Criticism In Virginia Woolf s To The Lighthouse
Virginia Woolf is held to be one of the great feminist writers of modern times. In To the
Lighthouse, we find Woolf s presentation of a family which is at war with itself, while
surrounded by war in the world. In this paper, I would attempt a psychoanalytic reading of the
text, based on Freud s views. The paper would focus on the relationship between Mr Ramsey and
his son, James, from the perspective of the Oedipus Complex. James would also be looked at
separately to bring out his character from Freudian theory of the stages of the development of the
boy from boyhood to adulthood. The lighthouse would be taken as a symbol, and be interpreted
psychoanalytically. The war and its impact on the family would be looked upon to have created

According to Freud, every male child, before the puberty stage, that is, in the third stage, which
he calls the Phallic Stage , has got affectionate feelings for his mother, and seeing the father in
possession of the mother, develops a feeling of bitterness towards his father. The little ego of the
boy makes him see his father as a stronger force, which is there where it wants to be beside the
mother. In Freud s words, A single idea of general value dawned on me. I have found, in my own
case too, [the phenomenon of] being in love with my mother and jealous of my father, and now
I consider it a universal event in early childhood, even if not so early in children who have been
made hysterical....If this is so, we can understand the gripping power of Oedipus Rex, in spite of
all the objections that reason raises against the presupposition of fate; and we can understand why
the later drama of fate was bound to fail so miserably (Masson 271 272). James has got lots of
bitter feelings for his father, for he feels he always hinders him. It is the mother who treats him
with affection, and he, as per the boy suffering from the Oedipus Complex, turns towards the
mother for

What My Grandmother Mean To Me Research Paper
I d walk through hell in a gasoline suit to play baseball. Pete Rose, one of the greatest players to
ever step foot on a baseball field, couldn t have said it better. I would do anything to play baseball
because to me it s just the most important thing in life.
One of the most influential people in my life is my Grandma. She is always telling me how
great of a young man I am and how she always has faith in what i m doing. She has also taught
me many lessons about being a better person. This made me realize the importance of having a
good work ethic, and how having a good work ethic will get you very far in life. Helping her in

Definitely not kids though, i hate little kids. They drive me crazy and dont have the patience to
deal with them. But even in 10 years i still want to remain very close with my friends from High
School. We are together so much it s crazy to think one day we won t see each other everyday.
There is rarely a weekend where we don t either stay overnight or go longboarding for 4 5 hours.
I want to continue riding longboards as long as possible especially with friends because its so fun.
But if the MLB path does not work out i want to continue playing baseball also as it is one of my
passions in life.
In order to be able to play in the MLB I would have to go to a pretty good baseball school. My
dream school would be USC, they have a very good baseball program and if I played well would
definitely have a shot of making it in the MLB. But another good baseball school would be UW
Whitewater, they have won 2 national championships in the last 8 years.
Most professional baseball players make around $4.4 million, while still getting $100 a day for
meals. This would be a very good wage while still having the entire winter off from doing
anything other than workouts. Pete Rose, 4,256 hits later, always hustling no matter what. As
long as he was playing baseball he was happy. That s just what it s like for me, as long as there is

The Importance Of Ancient Traditions On Modern Culture
This class was extremely interesting. Being an older student, I have had the opportunity to live all
over the United States from the west coast to the east coast and many places in between, including
a year each in Germany and Hawaii. I have been exposed to many different cultures, religions,
peoples, lifestyles, and beliefs. But, this sociologyclass has exposed me to new ideas which is what
learning is supposed to accomplish. Three things that stood out for me is how ancient traditions are
still part of modern cultures, how some traditions within a culturemay be viewed as abusive by
other people, and how defining something as deviant is not always the same as time goes by.
With the many cultures that are found throughout the world, many spanning thousands of years, it
is not unusual to find that old traditions still influence modern culture. One example of this is the
practice of Chado or the way of tea which is the ancient art of the Japanese tea ceremony that is still
performed to this day in a ceremony that can last for hours (Ancient Rituals of Japan). The Japanese
society also still celebrates many other ancient rituals and festivals, such as the Hanami Matsuri,
where families gather under the cherry trees and enjoy the beauty as the blossoms fall. Finally, the
ancient culture within the country of India, which was the birthplace of Hinduism and Buddhism
many centuries ago, still has about 84 percent of the population that are Hindu (Zimmerman). These

The Importance Of Being A Team For A Sporting Team Essay
Put me in Coach..
As children we are taught to include everyone because it is not nice to leave people out. If this is
a practice we are taught from a very early age, why is it okay to change that just to win a sporting
event? There is an understanding that when you are in middle/high school, there will be tryouts for
a sporting team. The children who are good enough, make the team, those who are not, get cut.
With the understanding that some players skill level is higher than others, the playing time may not
be the same. With that being said, if you are good enough to make the team, then why would you
not be good enough to play for your team at least once every game? We all know the benefits of
being on a team, learning to cooperate, working together to achieve a goal, helps improve for
communication skills and allows youth to exercise. But what if you make this team and don t
ever get to play, are you still seeing these benefits to being on a team? If you tryout and make a
school team, then all players should be allowed to play in and participate in every game.
The debate is ongoing point of contention for parents and coaches. Playing time a thing to love or
cause much heartache. Coaches tend to take a point of view that they are 1. They are there to win
games 2. life is not fair and how will your athlete learn to deal with these negative emotions in the
real world? Parents take the point of view that, this isn t a professional event, they all made the
team why can

Coral Reef Bahamas
The coral reef of the Bahamas is home to a large variety of different organisms including
sponges, fish, anemones, sea stars, and crustaceans. They all use the reef as a form of resource for
food, protection from predators, or a place to live (Harborne et al. 2006). However, coral reefs all
around the world are in danger of depletion and destruction more now than ever (Richardson 1998).
Damage to the coral reefis caused by a number of factors such as increasing temperatures or
reduction of sea pH (van Hooidonk et al. 2013). These factors lead to an increase in diseases (Kuta
and Richardson 2002; Zvuloni et al. 2009; Patterson et al. 2002; Gil Agudelo et al. 2004). There is

This occurs when there is partial or complete tissue degradation due to a pathogenic microbial
consortium. Sulfur compounds and low oxygen conditions are produced by a concentration of
bacteria, which eventually kills of the coral (Viehman et al. 2006). This is the only disease to
date that can be successfully treated (NMFS 2001). Blotch, circular ring shaped lesions
bordered by a faint yellow colouring distinguish Caribbean Yellow Band Disease (Santavy et al.
1999; Cervino et al. 2001). The lesions are slow progressing growing in size by only mm or cm
a each month (Reeves 1994). The edges remain the yellow colour while the previously infected
tissue will darken prior to the tissue being lost (Cervino et al. 2005). This disease is directly
affecting important reef builders and therefore affecting the growth of the coral reef itself (NMFS
2001). Dark Spots Disease is associated with the appearance of dark spots that may expand over
time. The affected tissue will occasionally form depressions of the surface of the coral and may
differ depending on the season however the underlying skeleton will retain dark pigmentation even
when tissue is gone (Gil Agudelo

Social Responsibility
It is our responsibility as educators to teach our students how to be socially responsible adults.
The ability of the adolescent to identify and define social responsibility is important in defining
who they are, where they fit in the social world, and building confidence in their sense of agency.
(Polk, nd) I want my students to be confident in who they are as individuals, my goal will be to
nurture and push them to be all they want to be. One of the ways I can help students with social
responsibility is to put them in social situations. Field trips to places that would force them to be

Reflection:
Some of the key aspects of philosophy included metaphysics, logic, and epistemology.
Metaphysics is the study of existence. It answers the question What is? It includes everything that
exists, as well as the nature of existence itself. Metaphysics is the foundation of philosophy.
Without an explanation or an interpretation of the world around us, we would not be able to deal
with reality. Logic is the study of reason or the study of arguments. Logic constructs ideas so that
we are able to communicate certain concepts to each other by deducing them from a set of
premises. (Braley, 2003, p. 10) Epistemology is the study of how we acquire knowledge. It answers
the question How do we know? Epistemology is the explanation of how we think. It is required in
order for us to be able to determine the difference between true and false. Epistemology is
important aspect used to obtain knowledge of the world around us. Without epistemology, we could
not think, and we would have no reason to believe our thinking was productive or correct.

Comparing Superman And Man Of Steel
In prior Superman movies, it is common knowledge that Superman is a character that resembles
Christ. In Man of Steel, this idea is really apparent in the viewers mind. Much like Christ,
mankind rejects Clark Kent at an early age. The passage from Isaiah, which also relates a lot to
Superman, reads, He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with
pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.
Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering.. .He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not
open his mouth: he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep beföre its shearers is silent,
so he did not open his mouth. In Man of Steel. Clark grows up as a farmer... Show more content on

As a boy, in Clark s core he seems to know he s not of this world, but he realizes he is there for a
purpose/ He cannot restrain himself from helping others and saving lives. All of these things are
clear parallels to the life of
Jesus, whose mother too un erstood she was carrying the savior of mankind. When Jesus
Pidoto 2 was younger, he was rejected just like Superman. ThГ© two are more similar than what
meets the eye.
(When Clark reaches the age of 33, he encounters a computerized simulation of hiS biological
father s personality. The simulation tells him his purpose in this world is to. lay down your life:
It also tells Clark that he s not from this world but is in the world and therefore embodies both
worlds. This is a parallel to Christ being both Man and God at the same time. The simulation of
Clark s father also tells him he is the bridge between these people to another world. Similarly,
Jesus is the bridge, or mediator, between God and Man. Just like Jesus, who was crucified at age
33, Clark realizes he must save the world at this same age. When Lois Lane is hurt, Clark tells her
he has the ability to heal her, which he does. Of course, we know Jesus has performed

Andy Warhol Interpretation
The movie Superstar: The Life and Times of Andy Warhol describes his work as being focused on

drugs, and beautiful people. All these of these aspects are a part of Andy Warhol s personal life
and the
popular culture of the 1960s. Deeply rooted in the popular culture of the time were the ideas of
images,
power and politics, all of which are shown through his work.
Representation is, as described in Practices of Looking , is the use of language and images in order

Campbell s Soup Cans exemplifies the same ideas of representation. As Warhol explained, the soup
cans were a part of his previous personal life, they were something that he had for lunch every single
day as a child. The Campbell s cans relate to Magritte because both painting merely represent the
image
that is shown. Just as the pipe is not actually a pipe, the soup cans aren t actually soup cans. Both as
representations of aspects of the current culture. They create meaning, maybe evoke a memory.
One of Andy s pieces, The Nose Job illustrates the idea behind the myth of photographic truth. The
myth is the idea that while a photo is supposed to offer a truth , there are always several truths and
limitations that come with a photograph. This idea explains that the truth of a photo is actually a
myth
and not a truth at all. The artistic piece by Andy depicts two images, one with a woman whose nose

Dgs Is More Advantageous Than Pbg Or Ebg Structures
DGS is more advantageous than PBG or EBG structures:
(1) For implementing EBG structures, a very large area is required to implement the periodic
pattern and it is also very difficult to define the unit element of EBG structure whereas DGS
structures has properties similar to EBG and the geometry of DGS can be one or very few etched
structures which is very simpler and also does not require large area for implementation of it.
(2) DGS can be easily designed and implemented. It has higher precision with rectangular shaped
defect structures. Therefore it is very good option to extend its practical applications. In my project,
I have designed and simulated microstrip patch antenna at operating frequency 2.4GHz using HFSS
software .It has Substrate (FR4) having dielectric constants of 4.4.I have designed single patch
antenna without DGS, 2x1 array antenna and 4x1 array antenna without DGS ,4x1 array antenna
with DGS (Dumbbell shaped , Double Circular shaped, E shaped) and analyze the results. I analyze
that I god improved results in 4x1 array antenna configuration with E shaped DGS structure in terms
of Voltage Standing Wave Ratioof 1.12, Return loss of 22.12 dB, Bandwidth of 404 MHz, Gain of

The Omnipotent God
It is widely accepted in theism that God is omnipotent, meaning He is all powerful. This,
however, does not mean that God can make logical impossibilities possible, like making two
plus three equal six. It is important to understand that the idea is God can do all things possible.
For example, God cannot make a square circle. This is a fact, because if He were to make a circle
with four sides and four edges, it would no longer be, by definition, a circle. According to
philosophers, a omnipotent Godcan do all things that do not involve a contradiction, and it is that
such things cannot be done, [not] that God cannot do them. (Thomas Aquinas.)
The idea that it might not be humanly impossible to make two plus three equal six, but it is ... Show

For example, a omnipotent God could jump across the ocean. Though that is seemingly
physically impossible, it is not logically impossible, therefore is possible to this omnipotent God.
Just as my inability to draw a square circle does not mean I am terrible at geometry, God s
inability to make a square circle doesn t prove he is not omnipotent. In relation to the problem of
two plus three equaling six, it is not that God cannot make it true, but that it is just not possible
in terms of logic. We cannot determine God s omnipotence by his inability to make
contradictions true or impossibilities possible, to do so would not be fair. As Mavrodes said,
pseudo tasks, not falling within the realm of possibility are not objects of power at all, meaning
we cannot expect God to have an unlimited amount of power and if he did there would be no
sound logic left, there are limits to being all powerful. If impossibilities cannot be performed it
implies no limit on the power of God, and hence no defect in the doctrine of his omnipotence. Thus
to conclude, it is logically impossible for two plus three to equal six whether you are human and
finite, or Godly and infinite. Despite God s omnipotence, nothing can make a logical contradiction
true and omnipotence is not determined by not being able to make contradictions true. Omnipotence

The Court also stated that a claimant would have to demonstrate the bank had acted in bad faith
before civil liability would be entertained.
In its decision the Court of appeal did make reference to the dual pull on Banks in having to
comply with the heavy demands of a regulator whilst mitigating civil actions from potentially
disgruntled customers. It also made reference to a previous court case (De Silva v NatWest Bank
2006) where the court made specific reference to the meaning of the word suspect . Here, in
relations to the claim by Mr Shah that the reason for the suspicion itself was irrational, negligently
self induced and mistaken, the court confirmed that HSBC merely had to think that there was a
possibility, which was more than fanciful, that the relevant facts exist when completing its SAR.
On a wider note the Court also deemed that in the future having a suspicion may constitute a good
defence for Banks.

skepticism and resistance to change involved. Apple employees were sure to feel enormous

Thirdly, Lewin unheeded the role of politics and power in organizations and its conflictual

Model Bridges Transition Model, written by William Bridges in 1991, is based on how people
feel as they transition through changes (Evision, 2014). This model highlights three stages of

that begin as the initial stage of transition when people are presented with a change. This is an
uncomfortable stage as people are forced to give up something that is familiar to them. It is
common to experience many types of emotion in this stage such as fear, denial, and anger. Stage
two is the Neutral Zone where it is not uncommon to see confusion, impatience and uncertainty.
Experiencing resentment, low morale, decreased productivity, anxiety and skepticism is often seen
as the change is taking place. This is an important

Wilfred Owen s Life and Accomplishments
The First World War not only reshaped boundaries, watched empires rise and fall, but it also saw
a drastic change in the literary art, and the view of war and all its glory . With authors such as
Wilfred Owen, the world was beginning to get exposed to the brutality of war from the front
line. Like most poets of his time, Owen wrote in the modern period. And watch the white eyes
writhing in his face, His hanging face, like a devil s sick of sin If you could hear, at every jolt,
the blood Come gargling from the froth corrupted lungs (Dulce et Decorum Est). This gruesome
line paints a picture of a gas attack. Although his life on earth was cut short, Owen has truly made a

GAS! GAS! (Owen) is a cry of warning, Quick, boys! An ecstasy of fumbling (Owen), this is not
a description of slow nerves but, it is a description of exhausted soldiers, Men marched asleep...
All went lame, all blind Drunk with fatigue (Owen) and due to this extreme physical and mental
exhaustion the soldiers are deaf even to the hoots of gas shells dropping softly behind. (Owen)
The ecstasy of fumbling describes all the soldiers, waking from exhaustion into extreme fear,
trying to hurriedly put on their gas masks to save their own lives. Lines 12 14 compares
succumbing to poison gas to drowning. Symptoms of chlorine or phosgene gas are well
described. The misty panes and thick green light, As under a green sea, I saw him drowning
(Owen), are accurate descriptions of the green poison gas covering the land. Medically speaking
the gas causes lungs to fill with fluid and the gassed soldiers drown from liquid in their own
lungs. The phrase gargling from the froth corrupted lungs (Owen), describes the gassed lungs

Persuasive Against Racial Profiling
Judging a book by its cover is one of the most common yet worst mistakes a person can make.
Racial profiling is judging a person by their skin color, and not only does this lead you to false
ideas about that person, but also hurts that person you re judging. Shoshana Hebshi was judged;
she was targeted because of her Arab background and the way she looked. Due to her experience,
she is now filing lawsuits against the federal agencies that accused her and working to stop racial
profiling. Racial profiling is wrong and in order bring it to an end, Hebshi shouldn t stop with
filing lawsuits against the federal agencies but continue to gain support from similar ideological
interest groups as well as congressional support. With support from each part of the Iron Triangle,
racial profiling could be put to an end.
Imagine being accused, strip searched, scared, alone and trapped in a filthy prison cell all for
nothing. On September 11, 2011 this was Shoshana Hebshi, a woman who was of Arab descent
and therefore automatically a target. She and two other men were on a flight to Detroit when
they were suspected because of their skin color. Hebshi claims that she was not told of anything
nor even why she was being taken. She was placed in a cell, where she was ordered to strip
naked, squat, and cough while an officer looked at her. Shoshana Hebshi was completely innocent
and had done nothing wrong, yet she was being interrogated and treated as if though she were a
terrorist. She was

Insensitive Portrayal of Society and Cultuer in Disney Films
The Not So Wonderful World of Disney
The Wonderful World of Disney has been a part of America for as long as I can remember. With its
movies, television shows, songs, theme parks, toys, and fictional characters,
Disney is the epitome of children s entertainment. Disney serves as one of the largest sources of
entertainment to Americans, which is why it reigns as a commercial success and influence in our
country. According to Henry Giroux, a popular critic of the Walt DisneyCompany, Disney s
immense success also represents the power of the culture industries to mediate and influence almost
every aspect of our lives (19). However, does Disney stand for pure and innocent entertainment, or
does it carry alternative motives that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Males are usually the heroes, the villains, and the parent figures in Disney movies. If men are
always the heroes, then women are always the ones who have to be rescued. Females in Disney
films lack the ability to save their own lives. The negative influence comes with males who play
the typical bad guy roles. Faherty explains that the prevalence of males in villainous roles
should be analyzed for its potential negative impact on children and their relationships with caring
male adults (19). Along with heroes and villains, males seem to dominate the parent figures as well.
In her book Deconstructing Disney, Eleanor Byrne explains the phenomena that the female
characters in most Disney movies typically exist as teenaged girls with no mother.
She points out that in the instance of The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast, Ariel s mother
is never mentioned, neither is Belle s; in subsequent films, Princess Jasmine is motherless in
Aladdin, Pocahontas bonds with her father by grieving over her dead mother, and
Quasimodo s mother dies on the steps of Notre Dame in the opening sequence of The
Hunchback of Notre Dame (Byrne 66 67). All of these examples illustrate the presence of teenaged
girls who build relationships with their fathers but are left to grow without a mother.
Some critics argue that children do not learn the proper value of a mother from viewing Disney
movies such as these.

3d Printing Has A Huge Future
3D Printing
One Emerging Technology field that is soon to change the game is 3D Printing. Though 3D
Printers have been around since the 1980 s, it hasn t been widely accessible or used until now.
This is due to the advances in technology, which allow 3D Printers to be created in a smaller form
factor and used at a much cheaper price. Throughout this paper, I will further go through more
reason why I believe 3D printing has a huge future. This paper s topics are broken up into various
paragraphs, which will discuss technology specifications, business value, examples of usage,
competitive value, and my analysis and perspective of 3D Printing technology.
Technology Specifications. As stated in the previous paragraph, the earliest known 3D Printers
have been around since the 1980 s. In 1984, advances made on the inkjet concept of printing
transmuted into printing with materials. The concept is closely related to the inkjet concept but
during the early stages of 3D printing, manufactures could not produce the necessary equipment
at a cheap enough price in order for the 3D printing phenomena to lift off. If you fast forward 20
years you will see that technology has made a huge leap. This leap allowed for the necessary
advances of the 3D Printing industry that allowed for cheaper printer production cost. The
following is a brief description of how 3D Printers work. Typical 3D Printers are composed of about
5 different parts: laser source, elevator, vat, layered part, and

Self-portraits
Each artist is an individual with a unique style, and although these styles can be similar in practice
the individuality of the artist often proves the discriminating factor for a successful artwork. Self
portraits are beneficial when looking at the individuality of the artist as there are two aspects to
look at the artist s style, and the artist s view of him/herself. The latter can provide a brief insight
into the mental situation of the artist as well as any apparent influencing factors of the artwork.
This view can often also include fragmental insights into the society and culture of the time.

The most common of these portrayed garments were the generic Berets that have now been
typically associated with the common artist as a stereotype. Looking at the untitled self portrait
of 1657 (Figure 1) you can see Rembrandt s attention to detail and his persistence to achieve life
likeness. He has built up the wrinkled brow, the puckers of skin, in very detailed and effective
passages of reddish colours. You can see the application of chiaroscuro in this painting which is
obviously intentional as even his clothes, including fashionable beret, are dark to help with the
distribution of light and dark with the focus being on his face. This self portrait is one I consider
to be among his best. This work provides an insight into Rembrandt s indifference to self
consciousness as you can see an aged, wrinkled man with a large broad nose and gray wisps of
hair, all of which he has made no attempt to positively alter, he simply strives for realism in his
works and finds no reason to alter the physical reality of his work for mere aesthetic purposes. It
provides an insight into the culture of the time with the fashion state Rembrandt has depicted
himself in as well as the common chiaroscuro methods used in the painting which were common for
the culture or society of the time. The self portrait of 1630 (Figure 2) shows how even from early in
his career Rembrandt strove for realism in his works. You are once again struck by the honesty

Amy Lowell s Patterns
Amy Lowell defines the hopeful liberty of women in the 20th century through a central theme
in the poem Patterns . The woman s dreams of eluding from the boundaries that society has
placed on her fritters away when she learns of her lover s untimely death. She restricts herself
from feeling to make it seem as if there is not softness anywhere about her. Due to being
constricted by whalebone and brocade, the speaker feels like she is forced to live up to the rules
that society enforces upon her. The numerous images that the speaker uses in this poem like the
fluid motions of the flowers and water drops, the dressand her daydreams of her lover all play an
important part in developing the theme of Freedom. At the beginning of Patterns , the speaker
illustrates daffodils dancing freely in the wind. This use of imagery is a tool to appeal to the
audiences sense of sight, these flowers are given movement, and they are described as, blowing,
and Fluttering in the breeze, This description produces a sense of flexibility. The womanhas a desire
to be like the flowers, self confident and carefree. The second stanza of the poem begins with the
woman describing the water in the marble fountain. The plashing of water drops demonstrates
liquid in motion. She notices such little details in a fountain which shows how much the woman
aspires to be free and able to move about as she wishes. The buoyant movement of the flowers and
the water represents a way of life that

Segmental Vitiligo
To this day, the best birthday gift I have ever received is a disease.
The day was November 14th, 2005. Being the curious and (very) nerdy child that I was, spending
my sixth birthday in the doctor s office wasn t the worst thing ever. And so, a scrawny Indian boy
sat in the office of a well respected dermatologist, next to a caring mother who had wrestled
through the day with her limited knowledge of English. Little did I know that this glorious sixth
birthday was the day that would shape the rest of my life; this was the day that I was diagnosed
with non segmental vitiligo. At the time, I never understood the distraught look on my mother s
face as she heard the diagnosis. I mean, the doctor said I had the same condition as Michael
Jackson, so didn t that mean I was pretty much set to be the King of Pop? Childish delusions
aside, it wasn t until middle school that I would fully understand the repercussions of vitiligo,
which appeared on my face in the form of milky white patches around my eyes. The disease itself
was completely benign, but what I failed to foresee was the toll it would take on my social life and,

Expanding Our Lunch Period Essay
Expanding our Lunch Period
We re talking about our kids futures. Our schools need to be teaching our kids how to be healthy.
Nadine Burke Harris. Nadine Burke is an American pediatrician. She is the founder and CEO of
the Center for Youth Wellness. This facility focuses on children who have had bad childhood
experiences. Mrs. Harris is an educated woman on what children need to have in order to be
healthy so we should take her advice. A thirty minute lunchperiod is too short, therefore we should
make it longer.
Students cannot finish their lunch in the amount of time we are given which causes us to be
wasteful. Since lunch is only thirty minutes, I do not have enough time to finish my lunch. For
example, if I have a sandwich in my lunch, I end up throwing at least half of it into the garbage.
Throwing half of your lunch out is not only wasting the food, but the money you spent. If my dad
knew how much of my lunch I wasted he would not be happy because he is buying my food.
Children in Africa don t have enough food to nourish their bodies, meanwhile we are wasting
perfectly good food that could save a child s life in need of food. Every 5 seconds a child dies due
to hunger and 1.3 billion tons of food is wasted every year around the globe (in text citation). ...

The Lynching By Claude Mckay
The Lynching Analysis Chloe Chrysikopoulos How to Read a Poem ARTL 100 October 31, 2014
As Ida B Wells said, Our country s national crime is lynching. It is not the creature of an hour, the
sudden outburst of uncontrolled fury, or the unspeakable brutality of an insane mob. Claude
McKay in his sonnet The Lynching describes the gruesome reality of a lynching and how it is not
the creature of an hour, the sudden outburst of uncontrolled fury... but simply white men, women,
and children who carried out this act of cruelty and celebrated it without remorse. McKay uses
various sounds and rhythmic devices to reflect the intensity of the horrific images depicted. The
sound devices combined with the symbolism, allusion, and dark imagery illustrate the violent
crimes committed against the African Americans. This poem was published in 1922 after slavery
had ended however hatred and violence toward African Americans continued. This sonnet is about
a lynching and the attitude of the white population. The first quatrain explains what happens to the
victim after the lynching. McKay uses the words spirit, heaven, and father to describe the
religious experience of the victim after his death (lines 1 2). The author portrays the lynched man
as a Christ like figure who ascended to high heaven and is welcomed by God, his father. And at the
same time God rejects the white men, women, and children who were lynchers because their awful

Essay about Structural Change and Australian Economy
Structural Change and Australian Economy Structural change is the change in the pattern of
production in an economy as certain products, processes of production and industries disappear and
are replaced by others. The past century has seen the relative decline of agricultural and
manufacturing industries, and the rise of services and new technology sectors. Structural change
can be caused by a wide range of economic influences including changes in the pattern of consumer
demand and technological change. The speed of structural change depends on the ability of an
economy or industry to adjust quickly. People s natural resistance to change and government

Deregulation of industries has been an important part of the microeconomic reform policies for the
Australian economy. For example in the agricultural sector, marketing boards which were often the
only buyer and seller of farm output have been dismantled. In the wheat, egg and dairy industries
deregulation has allowed a market economy, free of excessive central control, improve efficiencies
and competitiveness by forcing inefficient operators out of the markets and the remaining operators
to adopt technological change in order to survive. Deregulation has also been introduced in the
financial sector, the transport industry and in the telecommunications industry. In the case of the
telecommunications industry which was once dominated by one monopoly provider, telecom
(Telstra) the market was opened up to Optus and Vodafone before being opened up to full
competition. This competition helped reduce telecommunication costs dramatically, benefiting
many other industries and the overall competitiveness of the Australian market. The improvement
of competition across the whole economy was the main objective of the governments National
Competition Policy. This policy included the Corporatisation and Privatisation of Public Trading

The Effects Of Climate And Low Nutritional Status Of...
For more than a century, there has been a heated debate if humans, thru the usage of anthropogenic
fire regimes and direct influence on the extinction of mega faunas, affected the overall environment
in Australia. The scholars that are against these accusations argue that the change developed due to
the effects of climateand low nutritional status of Australian soils. In addition, they also argue that
the evidence provided by the scholars who think humanaffected environment are inconclusive and
not convincing enough. One of the issues is interpreting the information that certain studies
showcase. In many instances, it can say humans are to blame, but also that they aren t to blame.
However, based on the information presented in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, we can conclude that there was an impact on ecosystem by humans. Correlative
evidence can be found regarding rapid extinction in Queensland (Turney et al., 2008; Gillespie et
al., 2012), where there was an abrupt decline in Spororomiella fungal spores indicative of
megahebrivores. Furthermore, since the arrival of humans in Australia, one of the main sources of
obtaining food was hunting mega faunas, which substantially decreased their number and led to
their extinction. Beside hunting, the humans picked fruits and other type of food that might have
been the same source of eating for mega faunas, which additionally pressured them and made theme
extinct. Also, the modification of the fire regime also affected them. To give an example, through
the usage of OSL and uranium series methord to date the megafaunal s remain, the large flightless
bird Genyornis newtoni is one of the many animals that extinct by the hand of human (Miller et al.
(1999) and Johnson et al.(1999)). By the removal of megafaunas, it would improve opportunities
for establishment of trees and shrubs (Bond and Keeley, 2005;
Staver et al., 2009). On the other hand, scholars who are against this hypothesis argue that the
process of extinction was underway for some time before the arrival of humans and that the climate
change was crucial to the extermination of the mega faunas. There is a strong

John Deere Organizational Structure
John Deere organizational structure is methodical and unified. The above chart does not totally
focus on the lengths of the structure but these are the heads of each division. John Deere has a
total of 8 divisions which are agricultural, constructions, turf, forestry, financial services, power
systems, parts services, and intelligent solutions. Each division has the ability to concentrate on
their specific needs and develop the next best thing for John Deere. The perfect example is if the
agricultural team could develop their tractors to either widen or shrink the space between the
wheels by pushing a button. It allows the farmers to adapt to the situation and not have to find a
way to get around a certain row. Even though it could be fairly expensive to hire a personal of the

There are many unknown factors which cannot be found within the pages of the Gregson vs

the ship was located when the slaves were thrown overboard, and the names of the slaves whose
lives were lost during the incident. Philip clarifies this in her interview with Patricia Saunders

Why Sports Have Been Such A Good Analysis
Another reason why sports have been such a good part of my life is because I fill my time
playing rather than getting in trouble. Throughout school one of my biggest motivations to not
goof off in class and to behave my best in school is sports. As a student athlete, I know if I get in
trouble at school then I could get in trouble with my coach and not be able to play in the next
game. By getting in trouble, I m taking myself out of the game and letting down my teammates.
Nowadays most kids I know who are not involved in a sportare most likely not motivated to
succeed in anything or even care about anything in life. They spend their time drinking, doing
drugs and partying or breaking the law. They have no guidance or a positive way to fill

Christmas Carol
What is Charles Dickens moral message and how does he communicate it to the reader in A
Christmas Carol ?
Christmas carol is a novel written by Charles Dickens (1812 1870) during the Victorian times in
London. For me to explore the moral messages I feel it is important to acknowledge exactly what
the message is. Charles Dickens throughout the novel communicates; Charity, goodwill, family,
kindliness and humility as moral messages, however, I personally feel Charles Dickens most
powerful and important messages are Goodwill, Family and Charity however I will still look at all
moral messages as they all play an important role in A ChristmasCarol.

From this reply Scrooge is reminded from his words in Stave 1; if he be like to die he had better
do it and decrease the surplus population. Scrooge is humbled by the Cratchitt s gratitude over
what little they have and he learns that as long as you have family you don t need money.
Lastly, family is a moral message to which dickens tries to communicate with the reader and this
is shown in stave 3. The ghost takes Scrooge to places outside of the London area he sees a
family of miners in a hut on a barren moor, two lighthouse keepers and sailors on a ship; and they
all know they have got each other but no matter what they will celebrate as much as they want, even
though there not with their family they have their friends. This all made them aware to act more
kindly to one another as its Christmas.
Fred Scrooge s nephew is having a Christmas party and Scrooge is taken and shown by the sprit.
Fred explains that Scrooge is to be pitied, not despised. And his money does him no good; Fred
then explains, his offences carry their own punishment . The guesses of the party then play a
game to find the identity of a thing to which questions asked can only be answered to Yes or No.
The guests are then amused by the fact when Fred wife sister guesses that the mystery object is
Scrooge. The mystery object was described as unwanted and this made Scrooge leave and he had

Jack Sparrow And The Golden Age Of Piracy
The Golden Age of Piracy is the subject of many Hollywood films. One of the most popular film
series in recent years is the series Pirates of the Caribbean. But how accurately does the movie
capture the Golden Age of Piracy that spanned from the 1650 s to the 1730 s? In order to answer
this question, a team of researchers will examine the mythology, the pirate s code, the weapons,
and compare real pirates to the main protagonist, Jack Sparrow in the movie to see if he closely
resembles the pirates of real life. Pirates are associated with many things including treasure, their
code, their weapons, and the mythology. In the movie the Black Pearl s crew kidnap the daughter
of the governor of Port Royal, Jamaica (under English rule). Jack Sparrow... Show more content on

Chain and bar shots were used to rip through sails, masts, and rigging. They were loaded into
cannons. The chain shot had two balls with a chain in between the balls, the bar shot had a bar
between two metal balls. Round shots were little balls put in cannons that had a splintering
effect on the ship, these shots were aimed for the hull. In the movie there were a few shots of
Barbossa s crew stuffing in all of these shots and shooting them at Captain Jack sparrows ship.
They also included how much damage these shots made on the ships in the movie. This next
weapon is a classic pirate weapon, a cannon. They were huge metal almost like shooters that
could be loaded with things to shoot at ships. This weapon was spotted many times in the movie
during ship fights. Cutlery, like forks and knives, were stuffed in cannons if pirates didn t have
any chain, bar, or round shots. They stuffed anything in a cannon that looked sharp and ready to do
some damage. Captain Jack Sparrow s crew did not have any weapons for the cannons so they used
cutlery in their cannons, this action is historically

The Shah s Adaptation And Endorsement Of Islam
Throughout the history of present day Iran it has been contested whether the Shi i ulama or the
Shah are the logical leaders of the community. It is true that the ulama have gained control of Iran,
and that Islam changed much in Iran, but in some respects continuity from the past was far stronger
than the new concepts (Frye 36) due to the fact that the power of the Shah remained for hundreds of
years after the introduction of Islam. The Iranian people have a long history of traditions and
culture and even when Islam spread throughout the country it was adapted to include some of the
Iranian traditions. The most significant example of this is the Shah s adaptation and endorsement
of Islam. The long history, tradition, and the decline of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The office of the Shah has had such an impact that one may find in the literature and in the art of
Iran evidence for a powerful and continuing charisma of kingship, even through great upheavals
and changes in the history of the land (Frye 36). The Shahs in pre Islamic Persia established
legitimacy by charisma and by being a religious leader because the people believed Ahura Mazda
confers on the king charisma and special wisdom. The king s duty was to enforce the law, social
order, and righteousness, however if social unrest occurred, it was a sign that the dynasty had
lost divine favor. The Iranian theory of kingship lasted for a long periods of time because the
Shahs who ruled were charismatic and successful at establishing legitimacy, and if not they were
able to be disposed of by the religious priests and nobles. The Shahs in post Islamic Iran needed
to learn to establish legitimacy in a region where the people were disposing of Zoroastrian beliefs
and converting to the ShД« a ideology of Islam. The Shah that managed to merge traditional role
of a Shah and the religious aspects of Islam was ShДЃh IsmДЃКїil. This Shah needed to establish
his legitimacy and did so in two important and relevant ways. First, ShДЃh IsmДЃКїil used the the
ancient Persian concept of kingship which was expressed in the concept of the king being the
shadow of God on Earth because he believed that he was divine and had the right to rule because of

A Bar At Folies Bergere Summary
In Eduard Manet s A Bar At Folies Bergere, Manet uses luxurious imagery and the symbol of the
mirror and the locket to juxtapose the disconsolate bartender and the effervescent playgoers, leading
the viewer to conclude that materialistic objects cannot take away from one s inner tribulation. A
plausible theory my group had discovered was that the womanseemed to have aspects of the higher
or richer class juxtaposed around her, yet she still seemed troubled. This leads us to the idea that
she possibly had all these items of wealth she wanted something more. This bartender wanted a
new beginning, a better life per say, a life where she no longer wanted to be an outsider. If you

Everything he paints and where he places objects has meaning. Every seemingly small or
extraordinary detail could change the whole message the viewer receives. Behind the woman,
we see a mirror, and in that mirror we can see that in front of her is a man in dark clothing and a
top hat. He looks like a rich man and many believe the man is Manet. We can also see that the
mirror is oddly distorted, if it was actually behind her, her reflection would be directly behind her
not to the side. We know that this choice was intentional, she also is not facing her self. This
could be because she does not want to look at what she has become. Maybe she does want to be
rich but is not proud of what she has done to get try and get there. She is not facing herself
because she no longer knows who she is. She doesn t look to herself because she has lost sight of
herself in the vanity. She wants more and more but as she gets more she loses more of herself.
This is why her reflection is not behind her. Its to the side to show that her inner self is leaving
her. Her inner self is becoming disconnected. She s losing the true her as she morphs into this
upper class woman. We don t see the man in black in the foreground because she has lost sight of
him too. She lost herself and him in the process. The mirror is her past, the past she s left behind
and the past she slowly losing. The message the painter is trying to portray is even though you

The Noise Of Sound Waves Through Instruments And How The...
Introduction
Music takes up a large part of our lives, most people listen to it almost every day. It is one of the
only medians between People from completely different walks of life, connecting us all through
major symphonies or just beautifully simple chords. Though many people enjoy the emotion filled
sound that travel to their eardrums, most do not know exactly why. People also do not know
why they dislike some musical sounds. I am very curious as to why there are melodies
considered good or bad. Just as most people, I listen to music on the daily basis. I am also invested
in learning how to play the electric guitar which influences my interest in this topic greatly. I want
to find out why exactly different chords are considered either harmonic or discordant by looking
into the consonance and dissonance in music. In my research on this topic, I will focus mainly on
the emission of sound waves through instruments and how the notes come together. Sound travels
as a transverse wave which means it takes the same shape as sine waves, in mathematics. These
waves are used to produce different volume, frequencies, and timbre in instruments. In music, sound
waves have different frequencies which change the in pitch of notes, and different amplitudes,
which change the volume of notes.
Since I will be focusing on the changing of frequencies in notes, I will represent these changes by
modeling different chords, and notes by using sine waves. This will allow me to demonstrate how

The Effects Of Prenatal Hormones On The Developing Fetus
Why some people are attracted to members of their own sex whereas others are attracted to
members of the opposite sex is no known cause or reason. There is belief to it possible contributing
from genetics, hormonal and the environmental influences. One study stated that there is a 50
percent chance that if one identical twin is homosexual or bisexual, the other twin is too. Similar
findings lead that some researchers estimate that sexual orientationis 30 to 70 percent genetic
(Mustanski, Chivers, Bailey, 2002). Another research suggests that sexual orientation is impacted
by a gene or genes found on the X chromosome. Though genetic tendencies for homosexualitymay
be passed from mothers to their children (Rahman Wilson, 2003). During human evolution,
homosexuality was developed to minimize competition between males for a limited number of
potential female mates (Schulling, 2004). A different possibility is that prenatal hormone levels
influence the developing fetus (Levay, 2011). According to the prenatal hormonal theory of
homosexuality, some male fetuses are exposed to too little testosterone. Similarly, some female
fetuses are exposed to too much testosterone. These differences, in turn, can impact sexual
orientation (Mustanski, Chivers, Bailey, 2002). Regardless, homosexuality is not caused by
hormone imbalances in adulthood; the hormone levels of most gay men and lesbians are within the
normal range (Banks Gartrell, 1995). Hormonal imbalances

literacy programs. For purposes of this study, up to five years of data from five cohorts of grade
two students from a suburban school district in Connecticut who participated in an early literacy

ability to read at or above grade level as they progress through school. Further, those students in the
cohort who were near grade level reading benchmarks and did not receive any additional

Equality For Women In The Early 20 s
Every individual in this world requires the same necessities in order to survive. Despite this, men
seem to receive a much greater advantage in society. For centuries women have been fighting for
gender equality. Although this constant battle still lives on, the growth society has had on gender
equality is remarkable. At the beginning of the 20th century women were expected to have one
role in society; marry in her early 20s, start a family and dedicate her entire life to caring for her
family. Towards the end of the 20th century, entering the workforce became a daily routine for a
majority of the femalepopulation. In addition women were getting married later and only having

Similarities Between Rosa Parks And Martin Luther King
I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of
former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood. Martin Luther
King Jr spoke these words at the Civil Rights March on August 28, 1963. The words above may
seem worthless, but to the people in attendance at the protest, they meant the world. It gave them
hope, perseverance, a shimmer of light in the dark times. Racism is still with us. But it is up to
us to prepare our children for what they have to meet, and, hopefully, we shall overcome. This is

and Rosa Parks faced many struggles during their battle to stop segregation. Although the
journey was tough, they didn t give up until they reached their goal of being seen as an equal in
our society. Similarly, they were both arrested several times just because they stood up for
themselves. For instance, Rosa Parks was arrested on December 1, 1955 when she refused to
give up her seat on the bus. In 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. was sent to jail because he protested
the treatment of african americans in Birmingham, Alabama. Not only does this go against his
right to freedom of petition, but it also goes against his right to freedom of speech. Even though
Parks faced many issues because of her race, she also faced many personal problems such as an
ulcer that caused her to quit her job in Detroit. Basically, an ulcer is a hole in the lining of your
stomach that can be caused by stress and poor nutrition. Both dealt with many internal and external

Compare And Contrast My Last Duchess And Porphyria s Lover
Robert Browning (7 May 1812 12 December 1889) was an English poet and scriptwriter whose
mastery of the dramatic monologue made him one of the most prominent Victorian poets. Within
his collection were two of his most renowned works,
My Last Duchess and Porphyria s Lover . In My Last Duchess the speaker is an
Italian Duke who is speaking to the ambassador about his daughter, who he intends to marry. The
Duke then begins to flaunt his gallery of art with the intent to impress. He then comes across the
painting of his last duchess in which openly speaks about having her murdered for lack of respect
for him. Porphyria s Lover is a dramatic monologue that describes the events that eventually lead
to the death of Porphyria. The speaker lives in a cottage in the countryside. His lover, a gorgeous
young woman named Porphyria, comes in out of a storm and attempts to bring cheer to the
cottage. She caresses the speaker, offering him her bare shoulder. Realizing that she will eventually
give in to society s pressures, and wanting to conserve the moment, he wraps her hair around her
neck and strangles her. He then adjusts her corpse, opening the eyes and propping the body up
against his side. He sits with her body this way the entire night, the speaker declaring that God has
not yet punished him. Although these two poems share many similarities, the differences can be
discovered through the analysis of the language, themes, and the feelings the reader experiences
while reading these poems. As a result of these poems being published in a collection, the structure
of the two poems shares many attributes. Although the rhyme scheme is different to add a unique
feel to the poem, they both consist of 1 long stanza. Doing this, Browning added a sense of
suspense to each poem by having the reader continuously read without any real transitions.
Rhyming couplets show control and the rhyme scheme in My Last Duchess, is rhyming couplets the
whole way through, which shows that the Duke evidently had controlled the whole poem. In
Porphyria s Lover, there are only rhyming couplets in the end, as he kills her, this is the only time
in the whole poem where he has control. Both poems contain a multitude of caesuras within

  • 2. Criticism In Virginia Woolf s To The Lighthouse Virginia Woolf is held to be one of the great feminist writers of modern times. In To the Lighthouse, we find Woolf s presentation of a family which is at war with itself, while surrounded by war in the world. In this paper, I would attempt a psychoanalytic reading of the text, based on Freud s views. The paper would focus on the relationship between Mr Ramsey and his son, James, from the perspective of the Oedipus Complex. James would also be looked at separately to bring out his character from Freudian theory of the stages of the development of the boy from boyhood to adulthood. The lighthouse would be taken as a symbol, and be interpreted psychoanalytically. The war and its impact on the family would be looked upon to have created certain... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Freud, every male child, before the puberty stage, that is, in the third stage, which he calls the Phallic Stage , has got affectionate feelings for his mother, and seeing the father in possession of the mother, develops a feeling of bitterness towards his father. The little ego of the boy makes him see his father as a stronger force, which is there where it wants to be beside the mother. In Freud s words, A single idea of general value dawned on me. I have found, in my own case too, [the phenomenon of] being in love with my mother and jealous of my father, and now I consider it a universal event in early childhood, even if not so early in children who have been made hysterical....If this is so, we can understand the gripping power of Oedipus Rex, in spite of all the objections that reason raises against the presupposition of fate; and we can understand why the later drama of fate was bound to fail so miserably (Masson 271 272). James has got lots of bitter feelings for his father, for he feels he always hinders him. It is the mother who treats him with affection, and he, as per the boy suffering from the Oedipus Complex, turns towards the mother for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pete Rose, one of the greatest players to ever step foot on a baseball field, couldn t have said it better. I would do anything to play baseball because to me it s just the most important thing in life. One of the most influential people in my life is my Grandma. She is always telling me how great of a young man I am and how she always has faith in what i m doing. She has also taught me many lessons about being a better person. This made me realize the importance of having a good work ethic, and how having a good work ethic will get you very far in life. But even in 10 years i still want to remain very close with my friends from High School. We are together so much it s crazy to think one day we won t see each other everyday. There is rarely a weekend where we don t either stay overnight or go longboarding for 4 5 hours. I want to continue riding longboards as long as possible especially with friends because its so fun. But if the MLB path does not work out i want to continue playing baseball also as it is one of my passions in life. In order to be able to play in the MLB I would have to go to a pretty good baseball school. My dream school would be USC, they have a very good baseball program and if I played well would definitely have a shot of making it in the MLB. But another good baseball school would be UW Whitewater, they have won 2 national championships in the last 8 years. Most professional baseball players make around $4.4 million, while still getting $100 a day for meals. This would be a very good wage while still having the entire winter off from doing anything other than workouts. Pete Rose, 4,256 hits later, always hustling no matter what. • 4. The Importance Of Ancient Traditions On Modern Culture This class was extremely interesting. Being an older student, I have had the opportunity to live all over the United States from the west coast to the east coast and many places in between, including a year each in Germany and Hawaii. I have been exposed to many different cultures, religions, peoples, lifestyles, and beliefs. But, this sociologyclass has exposed me to new ideas which is what learning is supposed to accomplish. Three things that stood out for me is how ancient traditions are still part of modern cultures, how some traditions within a culturemay be viewed as abusive by other people, and how defining something as deviant is not always the same as time goes by. With the many cultures that are found throughout the world, many spanning thousands of years, it is not unusual to find that old traditions still influence modern culture. One example of this is the practice of Chado or the way of tea which is the ancient art of the Japanese tea ceremony that is still performed to this day in a ceremony that can last for hours (Ancient Rituals of Japan). The Japanese society also still celebrates many other ancient rituals and festivals, such as the Hanami Matsuri, where families gather under the cherry trees and enjoy the beauty as the blossoms fall. Finally, the ancient culture within the country of India, which was the birthplace of Hinduism and Buddhism many centuries ago, still has about 84 percent of the population that are Hindu (Zimmerman). • 5. The Importance Of Being A Team For A Sporting Team Essay Put me in Coach.. As children we are taught to include everyone because it is not nice to leave people out. If this is a practice we are taught from a very early age, why is it okay to change that just to win a sporting event? There is an understanding that when you are in middle/high school, there will be tryouts for a sporting team. The children who are good enough, make the team, those who are not, get cut. With the understanding that some players skill level is higher than others, the playing time may not be the same. With that being said, if you are good enough to make the team, then why would you not be good enough to play for your team at least once every game? We all know the benefits of being on a team, learning to cooperate, working together to achieve a goal, helps improve for communication skills and allows youth to exercise. But what if you make this team and don t ever get to play, are you still seeing these benefits to being on a team? If you tryout and make a school team, then all players should be allowed to play in and participate in every game. The debate is ongoing point of contention for parents and coaches. Playing time a thing to love or cause much heartache. Coaches tend to take a point of view that they are 1. They are there to win games 2. life is not fair and how will your athlete learn to deal with these negative emotions in the real world? Parents take the point of view that, this isn t a professional event, they all made the team why can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Coral Reef Bahamas The coral reef of the Bahamas is home to a large variety of different organisms including sponges, fish, anemones, sea stars, and crustaceans. They all use the reef as a form of resource for food, protection from predators, or a place to live (Harborne et al. 2006). However, coral reefs all around the world are in danger of depletion and destruction more now than ever (Richardson 1998). Damage to the coral reefis caused by a number of factors such as increasing temperatures or reduction of sea pH (van Hooidonk et al. 2013). These factors lead to an increase in diseases (Kuta and Richardson 2002; Zvuloni et al. 2009; Patterson et al. 2002; Gil Agudelo et al. 2004). Blotch, circular ring shaped lesions bordered by a faint yellow colouring distinguish Caribbean Yellow Band Disease (Santavy et al. 1999; Cervino et al. 2001). The lesions are slow progressing growing in size by only mm or cm a each month (Reeves 1994). The edges remain the yellow colour while the previously infected tissue will darken prior to the tissue being lost (Cervino et al. 2005). This disease is directly affecting important reef builders and therefore affecting the growth of the coral reef itself (NMFS 2001). Personal Statement On Social Responsibility Scrip Assessment Rhonda Allen L24906389 Professor Lunde Social Responsibility It is our responsibility as educators to teach our students how to be socially responsible adults. The ability of the adolescent to identify and define social responsibility is important in defining who they are, where they fit in the social world, and building confidence in their sense of agency. (Polk, nd) I want my students to be confident in who they are as individuals, my goal will be to nurture and push them to be all they want to be. I have been working on my paper since we wrote the draft, knowing that this paper is the biggest part of my grade has me doing everything I can to make sure the paper is completely to the best of my ability. Reflection: Some of the key aspects of philosophy included metaphysics, logic, and epistemology. Metaphysics is the study of existence. It answers the question What is? It includes everything that exists, as well as the nature of existence itself. Metaphysics is the foundation of philosophy. Without an explanation or an interpretation of the world around us, we would not be able to deal with reality. Logic is the study of reason or the study of arguments. Logic constructs ideas so that we are able to communicate certain concepts to each other by deducing them from a set of premises. (Braley, 2003, p. 10) Epistemology is the study of how we acquire knowledge. It answers the question How do we know? Epistemology is the explanation of how we think. It is required in order for us to be able to determine the difference between true and false. Epistemology is important aspect used to obtain knowledge of the world around us. • 9. Comparing Superman And Man Of Steel In prior Superman movies, it is common knowledge that Superman is a character that resembles Christ. In Man of Steel, this idea is really apparent in the viewers mind. Much like Christ, mankind rejects Clark Kent at an early age. The passage from Isaiah, which also relates a lot to Superman, reads, He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem. Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering.. .He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth: he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep befГ¶re its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth. As a boy, in Clark s core he seems to know he s not of this world, but he realizes he is there for a purpose/ He cannot restrain himself from helping others and saving lives. This is a parallel to Christ being both Man and God at the same time. The simulation of Clark s father also tells him he is the bridge between these people to another world. Similarly, Jesus is the bridge, or mediator, between God and Man. Just like Jesus, who was crucified at age 33, Clark realizes he must save the world at this same age. • 10. Andy Warhol Interpretation The movie Superstar: The Life and Times of Andy Warhol describes his work as being focused on sex, drugs, and beautiful people. All these of these aspects are a part of Andy Warhol s personal life and the popular culture of the 1960s. Deeply rooted in the popular culture of the time were the ideas of images, power and politics, all of which are shown through his work. Representation is, as described in Practices of Looking , is the use of language and images in order to create a meaning and viewer interpretation. This interpretation is a way for the audience to either better understand or alter their view of their world and reality. Andy Warhol s 32 Campbell s Soup Cans exemplifies the same ideas of representation. As Warhol explained, the soup cans were a part of his previous personal life, they were something that he had for lunch every single day as a child. The Campbell s cans relate to Magritte because both painting merely represent the image that is shown. Just as the pipe is not actually a pipe, the soup cans aren t actually soup cans. Both as representations of aspects of the current culture. They create meaning, maybe evoke a memory. One of Andy s pieces, The Nose Job illustrates the idea behind the myth of photographic truth. The myth is the idea that while a photo is supposed to offer a truth , there are always several truths and limitations that come with a photograph. This idea explains that the truth of a photo is actually a myth and not a truth at all. The artistic piece by Andy depicts two images, one with a woman whose nose

Dgs Is More Advantageous Than Pbg Or Ebg Structures DGS is more advantageous than PBG or EBG structures: (1) For implementing EBG structures, a very large area is required to implement the periodic pattern and it is also very difficult to define the unit element of EBG structure whereas DGS structures has properties similar to EBG and the geometry of DGS can be one or very few etched structures which is very simpler and also does not require large area for implementation of it. (2) DGS can be easily designed and implemented. It has higher precision with rectangular shaped defect structures. Therefore it is very good option to extend its practical applications. In my project, I have designed and simulated microstrip patch antenna at operating frequency 2.4GHz using HFSS software .It has Substrate (FR4) having dielectric constants of 4.4.I have designed single patch antenna without DGS, 2x1 array antenna and 4x1 array antenna without DGS ,4x1 array antenna with DGS (Dumbbell shaped , Double Circular shaped, E shaped) and analyze the results. • 13. The Omnipotent God It is widely accepted in theism that God is omnipotent, meaning He is all powerful. This, however, does not mean that God can make logical impossibilities possible, like making two plus three equal six. It is important to understand that the idea is God can do all things possible. For example, God cannot make a square circle. This is a fact, because if He were to make a circle with four sides and four edges, it would no longer be, by definition, a circle. According to philosophers, a omnipotent Godcan do all things that do not involve a contradiction, and it is that such things cannot be done, [not] that God cannot do them. (Thomas Aquinas.) The idea that it might not be humanly impossible to make two plus three equal six, but it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, a omnipotent God could jump across the ocean. Though that is seemingly physically impossible, it is not logically impossible, therefore is possible to this omnipotent God. Just as my inability to draw a square circle does not mean I am terrible at geometry, God s inability to make a square circle doesn t prove he is not omnipotent. In relation to the problem of two plus three equaling six, it is not that God cannot make it true, but that it is just not possible in terms of logic. We cannot determine God s omnipotence by his inability to make contradictions true or impossibilities possible, to do so would not be fair. As Mavrodes said, pseudo tasks, not falling within the realm of possibility are not objects of power at all, meaning we cannot expect God to have an unlimited amount of power and if he did there would be no sound logic left, there are limits to being all powerful. If impossibilities cannot be performed it implies no limit on the power of God, and hence no defect in the doctrine of his omnipotence. Thus to conclude, it is logically impossible for two plus three to equal six whether you are human and finite, or Godly and infinite. Despite God s omnipotence, nothing can make a logical contradiction true and omnipotence is not determined by not being able to make contradictions true. Omnipotence ... In its decision the Court of appeal did make reference to the dual pull on Banks in having to comply with the heavy demands of a regulator whilst mitigating civil actions from potentially disgruntled customers. It also made reference to a previous court case (De Silva v NatWest Bank 2006) where the court made specific reference to the meaning of the word suspect . Here, in relations to the claim by Mr Shah that the reason for the suspicion itself was irrational, negligently self induced and mistaken, the court confirmed that HSBC merely had to think that there was a possibility, which was more than fanciful, that the relevant facts exist when completing its SAR. Females in Disney films lack the ability to save their own lives. The negative influence comes with males who play the typical bad guy roles. Faherty explains that the prevalence of males in villainous roles should be analyzed for its potential negative impact on children and their relationships with caring male adults (19). Along with heroes and villains, males seem to dominate the parent figures as well. In her book Deconstructing Disney, Eleanor Byrne explains the phenomena that the female characters in most Disney movies typically exist as teenaged girls with no mother. She points out that in the instance of The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast, Ariel s mother is never mentioned, neither is Belle s; in subsequent films, Princess Jasmine is motherless in Aladdin, Pocahontas bonds with her father by grieving over her dead mother, and Quasimodo s mother dies on the steps of Notre Dame in the opening sequence of The Hunchback of Notre Dame (Byrne 66 67). All of these examples illustrate the presence of teenaged girls who build relationships with their fathers but are left to grow without a mother. Though 3D Printers have been around since the 1980 s, it hasn t been widely accessible or used until now. This is due to the advances in technology, which allow 3D Printers to be created in a smaller form factor and used at a much cheaper price. Throughout this paper, I will further go through more reason why I believe 3D printing has a huge future. This paper s topics are broken up into various paragraphs, which will discuss technology specifications, business value, examples of usage, competitive value, and my analysis and perspective of 3D Printing technology. Technology Specifications. As stated in the previous paragraph, the earliest known 3D Printers have been around since the 1980 s. In 1984, advances made on the inkjet concept of printing transmuted into printing with materials. The concept is closely related to the inkjet concept but during the early stages of 3D printing, manufactures could not produce the necessary equipment at a cheap enough price in order for the 3D printing phenomena to lift off. If you fast forward 20 years you will see that technology has made a huge leap. This leap allowed for the necessary advances of the 3D Printing industry that allowed for cheaper printer production cost. The following is a brief description of how 3D Printers work. • 35. Expanding Our Lunch Period Essay Expanding our Lunch Period We re talking about our kids futures. Our schools need to be teaching our kids how to be healthy. Nadine Burke Harris. Nadine Burke is an American pediatrician. She is the founder and CEO of the Center for Youth Wellness. This facility focuses on children who have had bad childhood experiences. Mrs. Harris is an educated woman on what children need to have in order to be healthy so we should take her advice. A thirty minute lunchperiod is too short, therefore we should make it longer. Students cannot finish their lunch in the amount of time we are given which causes us to be wasteful. Since lunch is only thirty minutes, I do not have enough time to finish my lunch. For example, if I have a sandwich in my lunch, I end up throwing at least half of it into the garbage. Throwing half of your lunch out is not only wasting the food, but the money you spent. If my dad knew how much of my lunch I wasted he would not be happy because he is buying my food. Children in Africa don t have enough food to nourish their bodies, meanwhile we are wasting perfectly good food that could save a child s life in need of food. Every 5 seconds a child dies due to hunger and 1.3 billion tons of food is wasted every year around the globe (in text citation). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 36. The Lynching By Claude Mckay The Lynching Analysis Chloe Chrysikopoulos How to Read a Poem ARTL 100 October 31, 2014 As Ida B Wells said, Our country s national crime is lynching. It is not the creature of an hour, the sudden outburst of uncontrolled fury, or the unspeakable brutality of an insane mob. Claude McKay in his sonnet The Lynching describes the gruesome reality of a lynching and how it is not the creature of an hour, the sudden outburst of uncontrolled fury... but simply white men, women, and children who carried out this act of cruelty and celebrated it without remorse. McKay uses various sounds and rhythmic devices to reflect the intensity of the horrific images depicted. The sound devices combined with the symbolism, allusion, and dark imagery illustrate the violent crimes committed against the African Americans. This poem was published in 1922 after slavery had ended however hatred and violence toward African Americans continued. This sonnet is about a lynching and the attitude of the white population. The first quatrain explains what happens to the victim after the lynching. McKay uses the words spirit, heaven, and father to describe the religious experience of the victim after his death (lines 1 2). The author portrays the lynched man as a Christ like figure who ascended to high heaven and is welcomed by God, his father. And at the same time God rejects the white men, women, and children who were lynchers because their awful sin remained still ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay about Structural Change and Australian Economy Structural Change and Australian Economy Structural change is the change in the pattern of production in an economy as certain products, processes of production and industries disappear and are replaced by others. The past century has seen the relative decline of agricultural and manufacturing industries, and the rise of services and new technology sectors. Structural change can be caused by a wide range of economic influences including changes in the pattern of consumer demand and technological change. The speed of structural change depends on the ability of an economy or industry to adjust quickly. People s natural resistance to change and government regulation often impedes the process of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Deregulation of industries has been an important part of the microeconomic reform policies for the Australian economy. For example in the agricultural sector, marketing boards which were often the only buyer and seller of farm output have been dismantled. In the wheat, egg and dairy industries deregulation has allowed a market economy, free of excessive central control, improve efficiencies and competitiveness by forcing inefficient operators out of the markets and the remaining operators to adopt technological change in order to survive. Deregulation has also been introduced in the financial sector, the transport industry and in the telecommunications industry. In the case of the telecommunications industry which was once dominated by one monopoly provider, telecom (Telstra) the market was opened up to Optus and Vodafone before being opened up to full competition. This competition helped reduce telecommunication costs dramatically, benefiting many other industries and the overall competitiveness of the Australian market. The improvement of competition across the whole economy was the main objective of the governments National Competition Policy. This policy included the Corporatisation and Privatisation of Public Trading Enterprises such as Australia Post and Telstra, competition reform in the professions, the opening up of access ... Correlative evidence can be found regarding rapid extinction in Queensland (Turney et al., 2008; Gillespie et al., 2012), where there was an abrupt decline in Spororomiella fungal spores indicative of megahebrivores. Furthermore, since the arrival of humans in Australia, one of the main sources of obtaining food was hunting mega faunas, which substantially decreased their number and led to their extinction. Beside hunting, the humans picked fruits and other type of food that might have been the same source of eating for mega faunas, which additionally pressured them and made theme extinct. The Shahs in pre Islamic Persia established legitimacy by charisma and by being a religious leader because the people believed Ahura Mazda confers on the king charisma and special wisdom. The king s duty was to enforce the law, social order, and righteousness, however if social unrest occurred, it was a sign that the dynasty had lost divine favor. The Iranian theory of kingship lasted for a long periods of time because the Shahs who ruled were charismatic and successful at establishing legitimacy, and if not they were able to be disposed of by the religious priests and nobles. In my research on this topic, I will focus mainly on the emission of sound waves through instruments and how the notes come together. Sound travels as a transverse wave which means it takes the same shape as sine waves, in mathematics. These waves are used to produce different volume, frequencies, and timbre in instruments. In music, sound waves have different frequencies which change the in pitch of notes, and different amplitudes, which change the volume of notes. The Effects Of Prenatal Hormones On The Developing Fetus Why some people are attracted to members of their own sex whereas others are attracted to members of the opposite sex is no known cause or reason. There is belief to it possible contributing from genetics, hormonal and the environmental influences. One study stated that there is a 50 percent chance that if one identical twin is homosexual or bisexual, the other twin is too. Similar findings lead that some researchers estimate that sexual orientationis 30 to 70 percent genetic (Mustanski, Chivers, Bailey, 2002). Another research suggests that sexual orientation is impacted by a gene or genes found on the X chromosome. Though genetic tendencies for homosexualitymay be passed from mothers to their children (Rahman Wilson, 2003). During human evolution, homosexuality was developed to minimize competition between males for a limited number of potential female mates (Schulling, 2004). A different possibility is that prenatal hormone levels influence the developing fetus (Levay, 2011). According to the prenatal hormonal theory of homosexuality, some male fetuses are exposed to too little testosterone. Similarly, some female fetuses are exposed to too much testosterone. These differences, in turn, can impact sexual orientation (Mustanski, Chivers, Bailey, 2002).
