Thomas Herzog Essay
My argument is how sustainable architecture can be used and how it can benefit the Earth and it s
residence in an environmental or cost effective way. Thus, leading to exploration of the different
forms, of technology and materials used. Further developing my research on how culture, or time,
might have affected, what or why, the building might have been constructed in a certain way, and also
how the location might have affected the designs, of the buildings.

The layout of the house is divided into a series of four parallel linearly zones, each having it s own

Capital Punishment During The Colonial Era
The public opinion within the United States on capital punishment has fluctuated since its early
establishment during the colonial era. The debate about the use of capital punishment has been shaped
by factors such as class, gender, age but most importantly race.
During the colonial era, Britain was the biggest influence on America when it came to utilizing the
death penalty. The death penalty was used for minor offenses such as stealing, killing animals, and
trading with Indians. As the late 1700s approached, a movement towards abolishing the death penalty
began. Beccaria wrote an essay in 1767 called Crimes and Punishment, that had a significant impact
on the world s opinion towards the death penalty (Bohm,1999). Beccaria suggested ... Show more

Zimring began to research executions by different regions in the United States and noted the
similarities between historical lynching trends and current patterns in the use of Capital punishment
(Gabbidon and Greene). Throughout the research Zimring conducted, he noticed that there was a
strong correlation between legal lynchings and death penalty executions after lynching were made
illegal. The data indicated through 1889 to 1918 that 88 percent of lynchings were carried out in the
South. In comparison, through 1977 to 2000 81 percent of executions were held in the South
(Gabbidon and Greene). In conclusion, Zimring believed that the death penalty is a racialized system
that has replaced lynchings. This created a renaissance of capital punishment between the 1920s and
1940s. During the 1930s, there was an average of 167 executions each year. These annual numbers
were similar to the number of lynchings recorded in the 1890s (Vandiver, Giacopassi, Lofquist, 2006).
After this era, the support for death penalty began to slowly decline, as 42% of people showed support
for the death penalty in the 1950s (Bohm,1999).
Following the decline in the support of the death penalty, a moratorium on executions began in 1972
during the case Furman v. Georgia. Furman argued that the death penalty was arbitrary and violated
the constitution (Mallicoat and Brown 255 280). In a five to four vote, the Supreme Court

Peoria Notre Dame High School Research Paper
The best day I have ever had at Peoria Notre Dame High School was September eleventh of 2014
because it was my birthday. That morning I was so happy and filled with excitement. I came into
school and everyone was happy to see me. Even people I barely knew were happy to greet me with a
sincere birthday congratulations. It was awesome because I had so many new friends and all of us
were joyful on that day. Throughout all my days here at Peoria Notre Dame I look forward to lunch.
That day was no exception especially because it was chicken Thursday. When I got to my seat at lunch
I was soon after greeted by the smiling face of Mrs.Mattarelli. She had in her hands not one, but two
cookie cakes. I was thrilled for two reasons. The first was

Essay about Leonard Peltier Should be Released from Prison
Leonard Peltier is currently serving time in the Leavenworth federal penitentiary for the shooting
deaths of two Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) agents. According to FBI documents, at around
11:50 A.M. on June 26th, 1975, agents Jack Color and Ron Williams were supposedly searching for
Jimmy Eagle, a thief wanted for stealing a pair of cowboy boots. The agents encroached on the
Jumping Bull Compound in Oglala, South Dakota of the Pine Ridge reservation, in two separate
vehicles that no one could recognize (Incident). In this area, there were several members of the
American Indian Movement (AIM). After the intrusion of the agents, someone and it is unsure who
fired a shot and a shoot out began. By the end of the shoot out at Pine ... Show more content on

In fact, the evidence is so inconclusive, contradictory, and vague that reasonable doubt abounds when
one tries to objectively look at the evidence at hand.
The evidence linking Peltier to the shooting of the either of the agents is non existent. First, there are
major problems with linking Peltier to any gun that may have caused a fatal injury. According to FBI
documentation, the FBI found a damaged AR 15 rifle in the burned out car of another AIM activist,
Robert Robideau, who was also at the Jumping Bull Compound on the day of June 26, 1975
(Incident). The FBI later would assert that the gun was Peltier s, and that it was matched to a shell
casing found in the trunk of one the agents cars.
However, according to a documented FBI ballistics test carried out on October 12, 1975, the AR 15
rifle found in Robideau s car didn t match bullet found on the scene; even if it is assumed to be Peltier
s gun, the gun cannot be linked to any bullets found in the crime scene (Incident). The FBI also did
another, less effective form of test on the bullet that showed that the bullet might have come from the
damaged gun. (Incident) However, since the second method of testing was more prone to fault, error,
and interpretation of the agents, it should not be used in light of the first. The best the FBI could prove
from the test was that the bullet came from

Clay Jannon Literary Analysis
Ever since the introduction of humans on Earth, homo sapiens have dominated this planet. However,
despite human superiority, there have been many times in history where people continue to perceive
different incidents and occurrences in one way, however, in reality, these occurrences have a much
deeper meaning. In the novel, Clay Jannon goes beyond the misunderstanding of life and travels deep
into the real world to find the meaning of life. Robin Sloan, the author of the story, Mr. Penumbra s 24
hours Bookstore, devoted his novel to explain the misconceptions of appearances versus the real life.
Moreover, in the story the author gives a number of examples related to this topic; however, there are
three main precedents that occurred in the story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, later on during Clay s investigation to reveal the secluded truth, the reality of the Dragon
Chronicles was revealed and it had a much deeper meaning than what the world initially believed.
After Mr. Penumbra s explanation of why Clark Moffat s codex vitae was conserved in the world s
most secret library, Clay thought to himself, the third volume blows middle school minds because it s
a total curve ball. The tone shifts... the plot goes of the trail and began to obey some hidden logic.
People always assumed that Clark Moffat was doing psychedelic drugs, but the truth was even
stranger (Sloan 196). The release of the book initiated the misconception of people pertaining to the
thought that Clark Moffat was mentally ill; however, in reality, the book was a codex vitae made to
decode Manutius book of life. Furthermore, Clark Moffat found the other message in the book of life,
that the key to immortality is one s name and characteristics mentioned in a story which will live
forever. In conclusion, humans are a superior race, advancing towards the future every day, however,
despite people s ability to understand reasons, humans continue not look beyond the presented
appearance to perceive the reality, similar to the precedent of the Dragon Chronicles which occurred

Similarities And Differences Between 1848-1861
The periods from 1763 1776 and 1848 1861 are similar in that they both share an escalation and
polarization problems, but even with the similar they are still different and lack consistency when
comparing the two periods in American history. The obvious is that both took place on American soil.
The led up to the American Revolution had many issues that the colonies were growing anger over
how the British Government handle them. An issue that can be compare between the both would be
the Dred Scott v Stanford court case and the trial of the British soldier after the Boston Massacre. The
cases are similar in that one side wanted this to be an example for their cause. The colonies wanting
the nine soldiers to be killed. While the South wanted Scott ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The South threaten leaving the Union, because of the election of 1860 with Lincoln winning it. The
South did not want to lose their way of life and felt the only way would be to leave the Union. The
similarity in polarization of the two periods is that the farmers both times were on the side of
rebellion. The differences is that the American Revoulation was an east verves west, for example
North Carolina. The farmers who live in the west hated anything that the eastern city folks supported.
The eastern normally supported the British government and big business, so the farmers in the west
would just hate the British, because of the fact that people in the eastern supported them. The led up to
the Civil War was north verves south. This is showed through all of the compromises leading up to the
secession, for example the the Great Compromise of 1850. The North wanted California to enter as a
free state. The South feeling that their will lose power in Congress wanted the North to pass stricter
laws that would enforce the Fugitive Slave laws. The north got California and the south got the

Fredrick Douglass Response to Uncle Tom s Cabin
Frederick Douglass was arguably the most prominent African American abolitionist during the mid
19th century. He established his notoriety through his narrative entitled Narrative of the Life of
Frederick Douglass, an American Slave published in 1845. Frederick Douglass also produced an
African American newspaper, Frederick Douglass Paper, which highlighted the reception and critiques
of Harriet Beecher Stowe s Uncle Tom s Cabin. Frederick Douglass praised Uncle Tom s Cabin
through not only his writing but in the critiques and letters contained in his newspaper. It is important
to look at these reviews to understand Douglass intentions. However, C.V.S. from the Provincial ...

Ethiop also hopes the novel s impact will continue to look out until every Uncle Tom is restored to his
God given rights his full manhood till every vestige of justice is done him (Ethiop).
On 2 December 1853, Douglass himself wrote and published a letter to Harriet Beecher Stowe
concerning her added involvement in abolitionism in Frederick Douglass Paper. In this letter Douglass
directly, under his own name, praises Uncle Tom s Cabin as a useful tool in the fight for abolitionism.
He writes, I desire to express, dear Madam, my deep sense of the value of the services which you have
already rendered my afflicted and persecuted people, by the publication of your inimitable book on the
subject of slavery. That contribution to our bleeding cause, alone, involves us in a debt of gratitude
which cannot be measured . . . . (Douglass) . By writing this letter, Douglass establishes the novel as
both valuable and sympathetic to the plight of the enslaved African American. His stature as the
premiere African American abolitionist affirms this to the public.
However, Douglass politics on colonization were in direct opposition to Uncle Tom s Cabin. C.V.S., a
writer for Provincial Freeman, writes about Douglass, . . . [H]e pronounces colonization in Africa a

Adeline Yen Mah s Characters In Chinese Cinderella
Adeline Yen Mah had done an extraordinary job at writing Chinese Cinderella. I believe she has done
an even better job at achieving her goal. The author hints multiple reasons for writing this story. Her
dedication page was written for the children who weren t loved by their parents. In Mah s dedication
page, She says that you are not alone and to use her story to encourage yourself. This leads me to infer
that she wrote this because she wants to comfort unwanted children. However, I believe Mah had
more intentions for writing this story. It was painful and difficult for me to write this, (Preface xi).
Mah had never told anyone the truth about her family. Everyone thought Mah had a loving family
until they went to her home for a surprise party. ... Tell them to gun dan (get lost) and never come here
again, (Chapter 14, 115). She took a slap from her stepmother and was humiliated in front of all her
friends and schoolmates. People go to the therapist for these kinds of things, but she stayed strong.
Even after years of rejection, she tried to reunite with her family. She wrote a book called Falling
Leaves only after finding out that she had been cut out of Niang s will. ...But she felt compelled to
[write the story], (Preface xi). For us to truly understand why this upset here, she shows us what her
life was. In an interview, you can see that Mah still gets emotional with her story because all she
wanted was love from her family. She wrote Chinese Cinderella because she

The Effects Of Exorcism On The Evil Spirit
In all aspects of life, people come across things that simply cannot be explained. Whether people
choose to believe something or not; it still is prevalent in life. Exorcism is the expulsion or attempted
expulsion of an evil spirit from a person or a place (https://www.google.com). In horror films, the
main focus during the exorcism is on the evil spirit. Films have negatively drawn our attention to evil
spirit because it is more interesting to watch. But in reality, behind every exorcism there is an exorcist
that risks his life to save another: And the exorcist, who risks more than anyone else in an exorcism,
flits across the screen as necessary but, in the end, not so interesting as the sound effects (Martin 8).

An exorcist risks his life during an exorcism and has to be prepared for the end result he may die or a
part of him may die. Many exorcists are not the same after they come in contact with pure evil.
(Martin 10). Not all exorcisms are preformed because of the possession of another human being. In
fact, most exorcisms are preformed in haunted buildings infested with evil spirits, which is known as
demonic infestation. The other types of infestation are oppression and possession. Oppression is when
a demon focuses on a particular person and possession is when the person has allowed the demon to
take over its whole body. The most common form, demonic infestation, occurred in the Cranmer
house. Bob Cranmer had bought his childhood dream house. But, after a few months of living there, a
demon had made itself present. Bob Cranmer had brought in Father Mike Salvagna, a priest, and
Adam Blai, a psychiatrist, to get rid of the demon. The demon s name was Moloch, whom was usually
associated with child sacrifice in the Old Testament. Moloch was in complete control of all possession
in the house. After the priest threw holy water on the walls, Moloch fought back by making the walls
bleed; which there was no scientific evidence in how the blood had gotten there. The strange part of
this story is that the demon did not cause a scene as the priest preformed the exorcism. Bob Cranmer

Hope in the Shawshank Redemption
Shawshank Redemption Essay Question 8: Analyse how specific techniques were used to portray
inspiring ideas in a visual; or oral text. Directed by Frank Darabont, The Shawshank Redemption tells
the Story of Andy Dufrane, a man who has been wrongly convicted of murder and must endure life
inside the harsh and corrupt Shawshank prison, but despite this he never loses hope of finding
freedom. Hope is an important inspiring idea in this film, as it is what sustains him during the long and
difficult years within the prison, and it is the result of this enduring hope that Andy finally finds
freedom. There are many visual and oral techniques used throughout the film to portray the idea of
hope. This includes the hope that Andy holds, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At this point the lighting is very bright and natural. This small glimpse of the outside world
reinvigorates Andy s hope and sustains him through his time at Shawshank. We drank beer like free
men said Red, showing how this small act represented so much freedom for the men. But the light in
this scene was bright evening light, the last glimpse of light at the end of the day before becoming
darkness. This symbolises that Andy s hope is only fleeting, soon he must return to the confines of
Shawshank, A language feature used in The Shawshank Redemption to show hope is dialogue. In
particular there is Reds voice over narration, which shows how Reds opinion of hope changes
throughout the movie. Andy is a symbol of hope in Shawshank, and it is not only Andy s hope that
grows but he also affects the inmate around him. When Andy first tells Red of his dream to go to
Mexico, Red says; Hope is a dangerous thing. It will drive a man insane, it has no place here. This
shows how Red thought that hope was pointless and futile. This also shows how the prison could take
away a man s hope; even turn him bitterly against the idea of it. It is only when Andy eventually
makes his escape that the inmates realise how truly powerful hope is. When Red is released from
prison and make his way to Mexico, he says; I hope the Pacific is as blue as it is in my dreams. I hope.

Advantages Of Multiparticulate Drug Delivery System
1.1 Multiparticulate drug delivery systems (MDDS):
Multiparticulate drug delivery systems (MDDS), widely used for oral route of administration, it
consist of multiple number of small discrete units that having different characteristics. It is based on
subunits such as pellets, microspheres, granules, beads, spheroids and minitab. These subunits shows
various advantages as compare to monolithic devices. In MDDS, active pharmaceutical ingredients
are divided into number of subunits, typically consist of thousands of spherical particles having
diameter of about 0.05 mm to 2.00 mm. To administer or to recommend total dose these subunits to be

The drug is mostly released from multiparticulates by following mechanism
1. Erosion Coating with the erodiable polymers to erode gradually with time thereby releasing the
drug contained within particle. The drug release mostly depends on the characteristics of polymer
which shows the erosion and responsible for drug release. It shows zero or first order kinetics.
2. Osmosis Osmotic pressure can built up within the interior of particle to allow water to enter. The
drug is forced out of particle into exterior through coating. The osmotic pressure is responsible for
drug release in which drug passes from higher concentration to lower concentration through semi
permeable membrane.
3. Diffusion On contact with aqueous fluids in Gastro intestinal tract, water diffuses the interior of the
particle. The drug dissolution occurs and drug solution diffuses across the external release coat. The
diffusion principal shows release which depends on concentration and drug. It shows the zero order
kinetics.

1984 Personal Response Essay
Fear is something all humans share. This unity of having fear connects all of us together, along with
many other things. Fears themselves are not universal, and every human may have different fears. In
the novel 1984 written by George Orwell many common fears are brought into perspective, many of
which I can say I fear myself. While the question asked for the implications of the ending, for me to
fully understand the ending I must start from the beginning. The concern about the truth of history and
truth of the past, that the people in power are always watching you, and not being allowed to have real

The British Museum Exhibition Of A Nation s Cultural...
Soft power was popularized as a term in the 1990s when Joseph Nye wrote of the ways a nation s
cultural resources constitute a form of power that enhances, or even substitutes for military and
economic strength (Hunter 2009, 374 5). In this case, China is utilizing its cultural resource, the
terracotta army, to propel themselves forward without the use of military or business tactics. It can be
inferred that China is using peaceful means to project its power onto the world stage, through culture,
art, and artifact (Hunter 2008, 284). China is placing a highly orchestrated (literally, curated) story into
the minds and eyes of hundreds of thousands of exhibition goers in all of the powerful, wealthy,
Western countries of the world. Specific vocabulary is being used, specific music, imagery, and
lighting, is being selected and projected. A very specific story is being told in each of these
exhibitions. The British Museum exhibition utilized imagery of stone faces, not illuminated to see the
details, but drenched in stripes of darkness to emphasize the mysterious, subterranean existence of the
statues. (Portal and Kinoshita 2007). Press releases from Atlanta s High Museum emphasized the
legacy of the iconic, magnificent warriors. (High Museum 2008). The Canadians called the Chinese

Father Diego Dur An Advocate For The Aztecs Of The Aztec...
Father Diego DurĂĄn was a Dominican priest in Mexico after the Spanish conquest of the Aztec
Empire. He was born in Selville, Spain in 1537 but moved to New Spain as a child. He originally
lived in Texcoco but eventually moved to Mexico City and became a priest in 1556. He became fluent
in the native language Nahuatl and gained the inhabitants trust with his understanding nature and
respect for their culture. He used his experiences and access to first hand knowledge to write three
books, The Ancient Calendar, The History of the Indies of New Spain, and The Book of Gods and
Rites, collectively known as the DurĂĄn Codex.
DurĂĄn was an advocate for the Aztecs living in New Spain, but he was still a Catholic priest who saw
everything he did through the lense of potential conversion. During his extensive study of the local
culture he came to see the parallels between his faith and indigenous religion as evidence of
Abrahamic religion having been brought to the New World and corrupted by the Devil. The only way,
according to DurĂĄn, to truly root out the satanic practices of the Mesoamerican religions was to
understand them. He wrote the DurĂĄn Codex to both help that missionary work and satisfy his own
curiosity.
The Book of Gods and Rites was written from 1574 to 1576. Fifty years before that, Hernan Cortez
had taken over the Aztec Empire and toppled it s capital city Tenochtitlan. After the Spanish took over

Business Risks and Inherent Risks
Starbucks success depends significantly on the value of their brands and failure to preserve their
value, either through their actions or those of their business partners, could have a negative impact on
their financial results. Brand value is based in part on consumer perceptions on a variety of subjective
qualities. Business incidents, whether one time or recurring and whether originating from Starbucks or
their business partners, that weaken consumer trust, such as actual or perceived breaches of privacy,
contaminated food, recalls or other potential incidents discussed in this risk factors section,
particularly if the incidents receive considerable publicity, including rapidly through social or digital

The Importance Of An Ecosystem
An ecosystem is a biological community of interacting organisms and their physical environment. An
ecosystem consists of biotic factors and abiotic factors. The biotic factors of an ecosystem are the
living organisms, while the abiotic factors of an ecosystem are the temperature, climate, sun, and the
weather. The ecosystem being researched is the Great Barrier Reef. The Great Barrier Reef is located
right off of Australia. The Great Barrier Reef has around 400 types of coral and 1,500 species of fish.
It has more than 3000 different reef systems. The Great Barrier Reef is one of the natural wonders of
the world, and for good reason. On the Great Barrier Reef lives the Whitetip Reef Shark, Triaenodon
Obesus, prefers to eat crabs and octopi, as well as other animals of the sea. The scientific name for the
octopus is Octopoda. The relationship between the Whitetip and the octopus is an example of
predation. Predation is the preying of one animal on other animals. The species of octopi are usually
mostly carnivores, although some are omnivores. The Whitetip Reef Shark species is also a
carnivorous species. Another organism that lives on the reef is the sea cucumber. The sea cucumber, or
Holothuroidea, is a decomposer that lives on the reef floor and eats animal wastes as it crawls along. A
threat to the reef, specifically the coral, is the Acanthaster planci, otherwise known as the crown of

considering what is best for the animals. The public has been misled and misinformed about the
benefits of holding marine animals in captivity. Only small fraction of the licensed zoo s, aquariums,
and marine parks in the United States are actively involved in education and conservation efforts.
Most operate mainly for profit and entertainment purposes (Rose, Farinato, Sherwin, 2006). Marine
parks have a variety of exhibits that display animals performing tricks in shows for the public s
entertainment, arguing that it makes the experience of seeing marine mammals more memorable. Such
shows provide no educational value, in regards to the animal s natural behaviors. Studies have shown
that the information the parks provide is often factually incorrect and distorted to portray the park as
more beneficial than it actually is (Rose, Farinato, Sherwin, 2006). These facilities try to hide

Pros And Impacts Of Effective Communication In The Workplace
EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION 2
Effective Communication In the workplace, there is no way around not communicating. You will
always be put in a situation where you will always have to communicate with someone, whether it is a
co worker or your boss. The main thing about communication is being able to do it effectively.
Depending on the job, communication skills can make the difference between life and death (Adler,
Elmhorst, Lucas, 2013). Effective communication in the workplace can be challenging at times.
Communication is a process (Adler, Elmhorst, Lucas, 2013). I have 26 guards that work under me and
they vary from age, gender, and race. I cannot communicate with a 60 year old female the same way I
would communicate with a 25 year old male. Once I learned my workers and what worked for each of
them, I was able to get my point across to each one of them. The approach may have been different
but the outcome was the same. It helps knowing which communication behaviors employees use
routinely and effectively to be of benefit when supervisors promote employees to take on additional
communication tasks (Keyton et al., 2013). Not everyone knows how to effectively communicate,
therefore it is important to make sure you have a good communicator when it comes to promoting
jobs. Employees are expected to communicate effectively by those they communicate with or on
behalf of (Keyton et

The Shock Is A Life Threatening Condition Of Circulatory...
Shock is a life threatening condition of circulatory failure that most commonly presents with
hypotension. The effects of shock are initially reversible but can rapidly become irreversible, resulting
in multi organ failure (MOF) and death. when a patient present with undifferentiated hypotension, it is
important that the clinician rapidly identify the aetiology so that appropriate therapy can be
administered to prevent MOF and death (Vincent, 2013).
Assessment of hemodynamic status in a shock state remains a challenging issue in Emergency
Medicine. Early recognition and appropriate treatment of shock have been shown to decrease
mortality (Moore and Copel, 2011; Volpicelli, 2011). In case of medical emergencies there may not be
enough time to perform detailed diagnostic procedures and eliminating any imminently life
threatening conditions from the possibilities is always challenging in a busy ED.
Shock is defined as circulatory insufficiency that leads to under perfusion of organs in the body, which
can result in multi organ failure. Undifferentiated shock refers to the situation where shock is
recognized, but the cause is unclear. In general shock can be classified into 4 subtypes (Tintinalli,
2010):
Hypovolemic shock this happens as a result of severe blood or fluid loss as can be seen in
haemorrhage, rupture of aortic aneurysm, severe diarrhoea, vomiting.
Distributive shock this type of shock happens when the core intravascular volume is insufficient to

Analysis Of The Poem The Optimist
Joshua Mehigan s second poetry collection following, The Optimist, presents an anthology disclosing
rhyme, meter and colloquial speech/diction infused with realist narratives and monologues bathed in
the surreal lucid elements of the subconscious. Mehigan s collection discusses the inevitability and the
gravitating novelty of change as well as the facing of ones demise in both the literal and figurative
sense. Whether it is an everlasting smokestack, the evaluation of a road post car accident, a town that
never changes, a man on his death bed or the excitement of seeing dreary Christmas play falling apart,
or someone slowly losing their sanity. Mehigan tackles complicated concepts with scenarios that are
entertaining to the reader but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mehigan s tendency to let his imagery and small monologue statements traverse the narrative is
expertly exerted in this poem to discuss the concepts of change and being contempt in consistency.
Mehigan closes the poem with a simple, yet powerful and intelligently constructed, statement which
mirrors the opening line of the poem Nothing here ever changes, till it does (3). When this line is
earlier voiced it is said in an almost omniscient third person indirect which gives validity of such a
claim a potent degree of confidence that nothing here will ever change. As the poem ends though the
restated line has its confidence and validity shifted to the almost inevitable degree of change that is to
come.
Mehigan discusses very complex universal truths and philosophies by entertaining the reader in the
collection with a series of seemingly simple tales, displayed in a degree of multiple formats,
centralized around a specific object, setting, or statement which precedes the text by being placed
within the poems titles. This consistency found within the collection helps guide the readers focus and
fuses his ideologies with something physical to give the readers a tangible example/experience in an
effort to not only give clarity to the poetry collections interpretative meanings but be novel in its
execution, with a show not tell concept. Mehigan displays the ability to talk about issues of love,
death,

Led Night Light Research Paper
Options In Emergency Lighting During A Power Outage
When your power goes out at night, it can be a dangerous situation if you have to stumble around in
the dark to find a flashlight or candle. If you ve not used a flashlight in a long time, you may not even
know where it is. This makes it difficult to get to your kids in a hurry when they might be afraid or
roaming around the house looking for you. A solution is to install lights that automatically come on
when the power goes out. Here are some options to consider.
LED Night Lights With Battery Power
LED bulbs are ideal in battery powered lights because they last a long time and don t use much
energy. You can buy lights that plug into an outlet and come on automatically when the power shuts
off. While these lights don t light up the entire room, they illuminate the floor area like a traditional
night light or lamp does so you can walk around your home safely. Some of these night lights double
as a remote control that will turn on other lights not plugged into a socket.
You may want to mount a battery powered LED light to the ceiling so it will cast light downward on a
table or kitchen counter. It s a good idea to have an emergency light near each ... Show more content

You might want a light like this that doubles as a flashlight. It sits in a charger to act as a night light on
a nightly basis, and when the power goes out, you can grab it for portable use as a flashlight. You can

light. These usually don t last as long since they use more power, but you can turn them off to
conserve power if you need to. The disadvantage to relying on lights you have to recharge is if they go
dead before the power comes on, then you won t have any lights. Battery powered lights could be a

Essay on Pepsi In Cuba
How attractive to PepsiCo is the proposal to buy 30% of Deltex for 1.1B pesos (US$360M)?
Based on the information in the case, Pepsi could invest US$360 million in exchange for 30% equity
of Deltex. So we have to calculate the value of 30% equity of Deltex. First, we calculated the discount
factor by using average unlevered beta of US independent bottlers, US 10 year Treasury bond as risk
free rate and assuming market risk premium 10%. We came up with 9.83% of WACC. Next, we
calculated Deltex free cash flow and terminal value and then converted them into US dollar value.
Now with WACC and total cash flow, we had NPV of the company. So we deducted current debt from
NPV and came up with the value of US$360M investment equal to 59.99% of ... Show more content

It had increased its market share to about 50% in each of its regional markets and remained highly
profitable. Deltex was also one of the few Pepsi bottlers in Mexico whose share had risen since the

b. Deltex was in the most populated region in Mexico. Densely populated and allowed centralized
access to a large number of potential customers. It was a market that Pepsi could not miss.
c. Pepsi distribution system had become inefficiency and fragmented and lacked scale advantages. It
needed to consolidate its bottling group, to build new packaging capacity and expand new territorial
scope. Deltex could help Pepsi to achieve this goal. It already had 88,000 points of sales, and owned
subsidiaries which manufactured plastic bottles, bottle caps, containers and packaging materials.
d. Deltex s president Adolfo Sanchez had the expertise of the industry know how knowledge. He was
a bottler by profession and knew the Mexican bottling business well. He also had developed strategies
to modernize the production lines and promotional campaigns.
Downsides
a. Pepsi s US$360M investment was too expensive. Based on our calculation, this investment was
worth almost 60% of Deltex equity. However, in the proposal, Pepsi would only receive 30% of
Deltex equity.
b. Pepsi might not be able to organize and control the Deltex joint venture in the same way as were
with previous two joint ventures since Sanchez wanted to remain in control of the

Pyramid Lake War of 1860
One of the biggest conflicts between the settlers and Indians in Nevada was the Pyramid Lake Indian
war of 1860. The war and deaths that followed was a result of tension, ignorance, anti Indian attitude
and misunderstanding. The war was preceded by violent incidents against both the whites and Indians
and consisted of two larger battles. The Washoe and Paiute tribe s lives changed with the influx of
settlers that came with the Comstock mining rush. Nevada being a desert had limited resources and the
settlers came in and started using them without care. The whites cut down pine trees that were a food
source to the tribes, they dug big holes while mining for minerals, and they hunted the game of the
area. The use of these limited resources caused tension between the whites and the Indians and
settlers. Several murders of whites, including two men McMullen and McWilliams, were widely
blamed on Paiutes. The lack of effective government in the area meant that there was no formal
judicial response to these incidents, leading to private retribution and a general atmosphere of fear and
distrust. In the case of McMullen and McWilliams the Washoe Indians were framed for murder.
McMullen was headed to California to gather supplies, when he and McWilliams were murdered by
their campfire. Both men had been shot and arrows had been inserted into their wounds. Everyone
blamed the Indians for the murder of the two men. When asked how they knew it was the Indians they

The Descending Control Mechanism Activates Once Noxious...
The descending control mechanism activates once noxious stimuli reaches the higher level processing
area of the brain. Inhibition can occur through opiate release
Descending Pathways
The descending pathways involved in pain utilise efferent motor nerves (gamma motor neurons).
These pathways are involved in analgesic response or motor response to pain.
pain modulation with brain areas(Tracey Mantyh, 2007) pain modulation with brain areas(Gebhart,
2004) areas work together through inhibition or facilitation of nociceptive signals.
Monoamines such as; serotonin, norepinephrine, or dopamine mediate modulation in the DH by
binding to their according receptor subtypes of the afferent nociceptive fibres (Millan, 2005; Zhao et
al., 2007; Pertovaara, 2006)

activated by the spinomesencephalic tract, it releases a pentapeptide known as enkephalin, an
endogenous ligand that binds to the delta opioid receptors in the body. A low level of analgesia is
produced (Varga, et al, 2004; Carrive, 1993). Initiates inhibitory response to noxious stimuli by
activating the rostral ventromedial medulla (RVM) (Fields, 2006) the second section of the PAG RVM
DH inhibitory pathway. The RVM projects bilaterally to the DH via the dorsolateral funiculi and

A Report On Tata Motors
I. Core Problem / Issue
Tata Motors has continued to increase its presence in the car industry throughout Asia and the world,
but especially in their home country of India. From their goal of providing innovative affordable
products for the masses, they have expanded from commercial vehicles into passenger cars, becoming
India s largest automobile company. As part of their global expansion strategy, Tata Motors acquired
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) in 2008, which allowed them to move into the higher end car market. The
timing of which proved difficult, due to global recession. The latest innovative product that Tata has
developed is the Nano, a low cost car designed to compete as a safer and more comfortable alternative
to 2 wheeled vehicles in India. Tata was able to find a Blue Ocean with this product. The Nano s
release in 2009 was a resounding success, with over 206,000 orders in the first year. The interim plant
was able to produce 50,000 vehicles the first year, with the new plant expected to have a capacity of
350,000 vehicles in 2010. Initial estimates put the potential market demand for vehicles similar to the
Nano near one million units per year in India, with the potential to expand to global markets. Global
automakers have plans to start production of ultra low cost (ULC) vehicle, so this will be a highly
competitive market. The core problem for Tata Motors is that they need to decide if they continue as
planned with their production of only 250,000 vehicles or if

Fredrick Douglass Essay
The purpose behind Fredrick Douglass s Narrative was to appeal to the other abolitionists who he
wanted to convince that slave owners were wrong for their treatment of other human beings. His goal
was to appeal to the middle class people of that time and persuade them to get on board with the
abolitionist movement. Douglass had a great writing style that was descriptive as well as convincing.
He stayed away from the horrific details of the time, which helped him grasp the attention of the
women who in turn would convince their husbands to help by donating money and eventually ending
slavery. He used his words effectively in convincing the readers that the slave owners were inhuman
and showed how they had no feelings for other human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This meant that these bastard children were slaves despite their paternal heritage because their mother
was a slave. The effect of this revelation was to shock and offend the morals of the conservative
Northern whites. Northern society scorned people in adulterous and interracial relationships. By
portraying these Southerners as immoral and adulterous, Douglass wanted to cultivate in his audience
a damaging opinion of southern slaveholders (Quarles ix).
Continuing with the theme of family values, Douglass shifts to the basic family unit. Their master
separated Douglass and his mother when he was an infant, for what reason he does not know
(Douglass 2). No one gave Douglass an explanation because this situation was customary on
plantations. Douglass wanted to horrify his Northern white readers by informing them that
slaveholders regularly split slave families for no apparent reason. This obviously would upset
Northerners because the family unit was the foundation for their close knit communities. Multiple
generations and extended families lived together or near each other. It was unimaginable to the readers
that a society existed that took children away from their mothers without reason. Northerners would
think of anyone who was part of such a society as a heartless monster (Quarles ix).
Another example of how Douglass used family values against southern slaveholders was in the
treatment of his grandmother. When Douglass s master decided

The Importance Of Language In Hamlet By William Shakespeare
A man with a unique manipulation of language had the power to captivate minds centuries ago, and
yet his legendary voice is still heard today. William Shakespeare was the man of his time at the
forefront of drama and play writing. It is no wonder he stood as a noble character by the king, because
his literary works were so cherished by all of the people. His audience praised him, and they
understood him, however, the language that was recognizable to them might be more unfamiliar to us.
As an illustration, one might ponder why Shakespeare chose to assert in the famous tragedy Hamlet
that This above all; to thine own self be true. A modern audience might translate the phrase to mean
the most important thing is to look after yourself , but why is the phrase written in such a peculiar
way? There is a certain rhythmic pattern along with distinct tools embedded in Shakespeare s voice
that one must explore... and then the audience can fully become one with his thoughts and brilliant
mind.
First and foremost, one of the most appreciated tragedies written by Shakespeare is Macbeth. In this
play the audience observes a loyal general transform into a betraying tyrant and establishes his own
downfall, commencing with the murder of his own king. Undoubtedly, this piece of literature is rich in
rhetorical devices and mechanisms that illuminate Shakespeare s words. Chiefly, the primary
mechanism for which Shakespeare delivers is known as Iambic Pentameter . This tool consists

It gives you a look at how difficult it is to adjust and live happily in a foreign environment. Americans
normally stereotypically categorize immigrants of particular cultures. Making it extremely stressful
for them to adjust as I learned from this film immigrants come to America for a better life. Meaning
they are willing to change their ways and become an American. Most of us refuse to give them the
time of day, even though they try. I had very little knowledge about Indian culture and traditions
previous to watching this movie. For example I did not realize how young these women are when
taking the step to get married.

Was The Atomic Bomb Justified Dbq
Dropping the bomb could kill up to 1 million soldiers. Was it worth it? Dropping the bomb, only over
100,000 people were killed. That s saving 900,000 lives. I do believe that dropping the bombs on
Hiroshima and Nagasaki was necessary. Here are the reasons why: Japan s surrender could have ended
the war faster, the attacks could have gotten worse as time in the war gained. Japan had already caused
great damage to the United States.
Another key thing to remember is the war could have ended sooner. In document two, we learned that
President Truman didn t want to drop the atomic bombs, but it would hopefully lead the war to an end.
He did not like the idea. But was persuaded that it would shorten the war against Japan and American
lives. We needed to get Japan to surrender. They didn t want to surrender unconditionally and refused.
Japan didn t surrender until September of 1945, The war could have gone on longer.
Attacks could have progressively gotten worse as the wartime progressed. Document one showed us
that the bomb was very powerful, yet there was a more powerful artillery in the making. In their
present form these bombs are now in production and even more powerful forms are in development. It
was to spare the Japanese people from utter destruction... If they do not accept our terms they may

Pearl Harbor killed just under 3,000 people. The Kamikaze raids also caused a great deal of deaths.
Over 3,500 Japanese Kamikaze raids had already wrought great destruction and loss of american lives.
(Document 4.) Truman believed that this would also save lives. Saving American lives along with the
lives of the Japanese. He was correct. Instead of killing the 1,000,000 predicted, it only ended with a
bit over 100,000 lives loss. That is 900,000 people that could have died that didn t. Truman believed
that the bombs saved Japanese lives as well. (Document

The Paris Peace Settlement, 1919-1920
CHAPTER X
THE PARIS PEACE SETTLEMENT, 1919 1920 The military disaster which befell the Mid European
Confederacy in the autumn of 1918 was the signal for immediate political revolutions within its
members. The revolutions, though precipitated in several instances by Socialists, proved to be
uniformly mild and more conducive to democratic nationalism than to any basic social change. In
Germany Prince Maximilian, the Chancellor on whom the Emperor William II imposed the unpleasant
task of opening peace negotiations with the Allies, sought to allay domestic unrest by promising in
October a number of constitutional reforms. But the more he promised in the way of reform, the
louder grew the demands for an overturn of the whole monarchical ... Show more content on

In the imperial Dual Monarchy of Austria Hungary, the revolution of 1918 1919 was not only
democratic but disruptive. In vain the Emperor King Charles I published a conciliatory manifesto on
October 16, 1918 promising to reorganize the monarchy on a federal basis so that each of its
nationalities would possess democratic autonomy. By this time it was too late for compromise.
Leaders of the subject nationalities were resolved on achieving a separation from the Habsburg
Empire, and the collapse of the Austro Hungarian armies removed the means which Charles might
have employed to enforce obedience. On October 18, a group of Czech patriots, including Thomas
Masaryk and Eduard Benes, proclaimed at Paris the deposition of Charles of Habsburg as King of
Bohemia and the independence of the Czechoslovakian Repubic. Ten days later, a self constituted
Czech national council took over the government at Prague, and the next day a similar national
council in the Slovak provinces of Hungary voted for a union of the Slovaks with the Czechs in a new
Czechoslovakia. A national assembly was speedily convened at Prague. In November it ratified what
had been done and chose Masaryk as President of the Republic, with Benes as foreign minister, and
eventually in February 1920, after protracted debates, it adoted a democratic constitution. The
southern slavs of Austria Hungary revolted simultaneously with the Czechs and Slovaks in the north.
On October 29, 1918, the

Essay on Civilization Versus Savagery in Golding s Lord of...
Man has demonstrated that he is master of everything except his own nature. This quote from Henry
Miller demonstrates that even the best of people can be tempted and twisted by their own nature. Like
the symbolic pig’s head stuck in the calm forests clearing, all beauty and innocence can be mutated
when order is overthrown by impulse actions. In William Golding’s novel, Lord of the Flies, a central
theme exists demonstrating the deterioration of civilization, and the overpowering of savagery, leading
to the abandonment of moral thoughts and actions within a person. The beauty of the island is burned
away slowly as the fiery demon of savagery attempts to overwhelm the boys. The beauty of the island
symbolizes the charm of law and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Piggy acts as a conscience when rumors of ghost and monsters are spread, and he ends the gossip by
explaining ghosts are not logical or scientific, meaning they do not exist. Piggy uses his smarts to
make sundials for the boys to keep track of the time, and with Ralph’s combination of leadership, the
two boys begin to form what looks like the beginnings of a civilized camp. Civilization exists in the
children, as they follow Ralph’s initial commands and help build the first shelter. They don not fully
understand why they act civil, but their morals passed on by parents or self growth guide them during
the first portion of the book. Golding uses the combination of Ralph and Piggy to show the roots of
civilization, and the peace that morals bring, and the other boys to show the balance factor of feeling
obligated to act civil. They use law as a protective companion, making rules for only speaking when
holding the conch, to prevent yelling and fights. Jack even shows a civil side to his mind, when first
establishing their camp, crying out, We’ll have rules! Lot’s of rules! (33) The fact that Golding
would show that Jack, the symbol of savagery, has some civil thoughts, indicates that he is conveying
the idea that civilization exists in even the most immoral people. Jack retains a sense of moral
propriety and behavior that society leaves impressed on a person. Rodger, the

Deception In The Importance Of Being Ernest
The truth is rarely pure and never simple. The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde, is a story
in which the attitude and dialogue simply distinguishes each character for who they truly are.
Additionally, the key setting of The Importance of Being Earnest revolves around the idea of
deception. Throughout the story, the characters begin to unveil their actual backgrounds after
committing the act of telling a variety of lies. Correspondingly, in this victorian era society the
character live in, it is ingrained in the minds of individuals that marriage has everything to do with
status; or in this case, the name. One character in particular that caught my attention was Algernon
Moncrieff. I believe this because through the use of deception, Wilde manages to contribute to the
work as a whole through his bravado attitude, comedic relief, and the honest threaded into his lies. ...

To be more specific, it is easy to identify Algernon as one of the most laid back characters, as chaos
passes by. An example of this deceit is when he asks for Gwendolyn s hand in marriage. In this
instance, he begins to lie about his name, simply because Gwendolyn does not seem to be interestested
in a man named Algernon. In the act of these lies, Algernon manages to stay loose, and follow through
with his attitude. Due to this, he gives a filter to the readers that everything is okay, even though
towards the end, all the truth is

Examples Of Developmental Leaps
Often times when I was very young I would go through developmental leaps, when I was two I went
through a period of time where I was learning about systems. This leap caused me to become crankier
than usual and often times I misbehaved simply because I could. As my mother tells the story, she
explained that she was having a hard time handling me while she was pregnant with my sister. She
understood her own emotions in this situation; she was overwhelmed, overworked, and frustrated. In
this situation Leanne was demonstrating a sense of self awareness, but her emotional intelligence does
not stop. She also understood the essence of self management, she was able to create a self assessment

her blood is rare and often times at a high demand. As she put it it is my responsibility to give blood, I
have a rare blood type and taking an hour out of my time to potential save someone s life is
responsibility I have to the community. As we got older she volunteered for every opportunity to work
with the school, whether it was a field trip supervisor or working in concession stands at football

`` Everything Rises With Leadership But Falls As A Tragedy

Prof. Weekes
ENGL 140

Troy Maxson
Everything rises with leadership but falls as a tragedy, said Alexander the Great, before his Battle of
the Hydaspes, where his army suffered many casualties and marked the end of his military campaign.
In history, there have been many downfalls. A few examples, Marcus Brutus was responsible for the
downfall of Julius Caesar. Fighting a two front war against England and Russian empires led to the
downfall of Napoleon. Many historians call those events tragedies. The word tragedy originates from
the Greek word tragōidia , meaning the goat song, which is not what society associates as a tragedy in
current times.
Today, tragedy is understood as a disastrous event, that involves an enormous loss of life (ex: terrorist
attack, natural disaster, etc.), which gains widespread media attention for public perception and world
understanding. As a literary term, tragedy in a fictional narrative, typically drama involves a sorrowful
event, where a good individual, who through a character flaw and/or conflict with an overwhelming
effect, experiences setbacks of fortune from success to adversity and becomes a tragic individual.
Tragedy usually involves the death of one or more characters (including the tragic individual) caused
by the actions of a tragic individual and/or the villain in the literary work of art. (Aristotle)

Training is a very important the implementation plan. During the project planning phase, deciding on
project goals, project costs, and communication about deadlines and resources. Within the
architectural design phase, decisions on programming languages or vendor selection are made. Data

Testing Software quality assurance is a very important part of the software development and
installation. The main objective of quality assurance is to avoid problems or to detect them as soon as
possible (Shelly, Cashman Rosenblatt, 2003, p. 410). The best case scenario is to have four instances
of the system, a testing environment, a user acceptance environment, a production environment, and a
training environment. The program can be tested on the testing and user acceptance environments. The
initial and most important step of the testing phase is creating the test plan. The test plan should
include what features and functionality will be tested based on the confirmed requirements. The next
step is unit testing or code review. Unit testing involves the QA person testing the code on their
machine. Once code has passed the unit test, it will then be released to the testing environment for
system testing. The QA person can then test the integration of the different modules of the code as a
program rather than separate parts as well as to find and report bugs and any data inaccuracy. The next
phase of testing is the user acceptance test. In this phase the users test the program for functionality
and data accuracy. The test phase isn t a linear phase, more of a circular, back and forth between the
developers and the QA people. After all phases have passed, the next step would be to open a change

Thus, leading to exploration of the different forms, of technology and materials used. Further developing my research on how culture, or time, might have affected, what or why, the building might have been constructed in a certain way, and also how the location might have affected the designs, of the buildings. Thomas Herzog was born in 1941, In Germany. • 3. Capital Punishment During The Colonial Era The public opinion within the United States on capital punishment has fluctuated since its early establishment during the colonial era. The debate about the use of capital punishment has been shaped by factors such as class, gender, age but most importantly race. During the colonial era, Britain was the biggest influence on America when it came to utilizing the death penalty. The death penalty was used for minor offenses such as stealing, killing animals, and trading with Indians. As the late 1700s approached, a movement towards abolishing the death penalty began. Beccaria wrote an essay in 1767 called Crimes and Punishment, that had a significant impact on the world s opinion towards the death penalty (Bohm,1999). Beccaria suggested ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Zimring began to research executions by different regions in the United States and noted the similarities between historical lynching trends and current patterns in the use of Capital punishment (Gabbidon and Greene). Throughout the research Zimring conducted, he noticed that there was a strong correlation between legal lynchings and death penalty executions after lynching were made illegal. The data indicated through 1889 to 1918 that 88 percent of lynchings were carried out in the South. In comparison, through 1977 to 2000 81 percent of executions were held in the South (Gabbidon and Greene). In conclusion, Zimring believed that the death penalty is a racialized system that has replaced lynchings. This created a renaissance of capital punishment between the 1920s and 1940s. During the 1930s, there was an average of 167 executions each year. These annual numbers were similar to the number of lynchings recorded in the 1890s (Vandiver, Giacopassi, Lofquist, 2006). After this era, the support for death penalty began to slowly decline, as 42% of people showed support for the death penalty in the 1950s (Bohm,1999). Following the decline in the support of the death penalty, a moratorium on executions began in 1972 during the case Furman v. Georgia. Furman argued that the death penalty was arbitrary and violated the constitution (Mallicoat and Brown 255 280). In a five to four vote, the Supreme Court ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That morning I was so happy and filled with excitement. I came into school and everyone was happy to see me. Even people I barely knew were happy to greet me with a sincere birthday congratulations. It was awesome because I had so many new friends and all of us were joyful on that day. Throughout all my days here at Peoria Notre Dame I look forward to lunch. • 5. Essay about Leonard Peltier Should be Released from Prison Leonard Peltier is currently serving time in the Leavenworth federal penitentiary for the shooting deaths of two Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) agents. According to FBI documents, at around 11:50 A.M. on June 26th, 1975, agents Jack Color and Ron Williams were supposedly searching for Jimmy Eagle, a thief wanted for stealing a pair of cowboy boots. The agents encroached on the Jumping Bull Compound in Oglala, South Dakota of the Pine Ridge reservation, in two separate vehicles that no one could recognize (Incident). In fact, the evidence is so inconclusive, contradictory, and vague that reasonable doubt abounds when one tries to objectively look at the evidence at hand. The evidence linking Peltier to the shooting of the either of the agents is non existent. First, there are major problems with linking Peltier to any gun that may have caused a fatal injury. According to FBI documentation, the FBI found a damaged AR 15 rifle in the burned out car of another AIM activist, Robert Robideau, who was also at the Jumping Bull Compound on the day of June 26, 1975 (Incident). The FBI later would assert that the gun was Peltier s, and that it was matched to a shell casing found in the trunk of one the agents cars. However, according to a documented FBI ballistics test carried out on October 12, 1975, the AR 15 rifle found in Robideau s car didn t match bullet found on the scene; even if it is assumed to be Peltier s gun, the gun cannot be linked to any bullets found in the crime scene (Incident). The FBI also did another, less effective form of test on the bullet that showed that the bullet might have come from the damaged gun. (Incident) However, since the second method of testing was more prone to fault, error, and interpretation of the agents, it should not be used in light of the first. The best the FBI could prove from the test was that the bullet came from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Clay Jannon Literary Analysis Ever since the introduction of humans on Earth, homo sapiens have dominated this planet. However, despite human superiority, there have been many times in history where people continue to perceive different incidents and occurrences in one way, however, in reality, these occurrences have a much deeper meaning. In the novel, Clay Jannon goes beyond the misunderstanding of life and travels deep into the real world to find the meaning of life. Robin Sloan, the author of the story, Mr. Penumbra s 24 hours Bookstore, devoted his novel to explain the misconceptions of appearances versus the real life. The release of the book initiated the misconception of people pertaining to the thought that Clark Moffat was mentally ill; however, in reality, the book was a codex vitae made to decode Manutius book of life. Furthermore, Clark Moffat found the other message in the book of life, that the key to immortality is one s name and characteristics mentioned in a story which will live forever. Similarities And Differences Between 1848-1861 The periods from 1763 1776 and 1848 1861 are similar in that they both share an escalation and polarization problems, but even with the similar they are still different and lack consistency when comparing the two periods in American history. The obvious is that both took place on American soil. The led up to the American Revolution had many issues that the colonies were growing anger over how the British Government handle them. An issue that can be compare between the both would be the Dred Scott v Stanford court case and the trial of the British soldier after the Boston Massacre. The differences is that the American Revoulation was an east verves west, for example North Carolina. The farmers who live in the west hated anything that the eastern city folks supported. The eastern normally supported the British government and big business, so the farmers in the west would just hate the British, because of the fact that people in the eastern supported them. The led up to the Civil War was north verves south. This is showed through all of the compromises leading up to the secession, for example the the Great Compromise of 1850. Her dedication page was written for the children who weren t loved by their parents. In Mah s dedication page, She says that you are not alone and to use her story to encourage yourself. This leads me to infer that she wrote this because she wants to comfort unwanted children. However, I believe Mah had more intentions for writing this story. Many exorcists are not the same after they come in contact with pure evil. (Martin 10). Not all exorcisms are preformed because of the possession of another human being. In fact, most exorcisms are preformed in haunted buildings infested with evil spirits, which is known as demonic infestation. The other types of infestation are oppression and possession. Oppression is when a demon focuses on a particular person and possession is when the person has allowed the demon to take over its whole body. The most common form, demonic infestation, occurred in the Cranmer house. Bob Cranmer had bought his childhood dream house. But, after a few months of living there, a demon had made itself present. Bob Cranmer had brought in Father Mike Salvagna, a priest, and Adam Blai, a psychiatrist, to get rid of the demon. The demon s name was Moloch, whom was usually associated with child sacrifice in the Old Testament. Moloch was in complete control of all possession in the house. After the priest threw holy water on the walls, Moloch fought back by making the walls bleed; which there was no scientific evidence in how the blood had gotten there. Directed by Frank Darabont, The Shawshank Redemption tells the Story of Andy Dufrane, a man who has been wrongly convicted of murder and must endure life inside the harsh and corrupt Shawshank prison, but despite this he never loses hope of finding freedom. Hope is an important inspiring idea in this film, as it is what sustains him during the long and difficult years within the prison, and it is the result of this enduring hope that Andy finally finds freedom. In particular there is Reds voice over narration, which shows how Reds opinion of hope changes throughout the movie. Andy is a symbol of hope in Shawshank, and it is not only Andy s hope that grows but he also affects the inmate around him. When Andy first tells Red of his dream to go to Mexico, Red says; Hope is a dangerous thing. It will drive a man insane, it has no place here. This shows how Red thought that hope was pointless and futile. This also shows how the prison could take away a man s hope; even turn him bitterly against the idea of it. It is only when Andy eventually makes his escape that the inmates realise how truly powerful hope is. Fears themselves are not universal, and every human may have different fears. In the novel 1984 written by George Orwell many common fears are brought into perspective, many of which I can say I fear myself. While the question asked for the implications of the ending, for me to fully understand the ending I must start from the beginning. The concern about the truth of history and truth of the past, that the people in power are always watching you, and not being allowed to have real emotions except towards the government are all fears brought on in the novel, especially with the implications of the ending. • 16. The British Museum Exhibition Of A Nation s Cultural... Soft power was popularized as a term in the 1990s when Joseph Nye wrote of the ways a nation s cultural resources constitute a form of power that enhances, or even substitutes for military and economic strength (Hunter 2009, 374 5). In this case, China is utilizing its cultural resource, the terracotta army, to propel themselves forward without the use of military or business tactics. It can be inferred that China is using peaceful means to project its power onto the world stage, through culture, art, and artifact (Hunter 2008, 284). China is placing a highly orchestrated (literally, curated) story into the minds and eyes of hundreds of thousands of exhibition goers in all of the powerful, wealthy, Western countries of the world. Specific vocabulary is being used, specific music, imagery, and lighting, is being selected and projected. A very specific story is being told in each of these exhibitions. The British Museum exhibition utilized imagery of stone faces, not illuminated to see the details, but drenched in stripes of darkness to emphasize the mysterious, subterranean existence of the statues. (Portal and Kinoshita 2007). Press releases from Atlanta s High Museum emphasized the legacy of the iconic, magnificent warriors. (High Museum 2008). • 17. Father Diego Dur An Advocate For The Aztecs Of The Aztec... Father Diego DurĂĄn was a Dominican priest in Mexico after the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire. He was born in Selville, Spain in 1537 but moved to New Spain as a child. He originally lived in Texcoco but eventually moved to Mexico City and became a priest in 1556. He became fluent in the native language Nahuatl and gained the inhabitants trust with his understanding nature and respect for their culture. He used his experiences and access to first hand knowledge to write three books, The Ancient Calendar, The History of the Indies of New Spain, and The Book of Gods and Rites, collectively known as the DurĂĄn Codex. DurĂĄn was an advocate for the Aztecs living in New Spain, but he was still a Catholic priest who saw everything he did through the lense of potential conversion. During his extensive study of the local culture he came to see the parallels between his faith and indigenous religion as evidence of Abrahamic religion having been brought to the New World and corrupted by the Devil. The only way, according to DurĂĄn, to truly root out the satanic practices of the Mesoamerican religions was to understand them. He wrote the DurĂĄn Codex to both help that missionary work and satisfy his own curiosity. The Book of Gods and Rites was written from 1574 to 1576. The biotic factors of an ecosystem are the living organisms, while the abiotic factors of an ecosystem are the temperature, climate, sun, and the weather. The ecosystem being researched is the Great Barrier Reef. The Great Barrier Reef is located right off of Australia. The Great Barrier Reef has around 400 types of coral and 1,500 species of fish. It has more than 3000 different reef systems. The Great Barrier Reef is one of the natural wonders of the world, and for good reason. On the Great Barrier Reef lives the Whitetip Reef Shark, Triaenodon Obesus, prefers to eat crabs and octopi, as well as other animals of the sea. The scientific name for the octopus is Octopoda. The relationship between the Whitetip and the octopus is an example of predation. Predation is the preying of one animal on other animals. The species of octopi are usually mostly carnivores, although some are omnivores. The Whitetip Reef Shark species is also a carnivorous species. Another organism that lives on the reef is the sea cucumber. The sea cucumber, or Holothuroidea, is a decomposer that lives on the reef floor and eats animal wastes as it crawls along. As Mahatma Ghandi, a leader of the Indian independence movement and renowned pacifist, once said, The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated . It is time that humanity puts an end to their need to own and contain the things that love; in turn considering what is best for the animals. You will always be put in a situation where you will always have to communicate with someone, whether it is a co worker or your boss. The main thing about communication is being able to do it effectively. Depending on the job, communication skills can make the difference between life and death (Adler, Elmhorst, Lucas, 2013). Effective communication in the workplace can be challenging at times. Communication is a process (Adler, Elmhorst, Lucas, 2013). I have 26 guards that work under me and they vary from age, gender, and race. I cannot communicate with a 60 year old female the same way I would communicate with a 25 year old male. Once I learned my workers and what worked for each of them, I was able to get my point across to each one of them. The approach may have been different but the outcome was the same. It helps knowing which communication behaviors employees use routinely and effectively to be of benefit when supervisors promote employees to take on additional communication tasks (Keyton et al., 2013). The effects of shock are initially reversible but can rapidly become irreversible, resulting in multi organ failure (MOF) and death. when a patient present with undifferentiated hypotension, it is important that the clinician rapidly identify the aetiology so that appropriate therapy can be administered to prevent MOF and death (Vincent, 2013). Assessment of hemodynamic status in a shock state remains a challenging issue in Emergency Medicine. Early recognition and appropriate treatment of shock have been shown to decrease mortality (Moore and Copel, 2011; Volpicelli, 2011). In case of medical emergencies there may not be enough time to perform detailed diagnostic procedures and eliminating any imminently life threatening conditions from the possibilities is always challenging in a busy ED. Shock is defined as circulatory insufficiency that leads to under perfusion of organs in the body, which can result in multi organ failure. Undifferentiated shock refers to the situation where shock is recognized, but the cause is unclear. In general shock can be classified into 4 subtypes (Tintinalli, 2010): Hypovolemic shock this happens as a result of severe blood or fluid loss as can be seen in haemorrhage, rupture of aortic aneurysm, severe diarrhoea, vomiting. A solution is to install lights that automatically come on when the power goes out. Here are some options to consider. Based on the information in the case, Pepsi could invest US$360 million in exchange for 30% equity of Deltex. So we have to calculate the value of 30% equity of Deltex. We came up with 9.83% of WACC. Next, we calculated Deltex free cash flow and terminal value and then converted them into US dollar value. Now with WACC and total cash flow, we had NPV of the company. • 27. Pyramid Lake War of 1860 One of the biggest conflicts between the settlers and Indians in Nevada was the Pyramid Lake Indian war of 1860. The war and deaths that followed was a result of tension, ignorance, anti Indian attitude and misunderstanding. The war was preceded by violent incidents against both the whites and Indians and consisted of two larger battles. The Washoe and Paiute tribe s lives changed with the influx of settlers that came with the Comstock mining rush. Nevada being a desert had limited resources and the settlers came in and started using them without care. The whites cut down pine trees that were a food source to the tribes, they dug big holes while mining for minerals, and they hunted the game of the area. The use of these limited resources caused tension between the whites and the Indians and settlers. Several murders of whites, including two men McMullen and McWilliams, were widely blamed on Paiutes. The lack of effective government in the area meant that there was no formal judicial response to these incidents, leading to private retribution and a general atmosphere of fear and distrust. In the case of McMullen and McWilliams the Washoe Indians were framed for murder. McMullen was headed to California to gather supplies, when he and McWilliams were murdered by their campfire. Core Problem / Issue Tata Motors has continued to increase its presence in the car industry throughout Asia and the world, but especially in their home country of India. From their goal of providing innovative affordable products for the masses, they have expanded from commercial vehicles into passenger cars, becoming India s largest automobile company. As part of their global expansion strategy, Tata Motors acquired Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) in 2008, which allowed them to move into the higher end car market. The timing of which proved difficult, due to global recession. The latest innovative product that Tata has developed is the Nano, a low cost car designed to compete as a safer and more comfortable alternative to 2 wheeled vehicles in India. Tata was able to find a Blue Ocean with this product. The Nano s release in 2009 was a resounding success, with over 206,000 orders in the first year. The interim plant was able to produce 50,000 vehicles the first year, with the new plant expected to have a capacity of 350,000 vehicles in 2010. Initial estimates put the potential market demand for vehicles similar to the Nano near one million units per year in India, with the potential to expand to global markets. Douglass had a great writing style that was descriptive as well as convincing. The effect of this revelation was to shock and offend the morals of the conservative Northern whites. Northern society scorned people in adulterous and interracial relationships. Continuing with the theme of family values, Douglass shifts to the basic family unit. Their master separated Douglass and his mother when he was an infant, for what reason he does not know (Douglass 2). No one gave Douglass an explanation because this situation was customary on plantations. Douglass wanted to horrify his Northern white readers by informing them that slaveholders regularly split slave families for no apparent reason. This obviously would upset Northerners because the family unit was the foundation for their close knit communities. Multiple generations and extended families lived together or near each other. It was unimaginable to the readers that a society existed that took children away from their mothers without reason. • 35. The Importance Of Language In Hamlet By William Shakespeare A man with a unique manipulation of language had the power to captivate minds centuries ago, and yet his legendary voice is still heard today. William Shakespeare was the man of his time at the forefront of drama and play writing. It is no wonder he stood as a noble character by the king, because his literary works were so cherished by all of the people. His audience praised him, and they understood him, however, the language that was recognizable to them might be more unfamiliar to us. As an illustration, one might ponder why Shakespeare chose to assert in the famous tragedy Hamlet that This above all; to thine own self be true. A modern audience might translate the phrase to mean the most important thing is to look after yourself , but why is the phrase written in such a peculiar way? There is a certain rhythmic pattern along with distinct tools embedded in Shakespeare s voice that one must explore... and then the audience can fully become one with his thoughts and brilliant mind. First and foremost, one of the most appreciated tragedies written by Shakespeare is Macbeth. In this play the audience observes a loyal general transform into a betraying tyrant and establishes his own downfall, commencing with the murder of his own king. Undoubtedly, this piece of literature is rich in rhetorical devices and mechanisms that illuminate Shakespeare s words. Chiefly, the primary mechanism for which Shakespeare delivers is known as Iambic Pentameter . This tool consists ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Paris Peace Settlement, 1919-1920 CHAPTER X THE PARIS PEACE SETTLEMENT, 1919 1920 The military disaster which befell the Mid European Confederacy in the autumn of 1918 was the signal for immediate political revolutions within its members. The revolutions, though precipitated in several instances by Socialists, proved to be uniformly mild and more conducive to democratic nationalism than to any basic social change. In Germany Prince Maximilian, the Chancellor on whom the Emperor William II imposed the unpleasant task of opening peace negotiations with the Allies, sought to allay domestic unrest by promising in October a number of constitutional reforms. In vain the Emperor King Charles I published a conciliatory manifesto on October 16, 1918 promising to reorganize the monarchy on a federal basis so that each of its nationalities would possess democratic autonomy. By this time it was too late for compromise. Leaders of the subject nationalities were resolved on achieving a separation from the Habsburg Empire, and the collapse of the Austro Hungarian armies removed the means which Charles might have employed to enforce obedience. This quote from Henry Miller demonstrates that even the best of people can be tempted and twisted by their own nature. Like the symbolic pig’s head stuck in the calm forests clearing, all beauty and innocence can be mutated when order is overthrown by impulse actions. In William Golding’s novel, Lord of the Flies, a central theme exists demonstrating the deterioration of civilization, and the overpowering of savagery, leading to the abandonment of moral thoughts and actions within a person. The beauty of the island is burned away slowly as the fiery demon of savagery attempts to overwhelm the boys. The beauty of the island symbolizes the charm of law and ... Piggy uses his smarts to make sundials for the boys to keep track of the time, and with Ralph’s combination of leadership, the two boys begin to form what looks like the beginnings of a civilized camp. Civilization exists in the children, as they follow Ralph’s initial commands and help build the first shelter. They don not fully understand why they act civil, but their morals passed on by parents or self growth guide them during the first portion of the book. Golding uses the combination of Ralph and Piggy to show the roots of civilization, and the peace that morals bring, and the other boys to show the balance factor of feeling obligated to act civil. They use law as a protective companion, making rules for only speaking when holding the conch, to prevent yelling and fights. Jack even shows a civil side to his mind, when first establishing their camp, crying out, We’ll have rules! Lot’s of rules! (33) The fact that Golding would show that Jack, the symbol of savagery, has some civil thoughts, indicates that he is conveying the idea that civilization exists in even the most immoral people. In history, there have been many downfalls. A few examples, Marcus Brutus was responsible for the downfall of Julius Caesar. Fighting a two front war against England and Russian empires led to the downfall of Napoleon. Many historians call those events tragedies. The word tragedy originates from the Greek word tragōidia , meaning the goat song, which is not what society associates as a tragedy in current times. Today, tragedy is understood as a disastrous event, that involves an enormous loss of life (ex: terrorist attack, natural disaster, etc.), which gains widespread media attention for public perception and world understanding. As a literary term, tragedy in a fictional narrative, typically drama involves a sorrowful event, where a good individual, who through a character flaw and/or conflict with an overwhelming effect, experiences setbacks of fortune from success to adversity and becomes a tragic individual. The main objective of quality assurance is to avoid problems or to detect them as soon as possible (Shelly, Cashman Rosenblatt, 2003, p. 410). The best case scenario is to have four instances of the system, a testing environment, a user acceptance environment, a production environment, and a training environment. The program can be tested on the testing and user acceptance environments. The initial and most important step of the testing phase is creating the test plan. The test plan should include what features and functionality will be tested based on the confirmed requirements. The next step is unit testing or code review. Unit testing involves the QA person testing the code on their machine. Once code has passed the unit test, it will then be released to the testing environment for system testing. The QA person can then test the integration of the different modules of the code as a program rather than separate parts as well as to find and report bugs and any data inaccuracy. The next phase of testing is the user acceptance test. In this phase the users test the program for functionality and data accuracy. The test phase isn t a linear phase, more of a circular, back and forth between the developers and the QA people. After all phases have passed, the next step would be to open a change ...
