What Does Lucifer Symbolize In Dante s Inferno
The smell was horrid as Dante and Virgil reached the bottom of Lucifer s divine
paradise. The warm colors of yellow, orange, and red draped the visiting souls in a
blanket. As if not warm enough, the majestic flames and river of fires made sure all
guests were especially hot, but this heat escaped Dante and Virgilas they descended
into Circle 9 the icy residence of Satan. This Circle was exceedingly cold, as an icy
lake filled the geography of each of the 9th Circles 4 rounds. Contrary to popular
belief, Hellis not all flames as a typical reader would assume. Dante s Inferno
informs the audience that Hell reserves an icy habitat to the world s most odious
offenders aside from it s fiery doom. The Foulest of all beings, (Dante 49) Lucifer,
is described as a massive beast with 3 faces, 6 eyes, and bat like wings that the fallen
angel uses to punish his prisoners. Dante uses this description of Satan to emphasize
the brutal, violent, and excruciating pain the punished will endure, and to stress the
evil that is Lucifer. He also does this to perfect his contrapasso.... Show more content

He is described to have 3 heads one black symbolizing ignorance, one red depicting
anger, and one yellow portraying impotence each assigned to a horrendous sinner.
With his three mouths, Satan chews on sinners Brutus, Judas Iscariot, and Cassius
for all eternity while bloody tears fall from Lucifer s 6 eyes. The Almighty Lucifer
also has two mighty wings (Dante 47) that depict wings of a bat. With this, Satan
forever traps himself in his icy Hell by constantly flapping his wings as an attempt of
escape. Lucy is trapped because half of his body is stuck in the icy while the other is
exposed to the freezing
Risk Of Falling For Individuals With Knee Pain
The purpose of this study is to determine the risk of falling for individuals with knee
pain. Specifically, the knee pains osteoarthritis, chondromalacia patella, and patellar
tendonitis will be evaluated in this research study. This study will utilize a
correlational design to answer the research question: does the location of kneepain
affect the risk of falling? The Single Leg Stance (SLS) and the Timed Up Go test
(TUG) will be utilized to evaluate the risk of falls and balance of individuals.
Research Methods and Designs
The Single Leg Stance (SLS) and the Timed UP and Go test will be used to
evaluate the risk of falling because both tests evaluate balance, which can determine
risk for falls. As balance decreases, the risk for ... Show more content on

Population The population for this research study is individuals with any of the three
types of knee pain: chondromalacia patella, patella tendonitis, and osteoarthritis. The
age of the population will vary from 20 years old to 80 years old. This study will also
include both males and females.
Sample
Patients from Pinnacle Orthopedics will be used for this research study. Patients
with osteoarthritis, patellar tendonitis and chondromalacia patella will be selected. I
will summarize my research study to patients and ask them to complete the two
tests. The sample size is about 20 patients. There will be three sub groups for the
three types of knee pains. Each sub group will have roughly 7 patients.
Materials/ Instruments
This research study utilizes the SLS test, TUG test, and the norms for each test.
Participants will use a chair with armrests for the TUG test and both tests will use a
timer. This study will also use a chart of norms for each test to interpret the data.
Operational Definition of Variables
Risk of Falls. The risk for falls is defined as the possibility for falling. There are
charts with norms for the results of the SLS and the TUG tests. If an individual is
out of the range for his or her age group, then he or she is at a greater risk for falls.
For example, the average time for the SLS is 30 seconds for people aged 20 29. For
the TUG test, a time over 14 seconds indicates a risk for falls. There are more

The Role Of The Mausoleum In Islamic Art

What is the role of the Mausoleum in Islamic art? Islamic art is any artwork that
embraces Islamic theme, mostly created and produced in areas where Islam is the
most dominant religion. However, unlike Christian, Buddhist, and Jewish art that is
made purely for religious purposes, Islamic art serves both for religious and
decorative purposes. Then, because of its intricate designs, the art is known all over
the world for its beauty and detail. For instance, the Taj Mahal is one of the most
famous products of Islamic Art. It was created as a royal mausoleum and is located
in Agra, India (Wolper 920). Thus, the present paper argues that, apart from serving
religious purposes, the mausoleum Islamic art was also used ... Show more content on

To give an example, Emperor Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal, which is the most
famous Islamic mausoleum for funeral purposes, as a tribute to his wife, Mumtaz
Mahal, who had passed on after delivering the couple s last child (Kumar 5). Mahal
was buried in the tomb and later on, when the Emperor died; he was buried in the
same place alongside his wife. Therefore, in Islamic art, one of the most important
purposes of the mausoleum was for the preservation of bodies of important people
based on the belief of life after death. The belief was that the bodies of the dead
would wait for judgment at the mausoleum where they were buried after their souls
had been extracted by the angel of death. Moreover, another mausoleum that was
constructed for entombment purposes is the Al Askari Mosque that was
constructed in Samarra area of Iraq for the burial of the leader Sardab of Caliph al
Mahdi who lived between r. 775 785 (Nielsen 52). The mausoleum resembles a
mosque and was built with a golden dome to show its importance as one of the most
significant Islamic shrines. In Egypt, the mausoleums were referred to as mashhads
and they were devoted to the burial of religious
Importance Of Observation On Church Service
Intro In this paper I have invited my wife s Abuela to our church one Sunday
morning and I will be observing and asking her questions after the service. My
observation will include my thoughts of what she thinks and I will ask questions
about what her thoughts are of the service and other topics we have had in our
religious class. Background A short background of Abuela is that she is from
Puerto Rico, 87 years old, speaks mostly Spanish, no husband and she loves her
great grandkids a lot. I think it s a grandmother thing to just hand money out and
give whatever to the kids because the kids love it when she comes. Last year we
attended St. Patrick Catholic church here in San Antonio and when Abuela came
this summer, this past weekend I figured that I would have something to do my
paper on. We have attended her Catholic church before and although she likes it
dearly, it is not for my family so we asked if she would attend our church.
Observation While in Church Service. Throughout the church service I would
glance over just to get an indication as to what Abuela s thought were, was she
engaged or not into the service message. When we first walled up to our church
which is of Christian religion / belief. Abuela mentioned that there wasn t a Holy
water area prior to entering but she went through the motions as if there was. I
realized something throughout the service, that Abuela speaks mostly Spanish and
the service was in English so I knew that we had

with friends all around the world, however different social media networks have
different reasons such as the use of Facebook, allows you to share moments with
many people at once, view photos/videos, receive updates/comments, keep up
with current news/updates and learn about ways to help others etc. The main
reason for the use of YouTube is that you are able to use videos which are more
visually appealing rather than reading and therefore is all in front of your eyes,
making it much easy to see for entertainment purposes, business advertisements and
many more. The main reasons for the use of twitter are that you able to follow
interesting people, follow trends, good for promoting brands/companies, plenty of
celebrity access, and to the point tweets as you are limited to type less than 140

Hofstede, Kolb and Rath s Critiques
Critique
Three critiques will be explored in this section of the paper including;
Hofstede s critique on the basis of cultural consideration
Kolb s critique on the basis of dynamic group effectiveness
Rath s critique on the basis of situational differences Hofstede s critique is based on
that the world is too diverse for followership theories to be applicable in different
circumstances (Hofstede, 2001). Theories limited to their origin cultures are not
effective, especially when it s dealing with universally occurring issues, such as
followership. In order for a theory to be effective, it must address various issues,
including the society s gender, virtue, identity, truth, and hierarchy (Hofstede
Hofstede, 2005). Kelley addresses four of these areas, leaving out gender, which is
a critical part of societal relations and ultimately, the nature of followership. There
are cultures within which women will behave like passive followers regardless of
the situation for fear of repercussions. In societies that have experienced prolonged
periods of war in recent decades, the females may exhibit the traits of alienated
followers owing to their experiences. Hofstede (2001) expresses that this type of
exclusion leaves no room for culture and no sense of dimensionality. The critique
gives a credible argument, since cultural differences are increasingly becoming an
issue owing to different cultures coming into contact all over the world. While this
happens, there are no
Banquet Scene In Macbeth
It was also a very risky but appropriate play to show Taiwan audiences at the time as
it made political comments on Taiwan s recent history as a political leader called
Chiang Kai shek s tried to take over Taiwan, the parallels are quite evident. Chiang
Kai shek was a military and political leader who joined the Chinese Nationalists
Party in 1918, known as KMT. The people of Taiwan were under control of the
KMT military forces and Chiang was the cause of hundreds of bloody and violent
deaths. In order for Chiang, not unlike Macbeth, he wanted to keep control of his
totalitarian regime so there was a massacre, riots and a famine, they ruled for over 40
years. KMT were still at war with the mainland communists so they enacted the

The scene was set with fog with blue and purple tones with her weary high pitched
voice coming from the unknown at first, ultimately holds our attention in
suspense. It was visually haunting as she looked like a corpse in rags. Another
thing I noticed in the banquet scene a female performer comes in to entertain
Macbeth and does a dance with a mask. Throughout the dance she is holding two
other masks and alternately covers her face with them as she swirls, bends and
crosses the stage. The masks change with such fluidity you would hardly notice,
even the type of masks and the character they express; happy, fearful and angry. For
me she was almost telling Macbeths prophecy. All of the elements of this
production made it a continuous seamless, ever growing, rhythmic sweep ,
especially the final scene when Au Shu is up on his perch telling his soldiers they
cannot lose as the prophet told him so, unless the forest moves. It was then that his
own soldiers fire arrows at him creating a slow death with Au Shu doing a back flip
from a raised level to stage level in full view. It was incredible and symbolized his
fall from grace. His own soldiers took Macbeths head and brought it to the rebel
army to save themselves as they could see Macbeth had gone mad. It was certainly a
tragedy, from start to finish the psychological and emotional values were apparent.
Even though the play was in Taiwanese and the subtitles were simple English the two
different styles blended together so nicely that the relationship, goals, the guilt and
fear then the demise of the Macbeths was created with such an
Study Of A Business Of Financial Consultation Service For...

Final Paper
Preface
After this semester s study of entrepreneurship, I have grasped some basic
knowledge of different types of startups, different contexts, and different roles. Also,
I really want to do my own startup in order to put the knowledge I learned into
practice, and get some practical experience of starting and operating a business. Thus,
I write this paper to analyze which type of startup, context, and role is more suitable
to my business.
Types
I want to do a business of financial consultation service for microВІ and micro
businessemen.
MicroВІ is a kind of business that was created by people who are self employed.
MicroВІ usually is not creative, in which means I just have to follow some
traditional business mode, that is not risky and low cost, of the field I want to do.
What I need to do is to find a good place where customers have a big enough
demand of my product or service and ensure my business is competitive enough in
that area. Besides, the most common way for MicroВІ to advertise their business is to
use the word of mouth and some inexpensive flyers or advertisements in newspaper
etc.. However, I do not think my financial service business fits into MicroВІ, since
my rough plan is to start my financial service around 10 Speare Place, and there are
14,196 finance companies in this area, which is not a big number compared to other
fields, such as real estate and technical service. In addition, individual proprietorships
Venezuela Is A Country With An Exceptional History
Venezuela is a country with an exceptional history. Ever since the collapse of the
Gran Colombia in 1830, Venezuela has been ruled by military leaders until mid 20th
century (CIA). Since the mid 1950s, a wave of democratically elected regimes took
over in which Venezuela flourished and became one of the few leading economic
powers in the Latin American region (CIA). With large oil revenues funding the
government, the country s political and economic institutions became effective, and
what was once a military oppressed environment was now a thriving and liberalized
economy. Unfortunately, many of these institutions began to deteriorate from
corruption and inexperience of officials. Also, Oil prices began to decline and the
country began to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This book shows the transformation of Venezuelafrom being a pluralistic democracy
into a hybrid regime (Javier). Hybrid regimes rule in two ways: they mechanize their
way to power through democratic elections but perform autocratic and dictatorial
practices through political and economic institutions (Javier). In this hybrid
government, the opposition has been allowed to take part in elections, but the
problem is that there is no separation of powers within the system of checks and
balances. The opposition parties have rarely been able to make successful
negotiations.
POLITICS UNDER CHAVISMO
The president s transformation has often been called Chavismo in which his regime
has undermined the separation of power by remodeling institutions, expropriations of
properties and businesses, and extensive social programs aiming to alleviate social
ills (Javier).
THE DOMESTIC AND INTERNATIONAL POLITICAL ECONOMY Experts seem
to see that Chavez modified the economy into an Import Substitution Industrialization
(ISI) style economy (Javier). The main objective of an ISI style economy is to
increase the local production of goods and services. In order to do this, Chavez
implement several protectionist policies to limit foreign competition and help current
and infant industries thrive. As with other countries attempts,
Did Trojan War Begin Over The Love Of Women
Trojan war Laura Gibbons
For my historical investigation I am looking to the Trojan War. My main focus
question is did the Trojan war really begin over the love of a women.
The Trojan War is known as a significant event in Greek mythology. According to
Homer the Trojan War was a battle at Troybetween Paris of Troy and the Spartans
because Paris stole Helen from her husband Menelaus who was the king Sparta.
The battle raged on for 10 years until finally the Spartans were victorious due to the
Trojan horse battle strategy causing the fall of Troy. Evidence of this battle comes
throughout Homers works of Greek literature lliad and odyssey . But were
Homers stories the actual reason of one of history s most talked about wars? Was
his story s a recount of a different battle? Was a woman really the reason to start a
war over? Did Troy actually exist? Was there more too it, did geographical Location
and trade a major issue? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My hypothesis is that the Trojan Wardidn t actually happen because of Helen being
abducted from Sparta, I think that there s more the issue, perhaps a major wealth
issue from a neighbouring society. Archaeologist Like Heinrich Schlieman,
Wilhelm Dörpfeld, Carl Blegen and Manfred Korfmann, have all looked into the site
of where Troy was believed to be and have all found some sort of evidence as so why,
the battle of Troy could not have started all because Helen was
The Life Of Margaret Sanger And Planned Motherhood
Imagine finding yourself pregnant at the age of 30 with your ninth child. You live
in a small apartment and you are unable to feed all of the members of your large
family, also clueless as to how to prevent future pregnancies. This story would not
be too far from reality for many women over a hundred years ago. It is also similar in
ways to the life of Margaret Sanger, a women s rights activist who is responsible for
the family planning movement that started birth control. Margaret Sanger s mother
had 11 children and 18 pregnancies, that definitely took a destructive toll on her
body, and she died at only 46 years old (Yasunari 2000). Margaret took notice of
what happened to her mother and many other women, inspiring her to make it her
life s work to help women have more control over their bodies and families.
Margaret s work grew famous for the beginning of a birth control movement and the
later creation of Planned Parenthood, but it also has a sometimes dark side of
eugenics. She went to college to be a nurse and treated many women who continued
to have children, even though they were wishing to prevent pregnancies. Margaret
saw a correlation between impoverished struggling families and having a large
number of children. Margaret referred to women being slaves to their bodies and
involuntary motherhood, and also that by age 35, motherhood often exhausted
women s bodies (Katzive 2015). She also probably noticed how desperate some
women were to prevent pregnancies.
Eudragit Polymers Be Selected As A Carrier For

nanofibers due to their nice stability, biocompatibility, and nice adhesion over skin
due to excellent swelling property, and presence of surface charge. These charges can

It has also been reported to distort the hyphae and to stunt mycelial growth in
susceptible organisms. The research on graphene scaffold for wound dressing and
cell culture is a relatively new direction that deserves special attention. Enormous
studies in this field so far demonstrated that graphene is antibacterial (Akhavan et
al, 2010), accelerate the growth (Kalbacova et al, 2010), differentiation (Nayak et
al, 2011), and proliferation of mammalian cells (Ryoo et al, 2010), and hence hold
great potential in tissue engineering, regenerative medicine and other biomedical
fields. Graphene is selected as an effective nanocarrier due to its potential for
crossing the plasma membrane and promoting the cellular uptake of pathogen at
infected site. Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov were awarded the Nobel Prize
for their meticulous work in 2010 for ground breaking experiments regarding the
two dimensional material graphene as monocrystalline graphitic films (Novoselov et
al, 2004, Yang et al, 2008). Graphene has unique hierarchical and physicochemical
properties including a high surface area (2630 m2/g), extraordinary electrical and
thermal conductivity (mobility: 20,000 cm2V 1 s 1) through the pie electron cloud

Abstract Abraham Maslow is considered to be the father of Humanistic
Psychology. Though growing up in a cruel household, he accomplished much in
his lifetime. An avid advocate of Human Motivation , Maslow developed many
theories corresponding to the subject. This article goes into detail on his theory of
Hierarchy of Needs and Self Actualization. Maslow put forth the notion of a 5 level
pyramid of needs. Psychological, Safety and Security, Love and Belonging, and
Esteem were considered essential basic needs. These must be fulfilled before a
person can reach the highest level of Self Actualization. Maslow studied a range of

He majored in science, focusing on a future career in humanities. While at CCNY,
Maslow excelled in English and Social Sciences. Trigonometry was not his strong
suit, causing him to be on academic probation in his second semester (Patel, 2012).
In 1926, Maslow s father pushed him to enroll at the Brooklyn Law School (BLS)
to begin law studies. Abraham endured nightly law classes, while still attending
day classes at CCNY. After two months, he dropped out, realizing that law was of
no interest to him. In 1927, Maslow left CCNY for Cornell University in Ithaca,
New York. Due to cheaper tuition, he applied to the College of Agriculture at
Cornell. He majored once again in social sciences to fulfill his dream. Maslow was
disheartened by an Introductory Psychology course that he took, instructed by
Edward B. Titchner (Emrich, n.d.). He found Titchner s teaching in of
Structuralism and his theory of Scientific Introspection dull. At the end of the
semester, Maslow left Cornell to return to New York and attend CCNY once
again. In 1927, Maslow was again studying Humanities and Social Sciences at
CCNY. In 1928, Abraham transferred to the University of Wisconsin after hearing
of its exceptional professors. In 1930, he finally was awarded his Bachelor s
Degree and in 1931 he completed his Master s. After having a hard time finding
employment as a professor, he accepted the position of a Psychology Teachers

Differences Of Kantianism And Utilitarianism
In this paper, I will discuss how Kantianism and Utilitarianism would have
oppositional views on the decision to break protocol in order to save a child life.
Ethical Dilemma:
A child is brought into the emergency department by his mother. The mother is
yelling that her child is not breathing. The nurse runs over and takes the child, runs
inside the emergency room and yells for a doctor. No doctor has arrived, but another
nurse comes into the room and both nurses begin CPR on the child. The nurses talk
to one another and agree that the child needed to be intubated immediately in order to
survive. However, the doctors were unavailable. The first nurse to respond to the
mother decides to intubate the child even though intubation is outside of her scope of
practice and she could be fired for performing the intubation. The nurse intubated the
child successfully and the child is in a stable condition after the intubation.
Utilitarianism:
Utilitarianism is a consequentialist philosophy: the righteousness and wrongness of
actions dependon the result of the actions, not the intent of the actions. Actions are
right if they maximize happiness and decrease pain. It is important to maximize
happiness as a collective, not just maximize happiness the pleasure individually. For
example, there are opportunities in which sacrificing one s own happiness is
acceptable if it results in a greater value of happiness in a community. A Utilitarian
can calculate the net worth of actions by calculating the pain and pleasure it each will
create. However, during events where there is not enough time for calculation, we
can just rely on the rule of thumb, which are basic (common sense) rules, such as not
murdering, lying, or cheating.
Response to action:
An Act Utilitarian would argue that saving the child life was the correct action
because the life of a child outweighs the pain that could result if the nurse lost her
license. There would be a greater amount of pain if the nurse did not intubate the
patient. A child would have died, the mother would have to grieve losing her child,
and the healthcare workers would be distraught because they were unable to save the
child, even though they had the resources and knowledge to do so.

How Managed Care Is A System
Managed care is a system that puts together the financing and delivery of apposite
health care by means of an all inclusive set of services (Docteur, E., Oxley, H. 2003).
Although, managed care can be considered an expansive term that covers many form
of organizations and insurance alternative that includes
Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs), that provides a wide ranging option of
services, over a period f time and at a fixed rate.
Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs), that consist of a group of hospitals,
physicians and providers who are in agreement with an insurer, third party
administrator, employer, or other group so as to provide health care services to
covered individuals;
Point of Service Plans (POSs), that combines the features of the HMO s and PPO s.
with this plan members can select which preference they want to use at the time of
service;
Indemnity or Fee for Service Plans that integrates the characteristics of managed care,
while providing the benefits in a prearranged amount for covered services;
Self Insurance Plans that allows employers and businesses assume financial liability
and the responsibilities of an insurer for their own employees.
In the last four decade, the cost of healthcare services has been on the rise, thereby
leading to the promulgation of the Health Maintenance Organization Act of 1973
(Salmon, J. W. 1995). This act provided the opportunity to control healthcare cost,
through membership of a provider network that

Lester Holt s View of the First Presidential Debate This first presidential debate was
chaos! The two candidates were just screaming over one another, and I couldn t

supposed to be. The two candidates seemed composed for a small period of time
while acting like actual adults running for president. Unfortunately, when the first
question about the economy was asked, Former Secretary Clinton decided to take a
jab at Mr. Trump using a quote he had said about a potential real estate market crash
in 2006. She quoted that Mr. Trump hoped for the market to crash so he could
potentially buy it. To respond, Mr. Trump interrupted her and countered, That s called

Unfortunately, my facts did not impact him in any way and he replied that I was

research on a controversial topic instead of opening my mouth and blurting out
random gibberish. To continue, I had asked Trump of his reputation for
questioning President Obama s U.S. citizenship and his opinions on the topic.
Even though he was supposed to be prepared to be asked this question, since it was
a popular topic, he still flubbed in his thoughts by blaming the controversy itself
and an aide of Clinton. Finally, he foolishly decided to depict himself as a seeker

Summary OfThe Yellow Pill Short Story
Sanity is in the mind of the beholder; one man s reality may not be the reality of
everyone. This becomes a sticking point when two men meet in either a
psychiatrist s office or in the depth of space in the short story The Yellow Pill.
Since both men cannot be in reality, the story takes place in a comfortable office
based on evidence from the story. Throughout the story, Mr. Elton talks with
Gerald Bocek in his office about the details of Jerry s crime. It is at the end of each
conversation they have in the office that proves them to be on Earth. Mr. Elton
tells the police officers to take Gerald out of his office and back to the mental
ward. For example, after their first conversation Mr. Elton says, All right, take him
away. Bring him back the same time tomorrow. The two officers pushed him
firmly toward the door. The officers taking Gerald out of his office every time they
talk shows that they are on Earth and not in space. Gerald would die immediately
if he was taken outside of a spaceship, because of the lack of atmospheric pressure
and oxygen. Gerald also comes back into Mr. Elton s office each day which means
he couldn t have died in space, which would be caused from leaving a spaceship
every time Mr. Elton and him talk. In the story Mr. Elton is discussing the
problems about Gerald Bocek with Helena, but before they had started talking
Gerald had told Mr. Elton to take a pill and that nothing bad would happen. During
Mr. Elton s conversation with Helena he says, I took one three years ago when
they first became available. You d be surprised how little you actually see of what
you look at, especially of people. You look at symbols instead. I had to cancel my
appointments for a week. Mr. Elton is proving that the pills blurred his sense of
reality. This shows that the pills cause hallucination and the reality Gerald is living
in is a messed up reality, furthering the argument for why they are on Earth.
Towards the end of the story after Mr. Elton has taken the yellow pill and Gerald
ejected himself from what they considered the airlock. When Gerald had ejected
himself it is described as, Jerry s chest quickly expanded, then collapsed as a mixture
of phlegm and blood dribbled from his
Ku Klux Klan In The 1920 s Analysis
SUMMARY
Both essays offer valid point of views on the recently debated role of KKK in the
1920 s. The no perspective written by Thomas Pregram acknowledges the large
presence of the second wave Ku Klux Klan and uses earlier views of the Group to
back his argument. His argument is despite the new size of the KKK majority of
America still strongly disagreed and resented the protestant group. The adverse
view point says the KKK was a mainstream political group and this argument is
stated in Shawn Lay s essay. Lay argues that the KKK was mainstream not
necessarily because of the size of the KKK but because of the following the Klan
had outside of its members. He disagrees with the label of an extremist group and

These states are invalid in the argument of popularity as they did not exemplify the
average American but rather the political control of an extremist group at the state
level. Further assurance to the claim of extremism can be found in a quote from a
Klan member himself. A Klan historian David A. Horowitz recalled the position of
the KKK at this time as, the normality of extremism. This solidifies my views of the
Klan s dominance at this time, not even a member of the Klan sees their group as
mainstream. I will agree although the KKK soon will become even more successful
as it gains urban popularity. I believe this is where the proponent of the mainstream
theory has the most validity. The KKK does something new in this era achieving
more urban popularity than ever before. The statistics on the urban popularity are as
follows, up to fifty thousand in Chicago, thirty eight thousand in Indianapolis, thirty
five thousand in Detroit, twenty three thousand in Denver, and twenty two thousand
in Portland Oregon. The presence in of the new Ku Klux Klan is undeniable in cities
across America and is very much different from the previous waves grassroots. The
reason I still believe the Klan was not Main stream despite its urban popularity is the

Examples Of Dishonesty In Everything I Never Told You
The foundation of any successful relationship is honesty and open communication.
In Everything I Never Told You, the Lee family steadily unravels because of deep
loss and rampant dishonesty. The novel opens with Lydia s death and continues as a
flashback of the events leading up to her passing. Celeste Ng places importance on
certain objects and locations as powerful representations of the Lee family: their
desires, challenges, and disappointments. In Celeste Ng s, Everything I Never Told
You, the symbols of the Betty Crocker Cookbook and a discovered pack of cigarettes
reflect that it is impossible to fully know someone when dishonesty is present.

When Lydia does not come down for breakfast, Marilyn opens her daughter s door
and sees the bed unslept in: neat hospital corners still pleated beneath the
comforter, pillow still fluffed and convex. Nothing seems out of place (1 2). The
outward appearance of Lydia s room satisfies Marilyn, as it is organized, with
nothing out of place. Like Lydia, the outside seems perfect, but there is much more
beneath the surface. Lydia conceals her true nature by presenting a facade that
merely mimics what her parents want her to be. After discovering a pack of
cigarettes and a box of condoms in Lydia s backpack, Marilyn looks down at the
two tiny boxes caught in the hammock of her skirt, and the outlines of Lydia s life

these things by hiding failed tests, faking phone calls with friends, and feigning an
interest in science. Because Lydia cannot be honest with her parents, she begins to
make and conceal reckless choices, such as smoking, having sex, and sneaking out of
the house. Upon finding these items in her backpack, Marilyn is confronted with the
reality that much of Lydia s life was unknown to
The Thoughts Of Brahma And The Creation Of God
The Thoughts of Brahma is one of the creation myths in Hindu scripture that explains
the creation of the world that is Earth today. In this story, Brahma, the Hindu creator
God, re creates the Earth every four ages to bring the Earth to its original condition.
To create beings, Brahma meditates and uses his mind. Brahma s thoughts are then
transformed into beings. To begin inhabiting the world, Brahma starts by creating the
evil or demons, this becomes the darkness. Brahma then creates the good, which
became the light. Afterwards, Brahma begins to create human beings. Brahma then
began thinking strangely, and as a result, horrible creatures were created. Brahma
was so horrified with his actions that all the hairs on his head fell out, and he
mistakenly created ghouls as well. Upon moving on from the dark thoughts, Brahma
was able to create all of the other living things we know today.
In Thoughts of Brahma, the central theme of the story is creation. Whether the
creating is good or evil, this myth focuses on explaining the process on how the
world became what it is today, and how its inhabitants were formed.
The Thoughts of Brahma and the Christian creation stories in the book of Genesis
have similarities and differences (Genesis Chapter 1). In both creation stories, a
divine being creates the world and all of the beings that inhabit it. Some differences
are that in the Christian faith, God takes an active role in up keeping and sustaining
the earth. In the Hindu

Essay about Doubting Thomas
Doubting Thomas
According to Webster, Skepticism is the philosophical doctrine that the attainment of
absolute knowledge is impossible. It comes from the Greek word skeptesthai
meaning to examine, and the practice was brought about during the elementary stages
of philosophy by Pyrrho sometime between 360 270 b.c. Some other well known
skeptics are Xenophanes, Gorgias, and Sextus Empiricus. Skepticism is very common
in today s society, and is practiced in some way by all. If you are alive and
functioning on this planet, you ll find that it is difficult to avoid being skeptic in one
way or another.96 Pyrrho was an ancient Greek philosopher, who introduced pure
skepticism into Greek philosophy, founded the school known as ... Show more

Such skepticism was useful during Pyrrho s time; if nothing was provably wrong,
one could legitimately accept the customs or religion of whoever was in power.
He also believed that each theory had it s own contradictory argument, so he
suspended judgment on all events.161 The roots of skepticism are also believed to
be accredited to Xenophanes, a philosopher and poet of Asia Minor. He believed
that if truth were stated. It could not be known In his writings Xenophanes cleverly
satirized the polytheistic beliefs of earlier Greek poets and of his own
contemporaries. He ridiculed their deities as gods created in the image of the mortals
who worshiped them. In a famous passage he asserted that if oxen could paint and
sculpt, they would depict gods who resembled oxen. He felt that humans should reject
polytheistic ascribing of human motivation and characteristics to inanimate objects,
animals, and phenomena and recognize instead a single non human deity underlying
and unifying all worldly phenomena. 117 A parallel to Xenophanes philosophy is
that which was expressed by Gorgias, a famous Sophist. The Sophists consisted of
experienced debaters and speech writers who popularized the ideas of various early
philosophers; but based on their understanding of this prior philosophic thought, most
of them concluded that truth and morality were
The Epic Of Gilgamesh And Gilgamesh
In the Epic of Gilgamesh there are many notable relationships but the relationship
between Gilgamesh and Enkidu is hands down the most noteworthy. When
analyzing the relationship of Gilgamesh and Enkidu there are many factors that go
into play. It is really the sole foundation of the whole Sumerian epic and it really
changes the whole personality of Gilgamesh. In order to get a better understanding
of how the two characters complement each other we have to first break down their
individual appearances and characteristics. After that is made clear then it is more
appropriate to begin to analyze their relationship which in time turns out to be a
relationship for the ages. Gilgamesh like many other mythological heroes was
fortunate enough to be made up of two parts, part man and part god. Of all of the
men in his land he was the greatest and before he met Enkidu he used that to his
advantage in both positive and negative ways. He was the most ferocious warrior
and the most creative architect they had ever seen. Before the arrival of his better
half, Gilgamesh used to force hard labor upon his people, rape his women, and
selfishly indulge his appetite. With that being said you can pretty see with a clear
eye view that before Enkidu s arrival, Gilgamesh was not that easy to like. Enkidu on
the other hand is described as being a hairy chested and brawny man. He was made
from clay by Aruru, who is the goddess of creation. He was indeed created to take
away all of the arrogance
The Printing Press by Johannes Gutenberg
In the 1450s, a German goldsmith named Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing
press, which revolutionized the world of publishing (The Printing Press, 2005).
Since then, hundreds of word processing programs have been developed, along with
thousands of new fonts, from Times New Roman to Comic Sans. Marketing
professionals and scientists around the world have wondered what kinds of fonts
stick in a person s memory over others (Dizikes, 2013). The concepts of how memory
functions, how the brainprocesses information and how font and memory are
connected in psychology are essential to better understand this idea. The nervous

The short term memories are stored in the hippocampus, the long term are stored in
the cerebral cortex, and the flashbulb memories are stored in a special part of the
cerebral cortex called the amygdala (Young 2010; Hamzelou, 2011). Short term
memory can hold seven items of information for fifteen to twenty seconds.
Information that was received verbally and information that was received visually are
kept in different places in short term memory. To make the most of the limits of short
term memory, the brain chunks two to three facts into one unit of information. Long
term memory, however, is stored by significance and meaning rather than the
sequence in which they were received. The two kinds of long term memory are
implicit and explicit memories. Implicit memories are unconsciously remembered,
like how to open doors. Explicit memories are consciously remembered. There are
three types of explicit memory: episodic, semantic, and declarative.
Episodic memories are memories of events that took place, like a memory of
attending a party. Semantic memories are facts, figures, and general knowledge, like
the capital of France. Declarative memories are of people, places, and things, such
as names and faces (Foster, 2011; Greenberg, 1987; Fields, 2005).
Both long term and short term memories travel between neurons, as does any
memory. The structure that enables a connection between the neurons is called a
synapse. Short term memory has temporary synapse strengthening and
White Men Vs White Women Essay
Over the history of the United States, we have freed slaves, granted citizenship to
people of color, given women the right to vote, and made many other changes to
improve civil rights. Unfortunately, even today, we are belittling people of different
races or genders. We have not abolished the race and gender laws inside ourselves.
Overall, our society has made it harder for some races and genders to have better
social mobility than white men, and sometimes, they never do rise up in wealth, all
because they are a certain raceor gender. Most genders and races, because many
people think they can take advantage of other racial and gender groups than any
white men, have less respect than white men.

The Impact of Economic Meltdown on the Nigeria

ABSTRACT
This study tends to unravel the effects of economic meltdown on employee
productivity in the Nigerian banking system using the August 14, 2009 CBN
intervention into commercial banks (as a result of the meltdown originating from
unsecured credits and poor bank management in the Nigerian commercial banking
system) as a benchmark to analyze the effects. Data was collected from journals,
interviews and direct data from specific units of the bank. The appraisal of the staff of
Intercontinental Bank was used to assess performance under the first hypothesis. The
second hypothesis tends to seek the staff opinion on effects of policy changes in the
system and their performance. The study suggests that the economy ... Show more

In this research work, the impact of the economic meltdown and recent banking
reforms in Intercontinental Bank Plc has been critically analyzed and its impact on
employee performance will be identified and ways to ensuring a positive productive
effect will be discussed.
2.2 STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
There has been a number of banking reforms in Nigeria with varying attendant
effects. However, the effect of the current reform originating from the conspicuous
effect of the economic meltdown has become of great concern. While the reform of
2004 cannot be exonerated from its attendant casualties of job loss among others,
the current reforms seems to have raised some dust. Following the financial
stringencies in the economy and the role of banks in a depressed economy, the CBN
governor, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, on August 14, 2009 relieved some banks
CEOs of their duties for wrong exercise of executive responsibility.
As the unexpected turn in financial market prevails, forecasting economic changes
is growing more difficult, employees which are the success tools of any
organization are in no small way impaired in their level of productivity. For most
bank employees in Nigeria today, the economic crisis has led to a wave of financial
anxiety. Most bankers start to ask themselves questions like, What if I lose my job,
will I be able to cater for my family and other needs?
The economic meltdown has put to threat job security and an enhanced sustainable

convey respect for the individual and make them feel like their problem is
important and a priority. Especially when helping someone in a panic state, using
repetitive persistence has been very beneficial. In that, I will repeat as many times

Human Genome Project Pros And Cons
Research on our genetic composition is one of the more intricate researches because
of its risk, cost and required effort. But understanding the blueprint of the human
race is equally important that is why researchers are still determined to learn more
about it. Genes are also very difficult to understand, because they are so complex and
basically define what we are. A better understanding of genes and our DNAcan lead to
revolutionary medical advancements. (Healthcare Infographics, 2014)

As researchers learn more about the functions of genes and proteins, this knowledge
will have a major impact in the fields of medicine, biotechnology, and the life
sciences. (n.d.) As a STEM student, my opinion on this matter is entirely about the
benefits and its drawbacks. I think almost all researches that has touched on genetics
pose unethical issues in them. This will be heading into questions regarding the
manipulation of the natural sequence of our DNA which, makes this a very
controversial issue. Next is protecting privacy of the individual whose genes were
collected as part of the research.
Despite these drawbacks, it has encouraged researchers to continue because of its
numerous advantages. One is creating effective drugs in the field of medicine.
Gaining an understanding about genes could lead to much more efficient drug
modification which can entirely change how it works on the individual. Another pro
is the advancement in discoveries. The more of the genome that is known, the more
particular medical conditions can be attributed to certain genes. By understanding the
underlying genes involved in the process, it is possible that more medical discoveries
can be made regarding the origin, evolution, and potential cure for these

The City Of Phoenix
Phoenix, is Arizona s capital and largest city in the United States, is also one of the
largest city in the United states. Phoenix is registered as a city in February 25,
1881, when the Phoenix in the Navajo language called Hoozdo, meaning the hot
land; in the Western Apache language called Fiinigis. Phoenix is located on both
sides of the dry salt river. Phoenix in 2015, about 1563025 people in the official
census in 2000 as the nation s sixth largest city, but the population statistics in 2005

Also, phoenix have many industries, the industries will release many toxic gases to
hurt human s body and let the climate change.
When Phoenix continues business as usual it is bound to suffer some impacts in
future. One effect is that there will be the destruction of the ozone layer exposing
the citizens to the dangerous rays of the sun. This would later turn to causing the
destruction of crops grown after being exposed too much heat. This is what is
commonly known as global warming caused by the emission of gas by the
industries. This large population if it will not control the transportation sector then
the gas emitted by the vehicles will increase leading to acidic rain which is not
favorable for growing crops. If the city does not come up with proper drainage
system, then this means that waste will be lying everywhere, and this will cause a
climatic change. Failure to change business as usual in the city can lead to extreme
weather as well as climate change.
The city however can be built to increase resiliency. One strategy is by building
awareness. Holding a civic education would be one effective way to increasing
resiliency. Tell the citizen they should less drive the vehicles to the place what they

increase resiliency. Also, they can use bike or skateboard to go to the school or the
work place. Also, they government should set the law to make the industries release

Comparing Imagery in Frost s Acquainted with the Night...
Imagery in Frost s Acquainted with the Night and Sexton s Her Kind
In order to maximize meaning and overall total effect of a piece of work, writers use
various literary devices. These techniques enhance the author s work and add a
dimension that results in higher reader satisfaction. Throughout the poems I have
read this quarter thus far, I have discovered the use of imagery as a prominent source
of literary embellishment. In particular the image of night is used in poems
Acquainted with the Night, written by Robert Frost, and Her Kind, written by Anne
Sexton, to portray a dark and lonely tone. All through both poems there is a dark
feeling due to word selection and associations to evil ... Show more content on

In the poem Her Kind, by Anne Sexton, the same feeling of loneliness is achieved
through association with the night. The image of night has the same quality of
being rejected by society, and outcast because of the disconnection with people.
Night is seen by the world as a time to sleep and be within ones own thoughts and
dreams. For the speaker to be up and about signifies that she is alone while the
world sleeps. Therefore she must be lonely. Using night as the setting but not
totally describing every little detail, creates a sense of unknown. The witch in this
case is spooky and misunderstood and is unable to participate in daily activities so
she must take shelter of the night in order to do her evil business. Night allows the
concept of a witch to take its full affect. Witches are almost always associated with
the night. Especially when it is a wicked witch. Witches are ugly so they must travel
at night
Jeffrey Dahmer s Nine Circles
The first circle of The nine circles of Rapist is Ravage. The people who inhabit this
circle, people like Bill Cosby, will be stuck in a tiny room for all eternity while
feeling the same emotions their victims felt all at once. These people will never
have a break at happiness or freedom, living in a constant state of whatever despair
or sadness they brought upon others. The character Humbert from Lolita would fit
this circle perfectly because they too have caused the feelings of uncertain safety for
their victims. The Second Circle which is called Chalet, include people like Robert
Hansen. He was guilty of raping more than 30 women, hunting them like animals. The
group of sinners who inhabit this circle will go through what their victims... Show

Paul Bernardo and his wife Karla Homolka are doomed in the worst circle one could
be placed in. Their acts were inexcusable and thought out. They did everything one
could possibly think of when checking a list off of inhumane actions. They are, as
well as the rest of the sinners who inhabit circle nine, will face a frightening
punishment. That being their own family members surrounding, trapping and
torturing the sinners endlessly. All while being guarded by the mythological creature
Laestrygonians who will attack any sinner that dares to fight back. John Lotter and
Tom Nissen from boys dont cry would inhabit this circle. They had raped and killed
someone they knew and had a relationship with, a friendship. That was not enough to
prevent them from taking this said friends life with no hesitation. They fit the

  • 2. What Does Lucifer Symbolize In Dante s Inferno The smell was horrid as Dante and Virgil reached the bottom of Lucifer s divine paradise. The warm colors of yellow, orange, and red draped the visiting souls in a blanket. As if not warm enough, the majestic flames and river of fires made sure all guests were especially hot, but this heat escaped Dante and Virgilas they descended into Circle 9 the icy residence of Satan. This Circle was exceedingly cold, as an icy lake filled the geography of each of the 9th Circles 4 rounds. Contrary to popular belief, Hellis not all flames as a typical reader would assume. Dante s Inferno informs the audience that Hell reserves an icy habitat to the world s most odious offenders aside from it s fiery doom. The Foulest of all beings, (Dante 49) Lucifer, is described as a massive beast with 3 faces, 6 eyes, and bat like wings that the fallen angel uses to punish his prisoners. Dante uses this description of Satan to emphasize the brutal, violent, and excruciating pain the punished will endure, and to stress the evil that is Lucifer. He also does this to perfect his contrapasso.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With his three mouths, Satan chews on sinners Brutus, Judas Iscariot, and Cassius for all eternity while bloody tears fall from Lucifer s 6 eyes. The Almighty Lucifer also has two mighty wings (Dante 47) that depict wings of a bat. With this, Satan forever traps himself in his icy Hell by constantly flapping his wings as an attempt of escape. Lucy is trapped because half of his body is stuck in the icy while the other is exposed to the freezing

  • 4. The Role Of The Mausoleum In Islamic Art Name Professor Course Date What is the role of the Mausoleum in Islamic art? Islamic art is any artwork that embraces Islamic theme, mostly created and produced in areas where Islam is the most dominant religion. However, unlike Christian, Buddhist, and Jewish art that is made purely for religious purposes, Islamic art serves both for religious and decorative purposes. Then, because of its intricate designs, the art is known all over the world for its beauty and detail. For instance, the Taj Mahal is one of the most famous products of Islamic Art. It was created as a royal mausoleum and is located in Agra, India (Wolper 920). Thus, the present paper argues that, apart from serving religious purposes, the mausoleum Islamic art was also used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To give an example, Emperor Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal, which is the most famous Islamic mausoleum for funeral purposes, as a tribute to his wife, Mumtaz Mahal, who had passed on after delivering the couple s last child (Kumar 5). Mahal was buried in the tomb and later on, when the Emperor died; he was buried in the same place alongside his wife. Therefore, in Islamic art, one of the most important purposes of the mausoleum was for the preservation of bodies of important people based on the belief of life after death. The belief was that the bodies of the dead would wait for judgment at the mausoleum where they were buried after their souls had been extracted by the angel of death. Moreover, another mausoleum that was constructed for entombment purposes is the Al Askari Mosque that was constructed in Samarra area of Iraq for the burial of the leader Sardab of Caliph al Mahdi who lived between r. 775 785 (Nielsen 52). The mausoleum resembles a mosque and was built with a golden dome to show its importance as one of the most significant Islamic shrines. In Egypt, the mausoleums were referred to as mashhads and they were devoted to the burial of religious
  • 5. Importance Of Observation On Church Service Intro In this paper I have invited my wife s Abuela to our church one Sunday morning and I will be observing and asking her questions after the service. My observation will include my thoughts of what she thinks and I will ask questions about what her thoughts are of the service and other topics we have had in our religious class. Background A short background of Abuela is that she is from Puerto Rico, 87 years old, speaks mostly Spanish, no husband and she loves her great grandkids a lot. I think it s a grandmother thing to just hand money out and give whatever to the kids because the kids love it when she comes. Last year we attended St. Patrick Catholic church here in San Antonio and when Abuela came this summer, this past weekend I figured that I would have something to do my paper on. We have attended her Catholic church before and although she likes it dearly, it is not for my family so we asked if she would attend our church. Observation While in Church Service. Throughout the church service I would glance over just to get an indication as to what Abuela s thought were, was she engaged or not into the service message. When we first walled up to our church which is of Christian religion / belief. Abuela mentioned that there wasn t a Holy water area prior to entering but she went through the motions as if there was. I realized something throughout the service, that Abuela speaks mostly Spanish and the service was in English so I knew that we had

Hofstede, Kolb and Rath s Critiques Critique Three critiques will be explored in this section of the paper including; Hofstede s critique on the basis of cultural consideration Kolb s critique on the basis of dynamic group effectiveness Rath s critique on the basis of situational differences Hofstede s critique is based on that the world is too diverse for followership theories to be applicable in different circumstances (Hofstede, 2001). Theories limited to their origin cultures are not effective, especially when it s dealing with universally occurring issues, such as followership. In order for a theory to be effective, it must address various issues, including the society s gender, virtue, identity, truth, and hierarchy (Hofstede Hofstede, 2005). Kelley addresses four of these areas, leaving out gender, which is a critical part of societal relations and ultimately, the nature of followership. There are cultures within which women will behave like passive followers regardless of the situation for fear of repercussions. In societies that have experienced prolonged periods of war in recent decades, the females may exhibit the traits of alienated followers owing to their experiences. Hofstede (2001) expresses that this type of exclusion leaves no room for culture and no sense of dimensionality. The critique gives a credible argument, since cultural differences are increasingly becoming an issue owing to different cultures coming into contact all over the world. While this happens, there are no
  • 8. Banquet Scene In Macbeth It was also a very risky but appropriate play to show Taiwan audiences at the time as it made political comments on Taiwan s recent history as a political leader called Chiang Kai shek s tried to take over Taiwan, the parallels are quite evident. Chiang Kai shek was a military and political leader who joined the Chinese Nationalists Party in 1918, known as KMT. The people of Taiwan were under control of the KMT military forces and Chiang was the cause of hundreds of bloody and violent deaths. In order for Chiang, not unlike Macbeth, he wanted to keep control of his totalitarian regime so there was a massacre, riots and a famine, they ruled for over 40 years. The scene was set with fog with blue and purple tones with her weary high pitched voice coming from the unknown at first, ultimately holds our attention in suspense. It was visually haunting as she looked like a corpse in rags. Another thing I noticed in the banquet scene a female performer comes in to entertain Macbeth and does a dance with a mask. Throughout the dance she is holding two other masks and alternately covers her face with them as she swirls, bends and crosses the stage. The masks change with such fluidity you would hardly notice, even the type of masks and the character they express; happy, fearful and angry. For me she was almost telling Macbeths prophecy. All of the elements of this production made it a continuous seamless, ever growing, rhythmic sweep , especially the final scene when Au Shu is up on his perch telling his soldiers they cannot lose as the prophet told him so, unless the forest moves. It was then that his own soldiers fire arrows at him creating a slow death with Au Shu doing a back flip from a raised level to stage level in full view. It was incredible and symbolized his fall from grace. His own soldiers took Macbeths head and brought it to the rebel army to save themselves as they could see Macbeth had gone mad. It was certainly a tragedy, from start to finish the psychological and emotional values were apparent. Even though the play was in Taiwanese and the subtitles were simple English the two different styles blended together so nicely that the relationship, goals, the guilt and fear then the demise of the Macbeths was created with such an

Zhe Wang NUID 001714496 ENTR 1201 Final Paper Preface After this semester s study of entrepreneurship, I have grasped some basic knowledge of different types of startups, different contexts, and different roles. Also, I really want to do my own startup in order to put the knowledge I learned into practice, and get some practical experience of starting and operating a business. Thus, I write this paper to analyze which type of startup, context, and role is more suitable to my business. Types I want to do a business of financial consultation service for microВІ and micro businessemen. MicroВІ is a kind of business that was created by people who are self employed. MicroВІ usually is not creative, in which means I just have to follow some traditional business mode, that is not risky and low cost, of the field I want to do. What I need to do is to find a good place where customers have a big enough demand of my product or service and ensure my business is competitive enough in that area. Besides, the most common way for MicroВІ to advertise their business is to use the word of mouth and some inexpensive flyers or advertisements in newspaper etc.. However, I do not think my financial service business fits into MicroВІ, since my rough plan is to start my financial service around 10 Speare Place, and there are 14,196 finance companies in this area, which is not a big number compared to other fields, such as real estate and technical service. In addition, individual proprietorships

Ever since the collapse of the Gran Colombia in 1830, Venezuela has been ruled by military leaders until mid 20th century (CIA). Since the mid 1950s, a wave of democratically elected regimes took over in which Venezuela flourished and became one of the few leading economic powers in the Latin American region (CIA). With large oil revenues funding the government, the country s political and economic institutions became effective, and what was once a military oppressed environment was now a thriving and liberalized economy. Hybrid regimes rule in two ways: they mechanize their way to power through democratic elections but perform autocratic and dictatorial practices through political and economic institutions (Javier). In this hybrid government, the opposition has been allowed to take part in elections, but the problem is that there is no separation of powers within the system of checks and balances. The opposition parties have rarely been able to make successful negotiations. POLITICS UNDER CHAVISMO The president s transformation has often been called Chavismo in which his regime has undermined the separation of power by remodeling institutions, expropriations of properties and businesses, and extensive social programs aiming to alleviate social ills (Javier). THE DOMESTIC AND INTERNATIONAL POLITICAL ECONOMY Experts seem to see that Chavez modified the economy into an Import Substitution Industrialization (ISI) style economy (Javier). The main objective of an ISI style economy is to increase the local production of goods and services. In order to do this, Chavez implement several protectionist policies to limit foreign competition and help current and infant industries thrive. As with other countries attempts,

My main focus question is did the Trojan war really begin over the love of a women. The Trojan War is known as a significant event in Greek mythology. According to Homer the Trojan War was a battle at Troybetween Paris of Troy and the Spartans because Paris stole Helen from her husband Menelaus who was the king Sparta. The battle raged on for 10 years until finally the Spartans were victorious due to the Trojan horse battle strategy causing the fall of Troy. Evidence of this battle comes throughout Homers works of Greek literature lliad and odyssey . But were Homers stories the actual reason of one of history s most talked about wars? Was his story s a recount of a different battle? Was a woman really the reason to start a war over? Did Troy actually exist? • 12. The Life Of Margaret Sanger And Planned Motherhood Imagine finding yourself pregnant at the age of 30 with your ninth child. You live in a small apartment and you are unable to feed all of the members of your large family, also clueless as to how to prevent future pregnancies. This story would not be too far from reality for many women over a hundred years ago. It is also similar in ways to the life of Margaret Sanger, a women s rights activist who is responsible for the family planning movement that started birth control. Margaret Sanger s mother had 11 children and 18 pregnancies, that definitely took a destructive toll on her body, and she died at only 46 years old (Yasunari 2000). Margaret took notice of what happened to her mother and many other women, inspiring her to make it her life s work to help women have more control over their bodies and families. Margaret s work grew famous for the beginning of a birth control movement and the later creation of Planned Parenthood, but it also has a sometimes dark side of eugenics. She went to college to be a nurse and treated many women who continued to have children, even though they were wishing to prevent pregnancies. Margaret saw a correlation between impoverished struggling families and having a large number of children. Margaret referred to women being slaves to their bodies and involuntary motherhood, and also that by age 35, motherhood often exhausted women s bodies (Katzive 2015). She also probably noticed how desperate some women were to prevent pregnancies.

  • 15. Differences Of Kantianism And Utilitarianism In this paper, I will discuss how Kantianism and Utilitarianism would have oppositional views on the decision to break protocol in order to save a child life. Ethical Dilemma: A child is brought into the emergency department by his mother. The mother is yelling that her child is not breathing. The nurse runs over and takes the child, runs inside the emergency room and yells for a doctor. No doctor has arrived, but another nurse comes into the room and both nurses begin CPR on the child. The nurses talk to one another and agree that the child needed to be intubated immediately in order to survive. However, the doctors were unavailable. The first nurse to respond to the mother decides to intubate the child even though intubation is outside of her scope of practice and she could be fired for performing the intubation. The nurse intubated the child successfully and the child is in a stable condition after the intubation. Utilitarianism: Utilitarianism is a consequentialist philosophy: the righteousness and wrongness of actions dependon the result of the actions, not the intent of the actions. Actions are right if they maximize happiness and decrease pain. It is important to maximize happiness as a collective, not just maximize happiness the pleasure individually. For example, there are opportunities in which sacrificing one s own happiness is acceptable if it results in a greater value of happiness in a community. A Utilitarian can calculate the net worth of actions by calculating the pain and pleasure it each will create. However, during events where there is not enough time for calculation, we can just rely on the rule of thumb, which are basic (common sense) rules, such as not murdering, lying, or cheating. Response to action: An Act Utilitarian would argue that saving the child life was the correct action because the life of a child outweighs the pain that could result if the nurse lost her license. There would be a greater amount of pain if the nurse did not intubate the patient. A child would have died, the mother would have to grieve losing her child, and the healthcare workers would be distraught because they were unable to save the child, even though they had the resources and knowledge to do so.

This becomes a sticking point when two men meet in either a psychiatrist s office or in the depth of space in the short story The Yellow Pill. Since both men cannot be in reality, the story takes place in a comfortable office based on evidence from the story. Throughout the story, Mr. Elton talks with Gerald Bocek in his office about the details of Jerry s crime. It is at the end of each conversation they have in the office that proves them to be on Earth. Mr. Elton tells the police officers to take Gerald out of his office and back to the mental ward. For example, after their first conversation Mr. Elton says, All right, take him away. Bring him back the same time tomorrow. The two officers pushed him firmly toward the door. The officers taking Gerald out of his office every time they talk shows that they are on Earth and not in space. Gerald would die immediately if he was taken outside of a spaceship, because of the lack of atmospheric pressure and oxygen. Gerald also comes back into Mr. Elton s office each day which means he couldn t have died in space, which would be caused from leaving a spaceship every time Mr. Elton and him talk. In the story Mr. Elton is discussing the problems about Gerald Bocek with Helena, but before they had started talking Gerald had told Mr. Elton to take a pill and that nothing bad would happen. During Mr. Elton s conversation with Helena he says, I took one three years ago when they first became available. You d be surprised how little you actually see of what you look at, especially of people. You look at symbols instead. I had to cancel my appointments for a week. Mr. Elton is proving that the pills blurred his sense of reality. This shows that the pills cause hallucination and the reality Gerald is living in is a messed up reality, furthering the argument for why they are on Earth. Towards the end of the story after Mr. Elton has taken the yellow pill and Gerald ejected himself from what they considered the airlock. When Gerald had ejected himself it is described as, Jerry s chest quickly expanded, then collapsed as a mixture of phlegm and blood dribbled from his

Brahma was so horrified with his actions that all the hairs on his head fell out, and he mistakenly created ghouls as well. Upon moving on from the dark thoughts, Brahma was able to create all of the other living things we know today. In Thoughts of Brahma, the central theme of the story is creation. Whether the creating is good or evil, this myth focuses on explaining the process on how the world became what it is today, and how its inhabitants were formed. The Thoughts of Brahma and the Christian creation stories in the book of Genesis have similarities and differences (Genesis Chapter 1). In both creation stories, a divine being creates the world and all of the beings that inhabit it. Some differences are that in the Christian faith, God takes an active role in up keeping and sustaining the earth. In the Hindu

  • 26. Essay about Doubting Thomas Doubting Thomas According to Webster, Skepticism is the philosophical doctrine that the attainment of absolute knowledge is impossible. It comes from the Greek word skeptesthai meaning to examine, and the practice was brought about during the elementary stages of philosophy by Pyrrho sometime between 360 270 b.c. Some other well known skeptics are Xenophanes, Gorgias, and Sextus Empiricus. Skepticism is very common in today s society, and is practiced in some way by all. If you are alive and functioning on this planet, you ll find that it is difficult to avoid being skeptic in one way or another.96 Pyrrho was an ancient Greek philosopher, who introduced pure skepticism into Greek philosophy, founded the school known as ... He also believed that each theory had it s own contradictory argument, so he suspended judgment on all events.161 The roots of skepticism are also believed to be accredited to Xenophanes, a philosopher and poet of Asia Minor. He believed that if truth were stated. It could not be known In his writings Xenophanes cleverly satirized the polytheistic beliefs of earlier Greek poets and of his own contemporaries. He ridiculed their deities as gods created in the image of the mortals who worshiped them. In a famous passage he asserted that if oxen could paint and sculpt, they would depict gods who resembled oxen. He felt that humans should reject polytheistic ascribing of human motivation and characteristics to inanimate objects, animals, and phenomena and recognize instead a single non human deity underlying and unifying all worldly phenomena. 117 A parallel to Xenophanes philosophy is that which was expressed by Gorgias, a famous Sophist. The Sophists consisted of experienced debaters and speech writers who popularized the ideas of various early philosophers; but based on their understanding of this prior philosophic thought, most of them concluded that truth and morality were
  • 27. The Epic Of Gilgamesh And Gilgamesh In the Epic of Gilgamesh there are many notable relationships but the relationship between Gilgamesh and Enkidu is hands down the most noteworthy. When analyzing the relationship of Gilgamesh and Enkidu there are many factors that go into play. It is really the sole foundation of the whole Sumerian epic and it really changes the whole personality of Gilgamesh. In order to get a better understanding of how the two characters complement each other we have to first break down their individual appearances and characteristics. After that is made clear then it is more appropriate to begin to analyze their relationship which in time turns out to be a relationship for the ages. Gilgamesh like many other mythological heroes was fortunate enough to be made up of two parts, part man and part god. Of all of the men in his land he was the greatest and before he met Enkidu he used that to his advantage in both positive and negative ways. He was the most ferocious warrior and the most creative architect they had ever seen. Before the arrival of his better half, Gilgamesh used to force hard labor upon his people, rape his women, and selfishly indulge his appetite. With that being said you can pretty see with a clear eye view that before Enkidu s arrival, Gilgamesh was not that easy to like. Enkidu on the other hand is described as being a hairy chested and brawny man. He was made from clay by Aruru, who is the goddess of creation. He was indeed created to take away all of the arrogance

The Printing Press by Johannes Gutenberg In the 1450s, a German goldsmith named Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing press, which revolutionized the world of publishing (The Printing Press, 2005). Since then, hundreds of word processing programs have been developed, along with thousands of new fonts, from Times New Roman to Comic Sans. Marketing professionals and scientists around the world have wondered what kinds of fonts stick in a person s memory over others (Dizikes, 2013). The concepts of how memory functions, how the brainprocesses information and how font and memory are connected in psychology are essential to better understand this idea. The short term memories are stored in the hippocampus, the long term are stored in the cerebral cortex, and the flashbulb memories are stored in a special part of the cerebral cortex called the amygdala (Young 2010; Hamzelou, 2011). Short term memory can hold seven items of information for fifteen to twenty seconds. Information that was received verbally and information that was received visually are kept in different places in short term memory. To make the most of the limits of short term memory, the brain chunks two to three facts into one unit of information. Long term memory, however, is stored by significance and meaning rather than the sequence in which they were received. The two kinds of long term memory are implicit and explicit memories. Implicit memories are unconsciously remembered, like how to open doors. Explicit memories are consciously remembered. There are three types of explicit memory: episodic, semantic, and declarative. Episodic memories are memories of events that took place, like a memory of attending a party. Semantic memories are facts, figures, and general knowledge, like the capital of France. Declarative memories are of people, places, and things, such as names and faces (Foster, 2011; Greenberg, 1987; Fields, 2005). Both long term and short term memories travel between neurons, as does any memory. The structure that enables a connection between the neurons is called a synapse. Short term memory has temporary synapse strengthening and

White Men Vs White Women Essay Over the history of the United States, we have freed slaves, granted citizenship to people of color, given women the right to vote, and made many other changes to improve civil rights. Unfortunately, even today, we are belittling people of different races or genders. We have not abolished the race and gender laws inside ourselves. Overall, our society has made it harder for some races and genders to have better social mobility than white men, and sometimes, they never do rise up in wealth, all because they are a certain raceor gender. Most genders and races, because many people think they can take advantage of other racial and gender groups than any white men, have less respect than white men. However, the effect of the current reform originating from the conspicuous effect of the economic meltdown has become of great concern. While the reform of 2004 cannot be exonerated from its attendant casualties of job loss among others, the current reforms seems to have raised some dust. Following the financial stringencies in the economy and the role of banks in a depressed economy, the CBN governor, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, on August 14, 2009 relieved some banks CEOs of their duties for wrong exercise of executive responsibility.
