2. Pirates Of The Music Industry Research Paper
Pirates of the Music Industry
The way consumers have shaped recorded music has always had an impact on the record industry.
In the history of recorded music, we have witnessed a great deal of technological change.
Although opinions may vary, we can reasonably assume that the way we consume music has
consistently increased and evolved since the invention of the first phonograph. While previous
generations focused on format and standards, in the early 21st century we saw a great upset in not
how we consume music, but how we gained access to new music digitally. As a technological
greedy society we began to witness the rise of music piracy in the record industry. Piracy is the use
of another person s idea, product or invention without their permission, ... Show more content on

Music piracy was sweeping the world, the record industry was taking an exuberant revenue
decrease. Consumers who would purchase an album in a retail store at market value were now
able to obtain their music for no price at all. Music pirates were able to download their favorite
songs to digital devices such as MP3 players and Steve Job s creation of the iPod. Between 1999
and 2008, annual U.S. revenue from physical recorded music products had fallen from $12.8
billion back to $5.5 billion (Woldfogel). This decrease would begin to cause concern for sales and
creation of new music. Record labels began to push for stronger copyright laws, the weak copyright
laws were causing major consequences in the recording industry with every investment made in
new artists and brands. The first attempt to prosecute someone who released copyrighted material
on the Internet, in 1994 collapsed embarrassingly when the judge threw out the charges existing
case law said that infringement had to be associated with financial gain, and the material had been
given away. The No Electronic Theft Act, passed in 1997, closed this loophole. The Digital
Millennium Copyright Act, passed in 1998, further strengthened the industry s hand it banned
attempts to circumvent copy protection (Mann). With obtaining stronger copyright laws, the record
industry would be able to efficiently protect each artist as they produced and released new albums

3. I Interned For The Copa Shorts Film Festival Essay
I interned for the COPA shorts film festival from August to December. I was a film reviewer, and
my duties and responsibilities were to essentially review any short films that were assigned to
me, and then write a review and rate them accordingly. I would be emailed whenever a new film
was sent to me via a website called FilmFreeway. Because my internship was primarily an online
one, my schedule was flexible, which gave me the opportunity to work at my own pace, rather than
at a fixed time every week.
I was work around 4 5 (maybe more, depending on how long the film is) hours a week, reviewing
any films that came my way. Shelley, my internship supervisor, understood that I was a full time
student and made sure that I was given ample time to watch and review these films. The way the
website operated was that I would sign into my account, and all of the videos that are assigned to
me would be available for viewing. I would watch the films as many times as I felt necessary. If I
watched a film more than 4 5 times, that usually meant that I found it perplexing, and difficult to
understand.
After I am done viewing these films numerous times, I would take time to contemplate what I
wanted to say about this film. I would write down bullet points about what I wanted to say for
my review. I would then take these bullet points and attempt to write a rough draft of a cohesive
review. I would read over the draft, and skim past the film to see if there s anything I missed. I

4. Difference Between Interest Groups And Political Parties
According to ushistory.org, there are four types of linkage institutions. Interest groups and political
parties are said to be linkage institutions . In this essay, I will be addressing why it is exactly that
interest groups and political parties fall under the category of linkage institutions, the similarities
and differences between interest groups and political parties, the differences in the roles that
interest groups and political parties play, and which of the two linkage institutions is most
important to the democratic processes. These topics are significant because interest groups and
political parties keep the people involved with governmentpolicy by giving people a chance to
influence policy in our country. The main purpose for this essay is to inform the reader of the
differences between interest groups and political parties and how the people can get more involved;
more than just simply casting a vote in elections.
Linkage institutions are defined by Wikipedia as, The structures that connect the people to the
government. According to chapter eight of the book, a political party is defined as, An ongoing
coalition of interests joined together in an effort to get its candidates for public office elected
under a common label. In more simple terms, a political party is a group of like minded
individuals that try to get their candidates, which support their ideas, to get elected. The words

A Glorious Way to Die by Russel Spurr recounts the final mission of the Imperial Japanese super
battleship Yamato. The book switches back and forth between American and Japanese accounts of
both final battle of the Yamato and the decisions which led to its eventual sinking. Spurr spent years
gathering information for his book and interviewing Japanese and American servicemen about their
roles in the battleship demise. The monograph is clear that despite the sentiments of many Japanese
sailors that the Yamato, and by extension Japan, was doomed even before the outset of its final
sortie. A Glorious Way to Die demonstrates that the final battle of the Yamato was an act of
desperation by a nation destined to lose the war due to attrition,... Show more content on

Spurr recounts how the father of one of the Yamato s crewmen ignored these signs when he
quotes the him as saying, The Americans still do not admit defeat. Their bombers are attacking
the homeland. The Philippines and Iwo Jima appear to be lost. This theme of the unwillingness
of the Japanese to even consider that they could be defeated is repeated often throughout the
text. Spurr moves on to describe how the Yamato was the pinnacle of battleship design despite
the fact that it had fatal flaws which would cost the ship dearly later. The vessel sported the
largest guns ever placed on naval vessel, radar, and a massively armored section amidships.
Yamato had been envisioned as having a top speed of 31 knots but the design was cut back to 27
knots when the Japanese doubted the American Navy would ever have ships that fast. The book
clarifies how innovations like a flooding system used to correct listing proved ineffective, if not
disastrous, during the Yamato s final hours. Spurr also points out that of the five planned sister
ships for Yamato only the Musahi was completed, the others were never built or were converted
into carriers. Much of the first quarter of the book highlights that the age of the battleship was
fading almost as quickly as it had come. A Glorious Way to Die also moves back in time to 1918
and the development of Japan s battleships following the Imperial Navy s success over the
Russians in 1905.

6. Food Insecurity In Australia Essay
The global population is expected to reach 9 billion people by the year 2050 and scientific
projections indicate that world is on a trajectory towards an environmental and global food crisis.
World Leaders, environmental enthusiasts and aid agencies have cause for alarm as they support
urgent policies for change, for without them mankind will face unprecedented food insecurity. In
2015 estimates were that there were some 795 million people [World Food Programme, 2015],
experiencing food insecurity and 3.1 million children under 5 died through malnutrition, while
Australians continue to waste an estimated 361 Kg s of food per person per yr [PMSEIC, 2010,

The concerns for the 5% of the Australian population who are currently facing food insecurity are
predominantly due to reduced access to nutritious food, particularly in rural and remote areas and
low socio economic issues around affordability. However as a nation, Australia has more food than
it needs and as such has numerous for opportunities for trade, including wheat, barley, diary and
beef.
While the majority of Australians live with food security, the long term forecast shows our current
food resources will be insufficient to feed the increased population, especially with alarming
climate change forecasts, nor is the demand sustainable for the environment, particularly in the beef
industry. The real cost of beef is not understood by most consumers, which could be because this
country has not experienced shortages sufficient to demand radical diet changes. Beef has been a

7. Auxin Is Better Than Natural Auxin Analysis
Plant hormones are chemical signals released by a tissue and delivered to a receptor tissue. Auxin
is the hormone most commonly found in plants. Auxin regulates and aids in the development of
plants (Kazan 2013). The acid growth hypothesis states that an acidic ph will enhance the effects of
auxin in seeddevelopment and plantgrowth. Radish seeds were planted in acidic soil and
administered natural and synthetic auxin in order to test for the effect of synthetic auxin in an
acidic soil on plant growth. The reason for this experiment is to test whether or not synthetic (man
made) auxin works better than natural auxin in growth development. It was found that the natural
kind of auxin works better in an acidic environment than synthetic auxin.

After the process of pollination and the development of the embryo stops, a seed is formed. The
seed will remain dormant until it comes in contact with water which causes gibberellins (a type of
plant hormone) to be released which will trigger the layer covering the embryo to produce enzymes
needed to break down the endosperm and release the nutrients that are stored there. Those nutrients
will be used by the embryo for growth. Hormones are chemical substances that help and regulate
plant growth and aid in seed germination (Gutzler and Brewer 2013). There are seven different
types of plant hormones and they all trigger specific reactions. One of the first hormones
discovered in plants was Auxin. Auxin is known to aid in stem elongation and shape direction of

Effect of Thyroid Hormone on Cortical Neuron Dendritic Outgrowth and Cell Viability Thyroid
hormones have been known to be essential for normal neurodevelopment for over a century1. A
deficiency in thyroid hormone (TH) during gestation, often due to inadequate levels of iodine have
serious consequences for offspring including cretinism which is characterized as severe cognitive
impairment, ataxia and sensory deficits. Cretinism is the most common preventable cause of brain
damage worldwide2. Research has shown that even mildly decreased thyroid hormone during this
critical period can effect cognitive function3. TH hormones mainly mediate their effects by binding
to nuclear thyroid hormone receptors within the cytoplasm that bind to TH response elements to
activate transcription4. In some rodent studies, thyroid hormones were found to have significant
influence on the development of neuronal processes. Gestational deficiency of TH in Purkinje
neurons leads to reduced cell numbers, dendrite arborization, synaptogenesis, and axon/dendrite
growth5.The critical period in which these cells require TH in the rodent begins at E18 and
proceeds through the first two to three weeks of postnatal life5, although the literature is not
consistent on this critical window. Some of the effects of thyroid hormone on the neuronal cells
include increased proliferation, migration, and morphogenesis of axonal and dendritic processes6,
however there are gaps in our mechanistic understanding

The first several chapters in the first section of the book dealing with the procurement and use of
salt in the ancient world. The Chinese and the Egyptians were the first to use salt on a large
scale. The Egyptians collected evaporated salt from the sea and the Nile and they used the salt in
their food as well as an essential ingredient in preserving the body during mummification. The
Chinese used evaporated salt to salt fish and to create a condiment that we still use, soy sauce. It
was the Romans, though, with their fish based diet that really used salt extensively in their cuisine.
The next several chapters deal with the importance of salt in Christian Europe during the middle
Ages and into the Early Modern period. In Catholic Europe, the church had placed certain dietary
restriction forbidding meat on Fridays and church holidays. This created an enormous market for
fish. Now, having read this last chapter of Salt, I am very aware of how extensive the history of
this commodity is. One of the great underlying themes of Salt is the idea of how one little thing can
make many different big things. In fact, Salt can read as one long tale of unintended consequences.

The movie leads us to think that the root of Nazism lay solely with Germany, and that it was evil
Germans under Hitler who overthrew innocent Austria and turned it into a fascist nation. Because
most Americans are not history buffs on Austria s role in the Anschluss, we tend to believe that
The Sound of Music, or perhaps even Schindler s List, presents us with completely factual
evidence. In a sense, we have allowed this movie to be a history book that tells the tale of the
Anschluss. Because German Nazism is presented so negatively in the movie, of course an
American audience will side with the Austrians who are so innocently represented by the VonTrapp
family. No one else is there to tell the audience any differently.
In the minds of the American audience, The Sound of Music creates a story of an innocent Austria
trying to escape the evils of Nazi Germany. The movie was correct in showing that many Austrians
wanted to remain Austrian vs. becoming German, but the overwhelming majority of Austrians at
the time were actually fully supportive of the coming Anschluss. On March 13, 1938, Hitler entered
Vienna in a triumphant motorcade. Thousands of ecstatic Austrians greeted him with unbridled
enthusiasm, waving Nazi flags and screaming his name (Perez par22). Perhaps the VonTrapp family
didn t welcome Hitler with such enthusiasm, but the movie leads us to

shaped the laws of this country into what they are today from the concerns of politicians and
government leaders as far back as the 1800s with crime control. Basically, the criminal justice
system was designed to ensure the safety of individuals whom are citizens of this country.
Essentially, the criminal justicesystem is the structural basis used to maintain social control

of a misdemeanor would be for an individual to be convicted of a traffic violation or jaywalking.
Infractions are the least serious of crimes. Infractions are not punishable by imprisonment. A
person charged with an infraction is not entitled to a trial by jury (California Penal Code, 2010).
Instead, infractions are punishable by monetary fines or restitution amounts. An example of an

The article, Understanding and Theorizing the Role of Culture in the Conceptualizations of
Successful Aging and Lifelong Learning by Maureen Tam (2014), seeks to explore how successful
aging and lifelong learning is understood in different cultural contexts, within and between cultures.
Tam (2014) articulates that successful aging and lifelong learningare value laden concepts that are
culturally determined. To this effect, people with different value systems and cultural backgrounds
may perceive and understand these two concepts differently, resulting in different definitions and
conceptualizations by people in diverse cultural contexts (p. 881). Tam s article successfully
addresses her thesis that the concepts of successful aging and lifelong learning are value laden and
are culturally constructed, by providing qualitative research that supports her claims. Tam succeeds
in her argument by introducing The Kluckhohnian Framework of Cultural Variation, which
provides a better understanding of how diverse cultures conceptualize important concepts in
different and similar ways. The first conceptual definition that Tam outlines was from Havighurt

the accounts they give are so different it is impossible to be certain of the details of his life.
He is thought to have visited Norway in around 1000 where he was converted to Christianity by

Greenland he sailed off course and arrived in a place he called Vinland , because of the abundant

17. Identifying Communication Styles As A Training Professional
Identifying Communication Styles
As a training professional, you need to be able to differentiate effective and ineffective
communication styles, and understand that their style of communication may often conflict with
the way messages are interpreted. By understanding different communication styles, we can help
our students begin to understand how to separate the message from the communication style of the
person with whom they are communicating and to appropriately respond to the content of the
message.
Examples would be a supervisor saying to a subordinate in loud and angry tone of voice ...can t
you do anything right? (aggressive style) or a shop clerk rolling her eyes back as she tells the
customer rummaging through her purse take your time, I m not busy at all (passive aggressive style).
Our communication skills are developed based upon our education, attitudes, and preconceived
notions. The good news is that communication styles can be changed with effort and the right
attitude.
No matter your style, effective communication always includes positive feedback. Constructive
comments help those you are speaking with to feel good about themselves, to feel more
comfortable and confident trying new things, to grow, to be heard and to be taken seriously. Critical
and judgmental comments will inhibit growth and learning. For example:

Colour can be defined as the result of light hitting an object and its resulting perception based on
the physics of sight or the eye. Artist have been theorising and implementing colour and colour

understanding of colour can elevate a particular piece of art far beyond any that do not successfully

aspects of this painting which include Dallaire s use of form, and colour. While also considering
briefly Dallaire s painting in in comparison to Jean Dubuffet s, painting The Dandy (1954)(Fig

and two sets of techniques. Before considering the painting itself I will examine the artist
himself, as this will help in understanding his painting, Wo ist Ein Zigarrengeschäft (1954). Jean
Dallaire (1916 1965), is a Canadian artist who was known for his work as a painter, illustrator,
and professor. His work is considered as expressive with the use of festive images, shapes, colour

In The Quiet American, Phuong s character is seen but not heard. Unlike Adah, it is unknown if
she had a supportive father in her life. At the start of the novel, Phuong is introduced as Thomas
Fowler s lover; an English reporter living in Vietnam. I shut my eyes and she was again what she
used to be: she was the his of steam, the clink of a cup, she was a certain hour of the night and
the promise of rest (Greene 4). In this quote Phuong is being reduced to the sexual pleasure she
once gave Thomas Fowler. As a man, he had the power to subject her to such descriptions as she
had no freedom to object that sort of behavior. Being a woman, especially a colonized woman,
Phuong experiences double persecution. Throughout the novel she is spoken about in third person,

For Phuong, her Vietnamese culture is compromised when she altered her physical appearance
after starting her relationship with Pyle. I saw that she was doing her hair differently, allowing it
to fall back and straight over her shoulder, I remembered that Pyle had once criticized the
elaborate hairdressing which she thought become the daughter of a mandarin (Greene 4). This
quote illustrates how a man, like Pyle had dominance over Phuong in such a way that she
changed her hair and way of dress because he preferred it that way. In Adah s case, mingling with
the Western women around her gave her more insight as to what her rights were in her marriage
with Francis. Once she finds out that Francis had been cheating on her she confronts the situation
in an effort to protect her children. The greatest mistake an African could make was to bring an
educated girl to London and let her mix with middle class English women. They soon know their
rights (Emecheta 241). For Francis, Adah getting a glimpse of the rights women had in England

Documentaries in today s society are a way to provide the audience with facts about history,
nature, current events, etc. Their agenda is to be successful at what they are trying to carry out
and persuade the audience into believing what the documentary states and shows. Vik Muniz in
Waste Land shows a great way to persuade his audience by showing how he is a hero to the
pickers and incorporates them into a giant piece of art. Similarly, by focusing on the catadores low

Environmentalism is the protection and improvement of the health of the environment. To help
improve the environment, society can take part into recycling, but will also lead to a problem
because we all would take away workers who work in the landfills. Meaning if this potential
problem happens the catadores will be unemployed with no job and no money to live from. It
can be problematic because if everyone recycles, this low class of people who are not as wealthy
will have them in bleak conditions more than they already were. By having a lot of waste material
in a landfill, the pickers will continue to have a job, even though they receive insufficient pay, they
still make a living off of it by providing shelter for themselves and their families. They gather
materials that are useful and help maintain the environment. At the end, the environmentalism did

Twelve Angry Man has a lot of great, hidden themes throughout the movie. One of these themes
is that prejudice can block someone from the truth. This theme is present throughout the movies

that yells a lot, swears a lot, and insults almost every person that changes their votes. He believes
the kid on trial is guilty because he specifically said, I will kill you; no matter of evidence

The crime that the boys have committed unknowingly is beyond justification. The irony of the

mistook Simon to be the beast, and ended his life.It is quite evident the boys have lost all control

25. The Oecd Report Teachers Matter
The OECD report Teachers Matter identifies that teachers have a huge demand on them by
schools to deal effectively with different languages, different students backgrounds, to be
extremely sensitive of gender and culture, to promote tolerance and social cohesion and to
respond efficiently to disadvantaged children (OECD, 2005). Also with the presence of the
number of children with SEN in classrooms, it is very important that teachers are prepared to
teach all children regardless of their learning needs, intellectual, emotional, behavioural and social
and physical capabilities (Cardona, 2009). Teachers therefore need confidence in their ability to
deal with these demands and be set to deal with them in the present school climate (De Boer et al,
2010).
Marin (2014) discusses the issue of inclusion and how important it has become in today s education
system. Her study focuses on whether teachers are generally prepared to deal with students with
SEN in mainstream schools, the advantages and disadvantages of inclusion in schools, and
whether teachers need any additional training in the field of special education to respond to the
needs of SEN children. Her report found (using a quantitative approach for her investigation) that
66.2% of teacher s from the research had encountered students with SEN. This is a significantly
high number and suggests that teachers have to be prepared to deal with, and respond to those kid
s needs, and diversity in the classroom.

27. Sitis Inversus Essay
First seen and recognized in 1643 by Marco Severino, dextrocardia with situs inversus is a rare
condition that affects 1 in 10,000 people, or 0.1% of the population. The word, sitis inversus is a
shortened latin version of sitis inversus viscerum, which means inverted position of the internal
organs. The heartand organs are completely flipped (or mirrored ) opposite of what they normally
should be. Even though it s a rare condition, those who do have it can have some health issues that
can be serious, and others may not have issues at all.
It is a congenital condition and believed to be transmitted by autosomal recessive genes from the
parents, meaning each parent has to have this trait in order to pass it off to the offspring. If the
embryo receives only one gene, then that person will be a carrier of the condition but not

Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice follows Elizabeth Bennet and her sisters as their mother pushes
them towards getting married. Mr. Bingley and his friend, Mr. Darcy, arrive in Hertfordshire, and
they attend a ball the Bennet sisters are attending. Mr. Bingley immediately takes to Jane Bennet,
and they dance together multiple times. Once Mr. Bingley prompts Mr. Darcy to dance with
Elizabeth, he expresses his distaste for her, but throughout the novel, Mr. Darcy changes his
opinion on Elizabeth and grows to love her. Mr. Darcy acts in an opposite way to how a man of
his social status is expected to, and his remarks and attitude towards others can be construed as
ironic for a man of his stature. Throughout Pride and Prejudice, Mr. Darcy is written as a source of
irony through his rejection of his social status, his interactions with Elizabeth, and the presentation
of his ego.

Rationality is highly subjective and it could be argued that those inclined to have aggressive and
anti social behaviour are not rational beings. With aggressive behaviour , violent inclination, and
detached nature, those with the warrior gene may not be able to make rational decisions (Powledge,
2016). With this conclusion, the rationality of those with the warrior gene is questionable and
therefore unfit to accept the conditions of the social contract. The social contract wholly depends on
the compliance of the people. Not to mention, the study found that those imprisoned were highly
linked to the gene while non criminal controls were not (Thomas, 2016). The fact that those with
the gene are disobeying the law anyways proves that the system at work currently is not stopping
individuals from acting on their aggressive inclinations. Their lack of acceptance of the social
contract makes gene discrimination more appealing for those who do give consent. Chaos
manifests as the incentive to follow the social contract collapses as more people refuse the social
contract. If treatment for those with the gene would mean more compliance to the law, it may be
the ethical decision. However, again, the social contract is dependent on the rationality of beings

31. What Happens When A Soccer Ball Bounces
1.0Background Theory
1.1Introduction
This investigation aims to determine the relationship between air pressure and the bounce height
of the ball, and what material (material of a basketball, volleyball and soccer ball) is best suited for
a ball in order for it to achieve its greatest bounce height.
1.2Research Questions
1.How does the air pressure inside a ball influence the bounce height/vertical motion of that ball?
2.How does the material of a ball affect the bounce height/vertical motion of that ball?

Air pressure can be defined as the force applied by air molecules on the surfaces in and around an
object, and is measured in Pascals one Newton per square metre (Pa) or pounds per square inch
(psi). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The velocity of the ball increases in the opposite direction as it has started to rebound from the
ground with acceleration still pointing up (see Figure 5). This also means that the elastic potential
energy is transferring into kinetic energy, although the kinetic energy will be less than previous
because some of the energy has been lost to generate heat and sound when the ball lands and
deforms. Due to the loss in energy, the ball will not return to its original drop height and creates a
bounce height.

6.The ball is now just touching the surface so it has returned to its original shape so all the
elastic potential energy has been transferred back into kinetic energy again (see Figure 6). The

direction and its velocity is decreasing.

black authors, musicians, and poets. One of the most notable poets of this era was Langston

his controversial bodies of work. One of the most controversial poems created by Hughes is his
poem called Silhouette . Silhouette was written in 1936, where racial segregation and prejudice
was emphasized. What makes this piece of work so controversial is how the tone within the
poem takes a drastic turn when the speaker and gender are changed. This paper will analyze the
ambiguous meanings of the poem once the speakers identity is transitioned. This poem focuses
on the lynching of a African American male. The speaker of the poem appears to console a
woman who appears to be distressed due to the events taking place. In the first four lines of stanza

34. Examples Of Individualism In Rip Van Winkle
An Amazing Romantic Folktale Rip Van Winkle, a short story by Washington Irving, is a
fascinating Romantic folktale. But what are the elements that categorize this as a Romantic story?
There are actually many examples of Romanticism in this story. Three main examples of
Romanticism are: the story values individualism, there are strange and supernatural events, and
nature plays a major role in the plot. The first reason that Rip Van Winkleis a Romantic story is that
it celebrates individualism. Rip Van Winkle, the main character, does exactly what he wants to
do. Admittedly, he does not do much at all. His idleness causes his wife to constantly order him
around. He ignores her complaints and usually tries to avoid her. Rip is a somewhat selfish man
because he does not really seem to care much about his family and home. Despite this, everyone
in the town admires him, and they all despise his wife. Certain it is, that he was a great favorite
of all the good wives of the village, who, as usual, with the amiable sex, took part in all his family

Overfishing is a serious problem that often gets overlooked. In the article by Udy Bell, called
Overfishing: A Threat to Marine Biology, Bell talks about how only 1 percent of the world s
oceans are marine protected areas (MPAs). MPAs not only help protect oceans by allowing
habitats to recover from damage caused by overfishing but also allow fishto safely reproduce. Due
to fishingfish faster then they can reproduce, many species of fish are going endangered or
already endangered of being extinct. Species like whales, dungongs, sea cows, codfish, jewfish,
sharks, and other marine vertebrates are examples of fish that are being overfished. Overfishing
was addressed at the World Summit in Johannesburg, Africa in 2002 (Bell 17). At the World
Summit, many experts in the field of overfishing agreed that the most effective way to battle
overfishing is by creating and establishing more MPAs around the world. Although overfishing is a
serious problem, there are ways to solve the problem like creating Marine Protected Areas.

Humans are the ones responsible for the damage caused to our oceans by overfishing. MPAs are
essential to preserve and protect the biological diversity of the oceans (Kechington, Ward, Hegerl

As long as I can remember, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory has been a childhood movie
favorite of mine. I had grown up watching several of Gene Wilder s movies and Willy Wonka

first time I watched the original version since it was first released in 1971 and I hadn t even been

to be released in 2005 titled, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. After all, the movie stared Johnny
Depp and was directed by Tim Burton. I had liked Johnny Depp since he starred in 21 Jump Street
and there are too many well known Tim Burton movies to discuss. However, it did not even take

King s Personal Horror
Stephen King experienced a hard early life. With his father leaving his family, living paycheck to
paycheck, and living in the small town of Durham, Maine, pushed him to into the world of writing
to escape his tough life. As a child, he witnessed his friend get struck and killed by a train, and
although he has no recollection of this event, his mother, Nellie Ruth said that, He returned
speechless and in a state of shock. It is for these and the reasons I am about to tell you that Stephen
King s Carrie, Cujo, and It, are all influenced by his personal experiences. King s Carrie is
perhaps one of his best books, and for sure one of his most important ones, as it enabled him to
write full time. Carrie has all the raw energy of a writer just trying to make it through. This first
point that came to me when I looked at Carrie is the strong feminist position it has, this is strange
for King, but for a writer of his class, and for one of his first books, this can show you what is to
come. Carrie s mother acts as the masculine force pulling women down, and Carrie herself
symbolizes the feminist movement in itself (Lusted 28). The best way to create a stories
characters is to build them off of something or someone you know in your life. King based Carrie
not only off the feminist movement, but a girl he knew in high school. In his autobiography, On

42. The Importance Of False Prophets
Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be
ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth. (2 Timothy 2:15) A false teacher can be anyone
in a position of spiritual authority. Ever heard of wolves in sheep clothing? This idiom is used to
describe those playing a role contrary to their real character. Wolves don t often attack wolves, but
they do go after sheep. The same is so when it comes to false prophets they deceive people by
bringing destructive teachings, often appealing to our fallen nature.
By definition a false prophet is one who falsely claims the gift of prophecy or divine inspiration, or
who uses that gift for evil ends. Many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as
coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the
antichrist. Watch out that you do not lose what you have worked for, but that you may be
rewarded fully. Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not
have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes
to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take him into your house or welcome him.
Anyone who welcomes him shares in his wicked work (2 John 7 11). False prophets prophesied

In the novel, one can see the characters from many different perspectives. In the book the writer
reveals much about Lester s life by highlighting his childhood experiences where his father
abandoned him as a teenager. The book also mentions how Lester was bullied in his childhood
just to paint a picture on what could have caused Lester to be the person he is in adulthood.
When one reads the book he can tell a lot about the characters as more information about their
background is revealed. Behrani s background as a military principal and financial prowess is
revealed much in the book, showing reasons behind his quest for success just to reclaim his lost
mighty. Perelman s movie on the other hand minimizes the novel by removing several scenes as
portrayed in the novel. The movie briefly mentions the issue of Lester being abandoned by his
father but there is not much detail about his childhood. The movie also changes a number of
scenes on the plot of the story. For instance in the last scene of the book, Behrani finds Kathy in
his home following the death of his son. He then tries to strangle her to death before taking his
wife s life along with his own. Kathy and Lester are arrested. In the movie s final scene, Kathy
finds both Behrani

44. Arthur Merric Bloomfield Boyd Analysis
Arthur Merric Bloomfield Boyd was born on the 24th of April 1920 and was a leading
Australian artist through the late 20th century. Boyd s work ranges from impressionist
renderings of Australian scene to starkly expressionist figuration, and numerous artworks
highlight both genres. His work features humanitarian issues and many themes such as love,
loss and shame. Boyd comes from an artistic family. This had an affect on his artwork as both of
his parents, Merric and Doris Boyd, were potters and painters while his brothers were both artists,
one a sculptor and the other a painter. This artistic influence helped lead him into becoming an
artist as he was exposed to art from a young age. His humanitarian influences and social
conscience came from writers such as Dostoyevsky and Kafka. Boyd was exposed to these writers
by Jewish immigrant artist Yosl Bergner who was his teacher at Melbourne night classes, which
Boyd started attending at age 14 after leaving school. After this time his talent was nurtured by his
grandfather who was a landscape artist.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His work then moved into a distinct period of depictions of fanciful characters in urban settings
after moving to the inner city where he was influenced by his contact with European refugees.
After this he was conscripted where he did not enter active duty but did create expressionistic
wartime artworks. these artworks were considered powerful and painful images of the outcast as
they pictured those not fit for service and the crippled. An example of this is Cripple in smoke
from factory chimney. This artwork pictures a crippled person created out of the smoke from a
nearby chimney. After the war Boyd, together with John Perceval founded a workshop at
Murrumbeena and started to create other forms of art including pottery, ceramic painting and

Introduction
Solidification is process through which crystalline materials, such as metals and alloys, transform
from non crystallized state into crystallized state. This process is a basic technique used in alloy
casting, growth of single phase semiconductors, welding and etc. We need to understand what s
happening during solidification and how it affect the structure of final materials, which directly
determines the properties of products. Besides, a proper set of solidification parameters also helps
to improve energy efficiency.
Principle of solidification process
1. Nucleation
The whole process begins with the creation of a combination of atoms randomly, followed by
stabilization of these tiny cores (homogeneous nucleation). Thermodynamics plays an important role
because it determines if the liquid continues to solidify or remains in equilibrium.

Controlling and problem solving| 3. Motivating and inspiring| 1) Setting a direction vs. planning
and budgeting a. Setting a direction is more inductive (through patterns, data) i. Important for
short/long term goal setting b. Planning works best as a complement for direction setting 2)
Aligning vs. Staffing c. Aligning: getting people to understand a vision, which leads to
empowerment ii. Clear target, same direction d. Management is more about organizing people;
structure, training, incentives 3) Motivating vs. Controlling e. Motivation: energizes people
satisfies basic human needs iii. Sense of achievement, recognition, involvement iv. Coaching,
feedback v. Reward Informal Relations are important help coordinate leadership activities. Well
led businesses tend to recognize and reward people who successfully develop leaders. Nov. 9
