteries are unable to meet the cardiac muscle s need for oxygen an imbalance occurs resulting in stable angina or unstable angina. With stable angina the plaque is fixed and is associated with chest discomfort in response to activities. Whenever the plaque that has been accumulating in the arteries ruptures the body responds by platelet aggregation, thrombus formation, and vasoconstriction as an inflammatory response known as acute coronary syndrome or unstable angina. This in turn narrows the blood vessels and can cause an increase in obstruction of the artery. Once the artery has plaque accumulation of 40%, blood flow starts being blocked. The amount of blood flow blocked through occlusion of the artery determines the disease process. M.C also had increased glucose levels while I was providing care. Hyperglycemia can cause increased inflammation of the blood vessel walls damaging the endothelial lining of the vessel. Hyperglycemia is another major cause for concern because it creates additional plaque buildup causing occlusion and further complications. With recurrent plaque build up on the arteriolar walls and vasoconstriction M.C developed and was diagnosed with hypertension. • 6. 28th Amendment Benefits The proposal of the twenty eighth amendment is that no Supreme Court justice shall serve any more than 18 full years as a judge on the Supreme Court. A term of 18 years is suggested most often because this length would allow presidents to appoint one member every two years (or two every term, which is approximately the historical average) but would not allow them, even if elected to two terms, to appoint a majority of the court. The constitution does not clearly specify any limit to the number of Supreme Court justices nor the length of their terms. In this proposal for the 28th amendment, not only gives term limits, but also sets a mental competency exam for every fifth year and proposes vetting every second year. The founding fathers did... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most common thought about lifetime tenure is that the Founding Fathers wanted to protect the Justices from political pressure. Justices spend so many years on the court that they are not easily influenced by the current political culture, therefore some argue that term limits are not necessary. Taken together, the evidence does not support the argument that, measured either by age or length of service, lifetime tenure on the Supreme Court needs to be modified or abolished. Doubtless there are examples of justices who time their departures in just such a fashion, but statistical assessments that sort out the relative impact of the factors that might lead a justice to retire suggest that the justices have retired principally because of ill health and the availability of pension benefits. If this quote were true, Chief Justice John Rehnquist, when diagnosed with thyroid cancer and Justice Ginsburg, undergoing surgery for colon cancer, would have most probably retired for these health reasons. ... the Court is a group consisting almost entirely of senior citizens, several of whom have battled serious health problems. Compounding these concerns is the fact that the responsibility for determining when a member of the Court may no longer be fully fit for the job is left to the discretion of the individual justice, who obviously may not be in the best position to render an objective judgment about his or her ... This quote links into this assignment as it shows how important the first couple of years in a child s life can affect them the throughout their life. It shows how important it is to have the pioneers input into the practice and teaching of children as its important they have the best start in life to help them develop. In this assignment I am going to compare previous and current pioneers that have and are influencing the current principles of early year s pedagogy. For example how they are influencing the four principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). This assignment will get me to look at different views that theorist have to education and how they can be used in current practice. It will provide me with the information on how they influence early year s pedagogy and current practice. Throughout this assignment I will be referencing from current reading that I am doing, these will range from eBooks to articles. I will be using nursery world articles to provide information about each pioneer and what their work has done for current principles in early year s pedagogy. The people in Andhra are the worst sufferers of this calamity. The protagonist, in In High Dudgeon , sees a cat with a pigeon in its jaws a situation of imminent death. The spectacle makes him highly philosophic: Not able to live it s not possible even to die . Friends no longer continue to be friends and he murmurs a song from a famous Hindi film, Sangam: Dost dost naa rahaa pyaar pyaar naa rahaa . There is deception everywhere; even filial relations have become ungrateful. It also reminds him about daughters, who turn ingrateful like King Lear s daughters: Regan and Goneril. The poems also have good pearls of wisdom for the younger generation to learn; if, and only if, they want to usher into a country Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high (Tagore 20). Of course, these poems are the pouring of a mature mind that has learnt so many lessons from age and experience, and now wants to advise and guide the generations to follow. It has been very pertinently said: the price of wisdom is above rubies (Old Testament, Job, xxviii, 18), and Wisdom is of the soul ... is its own proof (Walt Whitman, Song of the Open Road). The first thing I think of or most people think of when they hear the word Mayans, is how they think the Mayans believed the world was ending December 21, 2012. From research though, you find out that this not the case at all. And the Mayans didn t believe that at all it is just a new age theory. The Mayans are such a rich culture and have so much history behind them. The ethnic Mayans are one of the earliest developed civilizations. They are a native Mesoamerican people that were founded back in 250 A.D. The Mayans flourished until about 900 A.D., most say their fall came after the Spanish conquest. Mayan rulers were intermediaries between gods and people and sometimes thought as semi divine themselves. Mayans view on afterlife consisted primarily of a dangerous voyage of the soul through the underworld populated by sinister gods and is represented by the jaguar (a symbol of night). Majority of Mayans were believed to go this underworld and Heaven is only reserved for people who were sacrificed or died in childbirth. Human sacrifice was a big Mayan practice in the ancient times. It encouraged fertility, piety, propriate the Gods, etc. Some different forms of sacrificing they performed were cutting the hearts out, heads off, or other body parts out and burning them for the gods to eat or push them down the temple stairs (Minister). Human blood was thought to nourish the Mayan Gods. They believed these rituals and sacrificed had to be done because if neglected they thought the Gods would cause chaos. Residential Schools have caused intergenerational hardship and trauma to Indigenous People s that has affected their well being and development. Being First Nationsmyself and having family members who suffered the Residential Schools, I have seen the effects on our people. Long Vacation Vs Year Round School Nowadays, schools across the country tend to switch their schedule to a year round curriculum, which suggests that both teachers and students no longer have the traditional two months of summer vacation. However, many proponents of an extended summer vacation contend that long vacation each year is better for students. As the seemingly simple notion of several short vacations throughout the year triggers a firestorm of debate, we need to understand the realistic effects of several short vacations. If students have more frequent breaks, they can avoid the brain drain . Several short breaks also make it easier to get a fresh start when necessary. As those reasons no longer make sense in this modern era, I support year round education instead of nine month school year. In a nutshell, I think several short vacations are better than long summer vacation in many ways. Students are able to rest and regain energy in between the classes and exams, and their recollection of lesson is considerably enhanced. Furthermore, it also meets teachers high demand for their time at the end of grading period. • 15. A Common Problem Today For Adolescent Christians A common problem today for adolescent Christians is the lack of intimacy with God, and not fully experiencing Christ in their lives. The solution to this problem can be found in the spiritual disciplines. Spiritual disciplines are practices that aid in transforming believers into the image of Christ, and help them to develop a more intimate relationship with Christ. They help to bring a Christian into the presence of God, and to bring them a portion of heaven. According to Isaac Ambrose, an English Puritan minister from the seventeenth century, spiritual disciplines are the vehicles to God. He said: ...the saints look upon duties (the Word, Sacraments, Prayers, etc.) as bridges to give them a passage to God, as boats to carry them into the bosom of Christ, as means to bring them into more intimate communion with their heavenly Father, and therefore are they so much taken with them (Schwanda 1). Ambrose argued that through spiritual disciplines, one could experience an intimate relationship with God. The spiritual disciplines are broken into three categories, inward, outward, and corporate. From these three categories, the three main focuses are meditation, service, and worship. Through the application of these three spiritual disciplines, the main goal is to enter a deeper, more intimate relation with Christ and to be shaped into the image of Christ. The first spiritual discipline is meditation. According to WordNet, meditation is the continuous and profound ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. The Theory Of Atomic Theory Essay Emily Elliott Scientists who Contributed to Atomic Theory 20 September 20 What is Atomic Theory? Atomic theory is the theory that all matter is made up of tiny indivisible particles called atoms. This paper will discuss its beginnings and some of the scientists who made major contributions to how it is defined today. Background Since the earliest of times, scientists and philosophers have known that the universe is more than just what it appears to be, but instead there is a deeper, more complex makeup beneath the surface. The ancient Greeks called it the four elements 2, though some, like Democritus, believed that everything was made of tiny indivisible particles called atoms.3 Later, however, with advancements in technology, scientists such as John Dalton, JJ Thomson, Ernest Rutherford, and James Chadwick were able to prove the existence of an indivisible particle with a dense, positively charged nucleus consisting of protons and neutrons with electrons orbiting the nucleus.1 With this knowledge, others were able to dig deeper, and discover so much more about atomic theory, such as Brown s equation for the motion of an electron,6 Dirac s discovery of the positron,11 Fermi s research in nuclear fission to create the atomic bomb,13 and Gell Mann s discovery of the quark.14 Each discovery made by these men has shaped the world in some way or another, and even now more discoveries are being made, but only because of the foundation laid out by those who set atomic ... • 21. The Ethics Of Amateurism And College Athletes Salaries, wages, and compensations have always been major and generally controversial topics in democratic America. And, with the rising popularity of college athletics, particularly football, compensation (or lack thereof) for college athletes has recently been a hot topic in American sports. While some of the debate stems from the similarity between responsibilities college athletes have to their programs and those of professionals, most of the issue involves the principles of amateurism. Recent scandals involving college athletes such as Terrelle Pryor, Johnny Manziel, and Todd Gurley have raised questions about the ethics of amateurism, particularly with regard to the NCAA organization. The issue is found in a very gray area, where there is most likely no definitive one size fits all solution, but the resolution of this issue is one that will change and shape the future of college athletics across the national landscape. For as long as second level institutions have sponsored sports teams to represent their universities, there have been regulations (both official and unofficial) on the athletes, including their safety and benefits. This led to the formation of the NCAA in 1906. The NCAA s formation in the beginning was to preserve the sport itself in a time when the sport was perceived as too dangerous to be played. The Gospel of Matthew answers the question, Where is God? , usually asked by many struggling believers or by those who are generally curious. The answer that Matthew provides is divided into three presentations. The first being that God is present in Jesus, meaning that when Jesus was brought into this world, He had opened up a passage so that God can fully enter our world and actually be with us . In fact, the main point of this theme is that Matthew accepts those who worship Jesus and deems it appropriate because, in a sense, worshiping Jesus counts as worshiping God, who is present in Jesus. First, low MW polyester is made with excess of glycol to ensure that the hydroxyl end groups are formed and then the temperature is raised and pressure is decreased to facilitate condensation of these molecules by ester interchange simultaneously with the loss of glycol. [7] PET resins can be produced in two ways commercially. These two ways are by using one among dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) or terephthalic acid (TPA) with Ethylene Glycol(EG). These processes are generally known as the DMT Process and the TPA process. The intermediate bis (2 hydroxyethyl) terephthalate monomer (BHET) is produced in both these processes. This is accompanied by methanol when using DMT and water when using TPA. The BHET intermediate formed is polymerized with heat and catalyst to produce PET resins. The older route is the DMT process. One of the age old methods of treating patients with inflammation problems, blood coagulation problems, fevers, and having a high risk of heart problems involves the patient ingesting an oral supplement of aspirin. Using aspirin as a therapy can decrease the risk of a second heart attack (Baigent 2009). In fact, the FDA has approved four drugs for the prevention of vascular problems, and aspirinis one (Furie 2010). In addition, aspirin is used daily by many seniors in the U.S. In a recent survey, it was found that in people ranging from 45 to 75 years of age, 52% percent reported that they were currently taking aspirin, and 20% reported that they had used aspirin in the past (Thompson,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In an esterification reaction, a carboxylic acid reacts with an alcohol. The synthesis of aspirin is an esterification reaction. Initially, the proton, i.e. the hydrogen ion, from the acid attacks the acetic anhydride and attaches itself on a double bond oxygen. This makes the compound more electrophilic, meaning that it has a higher affinity for electrons. This is what sets off the reaction. The salicylic acid then acts as an alcohol and attaches its OH group onto a carbon on the acetic anhydride. Then, the hydrogen from the OH group (the alcohol group) of the salicylic acid falls off, forming a tetrahedral intermediate, and the hydrogen ion reassociates with the conjugate base of the acid used as the catalyst. Next, the hydrogen that came from the acid initially, transfers its electrons and forms a double between the adjacent oxygen and carbon. However, the hydrogen atom does not fall off after the transfer of electrons but is kept there with a positive charge. With this, another transfer of electrons occurs and an acetyl group is generated from the breaking of the acetic anhydride. Now, the acetyl group breaks off the positive hydrogen attached and acetic acidis generated as a result. With this, the ester, the aspirin, is created (Watson ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The current Scottish Government has control over a certain number of devolved matters whilst Westminster in England retains control of decisions affecting the whole of the United Kingdom. This modern day form of Scottish politics was very much influenced by the events and state of a post war Britain in which many people across Scotlandwanted change and more independence from the London centric Westminster. The Contemporary Water Crisis Of Mumbai This essay will explore the contemporary water crisis in Mumbai, India; a rapidly growing megacity that for decades has struggled to provide adequate access to water for their 20 million residents, and in particular the more than 10 million people living in unsanctioned self erected slum communities that surround the cityproper. Beyond the technical and structural barriers lie ideological and cultural impediments that I will argue are borne in part from an idealized quest for modernity informed by free market capitalism and neoliberal ideology. I will argue that this has created deep cultural and societal rifts that have been exploited by vested economic interests through discursive and political campaigns that seek to delegitimize the right of Mumbai s citizens to water, and by extension life. The spectre of climate change provides a backdrop for an existential struggle that has been unfolding for decades and appears likely to continue. Humanitarian and non governmental (NGOs) organizations play a very important role in post disaster planning and development because government cannot address everything, everywhere. In fact, in many parts of the world the sitting government may not even be capable of addressing the basic day to day needs of its population, pre disaster. Traditionally, NGOs and humanitarian organizational tackle issues such as human rights, advocacy, humanitarian aid, hunger, extreme poverty, education, housing and vocational training. Now these organizations are responding to disasters and working in the areas of reconstruction, risk reduction, mitigation and disaster preparedness. NGOs and humanitarian organizational structures are flexible. Organizational size, staff and volunteer workforce can quickly expand or contract to accommodate the mission at hand. This enables service delivery at a much lower cost than most governments, private sector and multi lateral agencies can provide. NGOs and humanitarian organizations work at the grassroots level so while government may have the primary role of planning and managing all aspects of the disaster NGOs and humanitarian organizational can supplement these initiatives by helping people understand their rights and focusing on specific issues that assist vulnerable populations. It is continually reinforced in our society by the constructions of the male character in movies, just like Archie and Frank, in Gallipoli and particular male figures within our nation s history, such as Ned Kelly. They helped set values and establish order in the new communities. Both writings deliver on puritan principles and had a critical role in shaping much of the puritan religious beliefs, but granting all this they are tremendously different. The reason why these writings have so little in common, despite both being puritandoctrines, is because of the different situations each was written in. The NPR article written by Greg Myre, The Migrant Crisis, estimates that the total amount of Syrians who have been displaced is as high as 7.6 million. This has placed enormous pressure of European countries to take in refugees, though many of these, especially the Eastern European bloc countries of Hungary, Croatia, and Serbia, refuse to let the flood of migrants into their country. This has left millions of refugees stranded without a home, food, shelter, or hope. The best example of steady and sustainable population levels is the European Union.
