My Most Memorable Experience In My Life
My heart was pounding out of my chest as I walked through the frigid, pitch black forest alone. I
could hear was the sound of the night wind blowing against the trees, crickets chirping in the tall grass
all around me, the stream flowing peacefully on my right, and my unsteady breath, which seemed like
the loudest. I walked, step by step, along a path I could barely make out. Am I going off the trail? I
questioned myself, and kept walking through the silent forest. I was on my first, and only solo night
hike in Yellowstone, Wyoming. This was a night that I will remember forever.
Over the summer, I took a trip to Yellowstone, Wyoming with thirty eight other eighth graders and

were staying at our campsite, my friends and I were getting ready for bed and hanging out around the

almost everything which is brought up in his historical narrative. Any subject, region, or people that is
mentioned within the primary structure is a candidate for secondary structure examination. Most often

structure tangents often include their own historical narratives, geographical descriptions, and
anthropological observations. The secondary structure of The Histories almost obscures the primary
structure, making it difficult for a casual or first time reader to follow the overall narative.
So we are presented with a narrative history quite similar to a modern history but which goes off on
tangents on subjects when they first appear in the narrative (this of course includes tangents off of
tangents).
The structure of The Histories presents a problem. The secondary structure of The Histories almost
obscures the primary structure, making the book difficult to follow. We are presented with two
possibilities. Either Herodotus is not a good author or The Histories was not meant to be read as a
book. Given the oral nature of fifth century Athens the later is far more likely. Books were likely a

Women and minorities experience oppression both similarly and differently. To start, gender identity is
the root of socially assigned male and female roles in society. From the moment an individual is born
he or she is treated in accordance to their gender identity. A child s name, clothing type, group of
friends friends, and family roles are decided based off of a gender basis. As he or she enters the
working world, his or her pay scales, professions, work environments, and public restrooms are based

both feel inferior to the superior, or dominant group. Young and Dickerson (1994) argue that the idea
of sexism cannot be delineated from the effects of racism and classism. In an essay written by Chafe
(1998) regarding sex and race, he believes that sexism and racism are interlocked in three methods of
social control. This is so because the dominant culture attempts to keep women and African
Americans in their place . First off, there is physical intimidation and threats of violence against both
groups. The idea that males need to protect women suggests that women are incapable of taking care
of themselves. Second, there is domination of the economic status of both African Americans and
women by white, dominant, masculine hierarchies of power. Women must please males, either
sexually or through other services, making honest communication and mutuality impossible. When

women and minorities have a limitation to their goals and aspirations. When women challenge or
