Self Reflection Essay Sample
Enrolling to Heritage University I wasn t sure what to expect. While obtaining my Associate of
Arts degree at Yakima Valley Community College my ultimate goal was to become a social worker.
Although, towards the last quarter at YVCC I realized that I was not passionate enough to continue
that career pathway. Transferring to Heritage I looked into the Business program. Now, I will be
graduating with a Bachelor s in Business Administration with a concentration on Entrepreneur.
During my junior year I realized I wanted to concentrate in marketing but was not completely sure,
so taking a internship with the HeritageUniversitys Academic Skills Center was a great opportunity
to put into place my interest for marketing.

To meet this objective my duty was to create print literature using design/adobe suite. For this
objective I decided to create the print literature using the classic techniques of drawing by
pencil, which I did draw out for most of the structure. Some details were outside my capacity
because I m not an artistic, but I used outside resources to help me express what I envisioned.
Before drawing I reviewed other web pages within the Heritage University website and outside
websites to get an idea of where to start. Anyone can draw what they believe is okay but the
importance of marketing is not what you want to see or do. People are the customers, so I made
sure to understand what people would like to know from these two departments. Their main focus
is finding the resources needed to support or guide them to succeed. Having in place a easy access

International Chaos Of The United Nations
A number of researchers, especially realists, believe that the anarchy does exist in contemporary
international politics, since there are no hierarchy of authority exists in international relations
(Pease, 2008:51). International anarchy does not always mean chaos or disorder, however, it urges
each state to arm itself for self defence, and it may also fraught with serious military conflict.
Although the Preamble of the United Nations(UN) Charter states that one of the duties of the UN is
to maintain international peace and security , it is not widely regarded as international government,
which exercises its authority all over the world. Still, millions of people believe that the
international organisations, especially the United Nations play crucial roles in preventing and
resolving military conflict between states. In this essay, I will examine whether the international
organisation, especially the United Nations contributes to prevent or dГ©tente international
disputes caused wholly or partly by the elements of international anarchy , or not.
Although some international organisations, even the UN, may not be recognised as world
government , which eliminates international anarchy, a number of studies suggest the positive
dimensions of international organisations in terms of preventing or resolving conflicts between
member states effectively. Russett, John, Oneal and Davis (1998) argue that the majority of
international organisations carry out functions of government

Fox News Research Paper
Rupert Murdoch created Fox News after he bought 20th Century Fox Films and had the rights to
create an additional channel. It was created on October 7, 1996 after he created his popular
Australian channel Sky News. It was developed in the United States and 10 million households
were able to watch it after 24 hours of being launched. It was created so that people in the United
States could be able to watch the news on one channel that broadcasted all over the U.S.
The Fox News channel increased in 2000 with about 56 million people watching the channel and
is still increasing each year. Rupert eventually turns the company over for 250 million dollars
which is way more than he put in to start the channel. While Murdoch was studying at Oxford he

Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents
In the novel How The Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents by Julia Alvarez; Sandra Sandi Garcia, the
second eldest daughter of the Garcia family. An accent is something that embodies you, but it
does not have to be a physical aspect of oneself. It can be a talent that let s others know who you
are what is special about you. To lose one s accent is to lose something that represents oneself; a
symbol of who that person is. Sandi s accent was her artwork. When she was forced to go to the
art class with her cousins and broke her arm, in this her moment she lost her accent. Fasting
forward to the future Sandi just wants to fit it with her sisters and look like them. Their is a

Art was the one thing that set her apart from her sisters and her other family members. This
made her feel special, as if she was the only person that possessed this ability. In the moments
before Sandi broke her arm she was peering into Don Jose s shed watching him work on his
sculpture while being chained to the shed. Don Jose begins to use Sandi s face for inspiration on
his sculpture. In this moment she is being broken from her previous self to then become the
person someone else choose for her to be. Breaking her arm is symbolic of breaking who is she
at this point in her childhood. Even after she broke her arm, it had to be broken again so that it
was able to heal the correct way. Sandi s accent was further broken at this point causing her to
heal as a new person. The experience of being unable to perform her passion made her rethink the
person she wanted to be when her cast was removed. When the cast was removed Sandi no longer
had the longing desire to create art; her previous self being broken and forgotten. Something that

was expected to continue past June. The real death toll will never be fully known due to bodies

The economic impact is huge, the impact is felt most in coastal area s. Fishing communities and
fisherfolk, some of the poorest people in the region, have been devastated with high losses of
income as well as material damage, i.e. boats and fishing gear. In Sri Lanka s coastal areas, for
example, artisanal fishery is an important source of fish for local markets and industrial fishery is
the major economic source of income, providing direct employment for about 250 000 people. In
recent years the fishery industry has emerged as a dynamic export oriented sector, generating large
sums of foreign exchange earnings. Preliminary estimates indicate that 66 percent of the
fishingfleet and industrial infrastructure in coastal regions have been destroyed by the wave surges,
which will have adverse economic effects both at local and national levels .

Who Failed Phoebe By Alyssa Giacobbe
The difficulty of creating a new and effective idea is immense in today s society, and
establishing a code of conduct is no exception. A code of conduct is important material that can
be used to solve many cases, but it is not a comprehensive solution when left on its own. There
are many factors that lead to the code to result in being completely defective, and one being that
schools lack the necessary ideas to help accommodate all specific needs and individuals. The code
of conduct is a constant debatable topic that has to be updated frequently in order to appeal to the
alternating societal issues that are bullyingand harassment. This has become a substantial problem

One important and unforgettable case is that of 15 year old Phoebe Prince. Phoebe was a
vibrant, intelligent, and popular Irish girl who had come to America to live the great American
dream, but all that took a turn for the worst when she began to endure online bullying and
harassment from her ex boyfriend s new girlfriend, and four other individuals. According to the
online article, Who Failed Phoebe Prince by Alyssa Giacobbe, Phoebe was constantly attacked,
taunted and bullied by a group of six students for a long period of time. The individuals accused
Phoebe of many different ordeals including the idea that Phoebe had taken another girl s
boyfriend and called her heinous names. Phoebe resulted in going to school officials,
administration, and the school principal hoping that someone, anyone of those adults would
come to her aid, but none did anything to help her. The constant name calling continued on all
social media platforms and Phoebe felt like her world was tumbling down. On the day of
January 14, 2010, Phoebe decided that she would no longer want to live life with six people
constantly taunting so she decided to take her own life once and for all. Justice for Phoebe s death
consisted of all six individuals facing criminal charges in court and serving sentences, not just legal,
but life worthy. Even after Phoebe s death many of the same people continued to post and comment
terrible things about her and this was the time in which many students from the school began to
speak up. All students asserted that the school officials failed to help or even empathize with any
student with the ordeals that were endured and it was a great matter of neglect that was faced.
Inaction was a common plague at this high school because the administration did nothing and

Human Papillomavirus ( Hpv ) Essay
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), we know that Human
papillomavirus (HPV) is a kind of severe sexually transmitted infection (STI) and it is so
common that the majority of sexually active people may infect HPV during their lives. The
majority of HPV infections cause no severe symptoms and can be resolved spontaneously in two
years. But some of them preserve and lead to premalignant condition or warts. The premalignant
condition will increase the danger of several kinds of cancers, such as the cervix cancer, vulva
cancer, vagina cancer, mouth cancer and throat cancer. According to the information from the
CDC and WHO, HPV16 and HPV18 are two kinds of high risk HPVs, which may cause cervical
cancer among women; HPV6 and HPV11 are considered to be the common causes of genital warts

The Effects Of Electroconvulsive Therapy On Other Forms Of...
INTRODUCTION I am going to be examining Electroconvulsive Therapy, which is used to treat
severely depressed people, as well as other forms of psychological disorders. I m focusing only on
how this therapy is used to treat major depression, because although depression is the most treatable
mental illness, it is still the one we all suffer from the most. This therapy uses electrical currents to
re charge the neurotransmitters in the brain, allowing these neurotransmitters to function
efficiently, restoring the chemical imbalance in the Adrenal and Thyroid systems; which is often
found in patients with severe depression. This therapy is better known through the media as shock
therapy. Sounds scary, but it s very safe and has been proven to help save people suffering from
this often unbearable, mood disorder.
POPULATION
People most at risk for depression are ones who have had something terrible happen to them at
some point in their lives. It could be the loss of a loved one, getting fired or laid off from a job,
or finding out that your husbands been lying and cheating with your good friend. Developing
major depression also increases if you re a heavy drug user or alcoholic, and if someone in your
family has had these same thoughts and feelings. If a family member has a mood disorder, studies
show a significant increase that s over double the likely hood, of developing these distorted
thoughts.
Researchers also found that people between the ages of 25 44 years old

Brofenbrenner s Theory Of Microsystem Analysis
The two significant life events I chose to examine further are, when I met my fiancГ© and when
I received my GED. I chose these two events because they were the most life changing, I am a
better person for them. When I met my fiancГ©, I was at a horrible point in my life. When he
entered my life, he helped me get back on my feet. He was there for me when I could not depend
on anyone else and I am forever grateful to have met him. I also chose receiving my GED as
another pivotal life event. Obtaining my GED has opened the door for me to further my
education and it is something I would not have pursued if not for my fiancГ© s support. Passing
the test was one of my biggest achievements, and I am very proud of my score. If not for these
two major life changing events, I definitely would not be enrolled at Ashford, on my way to a

Fight Club Case Summary
Darden Graduate Business School administration was concerned with the school s reputation due
to the poor quality of work produced by the club. Therefore, the club was endangered of being
disbanded unless there was an improvement in client satisfaction. To improve client satisfaction
and OCI reputation, the leaders of OCI analyzed issues within the club and proposed initiatives to
turn the club in the right direction of productivity. During the process of analyzing issues within
the club it was observed that the rate of predicting the sizeable case load varied due to available
resources of the club along with clients expectations which resulted in the disconnect between the
two. Therefore, several applications of cases were rejected or discarded because of the feasibility
of the case along with clients viewing OCI as being a cheap source of labor. Although, the quality
of productivity by the club was in question, membership required cases to be continually assigned
which forced members to accept such projects poorly fit and unappealing. Leadership felt to

Desmond Doss Character Analysis
Desmond Doss performed bravely in his first battle, as well as in the countless battles that
followed. Though strongly discouraged by sergeants, captains, and medical officers, he would
continually go on patrol with his platoon; any other man would never have thought to do so
when given just one logical reason not to. He never faltered in treating his comrades, nor did he
ever leave a man to die when there was a chance, even a slight one, at saving him. In another
battle, this time on the island of Leyte, Doss darted straight into an open area alive with sniper
fire to rescue a wounded man calling for help. After successfully and slowly dragging the soldier
back to the retaining wall, he was told that he had been the target of a sniper during his entire
rescue mission. One of the sergeants told him, Doss, we expected to see you killed any second.
We couldn t shoot the sniper without killing our own men, and he had his machine gun aimed
right at you. Didn t you see him? It was reported years later that a former Japanese soldier sitting

Jane Smiley s Growing Up At Home
I.Thesis Statement: Parents have to become more aware of the affect they are having on their
children when they do no implement chores into a child s day to day activities. Chores help
establish good work ethics in which children will need as they grow into adult life. Proverbs 22:6
says Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it
(Proverbs 22:6 King James Version). Chores should not be looked at as the leftover job a parent
does not want to do but more as experiences and learning lessons that carry on with a child
throughout life. Gearing up a child to become a hard worker is a tough job, and as a parent you

Similar Themes in A Rose for Emily, The Garden Party, and...
Short stories often have various underlying themes and meanings to them and can often be
compared to other stories to find those same meanings. Occasionally, you need to dig deeper to
find these hidden meanings. The three short stories, A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner,
The Garden Party by Katherine Mansfield, and Everyday Use by Alice Walker all share some
similar themes and ideas that require some digging to uncover and bring to the surface. The
main analysis this essay with cover is comparing how the three stories discuss and express class
and heritage, as well as how death can cause people to not only think things in a different way
but also how death can open your eyes to something you never would have seen otherwise.
Another thing that is potentially easily missed is how each of the individuals writing styles and
backgrounds affect the ground work of the stories and how they progress. The first of the three
stories is called A Rose for Emily (Faulkner, 1993). It is a story focused around Emily Grierson
and the author divides the story into 5 parts or sections. The story has a narrator that goes
nameless for the entirety of the story. In section one of A Rose for Emily (Faulkner, 1993) the
narrator is recalling the death of Emily Grierson and how the collective group of towns folk attend
the funeral, which is located in her home. It also talks about how after the death of Emily s father
that the mayor of the town at the time suspended Emily s tax responsibilities

How to Take Care of your Hose Essay
Most people with horses like to turn their animals out during the spring and summer months which
has a lot of advantages but also may have some disadvantages that people must be aware of. Those
lighter coloured hores and particularily horses with flesh marks such as cremellos are prone to
sunburn which can cause a lot of unnecessary pain to the horsethis can be prevented by applying a
equine sun cream and ensuring your horse has shelter from the sun. horses also get very irritated
by flies and horses attract them so again adequate shelter is necessary also fly repellents and fly
buster rugs give them adequate relief at a low cost.
Horses drink a lot of water and need water even more than food so it is vital that there is a constant

Get your soil tested it is cheap and you can get so many benefits from doing so. This can tell you
if your pasture has a large concentrate of calories. It is said that it is better to try and prevent
having to re seed your pasture for horses and must be a last resort. Re seeding is necessary when
land becomes destroyed by poaching or drought. Or when the quality of sward has deteriorated due
to consistant harvesting for forage.
When re seeding it is said to loose the amount of nitrogen in the soil by ploughing.
When re seeding you must be careful on the time of year you do it for example april is said to be
the best time to do it when re seeding for horses.
All vegetation must be killed using herbicides before re seeding. And also it is essential of a frim
seed bed to be in place . it is also a good idea to graze the pasture afew times before the harsh winter
sets in but preferably not by horses as the grass can be too lush for them and it is treated which the
horses find hard to digest. It is a good idea to try avoid the conventional way of re seeding ( plough,
till, and sow) as it breaks down the soil sod . and weakens it . the one pass system is much more
effective for horses. This is the following procedures
* Spray with herbicides
* Soil test
* Apply lime or fertiliser as recommened by soil test( no more than 1.5 tonne of lime should be
spread on 1 acre over a period of two years)
* Cultivate the top 2 inches of soil by power harrowing

How Is Contemporary America A Better Society
The United States is worldwide known as The Great Melting Pot a country that accepts and respects
people no matter their race and origin. But in reality, America has been struggling with racism
throughout it s history. Studies show that about half of Americans believe that racism is still a big
problem in our society. But despite this, racismhas improved over the years. Contemporary
America is a better society in terms of discrimination than it was in the 1960 s. In the 60 s racism
was so severe that African Americans had to face racial segregation, white supremacy and unequal
opportunities. In saved by Malcom X, Malcom depicts his view on racism in the 60 s as his hatred
for white peoplegrows as he learns more about African AmericanHistory and the horrors that white
people have done throughout history.
Contemporary America is a better place to live than it was in the 1960 s. The USA has
improved a lot since the civil rights movement. In todays society, African Americans are given
equal rights as white Americans and racism seems to be fading away as the years pass and our
society becomes more and more accepting of diversity. African Americans between ages now
believe that it s easier for them to achieve the American Dream than it was for their parents. We
can see this by the fact that more and more African Americans are going to college and becoming
successful. President Obama is an example of this. The fact that we have an African American
president shows that our

Romanticism In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
INTRO: While the Age of Enlightenment emphasized reason and knowledge, the following literary
period from 1800 to 1850 known as Romanticism was characterized by creativity, emotion and
relationships. Mary Shelley s novel Frankenstein, written in 1818, exemplifies this style of literature
in its use of imagery, tone and symbolism. By implementing a writing technique known as frame
narrative, a perspective is presented as a story within a story within another story, etc. In this
particular book, the reader is introduced to an explorer named Robert Walton, whose letters begin as
first person narration, which transition into the viewpoints of the other main characters in
Frankenstein. On his voyage to the North Pole, Walton writes letters to his sister in England that
explain his encounter with a scientist named Victor Frankenstein, who in turn tells his story of how
he created a monster. Frankenstein s creation then narrates and defends the life unwillingly thrust
upon him. Finally, a group known as the cottagers offer a different perspective of the entire matter,
which primarily focuses on the creation s interactions with society.

The most important quality in teaching is active learning. This is the process of deploying a variety
of senses to interact with a task or activity. Active learning aids independent educationby putting
the emphasis of problem solving on the learners. This is critical for the modern day learning
environment because everyone learns in different ways; it meets the learning capabilities of

Paris And Helen And The Relationship Between Hector And...
A Comparison of the Relationship between Paris and Helen and the Relationship between Hector
and Andromache
The relationship between Paris and Helen differs greatly from the relationship between Hector and
Andromache. These differences are most evident in books three and six. A major difference
between the two relationships is whether or not an outside force is pushing the relationship. In
book three lines 486 to 489, Aphrodite forces Helen to go back to the bedroom with Paris. Initially,
Helen does not want to go stating that it would be disgraceful to share that coward s bed once
more (, 476). Helen very clearly does not want to go back and be with Paris, but cannot go against
Aphrodite s wishes which is shown as she [goes] along, in silence (, 488). Hector, on the other hand,
makes the choice to go back and see his wife in book six. Unlike Helen going along is silence,
Andromache came running up to meet him (V, 466). Andromache s eagerness, as shown by her
running, supports the idea that her relationship with Hector is not forced. This is a huge
difference from Helen s reluctance of being with Paris due to it being forced by Aphrodite.
There is also a huge difference between the relationships in whether or not one wishes their
partner were dead. In book three, when Helen sees Paris back to the war she is disgusted to see
him back and not fighting as shown by her saying, Oh would to god you d died there, brought
down by that great soldier, my husband long ago (, 500 501). Not only does she say she wishes he
would ve died she also brings up that her previous husband, Menelaus, would have killed him.
Later, in line 510, she reiterates a similar statement saying that Menelaus would impale Paris
with his spear. Helen s wishes of Menelaus killing Paris is a sharp contrast to how Andromache
reacts after Hector returns home. Andromache begs Hector to stay with her and pleads in book 6
line 511 to think about how her son will be an orphan and she will be a widow if he dies. Even
the thought of Hector dying and leaving her alone made her act like a madwoman (V, 460).
Andromache differs greatly from Helen here in the way that she so desperately wants Hector to
live while Helen seemingly wants Paris dead.

they are mentoring. The PAL visits each of these students once per week for 30 minutes during
the school day. Each week has a theme that the activity must follow. Some of the weekly themes
include math, reading, crafts, and technology. The PAL plans a new activity for each week to

Statuses
The role we play in society can help influence and define who someone us. These statuses refer to
of the full range of socially defined positions within a large group or society, from the lowest to
the higher. (Schaefer, 2014, p. 106 ) Statuses can either come during birth or can be acquired later
in life. Someone might wear several hats in life, but their main status can be the indicator of who is
this particular person. Our statuses don t define us, but they are an part of us.
According to R.T. Schaefer in his textbook Sociology: a brief introduction (11th ed.), Sociologists
view some statuses as ascribed and others as achieved. (Schaefer, 2014, p. 106 ) Factors you can
t control are related to the social position of ascribed status. These statuses are received at birth
and will stay with you until death, a few of these are your racial background, age, and gender. Also,
other traits you can t control like a parent or a spouse dying would go under ascribed status. The

To what extent has international soccer influenced the world politically and socially? This research
question will be investigated using different books pertaining to the subject. The investigation will
cover the impacts of soccer in the 1930s during the First World War, the 1940s during the Second
World War and the 1970s during the Cold War
. The effect of soccer on a country s nationalism will
be researched as well. Soccer had a great impact on people s lives socially; it gave people hope
when in a time of need. It did not matter whether there was a war going on, or if there were
prisoners in camps, soccer was a popular activity to help people survive in the hardest of times.

not only affected nations governments but nations citizens as well. The country s fans are

to small war, there is much fighting, anger, and extreme nationalism during a soccer match. One
example of the extreme effect of a soccer match on the nation s people was in the 1936 Olympics.

Organisational structure is a system used to define a hierarchy within an organisation. It identifies
each job, its function and where it reports to within the organisation. When hiring large amounts of
staff organisation is important. Everyone in the company needs to understand their individual/team
role. It is the manager s job to keep their staff organised and motivated to getting the job done. As

Chain of Command and Employee Roles
A traditional hierarchical structure clearly defines each employee s role within the organisation and
demonstrates who that employee works for in that department/area. Furthermore, it defines the
nature of their relationship with other employees. Hierarchical organisations are often tall with
narrow spans of control, which will always get wider as you move down the structure. They are
often centralised with the most important decisions being taken by senior management.
Tall Structure Tall structures, like the one above, have many levels of hierarchy. An advantage of
this structure is that the span of control is very narrow and long therefore there are many
opportunities for promotion. However, a disadvantage of this organisational structure is that lines
of communication are long, due to many levels in the chain of command and this may mean that
messages get lost or tampered with on their way to the bottom and the firm is unresponsive to
change. Another advantage of this structure is that each manager in each level of command has
fewer staff or employees to watch over and control. This means that their job is easier as they only
have to closely manage a few people and they can keep them on the task at hand. As a result of
close management it means that the

Reflection For California History
This summer I have had the pleasure to intern for California History, an academic journal which
publishes research on the complex history of California from many different perspectives.
During the course of my internship, I have completed various projects involving analysis,
research, and writing. These projects have required me to apply all of my previous knowledge
and training, and challenged me beyond what I believed I was capable of. Through this process,
I have acquired valuable skills and experience that have helped me grow both personally and
academically. Furthermore, working with California History has allowed me to explore a possible
career option firsthand and gain clarity as to what path I may want to pursue after graduating. As
of August 18, I have completed 115 hours of internship experience. While California History does
not have an official posted mission statement, the various descriptions of the journal all highlight its
commitment to quality writing and research, innovative viewpoints, and a desire to spread
valuable knowledge of California s past. For instance, the about section of the California History

The twenty first century has seen its share of civil rights actions. The movements and groups

and even as far as Asia that are uninvolved but sympathetic and have given support back. When
looking back on the nineteenth and twentieth century there was the same connection between
countries even transatlantic from Britain to the United States. In a time with revolutions for social

Arm Wrestling With My Father Rhetorical Analysis
The relationship between a father and their child is tremendously salient, and will influence the life
of both the parent and the adolescent in many ways. Often, it can be difficult for someone to share
their personal relationships that they had with their father, as it can be a very delicate subject.
Despite this, renowned authors Brad Manning and Sandra Cisneros are two people who chose to
write about their unique experiences and childhoods that they shared with their fathers. Both Brad
and Sandra felt their childhood relationships with their fathers were unorthodox. This was explicitly
outlined in Brad s freshman composition paper titled Arm Wrestling With My Father and Sandra s
magazine article titled Only Daughter. Through varying rhetorical strategies, the authors purpose
and audience is clearly portrayed in both selections. One of the most important components to any
piece of writingis the intended audience. In Arm Wrestling With My Father, Manning s intended
audience is anyone who may have had an abnormal or physical relationship with their father. He
wanted his paper to be read by individuals that grew up with a lack of emotional love and an
abundance of physical contact with their fathers. Although there was love between Manning and
his father, it was clear that neither party wanted to acknowledge it. He wrote this in his freshman
composition course at Harvard, knowing that although it was going to his professors, it was meant

The Dawes General Allotment Act Essay
The Dawes General Allotment Act was made to create the great symbol of the United States just
hours after the Declaration of Independence was written. Benjamin Franklin, John Adams and
Thomas Jefferson began preparing to a one of a kind, national seal. The seal went through three
stages of designs in early 1782 before the fourth was chosen in 1782. A second and third
committee made designs for the seal along with Charles Thompson. The first three designs played
a part in the fourth design that combined the three. Charles Thompson created the fourth design
and it was approved by congress on June 20, 1782. The Seal represents sovereignty for America.
The seal s design is used as our national coats of arms and is used to decorate on our military

Family Systems Theory is a theory of human behavior that views the family as an emotional unit
and uses systems thinking to describe the complex interactions in the unit (Kerr, 2000). This paper

If anxiety levels rise in these problems, psychiatric, medical, or social dysfunction may develop
(Kerr, 2000). In impairment of one or more children problems, according to Kerr (2000), the
spouses focus their anxieties on one or more of their children and the children focus their anxiety on
them which can ultimately impair school performance, social relationships, and even health (Kerr,
2000). In emotional distance problems, according to Kerr (2000), people distances themselves from
others to reduce the intensity of the relationship, but risk isolation from each other. The fourth
concept of this theory is the family projection process. This concept describes the primary way
parents transmit their emotional problems to a child (Kerr, 2000). This process can impair the
functioning of one or more children and can increase their clinical symptoms. Some problems that
children inherit from their parents include the need for attention and approval; difficulty dealing
with expectations; the tendency to blame oneself or others; feeling responsible for the happiness of
others or that others are responsible for one s own happiness; and acting impulsively to relieve the
anxiety of the moment rather than tolerating anxiety and acting thoughtfully (Kerr, 2000). Parents
have different roles in this process: mothers are the primary caretakers and experience more

Elizabeth Cady Stanton s Declaration Of Sentiments And...
A Call to Women, a Call to All Elizabeth Cady Stanton fought tirelessly against inequality between
men and women, an issue that still plagues this nation. From her first address to her last, Elizabeth
was the voice of the women s rights movement. She lectured across the nation and publically
debated the unjust laws of her day ( Elizabeth Cady Stanton... ). Two of her more prominent and
potent speeches were Declaration of Sentimentsand Resolutions and Solitude of Self . These
speeches served as her introduction and adieu as an overt promoter of women s rights ( The
Women s Rights... ) (Hogan). Though Stanton gave both her Declaration of Sentiments and
Resolutions and Solitude of Self in support of women s rights, due to the differing audiences
addressed, the speeches vary in structure, overall message, appeal, and use of rhetorical devices.
Stanton orates A Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions on July 19, 1848, at the Seneca Falls
convention, to a crowd consisting of mostly females. This marks the first gathering devoted to the
women s rights movement ( The Women s Rights... ). Stanton models her speech after the
Declaration of Independence (Appleby 74 77). She reflects the structure by beginning with a
preamble followed by a declaration of natural rights. She then lists man s grievances against women
in the same fashion that the nation s forefathers listed the king s mistreatments against the colonies.
She concludes with their, the women s rights movement s,

The Innate Immune System
In the initial phase of an infection, the innate immune system generates a rapid inflammatory
response that blocks the growth and dissemination of the infectious agent. This response is
followed, in vertebrates, by the development of an acquired immune response in which highly
specific B and T cell receptors recognize the pathogen and induce responses that lead to its
elimination (Janeway, Jr. et al., 2002). The antigen receptors of the acquired immune systemare well
characterized. They consist of many structurally similar molecules with different binding
specificities created by somatic rearrangements and mutations within the binding site regions of the
B and T cellreceptor variable domains (Jung et al., 2004;Schatz et al., 2005). By contrast, the

Siamese conjoined twins; Patrick and Benjamin Binder, at his adult age of 33. They will
remember what a tough process it must ve been on the parents, and especially on their mother,
Theresa Binder after she d searched throughout the medical world to find a team that would
separate her twins while being able to preserve both of their lives. There were other surgeon teams
who told her it could not be done and that one of her sons would have to die, which is a thought
that she could not even bare. Luckily, she d discovered the John Hopkins Team and met Ben Carson
who was one of the neurosurgeons there and was able to separate her twin boys keeping both of
them alive. / Moreover, they will think of the young man who was encouraged by his motherto work
hard in school and read for a quality education and the opportunity for him to achieve his all time
dream which at his young age was to become a doctor, though he was not very sure what kind.
Ben Carson, known as Dr. Carson today was born in Detroit, Michigan, on September 18, 1951.
The second son of Sonya and Robert Solomon Carson, he d grown up in the hard climate of the
inner city Detroit. Ben had gone through a lot of struggles as a child, which of course have made
him stronger and smarter based on his success today. For instance, when he was eight years old

The Factors Of Christianity And Christianity In The Roman...
Christianity did not spread very quickly initially, but in the 2nd century it spread like a wildfire.
The spread of the religion was rapid and was due to many factors. Christianity spread due to its
universality, its familiarity to the Roman people, and the fact that it gave people hope. Christianity
gave something to the people of the Roman Empirethat they had never experienced before.
Although Jesus was dead, his teachings were still very much alive and thriving within his followers.
This is evident in Christianitys expansion throughout the Roman Empire.
Christianity was a religion for everyone, where no one was excluded. Throughout the Roman
Empire, many mystery cults existed. Unlike Christianity, many of these religions were exclusive
to only men or women, keeping some people out while including the others. Mithraism was one
that was only open to men, while the cult of Isis was a religion exclusive to women. Christianity
was completely inclusive. It was for the rich, the poor, the slaves, the men, and the women. A
peasant had just as much place in Christianity as an aristocrat. Spiritual equality was a reality in
Christianity. It had previously been believed that only Jewish people could join Christianity, but
Paul of Tarsus changed that by sharing his beliefs. Paul of Tarsus, also called the second founder of
Christianity, believed that gentiles should be given the opportunity to be a part of Christianity too.
In the Roman Empire there were not many choices of

The Roles Of The Wampanoag, And The Iroquois And Iroquois
Before the American Revolution, Native Americans created diverse and complex societies and
organized them around common principles. Relationships to land and leadership played important
roles in structuring Native life, but served unique functions in each community. For both the
Iroquois and Wampanoag, their relationships to land embodied their lifeways; their land was their
identity, their resource, their claim to power and sovereignty, and more. While the Iroquoisvested
leadershippowers in the institution of the Great League of Peace, the Wampanoag depended on the
leadership of powerful sachems such as Massasoit and Metacomet. However, both the Iroquois and
Wampanoag used leadership in their tribes to preserve peace to a degree and protect their
sovereignty when dealing with Europeans and other Natives. Despite their similarities and
differences, the Wampanoag and Iroquois distinctively used their relationships to land and
leadership to protect their interests. The Iroquois of New York and Ontario viewed their land as
entwined with their identity. The Iroquoian nations had a special relationship to their land, as they
believed divine forces formed it for them. The Iroquois Creation Story, as recorded by John
Norton, described how the Iroquois believed a female deity formed the earth for them (Calloway
50). Because the Iroquois believed in an intimate and divine relationship to their land, they
internalized the land as the basis of their identity.

Henry eventually gets his red badge of courage by getting hit in the head with a rifle. In Knowle s
novel, the symbol is the giant tree on the Devon campus. The giant tree represents fears and
obstacles of boys growing to be men. When Gene was younger the giant tree always gave him
chills, because that is where his friend Finny fell and broke his leg. Finny died because of the
broken leg. Gene visits Devon Boarding School around 15 years later. This time Gene is grown
and in his mid thirties. Gene notices the huge tree that gave him chills when he was younger.
This time when Gene saw the huge tree it seemed not as big as he expected it to be. The tree did
not bring as much chills neither. It is easy to infer that the giant tree brought a little discomfort
to him because that is where his friend broke his leg. When Gene arrived at the school he saw
the giant tree and said This was the tree, and it seemed to me standing there to resemble those
men, the giants of your childhood, whom you encounter years later and find that they are not
merely smaller in relation to your growth, but that they are absolutely smaller, shrunken by age.
In this double demotion the old giants have become pigmies while you were looking the other
way (Knowles 14). The tree represents fears and obstacles, because the giants can be scary. The
giants also can get in the way of your life. A theme from the novel is how effective memories can

Functionalism And Social Disorganization
What is functionalist? Functionalist is a type of phenomenon that creates a social order. This
also gives people some type of perpus in life and makes them want to contribute to society. Over
time this type of behavior become a pattern. Emile Durkheim was the one who came with this
theory. What is social disorganization? Social disorganization is when someone does not care
about the rules and acts a certain way. This could also be a group of people. Social disorganization

Key Characteristics Of Gentrification
Gentrification is the process of renovating and revitalizing undervalued and dilapidated residential
and commercial areas by the middle or upper class. It is driven by the notion called the rent gap .
The rent gap is the difference between current rent and potential rental income. People will invest in
these deteriorated urban areas to obtain potential rent in the future. Consequently, once new money
flows in these areas, it forces rent to surge. High rents force low income residents to relocate from
the area. This is one of the key characteristics of gentrification, the displacement of local residents.
Gentrification is driven by both private investment and government policies.

The Nation publication writes Miguel Robles DurГЎn.....makes a convincing case that among the
most useful tools are limited equity cooperatives of the kind established under New York s 1955
Limited Profit Housing Companies Act, better known as Mitchell Lama. Under these programs,
households own shares in a building, but the price at which they can sell their shares is limited for a
certain period of time, usually twenty years. These arrangements offer stability of ownership
without the skyrocketing prices that accompany real estate speculation. There are numerous
benefits of this program. Mitchell Lama Housing projects promote economic and social
integration in their communities. They have become stable and burgeoning communities. The
integral components in ensuring the success of this program are maintaining the quality of the
cooperatives and making sure housing units over time are slowly pushed to market values. As
the designated time for subsidized rent ends, the surge in rents forces some households to leave
the area. However, if there was a more gradual increase in rent prices over time, then this would
not be the case. Oversight of these cooperatives is pivotal to their success. State Sen. Jeff Klein
said that The Mitchell Lama program, I believe, was probably the greatest housing program we
ever created in New York State because it was based on a very simple premise: that various

Vietnam constantly battled for independence after it became a colony of France in the late 19th
century. After declaring their independence from the French at the end of World War II, Vietnam
became divided and started a civil war between the communist North and the democratic South.
Across the ocean, the United Statesfeared that Communism rising in the Soviet Union and China
would threaten the independence of their country; to prevent this from occurring, the United States
supported the South in the Vietnamese civil war. The attempt of the United States to protect their
freedom would prove to harm the Vietnamese in countless ways. President Dwight Eisenhower s

Assignment: How have women been portrayed through photography?
16/01/2009
How have women been portrayed through photography?
The gaze deals with how the audience views the people presented in visual culture, in this case,
adverts, magazines and Cinema. The male gaze is the male ability to exercise control over
women by representing them in visual means as passive, sexual objects of male desire. The
power of men over women has always existed. They are seen as the more powerful and clever
species. This control over women has been seen predominately in linguistics senses in past times.
It is clear that there are more derogatory terms for women than there are for men. Men can also

The characters Sherman portrays, lighting, clothing and expressions are clichГ© of what is present

Laura Mulvey understands Sherman s Untitled Film Stills as to be rehearsing this structure of the

It intrudes into moments in which she is ungraded, sometimes undressed, absorbed into her own

Islamophobi Understanding Anti-Muslim Sentiment In The West
Following the tragic events that took place on September 11, 2001 (most commonly: 9/11 ), the
FBI reported an increase in hate crimes, nearly twenty times more than the usual, against Muslim
Americans (Khan Ecklund, 2012). After 9/11, anti Islamic hate crimes against Muslims went from
being the second least reported hate crime of religious bias incidents to being the second highest
reported ( Statistics ). This drastic increase was due to Muslims being subject to unjust
discrimination in the United Statescaused by negative stereotypes, prejudice and misconceptions
which effectively became more widespread after September 11, 2001. Before 9/11, Muslims were
already being stereotyped by the rising media portrayals as being violent and intolerant... Show

Hcg Injections For Weight Loss
Title HCG injections for weight loss: Fab or fad?
Description Obesity is one of the consistent side effects associated with the urban lifestyle today. A
number of weight loss programs including HCG injections are coming up purported to cure obesity.
What is HCG and why should you know of it?
HCG injections contain the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin typically secreted by the
pregnant mother s placenta following successful conception. It is reason behind the pink bar of a
pregnancy test strip attesting successful pregnancy. HCG is being used to deal with problems
regarding conceiving babies from quite some time by medical practitioners.
When did it all start?
The revelation that HCG can burn fat started first in the 1950 s when Dr. Albert T. Simeons, an
endocrinologist from Britain started using HCG injections to treat people with obesity. One of
the probable and not yet established role of human chorionic gonadotrophin is that it burns belly
fat to provide ATP or energy for the fetus, Dr. Simeons concluded from this belief that HCG must
also facilitate a rapid burning of fat from all portions of the body at all times. But no substantial
cases of actual weight loss through only HCG injections have come up till date. In a more recent
time, Kevin Trudeau in his 2007 book claimed that HCG injections were the magic secret to quick
weight loss. The funny part is Kevin is not even remotely associated with medicine or health; he is
just another shady businessman.

Shiloh Symbolism
One such symbol is the log cabin that Leroy wants to build for Norma Jean. The log cabin is
mentioned continually throughout the story in discussions between Leroy and Norma Jean. At
first glance the log cabin seems to be just an obsession by Leroy s thinkering side (Leroy builds
numerous models during the course of the story such as a B 17 Bomber (p. 804)). However, the
log cabin actually represents Leroy and Norma Jean s marriage. Leroy wants to build the cabin for
Norma Jean while Norma Jean thinks the cabin is a stupid idea. Determinedly, Leroy states that I

Birds are used in Shiloh to describe a sense of freedom for Norma Jean but a sense of nesting for
Leroy. While Leroy wants to be at home with Norma Jean and settle down in the log cabin, a
nest, Norma Jean wants to be free and fly off like a bird would. Symbolically, the narrator is
likening the main character to birds: It (Leroy s rig) sits in the backyard like a gigantic bird that
has flown home to roost. (p. 804). Leroy s rig is an extension of him and shows that both he and
his rig are home to stay and settle with Norma Jean. However, Norma Jean has a different
association with birds. Additionally, the narrator describes that, She is picking cake crumbs
from the cellophane wrapper, like a fussy bird. (p. 812). Obviously, this relates Norma Jean to a
bird in the way she was eating the cake crumbs. Moreover, Norma Jean is specifically stated as a
fussy bird . Norma Jean has finally hit her end and wants to leave but does not know how to say
it to Leroy. Norma Jean seems fussy to Leroy but in reality she is conflicted internally and ready to
move on with her life. While birds are an important symbol in the story, the graveyard at Shiloh is
immensely important as

The Biblical creation story states that God created man in his own image (Genesis 1: 11 12). If
humans can be artificially created, then scientific achievement is reaching the realms of the
heavens and causing humans to overreach his natural boundary. if we ignore the principle belief of
the old testament, that God is the creator of all that surrounds us and is the only one capable of
creating life, then the rest of the Old Testament can t be authentic. In addition, scientists know from
experience that cutting edge technology generates pressures for its use. Consequently, it is likely
that, if genetic engineering were permitted, the technology would be utilized inappropriately, When
humans discover new advancements, we are never satisfied, we are always trying to be better. So,
if genetic engineering is used without limits and control, humans would constantly try to remove
blemishes, resulting in nothing left. Therefore, morality is based on conditions, like whether or
not the manipulation is done for the prevention of diseases? Or just to change traits into favorable
ones. Morals are decided based on the situation at hand. Therefore, it is only moral to use genetic
engineering for the prevention of diseases. It should be only used to prevent diseases because these
may be life threatening diseases and if there s anything parents can do to prevent their

While obtaining my Associate of Arts degree at Yakima Valley Community College my ultimate goal was to become a social worker. Although, towards the last quarter at YVCC I realized that I was not passionate enough to continue that career pathway. Transferring to Heritage I looked into the Business program. Now, I will be graduating with a Bachelor s in Business Administration with a concentration on Entrepreneur. During my junior year I realized I wanted to concentrate in marketing but was not completely sure, so taking a internship with the HeritageUniversitys Academic Skills Center was a great opportunity to put into place my interest for marketing. For this objective I decided to create the print literature using the classic techniques of drawing by pencil, which I did draw out for most of the structure. Some details were outside my capacity because I m not an artistic, but I used outside resources to help me express what I envisioned. Before drawing I reviewed other web pages within the Heritage University website and outside websites to get an idea of where to start. People are the customers, so I made sure to understand what people would like to know from these two departments. Their main focus is finding the resources needed to support or guide them to succeed. • 4. International Chaos Of The United Nations A number of researchers, especially realists, believe that the anarchy does exist in contemporary international politics, since there are no hierarchy of authority exists in international relations (Pease, 2008:51). International anarchy does not always mean chaos or disorder, however, it urges each state to arm itself for self defence, and it may also fraught with serious military conflict. Although the Preamble of the United Nations(UN) Charter states that one of the duties of the UN is to maintain international peace and security , it is not widely regarded as international government, which exercises its authority all over the world. Still, millions of people believe that the international organisations, especially the United Nations play crucial roles in preventing and resolving military conflict between states. In this essay, I will examine whether the international organisation, especially the United Nations contributes to prevent or dГ©tente international disputes caused wholly or partly by the elements of international anarchy , or not. Although some international organisations, even the UN, may not be recognised as world government , which eliminates international anarchy, a number of studies suggest the positive dimensions of international organisations in terms of preventing or resolving conflicts between member states effectively. Russett, John, Oneal and Davis (1998) argue that the majority of international organisations carry out functions of government ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On the day of January 14, 2010, Phoebe decided that she would no longer want to live life with six people constantly taunting so she decided to take her own life once and for all. Justice for Phoebe s death consisted of all six individuals facing criminal charges in court and serving sentences, not just legal, but life worthy. • 11. The Effects Of Electroconvulsive Therapy On Other Forms Of... INTRODUCTION I am going to be examining Electroconvulsive Therapy, which is used to treat severely depressed people, as well as other forms of psychological disorders. I m focusing only on how this therapy is used to treat major depression, because although depression is the most treatable mental illness, it is still the one we all suffer from the most. This therapy uses electrical currents to re charge the neurotransmitters in the brain, allowing these neurotransmitters to function efficiently, restoring the chemical imbalance in the Adrenal and Thyroid systems; which is often found in patients with severe depression. This therapy is better known through the media as shock therapy. Sounds scary, but it s very safe and has been proven to help save people suffering from this often unbearable, mood disorder. POPULATION People most at risk for depression are ones who have had something terrible happen to them at some point in their lives. It could be the loss of a loved one, getting fired or laid off from a job, or finding out that your husbands been lying and cheating with your good friend. Developing major depression also increases if you re a heavy drug user or alcoholic, and if someone in your family has had these same thoughts and feelings. If a family member has a mood disorder, studies show a significant increase that s over double the likely hood, of developing these distorted thoughts. Researchers also found that people between the ages of 25 44 years old ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I chose these two events because they were the most life changing, I am a better person for them. When I met my fiancГ©, I was at a horrible point in my life. When he entered my life, he helped me get back on my feet. He was there for me when I could not depend on anyone else and I am forever grateful to have met him. I also chose receiving my GED as another pivotal life event. Obtaining my GED has opened the door for me to further my education and it is something I would not have pursued if not for my fiancГ© s support. Passing the test was one of my biggest achievements, and I am very proud of my score. If not for these two major life changing events, I definitely would not be enrolled at Ashford, on my way to a Bachelor s degree. Urie Brofenbrenner proposed a theory of five overlapping ecological systems. They focus on broad, interconnected influences on human development, such as the interactions between individuals and their environment (Mossler, 2013) While examining Brofenbrenner s rings influence on me meeting my fiancГ©, John, I discovered how much society comes into play. The microsystems influence stems from the fact that we were introduced by mutual friends. Therefore, the club was endangered of being disbanded unless there was an improvement in client satisfaction. To improve client satisfaction and OCI reputation, the leaders of OCI analyzed issues within the club and proposed initiatives to turn the club in the right direction of productivity. During the process of analyzing issues within the club it was observed that the rate of predicting the sizeable case load varied due to available resources of the club along with clients expectations which resulted in the disconnect between the two. Though strongly discouraged by sergeants, captains, and medical officers, he would continually go on patrol with his platoon; any other man would never have thought to do so when given just one logical reason not to. He never faltered in treating his comrades, nor did he ever leave a man to die when there was a chance, even a slight one, at saving him. In another battle, this time on the island of Leyte, Doss darted straight into an open area alive with sniper fire to rescue a wounded man calling for help. After successfully and slowly dragging the soldier back to the retaining wall, he was told that he had been the target of a sniper during his entire rescue mission. One of the sergeants told him, Doss, we expected to see you killed any second. We couldn t shoot the sniper without killing our own men, and he had his machine gun aimed right at you. Short stories often have various underlying themes and meanings to them and can often be compared to other stories to find those same meanings. Occasionally, you need to dig deeper to find these hidden meanings. The three short stories, A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner, The Garden Party by Katherine Mansfield, and Everyday Use by Alice Walker all share some similar themes and ideas that require some digging to uncover and bring to the surface. The main analysis this essay with cover is comparing how the three stories discuss and express class and heritage, as well as how death can cause people to not only think things in a different way but also how death can open your eyes to something you never would have seen otherwise. Another thing that is potentially easily missed is how each of the individuals writing styles and backgrounds affect the ground work of the stories and how they progress. The first of the three stories is called A Rose for Emily (Faulkner, 1993). It is a story focused around Emily Grierson and the author divides the story into 5 parts or sections. The story has a narrator that goes nameless for the entirety of the story. In section one of A Rose for Emily (Faulkner, 1993) the narrator is recalling the death of Emily Grierson and how the collective group of towns folk attend the funeral, which is located in her home. Romanticism In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein Mary Shelley s Frankenstein INTRO: While the Age of Enlightenment emphasized reason and knowledge, the following literary period from 1800 to 1850 known as Romanticism was characterized by creativity, emotion and relationships. Mary Shelley s novel Frankenstein, written in 1818, exemplifies this style of literature in its use of imagery, tone and symbolism. By implementing a writing technique known as frame narrative, a perspective is presented as a story within a story within another story, etc. In this particular book, the reader is introduced to an explorer named Robert Walton, whose letters begin as first person narration, which transition into the viewpoints of the other main characters in Frankenstein. On his voyage to the North Pole, Walton writes letters to his sister in England that explain his encounter with a scientist named Victor Frankenstein, who in turn tells his story of how he created a monster. Frankenstein s creation then narrates and defends the life unwillingly thrust upon him. • 25. Paris And Helen And The Relationship Between Hector And... A Comparison of the Relationship between Paris and Helen and the Relationship between Hector and Andromache The relationship between Paris and Helen differs greatly from the relationship between Hector and Andromache. These differences are most evident in books three and six. A major difference between the two relationships is whether or not an outside force is pushing the relationship. In book three lines 486 to 489, Aphrodite forces Helen to go back to the bedroom with Paris. Initially, Helen does not want to go stating that it would be disgraceful to share that coward s bed once more (, 476). Helen very clearly does not want to go back and be with Paris, but cannot go against Aphrodite s wishes which is shown as she [goes] along, in silence (, 488). Hector, on the other hand, makes the choice to go back and see his wife in book six. Unlike Helen going along is silence, Andromache came running up to meet him (V, 466). Andromache s eagerness, as shown by her running, supports the idea that her relationship with Hector is not forced. This is a huge difference from Helen s reluctance of being with Paris due to it being forced by Aphrodite. There is also a huge difference between the relationships in whether or not one wishes their partner were dead. In book three, when Helen sees Paris back to the war she is disgusted to see him back and not fighting as shown by her saying, Oh would to god you d died there, brought down by that great soldier, my husband long ago (, 500 501). Not only does she say she wishes he would ve died she also brings up that her previous husband, Menelaus, would have killed him. Later, in line 510, she reiterates a similar statement saying that Menelaus would impale Paris with his spear. Helen s wishes of Menelaus killing Paris is a sharp contrast to how Andromache reacts after Hector returns home. Andromache begs Hector to stay with her and pleads in book 6 line 511 to think about how her son will be an orphan and she will be a widow if he dies. Even the thought of Hector dying and leaving her alone made her act like a madwoman (V, 460). Andromache differs greatly from Helen here in the way that she so desperately wants Hector to live while Helen seemingly wants Paris dead. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Chain of Command and Employee Roles A traditional hierarchical structure clearly defines each employee s role within the organisation and demonstrates who that employee works for in that department/area. Furthermore, it defines the nature of their relationship with other employees. Hierarchical organisations are often tall with narrow spans of control, which will always get wider as you move down the structure. They are often centralised with the most important decisions being taken by senior management. Tall Structure Tall structures, like the one above, have many levels of hierarchy. An advantage of this structure is that the span of control is very narrow and long therefore there are many opportunities for promotion. However, a disadvantage of this organisational structure is that lines of communication are long, due to many levels in the chain of command and this may mean that messages get lost or tampered with on their way to the bottom and the firm is unresponsive to change. Another advantage of this structure is that each manager in each level of command has fewer staff or employees to watch over and control. This means that their job is easier as they only have to closely manage a few people and they can keep them on the task at hand. As a result of close management it means that the ... • 31. Reflection For California History This summer I have had the pleasure to intern for California History, an academic journal which publishes research on the complex history of California from many different perspectives. During the course of my internship, I have completed various projects involving analysis, research, and writing. These projects have required me to apply all of my previous knowledge and training, and challenged me beyond what I believed I was capable of. Through this process, I have acquired valuable skills and experience that have helped me grow both personally and academically. Furthermore, working with California History has allowed me to explore a possible career option firsthand and gain clarity as to what path I may want to pursue after graduating. As of August 18, I have completed 115 hours of internship experience. While California History does not have an official posted mission statement, the various descriptions of the journal all highlight its commitment to quality writing and research, innovative viewpoints, and a desire to spread valuable knowledge of California s past. For instance, the about section of the California History website describes the journal as, showcasing exceptional scholarship, engaging writing, and innovative research and calls it essential for students, academics, and all others looking to understand California s past. When looking back on the nineteenth and twentieth century there was the same connection between countries even transatlantic from Britain to the United States. In a time with revolutions for social and political change and eventually war society was ripe for petitions for minority groups wanting emancipation including Women, Slaves, and Jews. • 33. Arm Wrestling With My Father Rhetorical Analysis The relationship between a father and their child is tremendously salient, and will influence the life of both the parent and the adolescent in many ways. Often, it can be difficult for someone to share their personal relationships that they had with their father, as it can be a very delicate subject. Despite this, renowned authors Brad Manning and Sandra Cisneros are two people who chose to write about their unique experiences and childhoods that they shared with their fathers. Both Brad and Sandra felt their childhood relationships with their fathers were unorthodox. This was explicitly outlined in Brad s freshman composition paper titled Arm Wrestling With My Father and Sandra s magazine article titled Only Daughter. Through varying rhetorical strategies, the authors purpose and audience is clearly portrayed in both selections. One of the most important components to any piece of writingis the intended audience. In Arm Wrestling With My Father, Manning s intended audience is anyone who may have had an abnormal or physical relationship with their father. He wanted his paper to be read by individuals that grew up with a lack of emotional love and an abundance of physical contact with their fathers. Although there was love between Manning and his father, it was clear that neither party wanted to acknowledge it. In impairment of one or more children problems, according to Kerr (2000), the spouses focus their anxieties on one or more of their children and the children focus their anxiety on them which can ultimately impair school performance, social relationships, and even health (Kerr, 2000). In emotional distance problems, according to Kerr (2000), people distances themselves from others to reduce the intensity of the relationship, but risk isolation from each other. The fourth concept of this theory is the family projection process. This concept describes the primary way parents transmit their emotional problems to a child (Kerr, 2000). This process can impair the functioning of one or more children and can increase their clinical symptoms. Some problems that children inherit from their parents include the need for attention and approval; difficulty dealing with expectations; the tendency to blame oneself or others; feeling responsible for the happiness of others or that others are responsible for one s own happiness; and acting impulsively to relieve the anxiety of the moment rather than tolerating anxiety and acting thoughtfully (Kerr, 2000). • 39. The Factors Of Christianity And Christianity In The Roman... Christianity did not spread very quickly initially, but in the 2nd century it spread like a wildfire. The spread of the religion was rapid and was due to many factors. Christianity spread due to its universality, its familiarity to the Roman people, and the fact that it gave people hope. Christianity gave something to the people of the Roman Empirethat they had never experienced before. Although Jesus was dead, his teachings were still very much alive and thriving within his followers. This is evident in Christianitys expansion throughout the Roman Empire. Christianity was a religion for everyone, where no one was excluded. Throughout the Roman Empire, many mystery cults existed. Unlike Christianity, many of these religions were exclusive to only men or women, keeping some people out while including the others. Mithraism was one that was only open to men, while the cult of Isis was a religion exclusive to women. Christianity was completely inclusive. It was for the rich, the poor, the slaves, the men, and the women. A peasant had just as much place in Christianity as an aristocrat. Spiritual equality was a reality in Christianity. It had previously been believed that only Jewish people could join Christianity, but Paul of Tarsus changed that by sharing his beliefs. While the Iroquoisvested leadershippowers in the institution of the Great League of Peace, the Wampanoag depended on the leadership of powerful sachems such as Massasoit and Metacomet. However, both the Iroquois and Wampanoag used leadership in their tribes to preserve peace to a degree and protect their sovereignty when dealing with Europeans and other Natives. Despite their similarities and differences, the Wampanoag and Iroquois distinctively used their relationships to land and leadership to protect their interests. The Iroquois of New York and Ontario viewed their land as entwined with their identity. The Iroquoian nations had a special relationship to their land, as they believed divine forces formed it for them. A number of weight loss programs including HCG injections are coming up purported to cure obesity. What is HCG and why should you know of it? HCG injections contain the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin typically secreted by the pregnant mother s placenta following successful conception. It is reason behind the pink bar of a pregnancy test strip attesting successful pregnancy. HCG is being used to deal with problems regarding conceiving babies from quite some time by medical practitioners. When did it all start? The revelation that HCG can burn fat started first in the 1950 s when Dr. Albert T. Simeons, an endocrinologist from Britain started using HCG injections to treat people with obesity. One of the probable and not yet established role of human chorionic gonadotrophin is that it burns belly fat to provide ATP or energy for the fetus, Dr. Simeons concluded from this belief that HCG must also facilitate a rapid burning of fat from all portions of the body at all times. But no substantial cases of actual weight loss through only HCG injections have come up till date. If humans can be artificially created, then scientific achievement is reaching the realms of the heavens and causing humans to overreach his natural boundary. if we ignore the principle belief of the old testament, that God is the creator of all that surrounds us and is the only one capable of creating life, then the rest of the Old Testament can t be authentic. In addition, scientists know from experience that cutting edge technology generates pressures for its use. Consequently, it is likely that, if genetic engineering were permitted, the technology would be utilized inappropriately, When humans discover new advancements, we are never satisfied, we are always trying to be better. So, if genetic engineering is used without limits and control, humans would constantly try to remove blemishes, resulting in nothing left. Therefore, morality is based on conditions, like whether or not the manipulation is done for the prevention of diseases? Or just to change traits into favorable ones. Morals are decided based on the situation at hand. Therefore, it is only moral to use genetic engineering for the prevention of diseases.
