The Mortality Rate Of Sex Workers Essay
Regarding the mortality rate of sex workers, One study found that workplace murder risk is 51
times greater [for prostitutes] than for the next most dangerous profession which is operating a
liquor store (Dir. J. K. Wasson and J. Wells). Because prostitution is ultimately seen as a consensual
profession, some may interpret this information with indifference, believing that the sex workers
were willing participants. More often than not, however, sex workers are being coerced into the
industry by some form of force; leading them to be exploited for physical and economic gain. In
order to convince someone that the prostitutionindustry influences the victimization of women, I
would need to counteract the notions endowed onto us by society that lead people to believe that
prostitution is a fair system. Ethnomethodology, Symbolic interaction, and conflict theory have
contributed to the the false impression of sex workers endorsed by the mainstream.
Ethnomethodology is the study of everyday actions of people as an expression of their reality.
Every reality contains five features that describe how one s perspective is maintained and
occasionally transformed. In order to change the reality of people who believe that sex workers are
independently engaging in prostitution, I would need to address the five features of reality. The
first feature, reflexivity, states that reality is maintained by the process of absorbing interactions
and bending them to fit one s incorrigible

Projects Before Php Fog Essay
Projects Before PHP Fog
When I started PHP Fog, I did none of the steps that I would recommend now. Most of the time, I
didn t use a bank account or think about ideal customers. I just had an idea that I thought was a
good idea, and as a programmer, I started building the idea. I didn t validate if it was a good idea. I
thought, I want that, so it must be something people want, or I think that s clever, so I think I ll
build it, and other people will sign up for it. I would spend weeks or months doing this on the side
as my night project.
I would work on programming a project for a few weeks, and ninety percent of the time, I would
get bored and give up on it. Ten percent of the time, I would finish a project, launch it, and nobody
would sign up. Then I would give up on it. I did that for many years.
Finding a problem
The first time I did anything different was with PHP Fog. There was a cool platform called
Heroku, which was a service for developers to build apps easier. I started moving my own
applications to Heroku, which used applications programmed in Ruby on Rails. I had lots of Ruby
applications, so I said to myself, I m moving all of my stuff to Heroku, this is great!
Unfortunately, I also had PHP applications. At the time, Heroku didn t use PHP applications,
only Ruby. So then I said, Here s a problem: I want to move everything to Heroku, but I can t
because I have PHP applications. A light bulb went off in my head. Okay, PHP Fog, I said. I

Analysis Of Heidi Montag s Influence On Cosmetic Surgeries
The sense of dissatisfaction and the inability to achieve perfection has caused some individuals
to become physiological obsessed with and dependent on cosmetic surgeries. At times obtaining
dangerous measurements to achieve the desired perfect physique. Heidi Montag a celebrity
who underwent ten cosmetic surgeries in a single day, as a means of achieving the perfect
physique, is an example on how cultural ideals pressures individuals to conform to the current
beauty norms (Ugrina 2014, p.100). Another example is the Brazilian man called Romario Dos
Santos, who injected oil and alcohol into his biceps in order to look big like the other men at the
gym. The procedure of injecting synthetic filler was successful in enlarging the biceps, however
it almost cost his life as he tried to kill himself after developing depression and health problems
(Awford 2015). This is an extreme example, but it does demonstrate how men are also affected by
the ideals of the perfect physique. Studies have shown that body dissatisfaction of young men
increases when they see images of attractive muscular men (Blond 2008, p. 244). It can be also
noted how men are also choosing to undergo cosmetic surgeries to enhance their physical images as
well as worrying about aging and optioning to undergo surgerysuch as face lifts.
The constant awareness of ones look and the desire to fit into the ideals of perfect physique, not
only affects adults, but also children who from a young age are exposed to those

The Importance Of Word-Net-Use Clustering Performance
WordNet In (Bouras and Tsogkas, 2012), the importance of WordNet hypernymy relationships is
highlighted in enhancing K means clustering algorithm. Similar to the procedure prior to clustering
process, an aggregate hypernym graph is generated to label a resulting cluster. The effect of other
relationships, on the clustering performance, is not studied. Another Word Net based clustering
method is presented in (Fodeh et al., 2011), where the role of nouns, especially polysemous and
synonymous nouns in document clustering is investigated. A subset of core semantic features is
chosen from disambiguated nouns through an unsupervised information gain measure. These core
semantic features lead to admissible clustering results. The effect of... Show more content on

(Motazedi et al., 2009) and (Lesk, 1986) introduce a bilingual translation machine called
PEnTrans. A novel WSD method is proposed based on Lesk algorithm (Sarrafzadeh et al., 2011).
In order to English to Persian translation, gloss, synset and ancestors in the radius of two
hypernyms are extracted from WordNet, for each word s sense. Also the POS and WSD tags are
included (extracted from extended WordNet). The authors developed a bilingual dictionary by
translation WordNet senses into Persian. For Persian to English translation a combination of
knowledge, rule and corpus based approaches are utilized and also grammatical roles of words

List Factors Of Software And It Projects For Specific...
Current Research There has been extensive research carried out and articles written that list factors
of software and IT projects for specific countries. (Nasir, 2011) However, research shows that there
is a lack of concrete and aligned content specific to sustainable educational technology systems.
Researchon factors that lead to sustainable educational technology systems also lack deep or
targeted research. Alexander J. Romiszowski carried out the most closely aligned study, which
focused on factors leading to successful or failed educational technology innovation. However, in
this study, Romiszowski found that, many lists of critical factors were composed of opinions with
little supporting evidence by non practitioners. (Romiszowski, 2004) Throughout the research
process, there are number of indirectly related studies and literature that connect to sustainable
educational technology systems and factors that builds a foundation for future research.
In relation to sustainable educational technology, Beborah Lowther and a team researchers,
investigated the effectiveness of Tennessee EdTech Launch (TnETL), which was a technology
program development and implemented to meet technology standards set by the No Child Left
Behind Act (2008). The goal of the TnETL was to use trained full time technology coaches to help
teachers develop dynamic lesson that increased students a technology skills. (Lowther, Inan, Strahl

Low Carbs Research Paper
The diet you ve been doing is a popular low carb diet. Most of the food you have been intaking
while on the Atkins diet has a high level of protein. As you know, protein is good to build up
muscles, but you need other types of nutrients, too. Janine tried to tell you that the high amount of
nitrogen from protein can wreck your kidneys, but that isn t really true. You really should be
considering a more balanced diet, though. You see, if you don t consume enough carbs then you
won t have a supply of energythat your body regularly relies on. When you re out of carbs, your
body burns fats. You re skinny, so you won t have much of that to burn. Then you ll start to burn

Having low carbs could lead to a offset of electrolytes in your blood. WebMD.com told me that
this can have an effect on kidney function. Your kidneys probably won t take much affect from
your diet, but it could make things worse for your brain. You re brain needs carbs as energy and
without glucose, you could feel light headed and have a harder time thinking and remembering
things. Our bodies contain hormones that signal our body in different ways. There are two
main hormones that I m going to give you a quick lesson on to let you know how hormones can
have a play on weight gain/loss. Ever wonder how your body knows when you re hungry? Well,
a hormone called ghrelin (AKA the hunger hormone ) sends messages to our brain to tell us
when we are hungry. Lately, you ve kind of been ignoring ghrelin, so that s why you may have
felt a little grumpy while on your diet. The higher ghrelin level you have, the harder it is to resist
food. So fuel up once in a while to resist the urge to eat lots later, leading to weight gain. I got a lot
of information about these two hunger hormones on the WebMd website, I read an article called

Sellar s Myth of the Given
Many empiricists claim that there is a sort of knowledge that is directed towards our
consciousness and this knowledge is assumed to be the given. The given which is held in all of
us has access that is highly privileged and presupposes no learning and no prior form of
associations. It provides the foundation and first layer for empirical knowledge. The knowledge
that is gained through experience and pure reason. Empirical knowledge comes from observation. I
will argue in favor of Sellars rejection of the Given; that the Myth of the Given is truly untenable.
Wilfrid Sellars labeled the existence of such knowledge as the Myth of the Given. When calling
something a myth then that would mean that it does not exist at all. Sellars rejected all the
arguments that were in favor that were put forward in supporting the existence of the given and
claims that empirical knowledge, which has been dictated as rational and has no need for the
given. His position in disregarding the given has been constituted as the main focus of the
philosopher s career. Let s delve straight into why Sellars decided to dismiss the given.
Sellars rejected the idea that knowledge is given. The Myth of the Given plays on the notion that
knowledge is either basic or given . Here is an example: If you do not possess the concept of
something being blue then you cannot speak of. The true judgement that contains the term blue has
the ability to recognize something that looks blue, presupposes the

The Evolution Of The Accounting Profession
Discussion Board 1: Case 1 5: The Evolution of the Accounting Profession Throughout history the
accounting profession has seen continuous growth. It has even been discovered that an elaborate
accounting system was utilized as early as 8000 to 3000 B.C. (Schroeder, Clark, Cathey, 2014).
Humans have deemed it necessary for centuries to account for money and inventory items. In the
nineteenth century, the accounting profession took another major step forward when the joint
ventures evolved into corporations in England resulting in stockholders needing financial records
reflecting the companies performance (Schroeder et. al, 2014). This emergence of corporations
brought about the need for reporting on a periodic basis in order to allow owners and prospective
stockholders to evaluate the company to determine if their investments, or potential investments,
yielded a return (Schroeder et. al, 2014). The evolution of these corporations brought about the need
for accounting standards and laws that would that protect the investment of shareholders, require
that dividends be paid from net gains, and require that audits be conducted by people other than the
directors of the organization(s) (Schroeder et. al, 2014). These changes in the nineteenth century led
the charge in the development for accounting standards and laws that we still follow today, and they
are constantly evolving and improving in order to protect investors from scandal and fraud. The
latter part of the nineteenth

The trigonometric functions are functions of an angle. They relate the angles of a triangle to the
lengths of its sides. Trigonometric functions are important in the study of triangles and modeling
periodic phenomena, among many other application. Amplitude is half the distance between the
minimum and maximum values of the range of a periodic function with a bounded range. A graph

The History of Poliomyelitis Essay
Public awareness of and concern for persons with disabilities was virtually non existent until the
poliomyelitis epidemic during the mid twentieth century focused attention on the plight of disabled
Americans. As the epidemiology of the disease evolved, poliomyelitis, polio for short, evolved
from a disease of poor immigrants, living in crowded, filthy conditions to an affliction that struck
across the social strata affecting the middle and upper classes. Pervasive fear of polio and its
consequences coupled with the President of the United States, Franklin Delano Roosevelt s, public
struggle with the disease and its complications propelled the fight against polio and its associated

The onset of paralysis can be rapid, but the severity depends on the number of neurons affected.
There is no cure for the disease, and victims may be left with permanent consequences from their
illness. Post polio syndrome may affect polio survivors, even those with benign initial
manifestations, years after recovery from their initial insult. Although rarely life threatening, post
polio syndrome results in weakening of previously affected muscles causing significant interference
with the individual s ability to function independently. Polio in the United States: FDR, public

decreasing immunity. As the nation challenged itself to improve the living conditions for its

Comparing J. Gordon Edwards And Richard Burton
During the twentieth century, more than twelve directors tried their hand at interpreting one of
history s greatest love stories. Each had their own lense that they used to craft their movie into a
reflection of themselves, their culture, or the time period in which is was created. J. Gordon
Edwards s 1917 film starring Theda Bara was extremely lavish and very risque. The version
starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton is known for both their on and off screen romance.
Cecil B. Demilles version of the tragic story was at the height of Hollywood fashion, inspiring stars
and the average woman alike. However, below the surface of Claudette Colberts shimmering,
clinging wardrobe for the film lies another story entirely. The costumes in Cecil B. Demille s 1934
version of Cleopatra have influences and symbols rooted in ancient Egypt, but are most heavily
influenced by the art deco of the 1930s. This can be seen in many of her dresses throughout the
film, especially during her dinner with Marc Antony and her surrender to Octavian and the
Roman army. One example of this is in the slinky, gold lamГ© dress Claudette Colbert dons as
Cleopatra plots to poison Marc Antony. Not only does the figure hugging gown remind the
audience of her role as the temptress, but it echos strongly of the style of 1930s Hollywood. The
ruched front was style that became popular in 1930s. Several of Madeleine Vionnet s designs

Aspects Of Current Kikuyu Culture
Aspects of current Kikuyu culture were molded by modern demands impressed upon them by
British colonization. British colonists brought western ideas about living standards and health
care, as well as projecting British ideals of family life upon the Kikuyu people. In the 1950 s, as a
reaction to this imposition of western beliefs and practices upon the people of Kenya, the Mau Mau
began to fight the existing British infrastructure. This uprising was a final divide in the Kikuyutribe
based on the members desire to either adapt to modern customs or continue to try to live with their
old culture. In many ways, British colonization continues to have a lasting and substantial cultural
impact on the Kikuyu today.
To comprehend the effect that British colonization had on the Kikuyu people, first we have to
examine the pre colonial Kikuyu society. The ancestors of the Kikuyu participated in the Bantu
expansion, a millennia long phenomenon during which Bantu speaking peoples migrated from
Western Africa to various regions in Southern and Eastern Africa (The Bantu Migrations). Prior to
European intervention, the structure of Kikuyu society was relatively egalitarian. The people of
the Kikuyu did not practice slavery, and made no attempts to garner prisoners from neighboring
tribes or villages. The political structure of the Kikuyu tribe was divided among nine separate
clans. These clans were all related along maternal lines, and oftentimes lived in very close

Essay on Foreclosure Crisis In America
It is evident that the housing deficit is just a layer of the many problems we are suffering from
during the hard times in our economy. Foreclosure is indeed a horrific word that is haunting
homeowners across the US. Because of the situation in the current economy, millions of Americans
have been plagued by foreclosing on their homes and are left to find new location for themselves
and their families to live. Recently in Detroit, with the efforts to negate the current standings, they
provided housing aid. According to the housing statistic, the housing aid drew crowds in Detroit.

The problem is there is inevitably a lack of housing, due to homelessness and influx of people.
Without enough housing, the prices of the homes will be very expensive; however, if there is not a
balanced mix of luxury and affordable housing, those already living there will be forced to leave
because they will not be able to maintain taxes and other increases that will be tacked on to
housing expenses. In order to make this process a bit more feasible, New York created the
Inclusionary Zoning program. This program required that developers set aside a certain percentage
of units in a new development as affordable units. The issue with this zoning ordinance is that
although it was stated as a requirement the city kept it as a voluntary process. With the ordinance
being voluntary and developers with a capitalist mentality, many developers opted out of adhering
to the ordinance. Although the residents of New York may not be in the power broker or decision
making classification, many of its inhabitants have been there for many years. Unless there are
efforts to make this ordinance mandatory, there will be much opposition to keep new development
out.
There is by no means a simple solution to solving the home foreclosure epidemic but there are
many changes that can be made to help Americans across the globe. The first, I believe starts

Summary Of To A Louse By Robert Burns
Robert Burns wrote the poem To a Louse in 1786, in Scotland, that emphasizes the social
constructs of man and as well as man s vanity. Burns then goes on in further detail to explain the
artificial concept of social class and perspective of the individual in society. He does this by
describing one day sitting in church where he is behind gorgeous young noble woman while a louse
is crawling upon her silken bonnet. The lady is completely oblivious to the fact that the louse is
upon her bonnet while everyone sitting in the pews nearby point and wink with one another at the
appearance of the louse. Through this ridiculous and humorous poem Burns is highlighting the
vanity of human nature and the artificial construct of social classthrough his own eyes that he is
seeing in eighteenth century Scotland. In the poem, the reader finds Burns sitting in his pew in
church where he notices a louse, a small wingless insect sometimes called lice or fleas, crawling
upon the bonnet of a young and elegant lady in the seat in front of him. At this point in the poem
Burns is surprised that the louse would dare set his feet upon such a fine lady rather than that of
a beggar or vagabond in the streets, where a louse would normally be found. Here Burns then

End Humpback Whale Protection Essay
End Humpback Whale Protection Say Fisheries
Humpback whales would no longer be listed under the Endangered Species Act (www.fws.gov/laws
/lawsdigest/esact.html) if U.S. fisheries managers get what they want, which is to end humpback
whale protection. The group says that the whales are doing well now and don t face extinction like
they did when first put on the list.
Humpback whales now are on the list as being in danger all over the world, however, on Monday
a proposal was opened up to the public that seeks to end humpback whale protection in some areas
by putting the world s population of humpback whales into 14 groups having differing levels of
protection and taking 10 of those groups totally off the protected status.

If End Humpback Whale Protection, Laws Would Change
Getting rid of the protection the humpback whales now have would mean that ships and fishermen
could get by with hitting or killing a whale or producing too high of noise levels in certain
underwater areas. The changes to end humpback whale protection is being suggested due to the fact
that scientists claim there are now tens of thousands of humpbacks now vs. only a few thousand
back in the 70s when they were originally put on the Endangered list.
Since 1966, commercial hunting of whales has been prohibited by the International Whaling
Commission (iwc.int). However, some countries still hunt them, such as Japan, Norway and
Iceland, for instance, killing of these mammals is permitted for scientific research and a few more
are killed by Japanese in the Southern Ocean for blubber and their meat.
There have also still been humpbacks killed from things like getting tangled up in fishing
equipment, loss of habitat, harassment from whale watchers, and getting hit by

Colonial Empires Of The New World
Colonial Empires of the New World

November 9, 2015
4th Period Abstract
In my paper I will be discussing the different colonies in the new world. I will talk about the main
settlers in the new world including; the Europeans, the Spanish, the Dutch, the French. How these
settlers interact will be the main topic of my report. I will also discuss the effect these settlers had
on the Indians that lived in the territories they claimed.
Empires and Colonies in the New World The first foreign settlers that came to the new world
were the Spanish. Many countries seeked trade with Asia but had to go around the tip of Africa to
get there. In 1492 the king of Spain at the time King Ferdinand funded the voyage of a Christopher
Columbus to sail across the ocean to find a better rout than what was being currently used. While he
never set foot in North America he opened the door for English exploration.
By the time the English made it over to the new world the Spanish had already explored a lot of
North America and encountered three major groups of peoples; the Incans in present day Peru, and
the Mayans and Aztecs in present day Mexico and South America. With their exploration they
found wealth in the form of gold and silver. They brought guns, horses, and armor that made the
local peoples view them as gods. But along with foreign technologies they brought illness.
Smallpox, influenza, malaria, measles, typhus and syphilis were transported to the

focus and challenge in this company presents the attempted change of culture due to the possible
cost reduction on the base of technology. The main character in the movie, and one of the
employees who is very skilled and has a high level of power is very resistant to the change, which
has been proposed by the new comer in the company named Natalie. In contrast to The Devil Wears
Prada , Natalie is accepted into the team very easily and fits into the company culture perfectly.
Natalie matched with companies ideas, values and assumptions because she as a new worker

Confucian Analects And Ban Zhao s Lessons For A Woman
Though authored possibly centuries apart, the Confucian Analects and court historian Ban Zhao s
Lessons for a Woman have far more similarities than they do differences. The truth is that when
considered in the context of their societies, the two texts actually serve to complement each other,
and do so quite successfully. Technically written as instructions on maintaining order and progress
in government and society, the Analects are very widely directed (Bentley, Traditions and
Encounters, 101). While some of the text claims to be private conversations between Confuciusand
other men, the instructions and suggestions are universally applicable. As all of the teachings of
Confucius, the Analects are not meant to answer theological or spiritual... Show more content on

Ban Zhao begins her text utilizing a bit of her own advice. She humbles herself immediately in a
rather demeaning opening paragraph regarding her own educational background. The text
covers the three primary functions of women in ancient Chinese society: as unmarried
daughters, as wives and mothers, and their role in the preservation of spiritual matters. She
stresses the development of four womanly qualifications that include virtue, words, bearing and
work (Ban Zhao, Lessons for a Woman, 4). The basic virtues of women stem from (similarly to
the Analects) humility, and respect. A true quietness of spirit and mind, a lack of foolishness,
and an exhibit of modesty are required to demonstrate the true humility of a woman (Ban Zhao,
Lessons for a Woman, 4). She is also to possess a diligence in labor that surpasses those around
her; putting others always before herself. These traits are to be developed and displayed even
before marriage, as without them, how can her name be honored; how can [a woman] but bring
disgrace on herself? (Ban Zhao, Lessons for a Woman, 2). Humility is stressed at the foundation of

Literary Analysis Of Hercules Delivering Prometheus By...
Hercules Delivering Prometheus, a free standing French sculpture, now in the Art Gallery of
Ontario is cast in bronze by Francois Lespingola. This highly intricate bronze sculpture is an
example of French baroque art, which was created in between 1690 and 1705. The incredible
creativity of this composition and the audacity of its three dimensional conception included a
widely known scene from classic Greek mythology. A series of statuettes on the sculpturedepict a
display of Hercules freeing the chained Prometheus from an eagle that comes to pick his liver each
day. Lespingola promoted these effects in grouping multiple figures, optimizing the individual
prominence of each figure and integrating them into one concordant sculpture.

The mixture of realism and idealism allows the sculpture to stand and symbolize other figures at
the same time. These figures have a style of idealism especially the way Hercules and
Prometheus look. They are both very muscular. The muscles have defining curves, showing that
the body is flexed and in action. These ideal human forms also show that the symmetry is not
being equal, but the proportions of these individuals make a whole composition. Furthermore, the
male figures are more human than human. They are idealized in softer cravings with smaller
heads and the hair is very stylized. The movements of the male figures are emphasized in a
contrapposto position. Both are counterposed and weight is shifted on a feet. These shapes come
together and give the effect of how the real body looks like. Moreover, it suggests the figure s
characteristics. For example, Hercules s weight is on his right foot and left foot is placed as a
movement. The indication of his dynamic movement reflects his strong character. Prometheus s
kneeing contrapposto position along with his anxious expression gives an insight that he is
trembled with fear. The eagle s fierce eyes, sharp beak and its threatening gesture show a strong
determination of defeating Hercules. The artist inlaid eyes in all figures which helps to gain more
understanding of their emotions. In fact, the

Greek Architecture
The Greek culture has had a huge impact on the history of the world. There is something Greek
in almost everything, especially in the world s architecture. Greece no longer had one king, so
they focused on building temples for their gods. Architecture began small and plain but evolved
into impressive pieces of art. As time passed from the Archaic period to the Hellenistic period,
the people of Greece developed a type of formula for their buildings and their pieces of art. In
Ancient Greece, religion dominated their life, so it is understandable that their architecture would
be dominated by their religion. Before Greece became many different city states, they had kings,

They didn t want a column in the middle because than you would have to walk around the
column to get into the temple. The most common temples would be called hexastyle because it
would have six columns in the front. If there was four columns across then it would be called
tetrastyle or eight across would be called octastyle. Another way to classify a temple is how the
columns are distributed. When a temple only has a row of columns on the front and has end
walls, it is called in antis. If the temple has a row of columns on the front with no end walls, it is
called prostyle. If a temple has a front and back portico with columns, it is called amphiprostyle.
The most famous Greek temples would be considered to be peripteral, meaning that it has
columns all the way around the building. The Greeks had a certain formula on how many
columns would go on each side of a peripertal temple. They would take the number of columns in
the front portico and multiply it by two and add one. If your temple was hexastyle and peripertal,
than there would be thirteen columns on each side ( 6+6+1= 13). The Greeks had developed a
type of formula when it came to the construction of a temple. There is not a major difference in
architecture between the Archaic period and the Classical period. During the Archaic period they
began to use stone instead of wood. Some of the most preserved remains

Essay on Candide
CANDIDE

Voltaire
Throughout Candide the author, Voltaire, demonstrates the character s experiences in a cruel
world and his fight to gain happiness. In the beginning Candide expects to achieve happiness
without working for his goal and only taking the easy way out of all situations. However, by the
end of the book the character realized that to achieve happiness a lot of work, compromises, and
sacrifices are necessary.
Candide is a person of privilege who began life in the Castle of Westphalia. While a part of the

Candide begins to grow from a naГЇve young person into a grown realist. Cunegonde suddenly
leaves Candide for a wealthy man. The man s wealth, however, proves not to bring happiness to
either Cunegonde or Candide.
Candide realizes he must take responsibility for his life. He must accept situations and try to

curses of mankind: want, boredom, and vice. Candide realizes he must build his own life,
however simple it may be. When meeting a man that is happy with a simple garden to tend and
a family to love, Candide realizes life does not have to be full of wealth in order to be happy. He
realizes that everything in life is not evil, especially when a person strives to make changes and
not simply accept what comes their way. A reader of Candide should realize how accepting a
situation and not trying to charge or overcome its obstacles is only harmful. If a person does not
attempt to change a bad situation, then that person should be complain about the outcome. A

The Atomic Bombing Of Hiroshima And Nagasaki Essay
The atomic bombing of the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 is the most
controversial military decision in the history of Air Power, and may even be the most
controversial decision in history. The first of the bombings happened at Hiroshima, where the B
29 Superfortress Enola Gay dropped Little Boy, an Uranium based atomic bomb. Structural
damage estimates vary, with some sources claiming the blast and fires destroyed about 90% of the
city (History.com Staff Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki ) and some estimating a little more
than a third of the buildings were destroyed or severely damaged ( The Atomic Bombings of
Hiroshima and Nagasaki. ). Most sources estimate about a third of the population of the 300,000
person city died in the immediate explosion (Wright), with tens of thousands more dying in the
subsequent days as a result of wounds and radiation. The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki led
directly to the unconditional surrender of the Japanese Empire and the end of World War 2, and
indirectly caused the Cold War between the United States and the USSR. Initially, historians took
Churchill and Truman s justifications that the bomb was dropped to end the war quickly, and that
was the end of the argument. Throughout time, revisionists have challenged that notion and argued
that the bombs were not necessary for ending the war in Japan in a timely fashion, and it was
merely an unethical, immoral show of power to the Soviets at the expense of the Japanese

The Silkwood Movie Essay
Summary The Silkwood Movie is about a nuclear facility, and the lives of three people who
worked there. This movie is based off a true story, about the conditions and safety concerns for
the nuclear plants, back when the research was still lacking. The main problems in the movie, is
when it came to the health of the workers from the chemicals let off from the nuclear plant. The
three main characters are: Karen Silkwood (the main character), Drew Stevens (the boyfriend),
and Dolly Pelliker (the roommate). All of these characters worked in the nuclear plant and were
exposed to the plants poor safety conditions. Being exposed to the plutonium caused the main
character Karen Silkwood, to raise awareness of the health concerns to the workers, from the
exposure of plutonium. In an article by, Live Science, plutonium is explained as a radioactive
silver metal, that is a byproduct of the nuclear powerindustry ( sjkdfkljshd). Plutonium has also
been linked to causing cancer in people who were exposed to high levels of the chemical. Karen
s main focus was to get the Union on her side, because many of the workers already knew the
health risks and decided to ignore them. Most of the workers did care about their health, however;
they needed the job from working at the nuclear facility. Later Karen was exposed to high levels of
plutonium, but the causes of her death were unknown.

Group Identity Essay
A group identity gives a population a sense of belonging; it helps them to connect and interact
with like minded individuals, which leads to people feeling like they belong. One of the strongest
examples of this is through sports and its fans. People from all different walks of life come
together and identify with a sports organization and what it stands for. For sports organizations,
each individual team has its own different identity behind which fans are distinguished, new teams
are able to create their own cultures whether it s through an expansion team or a relocation, and

This has led to the Jets now having a MTV esque identity. On the other hand, the New York
Giants have a more established and respected identity compared to the Jets, leading to a
comparison of the Giants to the Jets as that of the relationship of an older brother to a younger
brother. With these differences between the cultures of the two teams, when a person decides to
become a fan of either one of these teams, they instantly associate themselves with these ideas
and take on the group identity of being a fan of the team. Additionally, as new teams are created
and teams are relocated, teams have the opportunity to create their own identity. One example of
this is the Brooklyn Nets, who rather than trying to establish their identity through excellent play
on the court, have been working hard to identify strongly with the borough of Brooklyn, giving
their fans the appearance of being true to Brooklyn. Brett Yormark, the chief executive of the
Brooklyn Nets said, We Brooklyn ized who we are, which I think is critical. The goal is to

representative of the culture that is prominent in Brooklyn. The newest example of a team choosing

Why Not To Jump In College
Could you imagine jumping off of a building or a cliff and managing to fly with only a
parachute? Just the thought of that happening screams extreme. The risks an athlete takes, the
skills and preparation needed for just one jump and the process itself is why BASE jumping is
considered an extreme sport. There are many motives as to why an athlete would put themselves
in such a bizarre position as to put their life on the line. Although many others and myself
included find these jumps incredibly risky, I can t judge them and say they are doing life wrong.
Instead of going life by the book, we should open our minds to some ideas that may not be so out

Quality Of Measures
This paper will highlight the information epidemiologists utilize to evaluate the quality of
measures used in research as well as provide reasons why the quality of measures are essential and
finally explain how epidemiologists ensure the measures used in research are of good quality.
a.What type of information do epidemiologists use to judge/evaluate the quality of their measures?
Tests for validity and reliability are the criteria mostly used by epidemiologists to judge the quality
of measures used in research. Reliability of the measure shows that when different observers use the
measure at different occasions, they will obtain similar test results (1). For example, a measure that
determines weight gain among male adults in Saskatoon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The standards of acceptable reliability which epidemiologists seeks to attain include internal
consistency exceeding 0.8 and stability measures greater than 0.5 (3), nevertheless, even if the
internal consistency of a measure is low, it is better the measure has high stability and content
validity.
Validity tests involve ensuring that the instrument is measuring what the epidemiologist intended
(4), validity has several components including content and construct validity. Validity of the
measure at minimum can be assessed subjectively by expert opinion of one or more experts in the
field of study, where experts review the measure to determine if the instrument appears to be
assessing the desired qualities (Face Validity) or determining whether the instrument samples all the
relevant content (Content Validity) (3).
Additionally, constructs are mini theories used to assist in developing a new or better instrument
in order to explain a broader range of findings or make more accurate predictions about a person s
behavior. Hence, when no other measures exist, the epidemiologist can link an attribute measured
to another attribute by a hypothesis or construct and test the instrument by applying it to a sample
to determine if the expected relationship is obtained; this is regarded as construct validity. For
example; if a test for blood sugar was devised because there is no other test

Orion Nebulae Research Paper
Nebulae inside the Milky Way Galaxy or separate, distant Galaxies?
Discoveries of what were termed nebulae began in the early 17th century. The first of these
discoveries was the Orion Nebula, which looked like a normal star to the naked eye. French scholar
Peiresc discovered it in 1610 using one of the first telescopes to be made. Later, in 1656, Christiaan
Huygens observed the interior of the Orion Nebula and determined that it consisted of a compact
quadruple star system instead of a singular star. During the 18th and 19th century, nebulas were
discovered even though astronomers were mainly scanning the sky for comets. Some major
astronomers who contributed greatly to the discovery of nebulas, among other things, during the
18th and 19th century were Messier and the Herschel family. Though the instrumentation available
to astronomers during the 18th and 19th century were highly advanced compared to earlier times,
they weren t advanced enough to detect the motion of extragalactic objects or their composition.
This lack of precision instrumentation, and thus the dissociation from motion of stars/star clusters

Diphtheria, Diphtheria And Respiratory Diphtheria
Introduction: Diphtheria used to be one of largest killers in the ancient world until a vaccine was
founded in the 1800 s. Diphtheria has declined for over the past 100 years. Diphtheria is in
coalition with tetanus and pertussis. For children under the age of eight, a combined vaccine of
diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis(Tdap) is given together ( Henri 2012).
History:
Diphtheria has been found as early as 1613 in Spain, and epidemics can still break out today. The
diphtheria vaccine was created in the 1920 s, but in 2011, 4,887 cases of diphtheria were recorded
(Henri, 2012). 10 percent of all children are vaccinated for diphtheria (Chen, 1985).
Type of diseases: Diphtheria consists of a single protein with a disulfide bond linking two fragments
(Henri, 2012). There are two types of diphtheria: clinical diphtheria and respiratory. Classical
respiratory diphtheria is characterized by the formation of a gray white pseudomembrane in the
throat that is firmly adherent (Wagner, 2012). Clinical diphtheria is caused by toxin producing
corynebacteria. Diphtheria is related to three species Corynebacterium diphtheriae, C. ulcerans, and
C. Pseudotuberculosis. Corynebacterium diphtheriae is common of potentially species and is
associated with epidemic diphtheria and person to person transmission. Corynebacterium
diphtheriae has four biovars: gravis, mitis, intermedius, and belfanti The rare Corynebacterium
ulcerans is associated with cattle or raw dairy products.

Dre alleged Detox album, this is probably the most demanded album in hip hop history that we ll
never receive. Andre has been vocal about not being inspired for a full length project, and hesitant
because of his view on being an older rapper. He says when he was 25, he never wanted to be
rapping at the age of 30. Now that he s in his 40 s, he feels as though he s too old in the eyes of
modern hip hop fans. Hip hop is one of the few genres that repeatedly disregard the older artists that
came before them.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He shows up for major acts like Frank Ocean, and is appeared on the new N.E.R.D. album with
Rollinem 7 s . Andre also appears to be keeping an ear out on the youth as he appeared on
Richmond rapper $ilk Money song Decemba . He clearly has the ability to write at the age of
42, but is he in a mental space to craft a 10 to 14 track album by himself? He has nothing that we
can compare to an Illmatic , Blueprint , or even a Good Kid Maad City . As a rap legend with
the star power he has, making fans wait over a decade for an album is setting himself up for
disappointment. In the social media era where people are able to give an instant reaction to
anything, a number of people today do not take the time to fully digest an album. If Andre focused

Winter Break Research Paper
During the winter break, I did a lot of things and I spent most of the time with my family and
friends. One of the things, I did during the break was to go meet my uncle in Hayward,
California. It was a very long drive but it was worth it. When we went there I met cousins who I
haven t seen for a long time. Then my cousins and I went to the mall to do some shopping. Then
on our way back from the mall, we went to theater to watch a movie. We spent our Christmasin
Hayward and I got a lot of presents. Then we came back to Bakersfield one day after Christmas.
Second thing, I did was that I went to go meet my elementary friend. She wanted me to come
over to her house. So I went to her house and we did a lot of stuff. First, we baked cupcakes and
cookies. Then we watched a movie and after that we played... Show more content on

We played musical chairs and many other games. I also read a book called Nory Ryan s Song by
Patricia Reilly Giff during the winter break. For New Year s my cousins from New York came
and we celebrated it in Bakersfield. When they came, my dad and I went to go pick them up
from the airport. On our way back from the airport, we stopped at In N Out Burger to get
something to eat. They stayed in Bakersfield for 5 days. We planned a party for the New Year s
which was pretty fun. One night we planned to stay awake the whole night just to see if we can
stay awake. But none of us stayed awake for the whole night. When all the days passed and they
had to leave, I was pretty sad that they were leaving. In the spare that I had in this break, I
watched T.V, listened to music, and read books. When there was only one days left of winter
break. I was sad because I didn t want to go to school. The day before our school started, my whole
family went to eat dinner at an Indian restaurant. So this winter break was really fun and I spent it
with my family and friends. These were some of the things I did over my winter

Persuasive Essay About Marijuana
Weed is addictive and is gateway drug. You shouldn t smoke it. This is a common misconception
about Marijuana that a variety of people believe. This is because they do not know the history
of it and what is in the Marijuana that makes it, what people say is addictive. They also probably
do not know that there are disadvantages and advantages of using Marijuana. At the end of the
day, it is really the choice of the user. But people should become more aware of where Marijuana
originated from, what it is made from and the pros and cons of smoking it if they choose to.

Marijuana is usually smoked through joints, which are hand rolled, but can be smoked out of a
bong, or pipe. The edible products are mostly made from weed butter and is then mixed with
cookie dough, brownie mix, or cake batter. So why do so many people think it is bad for us?
That s because the THC is what makes the Marijuana addictive . THC increases the level of
dopamine, which is the pleasure chemical, in the brain. Therefore, people who smoke a lot have a
higher chance of becoming dependant on the use of cannabis and then this dependency can turn into
an addiction.
Possibility of addiction is only one of the disadvantages on Marijuana. There are short term and
long term effects from the use of the drug. The most common short term effects include
paranoia, difficulty with concentration, anxiety, fatigue, and hallucinations. If you re not
around good people, you will end up having a bad experience and be very paranoid and anxious.
(Daily User One, 2017) This person said that the people you are around and your surroundings in
general can also alter how you react to the THC in your system. Other short term effects that are
more dangerous include increased heart rate (which is particularly dangerous to people with heart
disease), decreased blood pressure, and damaged blood vessels caused by the smoke. The long
term effects include memory loss, IQ level (due to blood cell lose from smoking), decreased
motivation, and ability

Because prostitution is ultimately seen as a consensual profession, some may interpret this information with indifference, believing that the sex workers were willing participants. More often than not, however, sex workers are being coerced into the industry by some form of force; leading them to be exploited for physical and economic gain. In order to convince someone that the prostitutionindustry influences the victimization of women, I would need to counteract the notions endowed onto us by society that lead people to believe that prostitution is a fair system. Ethnomethodology, Symbolic interaction, and conflict theory have contributed to the the false impression of sex workers endorsed by the mainstream. Ethnomethodology is the study of everyday actions of people as an expression of their reality. Every reality contains five features that describe how one s perspective is maintained and occasionally transformed. In order to change the reality of people who believe that sex workers are independently engaging in prostitution, I would need to address the five features of reality. The first feature, reflexivity, states that reality is maintained by the process of absorbing interactions and bending them to fit one s incorrigible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most of the time, I didn t use a bank account or think about ideal customers. I just had an idea that I thought was a good idea, and as a programmer, I started building the idea. I didn t validate if it was a good idea. I thought, I want that, so it must be something people want, or I think that s clever, so I think I ll build it, and other people will sign up for it. I would spend weeks or months doing this on the side as my night project. I would work on programming a project for a few weeks, and ninety percent of the time, I would get bored and give up on it. Ten percent of the time, I would finish a project, launch it, and nobody would sign up. Then I would give up on it. I did that for many years. Finding a problem The first time I did anything different was with PHP Fog. There was a cool platform called Heroku, which was a service for developers to build apps easier. I started moving my own applications to Heroku, which used applications programmed in Ruby on Rails. I had lots of Ruby applications, so I said to myself, I m moving all of my stuff to Heroku, this is great! Unfortunately, I also had PHP applications. At the time, Heroku didn t use PHP applications, only Ruby. So then I said, Here s a problem: I want to move everything to Heroku, but I can t because I have PHP applications. At times obtaining dangerous measurements to achieve the desired perfect physique. Heidi Montag a celebrity who underwent ten cosmetic surgeries in a single day, as a means of achieving the perfect physique, is an example on how cultural ideals pressures individuals to conform to the current beauty norms (Ugrina 2014, p.100). Another example is the Brazilian man called Romario Dos Santos, who injected oil and alcohol into his biceps in order to look big like the other men at the gym. The procedure of injecting synthetic filler was successful in enlarging the biceps, however it almost cost his life as he tried to kill himself after developing depression and health problems (Awford 2015). This is an extreme example, but it does demonstrate how men are also affected by the ideals of the perfect physique. Studies have shown that body dissatisfaction of young men increases when they see images of attractive muscular men (Blond 2008, p. 244). It can be also noted how men are also choosing to undergo cosmetic surgeries to enhance their physical images as well as worrying about aging and optioning to undergo surgerysuch as face lifts. Similar to the procedure prior to clustering process, an aggregate hypernym graph is generated to label a resulting cluster. The given which is held in all of us has access that is highly privileged and presupposes no learning and no prior form of associations. It provides the foundation and first layer for empirical knowledge. The knowledge that is gained through experience and pure reason. Empirical knowledge comes from observation. I will argue in favor of Sellars rejection of the Given; that the Myth of the Given is truly untenable. Wilfrid Sellars labeled the existence of such knowledge as the Myth of the Given. It has even been discovered that an elaborate accounting system was utilized as early as 8000 to 3000 B.C. (Schroeder, Clark, Cathey, 2014). Humans have deemed it necessary for centuries to account for money and inventory items. In the nineteenth century, the accounting profession took another major step forward when the joint ventures evolved into corporations in England resulting in stockholders needing financial records reflecting the companies performance (Schroeder et. al, 2014). This emergence of corporations brought about the need for reporting on a periodic basis in order to allow owners and prospective stockholders to evaluate the company to determine if their investments, or potential investments, yielded a return (Schroeder et. al, 2014). The evolution of these corporations brought about the need for accounting standards and laws that would that protect the investment of shareholders, require that dividends be paid from net gains, and require that audits be conducted by people other than the directors of the organization(s) (Schroeder et. al, 2014). Each had their own lense that they used to craft their movie into a reflection of themselves, their culture, or the time period in which is was created. J. Gordon Edwards s 1917 film starring Theda Bara was extremely lavish and very risque. The version starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton is known for both their on and off screen romance. Cecil B. Demilles version of the tragic story was at the height of Hollywood fashion, inspiring stars and the average woman alike. However, below the surface of Claudette Colberts shimmering, clinging wardrobe for the film lies another story entirely. The costumes in Cecil B. Demille s 1934 version of Cleopatra have influences and symbols rooted in ancient Egypt, but are most heavily influenced by the art deco of the 1930s. This can be seen in many of her dresses throughout the film, especially during her dinner with Marc Antony and her surrender to Octavian and the Roman army. One example of this is in the slinky, gold lamГ© dress Claudette Colbert dons as Cleopatra plots to poison Marc Antony. • 21. Summary Of To A Louse By Robert Burns Robert Burns wrote the poem To a Louse in 1786, in Scotland, that emphasizes the social constructs of man and as well as man s vanity. Burns then goes on in further detail to explain the artificial concept of social class and perspective of the individual in society. He does this by describing one day sitting in church where he is behind gorgeous young noble woman while a louse is crawling upon her silken bonnet. The lady is completely oblivious to the fact that the louse is upon her bonnet while everyone sitting in the pews nearby point and wink with one another at the appearance of the louse. Through this ridiculous and humorous poem Burns is highlighting the vanity of human nature and the artificial construct of social classthrough his own eyes that he is seeing in eighteenth century Scotland. In the poem, the reader finds Burns sitting in his pew in church where he notices a louse, a small wingless insect sometimes called lice or fleas, crawling upon the bonnet of a young and elegant lady in the seat in front of him. At this point in the poem Burns is surprised that the louse would dare set his feet upon such a fine lady rather than that of a beggar or vagabond in the streets, where a louse would normally be found. Here Burns then goes on to describe the louse as Detested, shunn d, by saunt (saint) an sinner and more usually associated with the likes of the lower class, such as beggars and slaves, and not the upper class from which the lady is from, according to The Bard: Robert Burns, a Biography by Robert Crawford. Burns then begins to admire the bravado and courage of the louse as he makes the trek up the noble lady s bonnet. Where Burns then turns his attention to the elegant lady whom he calls Jenny. Which he then tells her not to shake her head in an air of pride as she is completely unaware of the humorous effect that the sight of the louse has upon all of the people nearby. As Burns watches those around him take notice of this spectacle in front of him he wishes that the supreme power of God would give us the ability to see ourselves as others see us. I will also discuss the effect these settlers had on the Indians that lived in the territories they claimed. Empires and Colonies in the New World The first foreign settlers that came to the new world were the Spanish. Many countries seeked trade with Asia but had to go around the tip of Africa to get there. In 1492 the king of Spain at the time King Ferdinand funded the voyage of a Christopher Columbus to sail across the ocean to find a better rout than what was being currently used. While he never set foot in North America he opened the door for English exploration. By the time the English made it over to the new world the Spanish had already explored a lot of North America and encountered three major groups of peoples; the Incans in present day Peru, and the Mayans and Aztecs in present day Mexico and South America. With their exploration they found wealth in the form of gold and silver. They brought guns, horses, and armor that made the local peoples view them as gods. But along with foreign technologies they brought illness. Smallpox, influenza, malaria, measles, typhus and syphilis were transported to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Confucian Analects And Ban Zhao s Lessons For A Woman Though authored possibly centuries apart, the Confucian Analects and court historian Ban Zhao s Lessons for a Woman have far more similarities than they do differences. The truth is that when considered in the context of their societies, the two texts actually serve to complement each other, and do so quite successfully. Technically written as instructions on maintaining order and progress in government and society, the Analects are very widely directed (Bentley, Traditions and Encounters, 101). Ban Zhao begins her text utilizing a bit of her own advice. She humbles herself immediately in a rather demeaning opening paragraph regarding her own educational background. The text covers the three primary functions of women in ancient Chinese society: as unmarried daughters, as wives and mothers, and their role in the preservation of spiritual matters. She stresses the development of four womanly qualifications that include virtue, words, bearing and work (Ban Zhao, Lessons for a Woman, 4). The basic virtues of women stem from (similarly to the Analects) humility, and respect. A true quietness of spirit and mind, a lack of foolishness, and an exhibit of modesty are required to demonstrate the true humility of a woman (Ban Zhao, Lessons for a Woman, 4). She is also to possess a diligence in labor that surpasses those around her; putting others always before herself. • 31. The Atomic Bombing Of Hiroshima And Nagasaki Essay The atomic bombing of the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 is the most controversial military decision in the history of Air Power, and may even be the most controversial decision in history. The first of the bombings happened at Hiroshima, where the B 29 Superfortress Enola Gay dropped Little Boy, an Uranium based atomic bomb. Structural damage estimates vary, with some sources claiming the blast and fires destroyed about 90% of the city (History.com Staff Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki ) and some estimating a little more than a third of the buildings were destroyed or severely damaged ( The Atomic Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. ). Most sources estimate about a third of the population of the 300,000 person city died in the immediate explosion (Wright), with tens of thousands more dying in the subsequent days as a result of wounds and radiation. The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki led directly to the unconditional surrender of the Japanese Empire and the end of World War 2, and indirectly caused the Cold War between the United States and the USSR. Initially, historians took Churchill and Truman s justifications that the bomb was dropped to end the war quickly, and that was the end of the argument. Throughout time, revisionists have challenged that notion and argued that the bombs were not necessary for ending the war in Japan in a timely fashion, and it was merely an unethical, immoral show of power to the Soviets at the expense of the Japanese ... Tests for validity and reliability are the criteria mostly used by epidemiologists to judge the quality of measures used in research. Validity tests involve ensuring that the instrument is measuring what the epidemiologist intended (4), validity has several components including content and construct validity. Validity of the measure at minimum can be assessed subjectively by expert opinion of one or more experts in the field of study, where experts review the measure to determine if the instrument appears to be assessing the desired qualities (Face Validity) or determining whether the instrument samples all the relevant content (Content Validity) (3). Additionally, constructs are mini theories used to assist in developing a new or better instrument in order to explain a broader range of findings or make more accurate predictions about a person s behavior. Hence, when no other measures exist, the epidemiologist can link an attribute measured to another attribute by a hypothesis or construct and test the instrument by applying it to a sample to determine if the expected relationship is obtained; this is regarded as construct validity. The first of these discoveries was the Orion Nebula, which looked like a normal star to the naked eye. French scholar Peiresc discovered it in 1610 using one of the first telescopes to be made. Later, in 1656, Christiaan Huygens observed the interior of the Orion Nebula and determined that it consisted of a compact quadruple star system instead of a singular star.
