Short Story On Solar Eclipse
If there s one thing I know right now, it s that I m not nervous. Then again, I never really get
nervous. I m always thinking about way too much at once. Tests don t get me nervous, roller
coasters don t, not even that at this very moment my younger brother and I are on our way to a
kidnapper s house by free will. Sounds pretty crazy, right? Well, you should also know that I
have superpowers. Everything comes back to that moment of time when day turned to night at
1:25 pm. You know, the solar eclipse. I, being an extreme lover of traveling and all things
bizarre, begged my parents to take my brother and me down to the point of greatest eclipse. To
my greatest delight, they agreed, my parents being the total education endorsers they were. In
the coming weeks we ordered our glasses and read up on all the information we could find.
When the day came, we went down to Kentucky and were met with masses and masses of
people. Everyone was so anxious to see the eclipse they seemed frantic and hysterical. I can
clearly remember the exact expression on the man s face next to us when he realized that he had
bought the wrong glasses for him and his family. Maybe we should have paid more attention to
him and his possibly sneaky hands, but we didn t. The time came for us to slip on our glasses
and in majestic beauty, the moon gracefully floated over the image of bright white light. I stare
for only a few minutes, but then I felt a ray of the sun burn my eyes and before I could close

This Is America Analysis
This is America On May 6, Donald Glover also known as, Childish Gambino, released a music
video that is called This is America that shocked social media. Childish Gambino s video had 21
million views and counting in just a matter of 2 days. The music video takes place in an
abandoned warehouse. Childish Gambino gives examples on how America deals with traumatic
events happening everyday in society. Gun control, police brutality, racism, and murders are the
major events being expressed throughout this video. He does not explain the significance of this
video, he states there is no need for an explanation it s just for the people . He does not feel like it
should be given any context because people can take it and walk... Show more content on

In the beginning of the video it starts off by an african american man walking up to a guitar and
starting to play it, it goes to then childish gambino dancing in a weird way. This is portraying
Jim crow. Seconds later he shoots the guy in the back of the head. You see in the video that the
gun is handled with care, but the body is dragged away without care. This shows how americans
value guns more than human lives. During the whole video you see him dancing with a group
of kids, they follow his every move. The dancing distracts you from all of the chaos in the
background. This could be a symbolism by the youth not being involved with the news and just
going on with their lives like its nothing major. Half way through the video there is a church
choir happily singing and then Childish Gambino comes in starts dancing and smiling then
seconds later he shoots them all up with an AK47. This represents the Charleston church
massive shooting. Toward the end of the video you see Childish Gambino running for his life.
He s running from a mob of all white people, why? Because he will always be running since he s
seen as a criminal . Childish Gambino This is America music video is a real eye opener for some
people because of the strong impacts and symbolisms it has in it. This video won t stop any of the
problems in America but maybe it could be the start of something

Essay about The Terri Schiavo Case and Euthanasia
The poem To the Mercy Killers by Dudley Randall refers to the ongoing debate of the right to
live. If ever mercy move you murder me, I pray you, kindly killers, let me live (Randall 623).
Here he is most likely referring to doctors as kindly killers who feel that letting him die would be
a mercy to him. Randall clearly believes that life is a treasured gift, and should not be purposely
extinguished for any reason. However, terminally ill patients should have the right to decide
whether they want to die or not. In 2003, much of the American public first became aware of a
brain damaged woman named Terri Schiavo. On February 25, 1990, Terri Schiavo collapsed in her
home from unknown causes. Terri s husband, Michael Schiavo, told... Show more content on

outraged. This is a sad day for Terri and this is a sad day for everybody in America because the
government is going to trample on all of your personal and private matters. This is an outrage,
they have no business in this matter. Terri made her wishes, it has been adjudicated in a state
court over the last seven years. Eighteen judges have heard this. Appeals have been heard. The
Supreme Court justices have heard this, and now the House of Representatives and the Senate are
saying that they are wrong. They are thumbing their nose up at the constitution (Democracy Now).
However, the hastily passed laws both the state of Florida and the federal government are
eventually deemed unconstitutional by the courts. The feeding tube is removed on March 18,
2005 despite frantic appeals of the Schindlers and organizations that support them. On March 31,
2005, at 9:05am, Terri Schiavo died a calm, peaceful, and gentle death according to Michael s
attorney (China Daily). The eventual autopsy found that, The damage was irreversible, and that No
amount of therapy or treatment could have regenerated the massive loss of neurons (University of

today. When the case was in the news, everyone had their own opinion. Some believed that just

The Economics of the French and American Revolution Essay
The American and French Revolutions were profoundly motivated by economics. Prior to the
Revolution, British colonies in America were thriving. Colonists paid fairly few taxes and were
permitted to participate in domestic economic activity, granted they adhere to the Navigation Act,
an act requiring, that all trade within the empire be conducted on ships which were constructed,
owned and largely manned by British citizens. Certain enumerated goods whether exported or
imported by the colonies had to be shipped through England regardless of the final port of
destination. (Baack) Its mother country however, was not analogous. England s debt had nearly
doubled due to their victory over France during the 7 Year War and was frantically

Citizens were not permitted to vote as individuals. Instead one vote was given to each of the
three estates, the clergy (first), aristocrats (second), and everyone else excluded from the first
two, who were most commonly peasants and the working class (third) (Roberts et al. 646).
Unsurprisingly, the Third Estate was outvoted and citizens within became furious. They,
...insisted that those who worked [for low wages] and pay taxes were the nation... (Roberts et al.
646) Shortly afterward, the National Assembly was born and was determined to take France s
future into its own (Belloc, 93). The Revolutions became very different throughout the courses of
each. Britain, no doubt was in a better position to fund the war. Firstly, Britain was an established
country with a tax system that had proven to produce revenue. Secondly, it could afford to
generate more debt to fund the war. America however, was only beginning to set up a government
of its own. Although they had a Congress in place, the Articles of Confederation didn t allow it to
tax colonists and without income, it was difficult for Congress to borrow money or replace what
they were spending on the war. Despite this, Congress did not receive any voluntary payments from
the states. In fact, each state began producing their own currencies to make up for the lack of
money; so many different forms of currency were competing with the true currency, the continental
dollar. Britain

Between Shades Of Gray Themes
Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive. Dalai
Lama. This quote is expressed many times in the book, Between Shades of Gray, by Ruta Sepetys.
Lina, the protagonist, is separated from her father. She, her mother, and younger brother, Jonas, go
through traumatizing times most people would crumble under. Yet, she still manages to survive
because she doesn t want to lose her family, traditions, relationships and her dignity. This book
shows, people who value their dignity will survive longer than those who don t.
Many characters of the book don t give up as easily as others. This sets them apart from the rest.
Those people value their family, and would do anything to keep them alive. Ms. Arvydas is an
example. She became a prostitute to protect Andrius from the Soviets. She chose his safety over her
own. For instance, when Andrius clarifies Lina when she wrongly assumed Andrius loyalty to the

pleads for death. Yet, he still survived. As time passes, we realize that there is something keeping
him from killing himself. He tells Lina, If you want to kill yourself, what s keeping you? I said...
Fear , he said. (page 323) Fear is a common anxiety people feel when they think about death, such
as Mr. Stalas.
Even in terrible times like these, the Lithuanians remain true to their culture. They still practice
Kucios, which is similar to Christmas. Tradition is very important to the Lithuanians. They use this
joyful event to escape from the cruel mistreatment. Even though they were starving, the
Lithuanians saved up food just for this event. I took out the bundle of food I had been saving...

Eating Disorders And Anorexia Nervosa
Eating disorders are a sickness that can come from psychological issues and it can disrupt the
everyday diet. A person with an eating disorder may have started out just eating smaller or larger
amounts of food, but at some point, the urge to eat less or more spiraled out of control. The
common eating disorders are anorexia nervosaand bulimia nervosa. Anorexia nervosa is when
someone see s themselves as an overweight person, so they watch what they eat since, they have
a fear of becoming overweight. The disorder takes over them and their focus is to avoid becoming
overweight. Bulimia nervosa is when someone eats large amounts of food at one time and not
being able to control how much they take in. Researchers are finding that eating disorders are
caused by a complex interaction of genetic, biological, behavioral, psychological, and social factors.
Anorexia nervosa can come from having been sexually abused or having family that are too
controlling over what they do. Most often diagnosed in females (up to 90%), Anorexia is
characterized by failure to maintain body weight of at least 85% of what is expected, fear of
losing control over your weight or of becoming fat. The person with the disorder often visualizes
themselves in a mirror and seeing an overweight person staring back at them which is their
reflection. Treatment for anorexia nervosa involve restoring their health, after that is done therapy
is highly recommended. The therapy can help the person maintain a

Johnson V. Texas Supreme Court Case Study
Gregory Lee Johnson was found guilty of violating Texas state law by burning the American flag at
the Republican national convention in Dallas, Texas. The state sentenced Johnson to one year in
prison and a fine of $2000. Johnson argued that the right to burn the American flag was protected
under the right to free speech in the First Amendment. Johnson appealed the conviction to the Court
of Appeals for the Fifth District in Dallas. The court upheld the conviction made by the state, and
the sentence given to Johnson remained. Johnson then appealed to the Texas Court of Criminal
Appeals and they reversed the decision of the district court and dismissed the charges. The state of
Texas then appealed to the Untied States Supreme Court, and the Supreme... Show more content on

These acts of conduct are done to express and idea and are therefore considered free speech. At
the time of Johnson s burning of the flag he was clearly expressing elements of communication.
At trial, Johnson stated that the reason for his flag burning: The flag was burned as Ronal
Regan was being re nominated as President. And a more powerful statement of symbolic speech,
whether you agree with it or not, couldn t have been made at that time. The Supreme Court
decided that this action was an expression of an idea and not an act of aggression to provoke
violence. Therefore since it was an act of speech, Johnson was protected by the First Amendment
and his conviction was in violation of the Constitution. The dissenting members of the court said
that the flag is a sacred part of America. Congress set forth laws on the specific design and
construction of the flag. This shows the reverence and respect that should be shown to the flag.
They also wrote that in Chaplinsky v. New Hampshire the court stated: it is well understood that
the right of free speech is not absolute at all times and under all

Global Ethics Issues Of Flo Essay
Global Ethics Issues Fairtrade is trying to Address There are variety of ethical challenges that
FLO is trying to address and since inception in 1988, have managed to solve some of them. They
also comprise the challenges that befell farmers while using the traditional approach. The first
ethical issue that FLO tries to address is transparency. Transparency shows a true reflection of
facts as they are and this ways prevents situations of mistrust. The concept of transparency is
linked to good corporate governance. In this situations, the companies and middle men that form
the agricultural chain supply should provide farmers with the right market prices for their
produce and supply the right input to ensure efficiency. For instance, if they are providing high
yielding seeds they should so and not take low yields and pass them as high yield. According to
Nayak (2014), the conventional system has continued to increase the number of middlemen and
this has increased the opportunities for cartels who reduce the prices for farmers and increase the
prices for consumers. FLO s goal is to provide accurate and comprehensive information in an
accessible manner. According to the website, all terms and conditions of Fairtrade transactions are
detailed in contracts which are signed by both the farmers and buyers (Fairtrade International
2016). Providing fair prices for farmers is another issue for FLO. This is because unlike most
vocations, farmers cannot set prices for their produce.

The Death Of A Bullet
Bang! A gunshot went off at night in the town of Hartsville, Montana. Diana Dixon died at 60
years of age. The police found her body when the neighbors called them. It was that same night her
son David was found with blood on his coat. Diana was murdered and the town was in shock.
The police took David to the station questioning him about the night his mother was murdered.
David was the son of Diana Dixon, who adopted him as well as his sister Jennifer. He worked at a
gas station just down the road from his house, the place his mother was murdered.
At the crime scene, the shell of a bullet was found as well as footprints belonging to someone
with size 13 shoes. The same size David wore. The blood belonging to Diana, type AB+, was found
on David. David would keep telling the police he didn t kill his mother. In fact, David and his
mother got along well. They spent time together and went to church every Sunday. Everybody
thought David was guilty, except for one man who was about to uncover the facts.
The night Diana was murdered, October 19, a man by the name of James Mccullough was eating
at his favorite restaurant when he saw a car speeding by with two men. It looked like someone
was just driving until James saw masks on the men. He also saw the car stop. One of the men
stepped out and threw a bag in a dumpster. James later investigated the dumpster and found a gun!
After reporting this to the police, they ran the gun for fingerprints. One set was found. They

Key Challenges Of The Pharma Industry
Industry Forces
Within the industry there are several challenges that pharma companies face. Of the challenges,
three significantly impact the industry and most certainly shapes how companies like Actavis
strategically position themselves within the changing global marketplace.
Innovation within the value chain is on the decline from decreased R D productivity
Persistent regulatory pressures both in the US and global markets
Loss of revenue due to generic competitors and new industry players such as biotech startups Drug
innovation is one of the key challenges facing the pharma industry. R D focused pharma companies
currently invest approximately $12.6 billion a year in new drug development. This figure
historically has doubled every five years and it typically takes a company 10 years to recoup the
amount invested on one patent protected approved drug, after which competition in the generic
sector erodes profit margins by about 80%. Pharma companies will spend between $350 million
and $1 billion on new drugs over a period of 15 years. This number is staggering considering that
95% of experimental medicines that make it to human trials fail to be safe or effective. Once a
drug makes it to market, pharma companies have a finite amount of time to capitalize on the sales,
distribution and marketing due to patent expiration. Additionally, something else pharma
companies, especially generic focused companies should worry about is due to lower rates of

Stagecoach Film Essay
In the film Stagecoach (John Ford, 1939) the Western characteristics of this film are that the
cowboys in the film are resourceful and restricted to no one. They are fully competent of roaming
the frontier on their own without having to rely on the securities of civilization. Yet they also have
a code of honor; although they are ruggedly independent, the cowboys respect the rules of society
and is unwilling to exploit others or to condone the careless disregard for human life exhibited by
outlaws or stereotypically Indians.
Though the passengers begin the film as simple types, their confinement in the small stagecoach
allows layers to be peeled back, revealing more characters. Social prejudice is displayed by more
proper society types like Lucy and the banker against the hard drinking doctor and the woman of a

The film Australia starts like a cheesy slapstick comedy, turns into a romantic daydream, then into
an outback adventure, then into a war movie, and then a genuine drama. This film is all over the
place and really is just too much. This film does however use the Westerncharacteristic and
landscape in that it represents stories of older times. It is a fictional historical costume drama
set before and during World War II. The reason I say that it is a fictional historical film is that it
has silly facts about the Japanese being near Australian soil during World War II when that was
actually not the case. There are the typical horse scenes and Lady Sarah Ashley is the damsel in
distress trying to herd her cattle with the help from her husband s drover. I feel like this film is
just a mockery of the Western genre and it should not be categorized as one. The film only uses
cattle ranching as an excuse to steal iconography from Hollywood Westerns, specifically a 1930s
John Ford cowboy motion picture

Essential Amino Acids
Proteins are made up of long chains of building blocks called amino acids. The sequence of the
amino acid is characteristic to a particular protein and this determines its function. There are twenty
or more amino acids some of which are essential some non essential.
Essential and non essential amino acids
Essential means that the body cannot produce the specific amino acid and has to take them in from
outside sources either through food or supplements. Non essential amino acids can be made by the
body but can also be obtained from the diet.
The essential amino acids are:
Leucine
Isoleucine
Lysine
Methionine (and its related compound cystine)
Phenylalanine
Threonine
Tryptophan
Valine
In infants histidine is also essential.
The non essential ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is an association between the level of tryptophan in the blood and arthritis. High levels of
tryptophan are also found in jaundice. It has also been used in depression, particularly if insomnia
is present. Oestrogen containing oral contraceptives interfere with the normal metabolism of
tryptophan (this may be because of their effect in vitamin B6 which is essential for the conversion of
tryptophan to serotonin.)
Histidine has been used in rheumatoid arthritis low levels of histidine has been found in the blood
of those with rheumatoid arthritis
Tyrosine like tryptophan and phenylalanine has been used in the treatment of depression. This
amino acid is essential for the synthesis of substances called catecholamines (these include
dopamine and noradrenaline) and some people who are depressed have low levels of these
compounds.
It is likely that more and more uses for amino acids will become evident as research progresses.
Proteins (which contain amino acids) are essential requirement in our diet. Amino acids, essential
and non essential, are needed for the body s structural component bones, muscle and connective
tissue and for functional aspects such as hormones and other chemicals. The range of therapeutic
used for which amino acids are used is still somewhat limited it is likely that the uses will expand
as we learn more about the role that amino acids play in maintaining

Archeologists, paleontologists, and other researchers have proven the existence of dinosaurs.

Teamwork And Fight For The Music Industry I Knew That It...
Perseverance: 30 Seconds to Mars
When I first began working in the music industry I knew that it was a cutthroat business. From
the growing competition all the way down to the tight deadlines, I knew that a career in this field
would be something that everyone has to fight for. I always admired the people in the industry
who fought for the rights of their creativity and stood up to the big name corporations that casted
a shadow over this industry. One particular group of artists that I ve admired for years now because
of this is the band 30 Seconds to Mars. It was through 30 Seconds to Mars that I learned to always
fight for my own creativity and fight for what I believe is truly right. After a successful worldwide
tour that lasted nearly two years, the band had returned home to Los Angeles to work out a new
contract with their label Virgin Records/EMI. However, when the band began to renegotiate new
terms; the company hit 30 Seconds to Mars with a $30,000,000.00 lawsuit (Cubbins, 2012).
According to Billboard reporter Ayala Ben Yehuda (2008), the record company decided to sue the
band for not delivering three of the five albums that were established under the band s previous
contract. Not only did the band face a huge lawsuit, but the company also cut off all their financial
resources until the band gave in to their demands. Instead of giving up and taking the short end of
the stick, 30 Seconds to Mars took it upon themselves to fund and build their own home studio for

The Barnhouse Effect
Let me begin by saying that I don t know any more about where Professor Arthur Barnhouse is
hiding than anyone else does. Save for one short, enigmatic message left in my mailbox on
Christmas Eve, I have not heard from him since his disappearance a year and a half ago. What s
more, readers of this article will be disappointed if they expect to learn how they can bring about
the so called Barnhouse Effect. If I were able and willing to give away that secret, I would
certainly be something more important than a psychology instructor. I have been urged to write
this report because I did research under the professor s direction and because I was the first to
learn of his astonishing discovery. But while I was his student I was never... Show more content on

He retired to his bunk and, as a mathematical exercise, calculated the odds against his feat on the
back of a laundry slip. His chances of doing it, he found, were one in almost ten million!
Bewildered, he borrowed a pair of dice from the man in the bunk next to his. He tried to roll
sevens again, but got only the usual assortment of numbers. He lay back for a moment, then
resumed his toying with the dice. He rolled ten more sevens in a row. He might have dismissed
the phenomenon with a low whistle. But the professor instead mulled over the circumstances
surrounding his two lucky streaks. There was one single factor in common: on both occasions,
the same thought train had flashed through his mind just before he threw the dice. It was that
thought train which aligned the professor s brain cells into what has since become the most
powerful weapon on earth. The soldier in the next bunk gave dynamopsychism its first token of
respect. In an understatement certain to bring wry smiles to the faces of the world s dejected
demagogues, the soldier said, You re hotter n a two dollar pistol, Pop. Professor Barnhouse was

minute; but the unmistakable fact that there were such forces was earth shaking. Professional
caution kept him from revealing his discovery immediately. He wanted more facts and a body of

Myers Briggs Type Indicator ( Mbti )
Myers Briggs Type Indicator
The Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is used to identify an individual s psychological
characteristics the personality. This assessment coincides with Carl G. Jung s theory that objectives
and drives of a person ascribes to the individuals course in life (Schustack, 2012).
Isabel Briggs Myers and Katharine Briggs developed the Myers Briggs Type Indicator by
concentrating on the principles of Jung s theory. According to the Myers Briggs Foundation, Jung
s theory is described as, random variation in the behavior that is actually quite orderly and
consistent, being due to basic differences in the ways people prefer to use their perception and
judgment (The Myers and Briggs Foundation, n.d).

On purchasing an audio book of George Orwell s classic, 1984 from iTunes, the author was
faced with a peculiar problem the audio book had a weird mb4 format, playable only on Apple
products and the conversion to mp3 was impossible because the file was well, encrypted. So, when
section 65A of the Indian Copyright(Amendment) Act, 2012 was notified , a legal analysis seemed
to be pertinent for this provision, introducing Digital Rights Management(DRM) in India, would
indeed have a palpable effect on almost all Indian consumers of digital media. Section 65A of the
Indian Copyright (Amendment) Act, 2012 provides legal protection to technological protection
measures (or TPM e.g. digital locks, encryption), such that the circumvention of such TPM is
prohibited, while tools or devices aiding circumvention may be permitted for the purpose of fair use
. Such use of TPM for the purpose of access control is classified as DRM and can take many
forms limiting number of installations and plays , limiting content to certain file types , limiting
content to be played on particular software etc. We first analyze this provision in comparison
with similar US and EU provisions and try to understand whether it is a favourable addition to
Indian IP law, especially in the context of its political economic background. We then try and
analyze the problems with the provision, especially through the lens of an economic analysis as
well as from a consumer point of view. Since, DRM is

Taking a Look at Image Registration
INTRODUCTION
If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it?
Albert Einstein (1879 1955)
An image is a 2 dimensional representation of a 3 dimensional scene. A Digital Image is a
graphical representation of an object. Digital Image Processing abbreviated as DIP is the
manipulation of digital image by a processor. Image Registration is one of the techniques used in
Digital Image Processing. Registration refers to merging and fusion of 2 or more data.
Image Registration is a fundamental step in all image analysis tasks in which we find mapping
for each and every pair of points in two or more different images. The images of a same scene are
taken from different viewpoints, from different sensors or sometimes images taken at different
times are also geometrically aligned in this process. Virtually all large systems which evaluate
images require the registration of images, or a closely related operation, as an intermediate step.
Registration can be performed either manually or automatically. In manual method human operators
manually select corresponding features in the images to be registered. In order to get reasonably
good registration results, an operator has to choose a considerably large number of feature pairs
across the whole images, which is not only tedious and wearing but also subject to inconsistent and
limited accuracy. Thus, there is a natural need to develop automated techniques that require little or
no operator supervision.

Perception is Reality in Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway
Although the entire novel tells of only one day, Virginia Woolf covers a lifetime in her enlightening
novel of the mystery of the human personality. The delicate Clarissa Dalloway, a disciplined
English lady, provides the perfect contrast to Septimus Warren Smith, an insane ex soldier living in
chaos. Even though the two never meet, these two correspond in that they strive to maintain
possession of themselves, of their souls. On this Wednesday in June of 1923, as Clarissaprepares for
her party that night, events during the day trigger memories and recollections of her past, and
Woolf offers these bits to the reader, who must then form the psychological and emotional make up
of Mrs. Dalloway in his/her own mind. The reader also learns of... Show more content on

However, the personality of Richard alters when Woolf presents his relationship with Clarissa.
Suddenly, he appears much less inhibited. True, Richard s insecure nature emerges here, too,
when he chooses mere flowers as a gift for Clarissa instead of a more personal token of his love.
Even though he planned to tell his wife, I love you, he offers the flowers without a word, afraid
to be natural and impetuous because of the hesitancy about daring to love one another that he and
Clarissa share. Still, Richard seems a different person in his relationship with his wife than with
Peter. Now, he appears more of the strong, silent type as opposed to just the silent type. This is
because the reader respects him more as the man Clarissa preferred over Peter Walsh. Even in
Clarissa s thoughts, Richard seems more secure because although he dearly loves her, both he and
Clarissa realize that she chose him over Peter Walsh, and thus he seems more confident. Virginia
Woolf illustrates the different aspects of Richard s nature by comparing and contrasting his
relationship with both Peter Walsh and his wife, Clarissa Dalloway.
The next character, Peter Walsh, is more complex than Richard because Woolf shows his
different sides by comparing and contrasting how he appears to three other characters: Sally,
Richard, and Clarissa. Sally Seton, Clarissa s friend, knows the fearing and apprehensive side of
Peter as he vies for the hand of Clarissa. Sally sees that

What was the Women’s Suffrage Movement, and How did it...
Suffrage: the right to vote in political elections. The men in America have always had the right
to vote. They have always had the right to do whatever they wanted. Women, on the other hand,
have not. They haven t always been allowed to vote. 1920 marked a significant landmark in
American history. Women in all parts of the country voted in a political election for the first
time. This may not sound like that big of a deal, but to the women of the 19th and 20th
centuries. In the 1800s, women were not allowed to have a say in what was perceived to be a
man s world. They were expected to be mothers and housewives. Nothing more, nothing less.
Women tried to get legislation to pass a reform, but they refused to listen. Because of this, they felt
they needed to gain the right to vote. Seneca Falls, NY in 1848 marked the start of the women s
suffragemovement. The movement, being led by many influential women, such as Susan B.

The World Bank Water Global Practice s Water And...
The World Bank Water Global Practice s Water and Sanitation Program (WSP) recently released a
working paper identifying findings that support new tactics for habit change in open defecation
behavior. These advances draw from the fields of psychology, cognitive science, and behavioral
science and were first outlined in the 2015 World Development Report (WDR) on Mind, Society,
and Behavior. WDR presents new insight into how people make decisions: thinking automatically,
thinking socially, and thinking with mental models, and highlights the potential of future policy
approaches that influence behavior while forgoing the assumption of individuals as rational
decision makers.
Open Defecation in India
Of the nearly one billion people across the globe who openly defecate, over half live in India.
Despite meeting the 2015 Millennium Development Goals (MDG) for water access, India achieved
only moderate progress in improvements to sanitation and reduction of open defecation. As of
2011, 49.8 percent of Indians still defecated in the open, and, although the number is decreasing,
progress remains slow in rural areas of the country and significant gaps remain between the rich and
poor.
In 2014, Prime Minister Modi prioritized an initiative to place a toilet in every household in the

Themes In The Chrysanthemums
In John Steinbeck s The Chrysanthemums , the setting plays a significant role in the mood and
themes of the short story. Set in the 1930s a period of time also known as the Great Depression
in Salinas Valley, California, the tale revolves around the utter loneliness experienced by the
protagonist, Elisa Allen, who is closed off from the rest of the world not only by the land in
which she lives, but also by the stifling and sexist social expectations for women in her time. The
story itself begins with a description of the high gray flannel fog that that surrounds the valley on
every side... like a lid , with the only light being the pale, cold sunshine on the other side of the
river. In the middle of this desolate terrain, Mrs. Allen is an anomaly a sharp, eager womanor whose
energy even the chrysanthemum stems [seem] too small and easy . The oppressive fog, which
makes the great valley [into] a closed pot , reminds the reader of how trapped Elisa is; thus, the
landscape combines with the imposed gendernorms and patriarchal views of the twentieth century
to create a melancholy, claustrophobic tone that echoes through the story. From the very beginning,
Steinbeck emphasizes the smothering essence of Elisa s life, not only due to the expectations and
limitations placed on her because of her gender, but also as a parallel to the restrictive nature of the
setting.
Henry Allen is a complex character whose role in The Chrysanthemums is easily overlooked in
comparison to that of his wife Elisa, or the tinker; in the scenes that the reader witnesses, there is
always an unspoken boundary between Henry and his wife, a lack of intimacy that is rare for
most marriages. There are many instances where Henry tries to provide a more substantial,
fulfilling opportunity for his wife; he offers to allow her to work out in the orchard and raise
some apples as large as her chrysanthemums, in which he takes an interest only to say that they
are big . Clearly, he realizes that Elisa is capable of much more work than she does, and he also
does understand her joy and gift with [growing] things on a superficial level; however, he is as
oppressive as the society that forces the limitations on his wife, because

Confederate Flag Is America s Swastika
Confederate Flag In The Hill, a top U.S. political magazine, in June 2015, Contributor H. A.
Goodman wrote, The Confederate flag is indeed America s swastika. In the same way the
Jewish community sees the swastika as a painful reminder of the Holocaust, the African
American community perceives the flag as a reminder of slavery and racial discrimination. The
Confederate flag, a relic of the devastating Civil War, has become one of the most controversial
and contentious icons in American history. The debate over the flying of the Confederate flag is
in regard to the Southern Civil War ideals of slavery and white racial superiority that historians
have agreed the flag represents. Supporters of the Confederate flag argue that as a symbol of
Southern pride, honor, and character, the flag is a reminder of the South s distinctive and rich
history. Opponents of the flag contend that rather than a symbol of southern bravery, the
Confederate flag symbolizes the racist, hateful ideas of the Confederacy. The Confederate flag, a
clear symbol of white superiority, prejudice, and slavery, should not be allowed to be perpetuated
by the government in a society where those ideals should be long gone. The discord over the
Confederate flag is rooted in wider debate over the causes of the Civil War and the ideals the flag
symbolizes. With the high likelihood of Abraham Lincoln winning the 1860 presidential election,
many of the Southern States became worried with the very real possibility

and the poor. Wealthy people never question their worth. They don t seem like they need to since
they were brought up with a golden spoon in their mouth, they feel as if they are better than

her worth. She is the one who rose up against the odds and made something of herself and wasn t

about having a relationship to success. Angela says that My definition of success has something

think that someone should compare themselves to another person. Just because one person is
more successful than another, it doesn t always mean they earned it like the one that worked their

because they know what it s like to be at the bottom, and the ones that come from wealth never

Reasons For Gun Control
Gun control is one of the most important issues debated worldwide, but most importantly in the
United States. According to the Second Amendment in the Constitution, the citizens have the right
to bear arms, yet this has become an issue that has remained debatable for decades in congress

the tragic massacre in Newton, Conn. killed twenty children and eight adults including himself. I
argue this event, because it gave me prove for the need for more gun control.

issue when they did. In a current review they have found that, instead of being utilized for self

developed at the current moment. However, through psychological and behavioral research we
can come to means with several theories as to why we do dream. Whether it is the unconscious
desires we get to experience at night or the molded slice of pizza we had for dinner before we
went to bed. Many of the scientist that are currently working on this dilemma have asked some
of the same questions. Like: what is dreaming, how does dreaming work, what causes bad
dreams or nightmares, and how can we conduct research to find out? As of right now no one
knows and there isn t an easy answer. However I can explain the stages of sleep and how they
affect us and when we dream. Due to the lack of technology today no answer will come easy.
However with enough persistence we may be able to establish a pattern and put meaning to them.
Researchers working with neurologists have already started taking dreams and converting them to
images. By using

Women s Equality And The Ethical Theory Of Deontology
Women and men have had certain roles in society that were understood amongst them to be
specified for their particular gender. Males were known to have the leading role as head of the
house hold and the bread winner while the woman s duty was to stay at home and take care of the
house and children. While many people years ago deemed this way of life and practice to be the
right and ethical thing to do, times have changed and so this kind of treatment towards a womans
equalitymust be questioned. Even though times have changed, this mindset of a woman s ability
to be as good as a man has not completely gone away. In today s society a woman contributes to
the economy and her family as equally as that of a man. Therefore, women should share equal rights
and opportunities as their gendercounterparts. Women s equality applies to the ethical theory of
Deontology. Deontology emphasizes on the question of would this act always be the right thing
to do, for everyone, in the same circumstances (Mosser, 2013). It is apparent in today s society
that women s rights and equality are being looked at closer by our governments and political
bodies, but there is not enough being done to make women as equal to men. Women want to be
seen as equals and the golden rule should apply to the equality of women because men would
want the same thing if they were in a woman s position. One of the areas that could use work is
the equality in the labor and workforce. The labor and workforce department

The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Natural Gas
Introduction: (1, 2)
Natural gas is colorless, shapeless, and odorless in its pure form. The gaseous fossil fuel consists
chiefly of methane but comprises significant amounts of ethane, propane, butane, and pentane
heavier hydrocarbons removed prior to use as a customer fuel, as well as nitrogen, helium and
hydrogen sulfide. Natural gas is flammable and gives off a prodigious deal of vigor when
scorched. Would involve energy regularly, to heat homes, cook food, and produce electricity, it is
this need for energy that has raised up natural gas to such a level of position.

Gas appliances also do not create corrupt electrical fields in your house.
Disadvantages of Natural Gas:
It is highly instable and can be dangerous, if touched carelessly.
It is colorless, unscented and tasteless that makes discovery of its leak very difficult.
Because it is a non renewable source of energy, its obtainability is finite. Detractors also point out
that its extraction leaves large hollows within the earth.
Even though it is cleansed than coal and oil, it still donates a large amount of carbon dioxide to
greenhouse gases.
By itself natural gas is typically methane, which is 21 times more dangerous for greenhouse
reheating than carbon dioxide so any leakage of the gas subsidizes strongly to greenhouse emissions.
If your house is not properly insulated it can be very affluent.
It can drip, potentially causing a burst.

Taking a Look at Lipoproteins
Lipoproteins are multicomponent assemblies of lipids and proteins that form distinct molecules
with an approximate stoichiometric value between the lipid and protein components within the
complex. Lipoproteins exist with many types each with a specific molecular mass, size, density,
physiological role, and chemical composition.(devlin,57) The lipids and their derivatives may be
covalently or non covalently bound to the proteins. Lipoproteins show biodiversity in their forms,
many enzymes, antigens, toxins, structural proteins, transporters, emulsification agents in lipid
uptake, and adhesins are lipoproteins with an important network that supports the transportation of
fats in blood stream and inside and outside of cell, as building blocks using cholesterolto offer a
great help in maintaining the water content of the cell by building membranes, and keeping the
internal structure organized. Examples include High density lipoproteins and low density
lipoproteins which help in fats relocation, and their associated diseases like Atherosclerosis.
Another group of diseases is associated with bacterial lipoproteins physiological virulence of many

The Impact Of Literacy On Student Education
Literacy is the ability to comprehend, create and communicate the meaning of the written word. It
is a fundamental part of reading. Typically it starts in early childhood and builds throughout the
student s academic school years. Literacy has an impact on student learning by affecting acquire
knowledge and analyzing it. Many times children will struggle with literacy and become frustrated
and detach from the readingexperiences which leads to a drop in academic achievement. Research
has found that if a student is not reading by third grade, they will continue to struggle
academically and probably not graduate high school (Spann, 2014). In 2014, many states had to
develop literacy policies focusing on evidenced based literacy instruction, which is aim to discuss
the deficits in the academic achievement (Spann, 2014). In 2014, South Carolina passed an Act
284 (Read to Succeed) to offered a framework students instruction and teacher preparation to help
with literacy skills necessary for academic and professional development (Spann, 2014). In
developing the Read to Succeed Act, the state chose to discuss some challenges that still cause
issues in literacy. The state found that by third grade that one out of three students were reading
below grade level. In certain demographic groups, the achievement gap was even wider (Spann,
2014). South Carolina set up the Read to Succeed Act that requires students who are not performing
at grade level be retained or attend a summer reading

The Effects of Violent Video Games on Society Essay
Introduction
On December 1, 1997, fourteen year old Michael Carneal entered school property in West
Paducah, Kentucky and began shooting a pistol at a group of students participating in a youth
prayer group, killing three students and injuring five others. On March 24, 1998, Mitchell
Johnson (13) and Andrew Golden (11) opened fire on students at a high school in Craighead
County, Arkansas as they exited the building for a fire alarm set off by the pair, killing five and
wounding ten others. On April 20, 1999, Eric Harris (18) and Dylan Klebold (17) entered

For the average adolescent male, this equates to witnessing approximately 5,400 acts of violence
per month (Smith, Lachlan, Tamborini, 2003). Although these numbers seem impressive, it still
only represents the violence depicted in video games and does not include the violence children
are exposed to in other forms of media. Studies suggest that by 12 years of age, the average child
has witnessed over 100,000 acts of violence just on television alone (Bartholow, Anderson, 2001).
Lt. Col. Dave Grossman, author of the book On Killing and Director of the Killology Group,
compares video game violence to the desensitizing process the United States military uses to
mentally prepare soldiers for combat. Grossman argues that steady and repeated exposure to violent
acts can cause the human mind to rationalize and accept the behavior; a person becomes
conditioned to the violence and associates it to normal conduct (Grossman, Christensen, 2004).
Grossman suggests that this operant conditioning is made more dangerous in the fact that it is
administered without discipline and character development, which are the safeguards used in the
military setting (Grossman, Christensen, 2004). From a psychology standpoint, there are three
basic explanations that theorists use when attempting to correlate violent video

Ensemble Vagabond s The Rite Of Spring
Ensemble Vagabond s debut performance of The Rite of Spring changed the history of Igor
Stravinsky s outrageous ballet. Arranged for Winds and Piano, Peter Facer has taken this
momentous piece to an entirely new level. With the Callaway Music Auditorium at maximum
capacity, Vagabond strode confidently onstage to roaring applause to give the performance of a
lifetime. Adam Mikulicz s bassoon solo to open the piece captured the audience while Emily
Clements added colour and ornamentation with both the flute and piccolo. Jodie Upton on clarinet
and Peter Facer on the oboe encompassed style, texture and timbre which broadened the sound of
this small ensemble. Conducting on the side, Facer kept the ensemble together in demanding
sections. Julia Brooke with her angelic horn sounded like an entire brass section packed into one

By swaying in the delicate phrases and jerking with the harsh ones, the performers became the
dancers in the ballet. They expressed different levels of emotion when required which reflected
their playing. Furthermore, the connection between these artists ensured an impeccable
performance. Seeing people look up and interact with each other reinforced their confidence and
helped the ensemble stay together. They moved and played together as one organism. Thus,
short notes were played identically by every person, creating sections of order in a piece of
pandemonium. As the piece ended, the performers smiled. Having put 7 years of work into this
score, they stood proudly and bowed. The audience erupted in applause. The Rite of Spring was
reborn as the performers were re invited on stage three times. Considering the already high
expectations of the performance and the applause they received, it is obvious this performance is

The Externalities Of Taxation On Capital Gain
The externalities of taxation on capital gain have been a controversial debate among scholars,
economists and policy makers along the timeline of ever changing tax reforms in the history of the
United States. This introduction covers all the possible externalities that change in marginal tax
rate can have on investors incentives and timing to sell, portfolio strategy, tax revenue collected by
the government and the social welfare changes.
The first thing to clarify is that there are both positive and negative externalities on the effect of
taxation on capital gain. Timing to realize the capital gain is paramount since in the United States
long term gains (typically 1 year or more) will be taxed at a significantly lower rate than ordinary ...

Since a higher tax rate leads to a lower amount of realization on capital gain, it would consequently
reduce the transaction fees or commission fees charged by the agencies, which eventually reduces
the market activity and causes a welfare loss.
The externality of a lower tax rate on the tax revenue could go either way. When we only consider
the static analysis, we have a negative externality that the tax revenue decreases obviously since
the same amount of realization is being taxed at a lower rate. When we consider other offsetting
factors, positive externalities come in to play important roles. The first positive externality is due
to the unlocking effect that increases the amount of realization on capital gain, which therefore
increases the tax revenue. The other positive externality is that lowering the tax rate on capital
gain would result in an increase in tax revenue due to peopleing pay taxes on higher value of their
assets when realized since the value of existing stocks increases.
The two articles I m comparing in this paper, The Effects of Taxation on the Selling of Corporate
Stock and The realization of Capital Gains by Feldstein, Slemrod, and Yitzhaki (1980) and
Measuring Permanent Responses to Capital Gains Tax Changes in Panel Data by Burman and
Randolph (1994), both primarily focused on the lock in externality, with Feldstein examining
externality on tax revenue as well.

advantageous for the residents of California because it takes several days to travel from north to
south California unless an individual is traveling via an airplane, which could be expensive. Gina
McCarthy, the administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, said The all electric

from this mass transit project, the authorities should consider the other challenges that this huge

Saints Scholars And Schizophrenics Summary
Saints, Scholars, and Schizophrenics is the ethnographic study of a small town of An Cloch an on
the Dingle Peninsula in Ireland. Nancy Scheper Hughes lived in this small village in order to gain
perspective to why there was such a large number of schizophrenic cases within Ireland, and also
why such a large percent were unmarried males. She wanted to dissect the issue of why these
individuals were so prone to schizophreniaand what cultural factors cause these high rates. Scheper
Hughes interviewed both individuals in the village but also patients in the nearby mental
institution. She relied heavily on thematic apperception tests and interviews for her conclusions.

The labeling theory explains how a community or culture defines deviant behavior, and the proper
diagnosis to treating the individual. This can be seen in An Cloch an, where psychiatric problems
are rarely made by the villager himself (Scheper Hughes 161). Although initial hospitalization is
rarely in acted by the individual, the patient eventually internalizes his behavior as deviant and will
identify himself as insane once institutionalized. However, the labeling theory can only be used
within the definitions of the culture, since different cultures will define abnormal behavior
differently. In the context of some Non Western cultures, symptoms of schizophrenia are praised,
and those who may hear voices or hallucinate are deemed as spiritual, and given the role of prophet
or shaman within the culture. Although schizophrenic symptoms are revered in some cultures,
within Ireland there is not only a stigma to the patient, but to the family as well (Scheper Hughes
283).Scheper Hughes explains that schizophrenia is a family condition; to the extent where there is
a pathology for the schizophrenic mothers . Defining the mothers of schizophrenic patients as
obsessive, sexually and emotionally immature, repressed, guilt ridden and ignoring the needs and
demands of their children (Scheper Hughes 257). This clinical diagnoses for mothers of
schizophrenics only deepens the social stigmas, and created more resentment among the family
members toward the patient. Not

  • 2. Short Story On Solar Eclipse If there s one thing I know right now, it s that I m not nervous. Then again, I never really get nervous. I m always thinking about way too much at once. Tests don t get me nervous, roller coasters don t, not even that at this very moment my younger brother and I are on our way to a kidnapper s house by free will. Sounds pretty crazy, right? Well, you should also know that I have superpowers. Everything comes back to that moment of time when day turned to night at 1:25 pm. You know, the solar eclipse. I, being an extreme lover of traveling and all things bizarre, begged my parents to take my brother and me down to the point of greatest eclipse. To my greatest delight, they agreed, my parents being the total education endorsers they were. In the coming weeks we ordered our glasses and read up on all the information we could find. When the day came, we went down to Kentucky and were met with masses and masses of people. Everyone was so anxious to see the eclipse they seemed frantic and hysterical. I can clearly remember the exact expression on the man s face next to us when he realized that he had bought the wrong glasses for him and his family. Maybe we should have paid more attention to him and his possibly sneaky hands, but we didn t. The time came for us to slip on our glasses and in majestic beauty, the moon gracefully floated over the image of bright white light. I stare for only a few minutes, but then I felt a ray of the sun burn my eyes and before I could close ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. This Is America Analysis This is America On May 6, Donald Glover also known as, Childish Gambino, released a music video that is called This is America that shocked social media. Childish Gambino s video had 21 million views and counting in just a matter of 2 days. The music video takes place in an abandoned warehouse. Childish Gambino gives examples on how America deals with traumatic events happening everyday in society. Gun control, police brutality, racism, and murders are the major events being expressed throughout this video. He does not explain the significance of this video, he states there is no need for an explanation it s just for the people . He does not feel like it should be given any context because people can take it and walk... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the beginning of the video it starts off by an african american man walking up to a guitar and starting to play it, it goes to then childish gambino dancing in a weird way. This is portraying Jim crow. Seconds later he shoots the guy in the back of the head. You see in the video that the gun is handled with care, but the body is dragged away without care. This shows how americans value guns more than human lives. During the whole video you see him dancing with a group of kids, they follow his every move. The dancing distracts you from all of the chaos in the background. This could be a symbolism by the youth not being involved with the news and just going on with their lives like its nothing major. Half way through the video there is a church choir happily singing and then Childish Gambino comes in starts dancing and smiling then seconds later he shoots them all up with an AK47. This represents the Charleston church massive shooting. Toward the end of the video you see Childish Gambino running for his life. He s running from a mob of all white people, why? Because he will always be running since he s seen as a criminal . Childish Gambino This is America music video is a real eye opener for some people because of the strong impacts and symbolisms it has in it. This video won t stop any of the problems in America but maybe it could be the start of something ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay about The Terri Schiavo Case and Euthanasia The poem To the Mercy Killers by Dudley Randall refers to the ongoing debate of the right to live. If ever mercy move you murder me, I pray you, kindly killers, let me live (Randall 623). Here he is most likely referring to doctors as kindly killers who feel that letting him die would be a mercy to him. Randall clearly believes that life is a treasured gift, and should not be purposely extinguished for any reason. However, terminally ill patients should have the right to decide whether they want to die or not. In 2003, much of the American public first became aware of a brain damaged woman named Terri Schiavo. On February 25, 1990, Terri Schiavo collapsed in her home from unknown causes. Terri s husband, Michael Schiavo, told... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bush got involved. Michael Schiavo was appalled by these attempts: Right now I am very outraged. This is a sad day for Terri and this is a sad day for everybody in America because the government is going to trample on all of your personal and private matters. This is an outrage, they have no business in this matter. Terri made her wishes, it has been adjudicated in a state court over the last seven years. Eighteen judges have heard this. Appeals have been heard. The Supreme Court justices have heard this, and now the House of Representatives and the Senate are saying that they are wrong. They are thumbing their nose up at the constitution (Democracy Now). However, the hastily passed laws both the state of Florida and the federal government are eventually deemed unconstitutional by the courts. The feeding tube is removed on March 18, 2005 despite frantic appeals of the Schindlers and organizations that support them. On March 31, 2005, at 9:05am, Terri Schiavo died a calm, peaceful, and gentle death according to Michael s attorney (China Daily). The eventual autopsy found that, The damage was irreversible, and that No amount of therapy or treatment could have regenerated the massive loss of neurons (University of Miami). The large amount of controversy the Schiavo case caused is still remembered by many today. When the case was in the news, everyone had their own opinion. Some believed that just ... • 5. The Economics of the French and American Revolution Essay The American and French Revolutions were profoundly motivated by economics. Prior to the Revolution, British colonies in America were thriving. Colonists paid fairly few taxes and were permitted to participate in domestic economic activity, granted they adhere to the Navigation Act, an act requiring, that all trade within the empire be conducted on ships which were constructed, owned and largely manned by British citizens. Certain enumerated goods whether exported or imported by the colonies had to be shipped through England regardless of the final port of destination. Instead one vote was given to each of the three estates, the clergy (first), aristocrats (second), and everyone else excluded from the first two, who were most commonly peasants and the working class (third) (Roberts et al. 646). Unsurprisingly, the Third Estate was outvoted and citizens within became furious. They, ...insisted that those who worked [for low wages] and pay taxes were the nation... (Roberts et al. 646) Shortly afterward, the National Assembly was born and was determined to take France s future into its own (Belloc, 93). The Revolutions became very different throughout the courses of each. Britain, no doubt was in a better position to fund the war. Firstly, Britain was an established country with a tax system that had proven to produce revenue. Secondly, it could afford to generate more debt to fund the war. America however, was only beginning to set up a government of its own. Although they had a Congress in place, the Articles of Confederation didn t allow it to tax colonists and without income, it was difficult for Congress to borrow money or replace what they were spending on the war. Despite this, Congress did not receive any voluntary payments from the states. In fact, each state began producing their own currencies to make up for the lack of money; so many different forms of currency were competing with the true currency, the continental dollar. This quote is expressed many times in the book, Between Shades of Gray, by Ruta Sepetys. Lina, the protagonist, is separated from her father. She, her mother, and younger brother, Jonas, go through traumatizing times most people would crumble under. Yet, she still manages to survive because she doesn t want to lose her family, traditions, relationships and her dignity. This book shows, people who value their dignity will survive longer than those who don t. Many characters of the book don t give up as easily as others. This sets them apart from the rest. Those people value their family, and would do anything to keep them alive. Ms. Arvydas is an example. She became a prostitute to protect Andrius from the Soviets. She chose his safety over her own. Even in terrible times like these, the Lithuanians remain true to their culture. They still practice Kucios, which is similar to Christmas. Tradition is very important to the Lithuanians. The state sentenced Johnson to one year in prison and a fine of $2000. Johnson argued that the right to burn the American flag was protected under the right to free speech in the First Amendment. Johnson appealed the conviction to the Court of Appeals for the Fifth District in Dallas. The court upheld the conviction made by the state, and the sentence given to Johnson remained. And a more powerful statement of symbolic speech, whether you agree with it or not, couldn t have been made at that time. The Supreme Court decided that this action was an expression of an idea and not an act of aggression to provoke violence. Therefore since it was an act of speech, Johnson was protected by the First Amendment and his conviction was in violation of the Constitution. The dissenting members of the court said that the flag is a sacred part of America. Congress set forth laws on the specific design and construction of the flag. • 11. Global Ethics Issues Of Flo Essay Global Ethics Issues Fairtrade is trying to Address There are variety of ethical challenges that FLO is trying to address and since inception in 1988, have managed to solve some of them. They also comprise the challenges that befell farmers while using the traditional approach. The first ethical issue that FLO tries to address is transparency. Transparency shows a true reflection of facts as they are and this ways prevents situations of mistrust. The concept of transparency is linked to good corporate governance. In this situations, the companies and middle men that form the agricultural chain supply should provide farmers with the right market prices for their produce and supply the right input to ensure efficiency. For instance, if they are providing high yielding seeds they should so and not take low yields and pass them as high yield. According to Nayak (2014), the conventional system has continued to increase the number of middlemen and this has increased the opportunities for cartels who reduce the prices for farmers and increase the prices for consumers. FLO s goal is to provide accurate and comprehensive information in an accessible manner. According to the website, all terms and conditions of Fairtrade transactions are detailed in contracts which are signed by both the farmers and buyers (Fairtrade International 2016). Providing fair prices for farmers is another issue for FLO. This is because unlike most vocations, farmers cannot set prices for their produce. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At the crime scene, the shell of a bullet was found as well as footprints belonging to someone with size 13 shoes. The same size David wore. The blood belonging to Diana, type AB+, was found on David. David would keep telling the police he didn t kill his mother. In fact, David and his mother got along well. They spent time together and went to church every Sunday. Everybody thought David was guilty, except for one man who was about to uncover the facts. The night Diana was murdered, October 19, a man by the name of James Mccullough was eating at his favorite restaurant when he saw a car speeding by with two men. It looked like someone was just driving until James saw masks on the men. He also saw the car stop. One of the men stepped out and threw a bag in a dumpster. • 13. Key Challenges Of The Pharma Industry Industry Forces Within the industry there are several challenges that pharma companies face. Of the challenges, three significantly impact the industry and most certainly shapes how companies like Actavis strategically position themselves within the changing global marketplace. Innovation within the value chain is on the decline from decreased R D productivity Persistent regulatory pressures both in the US and global markets Loss of revenue due to generic competitors and new industry players such as biotech startups Drug innovation is one of the key challenges facing the pharma industry. R D focused pharma companies currently invest approximately $12.6 billion a year in new drug development. This figure historically has doubled every five years and it typically takes a company 10 years to recoup the amount invested on one patent protected approved drug, after which competition in the generic sector erodes profit margins by about 80%. Pharma companies will spend between $350 million and $1 billion on new drugs over a period of 15 years. This number is staggering considering that 95% of experimental medicines that make it to human trials fail to be safe or effective. Once a drug makes it to market, pharma companies have a finite amount of time to capitalize on the sales, distribution and marketing due to patent expiration. Additionally, something else pharma companies, especially generic focused companies should worry about is due to lower rates of successful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Stagecoach Film Essay In the film Stagecoach (John Ford, 1939) the Western characteristics of this film are that the cowboys in the film are resourceful and restricted to no one. They are fully competent of roaming the frontier on their own without having to rely on the securities of civilization. Yet they also have a code of honor; although they are ruggedly independent, the cowboys respect the rules of society and is unwilling to exploit others or to condone the careless disregard for human life exhibited by outlaws or stereotypically Indians. Though the passengers begin the film as simple types, their confinement in the small stagecoach allows layers to be peeled back, revealing more characters. The film Australia starts like a cheesy slapstick comedy, turns into a romantic daydream, then into an outback adventure, then into a war movie, and then a genuine drama. This film is all over the place and really is just too much. This film does however use the Westerncharacteristic and landscape in that it represents stories of older times. It is a fictional historical costume drama set before and during World War II. The reason I say that it is a fictional historical film is that it has silly facts about the Japanese being near Australian soil during World War II when that was actually not the case. There are the typical horse scenes and Lady Sarah Ashley is the damsel in distress trying to herd her cattle with the help from her husband s drover. I feel like this film is just a mockery of the Western genre and it should not be categorized as one. Histidine has been used in rheumatoid arthritis low levels of histidine has been found in the blood of those with rheumatoid arthritis Tyrosine like tryptophan and phenylalanine has been used in the treatment of depression. This amino acid is essential for the synthesis of substances called catecholamines (these include dopamine and noradrenaline) and some people who are depressed have low levels of these compounds. So, when section 65A of the Indian Copyright(Amendment) Act, 2012 was notified , a legal analysis seemed to be pertinent for this provision, introducing Digital Rights Management(DRM) in India, would indeed have a palpable effect on almost all Indian consumers of digital media. Section 65A of the Indian Copyright (Amendment) Act, 2012 provides legal protection to technological protection measures (or TPM e.g. digital locks, encryption), such that the circumvention of such TPM is prohibited, while tools or devices aiding circumvention may be permitted for the purpose of fair use . Such use of TPM for the purpose of access control is classified as DRM and can take many forms limiting number of installations and plays , limiting content to certain file types , limiting content to be played on particular software etc. We first analyze this provision in comparison with similar US and EU provisions and try to understand whether it is a favourable addition to Indian IP law, especially in the context of its political economic background. Albert Einstein (1879 1955) An image is a 2 dimensional representation of a 3 dimensional scene. A Digital Image is a graphical representation of an object. Digital Image Processing abbreviated as DIP is the manipulation of digital image by a processor. Image Registration is one of the techniques used in Digital Image Processing. Registration refers to merging and fusion of 2 or more data. Image Registration is a fundamental step in all image analysis tasks in which we find mapping for each and every pair of points in two or more different images. The images of a same scene are taken from different viewpoints, from different sensors or sometimes images taken at different times are also geometrically aligned in this process. Virtually all large systems which evaluate images require the registration of images, or a closely related operation, as an intermediate step. Registration can be performed either manually or automatically. In manual method human operators manually select corresponding features in the images to be registered. In order to get reasonably good registration results, an operator has to choose a considerably large number of feature pairs across the whole images, which is not only tedious and wearing but also subject to inconsistent and limited accuracy. Thus, there is a natural need to develop automated techniques that require little or no operator supervision. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even in Clarissa s thoughts, Richard seems more secure because although he dearly loves her, both he and Clarissa realize that she chose him over Peter Walsh, and thus he seems more confident. The World Bank Water Global Practice s Water and Sanitation Program (WSP) recently released a working paper identifying findings that support new tactics for habit change in open defecation behavior. These advances draw from the fields of psychology, cognitive science, and behavioral science and were first outlined in the 2015 World Development Report (WDR) on Mind, Society, and Behavior. WDR presents new insight into how people make decisions: thinking automatically, thinking socially, and thinking with mental models, and highlights the potential of future policy approaches that influence behavior while forgoing the assumption of individuals as rational decision makers. Open Defecation in India Of the nearly one billion people across the globe who openly defecate, over half live in India. Despite meeting the 2015 Millennium Development Goals (MDG) for water access, India achieved only moderate progress in improvements to sanitation and reduction of open defecation. As of 2011, 49.8 percent of Indians still defecated in the open, and, although the number is decreasing, progress remains slow in rural areas of the country and significant gaps remain between the rich and poor. • 37. Themes In The Chrysanthemums In John Steinbeck s The Chrysanthemums , the setting plays a significant role in the mood and themes of the short story. Set in the 1930s a period of time also known as the Great Depression in Salinas Valley, California, the tale revolves around the utter loneliness experienced by the protagonist, Elisa Allen, who is closed off from the rest of the world not only by the land in which she lives, but also by the stifling and sexist social expectations for women in her time. The story itself begins with a description of the high gray flannel fog that that surrounds the valley on every side... like a lid , with the only light being the pale, cold sunshine on the other side of the river. In the middle of this desolate terrain, Mrs. Allen is an anomaly a sharp, eager womanor whose energy even the chrysanthemum stems [seem] too small and easy . The oppressive fog, which makes the great valley [into] a closed pot , reminds the reader of how trapped Elisa is; thus, the landscape combines with the imposed gendernorms and patriarchal views of the twentieth century to create a melancholy, claustrophobic tone that echoes through the story. From the very beginning, Steinbeck emphasizes the smothering essence of Elisa s life, not only due to the expectations and limitations placed on her because of her gender, but also as a parallel to the restrictive nature of the setting. Henry Allen is a complex character whose role in The Chrysanthemums is easily overlooked in comparison to that of his wife Elisa, or the tinker; in the scenes that the reader witnesses, there is always an unspoken boundary between Henry and his wife, a lack of intimacy that is rare for most marriages. There are many instances where Henry tries to provide a more substantial, fulfilling opportunity for his wife; he offers to allow her to work out in the orchard and raise some apples as large as her chrysanthemums, in which he takes an interest only to say that they are big . Clearly, he realizes that Elisa is capable of much more work than she does, and he also does understand her joy and gift with [growing] things on a superficial level; however, he is as oppressive as the society that forces the limitations on his wife, because ... • 39. Confederate Flag Is America s Swastika Confederate Flag In The Hill, a top U.S. political magazine, in June 2015, Contributor H. A. Goodman wrote, The Confederate flag is indeed America s swastika. In the same way the Jewish community sees the swastika as a painful reminder of the Holocaust, the African American community perceives the flag as a reminder of slavery and racial discrimination. The Confederate flag, a relic of the devastating Civil War, has become one of the most controversial and contentious icons in American history. The debate over the flying of the Confederate flag is in regard to the Southern Civil War ideals of slavery and white racial superiority that historians have agreed the flag represents. Supporters of the Confederate flag argue that as a symbol of Southern pride, honor, and character, the flag is a reminder of the South s distinctive and rich history. Opponents of the flag contend that rather than a symbol of southern bravery, the Confederate flag symbolizes the racist, hateful ideas of the Confederacy. The Confederate flag, a clear symbol of white superiority, prejudice, and slavery, should not be allowed to be perpetuated by the government in a society where those ideals should be long gone. The discord over the Confederate flag is rooted in wider debate over the causes of the Civil War and the ideals the flag symbolizes. While many people years ago deemed this way of life and practice to be the right and ethical thing to do, times have changed and so this kind of treatment towards a womans equalitymust be questioned. Even though times have changed, this mindset of a woman s ability to be as good as a man has not completely gone away. In today s society a woman contributes to the economy and her family as equally as that of a man. Therefore, women should share equal rights and opportunities as their gendercounterparts. Women s equality applies to the ethical theory of Deontology. It is apparent in today s society that women s rights and equality are being looked at closer by our governments and political bodies, but there is not enough being done to make women as equal to men. Grossman argues that steady and repeated exposure to violent acts can cause the human mind to rationalize and accept the behavior; a person becomes conditioned to the violence and associates it to normal conduct (Grossman, Christensen, 2004). Grossman suggests that this operant conditioning is made more dangerous in the fact that it is administered without discipline and character development, which are the safeguards used in the military setting (Grossman, Christensen, 2004). When we only consider the static analysis, we have a negative externality that the tax revenue decreases obviously since the same amount of realization is being taxed at a lower rate. When we consider other offsetting factors, positive externalities come in to play important roles.
