Producing the First Atomic Bomb
Introduction Uranium is a dense radioactive metal that is used in nuclear reactors. It is found in
nature and has two large isotopes, U 235 and U 238. The energy that is produced in nuclear
reactors is from the splitting or fission of the U 235 atoms. It releases energy in most cases in the
form of heat; U 235 is the main splitting isotope of uranium. Uranium enriched is required to be in
light water reactors, which allows controlled nuclear reaction.
Processes for Uranium Enrichment When producing the first atomic bomb, scientists from the
Manhattan Project thought about multiple processes for uranium enrichment, now we have a few
that we use which is Gaseous Diffusion also known as Effusion, Gas Centrifuge, and Laser
separation. Gaseous diffusion is a technology that produces enriched uranium by forcing uranium
hexafluoride through pipelines and then pumped through filters called barriers. This makes it
where there is a slight separation between molecules, which contain uranium 235, and uranium
238. There are hundreds of barriers because one barrier isn t enough to make uranium
hexafluoride gas contain enough U238 that can be used in reactors. We only have on plant left
and it is located in Paducah, Kentucky. The Gas Centrifuge was made to replace Gaseous
Diffusion, it is a device that performs isotope separation of gases and it s the preferred way because
it takes less time, and takes less energy. We have these plants in New Mexico, Idaho and Ohio.

The first project entitled Contemporary City is for a city of 3 million inhabitants.
The city comprised a group of skyscrapers cross shaped steel frames and glass walls giants,
housing offices and homes for the rich, each placed in rectangular green areas. In their midst is a
large transport hub with highways on several levels, and an airport on the top floor. Le Corbusier
separates the pedestrian access routes for cars, the unconditional supporter of cars as a means of
transport.
The workers lived in the suburbs in zigzag blocks.
The next project, Radiant City is built along the same principles, only blocks are no longer built on
social criteria, but on the number of family members.
Le Corbusier s early work was related to nature, but as his ideas progressed, he developed the
Maison Domino, a basic building concept for mass production with free standing pillars and rigid
floors. He settled in Paris in 1917 where he published his book called Vers une architecture
(Towards a New Architecture), based on his earlier articles in L Esprit

Barry Minkow
Barry Minkow Misrepresentation and Ponzi in 1987 Establishment of ZZZZ Best Company
When he was a sophomore in high school, Barry Minkow founded a carpet cleaning company
ZZZZ Best Company in his parents garage. At that time, the carpet cleaning industry has few entry
barriers and all Minkow needed was a small amount of start up capital. However, he soon found
out that his firm was actually tough to survive in the industry as the ease of entry means fierce
competition. The young man encountered a series of trouble: bad checks, complaints from
customers, urge for payment from suppliers and finally the shortage of working capital. Not
surprisingly, the bank refused to loan money to his low profit margin company. Minkow would like

Minkow became a billionaire and an American success story. By February 1987, on paper, the
company which Minkow claimed had about 1,300 employees in some two dozen offices was
worth nearly 300 million dollars. Minkow s personal worth reportedly topped $100 million. He
began to live a luxury life including driving a red Ferrari with a ZZZZ BEST license plate and
appearing on Oprah. Minkow s business had been clearly a Ponzi scheme. He promised investors
highly returns on the insurance restorations business, but in reality, investors were being repaid
with money from new investors. Some of the loans were negotiated at outrageous rates of interest
so that they were obtained fast enough to pay off earlier loans. ZZZZ Best did operate its carpet
cleaning business which differed itself from a typical Ponzi and the carpet cleaning division won
high marks for its quality.iii However, its insurance restoration division was totally a phony
department and little real business existed. Fooling the auditors As the company went public, ZZZZ
Best was subjected to the audit of its financial statement. George Greenspan, the performer of the
audit, reviewed the copies of the insurance restoration jobs and then confirmed its existence in the
report to SEC. He also calculated various kinds of ratios of the company and concluded that they
were in line with the industry

One of the most applicable theories used in the nursing profession involves Pavalko s eight
dimensions. These are applicable to broad and focused discussion of the nursing profession.
Pavalko s statement greatly defines the major areas of the nursing profession (Zerwekh, Garneau,
2013). Furthermore, it also says something about the specialties that are present in the current
practice of nursing. Pavalko s eight dimensions can be used by nursing students to further explore
the limitless possibilities that the nursing profession can offer. Educators can also broaden
existing knowledge in order to fit the needs of today s students. In actuality, Pavalko s eight
dimensions hits every corner of the nursing profession however, one of Pavalko s eight dimensions
is greatly applicable to the nursing profession. It states that a profession has a training or
educational period. This greatly applies to nursing; however, being a health professional together
with having trends of evidence based practice, it puts nurses as lifelong learners (Zerwekh, Garneau,
2013). . A true nurse must possess the knowledge necessary to provide adequate care. This is
especially true in handling patients with complex cases. One must be quick in thinking and can
adapt to most situations. Although academic prowess shown by a student is not a priority, the
extrinsic factor for the love of the humanities is the most important thing that all

A Report on The Macroeconomics of the United Arab Emirates and its Real Estate Sector
Macroeconomic background
Q1.
The table below contains the calculated growth rates of the nominal GDP for the period 2010
2015. It shows that the highest growth rate was registered in 2011 so, we can say that from 2010
to 2011 the nominal GDP in the United Arab Emirateshas increased by 21.84%. On the other side,
the highest decrease of the nominal GDP was registered last year when the GDP decreased by
7.30%.
For example, in 2010 the GDP growth rate is:
G_Y= (Y_2010 Y_2009)/Y_2009 =(286049.34 253547.36)/253547.36=12.82% Table 1. The growth

The relationship between TFP and stock prices has been observed by analysts for centuries and
most of their results conclude that a growth in the stock prices generates a growth in productivity
on the long term. So the shocks that have an impact on the stock prices and stimulate companies to
invest in new technologies affect productivity on the long term because it usually takes time for the
new technologies to be implemented and generate productivity (Comin et al. 2016).
The relationship between stock prices and total factor productivity is explored by plotting the
productivity over the last 5 years and the evolution of the average annual growth rate of the Dubai
Financial Market (DFM) index. The evolution of the two variables shows there is a weak negative
relationship on the short term between them so, we can say that the productivity numbers are not
consistent with the stock prices. Figure 1. TFP and DFM index

Looking at the evolution of the DFM index, we observe there was a concern of a stock market
bubble in 2014 because the stock prices were driven very high. However, their expansion was
followed in 2015 2016 by a relatively smooth contraction. Figure 2. The Evolution of the DFM

Anti Transcendentalism In The Scarlet Letter
The Scarlet Letter, written by Nathaniel Hawthorne in the 1800s, takes place in a New England
Puritan society in the 1600s. Hawthorne was an anti transcendentalist, the great nephew of John
Hathorne, who believed that all humans have an innate darkness within them. Hathorne was the
only judge who did not apologize for the Salem Witch Trials. The basis of anti transcendentalism
also included that the forest/nature is evil because that is where the devil lives, and that society was
good because it kept humans from giving in to their evil natures. Hawthorne uses symbolism, a
literary device that uses objects and people to stand for something outside themselves, throughout
the book to depict and explain many events. In his novel, The Scarlet Letter,... Show more content

Chillingworth and Dimmesdale were discussing herbs, and the conversation quickly took a turn.
Soon, they were talking about what happens to one s guilt when they die. For example, if weeds
grow on a grave, is it the guilt that has sprung up from the sinful heart? They also debated on
reasons why a man might hide his guilt, all hypothetical of course. The two men, hearing a child s
laughter, stopped their conversation to see who it was. Pearl and Hester were in the graveyard
below. Pearl picked a handful of burrs, which stand for guilt that connects Hester to Dimmesdale.
Hawthorne explains, ... she arranged them along the lines of the scarlet letter that decorated the
maternal bosom... with a bright, but naughty smile of mirth and intelligence, she threw one of the
prickly burrs at the Reverend Mr. Dimmesdale (Hawthorne 122). Through Pearl s act of sticking
the burrs on her mother s scarlet letter and throwing one at Dimmesdale, she is connecting him to
the letter, essentially the same sin as Hester s. The scarlet letter is the sin, and the burrs are the
guilt tying Hester and Dimmesdale to one sin. Right after Pearl threw the burr, Dimmesdale ducked
away. Hawthorne writes, The sensitive clergyman shrunk, with nervous dread, from the light
missile. Detecting his emotion, Pearl clapped her little hands in the most extravagant ecstacy... old
Black Man will catch you! He hath got hold of the minister already (Hawthorne 122). Dimmesdale
had a chance to accept and admit his guilt, but he shied away. Then, when Pearl says the devil had
already got to the Reverend, she means that he is lying. Overall, the burrs represent guilt,
connecting Dimmesdale and Hester to the scarlet letter of their

Cultural Value And Behavior Of M Hk
Cultural Value and Behaviour of CC HK
China is a huge counties with population of 1.3 billion. The culture of the North and the South are
different. Therefore, it would be unrealistic to assume that Chinese people have ( Kim, Wan, and

commonalities which including the use of the same Chinese characters, worship of the same
ancestral spirits, a pride in Sinocentrism, a heavy influence of Confucianism that stresses family
order, respect, and relationship harmony (Fan, 2000), a willingness to accept unequal power
distributions in society, high integration of groups, and a tendency to avoid uncertainty to a greater
extent than other cultural groups (Hofstede, 1980).
However, in order to identify the different between Chinese subcultures, before the launching of the
cultural studies programme in Lingnan University in 1999 there was no university in Hong Kong
that had institutionalized cultural studies as a discipline. Therefore, the scholars of the Cultural

The current economic situation is terrible. In 2011, blacks made 66 cents for every dollar earned
by whites, compared to 55 cents for every dollar earned by whites in 1963. How do Black
Americans break the poverty cycle? What caused this? One suggestion says that under resourced
schools and mass incarceration drives this cycle. Both must be eradicated, neither is adequate in
itself. Schools in poor neighborhoods most of the time are inadequate to handle the mission of
educating the youth. On the other hand, a black student in a suburban school is six times more
likely to graduate on time and be college ready than a black student in a segregated urban school.
Five times as many Whites are using drugs as African Americans, yet African Americans are sent
to prison for drug offenses at 10 times the rate of Whites. This is due to unfair drug laws, over
policing and prosecutions in black neighborhoods and overenthusiastic district attorneys. If
America can find a way to improve educational attainment for black males and eliminate disparate
rates of incarceration for drug offences would begin to break the poverty cycle. The main
characteristic of Latinos is, get in where you fit in , because they don t share a common cultural

Essay On The Stranger, By Albert Camus
In Sartre s definition of existentialism, man is born into a kind of void, a mud. He has the liberty to
remain in this mud and thus lead a passive, supine, acquiescent existence (Cuddon 317). People are
born in certain conditions in life, which they have the freedom to stay in or get out of. In order to
get out of the mud, one must take responsibility for their own fate. In The Stranger by Albert
Camus, Meursault tries to escape the mud to make the magistrate confront his meaning of
existence. Although the magistrate cannot achieve truthand justice, because he cannot be honest
with himself about the uncertainty of his own faith, irony and diction reveal that when Meursault
takes responsibility for his crime, in reality he achieves justice... Show more content on

When the magistrate questions Meursault about the killing of the Arab, he explains to
Meursault about his belief in God; he told me he believed in God, that it was his conviction that
no man was so guilty that God would not forgive him, but in order for that to happen a man must
repent (Camus 68). The magistrate thought that by believing in God, man can be purified of
their guilt. He uses the belief in God to justify or purify a criminal s crime. When criminals puts
their fate on God, they will be forgiven by God, no matter what they did. In addition, while the
magistrate continues the examination, he becomes anxious after he finds out that Meursault
does not believe in God. [The magistrate] sat down indignantly. He said it was impossible; all
men believed in God , even those who turn their backs on him. That was his belief, and if he
were ever to doubt it, his life would be meaningless (Camus 69). The magistrate believed that
everybody believed in God even those who turn their backs on him. Here he shows that makes
himself think that everybody believed in God, so he can justify his unjustified acts. He feels
uncertain about his faith but does not want to confront it, because when he does, his life would be
meaningless. He tries to attain truth and justice by making criminals confess their sins and be
purified, but since he is not even

The Abc Murders Chapter Summaries
The second book I read over the summer break was a page turning mystery novel, The ABC
Murders, written by one of my favorite authors, Agatha Christie. This book is another installment
of Christie s Detective Hercule Poirot series. In this novel, Poirot shares a letter he received from
the ABC Murderer telling him to watch out for the small town, Andover, on the upcoming 21st,
the following Friday, with his friend Captain Hastings. Poirot had feared that a murder would
occur on that day. However, when Friday finally rolls around, no murder is reported. The pair

Agatha Christie. I especially enjoyed the character, Hercule Poirot, because not only is he a great
detective and able to analyze clues and evidence, but he can also use his intelligent mind to help

Using Geometry And Algebra, By Brianna Baker
Geometry and Algebra / By: Brianna Baker Five ways to use geometry in life is by: making my
bed, telling time on a clock, wrestling, driving, and doing geometry in math class. When making a
bed you use angles by horizontally pulling the covers up on to the rectangular mattress where they
belong. Telling time uses angles by the short hand moving every hour and the long hand moving
every minute. The hands are always either in an obtuse or acute angle. Wresting uses angles and if

Angles and measurements are important for the structure of the house. Being a house keeper or
cleaner would go along with how beds should be made to look like perfection. Now teaching

Wrestling, football and basketball all use volume and angles. Wrestling teaches specific
movement and lengths of reach. The game of football takes prediction of volume and of course
you should now at least what angle or way to throw. Basketball is both, from hitting the back
board to how high to jump. Five ways to use algebra in daily life is by: going to an algebra math
class, predicting how much money you ll get, counting, saving and spending money. When you
take a class for algebra you ll count the days left to go. For example, 10=100/x. If I worked for 20

Media Violence and Violence in Society
If television causes aggression and violent behavior, assuming that the television programming
contains some violence, there should be more and more violent crime after television is available
(Freedman). Many suggest the violence in media is causing violence in society but then how is it
that violent crimes are actually decreasing in the United States. The violencethat is occurring is
actually due from the mentally ill, poor parenting, and the location of where one lives in society.
Violence has actually decreased over the decades even though media has more violence than
ever before. According to a report done by Lawrence W Reed with the Mackinac Center for
Public Policy, by the age of 18 an American child will have seen 16,000 simulated murders and
200,000 acts of violence. These are astounding figures yet crime has hit a nine year low (Frieden).
Because of these statistics media is not causing more crime in America. The actual correlation
between being exposed to media violence and actually acting violently are not conclusive.
According to Jonathan L. Freedman of the University of Toronto, The Surgeon General s Report
on Youth Violence concluded that exposure to television violence causes a short term increase in
aggression, but when on to say that television violence has little or no role in causing real violence.
Again this is showing that there might be a little aggressive behavior caused by media violence but
the long term effects are not what is causing

Themes Explored in Purple Hibiscus
1) Five major issues explored in purple hibiscus are; domestic violence, oppression, religion,
education and love.
2a) Adichie uses a narrative point of view to explore the theme of domestic violence. The book is
narrated in the first person by a 15 year old who is directly affected by domestic violence. Because
of her young age she is quiet honest and this allows her to paint a great picture to the audience of
the brutal abuse that Eugene bestows upon his family. This is as a result of her sensitive, intelligent
and observant nature.

Kambili sees the sips of scorching tea from her father as a representation of his love, this love is
very painful. Amadi s love on the other hand is not the painful kind of love but instead a joyous one.
4a) Adichie uses setting to explore domestic violence. Domestic violence is present in the Achike
household. This setting is the only setting in the entire book where domestic violence is present.
Adichie uses a variety of things and rooms within this setting to bring out domestic violence some
examples are the figurines, Eugene and Beatrice s room and the bathroom.
4b) the entire setting of Nigeria brings out the theme of oppression especially political
oppression. All of Nigeria is suffering as a result of the political oppression, including Abba
Town, Enugu and Ifeoma s village. The road setting also shows political oppression, especially
when persons are stopped and searched by the military for no good reason.
4c) Religion is explored through setting, Adichie uses Aunty Ifeoma s home to teach Kambili things
about religion different that she had been taught be her father. It was in Aunty Ifeoma s house that
Kambili understood her grandfather s traditionalist religion and was able to make a link between
Catholicism and Traditionalist.
4d) A setting used to explore education is Aunty Ifeoma s home. Aunty Ifeoma in her home speaks
of the many young girls in the school who get married then allow their husbands to own them and
their degrees.

Credibility Was A Strength For Me

information or argument you are presenting (250). I felt I did a good job in the way I explained
my experience in the music industry and how I ve been successful. I didn t just rush into my main

The book explains, a well designed conclusion can elevate a presentation from average to excellent,
whereas a poor conclusion can make an otherwise excellent presentation fall flat (279) . This is
something I need to work on because I feel I did great explaining my main points but from
watching the video and putting myself in the perspective of the audience I realized my ending
was very weak. I was to focused on memorizing the main points and details that I forgot about my
conclusion. The books makes great points that in order to allow the audience to know when a
conclusion is coming phrases like In conclusion , In summary , As I close , or I would like to

research to support my ideas. In regards to how to gather a speech the book says the research
you need in order to develop and support your presentation can and should come from a variety
of sources. Depending on the topic, you must use internal sources, external sources, or a
combination of two (272) From watching the video I felt I used to many internal sources and
not enough external sources. I was disappointed because I had many sources at hand but I didn t
mention them as much as I would have liked because I was so worried about forgetting my body

Abstract Human population over the past decades, have doubled, tripled and grown rapidly, thereby

The theory has explained human population evolution relatively well in Europe and other highly
developed countries. Many developing countries have moved into stage 3. The major exceptions
are poor countries, mainly in sub Saharan Africa (Nigeria, Benin, Mali, Niger amongst others) and
some Middle Eastern[ 9] countries, which are poor or affected by government policy or civil strife,
notably Pakistan[ 10], Palestinian Territories[ 11], Yemen[ 12] and Afghanistan[ 13].

Origins of Demographic Transition Theory
The idea of DTT was first advanced by Warren Thompson[ 15] in 1929. He divided the world into
three major groups:
В·Countries with rapidly declining birth and death rates, with fertility declining more rapidly than
mortality, resulting in a declining growth rate (Northern[ 16] and Western Europe[ 17], North
America[ 18] and Australasia[ 19])
В·Countries with declining birth and death rates in certain socio economic strata, with the rate of
decline of the death rate higher than the decline in the birth rate (Central and Southern Europe)
В·Countries with high birth rates but declining death rates (rest of the world)
Frank W. Notestein[ 20] developed this theory in 1945 and suggested that there was a relationship
between population change and industrial development. He suggested that with time, countries go

The Battle Against Grendel s Mother
Beowulf sets his sights towards Grendel s mother shortly after the second attack on Heorot.
Grendel s mother is similarly linked to Cain just as her son was. According to the selection, it is
said that after Cain was cast away by God, his mark of murder followed him. Everywhere Cain
walked, monsters and shadows arose from the ground in which Grendel s mother is a result of. It is
interesting to note that the story of Beowulfeffortlessly contorted the Christian story of Cain by
adding Pagan influences such as monsters. Nonetheless, like previous battles, the fight against
Grendel s mother was a result of vengeance. Grendel s mother lived miserably in dark, monster
infested waters, but caused no harm until the death of her son whom she was obligated to avenge.
Soon after her introduction into the story, the reader is informed that she injured many, but it was
the murder of the king s closest advisor that was most troubling . As one can imagine vengeance is
necessary to bring justice to the situation even though the Pagan principle of vengeance defies
Christian ideals. The characters in the story understand that this fiend is no weak one, and they
offer Beowulf gear in preparation for the battle. As Beowulf prepares to avenge the death of the
king s advisor, he is given Hrunting, a special sword. This once again introduces another Pagan
element. As the aforementioned, Paganism strongly believed in magical entities; special swords are
no exception. Hrunting was

Packing The Endocnabinoid System
The overall goal of my research is to better understand the roles that fatty acid binding proteins
(FABPs), specifically epidermal FABP (FAPB5) and brain FABP (FABP7), play within regulating
the endocannabinoid system and to understand the role of FABP in addiction. The endocannabinoid
system is linked with the rewarding effects of abused drugs. Central to the endocannabinoid system
is the cannabinoid type 1 receptor (CB1R), which is expressed ubiquitously throughout the brain.
Within the brain reward circuit, activation of CB1Rs regulates the strength and plasticity of
glutamate and GABA synapses. Specifically, dopaminergic projections from the ventral tegmental
area (VTA) to the nucleus accumbens (NAc) plays a critical role in reward... Show more content on

Hill and colleagues (20??) have demonstrated that endocannabinoids are important to regulating the
activation and fast feedback mechanism of the HPA axis in the basolateral amygdala. Therefore
corticosterone was also examined by sandwich enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA),
under both basal conditions and while the animal was stressed. The results of the study were unlike
FAAH inhibition. Inhibition of FABP5 and 7 decreased both the preference and consumption of
ethanol in mice. Furthermore, the inhibition of FABP5 and 7 increase the corticosterone response.
These results suggest that the inhibition of FABP5 and 7 may be hindering AEA ability to interact
with CB1Rs, despite the elevated levels of the neurotransmitter. Following this initial study, our
laboratory examined consumption behavior in mice that have a genetic knockout of the FABP5
gene. Similarly, both male and females underwent a limited access two bottle choice paradigm. The
genetically knocked out (KO) animals were compared to wildtype. As originally hypothesized, the
genetically modified animals consumed significantly more ethanol compared to wildtype animals.
Conversely, following 30 minutes restrain stress, the FABP5 KO animals had a reduced
corticosterone response compare to the wildtype animals. These results contradicted our previous
study, using the pharmacological inhibition of

To receive recognition, you must find a reasonable answer that can prove that the impossible can
be done. Before the heart surgery, it was the rule of law that you can not touch the heart since it

My Experience At The School Nurse

forming fresh bruises. At first the pain was tolerable, but any minor twist or turn affected the
pain level immensely. Unprepared for the new aching in my wrist, immediate shouts of agony
followed. My teacher, Mrs. Stephenson, immediately asked, What s wrong? Looking up, my face

Patients should also be engaged in exercises in order to reduce weight. Overweight and obese
patients pose a huge problem in management of bed sores. They are rigid, immobile and very
inactive. The suggested exercises are advised to be considered for reduction of weight, increasing
flexibility of joints, promote blood flow as well as strengthening of muscles and bones. These
exercises should be supplemented with proper feeding, repositioning as well as other methods used

Repositioning
Repositioning of patients prone to pressure sores refers to turning these patients in order to
promote aeration and prevent excessive pressure being exerted on one body part for a long time.
Research has demonstrated that turning of these patients every 4 hours with foam mattresses
developed from visco elastic polyurethane has superiority in outcome compared with lack of
turning of these patients. The same research indicated that turning these patients every 4 hours has
better outcome in reducing risk of grade 1 and grade 2 bed sores than turning them once daily on
the same foam mattresses. This 4 hour turning schedule also has been shown to have little
significant results compared a 2 hour turning schedule on the foam mattresses made of visco elastic
polyurethane (Vanderwee, Grypdonck, De, Defloor, 2007). Nursing interventions in repositioning
of these bedridden patients include occasional turning of these patients from one side to the next.

Monroe Doctrine Effects
Through the Monroe Doctrine and its effect on US foreign policy, it led to several corollaries by
future presidents that expanded its influence throughout the world. The most notable corollary
was put in place by Theodore Roosevelt in the early 20th century. Since European countries were
owed money by many Latin American countries, Roosevelt felt that the US had a moral mandate
to enforce proper behavior among the nations of Latin America (Roosevelt Corollary to the
Monroe Doctrine). This allowed for Roosevelt to not only force the countries to repay their debts
but also to send in American troops to be sure his policies were implemented and the European
nations stayed out of the territories. Roosevelt s Corollary allowed the US to use military force to
restore internal stability to nations in the region of the Western Hemisphere (Milestones: 1899
1913: Roosevelt...1904). The use of US military presence in these Latin American... Show more

Its beginnings were rooted in isolationist ideas with the US wanting to eliminate Europe s
intervention and expansion in the US and the Latin American countries in the Western Hemisphere
as well as wanting to keep out of European wars. We then see how future presidents, such as
Theodore Roosevelt, used the doctrine to step into many Latin American countries to prevent
conflicts with Europe and to further America s influence and power in the region. Also, we see
how the struggles in Europe and the prospect of war enticed presidents such as Truman to
undermine the doctrine and step into European wars and affairs that the doctrine clearly opposed.
Overall, the Monroe Doctrine was an important part of US history which helped to shape our

Woodrow Wilson and the Leage of Nations
We cannot be separated in interest or divided in purpose, declared President Woodrow Wilson,
We (must) stand together until the end (Wilson 2). These powerful proclamations were voiced by
Wilson in one of his most famous addresses, the Fourteen Points on January 8, 1918. As the world
was in the midst of the Great War, violence, starvation, and the beginnings of communism plagued
Europe. The question that kept lingering in the minds of everyone affected was what was to come
in the future. President Wilson wanted to offer relief to the crumbling world. He realized that if
war was to end, and lasting peace was to work, the victors must swallow their pride and offer relief
to the vanquished (Lodge 1). In an effort to get this notion going, he outlined a plan that sought to
make the world fit and safe to live in (Lodge 1). It included everything from freedom of the seas to
creating an international organization that would help mediate any upcoming disputes between
member nations. Wilson presented his innovative formula with a confident, high moral tone to his
European counterparts using logical and ethical appeal, as well as repetition, to accentuate a thesis
that carried a theme of freedom and democracy throughout. In the long run, he could not convince
his opposition entirely, however, his work established a foundation for today s system of peaceful
negotiating.
When World War Ibegan in 1914, the majority of the United States wanted to remain isolated.

King Leopold II and the Congo Free State
King Leopold II of Belgium (1835 1909) was the reigning king of Belgium from 1865 until his
death in 1909. He managed the throne after the death of his father, Leopold I. He was born
under the original name of Louis Philippe Marie Victor in Brussels. He joined the Belgium
armed forces at a relatively early age and, in 1853, he took as his wife the Archduke of Austria s
daughter, Maria Henrietta. He became widely noted as a philanthropist, his work earning him
worldwide fame. Upon his death, Leopold s nephew, Albert I, succeeded him to the throneof

He had his own piece of that magnificent African cake. The newly named Congo Free State was
handed over to Leopold essentially as his personal country. With such authority, he easily exploited
the natives and their abundance of natural resources.
The presence of ivory, rubber, copper, and diamonds in the Congo only whetted Leopold s appetite
for wealth. He sent Sir Stanley deeper and deeper into the unexplored jungles in search of
profitable resources. However, his treatment of the native population was not quite in line with his
philanthropic reputation. He extorted the indigenous peoples with often called barbaric methods.
Leopold strove to further develop the Congo nation by establishing an exportation network which
included the building of river ports and roads into the interior of the nation. The expeditions proved
to be quite successful for the Belgian king. Some figures report an income of approximately
#8356;30,000 per year earned through his ventures in the Congo.
However, the rest of Europe began to take notice of the inhumane methods utilized by Leopold
after his African state grew larger. In addition, the financial returns started to wane after the initial
stages of colonization. By 1908, the Congo project had overstretched its financial resources and
Leopold was not able to manage it independently. He began to sell parts of the state like stock in a
corporation. This

Analysis Of Gorman Beauchamp s Article, Technology
In Gorman Beauchamp s article, Technology in the Dystopian Novel, he writes: collectivism and
technology, that is, are mutually exclusive (56). Collectivism is defined as: the practice or
principle of giving a group priority over each individual in it. This idea is incredibly relevant in
today s society. Our world, because of modern technology, has become incredibly individualistic.
Cell phones, personal computers, tablets, and other personal technological devices have all been
created with the intent to improve communication and connecting individuals in a much easier
fashion. Devices are customized to the individual making it more in sync with the individual. While
these devices have contributed overall in creating a more globalized world, individual cultures,
especially in the United States, no longer have the group priority Beauchamp was referring to. This
becomes extremely apparent in the youth of today s societies. Distractions from cell phones
continually disrupt the cohesion in the classroom, playground, and in the homes. Because of the
frequency of use on these personal devices, interpersonal communication is greatly hindered.
Interpersonal skills are important for a culture to thrive and to be successful. It is unknown what
kind of effects technology will have in the long run towards face to face communications and
interpersonal relationships. The sciencefiction book series, Divergent, has an interesting solution for
what happens when societies let technology

An Overview of Bilingual Education Essay
Overview of Bilingual Education
Is a second language a necessity in our world today? Should parents push for their child to learn
two languages in elementary school? If we live in multicultural neighborhoods, trade with the
global marketplace, and want to use all technology resources available, it is necessary to know two
languages. Multilingual people and communities seem to have an edge over monolingual
competition. This provides people of all ages an incentive to learn a second language (Genesee,
1998). In this research paper English and Spanish will be the languages referred to for bilingual
education, although others are offered. The purpose of this paper is to compare the benefits and
pitfalls of language immersion programs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s a plus. Learning the first language at the same time as learning English is having a positive
effect on both languages. At home the parents feel that they can communicate with their children,
(p. 664) says a Khmer speaking teacher in Australia (Barrot Pugh Rohl, 2001). Khmer is spoken in
all Australian homes and is practically required for children to learn. This program is not only for
increasing cognitive skills, but also for students to communicate fully in their community and
within their families. One in every four children in Australia speaks a language other than English.
Australian children are encouraged and greatly supported by the community to learn a second
language, which is why these numbers are so high. If the United States had the same motivation for
their children, it would produce many more bilingual children. All children in the Khmer English
program show parallel development in the two languages. Many kids accomplish this by using
information from one language to assist the development of the other language. Learning Khmer
gives the children a sense of identity in their home and culture (Barratt Pugh Rohl, 2001). This is a
good example of a community using all its available resources, and hopefully Americans will learn
from their enthusiasm.

There are many factors that contribute to showing that Iceland is a developed country. Everything
must be taken into account when deciding whether or not Iceland is a developed country due to the
fact that just one set of information does not say everything. Because this is the case one must

After blindfolding a friend that is seated on the chair with his or her legs positioned one over the
other, sound the buzzer before immediately tapping your friend just below his or her knee with
the clinical hammer. Wait for 5 seconds before repeating this procedure for 20 to 30 times,
making sure in each trial that the buzzer is sounded immediately before the tapping of your
friend s knee. After numerous pairings, it is theoretically possible to observe a reflexive knee
jerk even without tapping your friend s knee, once the buzzer sounds. In this classical
conditioning experiment, the tapping of the person s knee with a clinical hammer is the UCS, as
it is a naturally occurring stimulus that elicits the UCR, which in this case is the reflexive knee
jerk action. The distinctive sound given out by the buzzer was initially the NS, but eventually
became the CS, after 20 to 30 pairings with the UCS within close intervals of 5 seconds during
the experiment. It has become a stimulus that is subsequently capable of eliciting a learned reflex
response on its own (CR) which was originally an UCR, because it has been paired with the
original UCS. This can be seen from the results shown by the classical conditioning experiment
conducted above. After the numerous pairings between the sound given out by the buzzer (NS) and
the tapping of the knee using a clinical

The Importance Of An Important Role Within Society
Archivists play an important role within society. Historically, archives were centered on the
preservation of materials (Vassilakaki Moniarou Papaconstantinou, (2017). As the centuries passed,
the role of the archivist expanded the schooling necessary to work as an archivist became more
complex, and the field of archival sciencedeveloped into what it is today. In the scope of library
professions, the number of archivists is still quite small. As of April 2015, there were
approximately 166,200 librarians working in the United States, as of that May, only 5,460 of these
were archivists (Eastwood, 2017). This indicates that the profession is still developing. According to

This is why there is no clear education path. Usually, a bachelor s degree in the liberal arts is
pursued; however, there is no specific major for the career. It is further recommended to take any
pre LIS or archival courses offered during ones undergraduate education (Vault, 2017). Having
completed a bachelor s degree, one could begin working in the field, however, they would be
severely lacking in the required knowledge to perform well as an archivist. It is most typical to
further pursue a Master s degree in History, Library Science, Political Science, or Public
Administration. In the last decade, it has become common to see both Computer Science and
Information Systems as Masters Degrees (OOH, 2015; Anderson, 2010, 756). As noted by
Eastwood (2017), a master s program specifically dedicated to Archival Science does not exist in
the United States; however, multiple educators in the field seek to have one established (78).
Though there are many options for ones higher education degree, individuals seeking a career in
archives typically pursue a degree in History or LIS because of the significant overlap between
the degree and the professional competencies (Shepherd, 2010, 187). Furthermore, depending on
the specific type of archives one intends to work in, it may be necessary to pursue a dual masters.
For example, if one intends to work in the archives at a historical society, it is necessary to have a

Were these subjects compensated to participate? It does not touch on real hard core aggressionor
violence. The procedure was low budget but adequate for the simplicity of this specific research.
The saliva test is a very accurate test for testosterone levels. The other way to check levels is to
draw blood and that can be expensive and time consuming.
If given adequate funds to perform research in this area, I would like to expand upon this
research. I would use more of the population, older and younger men. I would pull from prisoners
and those known to have aggression, anger issues and those known not to have issues. I would
expand the independent variables to include using violent and non violent video games, watching
violent and non violent movie clips, handling machine guns, unloaded of course, a baseball bat or
maybe a machete. Some un inhibiting items such as a stuffed animal, a Bible, or interacting with
a child with a game. The saliva tests before and after the interactions are adequate and reliable. I
would have the subjects also undergo a baseline blood pressure and heart rate check before and
repeat that after the interaction. Also, answer a few questions before and after and perform a
physical aggression test to determine their aggression levels.
I think it would be beneficial to test these men alone as well as in a group with other men and then
with a woman as well,

The Main Theme of Tennyson s The Charge of the Light...
The Main Theme of Tennyson s The Charge of the Light Brigade
From the first few lines of The Charge of the Light Brigade, Tennyson plunges you into the
poem, creating an awesome, in depth feeling of reality. His words are so powerful, that they
make you feel as if you are one of the Light Brigade. With this war language he uses he gives the
reader a feeling of heroism and bravery, an inexorable feeling.
Charge for the guns! Into the valley of death rode the six hundred. This illustrates the great irony or
war, as they are marching into the valley on a misinterpreted command. The actual command that
was given was to ret rite from the valley and not to go into it.
Forward the Light ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In verse three it exclaims that there was a;
Cannon to the right of them,
Cannon to the left of them
Cannon in front of them.
This is an audio image of bombardment, which almost allows you to hear the cannons being set off.
This draws the reader in, making them think as if they were there.
Into the jaws of Death, into the mouth of hell . In this line I have come across personification, as
the valley has been brought to life by being given human attributes. This highlights the horror,
torture and suffering the soldiers uncovered and shows the wicked darkness of war.
In verse four there is a dramatic pause, All the world wondered. This line suggests that the whole
world knew of their bravery and that they would be always remembered as heroes of their era.
Reeled from the sabre stroke, in this short line you can nearly hear the sabres slashing through the
air violently.
Shattered and sundered tells us that they were beaten, but beaten as warriors of war.
Then they rode back, but not, Not the six hundred . This statement is very emphatic and stark,
which makes the reader dwell on their unfortunate defeat.
In the next verse Tennyson uses repetition of the cannons this brings them to life and makes the
reader reflect back on the previous verse in which

Imperialism In Kenya
Kenya is a nation in Africa that was created by the British. The effects of the colonial era are
prevalent as they have changed in many aspects. Kenya was apart of the British Commonwealth in
Africa. As missionaries and settlers came to Kenya after the Berlin Conference which divided
Africa into colonies without their consent, they became a British controlled colony. Britain already
had colonies in India, Canada, and Australia; but wanted the rich natural resources of Africa. The
occupation of Britain in Kenyaaffected the country in many aspects but still withheld tradition.
British colonialism affected the nation of Kenya in an upsurge in population, a corrupt restrictive
government, and a drastic change in culture and beliefs. Kenya... Show more content on

The native people were confused on the input of British government causing them to join the
British Commonwealth. The nation hadn t any say in the actions of the government because the
native people were not allowed in the government: This we know. But in spite of this, what I have
told you is a fact. You have now a king a good and great king who loves his people, and you are
among his people. In the town called Nairobi is a council or government that acts as a king. And
his laws are your laws (Document D). The force of the government grew so that the lower end of
the social ranking system couldn t fix their corrupt government. An unfixable government came up
with a solution. In 1923 when the Devonshire Declaration was made, it stated the native peoples
of Africa were the priority opinion over Europeans, native councils were created so that they could

government took a turn into becoming an independent nation. The authority of the citizens grew
and held elections for a new president under the people of Kenya instead of the British. The
KANU political party had ended the colonial era: Jomo Kenyatta s party, the Kenyan African
National Union (KANU), won with the slogan Uhra na Kenyatta Independence with Kenyatta and
against the protests of colonialists, Kenyatta was released from jail. Jomo Kenyatta was elected

Royal Stuart Family Influence On Macbeth
William Shakespeare s The Tragedy of Macbeth was heavily influenced through its setting,
characters, and subject matter by the Royal Stuart Family, which became the first dynasty to rule
both Scotland and England. Many of the names used in this play are actually referencing real
members of the Stuart family who ruled at one point and time. The name Macbethis actually
borrowed from a former king in the Stuart Family named Macbeth, who took over the throne after
coincidently killing his cousin, that happened to be the King, and also happened to be named
Duncan. Shakespeare may have taken the names from history, but what transpired in the play
between the characters of Macbeth and Duncan, along with many others, is not historically correct.

The mean score of my test is 3.86.
Though the above show results in various dimensions of a personality, they are never 100%
reliable. Certain choices in a question are obvious about checking the right answer but not the
honest one. Many organizations carry out tests like this before recruiting a person, this can invite
the wrong person if the company only relies on this test for recruitment. Susan (2000) suggest that
there is a negativity involved during this test, it can make a person perform less due to the stress
levels of ticking the right choice (Susan J., 2000). In other words, though anyone doesn t copy, still
it s a form of cheating to achieve the place in a company.
According to the results above I discover that in the MBTI, I have scored less in extroversion

The Indian Ocean Trade
Between 650 C.E. and 1450 C.E., trade and interaction in the Indian Ocean was the largest in the
world. Although the Indian Ocean trade network was small when it first began, the network was
able to expand and led to the inclusion of Europe while the exchange of ideas, goods and religion
remained constant. During this time period, the construction of large and powerful states provided
security for merchants and travelers, which helped long distance commerce. The golden ages of
numerous powerful states also led to the flourishing of ideas.
At the beginning of the time period, Malay sailors learn how to use the winds from monsoons to
sail to China and India. This allowed for the exchange of knowledge and allowed the various
groups of people to make connections. The Malay sailors desired the cotton and sugar from India
and also craved the silk from China, and spices such as cinnamon, pepper, cloves, nutmeg and mace
from the East Indies. This trade network was small when it was first established.
As time progresses, changes within the Indian Ocean region occur. New states were created such as
Srivijaya and the Swahili City States. Trade routes expand to further distances. Connections are
made to the Trans Saharan trade in Africa. The East African Swahili city states also become
incorporated into this trade network. Greater inclusion of China, the Tang and Song dynasties, adds
to the extensive trade network. Controlling empires also fluctuate throughout the time period.

Perhaps the greatest failure to fully grasp the true intentions of Hitler s regime was the signing of

Hitler s rise to power and Germanys remilitarization. Hitler moved aggressively to jumpstart a
foundering German economy and to jettison the constraints that had been imposed on the German

Review Of Stephenie Meyer s Twilight
Lena Andersson
ENG104
Research Paper
Twilight by Stephenie Meyer is a romantic book about two teenagers, a girl named Bella and a
vampire named Edward. The two of them fall in love, and Bella is put in danger by a different
group of vampires. There have been several different types of criticism towards this book and
every criticism is different ; it includes being one hundred percent justifiable to do absolutely
anything for the one you love. Others have also said that it was not intended to relate to teen girls,
but it actually ended up doing just that. Also, some critics have compared Twilightto Harry Potter
in the sense that both of the stories lie in a dream (Bethune). Brian Bethune wrote a criticism called
Love at First Bite which at first compares Stephenie Meyer s Twilightto J.K. Rowlings Harry
Potter. There are various reasons why Bethune believes that Twilight is similar to Harry Potter.
He believes that Meyer s and Rowling s stories lie in a dream (Bethune). This is easy to agree
with because Twilight is based on a vampire friendly romance. This is obviously unrealistic and
would never happen in real life. In Harry Potter, the story is based on a warlock who fights off
all different kinds of magical and mythical creatures. Evidently, it is easy to figure out that this
story also lies in a dream. Bethune starts to talk about religion which is based on Stephenie Meyer
s real life and how her religion is somewhat duplicated in her Twilight

  • 2. Producing the First Atomic Bomb Introduction Uranium is a dense radioactive metal that is used in nuclear reactors. It is found in nature and has two large isotopes, U 235 and U 238. The energy that is produced in nuclear reactors is from the splitting or fission of the U 235 atoms. It releases energy in most cases in the form of heat; U 235 is the main splitting isotope of uranium. Uranium enriched is required to be in light water reactors, which allows controlled nuclear reaction. Processes for Uranium Enrichment When producing the first atomic bomb, scientists from the Manhattan Project thought about multiple processes for uranium enrichment, now we have a few that we use which is Gaseous Diffusion also known as Effusion, Gas Centrifuge, and Laser separation. Gaseous diffusion is a technology that produces enriched uranium by forcing uranium hexafluoride through pipelines and then pumped through filters called barriers. This makes it where there is a slight separation between molecules, which contain uranium 235, and uranium 238. There are hundreds of barriers because one barrier isn t enough to make uranium hexafluoride gas contain enough U238 that can be used in reactors. We only have on plant left and it is located in Paducah, Kentucky. The Gas Centrifuge was made to replace Gaseous Diffusion, it is a device that performs isotope separation of gases and it s the preferred way because it takes less time, and takes less energy. We have these plants in New Mexico, Idaho and Ohio. Laser separation is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first project entitled Contemporary City is for a city of 3 million inhabitants. The city comprised a group of skyscrapers cross shaped steel frames and glass walls giants, housing offices and homes for the rich, each placed in rectangular green areas. Le Corbusier separates the pedestrian access routes for cars, the unconditional supporter of cars as a means of transport. The workers lived in the suburbs in zigzag blocks. The next project, Radiant City is built along the same principles, only blocks are no longer built on social criteria, but on the number of family members. Le Corbusier s early work was related to nature, but as his ideas progressed, he developed the Maison Domino, a basic building concept for mass production with free standing pillars and rigid floors. • 4. Barry Minkow Barry Minkow Misrepresentation and Ponzi in 1987 Establishment of ZZZZ Best Company When he was a sophomore in high school, Barry Minkow founded a carpet cleaning company ZZZZ Best Company in his parents garage. At that time, the carpet cleaning industry has few entry barriers and all Minkow needed was a small amount of start up capital. However, he soon found out that his firm was actually tough to survive in the industry as the ease of entry means fierce competition. The young man encountered a series of trouble: bad checks, complaints from customers, urge for payment from suppliers and finally the shortage of working capital. Not surprisingly, the bank refused to loan money to his low profit margin company. Minkow would like to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Minkow became a billionaire and an American success story. By February 1987, on paper, the company which Minkow claimed had about 1,300 employees in some two dozen offices was worth nearly 300 million dollars. Minkow s personal worth reportedly topped $100 million. He began to live a luxury life including driving a red Ferrari with a ZZZZ BEST license plate and appearing on Oprah. Minkow s business had been clearly a Ponzi scheme. He promised investors highly returns on the insurance restorations business, but in reality, investors were being repaid with money from new investors. Some of the loans were negotiated at outrageous rates of interest so that they were obtained fast enough to pay off earlier loans. ZZZZ Best did operate its carpet cleaning business which differed itself from a typical Ponzi and the carpet cleaning division won high marks for its quality.iii However, its insurance restoration division was totally a phony department and little real business existed. Fooling the auditors As the company went public, ZZZZ Best was subjected to the audit of its financial statement. George Greenspan, the performer of the audit, reviewed the copies of the insurance restoration jobs and then confirmed its existence in the report to SEC. He also calculated various kinds of ratios of the company and concluded that they were in line with the industry ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These are applicable to broad and focused discussion of the nursing profession. Pavalko s statement greatly defines the major areas of the nursing profession (Zerwekh, Garneau, 2013). Furthermore, it also says something about the specialties that are present in the current practice of nursing. Pavalko s eight dimensions can be used by nursing students to further explore the limitless possibilities that the nursing profession can offer. Educators can also broaden existing knowledge in order to fit the needs of today s students. In actuality, Pavalko s eight dimensions hits every corner of the nursing profession however, one of Pavalko s eight dimensions is greatly applicable to the nursing profession. The relationship between TFP and stock prices has been observed by analysts for centuries and most of their results conclude that a growth in the stock prices generates a growth in productivity on the long term. So the shocks that have an impact on the stock prices and stimulate companies to invest in new technologies affect productivity on the long term because it usually takes time for the new technologies to be implemented and generate productivity (Comin et al. 2016). The relationship between stock prices and total factor productivity is explored by plotting the productivity over the last 5 years and the evolution of the average annual growth rate of the Dubai Financial Market (DFM) index. The evolution of the two variables shows there is a weak negative relationship on the short term between them so, we can say that the productivity numbers are not consistent with the stock prices. • 7. Anti Transcendentalism In The Scarlet Letter The Scarlet Letter, written by Nathaniel Hawthorne in the 1800s, takes place in a New England Puritan society in the 1600s. Hawthorne was an anti transcendentalist, the great nephew of John Hathorne, who believed that all humans have an innate darkness within them. Hathorne was the only judge who did not apologize for the Salem Witch Trials. The basis of anti transcendentalism also included that the forest/nature is evil because that is where the devil lives, and that society was good because it kept humans from giving in to their evil natures. Hawthorne uses symbolism, a literary device that uses objects and people to stand for something outside themselves, throughout the book to depict and explain many events. Soon, they were talking about what happens to one s guilt when they die. For example, if weeds grow on a grave, is it the guilt that has sprung up from the sinful heart? They also debated on reasons why a man might hide his guilt, all hypothetical of course. The two men, hearing a child s laughter, stopped their conversation to see who it was. Pearl and Hester were in the graveyard below. Pearl picked a handful of burrs, which stand for guilt that connects Hester to Dimmesdale. Hawthorne explains, ... she arranged them along the lines of the scarlet letter that decorated the maternal bosom... with a bright, but naughty smile of mirth and intelligence, she threw one of the prickly burrs at the Reverend Mr. Dimmesdale (Hawthorne 122). Through Pearl s act of sticking the burrs on her mother s scarlet letter and throwing one at Dimmesdale, she is connecting him to the letter, essentially the same sin as Hester s. The scarlet letter is the sin, and the burrs are the guilt tying Hester and Dimmesdale to one sin. Right after Pearl threw the burr, Dimmesdale ducked away. Hawthorne writes, The sensitive clergyman shrunk, with nervous dread, from the light missile. Detecting his emotion, Pearl clapped her little hands in the most extravagant ecstacy... old Black Man will catch you! He hath got hold of the minister already (Hawthorne 122). Dimmesdale had a chance to accept and admit his guilt, but he shied away. Then, when Pearl says the devil had already got to the Reverend, she means that he is lying. One suggestion says that under resourced schools and mass incarceration drives this cycle. Both must be eradicated, neither is adequate in itself. Schools in poor neighborhoods most of the time are inadequate to handle the mission of educating the youth. On the other hand, a black student in a suburban school is six times more likely to graduate on time and be college ready than a black student in a segregated urban school. Five times as many Whites are using drugs as African Americans, yet African Americans are sent to prison for drug offenses at 10 times the rate of Whites. • 11. Essay On The Stranger, By Albert Camus In Sartre s definition of existentialism, man is born into a kind of void, a mud. He has the liberty to remain in this mud and thus lead a passive, supine, acquiescent existence (Cuddon 317). People are born in certain conditions in life, which they have the freedom to stay in or get out of. In order to get out of the mud, one must take responsibility for their own fate. In The Stranger by Albert Camus, Meursault tries to escape the mud to make the magistrate confront his meaning of existence. Although the magistrate cannot achieve truthand justice, because he cannot be honest with himself about the uncertainty of his own faith, irony and diction reveal that when Meursault takes responsibility for his crime, in reality he achieves justice... When the magistrate questions Meursault about the killing of the Arab, he explains to Meursault about his belief in God; he told me he believed in God, that it was his conviction that no man was so guilty that God would not forgive him, but in order for that to happen a man must repent (Camus 68). The magistrate thought that by believing in God, man can be purified of their guilt. He uses the belief in God to justify or purify a criminal s crime. When criminals puts their fate on God, they will be forgiven by God, no matter what they did. In addition, while the magistrate continues the examination, he becomes anxious after he finds out that Meursault does not believe in God. [The magistrate] sat down indignantly. He said it was impossible; all men believed in God , even those who turn their backs on him. That was his belief, and if he were ever to doubt it, his life would be meaningless (Camus 69). The magistrate believed that everybody believed in God even those who turn their backs on him. Here he shows that makes himself think that everybody believed in God, so he can justify his unjustified acts. He feels uncertain about his faith but does not want to confront it, because when he does, his life would be meaningless. • 15. Media Violence and Violence in Society If television causes aggression and violent behavior, assuming that the television programming contains some violence, there should be more and more violent crime after television is available (Freedman). Many suggest the violence in media is causing violence in society but then how is it that violent crimes are actually decreasing in the United States. The violencethat is occurring is actually due from the mentally ill, poor parenting, and the location of where one lives in society. Violence has actually decreased over the decades even though media has more violence than ever before. According to a report done by Lawrence W Reed with the Mackinac Center for Public Policy, by the age of 18 an American child will have seen 16,000 simulated murders and 200,000 acts of violence. These are astounding figures yet crime has hit a nine year low (Frieden). Because of these statistics media is not causing more crime in America. The actual correlation between being exposed to media violence and actually acting violently are not conclusive. According to Jonathan L. Freedman of the University of Toronto, The Surgeon General s Report on Youth Violence concluded that exposure to television violence causes a short term increase in aggression, but when on to say that television violence has little or no role in causing real violence. Again this is showing that there might be a little aggressive behavior caused by media violence but the long term effects are not what is causing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Grendel s mother is similarly linked to Cain just as her son was. According to the selection, it is said that after Cain was cast away by God, his mark of murder followed him. Everywhere Cain walked, monsters and shadows arose from the ground in which Grendel s mother is a result of. It is interesting to note that the story of Beowulfeffortlessly contorted the Christian story of Cain by adding Pagan influences such as monsters. Nonetheless, like previous battles, the fight against Grendel s mother was a result of vengeance. Grendel s mother lived miserably in dark, monster infested waters, but caused no harm until the death of her son whom she was obligated to avenge. Soon after her introduction into the story, the reader is informed that she injured many, but it was the murder of the king s closest advisor that was most troubling . As one can imagine vengeance is necessary to bring justice to the situation even though the Pagan principle of vengeance defies Christian ideals. The characters in the story understand that this fiend is no weak one, and they offer Beowulf gear in preparation for the battle. The endocannabinoid system is linked with the rewarding effects of abused drugs. Central to the endocannabinoid system is the cannabinoid type 1 receptor (CB1R), which is expressed ubiquitously throughout the brain. As the world was in the midst of the Great War, violence, starvation, and the beginnings of communism plagued Europe. The question that kept lingering in the minds of everyone affected was what was to come in the future. President Wilson wanted to offer relief to the crumbling world. He realized that if war was to end, and lasting peace was to work, the victors must swallow their pride and offer relief to the vanquished (Lodge 1). In an effort to get this notion going, he outlined a plan that sought to make the world fit and safe to live in (Lodge 1). It included everything from freedom of the seas to creating an international organization that would help mediate any upcoming disputes between member nations. Wilson presented his innovative formula with a confident, high moral tone to his European counterparts using logical and ethical appeal, as well as repetition, to accentuate a thesis that carried a theme of freedom and democracy throughout. Analysis Of Gorman Beauchamp s Article, Technology In Gorman Beauchamp s article, Technology in the Dystopian Novel, he writes: collectivism and technology, that is, are mutually exclusive (56). Collectivism is defined as: the practice or principle of giving a group priority over each individual in it. This idea is incredibly relevant in today s society. Our world, because of modern technology, has become incredibly individualistic. Cell phones, personal computers, tablets, and other personal technological devices have all been created with the intent to improve communication and connecting individuals in a much easier fashion. Devices are customized to the individual making it more in sync with the individual. While these devices have contributed overall in creating a more globalized world, individual cultures, especially in the United States, no longer have the group priority Beauchamp was referring to. This becomes extremely apparent in the youth of today s societies. Distractions from cell phones continually disrupt the cohesion in the classroom, playground, and in the homes. Because of the frequency of use on these personal devices, interpersonal communication is greatly hindered. Interpersonal skills are important for a culture to thrive and to be successful. Khmer is spoken in all Australian homes and is practically required for children to learn. This program is not only for increasing cognitive skills, but also for students to communicate fully in their community and within their families. One in every four children in Australia speaks a language other than English. Australian children are encouraged and greatly supported by the community to learn a second language, which is why these numbers are so high. Classical Conditioning and the Pupil Dilation Response National University of Singapore Department of Psychology PL1101E: INTRODUCTION TO PSYCHOLOGY Question 2 Classical Conditioning and the Pupil Dilation Response Here is a simple classical conditioning experiment that you can perform on yourself at home. You will need a bell (or something you can ring), a hand held mirror, and a room that becomes completely dark when the light is turned off. Hold the bell while standing in the room near the light switch. Once in position, you should ring the bell and then immediately turn off the light. After waiting in total darkness for about 15 seconds, turn the light back on. Wait another 15 seconds with the light on, and then ring the bell and immediately turn the light back off... After blindfolding a friend that is seated on the chair with his or her legs positioned one over the other, sound the buzzer before immediately tapping your friend just below his or her knee with the clinical hammer. Wait for 5 seconds before repeating this procedure for 20 to 30 times, making sure in each trial that the buzzer is sounded immediately before the tapping of your friend s knee. After numerous pairings, it is theoretically possible to observe a reflexive knee jerk even without tapping your friend s knee, once the buzzer sounds. In this classical conditioning experiment, the tapping of the person s knee with a clinical hammer is the UCS, as it is a naturally occurring stimulus that elicits the UCR, which in this case is the reflexive knee jerk action. The distinctive sound given out by the buzzer was initially the NS, but eventually became the CS, after 20 to 30 pairings with the UCS within close intervals of 5 seconds during the experiment. It has become a stimulus that is subsequently capable of eliciting a learned reflex response on its own (CR) which was originally an UCR, because it has been paired with the original UCS. This can be seen from the results shown by the classical conditioning experiment conducted above. After the numerous pairings between the sound given out by the buzzer (NS) and the tapping of the knee using a clinical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Though there are many options for ones higher education degree, individuals seeking a career in archives typically pursue a degree in History or LIS because of the significant overlap between the degree and the professional competencies (Shepherd, 2010, 187). His words are so powerful, that they make you feel as if you are one of the Light Brigade. With this war language he uses he gives the reader a feeling of heroism and bravery, an inexorable feeling. Into the jaws of Death, into the mouth of hell . In this line I have come across personification, as the valley has been brought to life by being given human attributes. This line suggests that the whole world knew of their bravery and that they would be always remembered as heroes of their era. Reeled from the sabre stroke, in this short line you can nearly hear the sabres slashing through the air violently. Shattered and sundered tells us that they were beaten, but beaten as warriors of war. Then they rode back, but not, Not the six hundred . This statement is very emphatic and stark, which makes the reader dwell on their unfortunate defeat. Although the Indian Ocean trade network was small when it first began, the network was able to expand and led to the inclusion of Europe while the exchange of ideas, goods and religion remained constant. During this time period, the construction of large and powerful states provided security for merchants and travelers, which helped long distance commerce. The golden ages of numerous powerful states also led to the flourishing of ideas. At the beginning of the time period, Malay sailors learn how to use the winds from monsoons to sail to China and India. This allowed for the exchange of knowledge and allowed the various groups of people to make connections. The Malay sailors desired the cotton and sugar from India and also craved the silk from China, and spices such as cinnamon, pepper, cloves, nutmeg and mace from the East Indies. This trade network was small when it was first established. As time progresses, changes within the Indian Ocean region occur. New states were created such as Srivijaya and the Swahili City States. Trade routes expand to further distances. Connections are made to the Trans Saharan trade in Africa. The East African Swahili city states also become incorporated into this trade network. The two of them fall in love, and Bella is put in danger by a different group of vampires. There have been several different types of criticism towards this book and every criticism is different ; it includes being one hundred percent justifiable to do absolutely anything for the one you love. Others have also said that it was not intended to relate to teen girls, but it actually ended up doing just that. Also, some critics have compared Twilightto Harry Potter in the sense that both of the stories lie in a dream (Bethune). Brian Bethune wrote a criticism called Love at First Bite which at first compares Stephenie Meyer s Twilightto J.K. Rowlings Harry Potter. There are various reasons why Bethune believes that Twilight is similar to Harry Potter. He believes that Meyer s and Rowling s stories lie in a dream (Bethune). This is easy to agree with because Twilight is based on a vampire friendly romance. This is obviously unrealistic and would never happen in real life. In Harry Potter, the story is based on a warlock who fights off all different kinds of magical and mythical creatures. Evidently, it is easy to figure out that this story also lies in a dream.
