Compare And Contrast Philips And Matsushita
NV Philips and Matsushita Electrics are both electronic appliance companies in international
markets. Philips was established in Holland by Gerard Philips and his father in 1892 and it started
as a company producing light bulbs. Matsushita was established in 1918 in Japan by Konosuke
Matsushita, and at that time, the company s main business was in double ended socket. They are
competitors in many ways and at the same time they corporate with each other and form strategic
alliance relationship. Throughout process of internationalization, both companies developed
transnational strategy. However, each company adopts very different strategies. Philips relies on

Firms internationalize for couple of reasons. Philips expands their overseas market because home
market is limited and Matsushita expanded as efficient operation did not guarantee growth
anymore. Basic strategies adopted by these two companies evolved during their process of
internationalization. As competitions become brutal, firms need to change strategies to cope with
T high pressure for cost reduction and strong pressure of local responsiveness. Transnational
strategy is now a feasible approach. Companies reduce cost to be competitive and the same time
modify products to satisfy local customer preferences. However, firms structures are very different.
Philips has a decentralized structure as Matsushita s operations are highly centralized. Strategic
human resources are also vital so both companies send expatriate experts to offshore subsidiaries.
Philips and Matsushita also form strategic alliance relationship with each other. Companies strategy
is highly correlated to their basic strategy and the fit between strategies is vital to company s

Mongol Barbaric Dbq
Throughout the years, historians have found evidence to show that many ethnic groups were
barbaric, like the Germanic tribes: Ostrogoths and Visigoths, or the nomadic tribes: Huns and
Mongols. Though the evidence is strong to show the primitive nature of the Ostrogoths,
Visigoths, and Huns, the evidence is ambiguous for the Mongols. From what historians have
collected who they conquered and people they were close to conquering they believe that
Mongols were barbaric; however disagreements can be made, because of the lack of evidence and
prejudices we have been raised along side with. This can be shown in their military, their
commerce, their laws, and how they rule their conquered lands. In their military, they had a certain

Athens And Rome Vs. Rome
#2Athens and Rome are two separate paradigms; they both had a certain standard to a way of
life. Athens was civic and Rome was technocratic towards their people. Meaning that Athens was
people based which gave the public responsibility to how they wanted to live because they had a
voice. They also had customs that connected them as people, like social gatherings. Rome on the
other hand was technology based which was more about how to make money or spend money to
fix a problem. If these two civilizations were given a problem they would have different solutions
because of their way of thinking. If they had a transportation problem for instance in the 21 century,
one would look at it in an emotional human way and the other would look at it in an economical
way.
The Greeks could asks the people to maybe car pool and have an economic incentive, so people
will want to do this to decrease traffic jams. In a sense you could peer pressure some one for a
good cause to show that this is what you should be doing and if you don t you will feel shame
from not carpooling. Every one is doing it is now giving a positive for the community and solving
a problem with out spending money. Where the Romans solution is to look at the town or cityand to
just build more roads. Which will then begin to create a disconnect to its people, creating a
different dynamic to the life style of the community. Now the people are designed to act and

its fifth day with little to no change in status. Dykes continues to be demanding and disinterested
in offering any concessions and continuing his initial demands. Dykes is now giving deadlines
for which he intends to escalate with violence. We feel the justification for preparation of a plan

In this case, the planning and preparation allowed for additional actions by the team to protect
Ethan by ensuring he was in a place outside of the direct assault. We look to the onset of this
event including the murder of a man whom had not given Dykes what he requested. We feel this
behavior would have lead to similar harm to Ethan and law enforcement. These actions needed
to occur when they did as Dykes behavior would have continued to escalate. Ethan s health is a
concern. Should Dykes increased agitation change the ability to provide Ethan medication this
could be jeopardized. Dykes is angered by what he sees as a lack of action to meet his demands.
As time continues on, this will not improve. With these failing negotiations we feel there is no less
risky alternatives available. The factor that changes this is the fact that there is one point of entry
into this venue. Negotiations were ineffective and did very little to change anything. Losing
negotiations could drastically diminish the ability to plan for and execute an assault due tot he
challenges of this venue. Using the daughter as a TPI and offering this concession prior to an

How Does Caning Affect Children
Caning is not good for children development as it will affect the children s mental and behaviour,
the children s relationship with others and children s learning process will be affected badly.
BODY PARAGRAPH
1)In long term, caning will affect the children s mental and behaviour of children. According to
neuroimaging evidence, corporal punishment could disturb the brain part that involved emotion
and stress handling. Research with 35,000 participation that being carried out by University of

This proof is also supported by a statement from Joan Durrant, who is a child clinical psychologist

The Negative Analysis Of Uber Technologies
Presently, many companies are seemingly willing to practice corporate political activism. Uber
Technologies Former CEO Travis Kalanick had been very vocal about his political positions.
Unfortunately, the support faced harsh criticism from Uber s customer base over the support of
President Trump and his political decisions. Kalanick, as well as other technology CEO s, joined
Donald Trumps business advisory council as a way for their company to have a relationship with
the Republican Party as well as with the White House.
However, Kalanick defended his decision to show support for Donald Trump as well as ignoring
the taxi strike in saying, We ll partner with anyone in the world as long as they re about making
transportation in cities better, creating job opportunities, making it easier to get around, getting
pollution out of the air and traffic off the streets (Fiegerman, 2017). Many did not respect the
decision to ignore the taxi strike as customers believed that Uber should have shown their support.
Kalanick s decision to cross picket lines caused customers to protest by chaining themselves to the
main entrance of their office building. The internal and external pressures resulting from Kalanick s
decisions led to his resignation from the business advisory council, explaining that, joining the
group was not meant to be an endorsement of the President or his agenda but unfortunately it has
been misinterpreted to be exactly that (Romm, 2017). Since Uber is not

Sacrifice In The Third Wish By Joan Aiken
Why do we risk our happiness for others? In The Third Wish, by Joan Aiken, Mr. Peters and his
wife, Leita, both have to make sacrifices for each other. In this short story, a man named Mr.
Peters is introduced when he sees a swan who was stuck in a thorn bush. Once he helps the swan,
it is revealed to him that the swan was actually a forest king. The king grants Mr. Peters three
wishes. Mr. Peters uses his first wishfor a wife. He gets a wife named Leita, who is truly a swan. Mr.
Peters realizes that Leita misses her old life with her sister. He dolefully uses his second wish to
turn Leita back into a swan so she can be happy again. Mr. Peters, from then on, visited Leita and
her sister. He dies peacefully and happily and never uses his third wish. In The Third Wish, the

Peters helps a swan adhered in a thorn bush. This act shows how kind and caring Mr. Peters is. At
the beginning of The Third Wish, Mr. Peters stops to help a swan when he hears it crying out in
pain. Since the swan was caught in the thorns, it meant that Mr. Peters risked getting hurt. For
instance, the text says, nevertheless, he managed to release the swan from the thorns. This quote
explains how Mr. Peters could have been injured by the thorns, but he wanted to help the swan.
The theme of sacrifice is made clear when Leita, Mr. Peters wife, decides to stay with Mr. Peters
and gives up her whole life. Leita was truly a swan at first so when she made her decision, Leita
gave up ever communicating with her sister again and being a swan. To show that she did this,
the text states the Leita says, No. I could not be as unkind to you as that... I will stay with you.
Leita knows that she can t go back but she doesn t want Mr. Peters to be

From the theories of Sigmund Freud to humanistic theories of personality, how one views others
greatly influences how one sees the world and vice versa. Because the theories are so different
some suggesting that human nature is ill, evil, or bad, while others believe it is intrinsically good it
is easy to see why people s views of others and the world are so different. However, each person has

Essay on North Shore Oil Exploration and Drilling
North Shore Oil Exploration and Drilling
There is some evidence that oil exists under the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. This has led to
a huge debate as to whether or not companies should be allowed to drill for this oil. A law was
passed by congress in 1980 that states production of oil and gas from the Arctic National Wildlife
Refuge is prohibited and no leasing or other development leading to production of oil and gas from
the [Refuge] shall be undertaken until authorized by an act of Congress. If these oil companies do
succeed in abolishing this law, then a land that has stood virtually untouched would be destroyed
for what the United States Geological Survey has estimated is only 6 months worth of oil.

Congress would have liked to time the drilling in ANWR in correlation with the highest world
market prices for oil. Since those prices are so hard to predict, America feels like now is as good
of time as any. Elliott Negin, spokesman for the Natural Resources Defense Council in
Washington, said the oil in ANWR will have no effect on the global price of oil because it is to
small an amount. Even pro drilling lobbyists agree that the amount of oil in ANWR would not
affect America s oil problems. Why then do they continue to lobby pro drilling in the refuge?
What are some benefits of drilling in ANWR? Unemployment is currently at an all time high.
With the establishment of oil rigs and drills around the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, there
would be a total of 700,000 new jobs for Americans. True, these jobs will disappear in a few
decades when the drilling in completed, but maybe by then there will be new opportunities for the
workers. By drilling in ANWR, we would reduce the amount of imported oil by 5 percent which is
equivalent to one year s total imports. It would also keep the price of gas lower here then in other
countries around the world. In response to the argument that this is undisturbed country, the Inupiat
people have lived there for centuries, using hunting and gathering techniques. Even the Inupiat
Mayor has publicly endorsed the idea of drilling in ANWR. He

The Origin Of The Banshee
Connor Harkins
Jonathan Tyler
English 102 10
1 February 2017
The Banshee The banshee is a phantom that is said to wail whenever a person is about to die. It
would visit a friend or a family member of a Irish person who was dying. People are afraid of
them because it shows us our mortality. We are afraid of death because we do not know what is
on the other side, so naturally we would be afraid of the harbinger of death. The origin of the
banshee is intertwined with death as it is in its spectre form. There are many legends that the
banshee came from. It ranges from women who took alcohol to mourn the death a member of a
powerful family to ancient goddesses that the Christian church turned into a demon. No matter what

The banshee is said to be a woman that were paid with alcohol to mourn the death of a person.
The family would pay the woman, who was normally and alcoholic, in drinks to cry at the grave a
their deceased loved one to make it seem like they were very respected. The Christian church did
not like this, so came about the story of the banshee. One theory of the banshee is that they are
being punished for their insincere mourning and alcoholism. They haunt a family and not a place
unlike many ghosts. The banshee probably haunts the family out of loyalty to them from their life
of mourning for the family. The origin of the banshee goes farther than that, it has a more
supernatural myth to it.
In Irish myth, the banshee is considered a fairy and so the church says that is it a demon wailing
that it is losing souls to heaven. It is said that the banshee comes from the ancient god race known
as the Tuatha De Danann. According to Carolyn White in A History of Irish Fairies, The Tuatha De
Danann, the divine folk descended from the mother goddess Dana or Danu, were gods from
Greece (some say, of the Golden race) who came to Ireland enshrouded by a magical mist which
hid the sun and their appearance for three days and nights... (White 18). This supports the idea of
the church that the banshee is a demon, because it is the descendant of a Pagan goddess. Women
are that to be bringers of life because they give birth to children. So the tale of the banshee being the

The Role Of Playing Game ( Mmorpg )
Runescape is one of the first massive multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG) that
many gamers have started with. Released in 2001, there were no games like it out there for its
time. For many of us gamers, Runescape was the beginning of an amazing journey. The game was
free to play on your web browser, no download necessary. Once your account was created you
were able to start your adventure in the exploration of Runescape, there is no better gameyou can
get lost in. Runescape is the missing piece of achievement, adventure, and connection that you
are searching for. The concept of the game was revolutionary from the questing to the combat
system. Players would have complete control on what they wanted to do. There was a ray of
activities such as what type of combat, crafting, merchanting, cooking, mining, hunting, and
many others. With each milestone you hit a player would feel a sense of accomplishment. The
longer it took to reach that goal the more satisfying it was. This sense of achievement was what
all of us craved. For many players this system of gameplay at this level was never seen before.
We were used to the console games such as Zelda or Super Mario that had a set storyline to
follow and a goal to reach, once completed the game was over. Unlike the typical game of the time
Runescape was a never ending story. There was always something to achieve and conquer within
the game setting it apart from Zelda and Super Mario. Each day there is always something

Deborah Cowen s The Deadly Life Of Logistics Essay
In many aspects globalization is usually described as a process where due to an increase in
trade, technology and cultural exchange the world is getting more interconnected making
distances less and less which is giving rise to a capitalist economy. According to (Wallerstein
2004), world economy has always been capitalist . It s like everyone is specialized to perform a
certain task and that s how the idea of division of labour is built within us which ties us to the
system of capitalism. Competition and the will to earn more is ingrained which creates state
subsidies and makes strong states to use their power to prevent weaker states from succeeding.
However, Deborah Cowen s The Deadly Life of Logistics published in 2014 by the University of
Minnesota Press justifies globalization in a very complex way which opens the eyes of readers
to the violent aspects relating to it. In the title words such as trade and logistics may deceive some
users with the content contained in the book to business decisions and the revolution in military
affairs. Nonetheless, this is not the case as this book aims to describe the art and the science of
logistics. Cowen suggests that logistics is part of the reason of the changing world in political
agendas, security levels, rise of global production, labour practices and warfare. Cowen uses critical
theory to elaborate the revolution in logistics by going through the civilization of logistics and
going in depth of the economic and and

Taiwan were under control of the KMT military forces and Chiang was the cause of hundreds of

The scene was set with fog with blue and purple tones with her weary high pitched voice coming
from the unknown at first, ultimately holds our attention in suspense. It was visually haunting
as she looked like a corpse in rags. Another thing I noticed in the banquet scene a female
performer comes in to entertain Macbeth and does a dance with a mask. Throughout the dance
she is holding two other masks and alternately covers her face with them as she swirls, bends and
crosses the stage. The masks change with such fluidity you would hardly notice, even the type
of masks and the character they express; happy, fearful and angry. For me she was almost telling
Macbeths prophecy. All of the elements of this production made it a continuous seamless, ever
growing, rhythmic sweep , especially the final scene when Au Shu is up on his perch telling his
soldiers they cannot lose as the prophet told him so, unless the forest moves. It was then that his
own soldiers fire arrows at him creating a slow death with Au Shu doing a back flip from a
raised level to stage level in full view. It was incredible and symbolized his fall from grace. His
own soldiers took Macbeths head and brought it to the rebel army to save themselves as they could
see Macbeth had gone mad. It was certainly a tragedy, from start to finish the psychological and
emotional values were apparent. Even though the play was in Taiwanese and the subtitles were
simple English the two different styles blended together so nicely that the relationship, goals, the
guilt and fear then the demise of the Macbeths was created with such an

Examples Of Naturalism In Sister Carrie
Analysis of naturalism in Sister Carrie
Naturalism emerged in the mid of the 19th century in America as an outgrowth of realism. It was
inspired by Charles Darwin s theory of evolution. Naturalism stresses the idea that any individual
has a predetermined destiny influenced by social factors and that one s character is formed on the
basis of heredity. One s life is governed by environment and heredity which can t be controlled by
anyone. Sister Carrie is a novel describing the harsh realities of the American people in an era of
urban consumerism which defined that period. Dreiser chose to name his novel Sister Carrie
because he was inspired by the events which occurred in his own sister s life.

Why And How Should We Regulate Coastal Fisheries
Why and how should we regulate coastal fisheries
Coastal fisheries of the UK offer a vast amount of importance to us for things like food and
medications, but after decades of over fishing and destructive fishing methods our fish stocks
have been left severly depleted. Across the UK there has been a lot of initiatives towards
managing our coastal fisheries to meet both environmental and economic goals. The need for
regulating coastal fisheries is not a new idea, it has been used for several hundred years. Currently

In 1993, AU Bon Pain Company purchased the Saint Louis Bread Company. In 1995, top
management at Au Bon Pain instituted a comprehensive overhaul of the newly acquired Saint
Louis Bread locations. The overhaul included altering the menu and the dining atmosphere. The
vision was to create a specialty cafe anchored by an authentic, fresh dough artisan bakery and
upscale quick service menu selections. This acquisition proved successful for Au Bon Pain.
Between 1993 and 1997, average unit volumes at the revamped locations increased by 75% and
over 100 additional locations were opened. In 1997, the bakery cafes were renamed Panera bread in
markets outside of St Louis.

Examples Of Ignorance Of The Law
Ignorance of the law will not likely be an adequate defense when involved in a liability suit. That
s the reason for the saying that ignorance of the law is no excuse. The illegality of some driving
acts is apparent to most people such as violating the speed limit, running red lights, or passing a
school bus while its lights are flashing.
However, there are many ways that drivers can unknowingly commit negligent driving acts. If you
get into an accident while doing any of these four examples of negligence, you ll be found at fault,
or at least partially at fault:

Theatre Evaluation
The world of Theatre allows people from all around the world an outlet to express themselves and
convey a message or tell a story. The question as to what the ideal theatre performance would be
from an audience s perspective ultimately depends on many different factors; including age, culture,
traditions, preferences etc. However, for me personally as a member of the audienceI would want to
see several different elements incorporated into the show and ultimately I would want a clear
concreate story line to follow.
First and foremost I would want the location of the show to be in an open arena stage. Not only
because of the practicality of this type of location but also because it offers an almost aerial view,
depending on where your sitting at the performance. Plus, the audience gets more of an
immersion into the show with this setup as well. Considering the fact that they nearly surround
the actors on all four sides. Allowing for multiple focal points on the stage, giving each individual
member of the audience their own preference as to what or who they want to observe. In this
setting I would like to see a Melodrama being performed that incorporates a broad display of

performance, adding the crucial amount of sinister drama to the villain or heavenly light to the
hero. These elements I would want to be used in a very thoughtful consistent manner. For example,
a harp should play every time the female love interest appears or the villain s entrance should be

Anyone who is sexually active can acquire an STD. However, the CDC states that while sexually
transmitted diseases affect individuals of all ages, STDs take a particularly heavy toll on young
people. CDC estimates that youth ages 15 24 make up just over one quarter of the sexually active
population, but account for half of the 20 million new sexually transmitted infections that occur
in the United States each year (CDC, 2017). STDs are an apparent problem in the United States
and a growing problem. Factors Related to the High Rate of STDS in the Bronx In general, there

While lack of education and economic barriers are two large factors related to the problem,
another crucial factor related to the high rate of STDs in the Bronx is age. For several reasons,
adolescents are at a higher risk for developing sexually transmitted diseases and statistically are
the population with the highest rate of STDs in the United States. The CDC states The burden
of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) among people aged 15 24 years accounts for nearly
half of all STDs reported in the U.S (CDC, 2015). Adolescents are a vulnerable population as
they are undergoing so many changes and this can make them more susceptible to partaking in
risky sexual behavior. In the Bronx, adolescents make up the largest population at 25.3% of the
total population (U.S. Census Bureau, 2016). The high rate of STDs in adolescents and the large
population of adolescents in the Bronx correlates with the high rate of STDs in the Bronx. The
issue of an education barrier can have a detrimental effect on a population when it comes to
healthcare, especially sexual healthcare because it is not something people tend to discuss openly.
It is important that people receive some sort of sexual education so that they can keep themselves
and others safe and healthy. Without this education, people will not have the proper knowledge
base on which to make the right decisions when it comes to their sexual health and well being. It is

Gene Testing Pros And Cons
Gene knockout is a revolutionary biotechnology technique which can be used to tremendously
advance the field of science, and lead to breakthroughs which can help the human race as a whole.
This method, compared to others, hosts many advantages that other biotechnology techniques do
not posses.
Gene knockout is a process in which a scientist deletes a gene in an organism and replaces it with a
gene that is artificial and does not function like the original. While most of the time scientists will
delete a whole gene, they may also choose the alternative, which is to delete part of a gene. As of
today, gene knockout is in the experimental state. This means that the concept is being tested on
mice. Due to the fact that mice are the test subjects, they re genes are being configured, deleted, or

Scientists find out what a gene does through gene knockout because when they input the artificial
gene into the organism, they observe what the mouse is no longer doing. Due to the fact that the

the original gene (University of Molecular biology and bioinformatics, 2011). The changes that the
mouse may experience could be a very minute detail, or they could be something that greatly affects
the mouse, this is how scientists find out how important a gene is. Knockout mice offer other

an unfortunate heroin addiction. Following this publication and its subsequent upheaving

Many seem to think that Born in the U.S.A. is an extremely patriotic song in which Springsteen
is almost proclaiming how proud he is to be an American but this is far from reality. The song
actually deals with the Vietnam War and the suffering that occurs when veterans come back
home. One of Springsteen s verse makes this scene quite a real one for us as listeners, Come back
home to the refinery/ Hiring man said son if it was up to me/ Went down to see my V.A. man/ He
said son, don t you understand (Springsteen). This particular verse deals with the struggle that many
veterans had when they came back home and began looking for jobs.
Vietnam was unlike any other war America had been a part of before. First and foremost, most
people consider the war a loss for America. The main objective of the war was to stop the spread of
Communism to South Vietnam. American troops were able to accomplish this task but as soon as
they were pulled out and sent home, the North invaded the South and took over. In the end
Communism had spread to South Vietnam. Returning troops are generally welcomed home like
the heros that they are. Take World War 2 for example, the troops coming home for combat were
welcomed with parades all across the country, but not after Vietnam (COL. Jack Jacobs, U.S.

Once the law is set or made there must be a force to compel obedience from subjects of that law.
Karma law is a conception or an idea developed by founders of Hinduism, presumably by the
Aryans and may have been later adopted by reformers like Sri Krishna and Buddha, who passed
on this idea to their followers. Although Karma laws are associated with a set of moral values and
ethical conducts, no one is compelled to follow and practice such values and ethics because there is
no authority to enforce that law.
To enforce means, to encourage subjects to follow these laws in return for rewards or to discourage
would be criminals from breaking the law through threats of punishments. To implement any law
there must be a mechanism of enforcement. To say that a law can act on its own is an implausible
proposition.
In fact, man made laws could not be implemented without the involvement of enforcement bodies
like the police force, prosecutors, judges and courts of laws. For instance, in any country there are
laws enacted to prevent stealing, an act which is pernicious and could cause disorder to social life.
Punishments appropriated by law for acts of stealing could be a fine, caning or

Summary Of The Limits Of Friendship By Maria Konnikova
Maria Konnikova s essay The Limits of Friendship, analyzes the impact of social media on close
relationships, addressing the people impacted by social media use. This essay published in The
New Yorker, a weekly magazine with scholarly authors, to inform the public on social media s
impact on our lives. She finds that social media has created a dependency on technology and online
interactions. Konnikova strives to inform that social media is decreasing close relationships, and
persuades that it will impact our future. She argues on the impact of increased dependency on social
media on the Dunbar number, hindering the development of future generations. Konnikova
succeeds using strong logicand scientific reason as well as appealing to emotions; however, she
fails to prove her credibility over the topic and instead relies on the credibility of Robin Dunbar.
To develop her argument, Konnikova supplies the reader with logic by using real life examples.
One example being notifying the audience of the research that the Dunbar number correlates with
brain size because it is simple to understand that group size and brain size flow together (par 1).
Konnikova applies Dunbar s historical findings to validate the size of a standard group (par 4).
Showing the reader that the Dunbar number accurately functions in society. Another example is her
use of clarifying the Dunbar number by examining Christmas cards in relation to social networks
(par 5). This enables the reader to have an

Hunger Is An Ugly Side Effect Of Poverty Essay
Introduction Hunger is a current social issue that plays a role in many American families who
are living in poverty. Although poverty is a major issue in its own category, hunger is an ugly
side effect of poverty. Living in poverty has long term negative impacts on the overall well being
of children. Morales, Sheaford, and Scott (2007) stated, hunger has an immediate impact on poor
people because it represents a threat to one s very survival (p. 368). Children living in povertyare
susceptible to enduring a level of hunger known as foodinsecurity.
Food insecurity was defined as the limited or uncertain availability of foods that are nutritionally
adequate and safe, or limited or uncertain ability to obtain acceptable foods by socially acceptable
means (Siefert, K. (2008). White, Hispanic, Black, and Asian families in the United States are all
faced with hunger. Thus, this may lead to many problems such as: poor nutrition, anxiety,
developmental and psychosocial issues, depression, and chronic diseases. In effort to reducing
hunger in America, federal food programs were constructed. The Food and Nutrition Service of the
USDA administers 15 domestic food and nutrition assistance programs (WHY, 2008).
Children that are faced with food insecurities may have trouble cognitively and physically in
school. To help in end hunger in schools, programs like The National Lunch Program and The
School Breakfast Program was developed. There are a number of immediate, as

Grey s Anatomy has been one of the most popular shows on network television since 2005. While
most critics and fans agree that the first three seasons were the shows best, the storylines in the
later seasons have still been able to add new and progressive ideas into the forefront of the show.
The biggest change in storyline is when they introduced their first LGBTQ identifying main
character, Callie Torres. For many queer fans of the show, the addition of Callie s character was
extremely monumental. As highly regarded lesbian and bisexual blog AfterEllen noted, it was quite

This idea has trickled through the LGBTQ community through the years and as Carrie Wofford
explains in Outweek magazine in 1991, it seems that for some members of the LGBTQ
community, bisexuality does not exist and, they say people [who call themselves bisexual] are
just afraid to come out [as gay] (33). Biphobia is real within the community even today. As seen in
multiple recent studies towards bisexual discrimination, it seems that although heterosexuals are
more likely to express their biphobia, [the] discrimination from the lesbian and gay community,
was statistically significantly higher, than it was expected to be (Allen). However, that is not to
say that all people have these feelings. Support for the LGBTQ community within the
entertainment industry has been progressing slowly over time . Since the B in LGBTQ was
added in the 1990s, bisexuals have faced many issues because they fit in, both the straight world
and the gay world (Exquis). As this site explains, bisexuals not only have to deal with biphobia,

Villa Rica Christian Church
On the fifth of February, I went to my church, Villa Rica Christian Church. In my church, there is
a nursery for kids ranging from birth to two. The first toy was a rectangular box that has shaped
holes on the lid. On the lid, there are four shapes triangle, square, star, and circle. The second toy,
is a panel with four different popups of Sesame Street characters. To trigger the popup, a kid has
to either turn, press, or push a button. The third toy is a child like abacus with five rows of beads
that vary by colors red, yellow, blue, green, and orange.
In the nursery, I examined toys aimed at the sensorimotor stage of cognitive development. This
stage includes actions based on reflexes and the transition to actions based on intentions. Actions
that are satisfying are repeated by the child through a process called primary circular reactions.
Soon after this first stage, the child moves on to the secondary circular reactions or actions that
have an effect on the environment. After experiencing both of these kind of reactions, the child
then advances into more intentional actions. The child begins to have goal directed behavior and
curiosity which leads to experimenting. Lastly, the child will begin to understand symbolic problem

Symptoms And Treatment Of Dengue Fever
Dengue fever is a viral infection that is spread by the tiger mosquito (Aedes Aegypti). It has
black and yellow strips and usually bites in the early morning or at dawn. The virus enters and
breeds in white blood cells. Symptoms typically start appearing five to eight days after being ill.
The virus has five diverse styles of increasing severity. Infection with one category gives lifetime
immunity to it and short term immunity to the other categories. The dengue virus isn t
transmittable and can t be spread from individual to individual. Maximum individuals will only
experience mild symptoms such as an simple fever.
How do you get viral fever?
Viral fever is usually transmitted via the air by droplets from diseased folks, or by touching plague
ridden secretions.
Treatment options
Antimalarial drugs are accessible for the treatment of malaria and even seasonal viral fever; quite
the reverse, there is no drug available for the treatment of dengue. It is treated with helpful measures

Island Biogeography Paper
The purpose of island biogeography is to help take a closer look at the speciation of animals on
mainland landscapes, and compare them to surrounding islands that separated from the mainland.
In this study, the focus is on avian birds and the differences in landscape make up that can
influence speciation. The differences can possibly lead to populations of different speciessettling
apart from one another, maybe leading to the extinctionof one species and the thriving of another.
Although island geography has been a useful tool, it has also been questioned, leading to a new
tool: countryside biogeography. In Wolfe et al. (2015) it is explained how countryside geography
is a tool that can be used to look at different aspects of speciation in

Characteristics Of Coco Chanel
Northouse (2013, p.186) defined transformational leadership as a process whereby a person
engages with others and creates a connection that raises the level of motivation and morality in both
the leader and the follower. It is a process which often incorporates charismatic and visionary
leadership.
Bass (1985) states that the characteristics of transformational leaders in Bass model are idealized
influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual simulation and individual consideration. Through
this four factors we can see how Coco Chanel is a transformational leader.
I personally view Coco Chanel as a transformational leader not based only on how she liberated
women in the 19th century. It is also how she treated the people around her,... Show more content

The United States And Health Care
Early in American history, there was a push for a universal health care plan but the politicians of
the day would never allow the federal government that type of power and control. At his time in
American history healthcare was thought to be a personal issue or at least an issue that would be
left to the states or even smaller government agencies. After World War II many politicians tried
and failed to pass a national healthcare plan until Obama Care was passed and forced on the people
of the United States. The reality is that Obama care is not even a health insuranceplan it just
regulates health insurance and forces every citizen to purchase health insurance even if they don
t want to. This paper will show how the United States and health care went from an individual
personal rights issue and worked its way from nothing to several different health care plans and
finally arriving at Obama Care. Although Obama Care will always be up for debate, since
America is always looking for a new and improved health care plan, this will show why the
Affordable Care Act is not the best plan for America.
Obamacare is based on the idea that the young and the healthy will purchase insurance plans.
Obamacare needs these people that in the past have not typically purchased health insurance to
cover the costs of the guarantees that everyone can get health insurance and the promise to lower
the premiums the poor or disabled will have to pay. Obama Care will not work due to the fact that it

Causes Of Social Media
Social media can be used for many purposes. Throughout the years social media has grown
around the world. As social media is rising, adults and teenagers are joining social outlets such as
Facebook, Snapchat, and Instagram. Even though social media is a big impact in today s society it
could do more harm than good. Social media can cause harm because of isolation, bullying, and it
could be dangerous.
One reason for my belief is that social media can cause isolation. Because of social media
individuals are connected by texting, calling on the phone, or video chatting but this replaces
real interactions and can make an individual feel left out. A study of 1,787 participants expressed
their feelings as I feel that people are around me but not with me. Individuals also expresses, I
feel that people barely know me (Willingham). Also, social media has caused a decline in social
events. Miller McPherson, Lynn Smith Lovin and Mathew Brashear s who are all sociologist s
comments They depicted the rise of internet and mobile phones as one of the major trends that pulls
people away from traditional social settings, neighborhoods, voluntary associations, and public
spaces that have been associated with large and diverse core networks (Hampton). Even though
social media is a significant part of communication at a certain point it could make an individual
isolate themselves and from their surroundings. Another reason for my belief is that social media
can cause bullying. Bullying

American Transcendentalist Writers Essay
Following the influx of the puritanical style of writing in America during the 17th Century by the
Founding Fathers, it could be said that what we now know as the collective `American writing was
once created almost as an effort to distance its own style from that of other European styles.
Perhaps not being incredibly popular outside their own circle of influence, writers such as Ralph
Waldo Emerson and other Transcendentalists began, in the 19th Century, to weave a new form of
writing using philosophy as the `vehicle of thought . While this allowed them to explore new and
untouched areas in the mind, it also greatly influenced many later writers from Henry Thoreau to
the more `popular and recent Mark Twain.
Let us begin with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although some critics may treat Walden as simply a text on the love of nature, Thoreau s message,
and indeed philosophy, seems to lay deeper. Although he never openly criticises the state of
America, there are certainly references to suggest that this text is somewhat a social
commentary or criticism of the society in which he lived. For example he suggests `Better if
[men] had been born in the open pasture and suckled by a wolf, that they might have clearer eyes
what field they were called to labour in . Through this extract, and indeed through much of the
text, we can see that Thoreau uses the image of nature to suggest his own ideal of society. It
seems that by isolating himself from civilisation, he begins to understand himself through self
realisation and thus establishes his own identity. From the question, `Why should they begin
digging their own graves as soon as they are born? , we learn a little of Thoreau s philosophy on
life: he disagrees with the collective identity of the increasingly capitalist America in which he
lives, asking why should we passively comply with a capitalist machine?
Similar to the way in which Thoreau isolated himself from civilisation, poet Emily Dickinson also
attempted to question the values of this new society in which she lived, except this time from
within the seclusion of her own home in Massachusetts.
Clearly Dickinson s poetry was far from anything the American public had

Blue Ridge Manufacturing Case Summary
The firm was considering devoting a greater share of the production resources to the sports line.
What do your results in part two imply about the product line s continued success, and whether the
firm should devote more resources to that line? You should consider and answer the following
questions:
Should the sports line be dropped?
Blue Ridge Manufacturing should drop the sports line because it s operating at net loss of
$247,127. The sports line should consider increasing price while maintaining current market shares
in order to continue operations. Also, indirect cost is high for sports line compared to designer and
children s line hence firm should consider cost reduction items as outlined below.
Can you determine why market share (sales) for the sports line was increasing?
I can t determine why the sales for sports line was increasing. In order to determine the reason I
would like to review previous year income statement for comparison. Also, it would be helpful to
have activities based cost information from previous year for comparison.

items the firm should consider are Designer s Pay, number of unique items, and number of material

What are the benefits of an ABC allocation of indirect costs that a single, volume based allocation

Activity based costing is more accurate because it takes important factors into account before
assigning a cost to a product. It s also more thorough and considers nonmanufacturing expenses as

Dei And Colonia Dignidad
As a layman, sects and cults may not seem all that different. Both are marginal groups and do not
conform to society s typical views of religion. Their classification as new religious movements
then are based solely on their staying on the outskirts of the norm . Two groups that I will be
focusing on specifically are Opus Dei and the Colonia Dignidad. Both are seen as extreme and
strict, and I believe they belong to the same group as one another. Opus Dei seeks to return to the
roots of Catholicism and is unhappy with the way the Catholic Church embraces society. Colonia
Dignidad is unhappy with society, too, although they chose to form a new way of life that followed
a few parts of the fundamental goals of their former church. Both... Show more content on

Negotiations occur in our everyday lives, both in our professional and personal experiences. We

dealing with people and separating the person from the problem. One suggested way to do this in

After taking who the defendant in the case was out of the equation, I next focused on the interests
not the positions. It is good to see someone who has victimized others to be locked away for as
long as possible and receive a just punishment . As part of the second step, my ultimate goal was to
ensure that David received a fair punishment and reduced his likelihood of recidivism for similar
actions. The third step involves inventing options for mutual gain. In this type of situation you do
not want the defendant to gain anything, but if the defense does not feel they are getting something
in return it can drag out the legal process and frustrate both parties. I examined the charges and
determined which were the most important and what the ultimate results I wanted from this plea
agreement. In the fourth step I used an objective criterion. What do others in this type of situation
receive in punishment for these types of crimes? I knew that probation was unacceptable, and that I
had to make a suggestion of what a fair amount of incarceration would be based on impartial sources
of state code and precedent (Fisher, Ury, Patton, 1991). During the negotiation, I attempted to
ensure that there were no misunderstandings or emotions that would obstruct agreements or
reinforce prejudices. I wanted to ensure that not only the other side, but also the prosecutor and
judge in the case understood my perception and basis for

Role Of Religious Life In Medieval Times
The ultimate goal of religious life in medieval times was eternal life with Jesus Christ. Every part
of life was carried out for the glory of God and done in the hopes of the second coming of Jesus.
The monks aimed to establish a school solely in service of the Lord. The objective of living the
religious life was to listen to the voice of Godand function in obedience to Christ. The monks
vowed to always seek peace and walk in the paths of Jesusthrough promoting justice, finding truth,
and practicing patience. Clergy in the medieval times as well as in modern day seek to constantly
exercise devotion to God through their daily lives.

Blast Hole Deviation Essay
1.0Introduction
In underground hard rock mining, drill and blast continues to be the dominant method of
fragmenting rock. Blast hole deviation is an inevitable yet undesirable outcome of small diameter,
long hole drilling. The objective of drill and blast is to unlock a targeted volume of rock for
removal and further downstream processing. However, if poor drill hole accuracy is observed,
outcomes may be significantly different to that which are planned and expected, resulting in
additional cost and time implications. A hole is considered to have deviated if it has not been
collared at the correct location, has not followed the projected path or has not broken through at the
intended position (Kangwa, 2000). Underground mining uses a cyclical methodology with
repetitive steps carried out on a daily basis. As drill and blast is the first stage of extraction, the
accuracy of this step can significantly impact the cost of downstream operations including
secondary drilling, mucking, transportation, ground control, milling, development requirements
and crew requirements (Corcoran, n.d.). This report intends to investigate the common sources of
drill hole deviation, address the cost and design implications of poor drill accuracy and outline
control measures that may be effective in reducing blast hole deviation. Different drilling
technologies will also be examined to understand their impact on drilling accuracy.

THE BATTLE OF GUADALCANAL Essay
Introduction The Battle of Guadalcanal was a very important battleground that ended the Japanese
ground advancement in the Pacific area of operations. Also, after they were defeated and removed
from the island it showed that they were not an unstoppable foe that resulted in boasting the
confidence of the United States and its allies. The amphibious assault that occurred on Guadalcanal
was the first amphibious counteroffensive for the United States after the attacks on Pearl Harbor.
The Japanese were attempting to build an airfield on the island and gain a foothold that would help
to protect their flanks as they continued their offensive campaign through the Pacific. Having an

It was also believed that if the Japanese were able to complete this airfield that it would be too
advantageous for them and would also aid in invading Port Moresby on the Western coast of New
Guinea.
Planning and Preparation In the initial planning there were many debates on who would command
the assault on Guadalcanal. General Douglas MacArthur was the Commander of the Southwest
Pacific Forces and was originally thought of to command the assault. However the Navy expressed
numerous concerns that MacArthur would possibly leave their carriers exposed and the result
placed Admiral Chester Nimitz as the overall Commander. The mission was tasked to the 1st
marine division out of North Carolina that was commanded by Major General Alexander
Vandegrift. General Vandegrift received his orders to perform the amphibious assault on
Guadalcanal on the 25th of June 1942. Immediately General Vandegrift realized many problems he
would have to overcome. Originally he had not planned on deploying his unit into combat until the
beginning of 1943. His unit was newly formed and spread between three different locations. To
make matters worse the majority of his men had little to no combat experience. The majority of the
equipment they possessed was

Westport Home Profile Essay
ABC s new sitcom American Housewife claims Westport, Connecticut is a town where every
idiot has a boat and a labradoodle. Indeed, Westport s defining characteristic is its extravagant
wealth. New York City is only 45 minutes away by train, making Westport a popular location for
adults working in financial or law firms to raise their families. The coastal town offers beaches
and boating on the Long Island Sound and a phenomenal public school system. In addition to
funding the excellent public school system, Westport s wealth creates a beautiful look for the
town. Census Tract 503 is in the sylvan area of Westport. My house sticks out from the large,
renovated colonial houses that scatter the tree filled landscape. It is a small, two story, white
Cape Cod that has not been added to since my great great grandfather built it in the early 1900s.
The five houses that surround my own were all originally built by my great great grandfather as
well, but homeowners have since added or extended floors. My house is dwarfed by those of my
neighbors and the rest of Westport. The distribution of wealth is nearly uniform across the town,
and large house size is consequentially consistent across different neighborhoods. Neighborhoods
closer to the beach like Saugatuck Island and Saugatuck Shores lack heavy tree cover, but houses
are also large and colonial, often constructed of wood or stone. Westport s lavish architecture also
reflects its ornate culture. Among adults, large dinner

Earnings management, in exchange listed companies, is not fraud but a case of caveat emptor for
investors
With the development of the stock markets and the huge grow in the volume of money traded in
them, over the past 20 years a rising attention has been aimed at towards the importance of truthful
and fair accounting. The real interest in how companies chase their financial reporting has
developed in the wake of a multitude of large ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We already mentioned that earning management happens in the world and is very common
practice nowadays, not only in big worldwide corporations, but also in not so big national
companies looking for high accounting numbers, that will help them reach additional bank loans
easily. But, is the earning management policy practiced by the firms, affects the stock prices and
investors decisions. The investment or in other words speculation decisions most of the times
depend on expectations of the future movement of the specific stock. In other words, the majority
of non professional investors or speculators decide to buy or sell a certain stock on basis on their
expectation rather than what is stated in most of books, what they are ready to pay for it, based on
their sophisticated analysis .
For example, if investors see that a company X has reported a 20% growth this year, or became
number one in a specific sector, then the investors presentiment became bullish, creating a good
environment for a significant growth due to speculators expectation.
For example let us take the case of Enron one of the biggest US companies in early 2000 s. Enron
was leading company in electricity, communication, pulp, paper and natural gas sphere. In 2000
Enron Corporation reported nearly $101 billion.

Transnational strategy is now a feasible approach. Companies reduce cost to be competitive and the same time modify products to satisfy local customer preferences. Mongol Barbaric Dbq Throughout the years, historians have found evidence to show that many ethnic groups were barbaric, like the Germanic tribes: Ostrogoths and Visigoths, or the nomadic tribes: Huns and Mongols. Though the evidence is strong to show the primitive nature of the Ostrogoths, Visigoths, and Huns, the evidence is ambiguous for the Mongols. From what historians have collected who they conquered and people they were close to conquering they believe that Mongols were barbaric; however disagreements can be made, because of the lack of evidence and prejudices we have been raised along side with. • 4. Athens And Rome Vs. Rome #2Athens and Rome are two separate paradigms; they both had a certain standard to a way of life. Athens was civic and Rome was technocratic towards their people. Meaning that Athens was people based which gave the public responsibility to how they wanted to live because they had a voice. They also had customs that connected them as people, like social gatherings. Rome on the other hand was technology based which was more about how to make money or spend money to fix a problem. If these two civilizations were given a problem they would have different solutions because of their way of thinking. If they had a transportation problem for instance in the 21 century, one would look at it in an emotional human way and the other would look at it in an economical way. The Greeks could asks the people to maybe car pool and have an economic incentive, so people will want to do this to decrease traffic jams. In a sense you could peer pressure some one for a good cause to show that this is what you should be doing and if you don t you will feel shame from not carpooling. These actions needed to occur when they did as Dykes behavior would have continued to escalate. Ethan s health is a concern. Should Dykes increased agitation change the ability to provide Ethan medication this could be jeopardized. Dykes is angered by what he sees as a lack of action to meet his demands. As time continues on, this will not improve. With these failing negotiations we feel there is no less risky alternatives available. The factor that changes this is the fact that there is one point of entry into this venue. Negotiations were ineffective and did very little to change anything. Uber Technologies Former CEO Travis Kalanick had been very vocal about his political positions. Unfortunately, the support faced harsh criticism from Uber s customer base over the support of President Trump and his political decisions. Kalanick, as well as other technology CEO s, joined Donald Trumps business advisory council as a way for their company to have a relationship with the Republican Party as well as with the White House. However, Kalanick defended his decision to show support for Donald Trump as well as ignoring the taxi strike in saying, We ll partner with anyone in the world as long as they re about making transportation in cities better, creating job opportunities, making it easier to get around, getting pollution out of the air and traffic off the streets (Fiegerman, 2017). Many did not respect the decision to ignore the taxi strike as customers believed that Uber should have shown their support. Kalanick s decision to cross picket lines caused customers to protest by chaining themselves to the main entrance of their office building. The internal and external pressures resulting from Kalanick s decisions led to his resignation from the business advisory council, explaining that, joining the group was not meant to be an endorsement of the President or his agenda but unfortunately it has been misinterpreted to be exactly that (Romm, 2017). This has led to a huge debate as to whether or not companies should be allowed to drill for this oil. Since those prices are so hard to predict, America feels like now is as good of time as any. Elliott Negin, spokesman for the Natural Resources Defense Council in Washington, said the oil in ANWR will have no effect on the global price of oil because it is to small an amount. Even pro drilling lobbyists agree that the amount of oil in ANWR would not affect America s oil problems. Why then do they continue to lobby pro drilling in the refuge? What are some benefits of drilling in ANWR? Unemployment is currently at an all time high. With the establishment of oil rigs and drills around the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, there would be a total of 700,000 new jobs for Americans. True, these jobs will disappear in a few decades when the drilling in completed, but maybe by then there will be new opportunities for the workers. It would visit a friend or a family member of a Irish person who was dying. People are afraid of them because it shows us our mortality. We are afraid of death because we do not know what is on the other side, so naturally we would be afraid of the harbinger of death. The origin of the banshee is intertwined with death as it is in its spectre form. There are many legends that the banshee came from. It ranges from women who took alcohol to mourn the death a member of a powerful family to ancient goddesses that the Christian church turned into a demon. No matter what the origin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The banshee is said to be a woman that were paid with alcohol to mourn the death of a person. The family would pay the woman, who was normally and alcoholic, in drinks to cry at the grave a their deceased loved one to make it seem like they were very respected. The Christian church did not like this, so came about the story of the banshee. One theory of the banshee is that they are being punished for their insincere mourning and alcoholism. They haunt a family and not a place unlike many ghosts. The banshee probably haunts the family out of loyalty to them from their life of mourning for the family. The origin of the banshee goes farther than that, it has a more supernatural myth to it. In Irish myth, the banshee is considered a fairy and so the church says that is it a demon wailing that it is losing souls to heaven. It is said that the banshee comes from the ancient god race known as the Tuatha De Danann. According to Carolyn White in A History of Irish Fairies, The Tuatha De Danann, the divine folk descended from the mother goddess Dana or Danu, were gods from Greece (some say, of the Golden race) who came to Ireland enshrouded by a magical mist which hid the sun and their appearance for three days and nights... • 14. Deborah Cowen s The Deadly Life Of Logistics Essay In many aspects globalization is usually described as a process where due to an increase in trade, technology and cultural exchange the world is getting more interconnected making distances less and less which is giving rise to a capitalist economy. According to (Wallerstein 2004), world economy has always been capitalist . It s like everyone is specialized to perform a certain task and that s how the idea of division of labour is built within us which ties us to the system of capitalism. Competition and the will to earn more is ingrained which creates state subsidies and makes strong states to use their power to prevent weaker states from succeeding. However, Deborah Cowen s The Deadly Life of Logistics published in 2014 by the University of Minnesota Press justifies globalization in a very complex way which opens the eyes of readers to the violent aspects relating to it. In the title words such as trade and logistics may deceive some users with the content contained in the book to business decisions and the revolution in military affairs. Nonetheless, this is not the case as this book aims to describe the art and the science of logistics. Cowen suggests that logistics is part of the reason of the changing world in political agendas, security levels, rise of global production, labour practices and warfare. Throughout the dance she is holding two other masks and alternately covers her face with them as she swirls, bends and crosses the stage. The masks change with such fluidity you would hardly notice, even the type of masks and the character they express; happy, fearful and angry. For me she was almost telling Macbeths prophecy. All of the elements of this production made it a continuous seamless, ever growing, rhythmic sweep , especially the final scene when Au Shu is up on his perch telling his soldiers they cannot lose as the prophet told him so, unless the forest moves. It was then that his own soldiers fire arrows at him creating a slow death with Au Shu doing a back flip from a raised level to stage level in full view. It was incredible and symbolized his fall from grace. His own soldiers took Macbeths head and brought it to the rebel army to save themselves as they could see Macbeth had gone mad. It was certainly a tragedy, from start to finish the psychological and emotional values were apparent. Although poverty is a major issue in its own category, hunger is an ugly side effect of poverty. Living in poverty has long term negative impacts on the overall well being of children. Morales, Sheaford, and Scott (2007) stated, hunger has an immediate impact on poor people because it represents a threat to one s very survival (p. 368). Children living in povertyare susceptible to enduring a level of hunger known as foodinsecurity. Food insecurity was defined as the limited or uncertain availability of foods that are nutritionally adequate and safe, or limited or uncertain ability to obtain acceptable foods by socially acceptable means (Siefert, K. Thus, this may lead to many problems such as: poor nutrition, anxiety, developmental and psychosocial issues, depression, and chronic diseases. In effort to reducing hunger in America, federal food programs were constructed. The Food and Nutrition Service of the USDA administers 15 domestic food and nutrition assistance programs (WHY, 2008). But, that true, does everything in the universe actually end? Numbers; a start with no finish. Numbers, something so simple, yet so complex. Some even considerable it a muscle. Similar to muscles, your brain can be trained and worked for better functionality. But, did you that there s a direct connection between exercising and increased intelligence in humans? In this paper I will be backing up my statement that human intelligence can be increased due to exercise. I will also give a view on the opposite side, using research that hypothetically disproves the idea that human intelligence can be gained through exercise. Then, I will be evaluating my claim, backing up my point by applying reason, utilizing the four tests of an argument and taking advantage of my critical thinking skills to validate my claim. Lastly, I will be concluding and synthesizing my argument. According to a couple studies exercise and intelligence have no connection. Some even suggest that exercise has negative effects on human intelligence. The first study was done by Kaycee M. In this study, the focus is on avian birds and the differences in landscape make up that can influence speciation. The differences can possibly lead to populations of different speciessettling apart from one another, maybe leading to the extinctionof one species and the thriving of another. Bass (1985) states that the characteristics of transformational leaders in Bass model are idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual simulation and individual consideration. • 41. The United States And Health Care Early in American history, there was a push for a universal health care plan but the politicians of the day would never allow the federal government that type of power and control. At his time in American history healthcare was thought to be a personal issue or at least an issue that would be left to the states or even smaller government agencies. After World War II many politicians tried and failed to pass a national healthcare plan until Obama Care was passed and forced on the people of the United States. The reality is that Obama care is not even a health insuranceplan it just regulates health insurance and forces every citizen to purchase health insurance even if they don t want to. This paper will show how the United States and health care went from an individual personal rights issue and worked its way from nothing to several different health care plans and finally arriving at Obama Care. Although Obama Care will always be up for debate, since America is always looking for a new and improved health care plan, this will show why the Affordable Care Act is not the best plan for America. Obamacare is based on the idea that the young and the healthy will purchase insurance plans. Obamacare needs these people that in the past have not typically purchased health insurance to cover the costs of the guarantees that everyone can get health insurance and the promise to lower the premiums the poor or disabled will have to pay. As social media is rising, adults and teenagers are joining social outlets such as Facebook, Snapchat, and Instagram. Even though social media is a big impact in today s society it could do more harm than good. Social media can cause harm because of isolation, bullying, and it could be dangerous. One reason for my belief is that social media can cause isolation. Because of social media individuals are connected by texting, calling on the phone, or video chatting but this replaces real interactions and can make an individual feel left out. A study of 1,787 participants expressed their feelings as I feel that people are around me but not with me. Individuals also expresses, I feel that people barely know me (Willingham). Also, social media has caused a decline in social events. Miller McPherson, Lynn Smith Lovin and Mathew Brashear s who are all sociologist s comments They depicted the rise of internet and mobile phones as one of the major trends that pulls people away from traditional social settings, neighborhoods, voluntary associations, and public spaces that have been associated with large and diverse core networks (Hampton). Even though social media is a significant part of communication at a certain point it could make an individual isolate themselves and from their surroundings. • 43. American Transcendentalist Writers Essay Following the influx of the puritanical style of writing in America during the 17th Century by the Founding Fathers, it could be said that what we now know as the collective `American writing was once created almost as an effort to distance its own style from that of other European styles. Perhaps not being incredibly popular outside their own circle of influence, writers such as Ralph Waldo Emerson and other Transcendentalists began, in the 19th Century, to weave a new form of writing using philosophy as the `vehicle of thought . While this allowed them to explore new and untouched areas in the mind, it also greatly influenced many later writers from Henry Thoreau to the more `popular and recent Mark Twain. Let us begin with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although some critics may treat Walden as simply a text on the love of nature, Thoreau s message, and indeed philosophy, seems to lay deeper. Although he never openly criticises the state of America, there are certainly references to suggest that this text is somewhat a social commentary or criticism of the society in which he lived. For example he suggests `Better if [men] had been born in the open pasture and suckled by a wolf, that they might have clearer eyes what field they were called to labour in . Through this extract, and indeed through much of the text, we can see that Thoreau uses the image of nature to suggest his own ideal of society. It seems that by isolating himself from civilisation, he begins to understand himself through self realisation and thus establishes his own identity. From the question, `Why should they begin digging their own graves as soon as they are born? , we learn a little of Thoreau s philosophy on life: he disagrees with the collective identity of the increasingly capitalist America in which he lives, asking why should we passively comply with a capitalist machine? Similar to the way in which Thoreau isolated himself from civilisation, poet Emily Dickinson also attempted to question the values of this new society in which she lived, except this time from within the seclusion of her own home in Massachusetts. Clearly Dickinson s poetry was far from anything the American public had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is good to see someone who has victimized others to be locked away for as long as possible and receive a just punishment . As part of the second step, my ultimate goal was to ensure that David received a fair punishment and reduced his likelihood of recidivism for similar actions. The third step involves inventing options for mutual gain. In this type of situation you do not want the defendant to gain anything, but if the defense does not feel they are getting something in return it can drag out the legal process and frustrate both parties. I examined the charges and determined which were the most important and what the ultimate results I wanted from this plea agreement. In the fourth step I used an objective criterion. What do others in this type of situation receive in punishment for these types of crimes? I knew that probation was unacceptable, and that I had to make a suggestion of what a fair amount of incarceration would be based on impartial sources of state code and precedent (Fisher, Ury, Patton, 1991). • 49. Blast Hole Deviation Essay 1.0Introduction In underground hard rock mining, drill and blast continues to be the dominant method of fragmenting rock. Blast hole deviation is an inevitable yet undesirable outcome of small diameter, long hole drilling. The objective of drill and blast is to unlock a targeted volume of rock for removal and further downstream processing. However, if poor drill hole accuracy is observed, outcomes may be significantly different to that which are planned and expected, resulting in additional cost and time implications. A hole is considered to have deviated if it has not been collared at the correct location, has not followed the projected path or has not broken through at the intended position (Kangwa, 2000). Underground mining uses a cyclical methodology with repetitive steps carried out on a daily basis. As drill and blast is the first stage of extraction, the accuracy of this step can significantly impact the cost of downstream operations including secondary drilling, mucking, transportation, ground control, milling, development requirements and crew requirements (Corcoran, n.d.). This report intends to investigate the common sources of drill hole deviation, address the cost and design implications of poor drill accuracy and outline control measures that may be effective in reducing blast hole deviation. Different drilling technologies will also be examined to understand their impact on drilling accuracy. 2.0Types of drill hole deviation As described by Singhal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
