Low-speed Circulating Wind Tunnels Essay
Introduction When a viscous fluid flows along a fixed impermeable wall, or past the rigid
surface of an immersed body, an essential condition is that a velocity at any point on the wall or
other fixed surface is zero. To the extent to which the condition modifies the general character of
the flow is dependent on the viscosity of the fluid. If a body has a streamlined shape and the
fluid flowing over the body has a small viscosity that is not negligible, the modifying effect
appears to be confined to the narrowest regions adjacent to the solid surfaces; these are called
boundary layers. Within these layers, there is a rapid change in velocity which gives rise to a large
velocity gradient normal to the boundary which produces a shear stress... Show more content on

In the medium air speed wind tunnels where wind speed ranges from 1.5 40m/s, several types of
wind tunnels can be applied. At first, an open suction type wind tunnel can have a large test
section with high contraction ratio [3]. This type of wind tunnel has a large inlet area to take
motionless air to the test section. Air filters can be installed before the inlet to prevent any dust
from entering the test section and disturbing the air flow [3]. It also provides a pressure drop to
generate uniform flow at the inlet. A honeycomb shaped panel and several sheets of screens are
installed in the settling chamber of the wind tunnel. The contraction section makes the air flow
more uniform and stable. A diffuser is placed downstream of the test section to prevent an
adverse pressure gradient. This is done by increasing the cross sectional area along the main flow
direction [3]. When the open suction type wind tunnel is used for calibration purposes, air in front
of the inlet section should be as dormant as possible [3].A baffle or a restraint can be installed at
the inlet section to prevent any flow disturbances at the inlet of the wind tunnel [3]. However, if
there are any fluctuations in the air at the inlet, a closed type wind tunnel can prevent this. In a
closed type wind tunnel, air is

What Does Vasudeva Teach Siddhartha
It s the Final Countdown
Thesis: Vasudeva, Young Siddartha, and Govinda all help Siddartha achieve enlightenment because
they taught him the Four Noble Truths.
Vasudeva, the Ferryman, taught Siddartha about the Fourth Noble Truth, the eightfold path.
Though Vasudeva does not directly teach each individual aspect of the eightfold path, it can be
argued that since the eightfold path is visualized as a wheel Vasudeva teachings are all connected
to each aspect. An important characteristic of Vasudeva is that he is a listener, he rarely talks. His
listening skills show Siddartha Right Speech because it is about speaking when needed and paying
attention to the other person. From Vasudeva, Siddharthalearned to listen to the voices of the river.
Usually he would hear many voices from the river, but with the help of Vasudeva he learns that All
of it together was the flow of events, was the music of life. And when Siddhartha was listening
attentively to this river, this song of a thousand voices, when he neither listened to the suffering nor

A Visit From The Goonsquad
In recent years, Pulitzer Prize winning fiction novels clearly differ in theme and style. The 2011
winner, Jennifer Egan s A Visit from the Goonsquad, is a multi faceted, complex narrative focused
on the music industry. In 2013, Adam Johnson s The Orphan Master s Son, a historical fiction
novel on North Korea, took the prize. Though these novels take place in different countries and
deal with diverging topics, they do have one thing in common: in each of these Pulitzer Prize
winning novels, secondary female characters become deified, allowing the reader to attach the
sensation of hope onto them. This occurs in Egan s novel, as Lulu comes to represent the promise of
a new generation. The same phenomenon occurs with Sun Moon in The Orphan... Show more

Dolly describes her daughter as the rod around which the wires were wrapped, regal, and flushed,
smelling of perfume or freshly baked brownies. (190) Lulu is associated with diction that holds
positive connotations. She holds subtle wisdom for her young age, and all encompassing
femininity. Lulu is the antithesis to other characters in the novel whom we see grow up. Of course,
other children are characterized throughout Sasha s kids, Lou s children, Bennie and his high
school clan but Lulu is the only character we see transition into an adult, without losing her youth.
Even Kitty, a symbol of youth and sensuality, is presented in a vulnerable light as having spidery
lines and being ragged (193). It seems as if this continuous mention of youth is central to Lulu s
deification. As an adult, Lulu s deification is intensified. When Alex meets her, he remarks, The
slanted winter sun ignited Lulu s hair, making a nimbus around her face (341). Here, Alex notices
a white cloud forming around Lulu s face, an image reminiscent of a Saint s aureole depicted in
religious iconography. Not only does Lulu become other worldly in her physical attributes, but in
her actions. During the final chapter of the novel, Alex and Bennie attempt to force Scotty to play
music. They are physical unable to contain him. However,

My Mother As A Hero
Sitting on my mother s lap has always been the safest place for me. Although she beholds a
lovely image, I imagine her as a fearless warrior ready and armed to attack anyone who dared to
touch her child. I admired my mother s strength as I watched her work for tireless hours, but,
furthermore, I admired her willingness to sacrifice resting time in order to be with my siblings and
me. Although my motherdid not have a warrior s armor consisting of a sword and shield, listening
to her stories about Mexico, her love for my father, and their struggle in America, she became that
fearless fighter who protected me and guided me through hardships.
Unlike my mother, I was not fearless. I could not watch horror movies because I would not sleep
for weeks. I could not stand in a pitch black room because I would search frantically for a ray of
light. Many times I would awake terror stricken and call out for my mother, yet due to her night
shifts she would not answer. I would spend entire nights looking at the ceiling, hoping for the
sun to rise, and for my mother to show. These immense fears, which plagued my childhood, have
been the ones to teach me that great courage is needed in life. I would force myself to be brave or
to at least act brave. Not having my mother come to me every time I called for her, made me realize
that I cannot depend on anybody to get me through obstacles, especially, if that obstacle is my own
fear.
Going through life I stuck to acting brave.

Henry VIII Essay
The major endeavours of Henry VIII during his reign over England from 1509 to 1547 included
the Field of the Cloth of Gold and the Reformation of the English Church. The sole reason for
these actions is said to be love and seems to be related to the King s obsession for a male heir but
other factors were involved. Paramount among these is the influence of his family in the earlier
years of his life. Other reasons such as general insecurities and competitiveness with other royal
houses are also possible motives. To say that the major endeavours of Henry VIII during his reign
were motivated by his obsession with a male heir is not completely accurate as other, more viable,
explanations are available.
The influence of Henry VIII s family ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Henry s grandmother, Margaret Beaufort, like her son, had an extreme impact on the young
Henry VIII. She was an influential force at court and dominated her grandchildren s lives in
discipline, religion and education as Wilson investigates in Reformer and Tyrant . There was
little love for Henry in his earlier years as he had not been the heir until his brother died and so
in this way his love for women and sport, which would be reflected in his latter years, grew.
Henry VIII s Family was critical in the descisions made towardsthe major endeavours of his reign
although they had been dead for years.
Henry VIII s love of Anne Boleyn was supposedly the catalyst to the reformation of the English
church. Henry VIII had not loved Anne but seems to have been merely infatuated with her as in
1528 when Anne was overcome with the sweating sickness Henry fled terrified of dying without
an heir. The fact that Anne was beheaded for adultery (which constituted treason) three years after
her initial coronation on 31st May 1533 was also proof that love had not caused this major
endeavour of Henry s time. Henry was obsessed with an heir after his first wife, Catherine of Aragon
, could not produce a male but only several miscarriages, three infants who were either still born
or died immediately after birth, two infants who had died within a few weeks of birth and one girl

Nebulas Research Papers
Have you ever looked up at the sky on a clear night and wondered, what else is out there? . What
could possibly lie beyond the beautiful blanket of stars that we see with our naked eye? Nebulas
are one of many galactic phenomena that lie beyond the Kuiper belt. Mysterious and fascinatingly
beautiful sights to behold, they have more of a purpose than just painting the galaxybackdrop with
color. I m not a diehard fan of astronomy and to be perfectly honest I find it difficult to follow
most of the information I have learned. However, when I came across pictures and information on
nebulas I was instantly fascinated. From how and why they re formed, to what they do for the
galaxy, I m excited to take you on an intellectual journey though nebulas.
At first glance, one might think that nebulas are made of light and that they have no ... Show more

This however, is far from the truth. Previously it was believed that the dark areas in the sky were
just blank spaces between the stars, however it is now known that these blank spaces aren t so
blank after all (Koupelis p.367). Astronomers have discovered that they are in fact large clouds of
dust, or interstellar dust to be precise, that instead block out the light from the stars behind it
(Koupelis p.367). The term nebula has its origin in the adjective nebulous, which means lacking
definite form or limits (Koupelis p.370). Much like the clouds that we see here on Earth, nebulas
also come in all shapes and sizes. Per scientists, nebulas are defined as being an interstellar cloud
of dust, hydrogen, helium, and other ionized gases (Wikipedia). These large areas of dust and other
particles thrive in an area known as the interstellar medium and are formed when the interstellar
medium goes through a gravitational collapse (Universe). It s during this

Essay On Athletic Director Duties
When comparing the list of athletic duties across the four schools, we found more similarities
than differences. In our group we have two public schools which consist of Scoggins Middle
School in McKinney, TX with 1,100 students and 7 sports teams, and Lakin High School in Lakin,
Kansas with 400 students and 15 sports teams. We also have two private schools; Loyola Academy
located in Wilmette, IL has 2,000 students with 24 sports teams, and Cary Academy (Middle and
High School) located in Cary, NC has 800 students and 49 sports teams.
A key similarity between the four schools is scheduling. One of the main athletic director duties is
the scheduling of both home and away games, scheduling referees, and scheduling transportation
for away games. This important duty for any athletic director can take up a large part of their time
depending on how many teams they have per season.
Another area where we saw similarities is in staff management. In our four schools, it is the role of
the athletic director to hire the coaching staff, provide the necessary training, provide feedback and
guidance, and to help mediate conflicts with parents and student athletes. The ... Show more content

One of the differences we observed was in budget management. Although every school s athletic
director is responsible for creating and managing a budget; where they get the funds to run the
program differs. Fundraising in the private schools does not always fall on the athletic director. For
instance, in one of the private schools listed, the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is responsible
for raising money to help fund the athletic program. In this case, the athletic director does not need
to allocate any funds for fundraising events or marketing. In the public schools, athletic directors
are responsible for raising money through fundraising events, booster clubs, and parent fees to help
pay for equipment, facilities, coaches,

Science Should Progress Through Falsification And...
Popper believes science should progress through falsification and demarcation as a way to
distinguish real scientific theories from pseudoscience. (A. Popper) Falsification is how a
scientist should look at a problem they are attempting to solve instead of using existing theories
and treating them as scientific laws you should instead try and prove existing theories wrong
using emperical evidence to solve the questions being asked. (A. Popper) believes Science keeps
moving forward and the only way to progress is to prove existing theories wrong, replacing them
with new theories. In contrast verification of theories (attempting to prove a theory right) holds
little water with Popper this is because proving a theory right has already been done. All a
researcher must do to prove a theory right is duplicate a previous study or experiment and this
according to (A. Popper) is not science and is not the advancement of scientific knowledge.
Furthermore (A. Popper 4.0 The growth of Human Knowledge) Popper believes science is
falsifiable and that their are no true facts. The scientific methoduses a deductive process. However
this deductice process does not compare the hypothesis and conclusions with the actual theory. All
observations and conclusions are theory based. Discussed previously theories according to Popper
should be scrutinized using falsification.
Popper has a four step procedure for his view of the deductive process. (A. Popper 4.0 The growth

Keyence Vhx-5000 Week 3 Problem Analysis Paper
The digital microscope Keyence VHX 5000 is a method, which is easy to handle and supports
research with high resolution images and the calculation of 3D surface models. Several
functions make it easy and quick to work with: The 3D function also allows clear 2D images of
a rough surface, because all levels are focused automatically and a sharp image of all levels will
be created. This function makes it easy to analyse deep cuts, which can be only partially focused
in light microscopy or electron microscopy. To calculate a 3D surface model the lower and upper
border of the depth of interest has to be determined, by focusing on these levels. Between these
borders a level difference of five microns were chosen. In other words, after every scan the lens

To avoid steps between the different levels, the edges will be rounded. Therefore a minimal
resolution of five microns is valid for the cut mark measurements, although the software allows
measurements till to decimals because of its logarithm to calculate the surface. In this dissertation,
all measurements are fully specified. However, a less accuracy of values less than five microns
must not be forgotten. Higher resolutions till one micrometre are also possible, but the number of
scanned levels is restricted. Therefore it is possible to analyse fine cut marks in a higher
resolution, but in this case, cuts were up to 1 mm deep and a smaller resolution is sufficient. Using
this resolution, the ends of cuts, which are very flat, were excluded because their size is
approximately under 15 microns and therefore inaccuracies in measurement increase, which might
influence the

The Impact Of Japonisme On European Art
A few centuries ago Western world could only perceive Japanese culture through the stories of
travellers, merchants and writers. However, as the transport and communication technologies
advanced, Japanese culture outspread giving the start to Japonisme (French term). It appeared at the
end of XIX century when isolation ended and japanese art arrived to the West. Japonisme had a huge

Political Ideology In Pakistan Research Paper
Ideology
Ideology is a comprehensive set of normative beliefs, conscious and unconscious ideas, that an
individual, group or society has. In social studies, a political ideology is a certain ethical set of
ideals, principles, doctrine or symbols of a social movement, or a large group that explains how a
society should work .1 Political ideologies are concerned with many different aspects of society
including the economy, education, health care, justice system and foreign policy.
There are two dimensions to political ideologies:

What Makes An Elite Athlete Become Highly Competent And...

Today, elite athletes participate in a wide variety of athletic pursuits, competing in differing events
throughout the world. What makes an elite athlete become highly competent and possess a higher
level of performance than other individuals? This is the essential question that has driven multiple

The first real evidence of genetics role upon athletic performance came with the publication of the
human genome project. Once the human genome had been completely mapped out this allowed
researchers to finally have a starting point to locate and identify individual genes that could be

Hd Tv Transition
In a world of Hulu, HD TV, and online streaming, the television industry has had no choice but to
embrace shifting consumer trends within the industry. Now that Internet streaming has allowed
consumers to watch whatever they want, whenever they want, it is becoming harder for cable
providers to keep up with consumer demand. Televisionbroadcasters must take advantage of the
bandwidth that they have available to them if they are to compete in the viewing market. With
streaming sites such as Hulu, Amazon, and Netflix gaining competitive advantage in the market,
television broadcasters can no longer sit back and continue to run as they always have. Accordingly,
these television stations have begun making much needed modifications. Since 2009, television
broadcasters have begun shutting down their analog systems and converting to strictly digital in
compliance with the Digital Television Transition and Public Safety Act. In February of 2009, the
FCC required all hybrid television producers, including companies such as Time Warner Cable and
Verizon, to shut down their analog systems and convert to digital transmissions only. Due to this
transition, the analog... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Abstract
The purpose of the essay sets out to look at the concept of nationalisation, research it and discuss
whether it is an applicable strategy to implement into South African policy. The importance of the
essay is to highlight the future economic outcomes which could incur in South Africa should it be
adopted and also look at possible alternative strategies instead of nationalisation. The issue was
addressed by making use of lecture notes, unpublished speech addressed, ... Show more content on

The ANC believed that nationalisation would be the key factor of its economic policy reform.
However after much international research, this idea was abandoned due to the overwhelming
failures of nationalisation implementations abroad. The call for nationalisation has brought upon
frantic debate since its re emergence in recent times. Many observers agree that nationalisation
appears to have few positives attached to it but many negatives to it rendering it as a potential
economic failure.
Why Is Nationalisation Needed?
South Africa is regarded to have one of the world s most unequal societies. Looking at Gini
Coefficients, The dispersion of income and wealth between the rich and the poor is one of the most
uneven in the world (Bisekker, 2010). This means that South Africa is drifting towards perfect
inequality. With job creation on a decline, unemployment steadily rising, and inequality gap
worsening, the call for nationalisation by Julius Malema (2009) is sought to allow every South
African to benefit from mines, which are owned and run by the State government. In nationalising
the mining sector in South Africa, the State government believes it would have the capabilities of
attracting labour intensive mining industrialists who will process mineral resources and diversify
the South African economy.
Advantages of Nationalisation
Currently in the post Apartheid era, South Africa hasn t achieved

Examples Of Life After Death
The Thought of life after death is comforting for some. For others, there is no life after death.
Human beings are the only animals on earth who understand they will die, and throughout history
have sought eternal life or that life will continue after death (Stewart Williams). Steve Stewart
Williams, after looking at many arguments for and against life after death, tends to believe that he
does not have a ghost of a chance (Stewart Williams). I tend to agree with this thinking as well.
Stewart Williams shows some cases for life after death and then shows some arguments against it.
Stewart Williams looks at the examples of paranormal phenomena first. These are the ideas of out
of body experiences, near death experiences, ghosts, mediums who communicate with the dead,
and past life memories. If these occurrences were what they appear, they would be proof of an
afterlife, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People may have the wishful thinking without evidence, but it could still be true. Wishful
thinking is not a way of proving that life after death is false. One last argument is resurrection.
This, for Stewart Williams, has many holes. For one, if it is true the body is resurrected, and we
are made of atoms possible from bodies of past people and possible your atoms go into others in
the future, how would God resurrect everyone? Another question Stewart Williams is maybe
God uses other atoms, not within other people, then would you be the same person you were
before death if not made up of the same material you were when alive. I like the thoughts put
forth by Stewart Williams, if we are atoms and those atoms spread after death, then we would not
really be the same. Stewart Williams uses the idea of the you after death is not the same you from
before death you would be a replica. I agree with that, a replica or clone of you from different
atoms would not necessarily be you, almost identically but could not

Racism In Master Harold, By Athol Fugard
Racism, the idea of one s race being superior than others is not an idea we are born with. It is an
idea that is taught by the ones closest to us or simply adapted to due to our very own
surroundings. In the play, Master Harold and the boys, by Athol Fugard, the underlying
message of discrimination and ignorance is incredibly evident. The play takes place in South
Africa in the 1950s during apartheid. It was a time of racial inequality and segregation. The play
is a miniature representation of the circumstances happening in South Africa a parallel time. The
very same circumstances that surround young Hally, a white boy, are the very same that
compete with his future. Sam, a black servant, has always been present in Hally s life. Although
many obstacles have tried to corrupt Hally, Sam has always been there to show him a different
side. Hally is optimistic about change but unknowingly seems to block it. Throughout the play
Master Harold and the boys, Fugard transforms objects such as a kite and a bench into symbols
that project a hidden meaning behind them. For example, the kite in the story takes Hally back to
his childhood. As a child, Hally had a root sense of defeat, dissatisfaction, and shame growing up
alongside a drunk racist father. Although, much of what Hally remembers isn t pleasant, there was
a moment that stuck with him; flying a kite. It was made up of scraps and trash that Sam made for
him, he was shocked that a black man could build such a thing. Both

Windy City Racial Profiling Is An Act Of Discrimination Essay
WINDY CITY RACIAL PROFILING 1
Windy City Racial Profiling
Edin Hodzic
Loyola University Chicago
Introduction Racial profiling is an act of discrimination committed by law enforcement officials in
which they target certain individuals with the suspicion of a crime due to their race, religion, and
culture. In racial profiling, individuals are suspected of committing a crime solely because of their
appearance, which is associated to stereotypes of their people committing crimes. I believe this is a
huge problem in Chicago because many minorities in Chicago especially those in
underdeveloped neighborhoods are affected by this. Not only is racial profiling unlawful, it goes
against what our nations constitution is supposed to protect us from. The amendments are there to
protect us. Racial profiling violates our 4th amendment right, which protects us from
unreasonable searches and seizures. I?d say that being harassed and making the assumption that
someone has committed a wrongdoing based on their physical features and background would
fall under being a very unreasonable act. My goal with this paper is to shed some light on a view
from the past on how racial profiling became an issue and how it is still an issue around the
country including Chicago. This paper will also include what I believe to be solutions to this
growing issue.
Historical Perspective How long ago did racial profiling come to be? Many believe that the concept

Should Children Have Screen Time
Although both arguements seem reasonable I feel there should be a screen time limit for
children. Being in front of a screen takes children away from human interaction. Children should
be playing and using their imagination whether its inside or outside. In personal experiences,
screen play takes a mental and physical toll on children. In my personal opinion there is no reason
to have children in front of a screen for longer than an hour or two a day. While a childis sitting in
front of a screen for hours on end they arent paying any attention to the outisde world or their
surroundings. Instead of playing on a tablet or computer or watching t.v they could be playing a

They should be outside playing games and making their own things up. Children need to use
their own original thinking and problem solving. This will help their brain developement and
skills they will need in life. Screen time is mentally draining for children. The light from the
screen throws off our body clocks and can disrupt sleep. When a child doesnt sleep enough they
are more irritable and their physical activity level will go down. This can also lead into obesity.
Children need physical activity. Whos to say they will go outisde? Well children wont have
many options if screen time is taken away. Even if its not outside they will still be doing
something other than just sitting on a couch. If a child gets enough sleep they will have the
energy to do other things both physically and mentally. Screen play is mentally draining and can
cause depression. In my personal experience with my own son screen play causes him
depression, especially before bed. What ever he watches or plays the night before interupts his
sleep. It also negatively impacts his imagintion, causing him to have night mares. All of this could

Grilling meats and spit roasting over a pit fire are both common even today. Americans use

countries because almost every famous dish is related to frying. Examples include fried chicken,
French fries, burgers and fries, etc. Local families in America like to do baking, which is generally
applied to breads, lasagna, manicotti, pastries and other sweet confections. There is a big difference
between Chinese and American cooking methods. One is mainly concentrated on the color, smell
and shape. The other is always speedy, convenient and cheap.
Secondly, the ingredients in Chinese and American food are different. Chinese cuisine involves rice,
flour, beans, and vegetables. American cuisine is relatively simple and mainly includes meat,
bread and vegetables. For the Chinese one, most dishes include rice, because it is the main crop
of many Asian countries and is used in almost every capacity. Not only steamed rice, but rice

because it is high in protein. It is used heavily in regions with a tradition of Buddhism. Third,
sauces are important to flavor rice and stir fry. Soy sauce, oyster sauce, black bean sauce, and fish

Defining Prostitution Essay
Defining Prostitution
Prostitution is a word which applies to far more circumstances than its usual legal definition which
is about prohibiting massive whoring . I have a very simple way of defining prostitution:
Prostitution is when you do something for money that you wouldn t be doing without being paid.
You will find under this definition that there are quite a few whores who are not prostitutes, for
they actually love what they do, and would continue to engage in promiscuous sex even without
the monetary reward. What would be shocking to the average person is to realize that the average
person is in fact a prostitute. Most people do the jobs they do only for the money, not because ...

business transaction. The liberal contends that a woman is free to enter into contracts. Liberal

Marxism
Marxist feminism arises out of the doctrines of Karl Marx, whose theory is centered less on the
material aspects of life than on the more broadly defined social one. Prostitution is a form of
labor and therefore has been specifically noted as falling under the designation of a corruption of
wage labor. Marx asserted that prostitution is only a specific expression of the general prostitution
of the laborer. Prostitutes may feel that they are free, but looking at the larger economic picture in
Marxist terms, they are in reality oppressed workers reinforcing an exploitative capitalistic scheme.
Classical Marxism conceives the bourgeois mainly as founded on the unremitting basis of capitalism
: private gain. The rhetoric of commodities pervades the family, as women, lacking access to the
public sphere, are forced to link themselves to men for financial reasons. Accordingly, sex within
capitalist marriage is viewed as a form of prostitution.

The Swing By Jean-Honore Fragonard Essay
The eighteenth century, rococo era, remained a light hearted time being pre revolutionary.
Transpired a period that the postmodern world would attempt to emulate. After Louis XIV died,
things became more excessive. Sculpture became more delicately carved while architecture
metamorphose a more decorative and successful. Paintings of the aristocracy in pastel colors,

Women s textile dresses were excessive, to say the least. Rooms were smaller to make everything

embodiment of the Rococoera paintings. Born in Grasse of the French Riviera, 1732, Fragonard,

Amelia s Grief In The Babadody
The Babadook is an Australian made film created, and directed by Jennifer Kent. The film was
released in two thousand fourteen, and rated a seven out of ten by movie critics. The Babadook
follows single parent, Amelia, who loses her husband in a car accident at the beginning of the
movie on the way to give birth to their son Samuel. Amelia and Samuel are both struggling to cope
with his death. Samuel has begun to misbehave in school, and has discovered an imaginary
monster friend whom is quite often troublesome. One night Amelia reads Samuel a nighttime

Discuss the Concept of Cultural Capital Essay
Discuss the concept of cultural capital Pierre Bourdieu developed the concept of cultural capital in
order to attempt to explain the differences in educational outcomes in France during the 1960 s.
Cultural capital is theorised as the forms of knowledge, skill, education; any advantages a person
has which, give them a higher status in society, including high expectations (Nick Stevenson,
1995.pp.46 48). This differentiates economic and social status from the class agenda which, is

A patio is an outdoor space sited directly on the ground and may be linked to the house or built in
a separate part of the yard. Patios often have concrete bases, and some homeowners utilize stone,
tile, pavers, brick or other materials to build the foundation. In most cases patios do not include a

Traditionally, the lifespan of a wood structure is about seven eight years if it s not cared for. This

Squeaky is walking down Broadway with Raymond, her brother, all of a sudden she sees Gretchen
and her sidekicks. Gretchen and her nasty sidekicks like to tease Raymond because Raymond has
mental disabilities.

Luciano Essay
No other New York gangster in the twentieth century matched the capabilities of the sinister, crafty,
powerful, and secretive Charles Lucky Luciano. Who with the help of his closest friends and allies,
even enemies, established the National Crime Syndicate in the early 1930s, which still remains
today (Nash 251). Lucky Luciano, the true American gangster, rewrote the rules of the ItalianMafia,
under control of old line Sicilianrule, and created an organization open to all ethnic backgrounds
(Dewey). He worked his way from being a struggling messenger for a small gang, to eventually
becoming the Capo di Tutti Capi (the Boss of All Bosses), the highest ranking in the Mafia
(Dewey). During his reign,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Luciano kept the code of omerta (silence) and served his jail time (Kohn). Proving his
loyalty, the Five Points Gang made him a full fledged member.
Luciano, a quick witted and pleasurable personality, liked the highlife. He lived by one simple
fact; Money is everything and he went through anything in order to get that money (Mobsters).
Luciano believed in his friends, and later took a face altering knife wound in the face, that left
him with an evil droop in his right eye. This was the aftermath of the ride , where he was bound,
beat up, and left to die, only because he refused to do business with people that refused business
with non Italians. His best friend and business partner, Meyer Lansky, happened to be Jewish.
Lansky later helped Luciano win the Castellammarese War by giving him this advise, which
Luciano would forever live by: The winner will be the one who gets his enemy to trust him
(Mobsters).
The strengths of Luciano stood out above everything else, loyalty being just one of them.
Luciano showed great compassion towards his friends, and always seemed to be one step ahead
of everyone else. He possessed the ability to be able to see around the next corner. This helped
him tremendously during the Castellammarese War; a war between the two Sicilian bosses of New

Fall Of The Romanov Dynasty Essay
The Romanovs were a dynasty that reigned Russia for three centuries between the years of 1613
to 1917. The Romanovs had a prominent role in Russia ruling as any other would following
custom however, once the last tsar took over the empire things began to take a turn for the worst.
There are several factors that could take responsibility for the fall of the Romanovs which include:
resistance from the people, incompetent rulers, political and economic complications that began to
arise.
The tsars were no longer able to satisfy the desires of the people. The people had high expectations
of the dynasty that Nicolas was just not able to deliver. Conferring to the text The tsar s
government had lost touch with the people not the 120 million peasants but with the few thousand
in the immediate entourage of the dynasty and the essential bureaucrats (). To be quite specific it
was members of the duma who were dissatisfied with the way things were being handled. They
were an advisory body who sought great changes in the Russian empire.

Taking on the responsibility of ruling an empire is a task that requires someone who is
passionate and willing to adjust to change. One must be able to take advice from others in areas
that they may need assist with because they may not be as experienced. However, Nicolas II
refused to take on those actions or even display those characteristics. The two factors of the
decline of the empire: resistance from the people and incompetent rulers pretty much go hand and
hand; when there is not a competent ruler the people will not be happy. Being a ruler means that
people look up to you to make changes and address issues as they come. As individuals began to

Innocence In The Fifth Child
I used The Innocent Youth to analyze The Very Old Man With Enormous Wings by Gabriel GarcГ
a
MГЎrquez, The Fifth Child by Doris Lessing, and The Things They Carried By Tim O Brien.
Using the definition of innocent youth, a character inexperienced with many weaknesses who
seeks safety with others; others like him/her because of the trust he or she shows in other people.
Usually, the experience of coming of age comes in the later parts of the narratives provided to me.
Also, using a basic definition of innocent, lacking experience with the world and the bad things that
happen in life . After reading all three of these books, there is a common element among them.
Whether it is an old man that chooses to act like a child. Perhaps... Show more content on

From the beginning of Harriet s pregnancy she knew something was different. She was always in
pain and when she finally gave birth to the child, Ben, he was different. He was not a pretty
baby. He did not look like a baby at all. He even looked different and was also very strong. Has he
grew up, he was always getting into trouble. Some reasons why I believe Ben is innocent is his
age. Especially, when he was the age of an infant. Even though Harriet said he is different, we
hope that she is crazy. No baby is evil. Typically, kids that are young don t know how to act. So,
his parents can t really be blame him for his actions. Also, his parents don t know why he acts the
way he does. Ben could have a mental problem his parents are unaware of. However, some
people would consider him not to be innocent. Usually, when a child is born they don t effect the
woman the way Ben did to Harriet. Then when the child is born they aren t as strong as Ben.
There is however another character that is innocent. Amy, daughter of Sarah and William, is
innocent because she has Down Syndrome. Down Syndrome effects intellectual growth and makes
it difficult for her to know what is right or wrong for her age. Lessing main goal wasn t to add
innocence in her book. Her goal was to take something that everyone knows to be innocent and
change it into something that s not. She did this by adding in supernatural touches. She did
however include Amy as innocent to compare her with

World War 1 And Its Effect On Russia s Disorganization
The First world was a key factor for the uprise of the February revolution, it reflected on Russia s
disorganisation. The poorly led army was scarcely equipped; at least one third of solders had no
rifles. Food, and clothing supplies were limited, but organisation of food in the cities was
considerably worse. The food for the solders were prioritised over the people in the cities but World
War 1 only added to the stress, food production and delivery was halted due to Russias lack of
modernised infrastructure and functional transport at a time of such an outrageous demand. The
tsar s demand for men removed skilled workers from farms, railways and other important industries

Influence Of Peter The Great
There have been many absolute rulers that ruled societies throughout history. Some of those
rulers that had power would use it to either abuse their power to control everyone and have their
own rules or the rulers would enlighten their power and give the people more privileges. One
ruler that enlightened his power was Peter the Great. Peter the great used his power to improve
society and used ideas from the ruler before. Those ideas from the ruler before that was never
used peter the great took those ideas and made the ideas happen for the people and society.
When peter the great first came into power peter the great wanted to take old ideas and improve
them for him the people and society. peter the the great wanted to change how the people looked
and dressed and Peter the Great made people shave their beards if they wanted to keep their beards
they would have to pay a special tax in order to keep the beard. Peter wanted the people also to get
rid of their old clothes and wear new clothes that were better. Peter as a ruler made sure his ideas
could be perfect for him and the people and make sure his ideas were what the people wanted. One

Living Without Living
I thought this every hour of every day for a very long time: I want my mother. My mother is
dead. (Strayed). Cheryl Strayed was flooded with an overwhelming amount of grief when she
lost her mother to cancer. In her mind she was too young to die, which left Cheryl angry at her
mother for dying. She lived under the guidance of her mother all of her life, and suddenly it was
gone. Many people find themselves crying in bed for days or months, leaning on their family and
friends, or exercises more in order to find some outlet for their grief. However, Cheryl found the
best coping mechanism to be repeatedly committing adultery on her faithful husband Pete and
becoming addicted to heroin. Throughout her book, Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific
Crest Trail, Strayed expresses remorse, but she does not write as though she is ashamed of her
infidelity or drug addiction. The lack of shametowards her errors is a weakness and reveals a serious
flaw in Cheryl s character.
In order to accurately understand why the lack of shame is a character flaw and not a strength we
need to briefly look at the difference between shame and remorse. Shame causes an individual to
feel not only sorrow for their action, but also humilation. The embarrassment helps prevent a person
from repeating their mistakes. On the other hand, when someone experiences remorse they feel
regret but they do not feel embarrassed by their actions. Since their pride is not affected with
humiliation, the person is

Descriptive Essay On The Insane Asylum
The Insane Asylum.
One day I walked into one of my client s room and stopped dead. Written in what looked like
charcoal was a bunch of people s torsos and heads. There was blood all over the bed and the client
was under the bed literally deflated. No bones, blood, organs, just the skin and eyeballs. I had
immediately ran back out and got a guard and when we came back to the room the body was gone.
One of the drawings had a great big x across it written in more blood. Freaking out, we had called
the cops and shut and locked every door. Two weeks had passed the police force couldn t figure
out who had killed the man, especially since there was no body to work with. Going back into
the crime scene I counted all the people on the wall. The same amount on the wall was the same
amount of clients we had plus one. Just then I heard a high pitched scream and watched a great
big x appear in blood on a charcoaled person. I knew immediately what had happened.
Racing toward the scream looking through the rooms I saw something that will haunt my dreams
forever. A client was throwing up all her own blood, organs, and bones with a shadowy figure
behind her holding a bottle. Right after I burst into her room the lights flickered off into a
complete darkness. I was pushed down and a drop acid green liquid landed on my shoulder and
burned me. It hurt so bad that it had knocked me out cold.
When I had awaken I was on the couch in my boss s office. He looked grave as he spoke, As I hear
it you were in Elena s room when she died and I would like to know everything that had happened.
The sooner you tell me the better because there are five dead in total now.
Well, I heard a scream and I started running to the noise looking through the rooms as I passed.
When I got to her room I had looked through and she was vomiting her bones, organs, and blood
up. There was also a shadow like object or... or a someone holding a bottle. I ran into the room and
it went pitch black something knocked me over and then green acid type stuff landed on my
shoulder and burned me. That is all I remember.
Well, I don t know what to do except to move them out of the hospital completely or to station a
guard right outside of each room. There was a long

Sally Cabaret Essay
Cabaret starts off with the main character Sally Bowles, who is a burlesque dancer who works at
Kit Kat Klub. Sally Bowles character is based off on the same Sally Bowlers in Goodbye to
Berlin . I believe the interpretation of Sally Bowles is similar to the book, but I conceived her
character is too overly sexual in the movie, compared to the book. I think that Sally is over
sexualized in the movie, because she is seen a lot of time in skimpy clothes. Sally Bowles meets
an Oxford student name Brian Roberts, whom she brings to the lodges. I believe that Brian
Roberts is derived to the author, Christopher Isherwood himself. Both Brian and Christopher in the
movie and in the novel, both fall in love with Sally for similar reasons. Brian learns... Show more

Critical Discourse Analysis For An International Crisis...
Methodology
Critical discourse analysis
For an international crisis happening thousands miles away, it is not sufficient to be understood
without acknowledging itself as a mediated complex. From critical linguistics perspective,
Fowler (1991/2013) believes news is socially constructed. What events are reported is not a
reflection of intrinsic importance of those events, but reveals the operation of a complex and
artificial set of criteria for selection (p. 2). The news media select events for reporting according to
a complex set of criteria of newsworthiness; so news is not simply that which happens, but that
which can be regarded and presented as newsworthy (p.13).
Filtered by the latent criteria, the final representation of Hong Kong protests in Canadian press is
the outcome of social inclusion and exclusion. In Fowler s sense, representation is a constructive
practice. Hong Kong protests are not communicated neutrally in natural structure per se. Instead,
they were transmitted through the Canadian press with its own structural features permeated by
Canadian social values. The discourse of Hong Kong protests reflects the social actions
accomplished by language users when they communicate in social situations and within society and
culture at large (van Dijk, 1997, pp. 13 14).
So to speak, studying how the protests were represented requires not only analyzing texts or
processes of production and interpretation, but also analyzing the relationship between texts,

Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia Essay
Congenital adrenal hyperplasia is a well known autosomal recessive disorder and the vast
majority, approximately 95%, of cases are due to a deficiency of 21 alpha hydroxylase. The other
common type of CAH is caused by a deficiency of 11 beta hydroxylase. In both types of the
disorder, the adrenal gland is unable to produce sufficient amounts of cortisoland aldosterone. CAH
is estimated to manifest in 1 of every 15,000 live births. In the United States, the prevalence of the
disorder is lower in African American children in comparison to Caucasians. Moreover, the
decreased synthesis of cortisol results in diminished negative feedback of adrenocorticotropic
hormone(ATCH) and over secretion of ACTH. This pathological increase of ACTH in an attempt
to increase serum cortisol levels is prevented because of the lack of appropriate enzymes and
actually results in increased androgen... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, affected males present normally at birth with some showing signs of
hyperpigmentation of the scrotum or a large phallus. It is recommended that surgery on females

Individuals with CAH are also at higher risk of early pubertal development and short stature as
adults. Additionally, fertility rates in women with classic 21 alpha hydroxylase CAH are low,
while most males with the disorder are fertile as adults with a minority exhibiting evidence of
Leydig cell failure and impaired spermatogenesis. In patients with classic 21 alpha hydroxylase
CAH there is an elevated serum 17 hydroxyprogesterone concentration of higher than 1200 ng/dL.

  • 2. Low-speed Circulating Wind Tunnels Essay Introduction When a viscous fluid flows along a fixed impermeable wall, or past the rigid surface of an immersed body, an essential condition is that a velocity at any point on the wall or other fixed surface is zero. To the extent to which the condition modifies the general character of the flow is dependent on the viscosity of the fluid. If a body has a streamlined shape and the fluid flowing over the body has a small viscosity that is not negligible, the modifying effect appears to be confined to the narrowest regions adjacent to the solid surfaces; these are called boundary layers. Within these layers, there is a rapid change in velocity which gives rise to a large velocity gradient normal to the boundary which produces a shear stress... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the medium air speed wind tunnels where wind speed ranges from 1.5 40m/s, several types of wind tunnels can be applied. At first, an open suction type wind tunnel can have a large test section with high contraction ratio [3]. This type of wind tunnel has a large inlet area to take motionless air to the test section. Air filters can be installed before the inlet to prevent any dust from entering the test section and disturbing the air flow [3]. It also provides a pressure drop to generate uniform flow at the inlet. A honeycomb shaped panel and several sheets of screens are installed in the settling chamber of the wind tunnel. The contraction section makes the air flow more uniform and stable. A diffuser is placed downstream of the test section to prevent an adverse pressure gradient. This is done by increasing the cross sectional area along the main flow direction [3]. When the open suction type wind tunnel is used for calibration purposes, air in front of the inlet section should be as dormant as possible [3].A baffle or a restraint can be installed at the inlet section to prevent any flow disturbances at the inlet of the wind tunnel [3]. However, if there are any fluctuations in the air at the inlet, a closed type wind tunnel can prevent this. In a closed type wind tunnel, air is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. What Does Vasudeva Teach Siddhartha It s the Final Countdown Thesis: Vasudeva, Young Siddartha, and Govinda all help Siddartha achieve enlightenment because they taught him the Four Noble Truths. Vasudeva, the Ferryman, taught Siddartha about the Fourth Noble Truth, the eightfold path. Though Vasudeva does not directly teach each individual aspect of the eightfold path, it can be argued that since the eightfold path is visualized as a wheel Vasudeva teachings are all connected to each aspect. An important characteristic of Vasudeva is that he is a listener, he rarely talks. His listening skills show Siddartha Right Speech because it is about speaking when needed and paying attention to the other person. From Vasudeva, Siddharthalearned to listen to the voices of the river. Usually he would hear many voices from the river, but with the help of Vasudeva he learns that All of it together was the flow of events, was the music of life. And when Siddhartha was listening attentively to this river, this song of a thousand voices, when he neither listened to the suffering nor the laughter, when he did not tie his soul to any particular voice and submerged his self ... • 7. A Visit From The Goonsquad In recent years, Pulitzer Prize winning fiction novels clearly differ in theme and style. The 2011 winner, Jennifer Egan s A Visit from the Goonsquad, is a multi faceted, complex narrative focused on the music industry. In 2013, Adam Johnson s The Orphan Master s Son, a historical fiction novel on North Korea, took the prize. Though these novels take place in different countries and deal with diverging topics, they do have one thing in common: in each of these Pulitzer Prize winning novels, secondary female characters become deified, allowing the reader to attach the sensation of hope onto them. This occurs in Egan s novel, as Lulu comes to represent the promise of a new generation. The same phenomenon occurs with Sun Moon in The Orphan... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dolly describes her daughter as the rod around which the wires were wrapped, regal, and flushed, smelling of perfume or freshly baked brownies. (190) Lulu is associated with diction that holds positive connotations. She holds subtle wisdom for her young age, and all encompassing femininity. Lulu is the antithesis to other characters in the novel whom we see grow up. Of course, other children are characterized throughout Sasha s kids, Lou s children, Bennie and his high school clan but Lulu is the only character we see transition into an adult, without losing her youth. Even Kitty, a symbol of youth and sensuality, is presented in a vulnerable light as having spidery lines and being ragged (193). It seems as if this continuous mention of youth is central to Lulu s deification. As an adult, Lulu s deification is intensified. When Alex meets her, he remarks, The slanted winter sun ignited Lulu s hair, making a nimbus around her face (341). Here, Alex notices a white cloud forming around Lulu s face, an image reminiscent of a Saint s aureole depicted in religious iconography. Not only does Lulu become other worldly in her physical attributes, but in her actions. During the final chapter of the novel, Alex and Bennie attempt to force Scotty to play music. They are physical unable to contain him. However, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. My Mother As A Hero Sitting on my mother s lap has always been the safest place for me. Although she beholds a lovely image, I imagine her as a fearless warrior ready and armed to attack anyone who dared to touch her child. I admired my mother s strength as I watched her work for tireless hours, but, furthermore, I admired her willingness to sacrifice resting time in order to be with my siblings and me. Although my motherdid not have a warrior s armor consisting of a sword and shield, listening to her stories about Mexico, her love for my father, and their struggle in America, she became that fearless fighter who protected me and guided me through hardships. Unlike my mother, I was not fearless. I could not watch horror movies because I would not sleep for weeks. I could not stand in a pitch black room because I would search frantically for a ray of light. Many times I would awake terror stricken and call out for my mother, yet due to her night shifts she would not answer. I would spend entire nights looking at the ceiling, hoping for the sun to rise, and for my mother to show. These immense fears, which plagued my childhood, have been the ones to teach me that great courage is needed in life. I would force myself to be brave or to at least act brave. Not having my mother come to me every time I called for her, made me realize that I cannot depend on anybody to get me through obstacles, especially, if that obstacle is my own fear. Going through life I stuck to acting brave. When I once cried ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Henry VIII Essay The major endeavours of Henry VIII during his reign over England from 1509 to 1547 included the Field of the Cloth of Gold and the Reformation of the English Church. The sole reason for these actions is said to be love and seems to be related to the King s obsession for a male heir but other factors were involved. Paramount among these is the influence of his family in the earlier years of his life. Other reasons such as general insecurities and competitiveness with other royal houses are also possible motives. To say that the major endeavours of Henry VIII during his reign were motivated by his obsession with a male heir is not completely accurate as other, more viable, explanations are available. The influence of Henry VIII s family ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Henry s grandmother, Margaret Beaufort, like her son, had an extreme impact on the young Henry VIII. She was an influential force at court and dominated her grandchildren s lives in discipline, religion and education as Wilson investigates in Reformer and Tyrant . There was little love for Henry in his earlier years as he had not been the heir until his brother died and so in this way his love for women and sport, which would be reflected in his latter years, grew. Henry VIII s Family was critical in the descisions made towardsthe major endeavours of his reign although they had been dead for years. Henry VIII s love of Anne Boleyn was supposedly the catalyst to the reformation of the English church. Henry VIII had not loved Anne but seems to have been merely infatuated with her as in 1528 when Anne was overcome with the sweating sickness Henry fled terrified of dying without an heir. The fact that Anne was beheaded for adultery (which constituted treason) three years after her initial coronation on 31st May 1533 was also proof that love had not caused this major endeavour of Henry s time. Henry was obsessed with an heir after his first wife, Catherine of Aragon , could not produce a male but only several miscarriages, three infants who were either still born or died immediately after birth, two infants who had died within a few weeks of birth and one girl . • 10. Nebulas Research Papers Have you ever looked up at the sky on a clear night and wondered, what else is out there? . What could possibly lie beyond the beautiful blanket of stars that we see with our naked eye? Nebulas are one of many galactic phenomena that lie beyond the Kuiper belt. Mysterious and fascinatingly beautiful sights to behold, they have more of a purpose than just painting the galaxybackdrop with color. I m not a diehard fan of astronomy and to be perfectly honest I find it difficult to follow most of the information I have learned. However, when I came across pictures and information on nebulas I was instantly fascinated. From how and why they re formed, to what they do for the galaxy, I m excited to take you on an intellectual journey though nebulas. At first glance, one might think that nebulas are made of light and that they have no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This however, is far from the truth. Previously it was believed that the dark areas in the sky were just blank spaces between the stars, however it is now known that these blank spaces aren t so blank after all (Koupelis p.367). Astronomers have discovered that they are in fact large clouds of dust, or interstellar dust to be precise, that instead block out the light from the stars behind it (Koupelis p.367). The term nebula has its origin in the adjective nebulous, which means lacking definite form or limits (Koupelis p.370). Much like the clouds that we see here on Earth, nebulas also come in all shapes and sizes. Per scientists, nebulas are defined as being an interstellar cloud of dust, hydrogen, helium, and other ionized gases (Wikipedia). These large areas of dust and other particles thrive in an area known as the interstellar medium and are formed when the interstellar medium goes through a gravitational collapse (Universe). • 11. Essay On Athletic Director Duties When comparing the list of athletic duties across the four schools, we found more similarities than differences. In our group we have two public schools which consist of Scoggins Middle School in McKinney, TX with 1,100 students and 7 sports teams, and Lakin High School in Lakin, Kansas with 400 students and 15 sports teams. We also have two private schools; Loyola Academy located in Wilmette, IL has 2,000 students with 24 sports teams, and Cary Academy (Middle and High School) located in Cary, NC has 800 students and 49 sports teams. A key similarity between the four schools is scheduling. One of the main athletic director duties is the scheduling of both home and away games, scheduling referees, and scheduling transportation for away games. This important duty for any athletic director can take up a large part of their time depending on how many teams they have per season. Another area where we saw similarities is in staff management. In our four schools, it is the role of the athletic director to hire the coaching staff, provide the necessary training, provide feedback and guidance, and to help mediate conflicts with parents and student athletes. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the differences we observed was in budget management. For instance, in one of the private schools listed, the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is responsible for raising money to help fund the athletic program. In this case, the athletic director does not need to allocate any funds for fundraising events or marketing. In the public schools, athletic directors are responsible for raising money through fundraising events, booster clubs, and parent fees to help pay for equipment, facilities, coaches, ... Nacirema Horace Miner Summary The reason why Horace Miner writes this article to express people s language, beliefs, and norms as well as material objects that are passed down from generations compared to Americans. Thus creating what is known as a culture. Making things seem abnormal than what we as Americans are accustomed to known as norms. No two cultures are exactly alike they all differ from one another, for example the Nacirema present such an unusual aspect that it seems desirable to describe them as an example of the extremes to which human behavior can go. • 14. Science Should Progress Through Falsification And... Popper believes science should progress through falsification and demarcation as a way to distinguish real scientific theories from pseudoscience. (A. Popper) Falsification is how a scientist should look at a problem they are attempting to solve instead of using existing theories and treating them as scientific laws you should instead try and prove existing theories wrong using emperical evidence to solve the questions being asked. (A. Popper) believes Science keeps moving forward and the only way to progress is to prove existing theories wrong, replacing them with new theories. In contrast verification of theories (attempting to prove a theory right) holds little water with Popper this is because proving a theory right has already been done. All a researcher must do to prove a theory right is duplicate a previous study or experiment and this according to (A. Popper) is not science and is not the advancement of scientific knowledge. Furthermore (A. Popper 4.0 The growth of Human Knowledge) Popper believes science is falsifiable and that their are no true facts. The scientific methoduses a deductive process. However this deductice process does not compare the hypothesis and conclusions with the actual theory. All observations and conclusions are theory based. Keyence Vhx-5000 Week 3 Problem Analysis Paper The digital microscope Keyence VHX 5000 is a method, which is easy to handle and supports research with high resolution images and the calculation of 3D surface models. Several functions make it easy and quick to work with: The 3D function also allows clear 2D images of a rough surface, because all levels are focused automatically and a sharp image of all levels will be created. This function makes it easy to analyse deep cuts, which can be only partially focused in light microscopy or electron microscopy. To calculate a 3D surface model the lower and upper border of the depth of interest has to be determined, by focusing on these levels. Between these borders a level difference of five microns were chosen. In other words, after every scan the lens moves five microns from the sample away.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Higher resolutions till one micrometre are also possible, but the number of scanned levels is restricted. Therefore it is possible to analyse fine cut marks in a higher resolution, but in this case, cuts were up to 1 mm deep and a smaller resolution is sufficient. Using this resolution, the ends of cuts, which are very flat, were excluded because their size is approximately under 15 microns and therefore inaccuracies in measurement increase, which might influence the ... Marxism Marxist feminism arises out of the doctrines of Karl Marx, whose theory is centered less on the material aspects of life than on the more broadly defined social one. Prostitution is a form of labor and therefore has been specifically noted as falling under the designation of a corruption of wage labor. Marx asserted that prostitution is only a specific expression of the general prostitution of the laborer. Prostitutes may feel that they are free, but looking at the larger economic picture in Marxist terms, they are in reality oppressed workers reinforcing an exploitative capitalistic scheme. Classical Marxism conceives the bourgeois mainly as founded on the unremitting basis of capitalism : private gain. The rhetoric of commodities pervades the family, as women, lacking access to the public sphere, are forced to link themselves to men for financial reasons. Cheryl Strayed was flooded with an overwhelming amount of grief when she lost her mother to cancer. In her mind she was too young to die, which left Cheryl angry at her mother for dying. She lived under the guidance of her mother all of her life, and suddenly it was gone. Many people find themselves crying in bed for days or months, leaning on their family and friends, or exercises more in order to find some outlet for their grief. The lack of shametowards her errors is a weakness and reveals a serious flaw in Cheryl s character. In order to accurately understand why the lack of shame is a character flaw and not a strength we need to briefly look at the difference between shame and remorse. Shame causes an individual to feel not only sorrow for their action, but also humilation. The embarrassment helps prevent a person from repeating their mistakes. • 54. Critical Discourse Analysis For An International Crisis... Methodology Critical discourse analysis For an international crisis happening thousands miles away, it is not sufficient to be understood without acknowledging itself as a mediated complex. From critical linguistics perspective, Fowler (1991/2013) believes news is socially constructed. What events are reported is not a reflection of intrinsic importance of those events, but reveals the operation of a complex and artificial set of criteria for selection (p. 2). The news media select events for reporting according to a complex set of criteria of newsworthiness; so news is not simply that which happens, but that which can be regarded and presented as newsworthy (p.13). Filtered by the latent criteria, the final representation of Hong Kong protests in Canadian press is the outcome of social inclusion and exclusion. In Fowler s sense, representation is a constructive practice. Hong Kong protests are not communicated neutrally in natural structure per se. Instead, they were transmitted through the Canadian press with its own structural features permeated by Canadian social values. The discourse of Hong Kong protests reflects the social actions accomplished by language users when they communicate in social situations and within society and culture at large (van Dijk, 1997, pp. 13 14). So to speak, studying how the protests were represented requires not only analyzing texts or processes of production and interpretation, but also analyzing the relationship between texts, ...
