The Pros And Cons Of Technology In The Workplace
According to Frontier Business, Around one third of companies (33%) have specific technology
budgets set aside for their marketing departments (Frontier business). There are many ways
technology is used in the workplace the main being in their production lines. Although technology
causes some people to lose jobs, technologybenefits the workplace because it is more efficient,
creates new jobs, cheaper to use technology.
While there is plenty of evidence to show that technology should be used in the workplace, there
is, of course, the opposing side. Some argue that technology should not be used in the
workplace. Since technology has been added to the workplace a significant number of people
have lost their jobs. According to, David Crane, in his article, writes, Job losses will continue in
manufacturing as more advanced technologies, such as totally computerized assembly lines,
take over production (Crane). If the workplace continues to add technology, then more people
will lose their job; however not everyone has lost their jobs, there has been less jobs removed
than what people think. David Crane, opposes, The main impact of new technologies will not be
on the number of total jobs but on the changes in occupations and skill requirements in the
workplace (Crane). If you lose your jobs that is most likely because you no longer have a skill they
look for, then you will have to acquire that new skill, or they can just hire those who already have
that skill.
First reason why we should use technology in the workplace, technology benefits the workplace
because it is more efficient. In a newspaper article, Dayton Daily News, Bernard Condon, wrote,
Year after year, the software that runs computers and an array of other machines and devices
becomes more sophisticated and capable of doing more efficiently tasks that humans once did
(Condon). If technology continues to progress it will be able to do many different things that
increase production, then businesses will also improve the economy. Furthermore, in another
newspaper article, Toronto Star, David Crane, stated, New technology leads to higher productivity
which can preserve existing jobs and add new ones. Higher productivity also allows companies to

When I wake up the other side of my bed is cold. Prim must of crawled into our mother s bed
seeking warmth in the dark and stormy night. This gives me ample time to get out of bed without
waking her up on this tiring weekend. Well, in District 12 every weekend is a tiring weekend.
District 12 is the coal district, we mine coal from the mines, and send it to other districts and the
Capitol. This means we re also the poorest district in Panem. Coal mining is not a very profitable
occupation. We don t get enough food to survive.
Every day I go to the border that is lined with electric lines.
Sometimes you can hear their buzz, but since we re in district 12 it s usually off most of the time
because of energy shortages. I put my ear close to the lines, it s silent, all you can hear are the
birds and the animals on the other side. A perfect source of food.
The woods are my second home, I learned everything I need to survive in the woods from my dad.
As long as you can find yourself, you will always survive, he used to say. He would of gone
hunting with me today, if he hadn t died in the coal mines. He did leave pieces of himself out in
the woods though, his wooden bows he made for me. I walk to a log and pull it up slightly, there
lies my bow, with a sheath of arrows. I

The company is organised in several large departments: Wholesale, Retail Sales, Sales to Foreign
Markets, Purchasing, Logistics and Supporting Services. Customers include construction
companies, trading organisations, installation companies, industrial enterprises, craftsmen and
small entrepreneurs, as well as end consumers. The company makes almost 60% of its sales
revenues by selling goods wholesale. To make the sales quick and efficient, the Wholesale
Department has been divided into four sales sub divisions. At present, Merkur has 38 retail sales
centres in Slovenia. Specialisation increases the effectiveness of sales, so two types of Merkur
sales centres were developed: MERKURDOM focusing on ordinary households, and
MERKURMOJSTER intended for DIY (do it yourself) users. More information about MerkurDom
and MerkurMojster is available on Merkur internet site: www.merkur.si.

Essay about Family and Medical Leave Act (Fmla)
Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) What is Family and Medical leave Act (FMLA)? The
Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) that was passed in 1993, is a national policy that grants
workers up to twelve weeks of unpaid leave in four situations. These four situations are for
pregnancy; to care for an infant, such as newborns, newly placed foster children, and adoptions;
to care for a relative with a serious health condition; or to allow an employee to recover and
recuperate from a personal serious health condition. This paper will be discussing the impact of
FMLA on employers and the protections provided by this law. (Vikesland, 2009)

President Bush prior to the passing of FMLA in 1992 vetoed a similar bill which was to
suppress the creation of new jobs resulting in the elimination of jobs that already existed. With
the election of President Clinton in 1992 assured the passing of FMLA which has been the focal
point of Clinton s campaign. (dol.gov., 2009) The FMLA was the first legislation that Clinton
signed after taking office. After that, employers and employees who are supporter of FMLA
amended this to make sure it was incorporated in more workplaces and to help provide for paid
leave instead of unpaid leave. Employers or employees skeptical of the FMLA focused on
current Department of Labor regulations for needless burdens upon employers. The Society for
Human Resource Management had arguments regarding the truth and legitimacy of requested
leave. With those arguments, there were changes in the policy and procedures of being an
employee in a company revisiting regulations. There was also a concern that employment law
had failed to account for changes through employers and did not provide enough protection to
family life. There were prominent congressional debates over the bill due to the potential loss of
an employee/ parent who may be forced to quit their job in order to care for one of the four
situations that FMLA covers. Investigators who took a survey of leave not only

Race and Ethnicity
Ethnicity and race have been used in American society to the point where both words are
indistinguishable from each other. Race is a social construct (Throop, Lecture, 10/8/2015). Race is a
social construct because race is used to differentiate the different ethnic groups from each other.
Race should not be used to separate the different ethnic groups. In American society, it is evident
that certain ethnic groups are singled out for the problems in our society. Usually those ethnic
groups are minorities. African Americans and Latinos are usually the minorities that are singled out
for the problems or benefit of the majority. In the article, Who Dat?: Race and Its Conspicuous
Consumption in Post Katrina New Orleans, Marc Perry states how African Americancitizens were
affected by the devastating hurricane Katrina in 2005 and how the citizens reacted before and after
hurricane Katrina to the relocation of African Americans to other places for the restructuring of
New Orleans (Perry). In a related article titled, Putting the Ninth Ward on the map: Race, Place,
and Transformation in Desire, New Orleans, Rachel Breunlin and Helen Regis state how African
Americans living in New Orleans before and after hurricane Katrina were being dislocated for the
benefit of whites for the restructuring of Post Katrina in Desire,New Orleans and caused the culture

This video is a lecture by Jean Kilbourne. She is the creator of several films in the Killing us
Softly series, which deal with the exploitation of women in advertising. She is also a famed
author, speaker and political advisor. A surprising fact presented in this video is that audiences in
America are exposed to an average of 3,000 ads per day. Overall, Americans will spend an
average of 3 years of their lifetime watching commercials. It is no surprise that the images
presented on those commercials mold the minds and ideas of viewers, even at a subconscious level.

Comparison Of The Chrysler Building And The Seagram Building
When thinking of buildings that were ahead of their time two come to mind the Chrysler Building
and the Seagram Building. Both of these structures were built to withstand the elements of time
and are still beautiful to this day. These buildings have been featured on the cover of magazines,
tv shows and are modern marvels in today s society. Between the two buildings, one can not help
but look at the similarities as well as the differences between the two. Today I want to discuss these
differences as well as the similarities and go into greater detail on why these buildings are
significant. The Chrysler Buildingis an Art Decostyle skyscraper that was built during one of the
most severe economic downturns in this country s history. The building was finished in the year
1930 and is located in New York City. The Chrysler Building was constructed using stainless steel
over an exposed building surface which was a first for its time (History of Walter P. Chrysler and
the Chrysler Building, n.d.). The next important thing to think about when understanding the
Chrysler Building is to figure out what it was designed for. Although the building was not owned
by Chrysler it was used for the corporation s offices which used the building until the mid 1950 s
(Chrysler Building, n.d). Next, when one looks at the Chrysler Building they can tell it represents
an Art Deco style by its many unique features. The Chrysler Building represents the Art Deco style
because of its monuments,

Texas Government Structure
Shared leadership includes maximizing all of the human resources in an organization by
empowering individuals and offering them an opportunity to take leadership positions in their areas
of proficiency. With more intricate markets increasing the demands on leadership, the job in many
cases is merely too much for one individual. Governor Patrick is known as the most conservative
and productive assembly of the State Senate in Texas history. Concentrating on strategies to keep
Texas families and communities safe and the state financial system strong, under his leadership, the
Senate voted for legislation to dramatically increase. Governor Patrick is a candid supporter of law

This is an example of a governor s willingness to work with legislators at quarters and personally
lobbying their bills (Rosenthal, A., 2004). The Texas Legislature is the most powerful of the three
main branches of government. However, none of the three branches is particularly strong, and the
Legislature may be better described as less weak than the other branches (www.laits.utexas.edu).
The legislative branch s status amongst the governing structures of both Texas and the United
States gives it extensive authority. According to the Handbook of Texas Online:
Under the Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, the legislature, as representative of
the people of Texas, exercises plenary powers, limited only by the Texas and United States
constitutions and valid federal laws. The legislature may exercise the state s inherent police power
to promote and safeguard the public safety, health, morals, and welfare; and, by nineteenth century
judicial interpretation, is

Neat People Vs Sloppy People By Suzanna Britt
Neat People Vs. Sloppy People
In Suzanna Britt essay Neat People Vs. Sloppy People , she argues that the difference between the
two individuals is just not cleanliness; instead, the difference between neat and sloppy people is
moral; unlike what the perception on the outside, neat people do not care enough and, sloppy
people care too much. Britt says, Their sloppiness is merely their unfortunate consequence of their
extreme moral rectitude (Britt 233). Then, she makes a statement that Neat people are bums and
clods at heart and they have cavalier attitudes towards possession (Britt 234). Britt is conveying the
idea that sloppy people have a stronger moral value than neat people because they set goals that are

Sloppy people like to live a relaxed, calm lifestyle and accept things the way they are. In contrast,
when neat people look for solution to problems and try to fix things that are not right to them.
They also feel that they have to be control of situations and are sometimes afraid to show the fun
personality to others. That s why neat people typically lack creativity because they have a narrow
viewpoint on things and can t think outside the box. On the hand, sloppy individuals are
considered very creative because they take the time to explore new ideas and try new things.
Being messy means being more productivity; for example sloppy have an organized chaos lifestyle
that allows them to be more efficient and productive. Although, on the surface things look messy,

Vincent Van Gogh As A Craftsman
Vincent van Gogh, a standout amongst the most understood post impressionist craftsmen, for
whom shading was the central image of articulation, was conceived in Groot Zundert, Holland
on March 30, 1853.The child of a minister, raised in a religious and refined climate, Vincent was
exceptionally enthusiastic, needed fearlessness and battled with his character and with course. He
trusted that his actual calling was to lecture the gospel; notwithstanding, it took a long time for
him to find his calling as a craftsman. In the vicinity of 1860 and 1880, when he at last chose to
end up plainly a craftsman, van Gogh had officially experienced two inadmissible and troubled
sentiments and had worked unsuccessfully as an assistant in a book shop, a workmanship sales
representative, and an evangelist in the Borinage where he was rejected for enthusiasm. He stayed
in Belgium to think about workmanship, resolved to give bliss by making excellence. Crafted by
his initial Dutch period are serious conditioned, forcefully lit, sort sketches of which the most well

do not know anything about this profession you are going in clueless. Fortis college was my
greatest experiance, with the most amazing people people, and teachers. If it was not for school I
would definietly not know the accuracy of speed, the multitasking with communication, and
computer skills for a pharmacy that is needed. Being fast at what you do with know mistakes is a
major task to know in a pharmacy world. In retail pharmacy there are many prescriptions a day,
so speed for counting and lableing is a must. They do not want you to go to fast though because
they want accuracy also. Even with competetitors, this is where our speed needs to be, to get
patients in and out with smiling faces. For instance, Wallgreens where my extern is, since I have
been there we had about 30 to 40 people transfere from the location they went to all the time, to
ours because of great customer service and our speed. It is either on your toes you are good to go,
or on your butt all the time out the door kind of thing. Anyone within Pharmacy can tell you that
multitasking and communication skills are your two best friends. On a tuesday when I was at

1.There are a number of pay philosophies and methods used to pay expatriates including what has
called host country, global and home country approaches. What are the advantages and
disadvantages of these approaches? Why is the home country approach most often used? What are
the limitations of the home country approach? Organizations use pay strategies to assist in the
administration of compensation plans. The use of a formal pay strategy allows the assessment and
grouping of similar jobs together. Global employers follow different pay strategies because pay
strategies are profoundly influenced by different factors such as culture, social contracts, labor
relations and management practice. Compensation creates a link between reward and results.
Meaning that organizations seek to achieve the return of investments made on employees by
motivating and appropriately rewarding them to influence performance, making the design and
implementation of effective performance management systems an extremely important aspect of
global HRM. The biggest advantage of the strategy to pay locally or host country approach, is that
it is designed and implemented to be compliant with the local laws, policies and culture but it may

Analysis Of Boeing And Lockheed Martin
There are a multitude of aerospace manufactures in the business of building airplanes worldwide
such as Boeing and Lockheed Martin. In order to become a global leader in an ultra competitive
market, such as the aerospace industry, Boeing implements cost reducing initiatives such as lean
manufacturing practices. In order to build a complex item such as an airplane on time and on
budget, a manufacture will require a competent supply chain managementsystem to ensure all the
needed parts are available to the builders. Implementing technology such as automated equipment to
assist in the reduction of human errors and fatigue will reduces costs associated with rework caused
by human error mistakes.
History and background of the organization, also including the types of goods sold and industry in
which the organization operates. The remarkable Boeing Company was founded in the summer of
1916 by the illustrious William E. Boeing. William Boeing built the foundation of the company on
acts and truths rather than assumptions and guesses (Boeing, 2016b). Utilizing facts such as
measuring process times to complete a manufacturing process enables a business to benchmark its

Kingdom of Heaven what s True from False
The movie Kingdom of Heaven took place during medieval times. The movie is some what factual
but certain parts of the movie are based on false elements. The movie s factual elements began with
the first crusades, which began in 1144 and ended in 1149. The fight between the Muslims and
Christians over the Holy land Jerusalem ended with the Christians giving the Holy Land to the
Muslims. The Kingdom of Heaven is a good movie but, not historically correct . It explains what
happens during the first crusade but, they were inaccurate with the characters. This film is not as
historically correct as other movies could be, but has a good understanding in some areas.
There are many accurate characters in this film. Balian is a great character, but is not truly
portrayed by Hollywood. Balian never was a blacksmith, and his wife never committed suicide,
he also knew his father, but was legitimate to him. Balian and Sibylla never were never involved

Caribbean Sea Abiotic Factors
The Caribbean Sea in located off the coast of North, Central, and South Americas. This sea spans
about two million, seven hundred and fifty three thousand square kilometers. There are also many
islands found in the midst of the Caribbean Sea. While these islands are a great place for a
vacation, the populations of people on the islands can affect life. Many different factors influence
life in the Caribbean Sea. These factors are divided into two categories; abiotic factors and biotic
factors. These types of factors can influence biodiversity in a certain area. A change in a single
population results in a huge change in an ecosystem that was previously well balanced and diverse.
Populations change in size all as a result of these factors.
Abiotic factors, such as rainfall and temperature, are different from place to place. In the Caribbean,
the abiotic factors vary from water current to water depth, from the amount of sunlight to the
oxygen levels. The Caribbean Sea is large and there are many measuring points throughout the
sea, this results in different conclusions for the same question. Now, that being said, the results

community, economy and environment (www.seacoastlocal.org). They have chosen five areas
on which they would like to make an impact. These areas are: local business, local food, local

just recently created a project called the 10% Shift. Seacoastlocal found that if five million
households in New England shifted 10% more of their existing purchases from non local

thousands of new jobs created and billions of dollars of new economic activity in New England,
all without raising taxes or spending a dime more than we planned (www.seacoastlocal.org). Slow

Critical Analysis Of The Raven
Within the poem The Raven written by Edgar Allen Poe, is a speaker who lives alone. The speaker
within the poem must confront the reality of his circumstances, by admitting the death of his wife
named Lenore. Throughout the poem, Edgar Allen Poe describes the vicious cyclical combat of
grief through the speaker, as he imagines faint whispering and tapping on his door. Within his
psychotic episodes, the speaker witnesses a talking raven. The ravenacts as a symbol of truth
concerning the death of Lenore. Only to leave the speaker with the inability to accept his wife s
death.
Throughout the poem, Poe emphasizes characteristics of the speaker through the setting. The

This is due to the raven, ultimately linking the internal conflict of the speaker. The relationship
between the speaker s grieving process is seen through the speaker s perspective of the raven.
Because the raven represents the death of Lenore, Poe first introduces the raven within the poem
as a sudden, and fright full event. The uncertain rustling of each purple curtain catches the
speaker off guard, as it thrill[s] [him] fill[s] [him] with fantastic terrors never felt before (13 14).
By introducing the raven in a frightful manner, Poe implies that Lenore s death was sudden and
terrifying for the speaker. So sudden and terrifying, that the speaker must still the beating of [his]

within the first stanza; and explains why the speaker is suddenly intrigued with [the] visitor
entreating entrance at [his] door (2,16). To comfort himself, the speaker attempts to speak to the
visitor, only to find darkness there, and nothing more (24). By leaving the speaker alone with his
thoughts, Poe is emphasizing the speaker s loneliness and hints towards the speaker s grieving
process. Although it may seem as if the speaker admits to the death of his wife long I stood there

Unruly Americans And The Origins Of The Constitution
1.Purpose of Book The main purpose behind the book Unruly Americans and the Origins of the
Constitution, by Woody Holton is to demonstrate the authors view on the true intent of the Framers
when writing the Constitution. Although at first glance the book may seem to uphold the idea that
the framers wrote the Constitution in order to protect civil liberties, Holton has a different opinion.
To avoid a one sided book, the author not only looks at the framers intent, but the struggles facing
the American people. This book emphasizes the alternative interpretations offered by Americans on
the origins of the Constitution. Holton s purpose with this book was to show that the framers
interests involved making America more attractive to investors. In order to do so, they purposefully
made the government less democratic with the writing of the Constitution. However, with the
addition of the Bill of Rights, one could argue the Framers had at least a slight concern for the
American people and their civil liberties. In offering alternative interpretations of the origins of the
Constitution, the author accomplishes his secondary purpose, to make the reader challenge what
they know about the framing of the Constitution. Holton details the rebellion of the Unruly
Americans against the state and national governments, using Adonijah Mathews as an ultimate
example of the common man. Mathews views are presented in order to contrast the views of James
Madison, whom it seems the author

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Introduction
San Bernardino City Unified School District houses one of the largest populations for students
with moderate to severe disabilities within the Inland Empire. Over the past decade San
Bernardino City Unified School District (SBCUSD) has sustained an influx of students who
qualify for a moderate to severe special day classroom (SDC) setting and special education services.
Effectively educating youth with moderate to severe disabilities is not a simplex task, as it requires
multifaceted skillsets involving various special education professionals. Developing and executing a
service delivery model that targets student s individual needs, while simultaneously supporting
students in strides towards life long goals is crucial. Carmack Elementary is one of fifty two
elementary schools within SBCUSD that only provides educational services to students with
moderate to severe disabilities grades kindergarten through sixth. The community surrounding

Spain And Spanish Culture
When examining any culture, pieces of other ideologies and cultural normalities different than the
foremost culture prevail, intertwining different cultures together. Spain, historically, has been
known to be a passing point for a wide variety of religious groups. During the ancient world,
Christian, Muslim, and Jewish peoples coexisted, each ultimately contributing to Spanish culture.
Starting around 701 C.E., Muslim forces began to expand into areas around the Middle East,
gradually broadening this land mass to reach Spain. Initially, Arab invaders were met with vigorous
resistance; however, as time went on, invaders experienced little opposition, allowing them to reap
city after city. Within the newly Arab conquered cities, other religious groups faced little
discrimination. Additionally, this conquest established the ever present influence of Islamon Spanish
culture. In this case, Spain adopted Islamic cultural innovations such as: forms of writing, religious
aspects, architectural styles, and materials supplied for said architectural innovations. Trailing into
the modern world, traces of Islamic culture are evidently intertwined into Spanish culture. Due to
Spain s rich history in interweaving cultures, it can be said that Spanish culture is intensely
influenced by Islamic culture through the invasion of Arab military in medieval time, visually
retaining influence through culture, religion, and architecture.
At the beginning of the early 700s, Muslims from the Arabian Peninsula began their conquest by
convincing nearby Germanic tribes to surrender; though it was not until they travelled across the
Straits of Gibraltar and attacked around 711 that their expansion truly began. As stated earlier,
other religious groups within Muslim Spain faced little discrimination. This impartial society
could be explained by the Treaty of Tudmir. This treaty promised that [Christians] will not be
coerced in matters of religion, their churches will not be burned, nor will sacred objects be taken
from the realm (Treaty of Tudmir). Islamic forces continued their invasion and took control of
Zaragoza, Spain by 714 C.E. In an opportunity to encourage his men, Tarik, a leader in the conquest
of Spain wrote: attack this

Essay On Health Care Fraud
Health care fraud comes from many aspects. Fraud comes from some type of abuse to the
system. Such abuse can come from billers, providers and or patients. Abuse of the system can
turn into fraud. Because the fraud can come from many angles, it makes it really difficult for
regulatory agencies to detect and protect against abuse and fraud. However, many changes to the
system and the collaboration of regulations by many agencies have made a difference. Health
care fraud is a crime that over time has had a significant impact on public and private health care
payment system (Kongstvedt, 2013). Making a difference for this topic can have a significant
impact on health care in general. Health care fraud takes a lot of means from the system,
therefore affecting its goals. Not only does it distract the system from its objective, it also affects
the financial status of the government. It takes a lot of effort to control fraud, economic effort that
can otherwise be use in other struggles. Because this industry is one that grows with popularity, it
is very difficult for only one organization to control or manage abuse or fraud. Popularity in this
field brings great financial gains by those who choose to cheat or abuse the system. Above all, one
must continue to make efforts to fight back and to control the losses caused by fraud. In order to
continue these efforts, one must first understand how much is lost by these criminal acts.
Therefore, this paper will focus on one

Analysis of Women RoleВґs in Louisa May AlcottВґs Little Women
Throughout most of the 19th century, feminine behavior was expected from every respectable
woman. However Lousia May Alcott s novel Little Women displays interesting qualities from her
characters that represent aberrance and independence; Alcott challenged conventional beliefs
about how women should behave in the 1800s. Similar to Alcott herself, the main character was
determined to become a writer despite the fact that popular portrayals of working women during
the era often pictured them as socially deviant and was considered unfit to become a motherly
figure (Alcott, Louisa May). She wrote Little Women as a moral paper for children, allowing any
young reader to relate to at least one of the March Girls: Meg, Jo, Beth, or Amy ( In the Garret ).
In her innovative novel Little Women, Alcott expresses her controversial views concerning
traditional roles of women through the temperamental protagonist, Jo, who represents
independence and morality for girls in the late 1800s. Traditional roles of women in America
during the 1860s were significantly different than they are today. Around the Civil War era, most
women were expected to be homemakers above anything else. They spent much of their days
cooking, sewing, or cleaning, and if they failed to create a cheerful, cozy home environment, they
were looked down upon because it was considered unacceptable according to society s standards. (

Comparing Augustine de Hippo and Mohammed to the Idea of a...
Greek and Roman cultural values pervaded the Western religious society and made it possible for
a series of Christian and Muslim religious individuals to be associated with historic figures present
in Ancient Greece and Rome. While the modern society has a different understanding of the
concept of the traditional hero, society during the early centuries perceived heroes as being
individuals who possessed a series of attributes related to religious ideas and to a general attitude
that promoted moral behavior. Individuals like Augustine de Hippo and Mohammed have come to
be seen as having several attributes that linked them to the idea of the classic Greek hero.
It is surely surprising that religion has adopted a pagan Greek term with the purpose of trying to
describe some of its most notable figures. It is not necessarily that Augustine de Hippo and
Mohammed were considered to possess superhuman abilities, as people came to associate them
with heroes because they were dedicated to assisting the masses and because they were
predisposed to doing good.
In addition to being perceived as one of the most important attributes in a saint, heroism actually
started to be praised by Christians as one of the principal qualities in any true Christian. Augustine
de Hippo basically believed that in order to be seen by God as a person who was capable to serve
divinity, the respective individual needed to be familiar with the attitudes that he or she needed to

Later it was discovered that anabolic steroids could facilitate the growth of skeletal muscle which
led to abuse by bodybuilders, weightlifters, and athletes in other sports. Abuse of anabolic
steroids can cause acne, breast development in men, heart attacks, and liver cancer. Most side
effects are reversible if the abuser stops taking the drugs, but some are permanent, such as voice
deepening in females. Possible health consequences for men are infertility, shrinking of the

growth of body hair can happen. It can affect the musculoskeletal cardiovascular system, liver,

Treatment of anabolic steroid abuse uses medications to restore the hormonal system after its

Zoot Suit Riots Summary
In the United States, and especially in border states such as California, Mexican immigrants and
Mexican Americans have had to live with constant racism and discrimination throughout the better
part of the twentieth century. Finally, after years of trying to assimilate and live up to the American
standard, tempers finally reached their boiling point. The accumulation of pent up tension over the
years between the Anglo and Mexican communities reached its limit. The end result was the Zoot

wear on a daily basis. Although the style was meant to serve as an empowering statement for
African American youth, for Chicano youth, the style seemed to signify gang activity to the Anglo
community. This already shows how tensions between the two communities were close to erupting
even before the riots. There was major distrust and suspicion from Anglos towards the Chicano
community simply because they felt their style was different and not what patriotic Americans

A Brief Note On The Common Type Of Bone Cancer Essay
Osteosarcoma Osteosarcoma is the most common type of bone cancer. Approximately 800 new
cases of this disease are diagnosed in the United States every year and about 400 of these are in
children and teens (American Society). This type of bone cancer commonly affects adolescents and
young adults, but is not limited to this age range. This canceroccurs about twice as often in males
than females. This illness can undoubtedly emerge in any bone but most of the times it occurs in
long bones before possibly spreading to others areas of the body. The negative impact that
Osteosarcoma has on patient s life is not different from other cancer patients. It is important to
inform others about what Osteosarcoma is, how it is diagnosed and treated, and explain
organization and research being done in order to create better awareness about this condition
because it is life threatening.
Osteosarcoma is a frequent primary malignant cancerous tumor of the skeleton characterized by
the direct formation of immature bone or how it arises in the osteoid tissue in the bone (Picci).
This type of bone cancer develops in the osteoblasts cells in normal bone. It begins in the bones
but it can sometimes spread to other areas of the body including organs, such as lungs, and bones.
Osteosarcoma unfolds in areas where the bone is growing fast because of the uncontrolled growth
of the cells in the bone. In fact Scientist have not discovered the causes of most cases of

Periodontitis Research Paper
Introduction
Periodontitis is a gum disease that causes inflammation of the tissues that surround and anchor the
teeth to the bone. This inflammatory process is caused by plaque, a biofilm of bacteria, that
originate at the gingiva and extends into the connective tissue, alveolar bone and the outer surface
of the roots of the teeth. According to American Academy of Periodontology, there are several types
of periodontal disease which are identified based on the severity of the disease and the amount of
damaged tissue that s present at the time of the examination. Three major types are the Chronic
Periodontitis, the Aggressive Periodontitis and Necrotizing Periodontal Disease 1(194).

Periodontium is the structure that supports and holds a tooth in place, which consists of cementum,
the jaw bone, the periodontal membrane and the gingivae. When Porphyromonas gingivalis
attaches to salivary molecules, epithelial cells, matrix proteins, and teeth bacteria, it first colonizes
the sub gingival area and then extends deeper down to the root area. Binding of P.gingivalis to all
those substances is mediated by P. gingivalis fibrillin, the structural subunit of the major fimbriae.
To grow and reproduce, P.gingivalis requires hemin, the source of peptides and iron that are used
by the bacterium to produce five proteases and three hemagglutinins which are responsible for the
breakdown of the gingival tissue in periodontal disease. This produce inflammatory response which
is triggered by the host s immune response which in its turn leads to swelling of the gingivae and
the development of periodontal pockets around the tooth. After the pocket has been formed, more
bacteria enters these pockets causing more inflammation, periodontal abscess and bone eradication.
if left untreated, the tooth becomes loose and eventually falls out of its periodontal socket 3

The beautiful town of Stillwater is located on the St. Croix river in the St. Croix River Valley
and is known as the Birthplace of Minnesota. The early days of Stillwater were uncertain and
uneasy as the land was fought over for many years. The coveted land transitioned from being
part of Wisconsin territory to being included in Washington county in 1938. All the while,
lumbering interests drew many to the area and white settlers took up residence in Stillwater.
One former soldier, Indian trader, Justice of the Peace and promoter, Joseph Renshaw Brown
had been in the area since 1820. He had set up a store and farm at Grey Cloud Island and kept a
warehouse at the head of Lake St. Croix to supply upriver fur trading operations. This

African American Country Artist Essay
Similar to Bailey and Pride, Darius Rucker, the third African American country singer to perform
onstage at the Grand Ole Opry, did not enter the country music industry to make a pathway for other
African Americans. Instead, Rucker had a passion for the guitar strumming,
honky tonk melody, which he decided to pursue after his involvement with the rock band,
Hootie and the Blowfish. Rucker said in an interview with the New York Times, Hate mail s
been a part of my life; that s just the way it is. There s still people who don t want me to be
singing country music, but I never want to let anybody tell me what I can do , which portrays
Rucker s pride for his culture and how he does not let racial obscenities interfere with his music

to get their faces revealed in the country spotlight. If an artist lacks determination and vigor, it is
hard for them to keep performing in front of audiences that are familiar with watching and listening
to white country performers. Ultimately, many African Americans steer away from the country

In the collaborations, however, African Americans are still depicted as rappers. This portrayal
raises the questions, Is the country genre becoming more accepting of black performers? Or is it
revealing the stereotype that African Americans can only be associated with the rap

Blacks In Film Essay
Film is one of the most influential means of communication and a powerful medium of propaganda.
Race and representation is central to the study of the black film actor, since the major studios
continue to reflect and reinforce the stereotyps of our times.
The depiction of blacks in Hollywood movies reinforce many of the misconceptions of the white
majority rather than objective reality, limiting black actors to stereotypical roles.
The movie quot;Soul Food quot; proved to be the inspiration for African Americans hungry for
balanced, realistic depictions of blacks in America The film is about a Chicago family who airs out
its tribulations over Sunday dinner. It depicts well educated African Americans in lavish suburban

The black ghetto of television has opened up lately, and shows featuring African
Americans in a variety of roles may be viewed any night of the week. This shift is primarily the
result of challenges made by the NAACP, and the resulting general shifts in public attitudes about
race. But the new representations of blacks are also shaped by the historical stereotypes which
plagued African Americans.
In 1971 actor and director Melvin Van Peebles wrote, produced, starred in, and composed the
soundtrack for the film Sweet Sweetback s Badasssss Song . An entirely black production, it
broke the mold of black characterization in feature films. The story revolves around a pimp
suddenly radicalized by aiding a young black revolutionary who is beaten by white cops. His
resulting disgust with the white establishment struck a cord with black audiences everywhere. The
films ending, with it s proclamation that quot;a badasssss nigger is coming back to collect some
dues, quot; heralded the arrival of a new era in
Hollywood and for blacks in film. Blaxploitation was born.
Blaxploitation refered to a series of films in which African American

Drug Trafficking
The international drug trade from Latin American states is having an impact on a global scale. The
trafficking of drugs along with corruptness and murder is an international conflict that is being
fought daily. There are many aspects of the drug war from Mexico and other Latin American states
which have effects on United Statespolicy as well as policies from other countries that participate in
the global suppression of illegal drugs. It can be hard to differentiate between conflict and issue in
regards to Latin America s drug war and International Relations. The Mexican drug waris a global
issue because it interferes with the states ability to collaborate and form policy in order to address
the issues between international borders.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now, drug trafficking has been taken to the world stage. In regards to the Mexican drug cartels the
United States is working with Mexican interdiction efforts, establishing corruption resistant court
systems and police agencies, in order to help fight off a security threat to the United States.
(Meyer 2009) With the United States being a hegemonic power, one state holding a
preponderance of power in the international system allowing it to dominate the rules and
arrangements in international political and economic decisions are made power in the world, they
have imposed states with certain conditions/standards in order to receive aid. Mexico has
frequently stated that the Untied States is acting unilaterally and violating their sovereignty.
Sovereignty is the idea that each state has the right to do whatever it desires within its own
territory. Another reason that this conflict is being targeted by different government organizations
is that terrorists have become involved in the drug trade. The United States is concerned that due
to the weakened budget from the efforts of the war on terror and the war on drugs its borders are
becoming available to the smuggling of terrorists. (Levin 2010) With the passage of the North
American Free Trade Agreement, signed by the United States, Canada, and Mexico that allows for
the trade of goods with little or no tariffs or trade restrictions, concerns were raised as

Benefits Of A Small Business Essay
For centuries, people have taken pleasure in creating plush, green, shaded gardens. Today, over one
million people work in the grounds maintenance industry which creates and beautiful landscapes.
Among the thousands of workers and businesses that comprise the lawn care industry, two groups
exist: large and small companies. Greatly profitable enterprises, as a result of their successful
businessstrategies, customarily invest profits in the company to increase employment and diversify
the selection of offered services. Consequently, as the company s aptitude to service a larger
clientele increases, the company will expand and thus increase annual revenue allowing the cycle of
growth to continue. Smaller businesses, contrarily, usually do not end operating seasons with
enough financial resources to invest in equipment and personnel. Accordingly, the breadth of a
small businesss service does not significantly expand from year to year. Over time, however,
smaller businesses develop and expand. When smaller companies lack the employees to accomplish
newly assumed responsibilities, I find work. Throughout the year, a local business, which manages
several lawncare accounts without a lawn care division, outsources several lawn care jobs to me.
With the help of this research, I hope to improve my service, increase efficiency, and learn methods
of managing and creating service accounts to convince the small business owner of my competency
to manage all of the proprietors lawn

Examples Of Superego In The Dark Night
Film has been able to translate these examples through their main characters and their behaviour.
For example, in the movie The Dark Night (Nolan, 2008) , the Ego is represented by Batman
(Bruce Wayne) who wants to keep order even if his methods are questionable by others. The
Joker represents the Id; he is determined to show that all people are selfish monsters inside out.
Harvey Dent, who remains over evil and chaos, looking for justice, would represent the Super
Ego. Roy Scheider as police Chief Brody will try to protect the citizens of Amity. A similar
example can be found in the movie Jaws (Spielberg, 1975). The Superego is represented by
Hooper, who in order to hunt sharks adopts a methodical and rational approach. Quin represents
the Id, prone to anger, grudges and vendettas. Brody, who acts as a mediator between Hooper
and Quin, would represent the Ego. The Id is completely controlled by the pleasure principle ,
which is continuously searching to release the tension caused by any given process by the
avoidance of pain and the production of pleasure (Freud, 1975). Freud explains that kid s Id
controls the great majority of their behaviour. They look to satisfy urges such as food and water as

Scopophilia . This refers to the pleasure of looking without being acknowledged. Freud considers
this to be a regular instinct in childhood. Voyeurism and the male gaze were central elements of
this tendency and they can be both appreciated in Rear Window , where everything is told from the

  • 2. The Pros And Cons Of Technology In The Workplace According to Frontier Business, Around one third of companies (33%) have specific technology budgets set aside for their marketing departments (Frontier business). There are many ways technology is used in the workplace the main being in their production lines. Although technology causes some people to lose jobs, technologybenefits the workplace because it is more efficient, creates new jobs, cheaper to use technology. While there is plenty of evidence to show that technology should be used in the workplace, there is, of course, the opposing side. Some argue that technology should not be used in the workplace. Since technology has been added to the workplace a significant number of people have lost their jobs. According to, David Crane, in his article, writes, Job losses will continue in manufacturing as more advanced technologies, such as totally computerized assembly lines, take over production (Crane). If the workplace continues to add technology, then more people will lose their job; however not everyone has lost their jobs, there has been less jobs removed than what people think. David Crane, opposes, The main impact of new technologies will not be on the number of total jobs but on the changes in occupations and skill requirements in the workplace (Crane). If you lose your jobs that is most likely because you no longer have a skill they look for, then you will have to acquire that new skill, or they can just hire those who already have that skill. First reason why we should use technology in the workplace, technology benefits the workplace because it is more efficient. In a newspaper article, Dayton Daily News, Bernard Condon, wrote, Year after year, the software that runs computers and an array of other machines and devices becomes more sophisticated and capable of doing more efficiently tasks that humans once did (Condon). If technology continues to progress it will be able to do many different things that increase production, then businesses will also improve the economy. Furthermore, in another newspaper article, Toronto Star, David Crane, stated, New technology leads to higher productivity which can preserve existing jobs and add new ones. Higher productivity also allows companies to pay ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

No profit will be made from this work. When I wake up the other side of my bed is cold. Prim must of crawled into our mother s bed seeking warmth in the dark and stormy night. This gives me ample time to get out of bed without waking her up on this tiring weekend. Well, in District 12 every weekend is a tiring weekend. District 12 is the coal district, we mine coal from the mines, and send it to other districts and the Capitol. This means we re also the poorest district in Panem. Coal mining is not a very profitable occupation. We don t get enough food to survive. Every day I go to the border that is lined with electric lines. Sometimes you can hear their buzz, but since we re in district 12 it s usually off most of the time because of energy shortages. I put my ear close to the lines, it s silent, all you can hear are the birds and the animals on the other side. A perfect source of food. The woods are my second home, I learned everything I need to survive in the woods from my dad. As long as you can find yourself, you will always survive, he used to say. He would of gone hunting with me today, if he hadn t died in the coal mines. He did leave pieces of himself out in the woods though, his wooden bows he made for me. The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) that was passed in 1993, is a national policy that grants workers up to twelve weeks of unpaid leave in four situations. These four situations are for pregnancy; to care for an infant, such as newborns, newly placed foster children, and adoptions; to care for a relative with a serious health condition; or to allow an employee to recover and recuperate from a personal serious health condition. (dol.gov., 2009) The FMLA was the first legislation that Clinton signed after taking office. After that, employers and employees who are supporter of FMLA amended this to make sure it was incorporated in more workplaces and to help provide for paid leave instead of unpaid leave. Employers or employees skeptical of the FMLA focused on current Department of Labor regulations for needless burdens upon employers. The Society for Human Resource Management had arguments regarding the truth and legitimacy of requested leave. With those arguments, there were changes in the policy and procedures of being an employee in a company revisiting regulations. There was also a concern that employment law had failed to account for changes through employers and did not provide enough protection to family life. • 6. Race And Ethnicity And Race Zamarripa 1 Marcos Zamarripa Anthropology 9: Society and Culture October 27, 2015 Race and Ethnicity Ethnicity and race have been used in American society to the point where both words are indistinguishable from each other. Race is a social construct (Throop, Lecture, 10/8/2015). Race is a social construct because race is used to differentiate the different ethnic groups from each other. Race should not be used to separate the different ethnic groups. In American society, it is evident that certain ethnic groups are singled out for the problems in our society. Usually those ethnic groups are minorities. African Americans and Latinos are usually the minorities that are singled out for the problems or benefit of the majority. In the article, Who Dat?: Race and Its Conspicuous Consumption in Post Katrina New Orleans, Marc Perry states how African Americancitizens were affected by the devastating hurricane Katrina in 2005 and how the citizens reacted before and after hurricane Katrina to the relocation of African Americans to other places for the restructuring of New Orleans (Perry). In a related article titled, Putting the Ninth Ward on the map: Race, Place, and Transformation in Desire, New Orleans, Rachel Breunlin and Helen Regis state how African Americans living in New Orleans before and after hurricane Katrina were being dislocated for the benefit of whites for the restructuring of Post Katrina in Desire,New Orleans and caused the culture of New ... • 11. Comparison Of The Chrysler Building And The Seagram Building When thinking of buildings that were ahead of their time two come to mind the Chrysler Building and the Seagram Building. Both of these structures were built to withstand the elements of time and are still beautiful to this day. These buildings have been featured on the cover of magazines, tv shows and are modern marvels in today s society. Between the two buildings, one can not help but look at the similarities as well as the differences between the two. Today I want to discuss these differences as well as the similarities and go into greater detail on why these buildings are significant. The Chrysler Buildingis an Art Decostyle skyscraper that was built during one of the most severe economic downturns in this country s history. The building was finished in the year 1930 and is located in New York City. The Chrysler Building was constructed using stainless steel over an exposed building surface which was a first for its time (History of Walter P. Chrysler and the Chrysler Building, n.d.). The next important thing to think about when understanding the Chrysler Building is to figure out what it was designed for. Although the building was not owned by Chrysler it was used for the corporation s offices which used the building until the mid 1950 s (Chrysler Building, n.d). Next, when one looks at the Chrysler Building they can tell it represents an Art Deco style by its many unique features. • 27. Unruly Americans And The Origins Of The Constitution 1.Purpose of Book The main purpose behind the book Unruly Americans and the Origins of the Constitution, by Woody Holton is to demonstrate the authors view on the true intent of the Framers when writing the Constitution. Although at first glance the book may seem to uphold the idea that the framers wrote the Constitution in order to protect civil liberties, Holton has a different opinion. To avoid a one sided book, the author not only looks at the framers intent, but the struggles facing the American people. This book emphasizes the alternative interpretations offered by Americans on the origins of the Constitution. Holton s purpose with this book was to show that the framers interests involved making America more attractive to investors. In order to do so, they purposefully made the government less democratic with the writing of the Constitution. However, with the addition of the Bill of Rights, one could argue the Framers had at least a slight concern for the American people and their civil liberties. In offering alternative interpretations of the origins of the Constitution, the author accomplishes his secondary purpose, to make the reader challenge what they know about the framing of the Constitution. Holton details the rebellion of the Unruly Americans against the state and national governments, using Adonijah Mathews as an ultimate example of the common man. Mathews views are presented in order to contrast the views of James Madison, whom it seems the author ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. Spain And Spanish Culture When examining any culture, pieces of other ideologies and cultural normalities different than the foremost culture prevail, intertwining different cultures together. Spain, historically, has been known to be a passing point for a wide variety of religious groups. During the ancient world, Christian, Muslim, and Jewish peoples coexisted, each ultimately contributing to Spanish culture. Starting around 701 C.E., Muslim forces began to expand into areas around the Middle East, gradually broadening this land mass to reach Spain. Initially, Arab invaders were met with vigorous resistance; however, as time went on, invaders experienced little opposition, allowing them to reap city after city. Within the newly Arab conquered cities, other religious groups faced little discrimination. Additionally, this conquest established the ever present influence of Islamon Spanish culture. In this case, Spain adopted Islamic cultural innovations such as: forms of writing, religious aspects, architectural styles, and materials supplied for said architectural innovations. Trailing into the modern world, traces of Islamic culture are evidently intertwined into Spanish culture. Due to Spain s rich history in interweaving cultures, it can be said that Spanish culture is intensely influenced by Islamic culture through the invasion of Arab military in medieval time, visually retaining influence through culture, religion, and architecture. At the beginning of the early 700s, Muslims from the Arabian Peninsula began their conquest by convincing nearby Germanic tribes to surrender; though it was not until they travelled across the Straits of Gibraltar and attacked around 711 that their expansion truly began. As stated earlier, other religious groups within Muslim Spain faced little discrimination. This impartial society could be explained by the Treaty of Tudmir. This treaty promised that [Christians] will not be coerced in matters of religion, their churches will not be burned, nor will sacred objects be taken from the realm (Treaty of Tudmir). Abuse of the system can turn into fraud. Because the fraud can come from many angles, it makes it really difficult for regulatory agencies to detect and protect against abuse and fraud. However, many changes to the system and the collaboration of regulations by many agencies have made a difference. Health care fraud is a crime that over time has had a significant impact on public and private health care payment system (Kongstvedt, 2013). Making a difference for this topic can have a significant impact on health care in general. Health care fraud takes a lot of means from the system, therefore affecting its goals. Not only does it distract the system from its objective, it also affects the financial status of the government. It takes a lot of effort to control fraud, economic effort that can otherwise be use in other struggles. Because this industry is one that grows with popularity, it is very difficult for only one organization to control or manage abuse or fraud. Popularity in this field brings great financial gains by those who choose to cheat or abuse the system. However Lousia May Alcott s novel Little Women displays interesting qualities from her characters that represent aberrance and independence; Alcott challenged conventional beliefs about how women should behave in the 1800s. Similar to Alcott herself, the main character was determined to become a writer despite the fact that popular portrayals of working women during the era often pictured them as socially deviant and was considered unfit to become a motherly figure (Alcott, Louisa May). She wrote Little Women as a moral paper for children, allowing any young reader to relate to at least one of the March Girls: Meg, Jo, Beth, or Amy ( In the Garret ). In her innovative novel Little Women, Alcott expresses her controversial views concerning traditional roles of women through the temperamental protagonist, Jo, who represents independence and morality for girls in the late 1800s. Traditional roles of women in America during the 1860s were significantly different than they are today. Around the Civil War era, most women were expected to be homemakers above anything else. Greek and Roman cultural values pervaded the Western religious society and made it possible for a series of Christian and Muslim religious individuals to be associated with historic figures present in Ancient Greece and Rome. While the modern society has a different understanding of the concept of the traditional hero, society during the early centuries perceived heroes as being individuals who possessed a series of attributes related to religious ideas and to a general attitude that promoted moral behavior. Individuals like Augustine de Hippo and Mohammed have come to be seen as having several attributes that linked them to the idea of the classic Greek hero. It is surely surprising that religion has adopted a pagan Greek term with the purpose of trying to describe some of its most notable figures. It is not necessarily that Augustine de Hippo and Mohammed were considered to possess superhuman abilities, as people came to associate them with heroes because they were dedicated to assisting the masses and because they were predisposed to doing good. In addition to being perceived as one of the most important attributes in a saint, heroism actually started to be praised by Christians as one of the principal qualities in any true Christian. Augustine de Hippo basically believed that in order to be seen by God as a person who was capable to serve divinity, the respective individual needed to be familiar with the attitudes that he or she needed to put across and with the fact ... • 37. Zoot Suit Riots Summary In the United States, and especially in border states such as California, Mexican immigrants and Mexican Americans have had to live with constant racism and discrimination throughout the better part of the twentieth century. Finally, after years of trying to assimilate and live up to the American standard, tempers finally reached their boiling point. The accumulation of pent up tension over the years between the Anglo and Mexican communities reached its limit. The end result was the Zoot SuitRiots. There are several important factors to take into consideration for the cause of the riots. The style is described as extravagant, it is a suit that is normally a bit baggy on the body, but dressier than what young people, mostly young men, were expected to wear on a daily basis. Although the style was meant to serve as an empowering statement for African American youth, for Chicano youth, the style seemed to signify gang activity to the Anglo community. This already shows how tensions between the two communities were close to erupting even before the riots. There was major distrust and suspicion from Anglos towards the Chicano community simply because they felt their style was different and not what patriotic Americans should ... When Porphyromonas gingivalis attaches to salivary molecules, epithelial cells, matrix proteins, and teeth bacteria, it first colonizes the sub gingival area and then extends deeper down to the root area. Binding of P.gingivalis to all those substances is mediated by P. gingivalis fibrillin, the structural subunit of the major fimbriae. To grow and reproduce, P.gingivalis requires hemin, the source of peptides and iron that are used by the bacterium to produce five proteases and three hemagglutinins which are responsible for the breakdown of the gingival tissue in periodontal disease. This produce inflammatory response which is triggered by the host s immune response which in its turn leads to swelling of the gingivae and the development of periodontal pockets around the tooth. After the pocket has been formed, more bacteria enters these pockets causing more inflammation, periodontal abscess and bone eradication. if left untreated, the tooth becomes loose and eventually falls out of its periodontal socket 3 ... • 44. African American Country Artist Essay Similar to Bailey and Pride, Darius Rucker, the third African American country singer to perform onstage at the Grand Ole Opry, did not enter the country music industry to make a pathway for other African Americans. Instead, Rucker had a passion for the guitar strumming, honky tonk melody, which he decided to pursue after his involvement with the rock band, Hootie and the Blowfish. Rucker said in an interview with the New York Times, Hate mail s been a part of my life; that s just the way it is. There s still people who don t want me to be singing country music, but I never want to let anybody tell me what I can do , which portrays Rucker s pride for his culture and how he does not let racial obscenities interfere with his music (Petrusich).
