1. Ethics Essay Topics
Writing an essay on the topic of "Ethics Essay Topics" can be both challenging and thought-
provoking. The difficulty arises from the broad and complex nature of ethics itself. Ethics
encompasses a wide range of moral principles, values, and dilemmas, making it necessary to
carefully navigate through various philosophical perspectives and real-world applications.
One challenge lies in the need for a deep understanding of ethical theories and frameworks.
Exploring deontology, consequentialism, virtue ethics, and other ethical perspectives requires a
nuanced grasp of philosophical concepts. Moreover, applying these theories to contemporary
issues demands critical thinking skills to analyze and evaluate complex situations.

static field; it evolves with societal changes, cultural shifts, and technological advancements.
Staying updated with current ethical debates and incorporating relevant examples into the essay
requires thorough research and a keen awareness of contemporary issues.

2. Character Analysis Of Hazel Grace Augustus
The protagonist is Hazel Grace Lancaster. She is a dynamic character. An example
that is the fact that at the beginning of novel she wants to distance herself from
society. Then she meets Augustus Waters. Augustus has the view of that everyone
matters using metaphor to explain it. By the end of the novelshe realizes that it s ok to
let people in and that everyone will die eventually but you have live your life to the
fullest. She s also a is a round characteras we get a lot of insight on her option and life.
The antagonist of the story is not a person but cancer itself. The cancer limits the
activities that Hazel and Augustus can do. People constantly judge hazel for her
oxygen tank just because she s different the reason cancer is the antagonist is because
it prevents all the main characters from what society defines as normal teen lives.
You could also say the antagonist could be Augustus Waters. The rasin for this is the
fact the before hazel meet Augustus she was trying to not impact anyone in her life.
Her main goal was to live without hurting anyone but Augustus get in her way.
Hazel grace Lancaster is one of the main characters in fault in are stars. We watch
her physical grow weaker an example is at the beginning of the book she takes the
stares and at the end she takes the elevator at her support group. The book is really
about her mentally and philosophical grow and understand especially concerning
death. At the beginning as I have stated she is obsessed with what negative effect
she will have on people around her when she dies and refuses to get close to
anyone. Also referring to herself as a grenade multiple times during the novel. A
good word to describe Hazel is a brutally honest person.she knows that cancer doesn t
define her. Unlike a lot of people she has no fluff when she talks about cancer an
example is at the beginning of the novel when she says:Whenever you read a cancer
booklet or website or whatever, they always list depression among the side effects of
cancer. But in fact, depression is not a side effect of cancer. Depression is a side
effect of dying. This honest approach is what keeps her going but also makes her
very lonely. Hazel is also very humorous. I like her
3. Theories Of Change For Peacebuilding Differ With Equity,...
Theories of change for peacebuilding vary based on what they are trying to change.
Theories of change in general help conflict mediators with understanding personal
assumptions, assuring actions align with the intended goal, and identify opportunities
for change (Church and Rogers n.d.). Sarvodaya already implements the Grassroots
Mobilization Theory and the Economics theory, but in places like Kabithigollawa
conflict between Tamils and Sinhalese is still prevalent. Sarvodaya should implement
the following three theories of change to inform future conflict resolution processes:
The healthy relationships and connections theory, the institutional development
theory, and the public attitudes theory. Modernization, growth with equity, and
liberation are three development paradigms of the European intellectual tradition that
correspond with different peacebuilding paradigms. The healthy relationships theory
aligns with growth with equity, institutional development and public attitudes align
with modernization. This analysis is problematic from the start, as they are based on
European traditions and Sarvodaya purposely grew out of the Eastern traditions and
does not want to modernize, which is often synonymous with Westernization.
However, there is still some value in analyzing the theories of change to assess if
these approaches will help Sarvodaya better transform conflict areas. Sarvodaya s
intention is through development to achieve the uplifting of all. However, they avoid

5. How Did North America Change Over Time
Over the years, North America has developed in many different ways. However, one
particular time period in which change was significant was the 1600 s, a time of
trade, labor, and territorial settlements. As many people began to settle in different
areas of North America, such as the Native Americans, Pilgrims, and more, there
came along the fur trade, colony building, and more foreigners looking to live in
North America. With these different people coming to North America, they have
created ways in which cohabitation is possible, but unlikeable. As more Europeans
and Spaniards arrived, the more likely spread was to happen, thus creating an
unexpected competition between the developing colonies. In the early 1600 s, after
Christopher Columbus discovered North... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the time the Spanish built a military post at St. Augustine while also wiping
the French interlopers, there were fishing fleet activity involving the English and
French, in Cape Cod. There, were also local Native Americans who decided to trade
with the English and French, fur, in return for manufactured goods such as guns,
cloth, and metal utensils. With this, trading became more well known and accessible
to the other English and French, thus becoming a daily activity for the Europeans and
the Native Americans. However, as time passed, more animals with fur began to
diminish, thus enacting the competition of fur against the English and French. Unlike
the French who took up many of Canada s land (home of many fur bearing animals)
and traded with the Natives there, the English trading took place in Newfoundland
and on the Atlantic coast south of the French settlements. However, with the
diminishing of fur bearing animals, the French began to move further west in search
of it. This then gave the French an advantage of exploring more of Canada and North
America, while also building relationships with more Native
6. Neil Mccaw s Context Analysis
Neil McCaw distinguishes four types of contexts as four ways of reading a text:
genre, literary history, history, and authorial biography (McCaw, 2008:82). He
claims that these contexts have a key role in understanding a text from different
perspectives (McCaw, 2008: 82). This section includes two subsections which
discuss the following types of contexts: socio historical and biographical contexts
and literary context of Sylvia Plath s writing. The contexts are in accordance with
Neil McCaw s classification of contexts. The socio historical and biographical
contexts chosen for the present analysis correspond to history and authorial
biography as proposed by Neil McCaw. Similarly, literary context may include both

Patricia Stanley writes that in the 1950 Sylvia Plath won a scholarship to Smith
College (Stanley, 2006: 396). Regardless of the success in her studies, Sylvia Plath
suffered her first depression when she returned from her guest editorship in the
Mademoiselle magazine (Stanley, 2006: 397). Linda Wagner Martin explains that
The Bell Jar depicts the continuous decline into depression which began when Plath
was a guest editor in the Mademoiselle magazine (Wagner Martin, 2003: 33). Connie
Ann Kirk holds that the depression led to her first unsuccessful suicide attempt,
which happened in August 1953 (Kirk, 2009: 78). After electroconvulsive treatment,
Plath showed signs of recovery and soon after that she went back to Smith College
to continue her studies. After Plath finished her studies in Smith College, she was
accepted to Cambridge University on Fulbright scholarship where she met her future
husband and a poet, Ted Hughes, whom she married in June 1956 (Kirk, 2009: 86).
Steven Gould Axelrod holds that Plath s marriage affected her creative life because
frequent unhappiness inhibited her writing in which she could not give herself credit
even for the poems and stories that she did write (Axelrod, 1990:
7. Mary E. Wilkins Freeman s The Revolt Of Mother
Looking at the short story entitled, The Revolt of Mother by Mary E. Wilkins
Freeman, the story sets off in the late 1890 s and tells a tale about a woman by the
name Sarah Penn or Mother believed that she is doing the right thing by standing up
for what she deems is right. Back in these times, women were valued at being less of
importance. Women were only meant to take care a home, clean, and raise children.
So having the Mother title shows that she is not of any importance because she is a
woman and women didn t have titles, she was just simply referred to as mother and
nothing else. The short story takes off when Mother asks Father why men are
digging. When father pays her no attention, she becomes angry and states Look here,

They were only to speak when spoken to and worry about the affairs of the house
and raising children. Women didn t have an opinion and for Mother to do what she
had done, which was going behind father s back and moving into the new barn,
showed the courage Mother had in her for standing up for what she thought and
knew was right and not to be looked down upon just because she was of the opposite
sex.
Two poems by the same author Mary E. Wilkins Freeman, The Clock and Morning
Light how they compare to one another is that they both talk about time passing by.
In the poem, The Clock the author states that Whether the people were grave or
gay, upon a wedding or funeral day Tick tock. (Wilkins Freeman) tells readers that
time waits for no one and passes by in the blink of an eye.
How the two poems contrast each other is that even though they are talking about
time passing, in the poem Morning Light the author talks about death also and
how soon it will come for her. She also tells the readers of how lively and free she
once was in the morning light, when her Lord Love was fond of her and loved her.
(Wilkins Freeman). Now that she is became older she believes that his brother Lord
Death was pursuing her now, He may be my Lord Death, his brother; the likelihood
of that I see (Wilkins Freeman), she knew that she will soon meet
8. Different Stages Of Development Children Go Through
Essay
Sensitive Periods
Have you ever wondered how many times a child can repeat an activity or a song
or an action without getting bored? When I was working as an assistance teacher at
our school, even I used to get questions from parents about why children are
repetitive in some things at certain stages. These types of questions will be answered
if we all understand the concepts explained by Dr. Maria Montessori regarding
different stages of development children go through.
Maria Montessori believed that children pass through different phases in which at
certain stages throughout their development they have a predisposition or sensitivity
to learning a specific skill. These stages are called Sensitive Periods . Each period
lasts for as long as it is necessary for the child to accomplish a particular stage in his
development. These periods of sensitivity are transitory. They only last for a certain
duration of time. Some sensitive periods run parallel, some overlap and some
succeed each other. When the goal of the period is accomplished, the special
sensitivity simply falls away. In other words, it reaches its peak and dies away.
The concept of Sensitive Periods in a child s life will remain forever as Dr. Maria
Montessori s greatest discovery. Even though the concept was first used by a famous
Dutch biologist, Hugo de Vries in connection with animal development research, Dr.
Maria Montessori was the one who found similarities and applied the concept to
human development
9. Philanthropy In Poverty
Assess the role played by philanthropy in the relief of poverty between 1750 and
1950.
Between 1750 and 1950 the way in which the poor and poverty was perceived by
society was changing. Consequently, it was during this period that concerns began to
flourish with regards to pauperism, and what should be done about it. The poor law,
which had been put in place during the sixteenth century by Elizabeth 1 was
becoming outdated and expensive. What s more, many of the upper classes thought
of the poor law as providing too much relief to the impoverished. At the same time
philanthropy, that is the desire to help others, especially through the donation of
money to good causes was becoming extremely popular within the upper classes.
Subsequently, over the period studied many changes came into being, such as
changes in the poor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These changes came about as a direct response to the rising numbers of paupers and
pauperism. The poor laws, which consisted of outdoor relief, the workhouse and
parish responsibility for the locally born, required contradictory responses to poverty:
succour and repression, alms and forced labour. These dual directives which were
implemented by church wardens and several of the substantial householders who
served as overseers of the poor were a burden on both administrators and paupers
alike who had to decide which person would be given relief, and the type of relief
given. In addition, the poor law, which had been put in place during the sixteenth
century by Elizabeth 1 was becoming outdated and expensive, as rising numbers of
paupers were too great to maintain this as a viable option for the relief of poverty.
By this time the poor rate accounted for one fifth of the national expenditure by 1830.
This led to sustained call for a more centralised and uniform system which brought
about the Poor Law Amendment Act of
10. Revenue Recognition Case Summary
Implication: The value of revenue recognition will impact the compensation of the
top management, and the financial performance of MITS.
Analysis: The payable for the year is $136,000, and the draft income statement have
bonus for $156,390. The two amount is difference. The bonus should a kind of wage
expense for MITS. According to my calculation, the total revenue below $4 million.
Therefore, MITS should not be pay the bonus payable in the current year. However,
the bonus plan will help the company increase performance, but the plan may lead to
top management record incorrect revenue.

but not depend on the revenue. MITS will reduce risk from top management.
Recommendation
Mainframe Server Revenue
I recommend alternative 2 the revenue should be recognized when the customer has
sign off on an installation form and accepted the server. This is the point that the
risk and reward is transfer to the customer and the MITS does not have the
ownership for the server. According to the revenue recognition, only three of the
four mainframes server should be record on the revenue in the current year. For the
three servers, mainframe server revenue should be record based on the bifurcate
value of $466,102 per server. The total revenue of server is $1,398,306.
(3*$466,102=$1,398,306) The total unearned warranty revenue is $251,694.

2.Analyzing The Internal and External Environment (SWOT Analysis) a.Strengths:
Dunkin Donuts is very popular in its industry and has established a powerful brand
and image through its efficient operations, low prices and the wide range of high
quality products it offers. Moreover, the company experiences economies of scale as
it has many operations worldwide. In addition they have significant bargaining
power against their suppliers due to the experience they obtained and the support
they acquire from Allied Domecq, one of the strongest companies in the market.
b.Weaknesses: Dunkin Donuts considers themselves as a retailer, for that reason,
they are not well equipped to produce the bagels themselves. They rely on
outsourcing this can have its drawbacks as they become too dependant on suppliers.
c.Opportunities: The increased acceptance and the growing demand for bagels as a
breakfast and lunch item has estimated to spread across the boundaries of the United
States and seep into the international arena particularly Europe. Bagels appeal to
consumers because they are a versatile product they can appeal to many different
tastes by simply changing the flavor. d.Threats: Considering the bagel industry is in
the growth stage there is an upsurge of competitors. The main competitors though are
Bruegger s, Manhattan Bagel, Einstein Bros. and Starbucks Coffee. With Dunkin
Donuts grave dependence on its supplier, Harold s Bakery, they are experiencing some
13. Muslim Women Face Veil
See Beyond My Eyes
I was always interested on how Muslim women have to wear a burqa (full veil,
where even the eyes are hidden), niqab (face veil) or hijab (headscarf), and some
girls/women choose to wear the veil. There are many debates over if they should
ban the burqa to think women are forced by men in their lives to wear it. A lot in
Muslim countries, women lack in equality and even basic rights that other women
in other countries take for granted; the burqa is one example of patriarchal control.
Some women are forced to wear a burqa or niqab out of fear of being beaten,
arrested or be killed, and some women choose to wear a the veil is their choice and
their right. I started of brainstorming on how I will present the Muslim culture
14. Sexual Swellings And Reproduction Of Female Baboon
Sexual Swellings/Reproduction The female baboon has a menstrual cycle just like
human females have (Alberts et al., 2015; Altmann et al., 2015; Fitzpatrick, 2015).
While the human menstrual cycle lasts for 5 7 days, the baboon s menstrual cycle
will last up to 35 days (Alberts et al., 2015; Altmann et al., 2015; Fitzpatrick, 2015).
When estrus approaches, the femalebaboonwill develop large swellings on or near
the vulva, perineum, and anus (Alberts et al., 2015; Altmann et al., 2015; Fitzpatrick,
2015). These swellings attract males, and plenty of baboon males will compete for
that female (Alberts et al., 2015; Altmann et al., 2015; Fitzpatrick, 2015). This
competition can become very violent, and whoever wins the competition,
reproduction will begin between him and that female (Alberts et al., 2015; Altmann
et al., 2015; Fitzpatrick, 2015).
The most dominant male will mate with most estrous females (Alberts et al., 2015;
Altmann et al., 2015; Fitzpatrick, 2015). After ovulation is over, the female s
swellings rapidly decrease (Alberts et al., 2015; Altmann et al., 2015; Fitzpatrick,
2015). That female will no longer be attracted to males, and will care for herself
and her young (Alberts et al., 2015; Altmann et al., 2015; Fitzpatrick, 2015). After
six months, one infant is born (Alberts et al., 2015; Altmann et al., 2015; Fitzpatrick,
2015). The young baboons are mainly black in color (Alberts et al., 2015; Altmann et
al., 2015; Fitzpatrick, 2015).

Outstandingly, American Non commissioned officers have performed
commendably in their discharge of their duties worldwide. Every soldier is entitled

soldiers who can effectively perform in small units. Hence it is very essential for the

16. Summary Of The Film Muriel s Wedding
The film Muriel s Wedding is set in the fictional town of Porpoise Spit, Australia
and follows the journey of self discovery of the young woman Muriel Heslopp. In
searching for marriage, the idea which she thinks will validate her as a person, she
finds herself. In the film, the character of Rhonda helped me to understand the
important message that friendship acts as a catalyst for self discovery. The director
PJ Hogan uses the techniques of music, cinematography and dialogue to help
communicate that idea.
The first technique, music, is used in mainly in the setting of Hibiscus Island, the
fictional honeymoon destination in which Muriel meets Rhonda for the first time
since Year 10. Muriel and Rhonda are performing in a talent show, with the song
Waterloo by ABBA. The song symbolises the real Muriel, who is present in this
scene. Rhonda encourages Muriel to be herself, confidently. This allows Muriel to
truly understand who she really is, the beginning of her journey of self discovery.
The music is particularly significant, with lyrics in the song such as knowing my
fate is to be with you which represents the friendship between Rhonda and Muriel.
The song Waterloo is significant as a whole too, because it s about a battle, which
symbolises the interior battle of Muriel between her true self and the self who
conforms to societies expectations. Rhonda singing the song with Muriel
foreshadows how Rhonda will help Muriel through her internal battle and help her
eventually reach self discovery.
The next technique, which is used in several different scenes is cinematography. In
the scene in which Muriel is trying on wedding dresses behind Rhonda s back,
cinematography is used to communicate the message that friendship acts as a
catalyst for self discovery. Just before Rhonda is about to leave for rehabilitation,
she enters Muriel s room and finds a photo album full of photographs of Muriel in
various wedding dresses. The next shot is and Extreme Close Up (XCU) on
Rhonda s confused face. Her face appears worried and quite puzzled as she tries to
figure out what was going on. This XCU shot shows how much Rhonda cares about
Muriel and the extent to which Rhonda cares about Muriel s wellbeing. Later in that
scene,

Darkness Brings the Fear out
Being in the dark brings most people fear, and with fear comes hallucinations and
visions. In the movie Donnie Darko, Donnie, the main character, gets too familiar
seeing things and getting told what to do by things that are not real that he thinks it is
normal. Roth acknowledges the fact that science has not discovered everything there
is to know about human behavior and mental illness. Schizophrenia being one that
does not get looked into enough. In the film Donnie Darko, the lighting is so dark and
gloomy that something bad must be brewing up inside Donnie.
In the book The Achievement Habit by Bernard Roth, he goes into depth on
studying human behavior, and how there will never be a solution to all of it. Roth
says I wish that we did know all the things that are claimed. Although there is a lot
of good and even great science, I do feel claims of scientific verification are at times
exaggerated and unwanted when it comes to human behavior. (Roth 119) What can

In order to ease the lives of authors, editors, and trees, we present a manual and an
example of the use of Microsoft Word and similar tools for creating documents for
EasyChair based electronic and on paper publishing of workshop and conference
proceedings.
1Introduction
The styles and parameters of this guide are designed for compliance with the
requirements for publication in the EasyChair conference system (Voronkov, 2004),
and are also applicable to the Procedia publications series by Elsevier Science.
EasyChair is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The references (or the bibliography) section of the article is created by clicking on
the Bibliography button in the References section of the ribbon control mentioned
above (or under Bibliographies in the Document Elements tab of the ribbon control in
Microsoft Word for Mac). After inserting this section, the style of its header should be
set to References.
The automatically generated References section may need to be explicitly updated to
reflect further changes done in the bibliography. When clicking on the automatically
generated text of the section, a Bibliography button will appear in the text and offer a
menu with an update command.
This feature is not available in Microsoft Word 2003, so if you are reading this
guide as a Word 2003 XML document, citations and the bibliography will appear as a
static text and will not be updated automatically.
4Adding Figures and Tables
In Microsoft Word, pictures can be inserted into the document by going to Insert
Picture From File... on the menu and selecting the desired file. To simplify working
with the image, it is recommended that you insert the picture into a text box. In
order to make it into a figure and add a caption, select the image by clicking on it
and then go to Insert Caption... (or Insert Reference Caption... in earlier versions of
Microsoft Word). From here, you can select the position of the caption (this should
be set to below the image) and edit the text within it. Make sure
21. The Tradition Of Golf And Golf Essay
Tradition of Golf
For years, golf has been one of the oldest and most traditional sports. As the
equipment and golf courses have changed, the etiquette and rules have not. In golf,
etiquette has been a major part of the game. Staying quiet on the course and
repairing divots are a few examples of proper formality. Common rules include teeing
the ball between the tee markers and marking your ball on the green. Along with
these guidelines, there are rules that are controversial and seem unfair to golfers.
Golf has changed a lot since it first started in 1297, where a leather ball was hit into
a hole and the fewest strokes won. The golf clubs and balls have changed
significantly and the number of options for clubs has increased as well. They have
gone from wooden drivers to drivers made of complex blends of elements that
make the ball fly higher and farther. Since the golf clubs and balls have all been
improved, it s a surprise that some of the rules haven t been changed to make the
game fairer.
As a college golfer, I play the game and encounter situations where the rules can
seem unfair and frustrating. The same goes with all other golfers, they have been
in the same situations where the game punishes you for hitting a good shot. I ve
realized that we don t have a voice in changing the rules in the game of golf. I ve
also discovered that the game will most likely stay the same and not change any of
the rule. A big part of the game is knowing that you re going to catch bad

24. Una Chica Afroperuan Video Analysis
The construction of blackness as an othered subject A common element in the
videos of Una Chica Afroperuana is the reference to being perceived as an Other
by other non afro descendant Peruvians, and the conflict between this and her self
identification that is also rooted in her national origin. In the first video of the vlog
titled Things Afro Peruvians are tired of hearing , she identifies the continuous
questioning by referring to phrases as where are your really from? , You don t look
Peruvian and You are too pretty to be Peruvian . When addressing these questions,
she interacts with other people inside of the video and comments on the lack of
representation that the Afro Peruvians have in the media, by pointing this as one of...

When exemplifying her understandings of blackness within a national context, she
often refers to the erasure of Afro Peruvians from the national narratives and the
limitations of their inclusion in the nation construction processes. To N Gom, the
discourses used to describe the Afro Peruvians are full of omissions and distortion
and affect permanently the representation of Afro descendants without little
possibilities of modification (N Gom, 2010); and, to Natalia, the understandings of
blackness are often the spectrum of national identity, which is a consequence of the
historical invisibility that this population has had over

Antigone, when your sister, Ismene, tries to die with you, why do object her?
ANTIGONE: When I decided to bury my brother against the King s will, I asked
Ismene did she wanted to help bury our brother, which of course she said, no and
that she didn t want to disobey the king. To which I understand but I was angry, we
as women shouldn t be servants to men. So, when she decided to be killed with me
I didn t want my sister to claim on something that I only did by myself. Not only
that, I wanted her to regret that she decided that staying alive and disobey the gods
was more important than burying our brother. Also, I didn t like how she was
being so submissive under men because she was afraid to die. INDIA: I understand
what you mean. Your response is very welled explain. I also think that it s weak
being submissive under men instead of standing up for what you believe in. O to
the next question, if it were someone else in your brother position, would you have

not then no. Besides me loving my brother and not wanting to disobey the Gods I
feel as though it wouldn t pertain to me unless we were close. INDIA: Thanks for
your honesty. The next question goes to The Watchman. If fate would have it, what
would you have done if you didn t find Antigone? THE WATCHMAN: First, I

26. Descriptive Essay About A Glass Island
Looking around me, I see an abundant amount of green plants and sand. I felt the
micro grainy sand between my toes. Realizing that I m not in my cozy bed, I start
panicking, trying to remember what happened. All I remember is that it was a
devastating shipwreck. I woke up here not knowing what happen for I blacked out
after the ship had crash into something. I sigh knowing that there s nothing I could do
except sit there and wait for help. Nevertheless, I decided to wander around.
There were so many things surrounding me I didn t even know where to begin. I
started by taking in a deep breath and smelled the salty scent of the sea. Before I
could focus on what s around me, I felt the scorching heat from the sun beaming on
my skin. In contrast to the heat, I felt the subtle cool breeze blowing through my hair.
Bringing my attention to what s ahead of me, I hear the sea crawling onto the
shore. I walked towards the crystal clear water hoping that by putting my feet in it
would help me cool off. Although it was hot, the water was unexpectedly cold.
Taking my feet out, I started making my way towards the green scenery. I hear birds
chirping and faint sounds of trees rustling from the light breeze as I was walking.
The first thing I noticed was the sign that said Glass Island and the bushes
surrounding it. I bent down to touch the pieces of tree trunk scattered on the ground.
The tree trunk left my fingers fascinated, for it was a texture I ve never felt before.

27. What Is The Difference Between Epic And Homeric Epics
Epic and Homeric Epics
Epic was one of the highest literary forms. Its cultural and historical significance was
such that entire societies could be well defined by and through it. In this essay, I
would try to define and explain the terms, epic, and then talk briefly about their
significance in ancient Greece.
What is an epic?
For ancient Greece, according to A handbook to literature, there is the simplest
definition for epic: it is a long narrative poem in elevated style presenting characters
of high position in adventures forming an organic whole through their relation to a
central heroic figure and through their development of episodes important to the
history of a nation or race. (Harmon Thrall, 2003) And, one of the most influential ...

Homeric epics (mainly the Iliad and the Odyssey) have been significant for
historical reasons for what they have recorded to the ancient Greece tradition. The
Iliad and the Odyssey were probably composed between 750 BC and 700 BC. The
events in the epics should take place during the Mycenaean period (1600 1100 BC).
Homeric epics played as the main non dramatic role of presentation of the serious
side of ancient Greece tradition. This seriousness has been felt to catch something
of what is essentially ancient Greece. They preserve the historical traces on
Mycenaean civilization which placed in the Greek Peloponnese. They give the
appearance of being an advanced culture: owning its bureaucracy, palace based, and
it had even invented a new syllabic writing form called Linear B. Commerce and
trade may deliver the linking between Mycenaean civilization and Troy. According
to Reading Epic, The Mycenaeans were active maritime traders. One of their trading
regions was the littoral coast of Turkey. Some historical records suggest that it was
here in north western Asia Minor, not far from the Aegean and the Hellespont, that
Troy was situated. The ruins of an ancient stronghold, these days called Hissarlik,
may represent the site of what was once Troy. (Toohey,
28. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Historical Cost
Accounting
1.Academicians as well as practitioners have long debated the issue of historical cost
accounting versus current value accounting.
The historical cost is the original nominal monetary value of the items purchased.
Based on the historical cost concept, it states that the amount of the assets acquired
should be recorded with the original amount paid at date of acquisition and should
include all costs necessary to get the asset in place and ready for use. Historical cost
helps to distinguish an asset s original cost from its current replacement cost, current
market cost and inflation adjusted cost as it does not generally reflect the current
market valuation. It is never adjusted for the future market or economy changes and
inflation. For example, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The one of the advantages is the historical cost can be verified. The cost of
purchases at date of acquisition is documented with contracts, invoices and
payments. It is useful in matching the changes in profits or expenses relating to the
asset purchased, as well as determining the past opportunity costs. With historical
cost accounting, managers have the resources to forecast the future operational
costs. On the other hand, FASB has decided to use the historical cost principle
because it is reliable and objective. It is also easy to use and understand. The
disadvantages of historical cost accounting include that it does not evaluate the
current market value. It does not really tell the financial users how much the assets
are currently worth. Furthermore, historical cost accounting does not record the
opportunity cost of using the old assets. It does not record the loss in real value of
assets as a result of inflation or the gain in real value of assets as a result of deflation.
It is claimed that it is not useful for financial information users to compare the
corporate s performance over time. Lastly, the financial information in historical cost
concept presents an old interest rate and outdated

A utopia is an imagined place or state of things in which everything is perfect, (

on earth where human beings are all living together in real peace, with real

Has Utopia Failed? ). The failure of a utopia can be a snowball effect. One flaw in
the system can cause the entire society to be unsuccessful whether there is a problem
with communication, ignorance of both the people and the government, or a
rebellion of society. All are ways which prove that utopias in literature are never

Mind Control Methods of 1984 and Today. Everyone wants more money. That s
why people go to college to make more money. That s why people rob banks to get
more money. That s why people do unethical business moves, to receive more
money. We are living in a money hungry society. People want more money because
they know that money is power. This power allows us to change, shape and mold
society into exactly what we want. This forming and shaping can make a society
more productive which means more profitable. Yet, it is impossible to sit back and
hope that a society will conform to what will make you rich. Every society, whether
real or fiction, uses mind control methods, to get what they want. In the book 1984,

At Winston s job in the ministry of truth, he re writes history to show that Big
Brother is always correct. Winston has constant reminders that Big Brother , the
leader of the Inner Party, is always watching and regulating his daily events. The
Inner party makes such rules, so that the lower parties become weaker and weaker
and less chance of rebellion. The spirits and pocket of the people are empty. This
is good for the Inner Party because it keeps them in power, which is in turn richer.
Yet, Winston rebels against Big Brother and wont let the government control him
in such a way. Winston is viewed as the last humanist. He is interested with the
basic God given rights of humans. Whether it is, keeping a secret diary to preserve
the truth, having forbidden sexual affairs or denouncing the party by refusing to
adhere to their false facts, Winston stands up for his beliefs until he can take no

are more subtle than those in 1984 but still have the same premise. The mind
control methods used are aimed to achieve the same goal as in 1984, that goal being
power. Since we live in such a narcissistic and materialistic society, power entails
having money. The more money you have, the more powerful one can be. By using

reading accuracy and fluency test. That can be administered quickly, it provides an
well organized means of monitoring the growth of two kinds of word reading skills
that are critical in the development of overall reading ability: the ability to precisely

The Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) are a series of

critical component skills required to learn to read. This study was conducted to

Cold Fusion: The Continuing Mystery
In March of 1989, a discovery was made that rocked the scientific world. Stanley Pons
and Martin Fleischman had announced that they were able to create and sustain a
cold fusion process. After intense media attention, and corresponding interest in
future test, the subject seemed to have faded away. Future tests proved inconclusive,
and when the quick promise of easy energy didn t materialize, most quickly forgot the
subject. Little is said about the continuing research in the scientific community to
further our understanding of the free energy enigma. Is it science fiction, on the border
of legitamete science, or is it a practical field worthy of serious attention?

Cold fusion is only produced three out of ten times under the best conditions, but this
is enough to justify continued research. The first transitors were only successful one
out of a hundred times until the mechanisms were completely understood. The
science of the reaction taking place in cold fusion is still not clear. When pieces of
the puzzle begin to fit together better, the success rate will increase, and yields will
go up.
The actual set up of a cold fusion cell is an electrolyte such as hydrogen or
deuterium in which a electrode made of specially treated and prepared steel is
immersed. The lattice structure of the metal is filled with the hydrogen, where the
fusion occurs. The problem is most metals fracture when subjected to these
conditions. High loading is the state in which the metal survives, and begins to
produce energy. There are numerous different methods and materials that are used to
accomplish this goal. The original was a Heavy water solution with an electrolyte, in
which a current is passed between a palladium alloy electrode. Several other new
methods are in use today but the most promising is the Ceramic Proton Conductor. In
this case, a low current is passed through a strontium cerium oxide in deuterium
atmosphere. The reaction gives off significant excess energy.
Cold fusion differs significantly

Have you ever dreamed of going on an amazing journey with some of your best

one of their friends, who mysteriously went missing on Halloween night. They
travel through space and time, and meet a lot of people, but stay focused on the
task at hand. Even though The Halloween Tree, by Ray Bradbury, deserves its
awards, it does not deserve to be on the Pre AP book list. Imagery, sense of humor,
development of characters, plot twist, and a conclusion that strongly ties up he book.
These are all key qualities a book should have in order it to be beloved by society.
You would think all authors would publish their books with these qualities, right?

Some books, obviously, have to be more or less mature depending on who the
audience is supposed to be. If an author publishes a book about Struggles in High
School , a fourth grader would not be expected to read it. The same goes for high
schoolers, they should not have to read a book about Struggles in The Fourth
Grade . Books on the Pre AP list should not be like this either, but they are. The
Halloween Tree is a prime example. In this book, there are eight kids whose goal
is to find their missing friend. There is nothing wrong with that story line, but
there is a problem when an author turns that creative plot to a bad plot. This book
is just too young and childish to be on the Pre AP list. There is one point in the
book when pumpkins come to life and start having a friendly conversation with
these eight kids and point them to the person that can help them find their missing
friend. Another example is when the eight kids make a kite and fly it over the
undiscovered country to find their friend. Many more examples can be found in the
book. It is safe to say this book should not belong on the Pre AP

There is always a debate surrounding the question of whether kids should be taught
Spanish as a second language or not. There is the need to fully qualify our child for
the world and yet, we hesitate in helping children reach their full potential. Studies
have proven time and time again that the part of the brain responsible for learning
languageis most responsive at the age of 3 6. If we teach children to be bilingual
we give the child a greater opportunity to expand his or her potential. Our country is
a nation of immigrants and Spanish is a language spoken by a large sector of the
population. When people argue against it being taught as a second languagethey are
doing a disservice to themselves, their children and the nation.
If there is no disadvantage to learning the language what could be the possible
objection? Sure, parents would be willing to say why isn t their cultural language

At the moment in terms of economics China and India are the biggest threats to the
US. China and India remained closed economies for decades, now; they realize the
need to open their borders. Each of the two countries is allowing its citizens to
learn English in order to deal with the language challenges offered in the 21st
century. The two nations have always cherished their cultures and proudly present
them, yet, they know to be a part of the world economy they need to learn English
and become bilingual so they do, without making it a conflict of cultures. If they
begin to learn Spanish as well, they will simply outpace the US in every
43. Who Is Fitzgerald s Life In The Great Gatsby
Works of art often portray aspects of the creator s life unique to their character.
Through literature, readers may gain incredible insight into the lives of authors from
a first hand account. In The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, this is no exception.
Fitzgerald intertwined himself throughout the story by crafting his characters based
off of his life and others surrounding him. In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald uses his
characters to reflect the ambitions, shortcomings, and experiences of his own life.
Fitzgerald s life and his novel both mirror the livelihood of the time period, the yearn
for a Golden Girl, goals that were both met and never achieved, and the apparent
struggle between old and new money.

Jay Gatsby did not hail from old money, rather, he acquired his own wealth built
from an insignificant background Gatsby was new money. He held a resentment
for his meaningless roots, and at a young age he decided to erase any trace of his
impoverished past starting with his name James Gatz that was really, or at least
legally, his name. He had changed it at the age of seventeen...I suppose he d had
the name ready for a long time, even then. His parents were shiftless and
unsuccessful farm people his imagination had never really accepted them as his
parents at all, (Fitzgerald 104). Gatsby hid behind his new name and established a
facade that encompassed his very being. He was embarrassed that he was not born
somebody, and his hard earned wealth did not erase the fact that he was not a pure
breed of the upper class. The name was not enough, Gatsby knew that for him to be
old money, he must have lived the life of old money, so he invented just the sort of
Jay Gatsby that a seventeen year old boy would be likely to invent, and to this
conception he was faithful to the end, (Fitzgerald 104). In Gatsby s eyes, a
somebody was not only wealthy, but they themselves were pristine money. With
this idea in mind, Gatsby dubbed himself old money using a tale that could never
be proven or disproven I am the son of some wealthy people in the middle west all
dead now. I was brought up in America but educated at Oxford because all my
ancestors have been educated there for many years. It is a family tradition.
(Fitzgerald 68). This is the reality that Gatsby made for himself, and the reality
Fitzgerald dreamed for, whether it be an effect of the rejection from his Golden Girl,
or because posh lifestyle and background was a tempting social class of the time.

44. Latin America Sparknotes
Juan Gonzalez argues that the Latino population in the United States continues to
grow at an unprecedented rate. Americans have feel high levels or insecurity when it
comes to the Latino populations and Gonzalez argues that it is due to the lack of
knowledge in addition to the growing anti immigrant rhetoric that is being created by
the Republican party. The transformation of the United Statesis incredibly massive
and by 2050 1 out of 3 will be of Latin American descent and if these numbers
continue to grow by 2100 half of the populationwill be Latino. Juan Gonzales
expresses that the central theme of his book is the huge Latino presence in the United
States and the role of the United States in Latin America, therefore understanding the
Latino presence in the American nation is completely due to the harvest of empire
that the United States has create, which is a result of over a century of domination....

It outlines the stories of immigrants from Mexico, Cuba, Dominican Republic,
Nicaragua, Guatemala and El Salvador. It also explores the experiences of Puerto
Ricans, who although they are US citizens, have a similar history of Latino
immigrant experience because in many cases they did not know the language and
face huge levels of discrimination. Gonzalez explores the connection between the
long history of United States interventions in Latin America and the conflict around
the struggles for citizenship. He gives us a clear vision of the role that economic and
military interests of United States have played in triggering a wave of migration that
