The At The Statesboro Main Street Farmers Market From
10
On September 3, 2016, I was given the opportunity to serve at The Statesboro Main
Street Farmers Market from 10:00am until 1:00pm. This event is open to the
public from April to November every Saturday from 9:30am 12:30pm beside the
Bulloch County Courthouse and Sea Island Bank. Here you will find many local
vendors selling their own produce. This event is not limited to produce as you will
also find locals selling jewelry, baked goods, crafts, and my personal favorite, coffee.
Some locally owned stores other than farmers bring their business to the marketsuch
as Three Tree Coffee Roasters, Sugar Magnolia, Cork s Kettle Corn, B G Honey
Farm, etc. With a small town feel, this charming location is perfect for the venue at
hand.
What was your role at the event?
Upon arrival, I went to the information vendor located in the middle of the Farmers
Market where I was greeted by other volunteers and Melanie Sparrow, who told me
my responsibilites for the upcoming hours. My first duty was to hand out various
advertisements for the upcoming GreenFest which will be held October 1st, 2016,
across the street from the Farmers Market. The GreenFest is held by Georgia
Southern s Center for Sustainability. The goal of this event is to teach people about
green living and what it entails. Much like the Farmers Market, there will be live
music, vendors, and workshops. Aside from passing out ads, I also helped keep
attendance of everyone in the market by taking a count every 30 minutes or so.
Analysis Of The Movie The Woman Of Black
On the 31st of March we watched the Woman in Black at the Fortune theatre in
London, as part of our unit two assessment. The play is about Arthur Kipps who
tells the gripping story of the terrible events he survived when he encountered the
woman in black. He learns about the death of Mrs Drablow and travels to the town
of Crythin Gifford. Here he meets many petrified faces, too scared to about the
womanin black. Through the story of Mr Kipps we learn that a woman named
Jennet Humfrye had a child unmarried and was forced to leave her child with her
sister Mrs Drablow, years later Jennet plans to run away with her son but before
she able to, the tragic event of his death occurs. Due to the unbearable grief Jennet
suffers from a terrible wasting disease leading to her death. Instantly after her death
she returns as the Woman in Black and haunts the people of the town who are too
afraid to speak of her name. After hearing this story he leaves the town, many years
later after getting married and having a child he thinks he sees the woman in black
again and on that day Mr Kipps wife Stella and child die.
Setting
The performance began with the props of a stool, chair, basket and a coat rack. The
use of the minimal set allowed the audience to focus on the action taking place on
stage and storyline, rather than the distractions of the set. Instead of using different
scenery, a gauze was used. This was effective as it meant that the scenery would not
keep moving, therefore the
Minimal Dismissals Examples
Minimal dismissals, one hundred percent completed hours, and lowest possible
unexcused absences. These are my three goals for our chapter of NJHS if I am
elected into the office position I seek. First, minimal dismissals of officers because
it is our duty to set an example for others and we can t do that if our members are
getting into trouble and have to be dismissed. Also, one hundred percent completed
hours because if there are any members who have not completed their hours that
means that they have not helped our community, which means our chapter has not
helped the community when it is in need. Finally, lowest possible unexcused
absences because we want our officers to be there for our community, but I know
that sometimes you just can t contact whoever is in charge when something pops up
because it is too late. In the end, if I am elected President of NJHS, 3 goals that we
can reach as a chapter are minimal dismissals, one hundred percent completed hours,
and lowest possible unexcused absences.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe, that our chapter can have a minimal amount of dismissals this year, with
5 being the max amount that can be tolerated. Our chapter is made up of an
amazing group of students, some I have gotten to know, and some I will know
later in the year, that can be role models and not get into any trouble that will lead
to dismissal. Our students at MTMS are great people, with only a small fraction
getting in trouble, and none of our members are in that small fraction, but they are
the people that would help out that small fraction become the best they can be and
decrease the size of the fraction. In conclusion, our chapter is made up of amazing
scholars and none of them will be dismissed this year, at least that is the goal so

C 129 s 60 or so graduates were staying put right there in Orlando, off to attend one
of the many schools hosted by the adjacent command, Naval Training Center. The
rest of us, along with the females in our sister company boarded one of the six

All the rest of our uniforms, essentially everything we owned, was stuffed in one
sea bag. We spent a lot of time in boot camp learning how to properly fold our
clothes, and I m sure the only reason was to ensure everything fit into that inelastic
cylinder of green canvas. Once filled with our dress whites, dress blues, working

the eight hour bus ride reminiscing about the eight weeks we just spent together and
arrived at our destination at around 6 o clock in the evening. Not all of us were
there to attend EW school. Some were future Cryptologists, some were going to be
taken down the road to attend air crew school at the Naval Air Station, and one
was heading to the Instrumentman school where he was going to learn how to fix
gauges and clocks and things. We were met by a Chief Petty Officer and an EW

Red Deer Research Paper
Originally introduced in New Zealand in 1861, Red Deer (Cervus elaphus), were
released for sport. By 1910, it was clear to natives that the deer were creating a
negative impact on the environment. Feeding areas were becoming bare and there
was flooding due to the loss of soil from erosion (Drew). Animals that are introduced
to their non native environments and cause harm are known as invasive species. In
addition to New Zealand, this invasive species has also been introduced to North and
South America and Australia, causing similar damaging effects.
Red Deer are originally from Eurasia, belonging in the temperate grassland biome.
The ecosystems the Red Deer would typically be found in are forests, mountain
ridges, or open grasslands. Red Deer

An Analysis Of George Gershwin s An American Folk Opera
An American Folk Opera. George Gershwin s most successful piece of expansive
musical drama was subtitled with this term that no musician or critic had applied to
a work of musical drama before the 1935 premiere of Porgy and Bess. Much has
been written about the work s subtitle; its literal meaning, its evolution, and its
implications for a changing cultural landscape. Porgy and Besswas the last in a
triptych of literature and theater surrounding the character of Porgy, a crippled
beggar living in Charleston s semi fictitious Catfish Row. Porgy, the 1925 novel
written by white author DuBose Heyward, was the original. The novel received
mixed reviews; white critics praised Heyward s vivid descriptions of the life of the

Dvorak s Symphony No. 9, From the New World was based upon spirituals and
plantation song from the South. Bartok s Ten Easy Pieces for piano were heavily
influenced by folk melody [that was] a kind of inspirational motto to be developed.
Gershwin understood there to be a need for a truly American voice in music,
comparable to those of the great nationalist European composers, recognizing that
The only kinds of music which endure are those which possess form in the universal
sense and folk music. All else dies.
Similar to Dvorak in his ninth symphony, the idiom that Gershwin employed for his
opera was that of the Negro spiritual and folk song. Before composing Porgy and
Bess, Gershwin made a trek down to Charleston, South Carolina and some of its
outlying island communities with the purpose of studying rural African American
culture. It was there that he became immersed in the music of that community and it
was there that he garnered his inspiration for the opera s score. Again harkening to
the traditions of the European masters, Gershwin decided against the note for note
transcription of the songs he had heard, but rather used them as inspiration for a
continuous musical narrative of folk inspired themes. Thus, we arrive at the term
folk opera. Gershwin s use of African American folk material in the composition of
an opera gave rise to the literal terminology
My Critical Evaluation Of Various Components
The reflective essay will pertain to chapter 8 and my critical evaluation of various
components in this chapter. Attention is different for everyone, so ideally we all
have things we play closer attention too. When I m out and I see people who wear
pink or have sparkles I tend to pay more attention that area. I also get distracted
very easily so if I am out and about and there is commotion going on I ll stop to see
what all the fuss is about. My own selective attentiondeals with movements, sparkly
and pink objects. If any of those apply my retina will process that for me. What
types of things do you pay close attention too? Selective attention makes me think
of being at a party or some type of gathering where you don t really know anyone. I
usually make saccades of the environment. If I see someone I know or looks
familiar I will remain fixated for a couple seconds than look away. At that moment I
try and process how I recognize them. When I first saw the term dichotic listening this
is what came to mind. Whisper down the alley is what popped up in my brain. I
learned this game in elementary school where one person whispers a message into
your and you pass it on to the next person. Sometimes there were two messages that
were started in both directions, than passed to each individual participating. Whiter
it is one message or two the whole point was to see if the message in the end
matched the original message. In most cases it did not, do too how we hear the
message is
Lowell s Theories On Extraterrestrial Life And Canals On...
Introduction
Percival Lowell s theories considering extraterrestrial life on Mars creates a great
deal of controversy; whether or not the general public and the science community
should recognize him for his achievements. Lowell s novels regarding
extraterrestrial life and canals on Mars would evoke the public s attention. Which
would cause the red planet to be under debate whether or not there is proof that
contemporary life does exist on Mars. This debate would also begin to question
Lowell s validity as a professional astronomer. Since his theories had no factual proof
or evidence, it was natural to question his knowledge of astronomy. Percival Lowell s
hypotheses in subject to extraterrestrial life, canals and vegetation on the planet Mars
erroneously praises Lowell for his achievements in astronomy. Although most readers
of eighteenth century astronomy and science fiction argue that, Lowell was a valid
astronomer and that his theories set the debate of extraterrestrial life in motion.
Closer examination shows that Lowell s was delusional and his assumptions would
benefit science fiction more than actual science. The importance of understanding
Lowell s accusations in astronomy is to encourage confirmation of aberration of Mars
and extraterrestrial life.
2. Examination Of Percival Lowell
It is important to give context of Percival Lowell, because his personality and
circumstances shape his thesis on extraterrestrial life on Mars. Lowell was no

Goals of the Progressive Era Essay
The term Progressivism implies a philosophy that promotes change/reform in the
current political, economic, and social aspects of society while conservatism
stresses gradual change in society but promotes tradition rather than change. The
Progressive movement from 1901 to 1917 worked to improve aspects of society
that grew out of problems which occurred during the Industrial Age. The goals of
the Progressives were to stop monopolies, corruption, inefficiency and social
injustices. Both progressive acts and amendments were being passed to deal with
social ills, corruption in politics and corporate America. The period from 1901 1917
was more a victory for liberalism, mainly modern liberalism , than a triumph of
conservatism due to the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through busting the bad trusts Theodore attempted to stop monopolies from
forming. This is an example of government intervention to remedy the effects of
capitalism and a liberal practice. He also started the progressive or the Bull Moose
party. Clearly, these reform movements as well as the busting of trusts move away
from the traditional aspect of politics and promotes autonomy of the individual as
well as strong government to remedy the defects of capitalism, both liberal ideals.
Furthermore, economics also played a key role in describing whether liberalism or
conservatism triumphed in this era. President William Howard Taftencouraged a
policy known as Dollar Diplomacy where the United States invested in foreign
countries in order to gain power. This dollar diplomacy would make money for as
well strengthen the US. Later Taft went on to become more of a trust buster than
Roosevelt. His most noteworthy bust was the Standard Oil Company, one of the
largest trusts of the time, which was ordered to be broken into smaller companies in
1911. He then went on to attack another one of the largest trusts, The US Steel
company which Roosevelt had allowed to survive since he deemed it as a good
trust. Roosevelt became furious as Taft when he heard of this. Taft then passed the
Payne Aldrich bill which he unwisely named the best bill that the Republican Party
ever passed which split the Republican Party into old school/more

Throughout the entire book, different expressions of love are shown through the
soldiers actions, either toward a girl, families, friends, or even themselves. The
reader can witness the romantic story between Lieutenant Jimmy Cross and
Martha as described by O brien. Reading between the lines one can name their
relationship as convenient rather than romantic. Although they seemed to love
each other, the reality is that they loved the idea of having each other. Cross liked
the fact of having Martha because she was his source of power to keep fighting,
his reason to survive. He wanted to feel that staying alive will have its reward. On
the other hand, the author of the book also centred on the relationship between two
of the soldiers. Their friendship was so strong because they loved andrespected
each other. Another kind of love is the one that the author hiself expressed while
taking the decision on the river. The reason why he was running away to Canada
was because he loved his ideals. However, he decided to go back because he loved
his family and his country more and felt ashamed for betraying them as he stated, I
would go to war I would kill and maybe die because I was embarrassed not to (O

farming the crops. All these things have to be done to keep my family alive for as
long as I can. As I am walking out of the house to go to the market, I see many
nobles following our handsome Lord Joshua. I tell my kids to stay at home and do
their chores. But they were crying because they knew their dad was getting worse
and going to die soon. I walk up the hill to the market and I see a HELP WANTED
sign. I wondered if I could finally get a job and earn money no matter the amount.
But right as I walked up, they automatically said no because they were looking for
a man who apparently could work more efficiently. I bought only the food I needed
and left the market without asking about the job. As I was reaching the house at a
distance I thought I saw my husband up and playing with the kids. But to my
surprise it was Lord Joshua. Good morning. your kids looked upset so I thought I
could play a game to cheer them up and I helped your husband too, he cautiously
announced like if he thought I was going to attack him. I wasn t sure what he was
up to or if he just felt bad for us. I told him thank you and told him that I could take

sameness made legal. (pg5/6 par.14) This statement shows him using ethos by
using person of authority and credibility to the people who written the laws. King
explains to the clergymen that there are four basic steps for any nonviolent

nonviolent campaign shows that Birmingham is one of the most segregated cities
in the United States. King also explains to the clergymen that he is an extremist
and is proud of it. To show that he is, he uses repetition to develop it. He writes
Was not Jesus an extremist in Love? Was not Paul an extremist for the gospel of
Jesus Christ? Was not Martin Luther an extremist (pg.9 par.23)? He uses all of these
rhetorical devices to show why he is in the Birmingham Jail and to fight for the

Nature versus Nurture
During the ages of early childhood, particularly from birth till elementary school, a
child requires the utmost care and attention possible. Quite literally, a baby is born
in the world as a seed and needs nothing more than unconditional nurturing in order
to grow and develop at a steady pace. In the case of psychiatrist Bruce Perry s The
Coldest Heart , Leon is a teenager who comes from a tight knit, affectionate family
yet unlike his older brother Frank, Leon was never exposed to such care and
attention. Instead, he spent his childhood in a state of neglect and darkness an
apparent yet uncalled for trigger to his juvenile, criminal behavior that shaped him
to become what Dr. Perry considers being a classic sociopath (Perry, 114). In a
small family with an innocent and conservative mother, a hardworking father, and
an older brother to idolize, it would best be assumed that the child would turn out to
be a mellow, genuine person. Yet with Leon the situation was a complete
turnaround. Rather than an outgoing, socially savvy boy he grows up to become an
anti social, problematic teen. Why? An automatic response would be to blame the
parents. Did they do something wrong in raising him? With her first son Leon s
mother Maria had an entire network of support in helping raise Frank. A whole
family of women stepped forward and took over handling the newborn whenever
Maria desired. The striking difference between the childhoods of her two sons is
reflected in the child

owners earn money off from creating applications like Google Doc. The more
applications Google create the more money they earn. Recently the world has been
depending on IT in their entire life. People now would rather work on a fully online

The Principles Of The Triple Bottom Line Principles
Triple Bottom Line Principles The triple bottom line principles are terms which
layout the areas that a firm needs to satisfy in order to successfully address its goal
and become corporately sustainable. A company that fits into all triple bottom line
principles should be socially responsible, profitable and environmentally
conscientious. All three areas are equally important and should complement one
another. A company needs to be environmentally responsible in order to lower their
carbon footprint and maintain their working areas in good conditions. Also, they
need to be socially responsible in order to create a nurturing community that engages
and retains their stakeholders. Finally, a company needs to be profitable for it to

Firms should constantly be adapting their way of addressing each TBL principles
in order to satisfy their clients. A sustainable company needs to fulfill all three
bottom line principles, no matter in which market it is located. Usually successful
firms try to maintain equilibrium and put the same amount of effort into all three
pillars. FedEx is an example of a firm that equitably focuses on the profit, the
environment and the stakeholder s. This American courier company has rapidly
expanded since it was created in 1971, in order to become a globally well known
firm. This firm tries to give the same level of importance to every single triple bottom
line pillar. Primarily, they always try to maintain their employees satisfied in order to
reach a higher level of employee loyalty and engagement. An example of their
outstanding performance in this sector of the company was in January 12, 2010
when an earthquake practically destroyed Haiti. When this catastrophe happened, the
American carrier company sent over one million pounds of supplies and medicine in
support for the ill Haitian citizens. Additionally, they sent thirteen helicopter charters

Grudge Poem Theme
A poem has the potential to capture a large varied audience. It can communicate a
multitude of feelings and can highlight struggles in our humanity. Roberts and Zweig
when describing poetry state the more experience you have with poetry the more you
will develop your own ideas and definitions of just what poetryis (642). Readers of
poetry will argue extensively over poetic devices and themes because poetry evokes
such strong emotions and ownership. As I read the Jeffrey McDaniel s poem The
Grudge there was little doubt in my mind that his purpose was a truthful look at the
struggle of resentment. A poet may use several poetic devices to communicate his
theme. Each reader recognizes the devices that become important to their
understanding... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the poem The Grudge sight or visual imagery is crucial to explaining the theme
of the poem. As I previously explained the visual imagery that I noticed in the
poem helped me to come to an overall theme of the poem. McDaniel s uses visual
cues like devotion to describe an extreme idea a person is willing to sacrifice for
(2). The speaker is using this visual cue to explain that when he waters his grudge it
is not the same thing as someone who follows their theology with complete abandon.
Another visual cue that explains the theme is when McDaniel s uses the word
bloomed (14). This visual cue is used to describe the actual moment when his hatred
has consumed him. At this point there is no denying that the speaker has taken his
grudge to the extreme and there is no coming back. From the beginning of the poem
when he is defensive and drawing comparisons between him and other characters to
the end when the truth of his actions are revealed the visual images help to draw the
reader in. This poetic technique of visual imagery was crucial when formulating my
conclusion regarding the theme of this
Pros And Cons Of Rights For Prisoners
Whenever an inmate gets incarcerated or is found guilty for a conviction, many of
their rights go away except for a select few. The few rights that prisoners get to
keep are, but are not limited to, visitation rights, mail services, religious gatherings
and studies, medical treatment and care, and access to courts and legal assistance.
These services help inmates stay in touch with society and help inmates get treated
fairly throughout the facility (Santillan, 2010). In 1969, there were approximately
300,000 people incarcerated in federal, state, and county jails or prisons. Today that
number surpasses 2.4 million and to add to it, there are approximately 4 million
under parole or probation (People s Law Office).
There can be pros and cons to prisoner rights. Some of the pros are attention drawn to
physical and psychological issues of inmates, environmental conditions, and medical
needs (Santillan, 2010). A con would be the security and safety of the prison
(Santillan, 2010). Contraband could be brought into the prison facility during
visitation or throughout the mail service. Also, prison mail could contain secret
coded escape plans. Prison mail can be read but not censored (Santillan, 2010). Even
though there are benefits and costs, prisoners have rights and will continue to have
rights. Inmates have basic rights awarded to them while incarcerated. Inmates in
different security level prisons are allowed visitation rights. Visitation is not a new
process; prison visitation
The Basketball Court
What Happened On the Basketball Court The best way to cheer yourself up is to
try to cheer somebody else up. This quote is written by Mark Twain, an American
writer, entrepreneur, publisher, and lecturer. This quote is telling us that if you
make someone feel good you will too. This quote is a great example of what
happened to me in 2nd grade. This quote a great example of what changed my life
and is now what I do everyday. It was January 8, 2012. I was In my house playing
on the computer and my mom was on the phone with my dad saying Should I tell
them now, or when you get home. I could not hear my dad. My mom said, Ok, ok,
I understand. She hung up the phone and then said, Boys come here for a second.
We all sprinted with a smile stretching across our faces thinking she had good news.
I put my hands out as I tri on my brothers shoe and fell over and caught my fall. It
felt like minutes until I finally got there with the biggest smile I have ever made I
my life. Then my mom sighed, Boys I have some news. Right as she said that my
smile slowly started to vanish. Then the worst possible thing at that moment
happened. My mom said, We re moving. It was Monday January 14, 2012. My two
brothers and I were being guided to our classes. As the bell rang I leaped witch felt
like I was 5ft high. My palms were sweaty as can be. I was so nervous that I forgot
how to walk. But, again I was only In 2nd grade. We finally got too my class.
Everyone was whispering to each other.
The Ethics Of The Pharmaceutical Industry
After a careful analysis of the two firms I had throughout the semester, it is most
certainly possible to arrive at a solid conclusion about their performances. This very
information is initially extracted from the given companies financial statements. The
two companies, in this case, are specifically Gilead Sciences, Inc. and Merck Co.,
Inc. Both firms are comparatively popular within their respected health fields, ranking
high among a plethora of drug companies. It is universally held that prescription drug
sales generate staggering revenues. This all occurs while the litigation climate for the
pharmaceutical industry has become increasingly challenging as media reports of
huge company profits, fast tracked FDA approvals, product... Show more content on

Merck s efforts of receiving money from its customers are arguably better, since
Gilead s accounts receivables are growing. On a similar note, Merck Co. has an
inventory turnover that is three times higher than Gilead Sciences. Although
Merck is converting its inventory more rapidly, the investment in inventories for
both companies is increasing. Things start to take a slight turn pending on how
either company resource its inputs into cash flows. There is a ratio of 5.72 to
3.03, in favor of Gilead Sciences. The cash positions and investments in fixed
assets within both firms are gradually rising. Merck is managing its assets more
efficiently than Gilead, but Gilead s use of long term debt is decreasing. Over a
two year period, significant changes with stockholder s investment have been
reported. Stockholder s investment with Gilead Sciences has increased 71%,
while Merck s stockholder s investment has steadily decreased by 8%. In the same
two year period, the dollar amount for Gilead Sciences operating expenses has
increased by $1,348,053. Conversely, the dollar amount for Merck s operating
expenses has decreased by $2,308,000. Since accounting is respectively speaking a
mirror; with operating expenses, there will be operating revenues. The same trend
applies for both companies, meaning as Gilead Sciences operating revenues continued
upwards, Merck Co. s went down. Market capitalization
Dunlap V. Tennessee Valley Authority Essay
Dunlap v. Tennessee Valley Authority
Joyce Harrison
Business Employment Law
May 11, 2011
1. What were the legal issues in this case? The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth
Circuit was to determine if the plaintiff, David Dunlap Dunlap, had met the burden of
proof that the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) was liable under Title VII of the
Civil Rights Act of 1964 by intentionally discriminating against him under both
disparate impact and disparate treatment analyses and whether the TVA appealto the
District Court erred in each of these analyses could be legally supported to reverse
their decision FindLaw, 2011). David Dunlap brought suit under Title VII, alleging
racial discrimination by the TVA.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3. Explain why the plaintiff s disparate treatment claim succeeded.
The disparate treatment doctrine requires a plaintiff to demonstrate that an employer
has treated some people less favorably than others because of their race, color,
religion, sex, or national origin. Three provisions required to prove disparate
treatment are (1) the plaintiff must establish a prima facie case of racial
discrimination; (2) the employer must articulate some legitimate, nondiscriminatory
reason for its actions, and (3) the plaintiff must prove that the stated reason was in
fact pretextual. Proof of discriminatory motive is critical and may be inferred from
the mere fact of differences in treatment. Proof may also be inferred from the falsity
of the employer s explanation for the treatment, (Walsh, 2010).
Mr. Dunlap successfully established a prima facie case of disparate treatment by
meeting the above 3 provisions; (1) he was African American; (2) he was qualified
for the position sought; and (3) white applicants with less experience were hired
for 9 of the 10 open jobs. TVA attempted to rebut his claim by offering the selection
matrix used during his interview as evidence to prove that he didn t rank as one of
the top 10 applicants due to his interview scores. However, Mr. Dunlap was able to
refute TVA s claim by demonstrating that his matrix score was manipulated to keep
him out of top 10, thus proving it was merely a
The Iranian Hostage Crisis Of 1979
The Iranian Hostage Crisis of 1979 was an event that profoundly impacted Western
Iranian relations, to the extent that its residual effects still linger today. Iran s
revolution of 1979 resulted in a regime change that saw U.S. supported Mohammed
Reza Shah Pahlavi toppled by the formerly exiled Ayotollah Khomeini, who promptly
instated a strongly anti Western regime that established itself as ideologically in
direct opposition to many Western values. This anti Western, and particularly anti
American sentiment was common amongst many Iranians due to their resentment of
U.S. support for Shah Pahlavi and his oppressive and unsatisfactory regime. This
resentment was markedly exhibited to the international community with the seizure
of the American Embassy in Tehran by Khomeini supporting Islamist students, who
took 66 Americans hostage. Since the Western realm is held together by shared
values and sense of community, amongst other features, and Khomeini s Iranhad
proven itself to be not only an ideological threat to Westerners, but a security one as
well as exemplified by the hostage taking, Canadaswiftly worked bilaterally to defend
its realm by sheltering 6 American diplomats in the home of Canadian Ambssador
Ken Taylor, and covertly aiding the C.I.A. in the hostages extraction . Canada s role
in the hostage crisis internationally reinforced its loyalty to the Western realm, and in
particular, its strong bilateral relationship with the United States. This paper will
First Person Narrative Research
First person narrative research is a term that uses a group of approaches that in turn
depend on spoken words, written works or pictures/drawings of people. These
approaches tend to focus on the lives of individuals as told through their own stories.
The importance and focus within such approaches is in the narrative, usually based on
both what and how it is narrated. The audience validates narrative research. Being
a very useful tool and all, narrative method may not always be strong enough to
stand alone as a central piece of evidence in concluding a point. Regardless if it is
part of a presentation or whether it is a stand alone piece of information, it must be
accepted, based on its own merits as an individual experienceand... Show more

The narrative method allows for an intimate look into the emotions, thoughts and
experiences within a story based on the fact that another has witnessed such or intern
through another s work along for a great picture to be established. Being easily able
to validate a claim or narrative account through another is also a huge benefit of the
method making it easier for the truth to come out and harder for lies to see the light.
Personal narratives and information gained from narrative methods tend to come
from truthful sources based on not wanting to tarnish individual s credibility, and not
seeing a reason in creating lies and misleading information. Nevertheless, many
problems can also be seen within the method harder and less likely to prevent. The
limited perspective is detrimental in the sense that only that one perspective s views
through emotion and feeling are used to describe the situation if there had only been
one account. Unless there are multiple viewpoints from different individuals who
think and act differently put together to create one image from all different sides,
which isn t very practical to do. The narrative method also creates a restricted view in
the sense that anything the reader does not know, you don t know. Such as taking into
consideration different socio contexts and the individuals thinking spectrums. The
narrative account may also be biased, understanding the story through ones eyes,
leaves room for events and facts to change based on what the individual thinks, wants,
and knows at the
Mother To Son Rhetorical Devices
Mother to Son , by Langston Hughes is based on the view of hope and inspiration
to continue moving forward in life, regardless of difficulties, and no matter how
hard life may be. The speaker in this poem is a mother who gives advice to her son.
Since the mother has overcame challenges in life, she encourages her son to be
fearless, face challenges and succeed in life. He includes rhetorical devices such as,
figurative language, imagery, symbolism, and sound devices to make the points of
being fearless, to face challenges, and succeed in life. The poet begins the poem by
motivating and inspiring her son to be fearless using an extended metaphor. He
begins comparing the mothers life and a crystal stair. The mother begins saying,
Well, son, I ll tell you: / Life for me ain t been no crystal stair, compares an easy and
pleasant journey through life to her journey of life that has not been easy and
pleasant. The use of extended metaphor comparing the mother s life to a staircase
continues throughout the poem, repeating the line, Life for me ain t been no crystal
stair. Furthermore, life has never been easy or free of problems and it has never been
smooth sailing. The tacks, splinters, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Assess The Importance Of Business Continuity Planning
As listed on the website of Canada Business Network (2017), it is advisable for
businesses to have a Business Continuity Planning (BCP) in order to deal with
unexpected crises that could interrupt the operations of a business. A BCP is
important because every business is at risk from potential disasters that could affect
their normal operations: natural disasters, accidents, sabotage, power and energy
disruptions, failures in the sectors of communications, transportation, safety, and
service, environmental disasters, and cyber attacks (Public Safety Canada 2015).
Regardless of the size or nature of the business, a business owner can design a plan
to minimize the disruption of a disaster, to recover quickly, and to keep the business

Army Contractual Standards
Contractual standards under which new recruits joining the Army apply through

tempo, we have spent a lot of time discussing what we believe to be lax standards.
Serving as a detailed recruiter has changed my perception of what I felt I knew, and
opened my eyes to the Army s plan for the future. The challenges we face may not
necessarily be those that we see right in front of us. Rather the challenge is what are
we leaving behind when we depart the service? The Army spends vast amounts of
money every year in the recruitment, and training of new recruits every year. The

assessment, which many of us completed prior to reporting to our Basic Training

The Theory of Social Disorganization
Social Disorganization Summary paper Social disorganization refers to the failure of
group members to collaborate and accomplish objectives or tackle issues. Social
disorganization normally alludes to a group or society described by the absence of
social control. This brings about an absence of an effective functioning integration
between personal maladjustment, conflicting social attitudes, and conflicting
interests among group members (Goode, 2008). Criminologists and social researchers
focus on the factors that make individuals deviate from groups and society norms
relating their criminal conduct. This is because sociologists have advanced theories
of social structures in an effort to connection social disorganization and behavior
patterns. Stemming from the social structure theory is the popular social
disorganization theory, which contends that a crime happens when the systems of
social groups are deliberately weakened. The theory of social disorganization was
pioneered Henry W. McKay and Clifford X. Shaw. The two, in their theory, suggest
that disorganized groups and communities featured by ethnic heterogeneity, poverty,
and residential mobility weaken group stability (Thornberry, 2004). At its center, the
theory of social disorganization concentrates on the impacts of location characteristics
as they connect to crime. A society or group that lacks organization fails to offer the
fundamental group controls and are unable to deliver vital services. Consequently, the
Borderline Personality Disorder
Borderline Personality Disorder Overview Borderline Personality Disorder is
characterized by impulsivity, unstable self image, mood, and trouble with
interpersonal relationships. One major characteristic is impulsivity, which is
characterized by rapid responding to environmental triggers without thinking (or
caring) about long term consequences (Paris, 2007). Some people may engage in self
injurious activities including attempting and completing suicide. People with
borderline personality disorderhave a highly unstable self image or sense of self
that is impoverished and/or fragmented (Butcher, Hooley, Mineka, 2014). The
central characteristic is affective instability, which is intense emotional responses
to environmental triggers with delayed recovery to baseline emotional state
(Butcher, Hooley, Mineka, 2014). This disorder is different from Bipolar Disorder
in terms of mood because these are rapid and drastic shifts from one emotion to
another a few times a day rather than a few times a year. Some patients may
experience several dysphoric states in one day including sorrow, panic, aversive
tension, rage, terror, shame, and chronic feelings of emptiness and loneliness (Lieb
et al, 2004). In addition, Lieb and colleagues (2004) described the levels of disturbed
cognitions including overvalued ideas of being bad, experience of dissociation,
delusions, and hallucinations (Lieb et al, 2004). With all these behaviors there is a
tremendous amount of interpersonal
Arthur Radebaugh s All-Seeing Eye Police Department
In the 20th century, one particular vision for the future that wowed audiences for
generations was the concept of a state of mass surveillance. This would be a society
in which members of the public could be watched at any given point in time. In
1960, an artist by the name of Arthur Radebaugh drew a comic that was reflective of
this theme. As it is aptly titled, the All Seeing Eye PoliceDepartment depicts police
officers at a futuristic precinct, as they monitor several screens showcasing live
closed circuit television(CCTV) camera footage (Novak). In the comic, the dispatch
police officer appears to be pointing at one of the screens and giving an order perhaps
he is witnessing a crime in progress and he is sending out the appropriate... Show

By comparison, in Radebaugh s comic, the CCTV camera is the only highlighted
piece of technology used for surveillance. With respect to real world alternatives,
the wiretapping of phones was an approved police practice in the U.S. as of 1928
(Harris). With the use of CCTV cameras, the police usually have to wait for a
privately owned business to hand over their surveillance footage after a crime has
been committed. In contrast, with the use of wiretapping, police can adopt a more
proactive approach, as they can listen in on the phone conversations of suspicious
people, and they may be able to catch them before a crime even takes place.
Particularly, wiretapping is prevalent in U.S. narcotics cases. In 2010, a wiretap
was used in order to get a conviction for the Dominguez drug smuggling
organization, as two defendants in the case were recorded as they were clearly
arranging a cocaine deal (McCombs). The prosecutors were able to convict the drug
distributors only because the defendants made their intentions plainly obvious in the
recorded phone call. Meanwhile, Radebaugh s comic forgot to consider that while
CCTV cameras can be extremely useful, when using them it is very difficult to
identify the underlying criminal intent, as only the criminal act itself is on display.

Romanticism In Pride And Prejudice
Despite its name, Romantic, the Romantic age had only a few things that was related
to the real meaning of romance known now, however, love had been the main subject
of most of the age s art. The age was actually a great achievement of art and
philosophy that resulted in the western societies to change the way they thought
about themselves and their surroundings as mentioned in the article Romanticism
Adapted from A Guide to the Study of Literature. Differing from the classical age
the romantic age has given artists of that period more freedom and creation. Music

One of the most important artists that appeared was the great Jane Austen an English
novelist of romance based fiction. One of Jane Austen s great writings was the novel
Pride and Prejudice . The novel was based on the idea of marriage and how it was
affected by the society. A major idea that was shown in Jane s novel was the idea
behind how certain physical appearances really hid how a person s real character
is. It is clearly shown in the way Elizabeth was misguided with Mr. Darcy s and Mr.
Wickham s appearance on how their Internal character really is as mentioned in the
article Pride and Prejudice: Appearance vs. Reality . By the time most of the novel
s events are over Elizabeth comes to a decision that her primary impact on both Mr.
Darcy and Mr. Wickham were incorrect. Jane Austen clearly concludes on her novel
that appearance often tricks how people judge one s real character.
Jane Austen shows romanticism in pride and prejudice through the concept of
marriage. in Pride and Prejudice, we can see that Jane Austen, besides of mainly
concentrating on modeling the characters Elizabeth and Darcy and portraying the
complicated love and marriage between them; also pays much attention to depicting
many other roles and three other marriages. In each of these marriages, properties,
status, love, beautiful appearance exert different influence and these four marriages
are combinations for profit, for moral, for lust and for
Witch Of Blackbird Pond Legalism
Exodus 22:22 24 says, You shall not afflict any widow or orphan. If you afflict him
at all, and if he does cry out to Me, I will surely hear his cry; and My anger will be
kindled, and I will kill you with the sword, and your wives shall become widows
and your children fatherless. In The Witch of Blackbird Pond, by Elizabeth George
Speare, Matthew, Kit s uncle and a devout Puritan, completely ignored this Bible
verse because of his legalism. Matthew should not have been legalistic for three
reasons. He was denying good things from his family, his legalism made him unkind
to others, and legalism is unbiblical. The first reason Matthew should not have been
legalistic is because he was denying good things from his family. When he found his

  • 5. The At The Statesboro Main Street Farmers Market From 10 On September 3, 2016, I was given the opportunity to serve at The Statesboro Main Street Farmers Market from 10:00am until 1:00pm. This event is open to the public from April to November every Saturday from 9:30am 12:30pm beside the Bulloch County Courthouse and Sea Island Bank. Here you will find many local vendors selling their own produce. This event is not limited to produce as you will also find locals selling jewelry, baked goods, crafts, and my personal favorite, coffee. Some locally owned stores other than farmers bring their business to the marketsuch as Three Tree Coffee Roasters, Sugar Magnolia, Cork s Kettle Corn, B G Honey Farm, etc. With a small town feel, this charming location is perfect for the venue at hand. What was your role at the event? Upon arrival, I went to the information vendor located in the middle of the Farmers Market where I was greeted by other volunteers and Melanie Sparrow, who told me my responsibilites for the upcoming hours. My first duty was to hand out various advertisements for the upcoming GreenFest which will be held October 1st, 2016, across the street from the Farmers Market. The GreenFest is held by Georgia Southern s Center for Sustainability. The goal of this event is to teach people about green living and what it entails. Much like the Farmers Market, there will be live music, vendors, and workshops. Aside from passing out ads, I also helped keep attendance of everyone in the market by taking a count every 30 minutes or so.
  • 6. Analysis Of The Movie The Woman Of Black On the 31st of March we watched the Woman in Black at the Fortune theatre in London, as part of our unit two assessment. The play is about Arthur Kipps who tells the gripping story of the terrible events he survived when he encountered the woman in black. He learns about the death of Mrs Drablow and travels to the town of Crythin Gifford. Here he meets many petrified faces, too scared to about the womanin black. Through the story of Mr Kipps we learn that a woman named Jennet Humfrye had a child unmarried and was forced to leave her child with her sister Mrs Drablow, years later Jennet plans to run away with her son but before she able to, the tragic event of his death occurs. Due to the unbearable grief Jennet suffers from a terrible wasting disease leading to her death. Instantly after her death she returns as the Woman in Black and haunts the people of the town who are too afraid to speak of her name. After hearing this story he leaves the town, many years later after getting married and having a child he thinks he sees the woman in black again and on that day Mr Kipps wife Stella and child die. Setting The performance began with the props of a stool, chair, basket and a coat rack. The use of the minimal set allowed the audience to focus on the action taking place on stage and storyline, rather than the distractions of the set. Instead of using different scenery, a gauze was used. This was effective as it meant that the scenery would not keep moving, therefore the
  • 7. Minimal Dismissals Examples Minimal dismissals, one hundred percent completed hours, and lowest possible unexcused absences. These are my three goals for our chapter of NJHS if I am elected into the office position I seek. First, minimal dismissals of officers because it is our duty to set an example for others and we can t do that if our members are getting into trouble and have to be dismissed. Also, one hundred percent completed hours because if there are any members who have not completed their hours that means that they have not helped our community, which means our chapter has not helped the community when it is in need. Finally, lowest possible unexcused absences because we want our officers to be there for our community, but I know that sometimes you just can t contact whoever is in charge when something pops up because it is too late. In the end, if I am elected President of NJHS, 3 goals that we can reach as a chapter are minimal dismissals, one hundred percent completed hours, and lowest possible unexcused absences.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe, that our chapter can have a minimal amount of dismissals this year, with 5 being the max amount that can be tolerated. Our chapter is made up of an amazing group of students, some I have gotten to know, and some I will know later in the year, that can be role models and not get into any trouble that will lead to dismissal. Our students at MTMS are great people, with only a small fraction getting in trouble, and none of our members are in that small fraction, but they are the people that would help out that small fraction become the best they can be and decrease the size of the fraction. In conclusion, our chapter is made up of amazing scholars and none of them will be dismissed this year, at least that is the goal so
  • 8. Training Center Of The New Sailor A half dozen chartered busses sat idling at the departure center of the Recruit Training Center Orlando on a Friday morning in June, waiting to take the graduates of Company 129 to the next stop in their fledgling Navy enlistments. About half of C 129 s 60 or so graduates were staying put right there in Orlando, off to attend one of the many schools hosted by the adjacent command, Naval Training Center. The rest of us, along with the females in our sister company boarded one of the six busses that would take us to the next stop on our way to the fleet. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All the rest of our uniforms, essentially everything we owned, was stuffed in one sea bag. We spent a lot of time in boot camp learning how to properly fold our clothes, and I m sure the only reason was to ensure everything fit into that inelastic cylinder of green canvas. Once filled with our dress whites, dress blues, working blues, dungarees, white hats, pea coats, raincoats, dress shoes, towels, shower kits, t shirts, and skivvies, there wasn t room left over for even an extra sock. We spent the eight hour bus ride reminiscing about the eight weeks we just spent together and arrived at our destination at around 6 o clock in the evening. Not all of us were there to attend EW school. Some were future Cryptologists, some were going to be taken down the road to attend air crew school at the Naval Air Station, and one was heading to the Instrumentman school where he was going to learn how to fix gauges and clocks and things. We were met by a Chief Petty Officer and an EW student in civilian clothes who was assigned to be our sponsor. After exiting the bus and collecting our sea bags, we lined up in formation on the sidewalk in front of a four story brick barracks building. The Chief waved off the bus and greeted us, Welcome to Corry Field! Which one of you is McDonald? I nervously raised my hand, not knowing at all why he d be interested in me in particular. The Chief smiled and went on, I hear you have some charity work you d like

By 1910, it was clear to natives that the deer were creating a negative impact on the environment. Feeding areas were becoming bare and there was flooding due to the loss of soil from erosion (Drew). Animals that are introduced to their non native environments and cause harm are known as invasive species. In addition to New Zealand, this invasive species has also been introduced to North and South America and Australia, causing similar damaging effects. Red Deer are originally from Eurasia, belonging in the temperate grassland biome. The ecosystems the Red Deer would typically be found in are forests, mountain ridges, or open grasslands. Red Deer

  • 12. An Analysis Of George Gershwin s An American Folk Opera An American Folk Opera. George Gershwin s most successful piece of expansive musical drama was subtitled with this term that no musician or critic had applied to a work of musical drama before the 1935 premiere of Porgy and Bess. Much has been written about the work s subtitle; its literal meaning, its evolution, and its implications for a changing cultural landscape. Porgy and Besswas the last in a triptych of literature and theater surrounding the character of Porgy, a crippled beggar living in Charleston s semi fictitious Catfish Row. Porgy, the 1925 novel written by white author DuBose Heyward, was the original. The novel received mixed reviews; white critics praised Heyward s vivid descriptions of the life of the Negro while... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dvorak s Symphony No. 9, From the New World was based upon spirituals and plantation song from the South. Bartok s Ten Easy Pieces for piano were heavily influenced by folk melody [that was] a kind of inspirational motto to be developed. Gershwin understood there to be a need for a truly American voice in music, comparable to those of the great nationalist European composers, recognizing that The only kinds of music which endure are those which possess form in the universal sense and folk music. All else dies. Similar to Dvorak in his ninth symphony, the idiom that Gershwin employed for his opera was that of the Negro spiritual and folk song. Before composing Porgy and Bess, Gershwin made a trek down to Charleston, South Carolina and some of its outlying island communities with the purpose of studying rural African American culture. It was there that he became immersed in the music of that community and it was there that he garnered his inspiration for the opera s score. Again harkening to the traditions of the European masters, Gershwin decided against the note for note transcription of the songs he had heard, but rather used them as inspiration for a continuous musical narrative of folk inspired themes. Thus, we arrive at the term folk opera. Gershwin s use of African American folk material in the composition of an opera gave rise to the literal terminology
  • 13. My Critical Evaluation Of Various Components The reflective essay will pertain to chapter 8 and my critical evaluation of various components in this chapter. Attention is different for everyone, so ideally we all have things we play closer attention too. When I m out and I see people who wear pink or have sparkles I tend to pay more attention that area. I also get distracted very easily so if I am out and about and there is commotion going on I ll stop to see what all the fuss is about. My own selective attentiondeals with movements, sparkly and pink objects. If any of those apply my retina will process that for me. What types of things do you pay close attention too? Selective attention makes me think of being at a party or some type of gathering where you don t really know anyone. I usually make saccades of the environment. If I see someone I know or looks familiar I will remain fixated for a couple seconds than look away. At that moment I try and process how I recognize them. When I first saw the term dichotic listening this is what came to mind. Whisper down the alley is what popped up in my brain. I learned this game in elementary school where one person whispers a message into your and you pass it on to the next person. Sometimes there were two messages that were started in both directions, than passed to each individual participating. Whiter it is one message or two the whole point was to see if the message in the end matched the original message. In most cases it did not, do too how we hear the message is
  • 14. Lowell s Theories On Extraterrestrial Life And Canals On... Introduction Percival Lowell s theories considering extraterrestrial life on Mars creates a great deal of controversy; whether or not the general public and the science community should recognize him for his achievements. Lowell s novels regarding extraterrestrial life and canals on Mars would evoke the public s attention. Which would cause the red planet to be under debate whether or not there is proof that contemporary life does exist on Mars. This debate would also begin to question Lowell s validity as a professional astronomer. Since his theories had no factual proof or evidence, it was natural to question his knowledge of astronomy. Percival Lowell s hypotheses in subject to extraterrestrial life, canals and vegetation on the planet Mars erroneously praises Lowell for his achievements in astronomy. Although most readers of eighteenth century astronomy and science fiction argue that, Lowell was a valid astronomer and that his theories set the debate of extraterrestrial life in motion. Closer examination shows that Lowell s was delusional and his assumptions would benefit science fiction more than actual science. The importance of understanding Lowell s accusations in astronomy is to encourage confirmation of aberration of Mars and extraterrestrial life. 2. Examination Of Percival Lowell It is important to give context of Percival Lowell, because his personality and circumstances shape his thesis on extraterrestrial life on Mars. Lowell was no interloper
  • 15. Goals of the Progressive Era Essay The term Progressivism implies a philosophy that promotes change/reform in the current political, economic, and social aspects of society while conservatism stresses gradual change in society but promotes tradition rather than change. The Progressive movement from 1901 to 1917 worked to improve aspects of society that grew out of problems which occurred during the Industrial Age. The goals of the Progressives were to stop monopolies, corruption, inefficiency and social injustices. Both progressive acts and amendments were being passed to deal with social ills, corruption in politics and corporate America. The period from 1901 1917 was more a victory for liberalism, mainly modern liberalism , than a triumph of conservatism due to the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through busting the bad trusts Theodore attempted to stop monopolies from forming. This is an example of government intervention to remedy the effects of capitalism and a liberal practice. He also started the progressive or the Bull Moose party. Clearly, these reform movements as well as the busting of trusts move away from the traditional aspect of politics and promotes autonomy of the individual as well as strong government to remedy the defects of capitalism, both liberal ideals. Furthermore, economics also played a key role in describing whether liberalism or conservatism triumphed in this era. President William Howard Taftencouraged a policy known as Dollar Diplomacy where the United States invested in foreign countries in order to gain power. This dollar diplomacy would make money for as well strengthen the US. Later Taft went on to become more of a trust buster than Roosevelt. His most noteworthy bust was the Standard Oil Company, one of the largest trusts of the time, which was ordered to be broken into smaller companies in 1911. Throughout the entire book, different expressions of love are shown through the soldiers actions, either toward a girl, families, friends, or even themselves. The reader can witness the romantic story between Lieutenant Jimmy Cross and Martha as described by O brien. Reading between the lines one can name their relationship as convenient rather than romantic. Although they seemed to love each other, the reality is that they loved the idea of having each other. Cross liked the fact of having Martha because she was his source of power to keep fighting, his reason to survive. He wanted to feel that staying alive will have its reward. On the other hand, the author of the book also centred on the relationship between two of the soldiers. Their friendship was so strong because they loved andrespected each other. Another kind of love is the one that the author hiself expressed while taking the decision on the river. The reason why he was running away to Canada was because he loved his ideals. However, he decided to go back because he loved his family and his country more and felt ashamed for betraying them as he stated, I would go to war I would kill and maybe die because I was embarrassed not to (O brien 57). The book itself also explains how the soldiers would carry everything for love. They would carry shame, guilt and regrets just if that helps them to survive and return back to their homes with their

Life is hard, especially when you have three kids (which is a lot more than most peasants have). Living in the 1300s is not all it s caught up to be. Everyday I have to go to the market and do the job of farming the crops. All these things have to be done to keep my family alive for as long as I can. As I am walking out of the house to go to the market, I see many nobles following our handsome Lord Joshua. I tell my kids to stay at home and do their chores. But they were crying because they knew their dad was getting worse and going to die soon. I walk up the hill to the market and I see a HELP WANTED sign. I wondered if I could finally get a job and earn money no matter the amount. But right as I walked up, they automatically said no because they were looking for a man who apparently could work more efficiently. I bought only the food I needed and left the market without asking about the job. As I was reaching the house at a distance I thought I saw my husband up and playing with the kids. But to my surprise it was Lord Joshua. Quite literally, a baby is born in the world as a seed and needs nothing more than unconditional nurturing in order to grow and develop at a steady pace. In the case of psychiatrist Bruce Perry s The Coldest Heart , Leon is a teenager who comes from a tight knit, affectionate family yet unlike his older brother Frank, Leon was never exposed to such care and attention. Instead, he spent his childhood in a state of neglect and darkness an apparent yet uncalled for trigger to his juvenile, criminal behavior that shaped him to become what Dr. Perry considers being a classic sociopath (Perry, 114). In a small family with an innocent and conservative mother, a hardworking father, and an older brother to idolize, it would best be assumed that the child would turn out to be a mellow, genuine person. Yet with Leon the situation was a complete turnaround. Rather than an outgoing, socially savvy boy he grows up to become an anti social, problematic teen. Why? An automatic response would be to blame the parents. Did they do something wrong in raising him? With her first son Leon s mother Maria had an entire network of support in helping raise Frank. A whole family of women stepped forward and took over handling the newborn whenever Maria desired. The striking difference between the childhoods of her two sons is reflected in the child

The speaker is using this visual cue to explain that when he waters his grudge it is not the same thing as someone who follows their theology with complete abandon. Another visual cue that explains the theme is when McDaniel s uses the word bloomed (14). This visual cue is used to describe the actual moment when his hatred has consumed him. The few rights that prisoners get to keep are, but are not limited to, visitation rights, mail services, religious gatherings and studies, medical treatment and care, and access to courts and legal assistance. These services help inmates stay in touch with society and help inmates get treated fairly throughout the facility (Santillan, 2010). In 1969, there were approximately 300,000 people incarcerated in federal, state, and county jails or prisons. Today that number surpasses 2.4 million and to add to it, there are approximately 4 million under parole or probation (People s Law Office). There can be pros and cons to prisoner rights. Some of the pros are attention drawn to physical and psychological issues of inmates, environmental conditions, and medical needs (Santillan, 2010). A con would be the security and safety of the prison (Santillan, 2010). Contraband could be brought into the prison facility during visitation or throughout the mail service. The disparate treatment doctrine requires a plaintiff to demonstrate that an employer has treated some people less favorably than others because of their race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. Three provisions required to prove disparate treatment are (1) the plaintiff must establish a prima facie case of racial discrimination; (2) the employer must articulate some legitimate, nondiscriminatory reason for its actions, and (3) the plaintiff must prove that the stated reason was in fact pretextual. Proof of discriminatory motive is critical and may be inferred from the mere fact of differences in treatment. Proof may also be inferred from the falsity of the employer s explanation for the treatment, (Walsh, 2010). Mr. Dunlap successfully established a prima facie case of disparate treatment by meeting the above 3 provisions; (1) he was African American; (2) he was qualified for the position sought; and (3) white applicants with less experience were hired for 9 of the 10 open jobs. TVA attempted to rebut his claim by offering the selection matrix used during his interview as evidence to prove that he didn t rank as one of the top 10 applicants due to his interview scores. The Iranian Hostage Crisis Of 1979 The Iranian Hostage Crisis of 1979 was an event that profoundly impacted Western Iranian relations, to the extent that its residual effects still linger today. Iran s revolution of 1979 resulted in a regime change that saw U.S. supported Mohammed Reza Shah Pahlavi toppled by the formerly exiled Ayotollah Khomeini, who promptly instated a strongly anti Western regime that established itself as ideologically in direct opposition to many Western values. This anti Western, and particularly anti American sentiment was common amongst many Iranians due to their resentment of U.S. support for Shah Pahlavi and his oppressive and unsatisfactory regime. This resentment was markedly exhibited to the international community with the seizure of the American Embassy in Tehran by Khomeini supporting Islamist students, who took 66 Americans hostage. Personal narratives and information gained from narrative methods tend to come from truthful sources based on not wanting to tarnish individual s credibility, and not seeing a reason in creating lies and misleading information. This brings about an absence of an effective functioning integration between personal maladjustment, conflicting social attitudes, and conflicting interests among group members (Goode, 2008). Criminologists and social researchers focus on the factors that make individuals deviate from groups and society norms relating their criminal conduct. This is because sociologists have advanced theories of social structures in an effort to connection social disorganization and behavior patterns. Stemming from the social structure theory is the popular social disorganization theory, which contends that a crime happens when the systems of social groups are deliberately weakened. The theory of social disorganization was pioneered Henry W. McKay and Clifford X. Shaw. The two, in their theory, suggest that disorganized groups and communities featured by ethnic heterogeneity, poverty, and residential mobility weaken group stability (Thornberry, 2004). At its center, the theory of social disorganization concentrates on the impacts of location characteristics as they connect to crime. A society or group that lacks organization fails to offer the fundamental group controls and are unable to deliver vital services. Consequently, the

Borderline Personality Disorder Borderline Personality Disorder Overview Borderline Personality Disorder is characterized by impulsivity, unstable self image, mood, and trouble with interpersonal relationships. One major characteristic is impulsivity, which is characterized by rapid responding to environmental triggers without thinking (or caring) about long term consequences (Paris, 2007). Some people may engage in self injurious activities including attempting and completing suicide. People with borderline personality disorderhave a highly unstable self image or sense of self that is impoverished and/or fragmented (Butcher, Hooley, Mineka, 2014). The central characteristic is affective instability, which is intense emotional responses to environmental triggers with delayed recovery to baseline emotional state (Butcher, Hooley, Mineka, 2014). This disorder is different from Bipolar Disorder in terms of mood because these are rapid and drastic shifts from one emotion to another a few times a day rather than a few times a year. Some patients may experience several dysphoric states in one day including sorrow, panic, aversive tension, rage, terror, shame, and chronic feelings of emptiness and loneliness (Lieb et al, 2004). In addition, Lieb and colleagues (2004) described the levels of disturbed cognitions including overvalued ideas of being bad, experience of dissociation, delusions, and hallucinations (Lieb et al, 2004). With all these behaviors there is a tremendous amount of interpersonal

Arthur Radebaugh s All-Seeing Eye Police Department In the 20th century, one particular vision for the future that wowed audiences for generations was the concept of a state of mass surveillance. This would be a society in which members of the public could be watched at any given point in time. In 1960, an artist by the name of Arthur Radebaugh drew a comic that was reflective of this theme. As it is aptly titled, the All Seeing Eye PoliceDepartment depicts police officers at a futuristic precinct, as they monitor several screens showcasing live closed circuit television(CCTV) camera footage (Novak). In the comic, the dispatch police officer appears to be pointing at one of the screens and giving an order perhaps he is witnessing a crime in progress and he is sending out the appropriate... With respect to real world alternatives, the wiretapping of phones was an approved police practice in the U.S. as of 1928 (Harris). With the use of CCTV cameras, the police usually have to wait for a privately owned business to hand over their surveillance footage after a crime has been committed. In contrast, with the use of wiretapping, police can adopt a more proactive approach, as they can listen in on the phone conversations of suspicious people, and they may be able to catch them before a crime even takes place. Particularly, wiretapping is prevalent in U.S. narcotics cases. In 2010, a wiretap was used in order to get a conviction for the Dominguez drug smuggling organization, as two defendants in the case were recorded as they were clearly arranging a cocaine deal (McCombs). The prosecutors were able to convict the drug distributors only because the defendants made their intentions plainly obvious in the recorded phone call. Meanwhile, Radebaugh s comic forgot to consider that while CCTV cameras can be extremely useful, when using them it is very difficult to identify the underlying criminal intent, as only the criminal act itself is on display. As it has been

Romanticism In Pride And Prejudice Despite its name, Romantic, the Romantic age had only a few things that was related to the real meaning of romance known now, however, love had been the main subject of most of the age s art. The age was actually a great achievement of art and philosophy that resulted in the western societies to change the way they thought about themselves and their surroundings as mentioned in the article Romanticism Adapted from A Guide to the Study of Literature. Differing from the classical age the romantic age has given artists of that period more freedom and creation. Music for instance was of great value in terms of the way it expresses. Composers of the age used music along with freedom in expression to express nationalism and hence proving their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the most important artists that appeared was the great Jane Austen an English novelist of romance based fiction. One of Jane Austen s great writings was the novel Pride and Prejudice . The novel was based on the idea of marriage and how it was affected by the society. A major idea that was shown in Jane s novel was the idea behind how certain physical appearances really hid how a person s real character is. It is clearly shown in the way Elizabeth was misguided with Mr. Darcy s and Mr. Wickham s appearance on how their Internal character really is as mentioned in the article Pride and Prejudice: Appearance vs. Reality . By the time most of the novel s events are over Elizabeth comes to a decision that her primary impact on both Mr. Darcy and Mr. Wickham were incorrect. Jane Austen clearly concludes on her novel that appearance often tricks how people judge one s real character. Jane Austen shows romanticism in pride and prejudice through the concept of marriage. in Pride and Prejudice, we can see that Jane Austen, besides of mainly concentrating on modeling the characters Elizabeth and Darcy and portraying the complicated love and marriage between them; also pays much attention to depicting many other roles and three other marriages. In each of these marriages, properties, status, love, beautiful appearance exert different influence and these four marriages are combinations for profit, for moral, for lust and for

If you afflict him at all, and if he does cry out to Me, I will surely hear his cry; and My anger will be kindled, and I will kill you with the sword, and your wives shall become widows and your children fatherless. In The Witch of Blackbird Pond, by Elizabeth George Speare, Matthew, Kit s uncle and a devout Puritan, completely ignored this Bible verse because of his legalism. Matthew should not have been legalistic for three reasons. He was denying good things from his family, his legalism made him unkind to others, and legalism is unbiblical. The first reason Matthew should not have been legalistic is because he was denying good things from his family. When he found his daughters
