Germany And Its Impact On The Economy
Germany Social The graph shows that the population has overall decreased by 1.11 million.
From 2011 to 2015 the population increased 980,000 and more potential grow could be seen. The
large population would have influenced the smartphone market to grow as more need the
technology in their lives to communicate with each other hence why the industry has grown
over the years. People prefer to carry a smartphone that has display size of five inches or more.
Getting features and updates added to the smartphone gives the users all the function needed
making it unnecessary to carry a second device such as a laptop or tablet. This would be the reason
to why the sales have increased as people would like to access everything on one... Show more

This is good for the economy as people are employed and there is more aggregate demand as
more have the money from income. Unemployment was at its highest in 2007 at around 8% and
then in July 2009 it was at 7.9%. After 2009, the rate started to decrease and was at 4.5% in
2015. This may have influenced the market for the smartphone as the sales have increased over
the years. Kurzarbeit the Federal subsidy paid for the portion of the pay that was lost for the
workers. The purpose of this was to encourage employers to keep trained staff so that production
can recover more quickly in response to recovering demand. Germany used this to take
advantage of rising demand when the global economy improved. (The Daily Signal, 2017)
(theOECD, 2017) The GDP of Germany was at its lowest in 2007 at 37K. during the economic
recession the economy had taken a small hit but was able to recover and gain more GDP. As
from 2009 to 2005 the GDP grew from 37.7K GDP to 48K GDP. This meant that people had more
income which lead to them purchasing smartphones in the market. Company Shares Company
shares for Germany The main competitors in Germany in the smartphone industry were Nokia
Corp, Samsung Corp, Sony Ericsson Mobile Communication AB, Motorola Inc and Apple Inc.
Throughout 2007 2015 these companies have lost and gained market share. For example, Nokia

Essay about New Urbanism
New Urbanism
New Urbanism, a burgeoning genre of architecture and city planning, is a movement that has come
about only in the past decade. This movement is a response to the proliferation of conventional
suburban development (CSD), the most popular form of suburban expansion that has taken place
since World War II. Wrote Robert Steuteville, Lacking a town center or pedestrianscale, CSD
spreads out to consume large areas of countryside even as population grows relatively slowly.
Automobile use per capita has soared, because a motor vehicle is required for nearly all human
transportation 1. New Urbanism, therefore, represents the converse of this planning ideology. It
stresses traditional planning, including multi purpose zoning, ... Show more content on

Drawing upon the lessons of urban revitalization, Seaside also utilizes a strong network of
neighborhood associations that not only work to continuously beautify the area but collect dues to
ensure that it is done so.4
Perhaps the most definitive example of New Urbanism has been DPZ s project, Kentlands, a 352
acre community in Gaithersburg, Maryland begun in 1990. An oasis of good planning in a sea of
suburbia, it is not only a model of Traditional Neighborhood Design (TND) but also the predecessor
to many other such neighborhoods developed within CSD areas. In Kentlands, much like Seaside,
the Citizens Assembly runs a recreation center and provides for common maintenance of public
areas. Civic buildings and shopping in mixed use buildings are within walking distance of the
development s six architecturally distinct neighborhoods. This compact design reduces auto traffic
significantly, allows children to go about their daily business without requiring a mother chauffeur
and puts workplaces near their employees.5
Unique character is worked into the community s design wherever possible:
Kentlands has idiosyncrasy and imperfections intentionally. Authentic variety is achieved by
allowing odd, leftover lots to remain, forcing the design of a building for just that lot. We insisted
that the imprecision of design sketches be reflected in the built work. It took years for the
engineers to get used to not straightening every street or making every

The Role of Washington County, Ohio in the Success of the Underground Railroad
Gone, gone, sold and gone

From Virginia s hills and waters,
Woe is me, my stolen daughters!

Families torn apart, humans sold on auction blocks, using humans for animal labor. These tragedies
along with the words of the Quaker poet John Whiittier are just the beginning when trying to
explain the motivation for abolitionists helping to free slaves.
The Underground Railroad was a path to safety and freedom for thousands of slaves before the
Civil War. Escaping from the chains, confinement and abuse of slavery was no easy taskand it took

The Underground Railroad was the path that slaves took while escaping. It consisted of stations or
depots (houses), conductors (those who lived in the homes), tracks ( the actual trail they took) and
even station masters and presidents who led the efforts in their area. The railroad analogy was used
to describe many aspects of this anti slavery activity. The code helped those involved in freeing the
slaves communicate with each other without others understanding.

Analysis Of Henrik Ibsen s Ibsen
Henrik Ibsen is a very common and almost an essential person if you where to judge him by his
plays. Ibsen plays are a symbolic representation of how to deal with the reality of social issues.
Social issues can be manipulated and used as a powerful political weapon. During this period
writers would commonly form information in order to gain the attention and support of the public.
Henrik Ibsenunderstood human nature, he played a crucial role in exploring and illuminating
society by uniting honesty and the reality of life, through his work. Writing as a psychologist,
Ibsen could quickly sway others when it came to understanding his creative work. His
relationship with human life formed an intense social and abstract perspective, which is the
essence of art. Ibsen s work as a writer mainly symbolized a long writing style that reflection on
people s need to live in a more advance mental way. Ibsen wrote about the contradiction between
ability and the aspiration between will and possibility. Ibsen commonly uses a great deal of
desperation in his work. Within the darkness of his work the conflict mainly surrounded
humanity and the individual tragedy of one s true self. Ibsen would use symbols that represented
how the social issues within his work would be part of reality. His plays allowed a combination of
the feminist social issues and reality. The subjects were expressed in both Hedda Gabler and A Doll
s House is extensive and diverse.

Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat Short Story
The story of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is integral to the overall narrative of
the Israelites descent into Egypt. It also tells us that anyone can make his or her dreams come true.
His progression from dream interpreting shepherd to minister of Egypt is one of the most elaborate
stories in the Bible, the Book of Genesis. Joseph was born in a family of 12 boys and Joseph was his
father s favorite. Jacob wanted to show everyone how much he loved Joseph and decided to give
him coat of many colors. The coat of colors was a prestige gift in Canaan, because it was very
expensive back then. Joseph had a dream of 11 sheaves of corn that turned and bowed down to a
golden sheaf of corn another dream that was about the sun, moon, and sky with eleven stars
bowing down before a bright golden star. He knew that someday he was meant for more things to
come that are powerful in his life. This was Gods way to show him that he will be great someday
and be a ruler. With the combination of knowing Joseph is Jacob s favorite son and Joseph s
dreams of being one that he may be a ruler of some kind, the 11 brothers become very jealous.
One day, they decided that they wanted to kill him, but before they get the chance, they came
across a couple of Ishmaelite s on their way to Egypt. They decided to sell Joseph as a slave. As
Joseph is taken to Egypt, his brothers return home, told their father that Joseph is dead; they
brought back his coat stained with goat blood

to surveys and research and thus it is informative. I think the article is also persuasive by giving
several approaches to overcome addiction which to be very effective. The article also shows show
sarcasm in paragraph eight which mentioned that its hard to go to Disney World with your family
while he or she is shooting heroine. Although it is sarcastic but it is so true. For the second article,
the author bias in the truth of addiction where most people do no know. For example, more people

the first and second most effective approach to overcome addiction where the first method wasn t

After coming to America Essay
After coming to America
All people seem to want the same basic things out of life regardless of race or religion.
Universally, people want a good job, a healthy family, and a chance for their children to have a
better life than the one they have. Families that already possess these things, whether through their
own hard work or merely by way of inheritance, rely on the existing power structures within society
to ensure that their future happiness continues . But what do people who do not belong to existing
power structures turn to in order to secure these things for their families and children?
During the course of America s lifetime, million upon millions of people left their homes and
families in other countries and traveled to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While many rights were now theirs, one common, significant change was that slave families ...
could now live together (Foner 7). Blacks could now join together and work toward a better future,
just like all other Americans could.
Because of the active participation of the federal government, laws were passed so that former
slaves could enjoy the benefits of the freedom just awarded to them. In South Carolina, blacks
demanded access to all the opportunities and privileges enjoyed by whites (14). Black
delegations in North Carolina, Alabama, Virginia and Tennessee all struggled to secure blacks a
modicum of justice in the local courts (15). Schools were set up to educate the former slaves.
Laws were passed that extended the rights of property ownership and the vote. Businesses were
started and churches were built. All of the rights enjoyed by all other Americans were finally
beginning to be enjoyed by these former slaves. But these gains were temporary.
White southerners, accustomed to making the decisions for blacks, resented this new power base,
and quickly came to see these new leaders as insolent boors indulging in legislative license, lording
it over downtrodden whites, looting the public treasury... ( Burns 23). When a political agreement

Power Through Language In Animal Farm By George Orwell
Power through language Languages from different countries and the way words are said can
express many different forms of power among many different people. In the novel Animal Farm
by George Orwell pigs, that represents leaders, they have many different ways of exerting power
and keeping the other farm animals faithful and working. Language can be used to exert power
through many different ways of showing how bad something is or by simply raising pitch. The
most effective way that language is used for power is by scaring people that something horrible
will happen if they don t listen to their leader making them fear the cause or person. Squealer, a

who says comrade will bring up the other animals memory of how moved they were. Later on
Napoleon became a bossy leader and then he made Minimus write a poem about Napoleon

speech he keeps saying how bad humans are which in comparison makes the animals look better
he said There, comrades, is the answer to all our problems. It is summed up in a single word
Man. (28) Throughout his speech he keeps going back to how bad humans are and that it would
be better if the animals controlled themselves. At the end of his speech Old Major sums it all up
by saying All men are enemies. All animals are comrades. (31) Repeating in either a different tone

Reflective Essay On Community Activities
1. MRC Community Participation The opportunities for community building within MRC are
abundant and seem to never end. This chance to connect, build, and maintain relationships with
fellow peers interested in research and a community is a priceless experience that is very unique
to MRC. In just a few short months, I have actively aimed to attend every event that was offered,
soaking in all of the opportunities that MRC has to offer. While I haven t made it to every
event, I do try my best to find time for my community. Firstly, my favorite event that MRC hosts
is MRC tea time, for this is a great way to meet MRC alumni, converse with the wonderful staff,
and share stories with friends from the fourth and fifth floors, all while drinking warm tea! I
truly love this event and I met one of my great friends there, Milan, and a helpful mentor,
Maddie! Because picking favorite MRC events feels like picking my favorite family members, I
am now just going to list some of the amazing events I have been to. The creativity within MRC
is absolutely astonishing! This is evident by all of the fun events planned by our own members. I
have been to an event for building zen gardens, and solving a murder case, and a game night
where there was a karaoke machine. I have watched La La Landwith fourth floor middle Jo and
popped my stress away with Crystal and her floor. STEPS encouraged me to step out of my

Could you picture yourself growing up as in a world where everyone treated you differently or
thought that you were stupid just because you are unable to hear? Well Mark Drolsbaugh
experienced that first hand. He explains his story of how he dealt with his hearing loss in his
novel Deaf Again. The book begins with a small child who could hear just fine, but as the story
progresses he becomes hard of hearingand eventually deaf. All this happens with in a couple of
years. Mark realized that he had a hearing problem in the first grade when he was presenting a

be the only Deaf student to graduate from Germantown Friends School. He later attended

While at Gallaudet he learned a lot about Deaf Culture and also met his wife there. He had a hard
life but in the end it is what made him who he was. Every parent who has a Deaf child should
read this book so they would understand what they need to do so their child has the most
advantage with their education and everyday life. There are many lessons that are taught, like you
should not force a child to use a hearing aid because they need to make their own decisions about
how they want to live, they might want to try to hear or just stay deaf because that is who they are.

Guidelines For Classification Of Water Hardness Essay
Water is measured in milligrams per liter or parts per million. In Table 1, the guidelines for
classification of water hardness can be found. This table shows the different amounts of CaCO3,
calcium carbonate, in mg/L that cause water to be soft too hard.
Hardness in mg/L CaCO3Degree of Hardness
0 30 Very soft
31 60 Soft
61 120 Moderately soft/ moderately hard
121 180 Hard
180 Very hard Table 1.4 General guidelines for classification of water hardness
Two methods that are utilized in measuring the hardness of water are EDTA and AA. The EDTA,
ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid, method contains 3 steps. First, preparation of a standard Ca2+
solution is needed. Second, standardization of EDTA with a standard calciumsolution has to occur.
The final step is an analysis of an unknown Ca2+ sample with the standardized EDTA solution
(Community College of Rhode Island). During the lab, a NH3/NH4 buffer was added to the sample
water to make the solution basic, a pH of around 10. EBT, eriochrome black T, was then added to
this solution. The solution turned blue when EBT was added. If magnesium were present in the
water, the solution would turn red. Then, EDTA, which has a known concentration, was added the
red solution. The EDTA reacts with the calcium that is present in the solution bringing the solution
back to its clear color. After it reacted with calcium, it will react with the magnesium turning the
solution to blue. Overall, magnesium has to be

Essay on Analysis of Seamus Heaney s North
Analysis of Seamus Heaney s North
The poet Keats wrote that the only means of strengthening one s intellect is to make up one s own
mind about nothing to let the mind be a thoroughfare for all thought, not a select body . That this
may be an admirable aim for a poet, and especially so for one writing against a background of
ethnic violence, is not in doubt. It is, however, extremely difficult to remain neutral when one
identifies oneself with an ethnic party involved in conflict. It is my intention, then, in this essay, to
document how Seamus Heaney s reaction to violence in his homeland has affected his writings,
with particular reference to the volume of poetry entitled North . This volume first appeared in
1975, a year after the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reading these last two stanzas of the poem, it is not difficult to understand why it caused outrage
upon its publication. To even the most liberal of readers it surely must seem that the poet is in
league with those who tar and feather women merely for having friends from the wrong side .
One can accept that a casual onlooker may not risk life and limb to intervene to aid a stranger;
what one finds much more difficult to accept is that Heaney, on seeing young women tarred and
weeping, understands the ... tribal, intimate revenge . This is poetry as catharsis. Although
adultery and dating British soldiers are obviously two different things, they are both activities
which occur outside the tribe. The sense of tribalism is present throughout and is presented as an

Similarities Between Pretty Woman and Breakfast at...
Have you ever seen immoral films? I have. According to the dictionary of American English (4th
Ed. Longman), Immoral is defined as morally wrong, and not acceptable by society. Pretty Woman
and Breakfast at Tiffany s are two very immoral movie pictures. Although, they have a lot of
differences; however, they are similar in three specific ways: their attraction, their poverty, and their
transformation One important similarity between Pretty Womanand Breakfast at Tiffany s is their
attraction. In Pretty Woman, Vivian is a Los Angeles prostitute with her lifestyle and a need to pay
her rent meets Edward Lewis, a wealthy, a successful businessman on Hollywood Boulevard to ask
for directions. She was willing to assist him, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After 2E leaves, Holly enters Paul s apartment and learns that he is a writer who has not had
anything published in five years. Another similarity is their poverty. Not only Vivian, but also
Holly does not have any money, they are very poor. They have almost the same lifestyle because
all of them were looking for money. They were willing to do anything to survive and pay their
rent. Their dreams are one day to find somewhere out, there is a rich, good looking and
intelligent man who is looking to marry them. Vivian couldn t go shopping on Rodeo Drive; the
saleswomen disdain her because of her unsophisticated appearance. She was trying to talk to
Barnard Thompson (Hector Elizondo), the hotel manager pretending that Edward was her uncle,
after a long conversation he surrenders and decides to help her buy a dress, even coaching her on
dinner etiquette. Holly, her job was every weekly visit to Sally Tomato (Alan Reed), a mobster
confined at Sing Sing prison. Tomato s lawyer O Shaughnessy pays her $100 a week to receive the
weather report.
Last but not least, one similarity between Vivian and Holly are their transformation. Anyone can
see that Vivian has been transformed. Edward returns and is visibly amazed by Vivian s
transformation. Vivian job is to escort Edward everywhere and she needs to be well dressed. She
does her job very well. The first one was to go to the business dinner. It does not end well, however,

Understand The Importance Of Secondary Schools
Students need to attend school regularly. They can learn new skills that can be applied in the
future. Schools are effective as they teach students how to socialise and become great leaders.
However, schools cannot be effective unless students are focussed during lessons and are in good
health. In my opinion, there are issues that I feel secondary schools can address to ensure the
health, well being and safety of their students.
Firstly, secondary schools can help students who are suffering from obesity. Obesity occurs when
one has an excessive amount of fat stored beneath the skin. Obesity is caused by certain risk
factors, which include the lack of physical exercise, and those who lead a sedentary lifestyle. As a
result, obesity may lead to medical issues such as diabetes and high blood pressure. To deal with
this issue, secondary schools can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The school s hygiene is very important as schools are the place where students spend a lot of time
in. If schools are not clean, it could lead to problems like the spread of virus caused by presence
of bacteria and germs. Bacteria and germs release toxins which can damage human cells. When
students are infected with bacteria and germs, they may fall ill. This will affect the students
academic performances. To tackle this problem, schools can start a recycling programme.
Educating students about the importance of recycling and the environment provides a path to a
greener future. Since paper is the main form of waste in schools, schools can encourage students
to set up a paper collection for each classroom by making boxes catered for unused papers. The
students and teachers can make good use of the recycled papers to be reused for rough work, for
instance. Therefore, I believe that secondary schools can highlight the importance to the students of
recycling and reusing materials, so that they do not harm the

Essay on London s Economy
King (1990, page x) argues that the dissolution of empire has been critical to the growth of world
cities. How far does this apply to
London?
Modern patterns of development and growth have been shaped and influenced by the historical
context of colonialism. Within this context relationships between capitalist and pre capitalist states
or colonies helped forge a world economy, which would later lead to processes of globalisation and
the current economic world order.
Expansion in the world economy has been exacerbated by the freer flow of labour, goods,
services and capital, which are features of the post war, post colonial world. King contends that
these factors have been critical to the growth of world cities. (King, 1990: ... Show more content on

H.G Wells described his impression of imperial London:
It s a great place. Immense. The richest town in the world, the biggest port, the greatest
manufacturing town, the imperial city the centre of civilisation, the heart of the world. (Wells H.G,
1908:73)
In this essay I will be discussing the significance of King s argument with reference to the city of
London. Imperial London will be introduced followed by a discussion of London s decline and its
patterns of modern growth in order to ascertain how far King s argument applies to the City.
Different types of growth are included, but emphasis is largely placed on the geographical and
economic dimensions of London s change and development.
London s imperial role was crucial to the expansion of its fortunes.
Growth was inextricably linked with the colonial empire and took place in several key areas
during the colonial interlude. London s Docklands represented a melting pot of colonial trade and
commerce and were a critical facet of London s (and Great Britain s) economy that fed aspects of
growth into the city centre and enabled it to thrive. In
1700 London handled 80% of the country s imports and 69% of its exports. Trade with colonies in
the Caribbean, Southeast Asia and the
Indian Sub Continent brought in tea, china, rice, tobacco and spices to the City and in 1799 the
West India Company began to build docks on the Isle of Dogs

Light Essays
LIGHT: A FUNDAMENTAL FORCE IN OUR WORLD
If asked what light is, one could say that it s one of the most basic
elements of our world and our universe as we perceive it. It is through
sight that we receive 90% of our information. It is through the use of
telescopes aiding the naked eye that we are aware of the heavenly bodies
around us. It is through light that the energy from the sun is transferred
to us. The sun s energy supports the food chain; plants use it to turn
water and CO2 into energy usable by other organisms. Solar energy was also
used, indirectly, to produce all of the fossil fuels that we consume daily.
Since light is such a basic part of our existence, we should have a basic ... Show more content on

When these return to their normal, or quot;ground quot; state, energy is
produced in the form of electricity. Thus, light is termed a
quot;wave particle, quot; and this property is called the quot;wave particle duality of
nature. quot; Many questions concerning what makes up light still lie
unanswered, but this much is thought to be true.
Light can be produced in a variety of ways. Our sun, like other stars,
uses nuclear fusion to produce energy in the form of light and radiation.
We can produce light artificially using several methods. If one starts a
fire, it produces light and heat. (Heat, which is infrared radiation, is
another type of light energy.) The light and heat are a result of a
chemical reaction, the combining of oxygen with the carbon in the wood.
This reaction leaves behind products which have less potential energy than
they started with. The energy, which left as light and heat, was produced
when electrons dropped in energy levels during the reaction. The excess
energy from one atom was given off as a photon, producing light. If one
examines a fluorescent or incandescent light bulb, one can see that all it
is doing is having electricity stimulate a metallic or gaseous substrate,
causing it to give off photons. The principle is the same as it was with
the fire, only it is more controlled. Still more

Similarities Between Gilgamesh And The Bible

effects of the flood and how it helped future generations throughout the world.
Between the three flood stories, there are any similarities and differences. In all the stories humans

Animals for Research and Experimentation
Currently it is estimated that more than 100 million animals are used for research and
experimentation on around the world every year. Apart from all the benefits of animal testing there
are many good reasons which support banning the experimentations on animals such as: animal
cruelty, selfishness, and danger of using the experiments result. Therefore animal experimentation
should be banned.
These days, animal testing has brought a lot of issues in the society. The first and foremost
argument that is presented against animal testing deals with the issue of animal cruelty. The pain
which is caused to the lab animals and the condition in which they are held captive for
experimentation are not healthy at all. During the research process animals are killed and harmed,
isn t killing an animal the same thing as murder? We re now living in the 21st century, and
subjecting animals to long and painful experiments is no longer needed to advance as a society.
Banning animal testing will in no way hurt any advancement in the future. 9 out of 10 times, the
testing is found inaccurate in the end anyways. We now have alternatives such as bio engineering
and computer modelling that can provide us better, more accurate results than animal testing. It s
also a much faster and cheaper method. Would you allow testing products, etc. on human babies or
those mentally disabled because they have lower IQ than the average adult human? Obviously not
because it s not ethical. Then how is it that

Professionalism, Integrity, Honesty, And Professionalism
Introduction/Purpose/Objective Professionalism in nursing provides an important framework for
the continual development and advancement in the nursing profession. As healthcare providers,
nurses are held to high standards of practice for providing safe, effective, evidence based care to
clients. As the healthcare system continuously advances, the level of professionalism becomes
crucially imperative to nurses and other professionals. Throughout the years nursing has
continuously been regarded as one of the most trusted professions. As a result of this significant
rating, it s important for nurses to maintain integrity and honesty while upholding the core values of
their respective institutions to provide safe and effective patient centered care (Olshansky, 2011, p.
193). As healthcare professionals, nurses must strive to incorporate humanistic qualities such as
integrity, honesty and compassion into their respective field of practice. When nurses exhibit a
sense of openness and trust into their patient care, clients can have a sense of assurance that they
re in safe hands, gaining the client s trust paves the way for the client to trust their nurse as an
advocate who has their best interest. Nurses act as advocates for their clients, and therefore, have a
responsibility to voice their concerns when it comes to providing quality care to their clients.
Patient advocacy stems from the fact that they may need extra support in order to secure their

Measure By Shakespeare
Mia, I like what you had to say about the relationship between justice and mercy. I agree that
Shakespeare expresses a need for balance between justice and mercy. The only problem with that
is that Measure for Measure displays no real justice, only talks about it. The various characters of
the play solicit for a symbolistic balance, yet live their lives in uneven measures. Justice seems to be
an important theme of Measure for Measure yet its apparent absence found me wanting by the end
of the play. Measure for Measure attempts to examine the difference between justice with and
without mercy and the harmonious balance of both. This topic is of great importance during the
time this play was written because the means of punishment frequently

A study done by Dr. George Reeves (1942) showed that emotional states play an important role
in the quality of people s eating habits. He studies five obese white women. Dr. Reeves
concluded that (a) obesity was used at a defense mechanism (b) these patterns were sadistic and
masochistic (c) oral satisfaction extended beyond social acceptable forms and (d) obesity was
used to simulate a masculine ideal. This study was limited because he had only five cases of
women, and they were all the same race and around the same age. Hirsch and Morse (1960)
presented a study to relate emotions to obesity and establish correlations between metabolic
findings from the obese patients in their study. They brought 74 patients to the Victoria General
Hospital Outpatient Obesity Clinic. The patients were given a questionnaire that was oriented
around their obesity history. The material from the interview were reviewed for symptoms of
emotional distress such as depression, anxiety, delusions, etc. 27 of the 74 patients were judged to
have a diagnosable psychiatric disorder after the questionnaire was completed. This study however
was unreliable because there was no average weighted people to interview as a control, also the
people in the study were unprepared to think abstractly, so the physician guided them throughout
the questionnaire, which made the data unreliable. Collyer (1974) backed Reeves (1942)

Why Are The Witches Important In Macbeth
In the play of Macbeth, the witches have a major impact on the plot and effect on the man Macbeth.
They helped produce the story that generations of people have come to love and, without them, the
story would have been completely different. They not only caused Macbeth s power to rise, but
they also bring him to his tragic downfall. Through their influence, Macbethtransformed from the
war hero that Scotland loved to the brutal tyrant who ruled the land. Due to this, the witches have
the biggest impact on the story than any other minor character the audience meets.
From the beginning, the witches are well aware of the evil they re about to cause. When the play

becomes obvious when the second witch says that they will meet again when the hurly burly s

Marx s Critique Of Capitalism And Society Essay
Alienation was a topic of central importance to the young Marx, which analysed the way in which
society organises itself around the modes of production and how this materialistic structure
(particularly in a capitalist society) can lead to a sense of estrangement or separation of a worker
from the product of his labour. In order to demonstrate this theory of alienation, I will examine it in
relation to Marx s critique of capitalist society and will then proceed to talk about the different
forms and whether or not the phenomenon is still seen today in contemporary society.
In order to understand the concept of alienation and its dimensions, we must first understand how it
is related to Marx s critique of capitalism and society. As stated above, Marx believed that the
development of history was a sequence of the modes of production. This refers to the way that
society is organised to produce goods and services, vital to human existence. Marx believed as
human beings, in order to survive and enhance our social being, we must produce material
requirements of subsistence (Seligman, 1901, p163) and the way that we do this is through the
modes of production. The modes of production consist of two major aspects: 1) the productive
forces i.e. land, raw material, labour power, machinery, tools etc. used to produce material goods 2)
the relations of production: whether you own and control the means of production or whether you do
not. (McLennan et al, 2010)

SIP and H323 are two known signalling protocol. SIP was founded by Internet Engineering Task
Force (IETF) while H323 was created by International Telecommunication Union (ITU). However,
SIP is the most one used because it is simple to implement and easy to connected. Due to its simple
implementation and high popularity, SIP is becoming attractive target for many different attackers.
In order to secure SIP against attackers, many security mechanisms have been suggested in the RFC
3261 such as HTTP Digest authentication , TLS, S/MIME. HTPP Digest allow to SIP server to
authenticate the client s identity, however it is discovered vulnerable to many attacks, Then other
SIP authentication are proposed. For more information about SIP authentication see the survey
study.
Various attacks can be launched by attackers in SIP environment such as DoS attacks, toll fraud
attacks, fishing attacks and SPIT (Spam over IP Telephony). Dos aims to exhaust servers
resources (Memory, CPU..) and bandwidth. This attack can be caused by malformed message or
by flooding attack. In this work we concentrate on flooding attack. To secure SIP against flooding
attacks many works have been done and various approaches have been proposed. However, the
problem still exists and most of proposed approaches focused on detection of the attack without
exploiting its results.

Possession And Use Of Marijuana
Possession and use of cannabis, also commonly known as marijuana, is considered illegal. For
years marijuana has been an illegal drug in most countries. In today s world a few countries have
legalized cannabis while others are still progressing toward it. In particular, small amount of
marijuana have been allowed in places such as Europe, North America and South America. In the
United States in particular, states such as Washington and Colorado have also legalized the usage of
marijuana for medical/recreational purposes. On the other hand, numerous penalties are enforced
pertaining the use or possession of cannabiswhere it is not legal. The chance of the penalties being
small are seldom; offenders often receive severe punishments. Possession of small quantities of
marijuana is not punished the same way as possession of large quantities of other illegal narcotics.
In this essay, there will be an in depth argument on the reasons why cannabis should be legalized,
and why it should not.
Firstly, cannabis should be legal and decriminalized since it is used for medication. Its legalization
means better and higher quality health standards. For example, Sativex is a recent marijuana
derived treatment that has been discovered to cure Multiple Sclerosis (Kmietowicz 89). The drug
has been used in the United Kingdom to treat patients, and it has been found to produce effective
results. Banning marijuana would be a disadvantage to people who suffer from diseases that use

Western Techniques In The Searchers
Foreword: It should be noted that while this written piece compares and contrasts The Searchers to
the concept of the stereotypical Western film , the film would most certainly have shaped the
mould for what the stereotypical western was to become. Being one of the largest early Western
films to release, the film s once relatively unique storyline and thematic content have become
subject to being replicated in more recent Westernfilms. Therefore, when comparing the film to the
now conventional Western, it should serve moreso as a critique of the unoriginality of those that
contributed to the genrefollowing The Searchers release.
Introduction
For what is arguably the most successful film to emerge from his long spanning career, film
director John Ford s The Searchers has certainly earned its place as one of the greatest western
films of all time . However, while the film is certainly a staple among other classic 1950s
productions, the genre of Western film does not carry nearly as much weight as it once did over
half a century ago. In recent decades, the genre has grown stale among audiences due to more
recent additions, composing of tedious storylines, repetitive run of the mill characters, and as a
whole becoming incongruous with the evolved social climate which pursues racial equality in the
United States. Being grouped with this genre, The Searchers is often overlooked by ... Show more

performance in the box office both domestically and internationally. However, the themes and

Analysis Of The Strange Case Of Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde,...
During the Victorian era, the United Kingdom underwent many social, political and economic
reforms for a more modern society. These series of reforms are directly represented in the
literature of the time. An excellent example is, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, by
Robert Louis Stevenson, which gives a direct image of what Victorian erawas like with his writing
style as well as the story itself. Specifically, Stevenson portrays exactly how Victorian social life
commenced as well as displays the main points of social standards of the time. Robert Louis
Stevensonuses individual characters in the novellato accurately depict how people protected their
social standing and reputation during the Victorian era.
Mr. Utterson provides insight on how members of Victorian society viewed and judged one
another. Throughout the novella, Mr. Utterson is partaking in somewhat of a detective role in
an attempt to learn more about Mr. Hyde, who is the primary recipient of all of Dr. Jekyll s
belongings; stated in his will. He first hears of Mr. Edward Hyde from his distant relative while
on a walk one day. His relative, Mr. Enfield describes Mr. Hyde as a deformed and detestable
man (Stevenson 12). However the conversation abruptly ends when Mr. Utterson explains that he
knows of this man and a relationship he has with a one, Dr. Jekyll. As soon as Mr. Enfield
realizes that his relative, as well as, a doctor of a high social standing knew such a hideously

sector is quiet and it has two schools near each other. One of the schools is named M.S 224 and
in front of this school there is an empty little garden yard where students can go to help cultivate
new plants and keep this place in good conditions. I saw how students were enjoying planting
new plants. Furthermore, in front of the school M.S 224 there is a church named Evangelical
Garifuna. There was a painting in front of the door of this church what caught my attention and
I stopped to see it closer. This painting was nice and it has the words respect, peace and love,
while this picture depicted it by having two hands holding the world with a white pigeon. I
thought it was a nice message what this painting try to display to all the passers. In East 140 on

Geology Personal Statement
Our planet is over 4.5 billion years old and yet we have only touched the surface of knowledge
that it withholds. I am naturally very curious, so the mysteries of our planet have fascinated me.
My enthusiasm in Geology grew when I was introduced to physical Geography at GCSE level and
thoroughly enjoyed the topic of plate tectonics leading me to further pursue Geologyat A level.
My interest in Geology encouraged me to join the Liverpool Geological Society and attend
several lectures. The latest was on the geology of Greenland by Dr Maggie Williams giving me an
insight into how Geology affects different societies, even those at the remotest corners of the
world. I have also attended two recent Herdman symposiums at Liverpool University and
particularly appreciated the talk on Curiosity: The Mars rover. In addition, a lecture on the mining
of rare earth elements has inspired me to pursue an extended project qualification on the
exploitation of these metals within China and why they currently dominate the trade market with

The Federal Bureau Of Prisons
Healthcare is a big topic no matter how you view it, but when looking at it from the point of a
person who is in prison, it takes on a whole new view. Those who are in prison have federal and
state laws that say that the prisons must provide them with medical facilities for their healthcare
needs. This paper will identify a governmental agency that regulates the healthcare that is provided
to prisoners in an institution within the United States, along with the foundation of such an agency
and who regulates the licenses, accreditation, certifications, and authorization for employment for
those who work within one of these facilities.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons
The Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) is an agency that was created on May 14, 1930 and
approved of by then president Herbert Hoover. Its main headquarters is in Washington, D.C. The
BOP is a subdivision of the United States Justice Department and is responsible for the
administration of the federal prison system. Its sole purpose is to provide more open minded and
compassionate care to those who are federal inmates within the United States prison system. This
agency is also responsible for providing medically needed health care to inmates in agreement with
federal and state laws. One of the most negative aspects that the BOP is responsible for is carrying
out all judicially mandated federal executions, including the lethal injection of inmates who have
been sentenced to death for a crime they have

Why Bank Robberies Have Increased Since 1994
I found an article that conducted a study to find why bank robberies have increased since 1994.
The focus of the study was focused to the Chicago Police Department and the Chicago Office of the
Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) where the use of statistics of bank robbers, interviewing
bank robbers, and determining what kind of security measures and security equipment was been
used, the gathering of the information was used to gain insight into bankrobbery(Carrol Loch,
(1997).
The study first focused on basic information of bank robberies, by using records that the FBI kept
when investing bank robbery scenes. This information was very helpful in determining the trends of
bank robbers; the investigators gave suggestions to institutions on how to create better security
measures. The investigator took all the FBI reports and placed them into a database for future
reference (Carrol Loch, (1997).
The investigator wanted to learn what motivated bank robbers so they interviewed offenders
either in federal or local correctional institutes. They have currently interviewed five offenders,
varying from robbers who passed notes to armed single robbers to a group or gang robberies.
They found that robbers would avoid certain banks do to security systems; investigator also
learned how offenders planned robberies. They found that all offenders interviewed would be
deterred from robbing a bank if there were uniformed security present. The offenders were aware
of the dye packs and

It is with great grief that I write you this letter in regards to the passing of your daughter. I wish

circumstance, neglecting to explain to you the reasoning for the actions that took place on the
ship would be unjust on my part. My dear friends, you are at least owed an explanation for the
tragic sacrifice of your daughter, of which I intend to give you. The motives behind the mission in
question were as follows; 6 colonist nursing terminal illnesses awaited the serum carried in the

The fact of the matter is Marilyn put her needs ahead of a law she did not understand and must

amount of people, and when reviewing the reasonable consequences to be expected; the death
of these 7 men, against the additional hours of life we could have given Marilyn by allowing her

Nvc Tool Analysis
Reflect on the usefulness of the two tools.
I particularly enjoyed reading all about SCARF, more so than NVC, I think because I can relate
more to it. Perhaps this means I need to work more on NVC? I m not sure because I also like to
think I can politely and correctly communicate with others, usually doing it assertively but in a non
violent way.
The five key elements of SCARF (Status, Certainty, Autonomy, Relatedness, and Fairness) were
perhaps a little more natural to me, than using the NVC process, except for Autonomy, which I have
only just learned about in this unit.
I believe they are both very useful to learn, perfect and utilize in every day life with relationships,
at work, with the self, etc.
How would you apply the two tools in your daily life? Use two concrete examples for both tools (4
examples).

me, and could be potentially putting a strain on some of my personal relationships, it is important
to me to move onto the next stage of my life as soon as possible; we will all be happier.
I did not really know much at all about autonomy until reading Rock s Journal (2008), but it is
something I naturally crave (especially the element of control). I thought it was just down to the F

Discrimination In Classical Conditioning
1. Classical conditioning:
When I was younger, my parents argued a lot! The more it happened, the more I thought it was
normal. As a child, I believed that everyone argued in such a manner.
2. Discrimination in classical conditioning:
According to Carver (2010), discrimination stimulus is a cue that controls the occurrence of
behavior. In softball, there were different signs that my coach would give me. Certain signs meant
to steal the base on bunt. We he didn t want me to anything he would throw out random signs that
meant nothing. These signs would confuse the other team, so that they could not pick up on what
we were communicating.

Positive reinforcement:
In school, I was motivated to read books as a child, not necessarily because I enjoyed them, but
because I was rewarded when I finished. If I finished the book and passed the test I would get
points, which I could exchange for pencils or other nik naks.
5. Negative reinforcement:
As a child, I would refuse to clean my room. If I didn t clean my room, my mom wouldn t let me
watch TV or play with my friends. Needless to say, I quickly changed those habits.
6. Discrimination in operant conditioning:
As I said earlier, my coach would use signals to tell me what to do when I was playing softball. I
knew which signal meant bunt and which meant steal. This is an example of discrimination,
because I can distinguish between the different signals.
7. Generalization in operant conditioning:
My grandmother taught me how to cook in her kitchen. Now, I can cook a meal in any kitchen.
8. Shaping in operant conditioning:
When I first started running, I would reward myself when I reached a quarter mile. Then, I would
only reward myself when I hit a half mile. I kept doing this until I finally reached a full mile. Then,
I no longer rewarded myself for running the mile.

Systematic Economic Change And Poverty Reduction

Systematic Economic Change and Poverty Reduction: The Effects of Governance on Inequality
Liberalization is a term that has dominated the minds, and governments of Latin America from the
advent of the region encompassing debt crisis of the 1980s. Many reforms, with the idea of
opening up the market and reducing barriers to trade in order to increase growth, control inflation,
and reduce social unrest, have taken hold in the region in notable countries such as Mexico. In,
Programs on Poverty and Inequality: Chile, Mexico, and Peru, John Sheahan explores the
reasons as to why liberalization programs have seemingly worked in some countries, and have
had lackluster effects in others. Chile, for example, is often cited as the shining beacon of
economic example in Latin America, and is also grouped in with the East Asian economies that
developed to the level of Western Europe from the 1980s onwards. Conversely, Mexico has had
disappointing growth that has never recovered to pre 1980s levels, along with social unrest and
failures in governance. This paper will explore the questions: Why does poverty persist so much
in some countries in the region e.g. Mexico, and Peru to a lesser extent, and why does it seem
effectively controlled in other parts, such as in Chile? Sheahan argues that direct social programs
are increasing in popularity as effective forms of controlling the negative effects of liberalization
reforms, but that they

This movement is a response to the proliferation of conventional suburban development (CSD), the most popular form of suburban expansion that has taken place since World War II. Wrote Robert Steuteville, Lacking a town center or pedestrianscale, CSD spreads out to consume large areas of countryside even as population grows relatively slowly. Automobile use per capita has soared, because a motor vehicle is required for nearly all human transportation 1. New Urbanism, therefore, represents the converse of this planning ideology. Drawing upon the lessons of urban revitalization, Seaside also utilizes a strong network of neighborhood associations that not only work to continuously beautify the area but collect dues to ensure that it is done so.4 Perhaps the most definitive example of New Urbanism has been DPZ s project, Kentlands, a 352 acre community in Gaithersburg, Maryland begun in 1990. An oasis of good planning in a sea of suburbia, it is not only a model of Traditional Neighborhood Design (TND) but also the predecessor to many other such neighborhoods developed within CSD areas. In Kentlands, much like Seaside, the Citizens Assembly runs a recreation center and provides for common maintenance of public areas. Civic buildings and shopping in mixed use buildings are within walking distance of the development s six architecturally distinct neighborhoods. This compact design reduces auto traffic significantly, allows children to go about their daily business without requiring a mother chauffeur and puts workplaces near their employees.5 Unique character is worked into the community s design wherever possible: Kentlands has idiosyncrasy and imperfections intentionally. Authentic variety is achieved by allowing odd, leftover lots to remain, forcing the design of a building for just that lot. We insisted that the imprecision of design sketches be reflected in the built work. It took years for the engineers to get used to not straightening every street or making every ... Families that already possess these things, whether through their own hard work or merely by way of inheritance, rely on the existing power structures within society to ensure that their future happiness continues . Black delegations in North Carolina, Alabama, Virginia and Tennessee all struggled to secure blacks a modicum of justice in the local courts (15). Schools were set up to educate the former slaves. Laws were passed that extended the rights of property ownership and the vote. Businesses were started and churches were built. All of the rights enjoyed by all other Americans were finally beginning to be enjoyed by these former slaves. But these gains were temporary. The EDTA, ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid, method contains 3 steps. First, preparation of a standard Ca2+ solution is needed. Second, standardization of EDTA with a standard calciumsolution has to occur. The final step is an analysis of an unknown Ca2+ sample with the standardized EDTA solution (Community College of Rhode Island). During the lab, a NH3/NH4 buffer was added to the sample water to make the solution basic, a pH of around 10. EBT, eriochrome black T, was then added to this solution. Essay on Analysis of Seamus Heaney s North Analysis of Seamus Heaney s North The poet Keats wrote that the only means of strengthening one s intellect is to make up one s own mind about nothing to let the mind be a thoroughfare for all thought, not a select body . That this may be an admirable aim for a poet, and especially so for one writing against a background of ethnic violence, is not in doubt. It is, however, extremely difficult to remain neutral when one identifies oneself with an ethnic party involved in conflict. Schools are effective as they teach students how to socialise and become great leaders. However, schools cannot be effective unless students are focussed during lessons and are in good health. In my opinion, there are issues that I feel secondary schools can address to ensure the health, well being and safety of their students. Firstly, secondary schools can help students who are suffering from obesity. Obesity occurs when one has an excessive amount of fat stored beneath the skin. Educating students about the importance of recycling and the environment provides a path to a greener future. Since paper is the main form of waste in schools, schools can encourage students to set up a paper collection for each classroom by making boxes catered for unused papers. Modern patterns of development and growth have been shaped and influenced by the historical context of colonialism. Within this context relationships between capitalist and pre capitalist states or colonies helped forge a world economy, which would later lead to processes of globalisation and the current economic world order. It is through light that the energy from the sun is transferred to us. The sun s energy supports the food chain; plants use it to turn water and CO2 into energy usable by other organisms. Light can be produced in a variety of ways. Our sun, like other stars, uses nuclear fusion to produce energy in the form of light and radiation. This dynamic, so essential to the history of jazz, remains powerful even in the present day, when African American styles of performance blend seamlessly with other musics of other cultures, European, Asian, Latin, and, coming full circle, ... He studies five obese white women. Dr. Reeves concluded that (a) obesity was used at a defense mechanism (b) these patterns were sadistic and masochistic (c) oral satisfaction extended beyond social acceptable forms and (d) obesity was used to simulate a masculine ideal. This study was limited because he had only five cases of women, and they were all the same race and around the same age. Hirsch and Morse (1960) presented a study to relate emotions to obesity and establish correlations between metabolic findings from the obese patients in their study. They brought 74 patients to the Victoria General Hospital Outpatient Obesity Clinic. The patients were given a questionnaire that was oriented around their obesity history. The material from the interview were reviewed for symptoms of emotional distress such as depression, anxiety, delusions, etc. 27 of the 74 patients were judged to have a diagnosable psychiatric disorder after the questionnaire was completed. This study however was unreliable because there was no average weighted people to interview as a control, also the people in the study were unprepared to think abstractly, so the physician guided them throughout the questionnaire, which made the data unreliable. They helped produce the story that generations of people have come to love and, without them, the story would have been completely different. Through their influence, Macbethtransformed from the war hero that Scotland loved to the brutal tyrant who ruled the land. Due to this, the witches have the biggest impact on the story than any other minor character the audience meets. From the beginning, the witches are well aware of the evil they re about to cause. • 38. Marx s Critique Of Capitalism And Society Essay Alienation was a topic of central importance to the young Marx, which analysed the way in which society organises itself around the modes of production and how this materialistic structure (particularly in a capitalist society) can lead to a sense of estrangement or separation of a worker from the product of his labour. In order to demonstrate this theory of alienation, I will examine it in relation to Marx s critique of capitalist society and will then proceed to talk about the different forms and whether or not the phenomenon is still seen today in contemporary society. In order to understand the concept of alienation and its dimensions, we must first understand how it is related to Marx s critique of capitalism and society. As stated above, Marx believed that the development of history was a sequence of the modes of production. This refers to the way that society is organised to produce goods and services, vital to human existence. Marx believed as human beings, in order to survive and enhance our social being, we must produce material requirements of subsistence (Seligman, 1901, p163) and the way that we do this is through the modes of production. The modes of production consist of two major aspects: 1) the productive forces i.e. land, raw material, labour power, machinery, tools etc. used to produce material goods 2) the relations of production: whether you own and control the means of production or whether you do not. In today s world a few countries have legalized cannabis while others are still progressing toward it. In particular, small amount of marijuana have been allowed in places such as Europe, North America and South America. In the United States in particular, states such as Washington and Colorado have also legalized the usage of marijuana for medical/recreational purposes. On the other hand, numerous penalties are enforced pertaining the use or possession of cannabiswhere it is not legal. The chance of the penalties being small are seldom; offenders often receive severe punishments. Possession of small quantities of marijuana is not punished the same way as possession of large quantities of other illegal narcotics. In this essay, there will be an in depth argument on the reasons why cannabis should be legalized, and why it should not. Firstly, cannabis should be legal and decriminalized since it is used for medication. Its legalization means better and higher quality health standards. For example, Sativex is a recent marijuana derived treatment that has been discovered to cure Multiple Sclerosis (Kmietowicz 89). Western Techniques In The Searchers Foreword: It should be noted that while this written piece compares and contrasts The Searchers to the concept of the stereotypical Western film , the film would most certainly have shaped the mould for what the stereotypical western was to become. Being one of the largest early Western films to release, the film s once relatively unique storyline and thematic content have become subject to being replicated in more recent Westernfilms. Therefore, when comparing the film to the now conventional Western, it should serve moreso as a critique of the unoriginality of those that contributed to the genrefollowing The Searchers release. However, while the film is certainly a staple among other classic 1950s productions, the genre of Western film does not carry nearly as much weight as it once did over half a century ago. In softball, there were different signs that my coach would give me. Certain signs meant to steal the base on bunt. We he didn t want me to anything he would throw out random signs that meant nothing. These signs would confuse the other team, so that they could not pick up on what we were communicating. 3.
