Accounting Systems And The Financial Management
1.Companies create and maintain accounting systems because the accounting systems is an
important role in the financial management. They bring a lot of benefits in the business
management for accessing the financial statements, reporting business transactions, accounting pay
and fee, and minimizing the problems with tax authorities.
2.In the Balance Sheet, the assets, liabilities, and stockholders equity which are reported by
companies at a specific date. They also are related in the basic accounting equation which is:
Assets = Liabilities + Stockholders Equity. Assets are the resources that will provide future
economic benefits for the companies. Assets are divided into four categories which are current
assets, long term assets, property, plant and equipment, and intangible assets. The first one is
current assets are assets that a company expects to convert to cash or use up within one year.(49) It
includes cash, receivables such as account receivable (less allowance for doubtful accounts) and
interest receivable, inventories (inventory and supplies), prepaid expenses (insurance or rent). The
companies list current assets in the order in which they expect to convert them into cash (50). The
long term assets which are generally investments in stocks and bonds of other corporations that are
held for more than one year, land or buildings that a company is not currently using in its operating
activities, and long term notes receivables (50). Property, plant and equipment

Laccase Of Catechol
: Laccase catalyses the oxidation of phenols by one electron oxidation, consuming molecular
oxygen. The phenolic compounds form phenoxy radicals that turn into quinone intermediates in the
second stage of oxidation. These quinones are very reactive and undergo non enzymatic radical
coupling reaction to form covalent bonds involving polymerisation or cross linking of phenolic
monomers. Laccase from ascomycete Myceliophthora thermophila was able to oxidize phenolic
compounds such as catechol and catechin and mediate their attachment to denim surfaces. When
catechol was oxidised by laccase in situ at the surface of the denim fabrics, a brown overdyed
surface was obtained due to polymer deposition. Process optimization showed that 4 units per

LASIK Vision Correction Essay
LASIK Vision Correction
Are you ready to give up your glasses or contacts? LASIK vision correction is an up and coming
procedure designed to reduce your dependence on glasses and contacts. My objective is to show
both sides of the procedure, the risks involved and the wonderful possibility of not having to wear
glasses or corrective lenses. Of patients with moderate vision impairments who have had the
LASIK surgery performed, eighty two percent achieve 20/20 vision or better and ninety nine
percent achieve 20/40 or better (May 60). However, LASIK vision correction is not for everyone.
There are definite risks as well as possible side effects involved. Some of the side effects are
hazing, night glare and halos, loss of vision, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To enjoy an active lifestyle without being totally dependent on corrective lenses 5. To be able to
care for a baby in the middle of the night
6. To be realistic, not to expect perfect vision ( Bringing Your World )
The cost of LASIK vision correction is not cheap. Prices for the surgery range from $1,200 to
$3,000 per eye (May 92). Some insurance companies will pay for the procedure, but that is the
exception rather than the rule.
Although most results of LASIK surgery have been favorable, many side effects have been noted
along the way. One possible side effect is hazing. Hazing is the term used for a cellular reaction
that occasionally develops in the corneal stroma following surface laser refractive procedures
(May 67). Serious hazing is extremely rare with patients who have chosen LASIK. Patients
experiencing hazing are often told to increase the doses of steroid drops they are using. These
drops are usually enough to resolve the hazing without affecting their vision.
Another possible side effect evolving from LASIK surgery is that of dry eye. Dry eye is
described as grittiness in the eye. This grittiness is usually resolved within the first one to three
months following surgery. In a survey of 550 patients done by Dr. Robert Maloney, forty to fifty
percent noted experiencing dry eyes three months following their surgery. All patients should be
aware that dry eye is a potential complication of LASIK. In addition,

The three main theories used in international political economy are constructivism, realism and
liberalism. Scholars commonly use the theories to explain economical events in the international
political economy. Liberalists are concerned about interest of individual while constructivists are
much concerned about how international relationsare constructed by ideas in the system. This paper
uses realism theory to explain relationships among state and non state actors in the international
system. Realism is based on the idea that the international system exists according to the Hobbestian
state of nature, which is anarchic and brutal. There is no authority above states in the system
(Marten 9/12/2011). The influential states have powers that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In this regard, the organization ensures that the interests of all states are catered for. Managers are
answerable to states whereby they are called to explain inconsistencies during hard economic times.
In the realists perspective, the organization is the property of the rich nations, which is used to
enforce compliance. The headquarters of the organization is in the United States meaning that
everything is operated from there. States are usually forced to come into terms with unfavorable
policies in order to be members. The Chinese case would serve as an example. China was
requested to adopt some policies that would favor the West in order to be incorporated in the
system. Less developed countries do not actually benefit from the organization. The organization
allows US manufacturers to exploit markets in the third world but not vice versa. The third world
is incorporated in the system as underdogs meaning that they assist the rich nations in producing
goods. This is why the gap between the rich and the poor is widening day after another. The
organization ensures that the poor states do not pursue interests that seem to contradict with those
of the US. The organization is quick to slap economic sanctions to states that do not conform to
the set rules. In the late 1980s to early 1990s, Libya was barred from exporting fuel to Europe, US
and other friendly countries (Wolf 90). Oil

Essay on Cuban Revolution
Almost every nation in the world has experienced a revolution. A revolution can be simply defined
as a change. When a country undergoes a revolution, its ideals that it once believed in are being
modified. Sometimes revolutionaries act intellectually, yet others may respond physically through
destruction. Some may be peaceful, some short lasting, and some pointless. Historians do argue on
identifying whether a revolution has occurred. Revolutions usually follow a rupture in the nation s
events, are directed by a hero, have an ideology and belief system, and use symbols or tools to get
its points across to the people. Cubaand its leader today, Fidel Castro, have their own roots in a
revolution that took place only some forty years ago.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All revolutionaries except Castro and his family were massacred. Although this rupture failed,
Castro s movement gained popularity and prestige all over the world. In fact, Castro called the
Revolution the 26 of July Movement. Castro himself was caught and sentenced to jail for two
years. Between 1955 and 1956, br br Castro went to United States and Mexico looking for
supporters and money to fund his revolution. On December 2, 1956, eighty two men including
Castro and the physician Ernesto Che Guevara, set sail once again for the Oriente on their yacht,
the Granma. The campaign was doomed from the beginning. Nobody could navigate the boat
properly, everybody was seasick, most of the supplies were jettisoned in a storm, and the
expedition landed in the wrong place. (Sinclair,15) On one occasion Guevara followed the wrong

The Male Gaze Essay
In this essay, I will develop a critical analysis of contemporary mainstream film and I will argue
that attitudes and behaviour within this industry are adapting, albeit slowly, to respond to
developing attitudes within society. To assert this theory, I will focus specifically upon the identity
of the gaze and discuss how this has been applied, previously and currently, in action and science
fiction films; expanding upon Laura Mulveys argument in Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema
(1975), regarding voyeurism and the application of the male gaze .
The gaze is a term that describes how we engage with visual media. Mulvey posits that there are
three types of cinematic gaze to be considered in mainstream film; that of the characters, that of the
camera and that of the audience. She explores the idea that the gaze is always male; a theory ...

During a fight scene, Deadpool attempts to deconstruct his own genre and addresses gender
stereotypes when he makes satirical reference to feminism, asking his female rival if it is sexist to
hit her or if it is more sexist not to hit her. This question is quickly and efficiently answered when
Angel Dust responds with violence, overpowering Deadpool and hitting him with such force that it
drives him out of the frame. Feminist discussion of the male gaze identifies the effect that it has
upon how women perceive themselves and allow themselves to be perceived by men and other
women. In this film, the female gaze is used to achieve that same affect but with a much more
positive outcome. Neale states that men and women do not assume roles in gendered isolation, but
often play the role they believe women and men would like them to play and I think that this

The Power Of Power In The Bonfire Of The Vanities
Power is the ability to act on your own accord without any consequences to your own well being.
Additionally, it is the ability to influence the actions of the people around you in a way that
benefits you. The influence that power grants is one that allows a person to take control of their
life, and because of this, obtaining and holding powerhas been a basic desire of all humans since
the beginning of civilization. Power and its influence are clear components of the novel The
Bonfire of the Vanities by Tom Wolfe
. In the novel, we find multiple powers that constantly affect
the actions of the story s characters. Some examples of these powers are the power of lust, the
power of the people, the power of the law, and the power of the media. Out of these powers, the
power of the media is easily the most influential power in The Bonfire of the Vanities because of
its ability to influence people s decisions, which is especially evident in Sherman McCoy s trial,
its ability to influence the opinions of large masses of people, and its ability to expose something to
a much bigger audience.
The media s ability to influence decisions is the most obvious and influential power that it holds.
In the Bonfire of the Vanities, the media s ability to influence decisions plays a huge role in the
prosecution of the main character, Sherman McCoy, and without the media s intervention,
specifically Peter Fallow s story, McCoy is not indicted, and the case is most likely not pursued by

The Role Of Social Mobility In The Great Gatsby
The American Dream is the opportunity of social mobility, however since the 1930s the dream
has been dead. The opportunity of social mobility is ultimately the mental image that is associated
with The American Dream. The dream has evolved slowly, eventually grinding to a halt over the
past century due to the financial changes that have continued to reform our nation s economy. In
the process of America developing, the dream became harder to grasp and the goal has become
ever harder to attain. While the dream used to be fairly practical, now it is in essence truly a
dream. The chances of obtaining the goal and moving classes, dropped miraculously in the past
century. Using the article The American Dream Is Leaving America and the Book The

Jay Gatsby was in the pursuit of wealth even though he was born into a very poor family. His
parents were shiftless and unsuccessful farm people his imagination had never really accepted

into wealth, yet he was able to move into the higher class achieving The American Dream. The
class mobility was still accessible at the time Fitzgerald wrote his book, and it continued to show
in the character Gatsby. Another example is when Fitzgerald was explaining the character of
Nick. The Carraways are something of a clan, and we have a tradition that we re descended from
the Dukes of Buccleuch, but the actual founder of my line was my grandfather s brother, who
came here in fifty one, sent a substitute to the Civil War, and started the wholesale hardware
business that my father carries on to day (Fitzgerald, 7). Fitzgerald shows that Nick s family
actually achieved the American Dream of wealth and respectability through hard work. This is yet
another example of how Fitzgerald expressed how the American Dream was still alive at the time

Forensic Pathology, Toxicology, And Biology
Forensic science consists of a variety of fields such as in this case Forensic Pathology,
Toxicology, and Biology were used to help solve the murder. Forensic Pathology was used to
determine the cause of death by conducting an autopsy on the Johnson body. Coming to a
conclusion, that Denise Johnson s cause of death was due to asphyxiation (also known as
strangulation)2,9. The pathology unit also determined that her death was a forced and violent
death. Given the facts of how the victim died it provides the officers with an idea on how the
murder was committed. Secondly Forensic toxicology is the use of toxicology, pharmacology,
clinical chemistry and analytical chemistry to help legal and medical investigation of poisoning,
death, and drug use. A drug test was conducted on Johnson s body in order to evaluate the type
and amount of illegal or legal drugs that were taken. A drug test can normally detect all
prescription drugs, and as well as alcohol and illegal drugs such as, cocaine, heroin, morphine,
codeine, antidepressants and phencyclidine. According to Johnson s toxicology reports, the only
drug found in her body was heroine9. Lastly to have a better understanding of the case, it was
important to know what had happened to Denise. Therefore the forensic biologyunit conducted a
rap kit to determine if Johnson was sexually assaulted. The forensic biology division is responsible
for applying their biology knowledge to the law enforcement, which also includes forensic

Chihuahua is probably crossed with the English Black and the Tan Terriers. The long coated
Chihuahuas were probably the result of crossing smooth coated Chihuahuas with Papillons and

Amistad Essay
The touchiest subject that a person could bring up in the early 19th century was slavery. Many in
the north were wholly against it while many in the south could not live properly without it. The
Amistad case intensifies the already bitter feelings between these two parts of the country, and it
shows how sectionalist our country had become. On one hand there were the northerners who
couldn t believe that these people were being held for freeing themselves, and on the other hand
there were the southerners who said that the Negro s were animals and should be sent back to Cuba
to be hung. There were not only two different attitudes on what should happen to the Africans, but

What Is The Theme Of Riders To The Sea
INTRODUCTION
Riders to the Sea is a one act play written by Irish playwright John Millington Synge. J.M. Synge,
after visiting the Aran Islands situated off the Irish coast, and found inspiration in the peasant life
of rural Ireland. He started making annual trips in the summer and studied the lives of ordinary
people and observed their superstitions, culture and folklore. This play was based on his
experiences while he was there. On one of his trips he heard the story of a man whose body was
found washed up on the shore on the Aran Islands. After hearing that story, he was inspired to write
a play, and Riders to the Sea was written.
It is considered to be one of the greatest one act plays of modern theatre, it combines elements of

Synge himself spent time listening to and recording the distinctive speech patterns of the Aran
Islands before writing the play. The rhythm of the play is defined by the rhythms of speech of the
people living on those islands, which give the play a clear sense of place, time, and community.
The characters unusual turns of phrase (for instance, The young priest is after bringing them, to
mean The young priest brought them ) can sound strange to the modern reader. They would have
seemed just as strange to audiences in 1904 of Dublin and London. The language of Riders to the
Sea belongs specifically to the fishing communities of the Aran Islands. Synge has transformed it.
Homely details add to the realism of the play. Simple words are used repeatedly, like they might be
in fairy tales. When Bartley is looking for a piece of rope, Cathleen says Give it to him, Nora; it
s on a nail by the white boards. I hung it up this morning, for the pig with the black feet was
eating it. The symbolic use of colour is also typical for the play. Significantly, the necessary rope
is hung up by the white boards that will be used for Bartley s

Dred Scott V. Sandford Case Summary
The Dred Scott Decision was a famous Supreme Court case deciding over the rule of slavery in
newly discovered territory. The decision occurred in 1857 and affirmed that slaveholders should
have the right to take their slaves to the west . The Decision took three attempts to finally reach a
decision of whether an African American living in recently developed land should be free or not.
Below I will discuss the life of Dred Scott, the Scott v. Emerson Case, and the Scott v. Sandford
Case, and what happened to slavery in the proceeding decades. Dred Scott was an enslaved African
American who was born in Southampton County, Virginia. After the death of Peter Blow, Scott s

During the time of Dred Scott s residency in Missouri, a slave state, he attempted to buy his and
his family s freedom from Mrs. Emerson, but she refused. This led into the Scott vs. Emerson
case, which occurred on April 6, 1946, a petition against the Missouri circuit court claiming that
Dred Scott lived in free territory of Illinois . The court testified that while living in a free
territory slaves should be emancipated. However, during the case, court considered it as
insufficient, therefore, denying Scott s demand for freedom . It stated that... The Scott s attempt
to earn their freedom was unaccepted and that Mrs. Emerson should be allowed to retain her
slaves . Later in April 1846, after the death of Dr. Emerson, Dred Scott offered to compensate
Mrs. Emerson with $300, but she turned that offer down, and kept possession of Dred Scott . The
decision over slavery was later reversed in the Scott vs. Sandford case, which happened in the year
of 1857. It stated that former slaves still living with their masters, though, in free territory, should
return to slavery . For instance, the court decided that Negros were not citizens of the United States
and could not bring a lawsuit to federal court. It also denied any freed from Dred Scott though he
was living in free territory, because Congress could not prohibit slavery in the federal lands.

The Evolution and Corruption of Collegiate Sports Essay
The twenty first century has produced a society driven by economic success, capitalism, and class
and power disparity. Social institutions reflect these ideologies. The world of sport, in particular,
has been severely impacted by the corporate mentality, transforming it from a game run by athletes
to a big business where the decision making rests in the hands of national organizations and flows
towards the sources of revenue. Sports have become more like work than play, with the primary
emphasis being placed on winning rather than playing. Winning attracts spectators and media,
thereby bringing in more money. This has forced an evolution in the world of sports. First, one

It is easy to understand why participation in sport is encouraged by parents, administrators, and
community leaders (Frey and Eitzen 506). Sport is also seen as a trigger for socialization,
introducing children of all ages. It is perceived to build character, develop morals, and shape one
s personality, while transmitting the values and morals of the dominant culture to its
participants. Sport in the 21st century has developed so far that there are now infinite levels of
competition. Sport on the professional level serves as the model after which all other levels of
sport imitate. Professional sport is a multi billion dollar business with money generated from
advertising, media coverage, gambling, ticket sales and other forms of merchandise. Sport s
purpose is rapidly becoming more of a commercial pursuit with the intention of making money
rather than adhering to its original purpose of enjoyment and play. A major source of revenue for
professional and collegiate teams is the media. Television has had an enormous effect on the
world of sport. Over the years sports have taken blossomed as marketable powerhouses. In 1980,
for instance, sports programming was broadcast by three major television networks for a total of

Little Women By Louisa May Alcott
In her novel Little Women, Louisa May Alcott delves into the social expectations placed on
American women in the mid nineteenth century. Alcott explores the different impacts of these
expectations through the experiences of the four March sisters as they transition from childhood to
adulthood. As she follows the life of the girls as they struggle to balance the new world of social
elegancies with the morals ingrained in them by their mother, Alcott challenges these social
expectations and highlights the dangers they present. The struggles Jo, Meg, Amy, and Beth face as
they attempt to integrate into society, although all different, calls into question the strict gender
roles of the time and their functionality in the real world.
During the mid nineteenth century there were strict ideologies and guidelines held for women
that they were supposed to follow. These expectations were especially strict for the women in the
upper and middle classes. Women of the time period were expected to be elegant, beautiful,
innocent, and domestic. The standard model for an ideal woman was exemplified in the idea of
the True Woman. A True Women was a pillar of moral strength and virtue while also being
delicate and weak (Cruea 189) A True Women was pure and wholesome, displaying all of the
desirable traits and utmost femininity. Appearances were especially important at this time because
women were expected to aspire to marriage and attract a mate. Marriage was everything when it

Essay on The Knightly Code of Loyalty
The Knightly Code of Loyalty is reflected in the modern book Breaking Dawn and the modern
movie A Bug s Life. In Breaking Dawn, loyalty is reflected through Jacob Black who remains
loyal to his wolf pack, the Cullens, Bella, and his true love, Renesmee. Loyalty is the feeling of
devotion one holds for ones country, creed, family, and friends(dictionary.com). It is remaining
faithful to what you believe in. In King Arthurs time, the knights followed strict rules of chivalry,
honor, bravery, and loyalty. Jacob Blackis a Quileute Indian who is part of a legend. Jacob is a

It states that a knight has the duty to protect the weak and defenseless and to respect the honor of
women. Jacob protects Renesmee know mater what happens, and he always respects Renesmee
and the rest of the Cullen Family. The Disney/Pixar movie A Bug s Life also reflects loyalty and
other knightly acts. Flik is a worker ant who is also clumsy and a very independent thinker
(www.pixar.com). One day, one of Fliks new inventions goes hay wire, causing the entire food
supply to collapse and be ruined. This particular ant colony s duty is to feed not only themselves,
but a gang of grasshoppers. But after Flik s mishap, the grasshoppers become angry with not
only the ants, but also the Queen. In return, the Queen and the rest of the ant colony is angry
with Flik for causing them misery. Flik decides to embark on a brave mission to help get a
group of warrior bugs to help the colony stick up against the grasshoppers (www.pixar.com). Flik
wants to prove that he is loyal to the Queen and the colony. He proves that he is knightly by
fighting for the welfare of all, by serving the Queen with valor and faith, and by obeying the
Queens authority (www.middle ages.org). Flik may be a small ant but he has the loyalty and
commitment to his colony of a knight. The movie A Bug s Life, and the book Breaking Dawn, are
great examples of how the elements of chivalry, honor, bravery, and

Aphrodite Remedies
Now that we have looked at the symptoms, remedies, and agencies of бјњПЃП‰П‚, we ought to
find a decent definition of what бјњПЃП‰П‚ is based on The Symposium. I think a helpful
method of trying to find the definition of бјњПЃП‰П‚ is to look at the agencies, symptoms, and
remedies. As shown earlier, we can say that the agent of бјњПЃП‰П‚ is Aphrodite. Aphrodite is
the goddess of love. This being the case, we can say that бјњПЃП‰П‚ is either love, or a form of
love. In order to see whether or not it is love or a form of love, we must look at the symptoms. The
symptoms as stated earlier of бјњПЃП‰П‚ are courage, desire, and being a pursuer. It seems that
although these three symptoms are different, they all tend to be similar to the idea of desire. This
is shown because all people do things in order to achieve an apparent good (which may or may not
be good in reality.)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From this then, we can say that бјњПЃП‰П‚ produces desire in people. Finally, we will analyze
the remedies of бјњПЃП‰П‚. It has been stated earlier that the remedy of бјњПЃП‰П‚ is to
fulfill one s desires. The fulfillment of one s desires seems to be a plausible remedy for
бјњПЃП‰П‚ because a symptom of бјњПЃП‰П‚ is desire. We say we know a thing based off of
it s function. For example, we say that an axe is an axe if it can cut down a tree by swinging, or
a chair is a thing we sit on. If we change the function of a thing, then we also change what the
thing is. (If I sit on a table, I would argue that the table becomes a chair, since it is serving the
purpose of a chair.) For the case of бјњПЃП‰П‚, it seems that the function of бјњПЃП‰П‚ is
desire. This being the case, we can say that бјњПЃП‰П‚ is some sort of desire, and thus giving us
a definition of бјњПЃП‰П‚ in regards to the

Basic Concept Of Ballet
The Basic Concepts
A. Definition of a Classical Ballet Company based on the History of Ballet.
To define what in this research is considered as a classical ballet company, first the terms ballet and
classical ballet have to be determined. As classical ballet encompasses a wide range of ballet genres
wherein the classical technique is applied, a definition of romantic ballet, white ballet, neoclassical
and contemporary ballet is appropriate. To come to a clear definition and classification of the
different genres, mentioning their historical evolution is inevitable.
To distinguish classical ballet from contemporary or modern dance, the latest will briefly be
described in this chapter as well.
The word ballet comes from the Italian balletti, a term used in the 15th century for the figure dances
presented at the Italian Court. It is a diminutive of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the ballets de cour, performed by the nobility inside the royal palaces during the High Renaissance

Eros and The Modern World Essay
In the ancient world there were two different images that could be presented of the god Eros.
The first was that of a young man with wings and rings in his hands, illustrated by a statue that
was created around 400 BCE by the sculptor Praxiteles (Fig.1). Second is the depiction of a
mischievous baby by an unknown sculptor from the first century BCE (Fig.2). This second
depiction also had wings but once again the bow was missing. If the god Erosis depicted as a child
he is generally with Aphrodite his mother. Of these two depictions the most common in the modern
world is the baby depiction. Even though the baby depiction is the most common, in some instances

Each depiction of Eros has its similarities and differences from what tradition says Eros looked
like. But by addressing each depiction in turn I hope to prove that Cupid is most important in the
twentieth and twenty first centuries. To begin this discussion I will look at the image titled the
Abduction of Psyche. Next will be the depiction of Eros in the television series Charmed. After that
will be the depiction of Eros in a clip from the 1940 Fantasia. The final depiction will be from the
Disney television series Hercules.
To start, I will talk about the image depicting Psyche and Eros. This image depicts one of the
myths associated with Eros. In this myth Eros falls in love with Psyche, a mortal. William
Adolphe Bougereau painted this beautiful piece in 1895 (see fig.3). It depicts the abduction of
Psyche by Eros. The image shows Eros with Psyche in his arms on the way to his home where he
will live with her. Eros is a winged man who is almost nude and Psyche is a woman with moth
wings. Psyche seems to be at peace in the arms of Eros.
In this image Eros is a strong young man who seems to have a purpose. It seems logical for a man
to be used to depict this mythological scene because it is not very logical for a baby to be carrying
the weight of a young woman. If this image was one of Eros as a baby, an

In Anthony Burgess s novel A Clockwork Orange, he depicts a dystopian future by uses elements
of literature that almost let reader see what is happening, but the film can take it further. Stanley
Kubrick s version of A Clockwork Orange differs from the novel by featuring visual and musical
elements that are not described in the books but are metaphoric in cinematography.
Both the novel and the film still follow the same plotline. The protagonist and narrator, Alex, is a

red, yellow, green. Kurt Nassau, who has studied the link between colors and emotions says that
those colors signify happiness in a person. Before prison, Alex is happy. But when he was in
prison, his perception of reality changes and the scenes consisted of more neutral colors like
gray and brown, which signifies depression and melancholy (Nassau). In prison, Alex s freedom
is stripped from him, leaving him depressed from boredom. The only time there is color the
prison scenes is when he reads the bible and starts to fantasizing about the violence in the bible.
In those scenes, the warm colors come back and Alex feel happy once again. After Alex is cured

symbolizes depression and sadness (Nassau). Alex lost his ability to act freely, specifically
committing crimes, and to listen to Beethoven s 9th symphony , the two things that brought him
joy. So now he is depressed and suicidal. It s only in the last scene, when Alex is cured from being
cured , that he has a colorful daydream showing that he is happy once again when thinking about
violent and disturbing actings. All the colors shown in the film are parallel to Alex s emotions; he
is content when committing crimes, but depressed when he cannot even think about doing

demonstrates this in a list of instructions a mother gives to her daughter to help her live a successful
life. Directions that are listed involve food, clothes, social skills, health, and protection of public
image. Together these tasks assist in characterizing the motherand daughter. In Girl, Jamaica

daughter s youth, she does not understand how to dress and act in pubic, so the mother reprimands
her by identifying the bad behavior and provides instruction for the proper way to act. Although the
mother s instructions are very clear, the daughter still becomes a slut. Later, the mother instructs
this is how to behave in the presence of men who don t know you very well, and this way they won

point in the story, has become a slut (Kincaid #). The daughter s direct defiance of her mother s
instructions shows her lack of respect and immaturity. Even though the daughter has gone against
her mother, the mothers love for her daughter is still apparent by the help she continues to provide.

Individualism In Rocket Boys And The Glass Castle
Individualism. Like all memoirs and novels, Rocket Boys and The Glass Castle present a lesson
that one may choose to live by. In this case, individualism is an evident factor that relates to both
Jeannette s and Sonny s stories. That is, both protagonists displayed the idea of disregarding their
father s wishes for their future and just going for their own.
In The Glass Castle, despite her father s hope to raise Jeannette until he felt he was ready to let

her own life away from the constant bickering between her parents. Before then, Jeannette was

After receiving a prophecy from the witches the he will be king, Macbeth is excited to share the

Since Macbeth is seemingly incapable of facing Duncan without their plan written across his

on this mask, and deliver a convincing performance of trust and loyalty. This is evident because
even though Macbeth openly expresses his distaste in Duncan s murder when he tells Lady
Macbeth We will proceed no further in this business (I, vii, 32) he still ends up killing Duncan.
Wearing this mask has taken its toll on Macbeth. His mind and body were opposed to the deed;

Compare And Contrast Aspirin And Acetaminophene
Aspirin and paracetamol, both used to treat pain. However, which one is actually better? Based
solely on its chemical properties, aspirin is a better medication when compared to paracetamol.
Before the first ever pain killers were discovered, willow bark was used an analgesic due to its
antipyretic nature. This later lead to the discovery of Aspirin. Acetanilide was the first derivative of
paracetamol to be found. However, it could not be used due to its harmful toxic effects. During the
1880s, two antipyretic agents were developed. These were; acetanilide (1886) and phenacetin

It is still unsure how exactly Panadol works within the body. However, information is still
known about acetaminophen within the body. Paracetamol is metabolized in a hepatic manner.
Meaning in the liver. It is converted to inactive compounds in union with sulphuric and
glucuronic acid and absorbed into the blood stream. Subsequently, it is excreted from the
kidneys. Painkiller work by inhibiting the cyclooxygenase enzymes, COX 1 and COX 2 which
catalyse the formation of prostaglandins. Paracetamol works by blocking the COX 3 enzyme
which resides in the brain. However, paracetamols inhibiting capability is considered to be weak
as it cannot block the (COX) enzyme outside of the central nervous system. This results in
paracetamol not possessing anti inflammatory properties. Panadols antipyretic capabilities are
more efficient when compared to aspirin. Panadol has a bioavailability of 70 90% when taken

address disordered eating in cultures outside of the Western and Westernized world. This could be
because of the perceived lack of eating disorders in non industrialized countries or even because
there is an overwhelming amount of concern over eating disorders in Western society. However,
there have been several studies done on binge eating and dietary restraint in non western citizens

A major way in which they express this negative self perception is to restrain their diets or binge

this shame has been found to be more prevalent in women from non Western ethnicities living in the

while eating at different levels. Asian and Native American women are the most likely to feel
embarrassed about overeating or losing control while eating (Eating Disorders Review, 2007, 5).
They are therefore the least likely to seek help for their binge eating disorders. Healthcare providers
should take ethnicity into account when determining causal factors of binge eating in women from
Asian and Native American cultures because they are more

A Brief Note On Voltage Gated Sodium Channels
Abstract
Voltage gated sodium channels are fundamental players in animals physiology. By triggering the
depolarization of the lipid membrane they enable generation and propagation of the action potential.
The involvement of these channels in numerous pathological conditions makes them relevant target
for pharmaceutical intervention. Therefore, modulation of sodium conductance via small molecule
binding constitutes a promising strategy to treat a large variety of diseases. However, this approach
entails significant challenges: voltage gated sodium channels are complex nanomachines and the
details of their workings have only recently started to become clear. Here we review ¬¬ with
emphasis on the computational studies some of the major milestones in the long standing search of
a quantitative microscopic description of the molecular mechanism and modulation of voltage
gated sodium channels.
Introduction: Physiological Role of Voltage Gated Sodium Channels (VGSCs)
Cells respond to stimuli from the environment by enabling the passage of ions across the plasma
membrane, a process that results in the propagation of an electrical signal. Ion channels are the key
players of this process, the membranes of excitable cells are studded with a myriad of these integral
membrane proteins, which transduce chemical and electrical stimuli into currents of charged
chemical species (Hille, 2001). Owing to their pivotal role in cell physiology, a large number of
genes encode for ion

Qohlab Reflection
I compared the text from the New Interpreter s Study Bible to an interpretation from the Message
Bible. While there were several differences in the wording and vocabulary used, for the most part
this did not affect how a reader might interpret the reading. However, the ending verse of the NIB
version states One man among a thousand I found, but a woman among all these I have not found.
While the Message interpretation states I didn t find one man or woman in a thousand worth my
while. This difference points out how the culture and time period in which the translation was
made or written influences the interpretation. Both before and after this passage follow the
general idea of the entire book, a teacher preaching about his wisdom from his point of view. I
believe that the reading does not need any context from the previous readings in the book to
understand, but having an understanding of the author s logic and way of thinking does help to
better reflect on the passage. A major theme from the author himself that caught my eye was the
author s realistic, some might even say pessimistic, view on his interpretation of life. The author
states that the reality of life is that no one on Earth can do good and not sin during their life. Also,
the author states that life is not fair and just despite conventional wisdom. The major theme is that
Qoheleth, the Teacher as the authors refers to their self, is teaching us about the world from their
point of view and from the wisdom

The Author To Her Book Ap Prompt
Anne Bradstreet in her poem, The Author to Her Book , elaborates on the true struggles of the
publishing process that writers may experience in their writing careers. Through a unique
perspective, Bradstreet introduces the narrator of the poem as a writer with a deformed piece of
work, which is compared to a motherwith a child with deformities; both of which are exposed to
the public eye. Though the use of an extended metaphor, Bradstreet in The Author to Her Book
compares a defected piece of work to similarly, a child that has defects as well, which is used to
convey the speaker s self critical, yet, loving attitude toward her work.
Bradstreet begins her poem by revealing the self critical perspective of the narrator. The narrator ...

Additionally, she reveals through this comparison, that her blushing was not small, meaning that
she is thoroughly embarrassed by her work. Her work is a product of her. However, given the
circumstances of the public viewing it without the prior consent of her, she may not be too proud
of her work. This can compare to a mother that gave birth to a child with defects, the mother may
be very hesitant or even embarrassed to show the world her product. Since she focuses on the
many mistakes and errors contained in the novel, it reveals that she is, again, very self critical.
However, a shift occurs in the middle of the poem, which reveals the narrator s more loving and
affectionate side. Through the use of an extended metaphor, the goal of showing both of her
feelings to her product is successful. This affectionate side to the narrator becomes apparent
when she says the following: yet being [the narrator s] own, at length affection would thy
blemishes amend, if so [the narrator] could. She accepts this child as her own. Like a mother
with a child with birth defects, the mother still loves and cares for her child. This is much like
how the speaker, even though embarrassed and very self critical of her work, still cares for her
work. The work is a product of her. Such a product, like a book or even a child, could mean so
much to her, even though it may not be completely perfect. The

Biological Patents And Their Associated Exploitation
Biological Patents and Their Associated Exploitation There is no patent. Could you patent the sun?
This quote by Jonas Salk, the researcher who invented the polio vaccine in the height of the polio
scare, demonstrates the natural resistance people have to patents on biological agents. If society
can grant individuals or small groups of individuals the exclusive rights to the production and use
of biological agents in the form of a patent, the moralityof such patents must be taken into
consideration. David Resnik s adaption of Marx s theories of economic exploitation to a
biomedical setting can be used to determine whether biological patents are moral. According to
Resnik, A exploits B if and only if 1) A takes advantage of B and 2)

Together, they granted Columbia Universitythe exclusive rights to an important technique in
biotechnology and pharmacology which, allows foreign DNA to be inserted into a host cell to
produce certain proteins . The university earned almost $800 million through the licensing of
these patents to various companies and institutions. For A to exploit B, as per Resnik s
definitions, there must exist an A and B. So let A, the exploiting party, be Columbia and let B, the
exploited party, be the academic institutions and the private companies that wish to use the
technique described in the patents to further medicine. A did indeed take an advantage over B
with the advantage being the university discovered the technique before any institutions
discovered that same technique or a technique very similar to what Richard Axel discovered. A
used this advantage of having the discovery first to harm B financially by suing any institution in
B for their use of Axel s techniques without the proper license. So A exploited B. A cannot
morally justify this exploitation because any financial gain A received from exerting control of
their patents gets canceled out by that equal financial loss of B. Furthermore, A does not gain any
productivity from enforcing their exclusive rights to the patents but B loses productivity for
having to apply for the licensing or not being able to attain licensing for the technique so there is a
net loss for A and B. To

Wooden Wheels Bike Shop Research Paper
Partnering with a winning team through sponsorship opportunities Wooden Wheels Bike shop has
been involved in the cycling sports sense 1979 and has supported the efforts of local athletes in
many forms from mountain biking to triathlon, road racing and time trial racing and has been a
consistent hub for cyclists in our local community with locations in Newark, DE and the North
Wilmington location, along 202. Wooden Wheels Multi Sport is part of that same long standing
tradition of athlete support. We compete in multi event venues such as Triathlons, Duathlons, road
racing, time trials and we also participate individually and as a team in community events that
support other charities in our area. Why join in sponsorship with Wooden Wheels Multi Sport?

It s simple. Each athlete simply enjoys racing, however the cost of racing can be costly, at times.
Races for an athlete can range from $90 to well over $700 per event. Sponsorship funding is
used to defer the cost of competing for our members in the form of gear or race expense
reimbursement. Your sponsor money works for you because our athletes represent you well to
thousands of people. It also gives our athletes the additional resources to help defer some of the
expenses of competing so they can compete more often. As you look at the different levels of
sponsorship opportunities, you will note the placement and the benefits each level affords. This
does not limit the involvement of our sponsor to participate at their discretion more than the level
of sponsorship provides. Details on these opportunities are numerous and can be discussed with a
WWMS representative. We would enjoy a productive relationship with all of our sponsors and as a
businessman, myself, I know how important it is to invest wisely in the costs of customer
acquisitions, lets us help you maximize your

The Campaign For A Better Voting System
Just a few weeks ago, if you were to turn on the TV, you d be bombarded with political advertising
campaigns. During the height of a midterm election season, campaign ads are just one
demonstration of candidates pouring funds into their race with the hopes of creating name
recognition and getting our votes. Not all tactics of gaining votes are as transparent as witnessing a
negative ad campaign; some unethical ways of gaining votes are rather questionable, such as
Gerrymandering. I wanted explore the basis behind gerrymandering and understand not only how it
affects electionshere in New York, but nationwide as well; what has come from the races as we
announce the winners of these elections and possible reform for a better votingsystem in our
country.
The term Gerrymandering is an interesting one to begin with. It is simply the practice of redrawing
district lines in the attempts to establish a political advantage for a particular party or group. This
happens when the district lines are manipulated to create a partisan advantage. The term however,
has a negative connotation attached to it for the advantage that those in power benefit from the
process and the consequential disadvantage that the minority parties, the poor population, and the
generally uninformed voters are put into with their muted votes. Our text book gives a funny
anecdotal entomology of Gerrymandering by telling us that the word was created in reaction to a
redrawing of Massachusetts Congressional

The phenolic compounds form phenoxy radicals that turn into quinone intermediates in the second stage of oxidation. Laccase from ascomycete Myceliophthora thermophila was able to oxidize phenolic compounds such as catechol and catechin and mediate their attachment to denim surfaces. Of patients with moderate vision impairments who have had the LASIK surgery performed, eighty two percent achieve 20/20 vision or better and ninety nine percent achieve 20/40 or better (May 60). Some insurance companies will pay for the procedure, but that is the exception rather than the rule. Although most results of LASIK surgery have been favorable, many side effects have been noted along the way. One possible side effect is hazing. Hazing is the term used for a cellular reaction that occasionally develops in the corneal stroma following surface laser refractive procedures (May 67). Serious hazing is extremely rare with patients who have chosen LASIK. Patients experiencing hazing are often told to increase the doses of steroid drops they are using. These drops are usually enough to resolve the hazing without affecting their vision. Another possible side effect evolving from LASIK surgery is that of dry eye. Dry eye is described as grittiness in the eye. This grittiness is usually resolved within the first one to three months following surgery. In a survey of 550 patients done by Dr. Robert Maloney, forty to fifty percent noted experiencing dry eyes three months following their surgery. This paper uses realism theory to explain relationships among state and non state actors in the international system. • 6. Essay on Cuban Revolution Almost every nation in the world has experienced a revolution. A revolution can be simply defined as a change. When a country undergoes a revolution, its ideals that it once believed in are being modified. Sometimes revolutionaries act intellectually, yet others may respond physically through destruction. • 8. The Male Gaze Essay In this essay, I will develop a critical analysis of contemporary mainstream film and I will argue that attitudes and behaviour within this industry are adapting, albeit slowly, to respond to developing attitudes within society. To assert this theory, I will focus specifically upon the identity of the gaze and discuss how this has been applied, previously and currently, in action and science fiction films; expanding upon Laura Mulveys argument in Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema (1975), regarding voyeurism and the application of the male gaze . The gaze is a term that describes how we engage with visual media. Mulvey posits that there are three types of cinematic gaze to be considered in mainstream film; that of the characters, that of the camera and that of the audience. Additionally, it is the ability to influence the actions of the people around you in a way that benefits you. The influence that power grants is one that allows a person to take control of their life, and because of this, obtaining and holding powerhas been a basic desire of all humans since the beginning of civilization. Power and its influence are clear components of the novel The Bonfire of the Vanities by Tom Wolfe . In the novel, we find multiple powers that constantly affect the actions of the story s characters. Some examples of these powers are the power of lust, the power of the people, the power of the law, and the power of the media. Out of these powers, the power of the media is easily the most influential power in The Bonfire of the Vanities because of its ability to influence people s decisions, which is especially evident in Sherman McCoy s trial, its ability to influence the opinions of large masses of people, and its ability to expose something to a much bigger audience. The media s ability to influence decisions is the most obvious and influential power that it holds. In the Bonfire of the Vanities, the media s ability to influence decisions plays a huge role in the prosecution of the main character, Sherman McCoy, and without the media s intervention, specifically Peter Fallow s story, McCoy is not indicted, and the case is most likely not pursued by the ... These expectations were especially strict for the women in the upper and middle classes. Women of the time period were expected to be elegant, beautiful, innocent, and domestic. The standard model for an ideal woman was exemplified in the idea of the True Woman. A True Women was a pillar of moral strength and virtue while also being delicate and weak (Cruea 189) A True Women was pure and wholesome, displaying all of the desirable traits and utmost femininity. • 23. Aphrodite Remedies Now that we have looked at the symptoms, remedies, and agencies of бјњПЃП‰П‚, we ought to find a decent definition of what бјњПЃП‰П‚ is based on The Symposium. I think a helpful method of trying to find the definition of бјњПЃП‰П‚ is to look at the agencies, symptoms, and remedies. As shown earlier, we can say that the agent of бјњПЃП‰П‚ is Aphrodite. Aphrodite is the goddess of love. This being the case, we can say that бјњПЃП‰П‚ is either love, or a form of love. In order to see whether or not it is love or a form of love, we must look at the symptoms. The symptoms as stated earlier of бјњПЃП‰П‚ are courage, desire, and being a pursuer. It seems that although these three symptoms are different, they all tend to be similar to the idea of desire. This is shown because all people do things in order to achieve an apparent good (which may or may not be good in reality.)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From this then, we can say that бјњПЃП‰П‚ produces desire in people. Finally, we will analyze the remedies of бјњПЃП‰П‚. It has been stated earlier that the remedy of бјњПЃП‰П‚ is to fulfill one s desires. The fulfillment of one s desires seems to be a plausible remedy for бјњПЃП‰П‚ because a symptom of бјњПЃП‰П‚ is desire. We say we know a thing based off of it s function. For example, we say that an axe is an axe if it can cut down a tree by swinging, or a chair is a thing we sit on. If we change the function of a thing, then we also change what the thing is. (If I sit on a table, I would argue that the table becomes a chair, since it is serving the purpose of a chair.) For the case of бјњПЃП‰П‚, it seems that the function of бјњПЃП‰П‚ is desire. This being the case, we can say that бјњПЃП‰П‚ is some sort of desire, and thus giving us a definition of бјњПЃП‰П‚ in regards to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To define what in this research is considered as a classical ballet company, first the terms ballet and classical ballet have to be determined. As classical ballet encompasses a wide range of ballet genres wherein the classical technique is applied, a definition of romantic ballet, white ballet, neoclassical and contemporary ballet is appropriate. After that will be the depiction of Eros in a clip from the 1940 Fantasia. The final depiction will be from the Disney television series Hercules. To start, I will talk about the image depicting Psyche and Eros. This image depicts one of the myths associated with Eros. In this myth Eros falls in love with Psyche, a mortal. William Adolphe Bougereau painted this beautiful piece in 1895 (see fig.3). It depicts the abduction of Psyche by Eros. Psyche seems to be at peace in the arms of Eros. In this image Eros is a strong young man who seems to have a purpose. I believe that the reading does not need any context from the previous readings in the book to understand, but having an understanding of the author s logic and way of thinking does help to better reflect on the passage. A major theme from the author himself that caught my eye was the author s realistic, some might even say pessimistic, view on his interpretation of life. The author states that the reality of life is that no one on Earth can do good and not sin during their life. Also, the author states that life is not fair and just despite conventional wisdom. The major theme is that Qoheleth, the Teacher as the authors refers to their self, is teaching us about the world from their point of view and from the wisdom ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. The Author To Her Book Ap Prompt Anne Bradstreet in her poem, The Author to Her Book , elaborates on the true struggles of the publishing process that writers may experience in their writing careers. Through a unique perspective, Bradstreet introduces the narrator of the poem as a writer with a deformed piece of work, which is compared to a motherwith a child with deformities; both of which are exposed to the public eye. Though the use of an extended metaphor, Bradstreet in The Author to Her Book compares a defected piece of work to similarly, a child that has defects as well, which is used to convey the speaker s self critical, yet, loving attitude toward her work. Bradstreet begins her poem by revealing the self critical perspective of the narrator. The narrator ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, she reveals through this comparison, that her blushing was not small, meaning that she is thoroughly embarrassed by her work. Her work is a product of her. However, given the circumstances of the public viewing it without the prior consent of her, she may not be too proud of her work. This can compare to a mother that gave birth to a child with defects, the mother may be very hesitant or even embarrassed to show the world her product. Since she focuses on the many mistakes and errors contained in the novel, it reveals that she is, again, very self critical. However, a shift occurs in the middle of the poem, which reveals the narrator s more loving and affectionate side. Through the use of an extended metaphor, the goal of showing both of her feelings to her product is successful. This affectionate side to the narrator becomes apparent when she says the following: yet being [the narrator s] own, at length affection would thy blemishes amend, if so [the narrator] could. She accepts this child as her own. Like a mother with a child with birth defects, the mother still loves and cares for her child. This is much like how the speaker, even though embarrassed and very self critical of her work, still cares for her work. The work is a product of her. Such a product, like a book or even a child, could mean so much to her, even though it may not be completely perfect. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Biological Patents And Their Associated Exploitation Biological Patents and Their Associated Exploitation There is no patent. Could you patent the sun? This quote by Jonas Salk, the researcher who invented the polio vaccine in the height of the polio scare, demonstrates the natural resistance people have to patents on biological agents. If society can grant individuals or small groups of individuals the exclusive rights to the production and use of biological agents in the form of a patent, the moralityof such patents must be taken into consideration. David Resnik s adaption of Marx s theories of economic exploitation to a biomedical setting can be used to determine whether biological patents are moral. According to Resnik, A exploits B if and only if 1) A takes advantage of B and 2) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Together, they granted Columbia Universitythe exclusive rights to an important technique in biotechnology and pharmacology which, allows foreign DNA to be inserted into a host cell to produce certain proteins . The university earned almost $800 million through the licensing of these patents to various companies and institutions. For A to exploit B, as per Resnik s definitions, there must exist an A and B. So let A, the exploiting party, be Columbia and let B, the exploited party, be the academic institutions and the private companies that wish to use the technique described in the patents to further medicine. A did indeed take an advantage over B with the advantage being the university discovered the technique before any institutions discovered that same technique or a technique very similar to what Richard Axel discovered. A used this advantage of having the discovery first to harm B financially by suing any institution in B for their use of Axel s techniques without the proper license. So A exploited B. A cannot morally justify this exploitation because any financial gain A received from exerting control of their patents gets canceled out by that equal financial loss of B. Furthermore, A does not gain any productivity from enforcing their exclusive rights to the patents but B loses productivity for having to apply for the licensing or not being able to attain licensing for the technique so there is a net loss for A and B. • 43. The Campaign For A Better Voting System Just a few weeks ago, if you were to turn on the TV, you d be bombarded with political advertising campaigns. During the height of a midterm election season, campaign ads are just one demonstration of candidates pouring funds into their race with the hopes of creating name recognition and getting our votes. Not all tactics of gaining votes are as transparent as witnessing a negative ad campaign; some unethical ways of gaining votes are rather questionable, such as Gerrymandering. I wanted explore the basis behind gerrymandering and understand not only how it affects electionshere in New York, but nationwide as well; what has come from the races as we announce the winners of these elections and possible reform for a better votingsystem in our country. The term Gerrymandering is an interesting one to begin with. It is simply the practice of redrawing district lines in the attempts to establish a political advantage for a particular party or group. This happens when the district lines are manipulated to create a partisan advantage. The term however, has a negative connotation attached to it for the advantage that those in power benefit from the process and the consequential disadvantage that the minority parties, the poor population, and the generally uninformed voters are put into with their muted votes. Our text book gives a funny anecdotal entomology of Gerrymandering by telling us that the word was created in reaction to a redrawing of Massachusetts Congressional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
