The Electric Car
In 10 years, it is believed that the electric car will slowly start to push the gasoline/petrol vehicle to the
curb, and it will do it with style and swagger. In this ever growing age of technology and
advancement, more and more people are either looking very seriously into or have already transitioned
from ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicles. The transition is seemingly a slow one for the
majority of the public and although it is understandable, it is also inevitable. Combustion engine
vehicles have been around for over a century and have dominated the car industry greatly. The
reliance on ICE engines can be visible in any direction someone turns, walking through the streets of
any city. The mindset that ICE rules, and is the only efficient and viable method of transportation is
slowly being replaced by the ever decreasing well of fossil fuels and oil on earth. Oil has been the
spine of the Earth and the gasoline car, it s pumping heart.
There are many reasons that more and more people are turning to electric. Some of the advantages are:
Higher efficiency by as much as 400 to 600 percent over an internal combustion engine
No polluting byproducts because this car gets its power from batteries, the wind or the sun
Three times as efficient as gas engines
Is extremely safe
Gets better mileage than any other car on the road
Quiet to drive
Convenient
Durable
Although everyone has his or her personal motivations to owning and driving electric, some

Hampton Roads Research Paper
Although short and non eventful, the battle of Hampton roads, during the Civil war, showed the world
the future of warship construction, forever changing Naval Warfare. After visiting the past through the
museums exhibits, I believe in order to understand this battle in its entirety, one must not only look at
the battle itself but the events leading up to it.
The union had a plan to block the confederacy by placing union ships around it. This particular battle
was a small, taking place in Hampton roads, but the size of the battle has no effect on its significance.
The battle is fought between the CSS (confederate states ship) Virginia, formerly called the
Merrimack, and USS (union states ship) monitor. Each of these ships were carefully designed war
weapons, each made of iron. Beforehand war ships were made of wooden material. while ironclads ...

This weapon was quite important throughout the battle. While the turret did in fact turn well, it was
difficult for it to stop turning once in motion. Eventually, the crew let it revolve and started firing on
the fly when the target was in sight. Both the Monitor and the Virginia served as prototypes for future
war ship what would be used for their innovative designs. However, the monitors design continued as
the principal coastal and riverine warship. The clash of armor takes place March 9th, 1862, however it
is essential that I go back a few days to the critical events leading up to the battle. March 6th,1862 was
went the las gunpowder shipment arrived for the CSS Virginia, nonetheless, the Virginia still did not
have a full crew. The crew cam to under Captain Thomas Kevill and thirty one members of the United
Artillery (company E, 41st Virginia infantry) . These men were volunteers from Norfolk. That day flag
officer Franklin Buchanan had intended on moving the CSS Virginia down the Elizabeth River but an

Relationship Between Emma Woodhouse And George Knightley
This essay will analyse the relationship between Emma Woodhouse and George Knightley in the text
Emma from a feminist perspective. The relationship in general contains two different personalities.
Emma is one who believes that she can create the perfect couple , which gives her the belief of
knowing everything . George Knightley is more of a moral compass for Emma, and he usually
displays his approval and disapproval of her actions. Before the relationship is examined; it would be
insightful to reflect on the social context that the text is set in like the system of patriarchy, and the
expectation of women from certain wealthy families.
The Elizabethan era was marked by the rule of Queen Elizabeth I (1558 1603). This era in English
history has often been regarded as a golden age of the time. This was due to ideas of national pride,
many reforms in areas of society, and the use of theatre alongside William Shakespeare (1564 1616).
This society was however set within the confines of patriarchy.
Emma is also set within the confines of a patriarchal Elizabethan era society. Even though the text was
written after the time of Queen Elizabeth I and Shakespeare because Jane Austen lived about 100
years after the two (1775 1817). The idea of patriarchy was one notion that continued. Patriarchy is
defined as, A system of society or government in which the father or eldest male is head of the family
and descent is traced through the male line . The father has control over the

My Lai Massacre Analysis
METONYMY I used to date a girl whose biggest fear was human fragility. The details of it, I mean,
terrified her. The idea that bones can break, and fingers can be cut off, and noses can bleed. Tendons,
especially. She found tendons disgusting. Hated the idea of them, because she couldn t imagine a
tendon without imagining it snapping like a sinewy rubber band. I don t know why she never
expressed the same aversion to ligaments, but she probably had it, if I d brought it up. I never could
bring it up, though, because if I made any mention of violence of any kind, she looked like she was
going to throw up, and sometimes she did. So, in addition to not being able to discuss certain aspects
of the news (she never knew and never wanted to know the details of the night Trayvon Martin died,
for example,) we also couldn t watch certain movies. After a year or so of living with her, I d taken to
checking movie review sites made for Christian parents to decide which movies their teenagers can
and cannot watch before suggesting anything. One night, we watched a documentary about the My Lai
Massacre, and she cried for two hours. She was upset about the ... Show more content on

thought at the time I told her at the time, is actually what I can report with accuracy, because I don t

that she could have something more to say. In retrospect, and as with many opinions this is one that
has become less generous in retrospect, for all I know precisely because it s in retrospect anyway, in

Essay about Cubism
Pablo Picasso
Pablo Picassso was probably the most famous artist of the twentieth century. During his artistic career
he created a large body of work that consisted of sculptures, prints and ceramics, while experimenting
with several different materials. Today Picasso is known as one the forefathers of the artistic
movement known as Cubism.
Pablo Picasso was born on October twenty fifth 1881, in Malaga, Spain, to Jose Ruiz and Maria
Picasso. Rather than adopt the common name of his father, Picasso took the more unique last name of
his mother as his own. quot;An artistic prodigy, Picasso at the age of fourteen, completed the one
month qualifying examination of the Academy of Fine Arts in Barcelona in one day. quot; as stated by
( ). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This change in Picasso s work became known as his quot; Rose Period quot; as stated by ( ).
Picasso went on to meet George Braque, whom is also regarded as one of the forefathers of the Cubist
movement. During this period in his artistic career, Picasso created the portrait of Manuel Pallares.
To create this work of art Picasso chose to use oil as his medium of choice. What is so fascinating
about the painting is his application of the medium. Picasso uses the brush and or palette knife to
create a cross hatch effect throughout the painting. Picasso chose to use neutral tones to describe the
mood of the painting. The figure of Manuel Pallares is shown in a three quarters view within the
composition. The deliberate positioning of the figure leads the viewer to believe that Manuel was not
someone of importance. His wardrobe also lets the viewer know that he is an average person.
Picasso s treatment of the details is very representational of the Cubist style. Sharp lines and a vast
array of contrasting shapes and colors emphasize the creases of the suit jacket. This same attention to
detail is present in the mustache and the background as well.
On the other hand, Picasso s treatment of the Manuel s face is quite different. Picasso uses softer
shapes to fine the attitude of Manuel. The blandness of the face leads one to assume that Manuel was a
man of peace in a world of chaos. The background also suggests that he is a man that is completely
involved with his

Truth Or Falsehood In Ambush By Tim O Brien
Truth or falsehood. That is a common question to everyone, especially parents. In the situation of
Ambush by Tim O Brien, a returning veteran from the Vietnam War is asked if he has ever killed
anyone before by his nine year old daughter. It was a difficult moment, but I did what seemed right,
which was to say, Of course not, ... Mr. O Brien did what he believed was the right thing. He told a lie
to his daughter to spare her the troubles of war and knowing that her father is a killer. That is not the
only reason he spared his daughter from the truth though. He also lied to save himself from the
memory of the incident, which are nightmarish memories to him. Sometimes a parent must lie to save
their children from the horrible truth. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the strong points of that argument is that everyone deserves to know the truth, even children. I
say that the truth is important yes, but it can also cause more harm than good. For example, if your
grandmother bakes a chocolate pie and tells you to eat it, but it is the worst pie you have ever eaten in
your life, it would be simpler to tell her that is was good rather than tell her the truth and hurt her
feelings. No good can come from hurting someone s feelings. The truth will often cause that. Another
point that some people use for this argument is that if his daughter found out the truth, she would view
her father as a liar. If that was the case, every child of this planet would view their parents that way.
Children grow up learning about the Easter Bunny, Santa Clause, the Tooth Fairy, and several other
magical beings that do not exist. The sole purpose of those tall tales is the give the children
entertainment and something to look forward to. Parents lie to their children every year, every time
their child loses a tooth. So what is the difference about lying to keep them safe from the

Swedish Welfare System
Swedish Welfare System Sweden has created a social welfare state that has eliminated a great deal of
poverty by providing extensive government aid to all citizens. It is referred to as the Swedish Model ,
and is based off of the belief that all citizens are entitled to help from the government. Although tax
rates may be high the benefits by far outweigh the downfalls. The Swedish Model is more efficient
and effective at equalizing citizen welfare than the United States system; in the United States the rich
get richer, and those in poverty use welfare to barely scrape by. In Sweden all citizens are taxed fairly
and have use of social welfare programs that have a much greater capacity to help citizens. These
welfares are limited not only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

previous census in 2007 according to the United States Census Bureau. Based on this data the higher
taxation and usage of extensive social welfare programs truly does increase welfare among the
population. Whether it be per capita GDP, poverty rates, healthcare, or disability Sweden comes out
ahead due to the structure of their government and their welfare system. They are able to more
adequately provide for their population and make sure there is a more equal playing field. Although
the Swedish Model works well for a smaller country, there is no way to know for sure how such a
system would hold up to the scale of the United States. Based on the data collected it could really do

Farquhar s An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge
An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge had a much unanticipated conclusion, in my opinion. In fact,
after finishing it, I had to revisit everything I thought I knew about what was going on in the story. For
one, I had originally thought that the story was pretty basic plot a tale of a southern well to do planter
s escape from a dreadful fate, which was death by hanging. However the case, it turned out that what I
thought was happening in the story never actually happened. Peyton Farquhar s completely intricate
and valiant escape, which included untying his bonds, evading bullets, swimming to freedom, and
hiking back to the safety of his own home, never occurred. When the military sent him off the bridge
to hang, the rope never broke. Instead the noose held fast, and Farquhar died right there no escape, no
valor. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Farquhar got out of actually fighting in the civil war, because of his social ranking and his wealth. His
embarrassment for doing so along with his insubstantial perception of reality is what tricked him into
running straight into enemy territory, which met him with a terrible fate. After going back and reading
through the story again, I noticed several clues Bierce peppered throughout the great escape to
foreshadow Farquhar s death. For example, Bierce kept mentioning how Farquhar was feeling pain in
his neck and how his mind was getting more and more lost, saying that he had fallen asleep while
walking. Another abnormality I noticed was how the soldiers kept firing shots at Farquhar while he
was escaping, and they never managed to actually shoot him. The shots fired from the weapons are
actually ceremonial after death, and they were fired after Farquhar was

Human Impacts on the Environment
Human Impacts on the Environment: Ocean Acidification
Ecological human effects on the planet are now about 40% greater than the planet can support in a
sustainable fashion (Grossman, 2010). One of the many areas with significant damage is the marine
biosphere. Ocean acidification is a great threat to marine and subsequently human life.
The pH level in the ocean has been a relatively constant 8.15 to 8.25 and organisms have evolved
under these circumstances for over 50 million years. However since the end of the Industrial
Revolution, worldwide burning of fossil fuels and human innovations such as concrete manufacture
have resulted in the release of more than 440 billion metric tonnes of carbon dioxide into the
atmosphere. Excess ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anthropogenic emissions over the past 200 years have caused ocean acidity levels to increase by 40 %
(Ocean Studies Board, 2010). Without major intervention and significant reduction of the global
carbon footprint this will result in severe and irreversible damage to ecosystems and organisms ocean
wide.
Phytoplankton is found in the surface area of the water and is the primary element of varied and
elaborate food webs in the pelagic, (an area of open water away from shore and bed) and other marine
systems. Phytoplankton is essential for the cycling of nutrients in these systems, and acidification has
effects upon photosynthesis, nitrogen fixation and calcification. These processes are key for
zooplankton and phytoplankton composition.
Humans are provided with a variety of services from marine ecosystems, such as protection from
erosion and coastal flooding, seafood, nutrient cycling and natural products. As acidification
progresses, these precious assets are likely to disappear. Should we choose to, there is both the
technology and the economic potential to ensure a discernible decrease in carbon dioxide emissions.
This is a far preferable and effective alternative to suggestions of geoengineering, with many proposed
strategies failing to address the root cause of acidification (Royal Society, 2005). The longer it is taken
to find a combative strategy, the greater the legacy of environmental

The Battle Against General Magnus And His Army
It was 1930 at the railhead on Fort Bragg; they had completed loading the equipment on the big black
iron monster of a train, and covering them with heavy black tarps, which they secured to the flatbeds.
Colonel Lambert was no longer running the combat train; he remained back in Washington D.C. with
his command, the 3rd Infantry Regiment. With the Army of the Potomac less than thirty miles out of
the capital it was time for him to return to his duties. He placed Major Reese Sales in charge of this
particular mission; it was of the highest importance and no doubt would make a huge difference in the
fight against General Magnus and his Army. There were only a few people aware of the cargo that was
being transported north, the Major of course, Colonel Lambert, Brigadier General Clayton who s idea
it was, and the post commander of Fort Bragg. Major Sales boarded the train with the additional
Soldiers he was bringing with him from Bragg; they were there to operate the equipment they were
transporting. It would take a little over twelve hours to make it to the capital, another couple of hours
to unload everything, test it, and then get it into action. Both General Clayton and Colonel Lambert
were foaming at the mouth to get them there and into the fight. The train moved out at 1945 under the
cover of darkness, it was time to get some shut eye Major Sales said to himself, come morning they
were going to be very busy. Brigadier General Clayton was back in Washington D.C.

Jules Verne s 20, 000 Leagues Under The Sea
Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, written by the best selling author Jules Verne, is an
enthralling undersea adventure that begins when a mysterious oblong, occasionally phosphorescent
thing , larger and infinitely faster than a whale, begins attacking boats. The famous oceanographer
Professor Pierre Aronnax is invited aboard the Abraham Lincoln to hunt down what he believes to be a
giant narwhal, but once they find it, even the superior war boat is no match for this strange creature.
Professor Aronnax and his trusty servant Council are thrown overboard and end up on the deck of an
oblong, occasionally phosphorescent submarine with their acquaintance Ned Land, a Canadian
Harpooner. They are then hostilely brought aboard and told by Captain Nemo that they are never
allowed to leave the Nautilus, the boat our three travelers happened upon. After this depressing news,
they are offered the opportunity to travel the world underwater and experience wonders only the
captain himself has ever seen, which they promptly accept. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

step out on the board. Students will then be able to see exactly how to solve the math problems which
will enhance their comprehension. Visual Imagery can also be used to explain math vocabulary.
Word Maps:A word map can be used in math to help students comprehend math vocabulary. The
teacher will create a word map for the students that they will have to fill out using a selected math
vocabulary word. The vocab word will be in the center of the map with surrounding topics, such as

they can be used as learning, researching, and communicating devices. They can produce many

The World s First Debate On Morality
In 11th Century, The Spanish Empire sent men to conquer the Americas and they discovered natives in
the area. As a result of their interactions with the natives, a debate as to how they should treat or
interact with the natives got to a boiling point, and was settled in a debate in Valladolid in 1550, with
two men defending either side of the world s first debate on morality. One of these men was
Bartolomé de las Casas, a Dominican Catholic friar who spent some time with the American Natives,
and debated to defend them against any harsh rule or handling by the hands of the Spanish. On the
other end was Juan Ginés de Sepúlveda, an Aristotelian philosopher, argued for the enslavement of
these natives due to the superiority of the Spanish over them. They both held strong convictions about
their arguments, however Las Casas argument was made more effectively because he was more
rational in his argument. Alternatively, Sepúlveda chose an exaggerated appeal to emotions as his
approach for the argument he was making. Sepúlveda appeals to emotion in a variety of ways one of
them being exaggerated language. In the beginning of his Treatise on the Just Causes of War against
the Indians , he asked, what moderation or mildness can you expect of men who are given to all kinds
of intemperance and wicked lusts, and who eat human flesh? The colorful use of words such as

The Opening Line Of The Middle Of Things
In the opening chapter of Anna Karenina, Leo Tolstoy uses the technique of in medias res, which
translates from Latin to in the middle of things , to establish the central themes of his novel. The
opening line of the book serves as somewhat of a thesis statement for the seven hundred pages that
follow that is, Tolstoy asserts the unique nature of unhappy families to preface a book about several
strained familial relationships. In the next sentence, Tolstoy establishes the novel s chaotic tone,
describing everything in the Oblonskys household as being upset . The rest of the paragraph features a
series of syntactically similar sentences in the past perfect tense that discuss, in a methodical way, the
causes and effects of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally, in the third paragraph, the reader is introduced to the first character, Stiva, whom they are told
is a prince. Tolstoy uses luxurious diction to demonstrate Stiva s lifestyle, referencing his morocco
leather covered sofa and his plump, well kept body . At the point the reader is introduced to Stiva, he
has had a sudden awakening. The authorial voice then switches from that of an omniscient third
person to the conscious thoughts of Stiva Oblonsky. In this manner, the paragraph is very similar to
the stream of consciousness style that would become so important during early twentieth century
literary movements. In doing this, Tolstoy both allows us the same incomplete impression of Stiva s
dream that Stiva has, and ties the dream with the light, surreal sentiment it evokes in Stiva. This
technique also plays with the themes of memory and perception that were so integral to Tolstoy s early
works. The dream features a party with fantastic imagery of singing glass tables and little decanters
that [are] also women . This fantasy party is set in America, about as far from Petersburg as possible,
which points to a pervading tendency for escapism in the Russian nobility at this time of social

The Battle of la Drang in Vietnam
Lieutenant Colonel Moore led his unit, the 1st Battalion, 7th U.S. Cavalry to South Vietnam, and led
them in the famous Battle of Ia Drang. Surrounded by enemy soldiers, and with no clear landing zone
that would allow them to leave, Moore managed to persevere against the overwhelming odds and
complete his objective. Moore s dictum that there is always one more thing you can do to increase
your odds of success and the courage of his entire command are given credit with the outstanding
outcome (Galloway). Despite the fact that Moore s outstanding leadership and tactical prowess led to
more than a 4 to 1 ratio between North Vietnamese casualties and U.S. casualties in their first major
engagement of the war. Many consider this early battle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Lieutenant Bob Taft s 3rd Platoon of Alpha Company confronted approximately 150 Vietnamese
soldiers advancing down the length and sides of the creek bed toward the battalion trying to reach
Herrick,s platoon. 3rd Platoon s troops were told to drop their packs and move forward for the assault.
The resulting exchange was costly for 3rd Platoon, causing its leading forces of the assault to be
quickly cut down. 3rd Platoon was forced to pull back from the assault due to the numerous casualties,
and Taft was killed while leading pulling his men back. Sergeant Lorenzo Nathan, a Korean War
veteran, took command and 3rd Platoon was able to halt the NVA advance down the creek bed (X
Ray). The NVA forces shifted their attack to 3rd Platoon s right flank in an attempt to flank Bravo.
Their advance was quickly stopped by Lieutenant s Marm s 2nd Platoon from Alpha Company
situated on Bravo s left flank. Moore had ordered Captain Nadal to lend Bravo one of his platoons, in
an effort to allow Herren to attempt to fight through to Herrick s platoon position. .
It is quickly apparent that the enemy force is determined to overrun and kill every American on the

Difference Between Goodwill And Impairment
Introduction
Goodwill and impairment is very well related in accounting concept, impairment is a concept in
accounting that explains stable reduction in value of asset (Dauang ploy,O.,Shelton,M.,
Omer,K.,2005). To calculate impairment loss it is essential to de cide the amount of value in use, and
this involve the calculation of the cash flows which are supposed to be produced from the use of
assets. Goodwill can only be recognised when it is obtain in business combination.
Impairment
Impairment is a concept in accounting that explains stable reduction in value of asset.
Total profit and cash flow are expected to be produce by certain asset which is occa sionally
contrasted with book value. If the book value is more than cash flow of the asset, the remaining
amount should be written off and the value should be rejected from the balance sheet
(Dauangploy,O.,et. al.,2005). If the carrying amount is more than recoverable amount, it can indicate
the loss of impairment. Then the recover able amounts need to be written down. There are two
different models to recognise impairment, cost model and revaluation model. Impairment loss in cost
model can be recognised directly in profit or loss. In revaluation model asset is measured in its fair
value and impairment loss is recognised as descending revaluation.
Impairment loss, Cash Generating Unit¬¬¬¬¬¬
To calculate impairment loss it is essential to decide the amount of value in use, and this involve the
calculation of the cash flows which are supposed to be produced from the use of assets. Though, some
assets don t produce cash flow by itself. This is the reason why the cash flow is increasing due to the
combination of few assets together. In other word, car used by sales person does not produce cash
flow by itself (Sun,L., Zhang,J.,2017). When the asset can not generate cash flow by itself it is
necessary to group them and it is called cash generating unit . Cash generating unit is the smallest
recognisable group of assets that brings cash inflow.
At the end of the period after identifying what is Cash Generating unit is, manage ment need to figure
out if impairment is occur or not. If there is possibility of impair ment, calculation of recoverable

Essay on Historical Roles of Men and Women in Leadership
While analyzing professions held by men verses those held by women through history, the concept of
history that needs to be observed is a vast period of time. For if all or most of known history about
humans is not taken into consideration, then much of present day analysis of leadership gender roles
might actually start to make sense. The previous sentence was not an error in thought or printing.
Much of modern analysis of gender perspectives in leadership and the roles of men and women seem
to forget the thousands of years of history and the more recent, evolution of gender equality, which has
taken place to get to where we are at present day. The key word is evolution; we are slowly but
steadily evolving into a better and more efficient ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To analyze the many histories of people, a person must look to the historical aspects of that particular
culture. The culture of any one group of people is usually passed down through generations via family
and community. Whether the culture is nomadic tribal peoples of Mongolia or a modern day Roman
Catholic Italian American family, the culture and its typical roles for men and women are passed along
through each community. Tradition is also a source to be traced when looking at a group s historical
gender role development. A people s culture will usually go hand in hand with their traditional values.
These interlaced values of culture and tradition unite and bind families as well as communities
together with one another. When traditions are passed along from one generation to another,
sometimes the idea of questioning said traditions never enters ones mind. Some people are taught that
this is just what you are supposed to do, while others do not want to buck the current culture. This
being said, whatever role a person s gender might have played in their parents life, that role will
probably be the same or very similar in that person s life. Yet another thread that is interlaced with a
people s history and culture is that long, entangling string of religion.

This is also to avoid having to change the design during construction resulting in delays and increased

involved the excavation mechanically and by hand of trial pits and the drilling of exploratory holes.
Selected samples from the tests were collected to assess the presence of contamination and
geotechnical characteristics. Based on the ground investigation, potential for significant contamination

Religion and Hate Crimes Essay
In 2008, the Uniform Crime Reporting program of the U.S. Department of Justice Federal Bureau of
Investigation reported that 13,690 law enforcement agencies submitted hate crime data to the UCR
Program. Of these agencies, 2,145 reported 7,783 hate crime incidents involving 9,168 offenses and of
the 7,780 single bias incidents reported in 2008, 19.5 percent were motivated by religious bias (1).
The statistics of 2008 are alarming to look at because the numbers of hate crimes committed in that
year are exceedingly high. These numbers are in the thousands and most of these crimes are coming
from states like New York, New Jersey and California (Hate 1). The statistics only confirms that

This movement wanted all different groups of people to live in peace and be free of any kind of
discrimination. However, it s clear that the civil rights movement did not carry out its goal because
many minorities like the Jewish people still suffer many hate crimes.
Christianity is the most prevalent religion in the United States. Many people belong to this religion.
However, what happens when you don t belong to Christianity? One religion that is not Christianity is
the Jewish religion. This religion is one of the most ancient religions that is still very much provident
today. However, this religion isn t a respected religion even after the Holocaust and Jewish people
continue to be the victims of many hate crimes. Donald Altschiller reinforces this speculation in his
book, Hate Crimes: a Reference Handbook, when he states that, anti Semitism has had a pernicious
history throughout the ages and around the world and Jewish hatred and violence has always been one
of the highest of hate crimes. These attacks are averaging 85 percent at Jewish Americans (16). It s not
hard to see that hate crimes against the Jewish is remarkably strong. It is strong enough to lease out a
rampage of violent attacks and murder. For example, Altshciller reports an incident of September 1996
where sixty grave markers were killed at the Bikur Choli Sheveth cemetery in Connecticut (16). The
grave markers were Jewish and were killed while on the

Letters From The Spanish Civil War
The granting of regional autonomy to the Basque region in October 1936 proved critical in
maintaining it within the fold of the Republican cause. Some Popular Front leftists in Madrid and
Barcelona viewed the Basques with certain mistrust (Getman and Lasanowski). This shows the
administrative weakness the Republic was facing at the time. They were looking at the complete
breakdown of their rule to the nationalist and even if they did not really trust the Basques and Catalans
they knew they needed their support in the war. The support from the Catalans and Basques was not

There are a variety of theories that are useful in understanding this issue. The theories that will be used
here to explain the state of murdered and missing women in Canada and Harper s response to it are
societal reaction perspective and Spitzer s Marxian theory of deviance.
In order to understand the constructed identity of Aboriginal women in Canada today and in the past,
it is necessary to discuss ideas of empire, including Manifest Destiny and Terra Nullius. These
European concepts were and generally still form the ideology operating in Canada. Expansion of the
ruling class empire is taken for granted and divinely supported. This is the basis for European
exploration of the globe, claiming of already occupied lands and colonization of existing peoples.
Manifest Destiny was the 19th Century settler belief that it was their destiny to expand throughout
North America. Terra Nullius is the concept that land determined to be empty, in other words not
being used productively by a civilized people, could be occupied by those Europeans who found it. Of
course, both of these concepts belong to the ideology of European empire expansion which
indisputably devalued the existing Aboriginal communities. The French and English settlers pushed
their Christian beliefs onto Aboriginal peoples and succeeded in altering Aboriginal communities from
their matrilineal nature into

Finally, I believe that same sex marriage is the union of people who love each other according to the

religion, or gender, they should be able to decide for themselves if they want to get married. The
government has no right to infringe on people s rights to freedom and the pursuit of happiness. If
marriage makes a couple happy, they should have the right to get married. The conservative position
on this topic uses the argument that it goes against moral and religious beliefs. In a society that is

working toward even before I worked on Haven. I ve shadowed directors as much as I could and as
long as I could in the hopes of one day getting to direct myself. And that actually came to pass, and the
experience was beyond my wildest dreams. It was just incredible. I loved it. I was terrified and just
completely overwhelmed the whole time with a combination of sheer terror and pure joy. It was
amazing. Then I assume that s something you d like to do more of in the future. Definitely. Definitely.
So in addition to directing, are you thinking one day you may do some writing? Yeah, I ve been doing
some writing for a little while now. And yeah, I would love to be able to have some of ... Show more

all sorts of dangerous and wild stuff. So it s something very different. But I play an investigative
journalist her partner and so the two of us are trying to figure it all out the show starts out with a
murder. And it gets more and more confusing and more and more dangerous. It s going to be a pretty
wild show. It sounds interesting, but of course, since it s in Canada, we will have to wait to see it.
Sometimes it upsets me because there are these great shows up in Canada that we can t watch Totally.
but of course, it happens that s there s shows here that you guys aren t able to watch. Right. For now,
Shoot the Messenger is premiering on CBC. But hopefully it will be available internationally,

Differences Between Fahrenheit And Fahrenheit
2.2 Compare + contrast the Kelvin, Fahrenheit, and Celsius temperature scales and be able to convert
values between scales.
Today we use three temperature scales. The first of these scales was Fahrenheit scale. It was
developed in 1714 by German scientist Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit. He developed first mercury
thermometer after being inspired by alcohol thermometer invented by Danish scientist Olaus Roemer.
Fahrenheit made it more precise by multiplying his scale by four. He establish zero by mixing equal
amount of water, ice and salt. Then he mixed just equal amount of ice and salt, and scales gave him
next point 32. The last point he establish by using body temperature which was approximately 96.
After his death his scale was adjusted to 32 as melting temperature of plain water, normal body
temperature at 98.6 and boiling point of plain water at 212. Fahrenheit temperature scale was widely
replaced by Celsius scale, except USA and some Caribbean countries. Celsius scale was developed in
1742 by Swedish astronomer Andres Celsius. When he was developing his scale, he marked 0 as
boiling point and 100 as freezing point. This scale was known as centigrade. After his death in 1948
The Conference General des Poids et Measures renamed this scale to Celsius and establish the scale as
we know it today. Melting point at 0 degree and boiling point at 100 degrees. This scale is the most
use scale in the world. The last scale we use today is Kelvin scale. This scale has an advantage

Permanence Of Loss
Most young children have at least a vague idea what death is they might know its name, how it affects
the adults in their life, that some of their favorite movie or book characters have experienced it but
when a child loses a pet they are confronted by mortality for what is often the first time.
Dogs and other pets are often loyal companions who spend years alongside your family, providing
unconditional joy and love. Grieving the loss of such a friend is natural and healthy.
So how can you best help your child manage and move on from their grief? Before beginning the
daunting endeavor of teaching your child how to cope with a broken heart, ask a few basic questions
of yourself about your child.

They might seek to understand death in familiar terms, asking where the dog has gone or when he will
be back. Helping a young child grapple with loss can mean providing a literal explanation. Children
can more easily accept their pet s absence if they understand that their pet s body stopped working
correctly, or that doctors could not fix the problem.
By grade school, children generally have a better understanding of the finality of loss; this expanded
view of life often leaves children with more questions. You can best help your child by listening to
these questions. It s okay to admit you don t have the answer what s important is building a
relationship in which your child feels you are emotionally available to them.
What can I learn about how my child is coping from his/her behavior?
Despite developmental factors, the experience of loss can differ dramatically from child to child, and a
single child can respond to grief in a multitude of ways. The following expressions of grief can clue
you in to how your child is processing a

Flannery O Connor Religion
Generally when a person writes a story, they use past experiences and adventures in their life to help
create a plot for their stories. Usually these events create a base for which the author writes upon thus
contributing to the author s exceptional way of thinking. For example, author Terry Teachout says that
O Connor s religious beliefs were central to her art (Teachout 56). O Connor s religion played a
crucial role in her writings. Flannery O Connor is regarded one of the major brief tale authors in

She successfully uses made up characters from the south to depict a rather bizarre religiosity of the
protestant fundamentalists to show a spiritual life which is struggling to exist in what is rather a non
spiritual world. Flannery O Connor s qualifications affected her to create the story Revelation. an
essential impact on the tale is her Southern experience. During her life time, Southerners were
extremely prejudiced towards other people of other cultures. They regarded that poor individuals were
substandard to them; therefore, individuals were marked as different things and placed into different
community sessions. Loads and loads of works have been written with the sole intention of honouring
one O Connor and trying to shed some light on her literary genius. Unlike many writers of her time O
Connor did not write to entertain or edify. She was not a modernist either something that influenced
her writing style towards grotesque shock other than gentle persuasion Her literature sought to reorder
the way we perceived the love of God at the same time maintaining the integrity if her artistic writing
style. O Connor can be put in the same literary class as the likes of Sophocles depicting her as a post
modern classic writer. In her fictions work, she does not shy to criticize spiritual apathy and
materialism critiquing the modern day rationalism s nullification to the need for a Christian faith

Melting Pot
The Metaphor of the Melting Pot Peggy Ruth Geren The melting pot has been used metaphorically to
describe the dynamics of American social life. In addition to its descriptive uses, it has also been used
to describe what should or should not take place in American social life. How did the term originate?
How was it used originally? How is it used in contemporary society? What are some problems with
the idea of the melting pot? How is public education connected to the idea of the melting pot? How
does the melting pot function in American cultural and political ideology? These are some of the
questions considered in the following discussion. The Statue of Liberty is by now a universally

102).The common school was seen as an avenue for the assimilation of immigrants into American
society. Formal schooling was not systematic in America in the mid 1800s, despite the regional efforts
of strong advocates for public education. There were wide regional and cultural differences in
attitudes toward the idea of tax supported, systematic formal schooling based upon a common
curriculum. Various religious groups had established schools for the perpetuation of their theology and
culture, especially in the mid Atlantic and Northern states. These groups were fearful of relinquishing
responsibility to political authority. In the Southern states, slavery and a strong caste system were
impediments to the development of public schools (p. 97). The influx of huge numbers of immigrants
exacerbated religious and cultural tensions and engendered conflicts with American workers who were
fearful for their jobs. This volatile situation created even more support for systematic public education
as a socializing agent. Public education became part of a wider humanitarian movement addressing all
kinds of social ills created by urbanization, industrialization, and immigration (p.105). A diverse group
of largely middle class reformers called for action to abolish slavery, to improve the conditions of the

Alexander The Great Persuasive Essay
These are examples of how Alexander strived to complete his objectives by spilling as little blood as
possible. However, not all cities were willing to surrender to Alexander. Some, such as Tyre and Gaza,
chose to fight to the last. Alexander knew that he had to take these cities so he chose to turn their
refusal to surrender and the time that they forestalled his armies into some benefit. Both the cities of
Tyre and Gaza were massacred brutally after refusing Alexander s terms of surrender. While these
sieges costed him both time and men, Alexander used these massacres as a weapon of terror against
his enemy. Through his actions he was able to show that a speedy surrender to his forces was the
preferable option to resistance, and likely reduced the time and casualties that would have been
sustained by a long series of continuous sieges. However, Alexander was also extremely fortunate to
follow up on his success in battle with great rewards. After the battle of Issus, Alexander was able to
seize the Persian treasury which was being stored in Damascus. The seizing of your enemy s material
wealth is of utmost importance in conducting warfare and perfectly reflected Alexander s strategic
objectives. It prevented Darius from quickly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

ensure that he would be able to operate his sieges against the Persian cities that were hesitant to
surrender to him. Simply put, Alexander, one of history s greatest military geniuses, utilized all the
aspects of his Kingdom to wage a highly effective war against the Persian King Darius that eventually
resulted in the creation of one of the largest empire s in

Guidin Shrek Tragic Hero Essay
A tragic hero is someone like Hamlet from Shakespeare s play Hamlet. The flaws and struggles within
his self on his choices and decisions. No matter what the character does, their flaws will lead to their
tragic downfall or something like Oedipus in the Greek drama Oedipus. While an epic hero generally
doesn t have the same type of waving flaws that a tragic hero does. They know the correct path in
following it no matter what. An anti hero is a central character in a story, movie, or drama who lacks
conventional heroic attributes.

characters who are outlaw by order of the fairytale hating Lord Farquaad. With the help of mixed fairy
tale creatures, including a talking donkey, Shrek attempts to earn back his home, and in the process

Psychological Characterism In Black Skin, White Masks By...
In Black Skin, White Masks, Fanon attempts to describe and analyse the experience of Black people
within white controlled societies, and argues that Blacks are forced to experience serious
psychological problems because of pressures to assimilate and take part in the process of colonization
by a racist, white society. Fanon argues that to fit in and successfully integrate into higher social
circles, Black people are encouraged to want to become white, rather than to embrace their African
heritage, though this is ultimately a moot point, as argued within the text, as white society will never
truly accept Black people within it as equals, but rather second class inferior citizens. This essay aims
to analyse the arguments that Fanon presents within his text, using the work of other authors to both
support and criticise Fanon s claims regarding the dehumanisation process that takes place for both
Black and white individuals. Within the first chapters of the book, Fanon explores the different
relationships between race, language, and culture, and focuses his study with the French colonized
islands of the Caribbean, where he is from, and those who have left the islands to live in France.
Fanon observes how the French language is a vital part of French culture, yet when Black people
speak French, it serves as a reminder that it is not their culture, and it is not their language. Instead,
they are reminded that they will never truly be members of white French society.

Louise Rosenblatt Poem
Reflection on Rosenblatt Limerick (Ireland) is a cold, humid city. Days in Limerick are gray. Always
rains there. A continuous drizzle falls day after day. You need to watch out where you are walking, try
to avoid the mud on your shoes. It is always wet and muddy. You need also to be careful, people throw
their waste into the streets. The odor, as you can imagine, is unbearable. This city is poor and
miserable. Macondo (Colombia) is a hot, humid little town lost somewhere in the Colombian coast.
Macondo has a delicious fruity aroma due to the guava tress that you could see there. However, you
do not want to be outside at noon, the sun at that time is brutal. That is the reason why the majority of
people living in Macondo prefer to take ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reader and the text make possible to construct multiple layers of reality. Rosenblatt states:
literature especially invites confusion about its relation with reality (p. 33); thus, the pretended reality
of the text only emerges when the reader makes it real. Text reality is not just related to the tangible
world, but it is related to the realities constructed in the mind of the reader. It is not uncommon, for
example, to see children creating realities in their minds when they read. It has been more than once
that I have seen my own children to mimic the voices of the characters of the text. How can they
mimic a sound that is not audible? This only could be explained through Rosenblatt s framework of
the transactional process of reading. Rosenblatt philosophy of reading has made possible, for those
who belief that reading is much more than the processing of printed words, to understand the reader s
position as the center of the transaction, and create around him/her a truly supportive literacy system,
not just to be able to decode printed symbols, but also to construct the meaning of texts. I am sure that
I was provided this literary context in the form of accessing to books and caring of my reading
practices; otherwise, I am afraid, my love for reading would have disappeared as the years

  • 2. The Electric Car In 10 years, it is believed that the electric car will slowly start to push the gasoline/petrol vehicle to the curb, and it will do it with style and swagger. In this ever growing age of technology and advancement, more and more people are either looking very seriously into or have already transitioned from ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicles. The transition is seemingly a slow one for the majority of the public and although it is understandable, it is also inevitable. Combustion engine vehicles have been around for over a century and have dominated the car industry greatly. The reliance on ICE engines can be visible in any direction someone turns, walking through the streets of any city. The mindset that ICE rules, and is the only efficient and viable method of transportation is slowly being replaced by the ever decreasing well of fossil fuels and oil on earth. Oil has been the spine of the Earth and the gasoline car, it s pumping heart. There are many reasons that more and more people are turning to electric. Some of the advantages are: Higher efficiency by as much as 400 to 600 percent over an internal combustion engine No polluting byproducts because this car gets its power from batteries, the wind or the sun Three times as efficient as gas engines Is extremely safe Gets better mileage than any other car on the road Quiet to drive Convenient Durable Although everyone has his or her personal motivations to owning and driving electric, some ... • 3. Hampton Roads Research Paper Although short and non eventful, the battle of Hampton roads, during the Civil war, showed the world the future of warship construction, forever changing Naval Warfare. After visiting the past through the museums exhibits, I believe in order to understand this battle in its entirety, one must not only look at the battle itself but the events leading up to it. The union had a plan to block the confederacy by placing union ships around it. This particular battle was a small, taking place in Hampton roads, but the size of the battle has no effect on its significance. The battle is fought between the CSS (confederate states ship) Virginia, formerly called the Merrimack, and USS (union states ship) monitor. Each of these ships were carefully designed war weapons, each made of iron. Beforehand war ships were made of wooden material. while ironclads ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This weapon was quite important throughout the battle. While the turret did in fact turn well, it was difficult for it to stop turning once in motion. Eventually, the crew let it revolve and started firing on the fly when the target was in sight. Both the Monitor and the Virginia served as prototypes for future war ship what would be used for their innovative designs. However, the monitors design continued as the principal coastal and riverine warship. The clash of armor takes place March 9th, 1862, however it is essential that I go back a few days to the critical events leading up to the battle. March 6th,1862 was went the las gunpowder shipment arrived for the CSS Virginia, nonetheless, the Virginia still did not have a full crew. • 4. Relationship Between Emma Woodhouse And George Knightley This essay will analyse the relationship between Emma Woodhouse and George Knightley in the text Emma from a feminist perspective. The relationship in general contains two different personalities. Emma is one who believes that she can create the perfect couple , which gives her the belief of knowing everything . George Knightley is more of a moral compass for Emma, and he usually displays his approval and disapproval of her actions. Before the relationship is examined; it would be insightful to reflect on the social context that the text is set in like the system of patriarchy, and the expectation of women from certain wealthy families. The Elizabethan era was marked by the rule of Queen Elizabeth I (1558 1603). This era in English history has often been regarded as a golden age of the time. This was due to ideas of national pride, many reforms in areas of society, and the use of theatre alongside William Shakespeare (1564 1616). This society was however set within the confines of patriarchy. Emma is also set within the confines of a patriarchal Elizabethan era society. Even though the text was written after the time of Queen Elizabeth I and Shakespeare because Jane Austen lived about 100 years after the two (1775 1817). The idea of patriarchy was one notion that continued. Patriarchy is defined as, A system of society or government in which the father or eldest male is head of the family and descent is traced through the male line . The father has control over the ... The idea that bones can break, and fingers can be cut off, and noses can bleed. Tendons, especially. She found tendons disgusting. Hated the idea of them, because she couldn t imagine a tendon without imagining it snapping like a sinewy rubber band. I don t know why she never expressed the same aversion to ligaments, but she probably had it, if I d brought it up. I never could bring it up, though, because if I made any mention of violence of any kind, she looked like she was going to throw up, and sometimes she did. So, in addition to not being able to discuss certain aspects of the news (she never knew and never wanted to know the details of the night Trayvon Martin died, for example,) we also couldn t watch certain movies. After a year or so of living with her, I d taken to checking movie review sites made for Christian parents to decide which movies their teenagers can and cannot watch before suggesting anything. In retrospect, and as with many opinions this is one that has become less generous in retrospect, for all I know precisely because it s in retrospect anyway, in retrospect, I think nobody who refuses to confront even the barest fact of the breakability of bones and ignores big issues (like the nature of truth) to avoid small ones (like stepped on fingers) could possibly have anything to say, certainly as an ... • 6. Essay about Cubism Pablo Picasso Pablo Picassso was probably the most famous artist of the twentieth century. During his artistic career he created a large body of work that consisted of sculptures, prints and ceramics, while experimenting with several different materials. Today Picasso is known as one the forefathers of the artistic movement known as Cubism. Pablo Picasso was born on October twenty fifth 1881, in Malaga, Spain, to Jose Ruiz and Maria Picasso. Rather than adopt the common name of his father, Picasso took the more unique last name of his mother as his own. quot;An artistic prodigy, Picasso at the age of fourteen, completed the one month qualifying examination of the Academy of Fine Arts in Barcelona in one day. quot; as stated by ( ). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This change in Picasso s work became known as his quot; Rose Period quot; as stated by ( ). Picasso went on to meet George Braque, whom is also regarded as one of the forefathers of the Cubist movement. During this period in his artistic career, Picasso created the portrait of Manuel Pallares. To create this work of art Picasso chose to use oil as his medium of choice. What is so fascinating about the painting is his application of the medium. Picasso uses the brush and or palette knife to create a cross hatch effect throughout the painting. Picasso chose to use neutral tones to describe the mood of the painting. The figure of Manuel Pallares is shown in a three quarters view within the composition. The deliberate positioning of the figure leads the viewer to believe that Manuel was not someone of importance. His wardrobe also lets the viewer know that he is an average person. Picasso s treatment of the details is very representational of the Cubist style. Sharp lines and a vast array of contrasting shapes and colors emphasize the creases of the suit jacket. This same attention to detail is present in the mustache and the background as well. On the other hand, Picasso s treatment of the Manuel s face is quite different. Picasso uses softer shapes to fine the attitude of Manuel. The blandness of the face leads one to assume that Manuel was a man of peace in a world of chaos. The background also suggests that he is a man that is completely involved with his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Truth Or Falsehood In Ambush By Tim O Brien Truth or falsehood. That is a common question to everyone, especially parents. In the situation of Ambush by Tim O Brien, a returning veteran from the Vietnam War is asked if he has ever killed anyone before by his nine year old daughter. It was a difficult moment, but I did what seemed right, which was to say, Of course not, ... Mr. O Brien did what he believed was the right thing. He told a lie to his daughter to spare her the troubles of war and knowing that her father is a killer. That is not the only reason he spared his daughter from the truth though. He also lied to save himself from the memory of the incident, which are nightmarish memories to him. Sometimes a parent must lie to save their children from the horrible truth. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the strong points of that argument is that everyone deserves to know the truth, even children. I say that the truth is important yes, but it can also cause more harm than good. For example, if your grandmother bakes a chocolate pie and tells you to eat it, but it is the worst pie you have ever eaten in your life, it would be simpler to tell her that is was good rather than tell her the truth and hurt her feelings. No good can come from hurting someone s feelings. The truth will often cause that. Another point that some people use for this argument is that if his daughter found out the truth, she would view her father as a liar. If that was the case, every child of this planet would view their parents that way. Children grow up learning about the Easter Bunny, Santa Clause, the Tooth Fairy, and several other magical beings that do not exist. The sole purpose of those tall tales is the give the children entertainment and something to look forward to. Parents lie to their children every year, every time their child loses a tooth. So what is the difference about lying to keep them safe from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Swedish Welfare System Swedish Welfare System Sweden has created a social welfare state that has eliminated a great deal of poverty by providing extensive government aid to all citizens. It is referred to as the Swedish Model , and is based off of the belief that all citizens are entitled to help from the government. Although tax rates may be high the benefits by far outweigh the downfalls. The Swedish Model is more efficient and effective at equalizing citizen welfare than the United States system; in the United States the rich get richer, and those in poverty use welfare to barely scrape by. In Sweden all citizens are taxed fairly and have use of social welfare programs that have a much greater capacity to help citizens. These welfares are limited not only ... Based on this data the higher taxation and usage of extensive social welfare programs truly does increase welfare among the population. Whether it be per capita GDP, poverty rates, healthcare, or disability Sweden comes out ahead due to the structure of their government and their welfare system. They are able to more adequately provide for their population and make sure there is a more equal playing field. • 9. Farquhar s An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge had a much unanticipated conclusion, in my opinion. In fact, after finishing it, I had to revisit everything I thought I knew about what was going on in the story. For one, I had originally thought that the story was pretty basic plot a tale of a southern well to do planter s escape from a dreadful fate, which was death by hanging. However the case, it turned out that what I thought was happening in the story never actually happened. Peyton Farquhar s completely intricate and valiant escape, which included untying his bonds, evading bullets, swimming to freedom, and hiking back to the safety of his own home, never occurred. When the military sent him off the bridge to hang, the rope never broke. Instead the noose held fast, and Farquhar died right there no escape, no valor. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His embarrassment for doing so along with his insubstantial perception of reality is what tricked him into running straight into enemy territory, which met him with a terrible fate. After going back and reading through the story again, I noticed several clues Bierce peppered throughout the great escape to foreshadow Farquhar s death. For example, Bierce kept mentioning how Farquhar was feeling pain in his neck and how his mind was getting more and more lost, saying that he had fallen asleep while walking. Another abnormality I noticed was how the soldiers kept firing shots at Farquhar while he was escaping, and they never managed to actually shoot him. • 10. Human Impacts on the Environment Human Impacts on the Environment: Ocean Acidification Ecological human effects on the planet are now about 40% greater than the planet can support in a sustainable fashion (Grossman, 2010). One of the many areas with significant damage is the marine biosphere. Ocean acidification is a great threat to marine and subsequently human life. The pH level in the ocean has been a relatively constant 8.15 to 8.25 and organisms have evolved under these circumstances for over 50 million years. However since the end of the Industrial Revolution, worldwide burning of fossil fuels and human innovations such as concrete manufacture have resulted in the release of more than 440 billion metric tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Excess ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Anthropogenic emissions over the past 200 years have caused ocean acidity levels to increase by 40 % (Ocean Studies Board, 2010). Without major intervention and significant reduction of the global carbon footprint this will result in severe and irreversible damage to ecosystems and organisms ocean wide. Phytoplankton is found in the surface area of the water and is the primary element of varied and elaborate food webs in the pelagic, (an area of open water away from shore and bed) and other marine systems. Phytoplankton is essential for the cycling of nutrients in these systems, and acidification has effects upon photosynthesis, nitrogen fixation and calcification. These processes are key for zooplankton and phytoplankton composition. Humans are provided with a variety of services from marine ecosystems, such as protection from erosion and coastal flooding, seafood, nutrient cycling and natural products. As acidification progresses, these precious assets are likely to disappear. Should we choose to, there is both the technology and the economic potential to ensure a discernible decrease in carbon dioxide emissions. This is a far preferable and effective alternative to suggestions of geoengineering, with many proposed strategies failing to address the root cause of acidification (Royal Society, 2005). The longer it is taken to find a combative strategy, the greater the legacy of environmental ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Battle Against General Magnus And His Army It was 1930 at the railhead on Fort Bragg; they had completed loading the equipment on the big black iron monster of a train, and covering them with heavy black tarps, which they secured to the flatbeds. Colonel Lambert was no longer running the combat train; he remained back in Washington D.C. with his command, the 3rd Infantry Regiment. With the Army of the Potomac less than thirty miles out of the capital it was time for him to return to his duties. He placed Major Reese Sales in charge of this particular mission; it was of the highest importance and no doubt would make a huge difference in the fight against General Magnus and his Army. There were only a few people aware of the cargo that was being transported north, the Major of course, Colonel Lambert, Brigadier General Clayton who s idea it was, and the post commander of Fort Bragg. Major Sales boarded the train with the additional Soldiers he was bringing with him from Bragg; they were there to operate the equipment they were transporting. It would take a little over twelve hours to make it to the capital, another couple of hours to unload everything, test it, and then get it into action. As a result of their interactions with the natives, a debate as to how they should treat or interact with the natives got to a boiling point, and was settled in a debate in Valladolid in 1550, with two men defending either side of the world s first debate on morality. One of these men was Bartolomé de las Casas, a Dominican Catholic friar who spent some time with the American Natives, and debated to defend them against any harsh rule or handling by the hands of the Spanish. On the other end was Juan Ginés de Sepúlveda, an Aristotelian philosopher, argued for the enslavement of these natives due to the superiority of the Spanish over them. They both held strong convictions about their arguments, however Las Casas argument was made more effectively because he was more rational in his argument. Alternatively, Sepúlveda chose an exaggerated appeal to emotions as his approach for the argument he was making. Sepúlveda appeals to emotion in a variety of ways one of them being exaggerated language. In the beginning of his Treatise on the Just Causes of War against the Indians , he asked, what moderation or mildness can you expect of men who are given to all kinds of intemperance and wicked lusts, and who eat human flesh? Most people see Wade as just an NBA star who has a lot of money, but most people don t know the full story of what he has been through in his life and how he got to the NBA. When Wade was born, his parents separated a short while after and custody was given to his mother. Then because of the crime in Chicago and financial issues Wade had to move with his father. This is where Dwayne Wade began to play basketball and found out that he was really good at it. He was a star on his high school varsity basketball team then moved up to the college and was unable to play for his first two years because of his grades. For these two years that Wade couldn t play he still practiced with the team and continued to work on and improve his game. In 2003 Wade entered the NBA draft and was selected to play with the Miami Heat where he made himself an All star and still is an all star today. In this manner, the paragraph is very similar to the stream of consciousness style that would become so important during early twentieth century literary movements. In doing this, Tolstoy both allows us the same incomplete impression of Stiva s dream that Stiva has, and ties the dream with the light, surreal sentiment it evokes in Stiva. The culture of any one group of people is usually passed down through generations via family and community. Whether the culture is nomadic tribal peoples of Mongolia or a modern day Roman Catholic Italian American family, the culture and its typical roles for men and women are passed along through each community. Tradition is also a source to be traced when looking at a group s historical gender role development. A people s culture will usually go hand in hand with their traditional values. These interlaced values of culture and tradition unite and bind families as well as communities together with one another. When traditions are passed along from one generation to another, sometimes the idea of questioning said traditions never enters ones mind. • 38. In A Flood Inside Me Analysis At the start of the book Ed is simply existing. He s not living, I cook. I eat. I wash but rarely iron. I live in the past and believe that Cindy Crawford is by far the best supermodel. That s my life. (p.20) This is a sentence that I feel really shows who Ed is at the beginning. He more or less does the same thing every day in sort of a monotone way. Throughout the cards and difficulties that Ed goes through, we really start to see a person emerging out of Ed. We see someone who is feeling and hoping and living. In a flood inside me....three minutes straight. (pg.351) This change that we see in Ed happens progressively. Each card and task that is given to Ed brings out something in him that in the beginning we didn t see often. During the first chapter it doesn t seem that Ed has a lot of fears. When we were first introduced to him during the bank robbery scene I perceived him to be quite stupid. Then, we got to know him a little more and I saw that he was afraid, afraid of not doing anything with his life. Just prior to the bank robbery, I d been taking stock of my life. Various religious groups had established schools for the perpetuation of their theology and culture, especially in the mid Atlantic and Northern states. These groups were fearful of relinquishing responsibility to political authority. In the Southern states, slavery and a strong caste system were impediments to the development of public schools (p. 97). The influx of huge numbers of immigrants exacerbated religious and cultural tensions and engendered conflicts with American workers who were fearful for their jobs. This volatile situation created even more support for systematic public education as a socializing agent. • 50. Psychological Characterism In Black Skin, White Masks By... In Black Skin, White Masks, Fanon attempts to describe and analyse the experience of Black people within white controlled societies, and argues that Blacks are forced to experience serious psychological problems because of pressures to assimilate and take part in the process of colonization by a racist, white society. Fanon argues that to fit in and successfully integrate into higher social circles, Black people are encouraged to want to become white, rather than to embrace their African heritage, though this is ultimately a moot point, as argued within the text, as white society will never truly accept Black people within it as equals, but rather second class inferior citizens. This essay aims to analyse the arguments that Fanon presents within his text, using the work of other authors to both support and criticise Fanon s claims regarding the dehumanisation process that takes place for both Black and white individuals. Within the first chapters of the book, Fanon explores the different relationships between race, language, and culture, and focuses his study with the French colonized islands of the Caribbean, where he is from, and those who have left the islands to live in France. Fanon observes how the French language is a vital part of French culture, yet when Black people speak French, it serves as a reminder that it is not their culture, and it is not their language. Instead, they are reminded that they will never truly be members of white French society. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The reader and the text make possible to construct multiple layers of reality. Rosenblatt states: literature especially invites confusion about its relation with reality (p. 33); thus, the pretended reality of the text only emerges when the reader makes it real. Text reality is not just related to the tangible world, but it is related to the realities constructed in the mind of the reader. It is not uncommon, for example, to see children creating realities in their minds when they read. It has been more than once that I have seen my own children to mimic the voices of the characters of the text. How can they mimic a sound that is not audible? This only could be explained through Rosenblatt s framework of the transactional process of reading. Rosenblatt philosophy of reading has made possible, for those who belief that reading is much more than the processing of printed words, to understand the reader s position as the center of the transaction, and create around him/her a truly supportive literacy system, not just to be able to decode printed symbols, but also to construct the meaning of texts.
