Disadvantages Of Child Soldiers
Introduction
For most of human history, war has generally been conceptualized as a domain of adults in
uniform. However, in the past decades, a disturbing trend has surfaced children, both boys and
girls, are increasingly taking up arms. While this is not an entirely new attribute of warfare, the
use of child soldiers in history has been an exception and not a regular feature as it appears to be
today. According to international law, a child soldieris defined as any individual who is aged
below eighteen and part of an armed organization. A conservative estimate of the number of child
combatants stands at 300,000 and this excludes the other half a million children who perform non
combat duties in the army. Approximately 75 percent of armed conflict in the world involves
children fighters. The worrying situation is best expressed by Peter W. Singer: Children, as young
as 6 and 7 years old, are serving as combatants on every continent but Antarctica. Given these
statistics, one can speculate that there may actually be underlying military advantages in using
children to fight wars, and this is exploited by those who employ them. This is the premise which I
base my research on. Adopting the understanding that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, humanitarian efforts are focused on impoverished countries ravaged by ongoing civil
wars and this is exactly where young combatants are prevalent. Therefore, the issue of child soldier
is definitely a cause for concern because it places foreign personnel in direct contact with these

Key Influences In My Life
Instead of focusing on my recent activities, which involve the occumulation of medically related
experience, I decided to focus on those particular events and circumstances in my life that I believe
make me a unique applicant. I ultimately decided to utilize a memoir format to detail some of the
key influences in my life; particularly those which lead me in the direction of medicineas a career
choice. These key experiences that occured during my childhood and formative years are crucial to
my development as a human being, and as a future physician.
I was raised an only child in a single parent family, living among public housing units on the west
end of Halifax. My father and I lived alone, but were very fortunate to have my grandmother ...

that was possible and figured education could provide the greatest probability of achieving said

discipline, approaching every avenue of life as a martial artist with the utmost dedication. The

grandmother considered her involvement in my life as a second chance at motherhood. In many
ways, she was like a surragete mother to me.
She passed away, prematurely, when I was 19. After her departure, I was at a crossroads:

Airport Security Essay 8
Running head:
Airport Security
David A. Fowler
Embry Riddle Aeronautical University Abstract
Through the history of aviation the importance of airport security has steadily increased. Since the
disastrous terrorist attack of September 11, 2001, many changes have taken place at airports to
prevent such an attack from occurring again. The purpose of this paper is to: outline airport security
procedures, discuss the different technologies involved with airport security, as well as examine the
components of airport security. In addition I will also discuss the Transportation Security
Administration s role in our nation s airport security.

In the future, the number of airports to be inducted into this program is expected to go up to 40 in
order to provide a broader test base, of at least 10%. The TSA has an extensive research and
development branch as well. The mission is geared towards anticipating future threats to civil
transportation security. In so doing, programs are conducted that accelerate and expand promising
technologies to the point of operational test and evaluation. Technologies that have successfully
gone through this process have been passed to the Security Equipment Integrated Product Team for
deployment in our nation s airports. The research and development goal is to develop systems that
are fully integrated into the aviation system; are highly automated, utilizing the strengths of a
variety of technologies; and are geared to optimizing the screener s operational performance. The
Transportation Security R D Division has divided its functions into four interrelated program areas:
Explosives and Weapons Detection, Aircraft Hardening, Human Factors, and Airport Security
Technology Integration. Each program area makes a significant contribution toward achieving the
goals of the transportation security system of the future. The Division conducts R D projects to

Ethical Issues, Social Media Influence, and Medical...
Introduction The iPhone 5 C model has incorporated multiple technologies that could affect the
current global atmosphere differently. For instance, the fact that this product can connect to
multiple medical gadgets could alter the current medical practices. In addition, its production
resulted in ethical issues that could affect its future users and non users. This is because most of the
ethical issues affect the workers (who could be prospective iPhone5 C users). Another important
aspect to note is that the social media has had an influence on the publicity of the item. This is
because major debates have occurred in the social media regarding the iPhone 5 C models, which

Nonetheless, there were some positive comments because the iPhone 5 C model came in an array
of colors. This is because of it had colors such as blue yellow, and pink.
Medical Effects of the iPhone 5 C The iPhone 5 C model uses the iOS 7 system, which is
accompanied by medical concerns. This technology makes the screen appear to be in layers in
addition to a zooming feature than occurs when switching between applications. According to
Bashak (2013), this technology has been reported to cause problems analogous to carsickness.
This type of sickness is called vertigo that occurs when problematic cases occur in the inner ear or
eye. It could be described as what one perceives to be different from the motion in the inner ear
senses. The author further asserts that Apple fans have had trouble from the transition involving
applications and the home screen. The main reason for this discomfort is the new parallax
innovation that forces the screen background to move back and forth. Since the iOS 7 is
preinstalled in the model, it becomes a major medical concern that must be checked. Another
medical concern regarding the iPhone 5 C model is about the smaller dock, which could lead to an
increased transition in Bluetooth technology (in the medical industry). In September 2013, Apple
executive announced that the iPhone 5 C models would apply 30 pin connectors to 8 pin

Examples Of Discrimination In A Streetcar Named Desire
Back in the 1940 s, gender stereotypes existed to a larger extent. Tennessee Williams casts a light
on this issue in his play, A Streetcar Named Desire in which he shows how Homosexuals; such as
Blanche s husband Allan Grey was cut from the society. During the 1940 s, the concept of
homosexuality was completely unusual and many people termed it to be unethical and almost a
crime (Straight from the Closet). As a result, Allan Grey has been briefly mentioned but he has a
huge role to play in Blanche s mental breakdown and Williams has constantly made his presence
felt through Blanche s character.
Homosexuality was illegal in the 1940 s and Williams attempts to address this issue through Blanche
s perspective. Blanche represents the old American ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Williams makes use of a plastic theatre element; Varsouviana Polka to show how the tragic
suicide of Blanche s husband is still affecting her. In scene 1, when Stanley asks Blanche about
her marriage, there is a faint Varsouviana polka heard (p.31). This stage direction allows the
reader to know that Blanche is brought to reality where she considers herself guilty for her
husband s death. The intensity of this polka tune is more rapid in scene 9, when Mitch confronts
Blanche about her truth (p.113). The purpose of the rapid polka tune is to make it clear in the
reader s mind that Blanche s illusion of getting married to Mitch as a way to get rid of her past, is
brought back to reality when Mitch refuses her proposal. It also marks the increasing mental
collapse as she realizes it s the end of her illusion and only reality exists. Towards the end, in scene
11, the Varsouviana tune plays continuously when the doctor and the nurse come to take Blanche to
the mental asylum (p.139). This final act and the Varsouviana playing in the background helps the
reader to clearly recognize the ultimate mental breakdown of Blanche and eventually facing the

Happiness And Happiness Essay
In this essay, I will present to you how happiness conflicts with morality by going through a
specific scenario where the likes of two concepts are challenged. In addition, I will alternative
endings and translations to this scenario by using the perspectives of Aristotelian and Kantian
philosophies along with my own. Moreover, the scenario will challenge your perception of
happinessand morality. Morality in a superficial sense is a guide for your behavior and happiness
can be seen as satisfaction towards yourself or others. Of course, these interpretations aren t the
words of Aristotleor Kant but as you read the scenario it s important to keep those light definitions
in mind.
In this case scenario, I m in an elevator at a hotel because I m leaving a party and going home
because I felt tired. I m in this elevator alone and someone joins the elevator as I m going down to
the lobby. As the door opens, it s a young woman in her early twenties who seems to have been
crying by the redness in her eyes. I get a full look at her she s a pretty girl with some relatively
stylish clothing as if she came back from a party as well. But, as I glance at her sleeves I see
horizontal cuts on her wrists. At this particular moment in time, I don t know what to think or to

Sims 4 Essay
It s nearly midnight, children! Now sit down around the fire and I ll tell you a spooky story about
ghosts in The Sims 4... first things first:
IFrame
Spooooooky!
1. What is The Sims 4: Ghosts ?
Ghosts was one of the major 2014 updates to Sims 4. As you know, ghosts have been haunting the
Sims for a while now, tapping their spooky fingers on your shoulder when you re in the toilet,
haunting your garden, lurking around corridors. In Sims 4, they could only be non playable
characters originally. When your Sim died, a non playing character (NPC) ghost attached to a
gravestone near your Sims house and hangs out doing a bit of haunting.

Ghosts have some spooky abilities
The skills and abilities that ghosts have is mostly determined by how they died, and how they re
feeling. Some of the extra fun properties of ghosts (as well as a few things they can t do) are listed
below:
Ghosts have little graphics changes that reflect how they died e.g. if your ghost died of hunger,
there will be a small wispy cloud floating near its stomach. If it died by Cowplant, it will be able to
help plants grow, or kill them if it s in a bad mood!
Ghost s body colour matches their emotions. If a ghost is angry, it goes red. If it s dark blue, it sad.
A ghost who is feeling fine will be white, and a flirty ghost is a lovely shade of pink.
Ghosts can walk through the walls when they feel like it. If they don t feel like it, they won t!
Ghosts can possess objects, making them move around or break. Luckily the ghost can also repair
them!
Ghosts can t die, and they can t have children (as far as we know! happy to be proved wrong on
this one.)
You re going to kill me?! Don t make me laugh...uggh..aggh ...aaaaahhhh!
4. How do you get to be a ghost?
It s pretty obvious, but to get a ghost you have to kill a Sim. There are quite a few ways of dying,
including laughter, mortification, overexertion, hunger, old age, Cowplant, anger, fire or
electrocution. More about death

Theme Of Lamb To The Slaughter
The motif of the lamb leg within Lamb to the Slaughter , by Roald Dahl, contributes to the
development of the story by embolizing Mrs. Maloney s facade of innocence, which in turn
strengthen the moral dilemma of either turning herself in as a criminal risking her child s life or
to continue living as a metaphoric lamb leg with the benefit of allowing her to raise her child
without fear. Starting with why the lamb leg emblemizes Mrs. Maloney s facade of innocence,
one must first look at what a lamb by itself denotes, then narrow down and look at the meaning of
a lamb leg. In regard to denotation, a lamb leg is the young offspring of a sheep. But what lambs
embody within society is innocence. However, moving along, a lamb leg on the other hand... Show

After the murder of Mr. Maloney is done, she strays even further from the path of the lamb when
she creates an artificial alibi by going through extreme lengths to protect her child from harm,
which can seen within text. Her first step to create her artificial alibi was going to the grocery
after the murder. Before going, she rehearse[s] [her smiles and dialogue] several times (Roald 3).
By rehearsing, she keeps her appearance as a lovely housewife when conversing with the
shopkeeper; maintaining her appearance and using her innocent semblance as her tool for
manipulation. Afterwards, when the police arrive at the scene of murder due to Mrs. Maloney s
call, she manipulates the officers by setting setting the mood of sorrow and despair while she sob[s]
(Roald 4) over the phone and conversing with the officers, then she manipulates the officers by
using the artificial alibi she created while shopping for groceries, and further manipulates the
officers by clouding their judgement with whisky. Mrs. Maloney s reason for manipulation can be
inferred when she questions what happens to the unborn child of a murder on the third page, which
further infers that when Mrs. Maloney puts all her effort into deceiving the officers, it wasn t for her

More Americans are afflicted with digestive disorders than the combined total of those suffering

Water Conservation And Its Effects On American Urban...
Water Conservation
How do we stabilize the use of water in American Urban cities without wasting too much money
and drastically changing the lifestyles of people?
When it comes to water conservation, there are two types of changes that are looked upon. There
are little changes in the lifestyles of people and there are changes using technology. Within the two,
the majority of people look at changes using technology, such as desalination and water recycling.
In the other end, mostly environmentalists and vegan activists look at the amount of water eating
food uses and how the agriculture industry uses about half the water in the United States. But is this
really true? And which form of water conservation can be most efficient for the prolongment of the
earth?
Objective definitions are necessary in to understand what stabilization of the use of water really
means. The Merriam Webster Definition of stabilize is to make stable, steadfast, or firm. To be
stable is to be in a good state or condition that is not easily changed or likely to change, according
to Merriam Webster. In this research paper, I will be using stabilization of water as efficiently
using water and not letting it go to waste, such as the what The United States and other more
developed country have already doing. Desalination is converting seawater into drinking water.
Rainwater Harvesting is capturing water through rain and storing for later use. Green roofs are a

The Creations Of One Of My Favourite Interior Designers
In this assignment, I chose to discuss the creations of one of my favourite interior designers,

The Ottomans accomplished the most elevated amount design in their territories henceforth or

Islamic religious architecture which until then comprised of straightforward structures with broad

arches, semi domes and sections. The mosque was changed from being a confined and dim
chamber with arabesque secured dividers into a haven of tasteful and specialised equalisation,
refined style and an insight of glorious amazing quality.
One of my favourite interior design of hers is the Hotel Les Ottomans located in Istanbul, Turkey
because I have always loved the Ottoman culture, tradition and especially the designs as I have

Summary Of The Second Sex By Simone De Beauvoir
In The Second Sex, Simone de Beauvoir questions the idea held in society that those who live
simpler lives with no foreseeable challenges are inherently content and satisfied in their lives.
Specifically, she disagrees with the idea that women who are oppressed, and thus, due to their
lack of opportunities and freedoms, must lead lives that the patriarchal society makes available
to them, are happier than the women whose freedom brings them challenges and shortcomings.
De Beauvoir claims that we cannot assume someone is happy from what we see, and we cannot
simply assume happiness means to that person what it does to us; it is not too clear just what
the word happy really mean and still less what true values it may mask. There is no possibility
measuring the happiness of others, and it is always easy to describe as happy the situation in
which one wishes to place them, (de Beauvoir 261). She continues to discuss this idea of seeing
one as happy in the situation the observer views as ideal, specifically the non working woman
stripped of her rights, whose lack of purpose and duties is seen as peaceful happiness, in
particular those who are condemned to stagnation are often pronounced happy on the pretext that
happiness consists in being at rest, (de Beauvoir 261). This is not to say a woman s happiness
cannot be found being a housewife, but one cannot assume what will bring women joy and
fulfillment, because all people are different with varying wants and needs. Women need all the
opportunities available and full liberation in order to be able to find their happiness, if it can be
found. Sara Ahmed says, Feminismdoes not guarantee what we will find through this expansion
of bodily horizons. It simply opens up the places where we can look, (Ahmed 70). Ahmed goes
on to explain how happiness may not even be a healthy goal, as often women are expected to give
up much in order to be able to find a happiness that is likely unachievable. Ahmed also discusses
the 2002 film The Hours, which tells the stories of three women living in different eras all
struggling with their happiness in their vastly different lives. All three women experience other
people in their lives telling them that they should be happy

Collectivisation had a big impact on Russia for both positive and negative reasons; it was a failure
in the aspect that it caused chaos in agriculture and due to the problems caused, millions died
due to famine and poverty in the short term. Grain harvests dropped dramatically during the
early 1930s and took until the late 1930s for yield to rise again. However, in the long run, a food
surplus was secured and so could be used to feed and pay for the industrial workforce needed for
the 5 year plan. It was also incredibly significant in history as it showed how much control Stalin
had over Soviet Russia and the fear that the peasants lived in; for example if they were caught
stealing even just a few pieces of grain they could be executed or imprisoned for up to 10 years.
The lasting impression that is received from the wide tolerance of this policy was how small and
insignificant the few rebellions were that were organised. This further demonstrates the power and
influence held over the peasants during this period of time. The five year plans were designed to
combat the lack of industrialisation in the Soviet Union by increasing the output of enterprises via
setting targets for the companies. If these targets were not met, due to the lawfulness of the plans,
the people responsible could be treated as if they had committed a criminal offence . Due to the fear

The Protest Psychosis Summary
Psychiatry and psychology have struggled in the past to contextualize the nature of mental illness.
Through this struggle, mental illnesses and their symptoms have been used as a means of
controlling deviance and pathologizing emotions felt by certain groups of people. Social, political,

Jeremy Bentham Utilitarianism
On February 15th 1748, Jeremy Bentham, who would become the chief expounder of
utilitarianism, was born in London, England. Born to two attorneys, Jeremy grew up in a time of
major economic, social and political reform. The Industrial Revolution, rise of the middle class,
and the coming revolutions in France and America were just some major changes Bentham was
able to witness. Entering Queens College in 1760, and studying law at Lincoln s Inn in 1764.
Despite being qualified to practice law, he never did so. Bentham prefered to write matters of legal
reform although, he never went on to publish much of his work.
Utilitarianism was developed in the late 18th and 19th century by Jeremy Bentham alongside fellow
philosopher, John Stuart Mill. Utilitarianism is defined as the moral worth of an action is
determined by its contribution in overall utility by maximizing happiness or pleasure as summed
among all people. Utility in philosophy is defined as actions or behaviours that promote happiness
and pleasure are right, while actions and behaviours that cause unhappiness are wrong. A man of
positive law, Bentham believed morals and legislation could be described scientifically, but they
needed an account of human nature. Human nature and behaviour could be explained and
controlled by two primary motives: pain and pleasure. Bentham believed pain and pleasure not
only act a explanations for people s actions, but they can also define an individual s good.

Statement Of Purpose To Join A Sorority
Coming into my freshman year of college, I knew that I wanted to get involved around campus.
I decided to join a sorority so I can get to know more people. First coming in, I just wanted to be a
part of something. I had no idea that one day I would be on council as a vice president for an
organization of over 300 people. It started with just one decision to apply for an appointed
officer position. I applied for the role of chaplain for the entire sorority. As a freshman, I knew
that I was not likely to get the position because they probably wanted older girls with more
experience. However, the spring of that year I was chosen from many applicants to be the
Chaplain for a large organization. I was very intimidated about being seen as a leader

Colorectal Carcinoma Essay
Colorectal carcinoma (CRC) is one of the lethal malignant diseases and is the third most common
cancer and the fourth most common cause of cancer deaths worldwide. It is the third most
common cancer in men (10% of all cancers in men worldwide) and second most in women (9.2%
of all cancers in women worldwide)(1). It is a slow developing cancerthat begins as a tumor or a
tissue growth on the inner lining of the large bowel. The most common type of CRC is
adenocarcinoma (more than 95%)(2). Even with advancements in the diagnostic technologies the
detection is usually late however accurate pre operative staging has a definite impact in the
treatment plan and is important in selecting patients for pre operative chemotherapyor radiotherapy
or both.
GLOBOCAN 2012 says because of China s large population size, approximately one fifth of the
world population, these Chinese data contribute significantly to the global burden of cancer:
almost 22% of global new cancer cases and close to 27% of global cancer deaths occur in China(3).

Comparing God And God In William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying
The devil is known to be the ruler of hell an evil spirit, a person who does bad things and causes

Sacred Space In Mircea Eliade s The Sacred And The Profane
The first chapter of Mircea Eliade s book The Sacred and The Profane educates the reader on the
general idea of what a sacred space is, how it affects religious and secular man, and how it came
to be. He describes sacred space in the perspective of a religious man and the difference between it
and profane space. Sacred space is commonly known to appear through the use of hierophany and
theophany; however, Eliade presents several other ways they may come about.
Throughout the text, it is evident that the basis of a sacred space is that there is a break within the
homogenous space that makes a connection between the earth and the heavens; this connection can
be referred to as axis mundi. Eliade portrays the idea that those who follow religion

Characteristics Of An Ideal City
What factors do you expect from a city? Easy public transport? easy to access food? Decent
entertainment and community centres? A large city would be an easy place to find all these.
One of the key factors about the city is to find a job for survival. Finding a job is easier since more
jobs are probably available. When you get a job and if you dislike it or get fired, you will have
more choices. Another important factor is access in the city with ease, such as easy availability of
trams/trains/taxi because sometimes you forget something at the grocery store or you are invited
somewhere last minute. This is convenient for anyone lacking a vehicle. The city should have
good quality control. Anything factory made or cooked in the city would be handled by
professionals. In an ideal city, you should not travel long distances for common items such as
clothes, last minute groceries, the bank or any other company services. There should be banks,
insurances or other customer services companies in the town ready to assist you. Also in the
unlikely event of an emergency, pharmacies, hospitals and medicine should be easily accessible.
Traveling should happen without any problems, so you will be able to catch a last minute flight.
Also, the city should have more advanced development: buildings, population and economy. These
factors are very important for a region to become a suitable comfortable place to live. More
buildings such as schools and hospitals will help in growing

The Impact Of Kundalini Energy On The Body Responsible For...
Thousands of years ago, in various parts of the world, a major discovery was made an intelligent
mechanism in the body responsible for the process of spiritual awakening itself. In India, the
name used for this discovery was Kundalini. On the physical level, Kundalini exists as a
metabolic system whose purpose is to upgrade the brain and to elevate it to higher forms of
consciousness. Kundalini energy is an accompaniment to psychic changes that is, to new
perspectives and patterns of consciousness (Clarke, 2014). Bonnie Greenwell a 35 years old

cultures knew about Kundalini and the methods to accelerate it, which can result in profound
physical and psychological effects. Due to these effects, and since it is a natural process,
Kundalini can be studied and measured just as any other area of science. Learn more about the

For example when Oberon sent Puck to find the magical flower and place it on Demetrius eye .
Since Puck had never seen what Demetrius looks like he accidentally puts the flower juice on

Reflection On Solidarity Versus Charity
After having been in your domestic/ national/international field placement, what is your
perspective on solidarity versus charity? Provide examples from your experience. When I think
of solidarity and charity, they both appear very similar and there is no black and white answer.
However, when I think of charity, I always think of giving to those who have less than you. It is
this idea that you may have authority or higher power over someone less fortunate. When
volunteering for a charity, there is this idea that anything a volunteer does will be helpful. An
example of charity to me, would be donating cloths to a shelter. From experience, interning at a
shelter, people would always donate clothes. As this was necessary and helpful, at one point we
were unable to accept any more clothing donations because we had too much. I think when people
donate clothes, they automatically think they are contributing to the charity, following the idea that
by doing that they helped the agency out.
Solidarity on the other hand is a more personal approach to helping others. To me solidarity is
when an individual truly works with others to identify what it is that they need or want, not just
assuming that whichever service they provide will be helpful. I believe that solidarity takes more
of an equality and empowering approach, which leads to working more collaboratively with
individuals. I think an example of solidarity for me, would be my last year s internship at the
domestic violence

How Does Harriet Beecher Stowe Use Propaganda
On a superficial level, Uncle Tom s Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe is a fictitious, narrative about
slavery. Yet, the truth is that the novel is filled with propaganda. A narrator, Stowe, breaks the
third wall to directly address the issues of slavery with the reader. The novel ends with revelatory
remarks that there can be no possible justification for owning slaves, and beyond the condemnation,
action needs to be taken to end the horrible enterprise. Beyond direct statement through the narrator
and characters, the characters themselves hold a type of persuasions in their actions and thoughts.

The author s white, female characters act as an example for her white, female readers to model
themselves after. This argument is more than go out and vote or start protests, because those
methods of change are not a reasonable expectation for a group of people whose role is to be
polite, hospitable, and demure. Thus, the methods the women are expected to take are indirect by
being more subtle and persuasive instead of direct and confrontational. Subtlety and persuasion
are demonstrated by the female characters, Mrs. Emily Shelby and Mrs. Mary Bird. Mrs. Shelby
used her subtlety to throw off the plans of the slave trader and allowing her slaves to escape. She
slyly suggests to her slaves take their time in collecting the horses, before then offering her guest
dinner and pushing back the time for eating, because the meal is supposedly not suitable enough
for guests. Mrs. Bird discusses her opinion on slavery and fugitive slave laws with her husband in
a very womanly manner, respectful and persuasive, in a successful attempt to convince him to take
an abolitionist stance in his job as senator. Both Mrs. Shelby and Mrs. Bird are able to receive
their desired results by working within their role as women. Even though they are not taking a
direct action of fighting slavery, they are still making a difference just through different means.

a Superbug . It was noted in the year 1882 and eventually named after Dr. Edwin Klebs; genus
Klebsiella. Found in many animal species, including humans, K. pneumoniae resides in the
intestines, skin, mouth and is considered part of the normal flora. In our world wide environment,
it may be found in soil and on vegetables, giving it easy access to humans. As an organism of
opportunity, K. pneumoniae is able to survive and multiply in a variety of conditions. It is benign,
perhaps helpful to animals when in the intestines, it is harmful when it infects other areas of the

I Am Working With A Family
Question 1:
In this scenario, I am working with a family in the hospital setting. The patient is a 7 year old male
who is hospitalized due to complications with cystic fibrosis and also has a diagnosis of Down
Syndrome. Present in the family structure is the patient and both biological parents, who are
college graduates and have substantial employment. From my previous observations, I am aware
that the patient enjoys positive attention, such as praise, nonverbal attention, playing games, or
reading books, from adults, but also frequently displays non compliance with requests from adults.
Another important observation to note is that the patient is only able to follow simple 1 and 2 step
commands and cannot speak in full sentences.
In the healthcare setting, there are many experiences that may lead to problematic behaviors in
children, but in a situation where a child also has a developmental disability these problematic
behaviors can be more intense and more difficult to tame. An antecedent is what happens
immediately before a problematic behavior, such as a demand, transition, time of day, specific
request being denied, and so forth. An antecedent that might lead to problematic behavior in the
hospital for this particular child could be seen in the following example; the nursing staff entered
the patient s room to start an IV without assessing developmental age/abilities and gave the patient
a 3 step command to keep his arm still, not wiggle his body, and listen or talk to

Managing And Securing Unstructured Data
With a massive growth in Internet, there has been an enormous increase in the amount of
information generated and shared in social networking sites and across various industries. This has
led to storing and access issues with regards to unstructured data.
Firstly understanding what unstructured data is of primary importance before trying to handle it.
In simple terms unstructured data can be understood as data that can t be stored in the form of rows
and columns. It can be anything including email files, text documents, presentations, image and
video files.
Studies carried out by IDC and EMC forecasts that data will grow to 40 zettabyes (1 ZB = 1 billion
TB). As of now more than 80% of all stored data in organizations is unstructured and ... Show more

Also backup and restore will take a lesser time
Major disadvantage is that storing unstructured data will significantly increase the size of
databases which will lead to more time for backup and restore of these databases and can cause
performance issues with I/O subsystems
The big disadvantage of this approach is that we have to create and maintain manual links between
database and external file system files which can potentially go out of sync. Also since data is
stored outside the system the backups are not consistent and unstructured data is not a part of the
transaction.
Hybrid Approach: To overcome the disadvantages of the methods discussed above, another method
was the Hybrid Approach, which proposes Database engine to support a new data type filestream .
Filestram help consolidates the profit of getting to BLOBs specifically from the NTFS document
framework with the referential integrity and simple entry offered by the conventional social
database engine. In SQL Server, BLOBs can be standard varbinary (max) information that stores the
information in tables, or filestream varbinary (max) protests that store the information in the
document framework. The major advantage of this approach is BLOB s are under database
transactional consistency. By carrying out research with different datasets, it was clearly observed
that hybrid and filestream data type approach is faster

Analysis Of Herbert Marcuse s One Dimensional Man
Herbert Marcuse, a Frankfurt philosopher, wrote his book One Dimensional Man in the 1960 s

highly critical of modern industrial capitalism and as Marcuse believed, its subsequent exploitation
of people and nature, as well as its contribution to modern consumer culture and new forms of
social control. One Dimensional Man offers an analysis of the new state of consumerism during the

However, he never addresses what the standards are for defining what is true and false. He also
argues that it is the individual who must ultimately decide this, but at the same time, the
individual does not have the mental capacity to do so (Marcuse, H. 1968). This development of
false needs results in one dimensional thought and behaviour where the ability for individuals to
think critically is compromised. This lack of critical thinking results in a flattening of discussion,
critic and independence. What Marcuse is ultimately saying is that the capacity for independent
thought is becoming blurred with the influence of consumer culture. The ability for those within
an advanced industrial society to reason between two dimensions (Marcuse, H. 1968), in other
words, to look at an industrial society characterised by labour and waste while still
acknowledging technological progress, and to imagine a form of living that uses technology to
aid nature rather than perpetuate poverty and oppression within the society. Why do false needs
exist? they are a means of making money. Consumers think they are free to choose what product
they want to purchase, Marcuse calls this deceptive liberty (Marcuse, H. 1968, p.9). The façade
of liberty to choose what to do and buy. It is deceptive because people are greatly influenced by

Massachusetts Bay Colony Dbq Analysis
The majority of European settlers in North America were of English origin. However, by the 1700s
two regions in particular, New England and the Chesapeake, had developed their own distinct
societies. Although both were occupied by Englishmen looking for better lives, the two regions
evolved to have societies vastly different from one another. The causes for these differences are
because of the distinction in their religions, their reasons for immigrating, and the types of
governments that they formed. One of the many distinct differences between the societies of the
Chesapeake and New Englandwere the religions of the settlers. While many in the Chesapeake
were Anglican, the majority of colonists in New England were Puritans. For example, John
Winthrop, leader of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, was a fervent Puritan. While still aboard the

(Sahuquillo 2007). Brain injury is normally thought of in terms of primary and secondary
insults. First published in the 1970 s this remains a useful concept as it differentiates between
the unavoidable irreversible primary injury and the potentially avoidable secondary one (Adams
1977). Primary brain injury occurs immediately at the time of injury, whereas secondary injury is
a cascade of events that contributes to intracranial hypertension resulting in a reduction in
cerebral perfusion pressure and ischaemia (Marmarou 1991). The cerebral perfusion pressure
(CPP) is determined by the Monro Kellie hypothesis. In closed head injuries, the skull has a fixed
volume and the pressure within it is determined by the equilibrium between the CPP, the mean
arterial pressure (MAP) and the intracranial pressure (ICP) using the equation: CPP = MAP в€’
ICP Therefore, assuming a constant blood pressure, as ICP rises CPP must fall. Minimising the
ICP, should minimise ischaemia and brain damage resulting from localised pressure thus leading to
a global increase in perfusion and therefore oxygen delivery to the brain. There is class I evidence
that cooling to a mild hypothermic state of ≤35oC reduces intracranial hypertension by limiting
cerebral oedema. In addition it is thought that moderate hypothermia of 33oC

Animal Intelligence Essay
Animal Intelligence
Intelligence is defined as the ability to acquire and apply knowledge. Psychologists have exploited
this concept in many ways to try and determine whether non human animals are capable of
intelligence.
From social learning it is logical to assume that, since non human animals are able to both acquire
and use new behaviours, they must be intelligent in some way. Heyes stated that there are 6 types of
behaviour which suggest intelligence. These are imitation, self recognition, social relationship
formation, role taking, deception and perspective taking. These 6 behaviours are referred to as the
theory of mind (ToM).
Imitation is the ability to copy another s behaviour, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This gives a good basis to ToM as intelligence is required to recognise that the mirror image is not
another individual. This behaviour has been reported in the higher primates.
Gallup s study required chimpanzees to be placed in a cage with a mirror. At first they reacted like
the image was another chimp, but later realised that it was actually themselves. Gallup
anaesthetised the chimpanzees then placed a red mark on one eyebrow and ear. After recovering,
the chimpanzees would often touch the red mark, when they looked in the mirror. This supports the
idea that higher primates are capable of self recognition. This experiment was tried out on other
animals e.g. cats, dogs, and elephants with unsuccessful results.
The fact that no other animals responded to this experiment means that it cannot be said for sure
that all non human animals are capable of self recognition. Therefore some non human animals do
not show signs of ToM. Evolutionary science suggests that the higher primates are distant relatives
of human beings, having similar physiology may mean that higher primates are more capable of
intelligence.
Social relationships refer to an animal s ability to form bonds with others of its species. This
relationship formation may be affected by the animal s status or role in the community. In

A regional trading bloc is an intergovernmental agreement or treaty among a group of countries,
acting together for a common purpose of removing or reducing trade barriers of trading between the
participating nations. It is a form of economic integration, creating high level of globalization and
regionalisation. Economic integration is the integration of economies on different aspects of trade
and thus, reduction of its barriers among the countries. World trade is being shaped by economic

2.Competitiveness of trade
Trading blocs may like to distort world trade, and thus, reduce the benefits of the specialisation and

Blood on the Steppes: Ethnicity, Power, and Conflict
In this article written by Weatherford, the form and use of ethnic identity is the core focus and
further elaborations has been provided on roles of various factors in shaping ethnic identities such
as, religion, economics, politics and so forth. Weatherford has also discussed the various usages that
ethnic identities may have: Men in pursuit of their own vested interests have used ethnic identities
as a means to reach their goals and interests such as wealth, fame and even sexual indulgence. The
study was done on Central Asian countries, mostly those which were in the eastern bloc, it is argued

Thus, he made himself the Turkmen National Symbol of solidarity and unity.
It s been argued in the article that religion has been most used when people are denied the right to
directly express their own ethnic identity or have to accept an identity other than their own. Militant
Islam has become the dominant form of identification and main route of resistance to central
government authorities. For instance, Uighurs were Buddhists who converted to Islam. Due to the
fact that in the presence of Chinese (Khan) dominations they could not express their ethnic identity,
they chose Islam to symbolize and identify them.
Some chose rather unorthodox methods to express their identity and symbolization as a factor that
would assert their identity was indeed different from the previously discussed cases. For instance,
a group was formed under the name of Reebok Mafia , although they spoke the same language but
they would differ in terms of the place of residence and ethnicity. Thus, they chose to wear clothes
products of the Reebok Company to be identified. In some instances ethnic identity has been used
to pursue sexual gratification. In the case of Kirgizstan, it is legitimate for a man and women to
elope or men kidnap the woman in order to marry them, the specific term coined for this tradition is
Bride Capture. In an interview

Sorrow And Grief In Romeo And Juliet
Romeo and Juliet, one of many Shakespeare tragedy plays, reveals that Shakespeare thinks love
brings sorrow and grief. The play tells a story about two star crossed lovers named Romeo and
Juliet, who live in two different households that hate each other. Many problems arise with
Romeo and Juliet loving each other, but being enemies in nature. The story is told by many
characters, including Romeo and Juliet. Through this, Shakespeare uses dramatic irony,
repetition of epithets, and pathos to show how love brings sorrow and grief. Dramatic irony is
seen throughout the whole play many times, but one time stands out when the main character
Romeo slays Tybalt, kinsmen to the Capulets (Juliet s Family), out of sheer anger. Consequently,
Romeo was banished. Said in the play by Paris, he stated, Immoderately she weeps for Tybalt s
death, And therefore have I little talk of love (Rom.IV.i.6/7). Paris thinks that Juliet weeps for
Tybalt being slain, but instead is weeping for Romeo who was banished from Verona. Following
the banishment incident, Juliet remained in a coma like death that she put herself into not
marry Paris, but everyone thought of Juliet being dead, even Romeo. By her tomb, Romeo
spoke, Beauty s ensign yet is crimson in thy lips and in thy cheeks (Rom.V.iii.94/95). The coma
was to end and she was to wake any minute that Romeo went to Juliet, nevertheless Romeo didn t
know of the potion that put her in the coma. Full of grief, Romeo proceeded to kill himself even
though he noticed that Juliet looked well alive. Previously, when Romeo was banished and
Juliet in the coma, many examples of repetition of epithets happened during those scenes.
Romeo and Juliet has many characters expressing their sorrow with the repeated use of
adjectives to describe their or another s state. When Tybalt was killed, many wept for their
kinsmen including the nurse of the Capulet s. The nurse exclaims, We are undone, lady, we are
undone. Alack the day, he s gone, he s killed, he s dead (Rom.III.ii.43/44). The nurse repeatedly
states about Tybalt being killed and is dead. She is so stricken by grief that she doesn t say who
was killed and Juliet gets confused about who got killed, Tybalt, Romeo, or both. Soon after,

A Study On Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy
1.0Abstract
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a degenerative X linked recessive disorder usually resulting in
death in the late third decade. Mutation of Dystrophin gene at Xp21 disrupts the mRNA reading
frame resulting in absent dystrophin protein in muscle cells. Currently no therapy can counteract
the disease effectively. Exon skipping with oligonucleotide administration restores the reading
frame of the mRNA to produce truncated but functional dystrophin and requires repeated
administration which can cause drug accumulation toxicity. Mesoangioblast Stem Cell therapy has
shown safety but limited efficacy due to problems of migration and engraftment in patient skeletal
muscles. The approach of Cell Mediated Exon Skipping in this project will aim to draw from the
strengths of previous strategies while reducing their individual limitations.
A lentiviral vector expressing small nuclear RNA (snRNA), which can cause permanent skipping
of exon 51, was delivered to patient fibroblasts and myoblasts. The snRNA from one corrected
nucleus was expected to spread to surrounding uncorrected nuclei. Corrected cells were tested
against a control of healthy human muscle biopsy tissue, using Immunofluorescence and PCR for
Dystrophin. The hypothesis of neighbouring nuclei correction was tested by Quantitative PCR
comparing expression of Dystrophin with a reporter gene, Green Fluorescent Protein, in cultures of
corrected and uncorrected cells at relative ratio of 1:10 and 1:50.

School Desegregation
Throughout the history of America issues around race have brought great debate and augments.
Being a nation birth from ideals of freedom and undeniable human rights America has failed in
being truthful to its founding. The treatment of African American is an atrocity that stains the
history of our nation s past. Steps have been made to heal the injustice, but they are just steps. In
this essay, I will be discussing school desegregation focusing on the landmark and controversial

State of Minnesota has allowed the schools of Minneapolis and St. Paul to become hyper
segregated and with this hyper segregation unequal opportunities in the classroom. The plaintiffs in
the civil action lawsuit Alejandro Cruz Guzman, et. al. v. State of Minnesota et. al. are the parents

the defendants were the State of Minnesota and many head government officials in the Minnesota
Department of Education and other elected officials. The main claims of the plaintiffs were that the
segregated and unequal schools break the Education Clause of the constitution of Minnesota which
required the state to give all students equal public education. Along with breaking the Constitution
of Minnesota, the segregated schools of Minneapolis and St. Paul violate the Minnesota Human
Rights Act, which states it is unlawful to discriminate education on base of race and socioeconomic
standing. The inaction of the State of Minnesota is a violation of the rights of the children of
Minneapolis and St. Paul. Segregation in the Twin Cites and the surrounding suburbs is undeniable

Bosque Redondo Assassination
Following his arrival to the American Southwest in 1862, Brigadier General James Henry
Carleton of the Union Army would oversee the process of destroying Native American powers
throughout the Territory until his reassignment in 1867. The Navajo s or DinГ© , in their
language, were one such power that Carleton set about destroying. The process of destruction took
many forms as the tribes faced both physical and cultural assaults from the American military,
while the New Mexican citizens, and rival tribes of Native Americans engaged in raids, attacks,
and taking captives from the Navajos. In its final stage, this destruction took form as Bosque

Bosque Redondo and Fort Sumner were located together where there had been a grove of
cottonwood trees that sat along the Pecos River.,. Carleton had supported the reservation as the
last step to Indian removal in the area, seeking to drive the Navajos from their homeland to the
reservation by way of violence. Furthermore, he made various attempts to have it explained to
the Navajos that Bosque Redondo was their only means of salvation. To Navajo chiefs
Barboncito and Delgadito, Carlton wished it explained that those Navajos who claimed not to be
guilty of murder and robbery, that for their own preservation and as a means of validating their
innocence, must come to Bosque Redondo as a means of separating themselves from the guilty
parties. Carleton explained to his subordinates that they had no power to negotiate surrender with
the Navajos, and that they must explain the conditions by which surrender could be accepted,
stating that if approached by Navajos seeking peace it should be explained to them that they
must, Go to the Bosque Redondo, or we will pursue and destroy you. We will not make peace
with you on any other terms It was by this process that the Navajo as a power were intended to be
destroyed, with even innocent parties forced to subject themselves to the will of the United States

Outsourcing and the US Economy Essay
Outsourcing Don t Get Bangalored?
As the world has gotten smaller in terms of trade, outsourcing has become a hot topic in much
political and economic debate in the United States. An Associated Press Ipsos poll in May 2004,
found that 69 per cent of Americans thought that outsourcing hurts the US economy while only 17
per cent thought it helped . President Bush s chief economic advisor Greg Mankiw has stated
outsourcing...is something that we should realize is probably a plus for the economy in the long run
. While John Kerry has emphasized, that he is going to stop the outsourcing of American job . With

Is the public concern over outsourcing valid?
The most cited official projection outsourcing is by Forrester. It is estimated that outsourced US
jobs will grow from about 400,000 in 2004 to 3.3 million (recenty revised to 3.4 million) by
2015 which seems quite significant. But on a yearly basis this accounts for about 250,000 jobs
but in perspective the number is small compared to the total US employment of 137 million. It
actually only constituate less than 2 per cent of 15 million Americans who lose their jobs each
year . Goldman Sachs estimates that offshoring has accounted for 500,000 million lay offs in the
past three years. A study by Ashok Deo Bardhan and Cynthia A. Kroll at the University of
California, Berkeley indicates that up to 14 million Americans now work in occupations that are
at risk of being outsourced . Forrester also estimated that 300,000 US jobs have been outsourced.
While the Commerce Department 400,000 new jobs, which leaves a net result of 100,000 new US
jobs . In addition, an Economic Policy Institute in New York announced that 144,000 new jobs were
created in August 2004 . Summarizing the numbers, it seems that outsourcing will have a positive
effect on the overall US economy.

Opening new production sites or distribution centers closer to dispersed customers is one way to
reduce the lead time and transportation costs. However, the acquisition of such facilities in the oil
and petrochemical industries, if feasible, is typically very costly and often results in higher
inventory and operating costs (Hebert, 2004). Red Cavaney, president of the American Petroleum
Institute, said Most companies are unlikely to undertake the significant investment needed to even
begin the process (Hebert, 2004) These factors are pushing oil and petrochemicals companies to
either absorb the increase in costs or pass the costs on to customers who are already facing
increasing prices. Companies therefore have recognized that improved supply chain efficiencies
represent a huge area for cost savings, specifically in the logistics area; they are estimated to be an
average between 10 and 20 percent of revenues (Hamilton, 2003). Also, companies believe that the
supply chain in which they participate as customers and suppliers is what creates competition rather
than individual companies (Whitfield, 2004; Lange, 2004; Morton, 2003; Bianchi, 2003; Collins,
1999; Coia, 1999). Despite the importance of the petroleum industry in our daily life and the
operational challenges it involves, unfortunately the topic has received very little attention in
operations and supply chain management literature. The objective of this paper,

Description Of A Automatic Transmission
A automatic transmission (additionally called auto apparatus shift, self moving transmission or AT)
is a sort of engine vehicle transmission that can naturally change gear proportions as the vehicle
moves, liberating the driver from needing to change gears physically. Like other transmission
frameworks on vehicles, it permits an inward ignition motor, most appropriate to keep running at a
moderately high rotational rate, to give a scope of rate and torque yields essential for vehicular
travel.
The most prominent structure found in vehicles is the hydraulic automatic transmission.
Comparable however bigger gadgets are additionally utilized for overwhelming obligation
business and mechanical vehicles and gear. This framework utilizes a liquid coupling as a part of
spot of a rubbing grip, and fulfills apparatus changes by locking and opening an arrangement of
planetary riggings. These frameworks have a characterized arrangement of apparatus reaches,
frequently with a stopping pawl that bolts the yield shaft of the transmission to keep the vehicle
from moving either forward or in reverse. A few machines with restricted rate runs or altered
motor paces, for example, a few forklifts and yard cutters, just utilize a torque converter to give a
variable adapting of the motor to the wheels.
Other than the conventional programmed transmissions, there are additionally different sorts of
robotized transmissions, for example, a ceaselessly variable transmission (CVT) and self loader

Dangers And Dangers Of Phobias
There are many obstacles to be faced in the world we live in today. Do you realize though that
many of these so called obstacles , whether they be big or small, are merely fears that have
escalated in status in our subconscious? As humans most of us live a very structured, nearly
robotic, day to day life. We wake up in the morning, we got to school, work, or other hobbies, then
we come home, go to bed, and if we are lucky, we do it all over again the next day.
Sometimes though, throughout our tedious lives we are interrupted by those pesky obstacles that I
mentioned before. Interestingly enough, some of these obstacles can be describe as phobias. A
phobia is an irrational and excessive fear of an object or situation. These phobias can range
dramatically from simply distracting to life altering.
Luckily most of us suffer from seemingly less harmful phobias that may not trigger an
emotional outpour every day of our lives. Due to the unlikeliness of confrontation some people
are able to live their lives avoiding phobias they might have procured. For example, a more
common phobia known would be Coulrophobia, the fear of clowns. Although you may be
completely terrified of clowns, you do not wake up every morning knowing you have to face one.
You do however have to draw comprise whenever carnival time comes around. Even though you
may completely adore the amenities of a festival you steer clear of the park to avoid any clowns,
sacrificing amusement to bypass fear.

The Evolution Of Online Casino Games

There is a selection of online casino software developers that you immediately think of when you

way back in 1996, the developer has been able to float under the radar for seemingly more than 20

So, you can only imagine our glee when we came across RetroWheels, a game that makes things
simple to grasp without sacrificing any of the action. This game features 5 reels, but really steals
the show with its 50 paylines. In another twist, in spite of its video slot appearance, the game
oozes classic play within its symbols; so expect to see the likes of bells, 7s, and BARs out in force.
At the end of the day, any online slot game worth talking about needs some cash backing it up. It
s hard to say that RetroWheels doesn t have that, even if it isn t a cash bonanza exactly. The
triple 7s symbol carries the most weight, at 2,000 coins for five. Building up to the biggest
payout in the game, the star is worth up to 50 coins, melons and lemons up to 150 coins, grapes up
to 200 coins, blue bar up to 300 coins, red bar up to 300 coins, and bells up to 500 coins.
If You ve Seen it Once...
RetroWheels is pretty solid across the board, but it does have a negative that we need to talk
about. This is because we aren t exactly enthused by the games bonus features, as they are sparse
and far from creative. The wild symbol is the most obvious special symbol in the game. This
carries the usual function of being able to substitute for other symbols in RetroWheels to complete
a winning payline. The scatter follows

  • 2. Disadvantages Of Child Soldiers Introduction For most of human history, war has generally been conceptualized as a domain of adults in uniform. However, in the past decades, a disturbing trend has surfaced children, both boys and girls, are increasingly taking up arms. While this is not an entirely new attribute of warfare, the use of child soldiers in history has been an exception and not a regular feature as it appears to be today. According to international law, a child soldieris defined as any individual who is aged below eighteen and part of an armed organization. A conservative estimate of the number of child combatants stands at 300,000 and this excludes the other half a million children who perform non combat duties in the army. Approximately 75 percent of armed conflict in the world involves children fighters. The worrying situation is best expressed by Peter W. Singer: Children, as young as 6 and 7 years old, are serving as combatants on every continent but Antarctica. Given these statistics, one can speculate that there may actually be underlying military advantages in using children to fight wars, and this is exploited by those who employ them. This is the premise which I base my research on. Adopting the understanding that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Key Influences In My Life Instead of focusing on my recent activities, which involve the occumulation of medically related experience, I decided to focus on those particular events and circumstances in my life that I believe make me a unique applicant. I ultimately decided to utilize a memoir format to detail some of the key influences in my life; particularly those which lead me in the direction of medicineas a career choice. These key experiences that occured during my childhood and formative years are crucial to my development as a human being, and as a future physician. I was raised an only child in a single parent family, living among public housing units on the west end of Halifax. My father and I lived alone, but were very fortunate to have my grandmother ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My family was far from perfect, like most households, but they still wanted the best life for me that was possible and figured education could provide the greatest probability of achieving said life. Education thus became a cardinal value in our small family, and was to be our great equalizer. This period of my life primed me for the next twenty years that were to come. I learned discipline, approaching every avenue of life as a martial artist with the utmost dedication. The library became an extension of my dojo; the textbook: my training. I often wonder whether my grandmother considered her involvement in my life as a second chance at motherhood. In many ways, she was like a surragete mother to me. She passed away, prematurely, when I was 19. After her departure, I was at a crossroads: applying to medical school is a lofty goal for anyone, let alone a broke African Nova Scotian who spent the first half of his life living in public housing. I began to reevaluate my position. I come from a low income, working class family who wanted more for me; medicine could provide an opportuntiy for a more fulfilling life than they had. By pursuing a career in medicine, was I really demonstrating my own values or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is because of it had colors such as blue yellow, and pink. Medical Effects of the iPhone 5 C The iPhone 5 C model uses the iOS 7 system, which is accompanied by medical concerns. This technology makes the screen appear to be in layers in addition to a zooming feature than occurs when switching between applications. According to Bashak (2013), this technology has been reported to cause problems analogous to carsickness. This type of sickness is called vertigo that occurs when problematic cases occur in the inner ear or eye. It could be described as what one perceives to be different from the motion in the inner ear senses. The author further asserts that Apple fans have had trouble from the transition involving applications and the home screen. The main reason for this discomfort is the new parallax innovation that forces the screen background to move back and forth. Since the iOS 7 is preinstalled in the model, it becomes a major medical concern that must be checked. Another medical concern regarding the iPhone 5 C model is about the smaller dock, which could lead to an increased transition in Bluetooth technology (in the medical industry). In September 2013, Apple executive announced that the iPhone 5 C models would apply 30 pin connectors to 8 pin connectors called ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tennessee Williams casts a light on this issue in his play, A Streetcar Named Desire in which he shows how Homosexuals; such as Blanche s husband Allan Grey was cut from the society. During the 1940 s, the concept of homosexuality was completely unusual and many people termed it to be unethical and almost a crime (Straight from the Closet). Williams makes use of a plastic theatre element; Varsouviana Polka to show how the tragic suicide of Blanche s husband is still affecting her. In scene 1, when Stanley asks Blanche about her marriage, there is a faint Varsouviana polka heard (p.31). This stage direction allows the reader to know that Blanche is brought to reality where she considers herself guilty for her husband s death. The intensity of this polka tune is more rapid in scene 9, when Mitch confronts Blanche about her truth (p.113). The purpose of the rapid polka tune is to make it clear in the reader s mind that Blanche s illusion of getting married to Mitch as a way to get rid of her past, is brought back to reality when Mitch refuses her proposal. It also marks the increasing mental collapse as she realizes it s the end of her illusion and only reality exists. Towards the end, in scene 11, the Varsouviana tune plays continuously when the doctor and the nurse come to take Blanche to the mental asylum (p.139). Theme Of Lamb To The Slaughter The motif of the lamb leg within Lamb to the Slaughter , by Roald Dahl, contributes to the development of the story by embolizing Mrs. Maloney s facade of innocence, which in turn strengthen the moral dilemma of either turning herself in as a criminal risking her child s life or to continue living as a metaphoric lamb leg with the benefit of allowing her to raise her child without fear. Starting with why the lamb leg emblemizes Mrs. Maloney s facade of innocence, one must first look at what a lamb by itself denotes, then narrow down and look at the meaning of a lamb leg. Afterwards, when the police arrive at the scene of murder due to Mrs. Maloney s call, she manipulates the officers by setting setting the mood of sorrow and despair while she sob[s] (Roald 4) over the phone and conversing with the officers, then she manipulates the officers by using the artificial alibi she created while shopping for groceries, and further manipulates the officers by clouding their judgement with whisky. The Creations Of One Of My Favourite Interior Designers In this assignment, I chose to discuss the creations of one of my favourite interior designers, Zeynep Fadillioglu because I adore the way she fuses the Western and Eastern traditions, designs and culture. As she is Turkish, her designs are a mixture of our heritage, the Ottoman Empire, with the contemporary world today. I will use my knowledge and combine it with research I have found online, in books and from the press she has received by her wondrous architecture pieces. Islamic religious architecture which until then comprised of straightforward structures with broad adornments, was changed by the Ottomans through an element compositional vocabulary of domes, arches, semi domes and sections. The mosque was changed from being a confined and dim chamber with arabesque secured dividers into a haven of tasteful and specialised equalisation, refined style and an insight of glorious amazing quality. • 19. Summary Of The Second Sex By Simone De Beauvoir In The Second Sex, Simone de Beauvoir questions the idea held in society that those who live simpler lives with no foreseeable challenges are inherently content and satisfied in their lives. Specifically, she disagrees with the idea that women who are oppressed, and thus, due to their lack of opportunities and freedoms, must lead lives that the patriarchal society makes available to them, are happier than the women whose freedom brings them challenges and shortcomings. De Beauvoir claims that we cannot assume someone is happy from what we see, and we cannot simply assume happiness means to that person what it does to us; it is not too clear just what the word happy really mean and still less what true values it may mask. There is no possibility measuring the happiness of others, and it is always easy to describe as happy the situation in which one wishes to place them, (de Beauvoir 261). She continues to discuss this idea of seeing one as happy in the situation the observer views as ideal, specifically the non working woman stripped of her rights, whose lack of purpose and duties is seen as peaceful happiness, in particular those who are condemned to stagnation are often pronounced happy on the pretext that happiness consists in being at rest, (de Beauvoir 261). This is not to say a woman s happiness cannot be found being a housewife, but one cannot assume what will bring women joy and fulfillment, because all people are different with varying wants and needs. Women need all the opportunities available and full liberation in order to be able to find their happiness, if it can be found. Sara Ahmed says, Feminismdoes not guarantee what we will find through this expansion of bodily horizons. It simply opens up the places where we can look, (Ahmed 70). Ahmed goes on to explain how happiness may not even be a healthy goal, as often women are expected to give up much in order to be able to find a happiness that is likely unachievable. Ahmed also discusses the 2002 film The Hours, which tells the stories of three women living in different eras all struggling with their happiness in their vastly different lives. All three women experience other people in their lives telling them that they should be happy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Collectivisation had a big impact on Russia for both positive and negative reasons; it was a failure in the aspect that it caused chaos in agriculture and due to the problems caused, millions died due to famine and poverty in the short term. Grain harvests dropped dramatically during the early 1930s and took until the late 1930s for yield to rise again. However, in the long run, a food surplus was secured and so could be used to feed and pay for the industrial workforce needed for the 5 year plan. It was also incredibly significant in history as it showed how much control Stalin had over Soviet Russia and the fear that the peasants lived in; for example if they were caught stealing even just a few pieces of grain they could be executed or imprisoned for up to 10 years. The lasting impression that is received from the wide tolerance of this policy was how small and insignificant the few rebellions were that were organised. This further demonstrates the power and influence held over the peasants during this period of time. The five year plans were designed to combat the lack of industrialisation in the Soviet Union by increasing the output of enterprises via setting targets for the companies. Provide examples from your experience. When I think of solidarity and charity, they both appear very similar and there is no black and white answer. However, when I think of charity, I always think of giving to those who have less than you. It is this idea that you may have authority or higher power over someone less fortunate. When volunteering for a charity, there is this idea that anything a volunteer does will be helpful. An example of charity to me, would be donating cloths to a shelter. From experience, interning at a shelter, people would always donate clothes. As this was necessary and helpful, at one point we were unable to accept any more clothing donations because we had too much. I think when people donate clothes, they automatically think they are contributing to the charity, following the idea that by doing that they helped the agency out. Solidarity on the other hand is a more personal approach to helping others. To me solidarity is when an individual truly works with others to identify what it is that they need or want, not just assuming that whichever service they provide will be helpful. He also argues that it is the individual who must ultimately decide this, but at the same time, the individual does not have the mental capacity to do so (Marcuse, H. 1968). This development of false needs results in one dimensional thought and behaviour where the ability for individuals to think critically is compromised. This lack of critical thinking results in a flattening of discussion, critic and independence. What Marcuse is ultimately saying is that the capacity for independent thought is becoming blurred with the influence of consumer culture. The ability for those within an advanced industrial society to reason between two dimensions (Marcuse, H. 1968), in other words, to look at an industrial society characterised by labour and waste while still acknowledging technological progress, and to imagine a form of living that uses technology to aid nature rather than perpetuate poverty and oppression within the society. Why do false needs exist? they are a means of making money. Consumers think they are free to choose what product they want to purchase, Marcuse calls this deceptive liberty (Marcuse, H. 1968, p.9). • 37. Massachusetts Bay Colony Dbq Analysis The majority of European settlers in North America were of English origin. However, by the 1700s two regions in particular, New England and the Chesapeake, had developed their own distinct societies. Although both were occupied by Englishmen looking for better lives, the two regions evolved to have societies vastly different from one another. The causes for these differences are because of the distinction in their religions, their reasons for immigrating, and the types of governments that they formed. One of the many distinct differences between the societies of the Chesapeake and New Englandwere the religions of the settlers. While many in the Chesapeake were Anglican, the majority of colonists in New England were Puritans. For example, John Winthrop, leader of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, was a fervent Puritan. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Sahuquillo 2007). Brain injury is normally thought of in terms of primary and secondary insults. First published in the 1970 s this remains a useful concept as it differentiates between the unavoidable irreversible primary injury and the potentially avoidable secondary one (Adams 1977). Primary brain injury occurs immediately at the time of injury, whereas secondary injury is a cascade of events that contributes to intracranial hypertension resulting in a reduction in cerebral perfusion pressure and ischaemia (Marmarou 1991). The cerebral perfusion pressure (CPP) is determined by the Monro Kellie hypothesis. In closed head injuries, the skull has a fixed volume and the pressure within it is determined by the equilibrium between the CPP, the mean arterial pressure (MAP) and the intracranial pressure (ICP) using the equation: CPP = MAP в€’ ICP Therefore, assuming a constant blood pressure, as ICP rises CPP must fall. Minimising the ICP, should minimise ischaemia and brain damage resulting from localised pressure thus leading to a global increase in perfusion and therefore oxygen delivery to the brain. There is class I evidence that cooling to a mild hypothermic state of ≤35oC reduces intracranial hypertension by limiting cerebral oedema. • 41. Animal Intelligence Essay Animal Intelligence Intelligence is defined as the ability to acquire and apply knowledge. Psychologists have exploited this concept in many ways to try and determine whether non human animals are capable of intelligence. From social learning it is logical to assume that, since non human animals are able to both acquire and use new behaviours, they must be intelligent in some way. Heyes stated that there are 6 types of behaviour which suggest intelligence. These are imitation, self recognition, social relationship formation, role taking, deception and perspective taking. These 6 behaviours are referred to as the theory of mind (ToM). Imitation is the ability to copy another s behaviour, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This gives a good basis to ToM as intelligence is required to recognise that the mirror image is not another individual. This behaviour has been reported in the higher primates. Gallup s study required chimpanzees to be placed in a cage with a mirror. At first they reacted like the image was another chimp, but later realised that it was actually themselves. Gallup anaesthetised the chimpanzees then placed a red mark on one eyebrow and ear. After recovering, the chimpanzees would often touch the red mark, when they looked in the mirror. This supports the idea that higher primates are capable of self recognition. This experiment was tried out on other animals e.g. cats, dogs, and elephants with unsuccessful results. The fact that no other animals responded to this experiment means that it cannot be said for sure that all non human animals are capable of self recognition. Therefore some non human animals do not show signs of ToM. Evolutionary science suggests that the higher primates are distant relatives of human beings, having similar physiology may mean that higher primates are more capable of intelligence. Social relationships refer to an animal s ability to form bonds with others of its species. This relationship formation may be affected by the animal s status or role in the community. In ... • 46. Sorrow And Grief In Romeo And Juliet Romeo and Juliet, one of many Shakespeare tragedy plays, reveals that Shakespeare thinks love brings sorrow and grief. The play tells a story about two star crossed lovers named Romeo and Juliet, who live in two different households that hate each other. Many problems arise with Romeo and Juliet loving each other, but being enemies in nature. The story is told by many characters, including Romeo and Juliet. Through this, Shakespeare uses dramatic irony, repetition of epithets, and pathos to show how love brings sorrow and grief. Dramatic irony is seen throughout the whole play many times, but one time stands out when the main character Romeo slays Tybalt, kinsmen to the Capulets (Juliet s Family), out of sheer anger. Consequently, Romeo was banished. Said in the play by Paris, he stated, Immoderately she weeps for Tybalt s death, And therefore have I little talk of love (Rom.IV.i.6/7). Paris thinks that Juliet weeps for Tybalt being slain, but instead is weeping for Romeo who was banished from Verona. Following the banishment incident, Juliet remained in a coma like death that she put herself into not marry Paris, but everyone thought of Juliet being dead, even Romeo. By her tomb, Romeo spoke, Beauty s ensign yet is crimson in thy lips and in thy cheeks (Rom.V.iii.94/95). The coma was to end and she was to wake any minute that Romeo went to Juliet, nevertheless Romeo didn t know of the potion that put her in the coma. Full of grief, Romeo proceeded to kill himself even though he noticed that Juliet looked well alive. Previously, when Romeo was banished and Juliet in the coma, many examples of repetition of epithets happened during those scenes. Romeo and Juliet has many characters expressing their sorrow with the repeated use of adjectives to describe their or another s state. When Tybalt was killed, many wept for their kinsmen including the nurse of the Capulet s. The nurse exclaims, We are undone, lady, we are undone. Alack the day, he s gone, he s killed, he s dead (Rom.III.ii.43/44). The nurse repeatedly states about Tybalt being killed and is dead. • 47. A Study On Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy 1.0Abstract Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a degenerative X linked recessive disorder usually resulting in death in the late third decade. Mutation of Dystrophin gene at Xp21 disrupts the mRNA reading frame resulting in absent dystrophin protein in muscle cells. Currently no therapy can counteract the disease effectively. Exon skipping with oligonucleotide administration restores the reading frame of the mRNA to produce truncated but functional dystrophin and requires repeated administration which can cause drug accumulation toxicity. Mesoangioblast Stem Cell therapy has shown safety but limited efficacy due to problems of migration and engraftment in patient skeletal muscles. The approach of Cell Mediated Exon Skipping in this project will aim to draw from the strengths of previous strategies while reducing their individual limitations. A lentiviral vector expressing small nuclear RNA (snRNA), which can cause permanent skipping of exon 51, was delivered to patient fibroblasts and myoblasts. The snRNA from one corrected nucleus was expected to spread to surrounding uncorrected nuclei. Corrected cells were tested against a control of healthy human muscle biopsy tissue, using Immunofluorescence and PCR for Dystrophin. The hypothesis of neighbouring nuclei correction was tested by Quantitative PCR comparing expression of Dystrophin with a reporter gene, Green Fluorescent Protein, in cultures of corrected and uncorrected cells at relative ratio of 1:10 and 1:50. ... Red Cavaney, president of the American Petroleum Institute, said Most companies are unlikely to undertake the significant investment needed to even begin the process (Hebert, 2004) These factors are pushing oil and petrochemicals companies to either absorb the increase in costs or pass the costs on to customers who are already facing increasing prices. Companies therefore have recognized that improved supply chain efficiencies represent a huge area for cost savings, specifically in the logistics area; they are estimated to be an average between 10 and 20 percent of revenues (Hamilton, 2003).
