The Virgins By Robert Herrick And His Coy Mistress By...
To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time by Robert Herrick and To His Coy Mistress by Andrew
Marvell, are two different, yet similar poems. While both are presented in Carpe Diem form, each
poem approaches seizing the day in alternative ways. Herrick s poem is a caution to young, virgin
women that they should make the most of the moment, to find love now and not wait. Marvell s poem
is directly addressing a specific person, and slowly seducing them. Eventually declaring that they
should act immediately on their urges. These two poems have similar themes, but the one constant
throughout, is time.
The speakers use imagery and metaphors to convey the effects of time and the transient prime of
youth. Herrick s poem is crafted in four stanzas using a rhyming scheme of ABAB, and is written in
four quatrains. Beginning in his first stanza, the speaker mentions of assembling young women and
telling them to grab life and live now. Herrick writes, Gather ye rosebuds while ye may / Old time is
still a flying / And this same flower that smiles today / Tomorrow will be dying (lines 1 4). The
speaker uses the images of rosebuds to symbolize youth and beauty. Once the flower peaks and
blooms, its beauty will fade. So, too, will the beauty of women as they grow older. Furthermore, in the
second stanza, the speaker sets the tone of the poem by writing, The glorious lamp of heaven, the sun /
The high he s a getting / The sooner will his race be run / And nearer he s to setting (5 8). The

Cinderella, By Charles Perrault
In Charles Perrault s Cinderella, there are many different ways he conveys goodness being a magical
thing in people s hearts. When reading it, it is easy to point out how he thinks kindness is the most
important thing it one s life. In Maria Tatar s An Introduction to Fairy Tales, she talks about fairy tales
being an escape to children. She states that there is a world of imagination in fairy tales that takes
reality and makes it exciting and adventurous. She also mentions that fairy tales help influence the
way people look at certain things and the paths they choose. Cinderella, by Charles Perrault, is a story
that inspires all kinds of people to focus on inner beauty in order to get their happily ever after.
Cinderella, by Charles Perrault is a piece of writing that seems to be an average fairy tale. The name
Cinderella is a name known throughout the world; it is known by a variation of people ranging from
kids to adults. We associate this name with the average fairy tale. When looking at this particular story
of Cinderella, it is clear that it is the story of the house maiden who ends up living happily ever after.
The main point of Cinderella is that when someone is a good person and they live a life of kindness,
good things happen to them. For example, throughout the story Perrault hints to the idea of Cinderella
being beautiful and having a good heart, Cinderella, in spite of her mean apparel, was a hundred times
more handsome than her sisters, though

Persuasive Essay On Noise Pollution
are being presented with a sense of urgency, we need to be concerned about the greenhouse gases
fireworks produce, which include Carbon dioxide (CO2) and ozone. In addition, Fireworks fallout can
contaminate water supplies and residue on the ground can be carried away by rain and end up in our
lakes, rivers, or oceans. Along with both these types of pollutions, Fireworks can be loud and the
vibrations can travel far which results in noise pollution. In the middle of the night fireworks often
disturb people trying to sleep. Fireworks can exceed 140 decibels and noise at 85 decibels or above
can damage hearing. Some people also argue the noise from fireworks scares pets and wildlife like
birds, etc.
For the color effect of fireworks, toxic heavy metals like barium, aluminum, lead, mercury salts,
antimony, copper, and strontium can be used in firework compositions. Outdated heavy metals that
have been used in the past include rubidium and cadmium. Some toxic elements are supposedly not
used in fireworks anymore like lead compounds, chlorates, and mercury as mercurous chloride
(calomel), but some firework chemical outlets still sell some of these ingredients.
Experimental Procedure
Many fireworks are imported from China which is scary because they have a proven track record of
cutting corners by using cheaper, more toxic materials. Some of the metals also have radioactive
isotopes. The American Fireworks Standards Laboratory (AFSL) has established a testing and
certification program for Chinese and U.S. fireworks to determine if they are being produced
according to AFSL Standards, which means it meets all U.S. federal requirements. Along with the
AFSL testing s, there have been many case study that prove that fireworks can be extremely harmful
to the environment. The following table shows the toxic elements of Fireworks and what it is used for.
As it is examined, it is clear to see that all the elements from the combustion reaction can be very
harmful to the environment and the living population in multiple different ways.

Slope Test Lab Report
Slope class (visual interpretation) (fig 1) shows that according to our model for the area less than or
equal to 5° is flat, so the majority of areas falls within less than 5° areas. It means that only some areas
fall within greater than 5°. The statistical information (fig 2) of slope class shows that the min. slope is
0°, max is 31.36° and the mean is 4°. Therefore, generally the majority of the slope areas are low.

Examples Of Restorative Justice
iv. Restorative Justice Application in Cases of Domestic Violence
Restorative justice (RJ), which finds its roots in African customary law practices, is one of the most
significant developments in criminal justice practice to materialise over the past two decades. Our
criminal justice system focuses primarily on legally defining a crime with an emphasis on
responsibility and accountability of the individual who may be found to have offended at the end of a
procedurally fair trial. RJ approaches involve the victim, offender and the community in a process
which aims to develop the appropriate response to the harm caused. The umbrella term of restorative
justice conferencing includes a range of different processes: victim offender mediation/conferencing,
family group conferencing, victim intervention/empowerment programmes, sentencing circles and
peace making circles. For reasons outlined later, RJ strategies in response to domestic violence have
been met with widespread objection and small pockets of support. ... Show more content on

Furthermore, the RJ approach is often viewed as a soft response as the offender is not punished. As
such, choosing familial and community forms of involvement might result in the reprivatisation of
domestic violence, which in effect leads to the silencing of women. Taking domestic violence out of
the view of the courtroom could in turn counteract the progress made by the law in combination with
feminist activism to bring domestic violence into the open arena. It goes without saying that RJ under
theorises criminal offending and is concerned with the issue of re offending, rather than with the
offence itself. Domestic violence calls for a powerful response which should combine elements of
condemnation as well as

Merchant Of Venice Character Analysis
Portia in The Merchant Of Venice, has been considered as one of the most perfectly developed female
protagonist. The heiress of Belmont represents the nexus of the play, as the quest for her hand creates
a motive for Bassanio to borrow money which initiated the bond plot and the ring plot. Furthermore
she manipulates the trial and resolves the bond episode and the ring episode. Portia is introduced in
the play as being a wealthy heiress whom many suitors try to court. Her significance and characteristic
in the play can be seen in her genuine love, her graciousness and her witty yet playful traits. She
further represents the comparison between Belmont and Venice, herself and shylock and most
importantly, love and self interest, one of the key themes in the play. Critics liked to compare Portia
with Shylock and the comparison brings out the salient traits of her character. One of them stated that
while Portia stand for everything bright, generous, and noble while Shylock represents wickedness
and evil .
The language used in the play suggests that money is a source of power and desire. The penniless
Bassanio feels inferior to Portia who is intelligent, noble and refined. Portia s speech, unlike a woman
in the Elizabethan era, seems to be heavily loaded with financial expressions. Her language reveals
how comfortable she is in the masculine, world and her unwillingness to leave it. Her speech also
demonstrates her intelligence and eloquence and seems to mock the existing social norms. Indeed
Portia has shown to be far from obedient to patriarchy. Portia s father had left a clause in his will that
the suitor will pick the correct casket to in order to marry her. Although she couldn t break the clause,
her intelligence serves her well in her pursuits of Bassanio as she manipulates the test for her own
purpose. It reveals the casket choosing event itself was a gimmick and rather Portia was controlling
the entire situation according to her will and treating her suitors as mere puppets. On the other hand,
while men around the world are vying for her attention, she is apparently considers herself as superior
and better position to judge men s masculinity. However her intolerance and hypocrisy is suggestive

AArticle On Condemn The Crime, Not The Person
In her article, Condemn the Crime, Not the Person, June Tangney argues that shaming causes more
harm than good. She focuses on alternatives to traditional sentences instead of shaming and
incarceration. As a more recent trend, officials are using shaming sentences more and more. Tangney
states that it is important to know the distinction between shame and guilt. Tangney states, that
research has shown feeling of guilt involve a sense of tension and regret over the bad thing done. Guilt
makes people feel bad. It makes them want to change their behavior whereas shame does not motivate
people to feel better and they are less likely to stop their wrong behavior (577). She also states that
scientific evidence suggested publicly shaming a person makes a problem instead of creating a
constructive change in them and individuals may hide and escape the shameful feelings and try to
blame others (577). In conclusion, Tangney suggest community service as a sentence for offenders to
pay their debt to society for their wrongdoing, been linked to the crime they did. Her tone is
informative and innovative and keeps the reader interested while reading. However, this article
displays weakness in term of the evidence the author presents, it is one sided and does not provide
evidence her suggestion for community service as a sentence option works. Therefore, it fails to
persuade the reader. Tangney s essay suggested that all minor crimes should be handled with guilt
punishments;

Poverty And Homelessness In America
Being a first generation immigrant to the United States I have seen poverty and homelessness more
than the average american. I was born in the country of Macedonia, but i m ethnically Albanian. The
average wage for a worker without some type of post secondary education in Macedonia is about 200
euros a month. For those who have some type of secondary education the wages are slightly higher,
ranging from 300 to 800 euros a month. The majority of the population makes around $1.33 per hour.
This isn t a surprising fact considering the county s GDP of only 13 billion dollars. The majority of the
land is impoverished, and jobs are strongly segregated based on ethnicity. The ethnic Macedonians

albanians who were born in macedonia he chose to do something about it. If you are born into poverty

minimum wage job here you are still making 5.45 times more money than the average person who
lives in macedonia. Another advantage is the fact th at the person is born here, they don t have to
move here to gain the economic opportunity like my grandfather. Poverty and homelessness in

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing
Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing or OFDM is a modulation format that is being used for
many of the latest wireless and telecommunications standards.
OFDM has been adopted in the Wi Fi arena where the standards like 802.11a, 802.11n, 802.11ac and
more. It has also been chosen for the cellular telecommunications standard LTE / LTE A, and in
addition to this it has been adopted by other standards such as WiMAX and many more.
Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing has also been adopted for a number of broadcast
standards from DAB Digital Radio to the Digital Video Broadcast standards, DVB. It has also been
adopted for other broadcast systems as well including Digital Radio Mondiale used for the long
medium and short wave bands. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The resulting signal is integrated over the symbol period to regenerate the data from that carrier. The
same demodulator also demodulates the other carriers. As the carrier spacing equal to the reciprocal of
the symbol period means that they will have a whole number of cycles in the symbol period and their
contribution will sum to zero in other words there is no interference contribution.
The spectrum of an OFDM, orthogonal frequency division multiplexing signal
OFDM Spectrum
One requirement of the OFDM transmitting and receiving systems is that they must be linear. Any non
linearity will cause interference between the carriers as a result of inter modulation distortion. This
will introduce unwanted signals that would cause interference and impair the orthogonality of the
transmission.
In terms of the equipment to be used the high peak to average ratio of multi carrier systems such as
OFDM requires the RF final amplifier on the output of the transmitter to be able to handle the peaks
whilst the average power is much lower and this leads to inefficiency. In some systems the peaks are
limited. Although this introduces distortion that results in a higher level of data errors, the system can
rely on the error correction to remove them.
Data on OFDM
The data to be transmitted on an OFDM signal is spread across the carriers of the signal, each carrier
taking part of the payload. This reduces the data rate taken by each carrier. The lower data rate has

Movie Smoke Signals Essay
Movie Smoke Signals
For most of my life, the word Native American had immediately made me think of feathers,
powwows, and a society uncorrupted by civilization. However, in watching the movie Smoke Signals,
a movie that depicts the modern Native American culture, I learned many other things. For one, I
learned that many of the customs that modern Native Americans have are very similar to my own. I
also saw that the family life of the Native Americans in the film had many of the same problems that
my family had undergone in the past years. This film was unlike any that I have ever seen; therefore, it
reached me on a very personal level.

Luckily, Thomas and Victor were okay; however, Arnold s problem with alcohol does not stop with
this horrible mistake. For years he continued to drink and abuse his wife and son, Victor. When Arnold
s wife could not take it anymore, Arnold left the family and moved far away, missing most of his son s
life. My family has also had this problem. I have never been a victim of child abuse, but my father s
abuse of alcohol has impacted me in many ways. When I was about seven, I was told that my dad was
leaving because of his alcoholism. I did not understand at the time the significance of my parents
getting a divorce, but having lived ten years without my father, I feel I can relate to Victor in many
ways. My dad has missed so many important events in my life, such as making the cheerleading
squad, my first prom, and even the day I got my license. After seeing this movie I realized that even if
my dad could recover from alcoholism, it could never make up for all the years we lost together. Lives
are ruined by this terrible addiction everyday; not only the alcoholic s life, but also the lives of those
who love them.
I thought this film was very unique because it shows the true Native American perspective of
everyday life, not the usual phony stereotype of Indians such as teepees and bow and arrows. It also
showed how much Native Americans are not much different than other cultures. Instead of singling
other cultures out or judging people that are different from

Emotional Flexibility Module Analysis
Module 5 spoke of adaptive leaders and included many elements of adaptability. I found the
Emotional Flexibility concept to be the most important in the module. The concept describes one s
ability to consider their own emotions versus the emotions of others. I found emotional flexibility to
be very important because considering others emotions is key in successfully enforcing change.
Change is an exchange or give and take between the agents advocating for it, and the individuals
affected. Often times the change process is faced with many concerns and sometimes resistance due to
differences in opinions and emotions between the parties involved (leaders and followers). The
negative impact this concept would have on subordinates, peers, ... Show more content on

I will focus on active listening, while balancing when to be compassionate versus when to be firm. I
will encourage understanding the difference between empathy and sympathy, which will help us
identify how to quickly, and effectively help our people overcome negative emotions. Although we
should welcome the expression of negative feelings, we should not allow it to fester. Application of
this concept will cause subordinates to develop a higher sense of trust and loyalty to me as a leader. I
will have enabled open, effective discussions, when faced with opposing views from them. This in
turn will allow me to maneuver the unit s intent (change), while accounting for the airmen s concerns.
My peers will develop increased confidence in my competence, as they see how the application of the
concept is benefiting our airmen. This will also erase possible misunderstanding between my peers
and myself because they too, will see and feel that their emotions matter. The concept of emotional
flexibility is a great tool for productive interpersonal relationships. Hence, its application will further
develop and strengthen the relationships I have with my supervisors, enabling them to empower me to
be a change agent, or assume the role of an executor when various tasks

Swastika Movie Analysis
This view is completely wrong. The movie does not show a divided community at all. In the later part
of the movie, we see that the majority of the town residents actually supported the removal of the
swastikas from the church s design. When the church reopened after the renovation, a huge number of
people showed up to the church to celebrate the fact that the swastika had been removed. Many were
emotional about it and said that they had wanted the swastika removed from the church for a very long
time but they never said anything.
Another positive thing this movie showed was how easily the Christian and Jewish communities
cooperated about removing the swastika from the church. Officials from the church and temple Israel
campaigned together to get the swastika removed. This shows that the issues involving race and
diversity are not that divisive at all. Almost everyone agrees ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

How To Achieve Goals In Life Essay
Some people are successful because they are destined to be such. But most people are more successful
because they are determined to reach this goal. We just know what we want and how to achieve it. You
would probably have laid out your plans for your life already, and that you would exhaust all efforts
just to attain what you desire. But sometimes, we question, how come no matter how hard you try to
perfect things the way you planned it, circumstances would not allow it? You start thinking, were your
efforts not enough to achieve your goals? Or maybe it is just not meant to be? Some people may be
too controlling of their lives and get burnt out fast. When this happens, your mindset tends to shift and

Just when you think you are good, you can actually be better. Never settle for mediocre, but try
surprising yourself and reach far beyond what you can imagine. Your success in life does not rely on
fate, but it depends on the effort you put in achieving your goals in life. The quote has a similar theme
with the first two lines of the second stanza in the poem If . It is okay to dream and visualize your
goals in life. But do not let it control you without making it into reality. In life, you may experience
the highest of the highs and lowest of the lows, which will both teach you to become a better person.
Know that we all have our strengths and limitations, which defines who we are. Correlating the quote,

worth, not relying on chances or what other people dictate, but rather making your dream into reality
despite the difficulties you will face in life. You make your choice and you will be responsible for

Reflection Of Music In This Little Light Of Mine
Music is defined as the vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to produce
beauty of form, harmony, and expression of music. What truly exemplifies this definition is the
performance entitled This Little Light of Mine in which performers, Donald Craig Manuel and
Charles Lloyd Jr, took the stage to deliver a beautiful duo that s consisted of Mr. Manuel s Baritone
voice and Mr. Lloyd s performance on the piano. Mr. Donald Manuel performed twelve compositions
in which ten of them were sacred pieces that expressed how much he loved the Lord and the other four
were taken from major events he performed for such as: Festival of the Lion King at Hong Kong
Disneyland, major productions abroad the Disney Dream, and musical numbers from popular Disney
films. Even though each of these pieces were different in context they had numerous similarities such
as: all of them being polyphonic, crescendo and decrescendo were used extensively, dynamics were
used frequently, each piece was set to a walking tempo (Andante), each piece had the qualities of an
opera, and he used vibrato in all his compositions. Even though all his performed pieces were
brilliantly performed, the three compositions that stood out to me were: Ride on King Jesus by Hall
Johnson, This Little Light O Mine by John Work, and Be prepared by E. John and T. Rice. The first
piece that was performed, Ride of King Jesus, is a sacred, polyphonic piece that was performed in
Low D flat in quadruple meter.

The Pros And Cons Of Single-Sex Schools
Single Sex School
Single sex education is where education is carried out where female and male students attend classes
in separate schools or buildings. This was a common practice before the 20th century especially in
higher education or secondary education. Religion or tradition mainly advocates this type of education
(Wiseman 180). Lately, there has been an increase of interest and establishment of this kind of schools
due to research on education. My interest in single sex schools is to establish the reason why they are
formed, find out if they achieve their intended purposes as well as compare their performance on the
educational level in comparison with mixed schools. This paper is important to my potential reader as
he or she will be able to understand the different types of education systems across the world the
debates surrounding such formations the reasons behind their formation and how effective or
ineffective each model is. This paper will give a short history of single sex schools and discuss their
pros and cons. Single sex schools allow teachers to gender specific strategies that would not have
worked well in mixed gender settings, hence boosting performance, reduce distractions and
disciplinary cases, but they are effective if the resources available to each gender are comparable.
Single sex schools are motivated by religious ideas that propagate sex segregation and also believe
that different sexes behave and learn in different ways and can do better in a

The Pros And Cons Of Dual Citizenship
Dual citizenship, also known as multiple citizenship, refers to a person s citizenship status, in which a
person is concurrently regarded as a citizen of two countries. United States is one of the countries that
allow dual citizenship. Dual citizenship arises automatically in situations such as when a child is born
in the United States whereas his parents originate from a different country. For this case, the child will
be considered a citizen of the United States as well as the parent s home nation. Similarly, if a child
whom are born overseas and his/her parents are U.S. citizens, the child will naturally become a citizen
of both the U.S. and the country of birth, subjecting to the country s laws.
Conversely, dual citizenship can also be obtained via specialized legal processes. For example, this
could occur when a foreigner is married to a U.S. citizen. The foreigner is able to own a U.S.
citizenship if he/she has been a permanent resident living with his/her partner for a minimum of 3
years. In addition, to own a U.S. citizenship, one must ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, having dual citizenships can prevent one from gaining security clearance to classified
information that one may require for the job. This is so to safeguard the country s interest as the
country does not have to fear that their top classified information will be leaked to other country.
The third drawback is that the loyalty of the one who owns dual citizenship will be questioned by both
countries. The whole concept of dual citizenship tends to raise many questions about which of the dual
citizenship have a higher priority. This is especially so for the case if both countries have conflict of
interests. People whose loyalties are being divided pose a threat to the country s security as they might
cause internal conflicts within the country or leak important information to the other

in spite to the rise in my body temperature and even I have suffered with body pains that night. I was

representation of double the total number of children who immigrated to the US in similar period on
the previous years, 2012 (Greenhill). The increasing number of children immigrants into the US has
revitalized a rancorous nationwide debate regarding the US policies on immigration. President Obama
s critics have been proposing for major immigration reforms to curb the increasing number of children
immigrants into the US (Lightfoot). They argue that the situation has stretched the legal and social
services receiving the migrants which in turn incurs costs on the tax payers money. The issue of influx
of children into the US comes from Central America comes at a time when the authorities at the
southern body record a historic lowest overall detentions of undocumented immigrants.
Some people have termed the increasing influx of children into the US has been termed as a
humanitarian crisis and others referring to it as national security threat (Dart). According to, the influx
of the children is due to the increasing levels of poverty and violence especially in countries such as
Mexico that prompt children to

Battle of Guadalcanal
Some of the bloodiest fight of World War II came in the Pacific. Much of that fighting came at the
Battle of Guadalcanal. A remote island in the Solomons Island chain, Guadalcanal was not thought of
as important, prior to 1942. For several reasons, Guadalcanal was the most significant battle of the war
in the Pacific. The Battle of Guadalcanal was the first offensive the United States took in World War
II. Because of its location, Guadalcanal pushed back the Japanese defensive ring, and put the U.S. in
an aggressive mindset. As an intangible factor, the victory at Guadalcanal provided a much needed
morale boost to U.S. servicemen, who had not had a decisive triumph against the Japanese. Most
importantly, the U.S. gained control of an important airstrip on Guadalcanal that the Japanese had
been trying to utilize.
Guadalcanal was the first American offensive of World War II. American efforts in the Pacific were
heavily impeded by the Europe First strategy during World War II (Gray 317). President Roosevelt
and Prime Minister Winston Churchill both saw Europe as being more important than Asia. Nazi
Germany was viewed as the major threat to Western ideals. Neither the U.S. nor Europe feared a
Japanese invasion. The American Army would send the majority of its forces into Europe. The U.S.
Navy had some of its ships act as convoys to protect merchant ships, but most of the aircraft carriers
were in the Pacific. The United States Marine Corps (USMC) was entirely

Comparing Eva s Story, Paperclips, And The Sneetches
During the Holocaust, obstacles in many categories were a commonality shared by many people. The
Holocaust is a horrid example of evil in humans. It was one of the most important events in World War
II and killed over 11 million people, including Jews, Jehovah s Witnesses, Roma, the disabled, and
homosexuals. Obstacles and how they are overcome are everywhere in Holocaust literature and films,
including Eva s Story, The Book Thief, Paperclips, and The Sneetches. In Eva s Story, Eva and her
family attempt to overcome the obstacle of hiding from the Nazis because they are Jews. Eva and her
mother, Mutti, hid together in multiple different houses. Her father, Pappy, and her brother, Heinz, hid
together in separate houses from Eva and Mutti so they would have a lesser chance of all four of them
getting caught. At one point, Nazis searched the house Eva and her mother were staying in. Eva and
Mutti were hiding behind a faux wall in the bathroom. Eva and her family were caught while
transferring houses which led to them being taken to a Jewish concentration camp. Eva and her family
showed courage in trying to hide from the Nazis, even though they were eventually caught. ... Show

Essay On Breaking Through The Great Firewall
Breaking Through the Great Firewall of China
Within the United States, the first amendment, freedom of speech includes the cyber web. However,
the government may try to examine personal information to protect its citizens from planned
terroristic activities. Even so, these terrorists are allowed to say whatever they want, but it does not
mean it will be ignored and not taken as a literal threat by the government. Throughout other parts the
world, however, countries rely on communicating through means of the internet as ways to spread
propaganda. In countries like China specifically, their government censors its citizens to prevent the
spreading of propaganda or other radicalism. However, due to the fact that China s strategy is so ...

This proves that China, at all costs, censors its citizens from accessing history the government deems
potentially causing further protest.
Now, many Chinese citizens are attempting to access these applications and searches without
censorship by connect[ing] to virtual private networks that provide them with communications
channels to servers outside the Chinese mainland (Bradsher 4). Though, many citizens have found
loopholes in order to post their messages to these websites. For example, on Weibo (the Chinese
version of twitter), if a user were to post using a specific keyword, the post would automatically be
deleted, if not manually by a superior on the site if it slipped through the system. However, because
the use of abbreviations, neologisms, homophones, and homographs by users, many political satirists,
revolutionists, or regular citizens find themselves sliding through the cracks thus escaping the
censoring governments reach (Wang and Mark 5). In addition, because the government also changes
from time to time, a man named Yu Jia, a government critic stated that Today s China is very different
from Chairman Mao s China. I think then, it used to be like an iron slab, and there was only really one
idea. It was completely impermeable. But now, it s more like a fishnet, and there are holes (Jia, Han

A Separation of Church and State Ensures our Individual...
Religion has no place in politics, therefore, church and state must remain separate if we are to preserve
our individual freedoms. The United States of America is a land of great diversity and a nation built on
equality. In order to explore religion and politics in America, we must first begin with our country s
roots in 17th century Europe. At the time there was heavy conflict, over religion, involving the
Catholics and the Protestants of England. They were two different religions, but they shared a
common belief. Both shared the principle that there should be one religion, everyone should be forced
to follow it, and that government should enforce it. Therein lay the problem, how can there be only
one religion when there are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some states even had official state supported churches. All was still not equal when it came to
religion. So how then were we any different than England? We were no different, pure and simple.
The right to to worship as you choose was lacking, and the religious persecution had followed our
citizens across the pond .
Religion was such a hot button that a person could be executed for following the wrong one,
depending on your geographical location in the colonies. Violence was not in short supply, as religious
differences led to much bloodshed. Definitely not the sunshine lollipops and rainbows version of our
nation s history, as it is painted for us in primary school. In New York City, on July 12, 1871, violence
erupted between Catholics and Protestants. It lead to the death of 62 colonists, and another 100 were
injured. Theses riots, the Orange Riots, were a prime example of how little progress we had made
toward religious freedom in the colonies. What subject could lead to such violence? Why it was all
about the Bible in Public Schools, of course. Colonists were discriminated against, tortured and
executed all under the umbrella of religious differences. Aside from the violence, religion elicited in
colonial times, civil rights were also not what they are today. Laws were passed over the next several
decades, to prevent Catholics from owning anything, worshiping, and educating their young. We were
an intolerant group, it would seem,

During the first ten years of the reform period (1978 1988), China s GDP grew at an average rate of
around 10% per annum and its share of world trade doubled during the decade of the 1980s as well.
From the period of the early 1980s to late 1990s, contracted FDI inflow to China grew from about
US$1.5 billion a year to more than US$40 billion a year in 1999. The rate of economic growth was
even higher in the fist half of the 1990s. Since 1993, for example, the success in attracting foreign
investment made China become the second largest recipient of FDI in the world and the contracted
FDI increased to a peak of US$111 bn in that year. China was ranked the ninth largest trading nation,
by 1999. At the same year, the development of a flourishing private sector which the private firms
accounted for around 38% of services output and about 20% of industrial output. This gives the
prosperity rising, especially in the costal region.

FDI is an important element in China s reform and economic growth, though it is not easy to say the
relationship between FDI inflow and the growth empirically. It is widely believed FDI not only brings
technological progress, but also having impact on industrial organization, technology transfers and the
diffusion of knowledge. It influences on the market structure and competition in host economies as
well. In China, there is

The Fight For African American Independence
In this episode we learned about the struggle for Africa s independence. The fight for colonial
independence was much more complex than appeared on the surface. The Africans wanted their land
back and the colonists wanted to keep their newly acquired land, but it was not that simple or easy.
Once the Africans got their independence they could not be separated from their home countries.
Intricate ties between the colonies and home countries they could not be so easily broken. This
element in my opinion is one of the reasons the fight for freedom in Africa lasted so long.
I never realized just how many hundreds of thousands of Africans were drafted during WWII. In
addition, I never realized how much hope they were filled with when the Atlantic Charter was passed.
Hope that came when hearing that within it, it said that each person has a right and the everyone
should be respected. However, when peace came, nothing seemed to be different ... Show more

Portugal hung on to their rule even after other colonies began to be liberated. The liberation wars were
long and painful for both sides. Some Africans thought they would never be independent and always
be bound by the colonies. When they finally stood up and formed an army to fight back, they insisted
that they were not a political army ; instead that they were instruments for independence, armed
militants and how after they achieved their goal they would go back to cultivating the soil. Portugal
did multiple horrible acts including assassinating their leader at the time. However, their worse act
was when they wiped out an entire village during the war, and even today only grim remains remain
where the village once stood. Then after all of that they stayed behind to help. I feel like its crazy that

What Are The Core Values In Beowulf
When first reading Beowulf, or even before that, many people often cringe at the idea of having to
analyze, process, and understand Old English stories from the Anglo Saxon period. Along with the
frustrations of comprehending just a sentence, sometimes the deeper meanings and overall image of
the story can get lost. In the case of Beowulf , this story is no exception. However, not only is this
Anglo Saxon story a heroic tale of a brave warrior who fights evil, but in reading the tales of Beowulf,
it gives us a way to compare our own lifestyle and core values, to those of the warriors and people of
that area.
In our modern world, we associate warriors to be a variety of people who face challenges that far
exceed those of the average human. Who have to face their fears and, to some extent, the possibility of
losing their lives. To us humans, not only are these the (courageous) criterias of being a warrior, but
we also expect them to be humble, selfless, and not to be arrogant or boastful about their
achievements. Yet unlike our society today, however, cultural traditions and expectations from society
back in the Anglo Saxon period were quite different, if not the opposite, in the ways warriors acted
and held themselves in society.
After first being introduced to Beowulf and his men, many readers would probably agree with the fact
of being surprised by their appearance and first impressions when they came to Denmark. For starters,
the idea of Beowulf and his fellow warriors

The International Commercial Arbitration Process
The International Commercial Arbitration process is a means whereby disputes related to businesses
involving transnational parties are resolved by using arbitrators instead of taking the matter through a
judicial system in the courts. The arbitration process requires that there is an agreement between the
parties involvd. This agreement is brought forward by an agreement clause that is usually found in the
business contract agreement and decision made is binding (Moses M 2012). According to
UNCITRAL, arbitration is an internationally recognized process. A commercial arbitration is one that
deals with matters arising as a result of relationships caused by commercial nature regardless of
whether it is contractual or not.
This arbitration process is preferred by many due to various reasons; the litigation in a court that is
foreign is times very expensive ,time consuming and can lead to the development of adversarial
relationships between the parties, the arbitration awards by the tribunal are recognized internationally
for about 140 countries worldwide abide to the terms of Convention on Recognition and enforcement
of Foreign Arbitral Awards of 1958 also known as the New York convention and the arbitration panel
is composed of arbitrators who are chosen by the parties involved. The arbitration is also a highly
confidential process with the arbitral awards issued being final and binding hence leaving no chance
for appeals ( Bennett S 2002).

Shark Attack Scenarios
Have you ever been in a dangerous life or death situation? It may not have been life or death, but even
just going camping you have to make a fire and build shelter to survive. These three people were in a
life or death situation and used their unique characteristics to survive. In the news interview Young
Girl Tells Tale of Shark Attack , Bethany Hamilton talks about the incident where her arm bit off by a
shark. Also, in a seminar given by Hyeonseo Lee, My Escape from North Korea she tells the story of
how she and her family escaped from punishment in their home country. Lastly, Aron Ralston wrote in
his article Trapped about how he got stuck under a rock while climbing for six days. As shown in the
three aforementioned articles, these people have calmness, courage, and determination which allowed
them to survive their situations.
Bethany Hamilton had amazing calmness which helped her survive the incident where the shark bit
off her arm. In paragraph nine of the news interview she says I think I figured out that, like if I
panicked then things wouldn t go as good as if I was calm. Even after going through something as
traumatic as a shark attack, she still is able to keep herself level headed. If she hadn t been able to keep

Genetic Relatedness Between Modern Humans And Neandertals...
a. Provide a brief summary of what we know about the genetic relatedness between modern humans,
neandertals and chimpanzees
Neandertals are similar to humans across most of the genome. They are about as similar as two
humans are to each other. However, in some parts of the Neandertal genome Neandertals had more in
common with chimpanzees than with humans. This shows that humans went through many changes to
make them different than chimps. According to Svante Paabo, Neandertals contributed very little to
the genetic makeup of modern humans. Researchers think that people who are lactose intolerant may
have inherited this gene from the Neandertals. FOXP2 gene is the gene that is associated with speech
in humans. Researchers found that it was also a gene in Neandertals. This could mean that Neandertals
could speak. Humans and chimps are only 1% different.

functional differences?

d. How might a gene that controls chewing influence the size of our brains?
In humans we have a genetic glitch (missing two letters) in the muscle making gene that controls
chewing. It only allows us to chew with the fraction of force that an ape does. Humans and chimps
have several independent bone plates in our skulls that let our heads get bigger as we grow. The jaw
muscle pulls against these plates. In an ape the forces can be enormous. All of this power forces an ape
s skull plates to fuse together at an early age, putting limits on how much the brain can grow. In an
human the plates remain open for growth until about age 30. This allows us to make space for our
brain to grow.
e. What did studies on individuals with microcephaly tell us about the genes involved in brain growth?
How do these genes compare in humans and

The Practice of Code Switching
In a multilingual or bilingual environment, use of code switching is a common practice. This research
aims at finding the attitude of students towards code switching on daily conversation. Nipel (2006)
investigates social culture linguistics where students frequently use code switching a lot as not to
break a conversation that they are participating in. Therefore, code switching is always used by
students who are from the same area and speak the same language. The definition of code switching
has been suggested by many researchers in the past. For example, Wardhaugh (2006) in his book
defined code switching as switching from one code to another in order to create a new code. In other
words, it is defined as a form of identity marker for a group of speakers who use more than one
language. Moreover, Myers Scotton (2006) defined code switching as the use of two different
language types in a single or same conversation. Therefore, code switching is the collocation within
the same conversation between two people who use different grammatical systems while participating
in the conversation. Code Switching occurs when two languages are used in one interaction session
between two bilingual speakers (Young, 2014). Code Switching is mostly used in cases where there is
maintenance of two codes in one language used for communication (Olugbara, 2008). In this literature
study, occurrence of code switching among students is evident in the context of the classroom with
students from

to kill Abe Lincoln. First of all, John Wilkes Booth witnessed John Brown s execution. Booth saw that
in John Brown s actions, he almost made his dream come true. John Brown s actions were violent and
Booth was inspired by him. Booth thought that if he did the same, his dream might have came true as

the significance of a person. In a society where individuals are simply numbers that are scanned and

The Buddha, The Dharma, And The Sangha
Starting out in the Indian subcontinent, Buddhism grew to be a dominant religion that spread
throughout Asia. Buddhism is rooted in the three elements known as the Three Jewels : the Buddha,
the Dharma, and the Sangha. Through these elements, followers practice meditation and self control in
order to reach the state of enlightenment, or nirvana. The religion was pioneered by The Buddha,
whose last reincarnation was named Siddhartha in Nepal around 600 B.C.E. He was a human who
transcended to a state of enlightenment, understanding and practicing the three elements of Buddhism.
Unlike the main figure in many other world religions, Buddha did not deem himself God or a prophet,
but just a regular man who learned the teachings of nonviolence, inner peace, and balance. Siddhartha
was born as a prince and lived a lavish life growing up. However he eventually realized that his life
would not be fulfilled by material belongings, and abdicated his position. Siddhartha went on to study
meditation and yoga, eventually reaching enlightenment. The pervasiveness and inevitability of
suffering in human life was a main topic contemplated by Buddha throughout his life. The sources of
suffering are key in the path to enlightenment, and Buddha realized this in his quest to enlightenment
as well. These topics, among other core teachings of Buddhism, are substantiated and outlined by the
experiences of the last Buddha.
One of the most core topics explored by Buddhism, the pervasiveness and

Importance Of The Depth Of Field
What if we end up in an area that has an abundance of distracting elements and we are unable to find a
vantage point to obscure these items through composition? If are fortunate enough to be in possession
of a telephoto lens, perhaps a 70 200mm, we can adjust the aperture to a small f/number such as f/2.8
or f/4.0 and use the lens near the 200mm end of its range and with the narrow depth of field make
these distractions disappear as soft out of focus colors and shapes. Thereby placing more emphasis on
our subject.

As I stood and surveyed the scene, I observed people of all ages, walking, jogging and cycling along
through here. Some even stopping for a bit to enjoy the view.
And with the use of depth of field, I could tell this story. I had my 24 70mm lens already mounted
from earlier usage on this day and I set up my tripod and camera in such a way to frame with two
posts anchoring the edges of my frame. With it being afternoon, the sun would be backlighting the
leaves from camera left, causing them to glow, and slivers of dappled light would play across the
decking of the bridge. This was foreground interest that gave context to my location and photograph. I
chose a focus point based on using what is known as Hyperlocal Distance. Which in the simplest
terms possible means that for any given focal length and aperture, there is a distance that when
focused at will see the entire scene rendered acceptably sharp.
Having my smartphone with me, I looked up what the Hyperlocal Distance for the 32mm focal length
that my framing choice and aperture of f/8 dictated from online charts readily available to determine
Hyperlocal Distance. The charts cover both full frame and crop sensor cameras and numerous focal
lengths and after checking the data for my crop sensor camera, I selected to focus at 25 feet and than

  • 4. The Virgins By Robert Herrick And His Coy Mistress By... To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time by Robert Herrick and To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell, are two different, yet similar poems. While both are presented in Carpe Diem form, each poem approaches seizing the day in alternative ways. Herrick s poem is a caution to young, virgin women that they should make the most of the moment, to find love now and not wait. Marvell s poem is directly addressing a specific person, and slowly seducing them. Eventually declaring that they should act immediately on their urges. These two poems have similar themes, but the one constant throughout, is time. The speakers use imagery and metaphors to convey the effects of time and the transient prime of youth. Herrick s poem is crafted in four stanzas using a rhyming scheme of ABAB, and is written in four quatrains. Beginning in his first stanza, the speaker mentions of assembling young women and telling them to grab life and live now. Herrick writes, Gather ye rosebuds while ye may / Old time is still a flying / And this same flower that smiles today / Tomorrow will be dying (lines 1 4). The speaker uses the images of rosebuds to symbolize youth and beauty. Once the flower peaks and blooms, its beauty will fade. So, too, will the beauty of women as they grow older. Furthermore, in the second stanza, the speaker sets the tone of the poem by writing, The glorious lamp of heaven, the sun / The high he s a getting / The sooner will his race be run / And nearer he s to setting (5 8). • 6. Persuasive Essay On Noise Pollution are being presented with a sense of urgency, we need to be concerned about the greenhouse gases fireworks produce, which include Carbon dioxide (CO2) and ozone. In addition, Fireworks fallout can contaminate water supplies and residue on the ground can be carried away by rain and end up in our lakes, rivers, or oceans. Along with both these types of pollutions, Fireworks can be loud and the vibrations can travel far which results in noise pollution. In the middle of the night fireworks often disturb people trying to sleep. Fireworks can exceed 140 decibels and noise at 85 decibels or above can damage hearing. Some people also argue the noise from fireworks scares pets and wildlife like birds, etc. For the color effect of fireworks, toxic heavy metals like barium, aluminum, lead, mercury salts, antimony, copper, and strontium can be used in firework compositions. Outdated heavy metals that have been used in the past include rubidium and cadmium. Some toxic elements are supposedly not used in fireworks anymore like lead compounds, chlorates, and mercury as mercurous chloride (calomel), but some firework chemical outlets still sell some of these ingredients. Experimental Procedure Many fireworks are imported from China which is scary because they have a proven track record of cutting corners by using cheaper, more toxic materials. Some of the metals also have radioactive isotopes. The American Fireworks Standards Laboratory (AFSL) has established a testing and certification program for Chinese and U.S. fireworks to determine if they are being produced according to AFSL Standards, which means it meets all U.S. federal requirements. Along with the AFSL testing s, there have been many case study that prove that fireworks can be extremely harmful to the environment. The following table shows the toxic elements of Fireworks and what it is used for. As it is examined, it is clear to see that all the elements from the combustion reaction can be very harmful to the environment and the living population in multiple different ways. • 8. Examples Of Restorative Justice iv. Restorative Justice Application in Cases of Domestic Violence Restorative justice (RJ), which finds its roots in African customary law practices, is one of the most significant developments in criminal justice practice to materialise over the past two decades. Our criminal justice system focuses primarily on legally defining a crime with an emphasis on responsibility and accountability of the individual who may be found to have offended at the end of a procedurally fair trial. RJ approaches involve the victim, offender and the community in a process which aims to develop the appropriate response to the harm caused. The umbrella term of restorative justice conferencing includes a range of different processes: victim offender mediation/conferencing, family group conferencing, victim intervention/empowerment programmes, sentencing circles and peace making circles. For reasons outlined later, RJ strategies in response to domestic violence have been met with widespread objection and small pockets of support. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, the RJ approach is often viewed as a soft response as the offender is not punished. As such, choosing familial and community forms of involvement might result in the reprivatisation of domestic violence, which in effect leads to the silencing of women. Taking domestic violence out of the view of the courtroom could in turn counteract the progress made by the law in combination with feminist activism to bring domestic violence into the open arena. It goes without saying that RJ under theorises criminal offending and is concerned with the issue of re offending, rather than with the offence itself. Domestic violence calls for a powerful response which should combine elements of condemnation as well as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Merchant Of Venice Character Analysis Portia in The Merchant Of Venice, has been considered as one of the most perfectly developed female protagonist. The heiress of Belmont represents the nexus of the play, as the quest for her hand creates a motive for Bassanio to borrow money which initiated the bond plot and the ring plot. Furthermore she manipulates the trial and resolves the bond episode and the ring episode. Portia is introduced in the play as being a wealthy heiress whom many suitors try to court. Her significance and characteristic in the play can be seen in her genuine love, her graciousness and her witty yet playful traits. She further represents the comparison between Belmont and Venice, herself and shylock and most importantly, love and self interest, one of the key themes in the play. Critics liked to compare Portia with Shylock and the comparison brings out the salient traits of her character. One of them stated that while Portia stand for everything bright, generous, and noble while Shylock represents wickedness and evil . The language used in the play suggests that money is a source of power and desire. The penniless Bassanio feels inferior to Portia who is intelligent, noble and refined. Portia s speech, unlike a woman in the Elizabethan era, seems to be heavily loaded with financial expressions. Her language reveals how comfortable she is in the masculine, world and her unwillingness to leave it. Her speech also demonstrates her intelligence and eloquence and seems to mock the existing social norms. Indeed Portia has shown to be far from obedient to patriarchy. Portia s father had left a clause in his will that the suitor will pick the correct casket to in order to marry her. Although she couldn t break the clause, her intelligence serves her well in her pursuits of Bassanio as she manipulates the test for her own purpose. • 10. AArticle On Condemn The Crime, Not The Person In her article, Condemn the Crime, Not the Person, June Tangney argues that shaming causes more harm than good. She focuses on alternatives to traditional sentences instead of shaming and incarceration. As a more recent trend, officials are using shaming sentences more and more. Tangney states that it is important to know the distinction between shame and guilt. Tangney states, that research has shown feeling of guilt involve a sense of tension and regret over the bad thing done. Guilt makes people feel bad. It makes them want to change their behavior whereas shame does not motivate people to feel better and they are less likely to stop their wrong behavior (577). She also states that scientific evidence suggested publicly shaming a person makes a problem instead of creating a constructive change in them and individuals may hide and escape the shameful feelings and try to blame others (577). In conclusion, Tangney suggest community service as a sentence for offenders to pay their debt to society for their wrongdoing, been linked to the crime they did. Her tone is informative and innovative and keeps the reader interested while reading. However, this article displays weakness in term of the evidence the author presents, it is one sided and does not provide evidence her suggestion for community service as a sentence option works. Therefore, it fails to persuade the reader. Tangney s essay suggested that all minor crimes should be handled with guilt punishments; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing or OFDM is a modulation format that is being used for many of the latest wireless and telecommunications standards. The resulting signal is integrated over the symbol period to regenerate the data from that carrier. The same demodulator also demodulates the other carriers. As the carrier spacing equal to the reciprocal of the symbol period means that they will have a whole number of cycles in the symbol period and their contribution will sum to zero in other words there is no interference contribution. The spectrum of an OFDM, orthogonal frequency division multiplexing signal OFDM Spectrum One requirement of the OFDM transmitting and receiving systems is that they must be linear. Any non linearity will cause interference between the carriers as a result of inter modulation distortion. This will introduce unwanted signals that would cause interference and impair the orthogonality of the transmission. In terms of the equipment to be used the high peak to average ratio of multi carrier systems such as OFDM requires the RF final amplifier on the output of the transmitter to be able to handle the peaks whilst the average power is much lower and this leads to inefficiency. In some systems the peaks are limited. Although this introduces distortion that results in a higher level of data errors, the system can rely on the error correction to remove them. Data on OFDM The data to be transmitted on an OFDM signal is spread across the carriers of the signal, each carrier taking part of the payload. This reduces the data rate taken by each carrier. However, in watching the movie Smoke Signals, a movie that depicts the modern Native American culture, I learned many other things. For one, I learned that many of the customs that modern Native Americans have are very similar to my own. I also saw that the family life of the Native Americans in the film had many of the same problems that my family had undergone in the past years. My family has also had this problem. I have never been a victim of child abuse, but my father s abuse of alcohol has impacted me in many ways. When I was about seven, I was told that my dad was leaving because of his alcoholism. My dad has missed so many important events in my life, such as making the cheerleading squad, my first prom, and even the day I got my license. After seeing this movie I realized that even if my dad could recover from alcoholism, it could never make up for all the years we lost together. Lives are ruined by this terrible addiction everyday; not only the alcoholic s life, but also the lives of those who love them. I thought this film was very unique because it shows the true Native American perspective of everyday life, not the usual phony stereotype of Indians such as teepees and bow and arrows. It also showed how much Native Americans are not much different than other cultures. Instead of singling other cultures out or judging people that are different from ... I found the Emotional Flexibility concept to be the most important in the module. The concept describes one s ability to consider their own emotions versus the emotions of others. I found emotional flexibility to be very important because considering others emotions is key in successfully enforcing change. Change is an exchange or give and take between the agents advocating for it, and the individuals affected. Often times the change process is faced with many concerns and sometimes resistance due to differences in opinions and emotions between the parties involved (leaders and followers). Application of this concept will cause subordinates to develop a higher sense of trust and loyalty to me as a leader. What truly exemplifies this definition is the performance entitled This Little Light of Mine in which performers, Donald Craig Manuel and Charles Lloyd Jr, took the stage to deliver a beautiful duo that s consisted of Mr. Manuel s Baritone voice and Mr. Lloyd s performance on the piano. Mr. Donald Manuel performed twelve compositions in which ten of them were sacred pieces that expressed how much he loved the Lord and the other four were taken from major events he performed for such as: Festival of the Lion King at Hong Kong Disneyland, major productions abroad the Disney Dream, and musical numbers from popular Disney films. Even though each of these pieces were different in context they had numerous similarities such as: all of them being polyphonic, crescendo and decrescendo were used extensively, dynamics were used frequently, each piece was set to a walking tempo (Andante), each piece had the qualities of an opera, and he used vibrato in all his compositions. Even though all his performed pieces were brilliantly performed, the three compositions that stood out to me were: Ride on King Jesus by Hall Johnson, This Little Light O Mine by John Work, and Be prepared by E. The Pros And Cons Of Dual Citizenship Dual citizenship, also known as multiple citizenship, refers to a person s citizenship status, in which a person is concurrently regarded as a citizen of two countries. United States is one of the countries that allow dual citizenship. Dual citizenship arises automatically in situations such as when a child is born in the United States whereas his parents originate from a different country. For this case, the child will be considered a citizen of the United States as well as the parent s home nation. Similarly, if a child whom are born overseas and his/her parents are U.S. citizens, the child will naturally become a citizen of both the U.S. and the country of birth, subjecting to the country s laws. Conversely, dual citizenship can also be obtained via specialized legal processes. For example, this could occur when a foreigner is married to a U.S. citizen. The foreigner is able to own a U.S. citizenship if he/she has been a permanent resident living with his/her partner for a minimum of 3 years. In addition, to own a U.S. citizenship, one must ... A remote island in the Solomons Island chain, Guadalcanal was not thought of as important, prior to 1942. For several reasons, Guadalcanal was the most significant battle of the war in the Pacific. The Battle of Guadalcanal was the first offensive the United States took in World War II. Because of its location, Guadalcanal pushed back the Japanese defensive ring, and put the U.S. in an aggressive mindset. As an intangible factor, the victory at Guadalcanal provided a much needed morale boost to U.S. servicemen, who had not had a decisive triumph against the Japanese. Most importantly, the U.S. gained control of an important airstrip on Guadalcanal that the Japanese had been trying to utilize. Guadalcanal was the first American offensive of World War II. American efforts in the Pacific were heavily impeded by the Europe First strategy during World War II (Gray 317). What Are The Core Values In Beowulf When first reading Beowulf, or even before that, many people often cringe at the idea of having to analyze, process, and understand Old English stories from the Anglo Saxon period. Along with the frustrations of comprehending just a sentence, sometimes the deeper meanings and overall image of the story can get lost. In the case of Beowulf , this story is no exception. However, not only is this Anglo Saxon story a heroic tale of a brave warrior who fights evil, but in reading the tales of Beowulf, it gives us a way to compare our own lifestyle and core values, to those of the warriors and people of that area. In our modern world, we associate warriors to be a variety of people who face challenges that far exceed those of the average human. Who have to face their fears and, to some extent, the possibility of losing their lives. To us humans, not only are these the (courageous) criterias of being a warrior, but we also expect them to be humble, selfless, and not to be arrogant or boastful about their achievements. Yet unlike our society today, however, cultural traditions and expectations from society back in the Anglo Saxon period were quite different, if not the opposite, in the ways warriors acted and held themselves in society. After first being introduced to Beowulf and his men, many readers would probably agree with the fact of being surprised by their appearance and first impressions when they came to Denmark. The International Commercial Arbitration Process The International Commercial Arbitration process is a means whereby disputes related to businesses involving transnational parties are resolved by using arbitrators instead of taking the matter through a judicial system in the courts. The arbitration process requires that there is an agreement between the parties involvd. This agreement is brought forward by an agreement clause that is usually found in the business contract agreement and decision made is binding (Moses M 2012). According to UNCITRAL, arbitration is an internationally recognized process. A commercial arbitration is one that deals with matters arising as a result of relationships caused by commercial nature regardless of whether it is contractual or not. This arbitration process is preferred by many due to various reasons; the litigation in a court that is foreign is times very expensive ,time consuming and can lead to the development of adversarial relationships between the parties, the arbitration awards by the tribunal are recognized internationally for about 140 countries worldwide abide to the terms of Convention on Recognition and enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards of 1958 also known as the New York convention and the arbitration panel is composed of arbitrators who are chosen by the parties involved. The arbitration is also a highly confidential process with the arbitral awards issued being final and binding hence leaving no chance for appeals ( Bennett S 2002). • 30. Shark Attack Scenarios Have you ever been in a dangerous life or death situation? It may not have been life or death, but even just going camping you have to make a fire and build shelter to survive. These three people were in a life or death situation and used their unique characteristics to survive. In the news interview Young Girl Tells Tale of Shark Attack , Bethany Hamilton talks about the incident where her arm bit off by a shark. Also, in a seminar given by Hyeonseo Lee, My Escape from North Korea she tells the story of how she and her family escaped from punishment in their home country. Lastly, Aron Ralston wrote in his article Trapped about how he got stuck under a rock while climbing for six days. As shown in the three aforementioned articles, these people have calmness, courage, and determination which allowed them to survive their situations. Bethany Hamilton had amazing calmness which helped her survive the incident where the shark bit off her arm. In paragraph nine of the news interview she says I think I figured out that, like if I panicked then things wouldn t go as good as if I was calm. Even after going through something as traumatic as a shark attack, she still is able to keep herself level headed. • 31. Genetic Relatedness Between Modern Humans And Neandertals... a. Provide a brief summary of what we know about the genetic relatedness between modern humans, neandertals and chimpanzees Neandertals are similar to humans across most of the genome. They are about as similar as two humans are to each other. However, in some parts of the Neandertal genome Neandertals had more in common with chimpanzees than with humans. This shows that humans went through many changes to make them different than chimps. According to Svante Paabo, Neandertals contributed very little to the genetic makeup of modern humans. Researchers think that people who are lactose intolerant may have inherited this gene from the Neandertals. FOXP2 gene is the gene that is associated with speech in humans. Researchers found that it was also a gene in Neandertals. This could mean that Neandertals could speak. Humans and chimps are only 1% different. b. In humans we have a genetic glitch (missing two letters) in the muscle making gene that controls chewing. It only allows us to chew with the fraction of force that an ape does. Humans and chimps have several independent bone plates in our skulls that let our heads get bigger as we grow. The jaw muscle pulls against these plates. In an ape the forces can be enormous. All of this power forces an ape s skull plates to fuse together at an early age, putting limits on how much the brain can grow. In an human the plates remain open for growth until about age 30. This allows us to make space for our brain to grow. e. What did studies on individuals with microcephaly tell us about the genes involved in brain growth? How do these genes compare in humans and ... • 32. The Practice of Code Switching In a multilingual or bilingual environment, use of code switching is a common practice. This research aims at finding the attitude of students towards code switching on daily conversation. Nipel (2006) investigates social culture linguistics where students frequently use code switching a lot as not to break a conversation that they are participating in. Therefore, code switching is always used by students who are from the same area and speak the same language. The definition of code switching has been suggested by many researchers in the past. For example, Wardhaugh (2006) in his book defined code switching as switching from one code to another in order to create a new code. In other words, it is defined as a form of identity marker for a group of speakers who use more than one language. Moreover, Myers Scotton (2006) defined code switching as the use of two different language types in a single or same conversation. Therefore, code switching is the collocation within the same conversation between two people who use different grammatical systems while participating in the conversation. Code Switching occurs when two languages are used in one interaction session between two bilingual speakers (Young, 2014). Code Switching is mostly used in cases where there is maintenance of two codes in one language used for communication (Olugbara, 2008). In this literature study, occurrence of code switching among students is evident in the context of the classroom with students from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Is there anything that we can be sure of? If we assume that we, as human beings continue to survive, one this is certain, some form of society will continue. Today many forms of societies exist. A society is a group of people that exist together in some form of community. All over the world at the present time many different societies exist. By using barcodes, individuality is lost and numbers replaces the significance of a person. In a society where individuals are simply numbers that are scanned and processed, the distinction between human beings and objects draws closer. The people are not people at all but things that can be moved around and commanded to suit the wants and needs to own them. • 35. The Buddha, The Dharma, And The Sangha Starting out in the Indian subcontinent, Buddhism grew to be a dominant religion that spread throughout Asia. Buddhism is rooted in the three elements known as the Three Jewels : the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha. Through these elements, followers practice meditation and self control in order to reach the state of enlightenment, or nirvana. The religion was pioneered by The Buddha, whose last reincarnation was named Siddhartha in Nepal around 600 B.C.E. He was a human who transcended to a state of enlightenment, understanding and practicing the three elements of Buddhism. Unlike the main figure in many other world religions, Buddha did not deem himself God or a prophet, but just a regular man who learned the teachings of nonviolence, inner peace, and balance. Siddhartha was born as a prince and lived a lavish life growing up. However he eventually realized that his life would not be fulfilled by material belongings, and abdicated his position. Siddhartha went on to study meditation and yoga, eventually reaching enlightenment. The pervasiveness and inevitability of suffering in human life was a main topic contemplated by Buddha throughout his life. The sources of suffering are key in the path to enlightenment, and Buddha realized this in his quest to enlightenment as well. These topics, among other core teachings of Buddhism, are substantiated and outlined by the experiences of the last Buddha. One of the most core topics explored by Buddhism, the pervasiveness and ... • 36. Importance Of The Depth Of Field What if we end up in an area that has an abundance of distracting elements and we are unable to find a vantage point to obscure these items through composition? If are fortunate enough to be in possession of a telephoto lens, perhaps a 70 200mm, we can adjust the aperture to a small f/number such as f/2.8 or f/4.0 and use the lens near the 200mm end of its range and with the narrow depth of field make these distractions disappear as soft out of focus colors and shapes. Thereby placing more emphasis on our subject. On the opposite end of the scale, what if we want a foreground element in focus along with the railroad in the background as it passes through a scene we have framed up with a desire to capture? If we should have a wide angle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As I stood and surveyed the scene, I observed people of all ages, walking, jogging and cycling along through here. Some even stopping for a bit to enjoy the view. And with the use of depth of field, I could tell this story. I had my 24 70mm lens already mounted from earlier usage on this day and I set up my tripod and camera in such a way to frame with two posts anchoring the edges of my frame. With it being afternoon, the sun would be backlighting the leaves from camera left, causing them to glow, and slivers of dappled light would play across the decking of the bridge. This was foreground interest that gave context to my location and photograph. I chose a focus point based on using what is known as Hyperlocal Distance. Which in the simplest terms possible means that for any given focal length and aperture, there is a distance that when focused at will see the entire scene rendered acceptably sharp. Having my smartphone with me, I looked up what the Hyperlocal Distance for the 32mm focal length that my framing choice and aperture of f/8 dictated from online charts readily available to determine Hyperlocal Distance. The charts cover both full frame and crop sensor cameras and numerous focal lengths and after checking the data for my crop sensor camera, I selected to focus at 25 feet and than took a test shot. The LCD preview showed I had acceptable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
