The Objectives Of Organic Farming
Organic Farming is the practice of producing food without the use of harmful chemicals that can
cause great damage to the environment. Their production is natural and is done without the use of
things like pesticides, herbicides or growth hormones in order to protect the surrounding areas.
They are produced without synthetic chemicals and no genetic modification can be used for these
particular plants. These plants are supposed to have higher nutritional quality without artificial
fertilisers or synthetic chemicals. Organic Farmingfalls within the Agricultureand Fisheries sector as
it involves cultivating of land to grow foods.
The aim of Organic Farming is to improve soil fertility by using different techniques such as crop
rotation and organic to assist in plant growth rather than using growth hormones or synthetic
chemicals.
In order to turn things organic, there is a process which must happen. Farmers must ensure that they
have effectively improved the fertility of their soil and they must try to eliminate weeds and pests
without using chemicals to do so. These things must be planned in order for the process to happen
sooner.
The Organic Federation of Australia (OFA) is one of the main organic organisations ins Australia
and was established in 1998 in order to represent organic and biodynamic industries within the
country. They wish to promote organic farming from a simple niche market to a larger and more
significant part of Australian food.

The Latin Of Latin Language
The written Latin language changed minimally from the time it was used in Antiquity to the time it
was used in the Medieval Era due to it not being spoken frequently in everyday situations. Instead
of learning Latin by hearing others speak it, just as one learned Old English or French during this
time, one needed to have a connection with the Church in order to be taught the language, or they
needed to hear others speak it. The Latintaught by the Church was undeviating throughout Europe,
and as a result all students learned the same Latin for centuries. However, common people who
were uneducated still spoke the language as a second language during the early medieval era, and
because of their lack of education in the language, the grammar became less steadfast and the
spelling saw some changes. Although the written Latin languagedid not evolve as drastically as it
had the potential to, it underwent certain grammatical changes that were set off by Jerome s use of
altered grammar in the Latin Vulgate. Jerome borrowed constructions from the other languages the
Bible had been written in and other authors used these alterations later. As a result, these altered
constructions, which had gone unchanged for hundreds of years, were made permanent in time
because the Vulgate was a broadly used resource for Latin. If it had not been for Jerome s initial
changes in the grammar of the Latin in the Vulgate, then Latin would not have evolved and would
have stayed even more similar to the

William The Conqueror
William the conqueror was an extraordinary man. He reigned over England from 1066
1087.During this time he achieved many great things. Winning the battle of Hastings, the
Domesday book and so on. People described him as a fine soldier a great administrator and NOT
a cruel man by the standard of his age. Read on and discover how he seized complete control of
England! William the conqueror had spent months preparing all his armour, weapons, boats and
training his army. He was going to invade England and kill the new King on the throne, Harold
Godwinson, who had taken an oath to give William the throne, but had gone back on his word. As
soon as William reached English shores, he began burning everything in sight,

Paleolithic Mating System
The study, reported in the journal Science, examined genetic information from the remains of
anatomically modern humans who lived during the Upper Palaeolithic, a period when modern
humans from Africa first colonised western Eurasia. The symbolism, complexity and time invested
in the objects and jewellery found buried with the remains also suggests that it is possible that they
developed rules, ceremonies and rituals to accompany the exchange of mates between groups,
which perhaps foreshadowed modern marriage ceremonies, and may have been similar to those still
practised by hunter gatherer communities in parts of the world today. The study s authors also hint
that the early development of more complex mating systems may at least partly explain

Federal Budget Deficit
Excessive Borrowing: Our Federal Government s Budget Deficit Maria comes home one day
earlier than usual. Her family, two daughters of age five and eight and a stay at home husband,
is surprised to see her so early and unexpectedly. The tired look on her face reveals the experience
she had at work. She brings out a sluggish smile as her daughters rush up to greet her with their
warm embraces, reminding her of the happiness they constantly provide but also saddened by their
questionable future. Quietly, she sits down in front of her anxious spouse as he patiently awaits the
news, sensing the tension in the air. Many people like Maria face the ultimate doom of losing the

Many skeptics challenge the reasoning for investing so much money into helping so many other
countries when that money could instead help us improve internal affairs. After all, foreign aid
spending has increased to $50 billion a year today, which could be put towards funding education
to ensure that more kids go to college and possibly affecting the innovation of the future(Morris).
Giving more than you receive is nice, but when it involves a country s financial crisis, maybe it s
best if Santa cuts back some of this year s presents. And although the argument may be valid,
lending out a helping hand can create more allies than enemies to help us in return when we need
it. In fact, foreign aid only accounts for 0.5 percent of the federal budget (Stearn). Compared to all
the other matters at hand that the government is worrying about, the amount of spending put into
aiding poorer countries is positive in both a moral aspect and a political aspect. The federal budget
deficit that we put so much trust in having handled for us is not to be dismissed so easily. This
isn t just about the future of our current generation, but also our children s future. Our
government fails to look back at history and see how growth has improved our economy and
made it flourish. Ultimately, what s at stake here if nothing is done is our jobs, job benefits, our
safety, and, overall, having a weak country whose currency is based off of its own good name. By
no means is having a high

Things Done Well During The Presentation
Things done well
During the presentation there were examples provided from the textbook to allow the trainees to
capture what was being presented and said. This allowed for them to see what was being taught.
It was also helpful that there were examples provided during the presentation to allow for a real
life experiences in the workforce, making everything more relatable to each individual in its own
unique way. There were also instances where trainees were asked questions and to engage them
throughout the process of training. This would allow them to constantly think, especially when
there were pop quizzes throughout. Trainees were also able to ask questions during the entire
presentation, allowing for people to have their answers answered at any point. In order for this to
succeed we had to prepare beforehand so that the questions would be answered as effectively and
as clearly as they could. Having handouts that had the slides with room to write notes on the side
allowed the audience to make notes and to write ideas. We also provide quizzes that were interactive
throughout the presentation on the slides. This allowed us to ask the question, and afterwards there
were animations that showed the audience which answer was the right one. It was a little bit of a
learning curve, but it was done clearly and effectively after some research had been performed. By
implanting new ideas into presentations, it not only allows the presenters to learn something new,
but it also

The Theme of Carpe Diem in Francis Macomber and Capital...
The Theme of Carpe Diem in Francis Macomber and Capital Of The World
The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber and The Capital Of The World A lot of Hemingway
s stories deal with life and death. Death even found it s way into some of the titles we have read
so far. However, in discussing death, we first have to look at life or rather how a life was lived, to
truly understand what death meant in the particular instance. Both short stories, The Short Happy
Life of Francis Macomber, and The Capital Of The World deal with lives cut short by a chance and
accidental encounter with death, while the soon to be deceased seem to gamble and court death.
Both also seem to have secondary characters that serve as guides ... Show more content on

Robert Wilson is constantly reminding Macomber of how things work. He says things like We
all take a beating every day, you know, one way or another (7) or when Wilson quotes
Shakespeare and says ...a man can die but once; we owe God a death and let it go which way it
will, he that dies this year is quit for the next (25). Wilson is here serving as a teacher of sorts for
both Macomber and for the reader. Similarly, in The Capital Of The World, Enrique says, You
think of the bull but you do not think of the horns. The bull has such force that the horns rip like
a knife, they stab like a bayonet, and they kill like a club (35). Enrique is spilling much the same
speech that Wilson is. He is telling Paco that life and the world come at your hard and they come
for you. Both Enrique and Wilson are serving as Hemingway s voice as he talks to each respective
character and the reader about death.
So far the stories have seemed similar in theme, if and even in execution. However, the one
defining event in each story is what serves as the marker that separates Francis from Paco; one
who actually lives from one who doesn t even get the chance too.
As put in the title, Macomber s happy life is short lived. After the buffalo hunt, Macomber states,
You know I don t think I d ever be afraid of anything again...Like a damn bursting. It was pure
excitement (25). We can already see a change in Macomber. He went from a coward at the start of

How Can World Poverty Be Ended
Why can t it just be ended? There s no debating world poverty exists, some say that we can and
others don t think we can. World poverty can be ended because the U.S. is wealthy enough, there
are enough food resources, and we are educationally wealthy.
First, the U.S., with the help of other countries, is wealthy enough to end world poverty. We have
enough money to end world poverty. According to worldaltas, We have many countries that owe
U.S money. For instants, Brazil owes $247.3 billion, Ireland ($256 billion), Japan ($1.13 trillion),
and China ($1.25 trillion) which is a total of $200,883,000,000. This is enough to end world
poverty. According to VisionofEarth, To end extreme poverty worldwide in 20 years, Sachs
calculated that the total cost per year would be about $175 billion. World poverty can be ended
with the help of other countries.
Next, the U.S. has enough food resources to feed the people in poverty. According to a report
from the Natural Resources Defense Council, everyday people throw away 38 million tons of
food away. Not including stores, 40% of food isn t eaten. The group says more than 20 pounds of
food is wasted each month for each of 311 million Americans, which is equal to $1,350 to $2,275
yearly, wasting for a family of four. Food resources can end world poverty.... Show more content on

attend American colleges and universities, constituting an increase of about 5.1 million since fall

Ethical Dilemmas In The Classroom Analysis
Class Reflection There are many times in a setting where you work with other adults that
something will come into play that provides a conflict that could potentially create a clash of
ideas. Sometimes something that one person may think is the correct way to go about things,
could be wrong in the eyes of the other adult. When this conflict comes into play the two people
that come into problems with one another need to make adult decisions to come to an agreement on
the conflict that has arisen. Conflict management is about calming discussing the situation in order
to brainstorm on the problem (Watson, 2012). My paper discusses a current dilemma, ethical ideal
/principles that relate to the dilemma, as well as future approach. Ethical Dilemma The ethical
dilemma that I have come into is a case in which a director was filling into a classroom for a

It almost feels like this falls under ethical responsibilities to the children. The teacher should ensure
they are creating a safe, healthy, nurturing, and responsive setting for each child (Gartell, 2013). By
the parent/director allowing the child to act out, the parent/director was not putting the needs of the
other children first. I say this because, the director is teaching the other children that it is ok to act
that way. In addition, if the parent/director was treating their child differently, such as favoring, the
other children could potentially pick up on this as well. The parent/director should facilitate
cooperative and individual activities so that each child can experience success (Gartell, 2013). By
not addressing the behavior of their child, this sends mixed messages to the class. In addition, this
does not allow the children the opportunity to cope with the behavior, hence allowing for a healthy
class environment (Morrison, 2014) as the parent/director is utilizing

What Chemicals Are Used And How They Will Be Used
General
In this section of the manual, it specifies what chemicals are used and how they will be used in
the lab. They specify that each reagent is to be used within its expiration date, and will not be used
past this date unless there is a legitimate reason for its continued use. It then goes on to specify that
all reagents will follow at least American Chenical Society guidelines for reagent grade chemicals
and what chemicals the lab uses. Finally, all chemicals will be checked prior to any case,
recorded in the case notes and in the Reagent Daily Use Verification Logbook, will be replaced if
the reagent cannot be used. The new solution of the reagent will be tested and documented in the
Latent Print Reagent Logbook.

This section also specifies that the staff will have a four year degree from an accredited college or
university with a major in forensic science, criminalistics, or in a physical or natural science, and
one year of professional experience as a Latent Fingerprint Examiner in a forensic laboratory or in
an identification division. However, if the individual has been in the discipline prior to
December 2004, then the educational requirements may be waived. Finally, it specifies that there
will be competency tests to show that the analysts are able to perform the proper test methods,
write a report to demonstrate the proper way of conveying results and the significance of said
results, a written or oral examination to determine the person s knowledge of the discipline, and a
moot court to assess the ability to properly convey and present results of evidence in court. There
are cases in which the moot court would be waived, such as in the case that the analyst is receiving
training in additional categories of testing. The Latent Print Section also keeps and provides access
to resources of the discipline, so the analysts are required to review the literature every three
months, and document it.

Chapter 12 Assignment Template For Workforce Reduction
Chapter 12 Assignment Template
FORM 12.1.1
Name : Bhavana Pilla
1. How do you evaluate this approach to workforce reduction? What (if anything) did Abbott do
right and what did he do wrong? What additional information do you need about the downsizing
effort in order to fully understand the process?
I think that Abbott did right by finding alternatives to workforce layoffs. It was good thought by
giving early retirement to employees over the age 55. Others like cross training and sharing
reduced the work on one person and improved efficiency. What he did not focus was did not
strategically look for other alternatives besides getting rid of older employees by offering them
retirement. He should of retained older people whose experience ... Show more content on

Else could have reduced the salary for all the employees for few months and this could have
motivated the employees to work more to increase productivity and to save their jobs. So proper
procedures to downsize with fairness all around or other plans could have been ideal instead of
discriminating and ending up in a legal suit spending more money than saving any.
5. Is disparate impact theory applicable to downsizing decisions? If so, create some data that would
illustrate the use of this theory of discrimination.
In disparate impact theory, the plaintiff has to show that there was discrimination done by his
employer. He has to show that discrimination was involved in his dismissal and not on the basis
of his performance at work. The employer would be charged by the disparate impact theory if age,
sex or racial discrimination is proven.
6. If prima facie evidence of age discrimination is found, what burden (if any) would Brooks
Pharmaceuticals have?
Brooks Pharmaceuticals have to prove that discrimination against these employees was not
because of their age. The dismissal of theses employees was solely based on their performance.
Failure by the company to prove the fact, there would be legal problems for the organization.

20th Century Police Hiring Policy
According to the text, Police Administration: A Leadership Approach, The British Parliament
responded in 1829 with the passage of the Act for Improving the Police..., the act established what
eventually became known as the world s first recognizable local police department. (Ortmeier
Davis, 2012) One of the first issues that needed to be standardized was who should be a police
officer and who can be depended upon to protect the citizens. Over the years, police hiring
standards have changed to meet the cultural standards of the times and needs of the profession.

procedure is due to several reasons. These reasons include: lack of qualified applicants, increase
in use of recreational drugs, changing societal views, some states are legalizing Marijuana use
and a more empathic view of being young and doing things that may be regretted later. Opponents
will say this is just another way of lowering standards, while proponents of the change will say
this is an adjustment in the realities that agencies are facing with regard to hiring. Time will tell if

Establishment Republicans Are Not Sniggering
Establishment Republicans are not sniggering at Donald Trump s antics anymore, especially as
he threatens to go solo in November if party insiders scheme to deny him the nomination. Echoes
of similarly irate conservative Teddy Roosevelt and his Bull Moose party sinking the
Republican (GOP) national campaign in 1912 get louder every time Trump wins a primary
state. After the real estate mogul announced his candidacy in June last year, party leaders
contentedly sat back in the peanut gallery ridiculing his naked attempts at demagoguery. Later,
they dismissed Trump s surging poll numbers as an electoral blip sparked by fringe sections of
the party base that loathed the GOP s handling of Congress. Moreover, they believed Trump s
novelty act as the outsider would soon wear out and make GOP voters collectively come to their
senses and coalesce behind either Marco Rubio or Jeb Bush, the party s blue eyed boys. This
cocksure feeling has now given way to one of dread as Trump keeps notching victories in the
primary season. A new Rasmussen poll puts Trump 15 points clear of closest rival Ted Cruz.
More worryingly, 24% of Trump s base will very likely vote for him if he runs as an independent,
effectively torching GOP hopes of preventing a Democratic three peat in the White House.
Republican rivals have tried ganging up on Trump in debates, running attack ads to discredit him
but nothing really stuck so the establishment is changing tack. Influential leaders of the conservative

Literary Analysis Of The Poem Morte DArthur
At first the poem Morte d Arthur, or the The Epic. The speaker says he is going to or is at the
home of Francis Allen on Christmas Eve. Also there are the people and Holmes; the poet,
Everard Hall; as the host. They gather around the wassail bowl (hot mulled cider) and discuss
how the honor seems gone from Christmas. The speaker is tired from his day of ice skating and
falling, and he dozes off, waking to the parson lamenting the general lack of faith throughout the
world. Francis jokes and says he holds faith in Everard, and Everard responds by saying he has
faith in the cider. The speaker asks Everard what became of his great gift of poetry that was so
evident in college, and Francis says that Everard had been working on twelve books about King
Arthur but threw them into the fire. It seems that Everard thought nothing new was said and the
books were mere Homeric echoes, nothing worth. Francis says he has saved one book from the
fire. The speaker s ears prick up, and he remembers the talent of his friend. After some urging, the
poet begins to read. The noise of battle goes on all day. All of the men of the Round Table have
fallen in Lyonesse. King Arthur has also been wounded, and his last knight, Sir Bedivere, brings
him to a chapel near the field in the barren land. The King speaks to Bedivere about the severing
of the company of knights, the men he loved, and how they will never talk again of lordly deeds

Introduction: Average Posterior Tibial Slope (PTS) in Indian patients is found to be higher than the
Caucasian population . The mechanical axis in the arthritis patients is shifted further posteriorly as
shown by increased Posterior tibial slope in arthritic patients. Post operative PTS after total knee

knee joint subluxation, tibial dehiscence , coronal plane joint instability etc. Most surgeons In

Pre operative Posterior tibial slope (preop PTS), Metaphysio diaphyseal angle (MDA) , and Post
operative Posterior Tibial Slope (postop PTS) were recorded. Data was analyzed using Pearson
correlation coefficient.
Results: The mean Pre op PTS was 18.4 degrees with standard deviation of 5.6 degrees. The mean
MDA was 19.7 degrees with standard deviation of 4.9 degrees. The mean Post op PTS was 10.2
degrees with standard deviation of 6.6 degrees. There is strong correlation between Pre op PTS and
MDA with pearson co efficient of 0.79 . Also there is moderate correlation between ratio of Post op

Conclusions: The knees with higher pre op PTS tend to have higher MDA and vice versa.
Although most surgeons are able to achieve the desired PTS at the higher extreme of the widely

those in the LGBTQ community and their coming out stories. We hope to inspire others who are

Decline in Water Supply in India
Introduction
The available water in India has declined drastically over the past several decades due to the rise
in demand for water sources across almost every industry. This shortage has greatly affected all
activity in India, including the agricultural industry and the available drinking water for domestic
life. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, or the FOA, believes that India
will literally run out of water if certain steps are not taken to replenish India s aquifers. To fully
grasp the matter, an explanation of the problem is below.
The main cause for concern is that India s flourishing agricultural industry uses the 91% of water
throughout the country leaving aquifers at lower levels every year. ... Show more content on

This type of depletion has experts exhausting resources to halt the progression of groundwater
extraction and to move to better innovations of irrigation enforcement.
Lack of Social Economic Stability from Overuse The overuse of water has raised concerns across
India and in some cases farmers have taken their lives from the poverty caused by the lack of
necessary water for their crops to prosper. (http://www.sigmaxi.org/programs/issues

Fluorosis Epidemic in India Fluoride is a geologic material that lies underneath most of India. As
water tables decrease, farmers are forced to drill deeper into aquifers to unsafe zones containing
dangerous levels of fluoride. In India, the Fluorosis and Rural Development Foundation have
estimated that over 60 million people suffer from diseases caused by the overexposure of fluoride
in drinking water from underground aquifers.
Split in Surface Groundwater Hydrologic Connections With the continued overuse of aquifers,
sigmaxi.com states that In the Maheshwaram watershed of Andhra Pradesh chronic depletion of
groundwater has lowered the water table 15 m below the ground surface . This causes the streams
and springs once fed by groundwater to disappear. Basically, natural tanks that once held water
have no way to collect water anymore because the pathways

Reproductive Rights In Canada
1.Reproductive Rights in Canada
Reproductive rights in Canada have been discussed in length for many decades, particularly in
regards to women s rights. Reproductive health is defined as the complete physical, mental, and
social well being of women based on the full achievement and protection of women s human rights
(Loretta Ross). Reproductive rights, therefore require three basic aspects for women, including the
freedom to choose the number and spacing of children, with the information and means to do so,
the right to have the highest standard of sexual and reproductive health, and the ability to make
decisions without being discriminated against (Loretta Ross). Reproductive rights also include the
freedom to have a safe and satisfying sex ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, around the 1970 s, people began to become hostile about this government intervention
and started to believe there should be a free market to minimalize government involvement

trade, opposition to government regulation, refusal of responsibility for social welfare, and
resource privatization (Alison Jaggar). The opposition of government regulation focuses
specifically on aspects such as production of wages, working conditions, and environmental
protections, while also pressing governments to abandon social welfare responsibilities (Alison
Jaggar). Neoliberalism supports capitalism and the free flow of goods, resources, and people,

Sheldon s Broken Window Theory
To truly test broken window theory would involve analyzing the public perception of disorder and
crime (Gau Pratt, 2010). Generally speaking do people differentiate between crime and disorder or
do they blend together? If indeed people can distinguish between the two, then there is hope for
maintenance policing and Broken Window Theory (Gau Pratt, 2010). However, if they do in fact
merge, then the effectiveness of maintenance policing and by proxy the validity of the concept of
Broken Window Theory need to be rethought.
BROKEN WINDOW THEORY 5 Data from a 2003 mail survey was conducted in the Eastern Part

neighborhoods. Twenty counties were sent the survey four times to ensure they got the survey. Two

Sheldon says that it is not even really a theory at all. Sheldon says that it lacks a theoretical basis
and has no rational (Sheldon, 2001). He says it is silly to think that if minor offenders like
window washers are arrested, that bigger crimes will go down because criminals will commit
crime regardless of a zero tolerance policy (Sheldon, 2001). Sheldon wants to know why there is
crime in a community in the first place, and how much of it was fixed before the policy was put
into place (Sheldon, 2001). Sheldon says that minor crimes like littering and graffiti do not lead
to homicide, rape or burglary (Sheldon, 2001). The general idea is that this minor disorder will
give way to more intense crimes, but Sheldon says the idea of disorder is sketchy at best is widely
open to a subjective basis. Sheldon also pays close attention to the New York Policing Experiment.
Sheldon points out that little mention is given to what

Small Business Administration Research
According to Small Business Administration research, only half of new businesses survive for
the first five years and only a third of new businesses are able to survive for 10 years. The inverse is
compelling as we can conclude that if only 50% of new businesses survive for the first five years,
then the other 50% fail in the first five years. We can also conclude that about 65% of new
businesses don t make it to the ten year mark.
Forbes reports an even more grim statistic, based on Bloomberg research, that of every 10
businesses, eight fail within the first 18 months. What are the reasons businesses fail to thrive,
given a 50/50 chance of survival and assuming a product or service for which there s a demand?
Let s discuss six reasons businesses fail and some ways you can avoid business failure.
Six Reasons Businesses Fail
1. Leadership Failure. Your business can fail if you exhibit poor managementskills, which can be
evident in many forms. You will struggle as a leader if you don t have enough experience making
management decisions, supervising a staff, or the vision to lead your organization. Perhaps your
leadership team is not in agreement on how the business should be run. You and your leaders may
be arguing with each other publicly or contradicting each other s instructions to the staff. When
problems requiring strong leadership occur, you may be reluctant to take charge and resolve the
issues while your business continues to slip toward failure.

The Amazing Adventures Of Kavalier And Clay And Amazing...
As someone who lives in the United States of America, the Freedom Capital of the World, it can
be hard for me to completely understand the horrors one endures under a dictatorship.
Practically every aspect of one s life is tightly monitored and controlled 24/7. The paranoia of
being caught doing something you should not be doing starts to wear you down more and more
every day. And god forbid you break a law or a well known rule, because there is a very good
chance that the government already knows about it. Within the stories of Michael Chabon s The
Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay and Junot DГaz s The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar

tactics, surveillance abuse, and the stripping of their citizen s basic human rights in order to

Jamaican Crime Every country in the world has their own issues that they have to deal with.
Jamaica is a strong example of this. Their biggest problem that they face is easily the crime issues.
There is really nothing in jamaica that brings in wealth. This is a big problem as there is no
businesses so everyone is pretty much poor besides a few parts of the island where the rich live.
In jamaica it doesn t matter where you are crimes happens everywhere, as for here in the U.S,
usually most crimes happen in the run down places, not in the nice areas of rich people. A big
problem is there isn t enough law and order to stop all of these crimes that are taking place.
There is not enough money to pay all of the policemen. So as these criminals are out killing, they
are trying to figure out how to fix it. We all need to worry about what is going on here. Crimein
Jamaica is terrible, with all of the drug trafficking to robbery or theft, although it is improving ,
Jamaica still has one of the highest crime rates in the world, and it doesn t matter where in
Jamaica a person is, crime happens everywhere, it doesn t help that Jamaica is located in the
Caribbean where a lot of the drugs in the cartel is dispersed, as people fight and kill for those
horribly addictive drugs that are ruining the island of Jamaica. There are plenty of reasons why
Jamaica is so filled with crime. There are drugs everywhere, as it is located in

Examples Of Damsel In Distress

CHAPTER I: TYPES OF REPRESENTATION OF WOMEN IN VIDEO GAMES
1.1. Damsel in distress One of the most widely used clichГ©s in video games is Damsel in
distress. The word comes from French demoiselle, which means young lady . Demoiselle en
detresse translates into damsel in distress . As a trope the damsel in distress is a plot device in
which a female character is placed in a perilous situation from which she cannot escape on her own
and must be rescued by a male character, usually providing a core incentive or motivation for the
protagonist s quest.
First known example of the Damsel in distress can be seen in the myth about Perseus and his wife

The protagonist Booker DeWitt, is sent there to find a young lady called Elizabeth, who has
been held captive by her father Zachary Comstock in a tower for most of her life. The scenario
sounds to be the classic example of Damsel in distress, but when Booker reaches the tower, he
realizes that she is not so gentle, helpless and defenseless as he thinks. She is unlike any
character that I have seen in a game, especially when you play through the entire thing and you
see how she evolves. DeWitt manages to rescue Elizabeth and they both get involved in the city
s conflict, during which she shows her strange, but strong superpowers. Her character is well
rounded. Her backstory is interesting and complex. Her flaws and the way she expresses
emotions makes her more real and human. She s resourceful and quick witted, with the ability
to break codes and pick locks like they re nothing (being locked in a tower with nothing but
books means she s got a lot of hobbies). Elizabeth has no experience with shooting and fighting,
but she effectively helps Booker. She looks for ammunition and health kits and provides them to
the main character. Her participation plays a vital role during battles. Elizabeth even saves
Booker life few times. That time Elizabeth gave him CRP on the beach when he almost drowned,
or that time she caught him with a blimp to save him from falling off the city, or that time she
gave herself up to Songbird to save his life. Elizabeth is essential to succeed. There is also no
sexual undertone in her relationship with Booker. Creative director of Irrational Games, said that In
terms of her body type, I think certainly people on the Internet have spent way more time thinking
about Elizabeth s chest than I have, he said. It s something I ve barely thought about. Levine said it

Social Changes During The Meiji Restoration Of Japan
Introduction
The Meiji Restoration, a significant era in Japanese history, saw the abolishment of the feudal
system of the Tokagawa period. With this, many social changes occurred which assisted in the
modernisation of Japan and its culture. The Tokugawa period consisted of many social groups
who were ordered in what was considered powerful to powerless. When the Meiji era began, many
changes occurred which affected Japan s social structure and foreign relationships. Major changes
occurred in the roles of the Emperor, Samurai and Peasants during the Meiji period and the
modernisation also assisted in fundamental changes such as diet, clothing and education.
Japan s feudal system in the late Tokugawa period
During the late Tokugawa period, with feudalism in place, there were different classes which all
had distinct roles. Feudalism was the social system in which people were given protection in return
for loyalty. (http://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com) At the top of the social hierarchy was the

The Emperor regained political, economic and military power, which meant that he was in full
power and control of Japan. The Samurai had been the warriors for the Daimyo but their

retire their armed weapons/swords and lost all feudal privileges. (http://afe.easia.columbia.edu/)
The Samurai The peasants had the advantage of marrying outside of their social class. The Meiji
period also allowed the peasants to own their own land but they had to pay taxes to the new
government which kept them poor. They were also allowed to be elected to positions in

Short Story A Good Man Is Hard To Find
In the short story A Good Man is Hard to Find Flannery O Connor brings a family road trip to life
writing a tale of misfortune and adventure throughout travel. I can relate to her story based on
the road trips taken over the years with my family. While not one trip stands out in my mind,
collectively fragments of adventures across the states come to me. Growing up we would travel
at least once a year if not more, solely relying on the pavement as transportation we would take
SUV s to the islands south or take a bus to New York. With my three sisters, various animals, as
well occasional grandparents accompanying these journeys, morale tended to grow hectic. My
parents although very kind, were incredibly strict through the entirety of my adolescence, when my
sisters and I would argue they would shut it down almost immediately. Now when arguments are
shut down without resolve they typically fester, and so emotions would explode between the
children. The back and forth bickering in a good man is hard to find reminds me of petty
arguments on late nights or days with little sleep and even more driving. The short storyA P written
by John Updikereminds me of my first year of public schooling. After completing homeschool my
mother chose to place me into a charter school in manatee county for my seventh grade year,
school was very foreign to me along with the company it brought. Throughout my years of
homeschool we spent our time traveling from state to state, or we were settled down. My first
public school encounter was a dreadful yet fun year depending on the day, I was often the
subject of class ridicule among others. I excelled in very simple academics in comparison to
what my mother and grandmother taught me, with good grades came the offer of being an
exclusive member of the safety patrol. As the year went on the safety patrol were given referral
slips to pass out accordingly, mine was given often to a bully of a very beautiful face, reminding
me of Queenie. The short story Good People written by David Foster Wallacereminds me of a
childhood friend, Jessie Sherman. While we lived in arcadia, a cozy town due east of palmetto, we
had very few neighbors and the ones we did have were

The Social And Environmental Levels
The ecological approach is simply a theory stating that the different social and environmental levels
with which one interacts, has in turn an overall affect on one s growth. Through analysis of the
NICHS study, which was performed with the basis of 68 biological fathers and 68 step fathers to
determine whether contextual factors associated with involvement and interaction patterns differed
between the two, several differences were observed overtime. To preface, it was stated that mere
contact between the father and the child is insufficient, and it is proven that quality of time is
greater than the quantity of it. The level of involvement of a father is truly measured in terms of the
division of work between the motherand the father himself, and his perception of his contribution to
child related tasks within the family; although it was analyzed that stepfathers assumed to have
similar levels of responsibility for childbearing actives as biological fathers did, it was also proven
that stepfathers are less engaged and less emotionally close with their stepchildren than biological
fathers. Overall, proving that although both do not differ in their initial levels of involvement,
stepfathers do differ in their quality of interactions with their stepchildren. The best way to use the
ecological approach to observe fatherhood would be by accounting for Bronfenbrenner s four facets
including: person, process, context, and time to observe development.

mission comes from the article A general model of organizational values in educational
administration : the phrase organizational values could be applied in reference to groups or
organizations, such values are thought of as being known, understood, and expressed in context of
the behavior and experience of individuals. (Mueller, 2014, pg.649) The reason why I picked this
quote is that it agree with the fact that people derive their workplace values from the behavior and
experiences of those that lead them. What this means is that the leader and their actions does
determine what the behaviors of the organization are. How this relates to the leadership of the
Englewood Fire Department modeling the values of its workers is through the behaviors of the
leader Chief Elmer Bergman. The chief has been a hard working yet optimistic man who tries to
not let the failures get to him instead using those experiences to learn and be better at his job.

The War With Mexican American War
The war with Mexico is long remembered as an episode, and by no means is it an unimportant one.
With the events that led up to its happening, from the Manifest Destiny to the disputes on territory,
it has severely marked the United States. American historians regard the Mexican American war as
the foulest blot on our national honor . (sfmuseum.org) Unethical actions were taken gain Mexican
territory. Polk and his hunger for land drove him to find some devious way to fight a war with
Mexico. His belligerent attitude in regard to this war was the foulest blot on our national honor.
However, as one studies the events that led to it, was it an unprovoked act of aggression? Or did
the US unjustifiably lure Mexico into one of the bloodiest wars on American soil?
The O Sullivan article on Manifest Destiny sparked an initial interest amongst the American people.
The idea that it was the United States destiny to expand across the continent became an ardent
hope. America had a strong Christian belief that God had intended this for the country. The need
for more land became vital as an increasing amount of immigrants flocked to the country each
year. As the US gained more land, they steadily began to approach the western part of the
continent. At the time, the United States was half of what it is now. The other half was owned by
a country that would soon be forced into a two year war.
Mexico was once a country half the size of the US. It stretched, as one could say, from coast to

3.1 Data Collection
Primary and secondary are the two major forms of any particular study. Primary has unprocessed
and information which is not manipulated and it is gathered directly from the source whereas
secondary means a reliance on the already researched work which is available and has been
researched by numerous scholars and researchers. Both methods are used to gather the important
info for the use of exploratory study as in this case.
3.2 Primary data collection
Bryman and Bell (2007) said that to carry out a qualitative data then there are two methods used:
direct observation and conduction an interview. This approach always provides an analysis in
detail and elaborates the research. Creswell (2009) had this view that primary data is important
and has a great significance because it is always in a raw form and it is more authentic because it
has been collected directly from the source. So, for this study it was suggested to conduct primary
data from the students who are studying in UK and the method used for semi structured interview.
The reason for using semi structured interview is that; researcher can easily edit the questions
asked in a semi structured interview session before they are answered and the questions can be
manipulated which makes it more valuable and important for any research. To conduct an

Imax Case Study
1. Introduction
Harberber and Rieple (2008) define strategy as a set of intentional or inadvertent set of actions
through which an organization develops the required set of resources, efficiently target valuable
customers, meet financial targets and competes effectively. These strategic decisions drive the long
term direction of the organization, the scope of its activities, help gain advantage over competitors,
and address changes in the business environment.
The case of IMAX begins in 1994 when business partners Gelfond and Wechsler decided to
purchase the organisation from its original owners and take the company public. IMAX operates in
a people oriented business, operating within the entertainment industry. Through the years the...

The largest threat however is the nature of competitive rivalry. Movie production studios are
releasing more movies in 3D format, which could pose a threat to IMAX s inhouse collection of
large format 3D documentaries (Georgiades, 2010a). Its buyers are vertically integrating to build
their own large format screens, and it is possible for them to start selling it to competitors (Pacher,
2009). The success rate of movies in the market also makes it increasingly difficult to turn a
significant profit on every movie featured in IMAX screens.
However, the industry is experiencing growth. Though it is increasingly becoming mature in US
/Canada, Worldwide box office revenue has increased steadily in recent years (as seen in figure
1). Growth was experienced in all regions of the world, especially Asia Pacific and Latin America
(MPAA, 2009). According to Georgiades (2010), the recent growth of the movie industry has been
driven by the introduction of new technology, particularly large format screens and 3D, through
which viewers can have a new immersive movie experience.

Pachner (2009) stated that the movie industry was increasingly becoming matured and declining,
as a number of cinema attendants would prefer to wait for DVD releases, however this has
changed with 3D technology. The recent success of the movie Avatar is a testament to the
increased demand for new technologies such as CGI and 3D (Firn and

Oklahoma City Bombing Essay
The Government s Response to the Oklahoma City Bombing The Oklahoma City Bombing affected
many Americans, including the President of the United States. From the start the White House
immediately dispatched the FBI. The initial reaction was to close the airports, but that would
infringe on civil liberties. Government intervention with this tragedy would help many victims
family members cope with the loss of their loved ones. Presidential response as well as monetary
compensation would attribute to the healing process. Since the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah
Federal Building many government actions have been taken to prevent another incident like the

Chair Steve Dasbach said, It shows that there is no tragedy that politicians won t try to capitalize
on to further increase the power of government. Desbach also thinks that if any government with
the power to kill their own citizens through the criminal justice system also has an obligation that
no innocent person is ever executed (LP Warns 1). Some say that the best defense against
domestic terrorism is a vibrant, open political system where no American will feel excluded or
voiceless. This would lead to an American foreign policy that does not interfere in the affairs of
other nations. This policy would help fight against terrorist like Terry Nichols, Timothy
McVeigh, and the others who may have contributed to the bombing of the
Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. Nichols was found guilty for his part in the bombing of the
federal building in Oklahoma on April 19, 1995. On this day 168 people were killed, more than
500 people were injured, and including the death of eight federal agents. Nichols was convicted
for conspiracy and involuntary manslaughter; he was sentenced for life in prison and was also
acquitted by the jury on the charges of first and second degree murder
(Oklahoma 2). Even though convicted he wanted the jury and America to understand that Timothy
McVeigh had intended to kill hundreds of people.

Second 360 Video Analysis
The second 360 video was a Hot Cheetos Eating made by Youtuber, David Dobrik. In this video
you are placed in the center of the table while Dobrik and his friend pass around a bag of Hot
Cheetos. In this video there are seven people to watch while the events of the video happen. I
did not this that this was a good use of 360 video because I was not really immersed into the
video. The video was not that interesting because there was way too much going on in this video
for me to get immersed. There are seven people all reacting in a panicked state at the same time and
it is very overwhelming. It also is tiring because of the angle of the camera. We are all stuck in the
middle of this table of giants as they pass on a bag of chips. The last problem

Five Elements Of The Theft Act 1968 (TA 1968)
If found liable, Justin and Robbie could both be charged with the property offence of theft under
s.1 of the Theft Act 1968 (TA 1968). The Act states A person is guilty of theft if he dishonestly
appropriates property belonging to another with the intention of permanently depriving the other
of it... In order for the offence of theft to be applied, Justin and Robbie must satisfy all five
elements of the actus reus and mens rea at the same time for the prosecution to prove liability.
The actus reus of the offence of theft is outlined in s.1(1) of the TA 1968 as; appropriation of
property belonging to another . Appropriation is defined in s.3 (1) of the TA 1968 as Any

Robbie stabbed Tommy after the alteration in the bank where Tommy punched Robbie in the
face. For Robbie to complete the actus reus of murder, the stabbing needs to be the reason for
Tommy s death. Nevertheless, Robbie stabbing Tommy does not need to be the sole or even the
main cause of Tommy s death. Robbie s stabbing needs only to make a substantial contribution to
the killing as decided in R v Cheshire. In order for Robbie to satisfy the elements of the actus
reus, he must also satisfy causation. R v White, sets out the but for test which asks; but for the
actions of the defendant, would the result have occurred? Robbie stabbing Tommy twice is the
only reason for Tommy s death. R v Cato also held that the defendants conduct must be more than
a minimal cause of the consequences, but it is not required for it to be the substantial cause.
Therefore, there is no intervening act, and the chain of causation is not broke. Tommy s injuries
from the stabbing were the reason for his death and he would not have died had Robbie not stabbed

The Main Achievements of Disraeli s Ministry 1874 1880 in the Field of Social Reform When
Disraeli was attempting to get back into government in 1873 and 1874, he made a number of
speeches to try to win voters. It is said that the speeches he made, especially the ones he made in
Manchester and at Crystal Palace, were very influential, and vital for the Conservatives recovery,
and eventual victory in 1874. The main target which the Conservative government would be
aiming for in the field of social reform, he said, would be to elevate the condition of the people . If
this was his real aim, we must look at the reforms his ministry introduced, and question whether
they actually did elevate the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Overall, this was an Act which was exceedingly beneficial for the working man, and if applied in
his area, would improve his lifestyle a great deal. A different problem for the working class at
the time, and therefore a problem for Disraeli when trying to keep their votes, was the long
working hours the working people of England were having to endure. Although it did not satisfy
the demands of the Nine Hours Movement, a pressure group largely supported in Yorkshire and
Lancashire, the Factory Act of 1874 did reduce the number of maximum working hours in a day
to ten hours allowing a half day on Saturday. The Factories and Workshops Act of 1878 further
reinforced previous factory legislation and also applied to workshops, where only a dozen or so
people worked. For the Conservatives, this was a good achievement, and it pleased the working
class who literally sung the praise of Cross, the man who had brought in the Acts. This strongly
contributed to keeping the support of the working class on the Conservatives side, which was of
vital importance in a time when the working men made up a large proportion of the electorate. The
restrictions Gladstone s government had placed on Trade Unions had frustrated the working people
greatly. Even the Liberals had promised to change, the Criminal Law Amendment Act of 1871 if
they got back into power.

Essay on This Boy s Life
Dwight and Caroline s relationship can be characterized into three stages. From its inception Jack
and Caroline had a relationship based on infatuation alone. Their relationship consisted of passion
alone for each other. Caroline was sexually attracted to Dwight, as was he to her. Caroline was
infatuated with the person Dwight appeared to be. She was turned on that he was nice and
charming and knew how to treat a woman. When they first began to go out Caroline adored the
fact that he brought her flowers. Dwight was simply interested in Caroline for what she had to
offer him. The passion alone is what got him to that level. Soon after their relationship developed
into a Fatuous Love. In the beginning of the marriage the couple s... Show more content on

Jack s need for social bonds and to belong motivated him to indulge in the activities of the people
whom he wanted to form the social bonds with. An example of the affiliation motive is the scene
where Jack cut school and met up with his friends to go to one of their houses to smoke and talk
dirty, while they were watching Superman. These activities can also be attributed to the stimulus
motives. Jack was now in a susceptible stage of his life. He was 15 and curious. His decision to
smoke cigarettes can be explained by his curiosity to try new things. He was now in the state of
exploration, these activities provided sensory stimulation. In the next scene where Jack and his
friends decided to put a car out of its park position, which sent the car rolling down the hill,
eventually crashing. This is an activity which they probably did for kicks, but it can better
explained by their need for stimulation, this activity provided that stimulation. Jack may have
also been influenced to participate in this activity by his need to belong and form social bonds.
He needed to maintain optimal levels of arousal, varying his exposure to arousing stimuli did this.
The smoking, school cutting, and car prank can all be attribute to the arousal theory. Jack s
decision to go live with Dwight was both extrinsically and intrinsically motivated. His mother
proposed this idea to him, but I believe that Jack was more intrinsically motivated to go live with
Dwight. Jack had been

Types Of Enthalpy Changes In Chemical And Chemical Changes
Enthalpy changes in chemical and physical processes M1 and D1
By sharing electrons, atoms within a molecule that are attracted to one another is called an
intramolecular force. Between the molecules intermolecular force, the physical properties for
example the melting points and boiling points, relate to the solubility and the strength of these force.
Protons are positive components and electrons are negative components. The attractive force that
exists between the two is known as an intermolecular force due to the atoms and molecules of the
substance. Intermolecular forces have four types:
Ionic forces This is like the dipole dipole interaction but it differs slightly as ions are used as well as
polar molecules. ions are held together by electrostatic forces in ionic solids. The charges in an ion
are attracted to each other because they are opposites. This force is the strongest intermolecular
force. In a crystal lattice structure, the ion forces hold the ions together. https://www.nature.com
/articles/srep35684 Dipole Forces When a molecule has two poles they are called dipoles or polar
covalent molecules. The molecule will have a partial positive charge on one pole whilst the other
pole will have a different charge that is partially negative. Therefore, the molecules will rearrange
themselves so the charges are attracted to the opposite charge so it works.

Essay on The Character of Robert Cohn in The Sun Also Rises
The Character of Robert Cohn in The Sun Also Rises
WWI consumed the lives of millions. Those lucky enough to have lived through the war did not
necessarily to get away unscathed. Many war survivors had lost a large chunk of something called
hope. Hope feeds the soul and is the fuel for love. Hope also supplies meaning in a confusing world.
Lacking hope and love, feelings of disillusionment, loneliness, inadequacy, and alienation were
commonplace.
The characters in Hemingway s The Sun Also Rises struggled with this, particularly Robert Cohn.
Cohn was a ray of hope that people just couldn t bear. As in a dark room when someone opened the

All of the characters were dealing with this whole issue of self. Cohn, however, dealt with his
problems in a different way. He cared nothing for boxing, in fact he disliked it, but he learned it
painfully and thoroughly to counteract the feeling of inferiority and shyness he felt on being
treated as a Jew at Princeton. Cohn was willing to work and suffer physically to try to gain back
some of what he wanted acceptance and love. The others tried to simply escape their problems
in sex, alcohol, work, or fishing. This is a similarity between Cohn and Romero. Although
boxing is not as threatening as fighting bulls, the work and torment and sweat involved show
the hope that they have that the end result is worth the work and pain. Cohn believed that true
love existed, but he had never known it. For four years his horizon had been absolutely limited
to his wife. For three years, or almost three years, he had never seen beyond Frances. I am sure
he had never been in love in his life. She [Frances] was very forceful, and Cohn never had a
chance of not being taken in hand. Also he was sure that he loved her.
Robert Cohn had two rather lengthy relationships both three years or more. He did not fall in and
out of love as quickly as the

Waupoos Family Farm Case Study
A modest Catholic charitable undertaking on the southern edge of Ottawa has offered vacations to
needy families since 1975. Waupoos Family Farm, founded by engaged members of the Cursillo

and donations to maintain and operate the farm.
Waupoos has been able to provide a fun weekly program to 40 vacationing families in July and
August by hiring four summer students who benefit from the work experience and money toward
their tuition fees as camp counsellors and pool lifeguards, thanks to a grant from the Canada

become more gender neutral in recent years are kids clothing. People no longer want their son to
just have to wear trucks and space. They want him to be able to wear flowers and pink. People
also want their daughters to be able to wear things about space and things more associated with
boys. Many parents have started their own clothing lines that only have genderneutral clothing. In

Imagery In Devil In The White City
In the nonfiction novel The Devil in the White City, Erik Larson uses Imagery, dark tone, and
oxymorons to portray H. H. Holmes, whose point of view is half of the story, as the Devil
incarnate: evil and subhuman. Larson utilizes imagery to exemplify Holmes character and
actions to the audience. He describes Holmes reaction to a friend s sister s death to give the
reader an idea of the cold inhumanity he possesed. Even though Holmes told Ned how sorry he
was about her passing, yet in his eyes there was only a flat blue calm like that of a lake on a still
August morning (123). Larson presents this imagery to give the reader a clear view of Holmes
point of view on death. When he reacts with such a flat blue calm, the reader can clearly see that
he did not posses even the slightest bit of sincerity. This serves to help the reader see the surface,
and allude to what lies beneath. Larson further proves his inhumanity with the portrayal of
Holmes murder of his pregnant fiancГ©e, Julia. Holmes promised he would marry her, but with
the condition that she had to allow him to execute an abortion. He then held the cloth coated in
chloroform over her nose and mouth and within seconds her eyes fluttered and rolled upwards
followed by the inevitable, reflexive disturbance of muscles, like a dream of running (148). Larson
uses words like flutter and rolled to show the reader that her consciousness fled from her with no
objection from her being noted. This is to

The Determinants Of Potential Of Susceptibility Essay
Developed determinants of susceptibility are just as dangerous, if not more, as innate determinants
of susceptibility. When groups with preexisting respiratory diseases including chronic obstructive
pulmonary disorder or asthma inhale fine particulate matter, it irritates and inflames the lungs and
airways ( Air pollutionand asthma , 2015). This makes deep breathing difficult and forces the lungs
and associated breathing muscles to work harder and faster in order to provide the body and its
tissues with adequate amounts of oxygen to function normally. When groups with preexisting
cardiovascular diseases including hypertension, heart failure, coronary heart disease, or stroke
inhale fine particulatematter, it inflames the heart, arteries, and other vessels ( Air Pollution and
Heart Disease, 2016). This significantly increases the risk of stroke, arrhythmias, hypertension,
atherosclerosis, and heart failure. PM2.5 also plays a role in causing plaques in vessels to rupture
which can trigger a heart attack. Since the heart has inefficient functioning due to the increased
demand and workload that air pollution presents to it, it must pump harder and faster in order to
provide the body and its tissues with adequate perfusion of blood to function normally. According to
Rajagopalan (2012), diabetic patients have previously been shown to be more susceptible to air
pollution induced cardiovascular morbidity and mortality because fine particulate matter decreases

Their production is natural and is done without the use of things like pesticides, herbicides or growth hormones in order to protect the surrounding areas. They are produced without synthetic chemicals and no genetic modification can be used for these particular plants. These plants are supposed to have higher nutritional quality without artificial fertilisers or synthetic chemicals. Organic Farmingfalls within the Agricultureand Fisheries sector as it involves cultivating of land to grow foods. The aim of Organic Farming is to improve soil fertility by using different techniques such as crop rotation and organic to assist in plant growth rather than using growth hormones or synthetic chemicals. In order to turn things organic, there is a process which must happen. Farmers must ensure that they have effectively improved the fertility of their soil and they must try to eliminate weeds and pests without using chemicals to do so. These things must be planned in order for the process to happen sooner. The Organic Federation of Australia (OFA) is one of the main organic organisations ins Australia and was established in 1998 in order to represent organic and biodynamic industries within the country. They wish to promote organic farming from a simple niche market to a larger and more significant part of Australian food. In order for packaging ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Latin Of Latin Language The written Latin language changed minimally from the time it was used in Antiquity to the time it was used in the Medieval Era due to it not being spoken frequently in everyday situations. Instead of learning Latin by hearing others speak it, just as one learned Old English or French during this time, one needed to have a connection with the Church in order to be taught the language, or they needed to hear others speak it. The Latintaught by the Church was undeviating throughout Europe, and as a result all students learned the same Latin for centuries. However, common people who were uneducated still spoke the language as a second language during the early medieval era, and because of their lack of education in the language, the grammar became less steadfast and the spelling saw some changes. Although the written Latin languagedid not evolve as drastically as it had the potential to, it underwent certain grammatical changes that were set off by Jerome s use of altered grammar in the Latin Vulgate. Jerome borrowed constructions from the other languages the Bible had been written in and other authors used these alterations later. As a result, these altered constructions, which had gone unchanged for hundreds of years, were made permanent in time because the Vulgate was a broadly used resource for Latin. If it had not been for Jerome s initial changes in the grammar of the Latin in the Vulgate, then Latin would not have evolved and would have stayed even more similar to the ... • 5. Paleolithic Mating System The study, reported in the journal Science, examined genetic information from the remains of anatomically modern humans who lived during the Upper Palaeolithic, a period when modern humans from Africa first colonised western Eurasia. The symbolism, complexity and time invested in the objects and jewellery found buried with the remains also suggests that it is possible that they developed rules, ceremonies and rituals to accompany the exchange of mates between groups, which perhaps foreshadowed modern marriage ceremonies, and may have been similar to those still practised by hunter gatherer communities in parts of the world today. The study s authors also hint that the early development of more complex mating systems may at least partly explain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Federal Budget Deficit Excessive Borrowing: Our Federal Government s Budget Deficit Maria comes home one day earlier than usual. Her family, two daughters of age five and eight and a stay at home husband, is surprised to see her so early and unexpectedly. The tired look on her face reveals the experience she had at work. She brings out a sluggish smile as her daughters rush up to greet her with their warm embraces, reminding her of the happiness they constantly provide but also saddened by their questionable future. Quietly, she sits down in front of her anxious spouse as he patiently awaits the news, sensing the tension in the air. Many people like Maria face the ultimate doom of losing the only method they can gain family income, especially in homes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many skeptics challenge the reasoning for investing so much money into helping so many other countries when that money could instead help us improve internal affairs. After all, foreign aid spending has increased to $50 billion a year today, which could be put towards funding education to ensure that more kids go to college and possibly affecting the innovation of the future(Morris). Giving more than you receive is nice, but when it involves a country s financial crisis, maybe it s best if Santa cuts back some of this year s presents. And although the argument may be valid, lending out a helping hand can create more allies than enemies to help us in return when we need it. In fact, foreign aid only accounts for 0.5 percent of the federal budget (Stearn). Compared to all the other matters at hand that the government is worrying about, the amount of spending put into aiding poorer countries is positive in both a moral aspect and a political aspect. The federal budget deficit that we put so much trust in having handled for us is not to be dismissed so easily. This isn t just about the future of our current generation, but also our children s future. Our government fails to look back at history and see how growth has improved our economy and made it flourish. Ultimately, what s at stake here if nothing is done is our jobs, job benefits, our safety, and, overall, having a weak country whose currency is based off of its own good name. By no means is having a high ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Things Done Well During The Presentation Things done well During the presentation there were examples provided from the textbook to allow the trainees to capture what was being presented and said. This allowed for them to see what was being taught. It was also helpful that there were examples provided during the presentation to allow for a real life experiences in the workforce, making everything more relatable to each individual in its own unique way. There were also instances where trainees were asked questions and to engage them throughout the process of training. This would allow them to constantly think, especially when there were pop quizzes throughout. Trainees were also able to ask questions during the entire presentation, allowing for people to have their answers answered at any point. In order for this to succeed we had to prepare beforehand so that the questions would be answered as effectively and as clearly as they could. Having handouts that had the slides with room to write notes on the side allowed the audience to make notes and to write ideas. We also provide quizzes that were interactive throughout the presentation on the slides. This allowed us to ask the question, and afterwards there were animations that showed the audience which answer was the right one. It was a little bit of a learning curve, but it was done clearly and effectively after some research had been performed. By implanting new ideas into presentations, it not only allows the presenters to learn something new, but it also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Theme of Carpe Diem in Francis Macomber and Capital... The Theme of Carpe Diem in Francis Macomber and Capital Of The World The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber and The Capital Of The World A lot of Hemingway s stories deal with life and death. Death even found it s way into some of the titles we have read so far. However, in discussing death, we first have to look at life or rather how a life was lived, to truly understand what death meant in the particular instance. Both short stories, The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber, and The Capital Of The World deal with lives cut short by a chance and accidental encounter with death, while the soon to be deceased seem to gamble and court death. Both also seem to have secondary characters that serve as guides ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Robert Wilson is constantly reminding Macomber of how things work. He says things like We all take a beating every day, you know, one way or another (7) or when Wilson quotes Shakespeare and says ...a man can die but once; we owe God a death and let it go which way it will, he that dies this year is quit for the next (25). Wilson is here serving as a teacher of sorts for both Macomber and for the reader. Similarly, in The Capital Of The World, Enrique says, You think of the bull but you do not think of the horns. The bull has such force that the horns rip like a knife, they stab like a bayonet, and they kill like a club (35). Enrique is spilling much the same speech that Wilson is. He is telling Paco that life and the world come at your hard and they come for you. Both Enrique and Wilson are serving as Hemingway s voice as he talks to each respective character and the reader about death. So far the stories have seemed similar in theme, if and even in execution. However, the one defining event in each story is what serves as the marker that separates Francis from Paco; one who actually lives from one who doesn t even get the chance too. As put in the title, Macomber s happy life is short lived. After the buffalo hunt, Macomber states, You know I don t think I d ever be afraid of anything again...Like a damn bursting. It was pure excitement (25). We can already see a change in Macomber. He went from a coward at the start of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. How Can World Poverty Be Ended Why can t it just be ended? There s no debating world poverty exists, some say that we can and others don t think we can. World poverty can be ended because the U.S. is wealthy enough, there are enough food resources, and we are educationally wealthy. First, the U.S., with the help of other countries, is wealthy enough to end world poverty. We have enough money to end world poverty. According to worldaltas, We have many countries that owe U.S money. For instants, Brazil owes $247.3 billion, Ireland ($256 billion), Japan ($1.13 trillion), and China ($1.25 trillion) which is a total of $200,883,000,000. This is enough to end world poverty. According to VisionofEarth, To end extreme poverty worldwide in 20 years, Sachs calculated that the total cost per year would be about $175 billion. World poverty can be ended with the help of other countries. Next, the U.S. has enough food resources to feed the people in poverty. According to a report from the Natural Resources Defense Council, everyday people throw away 38 million tons of food away. Not including stores, 40% of food isn t eaten. The group says more than 20 pounds of food is wasted each month for each of 311 million Americans, which is equal to $1,350 to $2,275 yearly, wasting for a family of four. • 10. Ethical Dilemmas In The Classroom Analysis Class Reflection There are many times in a setting where you work with other adults that something will come into play that provides a conflict that could potentially create a clash of ideas. Sometimes something that one person may think is the correct way to go about things, could be wrong in the eyes of the other adult. When this conflict comes into play the two people that come into problems with one another need to make adult decisions to come to an agreement on the conflict that has arisen. Conflict management is about calming discussing the situation in order to brainstorm on the problem (Watson, 2012). My paper discusses a current dilemma, ethical ideal /principles that relate to the dilemma, as well as future approach. The teacher should ensure they are creating a safe, healthy, nurturing, and responsive setting for each child (Gartell, 2013). By the parent/director allowing the child to act out, the parent/director was not putting the needs of the other children first. I say this because, the director is teaching the other children that it is ok to act that way. In addition, if the parent/director was treating their child differently, such as favoring, the other children could potentially pick up on this as well. The parent/director should facilitate cooperative and individual activities so that each child can experience success (Gartell, 2013). By not addressing the behavior of their child, this sends mixed messages to the class. In addition, this does not allow the children the opportunity to cope with the behavior, hence allowing for a healthy class environment (Morrison, 2014) as the parent/director is utilizing ... • 12. Chapter 12 Assignment Template For Workforce Reduction Chapter 12 Assignment Template FORM 12.1.1 Name : Bhavana Pilla 1. How do you evaluate this approach to workforce reduction? What (if anything) did Abbott do right and what did he do wrong? What additional information do you need about the downsizing effort in order to fully understand the process? I think that Abbott did right by finding alternatives to workforce layoffs. It was good thought by giving early retirement to employees over the age 55. Others like cross training and sharing reduced the work on one person and improved efficiency. What he did not focus was did not strategically look for other alternatives besides getting rid of older employees by offering them retirement. He should of retained older people whose experience ... Else could have reduced the salary for all the employees for few months and this could have motivated the employees to work more to increase productivity and to save their jobs. So proper procedures to downsize with fairness all around or other plans could have been ideal instead of discriminating and ending up in a legal suit spending more money than saving any. 5. Is disparate impact theory applicable to downsizing decisions? If so, create some data that would illustrate the use of this theory of discrimination. In disparate impact theory, the plaintiff has to show that there was discrimination done by his employer. He has to show that discrimination was involved in his dismissal and not on the basis of his performance at work. The employer would be charged by the disparate impact theory if age, sex or racial discrimination is proven. 6. If prima facie evidence of age discrimination is found, what burden (if any) would Brooks Pharmaceuticals have? Brooks Pharmaceuticals have to prove that discrimination against these employees was not because of their age. The dismissal of theses employees was solely based on their performance. Failure by the company to prove the fact, there would be legal problems for the organization. FORM 12.1.2 1.Based on what you know so far, evaluate the Brooks approach to workforce reduction? Echoes of similarly irate conservative Teddy Roosevelt and his Bull Moose party sinking the Republican (GOP) national campaign in 1912 get louder every time Trump wins a primary state. After the real estate mogul announced his candidacy in June last year, party leaders contentedly sat back in the peanut gallery ridiculing his naked attempts at demagoguery. Later, they dismissed Trump s surging poll numbers as an electoral blip sparked by fringe sections of the party base that loathed the GOP s handling of Congress. Moreover, they believed Trump s novelty act as the outsider would soon wear out and make GOP voters collectively come to their senses and coalesce behind either Marco Rubio or Jeb Bush, the party s blue eyed boys. This cocksure feeling has now given way to one of dread as Trump keeps notching victories in the primary season. A new Rasmussen poll puts Trump 15 points clear of closest rival Ted Cruz. More worryingly, 24% of Trump s base will very likely vote for him if he runs as an independent, effectively torching GOP hopes of preventing a Democratic three peat in the White House. Short Story A Good Man Is Hard To Find In the short story A Good Man is Hard to Find Flannery O Connor brings a family road trip to life writing a tale of misfortune and adventure throughout travel. I can relate to her story based on the road trips taken over the years with my family. While not one trip stands out in my mind, collectively fragments of adventures across the states come to me. Growing up we would travel at least once a year if not more, solely relying on the pavement as transportation we would take SUV s to the islands south or take a bus to New York. With my three sisters, various animals, as well occasional grandparents accompanying these journeys, morale tended to grow hectic. My parents although very kind, were incredibly strict through the entirety of my adolescence, when my sisters and I would argue they would shut it down almost immediately. Now when arguments are shut down without resolve they typically fester, and so emotions would explode between the children. The back and forth bickering in a good man is hard to find reminds me of petty arguments on late nights or days with little sleep and even more driving. The short storyA P written by John Updikereminds me of my first year of public schooling. After completing homeschool my mother chose to place me into a charter school in manatee county for my seventh grade year, school was very foreign to me along with the company it brought. Throughout my years of homeschool we spent our time traveling from state to state, or we were settled down. My first public school encounter was a dreadful yet fun year depending on the day, I was often the subject of class ridicule among others. I excelled in very simple academics in comparison to what my mother and grandmother taught me, with good grades came the offer of being an exclusive member of the safety patrol. As the year went on the safety patrol were given referral slips to pass out accordingly, mine was given often to a bully of a very beautiful face, reminding me of Queenie. • 35. The Social And Environmental Levels The ecological approach is simply a theory stating that the different social and environmental levels with which one interacts, has in turn an overall affect on one s growth. Through analysis of the NICHS study, which was performed with the basis of 68 biological fathers and 68 step fathers to determine whether contextual factors associated with involvement and interaction patterns differed between the two, several differences were observed overtime. To preface, it was stated that mere contact between the father and the child is insufficient, and it is proven that quality of time is greater than the quantity of it. The level of involvement of a father is truly measured in terms of the division of work between the motherand the father himself, and his perception of his contribution to child related tasks within the family; although it was analyzed that stepfathers assumed to have similar levels of responsibility for childbearing actives as biological fathers did, it was also proven that stepfathers are less engaged and less emotionally close with their stepchildren than biological fathers. Overall, proving that although both do not differ in their initial levels of involvement, stepfathers do differ in their quality of interactions with their stepchildren. The best way to use the ecological approach to observe fatherhood would be by accounting for Bronfenbrenner s four facets including: person, process, context, and time to observe development. With the events that led up to its happening, from the Manifest Destiny to the disputes on territory, it has severely marked the United States. American historians regard the Mexican American war as the foulest blot on our national honor . (sfmuseum.org) Unethical actions were taken gain Mexican territory. Polk and his hunger for land drove him to find some devious way to fight a war with Mexico. His belligerent attitude in regard to this war was the foulest blot on our national honor. However, as one studies the events that led to it, was it an unprovoked act of aggression? Or did the US unjustifiably lure Mexico into one of the bloodiest wars on American soil? The O Sullivan article on Manifest Destiny sparked an initial interest amongst the American people. The idea that it was the United States destiny to expand across the continent became an ardent hope. America had a strong Christian belief that God had intended this for the country. The need for more land became vital as an increasing amount of immigrants flocked to the country each year. As the US gained more land, they steadily began to approach the western part of the continent. At the time, the United States was half of what it is now. The other half was owned by a country that would soon be forced into a two year war. Mexico was once a country half the size of the US. It stretched, as one could say, from coast to ... This approach always provides an analysis in detail and elaborates the research. Creswell (2009) had this view that primary data is important and has a great significance because it is always in a raw form and it is more authentic because it has been collected directly from the source. So, for this study it was suggested to conduct primary data from the students who are studying in UK and the method used for semi structured interview. The reason for using semi structured interview is that; researcher can easily edit the questions asked in a semi structured interview session before they are answered and the questions can be manipulated which makes it more valuable and important for any research. Overall, this was an Act which was exceedingly beneficial for the working man, and if applied in his area, would improve his lifestyle a great deal. A different problem for the working class at the time, and therefore a problem for Disraeli when trying to keep their votes, was the long working hours the working people of England were having to endure. Although it did not satisfy the demands of the Nine Hours Movement, a pressure group largely supported in Yorkshire and Lancashire, the Factory Act of 1874 did reduce the number of maximum working hours in a day to ten hours allowing a half day on Saturday. The Factories and Workshops Act of 1878 further reinforced previous factory legislation and also applied to workshops, where only a dozen or so people worked. For the Conservatives, this was a good achievement, and it pleased the working class who literally sung the praise of Cross, the man who had brought in the Acts. This strongly contributed to keeping the support of the working class on the Conservatives side, which was of vital importance in a time when the working men made up a large proportion of the electorate. The restrictions Gladstone s government had placed on Trade Unions had frustrated the working people greatly. These activities can also be attributed to the stimulus motives. Jack was now in a susceptible stage of his life. He was 15 and curious. In the next scene where Jack and his friends decided to put a car out of its park position, which sent the car rolling down the hill, eventually crashing. This is an activity which they probably did for kicks, but it can better explained by their need for stimulation, this activity provided that stimulation. He needed to maintain optimal levels of arousal, varying his exposure to arousing stimuli did this. The smoking, school cutting, and car prank can all be attribute to the arousal theory. Types Of Enthalpy Changes In Chemical And Chemical Changes Enthalpy changes in chemical and physical processes M1 and D1 By sharing electrons, atoms within a molecule that are attracted to one another is called an intramolecular force. Between the molecules intermolecular force, the physical properties for example the melting points and boiling points, relate to the solubility and the strength of these force. Protons are positive components and electrons are negative components. The attractive force that exists between the two is known as an intermolecular force due to the atoms and molecules of the substance. Intermolecular forces have four types: Ionic forces This is like the dipole dipole interaction but it differs slightly as ions are used as well as polar molecules. ions are held together by electrostatic forces in ionic solids. The charges in an ion are attracted to each other because they are opposites. This force is the strongest intermolecular force. One thing that people have been wanting to become more gender neutral in recent years are kids clothing. People no longer want their son to just have to wear trucks and space. They want him to be able to wear flowers and pink. People also want their daughters to be able to wear things about space and things more associated with boys. • 54. Imagery In Devil In The White City In the nonfiction novel The Devil in the White City, Erik Larson uses Imagery, dark tone, and oxymorons to portray H. H. Holmes, whose point of view is half of the story, as the Devil incarnate: evil and subhuman. Larson utilizes imagery to exemplify Holmes character and actions to the audience. He describes Holmes reaction to a friend s sister s death to give the reader an idea of the cold inhumanity he possesed. Even though Holmes told Ned how sorry he was about her passing, yet in his eyes there was only a flat blue calm like that of a lake on a still August morning (123). Larson presents this imagery to give the reader a clear view of Holmes point of view on death. When he reacts with such a flat blue calm, the reader can clearly see that he did not posses even the slightest bit of sincerity. This serves to help the reader see the surface, and allude to what lies beneath. Larson further proves his inhumanity with the portrayal of Holmes murder of his pregnant fiancГ©e, Julia. Holmes promised he would marry her, but with the condition that she had to allow him to execute an abortion. He then held the cloth coated in chloroform over her nose and mouth and within seconds her eyes fluttered and rolled upwards followed by the inevitable, reflexive disturbance of muscles, like a dream of running (148). Larson uses words like flutter and rolled to show the reader that her consciousness fled from her with no objection from her being noted. This is to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. The Determinants Of Potential Of Susceptibility Essay Developed determinants of susceptibility are just as dangerous, if not more, as innate determinants of susceptibility. When groups with preexisting respiratory diseases including chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder or asthma inhale fine particulate matter, it irritates and inflames the lungs and airways ( Air pollutionand asthma , 2015). This makes deep breathing difficult and forces the lungs and associated breathing muscles to work harder and faster in order to provide the body and its tissues with adequate amounts of oxygen to function normally. When groups with preexisting cardiovascular diseases including hypertension, heart failure, coronary heart disease, or stroke inhale fine particulatematter, it inflames the heart, arteries, and other vessels ( Air Pollution and Heart Disease, 2016). This significantly increases the risk of stroke, arrhythmias, hypertension, atherosclerosis, and heart failure. PM2.5 also plays a role in causing plaques in vessels to rupture which can trigger a heart attack. Since the heart has inefficient functioning due to the increased demand and workload that air pollution presents to it, it must pump harder and faster in order to provide the body and its tissues with adequate perfusion of blood to function normally. According to Rajagopalan (2012), diabetic patients have previously been shown to be more susceptible to air pollution induced cardiovascular morbidity and mortality because fine particulate matter decreases vascular ...
