Corruption In Health Care
So far, official and widely accepted studies try to number the impact of corruption on health care
systems in money and economic losses. Huguette Labelle, chair of Transparency International, takes
those numbers to a more understandable and accurate level by stating, The price of corruption in
health care is paid in human suffering (Transparency International, 2006, p. 37). Health care systems
are very complex constructions where corruption takes place on every level (see Figure 1). According
to Transparency International s Global Corruption Report (2006) and William D. Savedoff (2007)
public money is lost e.g. through bribes taken by governmental regulators and professionals, through
bills for medical services that never reached

Antigone As A Tragic Hero
Antigone is a tragedy by the ancient Greek playwright Sophocles, which depicts two extraordinary
cases for a tragic hero. Both Creon and Antigone are the principal characters of the play to be tragic
heroes. A tragic hero is a character who is known for being noble and has an imperfection that helps to
his or her destruction. Creon and Antigone are honorable and defective in their own particular
manners, having a comparative deplorable imperfection. The greatest golfer ever known as Tiger
Woods is portrayed as a modern day tragic hero because of his flaw of over the top pride leading to the
decimation of his profession and relationship. Tiger takes responsibility for his actions, yet it is too
late and he would has to tolerate the inevitable consequences. Antigone is portrayed as a character
who is very proud her pride is one of the elements that causes her downfall. Antigone has her mind set
on burying her brother Polyneices and she will stop at nothing until she does what will bring her great
glory. Creon remains firm on his decision, anyone who pursues to bury Polyneices, the one who
attacked the city, will be punished by death. Antigone is also described as egotistical in the way that
she reveals to her sister who won t become involved with Polyneices burial oh tell it! Tell everyone!
Think how they ll hate you when it all comes out if they learn you knew about it all the time. She
additionally spares her pride and ego as the Choragos comments Like father, like

The Importance of Sleep Essay
Sleep is an extremely interesting phenomenon in which the mind almost completely departs from the
usual realm of consciousness. It is distinguished from quiet wakefulness and a decreased ability to
react to stimuli where we become less aware of our surroundings. However, it is more easily reversed
than being in hibernation or a coma. It is a function that has been extensively researched by many.
After all, we would not have evolved a mechanism that forces us to spend one third of our lives
sleeping unless sleep did us some good. What good does it do tough? Over the years, many theories
have been proposed as to why we need sleep. The simplest is that it saves energy. An individual s
energy expenditure and demand is reduced during the day, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

A sleep deprived driver, believe it or not, is as dangerous as a drunk driver. Sleep also strengthens
learning and memory, including both motor skills and language related tasks. When you learn
something, your memory improves if you go to sleep within the next 3 hours, and it deteriorates after
a sleepless night. A good night s sleep can also improve learning the next day. When people learn a
new difficult motor task, such as a video game skill, the brain areas that are active during the learning
become reactivated during one s sleep that night. The brain replays the same patterns they had during
the day, only faster. The amount of functioning and activity in those areas during sleep predicts the
amount of improvement the next day. In learning, wakefulness and sleep play complementary roles.
Researchers have demonstrated that learning strengthens the appropriate synapses during wakefulness
and weakens other synapses during sleep. Therefore, REM sleep is crucial for organizing pieces and
the associations between them needed for forming lasting memories. Organizing these pieces within
your brain requires information gained through learning. Learning is a complicated process that is
completed subconsciously by gaining new knowledge and skills and modifying previous ones. Three
basic parts of learning include acquisition, consolidation, and recall. During acquisition, the brain
receives information and stores it within its neural circuits as memory. This

Cloning Horses
17 November 2017
Cloning Horses Cloning horses is like opening a pandora box, that s better left closed. In the years to
come cloning could become more common in the horse industry. As Ryan Bell states in the article The
Clone Age, When we clone we produce what we already have. (Bell Clone Age) Breeders must
remember; too much of a good thing is still a bad thing. So here s the question is cloning good or bad.
The first equine wasn t cloned until 2003. However, the first organism was cloned in 1928. Hans
Spemann was the first person to create a clone, he cloned a frog. The most well known clone may
have been Dolly the sheep. Dolly was born in 1996, that was the year cloning became more popular.
(Bell Clone Age)
Why clone? That s the question many breeders are asking. For breeding stock cloning could increase
amounts of offspring. A clone could manage a breeding career from a horse so it could continue to
show.Cloning could bring back beloved childhood horses or past champions. But is it worth the cost
of $160,000? (Bell Clone Age)
Many breeders are weary of cloning. Not only is cloning expensive but, according to the article Is
Cloning Horses Ethical by M. Campbell, a few breed associations (including the thoroughbred
association) don t even allow clones to be registered. These roadblocks may be the reason that
worldwide only 100 to 200 horses are cloned per year. (Campbell)
When cloning many people believe the product will be 100% the same as the original. Out of 20,000
genes only 13 are not the same as the original horse s genes. This is because the eggs needed to make
a clone are usually taken from slaughterhouse mares.(Bell Clone Age) In the article Equine Cloning
by Oliver Pynn the cloning process is explained. Mitochondrial DNA comes from the egg, and if the
egg doesn t come from the original horse the clone is only 99.99935% the same. (Pynn) In the United
States of America horse meat is not consumed. In some foreign countries horse meat is consumed. Is
cloned meat safe to eat? Many people worry about the potential health effects

Difference Between Impressionism And Impressionism
Emily Musick

English Composition

Realism and Impressionism Art has progressed in many ways throughout history; two prominent
styles however that define the evolution of art are Realism and Impressionism. Realism is defined as
treatment of forms, colors, space, etc., in such a manner as to emphasize their correspondence to
actuality or to ordinary visual experience (realism). Two artists that are well known for this style of art
are Gustave Courbet and Jean François Millet. Impressionism is defined as a style of painting
developed in the last third of the 19th century, characterized chiefly by short brushstrokes of bright
colors in immediate juxtaposition to represent the effect of light on objects (impressionism). Claude
Monet and Pierre Auguste Renoir are pioneers of defining the Impressionist movement. These artists
use a variety of techniques, perspectives, subject matter, as well as influences to create the art we see
hanging in museums today. Realism is easily identified when we analyze the works of Gustave
Courbet and Jean François Millet. 19th century French painter Courbet is even known for creating the
term Realism. Courbet aspired to find liberty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both of these art styles use similar subject matter such as landscapes and everyday life(Timmons). The
scenes are simply presented in a different way. All of the above artists use color and light to depict
shapes and give the viewer perspective yet color and light in both styles is used in an extremely
contradictory manner. Each of these art styles are meant to depict true forms of objects and how the
artist chose to interpret them is what defines each artform as a whole(Timmons). Realism is what we
see, Impressionism is how we see is how Joshua Timmons describes these movements in order to
provide a better understanding of how the artist has decided to represent the image they

The Use Of Moral Codes In The Beatitudes
Christianity, too, has a set of moral codes that its members are called to follow. The main Christian
moral code is known as the Beatitudes, spoken by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount. They
acknowledge a reward for the poor, mourning, meek, hungry, merciful, pure in heart, peacemakers,
persecuted, and insulted (Barnes, 2017). In addition to the Beatitudes, there are two greatest
commandments offered as a moral guide for Christians. These two commandments are stated in the
Gospel of Matthew: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all
your mind. This is the first commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself
(Matthew 22: 37 29). In addition to the standard moral codes, Christians also follow the Ten
Commandments, instructions inscribed on stone given to Moses by God on Mount Sinai. The Ten
Commandments, though, are aimed at combatting sin, forcing Christians to understand that sin can be
committed in more than one way: in thought, word, and deed (Barnes, 2017). Like Hinduism, moral
codes make known the responsibility that followers have to both the deity and to others. In
Christianity, moral codes are made known more obviously than in Hinduism, and are aimed at all
Christians, not based on circumstances. Every Christian is called to obey this responsibility regardless
of wealth, occupation, age, etc. Both Hindus and Christians are responsible for serving their God or
god(s) and humanity through expression of these codes and commandments. They each obey this
responsibility in various ways. Hinduism contains a wide variety of practices consisting of:
meditation, yoga, devotions, and pilgrimages (Molloy, 92). Meditation is an integral part of the Hindu
religion, it is known as when the mind is focused only on the object of concentration (Molloy, 92). A
specific way in which this can be performed is through yoga. The Hindu religion not only practices
the physical yoga that is most prevalent in the Western world, but they practice several. The most well
known yoga exercises are: Bhakti yoga, Raja yoga, Hatha yoga, and Kundalini yoga (Molloy, 92 93).
Bhakti yoga is recognized as devotion yoga, Raja yoga is best known as meditation yoga, Hatha yoga

bullying can leave drastic impacts on a vulnerable child, which would not know how to handle the

The Failure Of The Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster Essay
Executive Summary Thomas J. Watson once said, go ahead and make mistakes. Make all you can,
because that s where you will find success: on the far side of failure. Making mistakes or failures are a
part of life, as Watson puts it, it is vital to make mistakes and learn from them. Making mistakes is an
integral part of innovation. It is the ability to overcome these faults; faults allow humans to grow and
expand on the knowledge of the unknown so that in the future we are well prepared for the
unexpected. By understanding from previous failures, it stimulates innovation, new ways to approach
and triumph over obstacles. The purpose of this report is to highlight significant engineer failures over
history. Many of the disasters occurred in the latter half of the 20th and beginning of the 21st century.
Starting with the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, three aerospace related accidents, Challenger, Apollo 13,
and Mars Climate Orbiter. As well as the radiation machine, Therac 25, and the more recent
Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Each of the topics will go in depth on background information, how the
incident occurred, way it could have been prevented, and future implications, or measures taken due to
these accidents to avoid future disasters. Nothing is perfect, everything has flaws, this includes
processes and people. There is not a final approach to solve problems. Mistakes do not discriminate; it
happens at some point in one s life. One of the most critical take on mistakes is

The Role Of Women During The Era Of Tang Dynasty Of Chos ĹŽ N
The role of women has undergone numerous changes throughout the ages in South Korea, the most
palpable being those of 20th century due to industrialization. This essay aims to compare the role of
women nowadays with that of Confucian Chosŏn Dynasty and to explain how recent socio economic
changes influenced the development towards the current stratum of urban middle class housewives.
Also, it seeks to explain the stigma behind the development of this new layer of society.
Confucian Norms in Chosŏn Korea and Role of Women

This shows an extreme example of a woman who does not consider herself virtuous anymore after
being touched by a man other than her husband.
Yangban or the ruling class seemed to be following the Confucian codes of conduct more closely than
other classes. Yangban families were usually landowners; therefore yangban women would not usually
be engaged in any work outside of home. However, new Neo Confucian ideology demanded that
women stay confined at home, abiding by the adage men outside, women inside . Seclusion of female
line to women s chambers, referred to as anpang, enunciated further deepening of segregation of the
genders. Anpang, or the inner rooms of the house, were well hid from the sight from the street and
public.
The yangban status was fundamentally family oriented and the main purpose of a wife in family was
that of reproduction and serving the patrilineal family line. According to Confucian philosophy, three
obediences were required from a virtuous woman: to her father as a daughter, to her husband during
marriage and to her son once she reached old age. After marriage, women had to move to their in laws
houses and were not allowed activity outside home. Due to that, they fully engaged into their role of
wives and mothers. In order to fulfill this role, they had to be skilled in household management,
conducting ancestral rites and others. These were contained in several educational works, namely

Australian culture is one of the few that was able to evolve completely isolated from outside influence.
This did, however, give birth to many smaller cultures within the individual Indigenous tribes, as
evident from the two hundred fifty plus different languages created within and by Aboriginal culture

Heroism In Breadcrumbs And Harry Potter And The...
It is no secret that humans are a product of their surroundings. Fictional or actual, children are
susceptible to influence from all sides, their psyche constantly being moulded as new experiences
perform rapid fire assault. In the novels Breadcrumbs and Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone,
authors Anne Ursu and J.K. Rowling have added enough depth to their characters that the reader
experiences a brand new person, chock full with these experiences. The incredible 3 dimensional view
each author describes lends to each character s why ; why they go forward with their respective
adventures, why they react the way they do, why they care. Every child sees themselves as the
protagonist of their story, and heroes are universally admired. It is clear that possessing the traits of a
hero is not enough, or there would be no heroes at all heroes, especially child heroes, need to possess
something special to drive an adventure forward. Nothing makes a person or character more unique
than their individual experiences. Although Hazel and Harry are both naturally predisposed towards
selflessness and kindness, it is their respective histories of traumatic events fostering a distrust of the
adult world that places them in roles requiring acts of heroism. Hazel watches her life crumble around
her because of events predating the start of her quest, resulting in her being more guarded, more
impulsive, and having less self worth. Hazel never knew her Indian birth parents a cultural

Unraveling The Enigma Of Christopher Mccandless
Unraveling the Enigma of Christopher McCandless Throughout the novel, Into the Wild, Jon Krakauer
sincerely disentangles the haunting enigma of Chris McCandless. By tracing the places, people and
experiences intertwined in the life of McCandless, Krakauer narrates the life story of a puzzling
corpse found in a bus buried in the Alaskan frontier in a truly authentic way of storytelling. Although
Krakauer inserts direct quotes from people who McCandless came into direct contact with and experts
from primary source journals, Krakauer s own voice in the narration of the dead man s life is
trustworthy due to the similarities the protagonist and the author share. Common connections such as
similar paternal stress made outstanding impacts in both men s lives, starting at a young age.
Furthermore, a sort of agitation with the soul ailed Krakauer and McCandless fueled by a reckless
persona confined in the modern world. Lastly, a craving for human contact when in total isolation
troubled both the author and subject in their adventures narrowed in the natural world. The mutual
bond apparent to the reader between Krakauer and McCandless makes the writing in the novel sincere
enabling Krakauer to speak of a dead s man life with profound authority and truth. Unconditional
understanding through shared paternal issues, agitation of the soul, and need for human contact grants
Krakauer access to divulge into the conundrum of Chis McCandless and authority to earnestly narrate

the amount of fossil fuels you consume to heat your household water. Secondly, as tankless heaters are
typically smaller units than traditional hot water tanks, they require less metal and help reduce the

Terrorism And Its Effects On The World
Terrorism consists of different range of illegal violent activities which is aimed at intimidating and
creating fear in people. I would define terrorism as the use of unlawful violence or threat of unlawful
violence to inculcate fear; intended to coerce or to intimidate governments or societies in the pursuit
of goals that are generally political, religious, or ideological. Within this definition, there are three key
elements violence, fear, and intimidation and each element produce terror in its victims. This paper is
going to define and discuss the issue of terrorism and explain the why is it so difficult to get a specific
definition for term terrorism , while making references to some terrorist events and organization such
as the holocaust, the black September organization, the boko haram of west Africa and the al Qaeda
group.
Major historic terrorism/ Mass genocide event has been as a result of differences in political beliefs. In
most cases this involves, the left and right winged ideologies and a disagreement in the direction of
change and the speed at which the change is expected. To the left of the political spectrum we have the
Liberals and to the right the Conservatives. The Liberals consist of individuals who believe there is
room for progressive change, the Conservatives on the other hand would rather maintain the status

Much of Frankensteins loneliness has been attributed to his ugliness. A study co partnered with the
University of Chicago states, socially active, popular, and connected individuals are also healthier and

explain why Mary Shelley gave her creature a burning ambition to make Victor s life a living, flame

Review Of Genome-Wide Analysis Of Trx Family In Cotton...
Discussion
This work provides the first report on genome wide analysis and characterization of TRX family in
cotton genomes. We found that there are 150 genes in Gossypium hirsutum, 92 genes in Gossypium
arboreum and 81 genes in Gossypium Ramondii. According to domain number, GhTRX genes divided
into five subfamilies (TRX A, TRX B, TRX O, TRX ERp29 and TRX TPR_1_2).This result is in
agreement with previous study in other species such as rice, Arabidopsis and sorghum(Choi, Jeong,
Kende, 2004). In addition, the majority of TRX genes in upland cotton belonging to subfamily TRX A
and TRX B agreeing with previous studies in rice, maize, soybean and poplar (ref) this finding
suggested that these two subfamilies may be involved in diverse ... Show more content on

Depending on events, evolutionary origin of the GhTRX genes might undertake 2 evolutionary stages;
last 0.31 and 1.08 mya. Evolutionary in G. hirsutum happened after rice and Arabidopsis. There
were10 duplicated pairs in rice Thioredoxin gene family, its Evolutionary origin might undertake 3
evolutionary stages; events were ranged from 9 to 70 MYA (Ref) whereas the genome of the ancestor
of Arabidopsis underwent a duplication event about 24 40 MYA, shortly after the divergence from the
cotton ancestor. Approximately 14% of paralogous pairs remain up to date (Meyer et al., 2005). In
general duplication of GhTRX happened after OsTRX and ATTRX and the number of genes
duplicated was lower than in rice and Arabidopsis; this May be due to loss of most paralogues (Ref).
GhTRX A subfamily was largest amongst GhTRXs subfamilies; agreeing with previous study in rice,
Arabidopsis and sorghum (Chibani, Wingsle, Jacquot, Gelhaye, Rouhier, 2009). High number of TRX
A members may be due to duplication (Nuruzzaman et al., 2012), this explains multiple members of
TRX A family in G.hirsutum. GhTRX genes roles under different stresses
Six GhTRX genes were selected randomly to analyze their function in specific tissue, leaf
development stages, phytohormones and abiotic stress. In specific tissue, all genes were highly
expressed in various tissues suggesting that these genes may have crucial functions in cotton growth
and development. These results agree with previous study in

Specific Predictive Prophecies Are One Of Daniel’S...
Specific predictive prophecies are one of Daniel s distinctive elements (Rogers, The Date of Daniel:
Does it Matter?). But what is predictive prophecy? Unlike the assumptions of some, not all prophecy
foretells the future (Jackson, Principles of Bible Prophecy). It was frequently the case that prophets
would forthtell past or present events (Jackson). For a prophecy to qualify as predictive, it must meet
certain qualifications. First, the prophecy must be uttered significantly earlier than its fulfillment
(Jackson). Second, the prophecy must contain specific details, not guesswork (Jackson). And third, the
prophecy must be exactly fulfilled (Jackson). Geisler adds that legitimate predictive prophecies must
contain unusual events that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Daniel addresses these four kingdoms elsewhere in his work, and the traditional
identification of the four kingdoms is clear from a proper interpretation of those texts (Dan. 7:2 8, 17;
8:3 8, 20 22; Archer, A Survey of Old Testament Introduction, 376 78). Furthermore, Daniel does not
distinguish between the Median and Persian kingdoms (McDowell 22). His inspired interpretation of
the handwriting on the wall depicts the Persians, not the Medians, as the conquerors of Babylon (Dan.
5:28; McDowell 23). Even if Daniel was written in the second century B.C., some of his prophecies
are still predictive since Rome was not a significant world power and Christ s kingdom was not yet
established (Geisler 179; McDowell 24 25). Therefore, no logical reason exists to reject the predictive
element of Daniel s four kingdom prophecy. Another example of Daniel s predictive element comes
from the prophecies of the Grecian empire (Dan. 8:3 8, 20 22; 11:3 4). A sixth century B.C. date for
Daniel places him approximately 200 years or more before Alexander the Great began his conquests
(Elwell 1: 50). The former prophecy accurately depicts Alexander s victory over the Persian Empire
between B.C. 334 to 331 (Walton 554). The latter prophecy vividly describes the partitioning of
Alexander s mighty empire after his death (554, 560). Additionally, Josephus preserves a tradition that
records Jewish priests presented Alexander the Great with the book of Daniel

Princess Diana As A Hero
Princess Diana is considered to be the most favored member of the Royal Family in the history of the
British Monarchy (biography.com editors 1). She is the former wife of Prince Charles, and the mother
of Princes William and Harry. Her charitable work with impoverished children has formed her
reputation as a role model for the people of Britain and much of the world. Much of Diana s life has
been devoted to traveling the world to help others. Her work in Africa with the children injured by
landmines brought her into the global spotlight (Wexford 3). Princess Diana was more than just a
public figure and royal, she was a loving person who brought light to social issues and cared for those
who are destitute. A hero, as defined in Webster s Online Dictionary, is a person who a person admired
for achievements or noble qualities or one who shows great courage. However, a hero is not just a
person with outstanding achievements. A hero is a person who is philanthropic, generous, and kind.
Heros fight for those who cannot fight for themselves, and do not judge those who they are fighting
for. They are charitable in ways other than donating money, they give their time and effort in order to
make the lives of others more pleasant. Heros display bravery, as they are willing to go into a
dangerous situation to help others that have been aggrieved. Social pressures and judgements do not
affect a hero s willingness to help others, and they are willing to push through what others say

Typical of our fights, it always ends with one of us banging the door, and walking away in fury. It has
always been our way of letting the other know that we are pissed beyond the thin stretch that separates
sane from the absolutely insane phase of things. Sigh. Well, to tell the truth, I am the one who does the
banging of the door most of the time. Anyway, early this month we moved into a new house, and
perhaps it was the pressure of moving, coupled with our tendency not agreeing with things that matter

Witchcraft Trials And The Salem Witch Trials
The Salem witchcraft trials took place in colonial Massachusetts between February 1692 and May
1693. The news of witches began to spread in Salem when a group of young girls gathered together in
the kitchen of the Reverend Samuel Parris with his Indian slave named Tituba to experiment with
witchcraft. After these young girls began to portray unusual behavior the village doctor came to the
scene and diagnosed the girls to be possessed by the devil. The news of the presence of witches spread
throughout Salem like a craze and lead to a series of accusations and turmoil.
The Salem witchcraft trials were a collection of trials, hearings, accusations, imprisonments, and
executions that sought to get rid of the influence of witchcraft from the Salem population. The vast
majority of people who were accused of being witches were mostly women. These accusations had
more to do with the social status of these women rather than to seek to understand them. The first
hanging began with the death of Bridget Bishop in June and continued until September. The Salem
witchcraft trials included an example of scapegoating because Puritans feared that the devil was
continuously looking for ways to test their faith.
Today the term witch has been used in films, books, and in pop culture. In the seventieth century, an
example of a person who was considered a witch was generally someone who appeared to be involved
with the devil by portraying unexplainable behavior. In Salem, the Puritans

U.s. Dollar s World Reserve Status
Throughout the 20th century, the United States has slowly constructed a global system of control. Its
superior military, weaponry and intelligence apparatus have been crucial in this system, but an equally
important factor has been its control of the global economy, and its primary weapon, the U.S. Dollar.
The dollar s world reserve status alone does not make it unique, but its deeply rooted role in American
and global geo politics certainly does. As Vassili Fouskas and Bülent Gökay point out in their book
The New American Imperialism, Dollar hegemony has always been strategic to the future of American
global dominance, in many respects more important than America s overwhelming military power.
While military power is more visible and useful as a display, it is the dollar s role as reserve currency
that secures the domination of the U.S. in the global economic market place . [1] This system is built
on serious fault lines and its future is the most important issue for international relations today.
To understand how the dollar secures American hegemony requires some review of history. After the
Great Depression and World War II, the economic structures of the Old World powers were destroyed
and in dire need of reconstruction. Only America remained in one piece, a situation that allowed it to
decide how the new world order would work. As World War II was ending, representatives from the
Allied nations were gathered in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, where negotiations for this

Although there are many financial challenges but there are also community challenges canadian

child care. When a family that is immigrated from a foreign country for say, need to be brought up in
some sort of learning atmosphere to gain social, educational and good work habits with other children
and families in the community. Child care is one of the most stressful aspects in a families life
sometimes because it takes away the parents time to work and or study because they have to worry
about their child. It s important for a child to be in a safe and a well educational childcare that focuses
on social skills, working skills, emotional skills as well as physical skills. Those who simply can t
afford the right child care suffer because those who can t be taught these life skills are most likely not
going to succeed in life. Community challenges are frightening but so are emotional challenges.
Emotional challenges i feel families suffer with is when their child is not in the right form of child

Arson Detection : The Discovery of Flammable Liquids . In this practice , we analyzed flammable
liquids by the method of gas chromatograph . First of all , we tried to find the retention time of
standard flammable liquids to be able to identify our unknown sample comparing with their retention
times . The standards samples were : charcoal lighter , gasoline , kerosene , light fluid , shellac thinner
, and paint thinner . The retention time is calculated by the formula : We injected 5 (1)L of paint
thinner using the syringe needle into the gas chromatograph and we used the speed of 1cm/min to test
which volume could be used . However , the pick was too high and we changed the volume (2)to 1

3 . Why might there still (12)ne accelerant (13)present on materials found at the base of the fire even
though the building was almost entirely burned down ? Because a considerable portion of the fuel
remains (14)unburned and what does burn can leave characteristic burn patterns or diagnostic signs . 4
. How might one determine the physical location of the origin of the fire , so that he might know
where to look for evidence of accelerant ? By the burn/damage patterns found at the origin of the fire
it is possible to have an idea of which accelerant was used . When volatile vapors burn above a
flammable liquid accelerant they leave distinct patterns (15)unlike other combustible products usually
found in a structure . Conclusion Based on the comparison of the retention times of the standard
flammable liquids and the average of the unknown sample , we concluded that kerosene was the
accelerant used . We run this samples five times and each time we had a different peak that did not
match with the standard s peaks . So , we calculated the retention time and we found that the unknown
sample had a retention time of 0.7 (16)min and the kerosene had 0.8 (17)min as the retention time ,
which was the one more close

  • 2. Corruption In Health Care So far, official and widely accepted studies try to number the impact of corruption on health care systems in money and economic losses. Huguette Labelle, chair of Transparency International, takes those numbers to a more understandable and accurate level by stating, The price of corruption in health care is paid in human suffering (Transparency International, 2006, p. 37). Health care systems are very complex constructions where corruption takes place on every level (see Figure 1). According to Transparency International s Global Corruption Report (2006) and William D. • 3. Antigone As A Tragic Hero Antigone is a tragedy by the ancient Greek playwright Sophocles, which depicts two extraordinary cases for a tragic hero. Both Creon and Antigone are the principal characters of the play to be tragic heroes. A tragic hero is a character who is known for being noble and has an imperfection that helps to his or her destruction. Creon and Antigone are honorable and defective in their own particular manners, having a comparative deplorable imperfection. The greatest golfer ever known as Tiger Woods is portrayed as a modern day tragic hero because of his flaw of over the top pride leading to the decimation of his profession and relationship. Tiger takes responsibility for his actions, yet it is too late and he would has to tolerate the inevitable consequences. Antigone is portrayed as a character who is very proud her pride is one of the elements that causes her downfall. Antigone has her mind set on burying her brother Polyneices and she will stop at nothing until she does what will bring her great glory. Creon remains firm on his decision, anyone who pursues to bury Polyneices, the one who attacked the city, will be punished by death. Antigone is also described as egotistical in the way that she reveals to her sister who won t become involved with Polyneices burial oh tell it! Tell everyone! • 4. The Importance of Sleep Essay Sleep is an extremely interesting phenomenon in which the mind almost completely departs from the usual realm of consciousness. It is distinguished from quiet wakefulness and a decreased ability to react to stimuli where we become less aware of our surroundings. However, it is more easily reversed than being in hibernation or a coma. It is a function that has been extensively researched by many. After all, we would not have evolved a mechanism that forces us to spend one third of our lives sleeping unless sleep did us some good. What good does it do tough? Over the years, many theories have been proposed as to why we need sleep. The simplest is that it saves energy. An individual s energy expenditure and demand is reduced during the day, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A sleep deprived driver, believe it or not, is as dangerous as a drunk driver. Sleep also strengthens learning and memory, including both motor skills and language related tasks. When you learn something, your memory improves if you go to sleep within the next 3 hours, and it deteriorates after a sleepless night. A good night s sleep can also improve learning the next day. When people learn a new difficult motor task, such as a video game skill, the brain areas that are active during the learning become reactivated during one s sleep that night. The brain replays the same patterns they had during the day, only faster. The amount of functioning and activity in those areas during sleep predicts the amount of improvement the next day. In learning, wakefulness and sleep play complementary roles. Researchers have demonstrated that learning strengthens the appropriate synapses during wakefulness and weakens other synapses during sleep. Therefore, REM sleep is crucial for organizing pieces and the associations between them needed for forming lasting memories. Organizing these pieces within your brain requires information gained through learning. Learning is a complicated process that is completed subconsciously by gaining new knowledge and skills and modifying previous ones. Three basic parts of learning include acquisition, consolidation, and recall. During acquisition, the brain receives information and stores it within its neural circuits as memory. This ... • 5. Argumentative Essay On Cloning Horses Kassidy Schumann Ward English 1 Cloning Horses 17 November 2017 Cloning Horses Cloning horses is like opening a pandora box, that s better left closed. In the years to come cloning could become more common in the horse industry. As Ryan Bell states in the article The Clone Age, When we clone we produce what we already have. (Bell Clone Age) Breeders must remember; too much of a good thing is still a bad thing. So here s the question is cloning good or bad. The first equine wasn t cloned until 2003. However, the first organism was cloned in 1928. Hans Spemann was the first person to create a clone, he cloned a frog. The most well known clone may have been Dolly the sheep. Dolly was born in 1996, that was the year cloning became more popular. (Bell Clone Age) Why clone? That s the question many breeders are asking. For breeding stock cloning could increase amounts of offspring. A clone could manage a breeding career from a horse so it could continue to show.Cloning could bring back beloved childhood horses or past champions. But is it worth the cost of $160,000? (Bell Clone Age) Many breeders are weary of cloning. Not only is cloning expensive but, according to the article Is Cloning Horses Ethical by M. Campbell, a few breed associations (including the thoroughbred association) don t even allow clones to be registered. These roadblocks may be the reason that worldwide only 100 to 200 horses are cloned per year. (Campbell) When cloning many people believe the product will be 100% the same as the original. Out of 20,000 genes only 13 are not the same as the original horse s genes. This is because the eggs needed to make a clone are usually taken from slaughterhouse mares.(Bell Clone Age) In the article Equine Cloning by Oliver Pynn the cloning process is explained. Mitochondrial DNA comes from the egg, and if the egg doesn t come from the original horse the clone is only 99.99935% the same. (Pynn) In the United States of America horse meat is not consumed. In some foreign countries horse meat is consumed. Is cloned meat safe to eat? Many people worry about the potential health effects ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Difference Between Impressionism And Impressionism Emily Musick Erin Brabazon English Composition 31 January 2016 Realism and Impressionism Art has progressed in many ways throughout history; two prominent styles however that define the evolution of art are Realism and Impressionism. Realism is defined as treatment of forms, colors, space, etc., in such a manner as to emphasize their correspondence to actuality or to ordinary visual experience (realism). Two artists that are well known for this style of art are Gustave Courbet and Jean François Millet. Impressionism is defined as a style of painting developed in the last third of the 19th century, characterized chiefly by short brushstrokes of bright colors in immediate juxtaposition to represent the effect of light on objects (impressionism). Claude Monet and Pierre Auguste Renoir are pioneers of defining the Impressionist movement. These artists use a variety of techniques, perspectives, subject matter, as well as influences to create the art we see hanging in museums today. Realism is easily identified when we analyze the works of Gustave Courbet and Jean François Millet. 19th century French painter Courbet is even known for creating the term Realism. Each of these art styles are meant to depict true forms of objects and how the artist chose to interpret them is what defines each artform as a whole(Timmons). • 7. The Use Of Moral Codes In The Beatitudes Christianity, too, has a set of moral codes that its members are called to follow. The main Christian moral code is known as the Beatitudes, spoken by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount. They acknowledge a reward for the poor, mourning, meek, hungry, merciful, pure in heart, peacemakers, persecuted, and insulted (Barnes, 2017). In addition to the Beatitudes, there are two greatest commandments offered as a moral guide for Christians. These two commandments are stated in the Gospel of Matthew: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22: 37 29). In addition to the standard moral codes, Christians also follow the Ten Commandments, instructions inscribed on stone given to Moses by God on Mount Sinai. The Ten Commandments, though, are aimed at combatting sin, forcing Christians to understand that sin can be committed in more than one way: in thought, word, and deed (Barnes, 2017). Like Hinduism, moral codes make known the responsibility that followers have to both the deity and to others. In Christianity, moral codes are made known more obviously than in Hinduism, and are aimed at all Christians, not based on circumstances. Every Christian is called to obey this responsibility regardless of wealth, occupation, age, etc. Both Hindus and Christians are responsible for serving their God or god(s) and humanity through expression of these codes and commandments. They each obey this responsibility in various ways. Hinduism contains a wide variety of practices consisting of: meditation, yoga, devotions, and pilgrimages (Molloy, 92). Meditation is an integral part of the Hindu religion, it is known as when the mind is focused only on the object of concentration (Molloy, 92). A specific way in which this can be performed is through yoga. The Hindu religion not only practices the physical yoga that is most prevalent in the Western world, but they practice several. The most well known yoga exercises are: Bhakti yoga, Raja yoga, Hatha yoga, and Kundalini yoga (Molloy, 92 93). Yangban or the ruling class seemed to be following the Confucian codes of conduct more closely than other classes. However, new Neo Confucian ideology demanded that women stay confined at home, abiding by the adage men outside, women inside . Seclusion of female line to women s chambers, referred to as anpang, enunciated further deepening of segregation of the genders. Anpang, or the inner rooms of the house, were well hid from the sight from the street and public. According to Confucian philosophy, three obediences were required from a virtuous woman: to her father as a daughter, to her husband during marriage and to her son once she reached old age. The incredible 3 dimensional view each author describes lends to each character s why ; why they go forward with their respective adventures, why they react the way they do, why they care. Although Krakauer inserts direct quotes from people who McCandless came into direct contact with and experts from primary source journals, Krakauer s own voice in the narration of the dead man s life is trustworthy due to the similarities the protagonist and the author share. • 22. Social Isolation In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein A block of unmoving ice sits waiting until someone makes use of it. For an unknowledgeable amount of time it spends its existence waiting. Waiting, waiting, waiting. Finally, it melts and no one discovers it. Ice cannot converse, it cannot socialize. Conversing is to talk and mingle with others. Socializing does not necessarily indicate conversation, but within spoken word is what the hoi polloi thinks of when they hear let s socialize with the other members. Language acquisition is a crucial structure in social psychology; however, before the discovery and subsequent study of a young girl, known pseudonymously as Genie, the field of study had little development. Genie spent the first thirteen years of her life as ice. Ignored, spurned, and utterly isolated by her parents, Genie could not talk because she was never taught. As a result of ... A study co partnered with the University of Chicago states, socially active, popular, and connected individuals are also healthier and more physically appealing and intelligent than are individuals who perceive themselves to be relatively socially isolated, meaning social isolation has a tremendous affect on health and happiness (Cacioppo 4). The effects of social isolation are physiological as well as psychological. This may also explain why Mary Shelley gave her creature a burning ambition to make Victor s life a living, flame consumed Hell. Frankenstein s monster has psychological defense mechanisms. A psychological defense mechanism is a coping technique that helps one maintain his or her self esteem (Perlman). Projection, a defense mechanism, of the monster s feelings of remoteness and inadequacy upon Victor proves the monster suffered from isolation and a subsequent mental ... • 23. Review Of Genome-Wide Analysis Of Trx Family In Cotton... Discussion This work provides the first report on genome wide analysis and characterization of TRX family in cotton genomes. We found that there are 150 genes in Gossypium hirsutum, 92 genes in Gossypium arboreum and 81 genes in Gossypium Ramondii. According to domain number, GhTRX genes divided into five subfamilies (TRX A, TRX B, TRX O, TRX ERp29 and TRX TPR_1_2).This result is in agreement with previous study in other species such as rice, Arabidopsis and sorghum(Choi, Jeong, Kende, 2004). In addition, the majority of TRX genes in upland cotton belonging to subfamily TRX A and TRX B agreeing with previous studies in rice, maize, soybean and poplar (ref) this finding suggested that these two subfamilies may be involved in diverse ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Depending on events, evolutionary origin of the GhTRX genes might undertake 2 evolutionary stages; last 0.31 and 1.08 mya. Evolutionary in G. hirsutum happened after rice and Arabidopsis. There were10 duplicated pairs in rice Thioredoxin gene family, its Evolutionary origin might undertake 3 evolutionary stages; events were ranged from 9 to 70 MYA (Ref) whereas the genome of the ancestor of Arabidopsis underwent a duplication event about 24 40 MYA, shortly after the divergence from the cotton ancestor. Approximately 14% of paralogous pairs remain up to date (Meyer et al., 2005). In general duplication of GhTRX happened after OsTRX and ATTRX and the number of genes duplicated was lower than in rice and Arabidopsis; this May be due to loss of most paralogues (Ref). GhTRX A subfamily was largest amongst GhTRXs subfamilies; agreeing with previous study in rice, Arabidopsis and sorghum (Chibani, Wingsle, Jacquot, Gelhaye, Rouhier, 2009). High number of TRX A members may be due to duplication (Nuruzzaman et al., 2012), this explains multiple members of TRX A family in G.hirsutum. GhTRX genes roles under different stresses Six GhTRX genes were selected randomly to analyze their function in specific tissue, leaf development stages, phytohormones and abiotic stress. In specific tissue, all genes were highly expressed in various tissues suggesting that these genes may have crucial functions in cotton growth and development. These results agree with previous study in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. Specific Predictive Prophecies Are One Of Daniel’S... Specific predictive prophecies are one of Daniel s distinctive elements (Rogers, The Date of Daniel: Does it Matter?). But what is predictive prophecy? Unlike the assumptions of some, not all prophecy foretells the future (Jackson, Principles of Bible Prophecy). It was frequently the case that prophets would forthtell past or present events (Jackson). For a prophecy to qualify as predictive, it must meet certain qualifications. First, the prophecy must be uttered significantly earlier than its fulfillment (Jackson). Second, the prophecy must contain specific details, not guesswork (Jackson). And third, the prophecy must be exactly fulfilled (Jackson). Geisler adds that legitimate predictive prophecies must contain unusual events that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, Daniel addresses these four kingdoms elsewhere in his work, and the traditional identification of the four kingdoms is clear from a proper interpretation of those texts (Dan. 7:2 8, 17; 8:3 8, 20 22; Archer, A Survey of Old Testament Introduction, 376 78). Furthermore, Daniel does not distinguish between the Median and Persian kingdoms (McDowell 22). His inspired interpretation of the handwriting on the wall depicts the Persians, not the Medians, as the conquerors of Babylon (Dan. 5:28; McDowell 23). Even if Daniel was written in the second century B.C., some of his prophecies are still predictive since Rome was not a significant world power and Christ s kingdom was not yet established (Geisler 179; McDowell 24 25). Therefore, no logical reason exists to reject the predictive element of Daniel s four kingdom prophecy. Another example of Daniel s predictive element comes from the prophecies of the Grecian empire (Dan. 8:3 8, 20 22; 11:3 4). A sixth century B.C. date for Daniel places him approximately 200 years or more before Alexander the Great began his conquests (Elwell 1: 50). The former prophecy accurately depicts Alexander s victory over the Persian Empire between B.C. 334 to 331 (Walton 554). The latter prophecy vividly describes the partitioning of Alexander s mighty empire after his death (554, 560). She is the former wife of Prince Charles, and the mother of Princes William and Harry. Her charitable work with impoverished children has formed her reputation as a role model for the people of Britain and much of the world. Much of Diana s life has been devoted to traveling the world to help others. Her work in Africa with the children injured by landmines brought her into the global spotlight (Wexford 3). Princess Diana was more than just a public figure and royal, she was a loving person who brought light to social issues and cared for those who are destitute. A hero, as defined in Webster s Online Dictionary, is a person who a person admired for achievements or noble qualities or one who shows great courage. However, a hero is not just a person with outstanding achievements. A hero is a person who is philanthropic, generous, and kind. Heros fight for those who cannot fight for themselves, and do not judge those who they are fighting for. They are charitable in ways other than donating money, they give their time and effort in order to make the lives of others more pleasant. Heros display bravery, as they are willing to go into a dangerous situation to help others that have been aggrieved. • 31. Witchcraft Trials And The Salem Witch Trials The Salem witchcraft trials took place in colonial Massachusetts between February 1692 and May 1693. The news of witches began to spread in Salem when a group of young girls gathered together in the kitchen of the Reverend Samuel Parris with his Indian slave named Tituba to experiment with witchcraft. After these young girls began to portray unusual behavior the village doctor came to the scene and diagnosed the girls to be possessed by the devil. The news of the presence of witches spread throughout Salem like a craze and lead to a series of accusations and turmoil. The Salem witchcraft trials were a collection of trials, hearings, accusations, imprisonments, and executions that sought to get rid of the influence of witchcraft from the Salem population. The vast majority of people who were accused of being witches were mostly women. These accusations had more to do with the social status of these women rather than to seek to understand them. The first hanging began with the death of Bridget Bishop in June and continued until September. The Salem witchcraft trials included an example of scapegoating because Puritans feared that the devil was continuously looking for ways to test their faith. Today the term witch has been used in films, books, and in pop culture. In the seventieth century, an example of a person who was considered a witch was generally someone who appeared to be involved with the devil by portraying unexplainable behavior. • 33. U.s. Dollar s World Reserve Status Throughout the 20th century, the United States has slowly constructed a global system of control. Its superior military, weaponry and intelligence apparatus have been crucial in this system, but an equally important factor has been its control of the global economy, and its primary weapon, the U.S. Dollar. The dollar s world reserve status alone does not make it unique, but its deeply rooted role in American and global geo politics certainly does. As Vassili Fouskas and Bülent Gökay point out in their book The New American Imperialism, Dollar hegemony has always been strategic to the future of American global dominance, in many respects more important than America s overwhelming military power. While military power is more visible and useful as a display, it is the dollar s role as reserve currency that secures the domination of the U.S. in the global economic market place . [1] This system is built on serious fault lines and its future is the most important issue for international relations today. To understand how the dollar secures American hegemony requires some review of history. After the Great Depression and World War II, the economic structures of the Old World powers were destroyed and in dire need of reconstruction. Only America remained in one piece, a situation that allowed it to decide how the new world order would work. As World War II was ending, representatives from the Allied nations were gathered in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, where negotiations for this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

First of all , we tried to find the retention time of standard flammable liquids to be able to identify our unknown sample comparing with their retention times . The standards samples were : charcoal lighter , gasoline , kerosene , light fluid , shellac thinner , and paint thinner . The retention time is calculated by the formula : We injected 5 (1)L of paint thinner using the syringe needle into the gas chromatograph and we used the speed of 1cm/min to test which volume could be used . However , the pick was too high and we changed the volume (2)to 1 L , which was better . With the parameters defined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 3 . Because a considerable portion of the fuel remains (14)unburned and what does burn can leave characteristic burn patterns or diagnostic signs . 4 . How might one determine the physical location of the origin of the fire , so that he might know where to look for evidence of accelerant ? By the burn/damage patterns found at the origin of the fire it is possible to have an idea of which accelerant was used . When volatile vapors burn above a flammable liquid accelerant they leave distinct patterns (15)unlike other combustible products usually found in a structure . Conclusion Based on the comparison of the retention times of the standard flammable liquids and the average of the unknown sample , we concluded that kerosene was the accelerant used .
